Nicole Shine: Uh, yeah, we said we'd be back. who do We know we haven't done a movie in a while, but forgive us. We, uh, Had some stuff going on. It's actually our anniversary weekend.
Nicole Shine: So we are, you know, yeah, taking a break from, from our, you know, loving weekend to come share our love with you guys.
Conor: Yep. Three years, baby. We did it. Woo.
Nicole Shine: Ew. But,
Conor: Not creepy at all.
Nicole Shine: this a week we are doing Spider-Man 2002. we figured it's,
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: yeah we figure You know, we only do old movies, so we're not going to be doing any of the new ones anytime soon. But, um you know, our thing is we don't do movies under 10 years old.
Nicole Shine: So, we're doing this banger.
Conor: Yep.
Nicole Shine: 2002.
Conor: Yep. Since the new one just got released. Yep.
Nicole Shine: Yeah, paper? Hold on. There it is. but no
Conor: Okay.
Nicole Shine: there it is All right. Spider-Man 2002. Director, San Raimi of Evil Dead fame, which is a very weird choice for this movie.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: Yeah. But anyway.
Conor: True.
Nicole Shine: Starring Tobey Maguire, Willem Dafoe, Kristen Dunst, James Franco, Cliff Robertson, Rosemary Harris, with a cameo by the GOAT, Macho Man Randy Savage.
Conor: That's right.
Nicole Shine: There's some other ones, but, you know, Macho Man.
Conor: I mean, Macho Man.
Nicole Shine: The budget was $139 million. It made $826.8 million.
Conor: Goddamn.
Nicole Shine: yeah At the time, it was the highest grossing superhero movie of all time.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: At the time. Of course, we know it's not now, but...
Conor: Yeah. That was a pretty good return, I'd say.
Nicole Shine: Yeah,
Nicole Shine: yeah yeah, definitely. All right. Let's get into it.
Conor: Let's do it.
Nicole Shine: So, we open with our narration from our main character, Peter Parker.
Conor: Mm-hmm.
Nicole Shine: who is chasing down his bus, his school bus, which is we find out is like a normal event for him. The bus driver's a dick for no reason.
Nicole Shine: Like, there's a lot of people in this movie who are just a dick for no reason. I feel like a lot of the things that happen in this movie wouldn't happen if people, maybe it's a New York thing, but like, maybe they're trying to say, oh, New Yorkers, ugh.
Conor: No, I agree.
Conor: Yeah. I mean, i feel like this sounds horrible, but I feel like a lot of people were dicks and a lot of the stuff that they got done to them was kind of deserving a bit.
Nicole Shine: Yeah, and even though it's supposed to be, like, a Queens neighborhood, like, I feel like it's it's New York and not New York at the same time.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: Like, it's, like, the most clean I've ever seen New York. No shade in New York, but come on. um So... That day, um where we're going is they're going on a field trip to Columbia.
Nicole Shine: um He is um Peter's love interest, or the girl he has a crush on who lives next door, is Mary Jane, played by Kristen Dunst.
Nicole Shine: She has a boyfriend, Flash, like who's like what a bully. Him and his friends bully Peter.
Conor: Jack bully. Yeah. Typical.
Nicole Shine: Yeah, and then we see his best friend Harry, who's James Franco, get dropped off by his dad, who is Harry Osborn, Willem Dafoe. um They're super rich, but he goes to regular school because he got supposedly kicked out or flunked out of all the fancy schools that harry not harry Norman tried to send him to.
Conor: Norman, yeah.
Nicole Shine: and like we get the sense that he is not he's like disappointed in him because he's not like smart or you know you know the basic and he also gets bullied for being rich which doesn't really make a lot remember he's like yeah careful his dad will fire you or dad like
Conor: Yeah, not like his dad. Yeah, yep.
Conor: Really? Yeah, I know.
Conor: I would have owned it.
Nicole Shine: yeah
Conor: I would have been like, yeah. And he'll kick you out the trailer you're living in. Yep, that's what he'll do.
Nicole Shine: like these bullies are just like oh So, yeah, we feel bad for super rich, super handsome James Franco. Yeah.
Conor: yes
Nicole Shine: But, um, but daddy doesn't love So, yeah. So, anyway, they're going on this field trip to Columbia University to see science stuff.
Conor: Science. It's a typical science field trip.
Nicole Shine: Random... Yeah, like random science stuff or whatever.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: And, um...
Conor: Guess what they're looking at.
Nicole Shine: Yeah, there's a bunch of experiments. And then they're doing a bunch of experiments on spiders. And, experimenting on the different... ah Spiders are already terrifying enough.
Nicole Shine: They do not need to be enhanced in any way.
Conor: Spliced and shit.
Nicole Shine: So, um... so um While they're in, Peter works for the school paper, so he's taking pictures of everything. And um while the lady's telling him about, like, all the, you know, super enhanced spiders, she's like, yeah, they're 14 or however many, 15 they're supposed to be.
Conor: fifteen yeah
Nicole Shine: And Mary Jane's like, oh, there's only 14. And the lady's like, well, maybe the scientists are working with one of them. Like, maybe. I told Connor, I said, this when I would have ran out of here screaming.
Conor: I know you've been like, maybe.
Nicole Shine: I'm terrified of spiders.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: That would have been the end of the movie. Because I would have ran out of there and been like, oh god, I gotta go home and burn my clothes. Might have gotten my clothes. Y'all not keeping track of these things?
Nicole Shine: hu
Conor: Right.
Nicole Shine: But it's we they shoot up, pan up, and it's like in the ceiling on the web. Somehow it got out. Nobody noticed. But...
Conor: Nope. Not at all.
Nicole Shine: So, Peter, you know, crushed on Mary Jane. He asked if he could take her picture for the paper. and she's like, okay. So, and like as he's like, she's like posing for the picture. You see the spider just going down, down, down.
Nicole Shine: And it lands on him and he doesn't notice. He takes her picture and she gets called off. And the spider just fucking bites him for no reason. Because spiders are dicks. And it like it bites him and he like and it like scurries away.
Nicole Shine: And I told Connor, I was like, maybe how do we know he's not the only person that a bit going around biting people for no reason?
Conor: Fright. It could be like a bunch of other spider teens.
Nicole Shine: Yeah, that's maybe why we got the Spider-Verse because it was going around biting everybody.
Conor: That might be. Yeah.
Nicole Shine: Insane spider.
Conor: Seriously.
Nicole Shine: But, um, so we just cut to Peter, um, going home. Oh, in the meantime, in between, so Norman goes to work and, um, he's walking the military guys, you know, around showing them what they're working on and they're working on kind of like super serum and a glider.
Nicole Shine: And he's totally bored. He's like, I've seen the glider already. And so the other scientist guy is like, he's telling about the super serum and he's like, Well, what are the effects and its strength and super strength and all this stuff?
Nicole Shine: But so one scientist is is like, it needs to be scrapped because it's causing like in the, it's not ready for human trials. And then the mice we use it on is causing like insanity.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: And so he's like, i I suggest we like scrap it and go all the way back to step one or whatever. And like, you can tell the military guy like hates Norman.
Nicole Shine: We never find out why he hates Norman.
Conor: Oh yeah.
Nicole Shine: He just does.
Conor: Right. Yeah.
Nicole Shine: For no reason. And as again, like so much of this stuff in this movie would not have taken place if people just not randomly hated Norman.
Conor: Yeah. Well, I wonder if like, that's, I, again, i haven't really like read a lot of the back, like, catalog of Spider-Man stuff. So maybe that's like Easter egg stuff that only people, you know,
Nicole Shine: Yeah, I'm like, was he banging all their wives or something?
Conor: ah
Nicole Shine: Like, they just hated Norman.
Conor: I don't know. i don't know.
Nicole Shine: ah But, um yeah, so he's so he's like, oh if you're not ready within a week, we're going cancel the contract and not give you any funding. So he's all panicking.
Conor: Give it to someone else.
Nicole Shine: Yeah.
Conor: Yeah. Competing. Yep.
Nicole Shine: So, back to Peter, he gets home, and we meet um Aunt May and Uncle Ben, and he's kind of, like, all sick or whatever, and, like, they're trying talk him, he's like, I gotta go lay down, so he goes in his room and just kind of like, passes out on the floor, he's all sick, and, like, got a big-ass nasty bubble where spider bit him, and
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: i was like, again, would have been like, i need to go to the hospital.
Conor: I know.
Nicole Shine: Because I got bitten by a fucking crazy ass spider.
Conor: like I'm not going to just sleep it off
Nicole Shine: But no, he just passed on the floor.
Conor: It's fine.
Nicole Shine: and so later at night, Norman's like freaking out. So he's like, I'm just going to try it on myself.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: So because he has to show like a successful human child to get the money.
Conor: Yep.
Nicole Shine: And the scientist guy is like, you shouldn't do this or whatever. He's like, no. So he goes and puts himself in like the little chamber thing and gives himself the serum.
Nicole Shine: And um he starts like convulsing and freaking out or whatever. And the guy goes short goes in and tries to save him.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: And like he immediately wakes up and is crazy.
Conor: crazy.
Nicole Shine: He like grabs the guy by the neck and is like back to square one, formula, whatever.
Conor: Formula. Yeah.
Nicole Shine: And like grabs him by the neck and he just cuts away.
Conor: Launches
Nicole Shine: And the next morning, Pete wakes up, and he doesn't need his glasses, and he has abs, and he's like, what? You know?
Conor: them. All right.
Nicole Shine: Yeah, like, yeah. So, um he's like creepily walking behind MJ, and but she gets a ride.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: And he kind of gets distracted. And, like, he's chasing after the bus again. and he, like, goes to, like, grab the side of the bus into, like, the paper, like, sticking to his hand. And he's like, hmm, that's weird.
Nicole Shine: But he doesn't think anything of it. Like, he just goes to school. And then we see Norman wake up. And he kind of, like, doesn't remember what happened. Like, he's kind of getting, like, flashes of what happened.
Nicole Shine: But he doesn't really, like.
Conor: yeah
Nicole Shine: know what happened and then the people from his house court busing and like doctor um whatever the guy yeah did not his name wasn't important but they're like somebody he's dead somebody murdered him and then somebody stole the glider and he's like more upset over the glider he's like the glider like i guess fuck doctor whatever his name was and when he was murdered wasn't a big deal or whatever so
Conor: so Such and such.
Conor: I know. Yeah.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: um at school, um, like, they're in the cafeteria, and, like, MJ, like, his he, he has a spidey sense now, where he can, like, sense when danger's coming, so she's about to, like, slip on this puddle, and he, like, this famous scene where he, like, catches her, and, like, catches all the food on the tray, and it's cool, she's like, thanks,
Conor: And she notices him while his glasses and...
Nicole Shine: Yeah, she's like, your eyes are blue. Like, you can tell that people have blue eyes with glasses. um But, um, and then, like, his web accidentally shoots out.
Nicole Shine: And it, like, sticks to a tray. He's trying to like, pull it to get it loose. And it won't come loose. And it, like, flings the food. And, of course, it hits the bully flash.
Conor: yeah
Nicole Shine: And he's like, Parker. He, like, runs out of the... thing And the guy follows him.
Conor: about
Nicole Shine: Like, he was asking for it. Because he follows him.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: and then, like, he, of course, he can sense it coming. Because it's fighting sense. So the guy, like, tries to punch him. And he ducks out of the way. And he's being evasive. Like, the guy's trying to fight him.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: And he's, like, moving out of the way. Like, I don't want to fight He's you got it ready? don't fight me. And, like, eventually, like, he just grabs him. Breaks his fucking... Looks like he breaks his hand.
Conor: ah you kind of Yeah.
Nicole Shine: or and like pushes him back. And the, yeah.
Conor: Punches the fuck out of him back.
Nicole Shine: And, um and like, cause at first MJ's like, help him Harry. He's like, help who? Like he's doing fine by himself.
Conor: I know, right? He seems good.
Nicole Shine: And, um and then like he pushes the guy flashback and then um his friends like, you really are freak Parker. And then he runs out and it's like, like he was trying to beat me up.
Conor: I'm gonna go check on my boyfriend.
Nicole Shine: Why am I a freak for defending myself?
Conor: Right? Yeah. Yeah.
Nicole Shine: It's so dumb. So he gets all, like, whatever, and weirded out, runs out, and runs into an alley. And then he notices, like, the little, like, hair. It's so gross.
Nicole Shine: The little, like, hair things on his fingertips.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: And he, like, starts climbing up the side of the building. He starts noticing he can do that. And he's, like, jumping, like, ooh, from building to building. And then, yeah, and then he, like, tries to shoot the web out.
Conor: He's feeling himself.
Nicole Shine: And that part was funny.
Conor: That was great.
Nicole Shine: was like, go, web, go.
Conor: When he's trying to figure out like how it comes out, he's like, fly.
Nicole Shine: go webb
Nicole Shine: fly go webb and then if um it finally like shoots out when he does it right and then he like swings from one building to another crashes into the building he's just having fun like i mean as as we all would if we could do that stuff
Conor: Go up, go. Up, up, and away. Yeah. Yeah.
Conor: Yeah, like he's learning to control these new things and yeah.
Nicole Shine: Yeah, so later on, because before he left for school, he was supposed to help Uncle Ben paint the kitchen. And he gets home all late, because I guess he was like swinging all day or whatever.
Conor: Yeah.
Conor: ah He's discovering all his powers and shit.
Nicole Shine: And um ah so he Uncle Ben just kind of leaves a note like, there are foods in the refrigerator, Michelangelo.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: And ah he kind of feels bad, but not really, because he's
Conor: Not really.
Nicole Shine: He's going through a selfish phase right now. And he goes off outside and you hear Mary Jane, like her dad's always yelling at her. She's going to be like a slut, like her mom, I guess.
Conor: Jesus.
Nicole Shine: But that's what he's saying.
Conor: I mean, yeah.
Nicole Shine: We never see her mom, but that's what he always saying.
Conor: No.
Nicole Shine: Like, oh, you just like her. and y all lift up
Conor: Yeah, she come from broken home and all that shit. Yeah.
Nicole Shine: So she goes out and she's all upset and she ends up having a conversation with Peter and it's really nice and supportive and whatever, it's not important.
Nicole Shine: They have a moment, whatever. And then like Flash rolls up is like, come take a ride in my new birthday present.
Conor: Look what my dad gave me.
Nicole Shine: So she's like, she gets in, rides off and Peter's like, hmm, I need a car.
Conor: Yeah. To get the girl.
Nicole Shine: so So, like, he starts looking through the ads, and the cheapest one he sees is, like, $3,000. And then right under it is, like, um wrestler, amateur wrestlers paying $3,000.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: So he's, like, okay, cool. So he makes this, like, really cheap like cheap wrestling costumes.
Conor: Like a red sweatshirt with black spray painted spider.
Nicole Shine: It's the Spider-Man colors, but it's like sweatpants and like a sweatshirt with like just the mask.
Conor: Yeah.
Conor: Yep. Beanie with eyes cut out and shit.
Nicole Shine: Yeah. And he he's going to go do do that. And then um when he's leaving to go, Uncle Ben's like, I need to talk to you because they're worried about him because he's getting, it what they think getting into fights, even though he was just defending himself and like um not,
Nicole Shine: doing his chores and not talking to them and all this stuff.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: So he's like, I'm going to give you a ride. And he's like, I'll take the subway. He's like, no, I'll give you a ride. And we were both like, Uncle Ben should just let him take the subway.
Conor: Yeah, he really should just let him, you know.
Nicole Shine: So he gives him a ride. And he's trying to talk to him, figure out what's going on. And Peter's being like a teenager, like, mm.
Conor: Yeah, being a real dick.
Nicole Shine: And um in the meantime, we cut to um OzCorp again. No, not OzCorp. The competitor. I forget what their competitor is called.
Conor: quest.
Nicole Shine: Quest. Quest. so we cut to them and they're doing a trial of their prototype and the military guys there and he's like yeah we'll give you a funding or whatever he's like nothing would give me he' he's like don't you have a deal with oscorp and he's like nothing would give me greater pleasure to put norman osborne out of business i'm like why does this guy hate norman so much
Conor: ah There's got to be some in the comics to that or something.
Nicole Shine: So, like, they're about to test their prototype, and, like, this is the first time we see the Green Goblin costume.
Conor: Seriously.
Conor: Very quickly. We just hear a cackle and then, yeah.
Nicole Shine: Yeah, he flies in and shoots their prototype, and I guess them.
Conor: Yeah, he fucks them up.
Nicole Shine: And, like, cuts away. So, they get, so, back to Pete and Uncle Ben. They get to the rest of, you know, the place where he's getting dropped off, and he's trying to talk to him, but he's being a little teenage shit.
Nicole Shine: He's like, yeah, I know you're going through stuff, and I don't understand, and he's like, you do. And um he's like, you know, I know I'm not your dad, and he's like, deception and clicking.
Conor: And that just, man, you see him sink in his seat.
Nicole Shine: Yeah. But before that, we get the, you know, with great power comes great responsibility.
Conor: Yeah, he's just trying to drop some knowledge on him.
Nicole Shine: He drops the line, he said the thing, um
Conor: That scene still got me.
Nicole Shine: and
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: Yeah, but before that, he he dropped after that, he drops.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: And even apologize. Like, he feels bad about it, but he don't even apologize. He just gets out.
Conor: Yeah, that could have been, you know, averted. he could have been like, I'm sorry. Look, I gotta go. We can maybe talk about it later. Yeah.
Nicole Shine: So, was he supposed to pick him up? This is why don't understand.
Conor: yeah
Nicole Shine: He was supposed to pick him up from the wrestling?
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: Because why was he still there? he was He just sat outside and waited that whole time?
Conor: No, no. He was supposed to pick him up. He left. And I guess yeah Peter was a little late.
Nicole Shine: Oh, and came back.
Conor: And yeah, yeah.
Nicole Shine: Okay.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: So anyway, so we get my favorite scene in the movie.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: So he goes to go do his amateur wrestling with the bone saw, who is GOAT.
Conor: The goat.
Nicole Shine: Macho Man Randy Savage.
Conor: RP.
Nicole Shine: um Yes, being... he He pretty much is being Macho Man Randy Savage.
Conor: He was Macho Man, but just with a different name and different tights.
Nicole Shine: Yeah, the bone saw. So he so if he go he beats the first guy up. He fights. And then Pete is walking to the ring and the guy's announcing him. Who was ah Bruce Campbell, by the way.
Conor: Yup.
Nicole Shine: And um he was announcing him and he was like, come to the stage.
Conor: Ash himself.
Nicole Shine: He was like, what's your name? He's like, the human spider. He's like, that name sucks. So he's like, ah the amazing Spider-Man. He's like, my name is the human spider. if
Conor: And they're like, I don't care, Yep.
Nicole Shine: So, um, he comes out and it's funny cause like all the like chicks that are with Bonesaw is like, Bonesaw's gonna kick kick your ass. He's gonna rip your little arms off of Spidey and all this stuff. And this little song, Bonesaw.
Nicole Shine: He's like all scared cause everybody's like throwing shit at him and like, killing kill him, kill him.
Conor: ye
Nicole Shine: So he gets in the ring with, oh yeah.
Conor: Oh, yeah.
Nicole Shine: Um, and with Marshall Man.
Conor: I got you for three minutes.
Nicole Shine: He's like, you're in here with me.
Conor: I got you for three minutes. You're not going anywhere.
Nicole Shine: When you wear. That's so good.
Conor: so good
Nicole Shine: Got you for three minutes.
Nicole Shine: Love that part. And the cage fucking drops. It's a cage match. He's like, I didn't sign for any cage match. So, um, first he's like evading him.
Nicole Shine: But then Macho grabs Bonesaw. He grabs him. And he starts like hitting him with a chair. Still chair. and then finally, what is he doing, baby?
Nicole Shine: To get away from What kind of move does he do?
Conor: Oh, to get away from Bonesaw?
Nicole Shine: Oh, to get away from him. Yeah.
Conor: Like, he basically, like, flies up, you know, uses his webs to fly up and attach to the wall.
Nicole Shine: Like, he basically, like, flies up, you know, uses his web to fly up and catch to the wall. And so I'm like, what are you doing up there?
Conor: And Bonesaw's like, what doing up there? and he's like, try and get away from you.
Nicole Shine: And he's like, I get one from you.
Conor: um and then ah he basically comes back down.
Nicole Shine: And then he basically comes back to him.
Conor: And, yeah, at first, like, one of the chicks gives Bonesaw fucking chair.
Nicole Shine: And, yeah, of course, like, one of the chicks with the homeschool, he can share. if
Conor: And he, like, dodges it. And then... um And then in a minute, like, after that happens, one of the other chicks gives him a fucking crowbar. I'm like, goddamn.
Nicole Shine: yeah she's like kill him boon's eye
Conor: Fuck you. um And, ah like, Bonesaw knocks him down a couple of times with the chair. And then he goes to get the crowbar. And then, like, Spidey basically ends up, like, kicking his ass with just his feet.
Conor: And pushes him back against the ropes. and um And then Bonesaw comes like running back, both arms up with the crowbar towards him. And Spider-Man just grabs him with both feet and just kind of alley-oops him up against the other side of cell and knocks him out. And, hey, Spidey
Nicole Shine: Yay.
Conor: Yay.
Nicole Shine: Everyone's pissed first.
Conor: Everyone's pissed at first. hu
Nicole Shine: But then they're like, Spider-Man, Spider-Man.
Conor: Yeah, yep. He gets the crowd going after.
Nicole Shine: So he goes to paid. And the guy, he's supposed to get, a remember, he's supposed to get $3,000, but the guy only gives him $100. Like, how do you go from $3,000 to $100? Yeah.
Nicole Shine: And
Conor: Yeah, and his validation didn't make sense. He was like, you're supposed to be there for three minutes. You only did two, so you get 100. I was like, what?
Nicole Shine: you're lucky to get, yeah, he's like, and you're lucky to get that.
Conor: o thou Yeah, 2,000, you know, if we're going by, i don't know.
Nicole Shine: $2,000.
Nicole Shine: And he got a whole stack of money.
Conor: Yeah, he's just counting it in front of him and shit.
Nicole Shine: And um he's like, I need that money. He's like, I failed to see how that's my problem.
Conor: Yep.
Nicole Shine: So he goes to walk out. And then right after that, he comes up, gets robbed. And he's like, stop that guy. And Pete kind of just lets him go. Bye. And the guy's like, thanks.
Nicole Shine: And then the the promoter guy comes out. And he's like, why did you let that guy get away my money? You could have just stopped him. Or you could have took that guy apart. And he's like, I don't see.
Conor: ye
Nicole Shine: I feel like that's my problem.
Conor: and
Nicole Shine: And like kind of smirked and walked off.
Conor: The guy's like, ah, you got me.
Nicole Shine: so... okay so Okay, so we all know what happens next. The guy carjacks and shoots Uncle Ben and gets away.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: And, you know, um and when when Pete goes after him fights him, he realizes that's the guy. Because he's kicking his ass.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: And then he gets him into the light because he couldn't see his face. And he sees that's the guy.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: And he let go. and a guy, like, first he' gonna he stops and the guy's going to shoot him. And the guy falls his death out the window.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: And he feels guilty about that. ah Here's the thing. like Yes, he could have stopped the guy. and like you know and indoor He inadvertently caused Uncle Ben's death.
Nicole Shine: right
Conor: Yeah.

Nicole Shine: So, like, with, he thinks about Uncle Ben's words, and he's like, yeah, I need to do something. So he starts doing Spider-Man stuff. Like, he gets a better costume, got that sweatpants shit.
Conor: Mm-hmm.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: I don't know if he sold it himself. I don't know how he got it. But anyway, they never.

Nicole Shine: He got a better Spider-Man costume. And he got the one we know. And he's doing Spider-Man shit. Saving people.

Nicole Shine: And then. At. um The Daily Bugle. We ah meet. J. Jonah Jameson.

Nicole Shine: ago um he's like he's a menace you know jay jones james hate spider-man he's a menace he's causing all the problems and why is he always at the crime scene i don't trust him why is he wearing a mask you know he hates spider-man so but he's like i want a picture of him and nobody i can get a picture of him so he puts the ad out you know to get a picture of spider-man he'll give you money so um we cut to um
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: We cut to, first we cut to Pete running into MJ on the street just by chance.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: And she's working as a waitress and she tries to lie and say she's an actress, but the guy comes out and totally like blows her up.
Conor: The owner slash chef.
Nicole Shine: Yeah, he's like, hey little girls, $8 missing from your tail. And the next time it's coming out of your check. And she's like,
Conor: Okay, Enrique, I hear you. yeah
Nicole Shine: he don't get s smart with me. So it blows her cover that she's a waitress there. And she's like, don't tell Harry. And he's like, what? And he's she's like, well, we're dating. We didn't, he didn't tell you.
Nicole Shine: Aren't you guys living together?
Conor: He was like, no. yeah
Nicole Shine: so that's how he finds out they're dating. And um they kind of have another moment. Again, not important. These little, I mean, these little moments between them are just, they're moments.
Conor: No, stop. It's setting up.
Nicole Shine: Yeah. And then he gets, So then he goes back to their apartment. And. um ah Norman is there. and um He's kind of giving Harry shit again.
Nicole Shine: Like.
Conor: Mm-hmm.
Nicole Shine: ah He's like yeah he's here. But he barely. He was on the phone the whole time. He didn't really even pay me any attention. Or and all this stuff. But. um So he tells them. that he got Pete tells them he got fired. Because he's been doing Spider-Man stuff late at night. And got.
Nicole Shine: Yeah, which is basically like, what's his name?
Conor: yeah yeah which is basically like um what's his name yeah yeah from later which is kind of a cool easter egg that never went anywhere with the raimi films but yeah
Nicole Shine: yeah and um he's like so i need another job and norman um first he's like oh yeah pete who's just uh who's this girl that harry's been seeing um he has to you know introduce and he's like oh he never mentioned her because he knows he knows who it is and it's because harry's feeling all guilty

Nicole Shine: he's like oh dad Pete loves his job maybe you can help him out or whatever and he's like no he's like I i like to earn my own way I'll think of something and it's just yeah
Conor: Did you see how Norman Osborn's face lit up when he was like, please look for Jeff. He's like, he is? Ooh.

Nicole Shine: Because at this point he kind of is not aware that he's the goblin. Like he's kind of having like a split personality where he's out doing goblin shit, but he's not like quite sure that, you know, that it's him.
Conor: Yeah.

Conor: He thinks they're like fever dreams or some shit like that.
Nicole Shine: yeah so the board is like well we're selling to quests they're their competitor they're like yeah they offered us a really good offer and we one one we couldn't refuse and um we're going announce it at the unity day festival and he's like why wasn't i told and he was like they were like well they don't want you to come with the the deal

Nicole Shine: And. Yeah. He's like looking all forlorn. At them up there. And they're kind of like looking down on him.

Nicole Shine: And, like, ah Harry starts getting uncomfortable. So, he's like, let's go inside. and
Nicole Shine: He's, like, looking at her. Like, he's, like, kind of shading her dress. Like, why didn't you wear the black dress? And she's like, why? She's like, we want to meet my dad. And want to make a good impression. the fuck is that?
Nicole Shine: But, um. And then he asked the board members, like, where's my dad? And like, we don't know. um.
Nicole Shine: Here comes, out of out in the sky, comes the goblin on the glider, and everybody's like, what's this?
Conor: Yeah.
Conor: What's that?
Nicole Shine: Is this new? A new float?
Conor: Yeah, they're like, that's not part of the thing.
Nicole Shine: He flies around, and like, his speech, Pete, Pete, I can't speak today. Spidey sense starts going off, and so he goes to change, I guess.
Conor: Yep.
Nicole Shine: And the goblin comes in and shoots him.
Conor: He throws one of his goblin balls.
Nicole Shine: Yeah, his goblin balls at the balcony with the board members and Harry. He's like, he's totally going to kill Harry, by the way. But he blows up the balcony, and then, like, he, like, flies over to the balcony.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: He takes one of his balls that's the incinerated ball, I guess.
Conor: Yep.
Nicole Shine: he Like, he has different goblin balls to do different things.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: He took the one and just incinerated the board members.
Conor: He's like, out, am I? And just boom.
Nicole Shine: m Then he threw another one and blew up the balcony again. in MJ's about to fall because this bitch can't stay out of danger.
Conor: Yep.
Nicole Shine: and here comes Spider-Man to save the day. But first he saves this little kid because the balloon burst and it was pushing the thing over going fall on him.
Conor: Yep.
Nicole Shine: And his mom's like, save somebody, save him. I'm like, bitch, grab your son. You're literally five feet away.
Conor: I know, right?
Nicole Shine: Just grab him and pull him back.
Conor: The kid can't move.
Nicole Shine: Somebody save him. man.

Nicole Shine: that's ah His legs do work, don't they? But anyway, Spider-Man comes, saves him, and then he saves and grabs her. He fights Goblin, though. For little bit. And then he fights with the Goblin,
Conor: He fights the Goblin for a little bit. um and then, like, he basically fucks up the Goblin, speeds her to where he has to retreat.

Conor: And then, of course, perfectly timed, that's when MJ starts falling.
Nicole Shine: And then he saves
Conor: Yeah. And then he saves MJ.
Nicole Shine: Yeah. And, yeah, so he rides off, he swings off with her and drops her in the park and they have like a little cute back and forth.
Nicole Shine: She's like, yeah, amazing. And then he flies away. And she's, he's she's like, who are you? And she's like, he's like, you know who I am. She's like, I do.
Nicole Shine: like, bitch is literally Peter.
Conor: Oh ah
Nicole Shine: He's not changing his voice. You don't know his voice. And he's like, yeah, you know who I am. I'm your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Swings off. So she's all like geeked about him on the phone to Harry. And he's getting jealous and peeps in the background like.
Conor: Yeah, he's digging it. He's loving it.
Nicole Shine: She's like, he's amazing.
Conor: And then Harry is like, oh, let me come over. And she's like, no, going go to bed. He's like, well, let me take you out tomorrow. And i want to buy you something.
Nicole Shine: Let me buy you something.
Conor: Like, oh, my God.
Nicole Shine: To make you feel better. Like. the
Conor: I felt like the writing for him as a spoiled like child was very well.
Nicole Shine: spoiled the very and so like we get this like break down what fucking
Conor: You know? Yeah. I feel like that's what would happen.
Nicole Shine: cause like Norman is like hearing the goblin voice yeah it's like just doing this thing like where it's a separate consciousness and he he's immediately like comes to the realization that it's him that's doing all this he's like everything just happens to just be working out for you perfectly huh so yeah and it kind of goes back and forth with him in the mirror and he realizes that it is him and they come up he comes up with this plan to like
Conor: Yeah.
Conor: Yeah, that's a really good scene, though. Yeah.
Conor: yeah
Nicole Shine: get spider-man on their side try to get them to join him yeah um so that's that for now um is it the rain scene next where he likes stalking mary jane outside of her job because he's like oh how's your actor he just shows up again like how's your acting gun and she's like what the
Conor: Yep, and if not, they kill him. Yeah.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: She's like, how did you know?
Conor: yeah
Nicole Shine: And she's like, well, you know, your mom told my aunt and I took two buses and train to get here, a taxi to get here. Like, I would been like, don't know.
Conor: That should have been a red flag right there. but
Nicole Shine: But um she's like, I have a, um he asked her to go out for a hamburger. But she's like, I have a date with Harry. And um she's like, you want to come?
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: and he's like, no.

Nicole Shine: And so he goes to, she goes to leave and it goes, they're separate ways. And um the guys, these group of guys chase her. Like you could not, like she has no, you don't even need Spidey sense to know that's a dangerous situation.
Nicole Shine: Like you walking down a dark alley with all these guys like at night.
Conor: Yeah.
Conor: Well, she walks by the guys and they don't even wait.
Nicole Shine: And they're like, check it out. Yeah.
Conor: Yeah, they don't even wait for her to get like far enough away to not hear them. And he's like, hey man, check it out.

Nicole Shine: they start following her, and course Pete follows her, because he don't even really need Spidey's sense to know this is a dumbass situation.
Conor: He knows that something bad is going to happen.
Nicole Shine: So he follows behind, and of course the guy's to attack and she's like fighting at first, but they pulled him up.
Conor: Yeah.
Conor: One of them does a kissy face and the other one does this. Like, what the fuck was that?
Nicole Shine: But, um, yeah, he he shows up and saves her, and this is the famous, like,
Conor: Upside down kiss.
Nicole Shine: upside down kissing the rain with her nips full on like i'm like dude we have to
Conor: It's cold. It's cold, baby. And I'm not going to As young Connor enjoyed that scene very much.
Nicole Shine: is it cold outside baby you can see the whole outline of everything and she had a bra on you can still see the whole outline everything so it must have been really cold

Conor: It'd be funnier if you also saw that Spider-Man's niffs were showing through his suit.
Nicole Shine: But they get the upside down kiss. And I feel like she kind of, she knew it was Pete. Because that's why she didn't take his thing off all the way. But, um yeah, so that's that.

Conor: And he's basically like, who takes a picture of Spider-Man? He's like, I don't know. And so Peter Parker changes real quick and he like comes around to the window that Goblin broke into and was like, you know, let's, let's talk outside or whatever.
Conor: And so he, he basically is gonna, ah sorry, Goblin ends up like putting some sleeping meds on him and take Spider-Man and,
Nicole Shine: He basically is gonna start a goblin and ends up putting some sleeping beds on him and takes the fireman and takes him up to the roof and he basically runs his plan by him.
Conor: and takes him up to the roof and he basically like runs his plan by him he's like look we could keep going after each other again and again again and probably end up killing each other or we could join forces and of course spiderman's very much like no dude you you kill people he's like hey look man sometimes things gotta happen yeah exactly make your choice and

Nicole Shine: the And they they get into this old big old fight where Spider-Man gets cut, but they both you know both get away.

Nicole Shine: And that transition was terrible, too.
Conor: There were some cheesy transitions in this movie.

Nicole Shine: And oh I didn't know Pete was there. And they go and like check out his room.
Conor: The window's open, no one's there. Yeah.
Nicole Shine: like Why did everybody go up to his room? like What if he was in there naked? like right Getting dressed.
Conor: Right?
Nicole Shine: He's not there, but he's hiding on the ceiling. And it's ah supposed to be tense. And the blood drops down because it cut itself. And um thick-ass, fake-ass blood that Norman notices it.
Nicole Shine: And he kind of looks. And then he leaves. And then like Pete's like hanging outside on the... Underneath
Conor: Underneath the over balcony, yeah.
Nicole Shine: open bathroom, yeah. But it's Thanksgiving dinner and... This part is funny. He comes with the cranberry sauce. And like. um He goes.
Nicole Shine: So they get ready to have food. And she's like let's take grace. And he normally goes like stick his hand in the food. And she smacks
Conor: Like Candid Yams, yeah.
Nicole Shine: And she smacks his hand.
Conor: He does a real creepy look at her.
Nicole Shine: And he looked. He looked at her like bitch.
Conor: And then he just licks his fingers like, mm, mm.
Nicole Shine: And then like. But yeah. Why are sticking your hands in the yams?
Conor: He does what he wants.
Nicole Shine: like that's your side so like and she's like you do the honors he starts strapping his knives and then like um just like when this is the first time he meets mary jay and when mary jane when he comes in and he just kind of gives her this look like real creepy look there and check out theater like he's just staring her yeah

Conor: A real creepy look. Like right before they go upstairs check on Peter, like he's just staring at her like, yeah, yeah.
Nicole Shine: ah so he's sharpened his knives and she's like um um aunt may is like oh peach you hurt yourself and in he stops and and she pulls the sleeve back and he's like how did you get that and she's he's like oh a bike courier i ran into a bike courier or something and then now he knows that he's spider-man yeah

Conor: Yep. Yeah, because it's the exact same arm and slice that he cut Spider-Man with.
Nicole Shine: yeah And he's just like, I have to go. Norman's like, I have to go. And he was getting ready to run out. And Harry follows him. He's like, Dad, I've got you here to meet MJ.
Nicole Shine: You're just going to leave. And he's like, oh girl, like that, they only want one thing there after your money. Like, he's saying it real loud, like where everybody can hear.
Conor: Right?
Nicole Shine: And he's like, just have your fun with her and Broomer. Yeah. Like, Jesus Christ.
Conor: Yeah. Like, Jesus Christ, dude.
Nicole Shine: And then he leaves. And she's like, thanks for sticking up for me. And I'm like, what was he supposed to do? Like, the man feels how he feels. Like, what was he supposed to do?
Conor: Yeah, but still, you could have said something. Like, he he did at first, but, like, he didn't say shit after.
Nicole Shine: He did.
Conor: He was like, just broom her and get rid of her. Like, that was, you could have said something.
Nicole Shine: He was leaving.
Conor: I'm sorry.
Nicole Shine: yeah he would have but wouldve been like, what? ah Fuck you.
Conor: Yeah, yeah, you could have said something. Yeah, by saying nothing, you're just like not sticking up for her, so.
Nicole Shine: But um but what he it was what he said next.
Conor: No.
Nicole Shine: Because after she' he said that. She was like. He's my dad. and I hope to become half the man he is. Or whatever. You don't know.
Nicole Shine: shut up about what you don't know about. or something That's when Aunt May was like. Harry.
Conor: Yeah, seriously.
Nicole Shine: So she gets all manly. Harry Aunt May. And so. Back to it. norman's house he he's getting this like um having goblin talk again and he's like oh it's peter parker he's like we gotta kill him he's like i can't because i'm like a father saying i'm like why we have never really seen you be like a father you have a son but he's like we must make him pay for his betrayal i'm like we're betrayal he literally does not know that you're a green goblin
Conor: i You have a child, dude God.
Conor: Right.
Nicole Shine: But, um, so anyway, we like he he's like, yeah, we attack his heart first.
Conor: Yep.
Nicole Shine: So he goes and attacks Aunt May. because She's saying her prayers. He, like, blows her house up.
Conor: Dick. God.
Nicole Shine: Yeah, love it. That part is so cheesy. Finish Because she's saying her prayers to lay me down and deliver us from evil.
Conor: ah Yeah. Deliver us from evil.
Nicole Shine: Woo! It is cheesy.
Conor: It is cheesy.
Nicole Shine: It's murder.
Conor: It's very cheesy. Yeah.
Nicole Shine: So she's in the hospital. Pete comes in. And she's like, those are us. Those are us. And he's like, he knows who I So he stays there with her. And ah Mary Jane comes. Again, they have a moment.
Nicole Shine: Because she tells him she has a crush on Spider-Man. She's like, oh, I have a crush on him. He's like, well, talk to him all the time. And she's like, well, what do you tell him?
Nicole Shine: And he goes into this long-ass fucking speech about how much he loves her basically.
Conor: But he's acting like Spider-Man said it.
Nicole Shine: What that? And, um, she's like, you said, and Aunt May's, like, air hustling, pretending to be asleep.
Conor: Yeah.
Conor: ah She totally is like, i love that. You see her face and she's like, oh yeah, you got her. You got her.
Nicole Shine: And, um, he's like, yeah, um, I told him all that, and I said, it would've been cool she was like, cool, you have his number? Um, and then, like, they're kind of holding hands, and Harry walks in, and he's like, uh, it just kind of cuts away, and, um,
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: he goes to dad's house and he's like you were right about her she's in love with peter like you got that from him holding his aunt is literally in the hospital they're friends and they were holding hands you got like yeah you got they're in love from that so um but by this time norman knows that he's yeah spider-man so she's he's like oh really
Conor: I know, right? What if she was just comforting from breaking down? Yeah. Right.
Conor: From earlier. Yeah. Thanksgiving. Yeah.
Nicole Shine: and he's like yeah he's like and how does he feel about her and he's like oh he's really in love with her even though he tries to act like he's not and uh he's like a really he's like harry i'm sorry i've haven't been you know good to you and i want to make it up to you and all this stuff and gives him a hug and um that's so basically so um
Conor: Since the third grade or whatever. Yeah.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: Aunt May wakes up and her and Pete have this talk and he's talking about like MJ, how much he cares about her. And he's she's like, why don't you tell her how you feel? Everybody else knows. And he's like, oh shit.
Nicole Shine: So he goes to try to call her and she's doesn an answer machine and then it goblin picks up and he's like, where is
Conor: It's like, I got your woman.
Nicole Shine: So um he has her like on a bridge. on Brooklyn Bridge, Queens Bridge, whatever.
Conor: Yeah, basically like on that top part of where the, yeah.
Nicole Shine: So her on one side, this group of kids in there look looks like a Boy Scouts or whatever.
Conor: Boy Scout Troop that just happens to be using that at night.
Nicole Shine: and like It's like 10, 11 o'clock at night. It's like, why are why are they not home in bed? Like, again, things that could have been avoided.
Nicole Shine: Makes think of like how creepy some Boy Scouts are.
Conor: makes me think of like how creepy some boy scout counselors are he's like taking them on a weekend he's like yeah ah he really was yeah not from green goblin but from the cub scout guy right he's like oh yeah oh god okay facts of yeah
Nicole Shine: He was saving them kids from that Boy Scout line. Because why is he with all these little boys at this late at night?
Nicole Shine: Anyway. So basically it's Sophie's choice. He blows up the little thing that the fairry the skyline thing goes into. So it's either save the Boy Scouts or Or save Mary Jane.
Nicole Shine: Yeah.
Conor: Yeah, he's holding her over, like, the edge, and he's holding the Boy Scout cable, you know, yeah.
Nicole Shine: easily
Nicole Shine: And he drops them both. And got him to pick one. But Spider-Man does Spider-Man things. And grabs both of them.
Conor: NBA first, though.
Nicole Shine: Yeah.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: And then he's holding her. And she's like. And he's like. He can't hold on for long for both of them. So he's like. He's going to have to climb down. He can't.
Conor: Because Goblin keeps on flying by, punching him and shit.
Nicole Shine: So, like shooting, like flying by, punching um
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: So he's going to drop him. So she's like trying to climb down the rope.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: And he's shot flying by, but you know, punching Spider-Man, like all that. And then just the cheesy part with the people.
Conor: Yeah, it is cheesy. Like, it's funny.
Nicole Shine: Yeah.
Conor: At first, you see, like, this tugboat at the bottom.
Nicole Shine: Yeah.
Conor: Like, oh, we're coming up below you, Spider-Man.
Nicole Shine: yeah
Conor: Drop it on our you know, boat.
Nicole Shine: yeah
Conor: And then after a few more punches from Goblin on Spider-Man, you know, balancing the the card of the Boy Scouts and Mary Jane, he goes to, like, basically his knives come out from his glider, and he's about to just fucking tag Spider-Man.
Conor: And then all of sudden he gets hit from something from above, and there's our cheesy.
Nicole Shine: Yeah, yeah. This is for you, Spidey. Don't miss a Spidey. You miss a New York.
Conor: You messed with New York. He's like,
Nicole Shine: um You miss a New York. You miss New York.
Conor: You missed with one of us. You missed all of us. Like, shut up.
Nicole Shine: Shut up. they started like throwing trash. He would have just shot them or blew them up or something.
Conor: I know, right? Throw one of his, like, goblin balls.
Nicole Shine: They started pelting them with garbage or whatever.
Conor: Right? ah
Nicole Shine: You messed one of us. You messed with all of them.
Conor: All of us. Yeah.
Nicole Shine: So, they, I forget what Oh, you say to get the cart down on the boat their exchange is on there.
Conor: Oh, he he safely gets the cart down on the the boat, and Mary Jane is on there. And then he's about to, like, as soon as he does that, um Goblin, like, lassos him with something.
Conor: And he basically, like, drags him away. And he basically flings him into this old abandoned building on one of the islands near the bridge.
Nicole Shine: him that still comes in the eye.
Conor: And they go into the final battle.
Nicole Shine: and they yeah have this fight, and Pete is getting his ass beat.
Conor: Yep, he really is.
Nicole Shine: He getting his ass whizz up.
Conor: yeah
Nicole Shine: Like, so bad. Like, he blows up.
Conor: He takes a goblin ball like, you know, right to the, ball to the face.
Nicole Shine: His mask is all Right to the face. Ball to the face. just his ass beat and he's beginning and he's about to like get speared or whatever with that thing until norman running his mouth too much yeah he's like oh i was going to give her a quick painless death but now i'm going to make it slow and all the yeah
Conor: Monologue, bad guy monologue, dude.
Conor: Oh.
Conor: Yeah, slow and nice. Yeah.
Nicole Shine: we're gonna have a time and jayna so of course he powers up because mj
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: And starts fighting back and beating his ass. Getting better of him. Kicking his ass. And then um he tries to do the thing that all villains do once he's getting beat.
Nicole Shine: He's like, oh, it's me. Yeah.
Conor: Yeah, like this is where he takes off his mask and Spider-Man's like, oh shit, you're Norman, you know?
Nicole Shine: Yeah. Yeah.
Conor: Cause that he didn't know who it was, but yeah, he takes his mask off.
Nicole Shine: yeah
Conor: And I mean, Norman Osborn, Green Goblin was pretty yeah smooth about doing that, you know, appealing to his humanity side, but yeah.
Conor: And all, all the while he's like, Oh, help me. I, I can't control it. It's going to take over, you know, help me. And all while he's doing this, he's like presses the button on his wrist, which calls his glider.
Nicole Shine: Yeah.
Conor: ah And yeah, take it away. Yeah.
Nicole Shine: Yeah. so he, um, he took his mask off and he was like, I can't control it. And you know, help me, Pete, and he's like, well, you killed people, and you tried to kill Aunt May, you tried kill matt MJ, and he's like, well, you know, i but I didn't kill you, and I knew you would be able to help me, and again, you're like a son to me, and he's like, I had father, his name Ben Parker, and like, so he's like, ah and then he comes, like, goes back into his Green Goblin shit, and he's got you, Spider-Man,
Conor: yeah
Conor: Godspeed, Spider-Man. Because he basically knows at that point that I can't turn him.
Nicole Shine: and o
Conor: He's too good.
Nicole Shine: So he goes to like, they have the glider and you course by the sense, he sees it coming and he does a flip over it and it impales Norman was pretty funny.
Conor: last second Norman goes oh and just impales him
Nicole Shine: And he like, don't tell Harry and dies. I'm like, I'm telling Harry everything.
Conor: yeah everything yeah that's true
Nicole Shine: But that was his mistake on this one, not telling Harry. ah But um so he Yeah, that's feels bad for him and takes him back to the house and puts him down.
Nicole Shine: And Harry kind of walks in on him, putting him in the bed or a chaise or whatever.
Conor: a
Conor: Yeah, yeah.
Nicole Shine: thing is And he's like, he gets going like, good what are you doing? So basically he thinks he he thinks Spider-Man killed him.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: But I'm like, if I'm Spider-Man, why would I kill him and bring him home?
Conor: I know, yeah.
Nicole Shine: Why wouldn't I just leave him if I killed him?
Conor: Right?
Nicole Shine: Why wouldn't I just leave him where he was?
Conor: Yup.
Nicole Shine: So, anyway. So, he does that. And we cut to Norm's funeral. And um he's like, oh, you know, consoling Harry. Like, I know it's like the loser father.
Nicole Shine: and he's like, oh, Spider-Man will pay my dad's life. I vow. You know, all that shit.
Conor: Yep.
Nicole Shine: And um he's like, you're the only family I have, Pete. gives him a hug and and he goes to uncle ben's grave and he's you know having a moment mj comes and finally confesses that she's in love with peter parker la la la all the things and um they kiss and then he's like man oh i can't all the people i love get hurt so he basically realizes that he can't be with her because She's close to him.
Conor: And they hug and he leaves. Yep.
Conor: Yep.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: She's going to keep being a target even though she continues to be a target.
Conor: She'd be one without him.
Nicole Shine: And, um, because she can't stay out of danger. And, um, so basically he's like, he curbs her. Like, we can only be friends.
Conor: Yeah, that's all I have to offer.
Nicole Shine: You know, I'll always be there to support you, but as a friend.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: She's like, just as a friend? And he's like, yeah. But, like, when they kiss, because they kiss, and she realizes, like, wait. Her dumbass finally realizes that he's Spider-Man, I think.
Conor: Right. And he walks away.
Nicole Shine: And he walks off slow motion. And great power, great responsibility.
Conor: And...
Nicole Shine: He is Spider-Man.
Conor: That's right.
Nicole Shine: Cut to him in the end. Doing Spider-Man stuff. The end.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: So.
Conor: Yay.
Nicole Shine: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: So that was it. um Favorite character.
Conor: JJ, baby. For the brief amount of time he was on screen, man. He stole.
Nicole Shine: stole
Conor: He really did.
Nicole Shine: Yeah, me too. You know, I love some J. Jonah Jameson. It was Bonesaw. was a close second.
Conor: Oh, yeah, totally.
Nicole Shine: But Bonesaw is kind of he wasn't really, you know, he's not really.
Conor: He was just him, you know, yeah, with a different name.
Nicole Shine: Yeah. But yeah, in all these movies, well, I won won't give away all the rest of the movies. But yeah, I love. Of course, everybody's going say Spidey. But no, it's is J.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: Jonah Jameson for me.
Conor: Yeah, plus he did, like, the voice for J. Jonah in, like, the video games, which was so great. I love when actors do that. For sure.
Nicole Shine: Yeah, um, the least favorite character.
Conor: At first I thought I didn't have one, but then I thought about it and i don't really hate her. kind of just hate the way she treats everyone in the film.
Nicole Shine: Really? Okay.
Conor: And I'm sorry, it's Mary Jane.

Nicole Shine: um First, it was going, he's not even a character, but he's just so corny. It was going be, yeah, it's good. to this Don't mess with Spidey.

Conor: Didn't we reveal a movie where I said, like, my least favorite character was, like, a group of people?
Nicole Shine: corny. But, um yeah, I married Jane because, like, baby, moving a lot.
Conor: Yeah.

Nicole Shine: Yeah, Mary Jane because um geez she... um I'm being Mary Jane right now But yeah, especially in later movies.
Nicole Shine: Like this one, I don't mind her as much.

Nicole Shine: But like, it's very much like she's going like back and forth between these two friends. And it's like...
Conor: She plays like, yeah.
Nicole Shine: is It's like if you don't support her perfectly 100%, she don't like you.
Conor: Right.
Nicole Shine: Like, if you support her, are supporting her in the moment, then she loves you.
Conor: Right.
Nicole Shine: If you're not supporting 100% everything she does, or making it all about her, then she doesn't love you anymore. and It's just like, it's very like, she's annoying to me.
Conor: Yeah.

Nicole Shine: Going Stacey all day. um
Nicole Shine: So, does the movie hold up?
Conor: I'm going to go away from my fandom and be like, no. Because, like, I actually do love this movie.
Nicole Shine: Yeah. Yeah.
Conor: And now the three Sam Raimi films. I do. This one's my favorite. But when we were watching it today, I was just thinking, watching it as like, you know, trying to see it as a non-fan or whatever. And it's very dated, you know, the the effects, the cheese, you know.
Conor: um But
Conor: that's hard. As like a comic movie fan, I think it does. But as someone who's not, I think it's dated, you know?
Nicole Shine: Yeah, I don't... I don't... ah um Spoiler alert, I'm not the biggest Spider-Man fan. Like, I don't mind him, but I'm just not super huge. Like, when people are like, oh, hell when a new Spider-Man comes out and everybody has to like go, I'm not the biggest Spider-Man fan.
Nicole Shine: I'm much more of a DC person.
Conor: Yeah.
Nicole Shine: And when it comes to Marvel, it's like X-Men or or Ghost Rider for me. So, which I'm very excited about that.
Conor: Gotcha. Yeah.
Nicole Shine: But, um... But I don't mind Spider-Man. um I would say it doesn't hold up. So it's not like, oh, they're not holding true to the Spider-Man.

Nicole Shine: Like, I don't care about that. um

Nicole Shine: It's more like the effects are very, very... I mean, it looks better than some stuff that's out today, but...
Conor: It actually does. yeah there are a couple of times we said that.
Nicole Shine: yeah Yeah, the specs the effects are very bad. Well, not bad, but dated. and um
Conor: The transition on quite a few scenes was... I'm like, what the fuck?
Nicole Shine: was bad and and um the costume for green goblin was really um it
Conor: Yeah.
Conor: I liked it.
Conor: It's so different than the comic, but I dig it.
Nicole Shine: i couldn't take him seriously as being a scary villain with that costume it very party city um but yeah yeah

Conor: As comic book fans, I felt like, oh, they could never, it would be great, but they'll never be able to transition to it on the big screen.
Nicole Shine: It was great for me to it on the big screen.
Conor: And I felt so like happy when this movie and X-Men came out because I felt like this is how it can be done.
Nicole Shine: And felt so happy when this movie came out. I felt like this is how we're done.
Conor: yeah. Woo-hoo. so yeah
