Star Wars and Everyday Life Reflection

00:00:10
Speaker
Welcome back to the Star Wars cleaning crew. And today, believe it or not, friends, this is the 20th episode of the Star Wars cleaning crew. So hopefully you have at least 20 clean kitchens that you can look back on and think, hey, you know what?
00:00:30
Speaker
This kitchen is really clean. And while I was cleaning it, I was really getting into some Star Wars stuff, listening to Bob, listening to some cool guests. Or maybe you weren't cleaning your kitchen. Maybe you were mowing your lawn or any other tasks that you have in front of you. Maybe you were heading down to Tashi Station to pick up some power converters. Whatever it is, I hope that our little Star Wars cleaning crew show here helps you make use of 15 minutes and make it a little more enjoyable.

Recap and Upcoming Topics Preview

00:01:00
Speaker
today it is just you and me and all of our friends and our kitchens as we set about with some some updates just kind of some star wars news and i touched on a couple of things really quickly last week that i wanted to go back into more detail on and then i wanted to share with you
00:01:18
Speaker
a couple more things that we haven't really talked about so much.

D23 Convention Insights and Frustrations

00:01:21
Speaker
So that's new. So let's start with a little bit of the recap and we will start with the D23 convention from last weekend. Now D23, if you're not familiar with it, it is basically the Disney version of Comic Con.
00:01:40
Speaker
It's a big convention. They do it in Anaheim every other year. Now, here's the really sad thing is I usually go to D23. This year, I couldn't get tickets. I was so absolutely frustrated, but I felt a little bit better knowing that I would be able to watch the big keynote addresses from home.
00:02:05
Speaker
But then as it turned out, Disney decided they weren't going to stream these things after all. And so what I did was for the entertainment showcase, I basically just kind of kept my eye on the Twitter feed as it was going on, saw what people were posting.
00:02:21
Speaker
And then I went back a little bit later for a couple of different things and saw some bootleg presentations, people who were filming who shouldn't have been, but I watched them. I would love to link you all to them, but they have since disappeared from the internet. So that was the deal with that. For the parks panel, I actually saw that live. Again, it was a bootleg. It was a a vlogger who probably shouldn't have been doing it, but he was vlogging live.
00:02:49
Speaker
and I was able to watch it while it happened. So anyway, lest this completely become a Disney podcast, which I think some of you who have listened the last few weeks might be thinking it is, okay, it's not. It's a Star Wars podcast. Let's talk about Star Wars and let's talk about the Star Wars things that they unveiled in the order which we will receive them in.

'Star Wars: Skeleton Crew' Series Overview

00:03:13
Speaker
Okay, so let's start off with Skeleton Crew. Star Wars Skeleton Crew is the next series coming out on Disney+. plus I talked about this last week. I think I said last week that it starts on December 9th. I had that date wrong
00:03:29
Speaker
it's actually December 3rd. So the first two episodes of this will be available on December 3rd and then in the weeks following. So it'll be kind of a fun holiday thing for those of us who are are chilling out and celebrating at the end of the year, excited about that.
00:03:46
Speaker
Skeleton Crew is a story of four kids, pre-teenagers, young teenagers who kind of stumble upon a secret. They live in the Star Wars universe, obviously. They stumble upon a secret and they kind of get thrust into the adventure of their lifetime.
00:04:06
Speaker
It's been likened to kind of the classic 1980s movies, like or 19 days Amblin movies, the Spielberg movies. So things like The Goonies or E.T., any of those kids on bikes movies, Voyagers was one of those. ah You remember those from the 80s and you probably have a lot of fondness for them as I do.
00:04:27
Speaker
I actually watched the trailer for this and this is something that you can watch now. So if you go to YouTube but and Google skeleton crew trailer, make sure it's the official Disney one because fans like to make their own trailers. so You can watch the first trailer for it. I watched this trailer and here, here were my reactions. The first reaction.
00:04:50
Speaker
I did bring this up last week was at the beginning of the trailer, they are showing that at least the first part of the show is set kind of in the Star Wars suburbs. So I saw another vlogger recently talk about the fact that usually in Star Wars, we see either Kind of the, you know, the, the, the not so nice areas like Tatooine, you know, maybe a little rundown, a little junky, or we see the super nice places like Coruscant or Naboo. And we usually don't see kind of that middle ground, that middle class area.
00:05:28
Speaker
And what we see in the Skeleton Crew trailer is definitely Star Wars middle class. It is like the neighborhood that I grew up in. And that was my complaint about it was it looked a little bit too much exactly like the neighborhood that I grew up in. ah It didn't quite have enough Star Wars flair to me, but you know what? It really didn't matter because very soon the trailer starts getting you into the action and the excitement with these kids.

Fan Reactions to 'Skeleton Crew'

00:05:56
Speaker
They wind up running into a force user played by Jude law. And, uh, it should be interesting. I was so excited about this. I wound up last week watching the Goonies. I had some time. I was like, let's watch the Goonies again and kind of get ready for this. And, uh, it was funny because my wife came by just as we were, so I was starting to watch this movie and she's like, well, what is this?
00:06:18
Speaker
And I sat her down and she watched the whole thing with me and she enjoyed it, even though she said it was very silly, which it is. So imagine Goonies in the Star Wars galaxy. That's going to be Skeleton Crew. The other thing that I'm really fascinated about with Skeleton Crew is I am amazed at how many of the podcasters YouTubers it seems like everybody is excited about it and even the people who typically have been pretty cynical of Disney offerings. I don't really like what Disney has done with Star Wars.
00:06:52
Speaker
Uh, you know, I, I usually don't jive with those people very well, but it seems like everybody is excited about this, which kind of surprises me because if there was one project that I thought people might react negatively to, it's this one that is just starting a bunch of kids. So I I'm encouraged by that. I'm super happy that we will, uh, hopefully unite the fandom again with skeleton crew, but that's coming up in December.
00:07:19
Speaker
Saw a couple more previews that they showed just to the crowd there. Again, I saw a couple bootlegs, but it's still coming. And or season two, most excited about this.

Anticipation for 'Andor' Season 2 and Mandalorian Updates

00:07:29
Speaker
It's probably the project I'm most excited about. I, they didn't announce a release date for that, but it is probably coming sometime in the spring.
00:07:37
Speaker
And what I'm picturing is that it'll probably come out sometime around Star Wars celebration, which will be in April in Japan. We'll see if that comes true or not, but that seems to be good timing and it's always great to do it around a festival. So when I'm there in Japan and doing live broadcast from there, I might have some good stuff for you. The other thing that this was a real surprise is The next theatrical movie, which is the Mandalorian and Grogu, that has just gone into production, but we actually got a trailer. we We got like a teaser trailer and it had some scenes. It had some really cool scenes. I'm not going to spoil any of them for you, but I will say they felt fun. They felt right in line with the Mandoverse that we know so well and really excited to see what happens there.
00:08:30
Speaker
OK, now that was at the entertainment panel at the parks panel. They announced that we would it finally be getting a new mission on Star Wars Millennium Falcon Smugglers Run. I didn't say that right. It's just Millennium Falcon Smugglers Run. But at Star Wars Galaxy's Edge, you know, I remember distinctly having the understanding that there would be three missions when that ride opened.
00:09:00
Speaker
that you would alternate from. and ah And I remember being very surprised when I got there the first day and I asked the cast member the first time on the ride, I said, well, you know, what mission are we going to be doing? And she said, you're going to be rescuing Coaxium. That's about all we do around here. And sure enough, that is, that's all that you've been doing on that ride is doing the Coaxium run. Well, coming along with the release of Mandalorian and Grogu probably beforehand, because they'll want to build up the hype.
00:09:30
Speaker
they will be having a new mission with the Mandalorian and Grogu. And they showed some concept art with the the Mandalorian flying by the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon and holding Grogu. I think it sounds like fun. I'm excited i'm just excited to do something new on that ride and always love seeing the Mandalorian and Grogu. So that's something to look forward to.
00:09:54
Speaker
Let's turn now to a new topic. This is the thing that I was saying was a surprise.

New Book Introduction: 'The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire'

00:10:01
Speaker
A brand new book just came out and I just learned about it. I ordered it and I got it from Amazon.
00:10:09
Speaker
And it is called The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire. This book is by Dr. Chris Kempshaw, who it turns out is a World War I scholar, but he is a World War I scholar who definitely has some good nerd cred. And what he has done is has written this tome it is just under 400 pages long and it reads like a history book of the rise and fall of the galactic empire and even in universe it's not written by dr hemp shawl it is written by
00:10:48
Speaker
um Beaumont Kim, who you may remember from The Rise of Skywalker, that's the character played by Dominic Monaghan from Lord of the Rings. you know He's the one who was like, you know Palpatine Returns, Sith Magic, you know yeah all that crazy stuff, um wound up being a very small character. But he was supposed to be a historian who worked for the Resistance.
00:11:09
Speaker
And I have just gotten through the introduction to this. Again, I got this like a day and a half ago. um But the introduction, which is about 10 pages long, I thought was really interesting. but Let me just quote you this this. This is funny to start off with.
00:11:25
Speaker
is he says, I recall the shock I felt when resistance agents brought back from Batu, remember that's Star Wars Galaxy's Edge, brought back from Batu, among other things, word that there were traders in black spire outposts selling busts of Emperor Palpatine and other trinkets of his fallen empire. How could this be? What must have happened to make the image of the Emperor, a band responsible for the murder of billions, acceptable enough to sell and own even long after his apparent death at Endor?
00:11:54
Speaker
I just thought that was hysterical. ah The type of questions that I would ask while I was writing the Batuu and Reki, ah but it's just, it seems to be a very, very rich story and I'm really excited to get into it and see his perspective. I'm seeing already a lot of drawing ah parallels to what happens in the story and what happened in the real world.
00:12:17
Speaker
so All right, that is

Closing Remarks and Listener Engagement

00:12:20
Speaker
it folks. That is our 20th episode. I'll tell you more about that as I finish reading it. We've got a lot more stuff to talk about in the coming weeks. So hey, make sure that you continue to listen, continue to smash that like button, smash the subscribe button, tell all your friends about it, write us a review. I'm really going to be in the coming weeks looking to try to grow this audience and get more and more people part of our cleaning crew. And I would love your help in doing that.
00:12:48
Speaker
So we will see you again soon. In the meantime, keep your kitchens clean. May the force be with you. We'll see you next time. Bye bye.
