Travis White: Hey everybody, welcome back to the PAX South podcast after a smooth Less than 24 hour transition. We are back with part two of this week's. Week one college football reactions to week two predictions and.

Travis White: Yes, finally, Pat. This episode, we are talking about soccer and we're not going to hold. Any more moments, we're going straight into it with a little bit of...

Travis White: Are they legit or are they frauds? Got a couple teams this week. First team I want to throw over to you is going to be South Carolina.

Pat Q: Yeah. um I think. You and I kind of talked about this a little bit before we got started. I think South Carolina is definitely uh in our Legit category here.

Pat Q: um and this is the first time in a while that i think like the men's team has equaled let's say like the pedigree um that our women's soccer team had previously set in a long time. Um, You know, they're 5 -0.

Pat Q: They've got... Some pretty good results mixed in there. A crazy... Um, Back and forth game against Clemson, a pretty thrilling win over a really good Charlotte team.

Travis White: Mhm.

Pat Q: Um, And then most recently beating... High point, too. For those of you who do not follow men's soccer, it is actually kind of like a powerhouse um here in the Southeast.

Travis White: Yep.

Pat Q: so Three really strong, really good wins for the Gamecocks in a row here. And... I'm feeling pretty confident. like I think this is a team that...

Pat Q: As we can kind of see from their results, does not give up a lot of goals. and They're not going to probably score like five or six goals, but that's. Not really super common in college soccer.

Pat Q: On the wide scale I'll say.

Travis White: yeah

Pat Q: Um. But they play good defense. They've got... pretty good control of the ball in the midfield where If they are pressing, um it seems like they have a pretty high win rate on those pressures, which...

Pat Q: always generates good looks or even if you know, you've been on the defensive a little bit can help calm things down, resettle. The team resettled the midfield. um In.

Pat Q: you know, make tactical changes where necessary. So I think South Carolina is legit in terms of uh our men's soccer programs that have either come into this season with high expectations or played their way to those expectations.

Travis White: For sure. and I'll... take over the other two because I kind of feel like they're lump sum. in a way.

Pat Q: good

Travis White: um two Pacific Northwest programs, both in the PAC South Conference as well, Washington and Oregon State. Washington starting the year in the top 10 after. winning the national title a lot. Last year, obviously. loss of expectation for them.

Travis White: Really, everyone was talking about repeating there. um Oregon State, solid program. came into the year not obviously is high expectations but like kind of that fringe top 25 currently sitting at 23 right now Washington just outside. I think both teams.

Travis White: are actually gonna be frauds. Um... I think Oregon State is punching a little bit above their weight, especially in like... date. rankings department.

Travis White: um because they're kind of playing off of each other here um the results you know one here one there you look at Washington, they're Best result this year obviously is against a very good Portland team, and then there are some very confusing results in there as well. Like they have a draw with Cal State Fullerton.

Travis White: who... really should not be in the same park. as Washington, Oregon State. Kind of same thing. We have a draw with Virginia. And then. the back and forth with Washington. I feel like if one of those teams is to...

Travis White: Show yes, we are a legit contender this year someone's got to sweep that. And especially since Washington is not playing at its highest and Oregon State is trying to get up to that point.

Travis White: I kind of feel like the Beavers actually need to be the team. Two. Make that point and that then takes away a little bit from that Virginia draw and Because not to take too much away from Virginia, this isn't.

Travis White: as good of a Virginia team that we've seen. this season. Um, So I just feel like that draw sticks out a little bit more considering that those two have split So, I mean, definitely did not imagine Oregon State.

Travis White: and Washington, both of these teams kind of being at that, like, even mark on their records. I figured one of them would be. Split.

Pat Q: A little bit better, yeah.

Travis White: a little bit better and the fact that they're kind of like playing middle of the road all the way. Still high -level soccer, but I think... When you look at it as our legit team that we have today with South Carolina.

Travis White: They're kind of not really in the same pitch. so i'm I'm putting the Northwest. programs. as frauds as frauds We'll see how the season goes. Conference starting up next weekend. There's a small chance.

Travis White: one of these teams. Can change my mind, but... Based on our early results, they've all had some tests. And Pat has disappeared. And Pat's back again. Um...

Pat Q: I was going to say, you disappeared on my end. I was like, uh.

Travis White: We might have some legit or fraud going on for us as well. Alright. That is our... initiation into soccer is very quick this week.

Travis White: We're going to be going over a lot of our PAX Health programs. going forward. in a very similar format. especially as we get deeper into the college football season. and Everything starts to settle out.

Travis White: with all this legal stuff, hence why we have a part two this week. Um, Our other news that we did not talk about. last episode. with college football. The University of North Carolina has had an interesting...

Pat Q: Very interesting.

Travis White: Yes.

Pat Q: Yeah

Travis White: 15 to 18 months. to say the least. uh News has been out for a little bit. General Manager Michael... Michael Lombardi. no longer with the program after being on an indefinite suspension.

Travis White: Um...

Travis White: I don't really know where to go at it. and attack this um I guess I'll also just say the other bit of news. um that Steve Belichick. is also under. investigation. as well. does not sound good of the initial reports.

Travis White: for him in the investigation but they are still going through it We'll see what comes out. You have these two things, a big dismissal on a big name as your general manager. you're Current defensive coordinator still under investigation.

Travis White: and everything around Bill Belichick. If you're a North Carolina fan, Pat.

Travis White: You can't feel good. You had a bad season last year. Yes, maybe you can put some rose -colored glasses on after the TCU win to start the year, but...

Pat Q: right

Travis White: Really, what's it going to take? to feel better as a program and feel confident. in this Bill Belichick era.

Pat Q: i don't know yeah you know, like. i feel like it's kind of like a one step forward two steps back type of thing in terms of like how you feel about the program, how you feel about the direction that Belichick is leading you in. because Like you said.

Pat Q: It wasn't pretty. um But they did beat. A TCU team that some people had, like, as a dark horse contender for the Big 12 this year. in ireland the ireland games are always weird but um Still, a good win to start off the season.

Travis White: Yep.

Pat Q: you know like not a ton of confidence that the offensive struggles that plagued the team last year are totally gone or totally replaced um but still It's a win.

Pat Q: against another power opponent. You should feel good after that. And then all this news comes out that, um you know. you're GM of the program's no longer there. due to a multitude of reasons. And then one of your key coaches is getting investigated for. um potentially.

Pat Q: utilizing drugs. near or around team facilities potentially providing those to players right like all this stuff that just makes it seem like

Pat Q: you know That circus show that you had last year is far from gone. Ah. And it really seems like Belichick just like. I don't want to say doesn't care.

Pat Q: Um, about like um control you know of personnel of people and stuff like that but it seems like he's taking a very hands -off approach um which is definitely like much different than i think what a lot of North Carolina fans might've expected given like.

Pat Q: how hands -on he was, how active he was in roster building when he was still in the NFL.

Travis White: mm -hmm

Pat Q: um I don't know. like I guess if you can beat Duke this year, beat State this year, like maybe that's something to feel good about. But.

Pat Q: is the offense like really good enough to do that i think is a big question that remains to be seen

Travis White: yeah I um... Pulling up their schedule here Um... Because I think North Carolina... Well sure they didn't look Great.

Travis White: They do look improved. from last year Um, Looking at it real quick, I mean, we have Eastern Tennessee State this weekend. UNC should be able to start the year 2 -0 and then kind of a deciding game for two programs.

Travis White: Um, in week three that's north carolina and clemson Clemson. Got to find their identity. They have George Southern this weekend. We talked about that last episode. North Carolina then with Notre Dame and then Lots of toss -up games in there.

Travis White: um I mean, looking at it. Eight wins is on the table. But I could also very easily flip around for UNC and see four wins.

Pat Q: I was going to say that's a flimsy table that we're putting those eight wins on. um Hopefully there's some ah wrote crow wrote ah rebar excuse me under there to uh kind of firms some things up if we're saying eight wins is on the table uh reminds me of the tweets you would see on South Carolina Twitter last year after.

Pat Q: Repeated losses saying X wins are still on the table. um Yeah, I don't know. I think this season will be defined pretty early for North Carolina. um based on you know the fact that yes this week's a pretty easy game against FCS opponent albeit ETSU isn't like a terrible FCS team but It's a winnable game.

Pat Q: Pretty easy.

Travis White: Yep.

Pat Q: and Then you go to... Clemson. regardless of how good or bad they are. that's Not an easy... sort of place to win um as a visitor and then you get notre dame so um

Travis White: Notre Dame probably not on the table.

Pat Q: I don't know

Travis White: Not in the same room.

Pat Q: Yeah. Yeah, I think you could be staring at... um Jeez. Looking at this. schedule right now. like realistically they could lose

Pat Q: Five out of six games. after ETSU. Guys. Clemson and Notre Dame are tough. Pit. Has looked good the last year and a half since the quarterback change.

Travis White: It does. It does very much hurt them looking at their schedule. Second take. It does hurt. You have Pitt on the road, Duke on the road.

Travis White: Um. UConn shouldn't be as good this year now that Jim Moore is out of there.

Pat Q: That's what I'm talking about.

Travis White: Should be a win.

Pat Q: Yeah.

Travis White: um But then like a Virginia team, which... I still think is good. I don't think they're number 25 good. but I think that they're still good. But if UNC had that at home...

Travis White: Had a little bit of momentum.

Pat Q: This is the story.

Travis White: That could be a win. Um, Nonetheless, I am sticking by if the stars align. They get eight wins. UNC fans may be happy. However, if you get eight wins with this current program,

Travis White: What are you building on? Belichick obviously getting up there in age. I mean, I can only imagine he's got two years max in him.

Pat Q: Yeah. um

Travis White: What are you building for? It was kind of one of those things where everything... They built the staff and you're like, okay, well, Steve Belichick. may be the head coach in waiting here.

Pat Q: Should be nice. I'm not here.

Travis White: And then... I mean, he's currently under investigation. So like, just as a state of a program. Is eight wins enough to fuel? Good. about this year.

Pat Q: Um, I'll say in like a vacuum, yes. like eight wins is a big improvement from how bad at times it looked last year. uh for that team But I think taking everything into consideration, I would still feel greatly confused on like, what is the direction of this program under Belichick? and like you said like

Pat Q: Who's the next guy? right like Is it going to be an internal hire off of sort of like the Belichick tree or somebody he currently has on staff? or Are we bringing in somebody new and kind of reinventing the culture, trying to convince people to donate to and NIL all over again?

Pat Q: um So, I don't know. It should be interesting to see how this plays out. but Yeah, like you said, could go really well. The stars align, but it could also get. really ugly, really fast.

Travis White: For sure. for sure. All right, so that's our coverage on... UNC. For now, I'm sure this may be like a Brendan Sorsby. Going out.

Pat Q: yes

Travis White: throughout the season and again. We'll see what... progresses we'll go into the remaining list of predictions for our week two of college football.

Travis White: Um... pat we're going to go back to the atl Heartbreaking loss last weekend. Colorado gets it done on a blocked field goal.

Travis White: Georgia Tech now welcomes Tennessee to town 18th ranked volunteers. Do we think they get redemption?

Pat Q: I do not. Um, I think. you know I felt very validated. right out of the gates when Georgia Tech lost. and That was one of my preseason sells if you guys have been. you know Following along or listening as we've come back into the swing of things this summer, I just did not have a ton of confidence in that roster to...

Pat Q: Keep the momentum that Haynes King and company built up. over the past two seasons. um as Still think Brent Key is a great coach. Um, But. you know you losing your Guy who is going to be your starting quarterback.

Pat Q: pivoting to The Heisman Trophy winning. quarterback's brother. um you know, could work out. after he gets some more reps under him, but... You can tell he's still a little raw. He's still a little green. um And I think that Tennessee defense is going to come out.

Pat Q: really aggressive and really fast. um Like. Colorado's not exactly a physical team, and they were winning the line of scrimmage a lot. And I think that's really, really worrying for Georgia Tech. um And I'm sure that went up.

Pat Q: Brent Keyes. behind because we know he prides himself on being a really physical football team and well -disciplined on the lines. So I'm rolling with the Vols here.

Travis White: Okay. Yeah. i I also am. There's not a whole lot to hold on to with this one. um You said basically everything. losing ha Haynes King. Um...

Travis White: Really? I think he was like... Not an exaggeration, 85%. of their offensive production last year. Um... And that's just near impossible.

Travis White: to replace year over year. Georgia Tech. They knew they were going to have a step back. You didn't want it to be as big as it looks like it's going to be. They're just gonna have to grow obviously in this NIL era year -over -year growth is so volatile but if they keep everything in place I think year two.

Travis White: with everything going on here Georgia Tech will be back in good shape and back in, like, a winning position in the ACC Conference just very much.

Pat Q: Yeah.

Travis White: this is not going to be that year. And I have falls. big here. Speaking of big. Next game. Big winner. Oklahoma, Michigan. not a lot to say for me i'll pass it over to you pat but i think the sooners are going to Wallop, Michigan.

Pat Q: Yeah. um I think that we kind of. talked about. Michigan and... The question marks, the problems. and that's around that program. a good bit yesterday and I do think that the Whittingham hire was a good hire. Like I i don't think it's time to like.

Pat Q: blow things up and say oh my god like what are we doing here in Michigan? um Bye. Whew. Uh...

Pat Q: Noon could get real ugly.

Travis White: Yeah.

Pat Q: Real, real, real ugly for Big Blue. Um. I am also picking Oklahoma to win this one. I don't think it's necessarily going to be like 42 .7 or something crazy like that.

Pat Q: um But I think it will be a comfortable win for the Sooners. and I don't know And like. They can win. Texas can win. Imagine the hype train that's going to be. rolling as we head down to red river uh both those teams can big pick up those big non -conference wins this early.

Travis White: Yeah, Marquee wins. Obviously, Texas will talk about that game in a little bit. Massive weekend in Austin. ah We'll go from one blue team to another. Kentucky is going to host Alabama this weekend, our first SEC matchup of the season.

Travis White: Um, I feel like this Since this is the first SEC game, we're getting a lot of hype into this. but I feel like this is just really blowing up a picture that's not really there.

Travis White: Um, I think Alabama has a lot of question marks. I think that 12 ranking is... kind of just one of those things where it's like i don't really know where to put them they're definitely not a top 10 team at least right now

Pat Q: Alabama. yeah

Travis White: I think that they're probably low teens, but there's really no one else and nowhere else for people to go in in between. So like Bama sitting at that 12 spot. This is going to be an important game for them. I think if they go out Jump on Kentucky.

Travis White: put up some points and Don't allow Kentucky to score a lot offensively.

Pat Q: Mhm.

Travis White: I think that's great for Alabama's confidence going into the year. Their season starts off with a lot of question mark games. Should all be wins for the Tide. but a lot of question mark games.

Travis White: Alabama wins this. It's just a matter of what kind of display they put on.

Pat Q: Yeah. um I think Kentucky is going to be. Trying to think of... a good comp. for Kentucky. Um,

Pat Q: Maybe like...

Pat Q: like Jed fish, Arizona types of, uh, types of team out here this year where they're fun. But. They're not exactly good.

Pat Q: um So. yeah You know, like I i feel like. They made a good hire. The program will trend in the right direction. um but it's just you know, like It's a little too early to say that we're going to be slaying Alabama. um As.

Pat Q: Kentucky. uh your home dogs for a reason I don't know uh I think... Not necessarily a blowout, right? Like I think.

Pat Q: Kentucky might hang around for a little bit. It's not going to be like the East Carolina game. um

Travis White: Yeah.

Pat Q: But I do think Alabama wins this and wins this. pretty comfy.

Travis White: And go ahead and catch Will Stein in the Alcohol Responsibilities class on Monday evening.

Pat Q: yeah

Travis White: after his comments to the press. Um... Anyway, moving over to a little bit of Big 12 action now. Um, You mentioned fun Arizona teams that may or may not be good. This one might be a little bit better than the ones you just cited. We have Arizona taking on BYU.

Travis White: Massive opening test and conference play for BYU. Noah Fafita back at... quarterback for Arizona that is huge for their offense. defensively. Still some gaps. They have attempted.

Travis White: To fill that in in the portal.

Pat Q: Yeah.

Travis White: This is their first real test of that. BYU, their question marks will be. offensively can they keep up with what would be.

Travis White: one of the better offenses. on their schedule. Pat, who do you see here?

Pat Q: You know, you and I both were pretty high on BYU coming into this season. um So I am going to roll with the Cougars on this one. Just because... I feel like this is...

Pat Q: a better version of the same team we saw last year, which made it all the way to the Big 12 Championship. They're going to play strong defense. They're going to be. pretty balanced on offense. And I think. They just have like a little bit too much in the talent gap department for Arizona to win. I do think this will be like relatively close though. like I think this is probably like a touchdown game when it all comes down to it.

Travis White: Okay, yeah, I'm... In the same boat. Sing them. A lot of trends so far in our predictions.

Pat Q: okay

Travis White: I think this is ah a pretty high -scoring game. I think you're going to have like kind of a... 42 38 45 38 kind of finish Um, Not saying that it's going to be one of those games where...

Travis White: Man, I think BYU is really about to lose this. I think it's going to be a close game, but BYU still controls this. Probably just going to be an annoying game for Cougar fans. You're going to go, why are we letting them stay in this?

Travis White: But I think that... They will still control the pace and the play of this game. So I like BYU as well. Um, Fun matchup next before we go to a few unranked matchups that we Wanted to highlight.

Travis White: But we have the Seahawks this weekend. Iowa State takes on number 21, Iowa. Um, Iowa looked pretty good last weekend offensively for Iowa football.

Pat Q: Pretty pretty good. Yeah. Yeah.

Travis White: Iowa State. Still a lot of question marks. works. I don't love this game as being played at Hawkeye Stadium. Don't love it.

Travis White: I think Iowa. Iowa might send a statement here. I like the Hawkeyes. I think this offense looks... No.

Travis White: Really? For Iowa football? Um. I think Iowa State under their New coach. Lots of new players. Everyone's still getting adjusted.

Travis White: I just like Iowa. I mean, that that game just felt... different. I mean, ah they played God, who will onion me? ah Kind of a nobody, but like...

Pat Q: Northern Illinois.

Travis White: Goose egging 40 nor No, we're not. Sorry, Pride of the Mountain West Conference.

Pat Q: Ha!

Travis White: um

Travis White: I mean, they just look good. Northern Illinois is not going to be good this year by any stretch of the imagination, but I mean.

Pat Q: yeah um

Travis White: 41 points. They threw the ball. They ran the ball. They did what they needed to do. They kept them out of the end zone. Um, I just, I like Iowa. Don't really know how else to say it.

Pat Q: Yeah, no, I think Iowa's going to be really good this year. her Um, I think I was one of those teams where like... just feels like One of those seasons, Iowa can kind of like...

Pat Q: backdoor itself into like maybe being in a contender for the big 10 title game. um Because if you look at their schedule, like. Really the only... quote -unquote scary team in conference play that they have is Ohio State. um Michigan.

Pat Q: We talked about did not look great week one. We'll see how they look against better competition here in week two. Washington also. didn't look great despite pretty comfortably beating their in -state rivals.

Pat Q: um So, I mean... I don't know. like we could We could be looking at a potential playoff team here. due to scheduling and like if the offense is for real and is clicking um This could be like a pretty fun Iowa team to follow as we progress through the year.

Pat Q: um

Pat Q: The Psyhawk likes to get weird, so I don't think that this will like... become a blowout despite what might be like a perceived talent gap between the teams. I think it will stay close. um I definitely like it. Iowa State to cover. I think it's What, 13 and a half, 14 is the spread, something like that. um

Travis White: Don't have it up, but yeah, it does sound right with the opening. 14 now.

Pat Q: In that ball. 14 now? Yeah. i I mean, I like Iowa State to cover that, but... um Unfortunately for the clones, I do think. Do you think Iowa is going to get the better of them this time?

Travis White: Okay. So we're going... Same all the way through. This might be our first. split here we have UCF traveling to Pittsburgh haven't seen this matchup I believe since Ireland? Was it UCF Pittsburgh or UCF Penn State? One of the two.

Travis White: very

Pat Q: Might have been fun to say.

Travis White: as I'll say all over a decade ago

Pat Q: Regan, why don't you come on stage? Yeah.

Travis White: Um... Either way, these two teams have met within the last decade. Um, Really weird. matchup, these two teams. um non -conference kind of feels like it could be a conference game probably because of Old Big East ties.

Travis White: Um. But nonetheless... Year two, Scott Frost, UCF goes on the road. They had... A good showing. last week against Bethune -Cookman, but that's what you expect.

Travis White: Um, Pittsburgh. As I blank on Pittsburgh, I pulled their schedule again. Because I had everything ready for them, and I just totally...

Pat Q: They had a pretty easy walk in the park. last week.

Travis White: maybe Maybe that's all you need in Miami, Ohio. I literally just...

Pat Q: Yeah.

Travis White: I had it. While you were talking and then I lost it. All right. Miami, Ohio, 59 -14. as we try to keep this part two on the rails.

Pat Q: catch

Travis White: um

Pat Q: fuck

Travis White: Good showing as well for them a little bit higher competition The Mac conference we have already talked about the last two days. We are not. Not impressed by everyone in the conference outside of UMass.

Travis White: Um, This is a first real test for both teams and I think both teams look at this game as Hey. Are we going to be... A team that limps to bowl eligibility.

Travis White: Or are we going to have a team that... you know. We're eight, nine wins, and we're taking strides to continue moving forward. I think this game matters. a lot for UCF for their programs.

Travis White: like longevity They're such a volatile program. Like... Couple years, they are amazing. Couple years, they are... in the dumpster. Pitt, I feel like you can always kind of count on them if they go down.

Travis White: At worst, they're 5 -7. Down years are seven and five. That 8 -9 win mark is kind of where you can expect Pitt. especially this ACC era. um the way things have gone

Travis White: With it being in Pittsburgh, I want... To say pit. I'm really... Home dogging it. Um... For my dogs.

Pat Q: Yeah.

Travis White: I uh... I'm going to say a UCF. hi i'm Going to have to. The offense last week did impress me. It was... Very much against lesser competition, but I still did not imagine.

Travis White: The defense was going to get turnovers the way they did. The offense was going to fire. efficiently the way that it did. And. This is a very important game for Scott Frost if he's going to prove.

Travis White: This is going to be a Scott Frost UCF program again.

Pat Q: you

Travis White: So give me the Knights.

Pat Q: Yeah, um I think the really interesting thing for me. uh as somebody who you know, is not. heavily connected to the UCF program. ah Is that transfer pairing? in the backfield that they've got you know you've got The Louisville transfer.

Pat Q: Duke Watson as a starting running back. Or at least he got most of the touches last week. And then, of course, JMU transfer Alonzo Barnett. Um, as The quarterback, so...

Travis White: Mhm.

Pat Q: I don't know. I think it'll be interesting to see how they. work together and pair. um against a little bit stronger competition right like i mean it's not any slight against Bethune -Cookman or anything like that, but... They are not exactly the strongest FCS program out there.

Pat Q: um That being said... I think that this Pitt team... When they made that switch to Mason Heinzel last year, like something just clicked.

Travis White: yeah

Pat Q: And I really think that this is a team that could like. win 10 games this year. Um, Maybe. You don't like Louisville the way I do? but in 11 games this year. Like, it's a pretty soft schedule. If you really like look at it. after this week. I mean, Syracuse is kind of a question mark right now. I think we'll find out a little bit more about them.

Pat Q: in their game against Cal this week. um But after that, FCS team. Virginia Tech who's kind of like... Again, a question mark.

Travis White: Yep.

Pat Q: North Carolina, question mark. BC, who stinks? no offense to bc um miami is probably a loss right if we're being realistic but then The rest of those games are winnable. um Obviously, it's less than ideal to go to the West Coast to finish the season against Cal.

Pat Q: But...

Pat Q: There's no reason that this team can't win 10 games this year. um So I like Pitt. to take care of business against UCF. um And I think it will be probably like a double digit win. and Bye.

Travis White: wow

Pat Q: Yeah.

Travis White: Okay. So we have our first split there. Move on to our final game before our game of the week. We have Memphis versus Boise. and What could turn out to be?

Travis White: Um...

Pat Q: It could be really.

Travis White: The best game of the week, I think. Important game for both teams. Memphis. really showing that losing their head coach didn't matter and that they are the team to beat in the American Conference this year. and surprisingly now two weeks in that no one's talking about them as

Pat Q: The CFP.

Travis White: Yes, we're two weeks into the season, but yeah, the CFP. um They go on the road. They beat a very good UNLV. v team that a lot of people including myself have as the G6 representative. this year.

Travis White: That was a huge win. They turn right around and go home. and play a Not bad, Arkansas State. Not the best by any means for sure, but... should be a very

Pat Q: Decent. Probably seven or eight -win team, yeah.

Travis White: 7 or 8 win team. in the Sunbelt Conference. So then now you go on the road you have Boise State. Boise State. Massive letdown they really let that game like That was their game to win. They lost it against Oregon.

Travis White: um Can they have... back -to -back performances like that again Maddox Madsen, I think he's improved year over year. But you gotta finish the game.

Travis White: especially on the defensive side of the ball. We'll leave you all to do that. Memphis. 42 points. and 27 points in their two outings. They can score, but they're not. world beaters on it.

Travis White: I think if Boise wants to make sure that they stay on that national level. They go to... the CFP talks. throughout the season. They need this win.

Travis White: It's on the blue turf.

Travis White: I got to stay with the Broncos. Also. They are bringing out the retro.

Pat Q: action

Travis White: Idaho Bronco helmet.

Pat Q: heart Yeah.

Travis White: Um, Boys are going to be up for this. ah They know this is a must -win game. It's crazy to say in Week 2. Memphis, very good program, and they're going to have a great season in the American Conference, but I think that this is just kind of a...

Travis White: Boise is just the better team, and Memphis may have been playing with house money. ever since they left Vegas.

Pat Q: Yeah. Hmm. I feel like I know it's come down a little bit, but I feel like when the spread came out, I was really shocked to see it be like double digits. Um. Because...

Pat Q: The one thing that Boise did kind of struggle struggle with down the stretch. against Oregon was run defense. um That's really what let Oregon back into that game, like more than Dante Moore.

Pat Q: doing crazy stuff ah And... Memphis has... really really run the ball well this year i think they're averaging like eight and a half yards per carry or something ridiculous like that.

Pat Q: um So I feel like. Memphis can turn this into like a physical game where they're going to try and limit possessions. Like you said, force Maddox Madsen to be. the guy to finish the games. Of course, Boise has kind of like a two -headed monster they can counter with at running back. Sire Gaines, of course, is...

Pat Q: A beast. um But...

Pat Q: I don't know. I feel like...

Pat Q: I want to do it. um I'm gonna do it. give me Give me Memphis on the road here. Road dog. Coming out victorious.

Travis White: Road dog. More than one score as well.

Pat Q: Amen.

Travis White: um

Pat Q: Yeah, I think they're... What, nine now or eight and a half? Something like that.

Travis White: I think it's eight and a half currently. It means fluctuate between that eight to ten.

Pat Q: All right. Yeah.

Travis White: Um, It would not shock me to see Memphis win this game. I just think that... Boise State overall is a better team, better coached. roster -wise, but... I think.

Travis White: people will have to look at. this Memphis team if they win this game as well because you had The two...

Pat Q: For sure.

Travis White: Going into the season, the two highest teams for the CFP.

Pat Q: See you later.

Travis White: and you beat both of them. um so that's got to say a lot about that program and like surviving the offseason

Pat Q: Yeah. And I mean, like Charles Huff has the opportunity to do like the funniest thing possible um and coach four teams in four years. if he It all clicks into place at Memphis this year. He gets a power job offer. He would have gone from Marshall to a power job in...

Pat Q: Effectively. two seasons, right? Because he was at um Southern Miss last year. Memphis this year. um It's a pretty crazy transition. Right.

Pat Q: He has proven that he is a heck of a football coach.

Travis White: Hopefully he likes New new Jersey.

Pat Q: Huh. Or Maryland.

Travis White: Alright. No.

Pat Q: Amen.

Travis White: now our game of the week uh very clearly game of the week and um I believe this is our game of the week last year as well when we had it. We have number one Ohio State traveling to Austin.

Pat Q: For sure, yeah.

Travis White: for number four texas and Arch Manning. and Steve Sarkisian and everything else that just makes Texas what they are. over the last two, three seasons.

Travis White: Um... Ohio State returning a lot. Julian San expected to have a breakout year, I think.

Pat Q: Mm -hmm.

Travis White: It would be crazy to really not see him as a Heisman finalist this year. This is a massive game for that resume. um Pat, I'm going to give it over to you since I loved...

Travis White: the Boise game so much and had to talk about it.

Pat Q: Yeah.

Travis White: Um...

Pat Q: Cheers.

Travis White: I'm going to give this one to you so I don't... Take too many of the points.

Pat Q: Oh man. um Okay. I think that this is going to be... different than last year you know last year this game was kind of just that physical grind it out, which defense is going to make.

Pat Q: sort of like the big play or the big moment first or maybe even last right um and arch looked Just like shell shocked.

Travis White: Yeah.

Pat Q: Totally out of his element. Julian Sane's first start. um I think both of those guys are going to be a lot more comfortable in this game. I'm not going to say it's going to be like. some barn burner or something like that but i do think we will see a little bit more free flow of the football. um and some more points.

Pat Q: I don't know, I feel like Feel like this is the moment for Texas. you know, to say like. Yes. We have had this crazy hype behind us really since Sark brought them back to the playoff.

Pat Q: and You could argue since Sark returned. our

Travis White: Yeah.

Pat Q: Retain the head coach. um I feel like this is the opportunity to say like that hype is warranted. you know like Yes, of course, you're going to play phenomenal programs and phenomenal teams in the SEC, but this is a chance to beat the number one team in the country. in your house. You know, that sends a message to.

Pat Q: Everybody. who's watching. um Texas does dodge. Georgia this year as well. in the regular season.

Travis White: Mhm.

Pat Q: So. I mean, this could be the statement win, right? Of course, we got to see what happens with LSU. We got to see what happens with Texas A and &M, Ole Miss. Like they still got a loaded schedule. But if you win this football game.

Pat Q: i mean I think they would pretty clearly become the number one team in the country from that point forward. As long as they don't slip up.

Travis White: Sure.

Pat Q: So I think there's a lot. riding on this for texas um in particular like of course we know that ryan day kind of has something to prove a little bit after.

Pat Q: I don't want to say regression. They were still a really good football team last year, but not following up a national championship with another national championship. um

Travis White: Yeah.

Pat Q: And. You know, he's going to be motivated. Julian Sane is going to want to play well. He's going to want to feed Jeremiah Smith the football. I like Texas here. Um, I think the horns are going to get it done.

Travis White: really

Travis White: Okay. I... I think this Texas team... Is better. year over year. Um, I do echo that sentiment. But I also think this Ohio State team. is better. year over year.

Travis White: So I think... We will not have a 14 -7 game like we saw. in Columbus last year. But... I really like this Buckeye team. And in my ranking, yes, I still have Indiana because I'm a firm believer in...

Travis White: You're number one until you lose as a national champion. but This Ohio State team is probably the best team in the country. Um, I expect them to go very far in the playoffs this year.

Travis White: Um... And i think I think they get this win. I think they can get out 11 -1. Probably one of their Big Ten. matchups is going to be the loss they'll still end up in that title game This is just a good team. They are just fun to watch.

Travis White: offensively they probably have the best quarterback receiver combo in the country Um, I think honestly, if I'm a Texas fan. Most Texas fans probably would not agree with this.

Travis White: But... If it's a one score game and it's not like last year. like I think the final score is going to be 31 -24, and I think, honestly, if I'm a Texas fan. I'm okay with that.

Travis White: Like... You... You want to win every game you can. But 31 -24. Arch. Has a good game. It's just... good defense, good offense type of deal on certain possessions.

Travis White: I think that's all you can ask for. You really just need Arch to come out. starting the year. well. I think if he comes out two, three touchdowns.

Pat Q: yeah

Travis White: Takes control of the ball. You got to feel good about the rest of the season. that I expect them to win. you know. maybe one of the games they're not supposed to in SEC play.

Pat Q: Rare.

Travis White: and make a playoff push. I think that's the only way that Texas can do it, obviously winning. boost their resume. But I think the most important thing for the Longhorns. Arch Manning needs to be confident. after this game.

Pat Q: So...

Travis White: ah

Pat Q: I know you're not as high on Texas as I am. um Do you think they get to 10 wins this year? Before a bowl game or anything like that.

Travis White: I think... Regardless of winning or losing this game, it all depends on... arch manning's play i think that if he has like a 180 yard two interception type of game.

Travis White: I think.

Pat Q: Drake, man.

Travis White: that I think that's going to kill him. For the remainder of the season because we've seen that he's very much in stretches In the past, when he's playing well, he's playing really well. But then as soon as he has that bad game...

Travis White: Next game usually follows up. Same thing. He's just... Been in his head his whole career. Junior year, he's older. Maybe he's been able to shake that. but we have to go off of what we've seen so far. so This game. Keep it close.

Travis White: Keep clean with the ball Yeah, I think Texas could be a 10 -win team. Ciao. All right, so. All the way through we are the same until we get to our last three picks.

Pat Q: That's three, yeah.

Travis White: Uh... UCF Pittsburgh, Boise, Memphis, and then Ohio State in Texas. We will have a little bit of rivalry to go over next week. Um,

Travis White: We'll be back. Like I said. next week. We'll talk a little bit more on soccer to start the episode.

Pat Q: fact

Travis White: We will only have one part back to our normal format in that sense. Um, And then, yeah, we can enjoy all these great college football matchups. We no longer have only cupcakes.

Travis White: uh the season is really really officially starting so We will see you all again next time. Thank you all so much for... watching and listening.
