Travis White: Hey everybody, welcome back to the Packed South podcast. We are back again after a little bit of hiatus. Sorry about that. Had a few things happen in the real world, but we're back and obviously opening weekend of college football has happened. And yes, you guessed it. We are unfortunately having to skip over soccer. Once again, we promised we were actually splitting up this episode in two parts. We'll be back again.
Travis White: tomorrow with that. But enough of the super quick housekeeping we're going to dive right into this past opening weekend Pat I know you're so excited. That's what that lab is for Um.
Pat Q: Of course.
Travis White: addressing the elephant in the room. LSU. opened up. at Tiger Stadium with Clemson this past weekend. And they just... Whooped them. I mean this game You could argue as close, or...
Pat Q: canno
Travis White: the opening drive.
Pat Q: Yeah.
Travis White: And then it was all LSU. um Really didn't expect this thought that it was going to be at least be somewhat of a close game Definitely thought LSU was going to come out ahead But in the fashion that they did This is shocking right?
Pat Q: Yeah, yeah. Um, I mean, I liked the line when it came out of LSU 10 and a half, I think was the the final. Um, But at the same time, I did not expect.
Pat Q: Yeah. You know, I think.
Travis White: Yeah.
Pat Q: we've kind of come to expect over the years from Clemson teams. Um, I'll say more recent years that. yes they might lose against superior competition but it's rare that they actually get their doors just completely blown off like that
Travis White: right
Pat Q: um So I don't know. Like, I feel like. Yes. Obviously if you're a LSU fan you should be super confident. coming off that win. Like that's a big win. Sort of a defining moment to start the Lane Kiffin era.
Pat Q: If I'm a Clemson fan, I'm like really. Getting a little nervy about the trajectory in the future of my program. um I don't know, TJ, if you got to catch.
Travis White: sure
Pat Q: The sound bites from Dabo's press conference.
Travis White: Yep.
Pat Q: I think it was this morning Um.
Travis White: Yep.
Pat Q: Or maybe yesterday afternoon where he was asked about...
Travis White: It was yesterday, man.
Pat Q: Asked about his thoughts. what what do you What do you make about Dabo's response there?
Travis White: I just... Dabo is such a... Cat. And I think that this show has... been able to capture my feelings toward Dabo and Not just bias, but just like overall opinion of them trying to remove my bias as much as possible Um,
Travis White: i can't I can't take much weight. into what he says. I mean, he goes into the season and he's, you know, we're we're a bunch of nobodies hoping to be a somebody. I hate that quote because it just kills your team's...
Travis White: Confidence going in to week one
Pat Q: Mm -hmm.
Travis White: Maybe he was a little too on the nose.
Pat Q: yeah
Travis White: with that original quote but i mean yeah i mean the press conferences i really can't listen to what he says and like actually take anything from it i feel like there's no takeaway for dabbo it's just
Pat Q: Thank you.
Travis White: airtime and then If he's lucky and he wins some games like the BYOG. worked out great for him but a lot of times he's just saying stuff and it's just you know whatever so i can't really listen to dabbo and any seriousness.
Pat Q: Yeah, and I felt like... that quip that he made about like, football season is 12 games and you know it doesn't matter what happens after the first game because we tally them up or you know however he phrased it um
Pat Q: It's just a weird way to try and spin zone. getting your butt handed to you you know what I mean like I feel like this has been Kind of Clemson's... thing over the past few years as they've fallen in from college football's elite is refusing to accept.
Pat Q: change obviously.
Travis White: Yeah.
Pat Q: um but obviously Bye. This is new, you know like getting blown out like that They lost to LSU last year, yes, but that was a very close game for most of...
Pat Q: Um, it's duration right but this after that pick six in the first quarter it was Pretty much curtains.
Travis White: Yeah.
Pat Q: Um. And. To come out and say like, oh, well. We only care where we are after game 12. I just don't think that's what Clemson fans want to hear right now. Um,
Pat Q: I don't know.
Travis White: Yeah, I mean... it This is such uncharted territory for them. You have... Georgia Southern, who this isn't Georgia Southern a decade ago either. Yes, they had an 8 -win season last year, but Georgia Southern, as of late, has not been a very good team.
Pat Q: Yeah.
Travis White: And you have a lot of that locker room. publicly saying, Yeah, we're feeling good about Clemson next week. We like our chances. We're excited. We're ready to go And like.
Travis White: You you go back eight years seven years That game is over before both teams leave the locker room.
Pat Q: Mm -hmm. Mm hmm.
Travis White: So the fact that this is the state of it and we still have Dabo going out there going like, ah you know, it's just it's just one game. It's like, well. You look at the bigger picture. This isn't just one game. This is kind of a...
Travis White: reoccurring thing that you just need to embrace and realize we're going to really need to put our head down.
Pat Q: Yeah. Yeah.
Pat Q: And. I don't know. obviously we have a whole season to unfold and I don't want to jump to conclusions or things like that. um But I feel like when we look back on the Dabo. era. in the quote unquote, you know, like Clemson dynasty in terms of running the ACC and things like that. I think.
Pat Q: The first like big blow was probably when they lost to Duke in week one in what, 2023?
Travis White: Yeah. Yep.
Pat Q: Up in... North Carolina. and i Really? Like, I feel like this is... kind of the death blow to national relevance. Right. Like Clemson's. always going to be a regionally relevant program but It's hard for you to petition other fan bases, other teams to take you seriously when you get.
Pat Q: Just... Pistol whipped. right out of the gate.
Travis White: Yeah, absolutely. and I mean, we've talked about OSU a lot, so I'm glad that we're like staying. a little bit away from them because we know what else you have they're very good team. They need to be careful.
Travis White: With what they do off the field especially because Lane Kiffin I mean, yes, they do not have the pro players as the final two roster spots that has been confirmed
Pat Q: Yeah. Yeah.
Travis White: But, I mean, the SEC is being very serious. like If you continue on this path, we will kick you out of the conference. We will take legal action. On top of the... many different legal actions that's already been taken.
Travis White: before the season started by various judges and districts.
Pat Q: All right.
Travis White: so just crazy stuff there but If I'm Clemson, offense going into this game, I knew it was going to be a little bit of a question mark. Only putting up three points. That's disappointing.
Travis White: Bigger disappointment if I'm a Clemson fan. is how many points the defense gave. because They knew. Offense. there were question marks going into the year you didn't want that many but you knew there were some Defense you thought was going to least be able to hold the fort down Keep you competitive in almost every game on the schedule.
Travis White: This was never competitive, even if Even if LSU covers the spread, by a touchdown. You have a 17 -point loss. I think, honestly... both parties. Okay result there. okay result.
Pat Q: Yeah.
Travis White: But the fact Clemson gave up this main point scoring so little. you know. Not happy.
Pat Q: it does
Travis White: Not happy if I'm a Tiger fan.
Pat Q: Yeah.
Travis White: So. We'll move on. We have one more game before we get into a new segment. We're about to debut And. Obviously. the other elephant in the room, you could say. is the Western Michigan and Michigan ah final play.
Travis White: and a half Um,
Pat Q: thanks
Travis White: I'm going to come straight out with my opinion on this. I think Western Michigan won this game and I'm going to treat it. Likewise. i mean Truly, you look at the camera angles. They go to replay.
Travis White: And... They show the exact same thing that we saw and then all of a sudden it's like oh here's this clock and it's like He can't show me.
Pat Q: yeah
Travis White: the clock with the other because we watched it we watched and i just don't understand how There can be separate clocks for the same game
Pat Q: yeah
Travis White: Because, I mean... they should all be synced up i mean maybe that's a logistical issue on their part But that's a really bad issue that is the case.
Pat Q: Read the dialogue.
Travis White: And I kind of think... in 2026 if that's Nah. really possible or it shouldn't be possible. And. One thing I also want to go back and point to not I've seen a few people talk about it, but not a lot.
Travis White: The field goal. That was Michigan Cats.
Pat Q: ah
Travis White: It was like a 38 -yarder. Three seconds came off that clock.
Pat Q: Yeah.
Travis White: Three seconds. That is a... for minimum. But sometimes five and depending on the Clock operator is a six second play. Three seconds came off that clock.
Travis White: Those are seconds at. would clearly not have mattered at the end of that Hail Mary play. They would never have anything to go back and look at. the fact that it made it even closer. But nonetheless, I think they got it right the first time.
Travis White: That ball was incomplete did not matter that his foot was out and then touched it There was still a distance between him and the ball at zero seconds. so
Pat Q: yeah
Travis White: And I'm not a Western Michigan guy. I don't love them They won that football game. They 100 % deserve that. I don't know what your opinions are, but I had to get that off my chest.
Pat Q: Yeah, um I was going to say, it it definitely seemed like a little bit of... home cooking in a way. Uh, four. Michigan for the Big Ten. Um, I don't know, man. like I know we'll get there in a little bit, but this was this was a little troubling and unexpected for Kyle Whittingham's debut.
Pat Q: debut
Travis White: Yes.
Pat Q: Um... you know, all the hype that they had coming in, like, oh, new coach. Yes. We're out of the Sharon Moore era. um We're back to, you know, playing serious football like Jim Harbaugh.
Pat Q: had them doing.
Travis White: Yeah.
Pat Q: um I don't know. I mean, I know that. Rise Underwood's learning a new system. things like that but He did not look good against a Albeit good MAAC defense, but...
Pat Q: Mac defense. Um,
Travis White: Yeah, I mean, Western Michigan is probably the favorite in the MAAC this year, but...
Pat Q: Yeah.
Travis White: that's They're an okay team amongst a... League of... Pretty bad teams this year.
Pat Q: um I don't know. like Cut. I'm kind of with you as well on the whole. difference in clock um because you know we've been told for so long that the um Clock on the field not the score words, but the one on the field is the quote -unquote official clock and both the scoreboard and the field clock. said zero.
Pat Q: But then there's this third replay clock that, oh no, this is actually the clock now. um When. it benefits a big program with.
Pat Q: major history. um and yeah, like now we can do this all over again. And granted, yes, he still had to make the throw, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Bye. I mean, it's hard to come back from that when you're Western Michigan, you know, you just.
Pat Q: Thought you upset a huge in -state opponent. Um. a team that probably some of your alumni root for instead of you. um And then you got to go out there and play it on time down. It's just... It's really brutal. I don't think it's fair at all.
Pat Q: I'm glad that the Mac is trying to appeal somehow this decision to get the record. Righted.
Travis White: Yeah.
Pat Q: Um...
Travis White: And I will say to the oversight committee. It's like well, we have no protocol for ending Or like changing the result of the game that's ended. And I was like, well, guess what? You don't have to change the result of the game that ended it because it ended initially.
Pat Q: It ended at 12 -7, yeah.
Travis White: with the right result. So... this isn't like a Yeah, you know, there was a touchdown with three minutes remaining that should have been called back, so that...
Pat Q: right
Travis White: But it's like, there's three minutes of gameplay. there's Something could have happened. This was the play.
Pat Q: Mm hmm. Mm hmm. Yeah. And I mean,
Travis White: i just think I just think that if they... properly wanted to, that the avenue is there. Thanks for watching.
Pat Q: Yeah, and... I feel like... In a lot of ways, like people who have. sort of migrated away from college football in recent years because they feel like um we're seeing a lot of the same teams win and like yes we have seen some parity and some differences and like who's appearing in the playoff. um But at the end of the day,
Pat Q: It is still kind of big programs making it to the semifinal and the final.
Travis White: Yeah.
Pat Q: I'll be. outside of Indiana. Um.
Travis White: Yeah.
Pat Q: i don't I don't know. This kind of like feels... Feels like the NCAA. The Big Ten. They... New Michigan needed this win, especially with a really tough game against Oklahoma coming up.
Pat Q: uh and they were like yeah you know like but Let's keep them as a ranked opponent. Maybe even just to bolster Oklahoma's resume. Call me an SEC conspiracy theorist.
Travis White: yeah
Pat Q: I don't know.
Travis White: Yeah, Greg Sankey's pulling all the strings behind the scenes.
Pat Q: Yeah, yeah.
Travis White: Okay, well I feel like that... Is the perfect segue. Not Greg Zenke. But... of the Western Michigan, Michigan. ah game into our new series that we will have.
Travis White: most weeks this season. ah But... here after week one we're going to have Pain. and panic now pat Pain. Tough win, tough loss, just tough week. Overall, but you know what you get through it Panic is...
Travis White: were in trouble things have happened whether it's a good result, bad result, just program in general. how we're moving through the season. And that first team we're going to talk about is going to be Michigan. What are you thinking there, Pat?
Pat Q: You know... Just because Michigan always plays Ohio State. because they have. A really tough game against Oklahoma. um I'm going to hit the.
Pat Q: Oh. panic button for them. I'm a little bit nervous on. Not necessarily how this season is going to go, right? Like, I think this probably still is a nine win team.
Pat Q: Um, Bye. Come on, you're... sort of using the excuse to get rid of Sharon Moore, and then bringing in a coach like Kyle Whittingham and promising him more resources, et cetera, et cetera, than he had before.
Pat Q: like That also comes with a little bit weightier expectations and the idea that Michigan at least would be back in the CFP this year. And. after that first showing um I'm not sure how likely that...
Pat Q: really will be. Um, ah I'm definitely worried about them playing Oklahoma, especially with how aggressive that defense is. I mean, we know Brett Venables. really just
Travis White: Yeah.
Pat Q: Kind of goes for the jugular a lot um and If Bryce Underwood's not going to have that same... Let's say like... composure right that we saw him baby steps start to develop last year.
Pat Q: um It could get ugly fast up in Ann Arbor.
Travis White: Yeah. Yeah, I'm definitely hitting the panic button with you there. Maybe this is a slight overreaction on my part. with Michigan but I think just as a program at a whole.
Travis White: You look at how much money you're spending on Bryce Underwood. This is What, year two?
Pat Q: Mm hmm.
Travis White: Um, You know, he should be comfortable. Yes, there's gonna be a slightly new offense, but You're getting paid this much money. College football is different. Your expectations are way different.
Travis White: And, I mean, you kind of can't tell me that this Western Michigan defense. held a Michigan offense. to really seven points.
Pat Q: Bye then. Yeah.
Travis White: If we want to go ahead and call it. 13 points on an extra play. I mean... Even then it's 13 points I don't think this Western Michigan defense is. Good enough to hold a Michigan team. team to that few points, I think.
Pat Q: Right.
Travis White: offensively. They could be in for a world of hurt this year. I think Kyle Whittingham. is a good coach. This is a very interesting start to his tenure at Michigan, considering everything at Utah.
Travis White: Um, But I'm mainly concerned about the investment in Bryce Underwood and having that offense firing because... You look at a lot of the other offenses in... Week 1. Even, you know. Ole Miss they had a big game against Louisville.
Pat Q: Yeah.
Travis White: Closer than I thought it was going to be but still offensively they put up a lot of points you look at every other power team really in the country. They put up A lot of points against their opposition.
Travis White: Michigan won the very few teams that did it against significantly lesser competition. at least on paper right now. So I think I'm big time hitting the panic button. and I'm not confident this is a 9 -win team. I think that they are...
Travis White: a bowl eligible team But they're going to work hard for it.
Pat Q: Yeah. ah Just looked at their home stretch. Might be taking that back. Did not realize that they played Oregon. in Autzen this year, so...
Travis White: Yeah. Yeah.
Pat Q: Yeah. Just going to roll that back.
Travis White: well, and Well, and Good news for you. We're going. to oregon next oregon pain or panic pat
Pat Q: I'm going to go with pain for this one because. I don't know. It seems like Oregon just is cursed whenever they play Boise State. um Obviously, the LeGarrette Blunt punch game comes to mind as one of the first things we remember in that series.
Travis White: Yeah.
Pat Q: but just a few years ago when Ashton Gentry was going off. Oregon took. or Oregon got taken by Boise State right down to the wire.
Travis White: Yeah.
Pat Q: Very similar to the game that we had this weekend. and really But we see kind of had that game. and gave it away a little bit.
Travis White: Yep.
Pat Q: Bye. i don't know maybe it's just like the weirdness that surrounds this game and the weirdness that is... I'd say like general competition between Pacific Northwest programs. It seems like Oregon struggles, not so much against their in -state rivals, but definitely against UW.
Pat Q: And. for whatever reason, against Boise. So I'm not hitting the panic button yet. Um, I had Oregon as my... Number one seed for the playoff. In our preseason predictions, I still feel pretty confident about that.
Travis White: Well, and if we look to history, the last time Oregon had a close game. and won against Boise at home. Oregon was the number one seed going into that playoff.
Pat Q: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
Travis White: so
Pat Q: exactly
Travis White: Yeah, I'm with you. it's a painful weekend that's not the kind of start you want especially because Yeah, Boise State's... probably the Pac -12 champion this year in football. But...
Travis White: Yeah, this isn't... the same Boise State team with an incredible running back in Ashton Gentry. Maddox Madison looks to have improved a bit year over year, but still not the kind of quarterback.
Pat Q: Sure.
Travis White: that you really want a program like Boise considering their history with quarterbacks. but definitely looks like he's improved. Team as a whole, definitely improved, but should not be on the level that they are.
Travis White: Borderline deserving to win. in Oregon. um But yeah painful weekend for the Ducks. I think that this is just kind of a good learning experience they still had very good moments.
Travis White: And their bad moments weren't really that bad. It's just Boise who was also playing very good. I thought this was just a very good football game to watch.
Pat Q: Yeah.
Travis White: Um, But yeah, painful weekend for the Ducks. We'll move over. We had the Labor Day game. one of the contenders. That is SMU.
Pat Q: Yeah.
Travis White: Um, I didn't expect this game to be that close. Obviously there's a lot.
Pat Q: Neither did I.
Travis White: a lot involved with this game. We had... power outage. we kind of had power, enough for lights. um The Florida State band was just blasting.
Pat Q: What?
Travis White: The whole time.
Pat Q: sure
Travis White: Um. There was no headsets, no comms, not a lot of communication, just kind of old school football game. um It's Monday night, very weird setting, weird feeling. No one's going to have a Monday night game again until bowl season.
Travis White: um I'm just going to say this is... painful for the Mustangs. Um... Still not sold on Florida State. I still think they're in the same situation.
Travis White: I think this is almost like the final. false hope. I can't talk. Mike Norvell is getting to me. um The false hope that it's going to keep Mike Norvell. in Tallahassee for a couple extra weeks this year.
Travis White: Um, Because they're like, oh, well, look, we took a ranked team down to the wire. They had to kick a walk -off field goal to, or basically walk -off field goal to.
Pat Q: but edit
Travis White: Take us out
Pat Q: Yeah.
Travis White: And it's like, well... Lots of weird circumstances surrounding the game. I think if this was played... On a Saturday, normal conditions. You don't have a delay. You don't have... everything involved.
Travis White: I think SMU is a two score. win here. um Just weird game. I'm just saying this is painful. I'm not panicking at all if I'm SMU.
Pat Q: I'm a little torn on this one because, you know, the... Odd day. obviously a delay that you were not expecting lack of communication like all of that points to reasons to not really like freak out yet.
Pat Q: um What worried me a little bit was. I'll say like a lack of pocket presence. at times from ken and Kevin Jennings.
Travis White: The turnovers were an issue.
Pat Q: The turnovers were bad, like especially that pick in the end zone where he just kind of like hucked it. 30 yards in the air. and it floated down like a dead duck to the safety. um that That was not great.
Pat Q: Um... That is why I'm going to say. panic But it's not like a full blown panic like Michigan. You know, like I still think that SMU is a top contender for the ACC.
Travis White: Okay.
Pat Q: But...
Travis White: Sure, sure
Pat Q: If you're going to... you know hold your own against really good defenses, you've got to get that figured out. you know Four turnovers can help you beat a Florida State team that's probably going to win like four or five games this year.
Pat Q: um but if you do that against let's say Notre Dame, the second to last. Game of the season, you're probably losing by. four touchdowns if you do that On the road.
Pat Q: Um. Against Abe. better ACC opponent, let's say. like Louisville. you're probably going to maybe not lose by four touchdowns, but lose that football game. um So I think.
Pat Q: helping Jennings you know have a little bit more pocket awareness. um And. He was okay taking the check down a lot of times. i just don't know why he did it like on that play he threw the pick He had kind of like a...
Pat Q: I couldn't tell if it was a slant or a mesh, but he had somebody. probably who would have gotten tackled short of the first down marker, but at least it's a shorter field goal. You're not putting the ball in danger.
Travis White: right
Pat Q: Instead of trying to back shoulder throw a guy who is. heavily covered.
Travis White: sure Yeah. very true there. um Now we have our... Final. entrant into the pain panic um and i feel like we both know where this one's going this is going to be Ruckus.
Pat Q: Rackers.
Travis White: Um...
Pat Q: Maybe.
Travis White: They uh... Lost UMass. And they got. Destroyed. actually by UMass.
Pat Q: you know Yeah. It was not.
Travis White: Um...
Pat Q: What else?
Travis White: I'm putting the whole state of New Jersey. On alert. I'm panicking everything. I'm calling everyone. i I'm getting New York involved Um, Greg Sciano has a lot to figure out.
Travis White: uh Congrats to UMass. This is their first FBS win. in I think two seasons, maybe even three.
Pat Q: Yeah.
Travis White: Um... Congrats to the Minutemen. This is huge for their program for turning the corner. A Power 4 win. I think this is their first Power 4 win since 2005. Um. So...
Travis White: This is... Big for them, but on the flip side of things. This is horrible for Rutgers. You think that you're going to have... Not the best season still. You're still... figuring a lot of things out in a very deep Big Ten conference.
Travis White: Um, But this is one of those games where you're like, yep, that's a win. That's going to help us get to six wins. And you lose it. you're All of a sudden, you're... way behind schedule. A lot of things look bad. A lot of things feel bad.
Travis White: Um... If this was week three and you had a few wins, you know, maybe there's a little bit of recoup, but this is... week one this is the worst way to start your year. Um, I'm scared.
Pat Q: Yeah. Yeah, I am also panicking. for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights because This was a bye game. I think they were like 31 point favorites or something crazy like that.
Pat Q: um
Travis White: It was a large spread.
Pat Q: Because UMass was... Probably the worst team in college football. or Sorry, FBS, college football last year. um And it could get real ugly real fast for Rutgers with their schedule. I mean, like Boston College is far from a juggernaut this weekend. But after that, you've got USC and Indiana.
Pat Q: two out of three weeks. So we we can probably anticipate how those games are going to go. Maybe you steal a win off Howard. Maybe. And then you've got Maryland, who's kind of a question mark. Northwestern, who's a question mark. Michigan, that's probably a loss. Wisconsin.
Pat Q: who knows what they're going to be nebraska probably a loss penn state probably a lot like It could... snowball really really quickly.
Travis White: sure
Pat Q: um They already announced there is going to be a new quarterback this week against Boston College. Um. And... I don't know.
Pat Q: I mean, obviously Dylan Lonergan did not look great before he got hurt. ah but Do we have confidence in the guy who? did not beat him in camp. for that starting position. i' I'm gonna lean no.
Travis White: Yeah. Yeah, no, I... I think it's really ugly really quick. and i Based on everything you said, I think really their ceiling has all of a sudden gone from like, yeah, they could contend for a bowl game to like they're 2 -10.
Pat Q: Yeah.
Travis White: I think they're 2 -10.
Pat Q: see
Travis White: I think that... The Howard game is... probably a win And... Ah, who did you just say? not Northwestern.
Pat Q: Wisconsin?
Travis White: Maybe it was Wisconsin.
Pat Q: Maryland.
Travis White: And it was Wisconsin. Yeah, Wisconsin's pretty bad. Wisconsin is going to look forward to their new head coach, Jason Eck, next year, but we'll get there later on.
Pat Q: They played a great first half against Notre Dame, though. Great first half.
Travis White: Yeah, what was the final score? Yeah.
Pat Q: Ha!
Travis White: All right, so on Rutgers, that will move us into our predictions for the weekend. Only two to pick, and it's crazy for me to vibe pick. ah with only two games to pick.
Travis White: But I'm vibe picking ah the Rutgers -Boston College game. And Boston College, I don't know if you know this, it's in the state of Massachusetts.
Pat Q: Ha!
Travis White: which is also the same state where the University of Massachusetts is.
Pat Q: No.
Travis White: Don't like Rutgers chances. I got the Eagles.
Pat Q: Yeah, I'm also going with BC there. They didn't look... particularly good against Cincinnati this weekend, but they also didn't look... horrendously bad. And I think they just need to not be horrendously bad this weekend to get a win against Rutgers.
Travis White: Yep. Okay, and that takes us to our final pick. Wow, look at that. um We have a border war on Friday night.
Pat Q: I'm moving. ruinin
Travis White: The reason we were only doing two picks is. As I mentioned at the top of the show. We are splitting this episode up into two. so This will be out. uh probably tomorrow, so Thursday the 10th.
Travis White: And then. The following episode will come out on Friday. So, border war. Mizzou? Kansas. this is in lawrence for the first time and like two decades. Do you think that helps the Jerry Hawks at all?
Pat Q: I think it's gonna make it a closer game than maybe it should be on paper. Um... I feel like... I feel like Kansas has been one of those teams, like ever since that breakout season. Everybody's been like, hi. They're going to continue the momentum. It just hasn't worked out.
Pat Q: um
Pat Q: But... renovations to the stadium. Increase capacity. Your... arguably biggest rival besides K -State.
Pat Q: Um, I think emotions are going to be high for this one and more.
Travis White: Yeah. I uh... i mean this is always a nervy game Always a nervy game for both teams. I mean, it was really fun a couple years ago in Columbia when... Kansas came into that with actually a...
Travis White: particularly good team.
Pat Q: Yeah.
Travis White: Um, That was a very fun game to watch. And then all of a sudden Kansas decided to Go back to Kansas
Pat Q: Mmm. osh
Travis White: Um... Missouri is missouri's in an interesting spot. Right here. I think this is a very important game for... momentum going through the season and I think They need to win this game and not just win it. I think they need to win it well. The line's only at five and a half, surprisingly.
Travis White: I feel like that's... quite close for what I'm expecting. I do like this Missouri team a lot. I think it's very funny. A lot of people have them going five and seven. i Think this is a fringe playoff team
Pat Q: Yeah, that's crazy way
Travis White: Um... I think that... they get an upset here or there. they get the extra resume boost. going in and as we look at it i still don't think a 9 -3 team gets into the playoff really
Pat Q: They're close though.
Travis White: I don't know if they should. i don't know if they should but like The way that the Big Ten and SEC schedules are built out this year, We might see one this year, depending on the timing of losses and who the losses are.
Travis White: But that being said. I like Missouri here. Whether Ahmad Hardy plays or not, I think that that offense is going to be too much for Kansas to stop. I love Austin Simmons. I think that he is the perfect complement.
Travis White: Two. drinks offense. Um, I think that he still has a lot of mobility like Sam Horn and Boca Vila had last year.
Pat Q: mm -hmm
Travis White: but he has a significantly upgraded arm.
Pat Q: Better on, yeah.
Travis White: So I really like. Missouri here, and I think that they do get... ah big enough win here. To kind of feel good and start really getting a lot of momentum into the real season.
Pat Q: Alright, just to make this thing fun. I'm going to stand with the sunflower state here. and stand with the Kansas Jayhawks.
Pat Q: in this border war. Do I think that... this is a likely outcome Probably not. But it's a fun outcome. So I'm going. I'll even throw a score on it. I'll say 24 -21 Jayhawks.
Travis White: 2421S. guaranteed field rush at that point.
Pat Q: Next.
Travis White: um As we already mentioned before, the Michigan -Western Michigan game. I have to throw out. That was the saddest saddest build rush of all time.
Pat Q: Yeah, that was kind of crazy
Travis White: Um... Like what? How many, what are they, 24 .5 point favorites?
Pat Q: home
Travis White: They win on a... Ghost. Hail Mary. You stormed the... Bad luck.
Pat Q: Very tough look.
Travis White: bad luck. All right. We'll be back tomorrow. And we promise this time we are talking about soccer.
Pat Q: Yes.
Travis White: And we will also go into a few of the weekend games. for college football as well so Not next week. We'll see you tomorrow. For Pat, I'm TJ. Thank you all so much for watching.
