Speaker
industry. industry. We're doing this podcast a little bit impromptu.
00:01:06
Speaker
We are actually finishing it a retreat with our leadership here for our region. Wanted to bring you a podcast from the retreat here today. If you have not left us a rating or shared the podcast, please help us out.
00:01:38
Speaker
Do a good favor today. That's all we ask on the show. And hopefully you can get some value out of this and share it with someone who needs help from your team, from your division, your region, wherever you're listening

Team Retreats & Motivation

00:01:49
Speaker
to this. And so speaking of ah retreats,
00:01:52
Speaker
I think it's important that you do get your team together, get your leaders together, whether you're a leader, whether you're a new rep listening to this. I think it is important to have events like this as a team and network. and you know We're just talking today as ah as a leadership group that ah these events, they don't really make sense.
00:02:11
Speaker
Financially, you can't really justify going out and spending money on Airbnb or doing activities necessarily together. you know We're in a pretty sick Airbnb. They dropped thousands for this place. So financially, can't really justify It's not like going to get an immediate return from going out and dropping money on an Airbnb, having some good food together. you know i think over time, it it is going to be more of a long term plan. It's going to pay dividends.
00:02:36
Speaker
Because it's about having fun, right? And it's about getting your leaders together. It's about getting your people together, breaking bread. And I think that's when its what's going to keep people together on your team. It's what's going to keep them from leaving for other opportunities, other industries. And, ah you know, it's just going to give you a breath of fresh air, so to speak.
00:02:59
Speaker
It's going to keep your team motivated. And I know when I whenever I go to a retreat or event, it's like I've just you know gotten like a newfound energy, newfound love for solar because it wakes up something to me. There's something refreshing about just networking and masterminding with other people talking through our problems, talking through our challenges. And so side note, would definitely encourage you, especially if you are a leader, listen to this, get your people together. It doesn't have to be anything fancy.
00:03:26
Speaker
We've literally just been in an Airbnb eating food together, playing pool. We got guys down playing poker right now, which I hate losing money. So you might hear some screaming down there. I'm not part of the poker game right now. But these things, they are, I think, extremely important to your organization.
00:03:44
Speaker
So definitely would encourage people listening to this, get your people together.

Delegating Responsibilities in Teams

00:03:48
Speaker
yeah But then the second thing that we're going to talk about today is just the power of delegating responsibilities on your team.
00:03:56
Speaker
This is something we talked about today as a leadership group, just we can't do it all as leaders. And I recently heard a a podcast with Jeff Mendez, Poppy Mendez. He was talking about the same topic when he was running his teams at Vivint.
00:04:10
Speaker
They would have a guy that would run, ah go over numbers, they would have a guy that would be like the hype guy, run the team cheer at the end. They would have a guy that would go over like a book. think you're talking about like a book. I mean, go over a book they were all reading.
00:04:26
Speaker
Just different responsibilities, they would delegate them to certain people on the team. And you know something we've struggled with as a team sometimes the leaders, is we try to do it all.
00:04:38
Speaker
And this is something we changed recently on our leadership team here in San Diego. Instead of one person trying to do it all for their squad, we were all spread out across different squads. And what we were doing is just what the squad leader, one person was trying to run incentives, trying to get people a correlation, trying to hold people accountable, trying to hype up his team, trying to keep track of attendance, get the new guys motivated, make sure they had everything they needed. And as you can imagine, that has a lot to do for a So some of you already know that I run my own door-to-door sales team here in San Diego.
00:05:13
Speaker
And as we are gearing up for the summer, I realized if we do the same thing we always did, we're going to get the same results. But if I want to increase my deal flow, I need to do something different to get an advantage.

Introducing SolarScout

00:05:24
Speaker
Then we discovered an app called Solar Scout. But it's not a door knocking app. It's a data platform that shows us who is likely to go solar in our market. It shows us who has previously applied for solar but later canceled the deal, who has moved in recently, and even how much electricity the homes are using in a given neighborhood.
00:05:43
Speaker
It's been working for a lot of teams across the country, and now I'm on board too. I'm going to be one of the first to use SolarScout in San Diego, so I decided to partner up. But I told them, hey, I'm going to talk about SolarScout on my show. you need give my listeners a great deal. And they did.
00:05:58
Speaker
So go to solarscout.app forward slash Taylor and book a demo with them and you'll get 10% off your first month when you sign up. That's solarscout.app forward slash Taylor.
00:06:10
Speaker
Okay,

Leadership & Empowerment

00:06:11
Speaker
back to the show. like There's so many different responsibilities. So what we've put together and a realization we made is that instead of one squad leader doing it, we're all part of a bigger team, right? Why don't we get delegation going on even outside of the leaders we have in our area It's like we can get someone to go over numbers.
00:06:33
Speaker
We can get someone to take attendance correlation. and That's one of the responsibilities i took charge of is keeping attendance of our team. We got a spreadsheet going and now we're we're actually tracking who's showing up to our correlations. and It's helping us realize, okay, this person hasn't been here for weeks. Maybe it's someone that we should be reaching out to and see what's going on.
00:06:55
Speaker
So different tasks and responsibilities like that. And I'll probably do a future episode and break this down little bit further. But it's something to think about. Even if you're running a small team, can get people to help you in the different responsibilities you have as a leader.
00:07:09
Speaker
And maybe you're someone listening to this where you're newer rep, you don't have you're not part of a leadership on your team. What if you went to your leaders and said, hey, can I get more involved with this? Because guess what? The future leaders are the people that step up without being asked.
00:07:23
Speaker
right They're the ones that take care of their responsibilities before they're charged with more. right And so I believe that the best leaders are the ones that step up and do the thing. They act like the leader before they are the leader. So even if you don't have the title manager or whatever position you have listening to this, you should be the one step up. You're to be looked at as leader on your team. I promise if you do that, you will be given more responsibility, will be given more charge. And with that, we'll should come more compensation.
00:07:53
Speaker
So think about how you can delegate responsibilities on your team, get other people involved. The conversation you can have with your guys is even if they're not a leader, even if they're not being compensated, you know sit down with them one on one and say, hey, you know what, we've realized you're crushing it.
00:08:08
Speaker
And we think you're going to be a future leader of this team. We think you're someone that people look to as an example on the team. This isn't mandatory. But we want to start preparing you to lead your own future team. And we want to charge you with a little bit more responsibility.
00:08:25
Speaker
And so if you're open to it, we'd like you to be in charge of this incentive. Or we'd like to like you to be in charge of ah tracking the attendance for the team. Or we'd like you to be in charge of running a ah book club for the team. Whatever whatever responsibility is you want to...
00:08:42
Speaker
create an offload. This is something that you can empower other people to take charge, ah take the reins and step in into their leadership. Because the more you can help people see the vision, the more you can help people see that they can start taking on additional responsibilities and be the leaders, the more they're going to grow.
00:08:59
Speaker
And that's what great leaders do. That's what great leaders have done with me. They've always charged me to do more to be more than I thought I could be. And it's caused me to upgrade my leadership abilities and step into more leadership positions. Okay, so I hope this gives you something to chew on something to think about today.
00:09:17
Speaker
And hopefully the audio quality was okay. Again, this is little bit of an impromptu podcast. coming remotely from our Airbnb at our leadership retreat. So we will have some ah future interviews coming.
00:09:31
Speaker
Make sure you stay tuned and send this to someone they could use it maybe a jumpstart in what they're doing to lead your team. But I hope it gave you something to think about today. Go crush it this week.
00:09:43
Speaker
It's the summer season, no better time to sell than right now. So get out there, make some noise and we'll see you on the scoreboard. We'll see you next time. Peace.
