Speaker: Welcome to Nim and Nyleen's Nightmare Cottage, where we explore history, mysteries, and other tales of the macabre. I'm Nim. And I'm Nyleen. Let the nightmare begin.
Speaker: Guys, this has been so rough. Like, why is the first month always so rough?
Speaker: The first month of the year is just always... Because nobody does shit between Thanksgiving and New Year. That's good. Nobody should do anything. I agree with that, but that means that everything's, like, behind. and like That's true, yeah.
Speaker: So there's a lot of catching up to do, and, like, you're kind of returning to reality from this dreamland, and ours is even longer because, you know, it kind of starts with Halloween, and it's just, it's, like, liminal space instead of reality. Yeah, I have been in nonstop birthday parties since...
Speaker: I think like December, like every weekend they are renting out Chester cheeses for birthday parties. Okay. All the parents. You know, i never, i i only like got to go like once or twice as a kid. and was Speaking of nightmares, let me tell you. It was something i always thought was really cool and I always wanted to go, but we so rarely got to. Yeah.
Speaker: how monkey used to work there he yeah he donned the the rat costume no that is awesome yeah that is some awesome lore i love that yeah there's there's stories but like so he has a different relationship with that place than i do how is it now so like i felt back in the day and in in all fairness i was a kid right um i was a kid and you know like i don't know i i wasn't I mean, you know how I am now. I'm like really weird about germs and stuff.
Speaker: Oh, yeah. So that place just felt real gross like when I was little. But like I still went through all the ball pits and stuff and the tubes and touched everything. I wasn't allowed in the ball pit when I was allowed to go there. Because of all this stuff they kept finding in the ball pits in the 90s. I guess if my mom just wouldn't allow it. So I didn't get to play and I was very sad about it because it looked so neat. Because it was a literal cesspool of just germs. I wasn't.
Speaker: I didn't know. yeah That wasn't kids peeing, leaving diapers in there. I'm sure. Yeah. Let's ask monkey later. But anyways, so nowadays, I don't know if it's because like the one that they've been renting out is like a new one.
Speaker: But by the way, they're they're not sponsoring us. You know, just kidding. and don't know if it's because it's a newer one, but like it feels really clean. Like the floors are clean. nice Like pizza smells really good, but it's like, you know, it's it's pizza.
Speaker: It's like. I don't know if that might be sacrilegious to some people. I was going to say like Costco pizza, but like, you know what I mean? Like it's just like it's fine. Yeah, it's it's good. I mean, it's fine. Yeah, it's like like see's a not CC's Little Caesar's like Little Caesars or something like that.
Speaker: You know what i mean? It's it's clean and ah like the areas the kids play in just feel a lot better. It doesn't feel as crowded. And they have this like really cool like numbering system to like make sure like when you're leaving, you're leaving with the right kid. Right. yeah I've heard about that. Again, speaking of nightmares, geez, I didn't even realize that that was a thing when they were like stamping. But that's actually really cool. I think they used to do that back in the day, too, though.
Speaker: Yeah. I don't know. Yeah. So that's been a thing. Man, this this week has been crazy for me, but I could go on for a while. So I want to check if you've got stuff to talk about. I guess, I don't know. don't have anything really interesting going on, but I'm dealing with a lot of end-of-year tax shit at work. So, you know, that's stupid. That is a problem. stupid It's not a problem. It's just annoying. No, I can't do Ugh.
Speaker: It's just a lot of data gathering and input. And that's that's all I'm doing because i'm not I'm not an accountant. I just, I am an admin. I just gather and sort. I used to love doing taxes.
Speaker: Now I dread it. Yeah, it's it's tedious bullshit, which is completely not interesting for anybody at all to listen about. But other than that, I've been, because...
Speaker: I got this damn switch too for Christmas. So I've been playing Story of Seasons. Which one is that? Story of Seasons? Story of Seasons Grand Bazaar, which if people are familiar with like Harvest Moon or Rune Factory, it's know a lot of the same people I think worked on some of the, I don't know.
Speaker: i don't know, but. It's similar to type of gameplay yeah where you have like a town and like a farm and something you're doing with that farm for the town. Oh, like, yeah, like a Sardew Valley or an Animal Crossing. No, Sardew Valley or Harvest Moon kind of sit situation. very very it's It's very, very Harvest Moon. It's just, yeah.
Speaker: So that's when you have a shop on on the weekends on Saturday. there's It's Bizarre Day. And so everything you're doing for the whole week is like gathering your shit to sell on the Bizarre Day. Yeah. So that's what I've been. that sounds super fun, actually. i've I keep calling it stupid. Like I've been playing this stupid fucking game.
Speaker: Because I keep fucking playing it I can't stop playing it. And I play it way too much. And it just it's just, it's like taking my life. And this is not nightmare content. It's cottagey though. So it's cozy as fuck. But it's a pain in the ass for a lot of reasons. Anyways, I could talk about it for a long time.

Speaker: like yeah dredge i have not been able to stop playing dredge i really i actually bought it because you told me i bought it it is so good i haven't started it because i'm still story of seasoning so tell when me tell me but i will tell you like just listen you're gonna get bored in the first like 30 to 45 minutes of gameplay you're gonna be like is this all this is just push past that And you will open up so fucking much.
Speaker: It is insane. I lose track of time. And it is so good. it's It's just a really... And it's so pretty. It's such a pretty little thing. And then it's so deep...
Speaker: the emotions you start to feel when you're doing the things you're doing and learning the things you're learning. That's all I'll say. I know that it's supposed to have like a a spooky undercurrent of something happening and it's like Lovecraftian. Yes. Yeah. yeah so And then I got the DLCs too. Those are really great.
Speaker: i will I will eventually get to that if I can. I'm going to try your game too. See if that Man, that's a fucking full price game, though. That's fine.
Speaker: That's my, like, chill time now. Okay. That's my downtime. Man, I'm telling you, it's gotten me back. I went so long not playing shit, and now lately I've just been. That's all I want to do. Stupid.
Speaker: It's not stupid. it's It's what we need to cope right now. Yeah, fair. Fair, fair. But last thing. So do you remember how I was telling you that Sushi, my cat Sushi, loves to and go in the shower after i oh my gosh. So the other day, i guess Ace had been in the shower um and I didn't realize it because he had just left.
Speaker: And so I was going to go in and shower and I wasn't paying attention. I was looking at my phone and I just like opened the door to the shower and like turned it on. And yes, out comes poor Sushi. Just the saddest meow. Just meow. Just the saddest meow. And she just walked, like ran out of there and just her entire backside was just covered.
Speaker: And I was like, oh no. And so I like tried to grab a towel and throw it on her and she got really scared um because I was trying to clean her off and so she went and ran away and so I had to like pull out her little shrimpy treats and like coax her out and I was like I'm so sorry and she didn't go in the shower for like three or four days I finally put her in there yesterday and I was just like here like I'm not gonna hurt you so sad I'm always afraid that they're gonna like hate you after that. know what mean? Oh yeah. I just went through that. know Grim's a 100% indoor cat outside his outer space. He does have a harness that he wears if we go out with the leash. Yeah.
Speaker: But like he has to wear his space suit if he wants to go into outer space. So he's not allowed outside. So we have sliding glass door to the backyard and it was open.
Speaker: He took his moment and he dashed out. my gosh. And so I dashed out after him And I'm panicking because if he's, we have this raised deck, right? So if he gets under the deck, I cannot get him. there's those other cats under there too. There's those other cats under there too. Might scare him. and Or other critters. I have no idea what's under there. There's no telling. So I'm very concerned. And so he gets off the deck.
Speaker: And looks like he's looking under the deck like he wants to go under there. So I'm panicking. So I have to like run and I dive and kind of grab him. But he gets away. So I kind of have to grab him and I get his tail and he's howling and hissing at me. And I don't know if I heard him with his tail or not.
Speaker: He seems fine. He hasn't had any problems. Anyways, he was very, very mad, but he wasn't scratching me. He let me pick him up. Oh my gosh. it was like He's just so big too. I couldn't imagine trying to have to catch him. He didn't fight me. He was just very start clearly mad. yeah He wanted me to know he was mad.
Speaker: But he let me pick him up. And then I was so afraid he was like super crazy mad at me in general. But like not 20 minutes later, he came and snuggled up on me on the couch. So yeah. That's the best. Yeah. So we're cool. It's all good. He knows he was being a dick.
Speaker: He knows it was all his fault. But like also you kind of feel that too. I feel bad for how it went down, but he should feel bad for his actions. You caused this. Grimothy.
Speaker: Grimothy, if that is your real name. It is. It is. It is actually vet's habit as that because. So funny. When they were like, his name's Grim and he's like, yeah, short for Grimothy. And so they put Grimothy into the system. funny. So funny.
Speaker: So are we ready to get started with it? I feel like we've regaled them with our bullshit. Well, and we've been waiting. We've been waiting to get back. That's true. Forever now. Yes. Okay. This is kind of like a part two a little bit. So you definitely left us hanging. Well, kind of. i mean, you indicated very clearly that Arnie was not okay.
Speaker: He was not okay. You're right. So previously on the nightmare cottage, Nylene's corner. It's 1980. An 11-year-old David Glassell is enlisted to help his sister, Debbie, and her boyfriend, Arnie, clean up their new rental house.
Speaker: David claims that he saw a horrifying demon that followed him home and threatened to take his soul. Over the next few weeks, David and the family began to experience what they described to be paranormal events, which eventually involved Ed and Lorraine Warren, our favorite.
Speaker: The Warrens helped to gain David an exorcism. Towards the end of the ritual being performed, David began to turn blue from lack of oxygen. In frustration, Arnie yells to the demon to take him instead.
Speaker: And the ritual ends. Right. and And Lorraine was very upset about this. Yes, she was. But things seem to be getting back to normal. And Debbie and Arnie began to finally settle into a normal life.
Speaker: Meanwhile, as you mentioned, Lorraine Warren has hit up the local police office and is warning them that serious injury or death with a knife is coming and that Arnie would be involved.
Speaker: Do we have any questions? Did I miss up anything? No, that pretty much sums it up. But that that is still just so oddly specific. It is, but we did. We we closed the loop on David at the very least. So he was possessed, supposedly, and had this exorcism. And it didn't seem the demon left, maybe went to our dear friend Arnie instead.
Speaker: We're now in February of 1981. It's been five months since the exorcism of David Glitzel was performed. Arnie and Debbie have been living together and everyone's enjoying a demon-free life.
Speaker: They had moved into a little apartment near Debbie's new job. The apartment was owned by Debbie's boss, Alan Bono. And it seemed that maybe this was like a duplex situation, like where they were living or maybe like an upper or lower floor situation. Either way.
Speaker: On the morning of February 16th, Arnie and Debbie were planning to head to the nearby town of Bridgeport to pick up Arnie's sisters to bring them to their house for the weekend. Like they were just staying the weekend with their with their uncle.
Speaker: He had been telling Debbie he wasn't feeling too well this morning, but they decided to get going to pick up the girls anyways. After picking up the girls, they all head back to grab some lunch with Alan because, you know, they're friends.
Speaker: They decided to have some alcoholic drinks with their meal, but it seemed like Alan might be getting a little bit too intoxicated. Noticing this, Arnie suggests to Debbie that maybe it's time to go.
Speaker: Alan was just getting like a little bit too loud. He was flirtatious and and Arnie didn't feel comfortable exposing like his three young sisters to that. Mm hmm. So they start walking downstairs to leave, but Arnie states Alan Bono grabbed one of his sister's arms and would not let go.
Speaker: That is the last thing he remembers. Ooh. Allegedly, at this point, Arnie claims his mind goes blank. At around 8 p.m., David Gletzel says, answers the house landline.
Speaker: For those of you who don't know, um it's a phone that's like basically plugged into the house um that everyone uses. That's the best way. Like, but it's it's a phone that plugs into the wall and everyone uses it and it stays in the house.
Speaker: So the house phone rings and David hears his sister screaming on the line. He says at this moment, he sees a vision of a man lying on the floor dead And he knows something horrible is happening.
Speaker: Vision. I feel like he can probably he probably heard someone say something. But perhaps I don't know. So he hears his mom screaming. She tells his dad to get in the car.
Speaker: They immediately need to get to the kennels where his sister works. So everyone's heading over that way. The police are called in for a report of a serious stabbing. Sorry.
Speaker: As it was foretold. Yes, as it was foretold. Yeah, that must be a weird call to get after you've just been told. The report the police get is that there was a fight that ensued in an upstairs unit.
Speaker: Somehow it escalated and ended with both men in the front yard and Alan Bono stabbed by Ernie Johnson. Alan's bleeding out. He's on the ground and Arnie is nowhere to be found.
Speaker: So at the. He ran his mouth. So. Yeah. Yeah. and can't be inviting demons in. Come on, man. No, I meant like the other guy. talked shit.
Speaker: Remind me what he said. but That was the last thing he remembered. Last thing he remembered was Alan Bono grabbing his sister's arm. Right. That's what. Yeah. Yeah. Basically the same thing.
Speaker: Talking shit, grabbing your sister, whatever. Yeah. I mean, there's similar veins. You know, it's it's a, you know, blind rage. Yeah. Like ah impulse reaction. Yeah. To murder someone with a knife. Yeah. And so you blacked out to do it. Anyways.
Speaker: um Debbie's really worked up for obvious reasons. She tells police that Arnie's eyes turned black and he went into a rage. After the stabbing, Arnie took off towards the woods and she thought that maybe he was going to the family home, which was nearby.
Speaker: The house on three Oak Grove Road where the supposed original possession took place. Okay. He's going back to where it all began. Okay. That makes for a good narrative. Doesn't it? Meanwhile, David Glitzel reports to his brother that he can see Arnie, not physically, but he has a vision of him.
Speaker: Very similar to when he was laying in bed that night and saw something coming to the house. Except this time it's Arnie coming towards the house. David's sure that Arnie is possessed and is coming to kill them.
Speaker: And he's freaking out in the room. He's he's with his brothers, begging them to help him barricade the door. And the boys jump into action and they start helping their brother barricade the door. Like, real or not, how horrible is this for like a 12-year-old boy? Jesus, yeah. He's so traumatized from the experience of someone telling him he was possessed and having this exorcism done that he is so sure that someone is coming to kill him. Like, he is... he is Well, yeah. I mean, your imagination at that age, like even. Yes, he's so impressionable. Like, I mean, even even in the most like sane of situations, like kids have a way of like kind of building that kind of a panic up and really granderizing it. Yeah, because you have no understanding of what limits of physics and, you know, existence are. Right, exactly.
Speaker: Yeah. I do also wonder how Often throughout his life, like as he was growing up, like he's looking over his shoulder and blaming, for lack of a better word, blaming things around him for a supernatural.
Speaker: Sure. You know, being that might still be after him. Right. But luckily for the boys, back to this back to the show, luckily for the boys, um Arnie was apprehended a few miles from the crime scene. um He didn't resist arrest when he was taken into custody. There was no additional incident. They just took him in.
Speaker: So the police get him booked. They said that he looked like he'd been in a fight, but otherwise he just seemed totally normal. Like he was just relaxed. He was fine. He was just there.
Speaker: was existing. Arnie says that he snapped into reality again around the time he was being booked and asked what was going on. The police informed him that he was being booked for killing Alan.
Speaker: He very calmly denies that being possible. At the time of his arrest, he's adamant that he said goodbye Alan and then he left. Alan's fine. There's no way this is happening. He doesn't recall anything like that happening.
Speaker: He has no remorse for the crime. He has no memory of the crime and he's in disbelief that this could be possible, right?
Speaker: Arnie and Debbie are adamant that he's not guilty of this crime because he was obviously Possessed at the time of the crime, they've decided. They believe what has happened is that during the exorcism, when Arnie beckoned the demon to take him instead, it did just that and waited until the perfect moment to act in this horrific way. And then it just floated away, never to be seen again. Never? He doesn't come back out? Nope.
Speaker: Nope. Spoilers. He does, like, at the end of what I was talking about, I didn't put this in, like, my story, but he says something like, The demon never left. i I was strong enough to to wrestle with it. whether I think he he he suggests basically that it's still there, but he he keeps it at bay or something. That's what I understood, but I could be wrong. Oh my gosh, hello. Hello, Graham. Little Nightmare Kitty.
Speaker: They were really hopeful that he would at least have a sentence reduced, if not dismissed, due to the amount of evidence they had of the possession of David. And Arnie's involvement in the whole case was like recorded, right? It's on cassette tapes and they have pictures and other people to corroborate this.
Speaker: The press, they had a field day with this. It was dubbed in the media as the devil made me do it case. Arnie lawyered up, hired a defense attorney, Martin Manella. Martin states he came into this case as skeptic, but after viewing all the photos, tapes, and the credibility of the Warrens' involvement, he believes there has to be something supernatural going on.
Speaker: which Oh, really? Of course you're going to say that. You're yeah defending him. I would hope you would say that. Right, right, right. Martin is confident that he can get the case reduced.
Speaker: This would be the first court case in the U.S. where the defense attempted to prove innocence based on the claim of demonic possession. The defense was used in England at least three times at the time of this case in 1980, and all three of the indicted in those cases were found not guilty on the grounds of demonic possession.
Speaker: But that was overseas. Martin is hopeful he can use this as grounds to find Arnie not guilty as well. Basically precedence, right? it should But it's not, okay, but it's not here. it's not Exactly. It's overseas.
Speaker: Yeah. But, you know, sometimes they're like, well, if it's reasonable there, what makes it less reasonable here? You know, that can be an argument that can be struck as well. Yeah. But anyways, it should go without saying that the possession aspect of this case was sensationalized in the media.
Speaker: And a lot of the public were on the fence of religious standing proving innocence. The Warrens were very vocal in the media about there being proof of possession and the reason why this happened.
Speaker: Six days after the stabbing, a local news director was placed in touch with the Warrens. Hmm. And they provided him with some of the tapes of David being possessed for him to play on the air.
Speaker: It was aired on two radio stations associated with, it's spelled, it's called Wine News. They were getting phone calls of people asking him to play it over and over.
Speaker: They were getting mail from psychics and mediums across country trying to help with this case. the sensationalism of the possession aspect initially overshadowed the more tangible facts of the case i bet.
Speaker: but as more people started to dig into this case more questions came up about the glytzel family and the events they really experience behind closed doors what happened when the tapes weren't recording verly yeah so carl the oldest Glitzel brother, has recently been outspoken about what things were like for him growing up in the house around this time.
Speaker: See, this is what I wanted to know. Yeah. He says that his family wasn't as religious as they portrayed themselves to be. That his mother really didn't even start going to church until the possession stuff started to happen. Which to me, i think religious values can fluctuate for people based on their lived experiences. So I understand someone who might find religion in a really horrible situation. So I don't want to downplay that part, but that is what someone, that is someone else's opinion, not my own. Just saying that part. Right.
Speaker: Especially when something's like as traumatic as like a possession is perceived to be. But Carl reported it that he felt like the Warrens laid the groundwork for a lot of the recordings and things that they caught on camera.
Speaker: They let the family know what to expect from a deeper possession in front of David. Oh. With a little bit of direction.
Speaker: So he might cuss you out or spit and scratch at you. He might say things against religious values. He would shake. He would vibrate out of control.
Speaker: He's in an impenetrable trance. These are all things you should expect to see as this possession gets worse. Mm-hmm.
Speaker: And they said this in front of him. Yes. Nice. He was an impressionable 11 year old. Like most kids his age can be. Like i I can't blame him. You're so deep into the lie. You got to keep it going, man. Well, Carl recalls one time when David was supposed to be in a deep trance. Yeah.
Speaker: um He was possessed and David was cussing out his mother and spitting and screaming and it had been going on and on and on. And his mother is just exhausted trying to get him to calm down on the ground.
Speaker: And his mom is telling the demon, stop, just begging him, please calm down. And their dad suddenly enter enters the room. Now, if you remember, their dad was not a believer in the whole situation, right? He had tried to distance himself from from it as much as possible.
Speaker: Well, his dad comes in. He's mad because he's he's over this whole situation. In a huff, he picks David up from the ground, smacks him, and tells him, now I said stop, and tells him, sit down and shut it As Carl puts it, quote, the devil sat down and was very quiet. That is a quote.
Speaker: So in this case, right, put yourself in this situation, right? You're at home with a sibling who is in this throes of possession,
Speaker: Right. Would you try to be the voice of reason if you felt they were faking it? Or what what would you do in that situation as the older sibling? Like, what could you possibly do?
Speaker: Well, older sibling is something I've never been, but Same. ah I feel like I'd be a know-it-all about it anyways. And.
Speaker: You'd like, you're not really possessed because you can't sneeze like that when you're possessed. Just some stupid shit just to be like, just to mess with them, you know? Well, yeah, but I would also, yeah i was generally a, this isn't right, let's fix it kind of person when I was a kid. Got it. so So Carl was also there the night that Alan was stabbed by Arnie.
Speaker: Okay, yeah. He states he was helping his dad work on the car when his mother ran outside, telling his dad that they needed a head to to help Debbie, right? So Carl jumps in the car with his parents, and he went with them to the crime scene. And at 15, he is trying to console Alan as he lay on the ground bleeding out, waiting for the ambulance to come.
Speaker: Scarred for life. Yes. Alan Bono had four stab wounds to his chest. Even then, he says there was nothing demonic about the situation. and a Carl does.
Speaker: Carl says that Arnie wasn't possessed, but he was possessive of Debbie. And there was a rumor going around that Debbie had been sleeping with Alan Bono. Oh, shit. Which could be a pretty strong motive for Arnie to want Alan dead.
Speaker: Debbie confirmed to a law enforcement officer that she did have a previous relationship with Alan before Arnie, but it had nothing to do with the situation. Everyone was aware of what was going on and everyone was fine.
Speaker: As far as I could see, they didn't dig much more into that, but that was something of note. Yeah. So the trial was dubbed the devil's trial. It began in October of 1981, and it was brutal.
Speaker: ah The family was so sure that Arnie would be proven innocent due to possession. They planned to put the priest on the stand. They wanted to play the tapes, show the pictures they had.
Speaker: And as you can guess, this was not allowed with the courts. The judge ruled there was no precedent set in the U.S. that would allow demonic possession or evidence of possession to be presented as a factor in the case.
Speaker: Without the ability to plead not guilty based on demonic possession, they pled not guilty by self-defense. Yeah. okay But that didn't hold over well due to the multiple stab wounds and limited defensive wounds on himself.
Speaker: So November 1981, the verdict was handed down as not guilty of murder in the first degree, but guilty of manslaughter in the first degree.
Speaker: His sentence was the maximum sentence of 10 to 20 years. Debbie stood by Arnie and his innocent plea throughout the trial and even after. Wow. They married with while Arnie was in prison in 1985 and And Arnie was released from prison in 1986. Oh, wow. He was only in there for six years. Yeah. But so he basically got out on good behavior.
Speaker: And Debbie, she actually died recently. and So they stayed married until she died. Is he still alive? I believe so. Don't catch me lying, but I believe so. Because there was a recent um Netflix documentary thing on this called, think it was called The Devil's Devil Made Me Do It.
Speaker: So Judy, Debbie's mother, was also a vocal advocate for Arnie's innocence. With the help of the Warrens, Judy would go on to talk do talk shows and speak to reporters about what had happened.
Speaker: They even made it all the way to Hollywood and had a sensationalized book written on what had happened. The third Conjuring film was made based on their story, and the book The Devil on Trial was written based on the possession, with Judy providing firsthand accounts for the base of the story.
Speaker: unfortunately for the glitzels they only ever saw around four thousand dollars from the whole ordeal the warrens got something closer to eighty thousand from just the book deal alone and so much more from the movies i imagine yeah yeah well and then plus everybody knew who they were and so they got all this attention and yeah yeah so the four thousand dollars is all the money they ever saw though the glitzels yeah Carl claims that after his mother passed, he found notes in his mom's things where she would write things like, quote, the family had their medicine tonight and all is good.
Speaker: He started digging into what this could mean, and he found that their mother, Judy, would regularly put somonex in their food. Oh. For those of you that don't know, somonex is a sleep aid that the family didn't know they were being dosed with.
Speaker: Carl even recalled that his mother would eat from a separate bowl and serve herself before bringing the food to the table for everyone else. Where have we seen this before? If we have learned anything.
Speaker: now Never trust somebody eating from a different dish. Exactly. We have this as proof. And then the mushroom murders as well. Yeah. If they're eating, your host is eating from a different bowl or they didn't serve themselves in front of you. It's poison. Everything you're eating is poison. You're being poisoned. I'm sorry. Better safe than sorry. Poison.
Speaker: A little sensitive. um A quote from Carl.
Speaker: I believe my mother used Somonix to control all us boys and my dad. At the end of the day, if everybody's tired and exhausted, guess what? Everybody's going to rest and sit down.
Speaker: There's no more problems. Somonix has long-term side effects, one of them being hallucinations. Oh, no. So it is assumed that this could be what was happening.
Speaker: David Glitzel is adamant to this day that he was possessed and was not drugged by his mother. Alan was living at the glitz cells for a time and he may have been dosed as well, i assume.
Speaker: Carl feels a strange comfort in finding that his mother may have been dosing them. It lends a little more credibility to David truly feeling that he experienced something supernatural and wasn't just writing the five minutes of fame that everyone else involved seemed to have been.
Speaker: that also makes me feel a little better if that's the case. Yeah. Unfortunately, we will never know what really happened in the Glitzel house in October of 1980 or what state of mind Arnie may have been in the night of the murder of Alan Bono.
Speaker: Sorry, that was a long one. No, no, that's um some shit. So i I know that you are very skeptical when it comes to this kinds of things. So I know that you really like to hear the other side of you know, of these cases. So I tried to really dig into that research this time.
Speaker: You've told me before about the Warrens. I don't know if you wanted to talk about that today or do that separately. Well, i do okay, so we we talked about this, you know, I think they are predatory scum who took grieving people and manipulated them for profit um in really disgusting, gross ways.
Speaker: I understand they were also disgusting personally in some weird ways. i I encourage you to look it up because I don't know all the details, but I know it involved um this woman who lived with them starting when she was 15. And she allegedly was in a sexual relationship with Ed Warren and Lorraine was aware of it.
Speaker: Allegedly, they forced her to have an abortion at some point, but she like lived with them for decades. like she or like they were it was part of a thing and she's even present in some of the the nonfiction accounts from other people. like And not that I have a problem with like a poly relationship, but as long as everyone is consenting and of age to consent. Correct. Yes, that. And she, she didn't want to have the abortion. She wanted to have the baby. Exactly. so And that, yeah, should never be forced on anyone. Yeah. So that's really fucking disgusting. And,
Speaker: But I don't know. i mean, we we weren't there. And it's all alleged. I encourage you to look further into that. I don't have allegedly's. Allegedly's. But yeah, I don't have the the super T on that. Just the.

Speaker: I'm going to give the the whole Conjuring series movies like another chance. But because like i've I've like I had like a block against it. And that's not fair because I think I would actually enjoy them quite a bit. Yeah, think you would.

Speaker: So my Nightmare Fuel is the same book that I brought up last time. so the, think it's called The Devil in Connecticut. The Devil on Trial was another book written on the possession.
Speaker: And then also the third Conjuring film, The Devil Made Me Do It, because that's what this one was about. Obviously, watch them in order if you want to. And then the book, The Devil on Trial.
Speaker: I also have Nightmare Fuel this doesn't have anything at all to do with the episode. ah But I just finished this fucking book called Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil. Oh, that sounds spooky. It's a vampire book. o It's toxic lesbian vampires through time. oh And it's like, that sounds eclectic. It's so good. It like starts with this girl in the 1500s and she gets turned and how she uses that through her life. And then this, then, then how she connects with these other two through time and like the stories. And it's like, you know, that does sound really nice, man. It's so good. it sounds like it pulls on your heart a bit too.
Speaker: It does, but it's also like fun and like, I don't know, really. Is it on Kindle? it Yeah. I hope so. Yeah, yeah. I just know you listen to everything on audiobook. I do. Oh, yeah, but nothing's going to get to audiobook that isn't at least on an e-book. Oh.
Speaker: Yeah. No, it's, you might have a hard time sometimes finding stuff in like print, but e-book and audio are pretty handin hand in hand. I just want to bop that kitty on the head so bad.

Speaker: So I have a mini grave encounter. So we're going to just real, real briefly, like it's super, super quick. I recently took a trip to Arkansas. um I saw a bit of the Ozarks and Eureka Springs. Oh, I'm so jealous. Which was so beautiful and awesome. and I'm definitely going to go back. So I'm going to be reporting some and spooky travel stuff for that place for 100% sure.
Speaker: But on my way in, I stopped at the Benton County Poor Farm Cemetery in Bentonville, Arkansas. I went into this one blind and it was a bit eerie, but beautiful. I had just looked up interesting cemeteries in Arkansas before my trip um and it popped up close to where I was going to be. So I like I was just OK, cool. And and then i'll like yeah I'll go there. I'll experience it and then I'll learn about it. And this is that's what happened. So I went in December Driving to the location took me through like a totally residential subdivision, like a pretty nice one. It's like, you know, nice big houses and stuff. Everything was decked out in inflatable Santas with bluey and sparkling lights everywhere. and when the GPS said we were there...
Speaker: It was just like a path up to a little white fence. Aw. It was like an old cemetery. It was in a completely empty space. Like, there was some trees in there, but there was nothing in there. oh no.
Speaker: Was it, like, mowed down, for lack of a better term? Well... There's just no stone. So it's it's it was beautiful, but there wasn't a stone to be seen. And again, I didn't do my research, so i I was very surprised. I didn't I didn't know that it was like just a space. And I've got pictures for the show notes.
Speaker: The poor farms were generally intended to be how counties would address poverty. And it was more common in England, but it had started to pop up in the States. Benton County had one of the few in Arkansas, and it wasn't sinister. It was a place where poor people could live and work.
Speaker: After issues finding places to put it, they finally got it built in 1860, but it stayed pretty much unused until after the Civil War. After that, it stayed in operation until the nineteen thirty s The Benton County Poor Farm Cemetery is all that remains of the farm now.
Speaker: There are 130 buried Oh my 67 of them are memorialized on a plaque outside the entrance, but the other 63 names are lost to time. That's so sad.
Speaker: The cemetery was in use from 1877 1908. Oh my goodness. If you ever find yourself near Bentonville for any reason, it's actually a pretty cute town. They've got like museums in a fun downtown area with cool shops and stuff.
Speaker: If you're in that area, then it's it's just it's just in it's in the middle of like a freaking residential subdivision. so And then here, if you would like to look at it. pictures i went at sunset so it was like really fucking pretty oh it's a poor farm yeah oh that's really sad that's why they didn't put any that's why they didn't put any stones yeah that's so sad Yeah.
