Super Bowl Hype: Chiefs vs Eagles

00:00:22
Speaker
Super Bowl edition, baby. Chiefs and Eagles. How about them? Chiefs.
00:00:31
Speaker
Golly, the bills just couldn't do it, man. They couldn't. That was an insane game. Like being there. First of all, you got to come with us next year. I

Tailgating Tales: Football Fandom

00:00:43
Speaker
i know. I know we worked Sundays, Jersey, all that stuff, dude. We got the tailgating down. Jana. I needed Jana.
00:00:52
Speaker
Boom, we got it figured out and it was a blast to tailgate. It was an insane game. Jana jokes already. She's like, it was you and 12 of your best friends, which is everybody within high five distance of me right there in the stadium. And it was insane. I know I'll apologize. I need to go ahead and address it. I've been sick.
00:01:18
Speaker
Still not feeling great. So I know I'm, I sound even rougher than usual, but, uh, but that game was off the hook. It was off the hook. Oh, it was great to watch. It was a great game. I can only imagine what it was like being there. And of course all it took was Janet to perfect your tailgating habits. Of course, of course. Right. Hey man, a grill and, uh, enough pre-gaming.
00:01:47
Speaker
Good times, buddy, good times. I bet so. The the high fiving and everybody, that sounds like going to the Texas State Bowl game for me and McKinsey. When something happens at those bowl games there in Dallas, everybody's high fiving and going crazy there in those student section areas. So I can only imagine what an AFC championship would be like.

Luka Trade Shock: Mavericks Fans React

00:02:08
Speaker
It was, it really was. Now I will say this, um, according to my wife, there was one, uh, Bill's fans were in a Josh Allen Jersey, about two seats down. And I, uh, don't know. Apparently I told the guy that we had a podcast, so he may listen. So I do owe him an apology because I may have thrown a couple to take that Josh Allen's but By the way, his direction, more or less take that Josh Allen's, we'll leave the language PG on, although the game I'm out of the bed.
00:02:44
Speaker
But anyway, no, it was a lot of fun. I am psyched for the Superbowl. I'm not feeling super confident, but I am psyched about it. I know you're, ah so just so everybody knows, Pete did all the hard work for this episode. He did all the pre-work. So I'm kind of flying by the seat of my pants. So what we're going to do is we'll obviously talk about the Superbowl, but he's got a list. Did you say 14? Yesterday you sent me.
00:03:13
Speaker
Yeah, I think I've got 14 bets total. So there's some prop bets, over unders, you know, obviously we're picking the spread and the game as well, but but yeah, 14 different bets we're going to talk about. 14 bets. And I'll be honest with you, I don't know any of them. I have it. I mean, I'm going to guess, obviously we're going to pick the game, the over and under, um, a couple of things like that. But, uh, so Pete, I told him, I said he's got full reign

Game Analysis: Chiefs vs Eagles Strategies

00:03:39
Speaker
and he, and I actually asked him not to send it to me.
00:03:43
Speaker
So we'll see, but I know, uh, Hey real quick. I know we're like, we can't do a whole new episode on it, but you said earlier before we started recording, we'll wait pizza diehard Dallas, everything fan, Luca trade, man, look at, give me the down and dirty Pete Heinze thought on the Luca trade.
00:04:07
Speaker
All right, so just as quickly as I can, I went to bed right before the trade happened. I must have just fell asleep. And for whatever reason, I don't remember if it was my dog or what. I woke up and I was kind of tossing and turning there. And ah it was about four o'clock. I went to the restroom, came back to bed, and I just thought, you know, I'll click my phone and see what time it is. I didn't have a ah clock on my bedside table. I saw it was about 4.20, 4.25. And I saw I had like 11 text messages from different people.
00:04:41
Speaker
And I opened one for my buddy Bailey, who now lives in Colorado. he yeah We graduated Rockdale together in Texas State together. Shout out Bailey Hilton. He's a doctor now. He's up in and Denver making his rounds. live den Yeah, yeah i lived in Dallas for a little while. and we're We're big Mavericks fans. He was a big Dirk fan. And so we we like live text about the games. like we We're all about it, right?
00:05:04
Speaker
Well, I have multiple texts from him and the first one I opens a picture of the trade like the bleacher report picture of it. I was like, why is Bailey sending

Betting Buzz: Super Bowl Wagers

00:05:12
Speaker
me this joke in the middle of the night? like There's no way. And then I look at the other text and it's other people asking about it. And so obviously I open Twitter or X or whatever the heck you want to call it. And it's everywhere. And so this is four 20 in the morning. I'm dead tired. You know, it's been a long, it's, you know, I'm in the middle of junior high basketball and I've been to Glazier the last weekends. I'm putting hay out for cows. Like I'm kind of stretched in right now. So I'm tired.
00:05:38
Speaker
And let me tell you, I didn't get a wink of sleep after I saw it. Could not fall asleep. I'm just sitting there doom scrolling on Twitter looking at all the reactions from the fans and justifiably so that Nico ripped the heart out of the Dallas fan base. Luca took the mantle from Dirk and was gonna be ours.
00:05:58
Speaker
no matter No matter what the trials and tribulations were, if he was going to win a championship or not, the dudes in the MVP conversation every year since he was 23 years old, he's only 25 and he's only getting better. He's been better on defense the last two years and he just took the team to the finals.
00:06:15
Speaker
And they lost to a team who had the best offensive team ever by the statistics, okay? And they lost in the finals because of offensive struggles from the other guys. Everybody other than him shot 9% from three in the finals, okay? So you take that guy at 25 years old who is buying a, he's literally closing on a $15 million dollars house this week. He's not leaving. And to trade him- He's not anymore. But to trade him in the middle of the night, I can't i just can't fathom it. it's It's ripped the heart out of the fan base. I can't tell you how many fans
00:06:59
Speaker
are going to go protest like the team. Like like it's unbelievable. and And I don't blame them. I mean, I've just felt heartbroken for like, for it's been about three days now. You just walk around and you can't believe it. Like you see something and you're like, how did, how did they do that? It doesn't matter what the return is.
00:07:17
Speaker
You know, all these, you know, they're talking about, well, if them has won a championship with this, you know, older core, they're getting, it'll be worth it. And I'm like, I don't know if it's worth it. Like we were going to have hopefully 10 to 12 more elite years out of this guy. And he was ours. He was going to be our Kobe, Tim Duncan, Dirk, like these guys who stay one place forever.
00:07:38
Speaker
And they're just years to have. And I would have bet on him winning over 1.5 championships as a Maverick if he didn't leave. so So winning one without him in this short time, in my opinion, isn't good enough on trading. It's not. It's just not. So it's tough. It's really tough.
00:07:56
Speaker
like you I saw it in the middle of the night I was laying down caught it late so I wasn't going to text you in the middle of the night because I knew your phone was blowing up I knew you were I knew you were aware and I knew you were sick to your stomach and I'm going to tell you guys we're going to have a couple other guys ah on with us I did text our meat mafia group which is our group that does a barbecue competition there in, in Rockdale. But, um, because I knew i I had to get Pete some time. I didn't and didn't want to stir it up too much. I want to give him some time to get it out. But I'm with you. I'm like, I don't, I don't know how you do that. I don't know how you trade that guy.
00:08:46
Speaker
but we won't stay on it too long, but I wanted you to get to say your piece because that's fair as a diehard Dallas Maverick fan. That's, that's fair. It's tough. Mackenzie thought my brother died or something. Cause she was, she fell asleep with the kids that night and came and it was, you know, coming in the bedroom and, and, uh, she saw me laying there scrolling on the phone and I, she could tell I was upset about something. It was in the back, use the restroom and it was maybe getting ready in there or whatever. And I was like,
00:09:16
Speaker
Babe, I got to tell you something. And she's just like, you could tell she looked at me like, oh, no, he's about to tell me like somebody died last night. And I was like, with the straightest face possible. I mean, it was it was like, the Mavericks traded Luca. And she just knew she was like, oh, my gosh, I thought somebody died. But she goes, that's horrible. I don't know how does how does that happen? I was like, that's what I'm saying. How does that happen? I mean, it's a it was just surreal. It's really still unbelievable, honestly.
00:09:45
Speaker
I could see that. Okay. I can see that entire scenario. it might Mackenzie, sweetie. aga I gotta tell you something. Oh my God. Oh my God. What is it? What's happened? The

Halftime Show Speculations

00:10:01
Speaker
man's traded Luca. That's exactly how it went.
00:10:05
Speaker
I can see the whole thing. That's awesome. That's hilarious. Um, anyway, yeah, I'm with you. I'm like, and I like ad, I really do, but oh yeah, man. It's not even not, I don't know how you do it. Yeah. It's really unfair to ad cause he's an unbelievable player. He's all a Famer, but it doesn't matter what he does.
00:10:30
Speaker
Yeah,

Prop Bets Deep Dive

00:10:31
Speaker
he's he's I hope he's accepted and cheered, but he's just going to get caught in in the booze and jeers for the GM and ownership and it's unfortunate for him.
00:10:41
Speaker
Yeah, he deserves better than that. I agree. I agree. All right, man, onto the Superbowl chiefs. Eagles take two. Um, big difference this time is obviously Saquon Barkley. Um, they say that this may be the shape the best Eagles align, even though Jason Kelsey's not at center the last time you and I did it. Last time we did a Superbowl episode.
00:11:08
Speaker
It was chief seagulls. We made the argument. Travis versus Jason. I'm going to have to claim victory in the Travis versus Jason argument post. You may have had me, you may have had me in the beginning, but by the end of the game, Travis made a bigger impact. I'm sure that Jason did. So what are your thoughts now? Chief seagulls cheat, very much similar Eagles team plus sake one.
00:11:40
Speaker
Yeah, very similar. I would say their defense is probably better in the secondary. I think the, the issue with the Eagles the last several years has been the secondary and they've done a really good job fixing that and fixing or improving their defensive front even more. I think their defense is really, really, really solid all the way around. The defensive line was good last time. That was remember that was the matchup that everybody worried about from a cheese chance standpoint. So they've had a good D line.
00:12:09
Speaker
but and you're saying secondary, you feel like the secondary is better. Secondary is better for them. Now I think the chief's defense has gotten better. The chief's defense has done nothing but get better in my opinion, just looking from afar, just because they've had the same system in place. And obviously they're led by Chris Jones and Bolton and that linebacker core. Um, but you know what hasn't changed? Patrick Mahomes hasn't changed and He's just getting better and his programming in his brain is doing nothing but adding ah memories and sequences and blitzes. And it's just he's just gonna get better mentally and he hasn't lost anything physically yet. you know He's kind of getting into that prime to where he's seen everything, yet he can still do everything physically. you know Those old timey quarterbacks like ah you know Brady at the end and Peyton in the end.
00:13:03
Speaker
um Drew Brees at the end, they know everything that's going on mentally. That's what makes them great. But they don't, they don't, they start losing that physical, note the physical capabilities that made them elite early. And so right now he's at the peak of his powers and both. He could still move around, scramble, do all that stuff. He's the difference maker. He wins the game in a shootout.
00:13:29
Speaker
So I'm taking the chiefs. So if we want to go ahead and get into that as the first bet, it's chiefs minus one and a half. So if you're going to take the chiefs, you might as well take the points and say they're going to win by two. If they win by one, that's just a, you have, you made a bad bet, but, um, I agree. I think you'd be crazy to take the Eagles on the points just based on the fact that chiefs don't lose close games. I mean, have it right all year, including the playoffs.
00:13:57
Speaker
Yep, so I'm taking the Chiefs to win. I think um i don't think it's gonna be a do-over of last time. I think Saquon's gonna have some success. They're a little RPO game they run. you know it's It's very good. It's like a well-oiled machine. But I i see Hertz making a mistake somewhere, whether he you fumbles fumbles a read, throws a bad pick, s sack fumble, something.
00:14:25
Speaker
ah I think he makes the big mistake just like the last time could be in a different way. But I see him making the mistake more than I see my home is making the mistake. And so sometimes you you lose these games more than you win them. And so I'm taking the Chiefs. I'm ah obviously I'm going to take the Chiefs because I'm a homer. But ah but let me tell you, I also think they have the the best coaching staff.
00:14:54
Speaker
right now in the NFL. And I, I, that's probably not fair because I'm not going to, I'm not going to get into how much of that Nagy is involved in the offense. I don't know since Andy calls his own plays. Um, there's a lot more to coordinate in the column plays, which you know, definitely.
00:15:12
Speaker
um but Spags is Spags. Did you see, did you take the time to analyze the blitz on fourth and five that Spags pulled against Josh Allen? Did you get a chance to really kind of look at it?
00:15:31
Speaker
ah So I watched it a bunch, I saw a lot of breakdowns on it, and there's there's two different trains of thought. There's one train of thought that that was a called blitz, and there's one train of thought that that is an automatic call for them. The blitz when the receiver is condensed like that into the boundary, that that is an automatic thing. um I would agree with the automatic. Go ahead. No, go ahead, you got it.
00:16:00
Speaker
I would agree with the automatic thing, except for the fact that it ends up being an a gap blitz. So he literally pulled a corner to the a gap from the boundary.
00:16:12
Speaker
Um, that's crazy, man. That is i like, we coach, we coach high school ball. So we don't have the same kind of athletes, but can you imagine calling a corner, a gap blitz? He played the slide perfectly. He sent three to the left to occupy the three and he sent them all wide. He did two to the right because they were playing a three, two s slide and occupied both.
00:16:40
Speaker
offensive lineman and knew there would be nobody looking for a corner to come through that gap. They're gonna look linebacker. That's where the backs eyes are gonna be. Definitely would not have been to the corner. Crazy blitz, crazy intelligent blitz designed to me.
00:17:03
Speaker
Yeah, and and Josh Allen is known as one of the best protection setters. He sets the protection, not the center. So I will say that Allen set the protection the wrong direction. He set it to the left. And when he dummy count, when he did his dummy cadence,
00:17:20
Speaker
There was three guys in the secondary of the Chiefs that moved to the right, which is to the boundary to the one receiver. So Allen really missed that. If Allen saw that, he should have reset the protection to the right because that should alert him. Somebody is leaving the secondary on the right side. Something's happening on that side for them to be overplaying the single at the snap. Three over two on that side.
00:17:44
Speaker
Yes. So you could see it on the all 22. So Alan misses that. Okay. Now, Alan somehow off his back foot with two guys in his grill, puts the ball in his tight ends, hands, 35 yards, seven feet. But if he catches that pass, we're having a whole different conversation.
00:18:02
Speaker
you're You're not kidding. Let me tell you when, when he threw it up in the stadium, what you saw was five chiefs in the area. Okay. And one bill, what you didn't, what kind of went in slow motion for everybody was the way the ball dropped in the middle of five chiefs to a spot where Dalton has a chance to make a play.

Postgame Predictions: MVPs and Proposals

00:18:28
Speaker
And when you look at the all 22, he is wide open. Chuck, if, if Josh Allen does change the question but a corner, does it? Yeah. Yeah. He's got the corner. around action Yeah. It's either a touchdown to, to donk Kincaid or he's getting tackled at like the eight yard line. If he could set his feet and actually make the throw, he is so wide open. So but it's basically a blood concept. Yeah. But Hey, he didn't get the protection right.
00:18:59
Speaker
And the Chiefs gamble paid off and that's why I like aggressive defenses it and it can bite you in the butt. But you know what? If he would have caught it and scored, it would have left plenty of time for the ah offense to go do something so. And it would have, you're right. I mean, and and again, he makes that play. Here's here's why I like the Chiefs. The Eagles defense is better. um The Eagles offense is better running. And they have so much potential passing.
00:19:29
Speaker
But Jalen Hurts doesn't make good, quick decisions. And I just don't think, I think give him time. He would, he would be able to, with A.J. Brown and Devontae Smith and Dallas Goddard, those guys could, could pick their spots. Spaggs isn't going to give him time for that. So I, I agree. I think the only clear advantage the chiefs have is, um,
00:19:56
Speaker
the the defensive coaching staff, and Spagnola being there so long, and obviously Andy Reed, and Patrick Mahomes. I think every other facet of the team, I think the Eagles have the ah better group at every other facet. But it's I think it's close enough in all those facets to where Mahomes still makes the difference, in my opinion. There you go. There you go. That's what I agree with you. I think on paper, I understand. You know what I mean? I get it.
00:20:26
Speaker
But I do think it's interesting that I've spent all day. Again, I've been home sick. Listen to the people make that same argument that the on paper, the Eagles are probably the better team, but the Mahone's factor keeps it close. And if it's close, he wins kind of like the Brady factor we've dealt with for years.
00:20:50
Speaker
And it's not a guarantee, you know, you know, the Eagles might come out and just the Chiefs might not be able to stop him running the football. And maybe, you know, maybe a pass gets tipped for my homes and maybe the Eagles, you know, get, you know, either get a defensive touchdown or it sets up the offense close. So it's going to be a close game. I don't, I don't see it being a blowout either way. And I think both offenses are going to find some success.
00:21:15
Speaker
I think you're right. And Saquon is probably the most explosive guy in this game. Um, so yeah, I watched, I said in the, in the tailgate, in the parking lot there at Arrowhead Stadium and listening to the game while I was cooking and, you know, having to go to my neighbor's television every, you know, about every five minutes go, what's Saquon do there? Oh my God, I just heard it. I want to see it. Um, so he scares me, but, um, we'll see. I think the ma homes factor is the factor, you know, is that what does it. So since we both agree on the chiefs and a close one, let's talk about prop bets. What are our prop bets we got going on Pete?
00:22:09
Speaker
All right, so we're both taking the Chiefs minus one and a half. So the next one to go to, I'm going to kind of bounce around a little bit and try and go in semi order here. So the over under is 48 and a half. The over under last time they played was 49 and a half and the over hit. I'm talking about the last Super Bowl they play. So now it's lower at 48 and a half and I'm going to take the over. I think both offense. I think both defenses are really good, but both the offenses are really humming and.
00:22:39
Speaker
And I'm, you know, ah i'd I'd rather see an overball game anyway. So I'm going to take the over. um I'm going to do it too. And I'll tell you why. ah Interesting statistic came up today.
00:22:53
Speaker
Andy Reid is 33 and seven after bye weeks throughout his coaching career. 33 and seven when he's given the extra week, there is no way as much as I love the Chiefs that they hold that offense down. So I believe he's preparing for a shootout. So I'm with you. I take the over. All right. Good. lot Good logic there. Okay. So let's go with Superbowl MVP.
00:23:24
Speaker
um Okay, so my favorite statistic of the season of the last two weeks goes to, I believe it was Trey Wingo. Trey Wingo said in the playoffs, the last since or whatever, there's been 125 drives where in the fourth quarter, a team is either trying to keep the lead or trying to win.
00:23:54
Speaker
Okay. Keep the leader trying to close out a win. All right. In a one score game, Tom Brady, five of 11 in those situations. Drew Brees is number two. He's three of six in those situations. Pat Mahomes, seven of so seven in those situations. Clutch Mahomes, clutch guys when MVP is given to Pat.
00:24:26
Speaker
Okay. I'm trying to look at the last, I know I took a deep, I took Chris Jones last time. and you this is nick bolton scored i know but they But they still gave it to my homes though. My home still won the MVP. So it's hard to not pick my homes here. Now I really want to hedge my bets and I want to pick an Eagle.
00:24:46
Speaker
That way, if the Eagles do win and I lose the the Chiefs bet, I can maybe win the MVP vet bet. um I would pick Saquon there. if If the Eagles win, I think Saquon is going to win the MVP. I think if they win, it's because he has a great game and they they control the ball that way. But I will take my homes as well. So we're we're being really boring right now, taking the same people. You know what? Screw it. I'm taking Chris Jones again. Chris Jones is going to have Chris Jones again.
00:25:13
Speaker
He's going to have two, he's going to have two sacks and he's going to cause a fumble at some point, man. You could have really gone out there and gone to Carl office. You know, he had three sacks game before last to CJ Strowman. Chris Jones is going to wear out that center that replaced Kelsey. The tackles are good, man. You're right. You're right. Lake Johnson. Who's the other tackle?
00:25:39
Speaker
Is Lane still there? ah Lane Johnson has won. Shout out Groveton, Texas. He's a cool band man. didn't he come from him No, he's a Oklahoma guy. He went to oh you're right. Okay. Yep. But he was a, he went to Groveton, a little bitty town in East Texas. He played quarterback there. Now he's one of the best, right tackles maybe in the last 30 years. So here's the deal with Groveton. Pete and I, Pete and I, our first year played against Groveton.
00:26:09
Speaker
in our pre-conference. Second year. Second year, I think. I think so. We went down there second year. Yeah. All right. So I'll take Chris Jones. You got Pat Mahomes. All right. Let me, let me scroll here. All right. So now we're going to get into the wonky ones a little bit. Okay. Let's go with, does any individual go for two or more touchdowns?
00:26:38
Speaker
I'm going to say no. However,
00:26:43
Speaker
man. Okay. So here are my two. If somebody does, I honestly think it's sake one or Xavier worthy. Um, I think those are the two that had the best chance. Um, if sake one goes for multiples, then the, then the Eagles are probably winning. Um,
00:27:05
Speaker
count p i'm I'm going with Barkley. I mean, they're going to score touchdowns. Chuck, they're going to get in the twenties. And so, so I'm, I'm definitely taking Barkley to score two plus touchdowns. I just am. i You know, I'm going to say, you know, who's not a bad pick here. You know, who's not a bad pick.
00:27:34
Speaker
Let's hear it. Kareem Hunt's not a bad pick. He's not. He's not. um Man, I still think, I think they're using worthy and creative ways. I think they figured out how to get him open. He scores on a run and he scores on a pass. I'm going to go Xavier. I'm being very, I'm being very homers tonight.
00:28:01
Speaker
Well, that's okay. that if you If you place to bet on that, yeah you're probably gonna get pretty dang good odds on that. Barkley's probably only about plus 200 to score twice. like it's I mean, it's plus money, but it's not crazy. I bet worthy is more like plus six or 700. So that'd be a good bet if you're going to Vegas right there. All right, moving on to the next one. Heads or tails?
00:28:27
Speaker
Pete, I'm going heads maybe, because I know you say it. Go ahead and say it. Hey, tails never fails. We're going tails. So we'll be opposite. Only one of us is winning that one, brother. Yeah, that might be the difference maker. Okay. National Anthem. The line is set at 120.5 seconds. So 120 and a half seconds.
00:28:56
Speaker
I don't even know who's singing it this year. Who's singing this year? Golly, I should hang on.
00:29:06
Speaker
The sound of our Google searches right now. I believe it's a, it's a local singer. If I remember correctly, right John, John, John Batiste. I don't know if I'm pronouncing that right or not.
00:29:30
Speaker
So at there's a picture of the guy and recent Grammy winner, John Batiste is set to open the super bowl by singing the national anthem. So he's a Grammy winner. Yup. He led the late show with Stephen Colbert band from 2015 to 2022. He attended Juilliard New York city. So he is going to perform.
00:29:56
Speaker
and He, i'm I'm assuming he plays, in I'm assuming he plays instruments. So it might be an instrumental national anthem. over a inspect favor If he comes out there with a brass instrument, it's going over, over is a big favorite. It's minus one 42.
00:30:14
Speaker
ah fred I was going to say this guy and, and you know, our younger viewers or listeners may be like, you don't know who that is. Are you kidding me? But I don't know who that is. So I expect the guy to go out and try to make a name for himself. So I definitely take the over. I am too. Okay. What color Gatorade is getting dumped on the coach. So here are the favorites. Orange is plus two 50.
00:30:42
Speaker
Blue is plus 350. Yellow slash green is plus 400. Red is plus 500. Purple is plus 700. And clear slash water is plus 900. So those are your options. Orange, blue, yellow, green. What's the purple last year or last time they played? I think it was purple when they played last time, but that's like the only time it's ever been purple. So that was a really random happenstance.
00:31:09
Speaker
Yeah, I don't, golly man. Cause he showed up for the, he showed up kind of like dry, like there wasn't a big thing for the Gatorade bath that year. and We had to go search to find it.
00:31:26
Speaker
um
00:31:29
Speaker
Let's go red. Red. Okay. I'm going to go yellow green because but yeah I think there's, I think there's an outside chance the chiefs might have it and that's the Eagles colors. So I think, I think I'm covering both sides with the yellow green. That's a smart bet right there, Pete, a smart bet. Okay. After the kickoff, cause I'm not sure how else to do this, but I kept seeing this one on the websites.
00:32:03
Speaker
Who is the first, what is the first brand of commercial that pops up after the game has started? Like ah I'm legit talking kickoff happens, probably a drive, whatever, or timeout. What is the first brand that comes on TV? Okay. So I'm going to say the opening kickoff is a touch back or a very short, then boom, they go to commercial, right? That's what you're saying. but Okay. So you're taking touch back because that's one down here. You're taking touch back.
00:32:31
Speaker
Well, I'm saying eat regardless, whether it's a touch back or a short, I'm saying, yeah, the kickoff returned or not. Boom. We're going to commercial, right? Yes. Yes. The first commercial after the kickoff. Bud light. Bud light. I'm going Pepsi.
00:32:49
Speaker
Pepsi. That's not a bad. What are the odds? Do they have any odds listed out there for this? They did have odds. I didn't write them down because they were all plus money because they have no, I'm guessing they have no idea, but Pepsi and Bud Light were in the top five or six that I saw. Yeah. Since like Bud Light always gets an early pop to me, but so does Pepsi. It's all about who is the first celebrity cameo. And I know we have a bunch of, we've seen a bunch of teasers. McConaughey is obviously in a bunch of them. We know Peyton Manning is going to be in a bunch of them. Uh, I saw Pat McPhee is going to be in an NFL commercial. So who knows if they do that one earlier or not, who is going to be the first celebrity cameo? Okay. So are we talking at commercial cameo or first? celebrity
00:33:41
Speaker
in discussion Prerecorded commercial. in Yeah, this one's way off the wall, but I was trying to stump you on some. Golly, Pete, you got me here, man. um
00:33:55
Speaker
Oh no, you know who I'm going to go with? Who? I'm going with Kendrick Lamar. I'm saying they try to hit Kendrick early since he's the halftime guy. Okay. So you're kind of, you're kind of hedging your bet there because Bud Light has shown a lot of stuff with Post Malone and Shane Gillis and Peyton Manning.
00:34:17
Speaker
So I would imagine one of their commercials will have one of those three guys in it. And I'm going to take one of them. I'm, I'm taking Peyton Manning, my guy. He's sponsoring like, he's sponsoring like four different companies. So, I mean, he's on the state farm. He's on Bud Light. He's on all kinds of crap or nationwide, sorry, not state farm. So I think he covers it.
00:34:43
Speaker
Yeah, he covers a lot. So here's my question. If the first commercial is a promo for the halftime show, who wins that? I'm not going to count that as a commercial, but I might count that as a cameo, I guess is the first. i was just wondering we were paintinging So that's, I mean, so that that is a pretty good bet there by Kendrick. Now, obviously I'm not a sports book that might not count, but I'll count it for us.
00:35:11
Speaker
There you go. Okay. That gives me a little more hope. Okay. Opening kickoff. Is it a touch back or not? I think it's a touch back.
00:35:22
Speaker
Okay, last time I said no, you said yes, and it was a touch back. I'm gonna say it is as well. So we're both in agreement there. All right, let's go to, this is one of my favorite ones from last time. Well, either kicker hit the upright or crossbar on a missed field goal or extra point attempt. So if it doinks and goes in, it does not count. It has to doink and miss.
00:35:51
Speaker
Okay, so that was a thing last time, right? That was, that was a deal last time. Um, so we're saying doink and miss. It has to doink and miss.
00:36:07
Speaker
Jake Elliott's going to do it. He's going to doink one. I think he is. Little sneak, little sneak peek. Last time they played, I said, yes, you said no, there was a doink. There was a doink. There was a doink.
00:36:21
Speaker
Yep. so i remember the So I don't know who's going to do it, but I'm betting on a dork again. And that's like, that's plus four 50 for a dork miss. So that if you were laying some money down on that, that's not a bad one to lay it down on right there. and There's been several, man, there's been several, this, uh, this playoffs.
00:36:44
Speaker
Okay, down to the last four here. Two of them have to do with halftime, and two of them have to do with post-game celebration type stuff. Okay. Okay, that's here let's Let's do the halftime. Over or under 10 and a half songs?
00:37:03
Speaker
Okay, Kendrick doesn't have Rihanna's catalog. That's true. The line is higher. Rihanna's was nine and a half in the over hit. This one's 10 and a half. So they have Rihanna's was, I thought Rihanna's was higher. I have it as nine and a half. I got the page pulled up. Okay. Well then if I don't think he doesn't have Rihanna's catalog, I'm going to take the under again. I know I took the under with Rihanna. I've definitely taken the under with Kindred.
00:37:38
Speaker
I'm taking the over based solely on the style of music. He sings the rap army stuff. I think he's going to have guests and those singers. oh yes We know since it's going to be there. So, and so those, I think those, uh, halftime performers tend to do like,
00:37:58
Speaker
of course of this song, chord like a verse of this song, verse of this song. So it hit it counts, even though it's just a verse. And so they can knock out three or four songs in like a minute and 45 seconds. So I'm taking it over just for that alone. Okay, smart bet, smart bet. Okay, the the last halftime profile one, and he he is the betting favorite, but he is still it's still plus money, so it's not necessarily a favorite to happen.
00:38:27
Speaker
does Lil Wayne make an appearance at halftime in his hometown of New Orleans? Last time it was a Taylor Swift question. This time it's a Lil Wayne question. Okay, I'm gonna apply the Taylor Swift logic that we applied last time. Even though our producer told us we were wrong, we ended up being right. And I'm gonna say Lil Wayne waits for his own his own halftime sale.
00:39:00
Speaker
I tend to agree with you. I'm going to say yes, just because I'm hoping for it because I think he deserved to have it himself being at his hometown. And, uh, so I'm hoping for, yes, I'm hoping he shows up for new Orleans. Okay. So here's my question. Is there a collab that those two have done that I'm not thinking of? I have no idea. I mean, I'm not, I'm not big in the hip hop scene, you know, uh,
00:39:28
Speaker
If you asked me at Charles Wesley Godwin was going to show up with the Texas or with the Terpite Troubadours, I'd have a little bit more ah a of a reason to answer, but I can't think of any collabs and I actually like both these guys. So I'm going to say no. That's probably the smart bet. I'm just holding out hope there. Okay. Last two, who does the MVP think first? Okay. And I'll tell you in the order of favorites,
00:39:58
Speaker
Does he think his teammates first, God first, family first, coaches, or the fans?
00:40:08
Speaker
In his acceptance speech of the MVP, who does he think first? Okay, so gotta go with ah who we're going with for MVPs. I pick and achieve Southern Mahomes last drive of the game situation. So,
00:40:30
Speaker
I'm going to take Andy Reed. He tends to give Big Red a lot of credit. And I think that that's where it goes. If he gets it, he goes to Big Red first. Okay. So coaches is plus 500. I'm going to lean. I'm going to take a little bit less of a.
00:40:51
Speaker
of a risk. I'm going with God. I think they think God first. I think the safe play is one of the quarterbacks is going to win MVP. And both of them have been known to immediately, you know, thank God and and praise you you as they get awarded with something. and And that's, I find that awesome. And I'm, you know, a little bit of me is just hoping that's, that's what they do. And part of me just knows that that is something that they've done in the past. So if one of them to win it, I think that's what it'll be. So that's what I'm going with.
00:41:20
Speaker
Solid bet. I mean, that's, yeah, solid bet. Okay. And the last one, and this is going to be our producer's favorite question. If the chiefs win, does Travis Kelsey propose on the field? Does Travis propose on the field? Wow. Hold on just a second.
00:41:50
Speaker
think Give me just a second, Pete, just a second. Hello. Hey, Pete, I'm going to bring in a special guest, uh, answer for that. So I'm going to give her my headphones and we'll let our foreign producer Lane answer that question for me. Go ahead. All right. That's perfect. Okay. So last question. If the chiefs win, does Travis Kelsey propose on the field in the celebration?
00:42:22
Speaker
Okay, first of all, we discussed this last season. At the last Super Bowl, we had the same question. My, or not, one before, whatever. ya modelto had but not the last time we did one together are yeah Our first Super Bowl episode, this topic was discussed and my answer is the same. No, because Taylor Swift would never want to take the attention away from the Chiefs win.
00:42:45
Speaker
because that obviously would be monumental. I say no, not that I don't want it to happen, but it's not going to. Okay, we're going with no. I'm going with no as well. I just wanted to ask the question. Listen, Taylor Swift Expert says no. Hey, Taylor Swift Expert said she was coming to perform at the halftime two years ago and she didn't. Okay, I think that's gonna happen. I still think that's gonna happen for a different reason because she has a song with Kendrick Lamar.
00:43:15
Speaker
oh he He was featured on her song, Bad Blood, on the 1989 album. And when Kendrick was sweeping the Grammys this weekend, she was very excited about it. And they were definitely seen chatting. So I'm not saying they're not friends in real life, but it is suspicious that they're suddenly seen in public together the week before the Super Bowl.
00:43:44
Speaker
That's all I gotta say. Interesting. Interesting. We're adding that one on there. I already had does Lil Wayne or Lil Wayne perform in New Orleans. So I'm going to add the Taylor Swift one as well. So I think it's worth putting money on. Do we have that option? Yeah, he added it. Yes. All right. I'm going with the Taylor Swift professional on that one.
00:44:10
Speaker
So I got to go, I got to go the opposite. I'm going to actually use her logic though. I think she's going to wait until Travis isn't playing anymore. And then she's going to perform. She's going to have her own show not upstage. Hmm. That's fair. yep I don't know though. Eris tour is over. So it's like, is this the big farewell to the Eris tour? It's very possible. We'll see. It's going to be a fun day. Could be. i mean I'm very eager.
00:44:40
Speaker
Thank you, Lane.

Future Podcast Plans and Super Bowl Excitement

00:44:42
Speaker
There you go. Our producer back from England to answer the difficult questions of pop culture when her old man and, uh, Texas country coach can't, can't put our breath or minds around it.
00:45:04
Speaker
So that's it. That's what I got. And we'll see how we do. it we're We're together on some of them, but there's there's plenty of separation there. So I think ah think the results are going to be pretty interesting. We'll we'll have to recap them when we have our next episode, which might include some other people. We might have some exciting things coming up for the listeners. Yeah, I hope so. we We'll wait on, we've talked about a couple of topics and talk to some coaches that ah mean a lot to us and have helped us a lot over the years. And I don't want to, I don't want to say too much about that because there's still a couple of things up in the air, but I'm looking forward to it. Pete, I'll tell you one that ah I'm excited about. I haven't even got to talk to you about yet, but, um,
00:45:55
Speaker
I think here pretty soon we're going to have a football coach from Brazil literally ah join us and talk about the the way the games played in in Brazil. He's actually been coaching in Brazil at a very high level for years for as long as I've known him and has also come to the United States to spend time with Baylor, spends the time with us and and watching in what we do in high school. And some some of what Matt Rule, back when Matt Rule comes Baylor, he was he got to spend a season with them. So anyway, I think my buddy Alex may be joining us before long. So-
00:46:44
Speaker
We got some fun topics coming last time. Pete won this contest. Uh, I'll be honest. I feel like I kind of reached out a little bit. I did, I did some regions. So I think I anticipate either a big win or a big loss. What we need to do is assume it's it's a lot of work, but we should assume a $5 bet for each one of those that we picked.
00:47:13
Speaker
And then do the math to see who'd come out ahead and who would lose their button. Okay. I'll, I'll go back and do that. I'll do it with $10 cause the math's a little easier. Sure. But I'll i'll do $10 bets on everything. And, uh, and we'll figure it out. Well, last time I won seven to five, you won five, I won seven, but the difference makers was Taylor Swift didn't perform and I won the coin toss. So I mean, it's literally, it's made important by parents we have
00:47:44
Speaker
So ah Pete, I've enjoyed it. We're going to cut us off a little bit short today. Um, so we can try to get this posted, uh, before the Superbowl. We'll be in Malaysia this weekend. So I'm looking forward to seeing you. Um, anyway, uh, looking forward to seeing some of our guys, some of our fellow coaches. It's always a good time. So Superbowl coming folks. Watch it. It's going to be a good time.
00:48:13
Speaker
Let's go cheese. There you go, let's go cheese. Talk to you later, my brother. All right, see you later, bud.
