Religious Insights and Sales

So many of you know from Utah, which their religion out there, as most people know, is Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints.

A lot of people know us as the Mormons, right, which we try to focus on, you know, Jesus Christ now.

in the title because it says church we believe but I did a two year church service mission for my church they sent me down to Columbia we were preaching down there to the Colombian people it was an awesome experience changed my life

and got to see a lot of people change for the better.

Sherrod, obviously, about Christ and the gospel and talked about repentance, baptism,

It was an awesome experience.

Visualization Techniques in Sales

But the reason I'm bringing that up is something that I remember in, they send us to a missionary training center, it's called.

So I got sent to one in Utah, and then they sent me down to Columbia to one, which felt like a prison cell, honestly, for quite a while.

It was just basically like, I don't know, six rooms in this big complex.

It's surrounded by like a barbed wire fence and everything.

So you felt like you were in jail.

But they trained us there, and one of the talks they had us listen to over and over, it was from one of the past presidents of our church.

His name was Thomas S. Monson.

And one of his talks for missionaries, it's called See Others as They May Become.

And in this talk, he talks about basically the greatest missionaries.

Well, he was like a president of a mission before he became like the president of the church.

And he tells about the greatest missionary he ever had, a missionary that like baptized more than any other missionary that converted more people to the gospel.

And he goes on to say that he went and basically interviewed this missionary.

He was like, man, what are you doing?

What's your secret to baptizing so many people, converting so many people?

And his big secret was, he said, President Monson, I just try to see people as I know they can become.

And he talked about how he would...

You know, meet with so many people that were near there and in drugs, they're smoking a pack of cigarettes every day.

They were doing stuff that isn't encouraged in our church in the gospel.

And he would have he would instead of just like, you know, judging them and just kind of giving up as a lost cause.

He would picture these people like dressed in white people to get baptized in the church.

They dress in white and then you, you know, get baptized by immersion.

getting dunked in the water.

So he would envision these people, just see them already dressed in white.

He would see them not smoking their cigarettes, not doing their drugs.

And he would just imagine that they were already getting baptized the first time he's talking with these people.

And he's already, you know, converting them in his head.

So the reason I mention all this is because in the past several like sales books I read, if any of you have read Closer Survival Guide by Grant Cardone, he talks about basically looking for evidence that people are buyers.

Like when you go into a home,

You should be looking for evidence that that person has bought lots of things, even if it seems like there's no way they're going to buy from you.

There's no way they're going to get solar on their roof.

Look at all the other things they've already bought.

They have a house if you're meeting with them.

They probably have a couple of cars.

They probably have a nice TV.

They bought all those things.

So just reminded me, it's actually pretty similar.

I mean, the mission we are selling people basically to the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Now we're doing the same thing.

So when we're out there, we need to be seeing these prospects as they can become the same thing that this greatest missionary of all time was talking about.

Anytime we're trying to get someone to do something, don't see it as impossible.

Don't see it as an impossible task.

What have they bought already?

What can they become?

Importance of Love and Belief in Sales

right and then the second principle with this is this missionary just shared with um with president monson the mission president he just shares that he's trying to love you know every person he comes into contact with and that's where it gets like you know i know that's fluff that's the that's the woo woo coming in it's like come on how is loving people going to help you in your cells and

Well, it's the same principle with this.

If you love the people, if you know, if you have a deep conviction, deep belief in your product, and then you love that person,

You're going to have way more belief in your product, way more conviction in what you're doing.

And it's the same thing they always taught us when I was on this two-year mission in Columbia.

It's like no matter what, we had to love every person we came into contact with.

And if we did that, if we loved them, then it didn't matter their objections.

It didn't matter how hard they rejected us.

matter how big of jerks they were.

It just mattered that we wanted the best for them and we knew they were going to change their lives by converting to the gospel.

So it's the same thing you're doing in cells and again, sorry to bring so much religion into it.

And I won't spoil all the book, but basically the book goes through these scrolls, these so-called like sales secrets that this ancient sales master is sharing with basically the new guy.

And the second scroll, the second secret, if you will, it says breathe each day with love in your heart.

So it's the same thing.

All these things that are happening behind the scenes, you can learn all the sales techniques in the world.

But if you're not mastering these things that are happening behind the scenes, if you don't have a deep commission in your product, if you don't love your customers, if you don't want what's best for your customers,
