Speaker: There is nothing so powerful as truth and often nothing so strange. American statesman Daniel Webster. Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen, to a very special episode of the Lost in the Frame podcast.
Speaker: I am your host, Alex. I'm your host, Malik. And now I'm your host, Tachi. And today is our second, count that, episode. iterations of the Spooktober Halloween special.
Speaker: And we're very, very excited to talk about tonight's topic. But first, how are you guys doing today? I'm good. I found my super suit for those watching.
Speaker: I'm dressed as Frozone, if you're just listening. We need to get the video up on Spotify. I don't know how to do that. I don't know how to do that either. but What are you guys dressed up as? Joe Rogan does.
Speaker: We're on that level. We are on that level. What are you guys dressed up as? I'm dressed up as a Ravenclaw student. I've got my rope my cloak, my robes, and then my wand.
Speaker: Give me feeling magical. Yeah, give me a spell. Go.
Speaker: Appalachia Grabber. Grab her. It worked. You got to grab. First try. Yeah.
Speaker: Well, what about you, Alex? What are you? Dressed up as great American author, Hunter S. Thompson, of course. Nice. Author of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail 72, Hell's Angels, Better Than Sex, and many, many other classic titles.
Speaker: I thought you were going to come as a fucking ah the guy from one one battle after another that we did our Halloween shoot in. That was last year. That was last year. i am I forgetting his name?
Speaker: Bob first. Oh, my God. Oh, it is Bobby. Okay. Ghetto Pat. Ghetto Pat, yeah. Yeah, I'm excited for this episode. um We're doing some some true story, true story documentaries. um Ghost Adventures, the one that kicked it all off, and then Moment of Contact. we got ghosts and we got aliens. But let's talk about a quick, rapid review.
Speaker: What has been each of our favorite either first watches or rewatches horror movie this month, now that October is ending? Tachi, did you ever get to finish or start a horror movie? If so, what was it?
Speaker: I did. And I actually have on top of that, a surprise for both of you. So I did finish alien Romulus. Um, it was great at a really fun time yeah now for the surprise. Oh, sorry. I did rate that three and a half stars.
Speaker: Um, before the surprise he leaked for you, I watched green room. Oh, you did. i did. Oh my God. Tell me all about it. What did you think? i really had no idea what to expect.
Speaker: um Obviously, the the synopsis is ah a punk rock band is forced to fight for survival after witnessing an act of violence at a skinhead bar. So kind of revolves around punk rock and Nazis and survival and fun stuff like that.
Speaker: I feel like a lot of that sort of messaging kind of went over my head and I just kind of took it at surface value. But... No, it was good. It was really good. I don't think I liked it as much as you.
Speaker: Not a five star. That's fine. It is. It is one of my favorite movies like of all time. It's in my letterbox top four. I would like to hear more about that. um Like why? But it was good and I did enjoy it and I really liked.
Speaker: Who was it? um
Speaker: Anton Yelkin. May he rest in peace. but Yeah, he was really great. RIP to the GOAT. Taken way too soon in a freak accident. Crazy.
Speaker: Really, really terrible. But yeah, he was he was fantastic in this. And then Alex, for you, I watched The Crazies. Oh, let's go. Oh, nice. And that stars Timothy Oliphant.
Speaker: And he's awesome. um Yeah. I liked both. I think the scarier one is probably Green Room, just because it's more grounded and I guess a realistic circumstance. But The Crazies has some like really sick sequences.
Speaker: um And Timothy Offhand is just incredible in everything I've ever seen him in. So I probably had more fun with The Crazies. But um Green Room may be the better movie.
Speaker: i'm I'm sure it is. ah i mean, the crazies, i think it just shines in the fact that it just kind of slaps. Like, it's I don't find it particularly scary, but I find it very thrilling.
Speaker: And I do need to watch Green Room. And I believe, Malik, you need to watch the crazies, so. I do need i do need to watch the crazies. So, yeah, we should. ah There's a couple days left to spooktober. Yeah, I've got like eight movies left on my spooktober list. And I'm like, I don't know what happened, but time just got away from me. So I got to whittle it down to a couple. Same. i and I feel like I just need to pigeonhole or stop pigeonholing myself for trying to like save movies for October and just watch them and then fill October with the ones like I really, really want to rewatch or really want watch the first time.
Speaker: um Because there's like a lot of like slop I feel like I've got to sift through to to get to the the good stuff. But my ah my rapid review tonight, it's it's kind of a horror movie. um but It's nineteen fifty five s The Night of the Hunter.
Speaker: or Starring or directed by Charles Lawton and starring Robert Mitchum and Shelley Winters. um This is a movie about a serial killing preacher in West Virginia in the Great Depression trying to find a stash of money he heard about while he was in prison.
Speaker: um Man, I don't know what to say about this movie. It's like ah like a very demented fairy tale is is how it struck me. um The soundtrack is great. I think Robert Mitchum is absolutely incredible in this, but the real star of the show is Lillian Gish.
Speaker: who who kind of shows up maybe halfway into the movie. And I think she absolutely steals it. There's like three scenes in this movie that are living rent free in my head since I first watched it. I'm not going to tell you what they are because I want you guys to watch this. And I want you to try and pick out the moments they're talking about. But even for a 1955 movie, two of them left a little chill in my spine. and I'm going to give this one a five out of five.
Speaker: Whoa. Yeah. Very nice. Yeah, my rapid review for this month is also a five out of five. This was a huge blind spot. I was texting you guys about it. um The Silence of the Lambs starring Jodie Foster and Sir Anthony Hopkins.
Speaker: Guys, Jesus Christ, that movie is so good. It puts the lotion in the basket or it gets the hose again. That is that I just put the lotion.
Speaker: I get it. Like, I get it. um For those that don't know the story ah follows an FBI agent seeking the help of a cannibal Hannibal Lecter to catch another serial killer who's skinning people alive. Buffalo. um Buffalo Bill.
Speaker: The interactions between Hannibal Lecter and Clarice are just top of the line. Like it makes so much sense why this movie took home the five big awards at, I believe the 64th Academy Awards. And it's only the third movie to do that. That's a actor, best picture writing,
Speaker: Cinematography director. I'm not sure not actually might have that wrong. um Oh actress actress replace cinematography with actress. So it got the two lead actors awards ah writing picture directing.
Speaker: You know you to know what's crazy about the the awards for the best actor and actress for it. I think Buffalo Bill is the best performance in the movie. He's really good. Like he gives a very. Are you kidding me, dude? like Yeah, a very eerie, scary performance. But like this does feel like the blueprint for all of the ah those types of shows and and movies and that whole like subgenre kind of came from here. And I can see why.
Speaker: And you guys have both seen it, right? Yeah. No. You haven't seen it, Tachi? Okay. There's. Yeah. there's a big sequence at the end that obviously a lot of people talk about that I just, I didn't know about.
Speaker: And when it happened, you know, is it the, yeah. Yeah. I was like, I had no idea that that happened. I went, holy shit. And I'm so glad that I had that. Like, so I won't spoil it here for you, Tachi. So I can just, it was, it that's a five out of five. That was a, that was a great movie. I really enjoyed my time with it. Would you do me?
Speaker: I do me. i didn't even know that's where that was from. do be hard. I guess that's the original, right? I'm assuming. yeah Okay. All right. Yeah, that was. Is that maybe based on, ah is that an original screenplay? Is it adapted based on a book? I believe.
Speaker: Yeah. Based on a book. It did get adapted. Um, yeah. So that was, that was awesome. Is there anything, what are you guys planning to watch for the next couple days? What's at the top of your list of any? Oh, I got some ho-scaring movies.
Speaker: I decided to, because I just have not been having a good look with um ah like trying to find like a horror movie to scare me this spooked over so far.
Speaker: Yeah. um just they've all i mean Of the ones I've watched, I've actually enjoyed a lot of them as like a movie, but as a horror movie, like I've been like... So I went back to the disturbing movie Iceberg, the one that Wendigoon covered a few years ago.
Speaker: And I went to tier three and I picked out two that I have not seen because the last one I watched off it was Cannibal Holocaust. And that actually like kind of messed me up.
Speaker: So ah at some point in the next two days, i will be watching Suicide Club, this Japanese movie. And the very, very, very infamous...
Speaker: Solo or the 120 days of Solo. Oh, yeah. Oh, you have to let us know how that one is. Yeah. um What about you, T-Money? What are you planning to? Are you tapped out for horror?
Speaker: I'm going through my watch list. Um, I might check out cure. oh that's a blind spot for You should, but there's so many classics that I haven't seen. Like, like the one you just watched, um, the one with the the guy bursting through the door. What is that?
Speaker: The, the haunted hotel or oh the shining shining the shining the shining. Yeah. I haven't seen that either. Um, but yeah, I'll, I'll check something out. There are a few days left. I think if I can do three, I'm going to do Dr. Sleep, which is the sequel to The Shining, um Possessor, that's Cronenberg, and The Exorcist 3, which wasn't originally on my list, but after that Martyrs trailer and then you talked about Alex, I was like, okay, I want to i really wanna watch this. If I can only do two, I'll do Dr. Sleep and Exorcist 3.
Speaker: But that's where we're at. um Let's get to the two that we're talking about. But first, I want to talk about some of the scariest films of all time, according to science. So this is a list. This website puts together a list. They measure the scariest movies of all time. And some of the metrics that they take into consideration here are your heart rate.
Speaker: your heart rate variability, and then your peak heart rate. So they punch in all these numbers, all these nerds, and get some data sets. And from all these numbers, they get a scare score. And so they start ranking all these movies. So i wanted to go over the top 10 and see if we agree or not.
Speaker: um Tied at number 10 is Hell House LLC and Talk to Me. I've never seen Hell House. Has anyone here seen it? Nope. It's solid. Do you agree? It's a solid found footage, but I wouldn't say it's like top five scariest found footage I've ever seen.
Speaker: Yeah, this is according to science, so take that as you will. um Talk to me. ah I remember not liking this as much as everybody else. yeah I thought it was fine. Okay, hang on. The Exorcist 37. Just keep that in mind when thinking about this list.
Speaker: Okay. 37. Number nine is The Exorcism of Emily Rose. I've also never seen this one. Not seen that one. That has a scare score of 76. Number eight is Smile, and number seven is Smile 2. Okay.
Speaker: All right, sure. um Number six is Hereditary. That makes sense. That makes sense. Yeah. I almost left. I've told this story before. I almost left the theater in that movie.
Speaker: Yeah. I almost did. I thought I was going to have a panic attack. That first watch is something else. um Number five is The Conjuring. No.
Speaker: I will say it makes sense. I remember when it came out. like when when Number four is also Insidious. We can talk about both of these. I remember when both of these came out. This was before we got like all of the different iterations of all these movies and before it kind of became...
Speaker: horror slop, I would say, but I rewatched the first Conjuring maybe like a couple years ago. I think it holds up. And I specifically remember like the ah the clap scene with the with the clapping in the dark and that just being absolutely terrifying. And if they were measuring my heart rate, it was up there. See, did not see the Conjuring until like two years ago.
Speaker: really saw the conjuring 2 in college but i did not see the first one until about two years ago which is crazy because i grew up in rhode island as i've i think i've said before in the pod but if not um i'll just dox myself um which i've already done like you're public man nine or ten times um they're coming for you oh yeah they are but the conjuring takes place in rhode island Like, that is Rhode Island's one of probably, I think, two or three like very famous ghost stories.
Speaker: Maybe the most famous being Mercy Brown, the vampire. And i never saw it. And I i remember watching and thinking, like, man, this was a moment in time that I missed.
Speaker: Yeah. But, but, saw Insidious for the first time. And when did that come out? 2013? Earlier. 2011? Yeah. I feel like I was like a sophomore or junior in high school. I think I was in high school. I might have been in middle school for it when I first saw it. Maybe it was like junior high school. was everything. And we were just... So know the scene where he rounds the corner and you see the guy standing over the crib or the bed or whatever? Like a split second?
Speaker: Yeah. I mean, tearing out of the room. run screaming running of the room like it was scary and then you got tiny tim the soundtrack oh yeah but that changed that changed the horror landscape like forever that really did it so that one i could see number three i'm pissed at skin him a rink they didn't watch the hulu version with the ads ah touch i won't even recommend I'll never recommend Skin of a Ring to anybody. I don't get it.
Speaker: this is not This is not for me.
Speaker: I've only seen three these. Only three? hope one of them is number one. Number two, Host, which is I also haven't seen. Yeah, that one's on my list. Okay, so we haven't seen that one. And then number one, Sinister, with Ethan Hawke.
Speaker: That first opening scene is pretty...
Speaker: That's wild stuff. Yeah. I, I do like sinister. I watched sinister sometime in the 2020. So pretty late. Same way you did. Um, the conjuring. I wish I watched this when it, when it came out, I think, I think it would have been up there, but it's a good movie. It is a good movie. It's good. I kind of think it loses it in the end, but Oh yeah. The flick, the found footage in it is, so is really creepy and it's so well done. Like,
Speaker: It's what people think the footage in the ring is. Because so you know earlier I said I went and watched ah you know the Japanese version of the ring, and then I watched the American ring footage, like the footage that starts the the countdown.
Speaker: And I just don't think it holds up at all. But the footage in Sinister feels like you're watching something illegal. it It felt real. Yeah, it's so grim.
Speaker: Yeah, it's it's not all right. This is a crazy list. The Exorcist at 37 is just a criminal. Undertone is 33.
Speaker: Undertone is 33. No, no way. Yeah, we're talk about Undertone. cause we've got some 2026 quick facts about the science of scare. So Sinister 2012 is the scientifically scariest movie of all time, holding on to the top spot for the fourth year in a row with a scare score of 96.
Speaker: Zach Krager's Resident Evil delivered the biggest jump scare we've ever recorded at 134 BPM. um I don't know. I don't know what part that is. Did you watch Hitachi? Yeah.
Speaker: What part is that? I have no idea.
Speaker: I was trying to think and I was like... Some guy felt his stomach tear and thought he was going to poop his pants. He jumped to 134 and they're like, oh, the science of the movie.
Speaker: It's got to be the first act. It's got to be. Yeah. Fun movie. I just don't know i just don't know where. Yeah. Undertone is the scariest new film of 2026 at spot number 33, tying with Skinner Rink for the biggest stress response we've ever recorded. I think it should tie with Skinner Rink for worst movie I've ever seen in my life.
Speaker: If you're scared by Undertone, seek help. Because I don't think you can function in this world properly. That movie sucks. It was like the least scary. It was like, oh, here we we're going to play nursery rhymes backwards. it's like We play it backwards. It's like, the devil is real. And he said, twinkle, twinkle, little star. ah Out of 15 new releases this year, only five managed to crack the top 50, including box office hits, obsession, and backrooms.
Speaker: Did we ever talk about backrooms? Did we own it? We did an episode on it. Yeah, we did. Go listen to it. Listener. Do you think they've ever measured like Naroy the curse?
Speaker: Yeah, no, I don't know what their what their data set is here. I would. So I have a lot of friends. I feel like I always ask this like I'm about like, oh, do you like scary movies? Like a lot of times like no, no, no.
Speaker: And I would love to show some of the people that I don't, that I know that I that don't like scary movies. I'd love to show them something like Naroya the Curse. It's like, here's a scary movie. Like, what think?
Speaker: Like, are you scared by this? Because I watched it and I remember there's a lot of parts that like really creeped to me out. I think what makes that movie is the atmosphere. There's some good jump scares in it that are like kind of anti-jump scares.
Speaker: But I would want to know, like, is this kind of not traditional scary movie? Like, how do you feel about this? I think it might make, I think it might cause nightmares.
Speaker: When is the last, what is the last movie that you guys were like truly scared in or uncomfortable
Speaker: Cause I've noticed like now, like I can enjoy a horror movie, but I feel like it's been a while since something has like truly gotten under my skin and it's hard for me to recall. and it's like, but I chased that feeling.
Speaker: Like I want to like find something that like really like gets me that feeling, but I, it's, it's kind of hard to, to find it. It may have been about a place in the kinky region.
Speaker: But I don't know if that was me just getting super hyped because it felt like Naroy the Curse and I was locking in. And if it's not that, it's probably The Exorcist when we recorded it two or last year.
Speaker: That's a good answer.
Speaker: I think mine would be
Speaker: Barbarian? yeah really there there are one or two parts in barbarian that really freaks me out same but in the first thing that came to mind was hereditary but that will always come to mind first yeah for first thing the the one that comes to mind for me is is the witch um i know that's not the last time it happened but it's it's like hall of fame for me when black phillips starts talking Like, i that's I feel like that's the feeling I've been chasing. like i was like Like, I don't know what's wrong with me, but that's that's what I'm looking for. I know i know this is going to be one of two times that I bring this up, but Malik, were you the person that I wrote on their whiteboard at the place we used to work together?
Speaker: Was it you that I wrote, What's Thou Like to Live Deliciously on Your Whiteboard? No, no, it it it wasn't me. was someone else, but you've told you've told that story before. Yeah. Yeah. Because someone someone had recently watched that movie, like the night before or something, and then you went to their whiteboard and wrote that cause because you're mean.
Speaker: they were They got really scared. and I'm like, it was clearly not the goat. Well, it was the goat. It was the goat. I mean, come on. Hey. did release um a Black Phillip butter holder for the 10-year anniversary yesterday, and I won it.
Speaker: Buy it. Okay, I will. You guys ready to talk about some documentaries? Oh, go ahead, Tachi. One more frontrunner, Obsession. That freaked me out a lot. As far as newer movies go.
Speaker: I do like Obsession. It might be Obsession, actually. But in a different kind of way. yeah yeah Yeah. I do remember all of us in the theater going, like, stop.
Speaker: The steering wheel scene for sure. Alright, let's get to the movies. Ghost Adventures. Here's the synopsis. In 2007, the sci-fi channel premiered Ghost Adventures, a raw documentary in which three men go to Virginia City, Nevada, and Goldfield, Nevada on a ghost hunting expedition.
Speaker: Virginia City is rife with macabre lore and reputed to be one of the most haunted cities in America. ah From my understanding, this is the the documentary that kicked the whole thing off. um It is. Obviously starring Zach, Nick, and Aaron of Ghost Adventures fame. We'll do our letterbox of Black Loth and talk about our documentary, Who's Got Our Five Star?
Speaker: ah Before we do that, I mean, why did we pick documentaries? Is it just because Elizabeth Holmes made documentaries seem really relevant? I think so.
Speaker: Yeah. I'm not really sure. Yeah, I mean, it was an interesting ah leg for us to choose, especially our timing was great because we picked two allegedly or documentaries that depict allegedly real events um right as a documentary is coming out that is claiming that they have proof that the infamous Patterson-Gimlin Bigfoot footage, like the very iconic one, is fake.
Speaker: yeah And they have like a test run of it, like the test footage. Now, I haven't seen the documentary. I've kind of read like the the cliff notes of it, and I have seen the summary, but I did think it was very advantageous that ah we we decided do documentaries at this time.
Speaker: I don't know. Maybe we were meant to. and Maybe the spirits were guiding us. Maybe. um Letterboxd, these are both pretty low-watched movies, so would recommend people to check them out and then come listen to this episode, for sure.
Speaker: Yeah, the the Ghost Adventures documentary specifically is is pretty hard to track down. Why is that? I don't know. It's not on. like The show is on a ton of stuff.
Speaker: The documentary, as far as Letterboxd was concerned, says it's on Discovery+, plus and that's it. I saw an HD version of this. The first time I saw it, HD version. It was streaming on Netflix.
Speaker: That was the last time I ever saw it in any sort of watchable quality on a television. Must have been nice. Yeah. Did we all watch it via the link in the Google Doc on Vimeo? Okay. Yeah. It was like a 480p link um made up of about 8 pixels, 10 at most.
Speaker: um Let's discuss it. Let's just hop into it. Okay, cool. Let's do our 5-3-1 stars. I'm on five-star duty today. um i have one serious one and one joking one, because why not? It's Halloween.
Speaker: Our serious one comes from D.FayNets8. And
Speaker: and it's been a long time since i watched this originally and it still gave me chills a couple of times and our joke view comes from Snowflake, star, star, star, heart, marzipan, heart, star, star, star, snowflake.
Speaker: Zach Bagans bursts in, dick swinging, guns a-blazing, trying to fistfight ghosts, then ends up shaking, crying, and throwing up. This show is my toxic trait.
Speaker: True. Thanks, snowflake. All right, this three-star comes in from Nason, like Jason, but with an N. Why does Zach say everything like he's bullying his homeroom teacher?
Speaker: That's a big part of this movie, actually. it is um Today's one star comes in from Gabriel Scott. Slim Richie is my favorite ghost adventurer.
Speaker: I'm excited to talk about Slim Richie. Okay.
Speaker: Ghost Adventures. Do you guys watch? I think i think it's only Alex that like big watches the show. Big fan. Guiltiest pleasure. This is the first thing I've ever seen. yeah um If you're going to watch it, I would say like seasons one through six are its peak.
Speaker: It's gone very downhill for a lot of reasons. The most recent season I watched was kind of really boring. like and there's there are there's There's a reason kind of behind that.
Speaker: um which we'll get into in a little bit. But yeah, one through six is is genuinely like, there's some good stuff there.
Speaker: And there's some good stuff in the later seasons, you know, but it's, it's Zach, Nick and Aaron. So it's the same three from this, from this documentary. And it's pretty much just them every now and then there's like another person along, but especially those early seasons, it was literally just them at every shoot.
Speaker: which I think lends a little bit more credibility to them compared to some of the other ghost hunting crews. So... um I remember it was Travel Channel or Sci-Fi that had Ghost Hunters, which were based the Northeast.
Speaker: And they were rolling up to every location, maybe like 10 to 15 deep. That's how I would need to do it. I need bodies around me. I need an army. It's crazy.
Speaker: But no, I am a fan of this show. i have been for a long time. Know a lot of the lore. But this ah it actually took me a while to watch this one. it was Yeah, I was going to ask, what was the when was the first time that you watched this documentary?
Speaker: I want to say it was college when I first saw it. I want to say I was in college because I remember like...
Speaker: i think it was early college too. i remember watching and being like absolutely stupefied and calling like everyone I knew about it. was like, this is actually crazy. Yeah.
Speaker: But i want to say, or maybe like very late high school, but it was well after I had started watching the show. They like referenced it in one episode and I was like, wait, the what? um And then I went and found it and watched the whole thing and was like, oh, this is, this is like, yeah, this is way different than everything else.
Speaker: So this was released in 2007.
Speaker: I'm assuming this kind of kicks off the phenomena of ah like main like ghost hunting in its mainstream form. i'm assuming It got them the show.
Speaker: it got It got them the show, but like i'm on like if before this, was there any other type of like notable ghost hunters out there, or they were they like the ones to bring it to the to the to the public persona? It was kind of niche, so...
Speaker: Yeah, they were at the forefront of it. as I mean, as far as I can tell, like I'm sure there were programs that ran it. I mean, like Ghostwatch, you know, obviously it was fake. But and it yeah was like a state it was completely staged. But I mean, that kind of thing had been in the consciousness enough for them to make that movie.
Speaker: And people tuned in and watched it like thinking it was real. So it must have been out there, but maybe not to like the massive degree that we see it now. Because I feel like there's like it's very oversaturated now, which is unfortunate. Because um there's one there's some when we get kind of further into the documentary, I'll talk about a little more.
Speaker: um Just about like the vibes of it. But... Yeah. Cool. They were, this was kind of the kickstart. Yeah. What did we think of it? We think about the documentary.
Speaker: Let's not wait. You two money. It was good. It was a little blurry. but um No, I had a good time. i want to know more about kind of the science behind like what they're trying to measure, what they're trying to find, like how much of their truth of ghosts can can really be found in these like orbs.
Speaker: Like how likely is it to just be dust? So I'll talk about some of that. I want to talk about some of the tropes in ghost hunting shows that appear in this documentary as well.
Speaker: um Feelings, temperature changes, like, well it's cold or I'm hot or something. Orbs, EVPs, disembodied noises. These are just the ones that kind of up appear in this. In later ghost hunting shows, like yeah EMF readings, where they magic or like a...
Speaker: where they measure like electromagnetic fields, because some people theorize that ghosts give off that. um I'm not a big orb guy. um just I've never been a big orb guy.
Speaker: I think it's dust. I think nine times out of ten, it's dust. there's yeah There's one orb in this documentary where I was like, I'll give you that one. Yeah, but then there's another orb where I'm like, bro, that's literally dust. yeah yeah What are we talking about?
Speaker: um But there is genuinely, there is one orb in this where i was like, Okay, I'll hear you. yeah um But other than that, in this one, they're just filming and recording.
Speaker: They're not like really like doing any of the other measurements. like It truly felt like when I was in, and I do have a very, very funny ghost hunting story that I will tell after we finish talking about ghost adventures.
Speaker: But it felt like something I made in the eighth grade, where it's like, we're going to take a camera and we're just gonna see what happens. Yeah. um But... You know, so for me, it's like... Walking into this documentary, I was like, okay, this is really early in their career, and it's genuinely three dudes.
Speaker: Not even for half of it. It's two of them. It's Zach and Nick in the second half of the documentary. Aaron just completely disappears. Yeah, bro was not having it He was like, I'm out. Aaron completely disappears. And...
Speaker: um
Speaker: Yes, it's like, okay, like what are they going to capture? like What audio and what visuals are they going to capture? And I think they get less than you'd think for a feature-length documentary.
Speaker: But there's a couple in here where i was like, I want to talk to the guys about this. like Let's see what they think. Yeah. Yeah, overall, um honestly, ah a big thought that I had was like,
Speaker: Even though the ah the quality was kind of hard to see and you can physically count pixels on the screen and everything like that. There's just something that felt so authentic about just three dudes with a camera going out into this haunted town in the middle of the night in a cemetery.
Speaker: That had a very nostalgic feeling to it. To the point where I'm like, after the movie, I'm like, this is going to be like a lost art. Like in the age of AI and all of these advancements in technology, like we can't like we can't do this. Like there was a point in time where and we'll see where we stand on like ghosts or their experience, like with this documentary, if we think things are real or hoaxed or anything like that. But like you couldn't do something like this today.
Speaker: and evoke that feeling from even like a good percentage of people. So it really feels like a time capsule, and for that, I really appreciated it. um Yeah, there were a couple of moments in this where i'm like, I'm a little iffy, but then a couple that also had me like kind of scared. like There were some moments, like I watched this like last night like in our room, completely dark, and there were a couple points where I went,
Speaker: where i just like I couldn't believe what I was saying. But we should yeah we should run through some of the locations that they go through in this documentary and then we'll kind of see how each of us feel about the validity of that um and their experience overall starting off with in Virginia City with the Silver Queen um at a motel. Is that correct?
Speaker: It's like a hotel. Yeah. But it's like a very old hotel in Virginia City. that they claimed was haunted by someone one who had killed themselves in room 11.
Speaker: How'd you guys feel about this, this particular sequence? I think what stands out to me the most about this one is I do love how immediately they just hop into it. Like we're in Virginia city.
Speaker: I love Zach trying to be like a reporter where he's like, ah like she's not telling us the whole story. Yeah. The the one thing to note about Zach, and this is coming from a place of like love for the dude, I mean, he's gotten like, he's like a genuine kind of like celebrity now. I mean...
Speaker: This is way different that like, he's way different now than I think he is in in this, this documentary, but he is so awkward and I love it. It's so endearing. Like he's so wholesome.
Speaker: He's like, just, he's like, I don't think she's telling us the full story. Um, and I don't know if she is or not, but you know what? Like I'm intrigued.
Speaker: Um, So to what they do next is they go into room 11 and they they spend the night in the room. Well, Zach and Nick do. Aaron sleeps in the car.
Speaker: it seems That seems worse to me for some reason. Aaron slept in the car. um And they capture here in this one orbs, which no one cares.
Speaker: um heydo But the big piece of evidence in this one was the mist and the knock on the door.
Speaker: And I go, meh.
Speaker: Yeah, that's kind of my feeling on it. Yeah. yeah i I don't know. i just i it i I don't know if it's an artifact or not. like The knock is there. You can hear it.
Speaker: But it's the mist where it's very coincidental. So I can see why it was like picked up and included. Yeah.
Speaker: But, yeah, the knock on the door, I was just like, okay, like, all right, continue. king
Speaker: Yeah, I would agree. This movie just felt so back-loaded when it comes to, what what was the term used? Artifacts? Yeah. Okay. Just like any...
Speaker: I don't know how you would define it, just like any sort of metaphysical evidence of something of a different plane of existence. I don't know.
Speaker: Yeah, it's all it's all kind of in the in the second part. One part that I did think was funny, I think it's Zach. I'm going to get their names mixed up because I couldn't really make out faces or like.
Speaker: so i didn't know the names i didn't know who was who zach zach's the like the main guy with the chiseled jaw okay nick is the dude with like the slick hair and like the this thing going on and aaron was the other guy I knew who Aaron was just because he left.
Speaker: he Yeah, he was. Yeah, he was the most scared. um I think Zach is in the bathtub where the suicide had happened and he calls it out. He's like, lady, I'm in the bathtub. Are you pissed?
Speaker: That is that's what he he loves to like challenge the ghosts. And so other ghosts, I could see that like paranormal investigators like hate him for it. He gets called out a lot for that. It's like he's antagonizing. It's not valid. And I'm like,
Speaker: Are there rules to this? Like, it's not like we're hunting animals here and it's like, yeah, but you humanely like you inhumanely killed an animal. OK, yeah, that's bad. I think you want the reaction of whatever you're hunting. So call him a coward.
Speaker: Do it. um But yeah, that that that is a classic Zack trope. I mean, especially in the early seasons, it later on, he kind of totes off of it. But it really gets at its worst when he's at his swollest.
Speaker: Then he gets really bold. he gets big? Nice. He gets that confidence. He's top five people I want to meet in person, like celebrities. I didn't think I was going to be able to wear these glasses for this episode. And it is kind of a struggle.
Speaker: um But I can see and I can read. But it's getting hot. Our next. how do we want to How do we want to divvy this up? oh well I mean, I guess it does go in actual order. um Yeah, I think like the the the hotel, the cemetery, and then the Miner's Cabin. Yeah, the Miner's Cabin. And then the Goldfield Hotel.
Speaker: they They actually stop at the Miner's Cabin before they do the Old Washoe Club, and they set up some stuff there, and they then they go back to the Old Washoe Club. The Old Washoe Club is like a saloon in Virginia City.
Speaker: ah Very, very famous haunted location. i mean, part of it has to do with what happened here, like imminently what we're going to discuss. And... um it's ah But it's it's one of like it's a very haunted location you know in in Nevada and you know around the around the U.S. So what happens here is this one, we capture full-body apparition.
Speaker: And I say full-body. In the HD version I saw, it's legs. It's a pair of legs. um You can kind of see the torso and head, but like the the defining feature is the legs moving.
Speaker: And even on our copy that we watched, it was the legs that I could make out. You could see them going across, especially when they were replaying it Yeah, I felt like I could see the torso. like That one straight up did feel like pixels moving, but I'm like, those are very specific pixels moving, and I don't like it. No, so the way he talks about it with like the opaqueness and the light and how it doesn't like really obscure it, like that in HD, I promise that one holds up.
Speaker: And i remember the first time I saw it, remember being genuinely like, whoa, like what is that? That's one of the moments where I was kind of freaked. That's when I kind of locked in. don't want to see anything that believe. Well, and for me, the thing is with this, and know we're going to talk about it later, but part of why I really love and come back to this specific documentary a lot compared to some of the other episodes of Ghost Adventures or later seasons or things like that is this feels...
Speaker: I think about as authentic as you can get in this genre, we're taking them at their word that this is a true documentary, right? And, you know there's arguments that can go both ways.
Speaker: But I really don't think Zach and Nick and Aaron had the capacity at this point in their lives to fake that torso walking through.
Speaker: Especially on, like, a film camera. Digital, like, sure. But they were shooting this all on film. No, they were shooting on digital. i thought they were shooting on film. I thought you could hear it like whirring and... it I mean, because they the... It was digital because they have the camcorders and they're like looking down at the LCD screens.
Speaker: There was at one point where I thought they mentioned on film. On like the film we had. but But either way, the budget was super low. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker: um The budget was super low, and even then, and like even to fake it on digital, I think you would have had a... I don't know. It would have taken some... I think at the time, some some pretty good special effects work to make it look that legit. I mean, this is like 07. They probably filmed it like 05, 06.
Speaker: Yeah. um I mean, they take the time to take the video to some guy named Slim Richie. Our boy. Our boy, to analyze the video, to... basically show with this like what seems at this point like archaic technology um to establish the validity of this is real or not and he was showing i don't know what kind of technology he was using but like it looked like the world's first computer it was like massive he's like if you see these two waves if that went up that means it's fake but it didn't move so it's real i i'm slimmer chene i approve of this message and i was like i hope he comes back i like slimmer it's pretty real guy was awesome
Speaker: um But yeah, so this was where this, i remember watching this for the first time as was thinking this where i walked in. I'm like, okay, like they cook something here. This is obviously good enough to have gotten them a TV show.
Speaker: This was screened at like the New York Independent Film Festival and it won the grand jury prize for documentary. Whoa. Yeah. But I don't know how big the New York Independent Film Festival is.
Speaker: um But someone there, it was it was clearly like, this It was like, okay, they have something here. This is clearly like enough to get them a show. like What else happens at this point? When I first watched it, remember thinking, okay, what's coming next?
Speaker: The Goldfield Hotel. We're getting there. the The cemetery. The cemetery. um One of my favorite parts was when they run into the guy.
Speaker: oh i like they're like They're like, and then we found some strange guy walking around at night and there was just some dude in the middle of the cemetery. That's freaky. That is freaky.
Speaker: It's not even the first time they have like an interaction like that too. That's the grabber. That was him. His first iteration. And like, ah dear listener, we're not even making this up They're literally like, we found this strange guy walking around. Like they literally call him a strange guy. He's got like a ponytail. Like he's like that mid 2000s, like ponytail sandals guy.
Speaker: Yeah. He's like, yeah, man, it's ghost hunters. And they, they ran away and they never came back.
Speaker: I don't ever need to be in any of these situations, especially not like a cemetery at night. Uh, we'll get some more orbs and these ones I'm like, okay. It's dust.
Speaker: Yeah. these ones seem these are These ones seem less like dust. Like, if orbs were to be real. The lights, yeah. The lights, yeah. the or Especially, like, when they go and it's just, like, the lone cemetery head or whatever just kind of ah if often sewn instead of grouped together. I'm like, that's that's kind of freaky. Yeah, that was weird.
Speaker: Yeah, but they didn't get, like, much else um at the cemetery. Something happens. Like, I think Zack's shirt... Gets pulled. it's This part was really hard to see like on the camera, even on even on the playback. he he like Whenever they get touched, that's one of my least favorite things. like I got touched. I got touched. and It's like, okay, you but you can just say that. You can just say that. um and so you know i I will give him the feeling thing.
Speaker: Because there have been like a very select few times in my life where I've been to like somewhere where you really feel off. And it's like you really feel off. Yep.
Speaker: I'll take a little bit of time here to do a story because it is kind of creepy and we can we can interject these in this pod because that's what Holloway is for. um
Speaker: There's two spots in recent memory that I've been that are like, extreme like I felt off, like I was not supposed to be there. ah One of them was like the woods of West Virginia, very rural West Virginia. The whole time I was there, everyone I met was very friendly, didn't really have a bad experience. But even before someone told me to watch out for hillbillies in the woods, I felt like I was being watched the whole time.
Speaker: And I remember thinking, like, man, you hear the stories about this place, and it's like, I can see why people think that, because this place is, it just feels wrong. And it was on a trip, and I never got it on the trip. And I was in like, rural Oklahoma, rural Idaho, rural Arkansas. Like, I never felt that again at one point the entire trip.
Speaker: the The second place is in East Texas, in this town in East Texas. Yeah. I got a buddy whose family lives out there. I've gone out there a couple times. And at this place, there was a woman who died in a very strange circumstance. Very weird. she I won't really go into details of it, just because like I don't know how public the story is. So I'm going to respect that. um ah But it's ah it's a very weird circumstance.
Speaker: And the house is still there, and it's unoccupied, and i can't look at it. I cannot look at that place. I literally will drive by it at night on the way to his family's place, and I can't look at it. you like just I just i can't do it. It's very weird.
Speaker: um And I've been to places where, like, really bad things have happened, and I didn't really, like, feel that. Like, yeah I never got that feeling walking around UT's campus, you know, at the base of the tower where, you know, people died in the the tower shooting. You know, we had a student, unfortunately, get murdered on campus ah when I was a freshman, and I saw them working on the body, like, the EMTs trying to resuscitate him in front of Gregory Gymnasium.
Speaker: And i it took me like a little bit, but I could like or go around there and go into the gym using that entrance and not like feel that way. um so it's very weird. like it's very It's just a very odd feeling. i don't really know how to describe it other than and then like you feel like it feels wrong to be here. like Your sixth sense is telling you to get out.
Speaker: So i will I will give them the feeling thing, but the touch thing, I don't i don't know. That's a hard one for me. Yeah, did same. I'd have to agree. And I think this is a story I told in our last Halloween episode.
Speaker: So if you haven't heard it, listener, please go back and listen. But yeah, like when I was in that moment, when i heard the sound for the first time that, you know, something might have been in the house with me, like my my fight or flight just was blaring. And I just knew that something was was off. So i agree there with the feeling part.
Speaker: It feels wrong and it feels like you need to run. Hmm. <unk> That's creepy. Yeah. Don't like that.
Speaker: So the miners cabin, they don't run. They keep going on their journey and they ended up at the miners cabin. This part I thought was okay. I thought the story, like the backstory was, was really interesting. Um, but this is where Aaron is like really freaking out, right? Like they leave the tape recorder, um, and then they come back and then there's, there's some type of interference on the tape recorder.
Speaker: Uh, I, I forget what they thought they heard on it, but something like, like, is this the devil? Oh, that's right. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Which I would freak out if I... Yeah, and that's when yeah Aaron was just like, all right, bro, I'm out.
Speaker: He did not blame him. Yeah, i don't blame him either. But Zach makes him stay until the next the next outing that they go on. And then he's like, ah I'm sick. i can't go. I'm sorry. mean,
Speaker: he locked in enough to do a show with them, so... Yeah, yeah. Good on Aaron, but yeah, I mean, I don't really blame him. You know, as as someone, you know growing up Catholic, I'm Catholic, if I got a recording that sounded like the devil is here or something to that effect.
Speaker: Oh, boy. I'd say, actually, gotta go. Thanks for stopping by, Mr. Satan, but I'll go somewhere else.
Speaker: I will not take what you are selling, Satan. No, thanks. So then they end up on the news. Good for them. Good for them. They ended up on local Nevada news showing this and walking through people or walking people through, you know.
Speaker: Walking through people. Yeah, that's what ghosts do, right? Walking people through like what they got. But I want to say that like, if feel first of all, a lot of the editing in this is just really janky.
Speaker: It's all over the place. Yeah. This is a very home homemade documentary. I think another credence to the authentic like the authenticness of it is, oh boy, is this edited weird.
Speaker: like and it's not edited well. There's not a lot of skill that went into to making this one. yeah But it feels like the documentary was supposed to end after the news bit.
Speaker: And then they're like, anyway, we got a phone call, and so we're going to go to Goldfield, Nevada, and go to this hotel.
Speaker: And I think for me, this is it upon rewatches, this is where like this thing cranks it up. Yep. This is when it gets really good. This the Goldfield Hotel is like the scariest building I've ever seen. It was some really creepy people living. right. I guess she's not creepy. You got to look it up. You got to look up where this place is.
Speaker: It's just out there the va in the middle of absolute nowhere. And then there's a house 100 yards away from it. Yep. Hmm. I mean, it's just, it's there and it's, it's still there.
Speaker: Yeah. Like, I think last time I saw it when it's ah for sale for 4 million in 2022, um, they're always trying to sell this place and and renovate it and i don't think it's going to work.
Speaker: Tell. Tear it down. no Um, So they get to the documentary. or they Yeah, they get to the documentary. Yeah, you got to cut that bit. um So they get to they get to the Goldfield Hotel, and they they start exploring the history of it, and they meet this lady who is a caretaker of the building as well as the owner.
Speaker: And they kind of walk them through the history, and then they they go on their lockdown. It's just Zach and Nick, and for the start of it, it's just this woman, Virginia, as well. I think this is one of the weaker parts of the documentary is where she's like doing the seance with them and says ah like, oh, I'm Bobby. like Bobby.
Speaker: Yeah, I would agree. um I was I didn't fall asleep, but this is where I kind of lost interest. And there were a couple parts I felt myself like.
Speaker: But then. But then they like see like a figure in the corner to jump ahead a little bit, and then it kind of perked me back up, and I was like, all right, now I'm When she leaves, when Virginia leaves, they do capture an EVP, and it it says, like, no.
Speaker: That sounds kind of weird. But when she leaves, this thing is just, it's it's, if they fake this, I'm going to say this, this is the best found footage movie of all time. If this is fake, this is the best found footage movie of all time.
Speaker: Flat out. They're geniuses. Our chores. Yeah. This is such a scary piece of media. Yeah. Because you are literally following them around. um Oh, and this is why I thought it was on film.
Speaker: The sound of the tape recorder rewinding. I thought it was a tape. Oh, okay. because it e like um That's why I thought it was a tape recorder.
Speaker: You're watching them walk around and film, and they see this shadow, and they keep hearing noises. and they actually review evidence in real time of this shadow, and it does really look like one is moving in the corner. to i couldn't this one i couldn't really make out i don't know if tachi maybe you struggled with with seeing it but like i was really trying like i even like rewinded it a couple times and i was like i don't see what they're what they're seeing like it was the exact you can see it better when there's double the pixels but there is like a shape and it like slips
Speaker: I had to pause and rewind a few times to to catch it, but there is something in in the way that we watched it to to kind of see it. But um yeah, it was freaky once I could actually kind of see the the shape of it.
Speaker: what What sold me on it was was their reactions. Like i fully believed them in what they saw, especially because it aligned to something that Virginia had told them earlier. Yeah, the gunslinger.
Speaker: Yeah. Mm-hmm. And then they get the bright idea to go to the basement, which is supposed to be like the most haunted place in the whole hotel. course. When I first saw this, I actually, like, straight up, metaphorically, not actually straight up, like, crap my pants.
Speaker: There is no piece of ghost hunting media that has shocked me like this sequence. Yeah. of them Especially, or sorry, go ahead. Stumbling and bumbling around in the dark and they round the corner and a brick picks up off the ground and flies through the air.
Speaker: Yep.
Speaker: I didn't notice the brick at first until the replays, but what got me was... The whatever little girl voice that was clear as day. I hated that so much. went, I, oh my God. Because that was like right before the break, right?
Speaker: Yeah. It was like, and then everything kind of just like, it was just like the three seconds pure. It was either, it was either right before or right after, but it was like five seconds of like pure chaos to where Nick and Zach get separated.
Speaker: And then it's the first voice. Yeah, it's after the break. it felt like ah It felt like a movie. And then you could hear someone like calling for Nick, and then you could hear him calling for Zach. And I'm like, where where did you guys go? Why are you this separate? It's a really creative choice.
Speaker: It felt very Blair Witchy. yeah It was very Blair Witchy. Yeah. That voice that voice legit like freaked me out. And, I mean, they are screaming.
Speaker: These two are, like, they're not good actors. Like, you can just tell. Like, they're so stiff in the show, and, like, you know, there they're kind of awkward in front of the camera, even in the show, and they are absolutely losing their mind when this happens.
Speaker: I mean, and the first time I saw it, was right there with them. I was like, are you kidding me? Um... But the girl the little girl's voice, every time I watch this, I always forget about it.
Speaker: And every time at the end where he's alone and you can hear Nick and then you hear it and then he screams and it cuts. Yeah. Oh, my gosh. I rewinded the the the little girl voice a couple times because was like, I can't believe this.
Speaker: Yeah, that was nuts. This is crazy. I don't blame them for this, but... They're really bad communicators, and I don't know how much of that was intentional, but like anytime they were giving each other instructions, the other person just never listened.
Speaker: Yeah. He's like, move out of the way. What? Move. My favorite bit is they go, like I'm not scared of you. or They're in the basement right before the brick is thrown. like, i'm not scared of you.
Speaker: He's like, Nick, go in there first. Yeah.
Speaker: i think um I feel like that's like a fear response where it's like they're both trying to like work through it and neither one is in a place where they're like, I have to just do what my body tells me to do. Yeah. that's how I could not do this.
Speaker: How much money to stay in the Goldfield Hotel for three hours for for you guys? I would do it for free. i i don't know that there's enough money in the world.
Speaker: to like get me to do something like this. Three hours. I don't think there's any amount of i don't think there's any amount of like therapy or or psychotherapy to like heal me if something happens to me.
Speaker: Like like when they talked about that one girl that got scars on her arms and like the camera was picked out of her hands or whatever. um If I was just in a dark house and I got scars on my arms.
Speaker: I
Speaker: I wouldn't make it very long. Yeah, i like I was genuinely kind of freaked out watching this last night where i was like, man, if my closet door opens right now, and I feel like it might, I'm going to be pissed.
Speaker: Do you want to hear something awful? Yes. I heard a disembodied voice this morning in the house. No, you didn't. I swear to God. Stop. No, you didn't. What did you hear? I woke up and I just i heard something in the the kitchen.
Speaker: I heard like it sound like, I don't know if it was someone outside or something, but I heard something. I was just like, today of all days. Can I hear this? It was really weird.
Speaker: It didn't happen again, but no, I did i did hear something this morning. and It was probably someone outside, but it just sounded like a like a little flip of like like a vocal stem of something some kind.
Speaker: very odd. I don't like. Well, they get to. Yeah, they get to some more disembodied voices um after they leave the hotel. I think they jump from the second story. They said jump off. He's like, you wouldn't you would have done the same thing if you were us. But we jumped from the second floor fire escape. And then Slim Richie comes back and shows us a breakdown of the throne brick. And I'm like, yeah, yeah.
Speaker: If they did fake that, kudos to them, but like that looks insane. the The only thing that I think, and like to be honest to like both sides, I think the only reason I think this may be fake is like the turn it does, where it like rotates and then goes. Because if you pulled it, and if it was attached to somewhere, that would happen.
Speaker: But you have you would have to do such a specific motion, I think, for... it to move the way it did, to go up and then down.
Speaker: And it doesn't look very natural, and it doesn't really look like it got yanked. It kind of just turns and goes, not like like a yank. um And then they do do the bit with like the ultraviolet, where if it was like there was nylon or fishing line, that they claimed that they could pick it up.
Speaker: um And the physicist thought that you would need a really strong rope to do it. So... I don't know. Like, I don't know if they if they did it and they got away with it, then kudos to them. But yeah, it's a very it's like a very unnatural motion.
Speaker: Yeah, and then it ends with ah other Ghost Hunter teams going to the Goldfield Hotel who claim to have gotten some some voices on ah on their recording devices, and they said they go back into the basement where Nick and Zach were talking about the incident that happened.
Speaker: Like, did you throw a brick? did you Did someone come down here and and make you mad or something like that or or hurt you? And the voice goes, thank you, but we've done it. And then also goes, didn't mean to hurt anybody.
Speaker: Yeah. Yeah. I don't really buy any of that. I don't buy that either.
Speaker: The brick was enough for me. Yes.
Speaker: Bricked up and in Goldfield, Nevada. Yeah. But I mean, overall, I did like this documentary and it's really cool that this is kind of what kicked off the whole Ghost Adventures series.
Speaker: um Good for them. You will never catch me doing any of this. Oh, you guys going to hate my bachelor party. ah And like that old lady said, she would never like ah mess around with a Ouija board, and I'm 100,000 billion percent on board.
Speaker: Same. Yeah. And then they're like, so we got a Ouija board. And I was like...
Speaker: I'd probably just heart this one for Letterboxd purposes. i don't know if I could rate it. Yeah. it's not really rateable. Yeah, but going back to like... live Okay.
Speaker: Going back to my like my earlier point where it feels like this is like, we just can't do anything like this now. I really appreciate it purely for that. Um, I don't know if I'll ever be the kind of person to be into like watching like ghost adventures. Like maybe i'll just like watch clips, but like, this is the most consecutive thing, um, that I've seen.
Speaker: There's a couple of weird things I wanted to call out and like the ghost adventures lore universe. Um, And there's two of them. It's Mark and Debbie Constantino, who I believe are the people recording the EVP at the end of the documentary. And they appear on later episodes of the show.
Speaker: um They were like this ghost this paranormal ghost hunting couple. um They were good friends of the show They were good friends of Zach. um he murdered her and then committed suicide. Oh.
Speaker: There was like a hostage situation. He took her hostage and killed himself. What Well, I think her roommate. Yeah. Like randomly. Very strange. Like a very, very strange thing. Like just psychotic break?
Speaker: i Yeah, I guess. um like the The story was that like she was abusing him or cheating on him or something, like and he just broke. that's i was I was reading about it earlier today. i mean, I knew that it happened, and there's even a Ghost Adventures episode where like they learn about that it happened.
Speaker: like Zach brings up, it's like, yeah, like right after this we heard about it. um But the other one has to do with Zach's other documentary, Demon House. which has to do with the house of the Amon's Haunting case, which is this possession case in Gary, Indiana. Zach ends up buying this house for $35,000 and doing a ghost hunting thing.
Speaker: and He gets so scared by his experiences in that house that he bulldozes the house.
Speaker: Me. um But after they investigated that, he got diagnosed with... Let me find the actual condition.
Speaker: It is diplopia,
Speaker: which is a simultaneous perception of two images of a single object that may be displaced in relation to each other. So like your eyes cross, I think. And so after this investigation, his eyes cross. They never uncross, and now he has to wear prism glasses so he can see correctly.
Speaker: Really? Yeah. um And the reason part—I—
Speaker: brought this up earlier part of the reason that the show i think has taken a step back is zach will not fly on a plane anymore he won't do it so they pretty much exclusively stay to the west coast for investigations and they've just run out of places um because his mom had a dream of him dying in a plane crash so he he won't do it Wow. Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah. He's got a... That's freaky. um He's got a museum in um in Las Vegas, like the Haunted Museum. I really want to go. There's apparently like ghost pictures and stuff that gets taken there. So one day when I'm in Vegas, I'll go. Um, and sometimes he'll be there, but so, earlier in this episode, i talked about an incident where, uh, I went ghost hunting and then something crazy happened on it. So this is a true story. This happened in, God, this must've been like the seventh or the eighth grade.
Speaker: Um, I was with one of my really, really good friends from home. Uh, my friend Ernie and, uh,
Speaker: you know We were staying in ah were staying at mine. he was staying over at mine. we're having a little sleepover. And we loved horror movies. We loved watching scary movies and scary YouTube videos of these sleepovers. We always wanted to be scared. Now, um I lived in this neighborhood that was like a beach neighborhood. And so for most of the year, it was pretty much empty because everyone used it as like a summer vacation spot.
Speaker: So there were really like maybe 25% of summer residents live there year round. And we were one of So walking around like the neighborhood, any other time a year was pretty empty. Um, there's this, uh, there's a, know, this community tennis court, not super far from my house. And behind it was this like water, this giant, well, this, this pumping station. And, uh, we, um, this pumping station and we, uh,
Speaker: we're like, we're going to go investigate ghosts there because they're absolutely are satanic rituals. And, um, so we, we go out, it's like one in the morning and we go out and, uh, we're armed with a video camera walk in and we're going and, um, it's like night, like,
Speaker: car would drive by we'd jump into a neighbor's bush or something. and So we finally we make it to the circle behind these tennis courts. And we go and walk around. And it's like, to its credit, it's genuinely a pretty creepy spot at night. There's this dirt road that leads back there. Or there was. I don't know what it looks like now.
Speaker: um And it was pretty creepy. you None of it was lit. you know um So we go back there and we're like, look at this ghost here. Can you please give us a sign of your presence? And there was nothing.
Speaker: um So we were, like, dejected. We turned the camera off, and we we we go back, and we're sitting on this bench by the road. We're like, man, I thought this was our big break. I thought we were going to catch ghost.
Speaker: It was 1 in the morning, like 12.30, 1 in the morning. And these three girls ride by on bicycles.
Speaker: And they, like, wave at us. Like, hey. like We're like, hey. Probably a little more shalant click, so, you know? and
Speaker: so we get the bright idea, like, oh, they must be going to a party. And do you want we know what they want at this party.
Speaker: Two middle school guys. So we start walking down this road. Now, this road connected the two neighborhoods, and it went over like a salt marsh. So there wasn't really many houses on this stretch of road.
Speaker: It was dark, nothing. So we're going, we're going. We're hearing, like, bugs and birds. It gets very quiet. And it's like, we're just walking. We're like, we're going to find these girls. It gets really quiet. And I hand on my heart.
Speaker: we hear a grown man scream, get in the car.
Speaker: So we look at each other and high tail, I mean, Olympic speed back to mine, Olympic 800 back to mine. We wake up my dad and we made him drive us around because we were convinced these girls just got murdered.
Speaker: We never found anything. And it was totally just their dad. Finding them out late at night, as any concerned parent would be. And he probably got really mad. but and Get in the car. It was just... he was he was It was very loud. I mean, he screamed. could see why it'd be freaky, though. But, yeah, so that was our ghost hunting mishap. No ghosts That's hilarious. But... um
Speaker: you know to to Actually, a nice little segue. um We have my dad on the podcast, because if you remember last year, we did our ghost hunting episode. we we I told his a UFO story poorly.
Speaker: apparently pretty poorly and uh we brought him on to tell it again to lead us into moment of contact which is our you know our next documentary about the the brazil virginia ufo incident but uh welcome to alex's dad our first guest on lost in the frame good Can you hear me?
Speaker: Yes. I can hear you. Okay. the Well, I'll give you a ghost story, too. This wasn't... I didn't see it. Well, first, i went first how before you begin.
Speaker: ahead. How scared were me and Ernie when we we burst into the the house after getting the car? Yeah, you were terrified. It was bad. But to this this is an interesting one when you talk about being freaked out. I went to West Point.
Speaker: And there's, when you're a ca idiot cadet, you have to take, you know, the honor code very seriously. You cannot lie, cheat, or steal, or tolerate those who do.
Speaker: And you get kicked out for violating that, at least you used to And so we lived in when I was there, we lived in the oldest barracks, which was called the divisions.
Speaker: And the way it was is each division, had four rooms on a floor and then they spiraled up and they were five stories. And you couldn't go from like the fifth floor of one division over to the fifth floor. And they actually had to go all the way down and up. So these were like really old barracks.
Speaker: And, you know, one day i was just a freshman. So you didn't have permission to talk or anything like that. We hear this scream. This guy screams in the bathrooms.
Speaker: And, you know, everybody kind of sticks there, even the plebs. We stuck our head out the door like, what the heck is happening? And there was a guy, he was a junior, and he was like pretty high ranking.
Speaker: He comes out of the bathroom with his towel and just like, oh, my God, oh, my God, oh, my God. And everybody's like, what happened? And he swears that he saw an old grad, like in full dress uniform, standing in the bathroom.
Speaker: There were like two shower stalls and a toilet. And he, when he was in the shower, he turned and he saw an old grad standing there, like in the midst of the steam.
Speaker: And he was like, what the heck? And the guy just kind of walked out. And when he came out of the shower, like the guy was gone. And there's a lot of stories that it's haunted, but I was on the floor. I was right there when it happened. I mean, I didn't see a ghost. Nothing came up, but pretty creepy grown man screaming, kind of like Alex there. But, uh, and, and West Point has like the other one they had, uh, that was kind of neat in the superintendent's house.
Speaker: The basement has like a ghost. And like when I was graduating a senior, you got to go for like a tour. And there's like a bed that every morning there's an imprint of a body that's formed.
Speaker: And they have people go and they watch and they've set up cameras, but there's always an imprint of someone laying in the bed. And there's a cutting board that has like a bloodstain that always feels wet.
Speaker: Oh. Like it's really kind of bizarre. And they say like, oh, the ghost of the the quarters 100 is what they call it. So kind of neat place. If you guys want to start ghost hunting, go up to West Point. We don't.
Speaker: Because probably is haunted. But anyway, my UFO story. So when I was a young lieutenant, you know, the first Gulf War happened. And there I was getting shipped off to Saudi Arabia.
Speaker: And we were going to fight the big, bad Iraqi army. And, um you know, we were kind of just stuck in the middle of the desert.
Speaker: And as we got closer to the, you know, the the start of the war, we actually were deployed up sort of near the border of Saudi Arabia and Iraq.
Speaker: But I mean, this is just like, you're in the desert. There's nothing there. No civilization, no towns nearby. I mean, just middle of the desert. And so it's like, I want to say probably like nine or 10 at night.
Speaker: And we're standing there and me and a couple other guys, we, you know, just, shooting the breeze like you do in boring non-combat combat.
Speaker: And we see these lights coming. And they're like sort of in this array. It almost looked like a triangle kind of setup. And they're coming and they seem really low.
Speaker: And we're watching them. and like We're like, what the heck is that? And it's flying like from the direction where a rack would be, you know, heading south over our head.
Speaker: And there's just absolutely no noise. And there's these lights and it obviously something's up there. You couldn't tell what it was because it was kind of dark and there wasn't that much starlight.
Speaker: But this thing's coming and it makes no noise. have a question, interjection. Have you ever encountered an aircraft, you know military or not, that made zero noise?
Speaker: No, it at first we thought it might be helicopters because it was flying really slow. Like it was really slow. And so we're thinking, oh, some helicopters, but no noise. And so it passed over us.
Speaker: And I don't know, it seemed like it was a couple hundred feet up, not that high, but you couldn't really see anything. you couldn't see the shape of anything, which was kind of weird. So we're all looking at each other and we're like, oh man, maybe that was like a stealth fighter.
Speaker: You know, because those were new. That was like coming out. We hadn't really seen one. And it was really bizarre. But then like two days later, they had, you know, some of the stealth fighters come.
Speaker: And guess what? They make noise. And, you know, the stealth is the radar cloaking, not the the noise of the aircraft. You can hear So to this day, and those guys that were with me were like, what the heck was that?
Speaker: because it wasn't helicopters, it wasn't an aircraft, it was flying too slow. Really bizarre. And I don't know. I mean, I didn't think it was little green men coming to get me at the time, but probably the strangest thing I've ever seen. Like the one thing in my life that I'm like, have no idea what that was. Unexplainable.
Speaker: Do you believe in aliens?
Speaker: Yeah. You know, math, I'm i'm a math teacher. And simple probability, man, there has to be life out there. There's just too much. Now, whether they kind of walk around and, you know, are on the earth, I don't know, but Mark Zuckerberg's about as close as we're ever going to get.
Speaker: we need to check him out i like that that's that's that's freaky alex did tap say the story last year but it's it's great to hear it directly from the source thank you for for telling us the story yeah glad i could chime in you guys have a great night we really appreciate much we are about to dive into moment of contact but we have another surprise for you a another listener submitted ufo story Unfortunately, we could not get this person on the podcast live like we did ah Papa Big Mike. um Shout Big Mike. But we're still so appreciative
Speaker: of of our listener for sharing this story with us and and giving us this audio. So Malik, don't you fire this bad boy up let's get listening to it.
Speaker: Here we go
Speaker: Here we go.
Speaker: 2016, my sister and I were driving home one evening in the fall. It was about 11 p.m. We grew up in a small town of less than 3,000 people, and our house is about 11 miles outside of town, but you have to go down a lot of county roads to get out to it. There's not a ton of people that live out there, and you know it's an unlit road. So you're you're really kind of in a remote area, I would say. And we're more than more than three-fourths of the way out to our house, and And now, you know, the road that we would drive down to get home, part of it's windy and, you know, the woods are on both sides of you. And other parts of it are open fields and hay meadows and stuff.
Speaker: So at this particular point of our drive, we had just come out of the woods, found some windy roads, and we're going down more of a straight shot at this point. And on both sides of us are hay meadows.
Speaker: And probably on 40, 45 miles per hour. So not not too fast, but kind of fast for a county road. Because it's one-lane road. And all a sudden, out of nowhere, light comes shooting across the sky from the left side, directly in front of us. Like through the windshield, we're looking at it. It's a little bit above eye level from the car.
Speaker: And we're still driving at this point, but is staying perfectly equal distance away from us. I stopped the car. We both look at each other. look back at this light and then it just shoots up directly into the sky. And it looked about like three lights or like ah a little bit of a string of lights, I would say. And it was pretty big, bigger than, you know, a regular drone that anyone would have. And at that time, drones weren't super popular or anything. So, and I, and it it was moving at such a quick speed that it just, it couldn't have been a drone. It wasn't moving like a drone. It moved directly across rather than, you know, at a tilt because know drones have, um, the blades and stuff. And you can kind of tell when it's moving quickly from left to right.
Speaker: And then as soon as we stopped and looked at each other and we looked back at it, it just shot and And it shot up at such a speed that I've never experienced anything else like that, really. And then we both were just stunned. We didn't really know what we had just seen. he told, you know, our parents and stuff and the other people. and We still don't know what we saw, but we think that it, I mean, the only, the only thing that it could be looking back at it is like possibly it was a drone, but it wouldn't have been a drone that a regular person on the street would have access to if it was.
Speaker: And I still haven't really seen any sort of consumer drones that move like this or look like it. It was very spooky. And, um, yeah, still, still don't know what it, what it was, but crazy.
Speaker: Damn crazy indeed. I want something like this to happen to me. I'm trying to insert myself in that memory. Yeah, me too.
Speaker: She spelled it out very well. I so I kind of know exactly where this story took place. um And that's like already like kind of a spooky area. It gets very dark where that was.
Speaker: it just makes so much sense setting wise. Yeah. It really does. um But no, it's a great recounting of it. I mean, because, yeah, I mean, you'd think it would be a drone, but drones, I feel like, didn't even become huge until I was almost done with college, probably. I feel like they weren't super common.
Speaker: um Kind of like a new thing, but that's a weird one. Super weird. I would much rather that type of situation than any type of ghost hunting.
Speaker: Agreed. Yeah, I was going to say, you like I want this to happen to you and not... Not an hour ago, you were being like, I will never, ever go to Goldfield, Nevada, ever. It's it's so different, though. like I would rather be like out driving like at night, like like her story, and then just see something, and then just be like, what the fuck was that?
Speaker: But like in the sky, like I don't want to... make difference What is the difference between seeing what could possibly be beings from another planet How is that really different from seeing a ghost?
Speaker: It's totally different. I think seeing a ghost would be less scary.
Speaker: Interesting. Where are you at with that, Timoney? you get what I mean? i think seeing an alien would be a lot less scary. Because at least we can exist in the same like dimension.
Speaker: like I can perceive it all the time if it's around. Like, I don't I wouldn't want to come face to face with an alien, especially if he's like a little mean guy. But like a light in the in the air that I just can't explain makes for a good story where it's like I don't want to be put in a predicament or a situation with the Ouija board with something knocking down cabinets and open cabinets, making shit fly out of them and forks flying everywhere. I don't want that.
Speaker: but I also don't want a close encounter. I want to be, I want ah a good distance encounter. i on a far encounter of the third kind. Yeah, a far encounter of some kind. yeah
Speaker: Well, the the story we're going to talk about next, the documentary we're going to talk about is certainly not a far encounter of some kind. I believe it is a close encounter of the fourth kind?
Speaker: think... third what is Third? What are the kinds? We did this in Disclosure Day and we forgot. Yeah. Because they open up um God. that other His other movie.
Speaker: Drawing a blank. with talking one the The old one. with like The first kind is this. And the second kind is this. Is it is it Close Encounters? It is Close Encounters. Bro.
Speaker: Take away my mic. okay I know what i know the third kind is. The third kind is like Maybe I don't. All I know is the fourth kind is abduction. That's what the fourth kind is.
Speaker: Third kind is contact.
Speaker: Second kind is texting. And first kind is Facebook friends. right, so... J. Allen Hynek scale for close encounters.
Speaker: um fun for like So J. Allen Hynek is one of like the eminent UFO, I guess. He was involved in project like the Air Force Project Blue Book, which I believe we talked about in the Disclosure Day episode. If you you don't really know what that is, it was the Air Force's initiative to investigate UFO sightings.
Speaker: um Deemed most of them to be bunk, but there were a handful of cases that they did not really have a conventional explanation or a top-secret classified explanation to hand wave away. with so this is the scale that hynek devise or devised with um or yet devised so close encounters of the first kind is nocturnal lights this is lights in the sky okay close encounters of this oh wait no No, never mind. I'm reading the wrong thing. No, am I? Okay, okay, here we go.
Speaker: So there's a six-fold classification, and I got turned around here. So you have nocturnal lights, daylight discs, radar visuals are the first three on the scale.
Speaker: The fourth thing on the scale is close encounters of the first kind. Visual sightings of an unidentified flying object seemingly less than 500 feet away that show an appreciable angular extension and considerable detail.
Speaker: So I guess my dad's story would probably be this one. It would be a close encounter of the first kind. Close encounters of the second kind is a UFO event in which a physical effect is alleged. This can be interference in the functioning of a vehicle electronic device.
Speaker: Some physical trace, like impressions in the ground, scorched, or otherwise affected vegetation, a chemical trace, animals reacting, or physiological effects such as paralysis, heat, or discomfort in the witness.
Speaker: And close encounters of the third kind are UFO encounters in which an animated entity is present. These include humanoids, robots, and humans who can be seen, who seem to be occupants or pilots of a UFO.
Speaker: There are, so in, after Heineck's death in 86, his colleague Jacques Vallée extended the classification by two steps, including fourth and fifth kind. So a close encounter the fourth kind is a UFO event in which a human is abducted by a UFO or its occupants.
Speaker: or occupants And a close encounter of a fifth kind is where an alien abductee receives some manner of physical effect from their close encounter, typically either healing or injury.
Speaker: Ooh. so So... If they if they touch you. I think this is a close encounter of the 3.5 kind. This movie? right Virginia, yeah.
Speaker: Yeah. Cool. Let's dive into it. Let's get into it Moment of Contact 2022, directed by James Fox. Not Jamie Foxx. That's a different guy. Here's the synopsis.
Speaker: An exploration of potential extraterrestrial encounters centered on a series of events in Virginia, Brazil in 1996. Residents reported seeing one or more strange creatures and a UFO crash.
Speaker: We'll treat this like normal, do our letterboxdove like loathe. Then we'll see. We'll see how we feel about the closing counters of the third kind. 3.5 kind. 3.5 kind.
Speaker: Five star, Alex. Our five star today for closing... Let's restart that.
Speaker: Our five-star today for Moment of Contact comes from Joey G. Joey G. An absolutely mind blow. A must-see for every person on Earth. I went in, know nothing, and came out a firm believer of this incident in Brazil in 1996. I'm shook after watch this.
Speaker: The reason it hasn't been heard about much is because so few witnesses have ever come forward until now. Go in open-minded and prepare to be changed.
Speaker: Mind blow sounds nice. Yeah. Our three star comes in from Bailey561. Makes me want to go to Brazil, find an alien, and give it a towel to help with that oily skin.
Speaker: Our one star comes from Nate Begay. Last time I'm taking a recommendation from an IG Reels creator.
Speaker: We're cooked, guys. We are not IG Reels creators. We're professionals. And I think you should go watch this movie and then listen to what we think about it.
Speaker: So what did we think about moment of contact? This is a first watch for all of us. ye Yep. Well, you suggested it. Where'd it come from? So I actually heard about this at the, the job that we used to work at.
Speaker: Um, someone came downstairs and said, there is a crazy episode of Rogan that you need to listen to now. I had never listened to a full episode of Joe Rogan at this point in time.
Speaker: Not once. And I was like, what? So I go upstairs, and it was like, I guess the upstairs floor was buzzing because people were going nuts about this episode.
Speaker: um They even watched this documentary in the office. Cool. Yeah. Busy day. It was a very busy day upstairs. There were many busy days upstairs on that third floor. Second floor was where, was where work was done. We were blue. col Um, so I heard about this and I listened to the Rogan episodes. The first time I had heard James Fox speak.
Speaker: So I had heard his name through a lot of the disclosure discourse that had been going up on up until this time. Um, This was 2022, so we were a little bit after the bit with the, you know, the the government was finally starting to talk about it. that There was this program, and this was UFO discussion was starting to hit the, the you know, main stage of discourse.
Speaker: so I'd heard the name James Fox along with guys like Lou Elizondo, as well as some of the more famous like the JL and Hynex, the Jacques Vallée's, and the work they had done.
Speaker: So these were names that were starting to crop up, and James Fox is one of them because he is probably like the preeminent documentarian in this subject.
Speaker: So I listened to the Rogan appearance, um and I thought, wow, that was a very interesting story. I had never heard of the Varginia incident up until that point in time. There were a lot of incidents that he touched on.
Speaker: I believe he's been on Rogan three times total. I had only listened to the one. However, however, driving to the Oklahoma game where we lost, I listened to his appearance is for his first appearance on the Julian Dory podcast.
Speaker: And unlike the Rogan episode covering Virginia, there's about five hours of content covering this one. Um, so I had known this story going in from those two podcasts and I really, really recommend his appearances on Julian.
Speaker: Um, just because he goes into such an incredible level of detail over that period of time. ah He has some later appearances on, on both Rogan and, and Julian Dory.
Speaker: But, um, yeah, those first two Julian appearances are absolutely fantastic. Uh, And i did there was one story i picked up. It did relate to movies in general. So I did want to tell it on the pod because it's funny. This is in, I think it's episode 113 of Julian Dory Podcast.
Speaker: um He was given a tip on a UFO story in in Zimbabwe in, I think it was the 90s. Allegedly in Zimbabwe, a UFO landed and two aliens got out and interacted with a group of school students.
Speaker: Wow. Yeah, look it up, Tachi. But the guy that told James Fox to go research this was some guy named Steven Spielberg.
Speaker: Oh my God, what? Yep. Yep. ah Because he had asked Spielberg for an interview and Spielberg was like, no, like, no. Like, I don't know who you are.
Speaker: But if you are doing documentaries, you should look into this case. And Varginha was a case, and he doesn't really talk about this in the the documentary itself, but he did not believe Varginha for years and years and years, like decades. And it wasn't until I believe he went to Brazil for a conference that someone he really respected was like,
Speaker: stop not looking into it. Like, I'm going to, like, we need to look into this. And he finally relented and and they really began to look into this story. Um, how do we want to do this? Should we run through like the rough timeline of events and then dive into the the documentary itself? Cause the documentary is a pretty linear like statement of facts.
Speaker: Yeah. And then we are are left to draw our own conclusions based on what we've seen. yeah,
Speaker: How do we want to go about that? Yeah, I think we could do that. um I feel like this is kind of perfectly broken up into three parts. The first part kind of being a brief history on UFO sightings in and around Brazil ah throughout throughout the last couple decades. They document from 1958 to 1996 of a few different happenings that that happened. so Best name of a town was Uba Duba.
Speaker: I liked Uba Duba. Ooba-duba. Good one. I was like, this is incredible. I got to go there. Oh, I have a joke. I have a joke with with Abu Dhabi.
Speaker: If I think of it, I'll tell you guys. I can't remember exactly what it was. Bro's cooking ramen in the kitchen right now. That actually sounds pretty good.
Speaker: um i mean, I want to get like you guys' general thoughts and feelings like after the movie. Do you believe that this incident happened and like where are you at with UFOs and did this sway you in in either direction?
Speaker: it's It's so hard to say but Like so many people feel about this movie, like to have so many people, so many different people corroborate very similar, if not the same details of this incident, it's it's kind of hard to just reject that and just ignore it.
Speaker: But on the other hand, some of the some of the details about this incident are a little unbelievable, especially some of the testimonies that we get from a handful of them.
Speaker: But um it it's really hard to strike that balance between what what sounds too fantastical and and what sounds believable from all the same people.
Speaker: I think an unexplained event happened here. And when you hear what the government said happened, you are absolutely going to think, yeah, it was probably aliens of some kind.
Speaker: Yeah, their little cover-up or whatever they said happened. i was like, that is the worst cover-up story I've ever heard. What are you talking about? Is it the official inquiry that's on Wikipedia?
Speaker: Yeah. All right. So before we hop into this, I'm going to read you guys, the viewers, the what Wikipedia says is the result of the official inquiry.
Speaker: this is the government's version of events. In 1997, an official inquiry led by the Brazilian military concluded that the young women had encountered a mentally unstable man.
Speaker: nicknamed Mudino.
Speaker: The commander of the 24th Military Police Battalion provided photographs of the man, saying that he probably has some mental disability and alleging that his physical characteristics match the description of the reported being.
Speaker: Further, he concluded that this strengthened the hypothesis that this citizen, probably being dirty due to heavy rains and seen crouching by a wall, was mistaken by the three terrified girls as a space creature.
Speaker: The head of the official inquiry also reported that the military trucks and personnel were performing routine duties on the night they were observed, stating the presence of the firefighters in Jardim Andere, the parking of army trucks in the vicinity of the concessionaire where their periodic maintenance would be carried out, and the departure of ESA vehicles were real facts, incorrectly interpreted as firefighters in the military participating in the capture and later transport of the alleged creature to Campinas.
Speaker: Yeah, i don't believe that for a second. That also doesn't explain any of the United States Air Force involvement. Yeah. or the whole bit where, and let's, before we start it, Malik, what were your thoughts on this?
Speaker: I agree with you, Tachi. um I'm very skeptical, I think, when it comes to things like this. I feel like there has to be aliens. like I don't know and as far as like what capacity have they come here, if they have, but like you hear these stories. i don't know if I'm gullible also, but like I'm watching this and I'm like,
Speaker: my god Yeah, yeah, for sure. Like I, like I found myself like not questioning anyone's stories. I'm just like fully believing them. So I'm trying to like, got to get Malik in front of some nine 11 documentaries. ah So I'm trying to like, like also come to terms with that and be like, maybe I should like be a little bit more skeptical sometimes, but I'm like all these different people and all these different stories that very closely align. I'm like, damn, did, did something actually happen here?
Speaker: And it's like the the entire city knows and they make ah they make it a point where it's like this was recent enough that like you have multiple people they can just pull off the street that either witness something themselves or know someone very close that witness something.
Speaker: And I'm always like, why would they lie? Unless like everyone's under like mass hysteria. Like what would be what would be the point, you know? Some people would seem that way. But yeah, that's good point.
Speaker: But overall, i did I did really like this. My thought, once the documentary ended, I was like, this should be a movie. Someone should make this story into a full-length feature film.
Speaker: And I think it could be pretty awesome. I know just the guy. Steven Spielberg. Imagine if he made this into a movie instead of slop closure slop. I mean, we got something we got something great with that. So a let's see him do it again.
Speaker: Sure.
Speaker: um I'm curious, Tachi, you mentioned that there's a couple stories that you think were a bit more fantastical. What were those stories? Primarily the guy who was crying in the grass.
Speaker: um It just seemed like his his description of of the whole event that he witnessed, I don't know. it It just didn't seem,
Speaker: I don't know. It was also, yeah, it didn't feel genuine and he was crying a lot, which was kind of throwing me off. And it happened so long ago that it doesn't really make sense for him to, to be feeling such powerful things.
Speaker: just because he's revisiting the area, which I'm sure done before. It first time had revisited. oh is it? Okay. yeah Yeah. Well, I don't know. I can't speak to someone's trauma, but it no just wasn't believable to me. And he was also never really that confident with with anything that he was describing.
Speaker: Wow. I kind of feel the opposite with him. I thought his was pretty impactful. I opposite, yeah. Really? Yeah. It was like the least convincing person that they interviewed to me. Like him? Go ahead.
Speaker: I think watching him slowly, like, like he's like he he seemed so distraught that like what he was seeing was very different. But then when he finally like pieced it together, like, oh, it's here, you could see him like rise to a level of emotion where it was like, yeah i kind of thought he was doubting himself for that whole sequence.
Speaker: And then he found it And then it's like, no, there it was. There was this place that he he had seen this happen. Now... I guess we should probably start talking about like these events instead of just dancing around it.
Speaker: So the the Virginia incident begins with an aircraft crashing into the ground near var Virginia, Brazil in 96. 96. Yeah. ninety six 96. Crashing into the ground near Virginia, Brazil.
Speaker: Multiple people see this thing going down. um including the the guy that we're talking about who leads James Fox and the crew to the site where he says he found the crashed vehicle and was then chased off by the Brazilian military.
Speaker: um There was a few farmers as well who said they saw it flying through the sky and they said it looked like a beleaguered vehicle. um So this this crashes and you know that This guy who was ah on the road, ironically enough, going to hang out with his friends to fly glider planes— so this is someone who is familiar with aircraft— um sees this crash, and he claims, and they both claim that it was cigar-shaped, and that it did not look like any conventional aircraft they had ever seen before in their life.
Speaker: And it was as big as— ah they both described it as like a small bus. They both describe as the size of a small bus. So this crashes. And at this point, we really have no idea what's going on or where this story is going.
Speaker: This is where we find our friend who leads us to the site and who breaks down in tears, kind of recounting the events with with James Fox and the crew.
Speaker: And Tachi hated him. I just wasn't buying what he's selling, but maybe I'm just broke. I don't know. I like that. The one thing that I was confused on is...
Speaker: why he hasn't talked about it or even gone back in in those 26 years. I don't know if they fully dive into that. But for a lot of these people, they're like, yeah, I haven't talked about this since since back then. I'm like, do you just move on? or That part i was ah I was a little confused on as to like why it had been so long that any of these people had had a conversation about it or even just like went to go visit these places just to just to see. Well, from from a general conversation, right? I mean, something that...
Speaker: you see a lot of in this community is witnesses being unwilling to come forward in fear of ridicule. Yeah. And fear of ridicule. And the girls even bring it up. The girls we'll discuss next, actually, um bring it up that they were ridiculed for this and they still are to this day.
Speaker: So if for the most part, like you're getting hate for this and you're getting threatened by government entities. um Yeah, I could see you just being like, OK, this is more trouble than it's worth. i'm just going to shut up about it.
Speaker: 20 years later, all of a sudden this American comes to town and he's taking this very seriously. Like, he believes you, he wants you to tell your story, and and he's trying to prove to you that you're not like a crazy person, you don't deserve this ridicule.
Speaker: think it makes sense to be like, okay, yes, i'm I'm going to talk to this guy. Like, here's someone who I think finally will will listen to this and and not just take it for a grain of salt and and go for it.
Speaker: You know, it's it's why, like, it's it's in every part of the paranormal community, whether it's, like, a cryptid, it's like a Bigfoot sighting, or a ghost, or things like, I'm not tell the story. Like, people think I'm crazy.
Speaker: Like, I don't want to get made fun of, you know? um It happens. I mean, they they bring it up here. So, to me, I think that's why. It's like, if you have a wife and kids, then, like, why expose them to having a crazy dad, right?
Speaker: Lock in. don't know. How did you guys feel about James Fox as as our as our guide and as a as a host for this for this whole thing?
Speaker: I liked him. I think he's ah he's a good host and he's clearly very passionate about this, which is great. But I think my favorite part about him was how much he was willing to protect these people. yeah um thought that was really admirable.
Speaker: he He really treats this like it's like an investigative journalist piece for the Wall Street Journal. Yeah, which is really cool to see. And I love that about him. I love that when you hear him on these podcasts discussing these things he's talking about off the record, you know confidentiality, things like that.
Speaker: It's something very important to him, and he takes this very seriously, and I think i think he's great. I think he's he's awesome. I'll have to go back and listen to the to that Rogan episode.
Speaker: Yeah. um Okay, so the encounter with the three girls, they... What they claim to encounter in this like back alley yard type of situation is a close encounter with a creature that came from this crash site.
Speaker: And they picture him like hunched over with like big bulging red eyes and they claim that he was oily and then they they ran off screaming. um The drawing of the alien, I was like, oh, fuck, no.
Speaker: That's what I don't want. I don't want to see that guy. They, yeah, and and they're, like, walking through this thing. They said they were admiring, graffiti like, some graffiti that had been painted, and they looked down, and they saw this thing, like, crouching there, like, frightened.
Speaker: um And they hint at some sort of communication with it, whether, like, and this is kind of where it gets lost, is, like, was it, like, telepathic? like Yeah, that part was a little like a little weird. Did it look scared? But they said they they thought it was very frightened.
Speaker: Yeah. um And they run off screaming and they go and get their mother who, yeah know, they're religious. She thinks it's the devil.
Speaker: mean, that is how they describe this. And i mean, they're absolutely terrified of this. I believe their ages range from like they're like, what, teens, like 14 through 18 or something. Yeah.
Speaker: It's like, they are not like children. They're, you know, near adults or an adult. And they're terrified of this thing. And I mean, word travels about it fast after their mother comes to to see it. um And this is kind of where like the news begins to pick it up is that these girls saw an alien in the alley. And the government says that this was just like some some some dude on on in goblin mode. Yeah.
Speaker: was just a Friday night. um Yeah, once the government comes in and there's the story of the guy who handled the creature that supposedly died. Michael Chiraisi?
Speaker: Yeah, like he touched it and got insanely sick and there wass just nothing anyone could do. And then he just dies? Of an infection, yeah. Like, how do you how do you explain that?
Speaker: It's crazy. It is crazy. that That bit is super crazy. And... So, like, there's two of them. There's, like, two aliens. There's the alley one. There's the one that gets captured. And then there's, like, another one that gets captured. The one with the net.
Speaker: Yeah. um So, there there are at least two creatures running around Virginia, Brazil. Oh, and, like, this is happening in broad daylight. Like, this is the afternoon. um At least the girls' encounter was. I believe, i think, Marcus Shirese was in the evening.
Speaker: where he grabs the thing and throws it in the Jeep and drives it to wherever. um But that's the the crazy bit, is is that story where they they talk about you know this guy who was told to keep an eye—him and this guy, Eric Lopes, were told to keep an eye out for something—how they describe it, like out of place— Something like that.
Speaker: Oh, here's an alien. And this dude grabs it barehanded. And one of the things here's one of the details that I found like super compelling is they everybody kept describing the smell the same way.
Speaker: Yeah. The ammonia and and sulfur. Ammonia and sulfur. And they even are the the girl and her mom even argue at one point was like, it was very selfish. No, I thought it was ammonia. It was like ammonia. And someone was like, it was ammonia and sulfur.
Speaker: Yeah. At that point, i was like, all right, they saw something that and then everyone's saying that that dude was like oiled up. The the oil, like the the the contact one, the skin contact one is that one is my like.
Speaker: To me, that's the most upsetting part of the story because, like, Marco Chirese was a real guy. He did die yeah of an infection. um I mean, I guess you could say, like, his sister, like, like the the skeptic's explanation would be that, like, she just can't cope with it to this day.
Speaker: But the end of the documentary is like, something happened to to Marco Chirese that was strange because the way this documentary ends is absolutely nuts.
Speaker: um One of the other things that was really glossed over during this whole debacle is the family that comes forward to talk, but only under anonymity.
Speaker: um So James Fox tells this, he tells it on one of the podcasts that they like just wanted to tell the story and leave. Like they didn't want the cameras rolling. They were just like, Hey, we're going to tell you this, but that we're going dip. Like, we just wanted to let you know that we saw a UFO searching va Virginia in a grid pattern at night.
Speaker: And the dog really talks about that. And then it just is like moving on. I mean, which made sense because they they didn't want yeah they didn't want to be on camera like at all. like They're interviewing them like from the back and then also like blurring their faces. But I'm also like, they wanted to keep like they wanted to keep their their their identity a secret.
Speaker: But i'm like if I'm local to this town, i'm like, I know who that is. like i know that i know I know what the back of your head looks like. like I was like get them out of the shot. like this I don't need to see any of it.
Speaker: Keep these people safe.
Speaker: But that story was just just like, whoa. and That one was crazy. Did anyone else see this? And if so, like how many people saw and are not coming forward? Yeah. Would you guys say something?
Speaker: I'd say something. Yeah. Yeah? Yeah, I think so. Okay. I think so too. At this point, I don't see why you wouldn't.
Speaker: I'm telling everybody. er about I do feel like the as time has gone on the believability of UFOs has kind of dwindled because of our advancements in technology. like You would think we'd have something clear as day if someone's having some type of encounter now. but every video Everyone has a camera in their pocket.
Speaker: Exactly. like We're just on lockdown the like the entire time. like We could get something clear as day and there's like nothing. I'm going to give you an argument against that. Two things. the the gimbal footage from the Nimitz.
Speaker: I mean, this is like military hardware capturing ah an unidentified flying object on camera. Yeah. So you have that. But going to tell you a story.
Speaker: Riding my dirt bike in the woods in Georgia. And I come around the corner. And clear as day in the trail, there's a mama bear and four cubs. I had a GoPro on.
Speaker: Turned off. It was on here. As I'm riding, like getting close to them, I try and turn the GoPro on so I can capture bear footage. The clearest shot I got of all four bears
Speaker: is three black blobs and maybe a fourth. You cannot tell. Like, the only way you can think they're bears is my word. It's really, really bad.
Speaker: This is a 4K camera that was turned on as soon as I saw them.
Speaker: And it was looking wherever my head was turned, because again, it was mounted right here.
Speaker: If you're seeing something like this, really specific, like our East Texas story there, if you're seeing something really so like like that, are Can you get your phone out in time before it's gone and and get a video?
Speaker: I could. A picture? I'd like to think I could, but I mean, i won't ever know until I'm in that situation. so So I guess I just always got to be ready. And if you do, will it be clear and good?
Speaker: Yes. 100%. No doubt. no Yeah, we no doubt. We got this. But we do have footage. I mean, we have footage from very like high technology cameras and stuff of of these things happening.
Speaker: Yeah, our entire recent and the last like year of disclosure just completely went under the radar. We're like, bro, we're dealing with bigger issues here. We don't have time for aliens. What's happened? We don't need this.
Speaker: Yeah. But there was a point in time where if this was happening with all these declassified documents, I feel they would have been everywhere and it just barely made a peep. That's why Disclosure Day is so funny because it's like we have disclosure going on right now and people are like, yeah we don't care.
Speaker: but Gas is $4 a gallon. Okay, well, I don't watch movies to align with what's going on in reality, okay? Oh, no. I spoke of this. Oh.
Speaker: Yes, he did. um Okay, so what happens next after after the family interview? I've got that the Navy takes a body from the infirmary in some type of metal box. So we're getting some more ah stories and testimony from military personnel or people that at least saw what they were doing.
Speaker: This is the craziest. like To me, if I had to say what's the most unbelievable part of the story, it's this bit. It's the hospital bit. Yeah. Because now you're This sounds like a movie.
Speaker: It sounds like a movie, and i think it's, at least to us, I think it's the least verifiable.
Speaker: Whereas it's like, okay, it's like, here, us the girls saw this, and it just feels different. Like, okay, now it's like it feels a little fantastical that you know we have the the people or the government you know working on these aliens, right?
Speaker: ah x-raying them, not letting the x-ray tech see the x-ray, but let them see the body, like, you know, all sorts of stuff. And it does feel the most unbelievable out of all of it.
Speaker: But there's a lot of people telling like a very similar story about, and we actually get two perspectives of the same event within the hospital hu in this.
Speaker: And so you're like, man, like, I don't want to believe this.
Speaker: But I can't say How
Speaker: does this the oily leg part? Yeah, the whole like body in the hospital bit. We we got the perspective of the radiologist and military ex.
Speaker: who I believe was one of the guards in the room when the radiologist was in there.
Speaker: Unless I'm confusing two different hospital visits, because there were two hospitals that were visited. I think you're right. yeah There was a a Humanitas and then i think the one in Virginia itself.
Speaker: But very strange event. And we kind of get multiple perspectives of it. What was your believability at this part, Tachi? um Kind a nice bag.
Speaker: Yeah. it's I mean, like like Alex kind of set it up, it's just like... It's very fantastical, but... like I brought up at the very beginning, like because so many people are able to kind of report, you know, the the same thing at, you know, whatever juncture of the the event that they were at.
Speaker: But it's it's hard to deny that. hmm. But I don't know.
Speaker: I agree. There's, a i don't know. There's, there's a lot that kind of just has to go right in a situation like that. Like if this was happening and yeah, I, I also don't know the radiologist story. was just like, all right,
Speaker: i don't know I don't know if they would just like pick someone. All right, take x-rays now. Now swear to secrecy. Swear to me. And then he's just I feel like there'd be a bit more discretion.
Speaker: But yeah, like you said, multiple stories kind of saying the same thing.
Speaker: These guys are also talking about the ammonia in and sulfur smell. And then I think they get to trying to have the conversation with Eric Lopez. And this this kind of seems like like like the whale that they want to get. Like, if we can talk to this guy, then this entire then the the lid gets blown off this entire thing. and we've got like our story and we've got like the truth.
Speaker: Was it Lopes or Lopez? Because lope sorry lo both both James Fox and the Brazilian guides said both. I think it's Lopes. Yeah, I think it's Lopes.
Speaker: It ends with an S. Eric Lopes was in the car with Marco Chirese when Marco Chirese captures the alien. And he was like very good buddies. um I want to say, James Fox says in one of the podcasts that Eric Lopes is married to Marco Chirese's wife's sister or something. or Married to... There was like ah like a connection there. like a
Speaker: There was like a familial connection there, too. okay They were very close, is the point. Both like friends and kind of... lineage-wise.
Speaker: So, Marcus Shrezky dies, or Eric Lopes doesn't, and Eric Lopes completely drops off the grid. um Not so much that they can't find him because they do, but he won't talk to anybody. He will not talk to anyone. Even with intercessions, even like the Shrezky family were like, we can't really get him to talk.
Speaker: So they go and and they try and they go and try and interview Eric Lopes and he's sitting in the window. And he's like, the first thing this guy says to them as they walk up is like, if this is about the E.T. go away, I won't talk to you.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: And they try and then he starts starting them with guns or like, no, Eric Lopes. He says, Eric Lopes won't talk. Eric Lopes won't talk. And then James Fox asked a question. and The guy's like, all right, screw it. I'm Eric Lopes. I'm not going to talk. I'm going to shoot you. Go away.
Speaker: Yeah. And then they leave. And I'm just like watching this. I'm thinking like this is not the reaction of a guy that nothing happened to.
Speaker: It just isn't. Yeah.
Speaker: that That situation was very tense. um James was kind of pressing a little more than I thought he would, especially under a threat of getting shot. Well, he he didn't have any idea what was being said to him because the guys were telling him.
Speaker: Yeah. that's But we can, and I was getting stressed out. i was like, dude, stop talking. Stop talking. He's going to shoot.
Speaker: But then also the translators, i was like, tell him, tell James right now that he has a gun and he's going to shoot. That is the first and most important thing you should say instead of he doesn't want to talk. He's a little upset.
Speaker: might tell him he has a gun and leave. He didn't have very, just as an aside, he did not have very helpful translators. That guy or the lady who did a lot of the interviews.
Speaker: Yeah. i don't I don't know that I saw her translate much other than like one sentence. I'm sure they cut a lot of it like out like they they had some some good editing in between like the conversations between like English and Spanish where we're not Portuguese or Portuguese sorry in Portuguese where we're not just like watching the translators that's fair do it all of the time so I feel like they they did a pretty good job with that but yeah that part specifically I was just like we need a we need a very stressful yeah i was like please get get your shit together
Speaker: When it's your first day on the translating job you forget the the the English word for gun. You're in big trouble. Oh, he's got ah he's got a... think I'm a what's it.
Speaker: Gizmo. Yeah, yeah i would have been hightailed out of there. um And that kind of... Does that wrap the documentary at that point?
Speaker: That was like the last big event that they covered. was Yeah. Well, then they talk about the journey the alien took and how the US Air Force entered Brazilian airspace without permission, picked the body up, and flew away.
Speaker: That part also nuts. That is the most believable part of the entire story.
Speaker: It's also the one like most shrouded in mystery. Yeah, because they just showed up, took it, and left. Yep. And the whole the whole town is just like, what? Can they do that?
Speaker: Can you imagine being on that Air Force mission? like are you You guys are about to just fly to Brazil. like Do have permission? No. Don't ask questions. Get in and get out.
Speaker: Did we just overthrow a country? It's just the normal Tuesday. But I mean, overall, I did i did like this documentary. um ah thought it was very well done and an interesting incident that I had that i was not aware of previously.
Speaker: <unk> I'd like to check out James Fox's other work, but definitely, guys, listen to every podcast appearance he's done. This guy's fascinating. I saw on Reddit there may be, like I don't know if it's a part two or just like updates to the story that James Fox is working on, um but it was a pretty recent Reddit thread in the last year, and someone had made a comment that that there's going to be some like updates, like an updated documentary two to this. So I'd be interested to see that.
Speaker: Yeah. Yeah. I know there's some bonus footage if you buy it on like Apple or something. I'm not buying anything. It was free on YouTube. I was also grateful that this was like the most high-definition movie I'd ever seen in my life after Ghost Adventures.
Speaker: like everythings Everything's so clear. This is awesome. so i I watched this one on the Roku channel. and The Roku channel is actually pretty solid in terms of like stream quality and selection, things like that.
Speaker: But they're... at their where they break the show for ads is painful. It's not in any logical point. um This is pretty much how my viewing experience of Moment of Contact went.
Speaker: And now we're here with Katya, and Katya is going to tell us about you the the alien that she and her friends and sister saw in 1966. It cuts to Katya, Katya's like,
Speaker: And then it's like, James Tallarico is a communist. ah He's a vegan. Don't vote for him. Ken yeah Paxton's a patriot.
Speaker: Yeah, it was completely free on YouTube. No ads. Be like 90 seconds of ads. and it's They were all political. It was just back and forth. Like Ken Paxton freed a pedophile because he's a criminal.
Speaker: James Tallarico. He's going to kill your dog. And I'm like, already voted. Leave me alone. It adds to the experience.
Speaker: No, I mean, i to it got to the point where I was like, James Tallarico is an integral part of this story. he's's He's in bed with the UFOs. James Tallarico is, yeah, he he was involved in va Virginia in some way. Was he part of the Air Force? We don't know.
Speaker: You heard it here first. Breaking news. Breaking news. We're going to get knocks on our door tomorrow morning. Paxton campaign. Call me. This is proprietary information. I will charge a massive fee for it, though.
Speaker: You're not going to regret pet spending money on this one. So what do we take away from this documentary? How do you guys what do you guys feel about it overall towards UFOs?
Speaker: I think there's a phenomenon like an unexplained phenomenon out there. Not everything can be explained away by planes and misidentification. It's just there are things in this world that we cannot begin to understand or explain.
Speaker: I think it's time that we as a society accept that.
Speaker: Agreed.
Speaker: I agree. Yeah, I was pretty open-minded going into it. I'm not sure that I was necessarily necessarily convinced either way, but Yeah, like Alex said, i don't know, shit happens, so. I guess that's not what he said. That was my takeaway.
Speaker: But yeah, not everything can be explained. Shit happens, like, i don't know. That's a good way to live life. um Awesome. Well, I've had a very fun spooktober this year.
Speaker: um i think we have one more story from another listener. Alex? We do. This one actually, again, the the the listener was not able to join us live.
Speaker: However, I met up with this listener in person and recorded a little mini interview. So this is also a loss in the frame first, which I was about to say lots of first for this booktober special. i'm I'm pretty sure I say that exact thing in the recording. Um, you know, okay. Well, this is how we're ending the episode with this last story.
Speaker: So if you don't hear from us for the rest of this episode, we'll see in the next one. We'll end it with a little, with a little story here. Here we go. Exciting to be on the show.
Speaker: Awesome, awesome. So, I mean, where do you want to start? it's The floor is yours. is yours. So I feel like it's really important to lead with the fact that I don't really... but i never really believed in ghosts. I never believed in paranormal activity. And with the story I'm about to tell, I looked for what would be reasonable explanations as to what happened. And I didn't find any reasonable explanations as to what happened. But if anyone were to come up with one and tell me, I would gladly accept it as as um what happened with this story. Because it definitely freaks me out as someone who's not really into this sort of thing, typically. But... um
Speaker: For context, um this story occurred right after my, I have two grandfathers that have passed away at this point. And this story occurred like two or three months after um my second grandfather had passed away. And so just for some very quick context on their personalities, ah my maternal grandfather had passed away first. He was a very, very happy, jolly kind of person. he was always a very positive person to be around, always surrounded by people, very beloved, uh, very fun, extroverted guy. And my grandfather on my paternal side, who passed away a couple of years after him was very different. He was very quiet. He was very muted. he
Speaker: also had a very specific appreciation for beautiful things. So for a very long time in Indian families, um, Our grandparents will sometimes come and live with us in our homes. It's very culturally normal. And when my grandfather on my dad's side came to live with us, he would always notice changes in the furniture. If my mom brought home a new pillow or a sham, he would notice it. He spent a lot of time in the backyard, in the garden, looking at the vegetable plants and the flowers everything. really had this special appreciation for for beautiful things. So given that context, um
Speaker: The other piece of information that would be fair to share here would be that my grandfather in 1998 had a heart attack. Is this the maternal or the paternal grandfather? This is a paternal grandfather. Yes, he had a heart attack in 1998. And when he went into recovery, they put him on some medication to cope with the pain. And they never really...
Speaker: took him off of those pain medications. So for a good part of the last part of his life, um he already had a very sedated personality, but he was further sedated by these medications that he was continuing to take up until pretty much the end of his life. So we had gone to Iceland. um It was my graduation trip. I joined my parents up there. And we were talking a lot about both of my grandfathers who had passed away since this was my first time seeing them since that event had occurred. And we were traveling around and we were just doing a road trip around the whole country. So the idea was that we would just drive from monument to monument. and at the end of the day, we would
Speaker: be booked in some sort of in or place to stay at And so throughout the trip, a very consistent theme was that it was very cloudy, it would be very rainy, and whenever we would pull up to a monument, for some reason, the sun would come out.
Speaker: just for a few moments and the clouds would close as we drove away from pretty much every single monument and by like day three or four we're we're starting to make jokes we're starting to say that oh like our grandfathers want us to see this you know my dad is like oh my god my dad is speaking to me and we're just we're we're throwing around jokes about it and That day specifically, we had seen a double rainbow, which is very special. It's a very rare event. And it was absolutely beautiful. And it was something that we were talking about at the end of the day. And this was the day where the inn we had stayed in was probably in one of the most remote towns that we were in. ah We were staying directly on a fjord. It was very quiet. It was very calm. it reminded me a lot of that little grassy area in the Northern Water Tribe in Avatar that's just very spiritually charged. and you know It was beautiful, and you could definitely feel like that you were in a very special place. and so Great on-theme call-out for the type of podcast this is. Thank Thank you that. No problem. I'm all up with my references.
Speaker: um But basically, we had gone inside of the inn and we were staying in a very apartment style suite. So there was an entryway, there were porch lights, living room, and then right next to the living room were a bedroom and a bathroom. And so my dad went into the bathroom to take a shower. My mom and I were just, you know,
Speaker: making the sofa ready to sleep on in the living room. And i made a joke about the double rainbow earlier that day saying that both of our grandfathers were up in heaven somewhere. They were joking around. My grandfathers, you know, they put up one rainbow. One of them had a drink. The other one had some pain medication and they decided to throw up a second. ah I just said it. I said it in jest. I said it very casually. And when that happened, the lights in the living room specifically, not the porch lights, not the bedroom, not the bathroom, just in the living room, started to very slowly fade and turn back on. And this happened like repeatedly over the course of like 30 seconds. And it was...
Speaker: Now, was was there a dimmer switch in the room? None. I looked everywhere. There is no dimmer. There are no, like, you could only turn the lights on or off. It was very binary.
Speaker: There are no in-betweens. The light in the bedroom and the light in the bathroom were on, and they stayed on. The porch light outside also stayed on the whole time, and when I talked to some of the other people staying in the inn there were no accounts of strange electrical activity.
Speaker: I know, isn't that crazy? Yeah, that is weird. It's not something I can explain, but if anyone has an explanation out there on the internet, I'd be more than open to hearing and it. I'm sure we're going to get a comment from an electrician being like, oh, it's just, you know, there was something in the thing. But no, I mean, that's a weird one, right? Man, I hope so. But the timing was certainly weird. I was going to say, i mean, the the thing for me of this story is the timing of everything, right? Yes. the consistent theme of just, it's either... one heck of a coincidence or it's like okay maybe there was someone here i mean last year i told the story of uh you know if you may remember dear listener um last year i told the story about the dove on my grandma's grave on the anniversary of her death and you know it's probably like a wedding dove but it's just it's one of those weird you know synchronicities one of those weird coincidences that just just sometimes happens and you don't know why they're just strange and i think that like iceland being such a like natural spiritual place and like that being the setting is also interesting. I think that, you know, if there is some sort of spirit world or paranormal place, I feel like that somewhere with a lot of nature would be, whereas an event like that would be bound to happen. now we're getting very esoteric.
Speaker: Something scary, right? Yeah. Well, Anjali, this was awesome. We really, really appreciate you telling this one for us. Internet, please explain it. Yeah.
Speaker: With that, we'll ah we'll send it back to ah back to the studio. So thank you. All right, Malik, you can cut here.
Speaker: was going to say, what a good transition.
Speaker: I love that part. I didn't know how we were going to do it. That's so and then what a nice What a nice story, though. That's a good ghost story. Yeah. All right. Anything else, guys?
Speaker: We'll be back next week with a thing. We will be back next week with a thing. um Thank you so much for listening. Don't forget to like us on YouTube, five stars on Spotify, um and we will see you guys in the next one.
Speaker: Peace.
