Ken Freire
Welcome back to another fantastic episode of Solo Scaled. I am your host, Ken Freire, and today have Deanna Beckett with me. Deanna, welcome to the show.
00:00:11
Deanna Becket
Thank you. It's great to be here.
00:00:14
Ken Freire
Yeah, Deanna, I'm really excited talk about what you do because there's so many people who need what you have. And the group that you serve, I think is going to really important, especially for the constituents that I know. And I think about this and I'm like, wow, this hits really home for me with my wife. And we have five kids at the house. You might hear some of them at the point of this recording. But tell people what you do and we'll jump into that.
00:00:52
Deanna Becket
Maybe it's after 2020. We've all gone remote. There's a lot of moms that are trying to work business from home. I started working a business from home when my kids were young.
00:00:58
Ken Freire
Thank
00:01:01
Deanna Becket
I homeschooled my kids. And now my focus is helping those moms navigate the waters of balancing it all, of staying sane in it all. And so my focus or my purpose, I actually wrote out a few months ago, is I help faith-filled mompreneurs rise above fear and doubt by reigniting their God-given passion so they're refreshed, renewed, and confidently equipped to lead with peace and purpose. And there's a lot of words in there, but it's things that I have worked on, have overcome, have built in my life. And my goal is to reach more of those folks and help them get out of their fear circle. Sometimes, you know, we just sit and stew in our daily tasks and we wonder how we're going to break out of it. So my goal is to reach more and get them out of that.
00:01:55
Ken Freire
Praise God. And we need more of that because there's a lot of moms out there who are trying to feed their families. There are moms out there who are also just, they have these giftings and passions and they don't know what to do with it.
00:02:06
Ken Freire
At the same time, raising a family, which is, by God's grace, one of the hardest things to do 24-7. I mean, anytime people are like, oh, moms have it easy. I'm like, you must not be near a mom because it is literally...
00:02:19
Ken Freire
the hardest job would rather do anything else i mean we just to give people context i have five kids uh we homeschool them as well so i see what my my wife is doing and it's like do you deal with the crying baby and disciplining three kids at the same time and i'm like well i'm go over here and record a podcast which one's harder
00:02:40
Deanna Becket
Amen.
00:02:40
Ken Freire
So Deanna, walk us through, how did you get started in this?
00:02:45
Ken Freire
Like, you know, out of all the different places you could go in starting a business, you were like, no, I really want to help mompreneurs. Why'd you go that route? Yeah.
00:02:55
Deanna Becket
I started at home businesses, so network marketing, back when my kids were little. I remember my daughter was probably two years old and she was unloading boxes of product with her, know, she was bent over in a box, falling in the box. And I remember just having those doubts and those wonderings about how am I going to build this business? How am I going to do this with managing, getting my husband to commit to being home alone with the kids in the evenings while I went out and did shows and sales presentations?
00:03:28
Deanna Becket
And from there, it just grew. And I glommed on to what we call self-help, which I don't like that term, but, know, self-development and getting out of our heads and fixing those thoughts and just growing and building that, resetting my mind for probably the last 20, 25 years.
00:03:50
Deanna Becket
And so I built little businesses here and grew them and grew them. And I just felt a passion to speak on stages, be keynote speaking, speak in front of homeschool graduations. That was one of my favorites in May.
00:04:07
Deanna Becket
My goodness, I can't remember 2018, 2019. And I got to fly out and present at a homeschool graduation. But just reaching these folks that need a message of hope and knowing that they're not alone, that there's so many more of us that are going through the same thing, whether it's, you know, a baby on the hip or walking through graduation or college graduations with their kids. And so I've got that experience of having at-home businesses, cottage businesses, whatever we call them now, and trying to do it all with a little bit more grace. So that is my, not backstory, but my focus that. Thank
00:04:49
Ken Freire
Yeah. So when you're helping mompreneurs, you know, they're trying to start up a business. There's all these limiting beliefs or fears that they have. Let's first talk about the business aspect.
00:05:01
Ken Freire
Is there a certain type of business you're helping them grow or is it like any type of business, like whatever's on their heart?
00:05:05
Deanna Becket
I think it's, yeah, I think it's really any type of business, but I relate to, you know, the network marketing type of business. And again, that limiting belief, I think I sat and stewed in that for so many years. And that's what kept me stuck in my businesses. And you know, decided to step out of those businesses and instead a coach.
00:05:27
Deanna Becket
And it might not be, you know, coaching the, you know, the top leadership per se, where they have, you know, mastered some of these skills, but maybe some of those folks that are, you know, just beginning or seem stuck in certain levels, those entry levels, and they just can't break through that little ceiling. And a lot of times it's a mindset.
00:05:46
Deanna Becket
And so we want to really discover where we're stuck and what is that next flip, that next switch we need to flip to get to the next realm.
00:06:01
Ken Freire
What are some of the common trends or common limiting beliefs that you find people getting stuck in?
00:06:09
Deanna Becket
Okay. trying to think if there's specific ones, but you know, it's, I'm not good enough. I'm not old enough. I'm too old. I don't have enough experience. I've got way too much experience. I'm overqualified. Uh, there's so many things. I mean, just thinking of, folks that I've talked to, in, in businesses and, uh,
00:06:32
Deanna Becket
Other coaches, other people that are building their speaking businesses, a lot of them think that the market is dry or it's oversaturated. There's too many people in that particular business or there's too many representatives in my little town in that particular niche or whatever.
00:06:51
Deanna Becket
So that's one of those things. But to be able to flip that switch and get them to think, you know, there's how many billion people on the face of the earth and we're not limited to our physical location anymore. It's all digital.
00:07:06
Deanna Becket
And that was one of my beliefs that I had was I'm stuck. There's only so much potential. And we've got to, you know, break out of that little glass bottle and remember that, you know, in each country, mean, there's multiple countries beside our countries. And we're able to reach more people that way. So that's one limiting thing is where we are, location.
00:07:30
Ken Freire
Yeah, proximity. remember when it unlocked for me, when I was like, people are coaching online all the time? And they're like, yeah, they've been doing it for years. Even before COVID, people were doing online coaching. I was like, no way. It just dawned on me, I could do this. And I remember when I branched out right around 2020,
00:07:51
Ken Freire
to start my own career. And I had very, it's funny that you talked about all those limiting beliefs because you, you know, you specifically target moms, but all of us struggle with those. I was like, oh yeah, that's my list. Like, I was like, were you looking at my diary just now? What's going on here? Because of how much we struggle at the beginning to start our business. We feel like we're not good enough. We don't have enough experience. I'm too young. I'm too old. People are not going to listen to me. There's so many of that stuff. Is there like a certain framework that you walk people through to go from a limiting belief in what I've learned from Michael Hyatt, that he calls it a liberating truth?
00:08:30
Ken Freire
But you might have a different terminology for it, but pretty much getting from being stuck to unstuck.
00:08:35
Deanna Becket
Great. Yeah, I'm just trying think if there is term. I've created an online course called Eek to Excellence.
00:08:43
Ken Freire
Ooh.
00:08:44
Deanna Becket
It's a keynote as well, which I'm recreating. But we all live in little eek bubble and we want to grow and rise out of it and excellence. But another thought that I had with that question is what what practice or what daily habit will help us get out of that. And since we're, you know, biblical minded, love taking Bible verses and rewriting them into first person to be able to claim them as our own.
00:09:15
Deanna Becket
And I wish I had my little book with me. I'm looking beside me. Ooh, it is here. But just a verse, a sample of it is, or looking for verses that are great to claim as our own. Psalm 119.37 has caused my eyes to turn away from looking at worthlessness and and revive me in your ways. And there's so many, there's so many more. And it's just being able to take those and flip them. And it's not a, an overnight success thing. It's not an, you know, next week, you're going to be, know, you're going to be out of your eek. I mean, I will backslide into that, that eek thinking as well. But being able to
00:09:55
Deanna Becket
recognize it when you're feeling it and get back in the word and get back into speaking that life and that power back into your mind. Because what we speak out of our mouths, we hear it first.
00:10:07
Deanna Becket
And it's just power that we speak back into our heads.
00:10:10
Ken Freire
Yeah. Well, what I have found many times is we are our worst own critic. Like we just talk, there's so much negative self-talk. I think, man, this was years ago, probably like 10, 15 years ago, there was a study that said like 70% of what we talk to ourselves like negative.
00:10:27
Ken Freire
And it was just fascinating. I'm like, oh my gosh. And when I started catching how much negative talk I have, I had to do something very similar with scripture and I'm like, I need to just indoctrinate myself in a good way with scripture. I need to meditate on the word day and night because left to my own self, I am constantly talking bad.
00:10:48
Ken Freire
about myself and condemning myself and sometimes it's listening to just the lies of the enemy right it's one or the other where it's like no no what does god say what is god's truth what did he say about me that's what's the most important aspect about that how much have you found deanna that like as as you're talking to people that it's this negative track that they have versus like the enemy attacking them versus them just listening to the world like have you found any trends there
00:10:50
Deanna Becket
Yeah.
00:11:16
Deanna Becket
Data, not so much, but just talking to people. In fact, I was just talking to a couple of folks the other day, and they went to a meeting, and it was a legislative meeting.
00:11:19
Ken Freire
Yeah.
00:11:26
Deanna Becket
And the bulk of the conversation, 90% of the meeting was negative. It was, you know, bashing down, you know, just constant complaining about, you know,
00:11:38
Deanna Becket
whatever that they were supposed to be talking about. And only 10% was positive and forward moving. And that's just one specific instance. I don't think it's that high, you know, generally in public, but I think we deal with it a lot because of the media bombardment.
00:11:53
Ken Freire
Yeah.
00:11:55
Deanna Becket
And that's one of the things, the tips that I give folks that I talk to is turn off the TV, turn off the radio and find our own uh positive channels for for lack of a better reason but look for those uh people that are speaking life and uh speaking truth rather than parroting what's coming out of the media and uh just the the fear and the and the yuck that comes the general everyday uh listening of tv and radio
00:12:24
Ken Freire
Yeah. So as you are helping people walk through this, their mindset shifts, what have you done personally for your business to start growing? Because there's a lot of people out there who are like, I'm listening. I'm trying to grow my business, but there's a lot of manipulative tactics out there. There's a lot of shady stuff out there. And they're like, this doesn't, it's not working for me.
00:12:46
Ken Freire
I need something that works for my personality, the way I'm wired. What's worked for you?
00:12:51
Deanna Becket
Absolutely. This year, 2025 was a, was a shift year for me. had gone down, just kind of, just kind of stagnant. I mean, not necessarily tanked like a, you know, a negative, but I could feel I was just, just blah.
00:13:07
Deanna Becket
And I, I would, I would doubt, would hesitate. I would, kind of do what I needed to do, get by. And I knew there was more, you know, God has more for us and for each and every one of us.
00:13:19
Deanna Becket
And there was a time where I went discernment and decision. mean, those were two words that just came out of my journaling and everything is ask for discernment.
00:13:32
Deanna Becket
And God asks us to ask for wisdom all the time. Ask for discernment and make a decision. we've known that probably all of our lives. It's like we make decisions every 30 seconds or even closer to every 10 seconds because we're always deciding something.
00:13:48
Deanna Becket
But when there's something medium to large that's coming across your plate or that's an idea, make a decision. Just make that executive decision and go, okay, yes, I'm doing this.
00:13:59
Deanna Becket
No, I'm not doing that. So those were the two big ahas this past year. was making sure I was discerning and asking for discerning, slowing down and listening to, know, whatever resources I had to make sure was picking the right Path for what to listen to, picking the right path for activities to do, picking the right path for the right people to hire or the people to, you know, contract for different projects and things.
00:14:33
Deanna Becket
Those are the things, discernment and decision.
00:14:37
Ken Freire
With discernment and decision, have you found anything that you're like, this unpopular viewpoint is going to ruffle the 99% of people and how they believe on stuff?
00:14:51
Deanna Becket
Sometimes. Yeah. I mean, there's, there's, there's such division. I mean, it's, it's, it's all over. I mean, it's not just, you know, political or religion or you name it, color, race, creed, whatever it is, there's so much divisiveness. So we're going to be doing things that probably don't, you know, sit well with other people.
00:15:15
Deanna Becket
But, know, God gives us the ability to communicate and to share what, how we can not necessarily sell the idea, but show the importance of, you know, why, you know, what I'm doing matters and what the truthful little, you know, factoids or data points would be.
00:15:39
Ken Freire
Yeah. So as you're thinking about that, we've kind of been circling around this conversation, but I'm going to break the ice for everybody. Deanna, you have a new book that is coming out. By the time this podcast is published, your book would be out because your book is coming out February 2nd, correct?
00:15:55
Deanna Becket
Correct.
00:15:56
Ken Freire
Walk us through how does, with everything that we're talking about, how does your book tie into it?
00:16:02
Deanna Becket
The book is entitled, Shocking Your Shtick, 99 Ways to Shine with People. And in the development of the subtitle, I developed kind of my word for 2026 and my Bible verse. And it kind of revolves around that shine and lift up and brighten.
00:16:21
Deanna Becket
And so my word is lift. But the book focuses on common sense things that people can do to shift sometimes their mindset.
00:16:31
Deanna Becket
A lot of times it's just, you know, daily habits, what we are doing, say, like one of the first ones that I kick off because it's, it's divided into four parts. One is shine in finances.
00:16:43
Deanna Becket
And the first thing out of the book is budget. And it's the worst. It's the, you know, it's almost swear word, almost like, you know, the politics or whatever.
00:16:49
Ken Freire
Thank you.
00:16:50
Deanna Becket
It's almost like a swear words budget. Oh, control my spending. But how many of us actually, you know, control where our money goes? And it's just a basic, simple thing. So I walked through some simple things on how to save money, how to, you know, expand our budget, how to limit ourselves, self-control. and other things on, you know, basic shopping, fixing our own vehicles, changing our own tires, whatever it is. And then it just builds on that. But going back to the subtitle is looking at how we can shine with people. So every little, they're not necessarily chapters, they're just portions. They're a way, 99 They are
00:17:33
Deanna Becket
mentioned the importance of why we need to do this so that we can shine with other people. So for example, make your bed is one of my chapters and how is making your bed going to help you shine with other people? Well, number one, it sets a priority for your day. It said you've checked something off your list. And you're able to crawl back into a freshly made bed at the end of the day. So you've got something accomplished and you set your day forward with that. And so making your bed doesn't necessarily help you shine with other people or
00:18:07
Deanna Becket
Or other people aren't going to look at you and go, well, geez, she didn't make her bed this morning. I don't know if that's a real important thing. But it's something that is clicking in your brain of, I can accomplish this. Okay, checked off this. Now I can accomplish. Now I can rewrite this chapter. Now I can call this next week.
00:18:22
Deanna Becket
person and, you know, book an appointment to see if I can, you know, get in front of them for, you know, whatever sales items or, or I can create the next blog post for with my affiliate link, whatever it is.
00:18:34
Deanna Becket
And it's just another step in those dominoes of being able to accomplish something. But I would love to share with you the details of the shine that I looked up in Hebrews, not Hebrews, the chapter, but in the book, the book, in the language, thank you.
00:18:54
Ken Freire
Language.
00:18:56
Deanna Becket
But the words that describe shine and light in Hebrew just brought joy to my day. And hopefully they do with you as well. And I hope to bring this to more mompreneurs.
00:19:06
Deanna Becket
But this is what it means in Hebrew. Happiness, bright, cheerfulness, to be light, cause to shine forth, carry up, cast up, climb up, come up, bring up, spring up, stir up, lift up, bubble up, rejoice, shout.
00:19:23
Deanna Becket
And my favorite to glitter. And another word for glitter is sparkle.
00:19:26
Ken Freire
Yeah.
00:19:27
Deanna Becket
And I know glitter is not a Hebrew word, but the, the interpretation or the modification. And, know, after hearing those words, doesn't it just kind of make you, you know, bubble up, lift up, you rise up.
00:19:39
Deanna Becket
And so that's where my word for the year lift came from. That's kind of the focus of the book and, and my coaching, I kind got a, you know, another shift this fall of what, what joy I can bring to other people.
00:19:56
Ken Freire
Yeah. Well, and as I listen to you, Deanna, the thing that comes to mind is like there's all these mompreneurs that are even future mompreneurs, right? They're moms who want to do things, but they're so down on themselves. All they see right now in front of them is the overwhelm of being a mom.
00:20:14
Ken Freire
the dishes that need to be cleaned, the laundry, the kids, their clothes, all over the place. The playroom's a mess. Everything is just in front of them is chaotic.
00:20:24
Ken Freire
And when you're saying, hey, let's add... building a business on top of that, they're like, no way, I can't do that. You're smoking crack, right? Like they're just like, that's impossible.
00:20:35
Ken Freire
But what I love is that you're saying, here's the problem, but the solution is actually really counterintuitive. It's to shine, it's to start getting out of your head and start doing these outward things, these habits that you're building to lift yourself up, get yourself out of yourself obviously first and foremost to God and then to others. And the more you do that, you start to realign your life with, oh, look, I do have some time or I can see a way where I can build my business and become a mompreneur if that's what they want. And if they don't, they're like, I'm still lifting up my eyes. I'm still glorifying God and I'm still helping others. It's a win-win situation. That's kind of what I'm hearing as I'm processing everything you're talking about.
00:21:16
Deanna Becket
Yeah, it's a good summary. And I remember hearing that in my first network marketing days was get out of my head and focus on others.
00:21:26
Deanna Becket
But when we are so, don't want to say timid because I wasn't timid. I was almost timid inside, but boisterous on the outside. So it was a false front. But there's that that fear that intrepidation, whatever it is inside. And, you know, we put on this mask, but yet we've got this lower self-esteem. I don't like phrasing it that way, but it's just, there's some stuff that's keeping us stuck.
00:21:54
Deanna Becket
And once we get over that little hump, we're able to shine and give God glory and, you know, bring
00:21:54
Ken Freire
Yeah.
00:22:03
Deanna Becket
bring our skills to those other people that need us, whether it's moms or, you know, the mompreneurs that are working and they're, know, reaching lots of other different type of markets.
00:22:13
Ken Freire
Yeah. Deanna, right now, you're building your business, what are some of the challenges that you're facing that you're like, oh, you know, everybody's got them. 2026 is going to bring curveballs. It's already brought curveballs for our country. But for you, as you're growing your business, you're kind of like, hmm, this is going to be a challenge.
00:22:32
Deanna Becket
At first, I thought it was going to time because I was trying to crunch as much as I could with my marketing and promotion of my book, in particular here. And I stepped back and I reached out to my social media manager and walked through some things because she helped me launch my first book.
00:22:53
Deanna Becket
with the digital copy. And I said, what we need to do? How do we need to do it here? And she walked me through, she basically talked me off a ledge because I was just like, I don't have enough time to do all this. I don't have enough time to, you know, get, you know, this done and this blog. And I mean, I've got a list beside me going, I need to get this done.
00:23:14
Deanna Becket
But she reminded me, you don't have to, you don't have to launch it all at once. You can do one piece one month. You can do another piece another, but you've got the whole year. I'm like, oh yeah, that's right. I always think at the beginning of the year, maybe there's other mompreneurs, maybe there's other business people that go, I don't have it all done by January 15th or by January 31st. Then my year is just a total waste.
00:23:36
Deanna Becket
No, we've got more time than what we have. And when we discern and go back to discerning, we see and hear that it is it can be extended.
00:23:48
Deanna Becket
And in the words of another fellow coworker of mine from years past, she says, we're not birthing babies. It's not immediate. If the email doesn't get sent today, it's okay. It'll get sent tomorrow. And we deal with what we need to deal with today, do as much as we can and let the rest back to God.
00:24:07
Ken Freire
Yeah, it's fascinating how sometimes self-imposed timelines cause unnecessary anxiety in our lives.
00:24:14
Deanna Becket
That's what catches me not breathing as deep at the middle of the day or middle of the night. Like, stop it. I'm, I'm, it's all self-imposed. It truly
00:24:24
Ken Freire
Yeah, I mean, my wife will tell me all the time. I'll come out and I'll do a deep exhale and she's like... everything's going be okay. are you stressed out about right now? I'm like, well, I got this, this, this, and this. And he's like, why do you have to do it right now? I'm like, uh, cause I want to like, cause I feel like I need to like, why? I'm like, I don't know. Like, cause I want to feel ahead. You know, like there's all these, limiting beliefs or lies that I listened to about growing a business that many times I'm like, Oh, I don't need to do those. Everything's okay.
00:24:52
Ken Freire
Those are being paid.
00:24:53
Deanna Becket
Yeah.
00:24:53
Ken Freire
Family's taken care of. I have time for my friends and family. okay, cool. I could relax. Like the main things are the main things. Praise God.
00:25:00
Deanna Becket
Yeah.
00:25:01
Ken Freire
Everything else is just trying get ahead.
00:25:02
Deanna Becket
And I was, yeah, I was just thinking that on Sunday night, Sunday afternoon, was like four or five hours that I was just wasting. I was reading, I was scrolling, was, you know, playing a game on my phone. I was like, why am I doing this? I should be doing, I got this list. And I went,

Deanna Becket
No, because it's the weekend and it's Sunday. That list can wait till Monday morning. And I just sat back and relaxed and let that anxiety fall off. We've got to, we got to prioritize and put up boundaries.
00:25:27
Ken Freire
Yeah.
00:25:31
Deanna Becket
That's a, that's a huge, that's another topic, but that's, that's a huge thing. Like you said.
00:25:37
Ken Freire
Yeah. Awesome. Well, Deanna, as we wrap up our time together, there's five questions I've been asking everyone. It's the expert led business trend report that I've been doing. And it's the same questions I've been asking to see where everybody's at in the industry and how things are going. So I'd love to hear your answers. You don't have to take very long, quick 30 seconds for each one. And we'll go from there. So question number one is, what's something in your business you're experimenting with right now?
00:26:03
Deanna Becket
Rebranding and resetting. Let's see. Rebranding, resetting. Not goals because I've got those set, but looking at different markets.
00:26:16
Deanna Becket
So expanding my markets.
00:26:17
Ken Freire
Yeah.
00:26:18
Deanna Becket
Yep.
00:26:19
Ken Freire
Great. Question number two, which part of your business feels most in flux or like, this part is not as strong as it should be?
00:26:28
Deanna Becket
Hmm.
00:26:30
Deanna Becket
I would say probably my reach, my audience. It's not as big as I want it right now, but it's growing. So that's all that matters is I keep doing something every day to expand it.
00:26:41
Ken Freire
Yeah. Praise God. Okay. Question number three. What's a goal you're building toward this year that you're really excited about?
00:26:49
Deanna Becket
200,000 books in 2026. In the hands of buying customers, I should be more specific.
00:26:53
Ken Freire
Trying to get.
00:26:57
Ken Freire
Oh, that's a great one. All right. Question number four. Where do you see the industry, the coaching industry, shifting and how are you preparing for it?
00:27:08
Deanna Becket
shifting. course, we've already talked about it, you know, more digital. oh my goodness. And I know we've got already, you know, set up with, courses, digital courses, but just having it more, what's the word I'm looking for? Have it more strategic or,
00:27:27
Deanna Becket
set up where it's, it's, oh my goodness, I'm trying to, struggling with the words, it's more automatic, automated, not less personable, but all the automation.
00:27:32
Ken Freire
Yeah.
00:27:36
Deanna Becket
So I'm not chasing the email and chasing the message and had just had the automation. So that's what I'm working on is, is the automation of everything.
00:27:44
Ken Freire
I love it. So still automating as much as you can, still keeping high touch is going the focus.
00:27:48
Deanna Becket
Yeah, exactly.
00:27:50
Ken Freire
Okay. right.
00:27:50
Deanna Becket
Mm-hmm.
00:27:50
Ken Freire
Last question. What's the legacy that you want to leave behind?
00:27:57
Deanna Becket
Oh, the word shine, you know, joy and peace. Just I try. I think I wrote an epitaph for myself just to just in case or, you know, in the future. And it had something about, you know, shine and glitter and, you know, sparkle.
00:28:14
Deanna Becket
And because if we're not the light, we're we're down in the trenches and it's it's not fun down there. And it's just time to rise and give God the glory.
00:28:25
Ken Freire
Yeah. Praise God. Well, Deanna, thank you so much for being on the podcast. really appreciate what you're doing. For those who are interested in wanting to either get to know you more or work with you, what's the best way to get in contact with you?
