wanted. Would you say investigation or just like a ah ghost hunt, you know, where you go and just kind of do your thing with not really like investigating, investigating? What would you call it? Uh, kind of both because like I just started going to places. So I don't really have anything. I had a pair of dowsing rods, but I returned them because I didn't, I didn't like the way they felt in my hands. But like, I just bought a new recorder, which is super exciting. And I just went through my recordings last night and I was like, please let there be an EVP and there's nothing that I can hear. I was so bummed, but like my friends that that I go with, they just have book bags and cases and rolling cases full of gear. So it's like, I don't even need anything, but I do want to get my own stuff eventually. So yeah, it's definitely like both for sure.

As far as like, as far as new equipment, sorry to jump in, as far as like equipment that you want to get in your own, what are your like main things that you're like, Oh man, I really want to have this as part of my like, um, investigation tools. For sure. Dowsing rods, because I just, I, I don't know, like I like the electronic stuff, but I also just kind of like to go off how I'm feeling in the situation. And I kind of just like a dowsing rods because, you know, they're just. copper wires, they're not anything electrical or anything like that. And my friend told me that he, he's another like researcher investigator, he said he would give me a pair that he was gifted that he doesn't use. So it was like, okay, cool, I'll try those out. um I don't know, maybe like a REM pod or something. ah Probably I've seen people have like an obelisk, which is really cool.

yeah those Yeah, those are definitely all great, ah great starting points for sure. Um, obviously like you probably already have audio recorders and stuff like that's most basic thing you can do what you already have. So yeah, I mean, the REM pods great. Um, a lot of people like dowsing rods, just like another form of, uh, you know, if they're, I think they're interesting because they're, you can definitely use them for like found finding water and stuff as well. it's um yeah ah It's mid orange correctional facility. It's in Warwick. That's a hard word to say. New York. OK, cool. um But you were telling me about how they were like renovating some of it. Oh, I hate it so much. It it totally bums me out because like it's this just to give a quick background on it. It was I had seen something where it was built in 1914 and used for something else, but I had only seen that one spot. I was trying to dig a little deeper and I came up with nothing, but

In 1932, it was used as like a boys reformatory place. And then by 1976, it got switched to a prison like a men's prison, um medium security. And then it closed in 2011. And ah yeah, that's Pretty much. So it was like active for a long time. ti Yeah. And so now I guess it got I guess it got sold and it sat kind of abandoned for a while and then.

I don't know, somebody bought it and they're turning it into like a sports complex. So like you get there and the one main building, I guess that used to be the officers building is now turned into kind of like you walk in and there's vending machines and there's an office and like you go pay or whatever. And there's bathrooms and stuff in there. And then then you walk out and you walk out one of this big fake turf, like grass turf with all these soccer nets and all these big stadium lights around. And then here's the field and behind it is all these old brick buildings from the early 1900s. It's like, what's going on here? It's just so, it's just a weird vibe. That is very weird.

yeah out yeah And I wonder, you know, um like if they, you know, have a soccer game, you know, because fans can get kind of rowdy at times. I wonder if they energy just amps everything up. Because I did I did hear that, like my other friends had been there before and they said that they they they would get there when when there was games going on, you know, and eventually they would leave because we had to rent it out from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.

No, that sounds ah um sounds like a really interesting place and definitely a spot we'll have to keep on my radar because um yeah I'm always looking for new places to check out and that seems like a pretty cool spot to check out. so it's It's amazing. it's First of all, it's huge and we weren't even allowed in one of the buildings because it's so overgrown.

Like when you first pull in, there's a huge building off to the side and and we couldn't we weren't allowed in there. And then the rest of the buildings we were allowed in, but there was do like dorm rooms and there was a set of dorm rooms and then behind that there was another building of dorms and we wanted to go in there. but it's so overgrown and of course it's the middle of summer. So we had to be careful because there's definitely snakes around. So I wasn't messing with that. If it had been, you know, like late fall or winter and been cold out and I had, you know, like boots on, I definitely would have went back there for sure. Yeah. I don't mess with snakes. No, no, no, no. No, I don't blame you. I don't blame you. We don't have time for that.

Yeah, let's, let's talk Panhurst. Cause we can talk Panhurst for a while. Yeah, I have never been. And Laura has never been. no Phil, you're the only one that's been. yeah And I mean, I've, so I've seen a you know lot of specials and you know, all the ghost hunters. I mean, pretty much everyone who's anyone has been to Panhurst, you know? So yeah, I know a lot about it, but I just have never been. Yeah. So it's an incredible place as far as like the history for those people who don't know it's in, it's located in Pennsylvania, spring city, Pennsylvania. Um, it originally started as a school for the feeble minded. It was just a different terminology that they used it back then. And so it was a school where, uh, developmentally disabled children would go and be, they'd be sent there. They would live there. And of course in the early days, in those days, any, any kid that had any type of disability would be sent there.

and not even just mental or learning disabilities. We're talking about crypto maniacs. The list of things and was very, very long as far as it wasn't just like ah people that had learning disabilities, it was many different other things that they all kind of categorize as one thing. and they called it feeble mindedness. It started probably in the 19, I think it was early 1900s, maybe the 30s. I don't remember the exact date of when it opened, the first place opened, but they had a lot of farms there. They made the the children work and stuff kind of self-sufficient and then kind of it grows, gets bigger and bigger over the years, becomes more overpopulated.

and this kind of all comes to a head in the 1960s where this local TV station, I forget the guy's name to give him credit, but he had found out, I don't know how we had found out, maybe anonymous tip, something. He finds out what's going on at Pennhurst, so he goes there to document it, does a documentary on the abuse happening there, how the people are being treated and does like, I forget how many parts, maybe a six part series, four to six part series on TV that really documented all this this horrible things. We're talking about ah kids and children that didn't know how to walk because they were in beds their entire lives because they didn't have enough nurses to put down mattresses so they could learn how to crawl. So therefore they never learned how to crawl. So they couldn't learn how to walk. So then like, okay, well, we, these people can't do, we're just going to put them in beds all day. And so that's what they did.

And so they had a lot of people in beds, you know, defecating themselves, not being able to be changed because for every nurse there's 50 patients or I think it was something like that, maybe 25. And then for every doctor, like 50 patients, one doctor, something like that was absurd. So that even if they, by the time they got done, like changing them all or feeding them, it would already be ready to like feed them again. So like, they just didn't have a lot of time to like do things. And so a lot of abuse happened. Um, obviously not even just that stuff, ah like abusive, physical abuse between patients, physical abuse between ah doctors and patients. Obviously, sexual abuse gets involved as well because you know there's not a lot of people watching and um just a lot a lot of bad things. So the documentary is called Suffer of the Little Children. It's on YouTube. Anyone can go check that out. um I highly recommend it. If you've never seen anything about painters, it'll give you a really graphic view of, I mean, they do bleep stuff out and stuff. are like you know But um it'll it'll give you a view of like what it was really like there.

Um, so these people really, really suffered there for sure. And I'll tell you one more story about like how another part of like, so if a patient was like violent with another patient or a doctor, nurse, whatever, uh, they'd get one chance if they did it again, or I think maybe if they bit, maybe they bit someone, if they bit someone and they did it more than once, they would just rip all their teeth out. They would just take, put it, go to go, bring them to the dentist, rip all their teeth out. And in most cases without anesthesia. which is awful. And it's, I know that is true because we were walking through one of the buildings, the infirmary building, and this is where the dentist office was like literally right outside the dentist office where all these horrible things happen.

um ripping people's teeth out without anesthesia. and And that's what it was. If they couldn't say they wanted anesthesia, they wouldn't give them anesthesia. That's what the caveat was. Look, I'm just remembering this all right now. um So we're I'm standing outside this room. i'm we're taught I'm literally just told the same story I just told you. And then right inside that room, I think we were like, oh man, who wouldn't want anesthesia? And right inside that room, someone says, yeah, You know, so super, super sad. Um, that's kinda like the history of Pennhurst. Um, but yeah, just a wild place, a wild, wild place. Um, yeah, that's kinda like the history. Uh, I've been there, God, I've been there probably like three times, two times to do like parallel investigations there. Every single time caught a ah lot of crazy things there, but, um, I don't, I feel like I'm talking too much. So I don't just open it up for discussion now about Pennhurst if you want.

I have something to add to that my because like I'm going in September and my friends have been there a few times and my one friend. This is actually the first conversation I ever had with my friend I was at a party and I sat down next to him and I knew I had heard that he was a paranormal investigator and I was like, Oh, Cause I had like just started the podcast and I was like, so, so tell me about this, you know, what happens, what goes on? Cause I was just, you know, wanting to do all this stuff. And you he actually showed me a picture of.

one time that he was at Pennhurst, I think it's been twice now that he's gotten bit supposedly at Pennhurst. And it was like through a sweatshirt and he showed me a picture and he's like, if you look at it, you can see it's not a full bite mark that there's teeth missing out of it. And I was just like, holy crap. Wow. That's crazy stuff. it is It's nice. Yeah. Yeah. Now that's wild, especially now with the history too, you're like, holy moly, that's crazy. Yeah. That is nuts. Yeah. Pennhurst is a crazy place. It's wild. I found out, I found out about Pennhurst a long time ago. I was in college, so it was like, oh, six. Cause I went to college in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, which is like a town over from Spring City.

And what's really weird about it is I didn't know about Pennhurst until I went to a ah youth convention because I went to Christian college. So I went to this youth convention in Connecticut and met someone that went to the same school I did. And he's like, you guys, he's like, he was telling us about Pennhurst and it's like, Oh yeah, we used to go there, explore it. So I was like, Oh. He told us about it, told us how to get in, told us where to park and stuff. So by the time we got back to college, we're like, oh my God, we have to go there. We went online, we downloaded all these maps and all this stuff, like as much information as we could. Of course, this is back in the day, this is 06. This is a long time ago. So like back in 06, it was still abandoned. Like it wasn't open for like public yet. Not only that, like everything was still in there. So when we went in, yeah, it was nuts. It was nuts.

So when we went in there at 06, um, we went during the day to scope it out. We found that we found it like how to get there and stuff. So like, all right, we know how to get in. We'll park here. We'll come back at night. So we went back at night. We park, we go walking in. And yeah, we go walking in like where the infirmary is now. Well, what I know to be infirmary now. And then we kind of like go downstairs into like the tunnels and stuff. And the first section of tunnels was like completely flooded. Like the stairs were flooded. We couldn't even get down there. So we go down another set of tunnel and we finally get down below. And in one of the big rooms, they have like all these kids polio braces, you know, like polio, the kids braces and all that kind of stuff. So they had a bucket full of these braces.

And all of these like ah children's restraining chairs, like a little like talking like little teeny chairs where like they would like strap their neck back or their arms down the neck back kind of that kind of thing. Probably if they were violent or something. um Just a lot of like, just everything was there like ah documents and I mean, you name it. It was there. It was crazy. And this is like obviously a long time ago now. So it's not back in those days that there was still like a lot of stuff in there and it wasn't as damaged and stuff. Um, even back then I was kind of, I was into ghosts, but like not, I wasn't like a paranormal investigator. We were just going cause we were like, this where this is cool. You know what I mean? And there was a couple of times inside Penders where we had to shut the lights off cause we're like, Oh, there's someone around. We hear somebody, you know, down the hall, we, you know,

And of course, there's no one there. um So yeah, and actually, I'll tell you a crazy story about ah like Penner leading out. So we investigate or not investigate, I shouldn't say that we walked around the place and then we're like, all right, we need to get out of here because we saw cops kind of like circling the buildings and stuff. So we're like, all right, well, I think we've extended our stay. We've got to get out here before the cops show up. And so then. We're about to leave. We're like kind of like outside the building in like this wooded area near like the one of the streets that they have right near there. And so we're like kind of debating whether or not we're like going to leave or or stay. Should we wait for the security to drive by then leave? So that way we know we're not going to get caught in the road with them there and as soon. And then I'm telling you, so this is out of this God or if this is a whatever. It's very strange. So all of a sudden.

A large, like something big or branch or something snaps and like falls down to the ground. And so as soon as we hear that, we all like fall to the ground. We have all the lights are off. We're just like laying there. And as soon as that happens, we're all laying there. A cop car drives by on that same road that we were going to walk on. driving like 50 miles an hour. it would ah You would have hit us, no doubt. and so we As soon as you see that, we're like, all right, we all get up. We're like, let's go. and so Yeah, we we ran out of there. We made it out and all that stuff, but that was my first Pennhurst experience.

I don't understand where it was a school at one point to a classroom. So if you go through, I mean, there are so many buildings and there are so many rooms in these buildings. It's it's literally like a maze. Like if you you could easily get lost in there if you were by yourself or weren't paying attention. And so it's like. you know The one level, if you go downstairs, there's this whole like thing where you'd have to buzz to get in. And then they have the glass where you would go speak at the window. And that's like on the lower level below the classrooms. And then if you go into that office in there, they have all these keys. like It's really cool looking. There's all these hooks with all these keys and numbers. and

And then they have like a whole box of of cards. I don't know what they were for. They have different things like I think I saw one that said like boys bathroom or something on it like 1986 and I I took a picture of that one and i'm just going through and there's all these like stuff and then there was books on the shelf of like um kind of like binders filled with papers, but I didn't I didn't go through those because it's honestly, it's like we had it for so long. I left at 1245. I didn't stay till two because I had to drive all the way home and then be up for work the next morning. But I mean, most of the time when I was there, I just spent exploring because it's so overwhelming. There's so much cool stuff to see that I didn't really investigate a whole lot. Yeah.

Yeah. Well, especially like a big place like that, Penner since it's like that too. It's so massive. And what I think what people don't realize is um before you go there is that all those underground tunnels are all connected. Oh yeah. Yeah. So like back in the day, you could go from one building to another without having to go outside at all. Mid Orange had those and and we went down and then someone, cause you know, we kind of split up. There was maybe like nine of us together, all together, but we were in different groups. And the one girl had called my friend saying that the tunnels were flooded and I was like, what, there's tunnels underneath here? And he's like, yeah, we normally go through them, but they're, you know, it's kind of like what you were saying that they're connected and you could go through underground. And I was super bummed out because they were definitely had a couple inches of water in the bottom and I wasn't messing with that. Yeah, that stinks. And, um, yeah, when you, when, ah cause I hope we can make this happen. Cause I was, I want to go to Pennhurst again, so bad, those tunnels in Pennhurst.

Yeah, our next level. Yeah, I've heard oh yeah like the one area like that's where we caught a full body apparition down in one of those tunnels, which is absolute. I still can't believe it happened. And what's really crazy about the whole experience. It's not one of those things that like, oh, um Somebody ah saw this saw some one thing and no one else are multiple people saw this thing like like shadow down the hallway we take a picture and then we catch it and what's really strange is of course the girl that was like leading us because i guess i'll set that up a little bit better so when you go to penders when you're doing the group.

investigations and stuff, they'll bring you to an area and they'll basically tell you the haunts, they'll basically tell you a little bit of the history of that area so that way you're kind of familiar, you know, who like who to ask for, that kind of stuff. So she's explaining, doing that, she's doing that bit. And this is the first part of the investigation. So no one has been in this tunnel at all. We're the first group. So there shouldn't be anyone down there but us. So behind her, there's like this plastic sheet, maybe like, I don't know, 40 feet down the tunnel. And behind it, when we snap the picture, it looks like a figure of a man, like standing behind the sheet, like, you know, kind of making himself look big, kind of a thing. Super, super creepy, especially, um, what, because in that tunnel specifically, there's a ah entity or, or man down there, but a lot of people think it's him because that's what it key claims to be. But he's the one that, uh, people think that like is the sexually assaulted guy. And the one that it's so like, he really likes girls and, and young women and that kind of stuff.

um and it it kind of played it played out that way too because there was a couple moments where The word bank when we were I was near one of the ah like a few of the other girls it kept it said like honey and you know stuff like you know, it's kind of stuff like that um and then of course to get the figure you're like well um But yeah, so um you will definitely enjoy the tunnels the tunnels are absolutely what I mean Penner's in general is absolutely wild. um And then every time you guys go back, they open up more and more. So I'm excited for you guys to go there because this it's going to be absolutely incredible. You guys will definitely catch stuff there.

Yeah. Well, my one friend that's going with us, he, that is like one of his, like, that's his side job. He is a tour guide at Pennhurst. So I'm like, this is so sick because we are going to have the whole place to ourselves with somebody that actually works there. But you know, it's just us. I'm like, this is, this is going to be so freaking cool. But if I can definitely, you know, we should have room. I talked to the girl in charge of booking it and stuff and she just has to like double check and go over her stuff. But you can definitely come if I have, if we have extra space for sure. Yeah, that would be awesome. And I have been there before so I can, um, I'll go over all my videos too. Yeah. go And I'll be like, all right, these are the places where we had a lot of activity. Cause I mean, there's many places where like I caught a bunch of EVPs in there, like throughout the entire complex. And like I said, there's even newer places that they opened up.

That I haven't even been into yet yeah So that's that's always that's what I like about Pennhurst the most because like you can go like year to year and every single year you go back There's like something new that's really cool that they do that because you would think it would be the opposite You know if stuff's deteriorating Yeah, it's more of like they're trying to get to all of it And you know, they're kind of doing like a little bit as they can kind of a thing. You know what I mean? I story from my friend if you want to, if you guys want to hear about it. So he, the tour guide, he, I guess he was trying to do, I forget where he said he was, but he was trying to do an EVP session. And I guess there was a little girl ghost there and they were talking to her and he had ah a group of people there and she was asking questions and he's saying, Oh, do you like dogs? I have a dog at home.
