NFL Week 5 Highlights

00:00:14
Speaker
All right, welcome back to another episode of The Goal Post. Coming at you after week five in the NFL season. An exciting week of upsets and blowouts, Patrick. That was pretty much the MO of the entire weekend.
00:00:32
Speaker
Even last night, Monday night football, electric game. that I can't tell if I loved that weekend of football or if I hated it, but I watched You know why it's going to go down as just like a a solid weekend and you're going remember It's because the primetime games actually showed up.
00:00:50
Speaker
Even going back to Thursday night, you could even go to the to the London game, like a nice, exciting finish in the morning, solo spot. The Sunday night had a compelling ah finish to it. And then of course, you know,
00:01:02
Speaker
the The Trevor Lawrence legacy birthday game on Monday Night Football against Mahomes and the Chiefs. it was It was finally just a primetime slate where every single game delivered.
00:01:13
Speaker
That's why I think it's going to result in a memorable week. But if you look, you know if we we'll go down the list throughout this past week and you know recapping it all. You mentioned it before, but there's going to be a lot of quick hits this week, unfortunately. But thankfully for us, when you know it's all eyes were on one game, the NFL delivered for us. And that's really all you can ask for.
00:01:34
Speaker
Yeah, great Thursday night game, too. Even going back to the Thursday electric game between the Rams and the 49ers that no one saw coming. We don't usually touch on the Thursday games in this in these episodes, but that was one where you were glued to your TV because of how exciting it was.
00:01:51
Speaker
um But yeah, you're right. We got to start with the Trevor Lawrence legacy game. I am currently wearing my Trevor Lawrence jersey. Duval. Yeah. in a game that took you everywhere.
00:02:04
Speaker
Chiefs go up 14-0. I thought that that was going to be the turning point in this game was Trevor Lawrence reaching over the goal line, having a cartoonish fumble that went directly into, i guess it was a fumble recovery. looked like an interception, the way that that ball like flew in the air.
00:02:21
Speaker
Chiefs go all the way down the field and go up 14-0. I thought the Jags were going to be dead there, and credit to the Jags, who are now 4-1. four and one and snap an eight game losing streak to the Chiefs.
00:02:33
Speaker
They fought back and they won the game. It was stunning. the The Doug Peterson Jaguars roll over after a fumble on the goal line like that. I love the decision by Liam Cohen and the Jags to go for it on the fourth and goal.
00:02:47
Speaker
Hated the play call. um I just don't get it. You see that happen a lot. It happens a lot when you know and the linebackers are expecting it. the The quarterback just goes in. The whole game plan was to just reach the ball over the goal line.
00:02:59
Speaker
Nick Bolton popped it straight out of his hands. um Just perfect timing. if you wait Another half second, and that probably does get across the goal line. But no, pops it out. yeah Like you said, the Chiefs go down, make it fourteen nothing And then like the Trevor Lawrence turned it on after that. I didn't think he had a good start to this game. I thought his offensive line gave him a lot of time to make some th throws. And he was just maybe, maybe it's, you know, you got to give some credit to Spags and the Chiefs defense for covering, but you should never be able to cover receivers for that long. And Trevor had so much time and just wasn't wasn't able to pull the trigger and make a decision.
00:03:34
Speaker
And then, and you know, he started using his legs. Like he stopped taking sacks, started using his legs, finished as the leading rusher in this game for for the Jags over 50 yards. And it was just that something changed in Trevor Lawrence and his mindset. And unfortunately they had to go down 14 points.
00:03:50
Speaker
in this game for it to come out, but it was a nice Trevor Lawrence game for three quarters. And, uh, the other turning point in this game, like obviously it's, it's that pick six. It was, uh, you know, my homes and the chiefs driving down the field again.
00:04:03
Speaker
And then it was just, I guess it's so tight, right? When you're on the goal and you're in those situations where, you you know, guys can just pop out of nowhere and you don't see them. how they undercut the Juju Smith-Schuster pass there that was going to be a touchdown. Then Devin Lloyd takes it back 99 yards for a touchdown, and then it was kind of all Jags after.
00:04:23
Speaker
that That was like the game because I think if the Chiefs get that touchdown there, I think they end up winning it, and then it results in the Jaguars ah pick six and a victory for the Jags. Yeah, it was 14-14 with three minutes left in the third quarter.
00:04:36
Speaker
Put the Jags up 21-14. kind of gave them that ability to to be able to come back and win because they would have been, I think, just down too much. um Longest interception return in the regular season by a linebacker in NFL history.
00:04:52
Speaker
Devin Lloyd coming off of he was AFC defensive player of the month for September. He's having a heater of a season. Some vintage Jacksonville defense maybe like coming back the the days of Saxonville because if this team has a great defense, like their ceiling's pretty high. like If Trevor can play like that,
00:05:12
Speaker
the the one thing I took from their offense, they got to get tra Travis Hunter more involved. ah Three receptions for 64 yards, including the 44 yard catch. That's not like two games in a row. He's had massive plays. He had that huge 30 yard catch against San Francisco that kind of jumpstarted one of their touchdown drives.
00:05:33
Speaker
He, he looked great in that game. He's playing both sides of the ball. Like, For a podcast that has not been the biggest Travis Hunter fan, I last night was extremely impressed with him. And they've got pieces. Deami Brown was great.
00:05:48
Speaker
Obviously, Brian Thomas Jr. Like this team has a good roster. And if they can get solid defense and then play like they got out of Trevor Lawrence in the last, I don't know, two and a half quarters of that game, the ceiling's very high for this team.
00:06:02
Speaker
This is why we listed them on our fun team preseason. like Travis Hunter is fun. ah Brian Thomas Jr. has you know not had the most exciting start to the year, but it's slowly getting better every week.
00:06:13
Speaker
and i mean Just go look at the game-winning touchdown run from Trevor Lawrence. If that's not fun, yeah i don't you shouldn't be listening to this podcast because Trevor Lawrence stumbles. well the The right guard, I believe, steps on his foot.
00:06:26
Speaker
Lawrence drops down. Chris Jones quits on the play because he thinks it's a sack. And then, you know, so somehow no one touches him. It felt like he was on the ground for about five seconds.
00:06:37
Speaker
ah He eventually gets up and, you know, evades tackle or two and runs it in into just complete, like just... One of the more chaotic and just fun games, especially on the Jaguars side of the the ball.
00:06:50
Speaker
And, you know, it gets gets a huge win over the Kansas City Chiefs. And it it was like, you know, people were talking about the Chiefs not necessarily knowing where they were. This is the downfall of the Chiefs. I thought the Chiefs, if you take that pick six away, had a very good game.
00:07:03
Speaker
I thought they played solid football. They looked as good as I, you know, thought they were. Jacksonville just made the plays and found a way to to win this game when it was necessary. And, you know, I don't know if we knew what Jacksonville was coming into this game.
00:07:18
Speaker
Three and one loss to the Joe Burrow led Bengals at that point time. They wins over the Texans, the Panthers, a nice win over the 49ers. um But we just didn't know what they were. And I think this is, like you said, a huge coming out party for this young roster.
00:07:35
Speaker
ah You mentioned Travis Hunter. like He just looked, he had the big, you know you mentioned the contested catch downfield. I thought he was great underneath too. There was a lot of like bailout throws for Trevor Lawrence to just get it, get in his hands. Travis would make one or two guys miss in the open field, get it, turn like a one yard gain into a 10 yard gain and a first down.
00:07:52
Speaker
It was very encouraging to watch ah from, from Jacksonville. Obviously they probably would have liked Etienne to, you know, maybe get a little bit more involved in the run game, but at least Trevor Lawrence picked it up to rushing touchdowns.
00:08:04
Speaker
And this was just an exciting win at home for Jacksonville over the over the Chiefs, who it's like these these wins for these young teams over teams like the Chiefs, especially when the Chiefs played well. was not a I'm not knocking the Chiefs in this game. it's you know We're elevating the the Jaguars.
00:08:20
Speaker
It was just impressive. First quarter, you you could burn that tape, but for three quarters, the Jacksonville Jaguars played amazing football. Yeah. And the thing that ended up killing the Chiefs, obviously the pick six, but 13 penalties for 109 yards, you're not used to really seeing from a Chiefs team, especially that PI that ended up getting Jacksonville, giving them life and letting them win that game, putting them right down near the goal line.
00:08:44
Speaker
That was a massive penalty. And then when you just look at Like we talked about this ad nauseum last season about the chiefs, black magic winning one score games. What was it like 10 wins on one score games they had at one point last year? It it it was almost like the, every single one, i think they finished with 12 wins last year. So maybe two of them weren't by one score. Yeah, it was, it was crazy.
00:09:05
Speaker
And now they have three, one score losses this year. And that's, You know, you talk about like that the luck's going to run out eventually. The ball is going to bounce the other way. It's exactly what's happening so far this year with the Chiefs is they're just finding themselves on the wrong side of these one score games.
00:09:23
Speaker
And all of a sudden they now, you know, drop to two and three. Jags match their win total from last year. Like this was just a real, real mindfuck of a game where you look at the standings afterwards. I feel like this season has been like that in general, like the Colts and the Jags being four and one, the Chiefs and the Ravens having a combined three wins so far during the season. It's everything is upside down. It's what you love about the NFL. Like you can You can never predict what's going to happen, even if you have the utmost confidence in stats backing you up. You just never know.
00:10:00
Speaker
The margins are so small in this league. Like you said, that the Chiefs played well. You brought up the one-score game stats. They're just kind of on the wrong side of it to start the year. And you know people are going to panic and freak out, but I still think the Chiefs are in a fine spot.
00:10:14
Speaker
ah Fortunately for them, their division ah rivals and opponents are not running away, so they're still right in the mix for that division. And then in the AFC South, like you mentioned, like We chalked that division up to the Texans before the season started. We just handed it to them. We said, this is all yours.
00:10:29
Speaker
you don't You might not even have to play the games. We're just going to give you the division. They're third in the division now, and they're starting to you know turn a corner and start looking a lot better after their over first start. But the Jags and the Colts, man, they just look like these young, explosive teams that are playing with nothing to lose.
00:10:46
Speaker
And it's just really impressive what you know a little bit of a culture change ah for for like a guy like Daniel Jones can do. And then, you know, Liam Cohen coming into this team, a Travis Hunter, these young, exciting players, these these coaches with like a bright mind who, you know, I was not confident in Liam Cohen, especially with the Duval, the introductory press conference, all these things, you know,
00:11:09
Speaker
he He just had a coordinator vibe written all over him. So far, he's been able to perform and he's shown some fire throughout the season. He's not scared. You know, we had, he had that little, know, I don't even know what you call it with Trevor Lawrence, just saying like, put it on his chest. Trevor's waving them off.
00:11:23
Speaker
I like that. Like, I like what I've seen out of the Jaguars and Liam Cohen so far this year. And it's there, they're in the race for, for the division. And they look like a playoff team through five weeks in the NFL right now.
00:11:34
Speaker
Yeah, they

Patriots vs Bills: Defense and Strategy

00:11:35
Speaker
absolutely do. It's a perfect way to put it. And another team that is starting to look, unfortunately, like a playoff team, Patrick, was in the Sunday night football game because the Patriots beat the Bills in Orchard Park 23 to May
00:11:53
Speaker
drake may Absolutely great game. Like another efficient, very clutch game from Drake May. 22 of 30 for 273 yards.
00:12:04
Speaker
Nearly perfect in the second half. He's 13 of 14 for 184 yards. Stefan Diggs finishes with 146 receiving yards. Not the cleanest game, but we said last week we'll find out what the Patriots really are after that Carolina game.
00:12:20
Speaker
They have to go to Buffalo. What is this Patriots team actually doing? They're a good football team. That's what it is. The defense is very, very solid to lean on. The special teams is good.
00:12:32
Speaker
The offense looks great. The coaching is solid. like there's There's not a lot of holes to poke in them right now when Drake May is playing like that. Yeah, the Vrabel culture, ah coaching change, you're starting to see it take place in real time. And it got off to a little bit of a slow start. Obviously, they got off to a one and two start, lost to the Raiders in week one, a really sloppy loss to the Steelers where, you know, if they didn't make the amount of errors they did, they could have easily won that game and been four and one and leading the division right now. But, you know, here they are three and two with just a massive win on the road over Buffalo. Buffalo had a
00:13:07
Speaker
They were 8-0 at home last year. And i don't a winning streak at home that has gone over the course of three seasons. the The New England Patriots have snapped it.
00:13:18
Speaker
Feels like the Bills always play at home, by the way. and ah Yeah, it was a great game. Like said, Drake May, you know people are looking to crown him as the... He just had a good football game.
00:13:29
Speaker
I've seen some bad Drake May football games. I've seen some good ones. This was one of the good ones, but it wasn't exceptional. The thing that stood out to me about Drake May and was you know the best part of his game is he had that like clutch. like he When he needed it and the moment was big, Drake May would go out there and make a play, whether it was him going to run for a first down him with making a completion with guys draped all over him.
00:13:52
Speaker
Like he was making big plays and big moments. And that's the, you know, the sign that you take away from this. and Like you had no passing touchdowns. He was sacked four times. He was fine in that sense. But it was just like when, when things needed to happen,
00:14:06
Speaker
drake may was leaned on and he was making these plays that you know the first three weeks they weren't making last year he wasn't making it's it's starting to change and i do think a lot of it has to go back to vrabel uh the only thing i would you know nitpick ah about this patriots team and in this game specifically is they just they they need a running game their running game is just non-existent you know ramondre stevenson fumbles it again ends up with two touchdowns though so it's it's It's a weird thing. I think Antonio Gibson's going to be missing some time as well.
00:14:36
Speaker
Yeah. ah And like I said before, Travion Henderson has not taken the keys and taken the car and you know run with it. But I just don't get why he's not getting more opportunities, especially with Ramondre Stevenson continuing to make mistakes and form of the football.
00:14:52
Speaker
So I think you know they just kind of just stick with something because it was Henderson six carries. it was Gibson six carries. Stevenson seven. So you just, you just run a three, three running backs out there. I it's, it's a weird thing, but that's, you know, they still won the football game and they still have a lot of time to figure it out over the course of the season.
00:15:09
Speaker
But that is my only thing to, you know, nitpick with this Patriots team going forward. Yeah, it's a bit odd. i They'll be forced to make a decision now with Antonio Gibson going to be out for a long time. I think that'll come to a head where,
00:15:22
Speaker
yeah it's so funny. It's like, I saw somebody say it's like Stevenson only has eight more opportunities to lose this with another fumble. Like he, it's seeming like he has two fumbles a game. Um, yet they still won't really give the keys over, but ironically it was the bills turnovers that killed them in this game. Like they had three turnovers, two by Josh Allen, must the handoff to da Dawson, Dawson Knox to end Buffalo's opening drive.
00:15:48
Speaker
He gets picked off by Marcus Jones. Keon Coleman loses a fumble. This game, the start of this game, like the first half, it it felt like the football was covered in butter. Like nobody wanted to keep the football in their hands.
00:16:00
Speaker
um But it ended up being the turnovers that killed Buffalo. Penalties killed them. They had 11 penalties. They had a six game streak of winning the turnover battle. That didn't happen. Helped them lose.
00:16:13
Speaker
um And eight penalties in the first half. Like it was just a messy, messy game from Buffalo. They still almost won it, which kind of shows you how good of a team Buffalo is. But it's just impossible to win in the NFL when you shoot yourself in the foot that many times.
00:16:28
Speaker
um But most importantly, I think down the stretch in this game was I was so impressed with the Pats defense like you. that final drive that Buffalo had that they kicked the fuel, goal it had touchdown written all over it.
00:16:41
Speaker
Like they had the big reception of Coleman twice in a row. They looked like they were marching down the field. And all of a sudden Pat's defense just stands up tall, forces them to kick the fuel. Well, they held James cook to 49 yards on 15 carries. The first time he hasn't gotten a hundred yards this whole season, which is insane to say.
00:17:01
Speaker
um But it it was the Pat's defense. And then Drake may making clutch throws like, Stiff arming the guy off him, making that throw the sideline pass to digs in the, in the start of the fourth quarter was insane.
00:17:14
Speaker
We just clutch quarterbacking, good defense, not making the mistake on special teams. This was like a, a three phase win. The definitive three phase win that you see in the NFL.
00:17:26
Speaker
It was a Patriots victory. like That's the Patriots team you know we grew up with. like it's They just executed on all three levels. They made the plays when necessary, and they found a way to win a game on the road, especially in a divisional game. This was huge ah going forward for the Patriots. And yeah, Drake May is still developing.
00:17:42
Speaker
You'd like to see him you know what You put five weeks in a row together. Like don't regress. Don't show that sign of regression with the turnovers and things of that nature. Just keep it going. And, you know, like you said, like the defense, you can let a guy like Dalton Kincaid beat you.
00:17:57
Speaker
Like he had, he was their star. He had over a hundred receiving yards in this game, but that's a tight end. You know, he's good. It's going to happen. You shut down James Cook. Like you said, keon coleman got the touchdown but other than that he wasn't really a factor in this game shakir was you know held in check as well and it was just really impressive where like said when it was necessary and the moment was biggest the patriots were making plays on both sides of the ball and it's just like okay this is this is real the patriots are starting to build something yeah i didn't see them as like a threat after their one and two start i was thinking
00:18:30
Speaker
Okay, they'll be happy to go 8-9. Maybe if they find a way to go 9-8, that'd be huge. But they're starting to look better and better every week now. And if they can kind of put this together. from they Like you said, we've gone over this. The AFC East scheduling is is it's a gift. It's a blessing. they they have if If you go through their schedule, there is no one that's, aside from playing the Bills again, there's no one that's really that threatening because they play the Bengals without Joe Burrow.
00:18:57
Speaker
So though they go at the Bucs and at the Ravens later. So we, won you know, maybe Lamar will be back and their defense looks a little bit better, but for the most part. always like They got the bills again, the the next three games, they go saints, Titans, Browns.
00:19:14
Speaker
Then they go Falcons, Bucs, Jets. So in those next six games, like the Bucs are their toughest opponent. That Falcons game will be interesting, but then you're right. They go Bengals, Giants, Bills, Ravens, Jets, Dolphins. Like it is,
00:19:26
Speaker
They have a path to eight or nine wins out of those games. It's everything's in front of them. yeah If they can just go out there and execute, they they will be a playoff team. They just can't show those signs of, well, Drake may kind of specifically can't show those signs of like, you know losing to the Raiders or the team having five turnovers in that game against the Steelers. Like they just can't revert back to that and then just continue to play clean football and they will win a lot of these games in the season and will be a playoff team.
00:19:53
Speaker
Yeah, no, it's very true. um We'll move to what was arguably the best game of the Sunday slate.

High-Powered Offense: Mayfield vs Darnold

00:20:01
Speaker
Some ethical, ethical football, Patrick.
00:20:05
Speaker
Buccaneers 38, Seahawks This was watch. It was... this was topt tier football to watch it was The first time in NFL history where both QBs have thrown for over 325 yards and completed 80% of their passes.
00:20:22
Speaker
Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, the former first overall and third overall picks back in 2018, just absolutely battling two rookie and not rookie, two young Ohio State wide receivers, Emeka Buka, Jackson Smith and Jigba going at it.
00:20:39
Speaker
Rashad White. and Kenneth Walker going at it like tip for tat. This was AJ Barner and Kate Otten going like it it felt like this was a mirroring game where each team was just throwing everything at the wall.
00:20:53
Speaker
It was so exciting. And again, ends in a walk off field goal for the Bucs. Another comeback win. They're now four and one I felt like I learned a lot positively about both of these teams. Like the Seahawks, we talked about, what are they?
00:21:11
Speaker
they're They're a good team. this This game, the game against the Cardinals, those two things have just kind of solidified it for me, where even though you know they lost this game, they're 3-2 now, I kind of know what the Seahawks are, and I know that they're legit.
00:21:26
Speaker
And the Bucs, man, they're doing this while they're not fully healthy. This team, if they can get healthy down the stretch, is a serious, serious Super Bowl contender.
00:21:39
Speaker
to To put up, you know, it was 38 points against what I think most people looked at as a very good Seattle Seahawks defense so on the road, traveling across the country to go to the Northwest.
00:21:53
Speaker
And they didn't really, they didn't really trail at any point in this game. It was just Tampa came out of the gates hot. think it was at 14 or 13, 13, 13, nothing start. And you thirteen thirteen nothing start and you know Seattle is kind of getting a little desperate. they're bringing out Jalen Milrow to do these trick plays. He's fumbling the ball on the pitch. It's, it's, you're looking at sounds back. You're, you're kind of panicking because, you know, Tampa Bay is coming out hot. They have the game plan.
00:22:19
Speaker
And Seattle ends up bouncing back. They end up tying this game and in the third quarter. But it was just the way that these teams just found away. Every time you thought that this game might be over for Tampa specifically, they were the they held two two score leads at different points in this game, maybe three.
00:22:36
Speaker
And Seattle just kept finding a way to respond. And now you're looking at the Seahawks. Like you said, I'm i'm i'm a believer in the Seahawks. I think they're very good team, but it's almost like they're like built from the offense first with Sam Darnold, Smith and Jigba.
00:22:50
Speaker
They got two solid running backs, you know, complimentary piece in Cooper Cup. AJ Barner's kind of coming onto the scene with a pair of touchdown catches in this one. like it's it's Seattle's turned into this offensive team. But yeah, i do come away from this game being like Tampa Bay is is a threat. Maybe the threat out of the NFC to you know make the Super Bowl.
00:23:10
Speaker
We'll have a chance to you know win the Super Bowl when they get all healthy. Mike Evans still out. The O-line just is is Swiss cheese, but it's you know somehow patched together. And, uh, yeah, just going out to Seattle and putting up 38 points and not trailing at any point in this game, especially as what three and a half point underdogs, very impressive effort. And, and, you know, last thing is just the, the perfect Jersey matchup. Both of them go on retros. More teams got to do that. Sometimes it's always like the one team, the home team usually rips the throwback.
00:23:41
Speaker
It's so much better when both teams do it. Yeah, shout out CBS to even had the the old logos on the score bug. Very nice touch. um And I just think it's ridiculous that this is now what, like the third coming out party for a Mecca Buka.
00:23:57
Speaker
Like it seems like every week it's. Wow, another amazing performance from Emeka Buka. He was ridiculous in this game. Seven receptions, 163 yards and a touchdown.
00:24:09
Speaker
it was It was every drive he was making a big catch. he He gets the touch the octopus, the touchdown, and then the two-point conversion. like He was absolutely incredible in this game. So was Jackson Smith and Jigbo. They were just going back and forth.
00:24:25
Speaker
JSN had eight receptions, 132 yards and a touchdown. QBs were just throwing bombs. Like it was every single drive. There was like a 40 yard pass through the air.
00:24:36
Speaker
it this game was just so fun to watch that it it was nuts. It Seattle going for it on fourth and two for that Torrey Horton drop touchdown to tie it up. And they started on like their one yard line. it was a 99 yard drive was insane.
00:24:52
Speaker
The fact that this game, ended really on a Sam Darnold interception was almost like it put a sour taste in your mouth because his stat line is ridiculous. He went 28 of 34, 341, four touchdowns, but it was that one interception late that tipped off a defensive lineman's helmet that ended up being the difference.
00:25:13
Speaker
Kind of fitting though, kind of fitting just a Sam Darnold interception just for old time's sake, but he's been amazing this year, at like a career renaissance, which is beautiful to see. You mentioned it earlier, like both these guys ah Like the Browns and the Jets just got to be kicking themselves a little bit. Just be like, hey, we were right.
00:25:29
Speaker
Well, the Baker one was like, i that is the decision where you'll never really understand it. The Jets, Sam Darnold, was not working. i think both teams kind of needed to separate there. But yeah, the we've we've been highlighting the Eagles for having a gauntlet of a schedule to start the year. And you know finally, I think they're going to get some relief here.
00:25:46
Speaker
The Bucs have kind of been under the radar playing tough games every single week. Uh, the one, the one where it's like, okay, a bit of a layup was the jets, which ended up being their tightest, one of their tighter games of the season. but yeah They go on, they started the the season on the road at the Falcons, on the road of the Texans, Jets, lost to the Eagles last week, bounced back on the road again to the Seahawks. And then they go 49ers and Lions the next two weeks. So they're battle tested early.
00:26:12
Speaker
And in the fact that they're doing this, you know, at what, 70% health wise, 75 maybe is very impressive. And this is a team where like the NFC South, you I guess, ta I guess Atlanta's you, the buys are in play now. So you kind of forget about teams. Atlanta was one of them this week.
00:26:29
Speaker
Uh, but it's, it's the Buccaneers are just kind of, it's very impressive. And like the second half of the season, you know, that they're going to be having some easier games. And the fact that they're stacking some wins now is going to bode well for them down the stretch.
00:26:42
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah, definitely true. It, it, it eases up. Yeah. Towards the end of their season. Um, you know, a couple games against the Panthers, like it'll, it'll get easier, but yeah, they, they, They have a gauntlet, and and those 49ers-Lions, like the 49ers you would have hoped would have been one of those teams that you can kind of chill out against.
00:27:01
Speaker
Thursday night proved that that is not the case, and of course the Lions is not the case either. um We'll move to another interesting, interesting game, controversial game at the end of it.

Broncos Triumph Over Eagles

00:27:13
Speaker
Broncos 21, Eagles seventeen The Eagles finally lose a game. They go to four and one Broncos move to three into the story of this game to me was Bo Nix leading three scoring drives on three possessions in the fourth quarter, capped off by two point conversion on the last touchdown.
00:27:34
Speaker
And that this was a gutsy performance from the Broncos. They could have laid down and died in this game. and they just didn't. And to me, this this taught me a lot about the Broncos, where they've they've got some cojones.
00:27:50
Speaker
they They came back in this game and beat an undefeated Eagles team. Yeah, I was just impressed. On the road, too. ah Going out to Philly. Philly's been battle-tested. Like I said, the Broncos are...
00:28:05
Speaker
It's similar to the Jags. like you know you got Well, not similar to the Jags, but you just didn't exactly know what they were. Denver, in this sense, kind of got off to a slow-ish start to start the year. And they're starting to work themselves definitely back into the mix.
00:28:18
Speaker
Bo Nix is, while we were looking at the sophomore slump through the first two weeks or so, he's starting to get better every single week. And like you said, it was it was him in the fourth quarter and like just the second half in general.
00:28:31
Speaker
Uh, it was impressive. It was just, he was going out there and anytime you need a big play, think this is huge for young quarterbacks. You got to have a guy and this, his guys, Cortland Sutton, he finished the game with nine receptions for eight or sorry, eight receptions for 99 yards.
00:28:45
Speaker
Uh, they somehow keep him out of the end zone. feels like he always scores a touchdown, but he was clutch for them. Big receptions on, you know, third down, fourth down. It was just the Cortland Sutton game. I loved, I love Sean Payton, the aggressiveness out of him going for two when you could have just tied the game. It was just send a message. youre on the road here. There was still enough time in the game and you know, they were controlling the pace of play.
00:29:08
Speaker
And I think he felt that, especially on ah offense, they were driving the ball. Every time they had it in the second half, they were moving it downfield. Or even if you don't get that two point conversion, they still got like, they ended up getting another field goal after it.
00:29:21
Speaker
So he was, he was, he was right in his decision. Obviously, you know, he he was even more proven right by getting it. And it was just impressive. And this Broncos team,
00:29:32
Speaker
it's it's like they I think they just kind of they're shaking off the cobwebs. It was almost like they started off the season a little hungover, and now they're back, and this is a huge win. and Like we said, were we weren't knocking Philly because they had a hell of a schedule to start the year, and it don't ask how, just find a way to win the game, and they were doing that.
00:29:51
Speaker
I just can't help but think that they were they were starting to listen to people like us, that were starting to talk about the Eagles being like, Why, you know, why aren't AJ Brown and Devante Smith getting the ball? You know, it's all, you're just running it. Jalen hurts. What's going on there. Your second half performance last week was atrocious where they just came out and they said, we are throwing the ball no matter what.
00:30:13
Speaker
Saquon Barkley finished the game with six touches. Obviously he had that nice touchdown reception. So, you know, he probably goes away happy or at least content with his game, but it feels like the Eagles are They get their game plan wrong every week somehow. you know they They go into games running it when they should be passing it.
00:30:31
Speaker
They go into games passing it when they should be running it, and they don't adjust. that's The in-game adjustments just aren't there for the Eagles right now. It finally caught up to them. I'm still not worried about them. like They're a good team, a gauntlet of a schedule. You're four and one but it's i just think I can't but think that... like Something's going on in there.
00:30:49
Speaker
I don't know if it's AJ Brown, Devante Smith, Jalen Hurts, or who, but something's going on with the Eagles, and and if it somehow somebody caught up to them in this game, and they blew a 14-point lead to the Broncos.
00:31:00
Speaker
Yeah, and part of that was the Broncos defense. Broncos defense is incredible. Nick Benito, incredible. Obviously, Patrick Sertan. um But yeah, let's get into the controversy here because...
00:31:13
Speaker
The first one that was was controversial was the um intentional grounding flag, late flag, one of the latest flags I've ever seen in my entire life that then gets picked up from replay center assist.
00:31:28
Speaker
Even the broadcast seemingly didn't know what the hell to do with it. Like it's one of those plays where it's razor thin, where there was a receiver kind of in the area. You could have seen it both ways.
00:31:40
Speaker
The late flag didn't help. But then. I got a bit of a problem here with with the Eagles fans really making this game about the refs because you get a very, very dicey first pass interference call on that final drive from the Eagles that was like, all right, I guess.
00:31:59
Speaker
And I feel like that this is like where it gets into like game management that you see in the NHL where it's like, well, I i gave you that one. I can't give you the next one. Because the second one probably should have been pass interference on Dallas Goddard.
00:32:12
Speaker
But they had just given them one that was very borderline that really shouldn't have. And I hate I hate when and NFL teams try to pass interference their way and into a drive all the way down to the goal line.
00:32:25
Speaker
Like it it just rubs me the wrong way. Feels like you're playing football the wrong way when you're doing that. And I just, I don't know. I don't think there's anything to complain about from Eagles fans in this game in terms of that final drive. Like it was, you got yourself in that position where you needed to be relying on that. You can't cry foul when when not every single call falls your way.
00:32:51
Speaker
There are times in games where it feels like the refs are, you know, the reason why points are put on the board. It did not feel like that in this game. And if you look at the final penalties, I know, you know, the timing of the missed, the, you know, in quotations, missed calls, uh, wasn't ideal for Philadelphia.
00:33:10
Speaker
But the refs were calling stuff on Denver the entire game. 12 penalties for 121 yards. And the Eagles finished with nine penalties for 55 yards. So clearly the reffing advantage and the calls were in your favor throughout the entire game.
00:33:24
Speaker
The refs weren't the ones that gave up a 14 point lead at home. that That was a Hall of Fame like I think because of how late they threw that flag, you couldn't call that ah intentional grounding.
00:33:36
Speaker
It was just like, that it they were almost, they were about to, so like, not snap the ball, but they were about to set the ball for the third down, I think it was. And then there's, oh, flag, here comes the flag. And then, yeah, the phantom replay assist where the refs don't even acknowledge it to the crowd. I think that's kind of what the booth,
00:33:51
Speaker
was getting on about. Honestly, the penalty that I think I would have the most beef with if I was a Philly fan was, the I believe it was Zach Bond, ah that that late hit on a running back in play where it's he wasn't going down. I think it was RJ Harvey, not JK Dobbins. I could be wrong, but he just wasn't going down. He's trying to extend the play.
00:34:12
Speaker
And then it's ah it's a split second, maybe a full second, but at the end of the day it's a running back. It's not a quarterback as Football, you know, the rules are changing. It's it's a softer game than it was. And and I understand that. And player safety is at the forefront.
00:34:28
Speaker
You have to always be able to kill running backs. Yeah, it's got to be part of the league, man. The running backs can just, are there it it just has to happen. It's part of the game. Running backs, you can be able to do whatever you want to them.
00:34:40
Speaker
And in this one, i didn't even think it was I guess it's because like it hit his head. But at the end of the day, I just don't see that being a 15 yard penalty in a crucial game like this. That's the penalty. If I'm an Eagles fan where I would have the most beef with.
00:34:53
Speaker
Yeah. It's always tough when they're looking down at the turf and then they, they have somebody come out on top of them. Yeah, that one's a tough one because you like to say, like, you know, you should know better as a defensive player. But these guys are on 10. The entire game is a bang, bang play. Like, it it's tough to say you should have known better because, you know, if he extends that three, four yards, then it's like, well, why the hell didn't you make that play? And in you're kind of killed either way.
00:35:23
Speaker
Um, but yeah, like you said, I don't think this was one of those games where the refs put points on the board. um and I think Denver and Denver fans should be extremely pleased with this win.
00:35:35
Speaker
And similar to the chiefs, it's not like the sky is falling for this Eagles team. I think with the new ah offensive coordinator, they're eventually going to find that rhythm where they, they do get one of these game plans. Right.
00:35:46
Speaker
And the Eagles are completely fine. Um, a team that is not completely

Titans' Dramatic Comeback Win

00:35:51
Speaker
fine. Patrick, the Arizona Cardinals. This game was maybe the silliest game I've seen in the past three, four years.
00:36:03
Speaker
Titans 22, Cardinals 21. Cardinals are up 21 to three at one point, 21 to six in the fourth quarter alone. They have a red zone turnover.
00:36:14
Speaker
off of Kyler Murray's face. Then 72-yard touchdown by Amari DiMercato called back for the classic dropping the ball before going into the end zone play.
00:36:29
Speaker
Instead of going up 28-6, it was then a touchback. Tennessee goes and drives 80 yards after that for its first touchdown in eight quarters. cal Calvin Ridley had a huge catch on that.
00:36:42
Speaker
Then Cam Ward throws an interception that is then fumbled back into a Titans touchdown for Tyler Lockett. Arizona then punts with two minutes left.
00:36:55
Speaker
Titans drive down the field, walk off field goal. Arizona has now lost three straight. All of the losses came via a field goal on the final play.
00:37:05
Speaker
That is the first time that has happened in NFL history, which sounds insane. I'm shocked that that hasn't happened before. But if there's any team that it's going to happen to, it's this Cardinals team.
00:37:16
Speaker
we yeah We jumped off the Bucs at a wrong time, I would say. i would like to still be a Bucs podcast, but we're not. the Us jumping off the Cardinals has never seemed more smart. This this game was so fitting for these two teams. you know the The Titans, you just it they snap a 10-game losing streak going back to last season.
00:37:39
Speaker
And the Cardinals, they ah they just always find a way to go 8-9, ten eight or nine and it's they do it in the worst possible fashion. They'll win when yeah when they have no business winning, and they lose games when they have no business losing them.
00:37:52
Speaker
And it's games like this where you know the the hard O NFL crowd where it's like, I don't watch college football because of the quality of play or or the CFL. I don't watch the CFL for the quality of play. I only watch NFL because it is the best.
00:38:05
Speaker
This game was horrible. The play in this game was disgusting. Like Marvin Harrison Jr. had a really nice touch. Well, not call back touchdown pass in the first quarter. That was a nice play.
00:38:16
Speaker
And Amari DiMercado almost had a really nice play. He, you know, decides to, you know, back-to-back boneheads ah with Adonai Mitchell and now DiMercado.
00:38:28
Speaker
controversial opinion. I think the ball was across the goal line before he, uh, that was the closest one I think I've ever seen. i I kind of think that was a touchdown, but he doesn't deserve it because of, of what he was doing.
00:38:40
Speaker
And I can't help feel a little bit responsible for the results of this game. Honestly, I, you know, I took the Cardinals minus eight and a half, and this was always going to happen. If I, if I took the Titans, the the Cardinals probably would have, you know, DeMarcado goes across the goal line. He's They intercept that ball in the fourth quarter and they go on and they, they cover this game handily, but I decided to go out there and be yeah, the Cardinals, the the Titans have no business. They can't cover games. They've lost 10 straight, straight up.
00:39:06
Speaker
Yeah. So, so I'm just going to apologize to Cardinals fans. Uh, you know, hand up, that's on me and it it won't happen again. I'll stay away from your team. In fact, I'll i'll go against your team maybe for the rest of the season.
00:39:17
Speaker
But that was just, I couldn't believe the chaos that was unfolding in front of my eyes. ah thought I thought it was a winner. I thought it was a winner. That was the first thing I thought of was like, Jesus, Patrick's on the wrong end of this again. Yeah. So hand up, this was on me. This is my fault. I should have never gone there.
00:39:32
Speaker
And yep, I find a way to go one and two again. Yeah, yeah, we'll get to our picks later, but we stink. um last Last full game preview here.
00:39:43
Speaker
just It's not quite deserving of a full game preview, but I said going into it that I was really interested in knowing what both of these teams are. feel like in general, this is kind of one of my favorite points in the season where you're so close to really, really getting the read on all the teams in the NFL. It's not quite because like the Eagles went two and two last year. And I remember our week five recap after that being like, are the Eagles good? All this stuff.
00:40:11
Speaker
um But the commanders 27 chargers 10. um This was a game where I felt like we learned a lot about both teams as well. um One of which being that the commanders, I think if Jane Daniels is is at the helm, are going to be just fine because they're running game rules now.
00:40:31
Speaker
Bill Krosky, Merritt, all-time game, 14 carries, 111 yards, two rushing touchdowns, 150 yards from scrimmage for him. Debo Samuel, again, looks unreal.
00:40:43
Speaker
Jane Daniels looked a lot more like his old self. um So that's the Washington side of things. Chargers side of things. We said last week, they're on watch. What's your update on the Chargers, Patrick?
00:40:55
Speaker
What the hell happened out there? ten nothing in the first quarter, and I thought they were going to win this game handily. that's The first quarter, it was it was just Jaden Daniels clearly wasn't fully trusting that knee yet. it It was kind of slowly figuring it out, and the Chargers took advantage. It was 10-0.
00:41:13
Speaker
And they proceed to not score any points for the remainder of the game. And, you know, the the commanders do the opposite where they're putting up points in every single quarter and they go on and win this game by 17. And yeah, I mean, I know the Chargers are banged up. That's not a secret. They lose Amari and Hampton for four weeks after this game as well.
00:41:31
Speaker
And they're on, you know, Vidal and Hassan Haskins for the running backs, which is not an encouraging sign of where this team is going. But this is also just kind of what the Chargers are to me. I think they're going have a chance to be the seventh team in the AFC, maybe the sixth if they if everything goes perfectly.
00:41:47
Speaker
But I don't see them as a serious... contender to win a Superbowl. I don't think they're going to win their division. I don't think they're horrible. I don't think they're bad. I think the commanders are a good team overall, but like,
00:42:00
Speaker
Going from you know a pretty perfect start to the game where you're getting a touchdown and a field goal in your first two drives to not scoring any points for the remainder of the game, three quarters, that is like that is just not a real football team move. and i just it's the The level of concern should be high in LA.
00:42:21
Speaker
Some of it may have to do with the with the injuries, but I also think this is kind of a ah reflection on what the team truly is. Yeah, and it was really like you feel Quinta Johnson's fumble.
00:42:32
Speaker
Like if you're trying to find a turning point in this game. He he fumbles it in the second quarter. Marshawn Lattimore scoops it up and then that turnover led directly to Krosky Merritt's 15 yard touchdown run.
00:42:46
Speaker
That was kind of the turning point because it felt like that sparked Washington's offense. They go get 27 unanswered points Like from the fumble onward, Washington did not allow another Chargers point in this game.
00:43:01
Speaker
The defense stood tall. Yeah, this is this is a classic. like You start out so hard. the Seahawks started out 3-0 last year, and everybody was so ready to like pencil them in as a playoff team, pencil them in as maybe a division winner ah in the in the NFC West.
00:43:20
Speaker
This is very similar, man. like it it The Chargers start out to this crazy hot start. Now they're dropping games. like It is It is definitely panic time in the Chargers, especially with Hampton going out. You'd love to have J.K. Dobbins still on this team, wouldn't you, Chargers?
00:43:36
Speaker
um Because they go... yeah They actually have a decent schedule. like They go Dolphins, Colts, Vikings, um and then Titans, Steelers, Jags. So... It's not horrible, but it's another one of those stretches where you could easily split those games and then be right back where you are. And you and you stop being able to elevate yourself as being one of those top

Commanders' Dominance Over Chargers

00:43:58
Speaker
teams.
00:43:58
Speaker
And you start being one of those middle feeder teams, which, like you said, translates eventually into a seventh seed in the AFC. They're riding high. The biggest thing they have going for them is their 3-0 start. The three wins came against three division opponents. So that's that's going to bode well down the stretch, especially if they can find a way to win like one more, just beat the Raiders, and you're 4-2 in the division at worst.
00:44:22
Speaker
So they do have that going for them, and they will have a chance ah to maybe cause something, like some just to win some games. like This is not it's not a bad football team. I'm not i'm not going there, but people, like you said, were kind of looking at this team to win the AFC West and possibly they were throwing Super Bowl out there after three weeks to the Los Angeles Chargers. like like Settle down, you know Justin Herbert, MVP discussions.
00:44:47
Speaker
I don't think a quarterback can win an MVP under John Harbaugh. and i just don't like ah Herbert's great. He's talented, but with no O-line and you know now you're going on to your third string running backs.
00:45:00
Speaker
There's a lot more pressure put on him. And I just don't, I just don't know if he's sometimes up to the task. Sometimes he has these games where it's like, yeah, you you're a hall of famer, but it's just not something to like what I was talking about with Drake may. It's like, can you just do this for longer stretches than what's going on? Cause you just sometimes revert back to that, that rookie or like the sophomore. It's like, you're not that anymore. Like Herbert, we need you to play 17 games.
00:45:23
Speaker
And it feels like he's playing 10, 11 games. And like those mental lapses are just, they cost them games. Like you lose back to back against the Giants commanders. I just can't take you seriously as a Super Bowl threat. And I, I'm, I don't think they're going to win the AFC West. I think it comes down to the Broncos or the Chiefs.
00:45:40
Speaker
Yeah. You got ulterior motives with that, with your, with your Broncos AFC West pick looming large here. We'll move to quick picks here and start with the official, official death of the Dolphins season.

Panthers' Stunning Comeback

00:45:52
Speaker
I was going to let myself get a little bit excited if they could handle a team like the Panthers, who lost by 6,000 points to the Patriots the week before.
00:46:02
Speaker
And of course they couldn't ah Panthers 27 Dolphins 24. This was after the Dolphins went up 17 to nothing in this game. And the offense proceeded to just shut things down um for the last three quarters of this game.
00:46:17
Speaker
um This was awful, Patrick. Rico Dowdle. What a game. This was 23 carries, 206 yards and a touchdown led all running backs in week five yardage.
00:46:32
Speaker
He literally was getting, it felt like 20 yards of carry in this game and they just couldn't stop him at all. Shout out Eric Collins. Actually the, the Charlotte Hornets announcer was filling in for this game. Him and Mark Schlereth was a unbelievable broadcast. Like it was, it was the only thing that brought a little bit of brightness for this broadcast. If you were a dolphins fan, um,
00:46:59
Speaker
But this game's hard for me because I love to to purely trash the Dolphins. But the Panthers played really good in this game. Bryce Young, after it seems like he has to get a turnover or two out of his system early in this game when it happened in the s sack fumble, happened interception.
00:47:15
Speaker
And then he had some th throws that were like primetime Aaron Rodgers throws. He hit Leggett in the back of the end zone on a absolute rope. And he played great. the ah The Panthers offense played great. The Panthers defense stood tall. They looked back to that, you know, win against the Falcons. They looked like that Panthers defense that has really turned a corner.
00:47:37
Speaker
So, yeah, Dolphin season's over and and the Panthers looked good. yeah Yeah, the first quarter, I thought this was Dolphins by 20. It felt that way, right? Like Bryce Young, it was like, oh God, Andy Dalton's going to come into this game. it it was it was one of those vibes early. in that And then, yeah, pretty much after he threw the interception, Bryce Young played one of his best games that he's seen. And yeah, Rico Dowdle looks a lot bigger than he did last year.
00:48:03
Speaker
I was watching this game on mute and he's... He's wearing number five. And I was like, is that, that that's, that's Rico doubt. All right. But I wasn't sure it was just, he looks bigger. It looks a little different. A hell of a game over 200 yards is just impressive. Maybe the best running performance we've seen this year from a running back and he's wise for sure. Yeah. So, you know, great win for the Panthers. And yeah, like said, the dolphins, this is,
00:48:28
Speaker
Yeah, it's sad because Tua had a decent game too, and it was just like, yeah. this it's it's It's really unfortunate. I don't have a lot to say for the Dolphins. you you you You said it well. ah You represent the Finns.
00:48:40
Speaker
Darren Waller is fun. that is young you get Darren Waller is fun. Maybe he could be a ah trade candidate down the stretch. You get something for him in return. But yeah, not not not great for the Dolphins. You'd like to run the ball for, you know, like A-Chain's good and he's great.
00:48:57
Speaker
Sometimes it feels like he's a receiver. Yeah. Yeah. yeah we end the slide And they have to run them off tackle. Like when they, when they, when they run them up the gut, it just never works. And yeah, the, the rushing totals in this game was purely ridiculous. they It really came down to a missed a pass, a waddle over the middle on, on their last drive in this game. That was just backbreaking.
00:49:20
Speaker
And yeah, to have played all right. Yeah. That nice pass. I mean, that Waddle touchdown, even that pass was like eight yards under thrown. Like he had to come back and get it. um But yeah, total death of the Dolphins season.
00:49:33
Speaker
really weird McDaniel press conference where he was like rambling on and like barely finishing sentences that feels like the writings on the on really on the wall now especially with the Titans getting a win and Brian Callahan's probably safe for another few weeks um the odds are back up for for McDaniel to be gone first but yeah very very tough also Darren Waller amazing first half, but he's still on like a snap count. And then they didn't get him involved for like the next two and a half quarters. He had the same receptions that he had through one. Yeah, it was, it was bad.
00:50:08
Speaker
um We'll go to the the Sunday morning, which like we mentioned earlier, actually turned out to be a very exciting game.

Vikings' Victory in London

00:50:14
Speaker
Vikings 21 Brown 17, Vikings come back and win this game on a beautiful Carson Wentz back shoulder throw um and it looked like vintage Wentz.
00:50:25
Speaker
I thought the Browns were going to win this game, man. I really did. And I was getting excited about that. Dylan Gabriel's exciting. He had some bad throws like it wasn't like a perfect game by any means. But your first NFL start in London, you can't really complain about much.
00:50:42
Speaker
The Browns are like kind of fun, dude. They had a great game plan for Dylan Gabriel. Like I thought, especially in the first half, they really protected him. Well, they, they had, I think, I think this is the entire first half, like one touch to a wide receiver and it was on like a pitch player or something, a running play. It was not an actual catch, ah but it's smart, right? Get the, get the tight ends involved, little safety valve.
00:51:04
Speaker
When you have Quinshawn Judkins, who is currently looking like the best rookie running back, sorry ah like he he takes a lot of a lot of the load off of Dylan Gabriel and a lot of the pressure and helps the game plan.
00:51:16
Speaker
Yeah, it was a great game from Cleveland. It's just it's crazy they didn't cover. You what i mean? like If you had the Browns plus three and a half, it felt like you were on the right side the entire game. And somehow, you know, Carson Wentz leads a drive when, when the Vikings needed it the most doesn't, doesn't get the field goal. gets the touchdown, gets the win.
00:51:34
Speaker
Um, and just huge win for the Vikings. Just the, you know, without JJ McCarthy, who we still, the jury's still out on, they have to find a way to like stay above water without him and find a way to win some games.
00:51:46
Speaker
Uh, so the fact that they can, you know, look back and say, Hey, we're three and two. we're probably not going to win the division, but just keep pace in the wildcard race. And then Cleveland, you're not They're not a threat, but what a nice rookie draft class they have going. Oh, I was going to mention that, man. It's like promising stuff out of Cleveland. Stefanski, I was, like I said, really impressed with his game plan. I've kind of been not high on Stefanski. I kind of think he's just... no I'm not a Stefanski guy. Had a good game plan.
00:52:17
Speaker
And then, yeah, it was just it was the Browns have a nice future ah going for them. And it'd be nice if Dylan Gabriel could get some wins in the second half of the season. and Yeah, like Mason Graham looks great. Uh, Juggins looks fantastic.
00:52:30
Speaker
Harold Fannin looks really good. Dylan Gabriel now in this game. Yeah. It looks like they really crushed that draft class. Obviously very early to definitively say that, but for a team like the Browns that doesn't have a history of drafting well, that's gotta be inspiring to see as a fan.
00:52:47
Speaker
Um, we'll move to saints 26 giants, 14, man. This game was a bit outrageous. If you're a giants fan, man, like, You get a huge win over the Chargers. Jackson Dart just absolutely sparks you into into what feels like a positive direction for this team.
00:53:08
Speaker
And then you just go backwards. This is now the second week in row. was being like, this is what I was talking about with this Saints team. like they They got a little bit of jam here. Spencer Rattler became the first quarterback drafted by the Saints to win a game since 1998, which is just a hilarious stat.
00:53:26
Speaker
um But yeah, there was... I want to say it was like in the third quarter where it started, where it was that stretch of giants where they just had turnover, turnover, interception, fumble, turnover. And they just, this game got so out of hand and credit to the saints for like taking advantage of it and and winning. But it it seems like the, the same old giants problems kind of reared their ugly head in this game.
00:53:51
Speaker
Yeah. And I, I like Jackson dart looked good early too. And this game, I was like, Oh my God, like, you know, the giants kind of have something here. they end up with five, five turnovers. I believe the giants had in this game and you know, the saints it's like Spencer Rattler.
00:54:04
Speaker
ah he's finding Rashid Shahid. I said it before. It's too early for Rashid Shahid, man. So like settle down your second half of the season guy. um and then, yeah, it was just Spencer Rattler didn't really make a lot of,
00:54:17
Speaker
dumb decisions, which we've kind of become used to him making. And it was nice game for him. The Saints at home in a game like this, it feels like a bit of a cheat code. I think that was like the huge difference. Like you said, they're they're a frisky team.
00:54:30
Speaker
like I don't think you... I don't think the Saints roll over. yeah know what I mean Like they were in the game with three quarters against the Bills. They win this game at home. I think the Saints can can hang.
00:54:42
Speaker
and And it's something that, you know, this game, like it kind of, you could have told me it didn't happen, but because there's so many turnovers in Jackson Darts, a rookie. I, and it it came across the radar and it was just the right team won this game.
00:54:55
Speaker
Uh, and we'll see if, you know, Jackson darts got this little, little connection with Theo Johnson in the end zone. He had two in this game. So yeah, I mean, it is what it is, but neither of these teams, like you're, you, you both want to draft top five in this, in the next draft coming up. Yeah. and you you don't want to mess that up by winning too many games.
00:55:15
Speaker
You want to talk about a game that you could have told me didn't happen. Patrick Cowboys jets, dude, it, This game was 30 to three at one point. And then I looked back and it was 37, 22. I was like, what the hell happened there? Like this, this game was buried in a, what was a terrible one o'clock slate. And I've got, I've got nothing from this game.
00:55:40
Speaker
I got some stuff. I think we can start the DAC MVP campaign. yeah Yeah. 2-2-1. we'll get to We'll get to this team in a bit, but probably the second worst defense in the NFL up to this point.
00:55:53
Speaker
And a lot of makeup on this score. 37-22. I didn't even realize the Jets got to 22. That's insane to me. um And then, you know, on the flip side, we talk about McDaniel leading the race for first fired head coach.
00:56:07
Speaker
Aaron Glenn, you're on the radar, buddy. You are on the radar. First Jets coach ever to start out 0-5. And it's like Justin Fields is not great. I'm not saying he's exceptional, but it's like he he's going in there and he's doing okay.
00:56:19
Speaker
And it's you're looked at as a defensive head coach, Aaron Glenn, and it's the defense where there's some money and there's some players on the defensive side. That wasn't supposed to be the issue with this team. It's like, is Justin Fields going to be able to be a starting quarterback?
00:56:32
Speaker
It's the defense. The defense stinks. And Aaron Glenn, yeah, like it's, you know, the the sideline celebrations, the sideline shots, it's a lot. It's a lot. And it's it's it's growing old fast over there and in New York. And, you know, it it usually feels like these guys have a free season as your first first head coach. But if he if this gets to like 0-10,
00:56:55
Speaker
God, and what do you do you its what do you do? I don't know, but it's I'm not saying he will be, but we're watching you, Aaron Glenn. The eyes are starting to, the the mag magnifying glass is getting a little bit bigger.
00:57:07
Speaker
It truly is that because it if the defense ends up being solid and it's the offense that has problems, you can kind of convince yourself like, okay, we brought Aaron Glenn in for defense to make this you know the real identity of this team. But yeah, it's it's the fact that the defense is getting crushed just takes away a lot of that credibility.
00:57:26
Speaker
um it The fact that that Dak did this with four offensive line starters out like that, that's credit to his MVP campaign. Like it's making Jake Ferguson look like prime Tony Gonzalez. Like he's hitting George Pickens on 45 yard touchdown passes.
00:57:44
Speaker
Dak looks incredible. I, I think, you know, front of the MVP races, it's Dak, it's Baker Mayfield, It's Daniel Jones. Like who would have seen that coming? um And it's fun to watch.
00:57:56
Speaker
um But yeah, the the Jets are a mess and yeah you just you can't schedule any wins for them. Like even if you look you look forward in their schedule, you're like, all right, where can we really find one here? What's the the path for the Jets winning?
00:58:10
Speaker
They got the Broncos next week. Like that's going to be a bloodbath. Then they got the Panthers. Who knows if they can compete in that game? You go Bengals Browns after that, which maybe that's where you find your first win. but Part of me says the Browns kind of killed them in that game. Maybe it's that Bengals game. we got We're circling that Bengals game.
00:58:28
Speaker
Must win. Must win for Aaron Glenn and the Jets. um But yeah, that it was a mess. Another game that was a mess. Texans 44, Ravens 10. Wow. We should have taken them the Texans, Patrick. This is ah feels like we have one of those every week where we identify that spread and we're like, what's really going on here? This has moved a ton.
00:58:49
Speaker
And we don't jump on it. And Houston absolutely blew out Baltimore. This was one of the more lopsided results in all of week five. CJ Stroud was surgical. 23 at 27, 244, four touchdowns.
00:59:05
Speaker
Texans ah offense looked great. I mean, you could put a peewee football team up against this Ravens defense, and I think they would look great. And Baltimore without Lamar Jackson is just a rudderless ship. Like,
00:59:19
Speaker
I'm officially saying the Ravens are dead. Still the favorites to win the division. How about that? i just I think there's still fourth or fifth odds on to win the Super Bowl.
00:59:30
Speaker
think Lamar is still top five in MVP odds. They lose this game with Lamar Jackson at quarterback. yeah It's closer. It's lot closer. it's It's a good football game even maybe.
00:59:41
Speaker
They lose. It's just a real, real shame what's going on in Baltimore. 44 points to to a team, the Houston Texans, where they didn't have an offensive line.
00:59:54
Speaker
and And like CJ Stroud's now starting to get some swagger back. There's back-to-back weeks where he actually looks, you know, like his rookie self and he's he's starting to maybe get confidence back. And the Baltimore Ravens are turning into a get right game for these teams.
01:00:08
Speaker
Think about that. They were ah like second odds to win Super Bowl. Like obviously they're still somehow top five. I don't really understand because Steelers had a bye week.
01:00:18
Speaker
All three teams in the AFC North lost this past week. It's not like the Steelers have the most difficult schedule in the world. The second half is definitely a lot harder, but it feels like if the Steelers can get to nine wins...
01:00:33
Speaker
10 seals it. If the Steelers get to 10 wins, they win the division. I don't think it's even that's a controversial opinion, and I think nine might get it done. I don't really get the Ravens still being the favorites to win the division.
01:00:44
Speaker
No, neither do I. And it's like, at what point at what point is the white flag go up? like it They play the Rams next week. Rams are going to crush them. like Is that the game where everyone's like, all right, Raven season's done?
01:00:56
Speaker
like At what point is it like, okay, this is done? I don't know. And it's like, and like the Steelers are five and a half point favorites against the Browns. It's like right there. It should be that if the Steelers win and the Ravens lose next week, it feels like it's over.
01:01:10
Speaker
Yeah. I'm not saying it is, but it just feels that way. And the odds are not reflecting that. I don't really understand.

Texans and Colts Dominate

01:01:16
Speaker
Yeah. Jump on the Steelers if you want to. But yeah, absolute mess with the Ravens. Part of me is like, there's a spin zone that if they just really bought them out and they get like a,
01:01:26
Speaker
like a top five pick, a top six pick and just add like an absolute demon to this roster. Maybe next year iss the year. Um, but yeah, it's, it's a mess there. Last two games here.
01:01:37
Speaker
Another one with a lot of scoreboard makeup that really wasn't close down the stretch lines, 37 pengals, 24.
01:01:45
Speaker
um Another three touchdown Jared Goff game. um Jamar Chase still somehow had 110 yards and two touchdowns. ah And he was also at one point in this game tied for the team's lead in tackles with three all off of Jake Browning interceptions.
01:02:03
Speaker
Jake Browning is loves turning the ball over like that is. That is what the MO of this Bengals team right now is like, we're going to turn the ball over four to five times a game.
01:02:15
Speaker
Yeah, Zach Taylor saying um they will be weighing all options at quarterback. So maybe Jameis Winston you know gets gets freed out of New York as a third stringer.
01:02:26
Speaker
ah yet Chase Brown, another horrible performance. Pat's fantasy corner here. Keep an eye on some RJP Ryan if you want. I can see him getting involved in this game. Or sorry, in the Bengals offense throughout the season.
01:02:38
Speaker
And yeah, another guy we can add to the MVP campaign is Jared Goff. just Just ethical, clean football out there. ah Just a very efficient, finds a way to not turn the ball over and get two to three touchdown passes every single game.
01:02:52
Speaker
Yeah, this game went, you know, according to plan. yeah you know detroit covers the spread thank you thank you i needed this one um and yeah and then like i don't know the other game it was same same kind of thing you had a winner there yeah yeah colts 40 raider six this was disrespectful line of the week i'm gonna be hunting for these all season like six and a half point favorites the colts were in this game i jumped on it they win 40 to six another jonathan taylor game where it feels like he's going to finish this season with 40 touchdowns. Like it is the pace he's on right now is ridiculous.
01:03:28
Speaker
Gino, man, bad. Oh, it is. and and you know what i love is like the cold takes. resurfacing from the offseason. I saw Mina Kimes one being like, what are the Steelers doing with Aaron Rodgers? Why didn't they go out and get Geno Smith? And it's like, this is why, because this has always been Geno. This is Geno.
01:03:48
Speaker
He's not writing back. He is writing back. I don't know can't remember which one's the right one, but it's it is ah mess in Las Vegas. I've been wrong about a million things on this podcast. One thing that I'm so happy I got right was Geno Smith has never been a good quarterback.
01:04:05
Speaker
He is not, and he never will be. And it was nice that he was able to have a career or renaissance, make some more money for himself, get his name back out there. It's bad. And Pete Carroll, maybe you probably should have stayed retired as well. This is not, we kind of thought like after week one, you know, the Raiders, Oh, they beat the the Patriots. This team can be frisky. Maybe they rip off seven, eight wins.
01:04:26
Speaker
bottom feeder it's a bottom feeder team the Raiders look bad Geno Smith bad Gente is like slowly getting more consistent which I guess is a bright spot uh but yeah like without Brock Bowers and yeah it's it's bad in in Vegas and the Colts hell of a bounce back game we're we're taking you seriously like yeah I'm um taking the Colts as a serious contender in the in the NFL nice nice response man yeah very nice response from the Colts and and It's one where it's like, okay, yeah, this team is very, very legit. um
01:04:59
Speaker
I want to say that Jonathan Taylor is on is literally on pace. think he has seven touchdowns through five games here. and What ah what do they have, 12 games left? you You play 17 games? Yes.
01:05:13
Speaker
So he's on pace for an insane we're not math guys. He's on pace for literally like 50 touchdowns. Not math guys. um Yeah, so Very, very impressive to see um Taylor in this ah offense. But yeah, without further ado, we will get to our three stars of the week, which there this is this is tough.
01:05:34
Speaker
This is like maybe one of the tougher ones. Feels like we say that every week um where there are just a ton, a ton of candidates. I've got a couple names that I think that that got to be on here.
01:05:48
Speaker
um But I think that that we could go a ton of different ways with this. um the The first one I'll throw out there, Rico Dattle, like it. 23 carries 206 yards, a touchdown. I think you get you break 200 yards as a running back. You have to be on this list.
01:06:04
Speaker
He's number one. And it's also, he gets bonus points because we might, he might we might never see him again. yeah mean? He might just fade into the sun. one week wonder. Uh, doubt he'll have to be first star just, just cause it's awesome.
01:06:16
Speaker
Uh, I, you know, you'll look, you'll look to that Seahawks Buccaneers game. I lean egg Buka over Smith and jig buck. Cause they got the win.
01:06:28
Speaker
Um, I, I kind of see him as maybe the second star, but willing to willing to discuss other possibilities. No, I had him as my second star. Seven catches, 163 receiving yards, one touchdown. i think this was one of those ones where, and he also led all receivers in week five in yardage. This was one of those games where if you watched this game, it's impossible that he wouldn't be the second star because he was just impacting every single drive, nearly every single play.
01:06:56
Speaker
i think there's one, i think Sam Darnold should probably be an honorable mention in this game, like four touchdowns. And the amount of yards that he put up in this game, what was it? It was 28 of 34, 341, four touchdowns, which is just mental.
01:07:14
Speaker
um My last one here, I think Bill Krosky-Meritt. 14 carries, 111 yards on the ground, two touchdowns, two receptions for 39 yards, finishes with 150 all-purpose.
01:07:30
Speaker
that It's insane. Yeah, no, that that works for me because like Jonathan Taylor had three touchdowns, but didn't really have the yardage in this one. Karen Williams had a nice game, but you kind of always forget about the Thursday nighter.
01:07:43
Speaker
Matt Stafford, too. Yeah. And like Jamar Chase and a losing effort like that. Shout out CJ Stroud and Dak. They also threw for four touchdowns, but i'm I'm more than fine with putting Bill as the third star of the week. Yeah. You could almost make an entire honorable mention list out of quarterbacks this week. Like Stroud, Dak and Darnold would all be very fitting members of that. um Yeah. Stroud 23 to 27 to 44 for touchdowns.
01:08:08
Speaker
then again it's like playing against the Ravens. Yeah. Yeah. No, he's not, he's not a third star, but just like, you know, ignore acknowledge him. Um, all right. On to our NFL picks.
01:08:21
Speaker
I was five and seven. I went one and two. I am now six and nine. Patrick was four and eight. He went one and two. He is now five and 10.
01:08:33
Speaker
We stink dude. And it's every week. Like I had the Rams in that Thursday night game. That should that should have been a layup. And I don't get that.
01:08:44
Speaker
I take the Dolphins. That was probably pretty stupid. That one I deserve. But the Rams I did not deserve. You didn't deserve that Cardinals loss. that We're just getting pummeled, dude.
01:08:55
Speaker
Yeah, did fade us. I'm not changing anything. like I'm sticking this out. I'm riding it. It's like it's almost impressive how bad it's become.

Gambling Woes and Week 6 NFL Picks

01:09:03
Speaker
One and two. You can just pencil me in for one and two every single week. No matter what I pick, I could start throwing darts i like the at any game in any side. Whichever one I land on, or out over three, I'm going to go one and two. So fade us if you want to make some money.
01:09:18
Speaker
But I mean, I'm going to try my best to dig out of this hole. Yeah, you you might have to start auto-fading. See, sometimes I try that and I somehow pick the wrong side still. It's it's bad because the the only thing I have going for me is somehow, I don't know how, I don't have a winless week.
01:09:37
Speaker
I somehow get one winner every week. And if I can somehow, it's almost like it's it feels impossible, but I can get like two 3-0 weeks or I go 3-0 and 2-1 and back-to-back weeks, I could talk myself into getting back to 500, but...
01:09:52
Speaker
So far, I have not shown any signs of being able to do that. Yeah, yeah, no, it's me neither, man. um Without further ado, week six NFL picks. I still hold the ball here.
01:10:04
Speaker
And I'm going to start with a game where I'm hunting similar to that cold spread last week. And I'm going to start with the Denver Broncos minus seven on the road against the New York Jets.
01:10:17
Speaker
The Jets are not a good football team. The Broncos defense is incredible. So i even if that is the Jets positive is that they look all right on offense, you're going up against a top three defense in Denver.
01:10:31
Speaker
I like Denver to win this game by more than a touchdown. And I think it'll be low scoring. England game bright and early for you and on Sunday morning. ah dad I don't mind that at all.
01:10:43
Speaker
Over 46 and a half Seahawks Jaguars. i I think these are two pretty good offenses. Maybe it's this, the Monday night game stuck in my brain. Maybe it's that Seahawks bucks game. This is why I'm a bad gambler um ah over 46 and a half in that one.
01:10:57
Speaker
Yep. Don't hate that at all. I, I, I gotta start getting into totals more. I think that that is, that is maybe a path to winning here for me. um

MVP Odds and CFL Highlights

01:11:06
Speaker
I'm going to, Go back to the well here, except on the opposite side. I'm taking the Chargers minus four and a half against the Dolphins.
01:11:14
Speaker
Chargers are on the road. I think this is a perfect bounce back spot for the Chargers who have now lost two in a row. The Dolphins are not a good football team. Even if this Chargers running back room is filled with no one, they will still be able to run the ball on the Dolphins.
01:11:28
Speaker
The Chargers four and a half.
01:11:33
Speaker
that Yeah, I mean, fade the Dolphins. ah it's not a bad It's not a bad strategy. i'm I'm good for this every single week. I just take the grossest, the most disgusting pick ah on the board.
01:11:44
Speaker
this This line, like some of them, you know, I had my eye on on Tampa last week. I was right. I should have gone with that one. This one should be, this team should be favored by six points, maybe six and a half points.
01:11:56
Speaker
I'm taking the New Orleans Saints plus three and a half at home against the New England Patriots. The Patriots should be favored by like a touchdown. I don't understand.
01:12:07
Speaker
Our frisky Saints, time to back it up. I'm putting i'm putting my my backing behind you. Lose this game by a field goal at home. i I love that because I thought you were going the whole way with the Patriots there.
01:12:20
Speaker
And yeah, this is The grossest pick on the board. It has to be. i am i can't understand it It's very gross. um And this is a week with some very, very gross games.
01:12:33
Speaker
um I'm going to take <unk> take over 43 and a half in Bengals Packers. um Packers defense did not look good the last time we saw them.
01:12:46
Speaker
The fact that the Bengals were still able to eke out as many points as they were against the Lions, like 21 fourth quarter points. You give me a backdoor over there. i like the over in the Bengals and the Packers.
01:13:01
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, Green Bay might hit it a that my yeah hit it by themselves. English, Pat, speak it. um I'm going to go. God, I fell for this line earlier in the season, but Baltimore ended up being a really bad football team.
01:13:16
Speaker
So I don't think this is a bad football team. Sunday night football. Give me the Lions plus two and a half on the road against the Chiefs. i am This line should be flipped. In my opinion, it should be flipped. I get home field, but I'm going with the Lions. I almost took the over, but i'm gonna I'm going to stake my claim and back the Lions as underdogs in this one.
01:13:36
Speaker
Yeah, I like that a lot. And I think this is, yeah, a lot different than that Ravens. This is a lot more similar to when the Lions beat up on the Ravens and they were underdogs by five and a half points. Yeah, yeah. I think the Lions have been kind of disrespected by the oddsmakers this year, which doesn't really make sense.
01:13:52
Speaker
I also just took a peek at the MVP odds. Josh Allen is plus 135. That is
01:13:59
Speaker
i am that is is just the most district like disrespectful to the rest of the league. That's ridiculous. Yeah, and Mahomes, plus 430, second favorite. like what What are we doing here?
01:14:12
Speaker
Dak Prescott, 22-1. The bet just went in. o That's tasty. that's a That's a Vernon Adams pick right there. And speaking of Vernon Adams, we'll now move to a quick little CFL roundup and our CFL picks, which at least we still go two and two every week in our CFL picks.
01:14:30
Speaker
um Tough, tough week for the Argos. You finally get eliminated from the playoffs with just an absolute stinker against the Hamilton Ticats. You got a packed building, like 21,000 people there.
01:14:46
Speaker
It's ah that first half was one of the worst first halves I've ever seen or ever been to at an Argos game. Just putrid um and they can't get anything right now. Nick Arbuckle out for the rest of the season.
01:15:00
Speaker
Jared Diggie still scheduled to start. And they're like, we will be evaluating Tucker Horne. Get Diggy out of there. Just show me Horn and then put Duggan in in as as the backup. Why don't we see what both of those guys have? Who cares anymore?
01:15:13
Speaker
Might as well. You're 10 and a half point underdogs on the road to the riders. It's just just do it. You know, they they finally decided to announce that Chad Kelly shut down as well for the rest the season. Like took you long enough. yeah We saw that one coming. I'm happy we were on the right side of that. We didn't fall for it.
01:15:30
Speaker
just Just a really disappointing lost season for the Argos, especially after you know the past couple of years. Thought it was going to be more of the same, and it was just so disappointing. And like you said, like I turned on TV a little bit, and from what I've heard, the crowd actually showed up against that game against Hamilton, and they just still laid a stinker at home in against your rival.
01:15:52
Speaker
Yeah, it's not a good performance from the Argonauts ah last weekend. Disgusting. um And similar for the Red Blacks on that that Friday night, um was working that game. Red Blacks, man, I've never seen um've never seen a team shoot themselves like that, like in the head, not even the foot. They just shot themselves in the head. Drew Brown pulled from that game after three interceptions.
01:16:17
Speaker
and and the Rough Riders did not look good in that game either. I mean, this Ottawa defense is actually decent, which is like the surprising thing, and that was without Lorenzo Malden. um Saskatchewan, Mike fell over.
01:16:30
Speaker
um Saskatchewan, they they've got some things to to fix here, and I am shocked that they did not try to get Liram Haralahu from the Argos at the trade deadline. Like,
01:16:41
Speaker
using a backup kicker because Brett Lawler was out. He misses his first extra point attempt. Like it was missed another one. Like they were just going for two because they, I think they had zero confidence in the guy's foot at all.
01:16:55
Speaker
That's going to bite this team in the ass. Like it has to, at some point in the playoffs here. Shout out to some U sports lore here. ah They cut Laurier punter and kicker Dawson Hodge, who eventually went back to Laurier this year.
01:17:10
Speaker
Maybe he could have done something on this team. But yeah, the the the backup kicker going out there and missing the the extra point, it was just like, oh my God. they It feels like whoever they put in there, it kind of feels cursed. But yeah, Harlau who's just sitting there, ah like we said, in a lost season for the Argos, you're going to need big kicks in the playoffs and he can provide that for you.
01:17:33
Speaker
And you can just... I think we said this like halfway through, maybe even before halfway through the season, you can just see the riders losing a game on a missed field goal in the playoffs. Absolutely. um And then the last game, BC, man, this is BC as all systems go here. 38 to 24 against the stamps stamps, man. They got serious problems.
01:17:55
Speaker
This ah offense is looking very dysfunctional. The defense has lost a lot of its teeth that it had early in the season. Nathan Rourke needs to win MOP.
01:18:06
Speaker
Like it it, it has to happen. His stats jump off the page at you. He is passing for a zillion yards a game. He's passing for, it seems like three to four touchdowns a game. He's at 4,500 yards and 27 touchdowns.
01:18:22
Speaker
And it's, and he's played 16 games. Yeah. Just, just such a good bounce back season. Uh, after, after the chaos of last year, BC is my pick to win the great cup right now.
01:18:36
Speaker
They're five to one, the fifth best odds. Calgary has better odds than them to, or lower odds than them to win the great cup. Little bit questionable there, but I, I like BC rounding into form at the right time. We just touched on with the riders, not necessarily looking as good as they once were in this season. And, uh, I just don't,
01:18:54
Speaker
The East, the East is just sketchy. yeah I don't want to touch the East. I i respect Montreal with Davis Alexander. i think they're my pick to come out of the East if if he stays healthy.
01:19:05
Speaker
But BCF 5-1 to me is the best value on the board. Yeah, and they're going to end up hosting a a home playoff game in that that Western semifinal. In that game, it's a massive, massive game because they leapt frog the stamps to be second seed in the West.
01:19:21
Speaker
They've obviously clinched the playoffs like it is. i do not, if I'm in any team in the CFL right now, I do not want to run into the lions. um But without further ado, we will now do our week 19 CFL picks.
01:19:36
Speaker
cfl picks We were 30 and 22. We went two and two. We are now 32 and 24, still up eight units here. And there's some interesting games on the board. Here's two really, really big spreads and two really small spreads.
01:19:52
Speaker
Just about what way you kind of want to go with it. And i think I have one lead starting off here. Hamilton at home against the stamps team that is floundering as of late.
01:20:03
Speaker
I like the, the tie cats to cover two and a half at home against the stamps. Fading the stamps past couple weeks is just, it's the p play. and We did it last week. I think we did the week before.
01:20:15
Speaker
Like I, it's, it's like I just said, the BC being five to one after looking at the current state of the riders and the stamps is just, it's a mistake in my opinion, but it is what it is. You can get it. You put it in. I will.
01:20:27
Speaker
I like the pick. i I just can't do it with the Argos. I just can't. The the season's over. It's, you know, they they know it's over. Daggy is in there.
01:20:38
Speaker
They're going to rough riders. I'm laying 10 and a half with the riders at home. Yep. Yeah. This is a, it's very similar to that Ottawa pick last, last weekend. It had no problems. So,
01:20:51
Speaker
it's we've we've lost our crutch because bc is on is on by this week it's it ah feels like over the past four or five weeks we've looked directly to bc games either for overs or for bc on the spread to just be like help us out here give us an auto pick um i want it i want something in this blue bombers elks game it's a massive game for western standings Elks are at home. They're three and a half point dogs in this game.
01:21:16
Speaker
And I like him as a dog. I like him with the hook there. I'm going to take the Elks plus three and a half here. and think the Elks play feisty football. They play like they have nothing to lose, which in a game like this is perfect.
01:21:27
Speaker
I like the Elks at home as underdogs. Crowds, crowds been showing up to I, I, if I had to pick that game, I would, I would go with Edmonton as well. Maybe look to the under.
01:21:39
Speaker
I'm going to kind of do what I should have done last week in the Riders rough blocks, red blocks game. um I'm going to take the under in that game. I much of 13 point favorites. Oh my Lord. Under 51 and a half in Alouette's red blocks.
01:21:53
Speaker
Red blocks might not score a point. Yeah, it's a, And that I'm with you there because i think this is a perfect tune up game for Montreal to really get informed before the playoffs here. Ottawa is just a lost cause at this point.
01:22:09
Speaker
And it sucks, too, because there's so many good players on that roster. It's just it's mind melding like it is. Justin Hardy is great. You know, Lewis is great. It just sucks. The defense is good. Like they they just can't figure out anything. And it's sad to see. But we're we're ramping up here. We are we are right close. It is the third last week of the season.
01:22:30
Speaker
We're be getting into playoffs before you know it here. And and the Great Cup is like a month away. Still no halftime ah performer announced, which is... know. It's a bit big concerning, Patrick. Past past couple of years, the CFL, you know, for all the you know the the garbage and slander they take, they've been doing a really good job hammering that advertisement of the halftime show. It's been maybe their...
01:22:52
Speaker
They've been advertising the halftime show more than the Grey Cup, it feels like, some years. Still haven't announced it, and we're, what, just over a month away? Maybe month and a half? I don't know, but it's it's it's weird that they haven't announced it. who Have they talked about candidates even?
01:23:07
Speaker
and i don't I got nothing on that, dude. like it is It is sketchy, and and the years in the past that they have done this, it has resulted in some pretty messy halftime shows. So it's

CFL Grey Cup Speculations

01:23:19
Speaker
it's not an inspiring thing.
01:23:22
Speaker
Tahir, let's see. like Any news on it? Nothing. Spending too much time changing rules and not not focusing on the on the halftime show. Like we said, that the rule changes should have been an off-season move. I'm not against the rule changes, but it feels like it should have been an off-season move and the timing was weird and you should have announced the halftime show went during like the timing. You know what I mean? like The timing, it feels...
01:23:45
Speaker
a weird, but you know, Stuart Johnson, let's, uh, let's figure this one out here. Let's, let's get on it. I don't know who the candidates are. and know I cut nothing on that. Who would you want?
01:23:57
Speaker
I don't know, but it's got, wreck it's got rec laws written all over it. It's got rec laws written all over it, man. It was like a giant button in the CFL head office to press when you need the rec laws. Um, yeah. Rec laws are always good for a a last second.
01:24:13
Speaker
<unk>s like the it's like the Grey Cup or like CFL playoffs and World Juniors. The rec laws just make their entirety of of their earnings for the year. yeah they them

Episode Recap and Farewell

01:24:22
Speaker
in tsn and tsn have a nice business relationship and it i seriously like if i had to pick a they would be my favorite if i was setting odds the rec laws would be my odds on favorite because i just it it's too late of a notice for big bands in my opinion yeah and big big artists you know what i mean it's just i just it's got rec laws written all over it man yeah not great um
01:24:45
Speaker
But without further ado, that'll do it for us this week at the Gold Post. Thanks for listening. Another exciting week in the NFL. CFL ramping up towards the playoffs, and we'll be back here all again to do it next week.
01:24:57
Speaker
Until then, Patrick, I'll see you. See you, Damian. Hey, little sister, what have you...
01:25:19
Speaker
You want a little sister?
