hey everyone, welcome back to the Pac South podcast and what a weekend last weekend with regionals. um Where we like didn't have as many upsets this past year and March Madness, we got it in college baseball. That was an incredibly entertaining weekend.

But yeah, no shortage of fun moments um and kind of proven that obviously we're in a weird time for college sports, um but there still is that window for Cinderella's to emerge and kind of win the country over.

confidently, but we still figured it would happen. UCLA, we thought they would steamroll this region. Very shocking. I mean, they were single digits in losses, and I believe even losing out regionals, they still finished with single digits just because of how everything fell.

Yeah, it was shocking. um Truly shocking. As you could tell, we both were like, because we were at this at the same spot. I mean, that' that's exactly where I was going. And then, you know, number two, the regional in Atlanta with Georgia Tech. i mean, they at least got to their final.

They did have to force the games to go to Monday. But, ah and they had the chance and they just absolutely blew it. They gave back a run in the eighth. um And then next thing you know, they get into trouble in the ninth inning and it just a monster of a home run. And for Oklahoma, it's amazing to go to the super regionals, but there's obviously the other side of that. And when you come in with such high expectations as a two seed, you're not talking, oh, we'll win our regional. And you're probably not talking, oh, win our super.

So very fun baseball being made there. With the regionals ending, we had four teams alive from the Pac-South Conference. That was Florida, Florida State, Oregon State, and UCF.

Yeah, I feel like that would be the easy path to take there because UCF was, I'd say, like the furthest of all of our teams away from like actually, in my opinion, legitimately having a shot at getting out of their region.

You know, that's tough because i feel like both fan bases are obviously going to be disappointed here. Anytime you're hosting a regional and your name is Florida and or Florida State, you're expected to get out and at least make the supers.

As we were getting down, going through the regional games and having the wins, I was like, this is going to be a nail biter. ah Florida State, they win their regional. They win the conference. Florida edged them just enough with that SEC tournament run. So congratulations to the Florida Gators on being the 2026 Pac-South Conference baseball champions.

Now, Our other team that made the regional, Oregon State, finished with 109 points, as I mentioned. Third place in the conference. Respectful, not bad.

they've not did they kind of did have it right not in a question but in a statement um because you look at the other teams that are near them in our conference you had ucf 107 who is obviously um not hosting and they're in auburn for their regional as good as they were as good as that record was that strength of schedule just wasn't enough and Truly, it looks like that if they did have a tougher schedule, they would have taken on some more losses. Of course, we're playing a hypothetical game, but you don't even make it out of your regional. It's kind of hard to say that the narrative people were putting it against you wasn't correct. Like, wouldn't you say, I think Oregon State just...

Yeah, they i feel like they missed an opportunity. you know like This was a perfect chance to say, like yes, we didn't play in a conference this season, but we still are top-tier baseball program, and we still should be considered a serious candidate for Omaha. um I mean, I know you and I both felt pretty strongly that this was a good team, despite being sort of like that three seed that they got thrown into.
