Speaker
All right. Hey Pete, what's up? Well, that man, it's good to hear from you. It's been a, it's been a long time for the podcast. That's for sure. It's been, uh, almost two years since we released the last episode. I looked today. the Right at, yeah, because we were, uh, at Dallas at Glazer when we kept that one loose and weren't we? That was the, that was the first episode. And then we released one more after that.
00:00:37
Speaker
i think yeah I think our production think our production person taking off to another country has something to do with that. Yeah, that probably had a little or a lot to do with it for sure.
00:00:50
Speaker
So just so we can let everybody know what's up since it's been two years, Pete and I are not living in the same state and coaching together anymore. um So that's, that's a change. I'm actually back near my hometown in Arkansas in our family house that we are very happy to be in. And Pete,
00:01:14
Speaker
Go ahead and tell them where you are, Pete. Tell them what you're doing. I'm obviously, for those of you who know, I'm back in Rockdale in my hometown. ah Me and my wife have bought a house here outside of town. And and I am coaching here at the high school and teaching at the junior high. And my wife and kids are all at the elementary. She's teaching down there, and and they're going to school here. So it's been a good time so far. We're in year two, and and looking forward to continuing on and helping these kids out here.
00:01:43
Speaker
Yeah. I, uh, I should go ahead and clarify. I am actually, I'm coaching again as well. During the two years I took a year away from coaching. It was an assistant principal at Rockdale where Pete is from and where he's currently OC. And, uh, I'll just be honest, to it wasn't for me. And my wife got a great opportunity. We were kind of wanting to move back home anyway. So she got a,
00:02:11
Speaker
Really good opportunity, good job that she deserved. And and I came back and coached ah this last year and played on continuing. But this last year, I was at Riverview High School in Searcy, Arkansas. um And I dont i mean, a couple of years ago, Pete had a pretty good year. of The year I was away, I was admin on duty critiquing every coaching decision they made.
00:02:40
Speaker
um But last year it was not what either one of us hoped for, bro. Neither no neither one of us got what we wanted last year. My streak ended. It's the first time oh yeah I did not make the playoffs. Didn't make it. Yeah, I forgot about the streak. I didn't even think about it. Yeah, the streak went away.
00:03:06
Speaker
so We got hit by the injury bug and and and really, I mean, it's just the way it goes sometimes. It's learning. It's good. And you're at a small district. I mean, it's not a huge district just like just like me here in Rockdale. You lose a few guys, then you just don't have the depth to survive that most of the time unless you just have an unreal roster full of talent you know for a small school. yeah And here, we we we knew it was going to be a down year. we were and We were hoping to make the playoffs. We had hads some high hopes, started 3-1 in pre-district play. And the first district game rolls around, and we we lost a heartbreaker. they They scored right at the end of the ballgame to beat us. After we had the ball, a tie game had the ball at about the plus 30 or so with about a minute 20 to go, and ah had a tip ball turnover. so
00:04:04
Speaker
um And the bill we just we just couldn't stop the snowball rolling down the hill kind of after that. It got to where it just seemed like one bad thing would happen after another. and ended up going over in district. That's definitely not what anybody here wants. Not what the coaches, players, fans, admin, nobody wants that. But yeah know it happens sometimes. We're competitive in most games. um Probably, ah not probably. I know we scored more points offensively and had a better year offensively than we did the year before, especially passing the ball. Our quarterback, a sophomore, he's not a runner. We protected him this year. Didn't really have an outstanding backup option.
00:04:45
Speaker
you know The backup really was probably our JV guy, to be honest with you, but we had a guy that can make it through a game you know if we had something happen. So we protected him and didn't run run him a ton, if at all. um So that took away a lot in the run game for us. You know how I love the run to run the quarterback.
00:05:01
Speaker
right so But he had a great year passing the ball. I want to say top six or seven for yards in a season as a passer.
00:05:13
Speaker
and Rockdale history and didn't even play a playoff game. I think i think everybody above them pretty much played playoff games and had a receiver in the top three for receiving yards in the season, had a bunch of touchdowns and catches. He set the single season catch record and yards record if I'm not mistaken. Is he going to be a junior? He was just a sophomore, right? Dre will be a senior. yeah Now the the quarterback will be a junior next year. So sorry.
00:05:43
Speaker
You know, the receiver that played really well this year and had the records and all that stuff was a junior going to be a senior. We had some really good receivers around them too that really helped him stay open because there were some games where he would get a ton of targets in yards and the next week they would double them. And we would still, you know, our offense really wouldn't miss a beat. We had some other guys that would step up when there was openings and Eric Shepherd and Rashade and our tight end Reagan Jackson and stuff really made some plays for us.
00:06:13
Speaker
ah But anyway Next year, you know, we lost some seniors this year next year looking About the same scenario gonna have a hopefully a lot of offense back and hopefully be able to score some points and you know me as an office No,
00:06:30
Speaker
no this so we're going into our second year this was the first year of a realignment, okay, so we're going into the second year and I don't know if we need to be name dropping schools, but I think there's a school in our district that will be going up to 4A next year. So help us that'll that'll help us out a little bit. And that was the game that we were close to winning there, that first district ball game anyway, down to the last minute or so. um But regardless, it's always good to get those bigger schools out of your district. You know how that is. Yeah. yeah But we're hopeful the program's going the right way, in my opinion.
00:07:06
Speaker
our Our program win total from year one to year two, basically tripled from seventh grade up to the varsity. So our varsity win total stayed the same, actually. we We had a much easier schedule, you know, to be quite honest. And we sure and we didn't make the playoffs like we did the year previous.
00:07:28
Speaker
But our varsity wins stayed the same, and we just gained a whole bunch of wins. And the our JV only lost three games, I believe. Seventh grade lost their first two in the gettings by like a touchdown, and then lost to Franklin. They won every other game, won you know one every district game, besides the Franklin game.
00:07:48
Speaker
And, you know, that that eighth grade group played, a they didn't get any wins. They didn't get any wins in seventh graders either, but they played so much better this year, had a lot of close games and they were just ravaged by enemies. So, yeah, we'll see. Hopefully we're going the right direction. It seems that way. I'll quit Ramblin now. ah No, good, Vandiff. You're the OC. You're supposed to be like looking at that stuff.
00:08:11
Speaker
Yeah, for us, we ended up winning one game and it was, it was our reward game, kind of our last game of the year against bald knob. So, uh, and we were in several other games, just, you know, uh, new offense starting from nothing. Um, you know, we kind of had to build and, you know,
00:08:38
Speaker
that Got some key injuries early. Our offensive philosophy was really built around running the quarterback and running some option with our running back.
00:08:50
Speaker
Right. And second game, first option we run, uh, man, quarterbacks knee goes down, you know, he gets out it she's back and it's moved now. Everything, what little we knew by week two, well, now we have to start over with a whole other offense because we didn't have what we needed. Small school stuff, you know, right? um Right.
00:09:14
Speaker
But I will say that ah all in all, I think, you know, that our kids make some good strikes. They played, they played hard. We had some talented kids. Our running back did still make all state to tell you how talented that Joker was. We were one in eight and he made all state.
00:09:34
Speaker
oh yeah got forget ball friendss Pretty good ball player. Um, Anyway, so yeah, to that's kind of the quick and dirty for everybody about where we are. um Anyway, ah let's, let's ah you know, we talked about what to do here and wanted to make sure if I got an update first. Let's go ahead and do some analyzing, man. I know I like to do that. You like to do that. Let's have some fun with it.
00:10:08
Speaker
Let's, real quick, we won't spend a ton of time, but let's talk about what we think of year one of the 12 teen college playoff. Pete, give me your first have thoughts on year one. Well, there's no going back.
00:10:26
Speaker
I'm going to say that to start with. They're not going to get less teams in the playoff, whether that's money, whether that's opportunity. The schools don't want it to go back either. The schools want the opportunity to get in it, period. OK. I like it. I like it. I think I think the correct number is probably eight with no auto bids. But I will take 12. I will take 12 since they're doing the auto bids. I will take 12.
00:10:55
Speaker
The really don't and the games have been fine. There really hasn't. I mean, Ohio State. I know got really is not fine ground. Well, it's not fine. It's good enough. It's good football. game It's the same. It's the same bowl games you would have watched regardless where they're playoff or not though. In my opinion, but I hear you. OK, so I but I think what needs to be addressed is in the in round one.
00:11:24
Speaker
that I think would make it better is they need to seed it correctly. I'll say that. it doesn' the auto The auto bids don't need the buys. If it was seeded correctly, if Texas had a buy, if Ohio State or whoever that fourth team had a buy, I think you would have had a lot better match ups in that first round than you had this year in the first round.
00:11:52
Speaker
well lets all it And it also, but I don't know if screwed is the right word, but Oregon got the short end of it, in my opinion. Whoever would have won out of Ohio State and Tennessee would have given them a heck of a game as the one seed. There was much better avenues for them to get that first game, in my opinion.
00:12:13
Speaker
And I think a lot of that has to do with the seeding. It would have been much better for them to get a game to get the winner of let's say Boise State and Indiana or Boise State and ah Arizona State than to get Ohio State right off the bat as the one seed. I just think they kind of got the way it's seeded right now is wrong in my opinion. It's not necessarily wrong. It's not the best way.
00:12:41
Speaker
Okay, look, let's just, what do we got planned? Is it five, six, seven and eight are still in it? Yeah. None of the, none of the first round buyers are in it. So, so that tells me right there. I mean, if you got a five seed, ah you know what I mean? That sticks in or a seven C a kind of like we see in a tournament in the basketball tournament. That's one thing.
00:13:07
Speaker
You, you have the mid seeds left. We've seeded this thing way wrong. The seeding was wrong. You know what I mean? It just it doesn't take a genius to look and go well with all four remaining teams, we're considered middle seeds. We're going to have something's going to be done there. um I'm pulling up the bracket right now, but You're telling me Boise State deserved the bye over Texas or deserved the bye over Ohio State or Penn State? I mean, um I just don't think so. and I agree. I agree. yeah Arizona State, and I know they gave Texas a heck of a game, but they didn't deserve a bye over those teams. the Yeah, OK.
00:14:00
Speaker
So just my opinion, I don't think i don't think they should have had to buy. I think it should have been Georgia, Oregon, Texas, and then probably just looking at it here, either a Notre Dame or an Ohio State probably should have got that fourth seat. But that's neither here nor there. That's part of my biases one way or the other.
00:14:24
Speaker
but I just, like I said, I don't know if 12 is the number. I don't think the best 12 made it. I think the, I think the first round scores tell us that these weren't the best 12 teams.
00:14:38
Speaker
In college, I think there's some of that too. Now some of these schools, you know what I mean? Now some of these teams did it to themselves. Ole Miss true that did it to themselves. Ole Miss should have been. Ole Miss is probably a top 12 team. They're probably a top six or 17. They could probably beat anybody, but you can't go out there and lay a egg against Kentucky at home.
00:15:00
Speaker
That's true. I say they were Alabama. I made the same thing. That's right. taking and better yeah um ah losing me oh home eighty They lost the Navy. Chuck, I Oklahoma's bad. I saw that as an Aggie fan who had to watch us lose to USC in the last minute.
00:15:28
Speaker
the hogs one though eat the old red raers who yeah you know I'm tell you what, this is what I can sum up what it means to be a Razorbacks fan. And this one thing does when James catches the longest pass and raise your back history, right? His first pass. Didn't you know what that Joker does as soon as the game is over into the portal, the transfer portal.
00:15:57
Speaker
Yeah, it's different. It's different. So you go, well man, look, we did have players. We had depth. We just didn't know. We didn't know what we had back there. Gone. Gone. No, the teams. it's It's hard for those teams to acquire that depth now to really withstand. That's why you're going to see a lot more parity in college football than it used to be. I will say that. It is going to be a lot more parity.
00:16:25
Speaker
I think college football doesn't want that. you That's what it's setting in. That's what it's turning into. Sure. But the NFL wants parody. The NFL sets everything up so that everybody's eight and eight, if they could, you know what I mean? Or nine, eight, nine, nine, and eight. right I mean, that is what their goal is. College football up until now has been set up so that six people kill everybody else.
00:16:58
Speaker
but Well, that's where the term blue bloods comes from. That's what they want. They want those programs to be elite and the rest of them to be fodder. It's not that way anymore. With the money going into the playoff, I think even more so they want parity. They want those playoff games to be who's going to, they want it to have that March Madness feel of any of those guys can win. And so I i think you're going to, but I think you're going to see more and more parity. I really do.
00:17:26
Speaker
with these teams able to do some things. Heck, my Texas State Bobcats went out there and won their second bowl game. They did, they did. Outstanding time, man. I was just saying, if you were at that game, do you have a good time with it? Yeah, it was a good game. It was fun. setting the mean It's kind of the pseudo student section. It's the general admission down there in the end zone.
00:17:48
Speaker
And so if you get there early enough, you can get right down there. I mean, I i got there and I could have set any seat I wanted to in about six sections. I got about six rows up right in the center of the end zone. Had a perfect view right over the goal post. I if you remember this or not, but Pete's going to tell you here after a little while, he's not a Jalen Hurts fan, but he can probably tell you, I'm not a,
00:18:15
Speaker
I'm not a jail and hurts hater, but my girls went to Baylor and um you know, you could get burned seats. Same thing right there in the end zone, walk right down and Baylor was whipping.
00:18:30
Speaker
Oklahoma whipping them at home and I had a front row end zone seat to it and the comeback oh and Jalen hurts. I could have stood on him several times that he celebrated at the end zone with some guys that were from Oklahoma to my left. So the the experience was fun. It was not the same experience you had. Right. Not the same outcome for sure.
00:18:59
Speaker
But okay, so we got four teams left. this I wanna do two things. We're we're not gonna pick both games, but let's be fair, okay? I wanna know who you would like to see win and who you think ends up the national champion.
00:19:18
Speaker
That's a tough question. um'm I'm not necessarily. fair I think I've got an idea. I'm not i'm not a fan. of of most of the four teams left. ah I like Penn State the most. I've always kind of had a, very i guess I guess from afar I've liked I don't know their mystique and their whole thing and their white outs they had. And I know it's Joe Paterno was a really cool old guy that used to call, I know all that stuff. ah But James Franklin seems like a good dude. yeah I've got nothing against him, no qualms against him. So I mean, out of the four, I think I would like to see Penn State win it the most. Who do I think's gonna win it?
00:20:08
Speaker
Whoever, it depends on the matchup and the championship game. But I think i think Ohio State's gonna win it. if they could stay If they can look as good as they've looked the last two games, I just think they've gotten hot at the right time. They figured something out. That receiver's unbelievable. And the quarterback has had a lot of experience.
00:20:33
Speaker
And they're hot. I mean, there's something to say about momentum. And I think they've got a lot of it. I i think Tennessee was really good. I think Tennessee was really good. They played really crappy against them. And they obviously, they lost their quarterback early. And obviously, Oregon was really good. The only thing that scares me with Ohio State is how bad they looked against Michigan. But I'm picking Ohio State. To win it, I want to see Penn State win it.
00:21:02
Speaker
Okay, so we're in agreement, really kind of on both. I'm rooting for Penn State. I'm a James Franklin fan. All the way back to we started at Vanderbilt, when Arkansas hired Bilema, there was a chance floating around that we would get a James Franklin shot. And I was, I mean, begging for it.
00:21:25
Speaker
So, and like you, I mean, they've got a cool history. They, you know, my favorite big 10 team easily, by far, and I am close. If I had to pick a big 10 team, it'd be Penn State. Oh yeah. So I'm not a Ohio State guy. I don't like Ohio State because all the way back to a really good coach with Jim Trussell didn't like him. Didn't like them back then. Don't like him now.
00:21:55
Speaker
Don't like Texas, which you know, ah don't like UT. The and us is supposed to root for Texas. You know that.
00:22:06
Speaker
succeed i any other scc school check and now And look, I'm gonna be cordial around my friends, my wife's my wife's a Texas fan, my in-laws are Texas fans. i'm Yeah, I'm gonna be cordial and everything. I'm not gonna be a bad hole about anything, but I'm telling you, it's like watching Hitler win a football game when they win.
00:22:31
Speaker
but I'm telling you man. God, you just hate to see it. And I just i wish Ohio State would just do it before they made a championship game. I don't want to have to stress about it. I'll tell you, one of my favorite, favorite, because you know, Richard McPans are obnoxious. Aggie aggy fans are obnoxious Longhorn fans are obnoxious. Our fans have their, oh yeah. Yeah, but you know they're obnoxious. My favorite comeback.
00:23:10
Speaker
to any UT person, it was that their last meaningful game was quarterback by a guy that makes stakes in downtown Austin now. And now that's gone. I don't have my, that insult is now completely gone.
00:23:27
Speaker
yeah um and So, man, have you ever seen, you know, who, you know, who the tech who Texas reminds me of? The bangles.
00:23:40
Speaker
No, I won't even give them that much offensive credit, but there are times that you're like, all that talent shows up and you're like, whoa, who would have a chance? And then they get up 17 against Arizona state and just decide to play like Boise. You know what I mean? And you're like, but yeah, yeah.
00:24:00
Speaker
What the heck? Yeah, it's like it's like they play with their food a little bit. And that's going to get them, you know in my opinion, that's going to catch them against a really good team. you know but Which they've got a hot team, so. They do. and and i think And I think they're very good. I think the roster is constructed to win um and and win big games because they have a really good offensive front to talk about them for a second and not just hate on them the whole time.
00:24:30
Speaker
They have a really good offensive front really good defensive front. They're good in the back end on defense. Obviously, of yearss to get it done the quarterback is a very good game manager. That's what he is. he's not goingnna That's what he is. That's what he is. It is. I'd be more scared of them with arch manning in the game than I would be with Quinn.
00:24:56
Speaker
I really want that game manager, the game manager token. Like when Jana and I started dating, she get mad. I said, she looked cute, right? She'd get real sad. I want to look cute. I want to look good. I'm like, I think that's what the quarterback thinks. so You say game, right? It's not a bad thing. You sound like me talking to my wife 30 years ago. It's not a bad thing to be cute.
00:25:22
Speaker
Look, man, you got all these reports about teams offering NIO money to come play for them. There's something to be said about a really good game manager. If you have really good talent, or that's all Will Howard is at Ohio State. He's nothing more than that. At Ohio State, he's a game manager. If you have elite talent all around you,
00:25:43
Speaker
That's all you got to be. Just don't turn the ball over and make the plays that are there and make the right plays on third down and you'll win you'll win the national championship. That's what they'll do. now Hold on, you're on to something though. You're on to something here. Think about the teams in the playoffs. Who's the best quarterback in the playoffs? that's That's a great question. I don't know. I'd have to really study the film.
00:26:09
Speaker
I had to they had to too because none of them are the standout guys. I'll tell you the what what the one that scares me the most if I was the defensive coordinator is Riley Leonard at Notre Dame. Because he he's the one who really goes out of his way to make plays with his legs. And so he could change. I know the least about. Okay, ri Riley Leonard is a big strong kid was actually recruited more as a basketball player. If that tells you anything coming out of high school.
00:26:37
Speaker
And he was at Duke, obviously with with Mike Elko before he transferred to Notre Dame this year. And so I watched quite a few Duke games. I mean, they they went and beat Clemson and all this other stuff. And he was the reason why. he would just make play He would extend plays with his legs. He could throw the ball down the field. He's not the greatest quarterback in the pocket, I would say. They struggle at times with their just drop back pass game. But third and sevens, he can make plays on third down. That's what scares me. yeah He can make plays by himself on third down. More more than the, I don't know as much about Drew Allen at Penn State, but I, just from what I know, and he makes plays with his legs more than Quinn and Will Howard do at their respective schools.
00:27:25
Speaker
I just, anyway, I was just thinking about that because, you know, last year it was all about the quarterbacks, right? Last year's, last year's playoffs, 14, you know what I mean? It was all about the quarterbacks. panex and benanas Yes. Just as you were saying that, I thought, golly, man, all these guys are a little bit of game managers. Carson, but that's way mo of and he's not playing Stockton is, but you know,
00:27:53
Speaker
It's interesting. That's kind of what you need. You need a guy that can make plays with his legs and get first downs with his legs. You need guys that don't make the big mistake and guys that can make plays on third down. And if you have an elite offensive line with good backs and some couple elite receivers that can just go make plays, that's all you need. You don't need ah you don't need Johnny Manziel back there running around like a chicken with his head cut off. You can do it with a Will Howard. You can do it with a Quinn Ubers.
00:28:24
Speaker
you know You don't have to have Cam Newton back there. you know You could do it with a very good game managing quarterback that's played a lot of games. So that's another thing, yeah experience. Riley Leonard's play started multiple years, has a lot of games, yours, a lot of games. Will Howard, a lot of games at K-State. So that experience means something. Those experienced quarterbacks mean something.
00:28:49
Speaker
Okay. Yes. Well, I gotta, I guess I gotta to finish. I asked the question. I didn't finish answering it. Sorry, Pete. Uh, I'm rooting for Penn state. I don't know. Based on what I saw out of Ohio state, I thought Oregon was going to win it all. And based on what I saw Ohio state due to Oregon, it's hard to say they, anybody could get in the way of that. Cause I did like Oregon was the top three teams in the country. I did too. I did too.
00:29:21
Speaker
I thought whoever came out of that game would win it. Yeah. So I'm going to say that's probably who's going to win it. But I'm not thrilled about it. Not too happy about it. Hoping I would love to see Penn State come and match them. You know, the Penn State working game.
00:29:42
Speaker
ah Anyway, I'm not going to get it. We'll stay in the playoffs. We'll run out of time. We'll stay close. Um, all right. So let's transition though. Let's go from college playoffs to the NFL playoffs. All right. So what do you, what do you, uh, where do you want to start on those? Do we want to start on your side where your guys play on the NSC? Are you going to start on my side with big boys play on the, in the ASC?
00:30:16
Speaker
Well, I say let's, uh, you want to pick the games. You want to pick the wildcard games and then we can give our Super Bowl picks. Let's do it. Okay. We can do it that way. We can do it that way. can always in our Let's start on the NSC side. And then we'll give our C championship. table You can stop it. Go ahead.
00:30:44
Speaker
That's fine if we were or we could stop at the conference championship game and we can readdress when it gets there. um I like it. I like it. Let's go for it. Let's stretch it out. We'll leave our tens of listeners in like cliffhanger status or tens of listeners in about six different states. We're at least spread out.
00:31:06
Speaker
Exactly. there's It was do a square footage. Hey, I'm going to tell you, if we got this winter storm coming in, we get this thing pushed out. That's right, brother. Hey, we keep doing these when winter storms pop around. make sure the seconds are winter storms going up Oh my gosh. I remember you're right. You're absolutely right. Okay. So here we go. Let's start with the five four and I'll let you go for it. Minnesota and the Rams. All right. So Minnesota, I believe is going to Los Angeles. Is that correct?
00:31:42
Speaker
That is correct. The Rams are hosting. Minnesota is a 14 and three wildcard team. Yeah, how about that game Sunday night? How the Lions just.
00:31:54
Speaker
And it's all, you know what? Sam Donald's fault. I'll say it. He missed. How many times did he miss? A lot of questions in the red zone. Wide open or at least open enough for that. You've seen that. You've seen those kitchens made.
00:32:16
Speaker
Oh yeah. yeah he didn't coach he played like he played He played like the Sam Donald we've become accustomed to. I don't care what I like. Oh yeah.
00:32:33
Speaker
I want to pick the upset. I really do. So here's a little, here's a little tip for you. Only two teams that beat the Vikings this year and their three losses, the Lions and the Rams. The Rams beat the Vikings the week after the Lions beat the Vikings the first time the Lions beat the Vikings. um So how about that for some symmetry? Hey, hey, I don't think you're going to get that kind of analysis out of ESPN folks. So how about that?
00:33:03
Speaker
So listen to me now, Pete digging up a nugget right there. The spread opened at two and a half Minnesota favored. It has now gone to one and a half. So that tells me that the money is flowing to the Rams side. yeah Yeah, it is. And I'm going to speak i'm go to pick the underdog Rams right here, Matt Stafford at home. The the Rams defense is sneaky good.
00:33:29
Speaker
I don't know what they do, but I've turned into some games. They've looked like hot, but they look bad. And in some games, they look great. And so, gave me the Rams and an upset against the Vikings this week. it's just That's a Sunday game, I believe. Well, that's the Monday night game.
00:33:52
Speaker
Is it the Monday night? That's the Monday night one. Yes, sir. one The one I'm looking at doesn't have the game dates on it. I'll have to pull up a different bracket here. Yes, ah I can help you out with that. Okay. Oh, man. i You know, I want to join you with that one so bad, but the one like steadfast part of the Vikings, even in their losses has been their D line. Man, they put pressure. They had put pressure on everybody. And Matthew Stafford was just, let's just own it, man. He's up there. He does not move around yeah with pressure. Oh yeah. Nearly the way he could. Now, do I think you want to make a living? Do I think you want to make a living covering
00:34:47
Speaker
one on one, you know, against the Rams receivers. No, but gosh, man, I just, I think, I think they keep stabbard off kilter enough, or they keep him off kilter enough that he misses. I don't think the Rams are going to be able to run against him. I think that's going to be just a lost cause. See, that's what I think they can do that. Yeah, I think.
00:35:14
Speaker
i We'll see. and It's up in there. do lines good man they're good i know but did you see The Lions just carved them up when they finally just started running the football. lion the best i know i know But McVey has great run schemes. If anybody can drop some run schemes, it's him and Shanahan. So that's the only thing that's got me picking the Rams. I don't feel good about it.
00:35:41
Speaker
I don't feel good about it because I love the Vikings weapons. I really do. yeah je Jefferson, Addison, Hawkinson, they just keep coming at you with with pro bowl guys. Yeah, I think, I really think ah low scoring.
00:35:58
Speaker
I agree with that. I think, I think the Vikings end up doing enough to pull it out. I could see Stanford getting frustrated, um, by early in the second half. And we all know that his forte, once he's frustrated, it's not coming back out of that. Um, so I'm gonna, I'm gonna, I'm gonna go ahead and go against you and we'll take the, I'm gonna take the Vikings. All right. Commanders and the Buccaneers. Sunday night football. That's the Sunday night game, huh? Am I trying to pick this one first? Sure. Go ahead.
00:36:39
Speaker
Okay. Uh, I absolutely can't stand Baker Mayfield. I never could. And when he was in college or Mike Evans, um, because he was Aggie and I, I, as Peter's heard several times since I've known him, he is the person, Mike Evans got Johnny Manziel drafted. Now everybody knows that now, but I knew it back then. So I'm gonna say, um, but Yeah man, I go with the upper seat. I think Baker's playing. He's in. They built the system that he can run. I mean, and he's got weapons. Um, Bucky Irving has been great. Um, Jane Daniels has played well, but he plays like a rookie sometimes cause he's a rookie. He looks like he reminds me to see Jay Stroud last year. Um, there are times that you're like, wow, this is just great. And there are times like, Oh yeah, there it is. He's a rookie. Uh, Terry McLaurin is,
00:37:39
Speaker
the real deal, but, you know, if Jayden doesn't play well, he doesn't get his.
00:37:47
Speaker
They can run the ball, you know, the commanders can run it all. I still think half of that is the Jayden Daniels threat. So I still give him a lot of credit for that. Defensively, I think the commanders are better um than the Buccaneers, but I just, man, I think They figured out how to get everything they can get out of Baker. And so you know I think it's going to be the Bucks. this This is another tough one. I think these two might be the toughest picks for me out of all the games, but the first two we've talked about. ah I'm going, commanders, because the Buccaneers defense is so banged up. I mean, the Saints they almost beat them something.
00:38:34
Speaker
Their safety just got in a car wreck, can't play. Another safety's already out. They've got other injuries in the secondary. Spencer Rattler looked like a good NFL quarterback against them. So what's Jay Daniels going to look like against them? Take the over if you're betting the game. Take the over. There's going to be a lot of points in this game.
00:38:55
Speaker
oh But I'm going to take the commanders. I think their defense is going to get after Baker. ah and And to that same point, the the Washington defense didn't look amazing in between the 30s against the Cowboys Sunday, but boy, they look good in the red zone. Cowboys couldn't freaking score a touchdown on them. So I love Mike Evans, I think, and you know just to counter your deal, I think he's a great guy. I think he's a good dude by all accounts. He's never in trouble. He's always loved by his teammates and all that kind of stuff. and Congratulations to him on tying Jerry Ice a piece. 11 straight years and I know he gets extra gain now, but with injuries and other stuff, that's still a heck of an accomplishment. But I think as much as I don't like to say it, I'm not a big Commander's fan, obviously, in the Cowboys division, but I think ah think they win this one. There's something about it. No. he goes to
00:39:53
Speaker
No, it goes to Motor City, Dan Gamble. Let's see the coach of the year. But you think, I mean, don't get me wrong, and Dan's established that over the last few years. and He hasn't won it yet, I don't think, has he? you kind of them No, I don't know. I don't know. I have to go back and look. But he went. That's the best season the Lions have ever had, ever. They've never been the one seed. They've never won that many games. It's kind of hard to not give it to him. Pete would dump his wife and marry Dan Campbell tomorrow. I'm telling you right now. He loves him. sedalian camera I'm telling you right now, if he would
00:40:41
Speaker
and i And don't get me wrong, I still believe in Mike Elko. I think he's a good coach. I would have let you saw off my arm with no anesthetic if Campbell took the A&M job last year. I'm telling you right now. there's zero like That's not a joke. even my right off that's massive i think I think it deserves it. they've had like thirty They've had more injuries than anybody in the league.
00:41:08
Speaker
And they won 15 games, won the division. It's the first time Detroit's ever got it. It is between him and O'Connell. I will say that. I will say that. but Because O'Connell, they weren't expected to do anything in Minnesota. And obviously, they were right you know two quarters away from winning the division, getting the one seed. So I just think Campbell deserves it this year, just because of the history of the Lions and all that stuff. He has not won it.
00:41:38
Speaker
You're right. He has not won it. I think he should win a picture. you want to This is kind of a travesty, actually. I'm going to go ahead and call this out. Kevin Stefanski has won it twice in the last five years. Yeah, he gets a lot of love up there in Cleveland, don't he? That's, that's, wow. That's very surprising to me. Very, very, very surprising to me. Okay. But I'll take Washington.
00:42:08
Speaker
good I'll take Washington. Don't love the pick. I'm going to be rooting for Tampa Bay. I just have a feeling after the games. Yes. And but Washington didn't play great either. Like the Cowboys defense is all over Jay Daniels, but I also don't think so. I don't think they were necessarily running their full offense either. They were probably protecting him a little bit. Once Mariota got in there and they're running their actual offense, yeah they were moving the ball like nothing against the Cowboys. So, so I think.
00:42:37
Speaker
The way he played against the Falcons two weeks ago, if he can carry that momentum in against the Bucks and the way the Bucks defense has been really getting hurt and injured. The Bucks had to expel so much energy to even get in the playoffs this week. Yeah, I think they might be in i think they might be in for an early let down. So that's that's my prediction.
00:42:58
Speaker
I gotcha. And I think the expelling that energy is going to be a, it's going to be something that propels them. And we set out to do, it was tough. We did it. So also i now one of the odds, I don't know if if what the odds are that Jordan loves going to get to play.
00:43:17
Speaker
um
00:43:20
Speaker
Do you have any idea right now, now this is, you know, we're looking at this early, we're we're on Monday, when we were recording this, but what are the odds Jordan Love is available? I'd say 90%. 90%. Okay, so we're thinking the injury was nothing that we have to worry about. Just, I mean, if you could trust the coach, coach says he's going to be okay. He's going to be limited a little bit at practice because of, I think a hand injury.
00:43:50
Speaker
but that he's gonna be okay. It says that they're not it's not clear it's not clear yet whether he'll even be limited in practice heading into Sunday, as of three hours ago. so All I'll let you start this one then. This is one of your group one of your guys here, so I'll let you pick this one first. I love And this, I mean, that's silly. I i really like Jordan Love as a quarterback. And obviously, he played lights out against the Cowboys last year in the playoffs. and had ah Had an unbelievable game. I think LaFleur's a good coach. I think Green Bay's good. I think their defense is fast. Green Bay losing Christian Watson as a deep threat is a big deal. Yes, it is. I agree.
00:44:45
Speaker
um And I'm not a huge Christian Watson fan, but he just stretches the field so much that it that it matters. oh But I mean, i'm taking the I'm taking the Eagles here at home. I think if it was yeah if it was in Lambo, I picked the Packers, I will say that. It's gonna be closer than people probably think, and the spread's only three points, so Vegas thinks it's gonna be close. But I think a lot of people are probably just all over the Eagles.
00:45:13
Speaker
And I'm taking the Eagles, but watch out. That's all I'm going to say. Watch out for the Packers. Well, hearing the update about Jordan Love. Okay. So assuming that it's a near certainty that he's available, um,
00:45:33
Speaker
I'll take the Eagles by 10. I, I think say Kwan's got a little rest. The, the Eagle running games ridiculous right now. Um, I just, I think the Eagles are too much fire power, man. I think, uh, I think they're going to be able to run the ball at will just about, I think you can, you know, Jalen hurts is Jalen hurts. Uh, they're playing well again.
00:46:02
Speaker
defensively. I mean, I don't think the Eagles are amazing. I know that, you know, but they're very solid. um I just don't, I just, I think that ah yeah, I think I would take the eagle. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a double digit win. um now I wouldn't be shocked either.
00:46:28
Speaker
I haven't said that I would have said the same thing last year um when they played the the Cowboys. Because I thought the Cowboys team last year was that much better than Green Bay. um And you know maybe they were, maybe they won't, but they weren't that day. right So I think if it's a close game that favors Green Bay.
00:46:54
Speaker
There's game favors Green Bay in my opinion. But yeah, I think the Eagles win. I'm with you. All right, so that means you would have the Rams against the Lions. That's right. So what do you think? What do you think happens if we see the Rams Lions? I mean, you don't have to ask. It's the Lions at home over the Rams.
00:47:24
Speaker
What was, did they play each other this year? Maybe they played each other last year in the playoffs. I should say the Rams went there last year in the playoffs and the Lions beat them. So give me the Lions again over the Vikings or the Rams. Everybody doesn't matter. you you're taking the You're taking them here.
00:47:47
Speaker
a
00:47:51
Speaker
I'm with you. I, I, I think they're too talented. They have the right mentality. Um, I know how busted up their defense is, but they're getting a little healthier. Now they're saying David Montgomery could be back for that game. Like if I heard correctly the other day, uh,
00:48:15
Speaker
Um, that is, you want to talk about a running duo when you got David Montgomery and Jamir Gibbs. Holy cow. Um, anyway, I w I will say this. Uh, I think their defense, I really want to spend some time this off season study in their scheme because what they have lost talent wise defensively, um,
00:48:46
Speaker
they have overcome in such a big way. You know what I mean? And I know they, I know they're allowing points now and against quality teams and things, like but they still, when you watch them play defense, there's still the edge, the edge is there that, you know, the hits there, the hard hit, the effort plays are all there. And I'm like, man, I'd like to to just study that and see, you know what I mean? I'd love to sit down and pick the DC's brain and just be like, man, how are you setting up for this? Well, he's the hottest commodity out there. He's probably even more so than Ben Johnson. And shout out Aaron Glenn, man, another former Aggie and Dallas Cowboy. Yeah. The DC. Yeah. So. Yeah.
00:49:34
Speaker
oh But yeah, so we both have the Lions making the conference championship. So we had the Lions, and now we've you would have the Eagles and Commanders. That would be anywhere. An FCE matchup. Yep. You need the Eagles. Jay Daniels doesn't win two playoff games as a rookie. OK. I don't think he wins one as a rookie. I do think.
00:50:07
Speaker
The Bucks and Eagles would be very wildly entertaining. Yeah, I think so. I think that could be take the over and let's freaking go play some ball, man. um So that would be my matchup. I'm with you again. I think the Eagles just have too much right now.
00:50:27
Speaker
um They're healthy. They're healthy. They've got experience. Uh, but man, I tell you that could be one entertaining game to watch. So for sure. So that's the word yeah, we're in agreement one and two boring is boring as pigs in the world win see versus the two seed in the NFC championship. Um, but let's be honest, we kind of feel like
00:50:59
Speaker
these guys. jewel strings are but Yeah. Yeah. think I think it's a two horse race. Okay. Oh, you know what? I did that all wrong. Oh, Pete, we gotta go back and repack dude. I did that completely wrong. Oh no. The commander's win. They would play the lions. Oh no.
00:51:28
Speaker
Either way, yeah. We're gonna say it stays the same? Yes. Okay, now here's where it may get interesting.
00:51:40
Speaker
with If... No, no, we're still good. So that's the only change. That's the only change. Although with the Commander's Wind, that's not the only change. Then the Eagles are, in your scenario,
00:51:58
Speaker
We're playing the Vikings. So there's lots of scenarios. We probably should have just done the first part. ah We could redo the XR.
00:52:13
Speaker
We're going to get some more. Actually, it's kind of funny that we messed that up. now We'll keep that in there. What the heck? Why not? All right. So what are your quick thoughts?
00:52:28
Speaker
Eagles Vikings. Does it change? Yeah, give me the Vikings. Really? Okay. Yeah, I think compet i think each defense gives hurts lots of problems. Okay, so here we go. That's that's good. So let's go back to this. That means Pete's revised NFC picks.
00:52:54
Speaker
will be the Lions against the Vikings for the third time this year. Playing each other for the third time.
00:53:07
Speaker
sa mo i'm trying Okay, mine gets to stay the same because I picked the favorite. Gosh, every time didn't I?
00:53:25
Speaker
goy Well, it is I still I still think.
00:53:33
Speaker
You're probably right, because I probably missed a couple of the upset picks, but you have Eagles Lions. I've got Vikings Lions. conference championship game in the NFC. And I could see Vikings lions, to be honest with you. I really, really could. I'm sitting here looking at Vikings Eagles and going, man, you're right. The defense is beast. And there's the possible DC of the year right there. ah b Brian and b Brian Flores, correct.
00:54:05
Speaker
I think that's who is calling the defense there in Minnesota. So, golly, I'll stick with it. I'll stick with it just so that we're different, but I can see it. I can see the third time of it being. But the commander should have to beat the the commanders would have to beat the Bucks for that to happen.
00:54:36
Speaker
That's what it all depends on. Yes. Yep. Yep, yep, yep. All right. So I'm gonna stay where I'm at because i I still like the books over the commanders. Okay. Here we go. ASC side.
00:54:53
Speaker
um Let's start with the five four and I think the Chargers walk all over the Texans. That's good because I think so too.
00:55:05
Speaker
houston Yeah, I mean, I know that Houston, but man, John, John Harbaugh start. He's starting to get them there, dude. Jim Harbaugh, Ron Harbaugh. Sorry. Um, he's starting to, he's starting to get on there and they're fairly healthy. Um, and Houston just has not.
00:55:24
Speaker
looked impressive and lost Taint Dell against the Chiefs. um I was, by the way, that play happened right in front of me. I was at that game. And you should have heard of the stadium when it happened. Everybody knew that was not good. I mean, the second it happened, everybody kind of, oh, no, you know. Oh, yeah. So it was me.
00:55:49
Speaker
so um So I'm going to be short and sweet. I agree with you. Chargers are hot. Herbert's hot. Harbaugh's got to roll one. They're playing really good defense. And I've got them beating and covering the spread against the Texans. let's take What's Las Vegas got to that right now? Has the Chargers favored by three? Oh, yeah. Yeah. I think they cover easy.
00:56:13
Speaker
um I think this next one's almost as easy, man. Steeler's Ravens. The Steelers are really slogging through this last stretch of the season. The Ravens look good the other night against the Browns. I know it's the Browns. They're still playing hard. um You got to take the Ravens, even though or the Ravens aren't home, right? Yeah, I'm taking the Ravens here. Yeah, the Ravens are home. The Ravens are at home. Yeah, I'm taking the Ravens.
00:56:45
Speaker
So the only, the only game I could see possibly being a game, uh, Sean Payton's got the Broncos with got Bo Micks playing like he's a vet. Um, the Buffalo defense is not.
00:57:03
Speaker
Not real great. That's gonna be a shootout, man. Now, I still think there's two weapons on the Buffalo side and Josh Allen is playing like nobody. like He's not even playing like Josh Allen right now. He's playing out of his damn mind. Yeah, I think the Broncos are playing really well. Peyton's got him rolling. Defense is good, really good up front. They get after it, get after the passer.
00:57:28
Speaker
Kind of got to take the Chiefs games a little grain of salt. The Chiefs, it's not that they were just outclassed by players. I mean, the backups aren't just that horrible to where they can't do anything, but the Chiefs didn't show them a lick of nothing.
00:57:42
Speaker
They showed them the most basic coverages they could show. I mean, that's what they should do. They should be putting their throw down coverages on film in that game with their backups. They shouldn't be putting their best throw down and fourth down offensive plays out there, like with the backups for people to get on film. And so a lot of people don't realize that. but Yeah, they earned that right. The Chiefs earned the right to go out there and go, you know what, we'll do whatever we want to do. And it doesn't matter if, you know, we, you and I were talking before, and of course, the conspiracy theories will abound. And I don't even know that it's that far of a reach to be honest, but you know, the, if they beat the Broncos in week 18, and then the Bengals,
00:58:31
Speaker
Actually now we know that everything else is gone would have been in the playoffs um And there were questions would you rather play Denver or would you rather play the Bengals? Well, if you're the Chiefs right now, I can promise you I know the answer to that question um and There's going to be conspiracy of, well, they just, they take that on purpose to, so they'd have to, they might have, heck, I don't know if they did or didn't, but guess what? When you're 15 at one, you earned that right, man. you get and it's Do your thing, whatever you want to do, man.
00:59:13
Speaker
And the Bengals have nobody to blame with themselves. They lost a lot of close games earlier. They got but yeah beat by the Patriots week one. If that game flips, the Patriots have the number one pick and the Bengals are in the playoffs. So sure that stuff matters.
00:59:29
Speaker
you know it does and Yeah, I agree. That's, and I will say this, and I'm not a fan of this guy necessarily, but cause he's played for teams. I don't care for, but Joe Burrow said exactly that. Hey, that game was, we're just lucky to be in this job. If we took care of our business this season, we wouldn't even be in this position. So nobody to blame for, but us.
00:59:56
Speaker
Right, I think the bills will win. I like the Broncos, they're headed in the right direction. um But I don't think a rookie quarterback's going into Buffalo and beating Josh Allen this year, I just don't. I can't foresee that happening, so I'm taking the bills.
01:00:13
Speaker
and a um I think it's a high scoring game. Oh yeah, for sure. So I've got the we both have Ravens versus Bulls and that would be in Buffalo and we have Chiefs versus Chargers division game in Arrowhead. You know, they say it's hard to beat the same team three times in a year. e And that's what it would take for the Chiefs to advance. Against the Chargers.
01:00:46
Speaker
Um, well, you know what? In this Homer's opinion, uh, it's just the first three Pete, the thorough run into of the year. So I'm taking the chiefs at home. You got to go to Kansas city. Two teams since 2019 have gone into Kansas city and one playoff games.
01:01:08
Speaker
2019, the Patriots did it on a D Ford offsides penalty because Treverius Ward picked that ball off to end the game. You and I were sitting on the couch when that whole thing went down. And then when the Bengals came in to Kansas City in 2022 and one, those are the only two in the last that have come into Kansas City and want to play off game. So,
01:01:38
Speaker
I don't think I, again, I like, I hate that um'm that we're going to play the Chargers for the next several years um with the direction they're going, but, ah but Broncos too. Yeah. I still think that the Chiefs are too much for the Chargers at home. I think the home field makes a difference in this one specifically.
01:02:02
Speaker
um It's going to be a really close game, probably a low scoring game, if I had to guess. Like a 17 to 13 type deal, like a 24 to 20 type game. ah with That's not necessarily low scoring, but that's not a shootout. I don't think it's going to be a shootout. That's an offensive coordinator right there. Low scoring game, 24 to 20.
01:02:30
Speaker
That's not going to be a shootout, ah in my opinion. And I think it's going to be a close game. But I do take the Chiefs, just the experience in the end, I think wins out in that one against the Chargers. So I have them going back to what, about their fifth straight AFC Championship game? um Something like that.
01:02:51
Speaker
Yes, you're right. AFC Championship game. It's like six out of seven in the last five or something like that. Yeah. um By the way, there's about a 50-50 shot that ah Chuck and Janet Carr are at that game. as All right, my name Janet's making... You might as well go, bud. Easy, easy, I keep telling my family that she doesn't make anything.
01:03:20
Speaker
ah out me right now. home Okay, then hey, this would be a fun one. Oh, the best one. So yeah I made some more bills. Probably out of all the games we've talked about so far. This is probably the one that you circle.
01:03:42
Speaker
Multiple has to go to Buffalo.
01:03:46
Speaker
I think that's the difference. I think the home crowd in Buffalo makes a difference in this one. Josh Allen's too much. And I mean, I don't really have any analytical reasons why. It's just a gut feeling. And I want the Bills to win. I like Josh Allen. I like the Bills. And you know not to prelude anything. I want a Super Bowl matchup. Let's just say I want a Super Bowl matchup this year where both teams are trying to get their first one. We'll just say that.
01:04:17
Speaker
and so And so I'm picking the Bulls over the Ravens to go head to head once again with the Chiefs in the AFC Championship game. Okay, if that happens, there's show a really good chance that Chuck and Jana will be a Kansas City for that game.
01:04:37
Speaker
um
01:04:43
Speaker
Honestly, I mean, you're right. we We've been saying Josh Allen's playing out of his mind. um It is at Buffalo. On poker um paper, the Ravens have a better team. but i's i to say Almost across the board. Defensively, they're better. They have probably better wide outs. They have a better offensive line. They're better running back. So everything in my brain tells me to pick the Ravens. so Maybe there's a snowstorm.

And Derek Henry runs for 120 yards. And maybe, but the Bills have shown they can play in that snow, baby. They beat the heck out of, who was that they played in the snow this year? It was a good team. The 49ers have beat the, I mean, just dog walked the 49ers in the snow. This year, the 49ers weren't that good. But they were back healthy that game, but I agree with you. Yeah.
01:05:40
Speaker
but so Give me the bills don't know why that's a heart pick. Give me give me the bills. It's Josh Allen's year. He's getting married and Hailee Steinfeld He's gonna win the MVP But he's gonna make it to the EC Championship again against the Chiefs Okay
01:06:02
Speaker
See, I'm in the exact opposite situation of you. My heart, I want the Ravens to win. right Oh yeah, as a Chiefs fan, you should want the Ravens to win. Because the Ravens don't beat Kansas City. They just don't, even when they're better. Right. You can't explain it.
01:06:20
Speaker
Can't explain it. I agree. It's going to be a two out of bounds. It's going to be Jerry Snead knocking the ball at his A-Flowers hand in the goal line. It's going to be something if they play.
01:06:33
Speaker
And Lamar's not going to be as effective as a runner. And so you know what I mean? It's going to be something like that if they play. I agree. You couldn make you could make a solid, like you said, you can make such a solid argument analytically.
01:06:52
Speaker
um Statistically, that that's that's the smart move. But for me, it's just my heart. I want this three Pete so bad. Pete, I want this three Pete where someone to be a grandpa. and you warfo law i would Tim's to forgive me. Tim will forgive me for saying that. but If they win the they Super Bowl, he will.
01:07:17
Speaker
no ah what so bad Since my boss, okay, Pete, this is how confident and how badly I wanted three Pete. So Pete and I work, ah we work at football clinic together in Dallas. Are you doing Houston?
01:07:32
Speaker
I am doing Houston. Okay. So he's doing Houston too. I can't do Houston this year because I'm up in Arkansas. So they really only gonna let me have one weekend. So I'm going to be at Dallas working. Well, that's Super Bowl weekend. And I literally got my principal to agree to give me an extra travel day on Monday. Quote, because I'll be coming back from Dallas now.
01:07:58
Speaker
It's got nothing to do with me coming back from Dallas. It's got to do with the fact that is Superbowl Sunday. And I plan on watching the Superbowl probably with my son, which would be the first time that Tim and I had gotten to do that in a long time. And therefore means so I don't have to get up and go to work on Monday.
01:08:22
Speaker
So I'm going to have Monday off and he graciously awarded it to me for extra travel. So he doesn't listen to the podcast. um
01:08:40
Speaker
But. but
01:08:44
Speaker
So I am 100% on my heart saying I would rather play the Ravens. So I'm rooting Ravens and picking Ravens because if Josh Allen rolls into Kansas City, we're going to overtime and it's going to be a coin flip. That's what I truly believe in my heart. I think if Josh Allen rolls into Kansas City the way they're playing right now,
01:09:10
Speaker
that we have another championship game that ah you know and I just think that's what it is. And then we're a coin flip away from winning or losing. So I'm going to go Ravens. and full So we're both we're both a little different. We both are taking the one seed to make it. yeah I'm taking the bills to make the Commerce Championship game as you're taking the Ravens. I'm taking the Vikings.
01:09:41
Speaker
to make it against the Lions and you're taking the Eagles against the Lions. Correct, that's correct. so there There we go. There's your hot picks ah If you've made it this far in the podcast And you know the tens of you probably don't know I'll go ahead and bring you up to to date with where Pete is I'm 48 years old and I am my son and his wife Erin Just let us know right before Thanksgiving that she is pregnant um We're twins and we found out
01:10:17
Speaker
over Christmas, it's twin girls. So I'm going to be a grandpa and I've been waiting on this day, which sounds weird because I'm only 48. But anyway, trust me, I'm an old soul. And I have been waiting on the day. So we will have Lena and Laurie Anne.
01:10:40
Speaker
sometime in the month of May. She's not a due until the end of May, but the doctor's kind of like, yeah, good luck with that. It'll be early in May, whatever you have these kids. Right. Anyway, so we're super excited about that. And I do have, that's always been revealed. So I can, I can ah share that.
01:10:58
Speaker
um So yeah, that will be, I literally, Pete got invited to join a bass fishing club this spring. And I was like, I think I'm going to be heading down to Texarkana a lot this spring, probably wait till next year. It's a good choice. Congratulations. Everybody involved. That's going to be, it's going to be so special. It's going to be great. It's going to be, yeah, we're excited. Jana's excited. The girls are,
01:11:29
Speaker
ridiculously excited. You know, my wife is a twin, you know, you know, Jana is a twin. yeah So there she and her sister are Jumping up and down. Talk about some, spoil talk about some spoiled kids. These kids are about to be your family. you know you haven't oh Oh man. No, I the i found it was all girls. It was like, they're both girls. I looked at Jan. I was like, I don't even have to get on to them. Like I can send them to you. You're going to get onto and I'm going to come back and get them ice cream. It's going to be all wonderful. I get to be the good guy all day, every day.
01:12:08
Speaker
Check us to buy some pink guns and some other big toys to play with in pink, you know. Oh, all sorts of, dude, we already, oh.
01:12:20
Speaker
Okay, so we went to the game, right? We had to gear up for the, so over Christmas, my my family goes to, or went to, my son, my daughter, and my son-in-law, he'd never been to NFL game. ah We all went to the Chiefs Texans game. And we went to the rally house. Shout out to the rally house if you guys need advertising among our dozens of fans. Oh, that house is great. I just went there in Dallas.
01:12:46
Speaker
Yeah. digit Okay. roy houseson So we go there and so, you know, you get up just a little bit and we turn the corner and there's the baby section and dude, we must have disrupted the entire store because we just go nuts. And when all so when the smoke clears, even though we agreed to go on this trip to Kansas city, to Chicago and not buy Christmas gifts as we would spend time together.
01:13:13
Speaker
The twins already have ones, the chief jerseys, my homes and Kelsey like done like already, but we didn't even know the sex yet. Like Tim had not even told us the sex and they have Jersey onesies, my homes and ah Kelsey. So like, yeah, they're, they're going to be well taken care of. Well taken care of.
01:13:39
Speaker
But Pete, brother, it was awesome to see you on the video and yes sir ah talk to you for a little bit. We miss you guys a ton. We miss y'all down here, brother. But and I think it's awesome that you're up there close to your family or down there close to your family. Hey, y'all get a snow? Are you getting it?
01:14:03
Speaker
No, there's a chance we get some wintery mix Thursday, but I think we're going to hover around the 32 to 35 degree mark. So I don't know if we're going to get necessarily ice ice, but man, it'd be great to miss a day of school, you know.
01:14:16
Speaker
As we come right back that we come right back, we are right now, like on the Thursday night, three to five inches and then Friday morning, another one. So we're in a four to eight inch kind of range right now is what they're calling for. So I'm pretty, you know, I'm pretty stoked about some snow, but what I'm saying is great. Go ahead.
01:14:41
Speaker
Does that mean you get to stay at home in Arkansas or do y'all sludge through it? Yeah, absolutely. No, it's still the South bro. I mean, you get a couple inches on the ground. We're good. It means that I'll be up all hours of the night watching snow. Um, but anyway, but now it's, we're definitely in a better situation. Y'all are in the good situation for you guys and we're in a good situation for us, obviously. But that's, uh,
01:15:11
Speaker
You know, hopefully we get to keep this thing rolling and we get to get back on track of, you know, like talking to some things we've learned to other high school coaches. And one of them is that, you know, there are, for me, and I i think I can speak for Pete, but I have a relationship. She should, she make her special and it and it's, they change a little bit, but they're always but holding on to, not all all of them, most of them are holding onto. Oh yeah, for sure.
01:15:40
Speaker
Anyway, I can't wait to see Pete's kiddos. Whenever I called him earlier this week to say, Hey, let's, let's get back on the podcast. I got to talk with his daughter, his son for just a little bit. And anyway, so let's, we'll let this one hang out here. um We'll try to come back next week. We'll set a day next week, Pete, and we'll see how we did on round one.
01:16:10
Speaker
It sounds good. Make some adjustments. And as soon as we get through the playoffs, we'll get back on the stuff that we like talking about to begin with. Sounds good, buddy. Can't wait. my but Good talking to you. And I hope you guys enjoyed this. We will talk to you all again soon. See you.
