Speaker: Get back in there.

Speaker: Agent, what's his name?

Speaker: 47?

Speaker: 47.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: He needs you.

Speaker: I guess so.

Speaker: I guess so.

Speaker: I mean, I wouldn't be surprised.

Speaker: He and I did not end on bad terms.

Speaker: No.

Speaker: You know who else who needs you?

Speaker: What's that?

Speaker: Hey there, everybody.

Speaker: Welcome back to Pixelate.

Speaker: My name is Kevin.

Speaker: With me, as always, is Phil.

Speaker: And on today's show, part two of Dishonored, the Corroded Man, or as Northern Lion would put it, the Decroated Man.

Speaker: He's been.

Speaker: He's been saying that word for a while now, and it's almost become a real word to me.

Speaker: So instead of corroded, he'll say decroded.

Speaker: And I'm like, no, it's like corroded and decrepit.

Speaker: Like together, they had a baby.

Speaker: It's a portmanteau.

Speaker: It works.

Speaker: Decroated works so well.

Speaker: Like that's decroated.

Speaker: And we're like, yeah, no, I get it.

Speaker: New word.

Speaker: It's cosign.

Speaker: New word.

Speaker: Done.

Speaker: Easy.

Speaker: Said and done.

Speaker: Just like that.

Speaker: Decroated.

Speaker: I wonder if it has like, yeah, decrapulated.

Speaker: Oh, you know what?

Speaker: Decroated is from, is it from...

Speaker: It's from Napoleon Dynamite.

Speaker: That's it.

Speaker: Oh, he calls him a decroated piece of crap.

Speaker: That's right.

Speaker: Doesn't he?

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Napoleon Dynamite.

Speaker: I forgot about that.

Speaker: Holy shit.

Speaker: I just watched that movie recently.

Speaker: Napoleon Dynamite.

Speaker: You were right.

Speaker: Decroated.

Speaker: We're sticking with it.

Speaker: And thank you for NL for bringing surfacing it.

Speaker: Really.

Speaker: Mormon comedic bastards.

Speaker: Thank you.

Speaker: Back up to the top of the.

Speaker: They're Mormon?

Speaker: Yeah, the people who made Napoleon Dynamite are.

Speaker: Huh.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: That's why it's actually a very clean comedy.

Speaker: Interesting.

Speaker: Don't check my sources on that.

Speaker: I'm pretty sure that's what I've heard.

Speaker: Well, you know, okay, so we got a couple bits of business to address.

Speaker: Well, yeah, I am already in the red when it comes to being full of shit on this show.

Speaker: Okay, so number one, the author of the book, Adam Christopher, is that his name?

Speaker: Adam Christopher called us out on Twitter, called Phil out on Twitter specifically.

Speaker: Very nicely, very nicely.

Speaker: He was not a dick.

Speaker: He was a totally nice guy.

Speaker: Just pointing out a few things that were out of... It was less that they were outright wrong.

Speaker: It was more that they were completely out of order.

Speaker: Yeah, kind of.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: And wrong.

Speaker: Out of order and wrong.

Speaker: But if you took the words and you cut them out and you put them in a different order and remove some words, then you would have been right.

Speaker: And that's actually... That's really what matters most, right?

Speaker: That's really what matters most.

Speaker: If you rearrange it, that's let me let me pull it up here.

Speaker: So so we can set the record up the Twitter thread.

Speaker: He says Adam Christopher pointed out first off, he said it was Arcane Leon, FYI, because we were talking about which Arcane had done it.

Speaker: He said, I went out there three times for meetings and to play the games and expansions while they were in development.

Speaker: So that that that answers.

Speaker: one of our questions like that we always ask if we have someone on the show.

Speaker: So there's that.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: And then I wrote, I'm very grateful you did an episode of Dishonored, but your intro info is almost totally incorrect.

Speaker: Empire State is not IP work for hire.

Speaker: That was my debut original novel.

Speaker: I had four published by Angry Robot, then five from Tor Books before I did my first tie in.

Speaker: So

Speaker: Dude has been writing his own independent shit for a while.

Speaker: And that is that.

Speaker: And here's the thing.

Speaker: If I were in his position, that's absolutely something I would want people to get right.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: So I totally respect that.

Speaker: I get it.

Speaker: And his first time was Elementary.

Speaker: Elementary.

Speaker: That's right.

Speaker: Starring Lucy Liu and Johnny Lee Miller.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: And, and, and, and, but, but it was all, it was, it was all good.

Speaker: He was totally a nice guy.

Speaker: And we're, we're in the process of setting up an interview.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: We're getting him on the show.

Speaker: Why not?

Speaker: It worked.

Speaker: It worked out great.

Speaker: He seems, he seems really cool.

Speaker: So we do, we do love an author getting on the show.

Speaker: We love, I, you know, I love a proactive author, you know, cause I try to, I try to, Hey, you want, you want me to on, you want me on the show to point out what else is wrong?

Speaker: And I was like, yeah, you bet your ass.

Speaker: I like, I like when I tag them and they're like, yeah, this is great.

Speaker: You're an idiot.

Speaker: Uh, and I go, thank you.

Speaker: I knew, I knew that.

Speaker: I knew that.

Speaker: Um, I know, I know.

Speaker: I'm, are you surprised as I am?

Speaker: I have another.

Speaker: Yeah, pretty much.

Speaker: So that was fun.

Speaker: And so that's one of the things we got to get out of the way.

Speaker: So we're clearing the air here.

Speaker: We're clearing airing of the grievances.

Speaker: So, yes, Adam Christopher, you're welcome on the show whenever we'll be glad to have you.

Speaker: Number two is Phil, what are you drinking tonight?

Speaker: Why do both of these have?

Speaker: Why are these both my problem?

Speaker: Well, I misspoke about the Arcane Leone thing.

Speaker: Oh, sure.

Speaker: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker: You know, that was one tweet.

Speaker: Okay.

Speaker: So tonight I am having a delicious, uh, gin and tonic, uh, as I'm apt to do.

Speaker: I frequently do.

Speaker: You, you had, you, in fact, when we first started the show, you were drinking gin that you had made yourself.

Speaker: That's right.

Speaker: That's right.

Speaker: I still, I still do that occasionally.

Speaker: I need to do that again.

Speaker: I'm glad you brought that up.

Speaker: Uh, it's just like any other kind of food when you, when you make it yourself, it just tastes that much better.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Um, so I, so we come to find out, uh,

Speaker: that my particular favorite brand of hard seltzer, and it will not be saying their name on the show here on out is is not just look.

Speaker: We all know that there is no ethical consumption under capitalism.

Speaker: We all know that if you're purchasing something from a company or organization that is larger than six people, you're probably supporting some people who are not politically aligned with you necessarily.

Speaker: They're businessmen.

Speaker: That's how that works.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: There's a difference though between that and actively courting the sponsorship of far right wing incel shitheads.

Speaker: Yep.

Speaker: Which is what my favorite seltzer water was doing.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: And I am just, it was such a bummer.

Speaker: It's such a bummer.

Speaker: It's a bummer seeing JD Vance holding up their fucking merch.

Speaker: Oh.

Speaker: Like a weird little twerp that he is weird little twerp.

Speaker: It's it's it's such a bummer.

Speaker: But, you know, I'm not I, you know, the thing is, is I do believe in, you know, having the courage of convictions and saying, you know, if they're going to be like that, I'm not I'm not just not purchasing their product.

Speaker: It's not like I expect them to miss something.

Speaker: my, you know, you know, money, but it's it's the principle of the thing.

Speaker: And what I'm not doing is buying several cases of it and setting it on fire on a live stream just to spite them.

Speaker: Because that's just advertising.

Speaker: Remember when the weirdos did that for like Nike?

Speaker: Yeah, that's exactly it.

Speaker: Like you could be like, oh, I am against buying Nike on the principle of they use like child labor in foreign countries and they have a history of

Speaker: of ethical worker violations.

Speaker: No, I don't even remember what the weirdos decided.

Speaker: It was for something really weak and sad.

Speaker: It was something, you know, it was something dumb.

Speaker: It always is.

Speaker: It always is.

Speaker: It's really sad.

Speaker: Like it's,

Speaker: It's just transgender folks drinking beer and and, you know, gay people.

Speaker: Isn't that the Dylan Mulvaney thing?

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: It's just always something.

Speaker: And it's that's my point, though.

Speaker: And I think I think it was that they maybe they were doing something with pride.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: I bet you money.

Speaker: I bet you money.

Speaker: It was either pride or it was like Black Lives Matter or something like that.

Speaker: It was either race or sexuality.

Speaker: And

Speaker: That's how that tends to work.

Speaker: So I'm not going to throw a fit, but we have we are officially cutting ties with with dad's favorite hard seltzer.

Speaker: And it's a it's a shame, but that's that's what we do.

Speaker: You got to you got to move on with your life.

Speaker: And I looked it up and the creators of Napoleon Dynamite were BYU graduates.

Speaker: And there you go.

Speaker: LDS.

Speaker: Okay.

Speaker: So Tim, do you know them?

Speaker: Please tell us if you do.

Speaker: Please tell us if you do.

Speaker: I'll check with him this weekend.

Speaker: Check with him this weekend.

Speaker: Yeah, we'll find out.

Speaker: Yeah, we'll find out.

Speaker: And yeah, so if you are a...

Speaker: the leftist who enjoys, who is a creator of an alcoholic hard seltzer that Phil would love.

Speaker: That happens to have a really good fruit punch flavor.

Speaker: That has a really good fruit punch flavor that Phil would love.

Speaker: God, that sounds delicious.

Speaker: I don't even drink alcohol, but like a fruit punch flavored seltzer would hit the spot right about now.

Speaker: It was frustratingly tasty.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: That's the thing.

Speaker: That's the thing.

Speaker: I'm not going to act like they didn't make a good product.

Speaker: That's, that's, that's what, honestly, that is what always pisses me off when somebody gets in trouble or somebody acts a fool and they, and they rightfully get canceled or something like that.

Speaker: Suddenly people, everyone's like going, well, I never thought they were good.

Speaker: I never thought they were funny or I never thought they were talented or I never thought just like, okay, okay, okay, okay.

Speaker: It's more valuable that we accept that they were talented people and still move on.

Speaker: I feel like the peak of that was Louis C.K.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Where a lot of folks were like, ah, he was never funny.

Speaker: Like, yeah, he was pretty fucking funny.

Speaker: He was pretty funny.

Speaker: He was just terrible behind.

Speaker: He was a bad human being behind the scenes.

Speaker: He was just a bad person.

Speaker: And kind of unrepentant about it.

Speaker: Yeah, that's that's how I felt about Cosby, you know, Cosby did some of my favorite fucking routines growing up.

Speaker: And it's it's it's more valuable to be able to say, yes, this person is talented.

Speaker: Yes, this person is funny.

Speaker: Yes, I might miss this person eventually.

Speaker: But my.

Speaker: principles are more important than than, you know, that little shade of regret.

Speaker: You'll find something else.

Speaker: You'll find another comedian.

Speaker: You'll find another musician.

Speaker: I will find another hard seltzer.

Speaker: We move on.

Speaker: We move on.

Speaker: We move on.

Speaker: So speaking of hard seltzer, patreon.com slash pixelipod is the best place to go.

Speaker: If you want something like a hard seltzer experience for a website, go to patreon.com slash pixelipod.

Speaker: You can follow us for free on there.

Speaker: You can give us a dollar and that gets you access to Phil's blog.

Speaker: $5 a month gets you access to the bonus episodes that we record before every episode and the ad-free episode.

Speaker: And $10 a month gets you a shout out in every episode.

Speaker: So to that end, I would like to shout out Ruthless Mudder, Kyle Seaman, Jesus loves you, and Friendly Friend.

Speaker: Thank you for being a friend so much.

Speaker: Patreon.com slash Pixelipod.

Speaker: Woo-woo!

Speaker: Woo!

Speaker: Woo!

Speaker: Yeah, by the way, I didn't tell you this.

Speaker: I have a meeting scheduled with somebody the next week and we might be getting our own theme song.

Speaker: What?

Speaker: Oh, hell yes.

Speaker: Hell yes.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: So we'll see how that.

Speaker: Wow.

Speaker: We've only been doing this for going on four years.

Speaker: We never did think to get a theme song.

Speaker: When I heard the music, the song that I used for Pixel It used in a random YouTubers video one day, I was like, hmm.

Speaker: I gotta do something.

Speaker: I remember that.

Speaker: I remember that.

Speaker: It didn't last long.

Speaker: It was, it was, it was, oh, we're, we're going to have to find.

Speaker: And, and, and honestly, it just, it just kind of worked itself out in terms of us just.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: So I'm meeting somebody next week and we'll, we'll see how that goes.

Speaker: I like your Miskatonic shirt.

Speaker: That's cool.

Speaker: Thank you.

Speaker: Miskatonic Necromancy Department established in 1928 Miskatonic University.

Speaker: Let's go.

Speaker: You got a little Cthulhu.

Speaker: Yeah, there he is.

Speaker: Camilla draws Chibi Cthulhu's.

Speaker: God damn, you must be proud as hell of that girl.

Speaker: She has a chip off the old block.

Speaker: You know that?

Speaker: It's amazing.

Speaker: Speaking of chipping off the old block, let's put this birdie in the marsh.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Body.

Speaker: Marsh.

Speaker: I'm embarrassed.

Speaker: Do it.

Speaker: I don't know why I did it as the... Birdie?

Speaker: Birdie.

Speaker: I don't think that's a dialect that exists.

Speaker: No, I think it's specifically Kristen Wiig's Target employee.

Speaker: Oh, it worked.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: You got half an almond.

Speaker: Put the party in the merch.

Speaker: I love these.

Speaker: But so, yes, part two in Dishonored, the Decroated Man.

Speaker: We're in chapter 11.

Speaker: It's the 12th day of the month of darkness, 1851.

Speaker: Corvo is chilling with a dude named Isaiah or Azaria.

Speaker: I'm not sure how the real name was pronounced.

Speaker: I had it in my head Azaria, but I wondered if that was like Hank Azaria just popping into my head.

Speaker: Yeah, Hank Azaria, maybe.

Speaker: So Krusty the Clown.

Speaker: No, he doesn't do Krusty the Clown.

Speaker: Hank Azaria does.

Speaker: Yeah, Dan Castaneda does Krusty.

Speaker: He does Apu and he does like a whole big collection of them.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: I don't even know what they did with Apu.

Speaker: I remember that being a problem.

Speaker: I think they, oh, Mo.

Speaker: I haven't watched anything new.

Speaker: Mo Wiggum.

Speaker: He does a bunch of them.

Speaker: Superintendent Chalmers, comic book guy, Professor Frink, Kirk Von Houghton, and Duffman.

Speaker: Oh, Duffman is a good one.

Speaker: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker: I have not watched that show in a thousand years.

Speaker: I just...

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: You know what?

Speaker: I feel like we should do a, like, would that be a good bonus series is a new Simpsons.

Speaker: Well, you know, I was thinking my, my wife and I have this thing that we've been doing for years now where during September and October, we just watch horror movies.

Speaker: And I keep telling myself one of these days, I'm going to like work that into like just a tree house of horror marathon because those are always the best.

Speaker: Maybe we could do something like that for the spooky season or

Speaker: something tree house of horror those were always the best episode they were they were really good and almost always the first episode of the season i never thought about that is that true yeah for a long time they were the first episode of of the season just because of the way simpsons started with like football season or whatever oh yeah that's funny

Speaker: Yeah, so anyway, Decroated Man, Corvo is hanging out with Chief Wiggum in a building that overlooks Brigmore, Brigmore, Brigmore, Brigmore.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: who was the leader of the Bottle Street Gang.

Speaker: And in the years since Dishonored 1, he has taken his distillery business legitimate.

Speaker: So Slackjaw was a character in the first Dishonored game.

Speaker: And so in the first level, not the first level, but when you're actually going to...

Speaker: kill the high overseer, the villain high overseer in the first dishonored game.

Speaker: There's a couple side quests you can do.

Speaker: And one of them involves taking care of the Bottle Street gang for a woman named Granny Rags.

Speaker: And Slackjaw is, I don't believe you actually even see him in those like little missions that you're doing.

Speaker: But there is an opportunity later in the game to work with Slackjaw.

Speaker: And then even later in the game,

Speaker: there's a moment where you can save him from being killed by Granny Rags.

Speaker: Okay.

Speaker: So in the universe of this book, the canon version of events is, Quervo clearly saved Slackjaw from Granny Rags.

Speaker: Yeah, that's canon.

Speaker: I love it.

Speaker: So, yeah.

Speaker: And that's basically Slackjaw's kind of repaying Corvo by letting him use his buildings to run this operation from.

Speaker: And Slackjaw's gathered a bunch of other old gang members to act as operatives for this mission.

Speaker: So it's kind of like off the books, so to speak.

Speaker: We'll find out more in a second.

Speaker: In chapter 12, Emily is dressed in her whaler gear,

Speaker: And she arrives at the manor with the rest of the whalers.

Speaker: And she notes that she sees a flash of light nearby that indicates that Corvo's agents have to be on the scene.

Speaker: She's like just like a glint out of the corner of her eyes.

Speaker: She's like, they're here.

Speaker: And Gallia begins splitting up the group of whalers.

Speaker: And Emily nearly blows her cover by not understanding what is going on.

Speaker: And there's like three times in this conversation where Gallia was like, no, seriously, were you not fucking listening to the mission just like 30 minutes ago?

Speaker: We were just talking about what you're doing.

Speaker: And Emily's like, no, totally.

Speaker: I get it.

Speaker: Oh, yeah, it's fine.

Speaker: Just remind me of the broad strokes and also the details.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Nothing suspicious here.

Speaker: Nothing suspicious here.

Speaker: She's like, what's your name?

Speaker: And she's like, I forget what the fake name is.

Speaker: Like, Lana.

Speaker: And Galia is like, luckily, Galia is like, we don't have a lot.

Speaker: She doesn't say that.

Speaker: She's just like, all right.

Speaker: All right.

Speaker: Whatever.

Speaker: Whatever.

Speaker: We're getting pretty lax in our security here.

Speaker: You can, you can see how we used to be a team that was able to take down the goddamn Empress.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: And now we're just like running this, you know, this rinky dink operation.

Speaker: Rinky dink Benny Hill music is playing as they're, as they're doing this.

Speaker: Um,

Speaker: So Emily joins the group that's going into the crypt for the bones.

Speaker: And while they're in there, they get jumped by a few old gang members from the bottle street gang and the hatters.

Speaker: Uh, the whalers are able to get the better of the goons.

Speaker: However, when Gallia drops the gate of the crypt to cause a distraction and, uh, they kill the, the, the guys, but then suddenly there's a whole bunch more where that came from.

Speaker: Guards are out there.

Speaker: There's a fight.

Speaker: And Emily just basically ducks and covers over the hedge.

Speaker: And then she sees Galia running away off in the distance and takes off after her.

Speaker: In chapter 13, Emily chases Gallia into the building and then stops when she sees a bunch of the whalers have been captured, including Rinaldo and his group.

Speaker: Then on the bottom floor, she sees two men step out of the shadows.

Speaker: One is Slackjaw, and the other is clearly Corvo wearing the skull mask that he wears.

Speaker: Oh, my God.

Speaker: It's my dad.

Speaker: It's my dad.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: You know, she never calls him dad.

Speaker: It's always Corvo.

Speaker: No, it's it's always Corvo.

Speaker: And I've only once or twice noticed her referring to him as her father in any way, shape or form.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: I mean, they have.

Speaker: It's like the relationship is a little weird.

Speaker: I don't think if I recall correctly, Emily Damien know that Corvo was her father until she was like 11.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Like, he was always around, but she never knew that.

Speaker: Like, oh, that's dead.

Speaker: Yeah, yeah, exactly.

Speaker: Oh, I get it now.

Speaker: All right.

Speaker: Oh, I get it.

Speaker: Okay.

Speaker: Interesting.

Speaker: So, yeah, it's clearly Corvo wearing the skull mask that he wears when he is performing duties that should not be traced back to the throne.

Speaker: Meanwhile, Slackjaw is absolutely throttling the dudes that have been captured.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: He's not doing a good job at interrogating them, let's say.

Speaker: Not doing a good job.

Speaker: He just has his knuckle busters on and he's enjoying himself too much.

Speaker: He's having too much fun.

Speaker: Absolutely.

Speaker: It's been a while since he's gotten a lot of this pent up street gang member energy out.

Speaker: And now that he's getting it out, he's like,

Speaker: He's just a little too excited.

Speaker: He's just a young man on prom night, just like, ah, he didn't even get the tux pants off.

Speaker: Right, right.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Just didn't even come close.

Speaker: Well, actually, came too close.

Speaker: Came too close.

Speaker: He's just punching these guys basically through the face and out the other side of their head.

Speaker: He'd be like, hey, tell me what you know.

Speaker: Punch and kills them.

Speaker: And it's just like...

Speaker: Okay.

Speaker: And Corvo, meanwhile, is like, buddy, like, like this, this is this, this, there's better ways to do this.

Speaker: This is not working.

Speaker: You are, if they, if you keep killing them, they can never tell us what they know.

Speaker: And Slackjaw is like, yeah, yeah.

Speaker: I guess when you put it that way, I suppose.

Speaker: When you put it that way, I guess that makes sense.

Speaker: That math is math and bro.

Speaker: That math is super math and yeah.

Speaker: And then they put another guy in there and this next guy is like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.

Speaker: You don't.

Speaker: Nope.

Speaker: You don't even need to.

Speaker: I will tell you whatever you want to know.

Speaker: And the guy is, is Ronaldo, who is just basically, I guess, reached the point where he's like, Nope, I don't like this guy.

Speaker: I don't like the, the decoded man that's giving us orders.

Speaker: I'm, I'm ready to flip.

Speaker: He tells Corvo to like reach into his jacket and pull out the bone charm that Ronaldo had found earlier.

Speaker: And it feels weird.

Speaker: It's got like weird,

Speaker: heat and electricity charges and Corvo's like, this is gross.

Speaker: This is a gross bone charm.

Speaker: Even for a bone charm, it's pretty gross.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: And Ronaldo's like, yeah, untie me.

Speaker: I'll tell you everything.

Speaker: I'll tell you everything I know about the new whalers.

Speaker: Chapter 14.

Speaker: Emily follows Galia.

Speaker: Oh, no, I skipped part.

Speaker: Emily watches the whole scene play out through a hole in the floor from the floor above, and then she hears Galia moving around upstairs and goes to follow her carefully.

Speaker: And when she gets up there, Galia blinks around to kind of disorient Emily and then punches her in the stomach.

Speaker: And she's basically, just imagine it's like Great Tiger from- Yes, yes.

Speaker: Yes.

Speaker: Or a great tiger teleports around the ring.

Speaker: And no one knows if she has a glint in her eye that gives away.

Speaker: No, no one can't see it.

Speaker: So great tiger goes around and then punches Emily in the stomach.

Speaker: Of course.

Speaker: Really, really gives it to her.

Speaker: Really gives it to her.

Speaker: Nearly throws up.

Speaker: Throat fff.

Speaker: throat filling with liquids.

Speaker: I had to reread that a couple of times ago.

Speaker: What the fuck did she stab her?

Speaker: Like, Oh no, she's just about to puke.

Speaker: He's just, she, it's just all that bile is it's, it's, you know, you ever get that feeling where the, it's like, Oh, it's right here.

Speaker: Isn't it?

Speaker: It's like, it's right.

Speaker: It's at the top of the esophagus.

Speaker: It's right at the top any further.

Speaker: And it's, it's going to be a full on,

Speaker: Full on puke in session, to be honest.

Speaker: Big time.

Speaker: Big time.

Speaker: Big time.

Speaker: Big time pukers.

Speaker: Big time pukers.

Speaker: That's actually the name of our next podcast.

Speaker: Big time.

Speaker: Big time pukers.

Speaker: I was about to say, don't Google that.

Speaker: Don't Google big time pukers.

Speaker: I feel like that's.

Speaker: I'm going to do it so you don't have to.

Speaker: Hold on.

Speaker: Oh, big time.

Speaker: This is already a business.

Speaker: I'm going to be upset.

Speaker: Jennifer Lawrence is big time puker.

Speaker: It is a YouTube big time puker.

Speaker: Jennifer.

Speaker: Oh, she's what?

Speaker: Okay.

Speaker: I guess Jennifer Lawrence said something about having being a big time puker.

Speaker: Why is safe search on?

Speaker: That should never be on me.

Speaker: I know who I am.

Speaker: I know what I'm about.

Speaker: My search is be unsafe.

Speaker: I want to be out in the uncharted waters.

Speaker: Leave safety for the for the sailors.

Speaker: This is this is this is me you're talking to here.

Speaker: There'll be dragons.

Speaker: Yes.

Speaker: There's a choir question.

Speaker: How long and how many times a day can a person puke?

Speaker: Oh, yeah.

Speaker: I mean, too many.

Speaker: I mean, I don't think there's – is there a limit?

Speaker: Should there be?

Speaker: Should there be?

Speaker: Sometimes I just, like, click on a Quora result, and it never takes me to the actual thing that I clicked on.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: I just clicked on it, and now it's a thing that says, how many times can I get myself sick?

Speaker: How many, how it's about bravery and belief in oneself that there's no, there's no limit.

Speaker: How many humans vomit every second?

Speaker: Oh no, I have to sign up now.

Speaker: I'm not signing up for Quora.

Speaker: Yeah, don't do that.

Speaker: Who actually signs up for Quora?

Speaker: No, that's insane.

Speaker: I mean, a sign from the people who actually ask questions on Quora, which if you're a person, if you're a Quora questioner, hit us up because I have questions for you.

Speaker: you know, uh, cause Quora really, that's where you thought would be a good place to ask that question.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Big time puker just keeps showing up for keeps Jennifer Lawrence.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: That's what a weird show we have.

Speaker: I got a,

Speaker: Yeah, Jennifer Lawrence, big time puker.

Speaker: So I say that SEO is actually really ready to pop.

Speaker: We could probably steal that.

Speaker: We could hop on that.

Speaker: We could hop on that because it's like two YouTube videos about Jennifer Lawrence and then the rest are just generic puke.

Speaker: Easy.

Speaker: Easy.

Speaker: Easy.

Speaker: The easy way.

Speaker: The easy way.

Speaker: So Emily chokes back the big 10 puke and, and, uh, follows Galia back to the slaughterhouse.

Speaker: Galia is like trying to do the, the, the blink, but every time she does it, she's like a little bit worse for wear because she's just like running out of steam.

Speaker: And Emily is able to easily keep up by just running along the rooftops.

Speaker: Uh,

Speaker: She'll Batman her way across the rooftops to follow her back to the slaughterhouse.

Speaker: When Galia gets there, she tells Zhukov that they were jumped and they didn't get everything he wanted.

Speaker: But Zhukov mentions that what they got was enough.

Speaker: and tells Galia that she did a great job.

Speaker: So what I'm gathering is Zukov, this is like the second time he's done this in the book, where Zukov is like, he's one of those people that tells you to arrive at a certain time.

Speaker: assuming that you're going to be late, that you're going to be late and you arrive at the time that they actually want you to arrive.

Speaker: Like, right.

Speaker: He, he's like, Oh no, don't worry about it.

Speaker: I didn't expect, I didn't expect you to actually keep, get your shit together.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: I only wanted five.

Speaker: I asked for 10 because I knew you'd only be able to deliver a handful because you're incompetent.

Speaker: It was just totally fair.

Speaker: Totally fair.

Speaker: Understood.

Speaker: My sweet and competent Galia, you did a great job.

Speaker: He's that kind of father figure.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: So, so Emily is listening to this conversation.

Speaker: And while she is listening, she has another vision like the one before it, this time with Wyatt getting killed.

Speaker: And then she passes out, she blacks out, and she starts falling through the hole in the roof to her imminent demise.

Speaker: Dun, dun, dun.

Speaker: And with that, products and services break.

Speaker: And we're back.

Speaker: Emily is falling still.

Speaker: It's been a chapter.

Speaker: We're in chapter 15.

Speaker: And Corvo is watching this whole scene unfold.

Speaker: He uses his time slow power, which is one of the outsider powers that he has in the first Dishonored game, where basically he can stop time.

Speaker: The upgraded version of it in the game is...

Speaker: So the first version is he can just stop time and you can kind of like look around and get your back bearings.

Speaker: The second version of it is he can stop time and he can move at regular speed so he can like stop time, reposition himself, start time again.

Speaker: So he does that to try to like figure out how he's actually gonna catch Emily and through a combination of stopping time and blinking, he manages to save his daughter and the Empress from falling to her death.

Speaker: Just handy.

Speaker: And he's like, what?

Speaker: Yeah, it's definitely it definitely is written as a slow down kind of moment.

Speaker: It's it's right.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah, exactly.

Speaker: So a few whalers have also come back to the slaughterhouse.

Speaker: And in the background, Corvo hears Gallia start ordering them to catch the intruders that are clearly there.

Speaker: But nobody she she hears the commotion.

Speaker: She's like, go get out there.

Speaker: Somebody's here.

Speaker: So Corvo absconds with his daughter off into the night.

Speaker: He has her over her shoulder.

Speaker: Corvo does get a glance at the man in the coat, Zhukov, and escapes back to Dunwall Tower.

Speaker: Chapter 16, two days later, Corvo is in his office with the high overseer showing him his maps.

Speaker: And it's like the way the scene is written, it's like he's like, Corvo's like, hey, I want you to show you my maps.

Speaker: And it's like we just came in.

Speaker: Like that happened right before this chapter.

Speaker: It was like Corvo ran into him in the hallway.

Speaker: It's like, hey, what?

Speaker: Want to see my maps of the city?

Speaker: It does sound like he's trying to get laid.

Speaker: It's a very, it's a very, would you like to come up to my room and look at my etchings kind of a thing?

Speaker: Would you like to see my praying mantises?

Speaker: It works.

Speaker: It works.

Speaker: Damn it.

Speaker: It works with the kind of girls I go for.

Speaker: Sure.

Speaker: Would it have worked on Emily showing her the.

Speaker: No, no, not in a million years.

Speaker: No, no.

Speaker: My wife is married to me in spite of all of those things, not because of them.

Speaker: See, that's really what happened is you needed to find somebody who was repulsed by that aspect of you, but still loved you regardless.

Speaker: That's exactly it.

Speaker: It shows that she's here for the long run.

Speaker: She's horrified by the things I'm interested in.

Speaker: Exactly.

Speaker: She hates the sin.

Speaker: She loves the sinner.

Speaker: The sin of breeding mantises.

Speaker: Right, right.

Speaker: I am the mantis god.

Speaker: Do you know what I found out?

Speaker: A group of mantises is called.

Speaker: Is it called a cult?

Speaker: It's called a congregation.

Speaker: Isn't that great?

Speaker: I love that.

Speaker: I love it.

Speaker: The congregation of mantises.

Speaker: I love it.

Speaker: You don't see them very often because they do eat each other.

Speaker: They do eat each other.

Speaker: You can't use it that often.

Speaker: Yeah, they don't hang out together unless they're mating.

Speaker: And then there's only one after that.

Speaker: Yeah, exactly.

Speaker: May the best man win.

Speaker: And it's usually a woman.

Speaker: And it's going to be the woman.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: So anyway, Corvo is awkwardly showing his maps to the high overseer and the high overseer is like, yep, this is very nice, Corvo.

Speaker: You did a very cool.

Speaker: Very good.

Speaker: Very good maps.

Speaker: And Corvo is like, all right, now that you're in here.

Speaker: I got to show you something.

Speaker: And the high overseer's I don't like I don't like you like that, Corvo.

Speaker: Yeah, that's not that's not a thing.

Speaker: Corvo pulls out the bone charm and the high overseer's like, oh, my bone charm.

Speaker: Bone charm.

Speaker: Just like that.

Speaker: And he faints on the fainting couch and then pops back up to his feet.

Speaker: And

Speaker: Yeah, the High Overseer like touches it.

Speaker: It's hot.

Speaker: It's like singeing the cloth, the fabric that is that Corvo has wrapped around it.

Speaker: And and Corvo lays out the facts of what's going on, basically, including that with the whalers, including if the new leader of the whalers is wearing a Tivian military jacket.

Speaker: And he dismisses it that he's like, he doesn't think that it's actually a Tivian, an act of Tivian aggression that this is.

Speaker: You just think that's, it's, the guy is probably Tivian.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: But maybe it's Dowd.

Speaker: Who knows?

Speaker: Yeah, who knows?

Speaker: Korver tells the Overseer that the next target of the Wailers, according to Rinaldo, is the Boyle Mansion during the Masquerade because there's something there that they need.

Speaker: And the idea is that they'll have a bunch of people there to protect the Masquerade.

Speaker: And then they'll be able to send another group to the Slaughterhouse to capture Zhukov.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: It's a plan that could never fail.

Speaker: We have two parts more of the book after this, and clearly it's going to go off.

Speaker: You'll notice that this is only the second episode, and there's about 150 pages left.

Speaker: It might not go as easily as they're hoping.

Speaker: Dead giveaway.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Dead giveaway.

Speaker: Chapter 17.

Speaker: Corvo lets Jameson, who is the guy in charge of the City Watch, in on the plan and then makes his way to the throne room where Emily is already waiting with everybody.

Speaker: And Corvo's like, I wasn't aware of a meeting.

Speaker: And Emily is like, yeah, get in here, Corvo.

Speaker: Dad.

Speaker: She puts out a plan that would throw Corvo's plan into disarray.

Speaker: She's like, I would just like guards everywhere.

Speaker: Just post them through all the city, all out through the city.

Speaker: And Corvo's like, uh, that's a bad plan, your highness.

Speaker: How about you not do shit?

Speaker: How about you leave it to me?

Speaker: And and everybody's like stops and is like the only person who would dare say anything like that would have been Corvo.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: Because he's daddy.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Corvo is daddy.

Speaker: And if it's true that Pedro Pascal is going to play him in any film adaptation or TV adaptation,

Speaker: Double daddy.

Speaker: Is that is that a thing?

Speaker: I kept seeing.

Speaker: I don't know if it's just Internet lore or something, but, you know, I look for images and stuff that are appropriate for sharing, you know, on our on our our announcements and stuff on Twitter and Instagram and everything like that.

Speaker: And it just kept coming up.

Speaker: Like so many different artists, like their, their handle on Pedro Pascal as Corvo to the point that that must've been a thing that we're talking about.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: The other person that came up, which could also work is also a game of Thrones alum.

Speaker: Nicolaj Coster.

Speaker: Oh yes.

Speaker: Yes.

Speaker: I see it now.

Speaker: Okay.

Speaker: Okay.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: So that's good.

Speaker: That guy needs more work.

Speaker: He's a very talented dude.

Speaker: He is very talented.

Speaker: And I would like to see him in more things.

Speaker: I love the fact that in the first season of Game of Thrones, they're like, he's blonde because he's Lannister.

Speaker: And like halfway through, they're like...

Speaker: Fuck it.

Speaker: I don't want to dye this guy's hair anymore.

Speaker: I'm tired.

Speaker: He's got dark hair.

Speaker: It's a show over.

Speaker: The writers were saying that.

Speaker: Why not the hair designers?

Speaker: The hair people were like, nah, he's got brown hair now.

Speaker: It's fine.

Speaker: It's fine.

Speaker: There's no one else noticing that he's magically had brown hair.

Speaker: It's fine.

Speaker: It's fine.

Speaker: The whole thing was that he had blonde hair.

Speaker: No, it wasn't.

Speaker: It's fine.

Speaker: Are you sure?

Speaker: I feel like I remember.

Speaker: It's fine.

Speaker: I feel like that was a pretty big plot point.

Speaker: Season one.

Speaker: It's fine.

Speaker: How the brown hair was the dominant gene.

Speaker: Fucks up the first season a lot.

Speaker: It does.

Speaker: Doesn't it?

Speaker: Brownish blonde of hair.

Speaker: It's just a dirty blonde, a really dirty blonde.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Just a real dirty, real dirty blonde.

Speaker: Like fuck his sister kind of dirty.

Speaker: That's a shocking show.

Speaker: Well, it is a shocking show.

Speaker: Spoilers for Game of Thrones.

Speaker: For the first season, for the first episode, for the first episode, for the first 15 minutes.

Speaker: Yeah, pretty much.

Speaker: I mean,

Speaker: I feel like they got to that pretty quick.

Speaker: They did get to that pretty quick.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Oh, Jamie.

Speaker: He turns out to be one of the good guys in the end.

Speaker: Kind of.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: I love those stories.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Love those stories.

Speaker: Fucks everything up in the end.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah, he does.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Anyway, Corvo is like, hey, Lady Emily, that's a terrible idea.

Speaker: And he plays this game in his head of does she know or does she know I know she knows or do I know she knows I know she knows?

Speaker: Yeah, it's pretty great.

Speaker: I mean, that's you think Kevin's joking.

Speaker: That's basically how it goes.

Speaker: It's fantastic.

Speaker: Because up until this point, he's like, I'm pretty sure she doesn't remember me saving her.

Speaker: But does she?

Speaker: Does she know?

Speaker: No, she doesn't.

Speaker: Does she know?

Speaker: But if she knew, would she know that I knew?

Speaker: It's pretty great.

Speaker: It's pretty great.

Speaker: But she does know that she, he doesn't know that she knows because she did see him.

Speaker: Yeah, yeah.

Speaker: It's good.

Speaker: It's fine.

Speaker: Anyway, Corvo basically pretends like he came up with his plan on the spot just then.

Speaker: All according to my plan.

Speaker: The same plan that he gives to the high overseer, he just kind of like talks through right then and there.

Speaker: And also adds on like, Emily, you'll be in the castle because the Empress doesn't go to the masquerade.

Speaker: So you'll be safe here.

Speaker: And Emily's like,

Speaker: Sure.

Speaker: Emily's like, I'm going to have my goddamn Cinderella moment.

Speaker: You fucker.

Speaker: You fucker.

Speaker: I don't care if there's a criminal enterprise wandering around.

Speaker: I want, I want my moment, which for her is not, she is, uh, by the way, Emily does not wear, uh, she is a, uh,

Speaker: She's an icon in terms of wearing suits.

Speaker: She doesn't wear dresses in the – she wears a trouser.

Speaker: I think they're called trouser suits or something like that.

Speaker: Like a pantsuit basically.

Speaker: Pantsuits, yeah.

Speaker: She's big on that.

Speaker: It's like Hillary Clinton but cooler.

Speaker: Yeah, but less war hawkey.

Speaker: Less war hockey and less wanting to ban video games and less moving the Democrats to the right.

Speaker: This is going great.

Speaker: This is going great.

Speaker: You know, I should add a like to the I blame Ronald Reagan.

Speaker: I should also add an I blame Bill Clinton sticker.

Speaker: Oh, sure.

Speaker: Because.

Speaker: A lot of people don't realize this is that Bill Clinton wins in the 90s.

Speaker: And as a Democrat, he's like, I'm going to enact Republican policies.

Speaker: And the Republicans answer to that was going even batshit crazier to the right with Newt Kingridge.

Speaker: And they weren't even as far to the right as they are now.

Speaker: But it was like it was a jump.

Speaker: They keep saying things like, you know, well, it's just, you know, it's like if we give in a little, if we can, you know, give in a little, everyone will work together to meet in the middle.

Speaker: No, they will not.

Speaker: We have found that it's not, that's not how it works.

Speaker: Just have principles and good policy and go to town.

Speaker: We only have the last 20 years as proof.

Speaker: Stick to your principles and stick to good policy.

Speaker: Don't fucking bipartisan.

Speaker: If they want to join, they can join.

Speaker: But it's not going to happen otherwise.

Speaker: Fuck them.

Speaker: What were we talking about?

Speaker: Dishonored.

Speaker: I blame Ronald Reagan.

Speaker: I think we should.

Speaker: We should.

Speaker: Chapter 18, 15th day, month of darkness.

Speaker: So it's like the next day, basically.

Speaker: Emily is trying to talk herself into trusting her father's plan while she's wiling the day away around Dunwall Tower.

Speaker: She then heads to her safe room where she checks on her gear.

Speaker: She's like, I'm just going to check my little crossbow bolts, you know, make sure they're all here.

Speaker: And then she opens up a safe and takes out a vial, makes sure the stopper is okay.

Speaker: And then she's like, I'm just going to take this with me.

Speaker: Um, and then, uh, later, uh, Wyman shows up her boy toy.

Speaker: Um, they're so cute together.

Speaker: They are cute.

Speaker: They're very cute.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: They are very cute.

Speaker: They're adorable together.

Speaker: But she's clearly working on some sort of plan.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: She's like, oh, boy, I'm going to have to fuck you up, huh?

Speaker: I'm going to have to.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: So she offers him a drink and he drinks it and is knocked out.

Speaker: So I just want to say, yes, we should be judging Emily for this because she does.

Speaker: roofie her she roofies him yeah yeah without but with without without you know a without any additional ulterior motives ulterior motives still not great not great not great memily but she's doing i get it you're doing what you have to do uh but oh boy for the greater good right

Speaker: Right, right.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Not just because of me.

Speaker: Didn't feel good saying that.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Ha ha ha!

Speaker: So Emily, you're losing some points here.

Speaker: This would go, we'll go towards your chaos score at the end of the game.

Speaker: I don't, but it wouldn't though, wouldn't it?

Speaker: Didn't she drain like a sleep dart to, to, yeah, that's true.

Speaker: So it's, she's, it is just a sleep jar and she sleep darts are low chaos, but,

Speaker: But for the for the formula for the formula, sleep darting your boyfriend to get a I guess it's fine.

Speaker: I guess it's look, it's just good, sexy fun.

Speaker: There's not a it's not a big deal.

Speaker: They seem like they have that kind of relationship.

Speaker: They're fine.

Speaker: They're fine.

Speaker: Anyway, I.

Speaker: She heads over to the workroom and haberdashery.

Speaker: Yes.

Speaker: My favorite fucking word.

Speaker: That's a good word.

Speaker: To find something to wear to the masquerade.

Speaker: And then she remembers one that she saw, which is a black suit with gold inlays and a black sparrow mask that was not too overstated.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: And she puts it on and she is off to the masquerade.

Speaker: Oh, get your, get your, get your dress ready.

Speaker: You're going to be the belle of the ball.

Speaker: You're going to be belle of the ball.

Speaker: And we got an interlude to end the section.

Speaker: A scene from six years earlier where Emily arrives in the throne room and is jumped by a bunch of goons.

Speaker: And it just like cuts to right afterwards where she's laid them all out.

Speaker: And her only injury is a broken nose.

Speaker: And Corvo was is like, oh, yeah, they did pretty well.

Speaker: And she's like, what the fuck do you mean?

Speaker: They did pretty well.

Speaker: He's like, oh, yeah, no, I had them.

Speaker: I had them attack you to see where your training was.

Speaker: And I'm like, wow, father of the year material right here.

Speaker: It's got it's it's got.

Speaker: Batman and Damien all over it.

Speaker: Like it's just, it's pure.

Speaker: And she's like, she's like, Oh yeah, cool.

Speaker: I guess I did do pretty good.

Speaker: All right.

Speaker: I guess I did do pretty good, but it's come on.

Speaker: Uh,

Speaker: Bruce, you shouldn't be transferring your personal PTSD onto your child.

Speaker: I thought you were going to say, Bruce, you should not be having children.

Speaker: That's probably the simplest solution.

Speaker: That's the real cut to the quick of it.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: You know, I kept forgetting that he's it's it's it's Batman and Talia Al Ghul.

Speaker: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: That is one fucked up little kid.

Speaker: That is that that that is I mean, you know, he's going to have a good head of hair.

Speaker: Oh, sure.

Speaker: Yeah, yeah.

Speaker: He's going to look great.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: As he's murdering thousands.

Speaker: There's no way he keeps to the non-killing rule.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: So he's technically the fifth Robin.

Speaker: Oh, okay.

Speaker: So who's the...

Speaker: Who are the other Robins?

Speaker: So the original is Dick Grayson, obviously.

Speaker: Dick Grayson.

Speaker: Jason Todd.

Speaker: Jason Todd.

Speaker: Dies, comes back.

Speaker: He's the Red Hood.

Speaker: Tim Drake.

Speaker: Oh, I forgot about her.

Speaker: Spoiler.

Speaker: Not that this isn't a spoiler.

Speaker: She was her.

Speaker: Stephanie Brown became Robin for a bit and then was fired from being Robin and became a hero named Spoiler.

Speaker: Oh, I thought you were warning us about spoilers.

Speaker: No, no.

Speaker: And then she became the newest Batgirl.

Speaker: I feel like she died at one point.

Speaker: Everybody dies.

Speaker: That's not the same girl who was the Robin and the Frank Miller.

Speaker: Dark Knight Returns, is it?

Speaker: I remember her.

Speaker: She probably doesn't count in the in the canon aspect of things, though.

Speaker: Dark Knight Returns, Robin.

Speaker: I mean, those were I feel like those have got to be super non-canon.

Speaker: Oh, Carrie Kelly.

Speaker: Carrie Kelly.

Speaker: OK, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker: She doesn't count.

Speaker: She's not, uh, the, I feel like the dark night returns, uh, stuff is like sequestered out.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: That's its own.

Speaker: That's its own thing.

Speaker: No.

Speaker: And the, and the main continuity, as much as that actually exists for DC, it's, uh, it's a lot of shit.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Dick Grayson, Jason, Todd, uh,

Speaker: what's his face uh stephanie brown and then damian wayne okay yeah that makes sense fucking damian jesus christ yeah damian wayne um yeah so that'll do it for this segment uh phil how are you feeling about the book so far

Speaker: I'm enjoying it.

Speaker: It's very dense.

Speaker: I keep being shocked over how dense it is.

Speaker: But then again, and we're going to talk about this in a second, I'm sure, I started playing the game and then I wasn't shocked anymore because that is one thing.

Speaker: thorough fucking game.

Speaker: It's just Bioshock with swords.

Speaker: Really?

Speaker: It's that kind of level of, of in debt.

Speaker: No, I I'm enjoying it.

Speaker: I think Adam has got a great sense of who these characters are.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: That he is.

Speaker: And he's done a good job of,

Speaker: doing a little bit of kind of like, I don't know, required fan service and bringing in some old characters and, and hinting at other things while creating his own story with characters that are their own thing.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: And I think that's really cool.

Speaker: And that's, and that's, that's a hell of a lot better than, than, than some of the, the shit that we've dealt with in terms of adaptation on the show where they basically just, just do what the game says.

Speaker: So,

Speaker: I'm enjoying it.

Speaker: What about you, Kevin?

Speaker: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker: I'm really, I'm really, it's, that's the thing.

Speaker: It's like, it's a long book and there's a lot of information, but at the same time, it's a very quick read.

Speaker: I'm never bored with it.

Speaker: I'm never bored.

Speaker: And it's kind of, it's on the recapping front.

Speaker: It's pretty easy to recap because it's like, it might be dense, but there's a lot of like,

Speaker: You know, that stuff that you don't need if you're recapping it, you don't really necessarily need to talk about.

Speaker: If you're in our position and you're just recapping it, then you don't need to go into all of the details that are there.

Speaker: But they are honestly what make it a lot of fun to read like most things.

Speaker: Yeah, yeah, exactly.

Speaker: And yeah, I feel like Adam has a really good grasp on the Dishonored

Speaker: universe in terms of the, like just the vibes of it.

Speaker: I mean, I mean, it's, uh, I want to say that the planet, the kind of world that Dishonored is on is very, uh, yeah, it's like there's, it's, it's like a lot of, uh, islands basically.

Speaker: Yeah, it's it's yeah.

Speaker: From what I can tell, it's a series of islands.

Speaker: It's a very nautical kind of.

Speaker: Yeah, that's that's where Scrimshaw and the Bone Charms and the whales are play such a huge role in it.

Speaker: It's kind of crazy.

Speaker: I've I've only dipped my toe in this, but the idea that they haven't gotten into some sort of nautical aspect for this game, some sort of swashbuckling riding on a ship kind of thing seems crazy to me.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: But damn, damn, still enjoying it.

Speaker: Yeah, yeah, exactly.

Speaker: So, Phil, that really only leaves one thing to be asked.

Speaker: Oh, to tell.

Speaker: What are you playing?

Speaker: Oh, okay.

Speaker: Well, I just brought up the first one.

Speaker: Dishonored.

Speaker: I started playing dishonored.

Speaker: I think you and I are around the same place based on the achievements.

Speaker: I, I, I'm really enjoying it.

Speaker: I tried this game years and years and years ago and was just kind of, well,

Speaker: But I did.

Speaker: I've played through.

Speaker: I've recently killed the high overseer.

Speaker: Did you kill him?

Speaker: What kind of are you doing?

Speaker: Kevin, I'm killing everybody.

Speaker: It's just it's just a mess.

Speaker: I am going to leave this city so much worse than I found it.

Speaker: Let me let me walk you through it.

Speaker: Let me walk you through it.

Speaker: This is, this is how I play dishonored now.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: If this were Phil from God, five years ago, not even 10 years ago, five years ago, Phil from five years ago, we'd get in there full stealth mode, uh, uh, trying to.

Speaker: not set off any alarm and save scumming and returning back and forth.

Speaker: Yeah, quick save, quick save.

Speaker: Yeah, yeah.

Speaker: And the moment I get caught just loading the old one, just until I get it clean and pure Paragon light side, non-chaos, as much as I can possibly do it.

Speaker: That is how it would have been as little as five years ago.

Speaker: Now, I really can't play games like this for much longer than 15, 20 minutes of time.

Speaker: Sure.

Speaker: Because I have a son and he is tiny and very opinionated, let's say.

Speaker: Sure.

Speaker: I get into it and I'm like, OK, let's do it.

Speaker: And like trying my way.

Speaker: And the first if let me tell you something, if you're a guard and dishonored and you're one of the first couple of guards, you're very safe.

Speaker: You're probably fine.

Speaker: Sure.

Speaker: I just I just choked you out and left you on the side, you know, and maybe even sleep darted you or something like that.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: The rest of you, I inevitably fuck something up.

Speaker: And instead of loading up and trying again, I just went.

Speaker: Fuck it.

Speaker: Because the swashbuckling is a lot of fun.

Speaker: And I just.

Speaker: I got my pistol.

Speaker: I got my sword.

Speaker: What else am I supposed to do?

Speaker: So many dead guards, Kevin.

Speaker: So much death.

Speaker: And then, and after thy fucking

Speaker: after I cleared out that after I cleared out that first one and just fucking killed the shit out of that guy, you know, the next level they pointed out what you pointed out last episode.

Speaker: They're like, by the way, the more people you kill and stuff like that, you'll notice that there's more pestilence and chaos and shit like that in the world.

Speaker: And I was like,

Speaker: Let's do it.

Speaker: I'm the king of chaos.

Speaker: I'd rather serve in hell than I'd rather rule in hell than serve in heaven.

Speaker: Fuck it.

Speaker: Chaos drains.

Speaker: So much blood.

Speaker: So much blood.

Speaker: I'm really enjoying it.

Speaker: The rats are everywhere.

Speaker: The rats are everywhere.

Speaker: Not always a great sign for me, but I can usually climb above them.

Speaker: It's fine.

Speaker: Yeah, there's always a place above.

Speaker: It's funny because like half of the outsider powers are just like getting around powers.

Speaker: And then the other half are like real dark side shit.

Speaker: Like killing someone gives you life back.

Speaker: Sick.

Speaker: Let's do it.

Speaker: Killing them when they're unaware makes their body dissolve into ash.

Speaker: I love it.

Speaker: I'm going to get those.

Speaker: I'm going to get those because at this point, who cares?

Speaker: I know what I'm playing.

Speaker: I know what I'm about.

Speaker: It doesn't matter.

Speaker: I know what I'm about, son.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: So I'm really enjoying it.

Speaker: It's still a beautiful game for being over 10 years old.

Speaker: That's the thing is,

Speaker: And there's been kind of like a big thing, not a big thing, but a bubbling up of in the last few years where people are like, photorealism really kind of ruined game development, didn't it?

Speaker: We didn't need that.

Speaker: And I agree because it's like, I won't go as far to say it's ruined it, but it does fuck you up.

Speaker: It jams you up.

Speaker: It gets you twisted because you're looking for...

Speaker: style, right?

Speaker: The style is more important than just making it look as real as possible.

Speaker: And we look at something like Dishonored, which 12 years on from its initial release, 10 years on, whenever it came out, it's like, it looks great still.

Speaker: It's a very stylized looking game, you know?

Speaker: Exactly.

Speaker: It's way harder to

Speaker: Yeah, it's way harder to date a game like Dishonored, Bioshock, any number of games like that that have that stylized kind of feel to them because there's nothing to compare it to.

Speaker: It's not it's it's not it's not being compared to the the latest hardware.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: So, yeah, I I'm enjoying it.

Speaker: I'm enjoying.

Speaker: blinking around the city and finding little... Oh, it's so fun when you're like... It's fun.

Speaker: When you're like just playing around and be like, oh, oh, okay.

Speaker: I can get up there.

Speaker: I can...

Speaker: I'm having a lot of fun with it.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: I also played, I played a couple of demos as I want to do.

Speaker: I played campground adventures, which is just terrible.

Speaker: I, I, I thought when I saw the demo at first, I thought that it was like, it would be like a,

Speaker: city builder in a weird way, but like camp themed and me and my wife are very big fans of camping and we, we like to do that or we, we did.

Speaker: Um, and, uh, and I thought that's, but it's, it's, uh, it is, it was clearly made for the phone.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: Uh, and it's just a, one of those procedural, you've got workers now do this, now do that.

Speaker: And they put them, yeah, it's, it's, it's fine.

Speaker: Speaking of stylized, the style of it should have given it away right off the bat that this was meant for the phone.

Speaker: It's fine, but it's not something that you should be playing on your computer.

Speaker: And then I downloaded the demo for Worshippers of Cthulhu.

Speaker: Okay.

Speaker: Yes, now this is a city builder.

Speaker: I also played this, so I'm here.

Speaker: Oh, no shit.

Speaker: That's great.

Speaker: That's great.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Uh, yeah, so it's it's a city builder.

Speaker: It kind of reminds me of Banished in a way.

Speaker: It's got that similar kind of style to it in terms of just the

Speaker: very simple style.

Speaker: They make the mistake, I think, of giving us close-ups of like your advisors and trying to animate them and shit.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: And like demons that come out of, and it just looks kind of cheap.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: But it does a city builder well.

Speaker: You just take any city builder that you've ever played.

Speaker: uh and you add the fact that you're on ryla uh and uh you're gonna try to wake up the older god you know like that's that's really it it's um it's very interesting it's it's uh i don't know if i i don't know if i'm it's enough to get the full game but uh

Speaker: Yeah, I'm curious.

Speaker: And also I'm curious to see if they update the demo over the course of development.

Speaker: I imagine it's going to be a couple of years before the full game actually comes out because the demo is well, the demo is labeled as pre alpha, which makes no sense.

Speaker: I didn't notice that.

Speaker: You can't have a thing.

Speaker: That's not really a thing.

Speaker: Like your alpha is your first.

Speaker: Anyway, whatever.

Speaker: So not for me to determine how they label their stuff.

Speaker: But yeah, I agree.

Speaker: It's an interesting, you know, little city builder.

Speaker: The only thing you there's no real.

Speaker: It's not like a SimCity city builder.

Speaker: It's like a city builder where you plop a building down.

Speaker: It needs to just be near the resources that it is going to acquire.

Speaker: And you got to make sure everything is connected by a road.

Speaker: Yeah, make sure everything's connected.

Speaker: Pretty straightforward.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah, it needs a lot of TLC in terms of the way it throws a lot of numbers at you that don't really make sense right away.

Speaker: And also because it's like, oh, you need to move on with this quest.

Speaker: You need to build this thing.

Speaker: So build it now.

Speaker: And I'm like, all right, well, how do I do that?

Speaker: And it's like...

Speaker: Oh, I have to carve a bunch of totems in order to do that.

Speaker: Okay, I get that now.

Speaker: It's not always clear.

Speaker: It's not super clear.

Speaker: So some of the tutorializing of it needs to be tweaked.

Speaker: The UI, definitely.

Speaker: That's something I've become a stickler for is like, nope, bad font.

Speaker: That is not a good font.

Speaker: Ha!

Speaker: Well, it does.

Speaker: I hate to be that guy, but it does cheapen things.

Speaker: It's like we're talking about conscript last week, and it's just like that that art really is going to fucking, you know, that is bad.

Speaker: Makes a difference right there.

Speaker: It's bad art and it's going to make people think you've got some sort of asset flip going.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: And that's not what that game is.

Speaker: It's a really good game.

Speaker: So the same developer, Crazy Goat, developed a similar game called Republic of Pirates, which is a pirate city builder, which I'm downloading the demo for now because that that I mean,

Speaker: It feels like they're tapping into fandoms that I'm a fan of.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: I got to try it.

Speaker: But well, Kevin, keep going.

Speaker: What are you playing?

Speaker: Well, aside from Worshippers of Cthulhu, I have played.

Speaker: I'm still somehow playing Elden Ring.

Speaker: Somehow nothing.

Speaker: Somehow.

Speaker: It's not a game.

Speaker: It's an ocean.

Speaker: It's an ocean.

Speaker: That's like crazy.

Speaker: That's that is the that's like Alan Wake right there.

Speaker: It's not a lake.

Speaker: It's not a lake.

Speaker: It's an ocean.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: So, yeah, I won't even get into it.

Speaker: But yeah, Dishonored.

Speaker: So, OK, one question.

Speaker: Did you execute the high overseer?

Speaker: How did you handle him?

Speaker: How did you?

Speaker: I.

Speaker: I think I executed him.

Speaker: No, no, I didn't.

Speaker: I followed him.

Speaker: I followed him down.

Speaker: I tried.

Speaker: I thought that I saved the guy.

Speaker: There was the little bonus thing where you try to keep him alive, and I sleep darted him, and I got that correctly, I thought.

Speaker: And so the overseer ran off, and I followed him down into the basement, and I think I just diced him up.

Speaker: I don't think I actually... I don't think I actually...

Speaker: Did an execution.

Speaker: But then when I got back to the hideout, the gal who gave me the side quest was talking about how I killed her uncle and shit.

Speaker: And I was like, I don't think I did that.

Speaker: I didn't think I killed him.

Speaker: I thought I sleep darted him.

Speaker: But knowing you, it could have been.

Speaker: He's one of the few people who survived, as far as I can tell.

Speaker: Yeah, he's mentioned specifically in the book that we are reading.

Speaker: That is a surviving person from the story.

Speaker: So, yeah, there's a few ways around that.

Speaker: Like when you get into the, you can hide, you can get into the room that they're going into and switch the drinks because the high overseer is going to poison him.

Speaker: Yes.

Speaker: And I tried to do that.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: And I broke them somehow.

Speaker: And that was a mess.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: I don't know how it happened.

Speaker: I just, I like, cause I had, I had the poison, all that shit.

Speaker: And I like, I thought I did the right one.

Speaker: And then, and then I, my sword came swinging out.

Speaker: It's, it's tough being old in the gamer.

Speaker: It just, I just, I feel like my mom trying to play super Mario brothers on the NES, like, and going, what do I do?

Speaker: How do I go?

Speaker: What's the Mario doing?

Speaker: Why is that?

Speaker: What's that little ethnic man doing?

Speaker: What's, what's a Luigi?

Speaker: And it's just, I'm,

Speaker: I feel like I'm getting further away from it.

Speaker: Uh, so I tried every day.

Speaker: Further away from the grace of God.

Speaker: Um, it's true.

Speaker: So answer your question.

Speaker: I think I just slashed him to ribbons.

Speaker: I think I just cut him up.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: I, uh, uh, I, well, I do what I, I always did is, uh, I, um,

Speaker: Basically, I sleep dart him while he's right before they're about to drink.

Speaker: I sleep dart him and the city watch guy is like, what the fuck?

Speaker: And he runs off and he gets his city watch guys and they're like, find whoever did this.

Speaker: And then I grab his body and I take him down the hallway and I put him in the chair and I get the brand of the heretic and I brand his face.

Speaker: What?

Speaker: This is one of the ways that you can deal with him is you brand his face with a giant H to show that he is a heretic and therefore cannot be a high overseer.

Speaker: Oh, shit.

Speaker: So he's a lot.

Speaker: That's crazy.

Speaker: You can do it so that he lives, but he lives in his excommunicated.

Speaker: Like he does.

Speaker: He still suffers.

Speaker: He still suffers.

Speaker: He's excommunicated and loses his position because he has been branded as a heretic.

Speaker: Good Lord.

Speaker: Okay.

Speaker: That's cool as shit.

Speaker: I didn't know how deep this shit goes.

Speaker: I think all the bosses have something you can do where it's like that.

Speaker: By the way, did you know Carrie Fisher is in this game?

Speaker: No.

Speaker: Who is she?

Speaker: She is.

Speaker: So, you know, the guy who's constantly doing announcements over the loudspeaker?

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Okay.

Speaker: Well, if at a certain point later in the game, you'll get a chance to possibly kill that guy.

Speaker: Okay.

Speaker: When that guy dies, he's replaced by another voice.

Speaker: And that voice is Carrie Fisher.

Speaker: Lovely.

Speaker: We should all be so lucky to be replaced by someone as excellent as Carrie Fisher.

Speaker: It's lovely.

Speaker: Um,

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: So fucking Dishonored.

Speaker: I love that game.

Speaker: It's a great game.

Speaker: It's a great game.

Speaker: I swear, I think it's my third time through it, but it's my first time through it playing it on Steam.

Speaker: I don't even know what I played it on before.

Speaker: As we talked about before, getting it on Steam and getting those achievements is really all that matters.

Speaker: Getting those Chivos, you know?

Speaker: I also started playing Dragon's Dogma 2.

Speaker: Oh, okay.

Speaker: Okay.

Speaker: Still don't understand what the game actually is yet.

Speaker: I'm not quite grokking the nature of it.

Speaker: Okay.

Speaker: So I'll report back.

Speaker: I know it was a huge release this year and it's a Capcom game.

Speaker: There were a lot of people who were kind of up and down about it though.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: It's a Capcom game.

Speaker: It's a company.

Speaker: It's an RE engine game.

Speaker: It's actually the character creator is like one of the most robust character.

Speaker: Like you can get in there and like every little detail you can get right.

Speaker: Nice.

Speaker: Nice.

Speaker: So you can really make a character that you would like to have sex with.

Speaker: The goal of every gamer.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: The goal of every character creator.

Speaker: Like, yeah, that's real sexy.

Speaker: That's the one.

Speaker: I don't know why this popped into my head.

Speaker: I was thinking of that tweet where it's the picture attached is the photo of Elliot Gould and Elmo.

Speaker: The cover of TV Guide.

Speaker: And it's like, it's like, boss, hey, did you get that picture of Elliot Gould?

Speaker: Photographer.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: And it's real fucking sexy.

Speaker: Just like you wanted.

Speaker: And it goes, boss, what?

Speaker: That's right.

Speaker: We forgot about that.

Speaker: That's a load bearing tweet in my head.

Speaker: Oh, my God.

Speaker: That's a good one.

Speaker: Um, but yeah, that's it.

Speaker: That's all I've been playing, uh, this week.

Speaker: I don't think this has ever happened where you and I played the same game for two thirds of our, two thirds of them were the same game.

Speaker: That's impressive.

Speaker: And, uh, friends, well, not friend of the show yet.

Speaker: Uh, but she is in our discord.

Speaker: Allie meowie, uh, bought me before your eyes.

Speaker: Uh, Oh,

Speaker: So I will probably get that going soon.

Speaker: From what I understand, it's you have to have your webcam on or something like that because it.

Speaker: Jesus.

Speaker: It like it advances when you blink or something like that.

Speaker: Okay.

Speaker: I have heard of this game.

Speaker: Yes, yes, yes, yes.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Oh yeah.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: I've I've heard this.

Speaker: This is crazy.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: So yeah.

Speaker: Doing that.

Speaker: All right.

Speaker: Well, that'll do it for tonight's episode.

Speaker: Thank you so much for listening.

Speaker: You know,

Speaker: Say, say, how do you do to fellow Picks Lit fans?

Speaker: Say, how doody.

Speaker: How doody.

Speaker: How do you do?

Speaker: How do you do?

Speaker: How do you do?

Speaker: How do you do?

Speaker: How do you mountain do?

Speaker: As the one who was closest to being an Appalachian on the show by, how do you drink your mountain do?

Speaker: Out of the bottle, mostly.

Speaker: Okay.

Speaker: I have no follow-up to that.

Speaker: I have no follow-up.

Speaker: I'll tell you what.

Speaker: I'll tell you what.

Speaker: The great thing about Mountain Dew is that in most fast food places, if you're a diabetic and...

Speaker: You're basically stuck with Diet Coke at most places you go to.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: But Diet Mountain Dew pops up in a surprising amount of locations.

Speaker: And it's not even like I'm a huge Mountain Dew guy.

Speaker: But if you're just fucking sick to death of drinking Diet Coke every time you're having a burger or something like that, it is a fine substitution.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: So I do have a certain fondness.

Speaker: So my answer to your question is I drink my Mountain Dew sugarless.

Speaker: Sugarless.

Speaker: There you go, everybody.

Speaker: And fuck J.D.

Speaker: Vance.

Speaker: Fuck him.
