Speaker: What were your thoughts on Saturday's race and where does that pit road wreck? Rate on your levels of clusterfuck. Pete. I'll start with you. So little did we know going into the weekend.
Speaker: That. We all sat there and assumed that that crash on pit road was going to be the craziest most disappointing shocking thing from the entire weekend which I would say it was. I mean that was extremely frightening. and I did not realize just how...
Speaker: Narrow. And short, those pit boxes were. because you barely had a lane and a half to sort of exit your pit box. And the stack up that happened, we saw it in the cup race, even on the pit entry. access road You can get bad stack ups that would happen there and you'd have to take to the grass. so
Speaker: Yeah, probably one of the most frightening sort of pit lane scenarios that I've seen in a long time, just because those cars were going even, at I think, like a 30 or 45 mile per hour pit lane speed limit.
Speaker: Just... coming within mere inches of... those crew members was. Yeah. Very, very... Very scary. Glad no one got injured.
Speaker: Um, I think a couple cars. Who was it? Nick Sanchez's car was. Yeah. Killed. And. Raj's car was pretty badly hurt. but Yeah.
Speaker: The race itself, the track was... really sporty. That. I'm gonna lay on this more when we get to the actual cop series race, but It's a good track.
Speaker: Because... You had drivers like Austin Hill. He was going all the way up to... The... The wall. in some of those and actually making speed off it and it was very impressive to see Really? Good rate. I'll tell you. entertaining race all the way around.
Speaker: I think at some phase we've got to have the conversation about. Man, this points format. We're not there yet. like This is a far better than the playoffs, knockout, all that other BS. but this stills feels a bit slimy and and this is coming out of someone who really really likes um Sheldon Creed, and I'm excited that he's got a chance for a championship.
Speaker: Allgar was so much better this entire season and essentially have that points lead erased and now he's On the back foot. Just... feels gross. so Hopefully.

Speaker: And one, Kansas has run well at one. Vegas has run well at one. HMS has always been good. Charlotte Phoenix has run out and won. Talladega, yeah. Martinsville, yeah. but than Miami where he's run well out and won.

Speaker: And... They might have found something this past week. but I still don't think that they've got it. The... it. that is necessary to go compete on the remaining mile and a half, which I think he'll need to do.
Speaker: So with that in mind. I just don't see it. Now I will say this. Denny Hamlin's not doing ah having a bad run. Well, he had a bad run last week, or excuse me, the week before. but he recovered well, scored scored stage points where he could.
Speaker: He's gotta find that. form that he found that led him to four wins.
Speaker: I think the thing is, is there's no... More so, they just not feel like there is a favorite. come on any of the chase drivers. It still feels like anyone in the top.
Speaker: Eight. could make something happen. Like at this point, I've resigned my fate to like Joey Logano could very well be a champion. And hopefully that moves us one step to killing this.
Speaker: you know, format and just getting us back to full season, but wherever, wherever it gets us, they're fine. But I think I need to top it right now. I would not be shocked to see it win. So I'm not going to go and say that Kyle Larson, especially Kyle Larson in a Chevrolet.
Speaker: is going to be a... title favorite. Now, who do I think is? Yeah, your guess is as good as mine. but Yeah, i'm not I'm not going that. you know, on that ledge. No, sir.

Speaker: A great weekend. It's just... astronomically powerful i mean just that 70 plus points when everyone else is in the 50s or 40s That's a backbreaker.
Speaker: Yeah, with the number of drivers... you know crack off a win. Yeah. There's no favorite right now. No, sir

Speaker: It looked like that the Fords were shopping and the Toyota. Parts been yesterday with all the brick failures that we saw from them. Did you love, like, or hate? The cup race.
Speaker: Art. Is Calamity on your your rabbi cheering schedule this year? You know, I do love some calamity, but I have to admit, this is not the flavor.
Speaker: Of Calamity. That is my preference. My favorite Calamity race still is... the indie road course race where it was a clusterfuck and Chase Briscoe dumped Denny Hammer. Like, that's the level. of calamity that I'm okay with.
Speaker: This felt like too much. I... was Very shocked to see this race be at 70 % yes. on a Glucks poll at one point.
Speaker: I just feel like it was too much wrecking, man. you know One of the things that we've talked about on here, the one thing that kills me the most when I go to watch a race. I wait all week. I work hard all week. I get through the weekend. I sit down Sunday afternoon and I can't wait to watch this cup race. I wait all week to watch this cup race.
Speaker: The first thing I turn it on. First of all, you'll start late, say 3 o 'clock. The race don't start until 3 .15. F1, shout out to y 'all for being on time. but Race finally starts.
Speaker: And in the first... Five minutes. We're into Kasha. Costume, costume, costume. you know we can't get 10 laps go. I saw a stat that said... you know They only had two segments.
Speaker: Where they went longer than 10 laps green. They had one segment, that that one long run near the end, and then they had another segment of like 12. Everything else was under 10 laps of... consecutive green flags like i don't like that i think That was... kind of a shit show in a bad way. And.
Speaker: I do like the fact that... you know The parts are not guaranteed. I appreciate the idea of a mechanical failure, that ticking time bomb. If you pushed it too hard, you put too much tape on that thing.
Speaker: It's going to blow up on you. You know, I appreciate that. but I did not like this. i felt This race felt like a chore. It was four hours almost to the minute, and it felt like every one of them. Um,
Speaker: i did not enjoy this at all were there moments that were entertaining yes of course but This was a dud for me. I don't know if this is the worst race of the year for me, but it... It might be up there, honestly. That's how much I i disliked it.
Speaker: Damn. Payton. We'll be watching two different races. So there is nothing... that Arthur said, and this pains me to say it.
Speaker: Oh god. There's nothing that our... There is nothing that Arthur said. That is factually incorrect. that's right that's right Spiritually.
Speaker: End it right there. spiritually, yeah he might be incorrect. So here's here's the problem with it. Here's the problem with all this. You know what? track or what race needed.
Speaker: Um. billion cautions to spice it, make it interesting. That godforsaken... race I went to in Martinsville. 2022 or whenever they decided to do it under the lights and then it starts leading snow and it was like minus you know negative 5 ,000 degrees.
Speaker: It was miserable when they just ran out of conveyor belts. You know what? That race. Take... take those cautions and double it and give it to the Martinsville that year. Cause that would have spiced it up. Cause that was, no one could do anything. So might as well just have them crash.
Speaker: What made this one bitter? Weed? is that track was racy. That was a sporty track. Folks were running high, they were running low. They were trying to take angles.
Speaker: And it. was allowing us to see like okay Here's another track where... surprisingly, the next -gen car works. And they just supported by this. shoving their heads up their own tookuses and just wrecking non -stop and it's such a bummer because I think we could have seen something really interesting. Now, I will say a lot of the positions were made probably from the first five laps. of a. caution because Well, we saw that segment where.
Speaker: Amen. The one car stayed out. and held off. Cars on four tires, I believe, they held off the... ah what the six car and the 22.
Speaker: So. There were some signs that... If it got strung out, it could get a bit tough. but Yeah. it Did... Yeah. had Half of those cautions, get rid of them. And truthfully, get rid of the brake failure cautions.
Speaker: Obviously, it's a team's choice. They're pushing a performance envelope to try to get extra. out of the car by saving weight and things like that. But it's such a risk to driver safety. You're just really asking a lot. And the thing is, the driver probably say, hey. Get me every bit of performance you can. I don't care how you do it.
Speaker: Just make sure we can get to the end and push the um envelope.
Speaker: Hearing Bubba Wallace speak after the race, that he said they that Toyota made big efforts to improve. There. break package into their credit. Now those 23 -11 callers had...
Speaker: Issue with the brakes now 23 of them cars did spend a lot of time with other issues some might be self -inflicted others might not be but we can discuss that later but That's good. Yeah. The brake motors are... Always frightening. I wish there was a way they could sort of... legislate that or help minimize the incentive for them to go aggressive.
Speaker: in that aspect. Like I'd rather go, you know, go more aggressive in horsepower, something like that. Try to get, you know, something more of that, but not something where. You just see how...
Speaker: Well, corners like that and straightaway speeds like that.
Speaker: It's like hitting just a straight... 90 degree wall. It's Pocono -esque, so. Yeah, glad no one was badly injured Although Zane Smith. I was going to say, we don't know if that's true. Yeah, actually, yeah, we do not know if that's true. Zane will not be in Bristol. Poor man. He did not look like he was having a... a good health day after that. so But...
Speaker: Overall, yeah, I actually voted yes because the race it. it was very intriguing i could not stop watching But it was also. a low point in terms of Yeah, these are good drivers. I think we all said the they very popular these Stink.
Speaker: quite a bit. And yeah, they yeah these these boys ah stunk. So.

Speaker: um However, comma. Um, This felt like a it got I got a little ah chase experience. Playoff is apparently taboo now at NASCAR, but it it felt like ah a chase experience. You had a lot of teams risking it for the biscuit.
Speaker: um You had some HMS cars. um had varying uh degrees of break openings and break ducts and how much air do you want to get to the brakes and you saw all the failures that were He saw Penske cars cheated up with all the the tape on the brake ducts. how they ah the cards fell with those. Front row had some issues. so You saw a lot of.
Speaker: typically good drivers and great teams struggle with The conditions, it was hot. Um, you know, 750. ah These really long straightaways and these really tight corners, like Peyton said, it was it really it was a recipe for disaster, and that's exactly what we got.
Speaker: Um, But as far as by. yeah from my viewing standpoint. I feel like um I was with it. all day. I was with it all day. I love the chaos. I love the re -rack them and let's go. The only time you really get to pass in this car is on restart. So I was highly entertained because by the time the field got strung out just enough. Here goes SVG.
Speaker: Here's Ricky Stenhouse doing something back there in the back of the doghouse. you know they had to come get their The the bowl's full of water and I had to go out and do it again. So I had fun. That was a great race.

Speaker: the short track experience that we've not received in so long. um like he had drivers mad at each other you had you had some mouse you had people moving one another that was great We've got something that we've not seen at Martinsville.
Speaker: since what, Denny Hamlin and... Alex Bowman you know tangling one another so Yeah. Well, it was great when they raced. The problem is they only race for half the time. and if i think Well, I think that just gave it that feel of just...
Speaker: The old Bristol days where it's just dudes just running over each other nonstop. off. It's just something we've not seen in a long time. in a long time, especially not especially not at Oval.
Speaker: This felt like... ah This track felt like a the love child of New Hampshire and Darlington, which is ironic considering the schedule. but It really gave me those kind of vibes. Hey, man, heat he aggravates you, bro.
Speaker: Like when you're hot. It makes you mad. And every time. The race stopped. The heat soaked into the car that may have been wired. There were so many break issues just with with the constant salvages of the race and the break fans that have been running all that stuff. but um Yeah, man, you know.
Speaker: he he doesn't make you a calm person i know me personally andm i'm mad as hell if i'm hot so Also, I wonder if the drivers are staying at the track. So a lot of times they'll bring their... their own personal motor coaches and stay like on track property.
Speaker: And... A lot of these tracks are sort of in. Eh, boring, nothing to do areas. uh maybe they got a chance to pop over the river and go into the actual city but I've never heard there's a whole lot to do in East St. Louis. so And I could also have them riled up as well, just being cooped up, not really having any place to go. Can't burn off any energy. Right. Well, also, too, you know, there is a couple people talking about.
Speaker: Denny and how thin he looked at the end of the race and to your point like it's hot but then also this car is so sealed up you're not getting hardly any air And so then... That just compounds the issue you you pointed out with the the heat getting in the car, right? Like these things are so sealed up. There's no air getting in these things.
Speaker: And they run the right the right side window. And... ah you know It's just brutal. It's just absolutely brutal how sealed up this... ah this uh this car is so Yeah, man. Rough time. rough time To expand on that, who was your biggest winner and loser after yesterday's race?
Speaker: I'll start with you, Art. Who you got? Um... I was going to say Larson, but that feels like a cop -out now because I just said that I think he's going to be the championship. for Um...
Speaker: Probably.
Speaker: I mean, maybe it was the, what you call it? Um, hosts of our Just because he had a quiet day. The fact that no one's talking about him after the last couple of weeks, he might be one.
Speaker: Um... I'm trying to think of who probably the next best. Biggest winner.
Speaker: I was looking at the standings. No one really had a great day. Sire. I guess.
Speaker: Yeah, but actually, no, I'll take that back. I got another one. um What's his name? Oh boy, in the 21. Josh Berry was solid for a while. I mean, he drove like an idiot at points, but...
Speaker: Yes. but Then again, everyone did. So I guess I really can't hold that against him this week. I think everyone's just. Everyone's stooped to his level. um Yeah, he had he some some solid moments up there right up front. again i just Again, I've said it before, I'll say it again. I just find it suspicious that you start driving well as soon as you need a job. like What were you doing the last three years besides...
Speaker: Wrecking the hell out of everything. But anyway... I'll say Barry and um and Larson. the biggest winners. In terms of the biggest loser, um It's hard to call a guy in seventh in the points.
Speaker: a loser, but Lugano really needed this win, man. He needed this win bad. um I mean, he damn sure... Tried as hard as he... Got a stage win, got a bunch of stage points.
Speaker: And he was up there late, just didn't have the car and the tires and it just didn't work out for him. um this feels like one of this and phoenix are seeing like the two tracks where he can really control his destiny um more so than some of the rest, and to not be able to close the deal.
Speaker: um That's going to be ah a bitter pill, I think, by the end of the season. I feel like those points are going to come back to haunt him. If we're going to have this whole even -year Joey thing, he really needed to to get a dub this week. you just couldn't close.
Speaker: I'd say my Benny. biggest winner is going to be One. Bubba Wallace. um There were multiple times in the last 100 laps where...
Speaker: I changed the channel. I turned the turning station, turned off the TV. i wasn't I wasn't subscribing to this ignorance. But then malfeasance prevailed, and he ended up salvaging a day. uh Based on on -track performance. He probably could have got a top pin maybe in the top top top five I'm after they got the car fix. He was he had some speed but uh
Speaker: Malfeasance held him down, but I'm just glad have they bounced back. And he ended up not losing any points positions. He was as low as 15th and went as high as 7th, but ended up finishing the day.
Speaker: all right where he started so a big win for uh the 23 team i'd say the biggest loser of the day um Also... um would be Joey Logano.
Speaker: Um, After the qualifying lap he laid down, you thought that it was his race to lose. um because he won the poll by like four tenths of a second, which is outrageous. um But none of that speed really translated over to race trim.
Speaker: Um, Beheaded. Chargepoint, he scored a lot of points. um but... Cheers. the way the cautions fell, he couldn't. Either not take tires or take charge or whatever it was for him to get close enough to Larsen to make a run at him um And I feel like.
Speaker: There's still hope for him to to sneak in a win somewhere else that's not Phoenix or somewhere else that's not Martinsville. um I think that they'll ah take this on the chin and recoup him. and get a win maybe in saladega a place where nobody expects them to but Um...
Speaker: you normally after the speed he showed saturday afternoon i really thought that uh we'd have a different motivation to record this episode. but we don't have any motivation.
Speaker: Because of who won. Peyton. Bass winner. Biggest loser. Here you go. Yeah, I'm sure we're... Once again, kind of little polar opposites. I'm going to go and start with the people who really got a good shot at arming.
Speaker: None of them are chase drivers. I don't feel like. Any chase driver really did a lot. to put themselves in comp... completely different situation. For instance, I said before, even Larson Yes, this helps but it doesn't necessarily put him in some sort of territory where he was not before.
