Podcast Introduction and Delays
00:00:01
Speaker
Yo, we're here. Hey, yo, what up, what up? It's been a little bit, but Bo, I don't know if you see the link in the URL.
00:00:10
Speaker
And the title of this podcast, which we have not yet come up with, Your Eyes Do Not Deceive You. It is episode 101. No tomfoolery. What's crazy, we were going to record episode 101 because that's the episode that we're on. So it's like natural that that would be the next episode we record, you know? Yeah. We were going to record, was it two weeks ago, three weeks ago when my internet
Internet Troubles and Wi-Fi Squirrel
00:00:37
Speaker
oh my gosh we were guys we're trying we're trying out here we're putting in the grind for you but the universe hates talk sauce like jack and i had a plan all week it was i think it was a wednesday where we were like we're gonna record today today's the day and then i was working from home which i always do and then at like three or four in the afternoon my internet just completely shut off
00:01:03
Speaker
And I like tried resetting the router and all that shit and it wasn't working. And then I went out of town the next day so Verizon couldn't come to look at it till I got back. And when they looked at it, there's like my internet box has a cord that goes like through the wall outside the building.
00:01:19
Speaker
And the cord was just like gone, like completely ripped. So like someone like steal it or something. Well, no one could get that. Like physically, it'd be impossible for someone to get there. So the theory is that like a bird or like a squirrel or something ripped it out of the wall. There's like a radioactive squirrel running around like squirrels with superpowers that are if you see a squirrel on your phone connects to Wi-Fi.
00:01:45
Speaker
Yeah, that's when you know.
Travel Tales and Family Events
00:01:48
Speaker
Get that squirrel. The internet company's after him. Wi-Fi squirrel. That's the name of that episode, by the way. Yeah, absolutely. It's a 101 Wi-Fi squirrel. But then after that, we've both been traveling. Yes.
00:02:03
Speaker
It's been crazy. Mother's Day stuff, family obligations. I'm going to South like this weekend. Again, aren't you just there? Yeah, I was just there for Mother's Day, but my brother's graduating high school. It's early this year. My sister was telling me about that. Yeah, I feel like school ended later for us. The year we graduated high school,
00:02:24
Speaker
was like two days before Bonnaroo. I also think they start earlier. I think this is a better schedule for being in Texas in the summer. I mean, you might as well be in a classroom in August. August stinks.
00:02:43
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. Cause I, I remember the school used to always start like on our birthdays, right? Yeah. It was like now it's a couple weeks earlier. Yeah. It's probably like two or three weeks before. All right.
Birthday Reflections and Traditions
00:02:54
Speaker
Remember having the first day of school on your birthday, kind of the worst dude. It was always the Monday or the Tuesday it felt like.
00:03:01
Speaker
None of your boys really knew that it was your birthday and you don't want to be that guy that like tells everyone and it's you're not like established enough in the year to announce your birthday, you know, but it's also not a summer birthday. So you can't do a like a big party dude. Unless if of course we do it the weekend before school starts and someone throws up in Kelly's mom's bathroom, but that's a different hypothetical, you know? Yeah, but I think that that that
00:03:27
Speaker
Hardship sculpted us into the men that we are today. I wonder because I don't really care about my birthday now and I wonder if on some level I
00:03:37
Speaker
taught myself not to care about having a big thing for my birthday because it was always the first week of school and no one gave a shit. It's possible. I've never been like a huge birthday guy except for Doble B day. Doble B day is an exception. I almost like the idea of celebrating Doble B day more than I like. Well, it's just fun because there's that like, that
00:03:59
Speaker
10 seconds span where it'll be like my birthday and then 10 seconds later, it's your birthday. Happy birthday at 11 59 and 45 seconds on August 25th. And then it finishes. Yeah, do you think you can have birthday to Jack? Jack and the Jack happy birthday to Oh, dude, that'd be crazy.
00:04:25
Speaker
We gotta make that happen. We should time that shit out. We do always try and call each other like at midnight for one month. Well, I think we're pretty good about that. It's just so funny. It's also fun to say. Yeah, yeah. Don't play V-Day.
00:04:40
Speaker
It's weird too, because Joe and Kelly have a Doble A.B. Day too. I know. I think you and I are more like into the bit. Oh, yeah. They're not into it. Into having one. You and I kind of forced Doble A.B. Day upon people. We're doing this for Doble A.B. Day. If you guys want to come, that's great. But this is happening. If you're not there, you're dead to me. We are due for an in-person Doble A.B. Day.
00:05:10
Speaker
Probably not this year, but one of the next two Doble B days we have to do in person because it'll be- It's a weekend, right? I don't know. I was just going to say, because I turned 30 this year, you turned 30 next year. Oh, yeah. Let me see. 30th Doble. Today, this year, my birthday's on a Sunday. I think last year was, well, then you would have been Monday.
00:05:34
Speaker
Let me see, um, 20, I guess it'll just go forward to one day. 20, 20. Yeah. Last year, your birthday was on a Saturday then. If it's on Sunday this year. Yeah. It's Monday. We might have to take Monday, Tuesday off. Worth it. Next year, 2025. That's the 30 that we're both in our thirties. Next double A B day. That's a big B day.
Golfing Plans and Humor
00:05:56
Speaker
That is what should we do for 30th birthday? Double A B day.
00:06:02
Speaker
golf day two, obviously. Yeah, that's that goes without saying that comes with the, you know, as I feel like the older we get like golf day three, you'll make an I think they're the number of golf days will increase like every five years with golf. Jack plays a lot more than me, but like
00:06:23
Speaker
I'd say about 20% of our conversations are about golf now. Yeah, Bo has, Bo doesn't get out there quite as much, but he has the spirit of a golfer. I played three times in the last month or so.
00:06:38
Speaker
So I, I, I, and this year me, I have like a couple of friends who are just as into it in New York now. So we're going to try and go at least once a month now, which still isn't as much as I'd like to. But that's still like, you're like playing somewhat regularly. Yeah. And I finally like started piecing together parts of my game. Cause probably last year I played five or six times and then the year before that, maybe about the same. And then.
00:07:03
Speaker
When I played with my dad, I started piecing together parts of my game that I've never been able to put together, which was really exciting because I just wasn't chipping over the green every fucking time. I remember you were on the greens. You were a lethal weapon in a bad way. Once you have to become precise in golf, I'm fucked. When you were just trying to hit it far. I always thought you hit the ball well. But I guess you played a good amount when you were younger. The same thing happened to me.
00:07:32
Speaker
I played a lot when I was younger than I didn't play for like five years. And then I picked it back up and I was like, okay. Yeah. I, I, my dad tried to get me to get into it with him when I was younger, but I wasn't cause I was like in high school. I was like, what are we doing? You know? And then I remember the summer my parents moved to Chicago. My parents had a trophy club membership and they were just trying to use up whatever meal credits or whatever. So they said I could go.
00:07:59
Speaker
And I remember me and AJ probably walked like five times. Where was I? Denton maybe?
00:08:08
Speaker
Was that after the summer of high school? Was summer going into junior year? I must have been in San Francisco. Yeah, you might have been. It might have been summer going into senior year. I was either in San Francisco or Spain. Yeah. That would have been awesome. I should have not gone to San Francisco or Spain. Because I think my parents moved to Chicago the year you and I were both in Europe at the same time.
00:08:34
Speaker
So I think I was in Europe and then I went back to Texas for a couple of weeks before I went back to school for like maybe like three weeks. Dude, I want to get Golf Day 2 merch. We should make a brand called Golf Day 2. We should. It's like Friday. Where's what it's called? Yeah, yeah.
00:08:51
Speaker
That'd be fun. Our symbol is instead of like the communist logo of like the hammer and the shiv. It's two golf clubs with like the Soviet font and stuff because communist America. Yeah, I'm down. If we can work communism into it, I'm happy. I wasn't going there initially, but I'm glad that we ended up there. I think of golf as a very communist sport.
00:09:17
Speaker
I'd say so. Elaborate. Allow me to, right? Please. So as we all know, there are 18 tenants to communism and that's not true. Wait, can I cut you off for a second? Yes. We forgot to play the thief song, so this is just in preparation. Did they hear us talking over it? I hope so. Awesome.
00:09:45
Speaker
So anyways, golf is a sport that doesn't believe in elitism. It knocks people off their pedestals constantly. It is a sport that is proletariat in spirit.
00:10:02
Speaker
You know what I mean? Yeah. I guess in spirit, but in execution, it's not, right? Well, because you have to be rich to be good at golf. We need to bring golf back to the common man. Yes, we do. Every child born in communist America is given a bottle of breast milk and a driver. Thank you. We also don't believe in breastfeeding. It's purely bottle feeding. Yeah, absolutely.
00:10:29
Speaker
the way of the dinosaur, but what have you been up to? When was the last time we podcasted? Can I check? Let me see here. I feel like we're hitting once a month pretty consistently right now. Something like that. 23 days ago. Oh, okay. So three weeks. And then before that, it was, we actually had a decent little spurt. Oh, I had something to tell you. What?
Phone Mishaps and Verizon Adventures
00:10:59
Speaker
about my phone breaking. Oh yes, great story. I wanted to tell, I didn't tell you yet, right? You told me, yeah, you and Kelly both told me. Did I give you the whole, oh man. I just know it broke on Carroll Avenue.
00:11:14
Speaker
Okay. Well, damn. I forgot we talked about this. But only like three people now. You could tell it to another 20. I don't know, man. No, I will. I initially didn't tell you because I was like, this is kind of a funny story. And this was like my only solace in the fact that I had to buy a new phone was that I got to share it with our listeners organically. But not only at this point. But anyway, so here's what happened.
00:11:43
Speaker
I'm playing basketball with my brothers, right in the driveway. And I leave my phone on a car. And it was kind of funny. Well, we're just there. And my brother left his phone on the car, too. We're just like playing basketball, because the car was in the driveway. And while it was on there, I actually on the car on the top, like, Oh, sure. Okay. Yeah. And I told
00:12:09
Speaker
my brother a story of when Kelly left his phone on my car. And I drove to work in high school. And some guy, I didn't realize it was there. And so I was working that golf shop. Oh, sure. I remember that shout out to golf.
00:12:32
Speaker
Anyway, some guy pulls up next music like yelling at me and rolls down his window and he goes, there's a phone on your car. I was like, oh shit. And it ended up being Kelly's phone. And so I told that story to my brother and then just totally forget about
00:12:50
Speaker
just forget about my phone. And I just like didn't look at my phone for like four hours, probably like just didn't think about for Jack. I just didn't think about my phone for like a very extended period of time. Yeah. And I was like, I haven't seen my phone in a while. And I like went through the whole house and I was like, Oh, no, surely I didn't leave it on the car. And we tried to call it. It just went like straight to voicemail car was it on? It was my parents car, but my brother drove it to like a friend's house. Hmm.
00:13:17
Speaker
And we had no way of finding it because it got destroyed. Well, I didn't know it was destroyed yet. But it was going straight to voicemail. We were like, let's just drive along the path. So we leave my parents' house and drive out onto Carroll Avenue, which is a busy 30 mile an hour street. And we're just driving down. And I see a phone case in my phone. And I was like, oh, no. And it had definitely been there for a couple hours and gotten run over by 20 cars. So if the phone had just fallen off the car, it might have been fine.
00:13:46
Speaker
It likely would have been fine if it didn't happen on Carroll Avenue, but that was the first big turn he took, and it just got absolutely destroyed. I have it, so I'll show it to you later. My favorite part of you telling Kelly's story and then this story is if Kelly left his phone on the car, it would have been fine. Oh, yeah. It was funny. Didn't you say you and Kelly were talking about it, and Kelly was like, that sounds like something I would do.
00:14:17
Speaker
It was it was a pretty solid thing. But so that happens. The drama does not in there, though. Oh, no. Yeah, boom, boom, wait. So it's like kind of starting to be night, so nowhere's open. But the next day, next morning, I go to the Verizon store. And I'm like, OK, well, I need to get a new phone because
00:14:47
Speaker
I have work coming up and like all my two-factor, do you have like two-factor authentication? Yes, I do. It's like, I like have to have my phone to get into anything. I hate it. I get it, but I hate it. Yeah, I feel the exact same way. Like I understand why we need this, but I disagree with it. It's super annoying. Yeah. But so I need to get a new phone, like kind of ASAP. And I go to the Verizon store and I initially want this one phone. I'm like, Hey, I'll take this one. He's like, okay. And he's like trying to scan it for me.
00:15:18
Speaker
He's like, it's not working. And then he comes out and he's like, oh, this phone's not for sale for another two days. And I was like, you have it right there. And he's like, I don't know what to tell you. So I ended up getting a different phone that was like a little more expensive. And all in, it was like $700 to buy the phone. And I was like, ugh. It's like a nice new phone. And my phone was kind of shitty anyway. But it was just kind of a bummer.
00:15:45
Speaker
But he didn't like set it up there because we're about to leave to go have dinner or something or lunch. And we leave and like a couple hours after that, I go to set the phone up. And I don't know what happened. I like switched the SIM from my old phone, which I don't know if you're like not supposed to do or something. Are you not supposed to do that? I thought you were, but I think they might have changed things recently. So anyway, I did that, but I was having issues like getting it set up. So I call the,
00:16:16
Speaker
like support line people and I was like on my brother's phone and I was like, Hey, like I want to get this phone set up. Um, and then they're like taking me through the process and they're like, Oh, okay. Um, and it like takes a while and they're like, okay, we figured it out. Like, so I'm going to do it now. And then my brother's phone disconnected. So apparently they like tried to connect my number to his line or like vice versa or something. And it just broke both of our phones. So neither of our phones would work.
00:16:45
Speaker
So after that, I'm like, well, shit, like I got to figure this out. So I go to the Verizon store and I'm just like, tell, I like walk into the guy who sold me the phone like a few hours earlier and he's like, what happened? And I was like, it wasn't good.
00:17:04
Speaker
He knew that you weren't so pleased. You were like, I would like a second phone. Definitely didn't come back for seconds. So I explained to him the situation and then we end up sitting on the phone with like support for him for like over an hour. I'm sitting in the Verizon store. He was able to fix my brother's phone, but my phone, he was like,
00:17:28
Speaker
He was like, we're not going to be able to do this. Like the person was like, we can't do this today. And we like talked like multiple people like this is going to take at least 24 hours. And I was like, what the fuck is going on? You got doubly fucked. So the next day, the next day I called and I had to go.
00:17:43
Speaker
Like long story short, I had to go through another like three Verizon reps, like escalating in support tiers. And I was on the phone for like another hour and a half, at least the next day. It was like a six hour affair. I'm like getting stressed out thinking about it again. It was so messed up. It's weird that they were able to fix your brother's phone, but not yours. So apparently what happened was they put the first Verizon rep put in order to like change my phone number or something.
00:18:12
Speaker
by mistake. And he none of them had like the credentials to clear the board like to make that go away. So you had to go up like a really high level of support for that. Are you on so you're on your family plan? Yeah, yeah, yeah, sure. Same. Yeah, so that makes sense. That's
00:18:32
Speaker
An insanely infuriating story. Dude, I was so mad. What day of the week was this? It was on Sunday. So you kind of like just it was on Mother's Day. It like took up my whole fucking weekend. It was crazy. That sucks. What'd you do for Mother's Day? What'd you get for your mom? So we kind of all just chipped in and got her like this like a robe, like a really nice robe thing. And there's some flowers. The classic. But we just kind of I'm trying to think what we did.
00:19:02
Speaker
We went and we ate like Mexican food, but I honestly spent like, they were out of town up until like Saturday. What, your parents? Yeah, they got back like Saturday morning. Where'd they go? They just had to like go visit some friends. Oh, sure. But anyway, like the whole time I was just dealing with a stupid phone thing. It was crazy. That sucks, man. Yeah.
00:19:28
Speaker
That's gnarly. But anyway, that probably wasn't as fun of a story as I expected. No, it was a pretty entertaining story. It started getting fired up. Everyone can relate to customer service bullshit. Also, do you like how lean back I am in my chair right now? Yeah, you got more relaxed as I was getting stressed out.
00:19:43
Speaker
i don't know why like for some reason bow is like oh yeah i love seeing jack stressed out my favorite show i have like a really nice desk chair that i can like lean back like it's like a recliner in a movie theater and i'm just pretty far leaned back be like that looks nice is it new uh i got it when it
00:20:04
Speaker
When I started my current job, they gave me like a stipend for work from home stuff.
Standing Desks and Posture Tips
00:20:09
Speaker
So I got way nicer stuff than I would have because they gave me the money for it. So I have like a standing desk and I have like a stand for my laptop. I already had a second monitor so I didn't need to buy one of those. So I bought like a really nice like
00:20:28
Speaker
work chair and it's great. If I'm hanging out in my living room watching TV, I'll just sit in my work chair. It's really comfortable. How much was that bad boy, if you don't mind me asking? 300 bucks, something like that. It's so worth it for a good chair. I'm actually, mine's kind of, I do like mine, but it's kind of fucked up. It's squeaky and leans in a direction. How old is that? I probably got it around the start of
00:20:55
Speaker
COVID. Oh, so you've had it for a while. I mean, that's four years. Yeah. Maybe like a little bit after the start of COVID, I think, because I had to start working from home. I remember I was like working in this chair initially, just because I didn't have like a setup, you know? Yeah, it was like not conducive for work. And my back was like killing me. No, that's horrible. Yeah, I had shitty chairs.
00:21:17
Speaker
until almost two years ago. I just had shitty chairs and my back fucking hurt all the time and stuff. So when they gave me the money for like work from home stuff, I was like, I'm going to get a nice chair and a good desk. Do you use the standing part of your desk much? It's funny because I think about this all the time. I was really excited about getting a standing desk. I was like, this is going to be great. And then I told you, Jack Gardner, I told Jack, I was like, I got a
00:21:45
Speaker
I got a standing desk. And Jack was like, you're never gonna stand. And I never do. I do sometimes and like sometimes I will. But it's always me being like, Oh, yeah, I should use my that's exactly I used to have one like in one of my my former offices. And
00:22:08
Speaker
I remember we did talk about this and the only time I would stand up would be like, I should stand up. I have the standing desk and I would stand up for like 15 minutes and I'm like, I don't like working while I'm standing up. I actually do kind of like it when I do it. I feel like almost I lock in a little bit more. Oh really? Like I do it. Like when I do it, it's like when I have a little bit more to do, cause I'm a little less comfortable. So I feel like I get stuffed on faster so I can sit back down. Yeah. I haven't, I would like, if I had,
00:22:36
Speaker
opportunity to like get one with a stipend or something I totally would horrible my standing desk wasn't that expensive yeah I just don't want one enough to like buy it myself that's fair that's fair I've ended in a lot but what I do do is adjust the height a lot
00:22:54
Speaker
Do do do do. Nice. I do adjust the height a lot because I am constantly like trying to sit with better posture. So I'm like trying to like assess where I think my posture is. Yeah, I'm a big I'll like hunch over like oh so bad. I'm not very good about it. Like I try and be cognizant of it. But sometimes when I'm just like working hard on stuff, you just get like locked in and it's hard to remember to sit up straight. It is. It sucks.
00:23:24
Speaker
I like spend a lot of time like thinking about and improving my standing posture, which I feel like is pretty good now. We've compared before. You have very good standing posture.
00:23:35
Speaker
I do now. It used to be terrible, but my sitting posture is just like not good. I actually think I think more about my sitting posture than my sitting posture. I need to start, man. I need to take a play out of your book. I sometimes will try and just sit against my wall with my back level against it for a couple of minutes. Let me tell you, I'm sitting up straight as hell now that we're talking about it. I am now that we're talking about it. I was completely slouched. Yeah, both basically laying down. It was awesome. I could fall asleep too.
00:24:05
Speaker
Yeah, this is exciting. It's still crazy that we've hit triple digit episodes. Yeah, it's insane. I mean, we've been doing
100th Episode Celebration
00:24:13
Speaker
this. We need to document some dates. I don't remember the exact date, but it was in October of 2020. I remember it was like October-ish. Coming up on four years of talk sauce. That's huge. What do you think is a bigger anniversary, hitting episode 100 or hitting four years?
00:24:31
Speaker
I think 100, but I think five years will be bigger than episode 100. Five years we need to- Potentially. We might have to combine five years. It'd be like celebrated early on double AB day. Ooh. Can you imagine double AB day, five year birthday? It's triple AB day. That'd be sick. I mean, the other thing about double AB day to our listeners, if one of you wants to legally change your birthday,
00:24:59
Speaker
You're welcome to be part of the festivities for sure. Yeah. We're not, we should look up celebrities with our birthdays. John Mulaney and I have the same birthday. I know that for sure. Okay. So I'm going to rattle off a few and you have to pick who we would invite to our birthday party.
Celebrity Birthday Game
00:25:18
Speaker
Okay. Are you going to look up August 25th first and then like rattle off the coolest ones. Then we'll go August 26th. Okay.
00:25:26
Speaker
Here's August 25th. Dude, we're starting off with a banger. Billy Ray Cyrus. Oh, huge. That's sick. He's so Virgo. Yeah. We've also got Gene Simmons. Okay, that's a cool one. There's a lot. Wow. I guess there's just a lot of celebrities.
00:25:48
Speaker
Um, Tim Burton, eh, Rachel Ray. I think we invite her just so she can make some apps or something. Rachel Ray yelled at my brother one time. She sucks. We don't like her. Oh, really? Yeah. All right. Should we invite her as a prank, but it's actually somewhere else. Yeah, yeah, for sure. All right, cool, cool. Um, I think those might be Sean Connery. Sean Connery, that'd be a fun one. We'd get laid probably. Yeah. Um.
00:26:18
Speaker
Alexander Skarsgard be good. Oh, that's a cool one. Yeah. So who would you pick if we could pick one from each day? I think Billy Ray Cyrus. I kind of agree. Yeah. I just feel like you would have really good energy for, for a birthday party. Yeah. I'm looking up August 26 right now. Okay. I've got it as well. Oh gosh. The first one is a bang dude. Wait, there's two, there's two that we need. Okay. Okay. Macaulay Culkin. Yeah. Obviously.
00:26:46
Speaker
But then sometimes I feel like we need a nice mature presence. I know where you're going with this one for sure. Tell the people. Mother Teresa. Yeah. She has to be there, dude. You might be number one. That'd be so good. I think if we can pick one from each day, we go Billy Ray Cyrus and Mother Teresa. Mother Teresa. I knew exactly where you were going.
00:27:14
Speaker
Yep, Colkin would be cool. I feel like he wouldn't be that fun anymore because he like partied too hard when he was younger. Yeah, he's probably like super chill now. Yeah, which is nice. That's cool. Good for him, but we're trying to get fucked up. And we do some good, you know? Yeah, with Mother Teresa, we like repent for the previous two days. Yeah, maybe. Okay, how about this August?
00:27:39
Speaker
It actually lines up perfectly to their birthdays. We just have a wild extreme hedonism birthday day on the 25th with Billy Ray Cyrus. Then we just feel a mint shame for all of the atrocities we've committed. Then on 26th, we spend the day with Mother Teresa making up for everything. How we want to move forward in the next year. Yeah.
00:28:09
Speaker
That's a great idea. I'm into it. Yeah, dude. It sounds fun. I'll put out some feelers dad, but she'd come back for that for sure. Oh dude, no problem. Yeah, that would be sick. That's a good idea. I think we're off to a good start. Don't believe it. It's crazy that it's summer. It's memorial day weekend. Yeah. Yeah. Monday off. Yeah, I do. Yeah. You know what I'm doing?

golfing. Ooh, fun. I'm actually playing nine holes in Dallas. Oh, nice. Yeah, I'm playing 18 on Monday. It's going to be sick. That sounds fun. Yeah, I mean, I'm excited to have the day off and I am excited to go home, but it just it sucks like how much the drive like there and back takes up of the the long weekend. Graduating. Will. Will.

That's crazy. What grade is Salmon? I think he's a freshman. Okay, so he's got a couple of years. Maybe he's an eighth. Where's Will going to college? A&M. A&M, good for him. Three in a row, A&M. Were you in a row? You have three A&Ms in your family? Dang. That's crazy. Where does Sam want to go to college? I think his plan at this point is to go into a trade.
00:29:31
Speaker
Oh, sure. He wants to be an electrician, I think. Like a merchant marine? Yeah, something like that. Yeah, for sure. I can't believe you're the only one who went to UNT. How do you feel about that? Neutral. Yeah, you didn't want to have- No real feeling. I don't know. It was good, but I've

I don't know. I don't think it was the coolest place to go. Like I was by the end of my four years, I was like super ready to to leave Denton. But I think that's probably how it is it. I think that's true. But it depends where you go, I guess. Yeah, I liked it. The like feeling of graduating college and like the reality of the world hasn't hit you yet.

And you're like, I have my whole life ahead of me is very exciting. Yeah, for sure. But then like that last

year of college when you're like, Oh, you get a college degree. And like, basically the only thing you qualify for is cold call sales. It's, it's crazy.
00:30:44
Speaker
how hard it is to get a job when you have a degree. Because we would interview people for just intro jobs. And the amount of people that apply for that stuff, it's crazy. Yeah, and there's no way you can. I think that's, I mean, it's probably the hardest job to get. Because I remember my first job out of college, I interviewed a bunch of places. But now, whenever I move jobs, I'm only interviewed a couple places each time. Yeah. Yeah. Well, the first job I got out of college
00:31:14
Speaker
It was the only job I really interviewed for, because it was the first one I applied for. But Yelp, the way they operate is they hire a shit ton of people over the summer, because they know people are going to quit. Yeah, that makes sense. I didn't apply anywhere like that, so. I didn't know. I didn't realize what it was. I mean, it seemed like a cool. I mean, it got you to New York. Yelp seems like, from the outside perspective, a pretty cool company. And you just didn't know what
00:31:42
Speaker
Yeah, I'm waiting for Yelp. This is crazy. That's cool. I'm working like in a big office in Manhattan and stuff. And then my job was cold call sales. And you were cold calling like small businesses. Yeah, ripping them off. Trying to extort them. Yeah. Like the moral like.
00:32:00
Speaker
qualms I had about my work was crazy. I would hold the pitches and view myself as like a saboteur. I was like, I'm ticking it down from the inside. It's how depressing cold call sales is. I needed that, you know? Yeah. I feel like yours was extra depressing too. Cause like mine, I was like calling people about like big business stuff. Yeah. And we're just ripping off small businesses. Yeah. That's part of the, like,
00:32:29
Speaker
thing that I think made working at Yelp so depressing is on the surface. It was like a cool office with food and kegs and a coffee shop where you got free coffee and stuff. And then like the dichotomy of that and the actual work I think made it. Yeah. Because I thought whenever you told me about that job initially, I was like, Oh, that sounds sick. Good job. You on the job, you know? Yeah.
00:32:53
Speaker
You actually were trying to get me to work at Yelp and move there briefly. You remember that? And there was a while where you were like, maybe I'd be interested in moving to like New York or something. Yeah. Yeah. And I was like, dude, I'll refer you at Yelp. Cause they, the first three months, it's equal parts, like, cause you're in training for two or three months when you start working there. It's equal parts, like.
00:33:17
Speaker
selling you on the job and the culture and training you how to do the job. So when you start working at Yelp, like you buy it, like, yeah. And so I was asked to be a brainwash period. And I think you were in the middle of it and you were like, yeah.
00:33:33
Speaker
Yeah, I was, big time. I would have been pissed if I moved up there and I would have been like... I remember it was like the fall. Oh yeah, I would have felt so bad.

I remember it was like October and I smoked pot with some of my coworkers and we were all talking about our job. And then I just remember being high, being like, wait, this is what I do.
00:34:03
Speaker
And that was the first time I was ever like, oh my god. And then I worked there for another year. Oh, that's so funny. All right, let's call it there. I'm going to play us out. All right, peace.
