Speaker: All right, Cherry Burke in chapter 11.
Speaker: You know what else is good?
Speaker: What's that?
Speaker: Hey there, everybody.
Speaker: Welcome back to Pig Slip.
Speaker: My name is Kevin.
Speaker: With me, as always, is Phil.
Speaker: Hello.
Speaker: And today we are picking up where we left off with Resident Evil City of the Dead by S.D.
Speaker: Perry.
Speaker: The one and only.
Speaker: Come on.
Speaker: The one and only S.D.
Speaker: Perry.
Speaker: And this is our first episode after episode 100.
Speaker: And at the end of episode 100, I feel like we made an announcement about something, about a very special website.
Speaker: Phil, can you remind me what that website is?
Speaker: You know, it's been requested by very few people.
Speaker: No, I'm joking.
Speaker: We...
Speaker: We finally broke down, ladies and gentlemen, and we have started the Pixelit Podcast Patreon.
Speaker: So if you go to patreon.com, the Pixelit Podcast, you will be able to access one of our three tiers of membership.
Speaker: You can just throw a buck every month just to show us how much you love us.
Speaker: But we've also got offers for bonus material in there.
Speaker: I'm going to be using this as an opportunity to...
Speaker: write some more reviews and essays and that sort of thing so that we can get y'all some cool new stuff.
Speaker: It's also an easy way to get early access to our episodes and bonus episodes that Kevin and I are already planning.
Speaker: We've already got ideas on what kind of bonus stuff we want to do.
Speaker: So we are getting this whole thing started and we've already got a nice little collection of wonderful supporters in there.
Speaker: And it means the world to me to see them there.
Speaker: So, yeah, so it's going to be fun.
Speaker: At the second tier, you get free access to a bunch of our bonus material, early access to the episodes, and actually you'll also have voting power when it comes to anything we might put to the audience.
Speaker: If we say, hey, for this upcoming episode, for...
Speaker: this holiday or whatever, like, what would you rather us talk about?
Speaker: We're going to put it to you guys because that makes it fun.
Speaker: And at that tier, you get to vote.
Speaker: And then finally, the very next level up has all of that good stuff.
Speaker: But on top of that, you're going to get a shout out from us at the end of every episode, because we love you.
Speaker: Because we love you.
Speaker: Because we love you.
Speaker: And that's it.
Speaker: It's very cool.
Speaker: I'm really excited.
Speaker: People really seem to have been happy to support us on this.
Speaker: Already we're making, you know, we got a nice little bonus there that helps us pay for the upkeep of all this stuff.
Speaker: Yeah, I mean, it's just nice.
Speaker: People care about us, and this really helps us pay for just the business side of doing a podcast, the hosting and all that stuff.
Speaker: It'll be a little bit before we actually break even on this endeavor, but that doesn't really matter to us as long as people are happy and all that stuff.
Speaker: And just because even though it's a higher tier, I want to just shout out our first five podcasts.
Speaker: Yeah, do it.
Speaker: Patrons that joined.
Speaker: So starting, we got Harry from Video Games Are Bad.
Speaker: He was the first person as soon as we... Good to go, Harry.
Speaker: We posted it.
Speaker: He was right on there.
Speaker: We got Christopher Hicks.
Speaker: We got Gautam Jayanthi.
Speaker: We got Brian Kieft.
Speaker: And we got our most recent, rounding out the first five, we got...
Speaker: Tim Reynolds, a.k.a.
Speaker: the man who married Phil and his wife together.
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: It's true.
Speaker: It's true.
Speaker: And I just and I got to say, you know, I always feel weird about things like this when money is changing hands and everything.
Speaker: And if you want to support us and you don't have a lot of money, there's going to be no...
Speaker: a shame to doing like a buck or something like that because honestly, when we see even a person willing to give us a dollar for doing this, it makes us feel really, really damn good.
Speaker: Really warm on the inside.
Speaker: Either that or we need diapers.
Speaker: And it could be both.
Speaker: It could be both.
Speaker: It could be both.
Speaker: I mean, it's around 40 is when things start becoming questionable down there.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: And I think you never trust a fart after 30.
Speaker: That is a fact.
Speaker: Never trust a fart after 30.
Speaker: But we are going to be expanding on things like what are you playing, for example.
Speaker: The stuff, the games that we talk about on what are you playing, which I know a lot of you really enjoy.
Speaker: It's going to be a really easy springboard for us to start with some brief discussion on the show and turn that into a full-fledged review or something like that if we feel particularly strong about it.
Speaker: Or even just a quick video where we get together and say, hey, we both beat this game.
Speaker: Let's talk about our feelings on it.
Speaker: feelings.
Speaker: For half an hour or something like that and if that's something you want, awesome.
Speaker: And if there's something specific you want, that's the other thing.
Speaker: Comment on stuff and say, we'd love to see this.
Speaker: I'd love for you guys to talk about this.
Speaker: Here's my fan fiction.
Speaker: Please review it.
Speaker: We won't.
Speaker: But it's kind that you're even thinking.
Speaker: That's all there is to it.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Ditto.
Speaker: You know.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Phil, what do you got there?
Speaker: Is that a... Is that gin?
Speaker: This is garden variety tap water, I'm afraid.
Speaker: I am sober as a bird.
Speaker: It looks blue from here.
Speaker: Oh, well, it is.
Speaker: It's one of these ball mason jars that do these special edition... Oh, yeah, mason jars.
Speaker: They're little tinted.
Speaker: Blue ones.
Speaker: Yeah, yeah.
Speaker: So we have the mason jars that we use for actually canning stuff, and then we have the mason jars that we drink out of, and sometimes they swap spaces.
Speaker: What's that thing that's, it's like sapphire something, the Bombay sapphire.
Speaker: There we go.
Speaker: Oh, sure.
Speaker: Yeah, yeah.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Oh, it totally has that tint.
Speaker: You're absolutely right.
Speaker: I was like, it has a tint of Bombay sapphire.
Speaker: Yeah, it does have that tint.
Speaker: No, no, you're totally right.
Speaker: No, but actually today, me and the wife went on a little weekend excursion and just got back a couple of hours ago, and it's just like, I think I just need to hydrate because I've been out in the sun.
Speaker: All right.
Speaker: It would be nice if I could rehydrate and not pass out tonight without it being just based on sleep.
Speaker: So, we'll see how that goes.
Speaker: See how that goes.
Speaker: Yeah, one time I was on a movie, I was shooting a short film, and one of the actors stole a Bombay Sapphire bottle from our cabinet and drank three quarters of it on set.
Speaker: Oh my God.
Speaker: Is this anyone I know?
Speaker: Unfortunately not.
Speaker: What a shame.
Speaker: All right.
Speaker: Let's put the body in the marsh.
Speaker: Oh, yeah.
Speaker: All right.
Speaker: So we are starting back in with chapter 12 and it's an Ada Wong chapter.
Speaker: By the way, I feel like Ada has more chapters than Leon from.
Speaker: It does start to blend, doesn't it?
Speaker: We get a lot of Ada.
Speaker: A lot of stuff from Ada's point of view.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: I'm not complaining, but it... No, no.
Speaker: It also, it sort of makes sense because, like, we already know Ada knows everything that's going on.
Speaker: Why tell the story from Leon's point of view?
Speaker: And if he's just going to be a dumb doofus about... We already... You know what Leon's all about within the first five minutes.
Speaker: Oh, gee shucks.
Speaker: I'm going to save Raccoon City.
Speaker: Exactly.
Speaker: Leave it to Leon.
Speaker: But Ada Wong has a little more mystery and that kind of thing.
Speaker: And I really... I did enjoy...
Speaker: the inner monologue that we got from her.
Speaker: And there's a little more struggle with her character in the book than perhaps you saw in the game.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Um, so we start back with Ada and she's, she's just taking a break in the lead detective's office and rubbing her feet.
Speaker: So, you know, shout out to the feet guys.
Speaker: Oh yeah.
Speaker: Little Ada Wong foot action for you.
Speaker: Show feet.
Speaker: And she's considering the nature of how the T virus operates.
Speaker: And she's also wondering about Trent's motivations.
Speaker: So just like Trent.
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: Trent is the one who has hired her.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: We still got Trent.
Speaker: I kind of thought.
Speaker: We still got Trent.
Speaker: I kind of thought we were going to drop Trent at some point along the way.
Speaker: But he has stuck through all three books so far.
Speaker: Yes, because S.D.
Speaker: Perry saw that there was a huge gap in character motivations across the books and was like, well, I got to do something about that.
Speaker: We better do something.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: You know what?
Speaker: Fair enough.
Speaker: Fair enough.
Speaker: Fair enough.
Speaker: And as she's leaving the room, she notices that there are less zombies in the hallway than when she had first come in.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: So she's like, all right, well, maybe it's another survivor as opposed to say, and she refers to it as a tyrant retriever, which is something that she's been warned about.
Speaker: That sounds like a dog breed from fucking hell.
Speaker: It does sound like a dog breed from hell.
Speaker: I'm pretty sure she's referring to Mr. X in this episode.
Speaker: I also believe that's what she's talking about.
Speaker: She's like, I wonder if I hope it's not a tyrant retriever walking around the hills.
Speaker: But yeah, we got a most of the chapter is Ada's inner monologue.
Speaker: just wandering about everything really, the T-virus, all that stuff.
Speaker: And how she's kinda sore and tired and a little over it.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: She is deeply over it.
Speaker: You get nothing but grumpy Ada.
Speaker: They keep hinting at she just had no idea that this was going to happen today.
Speaker: She just got thrown into this.
Speaker: She's like, great, I got to work on my day off.
Speaker: This is cool.
Speaker: Yeah, it was your day off.
Speaker: That's why she's wearing a dress.
Speaker: Yeah, exactly.
Speaker: Proletarian Ada Wong.
Speaker: We love her.
Speaker: Yeah, and not her tactical red turtleneck that she wears in Resident Evil 4.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: In the next chapter, we get Leon and he's at a weapons locker.
Speaker: He's trying to gear up, but there's been a run on equipment.
Speaker: And he has a brief moment of panic about, wait, wait, wait a minute.
Speaker: Might I be infected?
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: And then he's like,
Speaker: Well, I guess there's no use worrying about it now.
Speaker: I'm either infected and I kill myself before anything happens or I don't.
Speaker: Yeah, I like that they touched on that, because that's certainly something that I would think from time to time playing Resident Evil 2.
Speaker: I'd be like, I should be infected by now, right?
Speaker: Like, that's how this works.
Speaker: These zombies keep biting my...
Speaker: They keep biting my neck.
Speaker: These smooth lines are eating me and I need to, I don't know what's going on.
Speaker: The weopards are eating my face.
Speaker: Right, right.
Speaker: And so, yeah, I appreciated at least some nod to the fear of that.
Speaker: I thought that was, that was smart.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: So Leon is in the garage investigating a dog and he meets Ada Wong.
Speaker: And let me tell you, we've already met Ada Wong several times.
Speaker: But from Leon's point of view, she gets the full she gets the full S.D.
Speaker: Perry treatment.
Speaker: Oh, Leon, Leon, you naughty, naughty scamp.
Speaker: Someone's got a crush.
Speaker: The description is like, yeah, she's got boots and heels and thighs and that dress.
Speaker: Oh, God.
Speaker: He truly does.
Speaker: He modern country songs all over her.
Speaker: He's just like that short, short dress and the long, long legs.
Speaker: Just absolutely wonderful.
Speaker: I really appreciate that S.D.
Speaker: Perry did not like...
Speaker: She didn't describe, she described Ada before, but then she re-describes Ada from the point of view of a 20-year-old's cop.
Speaker: You know, it's so smart.
Speaker: It's, it's actually, it's actually incredibly smart because that's, yeah, that's totally different.
Speaker: And this is how Leon sees her.
Speaker: Oh, Leon is tugging at the collar.
Speaker: Oh, hello nurse.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Full on plumes of smoke rising up from under his collar.
Speaker: She is all femme and all fatale.
Speaker: Oh, yes.
Speaker: Oh, so Leon, of course, it helps to agrees to help her look for the reporter that she's looking for, because Ada is just looking for her boyfriend and the boy and the reporter might know where where where he is.
Speaker: Yeah, that's all.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: She's just looking for her boyfriend.
Speaker: Just helping out.
Speaker: Uh, chapter 13.
Speaker: We got Claire and, uh, Sherry's run off.
Speaker: Claire doesn't know where she is.
Speaker: Uh, so she goes back to Brian Irons, his office, but he's gone.
Speaker: And so is the body of the mayor's daughter.
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: So Claire says, yeah, never a good sign.
Speaker: Never a good sign.
Speaker: Claire assesses her priorities and adds finding Sherry to the list.
Speaker: Meanwhile, uh,
Speaker: there's a thump that comes from the roof of the building.
Speaker: And she's like, Oh, I don't know what that is.
Speaker: Could that be a thing that Sherry was scared of?
Speaker: So she goes around walking around the hallways to investigate and she walks around the corner and here comes Mr. X in all his glory resplendent.
Speaker: You know, it's such a great, uh, uh, uh, introduction.
Speaker: It's wonderful.
Speaker: He's got the so in the remake, they just made his his trench coat just straight up black, which I have a feeling it was green in the original because it was harder to pull off like it being just jet black and also looking detailed.
Speaker: I feel like it was, but I'm going to look it up here.
Speaker: Well, it's meant and it's mentioned in the description that it's a long like forest green trench coat or something like that.
Speaker: Right.
Speaker: And S.D.
Speaker: Perry's description.
Speaker: So I have a feeling it was like green with the intention of like, but it's really black.
Speaker: Yeah, it's almost like an olive drab kind of military looking jacket.
Speaker: Yeah, so he shows up and he is terrifying.
Speaker: He's got that white face with the skull and Claire decides, oh shit, and she just empties her gun into him.
Speaker: And she shoots him seven times and he takes a knee and she's like, okay, well, I killed him.
Speaker: I guess this isn't the monster that I don't think this is the monster that scared Sherry off because Mr. X was more like some soulless machine, bloodless flesh that could ignore pain or embrace it is Claire's description of it.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: That's a pretty good description of it.
Speaker: That's not bad.
Speaker: So Claire isn't sure what to do.
Speaker: She just kind of stands in the hallway like, what the fuck do I do?
Speaker: Mr. X wakes up as he does when you... He doesn't ever actually die.
Speaker: He just kind of takes a breather.
Speaker: He's like, I just got to take a moment.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: I'm just going to be down here for a second.
Speaker: I just needed a minute.
Speaker: I'll be right with you.
Speaker: I'll be right with you.
Speaker: Mr. X wakes up and takes a big old swing at Claire.
Speaker: She dodges and runs past him and just...
Speaker: She just keeps going.
Speaker: She's just going to run.
Speaker: Just going to spend some time running.
Speaker: We cut to Ada.
Speaker: Ada and Leon have found Ben in a cell and Ada begins interrogating him about what he knows.
Speaker: And Ben's like, I'm not going to tell you.
Speaker: Why would I do that?
Speaker: That would be stupid.
Speaker: Why would I do that?
Speaker: That would be stupid.
Speaker: I'm in the safest spot right now in the city, which I think is a different, different between the original and the remake.
Speaker: I think in the remake, the guy's like, you got to let me out of here.
Speaker: Please help me.
Speaker: Please help me.
Speaker: So and it is like, all right, well, this is useless.
Speaker: And in her internal monologue is like, all right, well, do I just kill everyone now?
Speaker: Do I just kill Leon and Ben and fuck off?
Speaker: Like this is pointless.
Speaker: So she's like, all right, well, no, I'm not going to kill Leon and I can't kill Ben while Leon's here.
Speaker: So and then she just like runs down the hallway.
Speaker: It's pretty great.
Speaker: She probably, over the course of this book, probably considers killing slash leaving Leon to die, I don't know, maybe 500 times.
Speaker: It's once a chapter.
Speaker: Yeah, once a chapter, she considers, should I just kill him now?
Speaker: I should just do it.
Speaker: Right, right.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: But he becomes far more puppy-ish as the book goes on, and even Ada Wong won't kill a puppy.
Speaker: Even Ada Wong won't kill a puppy.
Speaker: That's right.
Speaker: She has killed probably some of the dogs in the course of... Without question.
Speaker: thinning out the mansion.
Speaker: Oh, thinning out the police station rather.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: And she has 100% been to just a regular garden variety dog fight.
Speaker: 100%.
Speaker: Just even if it was on like a mission where she's undercover or something, but you know, she's seen some fucked up shit.
Speaker: She's been to dog fights.
Speaker: She's been to cock fights.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: And she's been to cock fights.
Speaker: Exactly.
Speaker: But puppies...
Speaker: She's staring clear of my friend.
Speaker: She's not going to hurt a puppy.
Speaker: Even a long's got a limit.
Speaker: Chapter 14, Brian Irons.
Speaker: He's not going to get into it too much.
Speaker: He's just really fucking creepy in this chapter.
Speaker: And he's just thinking about taxidermying the girl's body.
Speaker: And he's also just like, it's also a lot of background information about his corruption and how he got paid, how the, like the Birkins paid him $300,000 to overlook things.
Speaker: And,
Speaker: All that shit.
Speaker: So that's most of his motivation in one chapter.
Speaker: Chapter 14, we cut to Claire.
Speaker: She has made her way over to the Star's office.
Speaker: Now, she is...
Speaker: went from one wing of the, to the bill of the building to the other, just by sprinting, which is amazing given that she just didn't have to unlock 15 doors.
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: Everything, you know, when you don't have to find 19 different themed keys, things seem to clip along very nicely.
Speaker: So yeah, she just gets there.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: So Claire's in the star's office.
Speaker: There's not much there.
Speaker: And she's thinking about Chris while sitting at his desk and she strengthening her resolve.
Speaker: Claire, though, is running out of ammo and having trouble getting the thought of Mr. X out of her mind.
Speaker: But she's like, well, fuck it.
Speaker: Gotta gotta do something.
Speaker: Gotta go.
Speaker: Gotta keep moving.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: So she goes out of the star's office in and into the hallway and she
Speaker: meets a liquor for the first time.
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: And there is some really good description of of what the liquor is.
Speaker: I want to I think I highlighted it.
Speaker: Let me just let me just bring it up.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: A second.
Speaker: I'm going to I'm going to go here.
Speaker: Let me just make sure I actually highlighted it in my notes.
Speaker: Um.
Speaker: Oh, God.
Speaker: I'm just looking at some.
Speaker: Oh, you know what it was?
Speaker: It was like it was like Lovecraftian the way it was kind of described.
Speaker: And she looked up, still not sure what she was seeing or hearing.
Speaker: That ragged breathing and the tick of talons on the wood.
Speaker: The talons themselves thick and curved.
Speaker: The claw of a creature that couldn't exist.
Speaker: big, the size of a full grown man, but the resemblance ended, ended there.
Speaker: And it was so impossible that she could only see it in pieces, her mind struggling to put them together, which is like, so love crap.
Speaker: Like that's a love craft line.
Speaker: Absolutely.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: It's fantastic.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: That's exactly what it is.
Speaker: It feels very, yeah.
Speaker: The, this, the thing that should not be kind of thing.
Speaker: It's wonderful.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: The inflamed purplish flesh of the naked long limbed creature that clung to the ceiling.
Speaker: Yeah, it's it's it's great.
Speaker: I love him.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: And there's a nice little detail because the scar rimmed holes where the eyes should have been.
Speaker: There is a thought that interrupts the description of.
Speaker: Claire's single thought is not seeing this.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: I love it.
Speaker: It made me think of the, uh, the interjection from the first resident evil book of just, holy shit, it's a snake in all caps.
Speaker: It's just, it's got that feeling to it.
Speaker: It's just wonderful.
Speaker: It's terrific.
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: Um, yes.
Speaker: Overconfidence is an insidious killer.
Speaker: Um, she manages to kill it, uh, not before it scares the shit out of her, but she basically, you know, she had, she had 12 rounds left.
Speaker: She has seven left after she, she finishes shooting it, which, you know what?
Speaker: Not bad.
Speaker: As far as liquor killing skills are concerned, you know, five, not bad at all.
Speaker: Not bad.
Speaker: They, they can be a little bit spongy.
Speaker: Yeah, absolutely.
Speaker: Especially with a regular handgun.
Speaker: Oh, yeah.
Speaker: We cut to Leon.
Speaker: Chapter 15.
Speaker: Leon tracks down Ada in the kennel and she's trying to escape through a manhole, but she can't get the cover up.
Speaker: And he's like starting to realize that she's playing him a little bit.
Speaker: We're almost halfway through the book and he's like, I'm starting to think that this girl might be untowards.
Speaker: I don't know.
Speaker: I don't know if we're on the same page here.
Speaker: Miss Wong.
Speaker: Then I use, then my next note is Ada uses flirt.
Speaker: It's super effective.
Speaker: It's super effective.
Speaker: Oh, Ada.
Speaker: She knows exactly.
Speaker: She knew this kid before he was even born.
Speaker: She knows exactly what she's doing.
Speaker: Magnificent Ada.
Speaker: Leon helps her open the sewer.
Speaker: Just roll a nat 20 on seduce the dragon.
Speaker: Knock yourself out there, Ada.
Speaker: We're proud of you.
Speaker: She's just like, Leon's like, is there something you're not telling me?
Speaker: And Ada's like, I don't know.
Speaker: Is there?
Speaker: And Leon's like,
Speaker: Yeah, I'll open the door for you.
Speaker: She's got a trustworthy face.
Speaker: She's got the face and the bumps and the legs.
Speaker: I guess she's fine.
Speaker: And I'm just, it's hot in here.
Speaker: Does anyone else notice how hot in here it is?
Speaker: Why is it so darn hot in here?
Speaker: Oh, God.
Speaker: Anyway.
Speaker: Anyway.
Speaker: Then they hear Ben screaming and they go back.
Speaker: They run back towards him.
Speaker: The moment is ruined.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Ben dying.
Speaker: So the scene cuts over to Sherry, who is now in back in Iron's office looking for Claire.
Speaker: And she hears someone running down the hallway and it is Claire.
Speaker: They are reunited.
Speaker: And Sherry describes the monster that has been looking for her.
Speaker: And it is definitely not Mr. X. It is.
Speaker: It is.
Speaker: It's got brown hair and a really fucked up arm.
Speaker: It's not Sherry's words.
Speaker: But, you know, she's 12.
Speaker: I'm sure she could have said that.
Speaker: She would have said that.
Speaker: She would have said that.
Speaker: At some point, she would have said that, you know, maybe in another year or two.
Speaker: In another year or two, yeah.
Speaker: And then Sherry talks a little bit more about her life and how her parents are the worst parents
Speaker: parents in the world this is like this is like the the description of her parents is basically like every horror story i've ever heard of anyone who has dated married or been raised by engineers yeah it's just it's just this stereotype of like we have a child now anyway on to my mechanisms it's a real shame
Speaker: It's a real shame.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Uh, Sherry's like, uh, Claire's like, I'm sorry I left you alone.
Speaker: And Sherry's like, I'm used to being alone.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: She just, I love, she's just that kid who doesn't realize how emotionally damaged she has been and just blunts out the most horrifying stuff.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: So matter of factly.
Speaker: She's like, it was like days before Sherry, like her parents leave and then it's just days go by.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: And then it's like, Sherry, why don't you go to the police station?
Speaker: She's like, well, I went to my neighbor's house, but she was gone already.
Speaker: You can't even compare her to like Newt or something like that because Newt at least recognized that she was in a fucked situation.
Speaker: Sherry's just kind of like, well, they said they'd be back and they've always left and never come back.
Speaker: Sherry is the dog in the This Is Fine cartoon.
Speaker: Yes, yes.
Speaker: But is unironically saying this is fine.
Speaker: No, this is fine.
Speaker: This is how mom and dad always have been.
Speaker: Like, honestly, nothing's changed except for the zombies.
Speaker: Except for the whole dad being a horrifying eyeball mutant thing.
Speaker: That's a little weird.
Speaker: But the rest of it's about the same.
Speaker: Which Sherry doesn't even know yet.
Speaker: Yeah, exactly.
Speaker: She doesn't even know that it's her dad.
Speaker: So it's right on point with what she's used to, frankly.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: So Sherry and Claire investigate the office for anything of use, and Claire finds a blood stain on the floor that should also be on the wall, but isn't.
Speaker: And they look around and they find a switch for the door, and it reveals an elevator, and Claire's like, now Sherry...
Speaker: I'm going to leave you alone again.
Speaker: How about you be real cool, Sherry?
Speaker: And don't fuck this up for me.
Speaker: And well, and and Claire's like, now, Sherry, the designers didn't want to deal with a kid.
Speaker: tagging along so at this point we gotta part ways for a moment just a little bit just a little bit but you'll be fine sherry's upset she's like well claire's just another adult who lies great yeah yeah which yeah again she's used to this she's used to it uh chapter 16 we get an annette birkin point of view yes
Speaker: She is in a monitor room looking at security cameras for any sign of William.
Speaker: She wants to destroy the lab and him and all the other monsters and the samples of the G-Virus so that Umbrella can't have it.
Speaker: And then she wants to sell it to another bidder.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Also, Annette doesn't seem to know that the police station was overrun.
Speaker: She's like, she's like, ah, the police are, you know, Sherry's fine.
Speaker: The police, the police got her.
Speaker: She's just a stellar mom.
Speaker: Just stellar mom.
Speaker: Just the best.
Speaker: Just momming like you wouldn't believe.
Speaker: Um, chapter 17, Ada Wong, uh, point of view, Leon and Ada find bell, Ben out of his cell.
Speaker: And he is clearly dying.
Speaker: Um, Ben tells Ada about what he knows about umbrella and chief irons, which Ada already knows.
Speaker: So she's like, ah, this poor dumb schmuck.
Speaker: Like, yeah, he just wasn't even useful.
Speaker: There's now he just died for nothing.
Speaker: Like absolutely useless.
Speaker: Um,
Speaker: Amazing.
Speaker: Well done.
Speaker: It's like this is an info dump for Leon, but for Ada, it's like this is useless.
Speaker: Just useless.
Speaker: So that's why I really love the fact that we get a lot of these point of views from, from Ada, like Ada already knowing this shit.
Speaker: It's just like really turns it on its head and be like, it's not a mist you fucker.
Speaker: It's perfect.
Speaker: It's perfect because it like it's, we've talked about this, this book series before where it's like Perry, uh, she jumps ahead of the puzzles.
Speaker: We don't, we don't get the tedious puzzles over and over again.
Speaker: And now we're doing it emotionally and expositionally where it's just like if Leon was here, he'd go, what?
Speaker: But Ada Wong just chief irons.
Speaker: You fucking idiot.
Speaker: Oh, what a waste of flesh.
Speaker: Great.
Speaker: He's like, he's like, he didn't know about the G virus.
Speaker: He didn't know about anything.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Shitty NPC.
Speaker: Are you?
Speaker: And then an alien baby erupts from his chest and it just, hello, my babies on out of the room on out of the room.
Speaker: Yep.
Speaker: Yep.
Speaker: It's just Michigan J. Frogs right on out of there.
Speaker: I always forget that's his name.
Speaker: What a good name.
Speaker: Oh, God.
Speaker: Hello, my baby.
Speaker: Hello, my darling.
Speaker: Hello, my rat-time girl.
Speaker: And it's gone.
Speaker: And it's gone.
Speaker: Oh, you got your fist.
Speaker: I got my fist.
Speaker: So at this point, Ada decides to nope on out of this mission.
Speaker: Gets the shit out of there.
Speaker: She's like, this is about the time I should just leave.
Speaker: And she goes to leave.
Speaker: But Leon's like, I'm coming with you.
Speaker: And she's like.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Fine.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: She really does.
Speaker: Like, you can tell that in her mind.
Speaker: She's like, well, he'll absorb a few zombie bites.
Speaker: That'll be fine.
Speaker: That's just fine.
Speaker: One more warm body.
Speaker: Fine, fine.
Speaker: Just let him come along.
Speaker: I'm not going to feed him, though.
Speaker: I'm not going to feed him.
Speaker: He's on his own for food.
Speaker: And what's hilarious is like,
Speaker: They are only a couple of years apart.
Speaker: Like, you know, Leon is 20.
Speaker: We don't get an age for Ada, but I'm going to assume like, I'm going to say like 25 or something.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: 25 pushing 40, you know?
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Well, that's just it.
Speaker: Ada has lived.
Speaker: Ada, you know, wait,
Speaker: When in Resident Evil 4, Leon by this time is this jaded, gruff, you know, still a dork, but he's seen some shit kind of guy.
Speaker: Ada is in Resident Evil 4 right now.
Speaker: She's already there.
Speaker: She's already there.
Speaker: She's already there.
Speaker: And Leon's in Resident Evil 2, you know, as he should be.
Speaker: Yes, exactly.
Speaker: As he should be.
Speaker: Um, so, uh, we, we jump over to Claire, um, and Claire is standing at a medieval door at the end of a hallway.
Speaker: And she's like, should I go in?
Speaker: And she does.
Speaker: She goes inside.
Speaker: She goes inside and she finds an empty room with a bunch of cutting utensils on a table in the middle.
Speaker: And whoops, Brian Irons is like hiding in the shadows and he has Claire dead to rights.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Um, we cut back over to Leon, uh, chapter 18, uh, Leon and Ada are going into the sewers where they find a lot of dead bodies that were left over from the initial police station attack.
Speaker: Um, and they fight a giant spider.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: They murder the shit out of it.
Speaker: They just killed the fuck out of that spider.
Speaker: And then Ada's like,
Speaker: Let's go.
Speaker: And she runs off into the hall.
Speaker: That's kind of one of her best moves.
Speaker: She kind of like, she just like, they work together for about five minutes and then she goes, Oh, something over there.
Speaker: I better go and just fucking halls ass and, and leaves.
Speaker: I think somebody's calling me from down the hallway.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Oh, look, a distraction.
Speaker: I've got to go see about that.
Speaker: Leon, behind you, a three-headed monkey.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: He turns.
Speaker: There's just an Ada-shaped cloud, like, mid-run.
Speaker: He turns, and Guybrush Threepwood is standing there.
Speaker: He's...
Speaker: And suddenly Leon's in Monkey Island.
Speaker: I need you to know that I would pay so much money for a LucasArts Resident Evil point-and-click adventure game.
Speaker: I would pay full price on launch day.
Speaker: For that.
Speaker: For a nine verb fucking risen and evil puzzle game.
Speaker: That would be amazing.
Speaker: Amazing.
Speaker: Absolutely.
Speaker: It's a miracle that has meant to happen.
Speaker: That is all there is to it.
Speaker: I agree.
Speaker: I agree.
Speaker: We jump back to Brian Irons and he has Claire at gunpoint and he thinks that she is an umbrella agent and begins interrogating her.
Speaker: And she's like, no, I'm here to find my brother, Chris Redfield.
Speaker: And he's like, oh, yeah, you do look like a Redfield.
Speaker: I hate Chris.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: It doesn't help her situation at all.
Speaker: Yeah, just completely wrong reputation for her.
Speaker: Yeah, should have just stayed quiet.
Speaker: So my next note is, even when murdery Irons is horny, because...
Speaker: I especially when murdery, I get the impression.
Speaker: So I highlighted this.
Speaker: He could see it in the way she stumbled back, her lips trembling, her young chest heaving in a most delicious way.
Speaker: I mean, you can't you cannot negate points for accuracy on fucking creepers.
Speaker: It's not, Miss Perry, it's not that you're not correct.
Speaker: It's that it makes us uncomfortable.
Speaker: I just saw that line and I couldn't.
Speaker: I was like, oh, God.
Speaker: No.
Speaker: I mean, yes, true.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: This is his thought process.
Speaker: I agree.
Speaker: Yep.
Speaker: 100%.
Speaker: The phrase just really, you know, the heaving.
Speaker: The heaving.
Speaker: Heaving is a bummer of a word.
Speaker: And it's underrated in terms of gross words that no one should or likes to say.
Speaker: You know, it's a bummer.
Speaker: Yeah, I want to say, what's your name?
Speaker: In Clue, I want to say there's a line.
Speaker: Oh, Madeline Kahn's like, heaving breaths.
Speaker: Flames, flames on the side of my face.
Speaker: Flames on the side of my face.
Speaker: Heaving breaths.
Speaker: That was one of my earliest crushes.
Speaker: Madeline Kahn was one of my earliest crushes.
Speaker: Madeline Kahn.
Speaker: Listen, you kids listening to this, if there's kids listening to this, stop listening.
Speaker: Your parents should not be letting you listen to us.
Speaker: But also, go watch some things with Madeline Kahn in it.
Speaker: She was a comedic
Speaker: God, just her timing and everything.
Speaker: The last thing I believe she was on was, do you remember Bill Cosby's second TV show?
Speaker: It was like his, it was like late 90s, early 2000s.
Speaker: And it was him and Felicia Rashad again.
Speaker: They were playing different characters, but it was like Madeline Kahn was in it as the neighbor.
Speaker: Like, I've not heard of this.
Speaker: Cosby is it just called Cosby?
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: That's wild.
Speaker: I have never heard of this.
Speaker: It was just called Cosby.
Speaker: And I remember, uh, Madeline con was, was in it and it was, uh, six to 2000.
Speaker: Wow.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: That's weird.
Speaker: I don't like that.
Speaker: I like, I like that.
Speaker: Even when he had a good reputation, he had a TV show that we all just agreed to forget about.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: She's on 83, 83 episodes of Cosby.
Speaker: Um, yeah.
Speaker: And that was her last work.
Speaker: That was her last work.
Speaker: Oh, what a bummer.
Speaker: Poor Ms.
Speaker: Khan.
Speaker: What?
Speaker: Yeah, I mean, it was the last.
Speaker: Yeah, it was.
Speaker: It was the thing that aired the it was.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Anyway.
Speaker: Anyway, Bill Cosby.
Speaker: Not great.
Speaker: Not not Madeline Kahn.
Speaker: Madeline Kahn.
Speaker: Amazing.
Speaker: If anything, go watch Clue.
Speaker: She is.
Speaker: In a stacked cast of actors, Madeline Kahn is possibly the best person in that movie.
Speaker: Yeah, in a cast where there are no weak links.
Speaker: There are zero weak links in that cast.
Speaker: None.
Speaker: None whatsoever.
Speaker: It's amazing.
Speaker: So...
Speaker: Irons, corners Claire, but just before he's gonna do bad things to her, he gets attacked by a tentacle that wraps around his ankle and pulls him away.
Speaker: And then we're in chapter 19 and Claire reacts to irons being taken.
Speaker: And then she hears the monster screaming from nearby and then iron screaming for his life until he stops.
Speaker: And then there's some bubbly sounds.
Speaker: Claire is about to leave the room when the monster throws irons bisected body back into the room.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Uh, and Claire's like, no, this, this is the monster that Sherry was talking about.
Speaker: Um, so she throws a tarp over the, over Irons' body and she's like, all right, well, let me go get Sherry.
Speaker: Chapter 19 continued where in Ada's point of view, Ada ran ahead because she needed to plant the keys that she was holding.
Speaker: She already had the keys because she already solved the damn puzzles.
Speaker: She needed to plant the keys somewhere ahead so that she didn't have to come up with an excuse of why she already had the keys.
Speaker: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
Speaker: And she uses the excuse of, I hate spiders as the reason why she... Fine.
Speaker: I'll allow it.
Speaker: You know, just... I'll allow it.
Speaker: Ada begins flirting with him really hard.
Speaker: Really hardcore.
Speaker: And one of my favorite lines in the book...
Speaker: comes up where she realizes that Leon isn't totally buying her flirting.
Speaker: She says, well, he's not a fool for his tool.
Speaker: Good line.
Speaker: Good line.
Speaker: Not a fool for his tool.
Speaker: Well done.
Speaker: I was like,
Speaker: No notes 10 out of 10 If anything Leon is not a fool for his tool No Not a dork for his dork No Not a dork for his pork No
Speaker: Not a dick for his dick.
Speaker: Wait, no.
Speaker: Leon's like, so where'd you learn to shoot?
Speaker: And Ada's like, paintball.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: And she's like, I'm not sure if Leon is buying this.
Speaker: Yeah, yeah.
Speaker: Internal monologue is like, I don't know.
Speaker: I'm running on fumes here.
Speaker: I literally expected her to like slowly turn to him and go, do you buy that?
Speaker: Because just...
Speaker: Is that?
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Okay.
Speaker: Paintball then.
Speaker: Paintball.
Speaker: And meet up with the girls.
Speaker: And he kind of does.
Speaker: Like he doesn't, but he kind of does.
Speaker: It's weird.
Speaker: And Leon finds the keys that she tossed, but they are interrupted by the implant that had been in Ben turning into...
Speaker: just some horrible womb monster that has crabs, uh, spewing out of it.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: And just, just grotesque.
Speaker: And, uh, they, it, it really was a, the way it's described is like, this feels like a splatter house boss.
Speaker: Yeah, totally.
Speaker: Totally.
Speaker: Totally.
Speaker: That really over the top gross out.
Speaker: Yeah, absolutely.
Speaker: It was like, I was like, I don't remember this from Resident Evil 2.
Speaker: Did this happen?
Speaker: I can't remember.
Speaker: I don't remember either, to be honest.
Speaker: Anyway, it grows and swells and turns into a giant womb monster.
Speaker: And there's these bioluminescent crabs that start spewing out of it.
Speaker: And they're green.
Speaker: They're fighting off the crabs and.
Speaker: They're attacking Ada and they're on Ada's skirt and tearing at her, her dress.
Speaker: And, uh, Leon runs out of shotgun ammo and Ada beats it to death.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: The shotgun.
Speaker: Awesome.
Speaker: I'm back.
Speaker: I'm in.
Speaker: Um, and then when they fight it off, they, they, you know, continue having moments and Leon's like paintball, huh?
Speaker: Good for you, Leon.
Speaker: Real proud of you, bud.
Speaker: You got there.
Speaker: You got there.
Speaker: You got there.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: We're in chapter 20 now.
Speaker: And in a Sherry point of view, Sherry has gone down to the Irons torture chamber and sees how gross it is.
Speaker: And despite Claire's attempts to avoid the tarp, Sherry puts two and two together that Irons have been chopped up or something.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: And Sherry's like, I don't even know why she bothered trying to hide this thing.
Speaker: I don't think any of us do.
Speaker: It's ridiculous.
Speaker: I can't tell you how much I love this book.
Speaker: I mean, it's like every moment is just turns it up a little bit more because it's like Claire and Leon are, they are the, you know, these Pollyanna, like do-gooder and everybody around them is like, even the kid is like these fucking people, these fuckers are like,
Speaker: Like, I appreciate, Sherry's like, I appreciate, I appreciate what Claire's doing here, but why did she even bother hiding the body?
Speaker: Right.
Speaker: It's fantastic.
Speaker: It's kind of like she kind of we get these little glimpses behind the eyes of people who are more like regular people watching a video game being played.
Speaker: We're like, wait, why did you do that?
Speaker: That's there's no point of that.
Speaker: It's fantastic.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: So they continue down into the basement near some sort of waste treatment plant.
Speaker: And Sherry likes Claire because even though she's not, she's Sherry's very aware of the situation they're in.
Speaker: She appreciates Claire's effort to hide her from the worst of it.
Speaker: She's like, yeah, she doesn't have to.
Speaker: I I've seen worse already in my life.
Speaker: I saw a police station full of cops get torn apart by zombies.
Speaker: But, you know, she makes an effort.
Speaker: Exactly.
Speaker: As soon as they start trudging through the wastewater, Mr. X shows up and they run down the treatment water and they get to a big door and they shut it.
Speaker: But something about the water current pulls Sherry away and down into another tunnel.
Speaker: Hey, there's a munchkin.
Speaker: Munchkin with a dab.
Speaker: And just a reminder, this is wastewater.
Speaker: Uh-huh.
Speaker: She wakes, yeah, with her in her mouth.
Speaker: This is poo water.
Speaker: Poo water.
Speaker: Delightful.
Speaker: This is, even if you survive, this is going to be some sort of...
Speaker: everyone's got infections that are going to need to be there after this yardia, uh, sepsis.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Everyone's, everyone's sick.
Speaker: Like, like everyone's going to come out of this alive maybe, but you're going to need like a, a lot of antibiotics.
Speaker: All the antibiotics.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Um,
Speaker: And to close out this section of the book, we get back to Annette.
Speaker: Annette is in the sewer.
Speaker: She's running.
Speaker: She's moving through.
Speaker: She's finally figured out that William had to have left the laboratory area.
Speaker: So she's going up.
Speaker: She's going up while all of our other characters are going down.
Speaker: And while she's walking, she sees a couple of people and she's like, ah, they're from Umbrella.
Speaker: And she just shoots at them.
Speaker: And she hits the one that is the male.
Speaker: And she's like, and Annette's like, I'm away.
Speaker: Ha ha.
Speaker: And Annette smoke bombs away.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: So, you know, like she shoots, she shoots Leon.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: That's where we leave it.
Speaker: Berking away.
Speaker: Just berking away.
Speaker: Smoke pop.
Speaker: Man.
Speaker: How are you enjoying it so far, Phil?
Speaker: I gotta say, when we first started this show, the first Resident Evil book, it was like, yeah, you know what?
Speaker: This is surprisingly good.
Speaker: This is really enjoyable.
Speaker: And with the second book, Caliban Cove, I know we really, we were like, okay, now we're having a lot of fun with some original stuff.
Speaker: This is kooky and zany and fun.
Speaker: S.D.
Speaker: Perry's having fun.
Speaker: So are we.
Speaker: This is where she finally is like, oh, no, this franchise belongs to me.
Speaker: She is kicking so much ass.
Speaker: This is the best one so far without a question.
Speaker: I love her take on the Resident Evil universe.
Speaker: It almost makes me wish that...
Speaker: there had been more, um, kind of more two way, like influence.
Speaker: Obviously she's a writer for hire.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: You know, she's way down the food chain.
Speaker: She's, she is just hired by like, you know, the publisher gets the rights and then they hire her.
Speaker: And it's like cap capcom's like,
Speaker: Yeah, great.
Speaker: You know, another income source.
Speaker: They're not even really paying attention to what she's doing.
Speaker: They're like, okay, did you fuck up royally?
Speaker: No.
Speaker: Okay, fine.
Speaker: Whatever.
Speaker: Very good.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Cool.
Speaker: So, yeah.
Speaker: But, and I've heard so many people talk about how on different, you know,
Speaker: like YouTube videos or whatever the off offhandedly reference Davis on the scary game squad.
Speaker: Well, occasionally referenced the fact that he read these books when he was a kid.
Speaker: And it's just funny to think about that.
Speaker: It was such a big part of a lot of young people's resident evil fandom.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Growing up.
Speaker: And that, you know, I think a lot of people forget that they're still there and they're still very good.
Speaker: They're still very good.
Speaker: Yeah, and they maintain a bit of a tighter canon than the games did.
Speaker: Yes, yes, they absolutely do.
Speaker: If you're willing to just be cool about the fact that a lot of this is out of date compared to the canon these days, then it's still so damn good.
Speaker: It's still so fucking good.
Speaker: It's great.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: So with all of that being said,
Speaker: What are you playing?
Speaker: Oh.
Speaker: I was trying to see how long I could make that pause, how pregnant that pause could get.
Speaker: That pregnant was ready to burst is what it was.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Well, I finished Dredge.
Speaker: Absolutely loved it, as if there was any doubt.
Speaker: Oh, you finally did the...
Speaker: The quote unquote good ending did you get around to or?
Speaker: I did not.
Speaker: I just beat it.
Speaker: I want to come back to it at some point this year and play and just really do it up a little bit.
Speaker: But it's just, I really loved that game.
Speaker: It just felt good to explore.
Speaker: It felt good to investigate and everything like that.
Speaker: It ticked a lot of boxes for me and I really enjoyed my time with it.
Speaker: Outside of that, I actually have been playing a lot of Far Cry 6.
Speaker: Yeah, because it finally is on Steam and not just on the Epic Store.
Speaker: And to celebrate, they made it 15 bucks.
Speaker: So what was I going to do?
Speaker: I've been playing all the Far Cry games basically since 3.
Speaker: And it's nonstop for me.
Speaker: And now so I've got to I've got to give this one a shot.
Speaker: And I'm about, I don't know, six, seven hours into it, which means I've just started for all intents and purposes.
Speaker: But it's it's it's OK.
Speaker: It's all right.
Speaker: It's it's.
Speaker: I don't like it as much as the other ones.
Speaker: It's probably the weakest of the modern Far Cry games.
Speaker: You don't improve yourself.
Speaker: You're just looking for better guns and upgrading the guns, which feels like it's kind of missing the point on a lot of the themes that Far Cry would investigate.
Speaker: Right.
Speaker: It feels like they've simplified it a lot.
Speaker: It makes me think of the complaints I heard from some people about going from Morrowind to Oblivion, where they simplified a lot of the aspects of it, and it's still clearly of its franchise,
Speaker: but it just doesn't scratch the itch quite as well as previous incarnations of it.
Speaker: I also think that the villain is right now very bland compared to other villains and Far Cry has kind of always existed on its bad guys.
Speaker: Yeah, the villains are pretty much, they steal the show normally.
Speaker: Absolutely.
Speaker: But I'm having fun wrecking shit in paradise, which has always been the Far Cry way.
Speaker: So I know I'll play it to the end, unless it gets really, really fucking bad.
Speaker: But so far, I'm enjoying it.
Speaker: What about you, Kevin?
Speaker: What do you plan?
Speaker: Let's see, I have a whole slew of things that I've kind of started playing with.
Speaker: I think I talked last week a little bit about Shadows of Doubt, which is, actually no, we did not do What Are You Playing Last Week?
Speaker: That's right, because we did our 100th episode special.
Speaker: Okay, Shadows of Doubt is a procedural M-Sim or immersive simulation that is, you play as a detective and you're in a city that's, you know, you can generate the city.
Speaker: It could be like small, medium, or large.
Speaker: The medium one is like four city blocks or something like that in terms of size.
Speaker: And, uh, the, you are investigating murder cases and the murder cases are random.
Speaker: Like, so there's, there's a random victim and then it, you know, there's like the, uh, the perpetrator and the clues and all that stuff.
Speaker: Um, so it's really fascinating.
Speaker: Um,
Speaker: It's still early days.
Speaker: It's early access on it, but it's worth checking out if you're into M-SIMS and that kind of procedural generation stuff.
Speaker: It's hard to totally explain everything that's cool about it, but I'll just say go and check it out.
Speaker: Maybe watch a couple videos on it and you can start to see what's going on under the surface.
Speaker: What's the name of that again?
Speaker: Shadows of Doubt.
Speaker: Yeah, I definitely want to check that out.
Speaker: That sounds interesting.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: And the other... I've been playing Power Wash Simulator a lot just because... Nice.
Speaker: I just needed something to vibe, you know?
Speaker: I just needed to chill.
Speaker: Yeah, why not?
Speaker: Right now I'm cleaning Lara Croft's mansion.
Speaker: So, you know, why not?
Speaker: Because it is this...
Speaker: It's funny.
Speaker: I didn't realize this, but Power Wash Simulator is a Square Enix game.
Speaker: It's published by Square Enix.
Speaker: Oh, I didn't know that.
Speaker: So it has like clean Lara Cross Mansion in there, which the recent Tomb Raider games were Square Enix, right?
Speaker: Were published by them?
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: Yes, published by them.
Speaker: The first two were Crystal Dynamics.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Let's see.
Speaker: What else have I been playing?
Speaker: I have purchased Darkest Dungeon 2.
Speaker: Okay, I'm going to need to hear your review on that when the time comes.
Speaker: I'm hearing a lot of mixed messaging on that one.
Speaker: Yeah, I haven't played it yet, but I got it.
Speaker: And we'll see.
Speaker: We'll see how it goes.
Speaker: It's still in early access, I believe.
Speaker: Is it?
Speaker: I didn't know that.
Speaker: Okay.
Speaker: Maybe.
Speaker: That could make a difference.
Speaker: That could make a big difference.
Speaker: Yeah, we'll see.
Speaker: And what else?
Speaker: Because of...
Speaker: because I watched a video by Super Eyepatch Wolf about fear and hunger.
Speaker: A RPG Maker game.
Speaker: I'm familiar with this video, yes.
Speaker: That has been stuck in my head ever since.
Speaker: Sort of like how he talks about in the video how it never...
Speaker: left his brain.
Speaker: After watching the video, I was like, I became slightly obsessed with fear and hunger.
Speaker: I was like, I was like looking up everything about it.
Speaker: I bought the game and I tried it out for a little bit.
Speaker: It's definitely a game for me of like, I'll watch videos on.
Speaker: After playing it, I was like, yes, no, it's a game I'll watch videos on rather than actually get involved with.
Speaker: Right, right.
Speaker: I played it for like 10 minutes.
Speaker: I'm like, nope, I'm good.
Speaker: Ah, see.
Speaker: That's very pathologic for me.
Speaker: It's like, I'm going to watch a lot of videos about this.
Speaker: I'm going to watch every goddamn video on pathologic ever made and not play it.
Speaker: Yes, exactly.
Speaker: I'm glad it's there.
Speaker: I'm glad lots of nerds like to talk about it.
Speaker: I'm interested.
Speaker: And that's that.
Speaker: That's where we leave.
Speaker: I have tried and played to bounce off Pathologic 2 five times maybe now.
Speaker: It is just an unforgiving little game.
Speaker: And it's like you're playing it and you're like, oh, this is so there's so much neat stuff in it.
Speaker: but it's just, ah.
Speaker: I mean, yeah.
Speaker: It's like a lot of things.
Speaker: It's kind of like John Waters for me, if I'm being completely honest.
Speaker: It's one of those things where it's like, I appreciate what you're doing.
Speaker: I want you to be around, and I want you to keep making this stuff.
Speaker: I'm not going to watch it, but I'm sure that it means a lot to someone else, so.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: And I'm glad it means a lot to them.
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: Moving on.
Speaker: Moving on.
Speaker: And I'm moving on.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: That's my full review on Pathologic.
Speaker: I feel like that could be a lot more people could take that...
Speaker: tact with criticism, critique, and review.
Speaker: Oh, absolutely.
Speaker: Or a lot of people lean way too hard into, I hate this thing, and also nobody should like it, you know?
Speaker: Yeah, I've always felt that way.
Speaker: Just because I don't like it doesn't mean that it's bad.
Speaker: It just means it's not for me.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: I totally agree.
Speaker: At the risk of angering his stands, that's basically how Dunkey reviews everything.
Speaker: Yeah, pretty much.
Speaker: He hates JRPGs, and therefore...
Speaker: He thinks they should be.
Speaker: They're terrible.
Speaker: Right.
Speaker: I know it's a bit, but whatever.
Speaker: It's a bit, but yeah, it's still.
Speaker: He's also an asshole.
Speaker: It gets exhausting after a while.
Speaker: And let's see.
Speaker: Finally on the list of things that I have been playing recently is Far Cry 6 too.
Speaker: Because as you said, it was on sale for $15.
Speaker: And listen, I can't not play.
Speaker: I mean, I played.
Speaker: I didn't try Far Cry until you were like Far Cry 5 is you were you love Far Cry 5.
Speaker: And I'm like, OK, I'm going to play Far Cry 5.
Speaker: And then I played Far Cry 5.
Speaker: And I was like,
Speaker: Oh, okay.
Speaker: It's like, it's good.
Speaker: The gunplay is really good.
Speaker: And Far Cry 6, I understand your concerns with it, but it's like, oh, the gunplay is still very good.
Speaker: It still feels good to shoot people.
Speaker: Oh, without question.
Speaker: It feels great.
Speaker: There's no, yeah.
Speaker: And that's the thing.
Speaker: That's why I'm still playing it.
Speaker: It feels terrific.
Speaker: It's not the same, but it has enough of that little num num num that will keep me going for a while.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: At least until Bolt Gun comes out.
Speaker: Until Boltgun comes out.
Speaker: That's correct.
Speaker: And then see you motherfuckers later.
Speaker: That's Warhammer 40K, right?
Speaker: That's the Warhammer 40K Doom clone over-the-top ripoff thing.
Speaker: And I'm like, this is going to be... Even if it's bad, I'm going to really enjoy it.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: And then Space Marines 2 is coming out this year, isn't it?
Speaker: This is a motherfucker of a year for your old pal Phil, Kevin.
Speaker: I want you to know that.
Speaker: Let me go over a few of the games that are coming out this year that I'm going to need to play.
Speaker: Aliens Dark Descent, which is a real-time strategy aliens game, which
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: A new Vampire the Masquerade swung song.
Speaker: Not the Bloodlines 2 we wanted, but that'll scratch an itch, I'm sure.
Speaker: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game, which I know basically nothing about, but I know I'll play.
Speaker: Let's see.
Speaker: Oh, War Hospital.
Speaker: It's literally a strategy simulation game where you just run a hospital during war times.
Speaker: That's fucked.
Speaker: That's...
Speaker: Sure.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: It's got a very, it's, is it like two, is it like a two point, uh, hospital or like theme hospital, but it's wartime.
Speaker: It's no, I don't know.
Speaker: I never played those, but it's got a real flavor of, uh, of this war of mine.
Speaker: It's a bummer.
Speaker: Uh, we've got, uh, yeah, bummer.
Speaker: I'm afraid.
Speaker: So, uh, Robo cop robes or rogue city, uh, uh, I'm even going to fucking play armored core six.
Speaker: Look at that shit.
Speaker: I'm playing.
Speaker: Look at that.
Speaker: You're,
Speaker: Look at that.
Speaker: You are looking forward to a FromSoft game.
Speaker: How is that possible?
Speaker: I know.
Speaker: And I'm playing it.
Speaker: It looks amazing.
Speaker: But it's got mechs, so it's got an extra in for you.
Speaker: Exactly.
Speaker: Exactly.
Speaker: I've got to kick the door down on that one and give it a shot.
Speaker: There's just so much going on this year with these games, and I've just got to learn to take it easy here.
Speaker: Because I'm an adult with an expendable income, and that could go real pear-shaped if you're not careful.
Speaker: It could go by fast.
Speaker: And I recommend, if it's on sale, I recommend trying out Terminator Resistance.
Speaker: That is on my list, yes.
Speaker: That is because they are the folks that are making the RoboCop.
Speaker: That looks really intriguing.
Speaker: So, yeah, that'll be on the list as well.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: So a real motherfucker of a year.
Speaker: It's going to be a nightmare, Kevin.
Speaker: Just a nightmare.
Speaker: You know what?
Speaker: It's going to be a real motherfucker of a year for us, too.
Speaker: But in a good way.
Speaker: In a good way.
Speaker: Motherfucker of a year, parentheses, positive.
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: It already is.
Speaker: It already is.
Speaker: It already is.
Speaker: You lovely, lovely people.
Speaker: You guys keep showing up.
Speaker: What is wrong with you?
Speaker: I don't know.
Speaker: You know what?
Speaker: Don't answer that question.
Speaker: Just keep showing up.
Speaker: Just keep showing up.
Speaker: And eventually, when we went down the road, if you guys keep showing up, maybe we'll do a live show at some point.
Speaker: If there's enough of you, we're going to do a live show.
Speaker: That's the goal.
Speaker: We get enough of you.
Speaker: We want to do a live show.
Speaker: I've already got plans for a PowerPoint presentation to go with it.
Speaker: Oh, that's wonderful.
Speaker: It's probably going to be like a Sonic the Hedgehog picture book or something.
