Addressing Widespread Fatigue
00:01:14
Speaker
So I want to ask you a question. Have you ever noticed how tired everyone seems? I would say lately, but I feel like it's been just something that I've noticed since I started doing this work. And it's not just that physical tired or fatigue. It's mentally foggy and emotionally flat and spiritually dry. It's this kind of tired that sleep doesn't fix. It's that kind of tired that coffee only masks. And don't get me started on caffeine um and sugar and people's artificial ways of getting their energy boosts that are actually causing, um,
00:01:55
Speaker
more chronic fatigue. But nonetheless, we'll get into that a little bit later. um What's so interesting about this topic is that many people are doing the right things, or at least some of them, right? They're trying to get more sleep, um pushing themselves to exercise or at least get some movement. um People are showing up and trying to do their best, yet they're absolutely
The Importance of Life Alignment
00:02:17
Speaker
exhausted. ah so i want to dive into this topic of energy and what it really is, why so many of us are depleted, and what's actually quietly draining us in ways we don't always recognize. Because energy is not just about how much you sleep or how much caffeine you consume. It's it's literally about how aligned your life is across every dimension.
00:02:41
Speaker
And I'm going to share um a little bit about a personal story because, um you know, Align Living has been something that has been a part of my life and practice for as long as I could remember. Right. I have my spiritual formation disciplines. I eat clean. I pretty much avoid, for the most part, refined sugars and processed foods. um You know, I move my body, I breathe, i sleep eight hours, like drink lots of water, doing all the things. Yet I was finding myself fatigued. And so um I think you're going to find this interesting. um At least it's a good practice to be aware of all the things that could influence your energy levels so that you can maybe through process of elimination. or trial and error, figure out what can help you have abundant energy. Because let me tell you, nobody likes being tired. i hate it. If there's a day here and there where I feel really fatigued,
00:03:38
Speaker
That is like the worst. um And um I went through a season where I was just really stressed and emotionally there was just a lot of like ups and downs and all over the place. And even with a high level of emotional intelligence, let's say even if you're very mindful of how you um respond to emotions, even experiencing them alone um can cause
Cultural Narratives on Fatigue
00:04:05
Speaker
fatigue. Or if you have a lot in your mind, like a lot of mental clutter, just a lot going on, your brain consumes a lot of energy so that can cause fatigue. So there's just a lot of things that might be playing a role in why you feel tired because we shouldn't feel tired. Our our human body was created in a way that if we do the right things, if we're getting enough sleep, drinking enough water, eating decent enough, we should not be fatigued. We should have truly abundant energy.
00:04:30
Speaker
I remember back in the day when I did a lot more um one on one health coaching, it was just wild to to listen to people's stories of um how much energy they had after they got done doing like a 30 day reset with me because um people get so used to just feeling tired all the time and thinking it's normal. So I would say almost any topic that I've ever talked about, there's an underlying narrative that does not serve us generally, I would say, in the in the culture and society. there's an underlying narrative. And I think one of them is that, you know, fatigue is okay. And living with chronic um ah tiredness is just a normal thing. And it's not. That's a narrative we want to
Defining Energy Beyond Physicality
00:05:10
Speaker
change. You should be living with abundant energy. And I think sometimes people just don't always know how to get there.
00:05:15
Speaker
or Or one, like I've talked about over and over, um self-awareness and honesty is a you know, that's a non-starter. Like you have to, if you're lying to yourself, if you're avoiding, um, the truth, it's going to be really hard to get anywhere because you have to acknowledge, you know,
00:05:31
Speaker
um you know, for example, let's say someone says, well, I just don't have time to sleep. Well, okay, that's not true. That's not um good self-awareness. It's actually, it's just about priorities, right? And choices and whatnot. So at the end of the day, again, I'm passionate about this because I hate being tired, but also as I connect with people um with just great potential and passion and desires to show up well in this world, but those folks are simultaneously not feeling like themselves or feeling like they need naps or, not thinking clearly, you're just worn out. um i would say even emotionally short with those they care about is pretty common. um Feeling like their choices and decision making is failing them. Like the self-sabotage, like how many times are self-sabotage or like poor choices attached to fatigue as well? um Your decision making is going to be um
00:06:22
Speaker
less wise if you're in chronic fatigue. So if if these things, if you find these things failing you, um you might just be really depleted in the different spaces I talk about in online living. It could be confusing if you're getting sleep and still tired, right? But there is a reason and I'm here to help. So I want to talk through this.
Chronic Fatigue as a Societal Issue
00:06:41
Speaker
So I want to start out by just talking about this energy crisis that we're living in.
00:06:47
Speaker
So we truly are living in a time of chronic fatigue. And I'm not going to dive into all the societal reasons, um you know, that I think that this is happening.
00:06:57
Speaker
But really what chronic fatigue is, is it's not occasional tiredness. It's not, oh, I had a long day. It's this low-grade ongoing depletion that many people have come to accept as normal. And I could even see it in people's eyes sometimes, right? Like, you know, and there's a difference between having abundant, healthy energy versus having a wired, stimulated energy, right? Like if you're consuming sugar and caffeine and dopamine highs and all of these things, they could be giving you a false sense of healthy energy, right? We're not talking about that type of energy we're talking about healthy sustained clear clarity of mind energy right so i would um ah statistically they would say about nearly one in three adults report feeling tired most days of the week i would argue that is more than that to be honest
00:07:53
Speaker
um Almost half of those say poor insufficient sleep does affect their daily lives. um Chronic fatigue is also li ah linked to a variety of diseases like increase of heart disease, depression, obesity, reduced productivity, of course, and just lower quality of life. Right. So this isn't something just to brush aside.
00:08:14
Speaker
um But here's what what I want to say to you clearly. This lack of um energy, it's not a personal failure, right?
Rhythms Over Habits for Energy
00:08:23
Speaker
Like too many of us live with um I'm not enough and all of these like on the outside, you might seem wildly confident. and then on the inside, you just feel like you're failing. Like this is not a personal failure. It's also not a motivation problem. Like I've done an episode, I believe, at least I know for sure. I've talked about it in the line living community in my course. that motivation often comes after action and action often comes from energy. And so it's just knowing what are the things that I could do to have healthier energy and that can help your motivation problem. Right.
00:08:58
Speaker
um And this is also not about needing more willpower either. um So many of the things that I talk about is just establishing rhythms that support aligned living. um So this is more about living in a world and often just in rhythms. You all know I love that word rhythms um much more than balance or habits or anything like that, like rhythms of life. And so it's about living in this world that quietly drains energy faster than we restore it.
00:09:27
Speaker
All right. So though that does come down to choice. So there is, um by saying it's not a personal failure or motivation problem, I'm not saying that um you don't have a responsibility in this because you do, but it more so has to do with understanding what choices to make. So um I want to start out by redefining energy because we we tend to think of energy as purely physical, but energy is actually your total capacity to show up in every way.
00:09:58
Speaker
Right. Like energy is mental clarity. Energy is emotional regulation. Energy is spiritual vitality. Energy is relational presence. Think about that one. Right. We all want to have healthy, fulfilling relationships in our lives. um But you can be physically rested and still emotionally depleted or you can be eating well and still mentally exhausted or you could be spiritually hungry.
00:10:20
Speaker
and not have the energy to pursue stillness. Ironically, right? But it's true. um There is a restlessness that can sometimes come with fatigue as well. So this
Aligning Life Domains for Energy
00:10:31
Speaker
is why in Aligned Living, we talk about energy across all six integrated domains. This is essential. Like I've preached this over and over that Aligned Living, all these domains are integrated. We cannot focus on one while neglecting the other. And again, these are spiritual, physical, mental, emotional, social, and economic well-being. Okay, so when one area is strained, it pulls energy from the others. Now think about that because I've talked about before that, for example, if you want physical and spiritual wellness, you need to consider both and have goals in both areas because they're connected, right?
00:11:10
Speaker
But um also think of it as if one area strain is strained, it's literally going to be pulling energy from the other areas and causing fatigue. So, um for example, one of the most underestimated drains on our energy today is mental clutter. People don't just have one thing going on. They wear 8,000 hats and I'm one of them. I say, I'm always wearing seven hats. That's why I'm very intentional about how I organize my life to try to avoid that mental drain.
00:11:38
Speaker
So talking about mental clutter for a second. Now, mind you, I am not dismissing the importance of sleep. Seven to nine hours of sleep a night is essential. I'm not just talking about disrupted sleep where you're picking up your phone every few hours. Like that is not healthy.
00:11:54
Speaker
restorative sleep. I'm talking about seven to nine hours of healthy restorative sleep. And I could talk about circadian rhythms and um the importance of you know, allowing our bodies healthy like hormone and chemical reactions to take place when they're supposed to and all of that to help with sleep and alertness in the morning. um You know, hydration, even a small percentage of dehydration in our lives causes fatigue. being malnourished, like not having enough of the nutrients that you need. All these things can cause fatigue. I'm not, sedentary lifestyle causes fatigue, right? So I'm not um dismissing those. I'm just helping us look at all the things that could be impacting your energy. So
00:12:34
Speaker
Mental clutter. It's this invisible energy drain that we don't think about. It's everything we're carrying in our minds that was never meant to live there. That's what happens when we have unfinished tasks, when we have unmade decisions or worry loops. Tell me about that. Like, I'm sure some of you...
00:12:51
Speaker
have significant worry loops
Mental Clutter and Energy Drain
00:12:53
Speaker
that just don't turn off. Replaying conversations in your head, overthinking. um What about constant notifications? Like, you know, the ones that aren't urgent, try silencing them on their phone and just checking once a day, right? Constant notifications, a mental clutter is an energy drain. The pressure to remember everything.
00:13:13
Speaker
Like something I'm certain I'm going to remember, I still write it down because then I could release it in my mind. You know, otherwise, you'll be holding on to so many things that are draining your energy. it's is Think of it like this.
00:13:28
Speaker
It's like having dozens of browser tabs open in your brain. Like they're all open at the same time. And you might not be actively looking at all of them, but they are slowing everything down.
00:13:39
Speaker
And here's what most people don't realize is that your brain uses about 20% of your body's total daily energy. Like that's significant considering the size of our body and the trillions of reactions that are happening in our body that all need energy if your brain...
00:13:54
Speaker
is using 20% of your body's daily energy. That's significant. So when your mind is constantly overthinking, anticipating, processing without rest, right? Because we have to use our minds, but we also need to find spaces to rest.
00:14:13
Speaker
That fatigue is very real. if you If your mind is constantly in that overthinking stage or overworking stage.
Impact of Stress on Energy
00:14:21
Speaker
And so that's why i did a whole session in my Align Living community on how to declutter mentally and just some tools around that because it's a real thing.
00:14:33
Speaker
So what's happening in the body when energy drops? Like some of you intellectually like to understand the why, you know, they're like, oh, well, people just say that, you know dehydration causes fatigue, but does it really? Like what's happening in your body when energy drops? So Speaking specifically to mental clutter, because all these are unique um topics, right? So when mental clutter builds, your nervous system stays in a low-grade stress response. Now, I know all about this. This is very real. Like, you can feel good, um but if you have enough...
00:15:13
Speaker
chronic stress in your life where your nervous system is staying in this low-grade stress response it is like draining it's like um you know when you get out of your car and you accidentally leave a light on and um that that light even though it's not a lot is draining your your car battery so when you get in the next morning to turn it on the batteries like drain just from that small low-grade energy draw um So your thinking brain, the part that's responsible for focus and decision making, it gets overworked.
00:15:48
Speaker
And as it tires, your emotional brain becomes more reactive. and That's why this isn't just like, I'll learn to live with fatigue. This will impact every relationship and every part of your life. OK, because your emotional brain, when it's reactive, is going to hurt you or somebody else.
00:16:06
Speaker
stress hormones like cortisol remain elevated in this state, which we all know like constant elevated cortisol is not good for your health. And then your body stays alert instead of restorative. So um our bodies were were meant to do things to be active, but When we are doing um proper practices, we will enter into restorative modes.
00:16:32
Speaker
You know, let's say mindfulness or pause or silence your prayer, right? Helps your brain restore. When you go into a deep sleep at night, it helps your body restore your
Technology and Circadian Rhythms
00:16:40
Speaker
digestive system. That's where you're supposed to go 12 hours overnight without eating, allowing your digestive system to rest and restore and also divert energy away from your digestive system so it can go to the rest of your body and help your rest of your body heal and restore, right? all these things, these healthy habits you've been told to do are for a reason, right? So this affects everything.
00:17:00
Speaker
when you're in this like low grade stress response, when you're, there's too much mental clutter, your breathing can become shallow, your muscles stay tense, your digestive digestion slows, sleep becomes lighter, therefore less restorative emotions feel closer to the surface. um And aka I would say that also means your prefrontal cortex, your, you know,
00:17:25
Speaker
decision-making, discerning part of your brain isn't as activated, right? Your body does not know the difference between a real threat and an unresolved mental load. So we can end up responding physically and emotionally to this mental load like we would a real threat in real life. And so it's really important to be aware of this.
00:17:49
Speaker
And again, the narrative that, you know, we're just all so busy with so much going on. We justify this low grade stress response, this constant stress response in all this mental clutter. And we wonder why we're so tired. And then also why other areas of our lives are being impacted without even knowing that's the reason why.
00:18:10
Speaker
So this could also be why sometimes rest doesn't feel restorative. Like you get a really good night's sleep, you wake up, you're still tired. Like what other things are unnecessarily pulling on your energy. So um keep that in mind, mental clutter as a tool. Now, when it comes to chronic fatigue, I have to mention sleep and circadian rhythms because this is the foundation of energy and our bodies were created in such a significant way. So, you know, when the sun goes down and it's time to get ready for sleep, actually, when the lights start to dim, um we get a boost of melatonin, which helps us sleep while it's going to a deep sleep. But the problem
00:18:48
Speaker
With ah technology and all of that and people's just addiction to dopamine fixes and all of that is that we um yeah are constantly like checking our phones even right before bed or binging Netflix or all this blue light in our eyes that's keeping our body's chemical response.
00:19:07
Speaker
from moving into a state of preparing for rest. OK. And so it keeps this stimulation like it's daytime. And so it
Nutrition's Role in Energy
00:19:17
Speaker
makes it hard to fall into a deeper, more restful sleep. um So so what I'm trying to say here is sleep is not just about quantity.
00:19:25
Speaker
It's about rhythms. And so just like when we have small children and we're trying to get them, they always say, if you want your kids to sleep better, have a routine before bed. Actually, these types of routines help adults as well, like a semi-consistent sleep time and wake time, even a routine before bed, limiting blue light exposure.
00:19:44
Speaker
This circadian rhythm that your body runs on is a 24-hour internal clock, and it's designed to regulate our sleep and our hormones and our digestion and our temperature and our energy. Like, it's significant, but we just are like, nah, whatever. Like if I want to stay up, you know, every other day till two zero in the morning, so be it or whatever. But then we wonder why our health suffers, our blood pressure's high, we're chronically fatigued, we're, you know, um emotionally taxed.
00:20:12
Speaker
So when this rhythm's disrupted, your energy will suffer. There's no way around it. Some of the biggest disruptors today when it comes to sleep is just, again, those irregular sleep and wake times. It's very significant.
00:20:28
Speaker
Blue light exposure at night. stress and racing thoughts. That's why, you know, journaling before bed, praying before bed, can calm those thoughts, bring you to a centered place, really helpful. Caffeine too late in the day, again, something you shouldn't do. Overstimulation without recovery as well, okay?
00:20:48
Speaker
And so all of these things can disrupt your sleep cycle and how restorative it is. So let's say even if you're in bed for eight hours and your rhythm is off, sleep becomes lighter and less restorative. So it's something to be mindful of.
00:21:04
Speaker
and And I've had people tell me this before, too. They're like, I got plenty of sleep. i don't know why I'm still tired. Like, I'm telling you why. Right. Sleep is when your brain clears waste, consolidates memory, balances hormones and resets the nervous system without consistent rhythms. Energy never fully replenishes. We know.
00:21:27
Speaker
um intellectually, that we have trillions of of ah cells and chemicals and all these like ah transactions taking place in our bodies to make them function, but we don't think about when or how that actually happens. If sleep is when a lot of these things happen and we're not getting restorative sleep, again, more energy drain.
00:21:50
Speaker
All right. So I have to hit on hydration and nutrition because these are heavily overlooked energy drivers. Like, oh, whatever. Like how many, let's count back at your last 10 meals and ask yourself how many of them contained whole foods that were nutrient dense and how many of them contain just a large portion of processed foods. Processed foods cause fatigue, And they add toxins to your body and they make your body work harder. You know, your organs having to detox and all of that versus when you have whole foods, nutrient dense meals that are contributing to greater energy. Again, hydration, same thing. Think about the last 10 days. how much water have you taken in? Hydration is one of the most underestimated contributors to energy.
00:22:37
Speaker
And this is something that people roll their eyes at. But if you only knew how significant hydration was for everything, you know, if your brain is made up of so much water and somebody says, oh, your brain fog could be caused from dehydration and you roll your eyes at it. It's true, though.
00:22:54
Speaker
um Even mild dehydration, just one or two percent can cause fatigue. and headaches and brain fog and reduced focus, all things people hate dealing with. Many people are walking around slightly dehydrated all day and wonder why they feel drained. Okay. Nutrition matters too. And it's again, it's not just what you eat, by but how consistently you fuel your body.
00:23:20
Speaker
All right. And so if um you're going long chunks of time without eating, I'm not talking about your overnight fast. I'm talking about just throughout the day. That is going to be an energy drain. Food is fuel.
00:23:32
Speaker
Highly processed foods and refined sugars, they spike your blood sugar and then crash it. And that crash feels like fatigue, but it also feels like irritability and brain fog. OK, you can't put toxins in your body and expect no impact. OK, balanced meals, on the other hand, help stabilize energy instead of borrowing it. All right. That's a huge difference there.
00:23:58
Speaker
You literally cannot expect steady energy if your body is constantly compensating because you're eating fast food instead of home cooked meal, for example. And so this is really, really important
Emotional Processing for Energy
00:24:11
Speaker
to consider. So right now we've talked about, having, ah decreasing mental clutter. And again, in my Align Living community, I go into deeper, more practical steps for all of these things and there's coaching and support, but just, I wanted to give you just a solid overview in one episode. Um,
00:24:28
Speaker
you're decreasing your mental clutter, your sleep and circadian rhythms, hydration and nutrition. Now let's talk about emotional energy. What we carry costs us.
00:24:41
Speaker
It truly does. Emotional energy is real energy. We're talking about unprocessed emotions, not just people that um experience a lot of emotions and then express them. It's people who experience emotions and then suppress them as well. Unprocessed emotions, whether that's grief or anger or fear or resentment, keep the body in a stress response. They take up space and attention and energy. And now those of you who are open about your emotional experience, you're like, okay, yes, I need to find like a healthier, um
00:25:16
Speaker
um I need to take care of my... uh emotional well-being better but there's some of you out there are going to say oh i'm just not that emotional which is not true because everything that we experience inputs through the emotional part of our brain first everything we're experiencing emotions is just you're not responding to them in the same way you're suppressing them you're not processing them this is also an energy drain it costs you So um emotions like gratitude and joy and awe and connection are energy multipliers. OK, so if you have, again, grief, anger, fear, resentment, and you're burying it or you're letting it be loud in an unhealthy way, either or it'll keep your body in a stress response, strain your energy. But good, positive emotions, gratitude, again, joy, connection, multiply energy.
00:26:13
Speaker
They will calm your nervous system and increase resilience. A calm nervous system is less of a drain on the body. What we don't process emotionally, we pray we pray for, yes, pray for us. We pay for energetically, okay? So it is really important to keep that in mind. This is why journaling, I know a lot of people don't like it. Some people love it, some people hate it, but journaling, you're processing your emotions. It will save you some energy.
00:26:43
Speaker
prayer, therapy, and truly honest reflection. Those things are not luxuries. They're energy practices. They help. But we're in such a busy, busy, go, go, go society. How often do we give ourselves time to pause, to pray, or pause for honest reflection, to slow down?
00:27:03
Speaker
um These all help with your energy because they're helping you with emotional wellness. So this cycle of chronic fatigue, um this is the cycle I find people stuck in.
00:27:14
Speaker
fatigue leads to poor choices it just does think back to the last time you know you made a poor choice were you tired probably um or if you didn't even feel like maybe you're like i didn't feel exhausted in that moment maybe chronic fatigue played a role in your um reactions though because your nervous system is in like a that low grade stress response but fatigue leads to poor choices poor choices deepen fatigue right think about it if you you know, make a poor choice relationally, you get stressed, you go and make another poor choice to consume something you shouldn't be consuming that will cause more fatigue. And then fatigue narrows capacity, right? And then capacity Loss increases stress. It's a full cycle. And that cycle will continue and continue until we literally just don't like how we feel.
Restoring Life Alignment to End Fatigue
00:28:05
Speaker
Breaking that cycle starts not with doing more, but with restoring alignment. Because it might even feel stressful to think, oh, well, then I got to do more. I got to get a water bottle. got to drink more water. And I'm find time to cook this and that and all that. I'm saying if you restore alignment and start giving space to doing the right things, your capacity will increase, your energy will increase. So just to close in reflection here, and mind you, i might sound a little serious. i actually love laughing and joking stuff. This is why i also do some entertainment work on the side because it just is fun. It is fun to make people laugh and have fun. And that's part of wellness too, is social wellbeing and you know, having those positive emotions. But as Coach Autumn, with this Coach Autumn hat on, I just feel like part of my calling is to be truthful with people, to help them understand you don't have to live this way. You don't have to feel chronically stressed and emotionally drained and like chronically fatigued like you don't have to feel that way it is very practical ways um of living that will help you be aligned and move into just a better state okay so if you're tired I want to you to hear this super super clearly you're not lazy
00:29:25
Speaker
You're not weak. You're not failing. You're likely overloaded and just in need of some alignment, OK? Energy isn't restored by pushing harder. It's restored by living in alignment across your whole life.
00:29:43
Speaker
So when your rhythms support your body, when your mind has space to rest, when your emotions are processed, When your spirit is nourished, energy returns.
00:29:59
Speaker
Clarity creates capacity. Alignment restores energy and a different way of living is possible. Again, it's that narrative that this is just the way it is. No, it's not. So I'm really excited for y'all to take a hold of this.
00:30:17
Speaker
Again, the self-awareness be like, okay, let me implement a small change in each of these areas that will improve my sleep, that will decrease mental clutter, help with emotional processing, help with my nutrition and hydration, and let's see what happens.
00:30:32
Speaker
So to wrap up, if as you're listening, you're realizing that your energy feels low, not because you're failing, but because you're carrying too much, know that you don't have to navigate this alone.
00:30:46
Speaker
So inside my Aligned Living community, that's my membership platform. I
Community Support for Energy Restoration
00:30:51
Speaker
made it wildly affordable because I want anyone and everyone to access to it, despite repeated recommendations to do more one-on-one coaching, which is higher price ticket items.
00:31:03
Speaker
I felt deeply that God was calling me to offer an opportunity at a very low cost so I can give anybody and everybody coaching and support and community and just all the why's and the what's to living um healthier, you know, in that pursuit of well-being, in the pursuit of wholeness. So inside my Align Living community, we go deeper into what this looks like to restore energy across your whole life, spiritually, mentally, emotionally, physically, relationally, and even financially.
00:31:36
Speaker
It's a space for people who want practical tools, supportive rhythms, and faith-integrated guidance to help them move from depletion to alignment.
00:31:48
Speaker
There's a ton of courses up there already, or one course. There's a ton of lessons up there already that cover all kinds of topics, whether you want recipes or needs mental health support, um ah spiritual formation is all there.
00:32:03

And that's exactly what the Align Living Space was created for. And let's say today you decide to start implementing some changes.
