Join Stephy Steph and Bobby as they begin day 2 on the Inca Trail. This is the tough day up to Dead Women's Pass. Will they both make it? Bobby is certainly apprehensive.

If you are considering hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu you should give this a listen.

Bobby also gives some hiking and camping advice.

Morning Routine and Warm-Up

Speaker
Well, here we are on track day number two and just packed up camp, had a lovely breakfast, stuffy stuff is warming up our shoulders with exercises. How'd you sleep last night?

Camping Challenges: Sleeping Comfort

00:00:16
Speaker
Hey there guys, stuffy stuff. Last night was all right. It was good for camping. A lot of my mattress deflated in the middle of the night. So, you know, not a great night's sleep, but an okay sleep.

Acknowledging the Porters' Efforts

00:00:29
Speaker
It's a pretty crazy setup with the porters. They set everything up and they pack it all down. They're making your meals. No one's working as hard as they are on this trip. I don't know how I feel about that. It's kind of, I feel very cradled.
00:00:48
Speaker
But yeah, more to come.

Surprising Sleep Quality at High Altitude

00:00:51
Speaker
You know, I think I was actually surprised how well I slept. We're about just over 3,000 meters in the air or above sea level. I guess we're not 3,000 meters in the air. Today's

Preparing for Dead Woman's Pass Trek

00:01:05
Speaker
a big day. Today is dead woman's pass. I got up about 4.15. One of the smartest things I did
00:01:13
Speaker
And it was quite shocking. Actually, I think I read it somewhere. I brought a pillowcase, an empty pillowcase. And I put my clothes in the pillowcase, and that was my pillow. They supply a inflatable pad. I brought my own sleeping bag because I really like my sleeping bag. But man, having a pillow, that may have been the difference maker.
00:01:40
Speaker
And that may change how I do camping kind of moving forward. It was pretty surprising. So that would be a little takeaway pearl.

Elevation Challenges: 3,300 to 5,000 Meters

00:01:53
Speaker
Today's mostly up at least for five hours. Elevation changes were going from 3,300 to I think over 5,000 meters.
00:02:06
Speaker
It's going to be a challenge. I'll be reporting to you along the way, kind of letting you know how I feel, how I'm doing.

The Comfort of a Lightweight Camping Chair

00:02:16
Speaker
I woke up and I actually sat in a chair. I actually brought a little lightweight camping chair that was actually a hit. And it was actually pretty nice. Some people kind of struggled on the trail yesterday.
00:02:28
Speaker
and I was able to offer them the the camping chair to sit down on and then our porters we had kind of a welcoming from them and we had the elder porters sit in our two camping chairs so it was kind of nice to have something that
00:02:43
Speaker
They all, the porters all got a kick out of these chairs and it was comfortable for these older men to sit on for sure.

Journaling Reflections on the Inca Trail

00:02:51
Speaker
So, I did get up early. I did a journal entry, a journal something that I go off and on, hit or miss. And I kind of did some entries on challenges and what challenges do for you.
00:03:12
Speaker
But then I also kind of went through and did a page on the challenges with comfort. And what does comfort do for you? And that may be something that I actually read to our group along the way. And I'll read some of my readings there for you as well. So anyway, stay tuned. This is day two on the trek, heading towards dead woman's

pass on the Inca Trail up to Machu Picchu.
