Seattle Sounders Scrimmage Recap

00:03:06
Speaker
everybody? Welcome to another preseason postgame reaction show. We are out at Long Acres where the Seattle Sounders just scrimmaged Louisville City SC and took a 3-1 victory. Albert Rusnak with the opener from the penalty spot, 31st minute, and then Osaze de Rosario. Drawing the penalty drawing, sco drawing said penalty and two more goals. Uh, one of the better preseason camps I've seen in recent Seattle Sounders memory. We're going to talk about that and more of our takeaways, uh, from this game last preseason scrimmage before the actual marathon begins. Excited to get into it. There was some good, uh, good stuff. Good takeaways. I thought from this game, Noah, but, uh,
00:03:48
Speaker
Let's I guess we can just start with the obvious if

Osaze De Rosario's Impact and Potential

00:03:51
Speaker
that works for you. Yeah. Osase De Rosario. We've been talking about him a lot this preseason. He already had three goals coming into this game and he was starting this game this game against Louisville with the first choice 11. And so that was the first thing when I look at the lineup. I see he's starting again. I figured they were toying with the idea of having him be a first-choice starter on this team going into the year, but seeing him in the starting 11 once again, I was like, all right, I think Osaze de Rosario, he might just be a starter on this team. that's what And then with how he played today, i think that even further reinforces that he was an absolute monster. Again, these are not just like...
00:04:30
Speaker
pretty solid, pretty good. Oh, that's a nice little preseason. No, he's dominating these games. He's scoring goals like no one's business and factored in all three of the goals today. He draws the penalty on the first one, a brace between the 83rd and the 90th minute at the very end to to win the game. Noah is Osazi de Rosario going to be just be in the starting 11 come the start of the regular season on February 21st. Like that's kind of what it's looking like to me. I mean, if they run this two man striker setup and Moose is not healthy, then absolutely. There's an opportunity there where he may be starting in this match. I have loved what I've seen so far from him. He he has been like such a standout. His his his continuous jumps from year to year.
00:05:17
Speaker
have been insane. They have gone from basically like... Very random prospect. Yeah, like random prospect who was not very good, genuinely, to one of the top scorers in Next Pro to now winning winning League's Cup and then...
00:05:34
Speaker
Now you are five goals in preseason. is the drawn panel I don't know if he's going to be like a written in pen starter all season or whatever, but he did right now this man has to play. He's got to play. He's got to play. I think he's definitely above Moose in my depth chart.
00:05:47
Speaker
Sure. I mean, I think he's above pretty much everyone on the depth chart right now with the, with the, ah with the camp he's had. Yeah. Like he's been playing out on the wing, but like even with that, I think Osazi has looked better. That was that was let's let's get into that, too, because with Osazi starting up top, it was Jordan on the left wing.

Tactical Insights and Player Roles

00:06:03
Speaker
And we've we've talked quite a lot about how that actually plays and how that functions and whether it's kind of the classic 4231. I see it at times as more of the 3-5-2 with the dual strikers. I think ah really Nico and I were going back and forth about this on kickoff because he was saying that he sees it more as the 4-2-3-1. I was saying I see it more as the 3-5-2. I think the reality is it's a bit of a, it's kind of a hybrid. It's a morphing sort of formation and you're going to see Jordan Morris sort of play a hybrid role. and doing both things but what it looked like to me and and i don't know if you saw this the same way but what looked like to me is that he was he was staying out wide a lot more in this game and specifically it looked like they were really putting an emphasis on he him and knew who like knew who playing him over the top or with these like through balls out wide and they hit on a couple of those but to me it looked a lot more for the most part like pure Jordan winger of like circa 2016 to 2019 or whatever when he was doing that. There's a lot more of that today. But then there was also some of those instances to where he would float centrally or there was at least one sequence I can think of where he was on the total like he's on the right channel instead of so he he's floating around. He's doing a lot of different things out there. And I think that's going to be a cool thing to kind of track is exactly how it plays. But the sort of the combo of him and Osase is looking very nice right now. And I thought Jordan, he had a lot more of those kind of classic winger plays today where he's just kind of wreaking havoc on the flank, trying to send in crosses and not so much staying, staying closer to Osase and playing off them. So I mean, I don't know. It's hard to say. We don't know if that was just like a point of emphasis just for this scrimmage or if it's going to look different once they actually... It's a preseason consistent.
00:07:46
Speaker
I think so. But like, ah I mean, Jordan being listed out wide, but I thought they played it. that To me, at least in the first half of this game, it looked more like the 4-2-3-1 to me overall than the sort of kind of shades of 3-5-2 that we've been seeing at times. But like, I think that...
00:08:03
Speaker
it It just kind of it means they could have a more varied attack. They can sort of hurt you in different ways. Deploy Jordan in different ways. And I'm I'm mostly for me right now. I'm just curious to see Osaze can carry this into the regular season because watching him today we were right down on the sideline, right? Like i'm I'm so used to the broadcast view or the press box view and getting kind of an elevated look. But being right back, right on the sideline where you can really get close to them while they're running and you hear everything they're saying and stuff. But seeing Osaze from that view and the runs he was making at those center backs, I was thinking to myself, I was like, man, unless you've got some CBs that are hella fast and hella athletic,
00:08:43
Speaker
I think you're going have a hard time stopping this

Defensive Concerns and Offensive Highlights

00:08:45
Speaker
guy like that. We haven't seen any preseason evidence yet that, uh, we haven't seen anyone stop him yet. He's, he's dominating these games. So it's, that is an exciting thing. I did think it was funny too. So Osase draws the PK that ah Albert Rusnak ends up converting. It's 1-0 right at the end of the first half. And I was like, all right, like they pretty thoroughly outplayed this USL team in the first half. They're up 1-0. Osase is looking good. Just get it to halftime without blowing the lead. And everything will be everything will be chill. And then right as I was thinking that ah Louisville City has a corner kick that I'm pretty sure it was an own goal. He sends the corner kick in and it looked I couldn't tell who it was, but it looked like one of the guys on the Sounders hit an absolutely clinical far post header into his own goal. And I was like, oh my God, we are so back. Sounders season is so back. So back. So back lights out offensive performance, take the lead, give up the lead right before halftime. But in all seriousness, like, uh, another set piece goal conceded another set piece goal conceded. I am genuinely like, I know you shouldn't read too much into preseason. I'm a little concerned about the defense, but I love what I've, uh, what I've seen offensively all preseason, honestly. And the, the Osase development is just a very fun one. It's very, it's, did you expect this from him? I did not. I, I, In the best possible outcome scenario for his preseason, I would not have prognosticated this.
00:10:11
Speaker
No, and and I think that the even more interesting piece of this is I think my narrative around Danny Musabski and around the strikers in that position is that you can kind of slot anyone in there because there is so much talent around them. They're going to feed them.
00:10:29
Speaker
This is not the type of performance that he's having. He's having an individual performance where his holdup play is really good, but also his in behind runs are really good. And it's kind of this unique moment where I'm like, whoa, like,
00:10:45
Speaker
I didn't expect that, that's for sure. And two, he's doing he's doing it in a way that it's very clear his individual talent is shining. Yeah, yeah. let's break Let's break down the goals real quick because this was not streaming. So hope hopefully people will appreciate that kind of... insight we can get from watching it. But the the first goal, the opener, he draws the penalty kick on exactly what you were saying, like a run on in on a ball over the top where they just really, they can't stop them. They can't get the ball off of them. A goalkeeper comes off his line to try to stop them and absolutely trucks them. Yeah. just a cam chancellor straight to the to the sternum and gets the penalty called rusnak uh bams that in from the spot he did he smashed it off the crossbar made a really loud noise and i thought he missed it but no it went in we posted a video of that goal on our okay on our instagram one uh one zero at that point and uh they concede the equalizer just before halftime on
00:11:44
Speaker
on a corner kick that was put into the mixer and headed in by a Seattle Sounders player. I'm pretty sure. i'm pretty like Unless I saw that wrong, I'm pretty sure. not sure. It was too far away from It was a great finish. It was a clinical finish, but it was the Seattle Sounders scoring on their own goal. But then the first Osase goal that he actually scored, same idea. like He's just making a run in on a ball. or it was a give that one was a giveaway. That one was a giveaway. I'm pretty sure it was Jesus who played him in. So more good stuff from Jesus Ferreira. But it's just like when he's when he' is out and running like that and playing that bully ball, it's again hard to stop. And they had no chance of stopping him on that play. He actually, he had a couple runners that he could have played through for maybe an easier goal. And he was like, nah, screw that. I'm just going to. kick the shit out his it was ah It was a Pedro De La Vega. He would have been proud of the the velocity that Osase put on that thing. To the point, he kicked it so hard that when I saw it hit the goal, I was like, was that side netting?
00:12:46
Speaker
yeah oh no, that was in i was in that was in And at that point, It's like, okay, that felt like the exclamation point on this crazy preseason he's had. And then he scored again just for good measure right before the end. There was kind of a ball pinging around in the box, and he was able to get it. Off of an Albert kind of deflection him. Albert took a, was it an Albert set piece? or Albert was involved in that play. It was like Albert's shot caught deflected and kind of landed it yeah at El Sazé's feet, and he he tucked it away. Which is someone, by the way, that's a skill set that we do need.
00:13:20
Speaker
Absolutely. well that's what I was going to say is like, that's like, ah that's not the type of goal necessarily that we've seen him score repeatedly throughout this preseason, but still that's like a good number nines goal. That's what you want to see that those opportunistic instincts. So I guess like, why don't we just predict it? Like,
00:13:37
Speaker
Colorado Rapids season opener coming up in in just a few days. Do we think that Osaza is going to be in the starting 11? Because I don't see how you could not have him in there. I think he's got to, he's at least earned an opportunity to be there. It's a, you know, it's an early, it's, it's early in the season.
00:13:54
Speaker
Why not? Why not run him? ah Yeah. You got to at least see if he can carry this over and you never, you never know if he's going to do that, but yeah, The fact that we saw him do it pretty much every time in preseason, and I know it's not the competition that they're going be playing when the actual season starts, but Hammerby is not a bad side. That's a Swedish top flight side. Louisville City, USL championship side, but they're a good USL championship side. So just the fact that he has been able to perform with the level of consistency has, I think he's earned it is what I'm saying. I think he's earned it. I would honestly be disappointed if he's not starting. I would be disappointed. would be disappointed. Unless they're not going to run the scheme with two strikers or I guess Jordan on the wing, I guess.
00:14:42
Speaker
I don't know. I think that's sort of the question with it is I think Jordan has kind of seen himself as a number nine and he wants to be like the the lone striker up top in the 4-2-3-1 type player. don't know how much I like him on the wing. I got to be honest with you. I don't think this preseason has been kind to him playing out there.
00:15:00
Speaker
I thought it looked a lot better. I thought it looked lot better today. they they They at least generated more danger out of it today, I think, than they had in the previous games. I like i like it most, I

Hassani Dotson's Role and Team Synergy

00:15:11
Speaker
think, when they're obiducing it a little bit.
00:15:14
Speaker
But that's also... if If what we saw today is any indication, that's not, they're not going to run it like that, like like a classic 3-5-2 or 4-4-2 or whatever, like in the Obaduce days. It's not going to be like that on the lineup graphics, and I don't think it's going to play like that in practice, but... ah yeah I don't know. What else what else cuts your caught your eye today? Obviously, Osazi is the biggest standout. Hassani. I've been continuously impressed by Hassani Dotson.
00:15:43
Speaker
Slotting into the Obed Vargas role. I think he is insanely good, man. His touch is incredible. His ability to kind of move out of that pressure like Obed. Obviously, it's not exactly the same, but he does have a lot of that same that same game.
00:16:00
Speaker
And secondarily, like I think his vision is so good. he he is a really good replacement. He is a really good replacement, and i mean, he's going to start.
00:16:13
Speaker
Like, yeah, no doubt about that. And I'm excited about it. And I think he's going really good season. I think he will he looked good today. He was in the double pivot with Snyder B. And center b looked I continue. I continue. He did make that mistake on that goal. The goal, that yeah the own goal or goal. I'm not sure who scored it. I didn't see it, but it was his mistake.
00:16:33
Speaker
Yes, and Schmetz talked about that in his little post-game presser. i you know i can live with that from ah from a young player, especially during preseason. There are probably going to be some moments like that this year. if he if he gets enough minutes, there's probably going to be some moments like that this year. With a young player, you kind of have to live with it. But other other than that other than that, I just found myself being like...
00:16:56
Speaker
God, I think my agenda, my stock there is hidden. He's so smooth. And he's got... ah He's got a little bit of that Obed in him.
00:17:06
Speaker
ah You know, I don't want to put that on MSA's the next Obed or whatever, but he's got that Obed in him as far as his ability. Like when he's on the ball and there's guys around him and he's in in traffic, his ability to kind of weave his way out of it, keep possession, and then be proactive, go get his head up going forward, picking out runners and stuff. it' He can do that stuff at an Obed-esque level.
00:17:27
Speaker
rate and he's got his own kind of style to his own game and he almost scored a goal in this game he got really close he he lined one up from just outside the top of the box and it got it took like just a tiny nick off the defender i think right before it could get on target and it was only just a little wide but if that didn't get take the deflection that he probably has a goal today in addition to another really good performance so I i saw nothing all preseason, but especially today that diminished my Snyder B stock. I think he's he's in for a big year as well. So I think it's just good to see Dotson. Like you said, i think this was his best preseason game so far for sure. And then also just him, how he and Snyder were, you can tell they're kind of learning how each other play and how they fit into the, to the collective yeah and all that.
00:18:20
Speaker
And It looked much better today than I think it did at any point in Marbella. You'd be able to speak to that more than me, but that was my read on it watching the game today. No, I agree with you. I agree with you. Another thing to note is that Christian was out today.
00:18:37
Speaker
with sore achilles so which that's just you know schmetz was very uh very he's saying it's precautionary it's not like a big deal but we just didn't want to but i think anytime anytime i hear the word achilles i'm like yeah wait a minute Wait a minute. But I think that goes to say that we we might be seeing Snyder. We might be seeing more Snyder.
00:19:01
Speaker
Snyder B. If if if that soreness continues into the first first game of the season. Get ready to learn the Hassani Dotson Snyder B double pivot, folks. How do you feel about that possibility? Because i feel good about it in terms of just like their talent level and what we've seen in preseason. Doing it in an MLS game is a difference.
00:19:22
Speaker
it's a different beast, you know? So, and like as good as something can look in preseason and in practice, if you have never played in an MLS game with somebody before, there's probably going to be at least some sort of acclimation period. Like I, it is not, that is not going to function probably in all likelihood as it at as high a level as the Obed Christian double pivot that we got so used to last year. But ah if they have, if they have to run that in the, in the season opener, how would you feel about that?

Season Opener Expectations for Sounders

00:19:50
Speaker
I mean, it would not be ideal. Like, I want to get off to a good start, but it's also, it is the first game of the season, and getting reps is important, um especially if your focus is CONCACAF Champions Cup, which...
00:20:04
Speaker
I don't know if it is, but I would kind of, I would kind of not mind. They always say, they always say we're going to go for every tournament that we're in. We're going try and win every trophy. So ah yeah, I mean, we'll, we'll see, we'll see how that pans out. ah There was a couple of other good plays I thought in this game as well.
00:20:25
Speaker
ah ah See, like with the winger Jordan thing, Did you see that play where he almost hit Jesus for that? Like, that's the type of stuff that i want to see if they're running winger Jordan. There was a sequence where Jordan was isolated on the left flank. He was able to get around his defender, send the cross in. And honestly, I don't know how it wasn't a goal. Jesus had a wide open, completely free header, put it on target in the Louisville keeper.
00:20:53
Speaker
He was just, he was just standing. Yeah, he made a good save. But in terms of the types of chance generation that you want to see, I thought that was a good example of it. And hopefully that's not a sign of more of a snake bite theme for Jesus Ferreira. feel like that kind of thing happened to him a lot last year, but I think they're going to start going in. it doesn't It doesn't seem like that. And I think to the Jordan point,
00:21:19
Speaker
I think he's also just getting back acclimated to that position. Like that's not what he was playing. Yeah. You know, that's, it's a new, it's a new position. It's a new look for him. And for all we know, he might still play that target nine. Like,
00:21:35
Speaker
It's just could the Rapids game could get here and they run out there and it's the 4-2-3-1 with Jordan up top. I don't think so, though. I don't. I think they're going to they're going to give us a chance. That's what like you're you're not going to start him in every preseason game and then have him be as dominant as he's been in camp and in all the preseason games and then be like, ah, now we're not we're we're not quite. quite ready to do that yet. No, no. Like you, the whole point of preseason and training camp is to have those spots get earned. There's literally, there's quite literally nothing more he could have done to earn, earn a start, at least at the start of season. And then if it doesn't translate and you're not scoring goals or whatever, it doesn't look good. Then you, then you take it from there. You can go back to your old four, two, three, one with Jordan up top. But I think you at least have to see what you have here because
00:22:25
Speaker
Who knows, honestly, like Osaze has outperformed our expectations by so much. Yeah. This camp, who knows what will happen once the, what's what that'll look like once the season starts. mean, is this a, this a 10 goal guy? Is a 15 goal guy? Is this a 2024 moose like pushing 20 goal guy, you know, know, but as much of a moose defender as I have been, Osaze is much more dynamic in terms of the runs he can make just has his athleticism, his pace. Uh,
00:22:56
Speaker
there's there's a lot more upside there than with a lot of the other options. So that's why it's worth finding out. And I think that is what they're going to do. And that is that's kind of a fun little storyline. If I told you before preseason, Noah, that Osaze de Rosario would look so good in camp and during the preseason games that they pretty much have zero choice but to start him and kind of push Jordan out wide or change their tactical outlook, like what would you have said? Would you have would you have even believed me? Like, I...
00:23:25
Speaker
I don't I did not think that that was going to happen. I didn't think it was going to happen. But, ah you know, I think his development has been solid. So it doesn't necessarily surprise me as much as it maybe other people like.
00:23:40
Speaker
I think he's just done so much individual work in the off season too. Like he's, he's really taking his opportunity and he's maximized his opportunity thus far. It's surprising in the sense of like, there is a real possibility that he's starting starting number nine for the Seattle Sounders, yeah but it's not surprising in the sense that like,
00:24:00
Speaker
That's kind of what the Sounders do, right? Like they, anyone at any time could be called up and be a starter on this team. I liked this question here from Eric. He says, with how well D-Row has played, should we have sold Moose?
00:24:13
Speaker
So I can understand like why people would, would go there and why they would think that my, my thought is like, yeah, like it would, ah if Osase is actually this good, then the idea of trading or selling Moose becomes a lot more palatable. I, I still think that,
00:24:32
Speaker
Being three deep, at especially at this position, you want to be three. You need to be, frankly, three or four deep to have a chance at winning trophies in MLS. There's always injuries. There's always fixture congestion. There's always international duty. You can think that you're three deep at a position and one injury piles on top of another injury and all of a sudden you are not deep at all.

Team Depth and Roster Flexibility

00:24:54
Speaker
Well, and if they move Jordan to the left, if they move him to the wing, there's effectively two strikers and instead of three. Right. But my, you know, my thought would be like if Osaze earns the, earns the job as the first choice starter, say there's a situation where he has to rotate out or he takes the knock and can't play my, like it would, it would seem to me that Jordan would be the theoretical, like next man up at the, at the nine in that, in that situation. So in a first choice, 11, 11,
00:25:25

they're on the field together, but if one or the other has to swap out for whatever reason, then the other one would be a second on the depth chart. And then you got moves. I like that depth chart, how it is like, honestly, cause I just think that ah you look at, you look at these rosters and these depth charts in preseason and you're like, oh man, there's so many guys there. You could sell this guy, this guy, and this guy, and you still would be super deep. And then the season actually starts and everyone gets injured and there's 14 games in 11 days and people can't play and all that. And you end up having to throw out these lineups that are just nothing at all like what you thought it was going to look like in preseason. So I guess I would rather spam depth, just have like way more than you think that you need.
00:26:07
Speaker
and that'll, that will pay off at some point during the season. There's going to be some point during the season, even if we think that Moose is like third on the nine depth chart now, even off the season he had last year, I i guarantee you there's going to be a lot of situations where he's, where he's going to have to play. So anyway, long way of saying that, uh,
00:26:26
Speaker
I do think that Osase's development does, does make moving him ah like an easier thing to wrap your mind around, but I don't think it's necessarily as great an idea as it sounds. And now we're back to the, did they sign a U22 striker Ari?

U22 Strategy and Player Development

00:26:44
Speaker
Now we're, we're just looping back to the same conversation.
00:26:47
Speaker
I mean, yet we like should they have sold Moose and signed the U-22 striker? No, I'm saying now you have Osase. Do you need to use that U-22 spot the striker? No, you use it on a guy from Charlotte SC that played has played most of his games for Crown Legacy FC. That's ah that's what you do. and all I mean, in all seriousness, we don't need to go too far off on that tangent. but like the more He's playing right now. I wish we could watch. but ah yeah i I see Paul out there. Second match is closed to media, so we're not watching that. But Noah's being sneaky.
00:27:19
Speaker
And someone asked who played in goal. Andrew Thomas played the whole first game, and now Stephen Fry is here in the second. So again, that's pretty much what we thought and what we expected. I see disc golfers asking about Petkovic. Really, the only...
00:27:37
Speaker
The only extended look I feel like I got at him was in the second game in Marbella against the Ukrainian team. And he was playing with Snyder. And honestly, man, like I don't really know what to make of that game. It looked like an absolute monsoon puddle situation. The second game the first one.
00:27:58
Speaker
The whatever one, i guess both of them, but whatever one. The second game wasn't terrible. The first game was awful. Either... I already exonerated Max anchor for the howler on the basis of that. Yeah. No, no the ma goalkeeper boxes were not Max anchor is exonerated. He's forgiven. That field was trash. He's not going to do that on a normal field. That's not a super muddy, but anyway, Petkovich,
00:28:20
Speaker
I thought the Petkovic-Snyder duo looked a little rough in that game, but it's also like, yeah, they werere playing on It's their first minutes ever. It's their literal first minutes together ever. Petkovic was little bit injured or something. On a mud thing. He might have been injured. I don't know. But I feel like that's that's one thing that we really have not gotten a better read on yeah over the preseason. But, I mean...
00:28:42
Speaker
That's just such that's such a flyer. yeah Who knows? But if he does end up earning minutes, i think it's a great. Listen, I think it's a great gamble because you're getting a guy who is highly rated and you're putting him in a system where he has an opportunity to be around good players and...
00:29:01
Speaker
it gives them a new look. Like, I don't know. it It seems like a really smart opportunity. I agree, but it is just funny that like the, the way that they did it, we we've talked so much about like, they need to make, they need to make a splash correct on the U22 needs to be this number nine yeah of the future. And then the way they actually filled the spot was like the most money ball way they could. But it see it is exactly the way that you wanted them to fill it. Cause you were explaining that. Yes. Listen, it's way better to take on a guy like Petkovic than take on a guy like Noah, Ohio.
00:29:31
Speaker
Because you're going to spend so much money to transfer in this guy who's an unknown necessity, who, by the way, is toiling away in the second team. So, no, Ohio, you didn't want to come here. We didn't want you anyway. Your namesake, man. He really screwed didn't want you anyway. Missed up. Missed up for Mr. Ohio. Yeah. And then secondarily, like, now you have a guy who...
00:29:51
Speaker
is on a loan on a really good deal, and you can buy them if you want. I think the whole idea of a u twenty two as a huge splash that's going to change the club and like get a player of the future, i think I just think that's a little misguided. That's not how...
00:30:07
Speaker
these signings have panned out for the most part in this league to this point, you have your outliers. You've got your day on yoga, which is you've got your Tokla moddies and those guys have been awesome in MLS, but like,
00:30:23
Speaker
I mean, can you name one one other U22 number nine that's been like impactful or good? I think those are the only two that I can think of. So it's just it's it's a very low percentage game. If you're going to do that, you've got to be like very, very, very sure that this guy is going to be a needle mover in MLS. And if you're not, then you're it's you're much better served to use it as a mechanism for for taking flyers. To me, that seems like how the smart teams...
00:30:48
Speaker
are doing it. yeah We'll find out. ah I think there, there could be something to the fact that Petkovich, he never really broke in at Charlotte. And it seems like he just never was able to gain favor there.

Petkovich's Fit and Contributions

00:31:00
Speaker
yeah But you know, the, the, the notion of we're going bring him,
00:31:04
Speaker
into our team in this new environment, this new ecosystem, playing with all these really good players. Maybe that elevates him back into the pedigree of the two, $3 million dollar player that Charlotte FC played for. And then if it does, you clean now. Yeah, exactly. uh,
00:31:20
Speaker
My other question about him is more of like the stylistic aspect though. right he's he's a little bit of a different He's a little bit of a different mold than the players that they usually play at that position. But if he if he shows that he can be effective in whatever with whatever his skill set is, then like they're they're not going to not give him minutes or not give him a role. He just has to earn it.
00:31:42
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, it's... I literally don't have anything to add to that. Like, I completely agree. it's pretty transparent. I think it is. This is an interesting question. Why is Brian still against playing Georgie, even though every time he does makes a difference? I mean, i think that...
00:31:58
Speaker
can i Can I be honest? I see his role maybe differently than a lot of fans. like well we've we've we've I think we've discussed this exact question before and you you've kind of laid out why you think that is. yeah i just think he's an elite super sub.
00:32:13
Speaker
I really do. I think he is so elite at at that specific thing and that's doing exactly that that yes, he he is impactful so heavily in those moments and I think the club sees that as well.
00:32:27
Speaker
Why not just... develop him there and then eventually you can you can you could change that if he's just producing like crazy but he's still young and he's still mean maybe not young but he's he's still developing and I don't know it's hard for me to say like if you do you like I genuinely do people think if you just started him he's scoring 20 goals or having 20 having a 10 and 10 season No, I think the argument is more just that there are there are all these very there there impressive underlying numbers that there are examples of like other players who have put up similar metrics as him. He's not, you know, Messi wishes he was Georgie. But I think the argument, as I understand it, is more like you need to give him the minutes to find out if he's that type of player who can be a super... like the The metrics suggest that this should be like a pretty high-volume assist guy. like like that you don't You don't know if that's going to actually happen, though, until you give him the minutes to find out. But I think the other thing, and you've mentioned this before, but like if you think about the type of...
00:33:35
Speaker
winger that brian schmetzer has kind of put to the forefront of what what he likes to start and in this incarnation in this system of schmetzer ball it's it's guys like paul rothrock it's guys like jesus ferreira just different guys than than georgie georgie doesn't have necessarily as refined of those attributes that that they have i think that's that's part of it i don't i don't know if it's that he's like bad defensively i think he's bad i think it's not saying he well he's not a He's not good. Jesus Pereira and Paul Rothrock are elite our elite defensive wingers. Yeah, exactly. And Georgie is not not that yet. Does he need to be an elite defensive winger to be a starter for Schmetzer? I don't know. But like if if you're wondering the reasons why he's found not a full load of minutes to this point, I think that has something to do with it. He he is not... ah
00:34:27
Speaker
He's just not, he's not Paul Rothrock or Jesus Ferrer. He's a different type of player and Schmetzer favors the other type of players. That makes sense. Correct. Yeah. Correct. I think also this brings up the question, should they have sold him?
00:34:41
Speaker
Hammer Bay, Hammer B, Hammer B, Hammer Bay, Hammer B offered million euros for the player, which the Sounders basically were like, yeah, no, we're good on that.
00:34:56
Speaker
he's worth more than that to us. Hammerby fans are in my my mentions like, just let him go. He wants to leave. I'm like, it's not really that situation. It's a situation where the player would go if the transfer was approved.
00:35:08
Speaker
But the situation is, he is worth more than that in the market, I think one, but two,

Potential Transfers and Market Value

00:35:15
Speaker
even as a substitute on the wage that he's on in MLS, he's like a cheat code. Like why would they, they're not going to trade him away just to get him off the roster. It's not worth that. A million dollars is just not enough. It's not enough. They're not even going to see that money this year either. If you want to come back with three to $5 million, dollars we can talk, but yeah like for a million dollars, no way, because just because of what we just talked about, the upside that we don't know if he's going to achieve yet. And not even just that, his the number that he's on is low enough. It's great value. Yeah, like your value is good for what he's performing, even if he is just a super sub role. 100%. But there...
00:35:55
Speaker
but also there he stands to get a lot more valuable if he is as good as ah as some think he is or as the metrics suggest he is. And if he shows that it makes way more sense to keep him and see if he shows that and you can pump that value up probably closer to like the three to five of that I was talking about. But i you don't I don't really know how much you gain from just getting them off the books for a million dollars. Yeah, it's like that's a bad. That would be bad. deal I would not be supportive of that. Like, it would be great for, maybe it would be great for Georgie's career, but like... If he really, really wanted it. but Yeah, but like, even so, like, you've got to kind of think of a... You've got to kind of think about... Yeah, it's... Think about us. Think about us. I think it's a bit of ah a... You could call it a make or break year for Georgie in terms of like, if he really becomes a regular integral contributor to the first team.
00:36:55
Speaker
We'll see if he gets the chances, but I mean, I think he will, man. I think he will. Again, it's one of those things where you look at the depth chart right now and you're like, he's buried. Where the minutes going to come from? They're going to be there. They're going to be there. They have 27 tournaments, 74 games. Like...
00:37:12
Speaker
It's there. Everyone has to play. Everyone has to play in this league. Yeah. Anything else from, from the scrimmage today that caught your eye? Andrew Thomas made a nice save at one point. A couple good saves. I think a couple of good saves. Yep. Yeah. He had the one that he had the reaction save in the first half. And then there was one in the second half where there was two in the second half that I think were pretty good. He had the one up at the top corner. Yeah. Yeah. yeah and The tip.
00:37:37
Speaker
But so I think that is we all kind of figured that that was the situation at goalkeeper that Andrew Thomas would be the starter. But again, this, this confirms that there he is on the cover of the new sounder at heart magazine, by the way, called four.
00:37:52
Speaker
Pick up your copy today. SandraHard.com. Andrew Thomas. Shout out. um like It's really cool. He's on the cover. They have these all over Long Acres right now. but Print media, folks. We're bringing it back.
00:38:04
Speaker
We're bringing it back. We got the newspaper coming up next. We actually just bought a printing press. We invented the printing press. we got a From live stream to printing press. Crossword puzzle in there if you're a crossword puzzle person. so Photos that I took of Andy.
00:38:19
Speaker
and Oh, show people will show the people your... these photography skills see that no one's taking photo yeah there you go uh cbs survive without incident yeah they did yeah that was good to see who was okay here's a good here's a good insight knew who was absolutely demolishing the usl championship striker dude he was in his head so bad that when he got subbed off he was so mentally defeated it was hilarious he was like pointing every time where he was going to go. And then he would like go the other way. Cause he saw new who was pointing that he was going to go that way. And then knew he would just like take a step and bully him. It was awesome. Watching USL defenders try to deal with new who was pretty funny. Yeah. Especially he, he had a couple of those sequences where he was running forward and he got the arms pumping.
00:39:03
Speaker
And every time there's teams that have never played him before, the first time they see the arm pump, I feel like they're like, what Yeah, they don't know what that is. Why is he doing that? But it's like it's new. You're going have to deal with that all game. But no, I mean, I actually I thought knew who.
00:39:18
Speaker
did didn't it look like to you that they were kind of spamming the new who to Jordan thing? Yeah, they were a little bit. Like, I think there might've been, it's just theorizing something. I think there might've been like a, Hey, like we want to we want you guys to drill this. So anytime you see an opportunity to just hit them over the top, just send them in and see what happens. ah It felt like they were, they were doing that. And there was a couple new who hit a couple nice, nice balls. He had a,
00:39:42
Speaker
a through ball kind of thing at one point that Jordan ran onto that created a kind of dangerous sequence. And then he hit like several, like a handful over the top. I think they were, I think they were like really working on that. Like knew who hit it over the top, let Jordan run onto it on the left side, get that kind of left-sided,
00:39:58
Speaker
attack thing working and again in general there was a lot more I think than the first two preseason games of Jordan making runs in the wide channel running onto a ball over the top mostly from new who and then you know cutting inside trying to trying to make a run towards the box putting across in winger stuff you know so Eric says, do we really want to see new who in the attack for goal contributions last year? Okay. It's a career high. It's a, it's not really, do we want to, it's, are we going to, and I think we are going to, yes
00:40:34
Speaker
Well, and these aren't like, ah I feel like when new gets frustrating in the attack, it's when he's just bamming forward. He also shout out Mark Kastner once pointed out that at least once or twice a game when the Sounders have a goal kick knew who just runs a go route that has never, he has never once been given the ball correct in that situation. yeah and He had a really, really good one of those in this game. Because, you know, we being down by the field, you can hear them yelling. He's screaming for the ball. It's like, no, they're not. He's not going to hit that to you. But it was it was less of like bombing forward with abandon like we see sometimes. yeah And it was hanging back, but then trying to find Jordan over the top or yeah were with the through ball. To me, that's what it looked like they were doing a lot more of in this game.
00:41:20
Speaker
ah Yeah. Yeah. I think that's it. I think we're good. I think that's a quick turn. do you have anything else? Not about this game specifically last preseason game before the actual season starts. So that's yeah exciting. But ah yeah, no, I mean, I'm down to keep it a a short one. We just wanted to get this out there and ah you know, we knew they weren't streaming it. So want to tell you guys what we saw. ah If you were wondering if the Osase de rier Rosario train was slowing down, It's not. It's speeding up, It's speeding up. Isn't it crazy to think about? I think that was his best game like of the preseason so far. and Yeah, he looked the most dominant. He's been insane. Runeiko just reported RBW to Nashville. He was just here. yeah he was just downstairs on the phone. that ah that is I can confirm i can confirm can confirm that.
00:42:08
Speaker
RBW is off to Nashville SC. Is this a transfer? or I think it's a trade. I'm not sure. I don't I have nothing on the price. I just know that that's happening. And so, like well, there we go. We can't end the show now. We can't end the show now. I don't know what say there. don't know what to say that. didn't think it was going to go public while we were streaming out here. But but why don't we why don't we talk about that to ah to close it out here? Does that sound good? Yeah, go for it. ah Well, I kind of want to know what you think because you've been the RBW guy. But i'll get I'll get my take, which is that...
00:42:43
Speaker
ah It's surprising on one hand, like if I had to pick a trade candidate or a transfer candidate during the preseason, that wouldn't have been on my list. But it does it does feel like he he never, Schmetz loves RBW. It's like his second son. yeah But he's still, he because of injuries and because I think of the depth chart at times or whatever, he was just not, it felt like he was never getting consistent run, consistent minutes here. And also the position,
00:43:11
Speaker
thing What is he? is he a Is he a holding mid? Is he a left back? Is he a left winger? That was also something that I felt like was never getting figured out on this team, or at least it had yet to be up until now. And i wouldn't be surprised if RBW himself wasn't like, can guys, can I go somewhere where...
00:43:31
Speaker
I'll get to play more and i'll also have like a set position and I can kind of actually get my career going more than I've been able to here. Maybe, maybe Nashville just wanted him really bad in Seattle. Just couldn't, they couldn't get Paul Rothrock. So they got, you but ah I guess I just hope, I guess I just hope for him that he,
00:43:51
Speaker
they give him They give him a real chance. They give him run and they give him position. That's like the biggest thing with RBW. I would call him a left back right now, but is he a left back? Is that his best position? Is that what he's going to be throughout his career? We still don't know that.
00:44:06
Speaker
So when you total all that together, I guess I'm not that... it makes sense why perhaps he would feel like he wants a change of scenery or maybe the team felt like he needs, we need to give him one for him to get his career to where he wants to go. i mean, I think that's, that's good. If he's excited about it, I'm excited about it. I mean, that's,
00:44:27
Speaker
I don't know. I've just, I really like him as a prospect. So it just really, yeah it's like, it is a clogged up space. So if he's getting more time, i mean, it's good for the player. It's good for the Sounders.
00:44:39
Speaker
He at one point was the highest rated out of all these homegrowns. like i guess He's going to be the guy who you let go and goes and he cooks. Like, it's just, I like, I have this feeling in my bones. think you're right. I'm like, I think you're right.
00:44:52
Speaker
I'm just like, this is a guy, this this this was a guy that when he was like 15, 16 years old, you saw these reports. Manchester United scouts were at the Sounders game today. Liverpool scouts were at the Sounders game today. They're looking at RBW. He's getting called into all these youth national teams. He was considered like in a very in up and coming ah US youth national team player and all that stuff. Like he had that pedigree and it just, it never, it hasn't taken off in MLS to this point. I think most, a lot for lack of opportunity.
00:45:24
Speaker
Yeah, exactly. So i get I just hope he gets that gets that opportunity. Andrew's point here, like I wish we could loan to USL more. it's He's too good for USL. Like, oh, my God, like that's that's not helpful for his development. That's not helpful for anyone. Like, it's just ah that's just like not helpful. I don't think for anyone. man i'm I'm kind of devastated. I know. I'm like texting sources and like, tell me this isn't true. man, it's real. It's real. It's going down. Dude, RBW, RBW. Got to get the new Nashville jersey.
00:45:59
Speaker
It's really ugly. You should get a RBW Nashville jersey. I'll buy it right now. I'll buy it right now. Hopefully, i I'm rooting. Lobbingscorchers.com slash kit. Buy yourself an RBW Nashville kit. I'm i'm rooting for... art like Honestly, if there was a RBW revenge game where Seattle's playing Nashville and he just totally cooks and bams on the Sounders, I would support that.
00:46:21
Speaker
I'd be like, hell yeah, RBW. talk your shit like because um i would imagine there's probably an element of that he feels like he didn't really get like the shake yeah i mean he did he didn't he didn't and we and we don't really know how much of that is due to uh you know maybe his training performance wasn't what the coaches wanted or whatever or maybe he was just buried on the depth chart whatever whatever the case may be
00:46:54
Speaker
felt like It felt like he was not getting a shake around here. And i just hope that the... like ah Because remember, this is what I was talking about with someone today. Hendoal LeBona.
00:47:04
Speaker
Yeah. Shout out. Remember him? Same thing. Wasn't really getting minutes here at one time. A pretty highly rated prospect. You can't even get custom Baker Whiting jersey because there's not enough characters. Jesus Christ. What do we do in MLS store? I'm sorry. This is while Abwana was in the same situation going from Seattle to Nashville with the idea of launching his career and actually getting minutes. And then they just never gave him any minutes at all. And I don't even think he plays pro soccer anymore. don't know.
00:47:35
Speaker
why that was but i just i hope there's not a repeat scenario with rbw and i mean i don't think there there uh there will be rbw is a much higher higher rated higher pedigree prospect and player than wallabuana ever was although and wallabuana did have the better name so baker running's pretty fired it is they're both kind of fire now kind of maybe that's what nashville sc is they're cause they're target farming they're or theyre They're name farming because they went after Rothrock too, which is also a cool name. so
00:48:06
Speaker
this is this is devastating day This is a devastating end to ah to a to a quality day. um I guess I'll put it here. He looked good against Atletico. He looked good. like they're getting They're getting a good player. He's going to be hopefully playing more. Do you know anything about that roster?
00:48:25
Speaker
ah Which one? na Nashville? Yeah. Yeah, I do. Where would he fit in there? Do you think he's coming in to play? or I think, just thinking about it right now, I think he's going there to play as a winger.

Youth Development and Future Prospects

00:48:39
Speaker
As a winger? Yeah, because that is a place on the depth chart that they needed help. That's why they targeted Paul Rothrock. They end up getting Christian Espinosa, but they still need, i think...
00:48:51
Speaker
They probably still need bodies there outside of Christian Espinoza because the the whole thing with them is they have Haney Mukhtar, hella good. They have Sam Surridge, hella good. What else do they have? Not all that much. Now RBW. Well, now Espinoza. Espinoza. Assuming relative full health for Espinoza, Mukhtar, and Suraj, I think Espinoza could be the piece that sort of unlocks their their attack and takes it to the next level. I'm grieving. I'm sorry. No, I mean, it's it's your guy. It's your guy. that's ah It's a bombshell.
00:49:24
Speaker
I guess it's kind of fortuitous that it got announced while we were streaming so could live react, but... I think, I think that they're probably going to play him on. Never own the sounders. Stop talking about this. Oh my God. You're clogging up chat with wanting new ownership. Paul Allen was not an owner.
00:49:42
Speaker
They said, did I just see no ambition since Paul Allen died? Yes. Yeah. Yeah. Brother, come on. Lock in. Lock in. we're talking about We're talking about real ambition here. Which is Reed Baker Whiting's prospects at Nashville SC. So I don't really know. Oh, yeah. They have Long Island Messi, Alex Moyle.
00:49:59
Speaker
Exactly. Which is like. Sure. Cool, dude. Cool. Yeah. um I don't really know about their left back situation. Do you dude think he's a left back? I think he's probably a better winger, but i don't know, man. I think he can be whatever he wants to be. I like i see what you mean about the... like i just I do think he has defensive capabilities. It's like... It's like...
00:50:25
Speaker
I'm interested to see where they play him now. Yeah. I don't think he would have consistently played it left back if he, if there wasn't something they were seeing there. I just see his skills. Like he is, i don't think he's bad at at defense. Like he's not yeah terrible, but he is,
00:50:42
Speaker
To me, his selling point is how good yeah of an attacker he is. That was sort the the whole kind of idea between the RBW left back thing, I think, was if we can just get him playing MLS league average defensively and we let him cook an attack, like we could have a pretty crazy dynamic kind of new wrinkle with that, which sounded like a lot of fun.
00:51:05
Speaker
it just never really panned out. But it's also it's Someone banned the Paul Allen guy. I'm tired of him. Someone banned Paul Allen guy, bro. No one cares about you. Stop stop stop talking about ownership. We're talking about something important here, dude. No one cares about Paul. We're talking about practice. We're talking about Reed Baker Whiting and Nashville SC, okay? Yeah, Paul Allen didn't own the team. he was They were...
00:51:30
Speaker
There was an operational ownership agree agreement, whatever. You don't understand. Doesn't matter. Quick Google search told you that. I'm ignoring the Paul It's tilting me. I'm ignoring the Paul Allen discourse. I'm crashing out because of my Reed Baker Whiting transfer. I'm crashing out. Ignore Paul Allen.
00:51:50
Speaker
Grieve for... the reed baker or wedding departure from the Seattle Sounders to Nashville SC. I'm curious to see what they got for him. I mean, it's a cash for from what Jeremiah is recording. Okay. We haven't even talked about this angle of it.

RBW was on a U 22. Was he not? Yeah. opened up a spot. There's another new U 22 spot. There's the new U 22 spot. All right. Okay. So who are we signing in in our U 22 spot? Oh God. I'm actually pissed that now we have to do a whole U 22 discourse again.
00:52:22
Speaker
i I thought we were done with this. We didn just finished the U 22 discourse. They made a blockbuster Dude, there's going to be 20 more YouTube videos we have to make about this. This is actually a disaster. I don't support this trade. Someone call the league office. but We got to cancel voice this trade. I can't deal with the U22 spot being open again. i need to call.
00:52:44
Speaker
i need to call. what What should they do? What should they do dawn with the U22 spot? Don, kill the deal. Don, kill the deal. Who is this? You know who this is.
00:52:56
Speaker
Oh, oh so you so you could take me out to dinner and a couple of drinks and we go home and you don't save my number? Don, lose. Just, you know what? Don, lose this number. Can we ask him if we can up the bribery rate? Okay. all right. That's fine. U22 spot open. Really not looking forward to talking about that, but we're going to have to.
00:53:20
Speaker
um we have two U22s. Well, 2-2-2, which are angel numbers. Yeah. And angel numbers mean that we're blessed.
00:53:33
Speaker
There we go. There we go. Two open U22. Isn't there some... I always lose track of when you have this many DPs, you're allowed this many You're going to have four U22s with two DPs or three with three or something like that. I don't remember exactly what it is. U is not going to take up that spot. You just signed contract. Actually, I don't mind them using the spots on homegrowns. I don't. Sue me.
00:54:02
Speaker
Suby, I think that's fine. It's roster hack. It's a roster hack. I think it was fine when they did it with RBW. I think if you're the type of team that's ah good at youth development like Seattle is, it's a double hack yeah because you can just turn these guys out. And then what is it? Like two hundred and twenty k against the...
00:54:19
Speaker
cap or or whatever, but you theoretically have these guys that ah have all this upside and potential. So I don't know. I think that like they famously didn't do that with Obed when they should have. Yeah. But the fact that they did it with RBW when they did it with RBW, I was like, see, okay, that that's a good idea. That's how you do Now we'll see what the fee is, but that's essentially cashing in on youth development, which I think we can kind of wholly loop this whole thing in and say,
00:54:46
Speaker
the first big lot of Sounders youth players are being developed and sold and they're solid and they're going for cap whatever you want to think about the Obed transfer. like they're They're going for good fees and they're moving on. He went to Atletico Madrid. Put the fee aside. He went to Atletico Madrid. sold a homegrown player players and sold him to Atletico Madrid. yeah That's huge no matter what the fee was.
00:55:14
Speaker
so But it is like... we've but We've been talking about these these prospects and this youth system for so long, and but mostly through the lens of like when are they going to get through to the first team correct and like contribute to the Sounders. But this this is another... like If you get really good at this...
00:55:33
Speaker
it's one of the biggest roster hacks that you can possibly have really. And, I think in that way, like the Obed transfer, it wasn't for the biggest bag of all time, but it's still, it could be it could be, it could be for a huge bag. And it's also like,
00:55:51
Speaker
Proof of concept, I guess, is what i yeah is what I'm talking about. yeah like That's the type of tier, type of club that you can get on if you if you develop these players well. But then, so even for a less high-stakes situation like this, where it's RBW going to intra an intra-MLS move to Nashville SC, yeah i don't I have not seen or heard anything on what the bag is. But, I mean, you got to think it's like...
00:56:19
Speaker
over Should I just call over a million dollars? Should just get Nico in here? Yeah, I don't know. I don't know. Chat, if anyone has the terms of the ah RBW trade, drop them in because we haven't seen them yet. We just found out that it went official while we were doing this show. But either way, I would be surprised i'd be surprised if it's not like at least like 1 or 1.5, don't you think? like Got to be something close to that. I mean, it's it's a cash for trade. Yeah.
00:56:51
Speaker
and Cash for player trade. I like i don't see any way that it makes sense to that it would make sense to do a deal for a player like that for less than that. ah It'd be fire if they got more.
00:57:02
Speaker
But yeah if i if i was if I was guessing, I would say like 1-5. Hopefully more like 2. two But regardless, I think if you if you get a million dollar bag for rbw that's pretty good and that's the type of stuff that you can do when you have when you develop these players like this but it is it is sad because this was a very it's a pro rbw show yeah and uh specifically noah was a big rbw guy so uh it is i will continue to be a big rbw guy We're going to be following the RBW. I have so many subscriptions now. i got I've got ah the one for Liga Amekis to watch Danny Leyva, which there's going to be an exclusive interview with Danny Leyva dropping on the channel here soon.
00:57:52
Speaker
I've got yeah ESPN Plus to watch Obed. I've got MLS. and like there's we're just What did you have to subscribe do to watch and to hate watch the Scottish Prim? ah I didn't subscribe to anything. i borrow i borrowed i borrowed borrowed i borrowed a stream. um I borrowed a stream to do that. Such lack of respect for the Scottish Prem that you won't even... think I would give them money? to the You know what's awesome? I walked in here today to Long Acres and guess what was on the TV?
00:58:21
Speaker
Scottish Prem. hearts versus uh rangers that that's your that's your thing what was your what's your oh uh rick ramsey isn't that your other oh yeah i've been hate watching no no i i also don't respect enough borrowed yeah i borrowed the stream he's doing incredibly poorly so that's pretty that's a boon for us yeah not for what team is he on west west brom yes west brom tough for them yeah they haven't won they haven't won a game since he's been in charge how many games in Over five. Let's see.
00:58:52
Speaker
This is great. We got to find out the combined record of Wilfred Nancy. Zero wins. Rick. or one No, no, no. ah He got one win. I think Wilfred got one. They're like, they're combined like one win, 12 losses.
00:59:07
Speaker
yeah There's a lot of draws. There's a lot of draws for, well, of course there is for Rick. crazy And yeah. Yeah. It's like, like, it's a lot of nil-nil, one-nil draws. So it's tough.
00:59:22
Speaker
But yeah, see, hasn't won a game. It's funny because we were, i like, I thought he was going to cook Over there, like with his troll, with his troll ball, like the league is like the there the there's made so much sense to go get 20th and they're two points off relegation.
00:59:39
Speaker
Oh damn. Lester's about to get relegated. That's tough. Uh, yeah, they're not doing well. Minus 15 goal differential. We don't need to talk about this. We don't need to talk about Rick Rams. What an eventful day. Man, this turned into way longer of a stream than... We had RBW trade reaction. I just saw him.
00:59:59
Speaker
I just saw him. He was here. Yeah. Maybe we'll go try and find him after this. We'll go try and find him. Yeah. ah But yeah, I mean, I think we can wrap it up right there. We're pulling up on yeah on an hour and we got, all I think we got all our info and takes about the game and we got our trade reaction in. So yeah, yeah we're going to call it right there, folks.
