Speaker: All right. Hey, everyone. Welcome to the first episode of our Table Talk Recap Podcast. My name is Danny Price. I'm incredibly excited to get this thing started. This is going to be, like I said, our first introductory episode, kind of going over the main big picture behind this podcast, the idea, why it's getting started, who's going to be on it.

Speaker: So want to be the main host. My name is Danny Price, and my co-host is going to be Shane Finley. Shane is the lead pastor at MBF Church in Heber City, Utah. So yeah, and again, I just wanted to take this first episode. It's going to be pretty informal. This whole podcast is going to be pretty casual and informal, and I'm going kind of share the idea behind it, kind of give you guys a brief vision.

Speaker: um Hopefully it's the the idea is interesting and engaging with you guys, and yeah, hopefully you guys stick around for the rest of our episodes. So for this first episode, again, just why is this podcast here? What what is this podcast about?

Speaker: I've always wanted to start a podcast. I'm 30 years old, and you know, ever since I was, you know, about 18 years old, I've dreamed of starting a podcast. The problem is I think for the most part, all these results, there's so many podcasts out there and all these ideas that I would have had have already kind of been shared. So things, you know, about theology, things about religion, things about politics or fitness, nutrition, all that stuff has already been covered.

Speaker: And I felt like, man, if I did a podcast, it would, it would already be covered. And I'm not really adding anything that's unique or interesting. ah my take isn't that, and you know, necessarily, um, groundbreaking or revolutionary. So i was like, man, I i don't think I'm going start anything. And because of that, I've kind of you know held off on starting a podcast, although it's the idea of it sounds interesting to me. I kind of held back. I was like, I don't think I'm going to add anything to this podcasting space. I would just be just talking for talking sake if I did something.

Speaker: And then about a month ago, I was sitting in a sermon at MBF Church and like an idea kind of hit me. So for that idea to make sense, I kind of need to back up a little bit. So my name is again is Danny Price. I have a wife, Hannah, and two kids, Sam and Jenny.

Speaker: My wife, Hannah. um She's Hannah Price, but formerly is Hannah Finley. So my wife Hannah is actually Shane's youngest biological daughter. So that makes Shane my father-in-law. And we get this really cool opportunity. So Hannah and I, a lot of times after the church is over on Sundays, lot of Sundays we'll go over to their house afterwards and we'll have lunch, maybe dinner, kind of just hang out with them and the family.

Speaker: And we get this really cool opportunity to be able to ask Shane questions about the sermon. And Shane's one of those leaders, I think, that is incredibly humble. And he's very, very interested in, you know, making his communication better the way that he displays the gospel and presents the word.

Speaker: um So he's always asking, hey, I tried this illustration. Did did this work out? did you Were you guys able to understand what I was saying? Did you get what I was going for? Hey, I tried this or, you know, whatever it was. He's always asking for feedback.

Speaker: um And he's also, you know, he loves to talk about the things that he found while he was prepping for the sermon. Like, hey, this commentary said this. did you What do you guys think about that? This is a cool concept.

Speaker: And a lot of times this, you know, the conversation, but you know, by talking about all this, we'll kind of go into some of the harder topics, some deep theological questions. And we all have a really good, awesome kind of roundtable experience with Shane, you know, kind of being the pastor, being able to kind of help us sift through some of this, some of these harder questions and some of these cool things about the sermon.

Speaker: So in my mind, you know, I've always loved that. And, you know, I've been married to Hannah for six years and I've been around their family for longer than that. So I've kind of had that experience for myself for a while. And my thought was in this sermon while I was listening, I was like, wow, what if I could make a podcast that somewhat mimicked that?

Speaker: um Obviously, you know, we can't just throw a microphone on the table as we're all having dinner or whatever. I feel like there'd be so much chaos and craziness. But what if I could get Shane aside, you know, after the sermon on maybe Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, you know, before he's starting the next sermon and it's not fresh anymore.

Speaker: And I could set him aside and we could just kind of have a podcast talking about the sermon, talking about the things that he hope you know was hoping for people to come away with, maybe some things that he felt like he missed or maybe some questions that I had like, hey, you talked about this, go into that more.

Speaker: um So that's kind of the idea. So our goal, kind of the weekly rhythm that we're hoping for, is that we would sit down for about 15 to 30 minutes every week going over the sermon. You know, again, Shane's going to be doing most the teaching. You know, Shane's got his, you know, his seminary degree and is know is a pastor, teacher, very, very adept at that. And then I, you know, I have a you know, I've been a Christian my whole life. I have a theological background, but I did not go to seminary. So I will, you know, not be doing most of the teaching or anything like that. Shane's going to be doing all that. I'm just going to be asking him questions and kind of having a back and forth with him.

Speaker: Yeah, that's kind of our idea. um I'm hoping that if you are interested in this idea at all, that you would maybe listen to the sermon, if whether it's online or in person. And then this would be something that throughout the week, during your commute, during your some downtime that you might have, you know, you just be able to listen to this and, you know, soak in maybe some of these concepts and thoughts that Shane was trying to, you know, communicate across from the sermon.

Speaker: um So that's kind of the idea right now. The name of the podcast, why I'm naming it Table Talk Recap, is I think it's a kind of a cool idea. So recap is obviously, you know, we're recapping the sermon. But Table Talk is this really cool idea that goes back to ah Martin Luther. So Martin Luther was one of the first reformers. if So if you know about the Protestant Reformation, kind of the big split between the Protestants, which is most of like mainline Christianity versus Catholicism.

Speaker: um kind of It all came down to ah everything was coming to a head at this time of the Protestant Reformation, like the 1500s and that surrounding time period. um A lot of people started reading the bible Bible for themselves and started saying, hey, wait, hold on. this is not you know what the What the Catholic Church is teaching at that time is not lining up with the Bible.

Speaker: Something's wrong. Something's something's weird. to Martin Luther was from Germany, and this was one of his he was a champion of these kind of ideas of like, hey, you know we need to let Scripture speak for itself, etc. So, Martin Luther also taught like at a seminary, so to speak, and you know he would teach and you know give lectures during the day.

Speaker: But then at night, a lot of the time, his students would kind of follow him around, kind of almost like disciples. And he would talk you know to them very casually, very informally around the dinner table, you know while walking in his garden, while you know out and about.

Speaker: And this whole idea of table talk is this these this collection of documents that are really just his students writing down all these notes, and then putting it putting it in this collection um so that you can actually you can actually go online and read this of all these conversations that Martin Luther has had with his you know his students very informally, very very casually. It's not anything that's like a very you know full drawn idea of you know it's very topical of like hey he's talking about this and they wrote it down. So in my mind I'm like that's such a cool idea of like table talk. Informal but still being taught, you know casual setting kind of

Speaker: on the way as you were in life. I thought that was a really cool concept. So that's why I'm naming this the Table Talk Recap Podcast. So informal setting, recapping the sermon. So that's kind of the idea. That's kind of what we want going forward.

Speaker: My hopes for this podcast really are just that it's encouraging for the body of believers at MBF Church. If you are listening to this from Envy of Church, I would say this is a really cool opportunity for you to maybe get some more of the sermon.

Speaker: If you're not from Envy of Church, I don't think that this by any means that you can't listen to this. I think this is going to be useful no matter what. You know, Scripture is useful. And as long as we're talking about Scripture and teaching Scripture and letting the Word speak for itself, it's going to be useful.

Speaker: However, i would say a lot of it's going to be referring to the sermon. So if you would like to, if you're you know not part of MBF Church, if you're just stumbling across this, I would say visit our MBF Church podcast app, or not our app, but our ah our channel.

Speaker: And you can listen to the sermon first and then listen to this. I think this could be fine as a standalone, but a lot of it is probably going to be... you know, mostly alluding to the sermon. so like I said, it's, you can listen to it by itself. It's going to be better if you listen to the sermon first.

Speaker: So yeah. So if you want to go check that out again, it's the MBF church podcast. um You can find it, I think on all the main podcasts, you know, hosts and platforms. So. That's kind of the general idea. I'm really hoping, again, like I said, this is going to be encouraging. It's going to build up the body. It's going to build up the believers.

Speaker: For those of you who know Shane, Shane is such a great guy. and He thrives in that casual sense. um He doesn't shy away from the hard topics. He's very deliberate, and he's very honest and blunt you know about Scripture and what Scripture says. He doesn't shy away from the hard topics. so I'm really hoping that as we get into these topics,

Speaker: sermons that he's going over that we can really kind of like dive into the deep stuff. um I think for a while we're going to try to keep it just me and Shane. We might have a guest on here here and there. If someone teaches at Mountain View that is you know just like a right like a guest or maybe one of the other pastors we might have them on too or it might still just be me and Shane. And then I could also see us in the future maybe having you know some questions that are submitted in from you know the congregation. If this kind of blows up and becomes a thing I could totally see myself collecting questions on like Sunday afternoon to kind of go over with with Shane. We'll see. We'll let, you know, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Speaker: My commitment right now is I want to do this for about a year and see if we get any new traction see if it's, you know, exhorting the body. And if it isn't and it's not really getting the traction, no big deal. I don't have a whole lot of ego attached to this. my My main goal, again, is that I'm blessing the people around us in this kind of Mountain View Fellowship area in the community. So.

Speaker: That's a little bit about the podcast. Quick little background on myself, if in case you're curious. If you want to stop the podcast now, go ahead. I'm going to give a quick little you know overview of myself, and I'll let Shane in the next episode give a quick little introduction on himself.

Speaker: um Really quick about myself. My name is Danny. um Like I said, I'm married to my lovely wife, Hannah. We have two kids, Sam and Jenny. Sam is almost three years old. He he turns three later this week, and Jenny is almost one. She turns one later this month.

Speaker: So, man, our house is full. It's bustling. It's crazy. We have a wildlife right now, and, man, God is blessing us. um just immensely, man. god's God's love and power in our lives is just so evident. It's amazing. um I work, my my main my my job, I've done a bunch of like things here and there, but my main job, um I work full-time for a Big Canyon bikinian Ranch um informally, which is a Christian camp and retreat center um here in Wandship, Utah, where we live. So we live right down from the camp property in a basement of a house.

Speaker: Really easy for me to commute to work. Obviously, it's about a five-minute drive. So I've been working there for 11 years at Big Canyon Started off as a summer staffer, just kind of that classic college, you know, just summer job working, you know, helping out with program and fun activities at the camp.

Speaker: And I was asked to stay for a discipleship school that following year that Mike Smith from Centerpoint Church had, you know, was putting on. and He ran that discipleship school for a few years. So I was one of the first students on that.

Speaker: And... Because of that, because I stayed around, the discipleship school was being held at, you know Big Canyon, and I have just stayed ever since. So I did the discipleship school, I came back for the next summer, and then I asked i was asked to intern for Big Canyon, and I just kept coming back and coming back, and now it's my full-time job. So I've been full-time for about seven years now. My title is operations director, so started off pretty low, worked myself up.

Speaker: And now I kind of have a hand in everything. I oversee all the camps that come in. ah Most of our camps are from the Utah Valley, just kind of the whole broad Utah Valley. So all the way from, you know, like I should say Salt Lake Valley. So all the way from, you know, northern like Ogden, Logan area, all the way down to like southern Salt Lake and and pass down, you know, to like Provo and beyond. So.

Speaker: Most of the camps that we do are churches and youth groups, single gender adult camps in the fall and kind of our off season. So we have just, you know, super busy, full schedule. And I absolutely love my job. I get to, you know, be involved with so much of the the body of Christ, you know capital C church, you know, in Utah, which has been really encouraging for myself. It's been an awesome opportunity to meet people. And hopefully I'm having an impact for the kingdom, you know, just being able to work up here and that,

Speaker: you know I'm hoping and I know that there's tons of kids and adults that have given their life to Jesus because of what we're doing up here at camp. you know God obviously is doing the work, but the environment and the experience that they have up here has been transformational for their lives and for their walk with the Lord. So I'm just super excited to work up here. It's been but such a blessing. That's my main job.

Speaker: I've done little things here on the side. Some little hobbies about myself. I like to run. I like coffee stuff. I like fitness stuff. I play video games here and there when I get some time. My wife, Hannah, she is amazing. She is lovely. She's mostly a stay-at-home mom, but she also does work for a Mountain View Fellowship. She um kind of works part-time in the kids' ministry with Zana, Zana Leachman.

Speaker: Kind of as her assistant, kind of runs some of the young like preschooler and nursery kind of age groups. So she's you know incredibly busy with that, but then also stay-at-home mom. So again, our lives are crazy busy.

Speaker: um That's a little bit about myself. I've walked with the Lord my pretty much my whole life. I gave my life, you know, made a commitment when I was about six years old. um Talked to my dad, gave my life, you know, just in my in my bedroom while he was giving, you know, saying prayers for us at the end of the day, like he always did.

Speaker: And I got baptized. And then I've had that very slow crockpot type of testimony where even though I gave my life to Jesus at a young age, you know, and obviously like I was dead in my sin, I was transformed in that moment because of his saving work.

Speaker: I obviously, you know, as a Christian kid growing up, you know, there wasn't any huge flip-flop in terms of what my life looked like before versus after, you know, outwardly because I was a Christian kid growing up. So I have a very boring testimony of, hey, God is teaching me, has been teaching me these things over a long period of time. And I've had to relearn a lot of the same lessons over and over again.

Speaker: But I think it's just as powerful. And I've told people this all the time. Testimonies are just as powerful. you know, from the, in the long, the long, slow crock pot kind of testimonies, just as they are as if someone has a terrible life and turns it around and has a huge flip flop. I think it's just as powerful. So, mean, God has been so good.

Speaker: Again, my name is Danny Price. This is going to be such a fun podcast. I'm really excited for where we go from here. I'm hoping that you guys enjoy this idea. Hoping you guys are encouraged by this. This is going like I said, this is just an introductory episode. The rest of the episodes will not be like this. They're going to be more focused in on the sermon. This again was just to kind of give the idea, tell you guys a little bit about myself, kind of launch the process. And then again, next episode, we'll have Shane introduce himself and the church. And then pretty much after that, or maybe even next episode, we're just going to get right into it and just kind of start going off episode after episode every single week. So again, ah love you guys. I really hope that this is encouraging for you. And I will see you guys in the next episode.

Speaker: Thank you.
