Introduction and Guest Welcome
00:00:12
Speaker
gonna find my baby gonna hold her tight gonna grab some afternoon delight my motto's always been when it's right it's right while waiting
00:00:28
Speaker
Good afternoon, Delights. I'm your host, Matt Lattimer, just trying to bring you a smile on this Wednesday, but I couldn't do that alone. So I brought on a very special guest, a man that I look at as my own younger brother, but he has his own big brother who's already been on this podcast. That's right, ladies and gentlemen, we got Joey Nave with us today. How are you doing, Joey?
00:00:53
Speaker
That was a good introduction. Usually, they go a little longer, but I don't have an oppressive resume, so we'll see. I mean, we had Jacob and Jen, you know, they're more educated, more elitist. They got the working class line coming in, so this is great.
Podcast Watching Habits and Content Preferences
00:01:06
Speaker
It's great to be here. Don't know if I'm a fan of the show. I only watch the episodes of People I Know, so if I don't know you, I haven't watched a lot of the content, but...
00:01:15
Speaker
I definitely think this is not your calling, so stick to the construction stuff. Football, the CKL podcast, that's where your money is, Matt. That's where the money is, the sports stuff. So this stuff, it's good to dabble in, but the sports stuff is where you make your money. Joey, on afternoon, the lights were not about making money. All we're about is bringing smile to people's faces. I mean, the CKL podcast, it makes me laugh, dude. I know nothing about football, so, you know, you kinda got me eight wins in fantasy, so that's not last and middle of the pack.
00:01:44
Speaker
Well, that's good. We're doing what we can people get out there. Also listen to the C K L pod. We got some good deals at copper kettle chocolate factory waiting for you. But
Sibling Rivalry and Personal Background
00:01:51
Speaker
Joey, why don't you tell the people a little bit about yourself? Give us, give us a background. How did you grow up? What was Jacob like as an older brother for you?
00:02:00
Speaker
So your first question is highly insulted. You're gonna make me benchmark to Jacob. I am far better at things outside of reading and like writing. Dominate them and everything else. So, I mean, you knew Jacob's from like Chapman days, right? Yeah, I've known Jacob since like kindergarten. Yeah, it's like 23 years.
00:02:17
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, me and Jacob were always cool. I was a tad different, so Jacob was always super smart in reading, and I would just play video games, which was chill. We didn't really fight too much other than just for like messing around, typical brother stuff. I never threw him through a wall or anything like that, nothing exciting. I imagine you and your brother, I know you guys have some war stories, so it's probably a little more physical over there at the Latimer household. We didn't have any angry fights, but our play fighting, it got pretty violent sometimes.
00:02:43
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, we were always pretty chill with each other. Jacob and I, we both played golf. So we were somewhat competitive when we were playing golf and both in like high school. But I mean, outside of that kind of like the age gap, like there's only one year where we were crossed at high school. When you guys were seniors, I was freshmen. So that was like the only time where like I would see him at school. So I think that helps a lot because I know
00:03:04
Speaker
I have a couple friends who had siblings in school and like sometimes that can lead to a different dynamic. But I mean, Jacob was always smart. You know, he was always reading, writing. And I was just trying to basically I wasted my time playing a roller coaster. Tycoon three. Greatest game ever made. I played Zoo Tycoon two.
00:03:20
Speaker
Also not great, but I mean me and my brother had a little different hobbies But definitely golf was the one thing where if it ever got a little heated It was probably due to golf or something pretty much it Jacob was always reading Sports Center Harry Potter He hung out with you a lot throughout
Competitive Natures and Sports Memories
00:03:34
Speaker
high school and middle school So like you would always come over and like when you came over it was scary because Matt Latimer brought a competitive edge that was just unmatched at everything and
00:03:44
Speaker
And he was, it was so bad. I mean, I remember one Monopoly game. We played original six Monopoly NHL, original six Monopoly. And there are a couple of times where you just got so mad. Like you basically left and then ping pong, we would play this was like high school when I was, or this was probably like when I was in eighth grade, ninth grade, and you guys were in high school, junior, senior year, we would play ping pong and you would just come over and I would beat you for like three hours.
00:04:08
Speaker
and you would just keep going at it. The only thing that matters is winning and I have to keep going until I win and I will lose a thousand times to get one win. I think I actually only have one win in ping pong against anybody ever. I don't know. You've been around in my life pretty long. Yeah, Joe, I've been in your life most of your life since you were like three.
00:04:27
Speaker
You're definitely Jacob's most competitive friend, and that brings a whole different energy and a whole different vibe whenever you're doing anything. So, I mean, I guess I appreciate it. It's fun to make you angry, I guess, in a way, but I mean, you're better now, so that's good. If you're not out there to win, Joey, what are you out there for?
00:04:44
Speaker
Well, you're out there to compete. So like when you're going up with someone who's far superior, right? Like sometimes you lose. Like if I go play basketball against LeBron, I'm not going to expect to win. I'm not going to go a thousand rounds with LeBron. I'm just going to be like, all right, you got this one. Let's go do something else. I don't know. That's where we differ, Joey. That is where we differ. I don't know. I've seen you get pretty competitive on the golf course. You and Jacob, you talk a lot of smack back and forth to each other. Do you think that you're the better golfer? Because I know Jacob definitely thinks he's the better golfer.
00:05:14
Speaker
Well, I think in high school, like if you just look at the stats, I think I was better, but right now I think Jacob's better. Back in the day, I was probably better when I was playing a lot more, but I mean, now with golf, I just can't stay focused for more than six holes. And then it gets bad, but I think Jacob's probably better right now. If we would go out right now, he would probably win, but it would be very close. Like it's probably almost a coin flip every time we play. I know that I am your good luck charm because whenever you and me play together and Jacob's not there, you always shoot your lowest rounds. And then when Jacob's around, you get spooked.
00:05:44
Speaker
well I have to play good or you get mad and also if I play good it goes faster so then I can get away from you quicker so in a lot of ways it's just like the motivations there let's go out and shoot as little shots as possible and get get off the golf course before this man you know snaps a golf cart or whatever you know
00:06:03
Speaker
Joey, what would you say some of your top golf courses on your bucket list are?
Golf Dreams and Skills Evolution
00:06:07
Speaker
Well, first and foremost, the problem with the bucket list is most of these courses are completely unimaginable. Like it's not going to happen. So you break out first and foremost, the greatest golf course ever made is not a real golf course. If you ever played EA Sports, PGA Tour, the Tiger Woods franchise, there was a course in that game called the Predator. It's incredible. I think the goal in life is to get funding from
00:06:30
Speaker
different resources. They don't have to be the best. But if we can make a real life predator, it would be the greatest golf course in the world. But in Central Ohio and Ohio as like a golf, there's a lot of good golf in Ohio. So we'll kind of go through the list of just Ohio specific. There's a course called Double Eagle. That's like Galena, Ohio, about 45 minutes away. It's really special. It's super exclusive. It's a course definitely I would like to play. Another course is in Toledo, Ohio. There's a course called Inverness.
00:06:58
Speaker
which Inverness is super old, super historic. It's actually where the Rockets play their tournament. So when I was in college, one of my friends, his name was Spencer. He was on the team. I went to one of the invites there. And what was so interesting with that tournament is like, since Inverness is famous and like college kids who are like elite programs, they would go there. So like Oklahoma State has played there, LSU, Alabama.
00:07:24
Speaker
And like, Toledo would host this tournament. There'd be like 12 schools and they would get 10th. That place is pretty cool. The place is pretty special. And then I think the last one, there's this kind of mysterious course that's in New Albany, Ohio. It's just called the Golf Club. It's like super exclusive. The name is just, you know, the Golf Club, but it's definitely one of those that if you can get on, not a lot of people can get on that course. Like, I don't even know who's a member.
00:07:50
Speaker
I worked in the golf course industry and like I never met a single person who had ties to that golf course. I just know it's there and it's super expensive and it's like a very elite crowd. So definitely those, but I think globally, I think most golfers obviously want to play Augusta. That will never happen. And then just cause you know, it's Augusta.
00:08:09
Speaker
And then some of the, probably the old course in St. Andrews, that course is relatively, you can play it, you just have to get over there. And typically you have to plan out like, I've heard three months, I've heard six months to kind of get actual tee times out there. But that's basically the rundown. I would say that with golf courses, like you can go play like a TPC sawgrass where they just have the players. To me, that's not worth it. Cause it's $900 for one round. Not great.
00:08:34
Speaker
But I know there's courses out in California that are also good. So, I mean, you have to throw Cypress Point on the list, Pebble Beach on the list, probably Bel Air Country Club. That's in the Los Angeles area. But those, that's pretty much, you know, Ohio, California, you know, and then the two big ones, the Old Course and Augusta. But those will never happen unless I get a lot better and qualify.
00:08:55
Speaker
Yeah, me and Jacob have been talking for a couple of years. We want to do a big old trip out to Band and Dunes. Four day, five round Band and Dunes out in Oregon. They're adding another course out there. I'd like to do that there's the reports of that Mecca Band and Dunes-ish place being built in Texas. I don't know what the status of that is. If that one ever gets built, I'd like to go there. I'd like to get on Muirfield. You know, Jack's course once, since that's here locally. I think you could probably do that. You got connections in the construction world.
00:09:22
Speaker
I got some connections. I can get on some pretty special courses if I find some rich enough owners, that's for sure. Yeah, definitely. Muirfield's possible. High school, it's pretty cool. It's a very weird golf course because there is are very big, but other than that, it's very hard. Like, you know, driving the ball, you're like, oh, this is going to be a good day. And then like you hit your second. It's just like, oh, this isn't going to be any fun. I'm going to bunker. That's four feet deep.
00:09:43
Speaker
Good, I love living in the bunker for a nice beach day. Other than like some of those, some of the other ones that you mentioned, I just want to play like the places with the best views. I don't even care if it's a special course, like go out to Colorado and play in a course that's deep inside the Rocky Mountains.
00:09:57
Speaker
You would probably like, have you ever heard of Tobacco Road? It's a pretty famous golf course that's like, it's in North Carolina, but it's pretty crazy with like the design, the layout. It's just very like marshy through the trees, very like Carolina-y with the, you know, the pines. And it's, I know, I think I know two guys who've been out to Tobacco Road and they said it's really, really cool. And it's not that ridiculous. I don't know. I don't want to ballpark here, but it's a really cool property. It's like very hilly, very rustic.
00:10:26
Speaker
Yeah, a lot of stuff can go wrong though. Like, we gotta get the game better though, Matt, so we gotta... Nah, it doesn't matter if the game's good, you just get out there. You know, I don't need to get my game better to go and play a great course. Hey, it's more fun when you're striking everything well.
00:10:40
Speaker
That is true. All right, Joey. Now, I know that you know this because I've told you multiple times. I've also told pretty much everybody that I know, but my biggest fear in life is that you are going to die alone.
Dating Life and Preferences
00:10:50
Speaker
You know, every time that we go out to the golf course, I try and get you to download dating apps. So we help you swipe through, find that special someone because I just worry about you living alone and, uh, you know, getting too deep into some type of incel Reddit thread or something. And I just know, I know that you need a special person in your life. So since you're single, it is time.
00:11:08
Speaker
for the second round of Afternoon Delights The Dating Game. Are you ready for this Joey? I mean the last time I watched you had like a doctor guy on here and if he's struggling I'm basically like a hobbit so like if he's struggling it's rough out here for me so definitely excited for this portion of the episode. Hopefully this episode can get sponsored soon without you know how well the podcast is going.
00:11:33
Speaker
oh we're working on our sponsors don't worry but joey i got my first question for you here okay and it's uh it's a pretty simple one what are you looking for in either a man or a woman your choice dealer's choice whatever floats your boat i just don't want you to die alone
00:11:47
Speaker
Let the record show I am straight. So what I mean, I think like, you know, I've actually, when I think back to like people that I've had on and off relationships with, definitely like characteristic wise, I think people who are independent is a big thing. Like I'm a very independent person.
00:12:04
Speaker
And I'm very good at entertaining myself and finding hobbies and getting connected to maybe it's reading all day or watching a film all day. Definitely those types of vibes are good, so independent. And then I think another word that I would center on is I don't like people who are moody.
00:12:22
Speaker
Any people who have drastic mood changes, we have to get rid of that. I don't like that. I'm a very, I'm always just mid, always just never too high, never too low. I'm mid, you know, that's me. I'm the mid hobbit. It's a new Tolkien line for you, Matt. I know you love that one.
00:12:37
Speaker
I mean, for you, Joey, how important is it for your future girlfriend to have common interest with you? I mean, I think that's very important, but I think my interests are, I would say definitely like one thing that I enjoy a lot is film. So like anyone who's in the movies is cool. Anyone who's.
00:12:54
Speaker
I'm not like super outdoorsy, so like, I don't like camping, so no camping, none of that vibes. I think anytime you can do something with someone, I think that's important. I definitely think anything that can be, you know, more common, like, simple. I think that's the big word that I would get back to is
00:13:10
Speaker
you know, just going to a nice dinner rather than going out on a big fancy gala type vibe. We don't we don't like that. So definitely those types of things. Someone who's like independent, kind of low key. I'm like the most chill person in the world. So definitely very calm all the time. Don't really get too mad. Just kind of always just hanging out, having fun vibes. Hi, man.
00:13:30
Speaker
Alright Joey, so we got what you were looking for in a woman, but I want to know how are you going to attract these women to you? What is your, what's your best pickup line?
00:13:40
Speaker
Am I the first Zoomer you've had on the, because I think everyone else is like 30 or 28. I think I'm the first Zoomer on the podcast. You are the youngest person that I have had on the podcast, yes. So Zoomers, we don't, we don't use pickup lines. We use Riz, which Riz for all the old heads out there, it's charisma, but we shortened it to be more annoying. So we just have Riz. So you're asking me how do you Riz someone?
00:14:02
Speaker
I think definitely younger me, a big one was always just going up to someone because there was this whole TikTok trend where you just go up to someone and you'd be like, Hey, my phone's broken. Your number is not in it. That was some riz. That was like a TikTok trend. That was before COVID. That was like 1920. Another thing, I think, I think environment. So like, if you're able to go like to a coffee shop, I mean, I've had success meeting cool people at coffee shops. Like, cause a lot of people at coffee shops, they'll have like laptops or stuff there and they'll be like,
00:14:29
Speaker
a sticker so like you'll be there and you might see someone with a Mando sticker or you know something that you have common interest in and then you can have a good conversation about that. I think you know the old age of going to pubs and bars and picking up women that way. I don't think that happens too much with younger folks. I think most people are on dating apps
00:14:47
Speaker
I have a hinge account. It's not super active. I haven't really been on it for a while, but I think definitely younger people in general. I think Snapchat is another big thing. People want Snapstreaks. People want that fun of silly pictures. So I think definitely just getting a Snap is probably honestly better than getting a number for people who are younger because you can have a Snapstreak and then you can just
00:15:09
Speaker
have good vibes throughout. And I think that's kind of the Riz. I think definitely just finding something you can talk about that A, you know about and B, you know, maybe the person's interested in.
00:15:20
Speaker
Joey, you need to get on to hinge. You need to be more active with it, okay? Because I'm tired of watching you go through this time and time again being alone. I need to see you with somebody special that makes you happy, all right? Because right now I'm carrying that burden on my back alone, and it's tough. I had a good profile in 2022, but I've been slacking ever since then. I've become too much of a
00:15:41
Speaker
When you're swiping and you're looking at these ladies, you need to make sure that when you're engaging with them, start off with compliments, start off with things that are listed on their profile or one of their pictures. Don't just come in with hay and don't be crude. Okay. Be a gentleman to these women. And after you've been talking for a while, you know, you need to ask them out on a proper date. And I want to know what is your first date going to look like?
00:16:07
Speaker
Have you ever seen the movie Karate Kid, like the original one, 1984 Karate Kid? Yes, I have. You know the arcade scene where Daniel and I think it's Ali, they go to that. You just do that. You just go to an arcade, you get ice cream, you play mini golf. It's very simple. Or you can go, depending on time of season, like if you're starting to date someone, you know, winter time when there's zoo lights, zoo lights are good. I know in a previous episode, you've recommended the zoo to your one friend.
00:16:35
Speaker
I think the zoo works, but you recommended like a marathon date. I don't know. I don't know about that. That seems you gave like a 12 hour. You have to do the marathon date, Joey. Cause nowadays you're not just taking somebody and getting to know them on that date. Like you said, you've had Snapchat, you've had the hinge.
00:16:52
Speaker
You've already gotten to know these people over the course of a week or two weeks. The chitchat is out of the way, so the first date is that much more important. It doesn't need to be some super fancy or super expensive thing, no. But women want to see that you took the time to get to know them, find their interests, and plan out and put effort into the date, not just drive up to a Dave and Busters and pay and play video games. They want to see that you took real effort in planning and caring about the date.
00:17:21
Speaker
I think nothing you said is wrong, but I mean, again, man, long dates can just not go well because sometimes you might get bored or you might lose things to talk about. But now Joey, you know, we're really trying to attract these women. You've said what you wanted in a woman, but
00:17:36
Speaker
these women that are listening are thinking, why should I date this guy that just called himself a hobbit? And do I really trust Matt's judgment on just a blind date or on this podcast? So I need you to tell these ladies, what is your best quality?
Qualities for a Partner
00:17:53
Speaker
Why should they pick you over everybody else?
00:17:56
Speaker
Well, Matt, if you've ever read JRR tokens, first of all, the hobbit comparison, the hobbits, they saved, they destroyed the ring, they got the job done, you know, so I think definitely the best thing about me is I'm very sarcastic and I'm very calm. I think that definitely goes a long way in relationships because I think that, you know, if there's fighting or there's
00:18:16
Speaker
drama. I don't really do that. So like, I think definitely the coolest thing about me is that I'm always just chill. And then I'm also have good lines. I have good one liners. I'm not very tall. So that's where the Hobbit comes in. But definitely, I mean, hobbits are cool. You know, they live in the Shryer, they do their thing, and then they go out and they slay the dragon.
00:18:34
Speaker
So like definitely a fighter, a grinder, a workaholic unfortunately. That's something we're working on. It's trying to work a little less so we have more time for other avenues. But definitely I think the cool thing about me being chill and now I learned how to cook. So I've learned how to cook very well. And I think another thing is like my actual living space is very normal. I know some other single men who have like
00:18:57
Speaker
the mattress is on the floor and it's just a bad situation, you know? So I definitely have a nicer apartment than some of the other single guys I know where they got lawn chairs out in the viewing area. So you're saying you're more mature than the average person your age? Oh 100%. That's what you want, they can fade it, okay. Yep, definitely. You know, not a child, more along the man route, definitely.
00:19:21
Speaker
All right, Joey, last question here really quick. Jacob refuses to try and teach Jen how to play golf because he wants that to be his last bastion of hope. Does your significant other need to be a golfer in the future?
00:19:33
Speaker
I mean, I don't think you need to. I personally think everyone should play golf. I think golf is dope. So like, if you're new to it, it just gives you something fun to work at. I mean, going to the golf course is fun because you can drink, you can drive a small little golf cart. I mean, I'm not anti. I think Jacob is just anti women. I'm more pro women than Jacob. So I think that's the big thing. I just try to grow the game. You know, deep down, I'm just an ambassador for the game of golf. Always have been. So, you know, I've worked in the golf industry. Jacob has not. So I think golf is for everyone and everyone should start.
00:20:03
Speaker
playing it, whether it's, you know, going to a driving range or going to an actual golf course. I definitely think that a significant other of mine, if she is not into golf, I think I could get them either interested in the golf or I'm willing to, you know, play. And yeah, definitely. I think, I think Jin should play golf. Look, ladies, what Joey's trying to say here, he's beating around the bush.
00:20:26
Speaker
But I think realistically, if you don't have common interests with Joey, he's going to kick you to the curb real quick. So if you're listening to this man's voice and you're like, this is the guy for me and you don't play golf, start taking up lessons soon. And I mean, you could you could have you can have an engagement ring by the end of the year. If you're a lady and you play golf and you start getting with Joey, probably getting a ring by the end of the year.
00:20:48
Speaker
I mean, you don't even have to be play golf. We can work at it together. It's fun, it's challenging, and it's definitely something that two people can do together. You can just go vibe on the driving range. The driving range I go to, it's definitely a lot of newcomers, so there's no pressure to go out. Everyone sucks in the beginning, so there's nothing that they'll be sad about if you're not good.
00:21:09
Speaker
All right, Joey. Well, we'll move on from the dating game. I think that you've put a lot of good information out there. The podcast is trending women listeners. We're getting more and more every week. So I think we've got a really good shot of landing somebody for you here. I'll throw it in the Toledo discord. I'm still in. There's like 300 of us from my freshman year in it. Good. Throw it in there. Grow the pod. All right, Joey, it is time for everybody's favorite segment.
History and Debate: Gatorade vs. Prime
00:21:31
Speaker
A little bit of afternoon delights place at the table. You ready for this one?
00:21:36
Speaker
I did not prepare for this segment. That's good. I'll handle this one, Joey. Now, being athletes like we are, out of shape, overweight, lacking height males, we understand what it's like to try and fight cramps and keep our energies up while doing physical exertion.
00:21:53
Speaker
Some people, they turn to pickle juice. Others turn to salt tablets and water. But in 1965, one College of Medicine sought to be different. And the College of Medicine at the University of Florida, they started to develop a new drink to help fight low blood sugar,
00:22:09
Speaker
blood pressure fatigued throughout football games. Now the earliest version of this beverage consisted of a mixture of water, sodium, sugar, potassium, phosphate, and lemon juice. And during the 1965 season, 10 players were given the chance to test the drinks during practicing games and it was quickly deemed a success. Now the name of that drink was Gatorade.
00:22:28
Speaker
That is right, ladies and gentlemen, Gatorade comes from the University of Florida, and it got its name just because it's the Florida Gators. That's the Gator part, and then they combined it with aid to help represent a sense of health. Now, if you know Gatorade, you'll realize the spelling's a bit off, though, because aid is A-D-E. Now, originally, the intention for Gatorade was to call it Gatorade, spelled A-I-D, but this was changed because the researchers wanted to create a commercially viable product.
00:22:58
Speaker
and not a scientifically validated one. So they decided that they couldn't use the AID suffix because if they marketed the drink that way, then they would have to prove that it had a clear medicinal use and perform clinical tests on thousands of people. So they decided to leave out the aid or clinical test on thousands of people and leaving it as AID would classify it as something other than cola or a soft drink. So they changed the name to ADE. Now in 1967,
00:23:27
Speaker
the Florida Gators won their first ever Orange Bowl versus Georgia Tech and they contributed part of the victory to the fact that they had Gatorade and Yellow Jackets coach Bobby Dodd when he was asked why his team lost replied, well, we didn't have Gatorade. That made the difference.
00:23:44
Speaker
After that win, the drink began to take off in athletic circles. And in 1969, the creators of Gatorade entered a deal with Stokely Van Camp Canned Beans Company to manufacture and sell their Gatorade for commercial use. And in that same year, Gatorade became the official drink of the NFL.
00:24:03
Speaker
After only four short years, Joey, Gatorade went from being created to the official drink of the NFL. That's a pretty wild timeline. Now look, in 1983, Stokely Van Camp was acquired by the Quaker Oats Company for $220 million during a bidding war for the Pillsbury Dough Company in order to gain the rights to Gatorade. Then, Quaker Oats was acquired by PepsiCo because they wanted Gatorade for their soft drink lineup for a whopping

13 billion dollars. That is some crazy growth right there in less than 40 years Gatorade hit a market value of basically 13 billion. I know Quaker Oats also has a lot of other products so maybe half that but still billions of dollars in a few years. Then it's early years Gatorade consisted of a single product line the Gatorade
00:24:49
Speaker
thirst quencher in liquid and powdered forms under two flavors, lemon lime and orange, and they remained the only two flavors for nearly 20 years until fruit punch was added in 1983. In 2001 Gatorade started getting into solid foods with the Gatorade energy bar and then in 2002 they introduced the ice drinks as lighter flavors.
00:25:09
Speaker
And they came in strawberry, lime, orange, and watermelon. They're the transparent colored ones, rebanded to Gatorade Rain, rebanded again to G2, the low-calorie one. And it's pretty much just kept growing since. And right now, Gatorade is the highest selling sports drink in over 10 countries. How do you feel about that, Joey?
00:25:25
Speaker
Well, I'm a Zoomer, so we drink Prime. I don't know if you know about Prime. Prime is definitely from the YouTube world. It comes from KSI. It comes from Logan Paul. Basically, anyone 24 and under could care less about Gatorade. You know, we are all on Prime. We got Prime the sports hydration drink as well as Prime the energy drink. There was actually a pretty big scandal a couple of weeks, probably end of December, where all these moms were angry because all these kids started drinking these
00:25:52
Speaker
It was right around when charged lemonade was going on with like the caffeine and that guy died. Prime Energy has 200 milligrams of caffeine and it's in a can. So all these moms get mad at this company because all these kids who were definitely like, we'll say 14 to 18, they were just cranking these energy drinks.
00:26:09
Speaker
and it was this whole disaster but anyone anyone you get the old guard has Gatorade that the like the super fitness guard they have the body armor i don't like those people the body armor crowd they can get out of here so prime i'm a prime guy Gatorade we respect Gatorade you know but i think Gatorade is definitely on its way out you know prime is the future if you ever watch UFC fight prime is not the logo and the octagon prime is signed with the LA Dodgers and what's Gatorade doing just mediocre sports
00:26:39
Speaker
Yeah, being the official drink of the NFL is pretty mediocre. And ladies and gentlemen, don't even listen to Joey. I have never once seen this man have a prime energy drink. And I have seen him chug about 40 Gatorades on the golf course. He's a Gatorade fiend. Right now, we have prime, we have the ice pop, one of the best flavors.
00:26:58
Speaker
Literally wipes the floor with Gatorade. The Prime Energy in the 12 ounce can. Incredible product. Electrolytes. Caffeine. You can't beat it. Gatorade was so worried about Prime they came out with fast twitch. Have you had a Gatorade fast twitch? I have not had a Gatorade fast twitch now. It's the energy version of Gatorade. You should try it. It's garbage. They lost.
00:27:19
Speaker
You know, I just saw online a few grocery stores that have prime marked under the clearance section because nobody was buying them. So I think you need to get your facts checked, Joey, because Gatorade now and forever reigns supreme. I think, you know, my, what I'm bringing to the table, this is the name of the segment, right? This is what we're doing.
00:27:38
Speaker
It's afternoon delights place at the table. This is the place at the table for afternoon delights at your dinner table. When the conversation gets stale, you bring up the topics that you learned on afternoon delights to share in discussion with your loved ones.
Fun Facts and Flavor Drafts
00:27:54
Speaker
I might have two actually. So number one, Chuck E. Cheese, right? Hear me out. Chuck E. Cheese. They have obviously the mascot, Chuckie, right? The mouse. Yes, his name is Chester Entertainment Cheese. Yeah, but you know the name of the chef mascot that Chuck E. Cheese has? You can Google it if you don't. He is a mascot named Pasquale. He's this, you know, he kind of looks like Mario, big chef, big mustache.
00:28:16
Speaker
You can actually go on an app like DoorDash Uber Eats, and you can order Pascuali's Pizza, Pizza and Wings. You can do this tonight. And it's just Chuck E Cheese Pizza. It comes from the place right down behind Chili's on Salma Road. It comes from that place.
00:28:32
Speaker
So there's fake restaurant called Pasquale's Pizza and Wings on Uber on DoorDash. You're gonna go spend 25, 20 bucks on a pizza and it's just gonna be a Chuck E. Cheese pizza. It started during COVID and it's still out there. So if you ever see that pizza restaurant, do not get it. Cause it's just Chuck E. Cheese pizza. Now Joey, are you ready to get into this draft? Okay. We are gonna draft the best flavors of Gatorade. We're gonna try to get the five each. Do you want to draft first or second? I guess I'll go second.
00:29:00
Speaker
All right. Well, my first pick for best Gatorade flavors is the true one. Oh, one. Oh, and I'm taking glacier freeze. Look, glacier freeze. It is the light blue Gatorade and it is hands down the best of the best. It quenches your thirst. It's smooth. It's got just the right amount of sugar. You know, it's got like a little bit of sour with the right amount of sweet. It's like drinking a sour patch kids sometimes just not quite
00:29:22
Speaker
as sour. It's the best tasting. It gives you the most energy. If you're walking in and that's on the shelf, you're taking that 99 times out of 100. It's hands down the best blue of any of the blues when it comes to Gatorade. I mean, that's a good pick. For my pick, I think definitely to counter that, I think you have to go with a classic.
00:29:39
Speaker
I think the most classic, iconic Gatorade flavor, the one that pairs best with the Loco, looks best in the bottle. It's the one you want to have. It's the Lemon Lime Gatorade, but it's the Lemon Lime Gatorade in the 24-ounce sports bottle. With the twist-up,
00:29:54
Speaker
That is the best Gatorade product on the market. It's definitely mostly at gas stations. You won't see it other places. But if you're in a gas station and you have the choice to go get a Gatorade, you get the lemon lime, the 24 ounce twist top bottle because you can spray it. You can just have so much fun with it. It's just a great experience and a good product.
00:30:14
Speaker
You're not wrong, that's my number two pick, is the lemon line Gatorade. It is the most classic of classic flavors and it hits every time. And you're 100% right, the twist top tall Gatorade. It just tastes better. There's just something about it. It's just more fun. Gotta give you kudos on that one. Give me pick number two.
00:30:31
Speaker
So for my second pick, this one might surprise you. I'm going with an actual Gatorade Zero flavor, because it's a tad healthier, it's a tad more fun. It's the Gatorade Zero flavor. I believe it's Glacier Cherry. I think that's still what it's under. It's the white one. Whatever the white one is, it's...
00:30:48
Speaker
Definitely one that like, you know, most people would jump to a red who has time for a red Gatorade if you're wearing white It's gonna be a bad day. But the glacier cherry one is just the zero. It's gotta be the zero. It's very good So we're going lemon lime one glacier cherry to glacier cherry. It was in my top five. That's another good pick Some people don't like the white one for some reason, but I'm with you. It's delicious I think if it was red, it would be more popular but people get confused by the color. I
00:31:14
Speaker
Yeah, but you're right on it because the thing that I don't like about the red Gatorades is that they stain your mouth and everything more than the other colors. 100%.
00:31:22
Speaker
Okay, well, my number two pick, Joey, I'm taking Riptide Rush. One, it's just an awesome name. Probably the coolest name of any of the Gatorade flavors. It's basically the purple version of Glacier Freeze. It's the best purple Gatorade on the market right now. It far outpaces the standard grape and the G2 Rain or whatever they wanna call it. You just feel good when you're drinking Riptide Rush. Makes you feel like an elite athlete, even though you're not.
00:31:47
Speaker
Yeah, I think that's a fair play. I think that's definitely one that gets the job done. I think definitely I am out to an early lead, but this is kind of where my list takes a drop. So you'll probably be able to catch up.
00:31:59
Speaker
Well, look, my number three pick, I'm going with another classic, Joey. You got lemon lime, but I'm not letting you get both of the original flavors. I'm taking orange at number three. Yeah, I figured that was coming after you ruled out red. Orange, you really can't. I have nothing to compete with that at the three spot, unfortunately.
00:32:17
Speaker
No, it's a great flavor. I mean, it's right up there with yellow. It's pretty close. And other than like orange Kool-Aid and orange crushed soda, this is the best orange drink that you can have. And what I respect about Gatorade is every other candy, every other anything, blue and purple are always the two best. And then up there with like red or pink, that's always the best colors. And then orange and yellow are always down at the bottom for everything for Skittles, for Starburst. Doesn't matter. They're down at the bottom, but Gatorade, they're different. They change the game. Those are their top colors. Their top flavors.
00:32:47
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, I think we've taken the titans off the board. Now we just have scraps left to pick up. I would have to counter your pick, though, with a... I mentioned it earlier, Gatorade Fast Twitch. I don't think you've ever had one, but I'm taking the Fast Twitch. They have a strawberry watermelon one. Gatorade Fast Twitch, you get the, you know, it's an energy drink, so you get 200 milligrams of caffeine and electrolytes. It's a good product. It's a good flavor. It's strawberry watermelon. It's gotta be in the Fast Twitch bottle, though.
00:33:14
Speaker
Yeah, I haven't had a fast twitch. I tried to stick to just the original Gatorade thirst quencher lineup. I do love the Gator lights though. Yes, yes, definitely. All right, Joey, give me pick number four. Oh, I mean, a lot of good stuff has been taken off the table. So I think for this pick, I honestly think for this pick, we have to go back to the well somewhat. You've taken orange and you've taken
00:33:37
Speaker
I hate grape, so grape has to be eliminated. Grape is literally medicine. No one likes grape. I think those three products are the three products I would choose now. I would say outside of Gatorade, I would go propel before the Propel Flavored Water. I would go propel before any other flavor of Gatorade because the rest of the Gatorades, they're just fake flavors. They're just like surge blue.
00:33:59
Speaker
through verbs in front of colors and it's mystic rush. It's just doesn't, it's not a real thing. Lemon lime, everyone knows what lemon lime is. So I would say my list is complete and I think, I think that's it. I think definitely the products I named, they're better. Now I think I would hit you with a wild card potentially. Have you ever had a Gatorade? Have you seen the new bottles? The, I think they're called like, they have like the pods. I have seen the Gatorade pods. I saw a video of it today. They looked wild.
00:34:28
Speaker
The pods are actually somewhat good. So if anyone out there hasn't tried, I've just recently got a pod bottle, but I mean, in terms of flavors, I don't think there's anything else that's even worth mentioning. I think the pods I've been going with Glacier Freeze, but I also have a strawberry raspberry pod that I want to try. So I definitely think that's my list is, you know, classic lemon lime. Nothing beats the lemon lime 24 ounce bottle.
00:34:52
Speaker
Joey, the fact that you said that you don't like Gatorade but you're buying the pod bottles just to be able to have it at your house goes to show that you lied to all of my listeners and that you do in fact love Gatorade. But Joey, I'm not done with this list because I do top fives here and I have a top five. I had a top eight and then I stopped because I knew you wouldn't be able to take them all because I know that you're not good enough to know all of the great flavors like fierce grape. I love artificial grape flavoring. It's my number four pick.
00:35:17
Speaker
It is one of the best artificial flavors in all candies and in all drinks. It really doesn't matter. And I might be one of the lone people in this great, but I like the fierce grape. And then for my last pick is like, do we pivot to the original fruit punch? You know, it's one of the, it's one of the original three flavors, but I think that it's lacking something and I want to go a little bit crazy with my last pick and I'm going to take fierce green apple.
00:35:42
Speaker
I don't know if you've had this one. It's the most candy tasting of all of the Gatorade's. I love it. Packed with sugar. It's interesting, you know, you just have it every now and then and it's like a special little Gatorade treat. Everyone out there go get a prime hydration ice pop. It'll change your life. It's literally, you know, the firecracker popsicles with the red, the white and the blue. It's that in a sports drink. It's incredible. I don't know. Maybe I'll give it a try, Joey. Most of the crimes aren't good, but ice pop, it's literally probably one of the best things out there.
00:36:11
Speaker
I think we've got some good list here, Joey. Now let's move into our last segment here, The Afternoon Delights Book Club.
Book Recommendation and Episode Wrap-up
00:36:18
Speaker
Tell us, what have you been reading recently or what is your all time favorite book that you would recommend somebody read? Well, I think I've been reading a
00:36:28
Speaker
interesting book. It's by David Graeber. Shout out David Graeber. It's called Bullshit Jobs. It's basically an interesting look at corporate America from the point that he's an anthropologist and a college professor, and he just goes through why every single job, the majority of jobs in corporate America, why they're worthless and how they demoralize the overall human spirit.
00:36:50
Speaker
It's an interesting book. I think it came out in 2018. I read it during college. I still have it. I still reread it this winter, but I would recommend David Graber. Bullshit jobs. A theory.
00:37:01
Speaker
I'll put it on the list, Joey. And, you know, I'm glad that you could come on. You were a great guest. I think the people are going to be really interested. You know, let's get some more Toledo Rockets listening to this podcast. Yeah, definitely. Thanks for having me. I'll throw it in the Discord. We might throw it a link in the Twitch on the old Twitch account. I used to have a couple of streams up there. I once had one hundred and ninety one viewers, all time personal record. So we'll get we'll get some people drive to this.
00:37:25
Speaker
All right, Joey, that is a good tip. Well, thank you for coming on. You've been a great guest and thank you out there to everybody listening. Hopefully we got you smiling this week, got you talking with your groups of friends and coworkers about what they think the best Gatorade flavor is. Thank you for tuning in. I'm your host, Matt Latimer, and I'm just reminding you that it's a good day to have a good day.
