Speaker: All right, guys, welcome back to the Savage Boston live stream, podcast, whatever you want to call it. Here today, I'm Scott with Savage Boston. I'm here with Brett, my co-host, and here with Bryson from Title Talk, podcast, live stream, Twitter. Bryson, where should everyone find you? Tell them where to find you.
Speaker: ah You can find me on X. My handle's right there. You know you can follow the Title Talk show on you know YouTube, X.com, all sorts of other stuff. we're We're doing a lot of stuff. Not as much as you, Savage, because you've kind of been dominating, which I love to see. you know You've been doing a good job, so I like to see that. We're trying to get on that level, you know what i man I appreciate that. Yeah. Follow Savage Boston on YouTube, man. That's I'm just like dividing. I only have so much bandwidth and it's like I can't do like the tick tocks and the Instagram. It's like too much. So I'm just doing YouTube videos and I'll do X and I'll do two things.
Speaker: And YouTube has been growing really, really quickly, which has been a lot of fun. so That's why i say, Savage, like i I commend you. You're doing a great job. It's so hard to post religiously. So good job. That's all I'm saying. like People aren't recognizing how much it takes to just make a video simply, and you're doing a great job. So people should appreciate that.
Speaker: I appreciate you for saying that. Thank you. All right, well, let's get into it. So I wanna i want to kick it off with, and this obviously relates to the Patriots, but let's just kick it off with trade deadline for a minute, only because it's so relevant to today. um you know Obviously, Quentin Nelson gets dealt for like a third and a fifth to the Seahawks, which to me is like just a fucking home run move, just a home run move for them.
Speaker: Like they're trying to win the Super Bowl now. know what mean? Like this is a now move. um So why don't you guys just tell me, Brett, why don't you start? How do you feel about the move today? And and kind of how does that relate to the Patriots?
Speaker: Well, mean, we talked about Quentin Nelson. I know you brought him up last yeah last week when we were on the pod. We agreed that was going to be an opportunity guy to go get. Understood the cel Colts were going to be selling off.
Speaker: Third and the fifth, when I saw what the value was, That's a guy we should have been in on it Even if you're doing it and like, like, so people are going start pointing to the cap and then talk about how well we didn't have the cap space and that's why we didn't move on the guy and we couldn't make it work. And he's on the end of the year contracts. We got to resign him. Are we going resign a guy, et cetera, et cetera.
Speaker: And my answer is yes, yes, and yes. Like, A, the cap, you can make cap space tomorrow. If they wanted to restructure Milton Williams, they could get cap space. Like, cap space is not an issue, so don't give me the cap.
Speaker: When you talk about Quentin Nelson, like, do you want long-term? I say to myself, like, well, what do you want to do? On Wenu's year of his contract's coming up, he's making, like, 18 mil per something like that, which is pretty much what Nelson's been and paid right now. Nelson's going to get a little bit more on next contract, but – Still, you're probably going to move on from Unwenu, and you look it and say, Nelson's an eight-time All-Pro player.
Speaker: guard like plug and play lock it down kind of a guy so yes go get that kind of guy we're gonna have to eventually fill that spot anyways this offseason why not jump at the opportunity and a third and a fifth like yeah go ahead and do that you know how i feel about draft picks i think sometimes people like drastically overrate draft picks third and fifth for a guy of that caliber i think you should have gone out and gotten because he would have been a quick insert guy that helped solidify what's already a really beaten up offensive line uh it would have been a no-brainer now where we pivot from here to me i'd still like to see them address the defensive line and if they can an interior uh lineman with a guard or some kind of a center guard combo whatever
Speaker: um We just got to get more interior help. So hopefully someone's there. But defensive line, I know a lot of people flowing out Khalil Mack coming out of the Chargers. Could that be a possibility of getting a guy there? You just look at our defensive line. We're just so thin.
Speaker: You lose. i mean, how many times have we had Draymond Jones go out for a game or start a game and then he doesn't finish the game, etc.? If any of our guys go down, it's a problem. So we gotta we got to find more help. I'm mad we weren't in on Nelson.
Speaker: Reports don't look promising. I don't know. I'd like us to get something. What do you feel about that, Bryson? It was funny because I was texting my friend Alonzo earlier. And in years past, Alonzo and I, like I would be in college on Spotrack and I would be like, okay, this guy's in the last year of his deal. Okay, we could do it. We'd be texting each other. We would make a list. We would have lists and lists of players available, right? And like this year, just didn't do it at all because I kind of knew the Patriots had gave up so much draft capital and money. I was like, it's just, you know, it's just for me to do this extra work. I just, it's not going to happen. So I always knew like the Patriots weren't going to make this big type of move, especially if they're going to take on the cap, not to mention the other things that people are thinking about. And Brett is right. I agree with Brett's take. Like normally I would say draft picks. Who cares? They're draft picks this year's draft. And people always say this, but a lot of people I do really respect are saying that this is a great draft. So I think you kind of have to review this draft as like, OK, they send a third and a fifth to me. That sounds like a second and a four, which, you know, maybe you'd be fine with the Patriots doing and just say, hey, and when I see later, we're going to take Quentin Nelson. I'd be fine with that, by the way. um I kind of wish they would do it. I'm like, you guys, it's fun as a fan, especially because it would drastically improve the team. The run game is terrible. It's like the worst part of their team. Arguably, they can't run the ball like at all. And, you know, if they could do that, that would be great. But it's I just don't think they're going to make one of these splash moves. If they're going to make a move, it's going to be something like Savage. And all of us were talking about earlier today was someone like Josh Downs, someone like that, which even now might even be a pipe dream.
Speaker: Yeah, i think I think so. Josh Downs to me is – obviously, I like Josh Downs, and he would be replacing, you know, like Pop Douglas probably in the slot. He's primarily a slot player.
Speaker: But, again, I like Josh Downs. He's a good player. Is he that much of an upgrade over Pop? That, I'm sure Bryson dropped out due to his connection. But um but is is, you know, when you – here's Bryson's back.
Speaker: So when you add Josh Downs, right, like that wouldn't be – how much of an upgrade would Josh Downs be over Pop Douglas? Maybe you think he's a huge upgrade, and so that'd be cool, but you're not going to spend – ah third round pick. So today, you know, we hear that from a reporter who's affiliated with the commanders who might, you know, says the sources are good, but he says basically that um he believes the Patriots are one of the teams that checked in on Josh Downs.
Speaker: ah But also, you know, hearing that the Colts want like a third for Downs next year in 2027, like that feels like that's, that's too high for me. Like, again, like i would part with a fifth, definitely like even a fourth. You're like, all right, maybe like he's pretty talented. I would do, you know, maybe I do a fourth. Maybe you can think about that. Right. But that's what I heard is they want a third.
Speaker: So that's all that's all I know so far. The Colts want a third. Does that they're going to get a third? No. Like like basically heard today they don't want to trade Jonathan Taylor. so I forget who tweeted that one. um But they don't – like the owner's like, oh, we really don't want to trade Jonathan Taylor only for the right price. That just means they want like a one, which I don't know who's giving a one for like a 30-year-old or whatever old he is running back. I know that feels like a little silly to me.
Speaker: um If that's your organization, awesome. I know everyone like wants – um wants Jonathan Taylor. They're like obsessed with Jonathan Taylor, but again, not, you know, it's just not my, don't know. It's just not, I would rather trade for either an offensive lineman. Like I wanted Quentin Nelson. I thought that would have been a dynamite trade.
Speaker: Although a lot of draft capital though in dynamite and um'm I'm down for Grover Stewart, that D tackle for, we talked about from the Colts too. Can you get him for a, for a six? If they're just offloading, can you go get Grover Stewart?
Speaker: If you guys looked in a Grover Stewart at all,
Speaker: No, not not specifically Grover, but just talking to like your trade value and and where you go. Is a run stuffing de-tackle, which they need. Like after losing Tonga, like that's what they need basically.
Speaker: Yeah, they definitely need help. And I mean, Barmore has been up and down, not great. Milton Williams, not quite as solid as he's been in the years past. Like he's made some really good plays and then he's also been kind of like a ghost. so yeah we need we do need help on that defensive line personally i'd rather go edge than go interior on the defensive line but when you talk about where to go i wouldn't invest draft capital in wide receivers i don't see the value there in dumping any of your draft picks and the position you've made enough investment in wide receivers i get it right now we're thin but like
Speaker: what does it look like with Dobbs and Hollins and see what it is. i will probably get into AJ Brown in a little bit, but I just wouldn't invest in that position to me. If you're going to do anything for trade, it's got to be interior your alignment or defensive line. That's where you're the thinnest and that's where you need the most help.
Speaker: Yeah. right. are you thinking about that, Bryson? What do you actually, what would you want in the trade deadline? I like Josh Downs and I thought Kurt Warner did like an excellent breakdown on this. i don't know if you guys saw this,
Speaker: He was talking about the problems of the Patriots ah offense, and you guys have probably noticed the same thing. Patriots are top five in teams that are blitzed. everyone that beats the Patriots, everyone knows what happens. Everyone walks up to the line. The Patriots start. They add protection instead of receivers, and the Patriots receivers are not very good at breaking off in hot route, specifically Pop Douglas. And so I would look at Josh sounds like, okay, the way to beat the Patriots is just to crowd the line and either blitz come back, make them make those decisions and make those receivers peel off early. Cause they're not specifically pop Douglas. Right. So I'm looking at Josh downs as like, is he that much of an upgrade? Well, I would say, yeah, but also it's to me, it's like double because I think you would be the type of guy that would break off in those routes. And Savage, you're going to know the exactly the throw I'm talking about. The first throwaway to Demario Douglas that Drake May had last game. Drake is looking there. He's expecting him to go hot. He doesn't go hot. So that tells you two things.
Speaker: It tells you, one, Drake knew he was supposed to go hot, right? So it's not Drake May's fault. Demario Douglas does not go hot. That's a problem. all right so I see the way to beat the Patriots is exactly this way so if they can't do this and now does that magically help when Matt Collins is back do we think he's he's like that type of player maybe maybe I just I would prefer Josh Downs in the slot and Drake has so much chemistry I'm like there's a play in college I know it's college granted where they fake a curl touchdown they did stuff like that all year and they're just on the they're on the same wavelength so I think The biggest problem with the Patriots is exactly this. It's the trust. It's the knowing where to be. Pop Douglas is a solid player. Okay. I like the player, but if you're not peeling out hot, you're essentially nothing, right?
Speaker: Yeah, I think – well, I think a few things. One, someone said – Dougie Fresh from YouTube comments said, what's a realistic trade and tradey for downs I think you would just have to maybe give like a fourth-round pick or something. Again, they want a three. Maybe you give a four. That might be realistic to me. You know you you could send a player. You want to send Kyle Williams too? Okay, send Kyle Williams. I don't know. you know But and people don't value Kyle Williams, right? He doesn't carry value in the trade. It's just to get a roster slot off, right? um I think the whole Kurt Warner thing, like obviously Kurt knows what he's looking at. You know, when he talks about like, okay, they're in 11 personnel, right?
Speaker: And the Bears i have eight guys in the box and are going to bring six or seven. You need one of those receivers from where they blitz from. So if they're bringing two guys off, you know, off Drake's blind side, Drake has to like see that, feel the blitz, right? And know that one of those receivers has to be hot.
Speaker: You can't have two guys blitz and then just just run. This has been a problem with Pop Douglas for one. AJ Brown needs to be better at this too. and We can talk about AJ Brown as much as we want, but you can't just go into a a goal route if they're bringing seven or eight. like You have to literally turn around. i mean like Hunter Henry's been fantastic at this even. Hunter Henry, who we all say is like he's lost a step, all this. Hunter Henry caught whatever, seven balls. Like he knows how to pretend he's blocking and slip out and make up it just like Kelsey. They're like savvy vets, basically. Like they know how to do this shit.
Speaker: So that's the only thing I don't like. I wish Pop Douglas had figured this out. I think he's he's obviously got a lot of talent and he's quick, but I don't get why they can't figure out the Edelman thing.
Speaker: Welker mold of like, we know where to be all the time. Like they always like Brady always knew where Edelman was like he or James White even coming out of the back. Like you had these outlets, there's always an outlet, always a hot as we say. And so, yeah, I think Kurt Warner obviously nailed it. He's a quarterback. He knows what he's looking at. And like,
Speaker: Why can't, why, why isn't the offense designed that way? You know, like why why don't they have that? And so that's where I would go different from like, I guess less critical on pop and more just critical on Josh McDaniels in the offense. Because to me, it's, it wasn't exclusive on pop. Like it was a great breakdown that you saw on Kurt Warner talking about it, but like, yeah, he called out AJ Brown when AJ Brown should recognize this AJ Brown.
Speaker: with the amount of experience this guy has, like he should have recognized what was going on, but he just did a straight go route. And it's like, what are you doing? So to me, it looked like a level of just coaching and preparation and them not understanding what they need to do. They're bringing in extra guys into the, ends into the box on the offense side, right? They'd have two guys in the backfield, whether it be a tight end and running back to running backs, et cetera.
Speaker: And they would basically try to pick up the blocks and, They would obviously have one guy that would go free. Some of that is just on blocking assignments where they just didn't read them right. like Henderson had a horrible miss on a pass pro where he just straight up missed the guy right in front of his face.
Speaker: But a lot of times it's just scheme. and it's just These guys just clearly don't know what they're supposed to do, when they're supposed to do it. So Drake's just figuring it out, which is maddening because the guys out there... as proficient as he's being and the what the results are, it's maddening to say, like, he's not getting set up at all for success.
Speaker: Like his guys aren't helping him out. His coach is not helping him out. He's just figuring it out. And it's like, that's not going to be long-term. He's going to like, things are going to happen. And that's why he's, he's stumbling and forces it and such. Like he had to be phenomenal in this game with one mistake.
Speaker: But other than that, like phenomenal for them to be, even be close to the game. Well, hold on. Talk about Bryson can go into this. Talk about McDaniels for a second, right? Like, do we do you more put just like the play calling you just like on McDaniels, you know, the classic, you know, meme, the halfback dive meme you like or the you know what I mean, the run run pass. mean, whatever, like, is it more the play calling on McDaniels or do we not like the general scheme and it only works when they have tremendous blocking and Drake lets it open up downfield or Drake's making amazing plays, you know, like, like which part of the McDaniels scheme don't we like right now for the offense?
Speaker: I always have to say this. I don't mind the run game. Like Ben Johnson is great at running the ball. a lot of these great coaches are great at running the ball and they will exert their will in the run game. Right. it Happens quite frequently. Right. These guys are very good at it. But the reason they're good at it, I think, is because you don't really know sometimes when they're going to run the ball. Like if you guys watch the Bears game, you know what I'm talking about. You couldn't really tell whether or not it play action or a run.
Speaker: OK, that's probably the biggest part. When we're all sitting at home watching the pages, all of us know when the run is coming. Right. That's one of the biggest problems. Right. it's more of like a tendency thing. And as far as the the other part goes, and someone was commenting about the Vikings, like Brian Forrest is rubbing his hands on the Patriots, struggling to pick up blitzes and stuff like the stuff like that. um Kurt Warner said back in the Brady days, this was not really a problem. So is this a player problem or the only other person that's really different? Because I don't think it's Drake May is Mike Vrabel. So what's what's really the issue here with me?
Speaker: What's the issue? Who is it? Yeah. Well, i know – you know, we told we were talking a little before the pod about Vrabel versus Ben Johnson thing, you know, again, which we can go into if we if we want. But um I think, like, we just to bring this up, defenses seem – do they seem to you guys, like, more aggressive with the blitzing? But not just blitzing, like – it's It's really these quarterbacks are so much on their plate, man, for real. I mean, they're bringing they'll have seven or eight guys in the box. Right. So you have three guys, you have one safety, two, two corners, and then you have eight guys in the box and then they start the rush.
Speaker: Two to three guys, random ones, even D linemen, not just linebackers, like sometimes D linemen drop out into vision lanes and it's hard. You don't know who's coming and often they'll vacate the middle and you'll, you know, it's honestly, it's crazy. And it seems like the only way to combat this is you have to run the football.
Speaker: Right? let This seems like genuinely the only way is you literally – like Ben Johnson gets it. He does. You put in three tight ends. He goes, fuck it. like I don't care. Blitz him. Like we're gonna run we're going to run. run the ball. We're to hold the ball and run the ball. And that's what Ben Johnson does. that's Kyle Shanahan runs the football. like ah Sean McVay runs the football. Like the good OCs now know you have to run the ball. Right? So i think this is – it's a massive problem. If you're in third and long in this league, like if you're playing with Brian Flores – in third and long and you give you give Flores third and ten you're so fucked I mean I was watching some his creative blitz packages today like where he had he has guys it's not even this is crazy and I'll let you guys go when he has like a um
Speaker: A stunt on, right? He has two guys. Like, he's got an A-gap and a B-gap linebacker, okay? And you have an A-gap on the opposite side, nose guard. So, they both come. It's not even the play call before the play. They see who the guard goes for.
Speaker: Then, who he goes for drops back into the line of sight for the quarterback, and the opposite guy blitzes. And it's like in the time, you can't even plan the protection borderline. So it's like you have to, as a quarterback, put it running back in the A-gap, like Romandre, you put them in the A-gap, you make your call, which direction they're shifting, and you hope you have enough hats and there's no free run. It's like, i mean, honestly, it is truly amazing what they're asking the quarterbacks to do now and like and to diagnose this stuff. And you can understand why basically so many quarterbacks don't look great
Speaker: on a regular basis. I think a lot of quarterbacks struggle because it's, it's challenging. So i don't know if you guys have anything say about that. Yeah. I mean, I'll just jump in and say to me, well, I got two thoughts on the run game. One, we're just so banged up on the interior that it's hard to imagine us getting there. And then the style, like when we do run effectively, it's usually when we'll let our linemen get out get out and move off blocks and and be athletic when we try to do it just kind of smash up through the middle like it's just there's never anything there and on top of it like i still don't think i mean henderson he can't find a gap to save his life so you know he's in a video on him holy shit yeah so he's like completely lost and i mean i think stevenson's a solid back but he's not
Speaker: elite like he's a solid professional running back but he's not going to be able to make up the difference that we have with our offensive line to me though it's just it's got to come back to scheme and josh mcdaniels like clearly you're ah like they never pivoted at no point did they pivot in the game ever And i think the offense did well enough, but like they didn't do anything to slow down the blitz to figure it out. And again, it relied on Drake may to be spectacular. Like if your guys aren't figuring out hot routes, why don't you just drop Drake back, spread them and just do quick, quick passes.
Speaker: Like, okay. You guys want to put eight guys in the box. We'll put five guys out wide. I'm going to drop Drake back. He's athletic enough to do a heavy drop back, you know, and get a ball out quick.
Speaker: Go ahead. We'll just do quick dink and dunks and do that until you start to back off and and you can't really do that as much. Why didn't we do that? It's simple. If your wide receivers can't do it, just schematically change. So to me, it's it's just Josh has been so inconsistent. Like he's had a couple of good games, but by and large, just so inconsistent. Yeah. with like execution and and he just doesn't pivot on like doing anything to make it fit the game and what's coming their way. He's just kind of like Drake, figure it out.
Speaker: Yeah, the other thing that normally crushes the blitz is like a really awesome running quarterback. So the thing that I think about is like, why did the Patriots not do more RPOs? And Drake Mays making great decisions right now. He's not getting sacked like he was in previous years. He's he's much better at that. He's he's throwing the ball away. hes making awesome decisions. I would say like put him back there. Make everyone declare like Brett is saying, hey, fake a handoff, you know, do some RPOs. Make them pause in their blitz. Make them hesitate. It only takes one or two times for Drake May to have 40-yard runs where people start thinking twice about doing stuff like that. I think that will really open up, Stu. And that's that's kind of like my gripe with Josh McDaniels for the past three years. They basically have Lamar Jackson.
Speaker: And they just don't like they don't do any of that stuff. And whether that's a fear for Drake's injury, I just think you know he's been pretty safe and pretty smart this year. Just do some RPOs. I would love to see that. I think that's a great way to combat the blitz, and especially if your run game is bad. Right. That's a good way to do it. You have an extra runner. Drake may make sense.
Speaker: Yeah, I actually like that. I think RPOs would be really cool. I think getting Drake on the run more because he he's ah clearly a dynamic runner. So in question, do you think they should use an activation on Gilliam? No.
Speaker: I don't know if that saves your game. Like you don't have any guards, man. So like you need guards. If you've got Quentin Nelson, then I activate Gilliam and I say, let's just power it, baby. Like let's just, let's let's run it. Like, but if you don't have any guards, you can't run block. The run block EPA, every game is negative. I mean, they can't run.
Speaker: They can't run the football. They're terrible. Not to mention when they put in, again, like Henderson. Henderson's tape, dude, was, I mean, he had one good catch on the backfield. He was open. He had a little cut in and that was nice. And he had one pretty good catch on the side. He one one handed grab. So twice, then they try to run him.
Speaker: Okay. Not out of the backfield, like catching. They try to run him. His vision is horrendous. He leaves yards all over the field. Okay. Then they use him in the passing game. It's pass pro. And you guys have probably seen the reps by now, I assume.
Speaker: um His pass pro reps were fucking horrible. But, like, more than horrible, like like like, play action, here's a blitzer. And he literally just like looked on the he like, looked past him.
Speaker: The guy crossed his face. It was crazy. I watched that rep. i was like, what? I don't even understand what I'm looking at It was that bad. so And then he got dog walked in another rep. Anyway, it's so basically the Henderson thing's not working currently.
Speaker: The only thing he he can do right now is if he's in the wide open field, he can take a ball and run straight. And that's great. That's great. If you can get him in the open field with 20 yards in front of him, you're in good shape.
Speaker: But if you're going ask him to read a block or to find a lane, it's not going to work. Maybe you just see if he can do kickoff return again because he returned one for a touchdown his first preseason game.
Speaker: Throw him on kick return. Corey Kiner's not bad there. Kyle Williams is horrific. Horrific kick return. I've never seen anyone as bad as that. I don't even understand what's going on there. yeah I just look at – I look at the two of them, Kyle Williams and Henderson, and I think I said this to you I was like, I don't think they have the IQ for football, like for NFL-level football. Like they're just – The plays they make are just like complete head scratchers where you're just like, I don't even know.
Speaker: did you just malfunction on the field? Like Kyle Williams getting the ball like on the out of bounds on the return? Like what are you doing? What are you doing, dude? And it's just like he does. That was awful. They just do stupid stuff all the time. So, I mean, I'm done with Kyle Williams. Like I've done. I'm not going to give that guy anything more. Like I'm done. He's not worth it. It's never going to happen. Let me mention one more thing really quick about about trading for Josh Downs or something. Although that's like a pipe dream, i just I forgot I wanted to say they've committed too many resources to wide receiver. like I just can't even possibly imagine that happening, that trade.
Speaker: right I can't possibly imagine. I want Josh Down. That'd be sick. Josh Down be awesome. right Here's another comment here from Crazy Joe. on YouTube get Josh Downs yeah i like Josh Downs love love him with May the problem is they traded a first for AJ Brown I'm said Antonio Brown for AJ Brown you trade a first and they sign Romeo Dobbs to a big contract you already brought in your two big outside receivers now we want them to trade like a fourth for Josh Downs like okay I mean i don't I'm not the one running the team
Speaker: You know, this is this is mike really Mike Vrabel, but like Elliot Wolfe's supposed to be scouting and organizing this shit. Vrabel's one who's making the final call. So you tell me. i thought I thought an offensive guard would be perfect. Is there a guard still out there you want to get? Because Ben Brown can't run block.
Speaker: He's okay in pass blocking. Not a great run blocker. When Vera Tucker comes back, like that's, that's the hope. You just hope he comes back and Vera Tucker is, is good. Like, is that where, that's what we're, we're doing. I mean, that's cool with me. That's who we're waiting on. Right.
Speaker: um So there's a lot up in the air. Vera is going to get on the left side. What are you going to do about the right side? Yeah. I mean, prior is okay. Prior has been okay. His grades, I think, but like we watched last game, like Bryson, who on the old line was bad last game.
Speaker: I know, you know, tell me who was bad last game on the old line. Yeah, the thing about the offensive line, though, Savage, I don't know if you guys agree with this, but as like as bad as it looks, it was not much better when everyone was kind of healthy, right? like Yeah, they couldn't run. They still struggled to run the ball. there yeah I mean, the pressures are still there. All season, they've been helping massively. Will Campbell and Morgan Moses are some of the most helped tackles in the entire NFL. It's kind of the Josh McDaniels thing, right? So, like, as bad as it sounds as it is, to me, it's just really like –
Speaker: How much better can it get? Like, it's it's not been good, right? So, i'm like, I'm not very concerned about who's playing right guard, to be honest with you, because I don't think it's changing much. Like I said, Drake's been awesome in not taking sacks. And, you know, he loves rolling to the right. Sometimes that's kind of awesome whenever he has to roll to the right and makes an awesome throw, right? So it's like they can't run the ball. No matter who they bring in, unless it's Quentin Nelson, they will not be able to run the ball effectively. So I think we're just kind of like, hey, just put someone healthy in there. and just like kind of get the job done. Cause I think they're okay. Right. There's, they're not like losing at games actively. Like they didn't lose the bears game because the offensive line was terrible. Now the run blocking is bad. That is a big problem, but that's not going to be fixed by bringing off anyone on IR.
Speaker: Right. Just, do you remember like, remember watching, watching what McDaniels used to do with Brady, right? Like let's say for instance, you're in a power formation and Brady would come up. Have you ever seen this in a long time?
Speaker: Come up to line of scrimmage. I'll say Brady would audible, right? Check. five Five wide, right? Five wide. They go to five wide. Running back goes out. It was like the offense taking it to the defense. Like if the defense is in like a cover zero, we're going blitz all these guys and ill you audible into five wide, like, oh shit. They like, they get, they freak out. Guys have to move out and you can die. And Brady could diagnose and throw a quick out, right?
Speaker: We don't do that. Like, like how come it feels like we're just on the defensive. Whenever you go against a team who's third and 10, how come there's no, like, like we're we're playing, You know, we're playing not scared, but there's not enough audibles or checks in a confident looks like that's it's just relying on Drake to be ridiculous. But that's not necessarily sustainable. You can't your game plan can't just be like, let's hope Drake rolls out and throws a 40 yard dot. Like, how is that your game plan?
Speaker: Right. salt that like You got to run the football, basically, is what i'm saying. You have to run the football, too. I think you just made a really good point, and we were talking about that earlier, right? The answers to the test when Brady is there is spread everyone out. Brett mentioned this perfectly earlier. Make everyone declare. You know where the ball is going. Now their answer is really to like help the tight healthy tackles with tight ends and running backs. And like that's okay, but you have to think about it fundamentally. You're taking receivers out of the game.
Speaker: So you have less options. Right. And so oftentimes it might be two against the entire defense or, you know, just three against the entire defense. And that's a rough go at it. So I just think what they're doing right now is not good. If you think Will Campbell is a good player, stop helping him on 60 percent of the snaps. Right. If you if Morgan Moses cannot play tackle without 80 percent of being helped, which was a real stat by the time I checked last week. Put Caleb Lomu in there. Do something else with it. if If you're really helping your offensive line that much, it's a detriment to your offense. Why do you have these players attack? Why did you draft Will Campbell? Let him on an island 20% to 30% of the time. Get Lomu in there because Lomu was left on an island in the game. He was in there. He did just fine. I thought he looked great, actually. Put him in there.
Speaker: Figure it out. Stop helping them so much because that does hurt the receiving game a a lot. When you don't have guys running routes, And you're committing everything to just blocking it up. That's crazy to me.
Speaker: I noticed that when I was watching the Chiefs versus the Seahawks game, what they did and their ah offense obviously couldn't function because they literally can't throw it downfield. I mean, Mahomes could not throw downfield. It was crazy. like missing guys, but also his receivers are terrible. It's a whole, if you're a Chiefs fan, that's a whole weird thing there. i know they're five and one, but like that was, that was brutal. And I think that's going to happen more and more against good defenses for them. But I noticed the one thing they were doing every time is they would just do kind of what the Patriots do, which is you have your tight end pretend to block and then he just like rolls out late and sits there and they're like that's that was their whole offense or the running backs like someone would blitz the running back would like run by him and you just throw to the running back where the guy blitzed from that was the offense that was all they did the whole night true it was weird it was like they couldn't they were talking about being on the defensive that's the most defensive strategy ever it's just like Waiting for crazy blitzes. You can hope a guy sneaks out in the flat like that. That was their offense. And so I just wonder, like, where are these teams do where you feel like they're really being the aggressor? They're taking it to them. They're they're spreading out four wide every play, confidence, slinging it around.
Speaker: Is that happening a lot right now? Like, i don't know who's doing that. There's no one that's doing it. and who's josh out Is just Josh Allen doing that? Or just maybe Stafford's offense with McVay? They run and then Stafford airs it out. When when May plays a team that, um I don't know, maybe doesn't blitz as heavy, May looks like this, where hes he can sling it around the field, right? – It's lot of defensive football, and and everyone's trying to figure out how do we deal with this. this I don't know if people are even interested this in the podcast, but everyone's trying to figure out how we how do we deal with all this too high shell all the time in these insanely creative blitzes and creative cover packages where everyone's just in cover two, the whole fucking game. And it's just the modern football. It's less like spread offense, dink, dunk, like create, you know, slants. it's
Speaker: It's just changing a little bit. That's all saying. Sorry, you guys go. Well, again, I think the counter to that is to spread them out and to try and and get at them. Because if they're going to drop all of those guys in the box, they're not going to be able to get coverage out in the flat quick enough.
Speaker: So just do that. And then you'd have better opportunity to try to attack. But I mean, when we played Seattle, Josh basically did the same thing. Like he would have two guys go out on routes, maybe three if you're lucky, because he was just coaching scared the entire game, coaching scared. And just playing super conservative. So I look at it and I say, well, I mean, if that's how you're going to play against them, I mean, I guess you're hoping it stays incredibly tight because you're never going to move the ball that way. You're not giving them any options. And Seattle just got home because they're just talented up front. So even if we brought in all those people to add on for protection, like it wasn't going to help us. Seattle's an elite defense. I get it. But, like, you can't coach scared.
Speaker: Like, that's the biggest difference between, like, Ben Johnson and other coaches. Like, he's going to come at you. And he's going to be creative. And he's going to be gutsy. Like, that's just who he is. And that's how he coaches. Kyle Shanahan's the same way. Like, he's just going to keep coming at you, keep coming at you, keep trying to, like, chip around, find an angle where it's going to go, whatever. Like, those are guys that are being creative. Whereas, I feel like Josh – And, like, in a sense, Rabel, like, just so conservative.
Speaker: And it's just – it's not going to work long term. Like, you have to let Drake be Drake. Like, I don't know how many times I want to keep saying it. Like, you got to let Drake be Drake. Like, you got the kid. You put in all this draft capital around of these, like, wide receivers and investment, et cetera. Like, just go try to execute. And if, like, he can't figure it out, well, then okay.
Speaker: But you're not even trying. You're just, like, handcuffing the kid 24-7.
Speaker: drive yeah crazy it's it's It's super frustrating. other thing I think about that really frustrates me about the coaching staff is most likely if Hill does not get hurt, we are not seeing the Raradon breakout either because they love Hill's ability to block.
Speaker: It's stuff like that that is really really irritating to me. I hear you talk, and I know you're like a big Rabel guy, but like that stuff is like – I don't know how you reconcile that and how it gets fixed. you know This is like a fundamental aspect of Mike Rabel. And back in the day when he was coaching the Titans, I watched a ton of Titans football, and it would always like – I would call it like the cowardly index. It would always frustrate me to death because I thought those Titans had really good teams. And so a lot of times I was like, Titans should win this game. And they end up blowing it because they're extra conservative. And that's kind of what he's been in the past. So I don't know how you guys square that with like, how this gets fixed because you guys like kind of mentioned it, like in the past, you can kind of see like Josh would do some of that stuff. And like
Speaker: I used to call it the spread and shred when Brady was there. Like, okay, we clearly can't run the ball. Let's spread it out and let's make everyone declare and everyone knows where to go and Tom Brady can do it. Drake may as that type of quarterback, but now what's the only difference? The difference is Mike Rabel. To me that like you're either coaching it or you allow it to happen. So this is something that he fundamentally wants. I think he would say, hey, the way to the way to do it is to have protection because he built this team. And people, people like when they like the moves, they credit Vrabel. When they hate it, they credit Wolf, right?
Speaker: You had Gilliam. You had Hill. You had Big Mac Hollins. You had all of these guys that are like big, blocking type of guys. And um it's not really conducive to the type of offense that you guys are describing here. So I wonder how you square that.
Speaker: well i what i would say is this i mean the talent guys that he's gotten around them so like i get it he's had some big guys but then he's also gone out and gotten a dobs he's gone out and gotten a.j brown like they invested in kyle williams which is not a big wide receiver that's going to be set in the block they got a trevion henderson who's not a big like up the center gasham guy like Derrick Henry right so they've gotten a lot of guys that don't necessarily fit that just ground and pound but they kind of use Henderson like that don't they they kind of use him like he's Derrick Henry don't they
Speaker: I mean, i I don't even know how they use him at this point. They're kind of like, hey, go be great. don't think they're using him well at all. like Well, I mean, they never throw it out to Derrick Henry out in the flat or do like a reverse play like they do with Henderson. So, I mean, like Henderson does a little bit more than what they would do with Henry from ah from a speed perspective. But just to like talk on Brable in general, I mean, for me, like, yeah, I'm a Brable guy. like Brable. I think he – A, I think he brings the culture that you need in the team. And and like we needed a ah quick correct because of how bad it was after Mayo. And on top of it, I think when it comes to like game management and how he is with the feel in the game, I think he's better than most. And I think him and Stretch do a good job in those moments. I trust like his judgment calls in those and what he's going to do. And then on top of it, like, I think he's done a really great job ah of pulling along some guys and getting some coaching in them and developing them. Like Gabe Ackes is case in point, right? You look at linebacker, like Ellis, like who was Ellis? And now all of a sudden he's like, he's a solid pro, you know, like he's got guys that are buying into the program would work well. So I'm a big variable guy, but like, here's where I think there's kind of ah a a kink in the chain. That's starting to, I'm starting to get a little concerned about,
Speaker: um is really just his handling of A.J. Brown. Because A.J. Brown this past game played like dog shit. Like, let's just be real. He, like, did not go out and do any sort of, ah you know, he wasn't doing any protection on run blocking. Wasn't going to happen.
Speaker: He still has those drops. I get it. It's the DPI on his arm. Like, he's got to make that catch. Like, you got to produce. Like, you have to be the dog in there. And I know they joked about it last game where he had those drops, and and he goes, what did Vrabel say? He said, you tell me when A.J. Brown shows up. But then after this game, it's kind of like, ah, let's kind of skirt around it when he's talking about A.J. Brown. It's like, no.
Speaker: If you're going to get hard on your guys and you're going to basically hold them to a high standard and be accountable, You better be doing that to A.J. Brown in front of those players because this could really start to go south if Brown doesn't pick it up and Rabel continues to protect him.
Speaker: Well, let me – so to answer a couple things. One, i do think people undervalue – and this is interesting because I know the common thing for the last few years for a lot of online guys has been, you need the head coach to be the OC to call the plays, right? Like that's been the big point, right? You need Andy Reed, you need McVay, you need Shanahan. Like, you you know, you need that. The head coach to also like call the plays and basically be your OC. is that way the OC doesn't leave. They organize the offense. I understand that. and that's, that's largely been very successful in the league. I understand that. I do think there's a place to have a CEO, uh, CEO type coach who's the culture guy, who's in every room helping the game plan, being in the game manager and hiring the right people. That's what the CEO ultimately does, right? You're supposed to hire, you hire Stretch, you're supposed you promote Zach Corr who's doing a good job, right? You have, you say, hey, McDaniels, here's what we're focusing on. Like everyone says like, what does Vrabel do? what is That's the thing, what does Vrabel do, right?
Speaker: he He's in every room. That's what he does. He does everything. oh He does. Well, I mean, but that's why you people say like he doesn't get the blame or something. like he deserves all the blame if they fail. that's what That's what the CEO does, right? Truly, I mean this. If they fail, it's all on him.
Speaker: He controls all of it. It's his fucking game plan. It's his staff. It's his personnel. Think about that, really. Like that's what I mean by CEO type. Like it's his fault. You know, if you're a Fortune 500 company,
Speaker: and the business it starts doing poorly, the CEO gets fired, right? it's to see They're in charge. So that's where I think the CEO thing plays in. It's not like, oh, what does Ray will do? He's not like calling the defensive plays every game, right? He's he's feeling the game out, but he's organized the entire franchise. so So yes, that's I think there is value if you have a guy who's really smart,
Speaker: who is a good coach that can, even if you don't like him, that can organize and put together a really good franchise. i think there's value in that. Now, but do I like someone more maybe who's like Mike McDonald, who reminds me of Bill Belichick?
Speaker: Yeah, I love Mike McDonald. I don't know. I'm umm like obsessed with Mike McDonald. I think he's a savant, brilliant, and just won the FN Super Bowl at the greatest def defense in a long time. Very, very high on Mike McDonald, who also calls the defensive plays. So there's clearly a lot of value in that. Don't get me wrong. um But, yeah, and sorry, now to flip-flop to the A.J. Brown stuff, okay?
Speaker: I'm going to give him a little bit of a window. I'll be more, I'll be a little more soft on him. Okay. Because not, not just did I want the player so fucking badly and it would look horrific for me to now immediately be like, this guy sucks.
Speaker: That would be ridiculous. Ridiculous. He's been hurt. He played two games in five days coming off in a high ankle sprain. I'm going to give him 10 day break.
Speaker: If he comes out against Miami, says, I'm fully healthy. And then I expect him to be a lot better against a shitty Miami team. If he still can't produce or function or catch, I will get worried and I'll start being worried on the internet.
Speaker: But to this point, I'm going to give him a tiny bit of grace. So sorry, a lot there, but Bryson, would you say anything about that? I think you know he's he's been getting open a little bit, right? like i I think that's not really a problem. I i have faith in A.J. Brown. all right We all get our jokes off and it's funny, but I really do have faith in him, especially because you know you guys were probably there in the summertime. I know you were there, and you know how epic it was in the summer. and People thought we were over were exaggerating about how awesome it was. No, was awesome. A.J. Brown was sick. they were it was it was awesome so i I think that player is still there.
Speaker: there's They're going to have some patches here where he can go off, and I think it's going to happen. He just needs some confidence, right? And Drake is still going to him. So that tells me everything I need to know. Drake knows when to freeze people out. See Kyle Williams. Drake knows when to freeze someone out. He's a smart guy. Did Kyle have a target?
Speaker: Did Kyle have a target last game? Did he have one target? He had zero catches against the Bears. Did he have a target? Kyle Williams is the Travion Henderson of Kyle Williams, and Travion Henderson is the Kyle Williams of Travion Henderson. Kyle Williams is the Travion Henderson of Kyle Williams.
Speaker: yeah Absolutely. Yeah. <unk>s that's I got faith in A.J. Brown. man. I think it's going to happen. I think we're going to see it and it's going to be epic. You know, we just got to wait a little bit. It's just like at the beginning of the season when the Patriots were like looking not good. We had to wait a little bit. I think it's same thing here. We're going have to wait a little bit. I think he looks great. He's going to make some plays. He's going to come down with them. In the meantime, he has to come down with them. But I like what Brett said.
Speaker: It's like Gabe Ackes is awesome. He's been awesome. He's been an extremely awesome player that, by the way, maybe doesn't start if not for injury. So he's out there playing, doing awesome. And he gets eviscerated in the media.
Speaker: He's getting eviscerated because of like one bad play or two bad plays. And then you have like guys like A.J. Brown who get nothing. They don't they don't get anything. Well, i think that tells you. Hold on. home on brett Hold on. Hold on. One second. I promise i won't go long. That tells you.
Speaker: i think that tells you Vrabel is. And this is where I like Mike. OK, this is where I like him. it tells It's just like when he gave a game ball to a to a kicker like last year or people were like, why would you give – why didn't you give the game – it was a Bedard again. was like, why didn't you give the game ball to Drake May instead of the kicker? It was like, well, the kicker missed a couple kicks and then came back with a big kick.
Speaker: So he's trying to elevate that player. He understands emotion. You have to elevate that person because they need it. He knows Gabe Ackes is a fucking dog.
Speaker: He knows this. This is what I mean. Like Gabe Ackes is the Terminator. This kid's going to be nasty. I've been watching every snap he's played and i love what I see.
Speaker: Develop a tiny bit of a speed rush and he's going to be elite. so love what I'm seeing from Ackes and Frable knows that. He knows this kid needs hard coaching. He knows that. So Frable doesn't give a shit. He goes, yeah, Ackes. Yeah. Fuck that one up.
Speaker: AJ Brown though. This might make you a little nervous. yeah He knows maybe A.J. Brown is a little more sensitive. So he's like, A.J.' 's A.J. Come on.
Speaker: He's going to be good. He's good. What do you guys – right? So you feel the emotional difference of who he in the media can coach and push. That's how I'm interpreting the situation. um i think that's valid, and you're probably right. I mean, I do think Vrabel has a sense on us to, like, when to go at guys, when not to. when We talked about length when you're talking about Drake May.
Speaker: And, like, how does he get at Drake May and what does he do? And, and like, people were had, like, crazy takes. And I think, by and large, he did fine managing the situation with Drake from a communication standpoint. My concern that I had with it was you say you have confidence in Drake May, but then the play calling doesn't match the level of confidence. So that was always the criticism I had.
Speaker: Thinking back to A.J. Brown, though, like, one of the things that I do think – So I get on him especially in the run block when they threw that screen out and like, he just didn't even bother to like, it was a bad rap, like really bad. But like, not is it a bad rap? It's just someone that doesn't care.
Speaker: So to me, I think there's a level of like, dude, this was your dream coming here to play for Vrabel, play for your like childhood team, et cetera. Like, where's that guy? Mm-hmm.
Speaker: One thing I think to give a little bit of credenceence credence to your argument as to saying, well, he's played two games in five games. He's also like, he had over 90% snap count this last game.
Speaker: The injuries and the volume at which he's being asked to get out there. Like he might not have it every single drive. So, Hopefully, and this is just me being trying to think glass half full future, when we get healthy, then he's doing a little bit less reps and he's getting back to like a 75, 80% snap count. He's got more go when he's actually out in the field versus now when he's just got heavy usage after a high ankle sprain. He might need to take a few plays off because he just doesn't have it.
Speaker: I think this is sad. It's his fault. He needs to be posting more hype edits. He needs more hype edits of Tom Brady and Julian Edelman. You need to really get under AJ's skin here. we need to lock We need to lock him in a room with Savage Boston Reels where he's just watching hype edits of Tom Brady and Julian Edelman. And by the way, the first thing that needed to happen is he needs to take that number one jersey and go throw it in the garbage. i'll take them Take the number 11 jersey. It's not too late.
Speaker: Go ahead and switch make the switch. and The number one jersey is It is completely cursed. Bring your Julian Edelman back. Unleash that. We need that. We don't need the number one. It's totally cursed. Savage. Hype edits. Tom Brady. Julian Edelman. Tag AJ Brown. What are you doing, man? We need you here. i'm sure i Remember the golden days? yeah smith cares and i'll this post yeah Yes, Can you switch shirts in midseason?
Speaker: You got to follow Ray Bulls lead, though. We got to make sure we follow Ray Bulls lead with AJ Brown. And be soft be soft with him. Yeah, I think honestly, like, I think that should, if you're if you're reading through the tea leaves, that which should concern you a little.
Speaker: um That would concern me that Vrabel can't be harder on him. I think like versus in the pre, in um what do you call it? In his first day of camp, like AJ missed a one-handed grab. He was nonchalant and missed a one-handed catch.
Speaker: And Vrabel right away the meeting was like, hey, you got to make that catch. That's why we brought you here. He was like dead serious. It was the first day of camp. And like, that's good. That's like, that's hard. That's showing like Rabel can coach him. Now, if he's just like, I'm not worried about him. You know, he's good, man. He's awesome. He's AJ. Like, I don't love, like, you need to be like, we expect a lot from AJ and he's going to rise to the occasion, right? Like you got to, like, like you have to, like, you have to give him a little, I would hate for him to be being soft with him. Cause that tells me that AJ is down on himself and that would really fucking be bad.
Speaker: Really be bad. i don't, I don't, I hope that's not true. Yeah, I mean, his comments after the Jets game made me feel pretty promising. Like, he was like, that's on me. Can't be like that. Like, um i have to. Like, Greg put it where it needed to be. Like, that's all on me. like he He was open against the Jets. Right mentality. Yeah, and, like, i was okay with that because I was like, this is rust. Here, I was like – dude, you're kind of like dogging it, and you're not really like giving that max effort. So, like I said, the only thing like smidgen of an excuse that I'll give is five days, high ankle, 90% snap count.
Speaker: Yeah. But, I mean, I don't feel like we ever saw him engage the entire game. so But let me just add really quick, just just for um ah objectivity's sake, um I looked at PFF grades for A.J. Brown in run blocking.
Speaker: Okay. Over the last like six, seven years and his run block greatest shit. Yeah. But his receiving a grade, it's like a fucking elite 90 on average for the last like six years. So clearly like they didn't get them to run block. They got Mac Hollins to run block.
Speaker: And I know they want to coach him up and be like, you're going to try hard too. That's not the player he is. It's not, he's a guy who's supposed to be an elite all pro wide receiver. Right. And he's not going run block. Well, it just, it's just like but like, this is what it's confusing that people are more confused about it. Like you see a rep and you expect everyone to be an elite run blocker. Like it's, he's just not that guy. He's not that player. So.
Speaker: Well, again, to me, it's an effort thing. Like there's okay. Sure. I'll go with it. And then there's lot. You didn't even try. Yeah. like And that's the part that I look at with him out there that gets me frustrated because you're like, you just look like you're not even trying.
Speaker: Yeah, I think it's one play, guys. Seriously, imagine it. One play, one awesome big play, one awesome deep throw, touchdown. A.J. Brown throws the ball in the stands. I think once he gets that out of the way, everything will come. It it feels like kind of pressing a little bit.
Speaker: like Drake was in the first couple of weeks, I think once we get that really big play, we won't be talking about this anymore. And he'll kind of relax. And so will Drake May and so will everyone else. And he'll come back to being the dog. I have a great feeling that's exactly what's going to happen.
Speaker: Well, it's definitely not Drake May because Drake is putting it in his freaking bread. Yeah, absolutely. yeah He's nice. When you talk about like sink and where it's at, I'm like, Drake is putting it where AJ Brown needs to go make a play.
Speaker: It's on. Drake's putting it on him. yeah So I just want to pull up. So this is the Dolphins stats by game. Okay. They're, they're not exactly a barn burner right now. Not great. They score their 30th in the league at 16 points a game. They give up 26 points a game.
Speaker: on average. Okay. I know they beat the jets who I think the jets went all out versus the Patriots and were extraordinarily physical versus the Patriots because that was their big up game. And the jets clearly with an Epic letdown game, but Gino Smith still threw for two 70 and three touchdowns in their loss.
Speaker: That's for the jets. Right. But they're giving up. I mean, a point, uh, points per play 29th in the NFL. Um, I mean, their rush defense isn't bad, but dude, they're,
Speaker: This is crazy. Do you know what they're giving up? The opponent completion percentage is they're giving up. Do you guys want to want to give me a good guess? What are the Dolphins giving up in completion percentage on What did you say, Bryson? 73. Brad, what's your guess?
Speaker: I was going to go 72. The answer is 76. that's awesome. On Wow. average which is almost impossible.
Speaker: Like they're turning every quarterback they play into the best quarterback in the league. um And, you know, and somehow it's, it's crazy and opponents yard per pass, eight yards of pass that, you know, it's just um it's crazy. it's just that opponents apparently don't pass that much because they're probably up and they run the football.
Speaker: So it's just a, just a mess of a team, right? Just a mess of a team. So. And I agree with this comment that this person may just sit here and say they're playing some very favorable defenses next four games.
Speaker: I agree, man. This is like gel time. This is the NFC North defenses, the Packers, the Lions, the Lions, not good, man. Like not really not great. So I think, you know, they gotta be, they gotta to be taken to them. So I think AJ Brown is gonna, is gonna cook. Good Joe and Harry, AJ Brown game, right. Get right game loading hundred percent. I think,
Speaker: I think absolutely. I think he's going to cook. And then then it's going to be like go time where shit's going to tighten up and we're going to be back on McDaniel's ass basically being like when you when you play the Chiefs, when you play the Broncos, it's going to get tighter.
Speaker: It's going to be tight. Those are good good defenses. Like it's going to get tight. And that's my concern is like how does McDaniels handle it? You McDaniels can do it when they open it up and Drake has protection andk and he can throw it all around. Yeah, they look great.
Speaker: How's McDaniels going to handle it when they go against a really tight defense? Do you expect anything different, Bryson? They need to have some swagger, man. I think, like, that's the thing that we're missing here. You know, against the – you know, we hate to say the schedule stuff, but like you just said, they do have the swagger against the teams that they know they can beat up on. But when it's the tough teams, you can just see it.
Speaker: I don't see any, like – Any celebrations, nothing like that, nothing crazy, right? And the other thing is I think they really need to, like, focus on the players that are actually good. Like, Raridon is likely their best player on offense, not named A.J. Brown. Focus on him a little bit more. He's super fast. He's a complete stud. You know, when they play these defenses that are great, like you just like you guys just said, you can't go in there and be like, well, this team's great. we're not We're not so good. It's like, just go out there and just go out there and play ball, man. It's so simple.
Speaker: they're so They get so conservative, man, honestly. like I think McDaniels really does. He buys into it. He sees the Broncos, and he's like, they're going go Chiefs, Vikings, and Broncos later this year. Those defenses.
Speaker: Very good. When they play the Vikings, that's going be a fucking – Crazy game. i don't know what's going happen. Can you figure out how to run the ball by then? I don't know. But no. All right. Let's go into um just Dolphins quick. Just prediction wise, because like to do it towards the end of the show. What's your what's your guess for the game? So, Brett, when you lead it off, what's a what's your prediction for the Dolphins game? who you taking?
Speaker: uh pat's 31 7 um i think it's gonna be pretty track meet early on and then we're just gonna kind of get a touchdown late or something but i think this is thing's gonna be over pretty early 31 7 yeah you got Well, first of all, the NFL was favoring the Patriots when they moved this game to 4 o'clock because, as we all know, the sun is so much hotter at 1 o'clock. Dolphins fans are saying this. don't know if you guys have seen this, but they're all mad that the game was moved. They're like, of course the NFL moved the game because of the golden boy Drake May. It's like, okay, Drake opened up with the Seattle Seahawks on banner night in Seattle. and They're like, no, of course. like They have nothing else to complain about because their team is so bad. I think this is a get-right game for the Patriots. I think this is an A.J. Brown game.
Speaker: I want to see Caleb Loma playing. yeah Honestly, i want to if if we go into this game, there's some struggles. i want to see Loma playing, and I want to see the explosive A.J. Brown game in Miami. I want it to be eerily similar to the Antonio Brown in Miami.
Speaker: Deep balls all day long. Run the score up. Get some confidence back. Destroy a team. okay Embarrass them. It's not our problem that they can't stop the Patriots. all right Four quarters of straight-up embarrassment. I want to see that. That's what we need, fellas. We need the confidence back.
Speaker: I agree. What's your score? 35 to 17. Okay. I was going to be semi-similar. I was going to say, Pat's obviously I was going to be in my mind. It's very similar, but they should be in the 30s.
Speaker: I mean, they should be in the 30s, no question. And Lomu, dude, I hope Lomu gets some reps, man. We all say like we want him in there. like We thought maybe they'd play him at guard or something, but like I don't know. Moses is hanging on.
Speaker: Lomu has massive water boy vibes in a good way. I love Loma. I think Loma's been great, man. And when we see, why is he not playing? Like, I think he doesn't play because they're protecting him too. And they just say, if, if,
Speaker: Are we getting similar play out of an injured Moses than Lomo? Is that what they think? Can he not run block well enough? I don't i don't know. I'm not sure. play My response is like play the best players.
Speaker: I think when you watch him, and Savage can attest that he's so smooth. i think he's he's good. He's very solid. Play him. i have I have so much faith in him. I think that's a mistake right there. I would get him in there. I want Lomo to have as many reps as he possibly can going into the playoffs. I want to see him play. it Morgan Moses is not it.
Speaker: He's just simply nodded. He can't move anymore. Loma's super young. Get him in there, all right? You're helping Moses at like an 80% clip. He's barely playing right tackle. Just get Loma in there. It doesn't make sense to me. Play your best guys.
Speaker: mean, Moses has just not been – like grading out well. so it's not like exact It's not like he's playing really great. like He's having a lot of problems. so I don't know. They must just think they're getting more from... You've got to put them yourself in their brain. What do they think? why like why do they It's just because he's a vet.
Speaker: is it because You know what I mean? like What is it about Moses? They just trust him more, right? Or if he's their guy? i don't Is it because Caleb Lomu's a dancer? Do we hate dancers around here? I love the dancer.
Speaker: Get the dancer in there, Vrabel. He's mad. He's mad he can't dance like him. That's my response. He is mad he cannot dance. he's Why does Will Campbell get the unlimited leash like last year when he was hurt or whatever, like doesn't get benched, but Lomu cannot play to save his life?
Speaker: Campbell had a tough game in pass pro a little bit this last week too. That was a little, I i didn't love that. He had a good game against the Jets and then he got cooked a couple times this this week in pass pro. So that was a little rough. they They struggled more than I thought they would without sweat in there. But, um, ah and last last topic tonight, and then we'll, we'll round it up. But when is, when is the narrative going to shift that? Let's say like Drake may is considered a better quarterback than Patrick Mahomes.
Speaker: Like when does that narrative shift on like ESPN or the internet? Because amongst ah us, like we say that, but like our title talk chat might say that, right? But the narrative on ESPN isn't talking about like that. Like Mahomes is still their number one guy. It's like they're they're living in 2021. So like when when are people going to advance this discourse, Bryson, you tell me?
Speaker: I don't know that they will, because, you know, as much as we love to hate on Josh Allen, Josh Allen has been very clearly better than Mahomes for like a long time now. And people like people like Nick Wright and all these guys will not say that Josh Allen is the best quarterback in the lead. they Always preface They'll say, well, Mahomes and all this stuff, when he's been playing bad for years now.
Speaker: I don't know that this is ever going to happen, okay? Like last week, May had a great game, and I saw him on an edit of the Mickey Mouse meme that people were making on X.com, and I was like, this is just – how does this man have the lowest PR out of the best – he's one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. He has one of the lowest PRs. So that's why I'm always like – Let's advocate for Drake May because everyone else – I don't know that they're ever going to get it, man. I simply – I just don't know.
Speaker: They really haven't gotten it with Josh Allen. It took them a long time with Matt Stafford too. So it's going to take a while. Like he's going to have to do something crazy because now at the goalposts are always moving right. You can see it now, which tells you in the back of their mind they know he's an awesome quarterback. They just won't say it. They hate to say it.
Speaker: It's just narrative bullshit. But like – but Drake was really great last game. He was really great. he had a really great game. All his decisions, his throws, he had one bad throw, and he had a really great game. And and now at least even though some of the local critical type guys are saying, no, he was really good.
Speaker: His decisions were good. How they failed was they can't run the fucking ball. They stall out. Then they punt because they can't run. Or he gets sacked because they they couldn't pick up the blitz and everyone no one runs a hot. Like that's that's how they lost. But like Drake was really good. He played really well. Everything they asked him to do, he did well this last game. So that should make people pretty encouraged.
Speaker: That was all him at the end of half, by the way. That throw to Ramondre, that was all him.
Speaker: Well, it's not, the narrative is not going to change until Drake may wins a super bowl. That's just the way they are. And Kansas, city Kansas city chiefs. I mean, you and I were on the same line Savage when we said at the top, like we didn't think they were going to be good. We didn't think my homes was going to be good. And,
Speaker: I think they're a paper tiger right now. They're such fraudulent 5-1 team. I mean, the teams they play combined have five wins. Yeah, their schedule's been so bad, dude.
Speaker: Their schedule. I'm going to talk schedule talk. there's The Chiefs have played no one. I mean, they have such a soft schedule, but then they finish out and it's like, good luck.
Speaker: You know what I mean? Like, yeah i mean they're going to play the Bills. They got to play the Rams. They got to play the Bengals. They have us. They got the Niners. You know, like, I i don't see it.
Speaker: Like, I don't think they're going to steamroll some of these teams. I think they're pretty fraudulent. They'll probably make the playoffs. by this This year. They had the Broncos this week, I should say. but Yeah. i don't Generational hate watch. Generational hate watch, boys. Who do you root for in that?
Speaker: You're rooting for Mahomes or Bo Nix? I'm rooting for Mahomes, man. No, come on. The Knicks fans are so bad. I'm telling you, they are so bad. Like, they are so utterly delusional. Like, earlier someone was talking about Savage, and they were like, I've seen a million Patriots accounts tweeting a million times about Bo Nix. And I had this tweet, and I was like, well, every tweet is one inch. And so 280 That's 280 tweets. And that's further than the average bone X pass. It's like they're like they make me so mad because they think they legitimately think bone X is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. So I think they I think they need to go. The Mahomes fans are starting to like I have friends that are Chiefs fans and they're like starting to get it. They're like, this is not good. Like they're actually reasonable, I would say. Not for the most part. The Broncos fans, they need to be, they need to go down a notch. Okay. That's why I'm rooting for the chiefs. I want the hate watch is all Broncos. I want them to be obliterated. It's going to be awesome. I want that.
Speaker: And my homes is probably going to suck anyway, if they went to like, it it works out well. And, and you know, anyway, Yeah, I think Bo Nix. We keep it low scoring. I just need Mahomes like downgrade to continuously go. i can't hear the Chiefs being like, oh the Chiefs are going to, you know, combat against the Pats dynasty, yada, yada, BS. Like, no, they're not. They're yeah on the decline and they're struggling to find their footing.
Speaker: Yeah, they have not retooled. So their GM work has not been very good and they have not retooled the way Patriots did have this this messy middle a little, but then they quickly kind of retooled and put together behemoth teams, even though when they didn't win Super Bowls in 2010. To 2010, they were 14-2. Brady had 36 touchdowns, like four picks or something. Brady was MVP, unanimous. it was ridiculous. They were ridiculous. like and they So they did retool on the fly. It's just hard to win, obviously. But, um but yeah, I don't Bo Nix, man, it's hard to watch him play. I don't i just don't – at least with Mahomes, you're going to see something interesting.
Speaker: Because although he's not accurate downfield anymore, like he's going to pull something out. Bo Nix to me, like how they're making him dip and dunk is like is is is rough. It's rough to watch sometimes. His a dot shit like he throws like three yards downfield like it's it's rough. It's not exactly a great quarterbacking.
Speaker: Well, and then on top of it, like he's, he's breaking out of the pocket before, like he needs to at all. And he like breaks down plays all the time. Like he's got guys wide open, no pressure. And he just starts to look scrambling out of the pocket and then like throws it out of bounds. It's like, what are you doing, dude? What are you doing?
Speaker: Yeah, no, it's crazy. All right, well, let's ah let's let's wrap it up. We'll let Bryson move on here, and and he can he can take off. And thank you guys for tuning in. Again, go subscribe. Go follow Bryson on Twitter and and Title Talk, and go subscribe on Savage Boston on YouTube.
