In this episode of Currents, I offer some beautiful experiences people have shared in sessions where I’ve channeled the energy of money, share a bit more about my personal journey with the energy of money including the origins of my vision with it and some context for what I mean when I say “money is a mirror for our relationship with love.”

"A gentle touch of care on someone's back. A warm meal or a coat. The potential to ask for something and for someone to give it," these everyday acts of care reflect the true essence of what money represents—an energy of exchange, support, and love. By shifting our perspective, we can begin to see money not as a symbol of lack, but as an opportunity to grow our capacity for love, generosity, and mutual care.

Why and how is this a spiritual path?

Working with money is a beautiful journey and maybe one of the most challenging out there (You may or may not have heard the teaching that “it’s easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to enter the gates of heaven”). This is because it digs deep into our beliefs around our identity, sense of safety and self: about who we need to be for money to come into our lives, who we are if we have it, and what it means to let it go.

That’s what makes it such a potent part of the tantric path to engage. You see, I am not one of those manifestation gurus who’s promising you’ll become a millionaire  if you align your energies (although you might). The reason working with money is profound is because it offers a path to liberation:

“Working with money is not about getting more money... the beauty of working with money is the opportunity to see a part of ourselves that we didn’t know was there.”

When you bring the light of awareness to these parts to create healing, there are real-world effects, so doing the healing work with this frequency might mean overcoming the fear of/being better able to invest your money. It might mean overcoming beliefs to receive or ask for money for your nonprofit or work. It might mean you envision a whole new kind of currency or way of living that doesn’t even need it anymore. Or maybe you just become happy with giving and receiving whatever comes with deep gratitude for the opportunity to experience both …. just like love.

No matter what the external expression, what matters (the point) is a right and loving relationship with money and with love itself that affords more love, freedom, beauty, and wonder in our lives and in the world around us.

So take a listen. I hope it serves you in shifting your relationship with money so that it can lead to a more abundant, loving, and resourced life for all beings everywhere. ✨

Beyond Monetary Gifts: Exploring Care and Belief

00:00:03
Speaker
A gentle touch of care on someone's back. A warm meal or a coat. The potential to ask for something and for someone to give it.
00:00:22
Speaker
It's the capacity to receive, even if you're not doing something perfectly or maybe getting to have someone believe in you enough to give of themselves, to see what you want to see in the world happen.

Money and Love: Societal Projections

00:00:45
Speaker
These are things that and aren't necessarily typically associated with the idea of money, but these are all things that have come through different sessions,
00:00:57
Speaker
visions that people have had and or experiences when they start to engage money as something not evil or inherently projected on by our society, but when we dig really deep down into the space of our heart and negotiate money from a place of reflective depth, truth, and honesty with the emotions and feelings that we have around it.
00:01:28
Speaker
It's all a mirror. And ultimately, what it mirrors is our relationship with love and care itself. This is what makes money so sticky.
00:01:43
Speaker
Ultimately, everything boils down to our relationship with love. What we think we need to do to get it, what we think of others who have it,
00:01:58
Speaker
Money offers an object to project all of that onto, which is why it carries so much heaviness, because we are carrying so much heaviness.

Personal Finance Journey and Spiritual Challenges

00:02:14
Speaker
My journey with money ah is an interesting that one that actually goes back into my heritage. My grandmother on my mother's side made a name their surname, if you will, is actually the Chinese character for money itself. So there's a through line to the story here. Both of my parents worked in finance and I shunned the idea of money for a long time because I cared about the more important things in life. Connection, community, and spirit. I thought
00:02:56
Speaker
that because my family was so obsessed with money, that they didn't care about the things that I cared about. And therefore, I needed to care about these things, which were more important, which meant that I had to put these ideas about money being most important aside. Turns out, as is usually the case, both sides have some validity. And in the course of my journeys, I ended up struggling.

Money as a Conceptual Technology

00:03:26
Speaker
with the idea of money, I think as a lot of spiritual people do. And in coming to a reckoning with it, sat down in a journey visioning space at one point, meditating on the energy of money. What is it? Why is it here? And what I saw was something really beautiful. I saw this diamond-shaped crystal as I tuned into the actual core energetic of money itself, this beautiful crystal of light that was effusing, sort of small little dust-like particles of light. And as I tuned into what what this thing was, my sense was that this was some sort of technology gifted to humanity that was not generated necessarily by us.
00:04:25
Speaker
but a sort of gift, something to work with, to use, if you will, as a concept. The essence of money ultimately is an idea. It's a construct, right? It doesn't actually exist beyond our idea of it and all of the ways that we've agreed that it it exists.

Love and Money: Tokens of Core Energy

00:04:50
Speaker
So it's a conceptual technology that's been given to us as ah as a species, as a being to work with, to use the tool to be able to trade and create things, to share of ourselves and our works. But ultimately at the spiritual essence of this technology, what I was sensing is that it has a core function. From a spiritual perspective,
00:05:20
Speaker
It is here to mirror our relationship with love. Now, what does that mean? What does that mean? It's here to really mirror our relationship with love.
00:05:36
Speaker
Like most things, we project onto other people, things, situations, and Money offers us, again, this this core essential object that is here to say, this is a token, a representative of our core energy, our our care, our essence, our time, the things that we put our attention and effort into.

Self-Worth and Love in Monetary Exchange

00:06:07
Speaker
It's a it's an object that allows us to trade made that as sense essential sense of self.
00:06:15
Speaker
And so of course then all of our beliefs about that get projected onto this aspect, this token, literally token. to So what then can I do with my care? What then is my effort, my life, my essence worth to any anyone?
00:06:40
Speaker
Does anybody care about it? Can they receive it? Do they want it? Can I receive it from someone else? Am I deserving of that? Does someone want what I have or not?
00:07:01
Speaker
Will someone give me what is so deep and true to them as their love? Or do I need to twist and turn myself into something else?
00:07:13
Speaker
Can I let others see that I have something so beautiful to share? Can I bear them really even taking that in? Do I feel like I need to manipulate others or myself or someone else's idea of what is valuable in order for them to give me what is valuable to them? Or can I be really honest and receive the fact that maybe someone doesn't want what I have, or maybe they really do.
00:07:55
Speaker
This at the core is what money is about. And so all the ways that we feel that we can or cannot receive love are inherently conscious or subconscious.
00:08:14
Speaker
tied up in our relationship with money.

Monetary Struggles: Beliefs on Love and Self

00:08:21
Speaker
Now I've worked with people who have struggles with money and I've worked with people who have a lot of money.
00:08:30
Speaker
The issues might be different, but the issues are still there. And part of the reason that the issues are there and that money is here Like all things in our life from this nondual perspective, there is an opportunity opportunity here to use this mirror as a mirror for cultivation, reflection, consciousness, evolution, and growth. Because what this mirror is saying to you is the important thing.
00:09:05
Speaker
Working with money is not about getting more money, although that can happen as a result. The beauty of working with money is the opportunity to see a part of ourselves that we didn't know was there. Any struggle with money is showing you some belief that you have around money or love or other people's perceptions of you or your perception of yourself. And so therein lies the gold. I've had and I've seen people have many challenging experiences with money that allow us the opportunity to realize, oh wow, I actually have been holding back love and care. Why is that? Where does that come from?
00:10:01
Speaker
Is it even mine or is it ancestral? Is it a belief that's been passed on to me that maybe I don't need to believe anymore? Can I ask for something and bear the possibility of disappointment or overcome the idea that I will be disappointed?
00:10:27
Speaker
These are all experiences that money has offered a gateway into either for myself or for those I've worked with.

Risking Money: Insights into Fear and Care

00:10:39
Speaker
And the beautiful thing about money is that it offers a very, very direct feedback loop. Risk even 10 or $100 and you'll start to see your stuff come up really fast when you're dealing with money here because the risk of losing it, wow,
00:10:59
Speaker
is the risk of losing love, care, your effort. And so everything that you believe about what your love and care is actually worth, how people will show up for you or won't, whether you will be abandoned, whether you will lose it and it will never come back, all of that shows up the minute you put something on the line.
00:11:30
Speaker
It's a beautiful way to be able to work with these deep and challenging aspects without putting our relationships on the line. Although it may involve those relationships as well. But again, this is a mirror. And what a powerful one at that.

Envisioning Trust and Abundance with Money

00:11:53
Speaker
The ultimate pursuit in working with money for me is, again, not just more money. but in visions that I've seen, a Buddhic-like state where, to where just as with love, we're able to give and receive, let go and let come with a pure awareness and understanding that whatever is right and true
00:12:31
Speaker
is what is being received, and that there is an inherently abundant supply of love and care in the world.
00:12:46
Speaker
This is ultimately where we're trying to get with our relationship with love, isn't it? To be able to let go and let come, to trust that it's here for us, to believe wholeheartedly that this universe is one that is full of love, unconditional love, regardless of your performance or what it is that you're doing, how, who, and to see your life filled with loving relationship that is regenerative and lasting.
00:13:31
Speaker
Imagine if our relationship with money could mirror this kind of relationship with love. What would that look like? What would it look like to be able to give freely and to receive freely? To be able to do things from a place of our heart and to receive in response? What would it be to be able to give?
00:13:59
Speaker
to invest, to look at money with a clear eye, one that is caring and that desires to put it into things that are regenerative and generative.
00:14:14
Speaker
Wanting to see all the places that we put it foster more love, more goodness in the world, and trusting wholeheartedly that it is coming back to us.
00:14:29
Speaker
Maybe we won't get quote unquote more, but maybe the ways that it comes back to us feel nourishing and create more and more lasting love and care and a strong ecosystem around us.

From Scarcity to Resource Flow

00:14:48
Speaker
I see a lot of lack in the world and this is where greed comes from. This is where scarcity comes from. Even in the worlds of social change and impact, there are so many stories.
00:15:00
Speaker
No one wants to give to me, it's so hard. No one wants to fund this kind of initiative or effort. But these views are often myopic and so tied to our own narratives of victimhood, of lack, of people not being able to see us,
00:15:31
Speaker
In certain industries, there's actually more money out there than nonprofits and organizations can actually handle. And this is exactly a mirror of our challenge. There is actually way more resource sometimes than we can handle. And so what is it to not look at the lack of resource as the problem, but our own capacity as the thing to bring awareness and attention to?
00:16:04
Speaker
What is it to step into a greater capacity to flow, to channel, to hold, to care for money or love as a resource in our lives? And to say, how can I do more good? How can I let more flow through me to the places where it is appropriate and not feel like I need to grab or hold on to or be afraid of whether there will be something after this.
00:16:46
Speaker
When we start to break down these beliefs and associations with money and with love, we find a greater perspective beyond ourselves.
00:16:57
Speaker
we start to feel ourselves connected to and a part of a larger ecosystem. Because we start to realize where our care and our support actually comes from, that it is not solely individually sourced, but comes from all around us. That our capacity to care and act in the world is actually nourished and supported by thousands of ancestors, millions of plants,
00:17:28
Speaker
billions of beings that create the air that we breathe and the water that we drink and the food that we consume, all of this fostering lives that can be of service.
00:17:43
Speaker
And so as we take the blinders off, we can start to invite a fuller relationship, a fuller collaboration, spiritually, relationally, financially,
00:18:00
Speaker
to flow more through the system.

Money as Flowing Water: Generative Potential

00:18:03
Speaker
Lynn Twist is one of the sort of originators of this idea of energy of money as a spiritual aspect.
00:18:15
Speaker
And like she says, money is like water. If you hold on to it, it stagnates. Water wants to flow. Water wants to foster and create more life.
00:18:32
Speaker
Meanwhile, plants in the ecosystem, when water flows, starts to drink in and actually create more water. It is generative. Money can be generative because our love can be generative.
00:18:55
Speaker
Now starting to take care of money can
00:18:59
Speaker
sound like a lot of spreadsheets and detail. And let me tell you, sometimes it is. And sometimes that part that is most difficult is the part that we most need to tonify, to bring our attention and awareness to places that we might have otherwise wanted to tuck away and never look at.
00:19:27
Speaker
Those are almost always often the places that need the most attention.

Reflection on Personal Money Beliefs

00:19:34
Speaker
And so I invite you to consider what is your relationship with money? What are the places that you don't want to look? Because therein often lies the gold. And it is not just about gaining more wealth.
00:19:57
Speaker
rectifying, healing, and making more beautiful your relationship with how you can invite the energy of support and care and yes, ultimately love into your life.
00:20:21
Speaker
In these energy sessions, often the energy of money just feels like this pure white light this divine ringing bell kind of frequency, I invite you to let that in and to notice all the parts and places that have resistance, that deny, that want to put that part away.
00:20:56
Speaker
to not let that part in or to not let that part out.
00:21:06
Speaker
Let me know how it goes.

Writing a Letter to Money

00:21:07
Speaker
If you ever want to explore a session, please get in touch. And in the meantime, one fun exercise to do is to just write a letter to money itself, as if it's a person.
00:21:20
Speaker
And I really in invite you to actually break out a pen or a pencil and piece of paper and write a letter to money. Dear money... da da Whatever you want to say to it, whatever you want to express.
00:21:38
Speaker
I hate you and I wish I didn't need you in my life. But I resentfully want to have you, take you.
00:21:53
Speaker
I wish it was easier to work with you so that people could love me for who I am.
00:22:01
Speaker
Dear Money, I wish you were here but that I didn't have to pay any attention to you. Just start writing and see what comes up, and you'll start to see what it is that you believe about money,
00:22:23
Speaker
and about care.
00:22:27
Speaker
I hope this is helpful. The reason that I'm doing this work and this podcast is again, there's some connection with abundance and fullness and the energy of money and love that I've been personally working through, but also I wanna see those who are doing good works in the world thrive.

Overcoming Monetary Barriers for a Loving World

00:22:53
Speaker
I want us to be able to eventually move beyond money ultimately. But in order to do that, I know that we have to work through it.
00:23:04
Speaker
And so working through it is going to look like more love, more reciprocity, more giving, more investing, more nurturing.
00:23:23
Speaker
And I'm not saying that stuff's not going to come up, it definitely will. But if we can move through it and beyond it, I know that what's available is just a more beautiful and loving world, one that is fully resourced and capable to usher in what I know we all need right now.
00:23:49
Speaker
So I hope you'll join me in this exploration. I hope this was helpful and offered some food for thought. And I hope that it supports you in whatever journey you have or having have had with money to be able to find a more loving and beautiful relationship with it so that it can serve you, nourish you and all of those in your world.
00:24:19
Speaker
Thanks for listening, and I hope to talk to you again soon.
