Super Bowl 59 Preview

00:05:00
Speaker
Okay, so on to the Super Bowl, it's Super Bowl 59. Wow. of It's next coming this something Saturday, off Sunday, excuse me, February 9th at 6.30. It's gonna take place at the Caesars Superdome, putting the AFC Champion Kansas City Chiefs versus the NFC Champs, Philadelphia Eagles.
00:05:20
Speaker
Chiefs will have the opportunity to make history and be the first and only three-peat Super Bowl champion. I don't know why I said first and only, but they'll be the first ah three-peat Super Bowl champion. It'll also be their fourth Super Bowl championship in six years. um And this year marks the fifth time that the Chiefs have made it to the big game since 2020. I'll let that one sink in a little bit.
00:05:46
Speaker
Uh, third year in a row that they've made it. That's why they're getting the chance for the three Pete. Now they did tie in new England. There was another team, new England Patriots made it three years in a row between 2017 and 2019, but they lost, uh, they lost in 2018 and the Buffalo bills made it actually four times to the super bowl in a row and did not, uh, never won one. They had run president had forced four.
00:06:12
Speaker
4 Pete to get there, but a 0 Pete to win, if you will.

Super Bowl History and Stats

00:06:16
Speaker
ah At current, the teams with back to back Super Bowl wins, like the Chiefs have, are the Packers, 67-68, the Dolphins, 73-74, Steelers did it twice, 75-76 and 79-80, the 49ers did it 89-90, Cowboys, 93-94, Broncos, 98-99 and the Patriots in 2004-2005.
00:06:42
Speaker
So there's a little bit of history in that. ah The Eagles are looking to avenge their loan or their loss from two years ago in the Super Bowl 57 and claim their second Super Bowl ring. They have been to the big game four times with their only win coming in 2018. Again, against the Patriots splitting their three-peat shot. ah Some more Super Bowl facts for you. ah there are This will be the eighth time that the Superdome has hosted the Super Bowl. Hard Rock Stadium has hosted it six times and, of course, two times as Joe Robbie Stadium wants his pro players. That's been around for a while. That's the one in Miami, Hard Rock in Miami. It's ah ah five different stadiums, I think. ah The Orange Bowls hosted it five times as has the Rose Bowl. Now, as far as cities go, New Orleans holds that advantage 11 times.
00:07:39
Speaker
ah some with the Superdome and some in Tulane Stadium. ah The Miami ah at Hard Rock and the Orange Bowl, they've hosted it 11 times as well. greater new The Greater l LA area is hosted at eight Super Bowls between the Rose Bowl, LA Coliseum and SoFi Stadium. As far as states, Florida has hosted 17 Super Bowls, California 13 and Louisiana 11.
00:08:05
Speaker
The team with the most Super Bowl wins is the Pittsburgh Steelers and the main New England Patriots with six. Most appearances in the Super Bowl is 11 by the Patriots. ah The Steelers, Cowboys and 49ers all have eight. This will be Kansas City's seventh trip to the big game. ah Most wins by a starting quarterback, six. Tom Brady and Terry Bradshaw, Joe Montana, Troy Aikman each have four and Patrick Mahomes has three.
00:08:34
Speaker
Most the TV passes by a quarterback. Steve Young was six in Super Bowl 29 versus the Chargers in 1995. Most rushing yards by Timmy Smith from the Washington Redskins in Super Bowl 22 with 204 yards. That was back in 1988 and in that era, excuse me, 1988. And in that same game, Marcus Allen rushed for 191 yards. He now is second on that list.
00:09:04
Speaker
or here, not done now, but he was, he ended up being second on. There's a two guys in the same game or top two. um Let's see what else we have here, looking at some of this stuff. ah The most rushing touch TDs in a single game, three by Jalen Hertz from Philadelphia in Super Bowl 57 and Terrell Davis from Denver in Super Bowl 32. Most points scored by a Super Bowl team was 55 in Super Bowl 24.
00:09:34
Speaker
when the night when the Denver Broncos beat the 49ers 55 to 10. The next highest is 52 points scored by the Dallas Cowboys and Super Bowl 27 highest scoring game. Super Bowl 24 when the 49ers beat the Chargers 49 to 26 at total 75 points. The next highest was Super Bowl 52 when the patriot Eagles and Patriots put up 74 points.
00:10:03
Speaker
Eagles taking that one 43 or 41 to 33. There are four teams with undefeated records in the Super Bowl. Tampa Bay and Baltimore have both two and oh and the Jets and New Orleans are both one and oh. There are 12 teams that have at least five appearances. Of course, ah we've already gone over in New England with eight or 11. Pittsburgh has eight. San Francisco has eight. Denver has eight.
00:10:31
Speaker
Now Kansas City has six and the Giants, Green Bay, Washington, the Raiders, Las Vegas, and Oakland, Denver, Miami, and the ah Los Angeles Rams each have five. ah The most MVPs, Tom Brady with five, Patrick Mahomes and Joe Montana each have three. ah Other MVP multiples are Bart Starr and Terry Bradshaw each with two.

Kansas City Chiefs Analysis

00:10:57
Speaker
ah See, only four teams without a Super Bowl.
00:11:01
Speaker
ah the Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Houston Texans, and Jacksonville Jaguars. There are eight other teams that have never won a Super Bowl. Minnesota's 0-4, Buffalo's 0-4 we talked about earlier, Cincinnati's 0-3 in Super Bowl play, the Falcons are 0-2, and the panther's in charge Panthers Chargers, Titans, and Cardinals are all 0-1. Teams that have won Super Bowls for different cities, the Rams,
00:11:27
Speaker
ah Super Bowls in representing Los Angeles and St. Louis. The Colts one representing Baltimore and Indianapolis and the Raiders one representing Oakland and LA. It's little bit of fun there. Just I i kind of like looking at some of that trivia stuff every once in a while. This is kind of a neat thing to do. So let's take a look at the game here. ah The Chiefs were 15 and two in the regular season. We'll start with them first. ah They are the defending champion.
00:11:55
Speaker
Now they did lose to Buffalo, who they did defeat in the AFC championship game, and they lost to Denver in the last game of the regular season. Offensively, they are led by Patrick Mahomes, who threw for 3,928 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 11 picks. Leading receiver of the Chiefs is Travis Kelsey, 823 yards on 97 catches, but only three touchdowns. Now that is understandable, given that Kelsey has more than a, just more of a possession receiver, really, if you think about it.
00:12:25
Speaker
when they need the big down or this or the first down, that's when they kind of go to him. He's not the big scoring guy. um They got a trio of white outs that are more than capable of doing that. ah Xavier Worthy, DeAndre Hopkins and Noah Gray, who all have combined for 140 receptions with 1512 yards, 15 TDs. Now rushing rise, Kareem Hunt has come up kind of as the top runner, I guess you could say, um, when Pacheco went down early in the season, he's come up with 728 yards on 200 carries, seven touchdowns. Now Mahomes can run the ball as well. He's gained 307 yards on just 58 carries. Uh, Pacheco is back, but he's just still not, I guess the runner that he was at least he hasn't shown it yet. Uh, he may in this, in this game, I don't know. Uh, we'll have to wait and see. Uh, in the post season of Mahomes was thrown for 422 yards.
00:13:21
Speaker
rushed for another 57 and has two touchdowns rushing and two touchdowns passing. Kareem Hunt has rushed for 108 yards and two touchdowns as well. Receiving Corps has been pretty much Kelsey and worthy. With 25 of 49 Mahomes passes directed at those two, the other 24 passes were directed at seven different receivers. Now to their credit, Kelsey and Worthy have converted on 20 of those 25 passes. Now put that number perspective,
00:13:51
Speaker
Of the other 24 passes thrown, only 14 receptions on those passes. Kelsey and Worthy each have a receiving touchdown in the postseason. And you can't make a discussion about the Chiefs without talking about, or the Chiefs defense, I should say, without talking about their six-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle, Chris Jones. Now his numbers are down compared to the last two years.
00:14:16
Speaker
ah He's still a player you need to keep an eye on though. I mean, if do if a defensive line isn't going to pay attention to him, he will make you pay for it. ah He has 37 tackles, 5 sacks, 9 tackles for loss, and 20 quarterback hits. you know and his His is a down year. okay ah another defensive The other defensive tackle is Tershon Wharton.
00:14:37
Speaker
six and a half sacks on his own. He's got seven tackles for loss to go with eight or excuse me, 11 quarterback hits. Uh, they also have a really good pair of young. And when I say young, I mean young defensive ends, uh, third year pro George, and I'm probably going to butcher his name.
00:14:54
Speaker
Karloff to us, uh, leaves the team in s sacks with eight quarterback hits with 28. He also has nine tackles for a loss. And on the other end of his book, inmate is Felix and Dookie Usma out of, uh, I think it was first, second pick out of Kansas. He's only his second year. Um, he has 27 tackles, two and a half sacks, six tackles for loss and seven quarterback hits.
00:15:21
Speaker
A couple of good solid linebackers in Nick Bolton with 103 tackles and Dan Tranquill with 94. Each one of them, see yeah Bolton has seven quarterback hits, 11 tackles for loss. Tranquill has only has four tackles for loss, but nine quarterback hits. They have a very good secondary.
00:15:43
Speaker
Jaden Hicks leads the team in interceptions with three, while four players have two picks apiece. That would be safety Brian Cook, cornerback Trent McDuffie, safety Justin Reed, and defensive back Shamari Connor. McDuffie also has 13 pass deflections and half a sack and six tackles for loss, while Justin Reed has nine pass deflections.
00:16:08
Speaker
Chiefs average a little over one turnover a game but have yet to produce a turnover in the postseason Which you know, okay, it's only been two games, but they've had they have forced four fumbles No picks so a little off on that on that part of their defense, but you know, you're getting the playoffs um Things can happen and it's only it's only a couple games So you just have to wait and see but they normally are a pretty decent team. They normally can get something going in that respect Special teams wise, the Chiefs are one of the best kickers in the game and Harrison Butker, 21 of 25. Three of his misses have been from 50 yards plus, but he does have a 52 yard of this season. ah So far in the playoffs, he's four and four. Punner Matt Arazia averaged almost 49 yards a kick during the regular season. He's down a little bit in the playoffs to about 45 yards.
00:17:02
Speaker
Now the Chiefs, if you want to ask me, yeah, they have the talent to learn at the Super Bowl and no doubt about it. I mean, they are a well coached team. Andy Reed is a good job there. Um, but they're going to be testing this game. I don't think they have actually been tested like they're going to be tested in this upcoming game. And we'll get to the Phillies or the Eagles here in just a few moments. Uh, but, uh, you know, they've got a decent arsenal, but right as we've seen, that as I just pointed out in the playoffs,
00:17:32
Speaker
You know, they're kind of, uh, narrowing their, uh, passing game down to this two receivers, uh, hunt while he's a good runner. Not really all that productive, if you will. Um, homes can run, uh, their defenses, you know, but excuse me, my homes can run.
00:17:55
Speaker
Uh, but I think defenses are learning to adjust a little bit to him. Uh, and I think this Philly defense, I'll get to, again, I'll get to them in a minute. I think they're going to be a little bit, a little bit tougher road to hope for, for Patrick Mahomes, uh, then what he's run up against so far this year.

Liquid IV Promotion

00:18:13
Speaker
Uh, like I said, we're going to get to the Philadelphia Eagles here in a minute, but for right now, I want to talk to you about liquid IV.
00:18:20
Speaker
Did you know that our bodies are made up of 50 to 70% water and the average loss of water due to dehydration is about three to 5% per day. Now, obviously the higher activity the level that you have, the higher the level of dehydration. And if dehydration levels get around eight to 9%, it does start to have an effect on you. You get thirsty, you get tired. Um, these are all symptoms of dehydration and they increase as you dehydrate further.
00:18:48
Speaker
Now losing just 15% of your body weight, to body water, excuse me, is enough to put you in the hospital and folks, I have been there. That is ah not a fun trip to make when you're dehydrated. ah So it is a serious issue. Water alone sometimes isn't enough. Now couple that with the fact that most of us don't even drink the recommended amount we're supposed to. Only about 50% of the recommended water is what we is what the average American drinks.
00:19:15
Speaker
yeah One solution is hydration multiplication. yeah You get that from Liquid IV. It is one of the most popular sports drinks in America. um It delivers two times faster hydration in water and three times the electrolytes of traditional sports drinks. It uses a process called cellular transport technology which acts as a hydration multiplier. It is designed to deliver more rapid absorption of water into the body. That delivers key vitamins as well, B3, B5, B6, B12 and Vitamin C.
00:19:44
Speaker
It's non GMO contains no soy, no dairy. It's gluten free. So pretty much anybody can use it. I use it myself. I like the electrolyte replacement formula. Uh, you know, you're out in the yard working or you're just doing whatever and you need a little hydration. There it is. Uh, I've also used the energy hydration formula, which is very good. Pick me up a good alternative to coffee. Uh, the immune boosting formula is packed with vitamin C.
00:20:15
Speaker
They also have a kombucha blend ah for dietary health and they have a formula for better sleep through hydration and it does contain melatonin.
00:20:24
Speaker
Now they have flavors that I like them. I mean, I think they're pretty light and I don't think there's really any heavy taste to them. I'm kind of partially golden cherry and Azu pineapple. Strawberry lemonade is good too. They also have other flavors like lemon lime, green grape, white peach, even a piña colada, no alcohol.
00:20:43
Speaker
it also comes in a sugar-free blend that uses an amino acid instead of artificial sweeteners there's even a hydration formment design for kids and flavors that i'm gonna tell you they're gonna like ah it's grip concord gra crisp apple tropical punch banana cotton candy what kid didn't go to like that flavor ah Liquid IV is conveniently packaged in individual pouches or sticks. You can take them with you just about anywhere you want to go. Office, gym, beach, school, even on an airplane. Hey, did you know this? Humidity in an airplane is 5-12% less than the Sahara Desert. So long flights will get you dehydrated and that is what causes the jet lag. Coffee, tea, alcohol doesn't help. Ask for a bottle of water, drop in a stick of ah liquid IV and stay hydrated.
00:21:30
Speaker
Now liquid heavy also cares about the world we live in. So they resource sustainable materials from family farms, they use 100% recycling materials in their packaging, and they provided grants to help expand access to clean water, clean and abundant water in other countries.
00:21:47
Speaker
ah They also been providing some help in the recent fires in California by doting over 66 at last count. Anyway, they've probably exceeded that by another few thousand by now, but 66,000 servings of liquid IV to first responders and victims of the recent fires and in California. So right now go to liquidiv.com and use the promo code GCS at checkout and you get 20% off. You can also shop better hydration by using my link.

00:22:37
Speaker
Okay, well we're back, this is Donnie Sports on the bleachers. I am Don Glenn, your host, and we are talking about the

Philadelphia Eagles Analysis

00:22:43
Speaker
Super Bowl. This kind of went over the Kansas City Chiefs. So let's talk about their opponents, the Philadelphia Eagles. Now the Eagles are 14-3.
00:22:52
Speaker
And they have a stout offense, folks. And it's led by a quartet of of really, really good players. You've got Shaquan Barkley, running back. White receivers, A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith and quarterback Jalen Hertz. Start with Hertz.
00:23:12
Speaker
work with Uh, let's see, Jalen hurts has passed for a thousand less yards in homes, only 2,903 yards, but he's thrown 28 tees, which is two more touchdowns than my homes. And he's only been picked five times six less than my homes. I, you know, kind of, uh, I guess you, you think a thousand yards, maybe you'd have or a thousand, uh,
00:23:35
Speaker
ah yards he maybe hadn't thrown as many passes um so that pick total might be a little more if he threw the same as Mahomes but you get the idea he's just he's just that good now like I said Mahomes can run he's got 370 yards on 58 carries but Jalen Hurts is a true running quarterback 630 yards on 150 carries so he is not just a runner as needed. He is a part of the offense or part of the running game, I should say. He's a second leading rusher on the team.
00:24:11
Speaker
has 14 touchdowns on the ground and has the ability, and I don't extend a play, but like I said, he can make something happen. He also, it's designed plays. If he gets around the end, he's got the shiftiness of a running back. He can make, he can make, make guys miss. And he's got pretty good speed for a quarterback as well. His 630 yards are a compliment to probably the premier running back in the NFL, in my opinion. And I'm talking about Shakehorn Barkley.
00:24:39
Speaker
345 attempts, he's got 2005 yards over the regular season, 13 touchdowns. Now, Barkley is a power speed combo running back with great agility. He can change a game in a heartbeat. And we did see that in the NFC Championship game, their first possession, their first play, 60 yards to the house. And he's had four TDs of 60 yards or more in the regular season and three so far in the playoffs. So seven TDs this year.
00:25:08
Speaker
have come 60 yards or more and a couple of them, I think we're like 72, 73, something like that. Um, so that's the, the kind of city defense is going to be really hard pressed to contain him because if you run the play, at you you've got to worry if it hurts run to play action, keeps the ball. You're looking at partially go on one side. He can go to the other. I mean, it's, it's going to be a really tough task for Kansas City to control that running game. And, you know, Barkley's not just a runner. He does have a couple touchdowns of receiving. um And he's got 33 catches for 270 yards. And also this year, he had seven games this season where he scored multiple touchdowns. Now take that as ah as a point of thought. ah The duo of A.J. Brown and Devontae Smith as receivers.
00:26:07
Speaker
is ah is a pretty stout one on in their own. i mean I mentioned the three receivers for Kansas City is 1,500 yards. These two guys between them have 1,900 yards and just two guys. ah They have 15 touchdowns. Now, Philly's passing game is not a big down the field 40, 50 yard slinging go. I mean, it's in that 12 to 15 yard but both of these guys can average like five yards after the catch. So if you hit a guy, if you hit him with a 15 yard pass, it's a 20 yard game. And, um, you know, that's something I think you really, I don't think enough people are going to pay attention to. I mean, it doesn't sound like a lot, five yards, but you know, sometimes you get in a third and long situation that extra five yards may come in handy. Uh, they also have a,
00:26:57
Speaker
Third option, Hertz has a third option in tight in Dallas. Good Godard, who had 42 catches in the regular season for 496 yards and two touchdowns in the playoffs. He's caught 15 of 18 passes thrown this way for 188 yards, so he's not just a safety valve. He's one that they also put into the play. Maybe not as much as Kelsey. Obviously not as much as Kelsey, um but he's a he's one that that Hertz can look to if he needs him.
00:27:29
Speaker
Now, as for the Philly defense, boy, they've got one of the top safeties in the game in CJ Gardner Johnson. He's got six picks this year. One of those was a pick six. He's got 12 pass deflections, one forced fumble. And you know he's not the he's not a one man show because Reed Blankenship also has four picks himself and six pass deflections. He has his safety mate there in the backfield or in the defensive backfield.
00:27:57
Speaker
um And if you try to stay away from those guys, don't throw it deep. Well, you running into Quentin, quarterback, Quentin Mitchell, Quinnion Mitchell, excuse me. He's got two pictures of the postseason. Darius Lays had one so far this postseason. There are a couple of top quarterback, cornerbacks. ah Then you look at the line backing core for the Eagles. You know, I said a couple of good linebackers for Kansas City.
00:28:28
Speaker
Philly is stacked. Zach Bonn and Nokobi Dean together have 279 tackles and 20 tackles for loss, six and a half sacks. So let that think sink in a little bit. 279 tackles as linebackers. The Chiefs top two linebackers are 190 tackles. These guys get in involved. ah They Off outside linebacker, John Sweat has eight sacks, 15 quarterback hits. Outside linebacker, Nolan Smith has six and a half sacks, 11 quarterback hits. Braun also has 17 solo tackles and one interception just in this postseason alone. Smith has four sacks and four tackles for a loss as well. Long and short of it is. Mahomes is gonna be under a severe amount of pressure from this Philadelphia defense.
00:29:26
Speaker
And I said, we didn't even got to the defensive line part of it yet. But this defensive front or a line backing core and defensive backs is something that Casey's going to have to maybe make an adjustment for. And like I said, the defensive line, there's no slouch either. The defensive tackle, Jalen Carter is four and a half sacks, 12 tackles for loss, 16 quarterback hits. The guy on the other end of the spectrum here on the other side of the center, I should say,
00:29:56
Speaker
Uh, Milton Williams has five sacks, seven tackles for loss, 10 quarterback hits. Uh, Carter already has two sacks in the playoffs. Uh, this is, you know, like I said, this is a, not a defense that Kansas city is used to going up against. I mean, if it's not, and this is, I think this is why I think it's going to be a ah ah lot tougher game for Casey to win. ah And, um, I just, if you're looking for a prediction for me,
00:30:28
Speaker
I don't see this as a Kansas city guaranteed win. A lot of people are saying this is not a guaranteed three Pete. Um, I would not surprise me and I'll probably call it this way. I think Philly will take this game by more than a field goal. I really do. I think Philly will take this game by more than a field goal. Uh, but I also think it's going to come down to the situation of who scores first and how fast.
00:30:58
Speaker
If Philly gets off to a quick start with Barkley, um, and they can hold down Kareem Hunt in the running game and force Mahomes to throw into that, uh, linebacker and defensive backfield, they have a good shot at this. Now, consequently, if Mahomes and the Chiefs can get a quick score, they can use up clock if they need to.
00:31:27
Speaker
Um, they can play the possession game as well as anybody. So if they score first and they managed to get a stop on defense, which I'm not for certain they're going to stop Philly, but if they can get a stop on defense and then play some ball control, then Casey may have a shot. So again, it's going to be figure who, who scores first and what they do after they score. So it both offenses, both defenses.
00:31:55
Speaker
I guess that this is this is going to be a game that people are really going to I think really going to be fun to watch. ah I do see it the way I i know where I say it pick the Eagles, i the way I see it, I think they have a distinct advantage in the running game, obviously. ah The passing game, I think, believe it or not, I think it's a wash. I really do. I think it's a wash.
00:32:16
Speaker
Um, the receiving game, I think I'm going to give that to Philly as well. Defensive secondary, I give to Philly and the defensive line. Uh, I think that's going to be, I think that's actually kind of a wash, but I'll give the line back in court of Philly. Um, the chiefs, I think I have a, do you have a special edge advantage or special teams advantage? Excuse me.
00:32:39
Speaker
And I think the Chiefs old line is a little bit better than Philly. So that's where I think maybe that may help my homes a little bit. But again, he, this is a defense. I don't think they've, they've faced yet this, this year. Uh, as for what the score of the game is going to be, that's going to depend on if the defense is show up or if the offensive show up or both show up. If both show up, you could look at, you could be looking at a.
00:33:05

two scores by each team game, a you know, a 14 to 17 game or something of that nature. If both teams just, which Andy Reed usually does, uh, open up the playbook and nothing is, nothing is sacred. Uh, you could see a shootout, uh, you know, defense be damned. We're just going to try and outscore them. So I don't know, uh, as far as that goes, but I think it's going to be a good game nonetheless.
00:33:31
Speaker
So, okay.

Referee Bias Allegations

00:33:32
Speaker
We can't discuss the Superbowl and the chiefs without talking about the alleged referee,
00:33:42
Speaker
uh, how you want to call it preferential treatment. Um, now, okay. Are the refs doing it or being directed to do it? That I do not know. I mean, I would find it hard to believe that other NFL owners are okay with the NFL hierarchy, if you will, ah going around or going behind their back and favoring a team just to get ratings, which, you know, hey, it's not now the realm of possibility. Let's let's let's be honest here. um But, you know, could they be doing it without the owners knowing it? Because, you know, the owners run the league. This is not a.
00:34:24
Speaker
a league that is somebody formed and teams join. And no, the owners run this league. The owners hired, just like in baseball and basketball, they hire the commissioner. The commissioner does what the owners want. So I can't believe you're going to have 29 other teams say, OK, yeah, let's give Kansas City a three Pete. That I'm not I'm not buying. ah What I can say is if you got to look at some of the evidence, though. In the Texans game, the unnecessary roughness call roughly in the quarterback,
00:34:53
Speaker
total bullshit and a part of my language. who it is it was It was total BS. You look at the Chiefs and um Buffalo game. you know oh yeah Holmes is yelling for an interference call and or ah and they called defensive holding and there was no defensive holding on that play. Holmes got what he wanted. ah You look at the two the third down and the fourth down play, they're near the end of the game. Ken Kate had the first down on third down. He was across, but they said, no, his his knees touched before the the line of scrimmage. ah If you actually go back and look at that play, no, they didn't. No, they didn't. His knees were not.
00:35:43
Speaker
ah behind that line of scrimmage when when they came down. They came down on the other side. And then you look at Josh Allen's ah push. And you know that, I think, um should have been called a first down. I mean, if you look at it, yeah, he was pushed back. But his forward progress, progress I believe, and I've seen many different angles on it. And I've seen a couple people that have
00:36:15
Speaker
you know, gone in and used the ah ah editing software, I should say. And, you know, they've tried to extend the line ah where he's at and go up his back. And, you know, that's kind of an and so unscientific way to do it. But because you don't really have a clear, straight on angle of the of yeah yard line. um But, you know, I do believe he he made it. And, one referee and especially when you see one referees on one side of the line, will which would be indicating the first down and the other referee on the other side of the line. And it's, you know, I just don't know. I mean, there's enough questions that you have to, it does have to enter your mind. Uh, I mean, if you look at, and I don't know on that particular play, um, CBS's Tony Romo, uh, color commentator, um,
00:37:06
Speaker
He said it was a first down. The former referee Jean Stereotour that they use for analysis on replay and things like that. He said it was a first down. So I don't know ah the it. A recent Sports Illustrated article and noted that in 2021 in the playoffs that the Chiefs are since excuse me, since 2021 in the playoffs, the Chiefs have been penalized 36 times to 66 times for their opponents. In terms of yardage, Casey has 319 penalty yards, 541 for opponents. You're starting to see that there may be fire where there's smoke.
00:37:54
Speaker
um But again, like I said, I don't know, I would like, I shouldn't, I would like to, but I tend to believe that what we're seeing here could be something of just human nature. um You see it in sports all over, all over, especially in basketball, um where a premier player gets the benefit of a charge call, gets the benefit of a blocking call. um Baseball, you'll see it, you know,
00:38:32
Speaker
superstar hitter say Otani is going to get that edge call more than a first year rookie you know that call right there on the black you know Otani is going to get that as a ball whereas a rookie is probably going to get that as calls strike and that's just I guess that's just a I don't want to say personal nature but that's just I guess a personal or a during the game or in the game bias of, oh, well, this hand, if it's so tiny, OK, we'll let it s slide. So I don't know. um But, you know, it is something to think about. And especially when you're talking about spot in the ball, they go to replay for spots, they go to replay for this. Why can't we enhance the replay? Why can't replay be enhanced where we have that shot that we need that's dead on? You know,
00:39:24
Speaker
Uh, I know there's other in this day and age of technology. I know they're talking about technology of, of, uh, I mean, okay. Think about it this way in golf. When you watch golf, they can track the ball, get this little line on the screen tracks, the ball in hockey. They can track the puck. You've seen that before. I don't think they do that much anymore, but they can track the putt and had a way where they could track the puck.
00:39:52
Speaker
Uh, why not baseball? I mean, why not? Why can't you track, put something either a re a, uh, in the lacings or something like that, that has a GPS, uh, signal or something like that. I mean, you put the the chip, you know, your, your locators and your pets and stuff like that. Why not put something like that in the ball? And then you can have the grid, the the field on a, on a, uh, grid.
00:40:21
Speaker
and you could get in real time where that ball actually is positioned on the field. Maybe that's something they need to look into. um So, you know, I think the XFL had an interesting way of doing it. ah They had somebody watching every play in the booth um that just watched the play. And if a flag was thrown, they automatically could tell that if it was a ah a true foul and they, and they often would call that, no pick up the flag. Um, there was no holding that at that or, um, and I've even seen, I even seen where there were, uh, uh, penalties called from the booth. So that may be something that, again, I mean, they look at, they're watching the plays anyway in New York. They have to for replay.
00:41:12
Speaker
I mean, they've got a capability to do the replay right there near. Why not be able now in some games where you got to hurry up ah offenses, that could be a little tough, but you it's not like it's going to be something that you would have to do every play every time, you know, but I don't know, there's just got to be some way I think that they're going to have to come up with to fix this situation and before. um You know, before too long or something's going to get a little crazy here. Anyway, I do want to make a, so that's what, that's kind of what

Kendall Bostic's Achievement

00:41:48
Speaker
my thought of. So anyway, I do want to make one quick college note. I had the opportunity to watch the University of Illinois women the other day. And I saw Kendall Bostic, the forward for Illinois become the school's all time leading rebounder. And I want to say congratulations to Kendall. And not only is Kendall the all time leading rebounder for Illinois,
00:42:11
Speaker
ah In the big 10 conference career wise she is number three i currently sitting um Looks like about a little over a hundred and five or 15 rebounds away from number two Jeanette Janelle Lavender from Ohio State. ah Make a deep run in the tournament, you never know, she might catch her. So, but anyway, congratulations to Kendall and the entire team and coach Shawna Green and the job they are doing, it is just phenomenal. Men are no slouch, but I think, you know, the the women are just kind of, they've ramped it up a another couple three notches in in um what they do. So anyway, well, that's all for me on the Super Bowl show.
00:42:58
