Hello and welcome back to the Daily Newcastle podcast, the home of all things Newcastle. I'm Michael Grahamslow and today we are looking ahead at Saturday's big trip down the south coast as Newcastle take on Brighton and Ovalium at the Amex.
00:00:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's not really been somewhere we've enjoyed, not a single win there since 2017, but we're confident Eddie Howe's men can pull it forward. And with me to help unpack it all, the tactics, the form, the storylines.
00:00:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's like a good drama.

Guest Introduction and Game Anticipation

00:00:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
My good friends, Ian McKay and Nicola Pringle-Adams. Ian, I'll start with you, buddy. How's it going?
00:00:48
Iain
OK, Michael, as you know, I've been to sunny Newcastle today, which was actually quite mild, but overcast. um So I do get there occasionally, just not for the football.
00:00:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
but
00:01:00
Nicola Pringle-Adams
You too.
00:01:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hopefully that changes sooner rather than later. What about you, Nick? You doing well?
00:01:05
Nicola Pringle-Adams
ah Yes, I'm good. Thank you. I haven't been to Newcastle today because I live three and a half hours away, unfortunately. um So, yeah, I'm all good.
00:01:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
But you did get there for the football.
00:01:12
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Thank you. But I'm waiting for the football. i' not yet I'm yet to win a ballot this season, so that's great.
00:01:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, you and many, many others. those Although, surprisingly, I did manage to get one for Atleti Club, um which is ah ah amazing. I wasn't expecting it at all. And then had the serious get brought down back to earth with Manchester City.
00:01:29
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Perfect.
00:01:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
And think there another one after as well, where it was, unfortunately, ah here we go again.
00:01:36
Nicola Pringle-Adams
yeah
00:01:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:01:39
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Sick of it. I'm just piling up them emails.
00:01:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah yeah You type unfortunately into your Gmail and it's horrendous.

Defense and Recent Performance

00:01:45
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Just confident.
00:01:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
i But yes, I'm in a better mood, mainly because I don't have to watch my old Lewis Skelly play left back this week. I have to watch Dan Byrne there instead. But less about that.
00:01:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
There is a bit of a quiet conference around Newcastle at the moment, isn't there? Performance looking sharper, system settled, some new signings embedding in. Ian, how are you feeling ahead of this one?
00:02:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Optimistic?
00:02:09
Iain
i am I am optimistic by how strong our defence has been. It's still true, well, OK, it wasn't the first team when we played Bradford, so ignore that game.
00:02:20
Iain
But it's still true that it's only Liverpool, Arsenal and Barcelona who have managed to score against us this year. I have a feeling that maybe a fourth consecutive niil ni draw would be a great result at Brighton for us.
00:02:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
oh
00:02:34
Iain
But hey, why not? Why can we not just sneak this one? It's our turn, isn't it?
00:02:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, absolutely. I mean, they seem to do it to us all the time. But Nick, what about you? You feeling confident?
00:02:45
Nicola Pringle-Adams
um I'm happy that we're now longer no longer in the international break period thank goodness um ah So, yeah, so I'm happy that's done. um I am feeling a bit confident actually going into this one. um ah Brighton are obviously having, you know, a decent enough season so far um and they are a good side on their day.
00:03:02
Nicola Pringle-Adams
But, yeah, I am. I'm feeling confident. I feel like that away win in Europe and then the win after that, I think, has given Newcastle that bit of confidence that they were after at the beginning of the season.
00:03:11
Iain
yeah
00:03:14
Nicola Pringle-Adams
So, yeah, I am.
00:03:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, 100%. It took a lot of character, I think, for Newcastle to to bounce back from the the summer window. And then, you know, the setbacks, as we mentioned earlier, against Liverpool and Arsenal.
00:03:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Barcelona, not so much, just a completely different class of

Impact of New Signings

00:03:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
opponent. But I think like a large part of that's down to Malik Chau and Nick Vultemar. Have you been impressed with how those have clicked into play so quickly?
00:03:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
What do you think, Nick?
00:03:41
Nicola Pringle-Adams
um i was it like but The other day when we were on, we were talking about who's impressed us the most. um
00:03:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:03:47
Nicola Pringle-Adams
And I think one of you two said Voltamado, but I says Malik Chow has taken me, you Ian, yeah.
00:03:53
Iain
I'm
00:03:54
Nicola Pringle-Adams
has taken me by complete surprise in how well and quick um he has settled into the first team squad.
00:03:58
Iain
sorry. I'm sorry.
00:04:01
Nicola Pringle-Adams
I think him and Bottman at the minute are working really well together.
00:04:01
Iain
I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
00:04:03
Nicola Pringle-Adams
And yeah, it's given us a bit of confidence that um we so desperately needed.
00:04:07
Iain
I'm sorry.
00:04:08
Nicola Pringle-Adams
um And yeah, as Volta Marder, I mean, I absolutely love him. um I think, again, he's another one that's just settling in nicely and has taken his confidence away into um the international breaks. I believe, did he score for Germany um during the international break?
00:04:20
Iain
yeah
00:04:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, 100%.
00:04:21
Nicola Pringle-Adams
So yeah, it just goes to show what a little bit of, um club confidence can do for your you know your national team. So yeah.
00:04:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
The Germans should be thanking Newcastle. um but in Malik Chow, Nick Valtomar, unfortunately Chow didn't get away with Germany. But would you say those two, their performances are a large part of the reason why Newcastle have really started to shine in the coming weeks?
00:04:47
Iain
and they definitely Definitely large part, but I wouldn't put it just down to those two. I think Bottman has been back to his best Rolls Royce self, and that partnership is what's giving me the confidence to go down to Brighton and think that we can be secure at the back.
00:05:02
Iain
And then hope that I was super impressed with Anthony Gordon in both of these games in the international break. think his best two games this season have both been for England in the last week.
00:05:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Agreed.
00:05:13
Iain
So hopefully he'll bring that to the match against Brighton.
00:05:17
Iain
and Maybe it's a Jacob Murphy start because Alanga's having a rid rough time overseas. But did you see the two assists that Bruno put through for goals for Brazil in this last week?
00:05:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, right.
00:05:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, beautiful through balls.
00:05:31
Iain
Absolutely.
00:05:31
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Stunning.
00:05:33
Iain
absent I mean, he had all of his mathematical instruments out to get that through and for the young Chelsea lad to score. I think that was against Correa. ah Yeah, like I mean, if he's got his eye in like that, Tonali is his usual industrial self, Walter Marder and Gordon with their tails up, Botman and Chow keeping the back door locked, I think, yeah, um I am confident, I am.
00:05:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it seems like every Newcastle player had ah a bit of a decent ah international break, except Anthony Go... Not Anthony Anthony Go... Anthony Alanga, who was, of course, managed by an absolute idiot in John Earl Thomason, who didn't even play him, and as a result, lost his job.
00:06:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, maybe spend more time worrying about your job and not Newcastle in the summer, and maybe you would have kept it. But, i'm not I'm not bitter at all.
00:06:21
Nicola Pringle-Adams
I am.
00:06:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
On that case, yeah, I'm definitely better. But... Brighton is another team that probably we have a bit more of a reason to be bitter at. Brighton away, we haven't won since February 2017. I think it was, it might have been a bit later.
00:06:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
um The lads have come away with a win at the Amex. Can either of you remember who scored for Newcastle on that day?
00:06:45
Iain
Oh my word.
00:06:45
Nicola Pringle-Adams
No.
00:06:47
Iain
and I can remember the Huddersfield game straight after it better. I remember Dwight Gale scoring a goal in that game. So i'm going to say Dwight Gale.
00:06:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
beautiful love, yeah.
00:06:59
Iain
I'm going to say Dwight Gale because he was scoring every every week that time. Was it not?
00:07:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
It wasn't, no. Nicola, you got any ideas?
00:07:08
Nicola Pringle-Adams
I've got no idea. I've
00:07:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, do you remember...
00:07:10
Iain
You were only so yeah where did you six, weren't you?
00:07:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
The
00:07:13
Nicola Pringle-Adams
no idea.
00:07:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
same age as me!
00:07:16
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Oh. Jesus.
00:07:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Do you remember Modi...
00:07:18
Iain
Johan Goufran. Goufran.
00:07:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, it was not. Do either of you remember the greatest goal Modi Army ever scored for Newcastle?
00:07:28
Iain
Oh, yeah, that's it.
00:07:29
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Oh.
00:07:29
Iain
It's that game.
00:07:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes.
00:07:31
Iain
ah ah
00:07:32
Nicola Pringle-Adams
jesus
00:07:32
Iain
off he's Off the back of his calf or something, wasn't it?
00:07:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, the ball comes in, corner comes in, Christian Atsu scuffs a volley, Modi Army just flicks his heel out, goes over the goalkeeper in at the goal.
00:07:36
Iain
Raheel.
00:07:40
Nicola Pringle-Adams
oh
00:07:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
That sparked the comeback.
00:07:45
Iain
Second. Second one was Iosey Perez.
00:07:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then...
00:07:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Absolutely correct. Jose Perez did the job later on for Nick Apple.
00:07:52
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Well done.
00:07:52
Iain
It's all coming back to me now. It's all coming back to me now.
00:07:55
Nicola Pringle-Adams
So coming back.
00:07:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh...
00:07:57
Nicola Pringle-Adams
So coming back. Oh, funny.
00:08:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
you've finish Finish the line, come on.
00:08:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
it's a It feels like this is a bit different. Obviously, both those sides in the Championship then, both mid-table in the Premier League now.

Overcoming the Brighton Challenge

00:08:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Newcastle have got Europe, though. and but When you look at the last few weeks, four games unbeaten in all comps, three wins in five, belief starting to come back.
00:08:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
But do you think the mental side of this is almost as as important as the tactical side? Can we finally shake off that Brighton... Hoodoo, shall we say? What do you think, Nick?
00:08:33
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Sorry, did you say 2017 was the last time we won at Brighton?
00:08:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
I believe so, yes.
00:08:39
Iain
Yeah, we've never beaten him in a Premier League, never won in a Premier League against
00:08:40
Nicola Pringle-Adams
That is...
00:08:43
Nicola Pringle-Adams
That is insane. I didn't realise it had been that long. um Anyway.
00:08:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
I thought you going to turn around and go, no, actually, we won in 2020 when this guy did this.
00:08:52
Iain
but
00:08:52
Nicola Pringle-Adams
No.
00:08:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
I was going to oh.
00:08:54
Nicola Pringle-Adams
um My brain isn't that good. I mean, i put maybe we have, I don't know. But um anyway.
00:08:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't believe
00:08:58
Nicola Pringle-Adams
um Look, what what was the question? The mental side as well as the tactical. um Look, Newcastle have had, um and I know we keep saying it, they have had probably one of the most turbulent few months I've ever experienced as a Newcastle fan, particularly from July, August, September time.
00:09:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
I agree.
00:09:05
Iain
Thank you.
00:09:16
Nicola Pringle-Adams
um That is bound to take an absolute toll on and off the pitch. um So I will just about say, I think we are just about there now. we so Obviously, I know we've got Wissa, Ramsey, now Livermanto out with an injury, but I think we're probably now at a point where we can see, we can see ourselves playing all together. Obviously we've had to sell a langering quite quick.
00:09:41
Nicola Pringle-Adams
We to settle Volta Mardy in quickly. Cause he's obviously was straight into starting as we know. um And that I think sometimes I think people, and don by people, I mean, us as fans forget how long it can take for a team to actually gel together and settle together.
00:09:58
Nicola Pringle-Adams
um So, yes, it's about the tactical side, but I think now mentally we're probably just about there. um Eddie Howe's really good at keeping his players, you know, grounded out the spotlight and things like that. So I think, yeah, think we're probably just about there now.
00:10:13
Nicola Pringle-Adams
And like I said, we've had that confidence over the last few games. so um I don't know if you guys agree or not. I'm just waffling.
00:10:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, 100%.
00:10:20
Iain
and don't
00:10:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm a lot more confident.
00:10:21
Iain
i don't I don't think there's a hoodoo, Michael, not for this team. The new guys, they've never played at Brighton before. So, Chow, Valtemada, Alanga. Ramsey, if he comes in, because he he was nearly starting before the international

Team Dynamics and Lineup Debates

00:10:35
Iain
break and he's had two weeks training since then.
00:10:37
Iain
I hope we see him.
00:10:38
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yep. Yep.
00:10:39
Iain
But also, the rest of the boys who've been there for two or three years, they've been breaking bad records week after week. Winning a cup final, for example.
00:10:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:10:50
Iain
Beating Liverpool.
00:10:50
Nicola Pringle-Adams
yep
00:10:51
Iain
Winning away at Arsenal. Beating Man City. it You know, hoodoos are there for this team to put to bed.
00:11:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
There we go. Three points in the bag. Now, on a bit of positivity, I'm going to go to the advert before we ruin it by going any negativity.
00:11:04
Iain
like
00:11:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
And this, speaking of positivity, it's by Anik.
00:11:16
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Okay.
00:11:35
Iain
Natasha.
00:11:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Absolutely fantastic. And for those paying attention during the advert, that was how long I have left before Ian decides to leave. So we are going to run, run through.
00:12:03
Iain
talk
00:12:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
you
00:12:05
Iain
but my Before my computer decides to give up because I left the yeah power lead back in the office.
00:12:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's not his case, it's his last one.
00:12:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
But... Newcastle United's power lead is fully there.
00:12:13
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Rick Yara. Mm-hmm.
00:12:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
And that's obviously Jacob Murphy, the power lead to Alexander Rezac, might just be playing on right wing.
00:12:17
Iain
Not on link.
00:12:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
So we're going to go into team news. Johan Wisser, Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall are all out. ah Jacob Ramsey back in training. and Lewis Miley might even be available after missing the under-21 games for England.
00:12:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
We're going to stick with the 4-3-3, let's be honest. Open goal, Trippier on the right, Bern on the left, pretty much cemented, would you say? Would you both agree with that?
00:12:43
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yep. 100%. kind of some
00:12:46
Iain
I would agree entirely. However, i am aware that in one interview I heard very recently, Eddie Howard did mention that he still had Alex Murphy, who was more than capable of doing a job.
00:13:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Not off pre-season yet.
00:13:02
Iain
So I don't know if that was a hint. I don't know if that was a hint. But he's still training with the first team and he's a left back. So maybe five at the back with Alex Murphy playing left back. I don't know.
00:13:13
Iain
He gets up and down quite well. Or Harrison Aspie. Oh, no, sorry.
00:13:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Is
00:13:17
Iain
No. I don't know. I agree with you. I think it's 4-3-3.
00:13:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
there potential? Yeah, 100%. And then the midfield three probably writes itself as well. Same with Big Nick. So, really, the only bits we need, well, we should be talking about is centre-back partnership.
00:13:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
We mentioned Malik Chau and Sven Botman. Would you both say they're cemented as the first-choice pairing now?
00:13:41
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah, I'm going for them too. 100%. Yep.
00:13:43
Iain
it said Dead with them having trained together recently. Dan Burns been missing from the group.
00:13:48
Nicola Pringle-Adams
yep
00:13:51
Iain
and I think they're going to start.
00:13:52
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Paul Dunburn.
00:13:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think so. They're two of the players that haven't gone away for a national duty, so you'd think they'd be fit enough to start.
00:13:55
Nicola Pringle-Adams
What do you like?
00:14:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
and It does feel har and harsh on Fabian Scher, but even great players for eventually have to drop out the team. um Which means, let's be honest, it's probably going to be Anthony Gordon on the left.
00:14:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
So the remaining question is who goes in on that right side? What are best assista of the season so far in Jacob Murphy or the ever electric Alanga? Nick, what do you think?
00:14:24
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Who did he start against Forrest? It was Alanga, wasn't it?
00:14:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
It was a Langer and he didn't have a great game.
00:14:28
Nicola Pringle-Adams
um He did not have a great game. Whether that was because it was is his old side, I don't know. But um I think he is... oh No, I'm going to stick. I think he'll stick with Anthony Alanga.
00:14:42
Nicola Pringle-Adams
And then we'll see Jacob Murphy come on maybe around 60-ish minutes.
00:14:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
He
00:14:46
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Seems unfair for Jacob Murphy, because he's having a really great season and again.
00:14:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
had a good start. Yeah. What about you, Ian? What do you think?
00:14:54
Iain
I think it'll go with Murphy. I think Alanga's done the travelling.
00:14:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh.
00:14:56
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Oh,
00:14:58
Iain
think Alanga's done the travelling. I think he'll start with Murphy.
00:15:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
True.
00:15:02
Iain
He'll have Alanga come on for the last half hour. We're playing again on Wednesday, aren't we? So, you know, this is where the games start coming every three or four days.
00:15:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:15:06
Nicola Pringle-Adams
of course, yeah.
00:15:10
Iain
um So I think he'll start with Jacob Murphy, who, again, has been in the group training. um Yeah, i'm I'm hoping, you know, with all of these games coming up, I want to see Sue Sun Park on the bench.
00:15:27
Iain
I want to see something like that happening for the last 20 minutes or so. let's have Let's blood some of these youngsters. We've got a lot of games coming. I don't mean bring them on if we're two down.
00:15:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think...
00:15:36
Nicola Pringle-Adams
I just can't see him doing it against these teams.
00:15:37
Iain
Of course I don't. well and But, you know, if we're winning, in if we've got...
00:15:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
um
00:15:45
Iain
I think they've got to get in there travelling. I think we should see half a dozen of these young lads getting some time because we might might want them to play out some Dead rubbers at the end of the Champions League qualifying when we're already qualified with three games left.
00:16:00
Nicola Pringle-Adams
True.
00:16:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
I will play them all against PSG. No, i think i think, to be honest, i get I do get where you're coming from. And, yeah, the young lads, if they're good enough, they should get time.
00:16:11
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah.
00:16:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think at the same time, if you do have them on the bench, who are you taking off? Is it a Joe Willock? Is it a um ah Lewis Miley? A Jamal LaSalle?
00:16:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Maybe a Mille Craft? But Kraft's versatility means he probably has to play there. So it's it's one of those, I think, you lose something by adding one of these youngsters on there. Maybe the only one I'd be happy with taking off would be Joe Willock, but it's bit harsh on Willock, isn't it?
00:16:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
He hasn't fallen that far out of favour.
00:16:39
Iain
True. It's true. It's true. Yeah. And I wasn't thinking about the yeah the reserves that we have to then leave behind. But peace they would they would be involved on Wednesday. i don't know.
00:16:53
Iain
maybe Maybe Wednesdays are better game to do it.
00:16:56
Iain
We're at home.
00:16:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think do it one by one and sort of Susan Park in a game where maybe Forrest would have been a perfect example of, you know, if you haven't got the goal just yet, you can bring him on.
00:16:59
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah.
00:17:04
Nicola Pringle-Adams
yeah
00:17:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's very tricky player. um Beautiful assist for the young'uns against manfield Mansfield, actually. um From what I've heard, he sounded great there. um But...
00:17:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Back to sort of Brighton. um I think it's going to be one of those where... So did we agree on... We didn't agree on right wing, did we? One of you said Murphy, one of you said Alanga.
00:17:28
Iain
We went 50-50, yeah.
00:17:30
Iain
yeah
00:17:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
What?
00:17:31
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Down the middle.
00:17:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I'm um umm a child, so I'm not going to choose between the two parents. ah So we're going to go to Brighton. ah No, I think it'll be, ah to be honest, you've both made very good points.
00:17:38
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah.
00:17:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
um I think it will probably end up being Murphy just because he has travelled. And I think the game on when Alanga has travelled to Sweden and the game on Wednesday might suit Alanga better.
00:17:56
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah.
00:17:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
um So it was a great point.
00:17:57
Nicola Pringle-Adams
ah
00:17:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But Brighton, Brighton also have their issues. Adam Webster's out. Solly March and Matoma are out. Matoma's the big one there. um As he's a fantastic player on his day and does look like he's starting to come back into the form for Brighton.
00:18:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Ian, we've watched Brighton a fair bit over the years.

Brighton's Threats and Predictions

00:18:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Where do you think the the key battles are across the pitch?
00:18:20
Iain
Oh, I guarantee Yacouba Minter will be destroying poor old Dan Byrne on the left back.
00:18:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, yeah.
00:18:26
Iain
They'll be targeting him.
00:18:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. I'm
00:18:28
Iain
They will. And I'm hoping that Sven is good enough to be covering and Anthony Gordon's not blown himself out with such a wonderful performance for England and he can come back and do some covering as well.
00:18:39
Iain
Yakuba Minters turns it on against us all of the time. Bless him, he doesn't always celebrate when he scores.
00:18:43
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yep.
00:18:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
going to change my mind halfway through though.
00:18:45
Iain
ah think he still feels a bit bad, knowing that we didn't want to sell him. and Of course, Danny Welbeck as well.
00:18:54
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah, I'm going say him.
00:18:55
Iain
He's got an Indian sign over us, hasn't he?
00:18:57
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Do you like him, Michael?
00:18:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:18:57
Iain
and what
00:18:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
I loved him until he started scoring against us all the time.
00:18:59
Iain
I watched him beat us twice.
00:19:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then he was...
00:19:02
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah.
00:19:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's like, I can forgive you've had a little loan spell at Sunderland. I liked him at Arsenal. liked him at Man United. But yeah, when he started getting a bit cocky because he started scoring against us, nah, getting a bit...
00:19:14
Iain
Thank you.
00:19:15
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah, agreed. Yeah. yeah Off you go.
00:19:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, exactly.
00:19:20
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah.
00:19:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
But you mentioned Minter there, Welbeck as well. Great point. Both of them seem to do very well against us. Nick, is there anyone else here you're looking at and thinking they could cause us a bit of problem?
00:19:32
Nicola Pringle-Adams
No, I think I agree with Ian on them two entirely. um They both love to have good games against Newcastle and I won't lie, Dan Bernhorst does a really great job, don't get me wrong, when he has to step up, but am a little bit worried about him on the um on the old left back on Saturday.
00:19:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, we're talking a little higher than that.
00:19:49
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah. um But we'll soon see. We shall soon see. Yeah.
00:19:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
We shall see indeed. And before we get into our predictions, I'm going ask one of you to give me our second advert of the evening.
00:19:55
Nicola Pringle-Adams
yeah
00:20:02

Delightful, my darling. Thank you very much.
00:20:33
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Thank you.
00:20:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right. So we've talked about both sides. We've established who the danger men are for Brighton. I'm going to ask you both for your predictions. Now, Ian, in case you all of a sudden disappear, I'm going to go to you first.
00:20:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Is it a 3-1 or is it something different?
00:20:52
Iain
No, I haven't done the three ones, no.
00:20:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because you haven't gone with 3-1 a lot. Yeah. Yeah.
00:20:56
Iain
14 minutes I've got left, Michael, so we should be all right, just about.
00:20:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, delightful.
00:21:00
Iain
I'm going for continued shutouts and us really to do the same, play the same way we did when we played a difficult team like Villa, but just dominated the ball.
00:21:14
Iain
I think we win 2-0.
00:21:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay.
00:21:17
Nicola Pringle-Adams
That's what was going for.
00:21:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, two bold selections. Nick, are you going to stick with the 2-0 or...
00:21:24
Nicola Pringle-Adams
No, I'll go different just to keep it different. um Oh, I can't go three no because it's not going to be that. um
00:21:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, I mean, that's kind of what I was going to go for.
00:21:32
Nicola Pringle-Adams
I am going to go... ah do think Brighton will score, so I'm going to go LAUGHTER
00:21:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
So... and um
00:21:42
Iain
You can do 3-1, Michael.
00:21:44
Nicola Pringle-Adams
but
00:21:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, no, no, no. That's an Ian McKay special. I'm not good enough for that. um I am going to... You know what? I'm going to go for another nil bill because we are the experts of nil-nils across the board.
00:21:57
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Oh
00:22:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
um i do To be honest, I do prefer 2-1.
00:22:00
Nicola Pringle-Adams
yeah. yeah
00:22:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
It will be tight, though, and it's one of those of if Brighton get the first goal, we might not score for a month. If we get the first goal, which I think we we think we will, then the game will open up a little bit more. But we don't need a reminder of what happened the first time the two sides met last season. and
00:22:21
Nicola Pringle-Adams
No, no, no, no, no.
00:22:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Neither game was great, actually.
00:22:22
Iain
what
00:22:22
Nicola Pringle-Adams
no
00:22:23
Iain
I would take nil-nil, Michael. I would take a point now because I think the other three games that we've got and in this internet this block for the next international break, I think the other three games we win
00:22:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
o Oh, to be honest, i I do think this is the hardest out of the lot.
00:22:37
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Okay.
00:22:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
And when you think about Brighton are unbeaten this season at home, um I know they've beat City.
00:22:42
Iain
Me too.
00:22:42
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yeah.
00:22:47
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Oh,
00:22:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
know they drew with Spurs and I believe they played someone in the opening day and there weren't a bad side at all. I can't remember who off the top my head, but I know they haven't lost. um So realistically, it is going to be a tough game. Leeds were the other side, though, unbeaten.
00:23:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But we went to Bournemouth and made them look really, really tame. I hope it's not as boring as that game.
00:23:09
Nicola Pringle-Adams
Yes.
00:23:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
I do hope it's exciting game. Hopefully it's the 3-1 because none of us have said it. um But... That is pretty much us for us today on the Daily Newcastle podcast.
00:23:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Big thanks as always to Ian and Nicola for joining me and to you for listening to the whole pod. It's a massive weekend as Newcastle head down to the Amex. Hopefully the lads can put that Brighton reg out of bed.
00:23:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
