Introduction and Catching Up

00:00:00
Speaker
Now, the less we talk about it, probably the better. I think we hashed out all, but all we needed to last week. I agree. Oh, we're live. We're live. Hey, welcome to stone by cornbread and unofficial league of hard knocks podcast. I'm Blake. Uh, I'm joined by partner in crime, Jay smooth, big J James Hicks. James, how are we doing tonight? And this lovely evening. We're doing wonderful. I'm in a great mood today for some reason.
00:00:29
Speaker
Got the yard mode, working on a little landscaping project for Jimmy's birthday this weekend, making a little rock garden. Things are good. There's something a man needs, like going to Home Depot that just made me come alive today. Things are good. It's making me come alive. This show is is Larry is joining the podcast. Larry's joining Stone by Cornbread.

Season Context and Live Recording Irony

00:00:50
Speaker
And this is already already time to head into week five. This is episode six of season two of our show. Time is starting to fly by. And before you know it, we're going to be staring down the barrel of playoff season. So let's get into it, James. It's going to be a be interesting. We'll have Lizzie on the flip side.
00:01:43
Speaker
And we're live. Well, not really, I guess, because most people are going to listen after this is no longer live, but it is live. It's eight 59 PM Eastern time, Wednesday, October the second, and the Braves are up one nothing on the Padres in game two of the wildcard series. I know this isn't a baseball podcast, but if I space out at any point during this broadcast is because I'm trying to watch that game as well. James, have you kept up with the Braves at all this year? I am a ah really bad.
00:02:13
Speaker
Baseball fan in general and The Braves have not really caught my attention this year. So kind of unfortunate I am what I am with the the Braves have loved them my whole life, but There are other things ah predominantly in the forefront of my mind right now and it's it's football mainly the balls and

League Standings and Challenges

00:02:37
Speaker
the Vols. You could talk about the Vols all night. You could also, when we talk about the Braves, talk about injuries all night, which I know my good friend, Rob, would love to talk about one of his favorite conversation topics, but it's been a nightmare of injuries for the Braves this year. If they can somehow get into the visional series, it would be a miracle. James, before Larry jumps on here, we had a pretty intriguing
00:03:03
Speaker
last week in fantasy. And there's been been a couple updates to the standings. I just want to give the league a quick rundown in case they haven't opened their app 27 times today like me. ah Larry maintains his position at first in the league. yeah ESPN's giving him an 85% chance of making the playoffs. Larry is 4-0. He has the most points in the league at 455.3. And he's cruising.
00:03:31
Speaker
You're not far behind him though. Smooth moves, 4-0. 86% chance of making the playoffs per ESPN. ah You're batting a thousand as well, so congratulations on that. You're ah you're third in the league in points four with 427.8. Man, that's gotta to be, I can't remember the last time we had two teams start 4-0. I know AJ went on a legendary run to start the season last year, but It's been a wow. It's been a while since we had this much separation this early on because if you go to the bottom of the pack, the one in three teams, yeah ESPN is giving like a 6% chance to Rob to make the playoffs, uh, 11% chance for balmy. So four weeks in and the standings are, are really, really spreading out here. Any, any just immediate reactions before we dive too deep into last week's match ups.
00:04:28
Speaker
Yeah, it looks like it's going to be an absolute dog fight down there at the bottom. There are some teams, whether they want to admit it or not, are mentally preparing for the

Fantasy League Insights with Larry

00:04:38
Speaker
shame offs. I know Bommie has admitted such and, uh, it's, it's going to take a heroic effort just to get to 500 for some of those teams. And I saw him, I would feel very good, even at one and three, a couple of teams like Andrew, I think he's had some good high scoring weeks per per usual for his squad. I like him to pull pull away from the pack, but I've had some bad takes this year. I didn't expect AJ to be down there. That's not a place he's familiar with down in the bottom tier, and I'm facing him this week. Being 4-0 right now, I keep getting away with starting the wrong quarterback. That will bite me sooner rather than later, I'm sure, but my team's starting to get
00:05:29
Speaker
healthier. And I feel good about that too. So I feel like I've weathered a little bit of a storm. Larry's just a juggernaut right now. So what what better time to have him on the pod? Oh, absolutely. And I mean, rounding out the standings, West WL is preserved by pilot, really strong star three and one ah coming in at 423 points. that's ah That's good for fourth and total points. Myself at two and two rounds out the the playoff positions.
00:05:57
Speaker
Why rhino got to talk about the norm, you know, screw you norm, but in all seriousness, rhino two game winning streak back in the mix. I like the rhinos team, excited to to get what, what Larry thinks more about, about the norm squad, but rhinos team started to turn it on. I love his core. Justin Fields, Kyron, my old boy, Kyron helped me win a title last year. I'm on raw looking great.
00:06:27
Speaker
T Higgins, maybe, maybe back in the fold, maybe healthy. And the sneaky pickup with Brian Thomas Jr. Really liked that. Looking great for the Jaguars. Uh, bandwagoner hanging out one and three, but at least he's in sixth, avoiding the shame off positions. And then the bottom four, uh, the Amish, just a bunch of old men. Yes, chef and bomb squad all sitting at one and three. So.
00:06:51
Speaker
Looks like we have our special guest doing this. Very interesting standing breakdown. Looks like Larry larry just hopped on. Larry, I don't know if you can hear us. Yeah, I can hear y'all. On your end, but if you can. Can y'all hear me? just I do see Larry, if you can hear us right now and it looks like your camera is not on.
00:07:16
Speaker
I would encourage you to do that, but very yeah there he is. Did you guys hear me? Oh, yeah. Yes, sir. Oh, yeah. Let me tell you. Looks like you're driving, Larry. What's going on in tonight? You're not doing some things. I had a meet up with a couple of couple of folks, got a couple of things I'm doing that'll come out in a few days. Can't really say right now.
00:07:41
Speaker
but yeah yeah So I'm just settling down, about to go home and see the kids. So this will be a nice excuse for me to stay out just a little bit longer before I go deal with all that. I love that. I see you got the power T on tonight as well. Things are good for ball nation. How's life treating you, Larry? I know we don't talk on the phone much. Give us a little a quick update on the Hurston family. Life's good, man. Life is good. We're in the swing of football season. so
00:08:13
Speaker
We're finishing up middle school football right now. We got basketball trials next week, so I'm pretty pumped about that. Should have a pretty good team. Kacen is killing it. Pit football right now is up to four touchdowns on the season through four games. He has about seven, eight sacks, you know, double game tackles for long. So he's killing it. He's exceeding my expectations. Both sides. He's playing both sides of the ball.
00:08:39
Speaker
No size of the ball. He's a killer out there, which he surprised me. Twins are good. One's walking. One's not interested. you know Spencer got to cheer the spirit stick. So she's good. you know The wife's good. Everything's good, man. We're not having any more kids. So don't worry about that announcement. But our life's good. Life's good. Yeah, I've seen some of- Kaysen's stat lines. He's pretty impressive. He's kind of got Travis Hunter energy playing both sides, but I see him kind of developing body type wise into a Harrison Smith, Taylor Mays, like big, big boy. I see him being a hitter. It's in his blood. He's not scared of contact, right? Our biggest issue right now is just technique.
00:09:25
Speaker
like If I can get him to drop his shoulder and use the speed it's over with. But if I ain't with him six-year football, he doesn't understand the basic concepts yet. But it's kind of cool to see like game by game, he's starting to understand it more. So like before, he was just running straight lines, you know, like he's just faster. That's all he knows.
00:09:46
Speaker
But now that like the nuance to it, he's starting to like juke and move and still like, it's cool to see he's starting to get it. So he'll get there. He's, I'm excited to see what he'll do. Yeah. A patient runner, kind of like Leveon Bell. That's what I need. Love that.
00:10:08
Speaker
Larry, I know, I know you've probably listened to a couple episodes of the podcast this year. We've come under a little bit of attention at some points, maybe ruffle the feather or two. I'm curious, just before we dive into it, you know what made you want to jump on the show tonight? Was there anything that, you know besides talking to us, which we do love talking to you, believe it or

Larry's Personal Update and League Advice

00:10:31
Speaker
not? ah Is there anything that where you're like, man, you know, I really want to get on the podcast and address the league and say something because we do want this to be a place where the league can voice themselves, make themselves heard. Absolutely. You know, everybody comes on the podcast and gets humble, right? Everybody comes on the podcast and they get quiet, they get nice, AKA Andrew. All right. Just like today. Now listen, Andrews, everybody knows me and Andrew, thick as thieves, best friend. We love Louie. Louie's a part of the family.
00:11:02
Speaker
I like Louie better than I like Andrew. But don't come in there with that shit and you knew that you had been talking crazy all to everybody. You know you've been talking crazy to everybody. And then after you get done talking crazy, you want to bring, don't use him. That is a great, don't you use that great dog to soften the blow for the stuff that you say. No, you say what you say when you stand on Stand on it. Same thing with Bonnie, our commission. You're supposed to be this whole fearless guy. When Andrew came on here, that was your opportunity to say what you needed to say. I don't want to hear about you being ambushed. I don't want to hear about life. This is our getaway from life. This is where we get to be complete idiots. And you guys are sucking the fun out of getting to be stupid because you guys want to be serious. Who the hell wants to get serious? I don't. I'll get serious. all I have a job.
00:11:55
Speaker
I have four kids and a wife who gets on my nerves. I love her, but she gets on my nerves. I can be serious with them. I don't be in this league to be serious. So if you come in here with that serious stuff, take that on somewhere, because I don't want to hear it. So those are my grievances. If you come here with an I don't want to hear it. Andrew, you stand on what you stand on.
00:12:17
Speaker
All right, you be be the troll at all times and don't be the troll at all. Bobby, be a man and say what you need to say. Last but not least, and I'm doing my rent, we can continue. Will Coley, you know, I know what the issue is with Will Coley.
00:12:31
Speaker
And I'm just going to call it. I'm going to call a spade a spade, OK? Will Coley don't like to see a black man on top. It has always threatened him. It has always been a thorn in his side. He's been pissed at me since this black man won Mr. West over him in 2008, and he hasn't let it go. So he doesn't want to see me back on top. It is killing him inside. A black woman is maybe president. This is a bad time for Will. This is a bad time for him. So I understand, which A,
00:13:01
Speaker
I don't care. I don't care, Will. You stop your crying. Stop your, Larry's not good, Larry. Whatever, bro. 4-0. What you gonna do about it? All right, I'm done. I'm done. Larry, that was incredible. The passion in your voice has me ready to run through a brick wall. It's just phenomenal. This is the life that can be brought to the pod and you're bringing it. That's all I'm trying to do. Yeah, I mean, we're talking to a guy that's 4-0. And and i do want to I do want to state that, Larry. like We got to talk about it, right? You're the hottest team in the league. You're on a four game winning streak. I'm not here to like just gas you up, but you're you're you are on top right now. You deserve to talk a little bit, maybe not just about the banter in the league. Because yes, I am here to escape from reality. I'm i'm glad you brought that up.
00:13:52
Speaker
i have I have other real things to get worried about like we all do. ah Fantasy football is is a fun fun escape from it all. But it's an even more fun escape when you're 4-0 and people are still trying to talk trash. So let's let's shift it to fantasy just briefly before we dive into a few things we want to cover with you. How are you feeling about your team? Maybe not the league members. I know you wanted to address some people there, but how are you feeling about your squad?
00:14:20
Speaker
because Yeah, you look fantastic. You know, if you want to know the truth, I haven't really thought much about being 4-0. This isn't coach speed. This is for real. Because, you know, I understand that I could go 4-0. I could have been in this league and looked really good and then went on to just a seven, eight game bender where I lose, right? It's kind of like being a ball fan, right? Like, we're 4-0, but in the back of your head, you're like, man,
00:14:50
Speaker
Arkansas could beat us though. You know, that's kind of where I'm at with it. You know, so I haven't had time to really celebrate my accomplishments because I feel like I haven't done anything. And the disrespect in the league still reigns in my head. You know, when I hear Will and Andrew, even you, Blake, you know, whenever you guys like to sleazy good at fantasy football, I take that disrespect personally. So I'm like, 4-0 is cool, but I'll do my talking when I actually have something to stand on.
00:15:18
Speaker
And I just feel like I don't have anything to stand on yet. Yeah. No, I feel that. I feel that. I didn't have anything to stand on for a long time. Getting the cup is worth it. So if it's if it's your year, it's your year. But I'm understanding that. 4-0, it's very early. A lot of things can happen better than some people's position. so I know James, you got a little yeah little trivia for us here. We've been trying to do more trivia, and Larry, since you're joining, we we do have a trivia question prepared for you from from from Big J here, because, you know, we we try to be corny with this, so hold on one second here, we gotta... Oh yeah, there we go. Big J coming in with a little LHK trivia tonight, Larry. I don't know if you watched the Lions game the other night, but I'm on Raw, AKA the Sun God.
00:16:08
Speaker
through a passing touchdown. Do you know who caught that one last ah before I get into this? Jared Jared Goff. It was an absolute Dilfer dime. Dropped it in the bucket. Beautiful pass. Apparently I'm on raw is the ah the third string quarterback behind Hendon, which is interesting. know I would love to see Hendon get some run somewhere at some point if I.
00:16:38
Speaker
was the dolphins I might be calling. Anyways, I can easily get sidetracked. So with that receiving touchdown for Jared Goff, he currently has more receiving touchdowns than a fairly impressive list. ah Eight guys right now. Three of them, four of them are tight ends. I'm curious if you can name any of these guys. So Travis Kelsey. Cooper Culp? Nope. Okay.
00:17:06
Speaker
So you said that's with one, he has more than these guys.

NFL Trivia Segment

00:17:10
Speaker
Yeah, you got three more tight ends, you got Kelsey, he's having a year from- LaPorta. Correct. Gotta go with if LaPorta was behind him. um Not Hawkinson, is it? Not Hawkinson. I'm gonna come Goddard, maybe. That was Goddard.
00:17:33
Speaker
No, Goddard's got one. Two more. One was kind of a trendy tight end pick this year, and the other is a a mainstay and a potential stack for you. Brock Bowers? No, this would require a trade for you to get this player for a stack. I'm drawing a blank on the tight hands. Mark Andrews and Trey McBride. The four receivers.
00:18:00
Speaker
The four receivers, I'll give you a little hint. ah One of them went to Georgia. Two of them are on the 49ers, and we'll see how you do with the four. Well, Brendan, are you? Correct. cause I know personally, he has it all he's about to find his way to the bench.
00:18:21
Speaker
Has Deebo not called a touchdown?
00:18:25
Speaker
Deebo is correct. Okay, this is impressive. Oh, well, I did give you some good hits but still And the other one there's one more What was the hint for the other one of these guys went there are two sec players one went to georgia But if you have sec in mind and guys who have struggled Out of the gate you might get one of these lad mcconaughey think about george No lad is uh Oh, oh. Lads caught one. George, I can't. I'm drawing a break with the Georgia receivers. You can give them to me. I'm honestly struggling too. Is it Pickens? Yeah. George Pickens. i And the last guy ah is a Bama receiver. Is it a Calvin or anything? Jalen Wattle. Oh, wow. You did pretty good with the tight ends. um And you got...
00:19:24
Speaker
You got four out of the eight. I'm kind of impressed. So yeah, there's our little ah big JLHK trivia. All right. Thanks for participating, Larry. That was fun. Larry, we're going to recap. We're going to recap really quickly. Week week five that was. ah I'm sorry, week four ah that was.
00:19:43
Speaker
And there were some interesting wins here. Just gonna break him down for you. ah This move moves James took down the bomb squad by a score of 93 to 66. Let's talk about this matchup. James moves to 4-0 as well. And is sitting right behind you in the standings. The bomb squad falls to 1-3 and stays in 10th position. ah He is the ah still the the league's lowest scorer.
00:20:09
Speaker
Rapid takeaways on, on this game. I don't know if you, you got to watch much of the match-ups, but this was a battle between Kyler Murray and Patrick Mahomes. And even though Kyler Murray only put up nine points, James really pulled away powered by his defense with the 49ers scoring 23 and his kicker, Evan McPherson scoring 13, much to Rob Chagrin. But what's your take on these two teams? You got, like I said, James in second, Bommie in the basement.
00:20:39
Speaker
Are you worried about James creeping up on you? I'll be completely honest. The amount of time that I spent on other people's squad has been minimal. I say that number one, because if I look at other people's squads, I'll start freaking out about my own. I can convince myself that any squad is good if I look at it long enough just from worrying, right? I will say, looking at Bonnie's team, I just, man, it's just so many holes, so sporadic. and You just don't know what you're going to get.
00:21:07
Speaker
You know, we call him the algorithm, but the algorithm has to change at some point. I think if if you fail to adapt your methods in this league, not the rules, Ron, not adapt the rules, but if you fail to adapt to how the game is being played, you want to get left behind. I think that's what Bonnie's dealing with. I think he's a methodical guy. He does things one way. And I think that's been a struggle for him the last few years.
00:21:36
Speaker
But look at the James team. James is due for a good week. James doesn't stay down long. So I know if he if he has a norm in the ring thing, you can know a championship type caliber squad is coming up soon. So I'm i'm just not surprised he's born out. I know he'll be a formidable opponent when we play. Okay, okay. Yeah, Bobby's got some tough decisions to make. It looks like he's going to make a business decision going into week five. He's benching Patrick Mahomes, which is,
00:22:05
Speaker
Very interesting for a diehard Chiefs fan and a guy, guy intent, benching a back-to-back Superbowl quarterback. We'll see how, we'll see how it plays out for him. We won't go through all the match-ups. I took down Rob, which is not too noteworthy because we're pretty middle teams right now.

Playoff Positions and Team Risks

00:22:22
Speaker
The other guy in a playoff position, though, is is Will. And he snuck one out against AJ, despite announcing he was dominating the whole game. He won 91.9 to 87.7. Will sitting in third place, AJ drops into eighth. So again, some big separation here. AJ in a shame-off position. Will in a playoff position.
00:22:45
Speaker
You can talk about this matchup. You can talk about how you thought this game was going to play out. You can talk about either these league members, but just curious your takes on where they're at in the standings. Any surprises there? Are the Phillies a threat? I definitely think the Phillies are a threat. I think AJ's team is kind of like bombing's team to me. You know, you're like, you you just don't know what you're going to get with that group. I think they're pretty up and down it. Trusting Anthony Richards in the quarterback is just a dangerous thing to do. I don't think that's a ah good idea.
00:23:15
Speaker
I think Will's squad is solid. I definitely think he's a championship contender, especially with Jonathan Taylor. That's that's a pick. I want it real bad. oh Honestly, Will has a pretty legit shot at winning in the championship this year. um as much As much as I hate saying that, I do think that Will... I think his team's built for the whole season. I think that's the thing with Will. He has some pretty good depth there. You know, he has points on his bench, points starting.
00:23:45
Speaker
I think Will has a chance to really really make noise here.
00:23:51
Speaker
Yeah, yeah. well Will's looking pretty good. He's he's not going to be quiet about it either. We know that, which we appreciate. We appreciate. it we want we want We want smoke. We want noise in the league. Like you said, you still want people to hop on the podcast and stay quiet. We're going to try to get Will on, I think, i think potentially next week. So it'll be interesting to see after another week of football,
00:24:10
Speaker
where where he's sitting. Couple other, couple other results. I mean, your matchup with Andrew, we got to talk about it. ah you you You put Andrew down to one in three. I know you don't pay much attention to other people's teams, which is fair, but I'm sure you glanced over at the guy you were playing this past week. yeah what What's your take on this result, this matchup? I'm sure it felt good to get a dub. I think this may be Andrew's worst squad. I think this may be the worst squad he's had. Andrew usually has a high scoring squad, you know,
00:24:40
Speaker
He always finds like a gym, you know, somewhere, some kind of track. And how the hell are they good? But he just doesn't have that this year. You know, he took some guys that, you know, Camaro ended up being a good pick, and I know he loves to scream about how good a picker that was after I laughed, which I don't remember laughing. Maybe I did, maybe I didn't. But, um man, I just don't think Andrew's team's that good this year. I would love to see him in the same office. I would love to see him.
00:25:09
Speaker
you know, get the norm. And just, I think Karma is coming back for Andrew this year. I think that's part of, Karma already kind of screws him with getting second place so many times, but I think there's a new low that he needs to experience, you know? And I think that new low is coming this year and I, you know, he's a another one. It hurts him to his core to see me successful. I mean, he hates it. He hates it.
00:25:39
Speaker
So, you know, with him being the immature child that he is, I'm not surprised that when he lost, he resulted to, Oh, what is Larry? down and oh larryness pop I get it. I get it. I will be mad too. If I had to look at my rival, you know, and I was immature and I had to look at him when I get it. Yeah. Post, post-loss people and their feelings is great for the lead.
00:26:07
Speaker
Especially, you know, it's personal when you, you take him down. He was, ah obviously you know, he usually calls me food, doesn't taste, you know, he usually calls me, you know, he'll talk a little bit, you know, I have not heard from Andrew.
00:26:24
Speaker
no I haven't heard from him in one time since we played, so I know he's pissed. I usually get it. Usually if there was like a Sunday night game and I got somebody close or something, it's coming down to that, he'll give me a call and no, not this time, not this time. I don't know why it's so personal this time, but yeah, he he was pissed.
00:26:47
Speaker
Yeah, I know Andrew. He's in mid-season form, bringing up luck after four weeks. that's That's what I know. I've got Andrew right where I want him. Larry, there is only there is only one more matchup, but it's the Norm and Jake who doesn't even listen to the pod. So we're not even going to talk about them. Goodwin, Norm. You mentioned wanting to see Andrew in the shame offs.
00:27:15
Speaker
We're going to do a quick little norm watch segment and get your takes on some teams in a free fall and one team that ah has not had a losing, at least a three game losing streak like two of these teams, but I'm putting them on the hot seat. So Larry and Rob both on three game losing streaks, we're putting these two teams on norm watch, a three game losing streak.
00:27:43
Speaker
Food doesn't taste good anymore. ah You're shorter with your kids, shorter with your wife. Work isn't ah jiving with you. It just sucks. So, larry ah Larry, I have to ask, when you think about Rob's team and AJ's team, who's in a bigger freefall right now? Rob, for sure. Oh, it's easy. Rob.
00:28:06
Speaker
and um AJ has potential though. I would not be surprised. It's just, you don't know what you're going to get. There's inconsistencies with AJ's team. That's my biggest problem. I think if AJ made trade here or there, he could patch up those holes. He has a fixable squad. Rob, you know, everybody asks the question, is Larry good at fantasy football? Okay. The question now needs to be asked, is Rob good at fantasy football? What has he done since the championship?
00:28:37
Speaker
What has he done? He has sucked way more than he's been good. I mean, he's the only person, what did he draft that one year, five straight running backs, four straight running backs? I mean, maybe so it was it was crazy and he sucked that year, right? So he gets he's living off the the the glory of a championship from a decade ago and he hasn't let it go.
00:29:04
Speaker
hast let it go what is rob doing and thisly <unk> suffer for me How many times has he made the playoffs since he's been in the championship? Well, since 2016, Rob ah has finished he's He's finished pretty poorly. He missed the playoffs in 2017. He missed the playoffs in 2018. In 2019, he got fourth, missed the playoffs in 2020, got the norm in 2021, made the playoffs what was immediately knocked out in 2022, finished third, and then finished fourth in 2023.

Speaker
Technically speaking, nothing. but I don't see anything there. All the vibrato, they speak, to all of them. Oh, I got, I got these players, I do this, I do that. You've done nothing, Rob. You have the same thing, you have one championship, okay? Since that championship, you got something I don't got, a norm. You were a norm, Rob. You sucked so bad, you were at the bottom. The absolute bottom. But you still walk around with your chest pumped out.
00:30:10
Speaker
You haven't made more than three trades since you made money. I don't wanna, because you you you're the only people that see me trades. I guess everybody thinks I'm an idiot. So they'll send me a trade that's just completely stupid and expect me to accept the trade. If you send me a competent trade, I'll accept it. I think me and James have made deals before. He sent me a respectful trade. But if you send me, let's say I have a healthy Christian McCaffrey, and you say, hey, Larry, I'm going to send you, I'm going to send you, give me a Joanne Jennings. I'm going to say no.
00:30:46
Speaker
I'm not going to accept that, Andrew. Rob. So no, I'm not a nut trade person. Just don't send me crap. Sorry to go off on a tangent, but that just needs to be said. No, no, no. That needed to be said. I agree. I just want to correct something because Rob will lose his shit over this. He's actually won two two championships. He won one a couple of years before that. Oh, yeah. He won 10. I know that i know i would get a call yeah I would get a call tomorrow morning from Rob saying, Blake, just listen to the podcast.
00:31:17
Speaker
By the way, I can't believe you didn't correct Larry. I've won two championships. I just wanted to say that for the record. You're welcome, Rob. I know you've won two. You've got one more than me. You could argue they were very forgettable championships now what if we can't even. One year. Now, I did view Rob as a very formidable opponent during those years. He was scrapping. He was crawling. He just did his thing. He just really inched his way to the top. you know And I respected that day.
00:31:47
Speaker
At some point, you got to let it go. You got to let it go, man. It's like it's like watching Philip former during the glory years, right? When we get to 2008, 2007, it's like Philip, you're still running the same offense from 1994. You got to let it go. That's all I'm saying. That's all I'm saying. So our bottom four, Larry, we got right now, if the shame off started today,
00:32:15
Speaker
and And James and I were talking about this briefly before the show. You got Yes Chef at seven, Deomish slash Rob at eight, the Bandwagoner at nine, and AJ at 10 is like what yeah ESPN is projecting, right? If you had to like look at like power rankings, which is really interesting. I don't see that's how it would play out that way because Bomby isn't dead last, then you got Jake,
00:32:44
Speaker
AJ and Rob, but regardless, any of those teams in the shame offs would be pretty new. I mean, does Bobby have a norm? I don't think so. I thought Bobby did have a norm. Does he have one? I thought he had one, but I could be wrong. No, he took me down. He took me down. Yeah, he was terrified of it. I know Rob doesn't have a norm. He takes a lot of pride in that. I know AJ doesn't have a norm. Rob does have a norm.
00:33:13
Speaker
You're correct, you're correct. Rob has his one norm. How many does Jake have? How many norms does Jake have? I truly do not know this. And it might just be two. I know he has one for sure. He's got at least one. He's got one for sure. So the teams with no norms that could fall in the shame ops right now would be Bommie and AJ. Either one of those teams getting the norm would be very interesting. Would be very interesting.
00:33:39
Speaker
Wow. But I mean, a lot of season to go, a lot of season to go. I think it is, like you said, Larry, way too early to make a call on things. Yeah. And Larry, I heard you say you kind of foresee AJ climbing out of that. Can you give us a take on that before I get to our next team? Yeah. I mean, just when I take a quick look at AJ Squan, okay. yeah If Kenneth Walker stays healthy, all right, DeAndre Smith stays healthy.
00:34:07
Speaker
And he has, he has, kenneth if he kills while he gets hurt, all right, he has that hank over there. Let's say the Jaguars turn their season around and he gets some quality out of Travis Etienne. I think those three pieces are some tradable pieces that he can maybe sure up his wide receivers with, right? There's, you know, quarterback wise, I don't know about that, but I do think he can make a couple of trades that may sure up his wide receivers. I think he gets one solid wide receiver and hopefully a competent quarterback for Tyreek U.
00:34:43
Speaker
Like just somebody found ways to get him the ball there's potential there. I don't I still see him as a norm candidate But there's a small window for him to really make it happen in my opinion Yeah, I I would love to see he was my championship pick. That was a ah very bad take by me You doing well and will doing well were great takes by me, but we're not here to pat myself on the back the other team That i'm looking at that i'm putting square and he's even admitted he's shifting his focus here to the shame offs as Bommie. Currently 305.96.4. That is an average of 76.5 points a week. That is not getting the job done. I'm curious if you can give us a little take on what you've touched on already, how Bommie's doing in general with the squad not adapting and
00:35:39
Speaker
how he's doing as Kamish as a topper.

Commissioner's Performance and Podcast Feedback

00:35:42
Speaker
You know, as far as him, I'm really shocked at how bad he is this year. ah When I look at Bobby, I just expect him to be good at fantasy football, which is what I expect. For so many years, just a model of consistency. And then for this drop-off is just something I haven't predicted. I do think going to the live draft has hurt Bobby. Something about the live draft has depleted him.
00:36:08
Speaker
and he has not recovered. I don't know what that's about, but that's just what it is. Him as a commission, okay? I'm also shocked that his reign as a commission. Again, I think Vami represents consistency, all right? That's what I was expecting from him as a commission. Do I think he's done a bad job? No, I don't think he's done a bad job. I do think power is going to his hand, okay?
00:36:38
Speaker
I think he's gotten a little power, hungry, a little power driven. And I think his decisions are more based off of his ego than it is the betterment of the league. All right? His ego has become fragile, right? his His skin is very thin now. He's very stressed. And I'm wondering, can he really handle the responsibilities of the committee? Right? Now, is mommy capable? Yes. He's very capable.
00:37:08
Speaker
Do I believe in Bami? Absolutely. Absolutely. I voted for him. I think he's the guy from the job. He's definitely better than anything Jake would have ever done because Jake would have done nothing. But I think Bami needs to have a look at himself in the mirror and say, you know what, Bami? Get back to being who you are. Okay. Who who is Bami as a...
00:37:32
Speaker
member of the League of Hard Knives. Who am I? He needs to have that conversation and look within and then make the decision to give us 100% or give us nothing at all. And last thing, ask the commissioner going to take heed. It's just a way of it. like James will always be my favorite commissioner. James, we cry, complain, say whatever. He took it on the chin, addressed the issues and moved on.
00:37:57
Speaker
Okay. So you got to do it, bro. You got to take it, man. You can't get upset. You can't get in your feelings. Take it and move on. That's all I'm Interesting. I'm blushing over those comments, Larry. I'm curious if Bommie has the ability for the long run. I do think he's doing a good job. I voted for Bommie. We all knew Jake wasn't really going to last. Part of me wishes we could have let that play out a little bit further, but I do worry about Bommie making it even to the three year mark, the way things are progressing. I'm curious, did you ah tune in to the podcast where Bommie came on? And what was your take on that? And do you think the bridge is broken at this point with the commissioner and the podcast? Or do you think there's a chance for a redemptive arc and for him to come back on? I think there's a redemptive arc for him to come back on.
00:38:54
Speaker
but you guys are probably gonna have to have a conversation with them first, okay? Have a man the demand, hey, Bobby, this is what it is. You know, you might gotta to come with a slice of humble pie. Sorry for bombarding you, okay? Now, y'all gotta say that. Now, I could say he was dead, but it was still weak as hell. I'm sorry, that's just what I felt. Now, I could say that, but as far as y'all, as the you know curators of the podcast, hey, Bobby, we're sorry.
00:39:25
Speaker
let's extend his olive branch comeback. So I do think, I think he's a reasonable guy. I'm siding with the fact that Obama is going to get back to himself. That's what I'm believing in. I think if he gets back to being who he is in this league, there should be no reason that he can't come on and address the members of the league in the proper way.
00:39:48
Speaker
I totally agree, Larry. we We took a big reach as a podcast and maybe Having Bommie on the same video screen with Andrew is a bit too much. I think that was really the issue was the bombardment. But we're we're taking creative risk here and that's what we're about on Stone by Cornbread. Larry, I know we're keeping you from your kids at this point. A lot of people are detractors of the podcast. Some people even claiming they're boycotting. I'm curious if you've got any feedback for the podcast. We can call this so
00:40:19
Speaker
a roast of stone by cornbread, if you will. We're open to feedback. I'm new to this. I'm trying to get better. Blake's got some podcast roots with the ah Atlanta soccer team. He's a little more seasoned. Just give us some feedback. Keep it raw. Throw it on us because I want to be fair and balanced here. I don't have too many critiques. I love the podcast. I'm a big podcast listening guy. ah really I really think like If other people heard this, they will probably think it was hilarious to listen a bunch of guys in their mid thirties talking about fantasy football and argue. Like that is hilarious to me. My only control, like this can't be your, this can't be where you air out all your grievances. Okay. If you need your own personal podcast to go talk about your issues, then you go get your own personal podcast. But this ain't where you come bring all of your grievances about the league.
00:41:16
Speaker
Okay, because that's what you've done a few times. Nobody want to hear about you with all that. Just, hey, stick to the topics. But overall, if I had to give up on a scale of one to 100 as a teacher, 93. Okay, not 100%. I enjoyed the podcast. Great content. I think anytime we get this, it's always good. but i need you I need the guests to step it up. If you're in this league, if you come on the podcast, be you. Are you scared that our wives are listening? Stop being scared of your wives. They know y'all. They know who y'all are. They're not surprised that you guys are idiots. They know they knew we were idiots when they married us. It's up to them to deal with it. And we got kids now, so they chose to deal with it.
00:42:03
Speaker
Right? So be yourself when you come on. But I love the podcast. I think it's a good way to keep the lead moving forward. I'm all for it. Good stuff, Larry. um What time do the what time of the kids go to bed these days? I know no we're keeping you a little bit. The attempt is 8.30. My guess is Serena's probably over it tonight. So when I walk in the house, they're going to be up.
00:42:30
Speaker
Um, just because she's over and she's like, where's Leah? Cause I've been out a lot. I've been busy. It's nothing bad between grad school and got a couple of other things I'm doing. I've just been busy. So I know she's like over, but you know, her birthday's coming up and I'm gonna treat her real good. So she'll be. hard Hey, 9 o'clock, 9.15, we'll always have you on no matter how late it is. i saw what james did I saw what James did there, by the way, which I'm trying to be more upfront about my stirring the pot. So yes, Bami, that was a direct attack on you saying that 8.30 was too late. So I'm working on it.
00:43:08
Speaker
Two-pointer Larry. Yeah, Larry. Yeah, Blake's going into his playbook. Larry, thank you again for giving us ah your time, your passion, your unfiltered thoughts.

Friendship and League Camaraderie

00:43:22
Speaker
I agree. That's what makes the league better. We need guests always drive up a listenership.
00:43:29
Speaker
and when the guests are their authentic self even more. So thank you for being you tonight. Thank y'all. I'm you know, appreciate y'all boys. Hey, I'm always gonna leave with this. Blake said it before, we're all group of best friends, been friends for years. Like a lot of people don't got this. Like for real. Like when you think about it, there's not a lot of people out there that can say I have friends.
00:43:51
Speaker
from when I was 14 or 15 years old, 20 plus years of friendship to where they still communicate. this This is pretty cool. So that's why I say, keep it light. Stop getting at your feelings. We fought and scratched and cussed each other out. We're all still here and we're not going anywhere. So get your panties out of a lot. Enjoy enjoy being in a league with your brothers and and just have fun. That's all I say.
00:44:18
Speaker
Absolutely. Absolutely. Larry, I agree. I think i think you might have listened when I told told the league that I told my dad about this and and he's jealous. I mean, there's a guy in his mid sixties and he's like, damn, I wish I still kept up with my high school friends. And it's it's it's a channel for that, but we all are friends. Absolutely.
00:44:38
Speaker
so Appreciate your time, Larry. You're welcome on the pod any time. Who do you want to see on the pod? I know we're inviting Will. that's That's the last question. Who do you want to see next? who who's Who's a guy that you think should come on here and be himself as you stated? I want I want him. um want bra I want I want him to come and just fall, man. I need that in my eye. I want to see him be himself on there. I think I want that.
00:45:09
Speaker
I want that. Yeah, we need IPA, Jay. i p j do. All right, Larry. Thanks so much for joining. Have a great night. Best wishes to you and the fam. We'll see you soon. All right. Y'all have a good night, man. Peace.
