So today on that One Sports Podcast, we got final thoughts on the Super Bowl. We're also going to talk about NBA All -Star weekend and what needs to change.

Speaker: final thoughts on the NFL 2024 season pertaining to the first thing I want to talk about is Kyle Shanahan firing the defensive coordinator Wilkes. I mean to be completely honest I think that looks bad on Kyle Shanahan because the defense
Speaker: had only given up three points in the first half. The defense only gave up 19 points in four quarters. The defense did what they were supposed to do. The defense took care of business and did their job through four quarters. And you could even say in overtime. Because at the end of the day, the defense only gave up 25 points total with an overtime.
Speaker: The offense was the reason why the 49ers did not win this game because the Chiefs scored three points in the first half and Kyle Shanahan's offense could only muster up 10 points. Despite that, despite that, Chiefs come out of halftime with the ball. Patrick Mahomes throws a pick.
Speaker: And Kyle Shanahan goes three possessions in a row with the seven point lead and gets zero points. That's not the defense's fault. That's Kyle Shanahan's fault. So, apparently Kyle Shanahan just does not like to take accountability. Because the reason why the 49ers lost was because of Kyle Shanahan in the offense.
Speaker: not scoring enough points if you would have said before the Super Bowl to San Francisco 49ers fans that your defense would hold Patrick Mahomes to 19 points in the game they'd be like oh we won the 49ers offense had time after time after time and could not get the job done now I will say like let's let's not forget the Chiefs defense this year was elite they were the number two defense
Speaker: Points per game there. They were only giving up. I think like 16 points a game 17 points a game Yes, they were playing a good defense But at the end of the day, it was not the defensive coordinator Steve Wilks. It was not his fault That the 49ers didn't get to win
Speaker: It's called Shanahan and offenses. So it'll be really, really interesting to see who, who they hire as their next D coordinator. But I feel sorry for Steve Wilkes because I mean, this guy, I mean, like, let's not act like the, the defense was bad. The defense, their defense was right behind Kansas City. They were number three in points per game.
Speaker: So the defense was good all year and because you lose to me this looks like scapegoat. I feel sorry for Steve Wilkes but Kyle Shayhan is totally using him as an escape goat because let's face it the defense only gave up 19 points in regulation they did give the touchdown overtime but they were gassed by that but it should never got to that point even as a Chiefs fan
Speaker: The Chiefs only scored three points in the first half and went multiple possessions in the second half without getting points. As an offense, to not be able to extend the lead, that is on you. Kyle Shanahan, to me this is not a good look for Kyle Shanahan because to me it says you don't know how to hold yourself accountable.
Speaker: and simple can't hold yourself accountable so I'm gonna fire fire the the DC and and make it look like that which I mean if you look at the numbers look how they put out here the defense was not the problem the difference was that was not the problem especially in this game the defense was not the problem so whoever
Speaker: and I will say the part that really is unfortunate for Steve Wilkes is because his team played in the Super Bowl all the defensive coordinator positions are filled so he's gonna have to maybe sit out a year and then come back after this next season because all the coordinator positions are filled so I failed for Steve Wilkes because it was not his fault that was all Kyle Shanahan and it's sad
Speaker: that this has happened. Because apparently Kyle Shanahan does not know how to take accountability upon himself. The Chiefs have some big decisions this offseason. You have Chris Jones up for contract. You have Elijah Sneed up for contract. And then you got a lot of guys. You have multiple guys next year. Young guys that are going to be up for contract too. Man, the Chiefs, whatever they end up doing, I will support. I feel like
Speaker: I would love to keep Legerie's Seed and Cresciones if that's possible so they can go for the three -peat. I just know from a money perspective, cap perspective, unless they can make some magic happen, that's probably not going to happen. I think that as much as I love Legerie's Seed, I think it would be easier for the Chiefs to draft someone
Speaker: to fill in for Lajeris than it would to draft someone to fill in for Chris Jones, because they're both elite. But I think that Brett Veach has proven that he can draft corners very well. And so I think that Chris Jones is going to end up saying, and I think that Lajerisne is going to go, even though I don't want that to happen. If, like I said, if somehow they can keep them both, that would be great. But also they have to think about Trim McDuffie, Nick Bolton, those guys.
Speaker: George Carlotta those guys are gonna be up for contract too and you know they're the those guys are the young cornerstones of the Stevens especially McDuffie and and Carlotta so that'll be interesting as well so she's have opportunity to go for the three -peat you know some people are are saying they should go all in on this I'm of the thought that I think that you don't have to go all in to go for the three -peat you know you you don't want to put yourself in a bad cat situation
Speaker: to try to go for the three -peat because and if it ends up not working then you've put yourself back you know X amount of years because you went on all and I think that you can sign Chris Jones let's need to walk and do some other things and still have a shot to go get a three -peat again I don't want to see Sneedle I don't want to see Chris Jones or Sneed go
Speaker: plain simple, but we live in a time where NFL has a salary cap. Now, if this was baseball, it'd be a completely different story. They have no salary cap, but however, football does have a salary cap, and I do appreciate that because I truly think it brings so much parity to football, and that's why it is so great. So it's going to be interesting to see what the Chiefs do.
Speaker: I think that Casey, Baltimore, Buffalo, Cincy are going to be your top dogs in the AFC going into this next football season. You know, San Fran, obviously Philly, Dallas, I guess you could say Dallas, definitely Detroit. I would say San Francisco, Detroit.
Speaker: Philadelphia I guess if I had to throw 14 in there it'd be Dallas but Dallas just that they douse every year in the playoffs So it's whatever so yeah Those are gonna be top teams in FC. I do believe right now that the odds are already out for next year Super Bowl and the as of right now the 49ers are the favorites Well, you know if Kyle Shanahan could keep a 10 -point lead in the Super Bowl He'd be okay, but for some reason he just can't do it. I
Speaker: Ah, but it's the defensive coordinator's fault, right? Anyways, let's move on to NBA All -Star weekend. First, I want to talk about the Steph and Sabrina face off. I'll be completely honest. I thought it was pretty cool. The fact that, you know, that they did that and kudos to Sabrina for having the, I'm just going to say to have the balls to come out there and do that competition.
Speaker: yes she did shoot with the women's ball however she shot from where the men shoot and that is further out from where she would normally shoot for the WNBA line and for her to get a score of 26 she was hanging right there with the dudes because 26 was the highest score I believe until the last round maybe but man for her to come out and put up a big number like that oh boy but then you know
Speaker: Steph Curry showed you why he's Steph Curry. It says Sabrina, I appreciate you coming out. But I have to send you with this L. But I thought the competition was great. I thought the sportsmanship was great. I think, I hope it's something that they do every year.
Speaker: Man, it just goes to show you, man or woman, if you can shoot the ball, you can flat out shoot the ball. Period. And I think that she probably shocked a lot of people who wasn't familiar with her for her to go out and put up a big number like 26. Kudos. I thought that was a good nice little change up from the event. I thought it was really well.
Speaker: And also, you know, it's a way to promote the WNBA. So I thought that was a win -win. Skills competition.
Speaker: It was good, I mean, I liked it. It just kinda, it is what it is, skills competition. I do like how they're like, you know, like switching teams up. Like yeah, like the pastry team first, like the first picks versus like the rookies, that was cool. And so yeah, that was good. So, and then the dunk contest, I think we're getting to the point now that, and I hate to say this, but I really do think that this is what it is.
Speaker: Is I think we're getting to the point now where where we need to flop the dunk contest in the Three -point contest because I think the three -point contest is starting to become a more exciting event than the dunk contest and it's simply because and I'll tell you this I I blame LeBron James. I feel like LeBron James ruined the slam dunk contest plain and simple
Speaker: You wanna know why? It's because before Lebron, Kobe, Jordan, all the greats dumped and competed in the dunk contest. I think Kobe was a two -time winner, Michael Jordan was a multiple -time winner, he had Clyde, the Clyde Drexler was the winner, he had all the guys who were elite in the NBA competed in the dunk contest. And then Lebron came along and said, no, I'm not doing it. And ever since Lebron has chosen not to do it, it has went downhill
Speaker: ever since so much to the fact that not this dunk contest but last dunk contest the mac mcclung won he the only reason why he was able to compete because he had just been called up it was on a 2b contract with
Speaker: the 76ers at the time he didn't win the dunk contest he came back this year to defend his title and he wasn't even in the NBA he was in the G League he's the first G League guy to compete in the dunk contest because you know he was the defending champion so he got to come back like when LeBron said he's not doing it and made all the other
Speaker: guys be like well if the Browns aren't doing that I mean I'm not gonna do it either so I think it's to the point now is where the three -point contest is more exciting than the dunk contest so I think they need to flip those events even though the dunk contest this year was it was good I feel like the dunk contest last year was better because I thought Mac McClung was a little bit better last year however the dunk contest was the dunk contest and let me tell you what Damian Lillard boy that boy
Speaker: its aim time and dame dame walks away as the three -point contest winner and you know
Speaker: where the players choose to put their money rack especially when they put it at the end and it seems like every time every person that competes goes into that last rack they're down a couple points or down X amount of points and having that money ball rack the last rack is just like super exciting and you have people on their feet if the NBA can get the stars back into the dunk contest you can keep it as the last event but if we can't
Speaker: They can get the Stars back in the dunk contest they need to flip the events because the three -point Competition in my opinion is better than the dunk contest and you can say thank you to LeBron James for that Because he ruined it just like like I said earlier You know for whatever reason he didn't want to compete in it like as an alpha male like I don't know why you wouldn't want to compete unless you were afraid to lose But you know who am I?
Speaker: So LeBron James has literally, in my opinion, ruined the dunk contest. And not only that, like the actual NBA All -Star game. What in the blue heck was that? Like they need to figure something out because that was, that was just as worse as like one of the last Pro Bowls in the NFL tackle. Like there's no defense involved.
Speaker: I mean it was to score over 200 points and then Lebron after the game said that that was what the game is starting to look like. No they're not not that bad. Nor was like we know 120 130 not 211 to 180 somehow that's ridiculous there's zero defense played in the NBA all -star game. How about you guys go out there and freaking compete like let's put like let's put
Speaker: home court advantage on for the finals for whichever conference wins it so let's keep it east and west and let's go whoever wins whichever conference wins uh they'll they'll get home court advantage in the finals so they can actually play because that was just to be completely honest that was downright disgraceful if i was uh older NBA
Speaker: Legend guy I would be embarrassed because that was just no defense I mean it was it was bad like I don't know anything other to say than it was it was just bad effort level low everyone's just playing offense nobody wants to get hurt so no one's really beating anybody up so I mean it's a bad look for the NBA and they need to figure it out
Speaker: They need to flat -out figure it out. Despite all that, the East is due, like I said, they do get the win, 211 to 186. I mean, so not only did Demi and Lither take home the harbor for the three -point competition, he also took home the MVP of the All -Star Game, so he had an absolutely monster weekend. Again, there still need to be some changes with the dunk contest, three -point contest, if we can get this
Speaker: The stars back into the dunk contest, we can leave it at the end of the, of the night, but if we can't, we should flip the dunk in the three point contest. Cause especially with the way the game is played now is so many people being able to shoot the three and the three being super exciting. I think if, you know.
Speaker: those guys, those shooters like Seth Curry, Dame Lillard, those cats, Tyrese Halliburton, those dudes, those cats, you want to see them go last.
