Introduction to Foxy Fate Presents and Gun Podcast

00:00:07
Speaker
Hi, everyone. My name is Fate. Thanks for dropping by. And what exactly are you getting yourselves into? Well, anything and everything in between. Let's talk about life. Let's have some friends over. Let's talk about hobbies, passions, relationships, all those really good stuff that make life so much more interesting. It's going to be different every week. So let's see what's on the plate here on Foxy Fate Presents.
00:00:42
Speaker
Hello everyone and welcome to Gun Podcast. Today is the very first episode for 2022 and although it's already August in a few days now from recording this video, or actually tomorrow is already August, but this is the first for the year and I'm very very excited.
00:01:00
Speaker
that episode three is having its very first guests and these two guests are very much passionate about Gunflower Building and so much I'm sure that there's so much more passionate than I am because they have more stuff being built but in any case so this is
00:01:20
Speaker
Gun podcast episode 3 and I have two amazing guests and I'd let them introduce themselves so you can get to know them better.

Meet Mobile Suit Hangar and Red Rock

00:01:28
Speaker
Let's start with the Mobile Suit Hangar. Hello Mobile Suit Hangar. Hello everyone. I am more than glad to be back here in this show. Yay! One of my constant co-hosts.
00:01:49
Speaker
All right. So, yeah, again, my name is the Mobile Suit Hanger. I run a YouTube channel as well with already 3,242 subscribers. Nice. Yeah. And I just launched the TikTok account.
00:02:16
Speaker
Yeah, I'm making waves in TikTok, I see that. I know, it's like, it's been 15 days and already have like 1,500 followers. It's so exciting. It's crazy. Yeah, I see it. I do poses, gunpla poses and gunpla photography and I'm already getting into more of customizations and kit bashing. So
00:02:44
Speaker
very happy. That's perfect, because that's what we are going to talk about today. But first, thank you, Mobus Luthanger, for introducing yourself. And our second guest, first time on the Gunpla cast, and hopefully not his last.

Exploring Gunpla and Customization Interests

00:02:56
Speaker
Let's hear it from the Red Rock.
00:02:59
Speaker
G'day everyone, I'm Red. If you know me on Twitter, I'm TheRedRock, the guy that posts a lot of advanced of Zeta stuff, pretty much. I do have a YouTube channel, it currently just reached 500 subscribers, so yeah, that's definitely a milestone. Yay, thanks! And I'll be hopefully doing more content. Well, let's see. I just do it when I'm in the mood, because I really don't want to bring the quality down, if you know what I mean.
00:03:28
Speaker
That's it.
00:03:30
Speaker
Welcome, Red, and thank you so much for introducing yourself. And to introduce myself as well, my name is Fate, and you can find me as Foxy Fate Presents over in IG, YouTube, and Foxy Fate on Twitter, although you might find that my page on YouTube is a rigmarole of a lot of my hobbies and stuff that I am very interested in, but I do have
00:03:59
Speaker
a special place in my heart for Gunpla. I have been focusing a little bit more on the waifu kits that are coming in. Like the latest one I got is I have an unboxed fumina. Yeah, so that's something to look forward to. But yeah, and we are here to talk about Gunplas, Gundams, and everything in

Delving into Gunpla Customization Techniques

00:04:23
Speaker
between. And today's topic, as mentioned, is all about
00:04:27
Speaker
customizations and scratch building. And so these two have so much more experience, so much more kits that have been built. And that's why they are here to share their insights about this topic. And I hope we can learn a few more tips or tricks from them, aside from what we already know as Gunpla Enthusiast. So who wants to go share their experience with customization?
00:04:57
Speaker
I think Noble Suit Hanger should start this off. Go ahead. Oh, me first. Okay. We're just passing it around. I know, I know. That's so exciting. This is why I have the most amazing guests.
00:05:14
Speaker
All right, if you wanted me to go first, then I'll start. So since this is a podcast and you won't really be seeing what we are holding in our hands, we'll be as descriptive as possible. And so what I have as a showcase of my latest customization is a Man Rody. It's a ground type from the Orphan series or
00:05:39
Speaker
the IBO series, I Am Blooded Orphans. And that show holds a special place in my heart because it made me cry buckets of tears. I really love it and hate it at the same time. But yeah, so if you remember this mobile suit hanger, I remember our
00:06:00
Speaker
uh show or our contest of sort for painting so yeah i don't really have a lot of experience with painting like i have only customized colors of like very very few kits i had a nobel kit as well as a little ew wing um an sd and i guess the most comprehensive one that i've painted is a momo chan
00:06:26
Speaker
the Momo, pink Momo that I turned into like a galaxy sort of for GWC. I remember that. Yeah. So that's the most comprehensive painting that I've done. And after that, this is the last one. So I haven't really painted a lot. I airbrush. So I know there are lots of tips and tricks on how to customize, especially when it comes to painting. But for me, I use an airbrush.
00:06:56
Speaker
some detailing via dry brushing especially for weapons if you wanted to make it look more silver or make it to give it more uh death and detailing when it comes to let's say battle damage or just like uh
00:07:16
Speaker
some highlights on some of the edges like what I did for this manorote. It originally was an orange and white or like off-white combination and I turned it into something red orange. I was going for a flame effect with this one but I got too hard on the reds and so it turned out like a
00:07:39
Speaker
just highlighting the bulky parts as orange. So customization is really tricky. Like for me, I'm only talking about customizing in terms of painting and it's already a very broad topic to explore, right? But for beginners, we, I mean, as a beginner, when I started, I was taught to really focus on detailing,
00:08:07
Speaker
using panel liners if you're using that. So I use Tamiya panel liners as well as
00:08:16
Speaker
If you're planning to, let's say, use the markers or the pens, that's also a good way to start if you're customizing the colors of your kits. But if you want to go through a more advanced one, you can go with the canisters for spray painting. I usually do acrylics for this one.
00:08:41
Speaker
You can always go by using airbrush machines, so it's really a work in progress. Almost everything that I've learned, I've learned from the Gunpla community that I, the Gunpla communities that I joined, and from watching YouTube. So that's so far for customization for me. That's just a
00:09:02
Speaker
a small part of it, like the painting part. I think that both of you can share so much more in terms of other ways to customize your

Mobile Suit Hangar's Customization Journey

00:09:11
Speaker
kits. So whose turn is it going to be? Is it the red or the mobile suit hanger? I want mobile suit hanger to start. We'll have red at the end then, so go for it. The mobile suit hanger.
00:09:26
Speaker
beat me to it. Anyway, so I still also have a lot to learn when it comes to customization and stuff. So I think just like everyone else, we start with just entirely repainting an entire basic kit.
00:09:52
Speaker
For me, it was the first ever kit that I custom painted was the Grimgrid from IBO. That was my entry. I think it was the GMKC 2019. There we go.
00:10:21
Speaker
Oh yeah. It was the GMKC 2019 and that was my entry. And I started doing kit bashing in the same year. The kit that I worked on was an HGCE
00:10:49
Speaker
Destiny Gundam, the Hine Westenflus. Westenflus, whatever. It's a German name. So basically this is the Orange Destiny. I custom painted it and I did some kit bashing.
00:11:10
Speaker
I removed the original weapons and I replaced it with scrap katana weapons and I bulk up the chest with
00:11:28
Speaker
You know, the giant beef and of the ST Sengoku astray, I used that and slapped it in the chest and then did the custom painting. As simple as that. That was a very simple kit bash. That's simple. Yeah, I just technically removed three parts and then slapped in one big part. That's it. I didn't do any modification or anything.
00:11:59
Speaker
And then, okay, so basically I'm just telling you the evolution of my work. And then I explored and explored. I started getting these third party add-on hits.
00:12:17
Speaker
and then started adding them to some of the basic high-grade kits that I had. Even the 30-minute missions add on weapons and option parts. So the most recent kit bash that I have was this, the Hayaku Shiki.
00:12:41
Speaker
I called it the Hayaku Shiki Imperius. I can't remember how many views that video had already, but it was pretty... Is it one of your more popular videos? I hope so. But I think my most popular videos are my reviews of the add-on kits. This was the main body.
00:13:08
Speaker
I'm currently showing it to everyone but I know it's a podcast so if you see the
00:13:17
Speaker
head. The Hayaku Shiki doesn't really have a vehicle. And then I put a vehicle. Oh, okay. And then I gave him this shield. This is from the gym guard custom. Is it golden white? Yeah, golden white. And then I removed the conventional backpack of the Hayaku Shiki.
00:13:40
Speaker
I did some modification. I drilled a hole at the back. So this optional backpack can fit in and then I can attach this wing effect. Where did the wings come from? These are from 30 minute missions and these open up like this. Wow.
00:14:06
Speaker
Yeah, it's like, you know, the Iron Spider, Spider-Man. It kind of has that vibe. So that's why I chose this option part. Yeah, those were the things that I did for this kit, aside from the custom painting.
00:14:30
Speaker
And now I'm actually working on, I can't show it on the screen, so I still am working on my GBWC2022 entry. Now

Red Rock's Gunpla Journey and Achievements

00:14:45
Speaker
I'm moving from 144 to 1100. So yeah, I am working on a custom MasterGrade XCF.
00:14:55
Speaker
Nice. I know that Exia has a very special place in your heart. Absolutely. It's my favorite. I'm so excited. Oh my goodness. I'm supposed to go with Damacy. What? I still have the robot Damacy.
00:15:11
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, I still have it. It's in the shelf. I was supposed to review it and post it on my YouTube channel, but you know, GBWC 2022 submission is almost there. So chop, chop. Oh my goodness. I think I can only attend to like show support for you and our friends, but I will be joining this year. Aw. Aw. I'm so sad. How about you, Red? Are you joining?
00:15:39
Speaker
gbwc actually i'm thinking about it because at first i joined but i worked on commissions for custom kids and i might prioritize that first because i do want my clients to be happy
00:15:56
Speaker
I think it's an advantage for me if you don't join. In any case, thank you for sharing us. Your customization will have more questions regarding those and your process, if we still have time. But right now, we're going to hear from the Red Rock. I've been a bit silent, but yeah. Hello, it's Red. Anyways, how can I start this? Well,
00:16:22
Speaker
Let's start from the very beginning, as far back as I can remember, but on customization, well, let's just say I started Gunpla almost eight to nine years ago now, so I really don't have a lot of memories regarding the very, very beginning, but I do remember that my very, very first kid ever was a TT Hong Lee... TT Hong Lee K.R.Y.O.S.E. Phantom Mode, and...
00:16:53
Speaker
That was a while. That was a while ago, but I definitely remember it. And when it comes to customization, as far back as I can remember, I saw when I was in the shopping mall one time, I saw this group. This was, and right now they're called Banda Parca Dahana Filipinas, or in English, Banda, well,
00:17:19
Speaker
It sounds bad if I say Tundum for its Philippines, that kind of sounds cringe, but yeah. We're going to refer it to the Tcalc name, which is Tundum Marcadahana Pilipinas, which definitely sounds cooler with my friends.
00:17:31
Speaker
Yeah, Grandma Super Friends Philippines. Geez. That sounds bad. Super Friends! Oh my goodness. That's not bad. Anyway... Let's not besmirch the name, okay? Go for it! So anyways, back at that shopping mall, I saw a group of people that were... At the time, I thought it was a competition of some sort, but it was actually just an eyeball meet-up, which...
00:17:57
Speaker
I didn't do that at the time. So when, so when I saw that group and I was actually with my parents at the time, I was actually very young. So I was like, Oh, mom like that. I want to join those people in probably competition or something. They might be doing contest. So at the time I was still buying bootleg because of course, um, money budgets, you know, you know, that, you know, that kind of stuff. And I was still relatively new and yeah, that was actually a few months.
00:18:26
Speaker
after I built the Kyrios and they started custom building before I started custom building actually so I was just not building at the time I was working on detail painting I was honestly using kind of two materials like actual quilt paints that's as far as I can remember but yeah that's all far as I can remember as I said but right now well not right now at the time I did
00:18:54
Speaker
I did a heavy arms and epion kick bash, which was, looking back, yeah, those were the master grades, so to be fair, they were the bootleg master grades, but yeah, I kicked bash those two. As far as I can remember, I used the legs of the epion, the front skirts, the body, the arms of the, and the head of the heavy arms, and the wings of the epion. I actually wanna re-do that sometime, but, you know, that was actually pretty wild, because that was, I customized a 1-1-100 kit.
00:19:24
Speaker
Like, looking back at me now, not doing 100s, I was kind of shocking. But, let's just say it wasn't that good, but for our first timer, that was kind of... Let's just say that was kind of ambitious for me. And I do use... You guys won't know this brand, but I use bossy spray cans. Oh, I do. I do use that. Yeah, we all know that, especially in our community here. We use those spray cans.
00:19:53
Speaker
I painted it orange and silver because, well, I didn't really have any grasp of colors at the time, but I'll forgive myself for that because that was very, very, very early days. Then after that, I did technically submit, but it wasn't just an eyeball because after that, I told them, oh, I thought there was a contest. I was young at the time. And they said, oh no, this is just an eyeball made up where we just meet and we have fun, talk about kits, all that.
00:20:23
Speaker
shenanigans and yeah after a few years i mean two or three i think i did go there regularly because it was a regular event like not even event is it an event not really it's just an eyeball so once a week like we'd bring kits we talked and it was a while then i started venturing into customization the other customs that i remember very fondly i actually posted this on twitter so if they'll follow me the red back all three
00:20:52
Speaker
If you don't follow me, well, that's it. Just kidding. Anyways, at the time Iron Blood Orphans was the same, how long has it been since Iron Blood Orphans were aired? Was it six years ago? What is it? I think 2015? Oh my goodness. Was it 2015? Iron Blood Orphans? Or 2013? Oh my god.
00:21:21
Speaker
Yes, it has been that long. We're getting old. Oh my goodness. Oh my goodness. Oh my god. What? 2015. There we go. 2015. So that came first, then double, uh, double the... Double O was like 2008. 2008. Oh my goodness. It's even older. Yeah, it's even older. Well, going back, Ironblood Orphans. Barbatos released, and you know what happened next.
00:21:49
Speaker
But then I did decide to do this. You know, the frames make everything uniform for the Gundams, that's a. So that's when I started customizing. Again, of course. But with Ayurvedic Orphans kits. As far as I can remember, I did a barber toast that was kit-dashed with the Thunderbolt High Grade Gundam.
00:22:09
Speaker
It was, well, let's just say, I just slapped random parts on it, but working back again, it wasn't really super bad, but it's not really something I'd visit again anytime soon. I met this dude named Yobi. He was actually a really cool guy, and he was the one that basically mentored me. So, before, this was GMKC, was it 2017? Yes, it was 2017 at the time.
00:22:39
Speaker
I planned to join GMKC for those that don't know. And I did a Zaku 1 Charr origin version. The one where it has the shoulder pods and not the one that the shoulder pads? That version of the Zaku one? Because there is another version where it just had the shield. And yeah, I went to his place, of course he asked my mom for anything and said, yeah, okay, it's fine.
00:23:02
Speaker
and then I went to his place and he did at the time he was teaching me how to airbrush how to close seam lines and it was actually very fun and the airbrush that we used was a Mr. Hobby one but I really cannot remember what model it was but yeah it was a Mr. Hobby airbrush with a probable compressor and that was very my first time joining a competition
00:23:29
Speaker
nationally, because I have been joining mini contests, but let's just step on those for now, because that's another story for another time. And here we go. Go to the market contest, 2017. I entered the Charr, this Charr, Zach won. And surprise, surprise, I joined new challenger, junior category, and I won second runner-up. Wow. Like that was my first time. That's amazing.
00:23:58
Speaker
Congratulations. Yeah, congratulations to my old self because you did do a good job on that. Because as an 18, I actually joined it. I did use the Zaku-A-Zaku facility version, but yeah, I can see why it didn't win too because I also did rush it and it was kind of bad looking at it now. So I'm just going to say that there's a reason I didn't win. And the last competition, Jim Casey competition I joined,
00:24:27
Speaker
was Gundam Market Contest 2019. I used a grimoire, the grimoire red beret. That kid is really good for what it is. The concept I wanted in my mind was how can I make a 1.34 model look like something that's 1.12th or 1.6th scale?
00:24:47
Speaker
And after that, I, well, GMKC 2019, in youth category, I went first runner up. So yeah, I was very surprised. There were actually a lot of pretty cool entries there too.

Future Projects and Podcast Ideas

00:25:01
Speaker
But yeah, I was surprised. But yeah, it was definitely part of my stepping stone in customization. So obviously, both of you still have a lot of stuff being built and so many exciting projects. That's a lot of stuff that we can really jump into. And you're giving me so much ideas about our future Gunpla cast episodes because of the
00:25:26
Speaker
things that you can share to everyone in the community. But right now, let's take a look at. So you've already shared your insights about the customizations that you've done, those that you are doing at the moment. So before we go and wrap up our
00:25:42
Speaker
a quick podcast for episode three. I'd like to hear your advice for those who are a little intimidated about customizing or kit bashing, because I know I've always been very intimidated of kit mashing, whether it's a third leg or third party kit being kit bashed with a Bandai one. I know
00:26:08
Speaker
Sometimes people even use Bandai to kit bash on a Bandai and that's giving me some anxiety because first of all, it's expensive. Our hobby is already expensive to begin with, right?
00:26:23
Speaker
Be brave as they say. So I want to hear from you guys. What is your advice for those who are just starting to explore customizing, especially for the upcoming conventions? Because I know so many people are so excited to go back to building and like really going to conventions in general, because you've missed out on that for like almost three years now.

Advice for Beginner Customizers

00:26:46
Speaker
So any piece of advice before we wrap up our show today?
00:26:53
Speaker
What? Yellow trash kits. Oh, sorry. I'm sorry. I'm almost there. But yeah, I think I'll go first now. To be fair, I'll go first. Go for it. Okay. Yellow trash kits. That's not, that's inevitable. You'll crash, you'll crash a lot of kits. Take it from me. Okay. I have boxes and boxes and boxes of trash kits here. But it's fine. Because once you get over that leap,
00:27:17
Speaker
Yeah, I'm not saying you should spend kits just to have parts on it, especially if you don't know what you're doing. But just know it will happen. You really cannot avoid it. And it's really something that you should learn to accept. Because in the end, you really are just learning. You can't do anything if you don't start working with your hands. And that's what I'd say for now, for anyone starting.
00:27:45
Speaker
because Ploplet is definitely a different beast. Let me tell you that. It's a different beast that I do have and I will continue to do tutorials on YouTube because people really, people really ask me like, hey, can you do content regarding Ploplet and stuff? And I'm still here thinking about how I can present this type of customization. So I'll see what I come up with eventually.
00:28:12
Speaker
And in line with that, can you plug your channel so for everybody who's listening? I'll include it in the links too, and please do send it to me in the GC, but just so that people can go for it. So I'm, I have a YouTube channel. I am just the same. The Red Rock on YouTube. You can see me with a, with basically a chibi, a chibi logo. You can see it right here from, if I know how this is, you can see the logo here.
00:28:40
Speaker
I'm using that. And there will be a link in the description. And mainly our social media. I'm active on Twitter. I'm very active on Twitter. At TheRedRockO3. And lastly is Instagram. I'm not really super active on Instagram, but I do post. The links will be below, but the username is RedRockGoes3xFest. Pretty much, that's it.
00:29:06
Speaker
Those are my social media accounts. I do have Facebook, but I'm really not relying on Facebook because Facebook took down my first page. Thank you, Facebook. Thanks a lot. Why would you help me grow? You got zucked. What? Yeah, I got zucked. Thanks, zuck.
00:29:23
Speaker
All right. Well, thank you so

Final Thoughts and Social Media Plugs

00:29:25
Speaker
much for sharing your social media and please hold on. I mean, look at the links below and be sure to visit them. And this time we're going to your advice from the mobile suit hanger. I think if you would like to start doing
00:29:45
Speaker
customizations and kit bashing and even scratch building. I would agree with Red Rock because you would really have to take risks and eventually, you know,
00:30:06
Speaker
I wouldn't say destroy your kit, but if you do it really carefully and you really plan on how to customize your kit, you won't really be destroying your kit. Planning is always key. You have to know what you want to do. You need to have an inspiration with your project. I always go to Pinterest.
00:30:36
Speaker
Whenever I start my projects, I always go to Pinterest for inspiration. But normally I always know what I want before I start a project. And then so that's the planning phase. The next one is try
00:31:02
Speaker
Okay, so if you don't want to touch here, because that's the concern of almost everyone. It's a brand new kit. I want to build it and I don't want to mess it up or whatever. Try buying built kits or pre-loved kits. They're way cheaper compared to the brand new ones, the unbuilt ones.
00:31:26
Speaker
So try buying those and use those as a base for your project or you can buy some scraps. I already started buying scraps, also accepting donations from RedRock since it has a lot of
00:31:51
Speaker
Anyway, so yeah, so the so the project that I'm working on right now, I actually bought
00:32:05
Speaker
uh the the the backpack part for my project for cheap like dirt cheap so and it's it still looks good still looks it still looks nice so yeah um so again number one inspiration get it from pinterest or
00:32:25
Speaker
Other people, you can watch YouTube channels, you can watch Studio G, EA Gunpla, and those crazy Japanese kit bash YouTubers. It's actually some advice I'd like to give also, after you go first. Just let me know.
00:32:48
Speaker
um inspiration and then um yeah if you don't want to mess up your your your brand new kits or your collection go ahead and get some from you know from facebook market or whatever wherever you can get um pre-loved gumpla so got it that's excellent piece of advice thank you and red you were adding something
00:33:15
Speaker
Yes, I would like to add something, just to encourage the builders too. Yes, you will world scrap, you will destroy kits, but always remember, mistakes can be reversed actually. I really learned this not so long ago, because you can just, if you mess up, there are ways to fix it.
00:33:35
Speaker
Just know how you did it. I mean, it's gonna be hard, but it's definitely a skill that you really need to work on. Like, oh no, I messed this up, I messed this kit up. There's a personal way to redeem it somehow.
00:33:51
Speaker
eventually you know along the way once you continue on this journey of doing custom kits customization but yeah mistakes can be reversed or sometimes it can be very let's just say bob ross style happy accidents happy accidents can happen i don't remember that that is the simple part is unused
00:34:14
Speaker
Probably it will take a lot before you can use it, but it will be used one day. And last thing about inspiration. You can also go to Gunjap, or I think it's called Gunjap. There's this Japanese website I might ask
00:34:29
Speaker
I'll ask Fate to link it below, but this is a Japanese website where a lot of Japanese builders share their inspiration. Actually, if you're on Twitter, go follow GP0144. He does a lot of 1.144 customizations, MSV designs, side story designs, custom designs of his own. You can really be inspired because if you want, you can look
00:34:57
Speaker
closely under in our stuff and you continue oh so that's how we did this part here that's how we use this part on this way how can i use it how can i use this technique or inspiration on my build because if you thought of something there's a very big chance someone else already did it and you can also look on art magazines nigeki hobby magazines
00:35:18
Speaker
for inspiration. So that's really, that's all the things I can add for now. Let's see if we can add more stuff to the future. Wink, wink, boxy, wink, wink. Yes, wink, wink. We'll have more of this definitely because there's so much more to cover and I want to thank you guys for
