Jarratt: Welcome to another episode of Victory Lane Vibes. We are your hostesses with the mostesses. It's Madeline, it's Peyton. Art is back to join us after. A dud.
Jarratt: in Vegas. I couldn't get... What's a V word that's... I need some alliteration. What's a V word that means dud?
Art Freea: V word? That means dud.
Madelyn: I don't think there is one
Art Freea: Don't pay any attention to the typing in the background.
Jarratt: Yeah. that's no problem we have a ah panel full of educated people
Art Freea: That's...
Jarratt: And also...
Art Freea: Valueless. How about that?
Jarratt: Boom! Whoa. okay
PEYTON: Thank you, Cloud.
Art Freea: it was It was Gemini. don't It was Google.
PEYTON: Okay.
Jarratt: Thanks, Jim. And I i think.
PEYTON: I tell you what, Gemini's not that bad.
Jarratt: ah
PEYTON: I think when you run that Google...
Art Freea: We don't endorse any AI products on the show.
PEYTON: I don't, I don't, but I tell you sometimes when I'm running a Google search and it just says like, Hey, here's the answer you were looking for.
Art Freea: again
PEYTON: I'm like, Oh. I don't know. I wanted to.
Jarratt: Yeah, Google's even getting lazy.
Art Freea: You know...
Jarratt: It'll AI the Google. only Wait a minute. Aren't these, what does it say?
Art Freea: You know, here's a pro tip. If you're trying to avoid the AI, did you know that if you set your Google location to Cuba? For some reason, they won't allow you to have any. Like any of those pop -ups or anything.
Jarratt: That's right.
Art Freea: Cuba's like we're not using that shit So shout out Cuba.
Jarratt: That's really dark art. I appreciate you bringing the vibes.
Art Freea: that's not dogs That's a fun fact. What are you talking? I do that. I don't want Gemini using mine.
PEYTON: I feel like he was... I feel like Cuba's got bigger fish to fry right now than...
Art Freea: Okay, so you guys have taken this in a different direction.
PEYTON: You know.
Jarratt: You know, we're just kind of weird.
Art Freea: I was just telling you how you could not.
Jarratt: Let's start the NASCAR show.
Madelyn: Move on. We gotta move on.
PEYTON: I was going to say.
Jarratt: about NASCAR weekend.
Art Freea: I'm ready to go home.
Jarratt: of NASCAR racing. Let's just do that. Let's begin. Question one. The need for creed effect is alive and well. after terrorism causes the seven to get knocked out of the race is this sheldon's championship to loot Peyton, you're a pro -shoulderner.
Jarratt: As am I. Is it his turn?
PEYTON: So one of the important aspects of being... you know uh one of Sheldon's uh Enthusiast. You've got to be a realist as well.
PEYTON: And here's the problem. He ran like 11th. He was. Not great all day. And you got more than the nationwide. Wow. I threw it back.
PEYTON: really
Art Freea: Ooh. I'm putting that on the board.
PEYTON: Nation, wow, how many sponsors ago was that?
Art Freea: All right.
PEYTON: That's like...
Jarratt: See you.
PEYTON: That's like five.
Art Freea: Three. yeah
PEYTON: Yeah, that's like five sponsors ago. Anywho. In that series, there's really like 15 competitive cars. So for him to sit around and run outside the top 10 That's going to be the problem.
PEYTON: is If he's not in the top five, he is. out of it not like super deep out of it but no this is far from over The thing is, I don't know who the second... guy is.
PEYTON: One would think it would be Allgaier, but... That hit knocked him out I mean, that put him in a tough situation, but... I think this could go down to the wire. I think there's no reason to to assume that Uh,
PEYTON: Quapel is... I think he's gonna be super competitive for it. Corey day in theory, if he keeps cracking off wins, I mean, we've seen how much of dividend those pay. So I think this is the most wide open championship.
PEYTON: of the three. And hopefully at some point we'll also discuss that race because that was a weird lopsided. Sort of a there.
Jarratt: madeline
Madelyn: I did not watch the O 'Reilly race this weekend. But... I did pick Sheldon Creed as who I thought was going to win the championship. on a TikTok video on like Thursday. So.
Madelyn: Sure, maybe it is his championship to lose. Why not? Whatever. I think it's most exciting. right now for me. the O 'Reilly Championship. I don't. feel as excited or enthused about the cup series championship right now feels a little bit more decided.
Madelyn: Then O 'Reilly. But I'm going to say it's Sheldon's to lose. Why not? Give him give him that. Why not?
Art Freea: Caden Honeycutt does not spark joy for you? That's crazy.
Madelyn: That does not spark joy for me.
Art Freea: That's crazy. Disrespect in the Honeycutt house. um I don't think it's his to lose yet. And the reason I say that is... him being Sheldon, ah just because we have Charlotte coming up this weekend, and Allgaier has been historically...
Art Freea: Very good. at charlotte so if he wore two go max points double stage win and a checkered flag. I would not be surprised at all by that. But I think...
Art Freea: Barring, you know. that level of performance then yeah i could see sheldon being consistent enough I think this... ah This chase format, I don't know if we've underestimated the value of stage points. I know we we'll talk about that here in a minute, but it seems like...
Art Freea: you know Even when you're having a bad day, you get a couple stage points. It's just keeping you afloat. i mean And Sheldon's got you know a 19 -point lead. over second place. I think it's Quapel. or love. I but i think it's Coppola's second. in the points.
Art Freea: So... That's a... decent amount of wiggle room for you to have an average day and still be a contender. so He's doing all the right things and sometimes you just have to be sort of a survivor and lucky and you know just not DNFing.
Art Freea: is enough to to keep you in the lead. so Allgaier does feel a bit... hot and cold this year right it seems like he's either a world beater or he's finishing in the 30s And...
Art Freea: I don't know. Maybe that's not this is not the the the format to reward that kind of performance. So maybe he he won't get that championship just because of that.
Jarratt: Looks like yeah points update. Carson's 19 bag of Sheldon. Jesse loves 21 Bag of Sheldon and Mr. Allgaier. It's 30 back. Um...
Jarratt: I want Sheldon to do all things great. If anything has taught us anything. Um, his, uh, Former name of Can't Close Creed. um actually makes them.
Jarratt: kind of Scary good in this format Um, because we know the amount of points that you get Um, winning a race is like a A mushroom and... you know, Super Mario, but You don't necessarily have to to go.
Jarratt: Lights out every weekend. um if you'd like to arch point if you get a couple stage points um and you just finish the race on the lead lap you know top five top tens you can uh point your way into a championship.
Jarratt: More on that later. Speaking of Mr. Creed. Um, and It was announced last week that... ah Sheldon's taken his talents to Sam Hunt for 27. Does the influx of funding he brings with him give some immediate speed to that program.
Jarratt: Art.
Art Freea: Does he have funding? It shows.
Madelyn: I was about to say the same thing. i don't know
Art Freea: Is he a moneybag?
PEYTON: He's up.
Jarratt: Yeah, he got the
Art Freea: God.
PEYTON: He's got the nonprofit.
Jarratt: You got the, um... Who's the sponsor?
Art Freea: The scam for us here.
Jarratt: me
PEYTON: No, it's the nonprofit, the...
Jarratt: The the... The juvenile diabetes one.
PEYTON: Yes.
Jarratt: And then um Road Ranger came with him from... We will see before you get to Haas. Um, They followed him. to Haas. So I figured that they'd follow him to the same hunt as well
Art Freea: list
Jarratt: You might have some, you got some chicks now.
PEYTON: He's not super super paid.
Art Freea: what is it
PEYTON: you know he doesn't have a johnny morris in his backpack but there's a non -profit that seems to like him pretty well
Jarratt: right
PEYTON: And like you're mentioning, road range for that. A lot of truck stops.
Jarratt: He got some ants.
PEYTON: to
Art Freea: All right, I guess. you know God bless them. oh I mean... Yes, I'm sure he'll be fine. At SHR. I mean, I think the bigger story to me is the fact that you told the points leader, hey, kick rocks. ah That's where my mind goes. I don't give a damn about next year. I just think.
Art Freea: This isn't a guy who was running 18th in the standings when this decision was made. He was in playoff contention or you know postseason contention when this was decided, I'm sure.
Art Freea: So... ah I don't know if this is some kind of a money laundering scheme where they're just trying to flip some guy else in to to get some cash or what, but it definitely doesn't seem like a performance. otherwise I mean, what more can you ask?
Art Freea: out of a driver other than multiple wins and leading the points. In October, like what? What else can he do? so ah Yeah, that's my bigger surprise. And I'll also say Sheldon's a better man than me because I'd have started and parked it three weeks in a row before I would have tried after that. like youve you wouldn't have got and ah That would have been some real quiet quitting. I was a driver. ah So, yeah, I'm much more curious to find out, you know, how that team performs next year with a new driver in the seat. ah
Art Freea: It just stayed. It doesn't make sense. Something's going on there. And I look forward to finding out the truth on a podcast. much like this in like the next two years, but Um,
Art Freea: i just don't get it man i'm just kind of befuddled i'm really shocked by this this is one of the you know I'm not going to say Sean's bulletproof, right? like I don't think any of these guys are. But if you had asked me to give you you know five locks to who you'd want to bring back next year, he'd be on that list, especially at this point.
Art Freea: in his career, so. I'm just very shocked by this news.
Jarratt: Was it when they announced who's coming to Haas next year? Who's the driver? Do you all remember?
Art Freea: I don't know.
Jarratt: I'm trying to... I'm trying to look it up now.
Madelyn: have they announced that
PEYTON: They had an announcement.
Jarratt: They announced it.
PEYTON: Yeah, they had an announcement earlier on, but...
Jarratt: Like earlier in the year.
PEYTON: It escapes me.
Jarratt: It was like over the, like... A couple weeks early in the summer, I'm on the Haas. Um, Twitter page trying to go.
Art Freea: Dean Thomas? Thompson.
Jarratt: detown I thought that was him.
Art Freea: So.
Jarratt: so In that announcement, did they announce that it was going to be three cars or everybody just assumed it was going to be three cars at the time?
Art Freea: it's ah the The nice graphic I'm seeing in the Google image search says that it was going to be a three -team. expansion.
Jarratt: Okay. So if they're expanding to a third team and there's no more Sam Mayer, there's no more Sheldon Creed. Then who's the other two? Hmm.
Art Freea: Sam Mayer, not a slouch either. like These are guys that are competing for multiple wins.
Jarratt: Yeah, so I'm here going back to to get that JRM money. taken away from Rush, but we'll talk about that later. um Madeline, what are your thoughts about Sheldon going to Sam Hunt?
Madelyn: I mean, i I think he'll do just fine at Sam Hunt. I don't have any necessarily. concerns about his season next season as much as i'm interested to see like art said How Haas does next season.
Madelyn: um I don't. I don't think it had anything to do with his performance why he's leaving. And I think it has a lot more to do with the funding, which is why I'm not 100 % sure he's bringing some major influx of funding.
Madelyn: Tuh. Sam Hunt with him next year. That's just my own little pet theory. that funding is the bigger. if issue here than it is talent.
Madelyn: Because i don't I don't think you need talent to... Keep a race seat. at Haas factory team. but I'm sure he'll be fine. Haas I don't know about them.
Jarratt: It was uh, it came out that this is apparently the first uh ride that sheldon said where he gets a A salary for his talent? and i was like brother what have you been doing the past six years like what's going on
PEYTON: Yeah.
Art Freea: That's crazy, brother. How you paying for them bills?
Jarratt: JJ already cut you no checks, bro. He was over there. What's going on? Oh gosh. um Peyton.
Art Freea: what's the what's the what's the thing called sorry What's the thing called where like your employer pays for your housing and you live there and like all your money goes to them?
PEYTON: Share cropping.
Art Freea: What's it called? What in the host's shit?
Jarratt: Yo.
PEYTON: indentured servitude
Jarratt: Yo. Yo.
Art Freea: Oh. i
Jarratt: Yo.
Art Freea: Oh, now it's going to bother me. ah It's a term.
PEYTON: He's a sharecropper.
Art Freea: It's not.
Jarratt: He's a sharecropper.
Art Freea: Yeah.
Jarratt: style bu
PEYTON: he He brings them to second places and they give them food and safety.
Art Freea: Keep going. well wow
Jarratt: Oh my.
Art Freea: Keep going and come back to me.
Jarratt: Go ahead.
Madelyn: Do you mean like room and board? Like when they cover your room and board?
Jarratt: Like a stipend?
Art Freea: There's like a term for it where it's like, you know, like it's like a mining town and like the the mining company owns the whole city or whatever.
Madelyn: What?
Art Freea: So like all the money gets... like gets funneled back into them.
PEYTON: I mean...
Jarratt: That sounds more gross than sharecropping.
Art Freea: There's a time.
PEYTON: i mean I know exactly what you're talking about, but I don't know if there's a special term. I mean, except for, like...
Art Freea: There is. i agree
PEYTON: Except it's like a company town. Or like some of them even have their own currency.
Art Freea: Maybe it's a company. I guess it's a company town. Yeah, sure.
PEYTON: Yeah.
Art Freea: That's probably. I also was going to say, is he? Is he at the company town?
PEYTON: They've got company script. Yeah.
Art Freea: Like, how is he affording to live?
PEYTON: so
Art Freea: Like, how are you paying your bills if you're not making any money?
PEYTON: It's such a weird thing. So I've sort of had to piece all of this together and there are little tidbits that came out over the course of the week. And like Jarrett mentioned. this is the first time that he has actually collected a check i believe a couple years ago he may have actually famously said like i'm not collecting any money for this i'm essentially racing for free and then he gets whatever prize money he gets a portion of that And then also he may get a cut of what he brings in from the sponsors. But in terms of like Joe Gibbs ever cutting him a check.
PEYTON: That. That didn't happen, which apparently... Eww. from what my reading is is. That's not unusual in IndyCar either. A lot of times those guys and gals will collect. what their sponsor brings in and the teams will pay them nothing.
PEYTON: So. When he says he's not collecting the check, it doesn't mean that he is living in a hostel. You know, everywhere here he goes and he's taking just what's in his backpack. and Packing up a spindle.
PEYTON: and just going from town to town you know he's doing okay but Yeah, so... From what I've seen together from looking at articles from Matt Weaver as well as Bob Pachris, it seems like there are a number of factors. He seems to want to work his way back towards Toyota and I think potentially Joe Gibbs. And so we felt like this was a...
PEYTON: way to do so.
PEYTON: I don't still don't get it. I understand that he is in a weird spot in his career. because he's not exactly a spring chicken. I believe he's, what, 29 years old. And he's not had much by the way of.
PEYTON: Cup. prospects. So you've got to start figuring out, hey. Where do I want to go from here? What moves I want to start making? Is Haas where I'm going to be? Cause that's, I guess the one thing, I don't know what the Haas pipeline really looks like.
PEYTON: and how much money that he has to bring and how all that's going to work. but It's going to be a step down in performance. There's nothing that I've seen from Sam Hunt racing. that says that he'll be all continuous string of performances.
PEYTON: Can he help elevate them? Sure, but are we talking about... bringing a 17th to 15th place car up to 12th or 10th. Yeah, it could likely happen.
PEYTON: But it will be interesting whether he is. working three steps ahead, or this is something to shore up a present need. He seems to be stating that. Yeah, this wasn't necessarily his first choice, but it may get him to where he wants to be.
PEYTON: For Sam Hunt Racing, this is a... Huge get. This is a guy who's in contention for a championship. And if they can get the right resources and. I'll say tell you this. Man's brought enough teams.
PEYTON: that he knows the inner workings. like ah you know When he goes to Sam Hunt and they say, like, hey, what are you doing? He's like, well, what team do I know about? I can tell you about... you know Dale's team. I can tell you about Joe's team. I can tell you about Gene's team. He comes there with a lot of knowledge.
PEYTON: that he can hopefully use to help build them. So. But I am. I don't know what I'm going to do with my t -shirt situation. Hopefully I'm just going to buy a Sheldon Creed championship t -shirt and I'm just going to ride off into the sunset.
PEYTON: Or hopefully Haas runs a bunch of 00 stuff cheap and I'll stock up on that. because
Art Freea: I was going to say, yeah, that clearance rack about to have your name all over it.
PEYTON: Yeah.
Jarratt: We can just make.
PEYTON: Yeah, because that same hunt stuff is going to be very expensive.
Jarratt: We can just release the Need for Creed shirts, brother.
PEYTON: They got bills to pay.
Art Freea: Listen, I...
Jarratt: You can just do the need for greed.
Art Freea: I'm...
PEYTON: There you go. I'm about to make my own.
Art Freea: I stocked up on Bubba Walla's 43 merch. when he left. I got about four or five shirts. There was a good while that was a steady diet of my rotation, so there's no shame.
PEYTON: Oh.
Art Freea: in the clearance rack.
PEYTON: It just means you're a diehard.
Jarratt: I agree.
PEYTON: It means you've been following him a long time.
Art Freea: Right.
PEYTON: That's all that is.
Art Freea: youre Right. Yeah, absolutely.
Jarratt: um I think it's good for him to get back in. ah Toyota. His time at JGR was not spent well. There was a lot of. ah miscreants and malfeasance uh you know preventing him to be successful over there So hopefully.
Jarratt: with him back in the Toyota pipeline. Maybe we'll see him in a Toyota Cup car one day. Um, you know Maybe he and Denny can have a conversation about bringing the... ah the 67 to daytona who knows the possibilities are endless but uh i'm I'm excited for him just because he gets to embark on a new endeavor um and staying in the sport, which a lot of drivers can't say.
Jarratt: <unk> right about now. um Speaking of. drivers and not having a Uh. Ride. for next year. Brad Kozlowski announced that he's not going to be in the six next season.
Jarratt: um There was a disagreement between the front office of... RFK. and Brad Kay about what his next five years look like.
Jarratt: ah The front. Office wanted Brad to become a competition director after this year. And Brad was like. To hell with that. I'm trying to drive for another five. What's good? Um, So they are obviously had a war of words and he was like, you know what?
Jarratt: i'm out Um, It has been rumored. ah that he's also looking to dilute his ownership in Roush Fenway and taking this ball and going to play elsewhere.
Jarratt: next year. Was this a surprise? Were we not expecting this? Do you think that they're going to reach their downfall over there at Roush Yates?
Jarratt: Finway Payton.
PEYTON: This was... One of the most surprising things... Two. coming out of the week actually this is a weird week for Silly season. Casey Cain Friday.
PEYTON: No one saw that coming. No one saw this coming. We knew that there were some question marks about, hey, what is that team doing next year with not having a charter? and really, really wanting to have three cars.
PEYTON: And have me. From what we've seen from 2311, that is not an easy way to go about it, is running a car in an open format. because You just miss out on a lot of...
PEYTON: I guess essentially the handout money they give out to all of the charter teams. It is interesting that it seems like one of the core disputes Or one of the key loggerheads that they were encountering was, like you were saying.
PEYTON: How do we transition, Brad? out of a race seat. We only want a few more years of him in the seat so he can then become more management. and I understand I think a lot of these drivers realize that when Dale senior was.
PEYTON: You know, in his final year, he was in his 50s and he still there's a good chance coming off that 2000 season. He could have cracked off a... A solid. Two to three win season in 2001. I mean, he was running up front to the very end.
PEYTON: And I think a lot of drivers... See that. Hey. 51 you look at mark martin racing in your 50s so i don't think a lot of these drivers really think that they or Avgas tank.
PEYTON: he has been the slowest of the RFK cars. I would say easily this year and then previous years. But it still seems odd to go and push him out, especially when he does have an ownership stake in the team.
PEYTON: So. The difficult thing for him is is Where do you go? There's two drivers right now looking for seats who conceivably want one.
PEYTON: Uh, You've got. What, John Hunter? Nemechek and Brad Keselowski. I'll tell you. Braden theory is the more attractive option there. But once again,
PEYTON: What seat? there There really isn't any. that we can really account to. one I don't know why Michael. McDowell is still doing here. But hey. He's apparently been...
PEYTON: His seat's been cleaned by himself, so.
Art Freea: I'm doing here.
PEYTON: i mean What is he doing? here Like, dude does nothing.
Art Freea: That's so funny.
PEYTON: So...
Art Freea: it
PEYTON: And I think the other interesting aspect is. If he's going to go and close out his shares, go ahead and take. i want to go and you know get back my investment how they go about doing that? Does he get whatever value is gained over the five years or how long has been uh part of this team i think that would be the most interesting aspect for me is if it was ever made public, how much money would he get back in his you know from the years that he was on the team?
PEYTON: and was part owner. How did that pay out? but Yeah, big surprise. I think it would be a shame if he's not on the cup. grid next year but i think he's going to be good enough and he's got enough backing or at least enough money contacts is you don't operate in a role like him and don't develop some contacts.
PEYTON: that he can hopefully parlay to another team. He'll be back in the Cup Series. And hopefully it will be a full. time season I don't know why but As I get older, I like to see drivers who are roughly my age still in the sport, so I don't feel as ancient.
Jarratt: Still out here doing it at your big age.
PEYTON: Exactly.
Art Freea: My graph. Hi, Grandpa.
PEYTON: I was going to say, I see Madden and I was like, wait. People get that old? i like
Madelyn: no I'm just doing the math. I don't know how old Brad Keselowski is.
PEYTON: He's old enough.
Madelyn: and I don't know how old you are.
Art Freea: All right. I thought you were going to say, I don't know how Peyton is.
Madelyn: I don't know what we're painting it. either.
Jarratt: Madam, what are your thoughts? Is this a W move by Mr. Kowalski?
Madelyn: i kind of hate when It's one thing to... he's gonna make me sound mean and like i'm think he's like way older than he is
Art Freea: Uh oh.
Madelyn: I think it's one thing to kind of be the like slowest driver on the team that you own. and go out that way when you're like the team owner and like, oh, well, he owns the team. He's having fun, whatever.
Madelyn: to... probably go to a not great seat and just kind of run back of the pack. for like one to two more years is kind of a sad end of a career to me. I don't like scene people go out and in their careers like that.
Madelyn: I mean, there's only much of a choice. because he's either ending his career by getting kicked out of his team and being asked to relinquish some ownership. Or he's going out. in a back of the pack. car.
Madelyn: not win He's not going to win a race again. that I think. a must. He ends up. pulling off like a miracle. But it's just kind of a bummer. It was surprising news. I was genuinely shocked when I opened Twitter and saw that at work and I didn't work for like an hour.
Madelyn: Um... I don't know. It's just like, it's fun and like, ooh. exciting and then you kind of think more about it and you're like wow He's like a driver who's been driving like the entire time I've been like.
Madelyn: a human basically and he's just kind of
Madelyn: Go out. in like a back of the pack team fighting Connor Zilich for 30 minutes.
Art Freea: oh
Jarratt: The dog house. Hello?
Madelyn: I do think Chase Elliott's reaction when they asked him about it was probably the funniest thing. that happened. all week in NASCAR. when When they asked him and he said, does he not own the team?
Madelyn: was very funny and I know people got really upset about it because they get upset about everything on Twitter now. but I thought that was funny very personally. um Apparently you can get fired from a teen you own. That's what we learned this week.
Jarratt: Diabolical. All right. alright
Art Freea: Yeah, I think that's my first question. is You know, what was your percentage stake that they can just force you out? Right. That's my question, because if I'm putting all this money in. And I got him.
Art Freea: My letter. on the wall You ain't buying me. yeah You ain't forcing me out of shit. Bye guys. I'm not gonna put myself in a position to allow. this to happen, first of all.
Art Freea: ah Yeah, it's definitely a surprise. um I guess they said i they don't they don't need his cash. um I think he'll find a way to get into... To Madeline's point, like a lower tier. I mean, I could see, like...
Art Freea: Brad could go to the 51 and be like, Hey yo, give me this. for a couple years. i'm like I think they get that up. um the The bigger question is to me, as we kind of alluded to here, is like who fills in the seat, right? It is October. um All the drivers worth a shit are under contract for the most part. so Or have at least been in discussions ah for contracts. so I mean, it's not going to be a top tier guy. And to be honest, you know, outside of Priest pulling off a miracle at Daytona.
Art Freea: the The RFK cars have not been good all year and really weren't. amazing last year, so... it's not ah It's not an A -plus ride. I mean, I get like if you're a driver and you want to get in the Cup Series, like you know you can't really afford to be choosy. but like You know, if i'm and I'm Sheldon Creed, for example, and would I be chomping at the bit to go be in the six?
Art Freea: I mean, maybe. i I don't know. I feel like it's not ah an easy decision. so Yeah, I'm just very curious. This is another one, kind of like the last topic, where I feel like there's a lot more to this story that's out there. And I would love to have been a fly on the wall for some of these meetings because...
Art Freea: It had to have been some... heated, contentious. conversations for them to just say, yeah, yeah, just get out of here. Just get out of here. I don't care that you're you're paying for a third of this building. like well you're just You're just gone. So.
Art Freea: um Yeah, it's a surprise. um I love the the Dodge rumors that existed for like 20 minutes on Friday where they're like, oh, he's going to go back to Dodge. He's going to win a truck championship for Dodge.
Art Freea: And then they're like, yeah, no, we're not doing that. we're not going to do that. So that to me would be at a much more exciting ah angle. to see him go back to the truck saves and try to to win all three.
Art Freea: um I personally feel like that would be a much more rewarding. end of the career, even if he goes for two years or so at that. but You know, driving on Sundays, it's and ah it's a drug, right? It's an addiction. and These guys will do anything. They'll they'll be in a back market if it means they suit up. you know, Sunday's afternoon. so um Yeah, just big and another shocker, right? Silly season continues.
Art Freea: to be silly, even though we've not even reached. the offseason yet.
Jarratt: You know, while it would be... Very cool and awesome for him to go run. you know, what. truck Amen. be i don't know if he's the first driver would be one of the drivers to have a national National championship.
Jarratt: That's hilarious. A championship. And all three serious.
Art Freea: Oof.
Jarratt: would Kind of like him to take his talents to colleague. I don't know if if Todd Dillon's coming back or if anybody's over there messing with that car, but. um If anybody that has the knowledge of running a business, Brad had his truck team. Brad has been, you know, helping the RFK program get a little better.
Jarratt: But if he's got the money and the interest from Dodge to like. Push the timeline a little faster for them to come back to cup Let's do it. Because he's the last champion for...
Jarratt: for Dodge when they left the sport, and I think it would be kind of fitting for him to be the first one. to bring him back into the sport. um Personally, that's what I want. um It's kind of crazy that.
Jarratt: uh you know the point everybody made like How do you not have enough stake in the company to not? Get your name taken off the door of your office. It's kind of crazy. ah But at the same time.
Jarratt: RFK and years past. They were a highly competitive team. um It seems like that they're the forgotten afterthought over there at Ford. Um, And maybe. brad's asks of um improvement were just too big where like you know what You can just leave. We're fine being mid -pack or...
Jarratt: Less than so. um Hopefully he lands on his feet somewhere. that whether I don't care really where. um If it's an O 'Reilly's or... or the FedEx. c series or up and cup.
Jarratt: um But to Peyton's point, it is kind of cool to see the the old guys keep doing it for the young kids. um I wouldn't like to to see him improve from the doghouse, though. um driving for a Driving back there with the... With Noah Gregson's gotta be a...
Jarratt: A really big ask every Sunday. I think that's what ticked him off. He's tired of seeing Noah. I'd be tired of seeing Noah.
Art Freea: As with all of us. Let's be clear.
Jarratt: There's some ah some other. rumours that have come out surrounding this announcement, but we're not going to speak on those. we'll ah As they gain more teeth, we'll add our two cents in it. But we move.
Jarratt: Um... Question four. The ending of the cup race felt like the state farm commercial where you got to be quicker than that. A 75 -point debut from Briscoe narrows the gap to Larson as Larson extends his lead over Denny Hamlin. Should the Denny Bros be concerned?
Jarratt: Madeline. I see that face, what's that mean?
Madelyn: I also... decided sometime this week that Denny is probably not winning the championship. Um. I did say it was going to be another Toyota. probably still.
Madelyn: Bye now. I don't know what's going on with Denny Hamlin, what his problem is. I. kind of hope the Denny Bros. should be concerned because I always want to see the Denny Bros lose because they are just a lot.
Madelyn: I think it is going to end up being the Larson Championship. which I've come to terms with and I've accepted. as what we're going to have to deal with again this year. I just don't, I don't see Denny.
Madelyn: becoming consistent enough again that he like
Madelyn: At least that he wins by the margin that he was like. he could have won by. like I don't know what his problem is. this i i don't know it I don't know what happened to Denny other than I...
Madelyn: feel like he just likes chokes when he gets close to a championship. But they should probably be concerned and I hope they are all mentally prepared. And I hope we are all mentally prepared for how they react.
Jarratt: I like those words Peyton. This is DEF CON 5.
PEYTON: Oh yeah. Buddy. body body body body body body It's over. It's never been.
Jarratt: but
PEYTON: It's... So...
Art Freea: so
PEYTON: So damn over I mean, he come on. and Because he led more than like 50 laps in the playoffs. Like, dude. You gotta be that good. You got to win races. You can't.
PEYTON: You can't sit here and Ryan Newman it. You can't just get these elimination bumps. and just keep rolling through. Man. It's crazy because here's the thing.
PEYTON: Two weeks ago. I was very much in the camp of... He's okay. Performance wise, he has not been bad. And then you see sort of how it's unfolded in the following weeks. And then it makes you look back and say like, okay, actually nevermind. He actually might've been not so good. Cause you think about.
PEYTON: Darlington. And... the way he ran that race got spun off the nose of McDowell. Once again, why? Why is he there?
PEYTON: I'm not saying why. is Denny. putting says I mean, why is McDowell there? But anywho. And you it starts to get okay actually this hasn't been great he's had some second places, the performance has not been awful but it's not been a championship caliber.
PEYTON: And if it was just a bunch of random dudes just in and out every week, then he could have remained. a bit higher up, but right now. Larson is...
PEYTON: Everyone keeps pointing like... Welcome back, Jimmy Johnson, because that's the way they are running right now. Like the dude, they they had the five car. they had a pit crew member so his he was Shoulder.
PEYTON: Yeah, it was shoulder deep in the wheel well, fixing something on that car in the first stage. He was a lap down. that five cars have been done and they managed to get that thing racing for the win by the end of it.
PEYTON: you You can't stop that. and then They've just left the tracks that everyone thought that Chevy was on. I've been saying the entire playoffs that, well, the biggest issue that Kyle Larson is going to have and the biggest issue that. I have the badge on the front of the car. That's done! They figured it out. They're back. Welcome back, Hendrick.
PEYTON: Yeah, this is Larson's same ship to lose. Denny Hamlin can get back into it, but he's going to have to figure out what the hell he was doing. 10 weeks ago where he was dominating races, but otherwise, yeah. the denny bros i guess they'll just kind of go back to sending memes to each other making t -shirts and watching football teams they didn't care about two years ago.
Art Freea: oh Talk about it.
Jarratt: Alright.
Art Freea: Colleges you ain't even go to. You ain't even grow up in the same state. Talk about it, Peyton. Oh, man, you know. Sometimes it pays to be a hater.
Art Freea: I'm just gonna start off by saying, sometimes it pays to be a hater. And I fully admit that ever since Kansas 2 of last year, I have been a Denny hater. Okay.
Art Freea: i Don't care about Him sponsoring my favorite team or paying for my favorite team, I don't care about none of that on Sunday. So... As someone who came on here three weeks ago and said that it was going to be the fives title to lose, I feel very validated and grateful that everyone has come to the right side of history.
Art Freea: um I say this with no joy in my heart because even though... This is what seems to be inevitable. It is not the outcome I personally want. Bye. This man is averaging a 2 .2 finish.
Art Freea: 2 .2 average finish. In the playoffs, like, you're not going to beat that. And Danny, you know when I knew that he was cooked? It wasn't even before Sunday. Mr. The law of averages. It's the law of averages.
Art Freea: James! The law of averages says that you are losing 19 points a week to the five since the playoffs started.
Jarratt: oh
Art Freea: That's not gonna cut it bad You done lost 95 points to this man.
Jarratt: um
Art Freea: he's caught past and left you behind. So... Listen, and I keep saying he looks sick every time he get out the car, but that's neither here nor there.
Art Freea: The point is, it's rap, fam. It's rap city. it's It's Christmas. under the tree with a bow on it. It ain't no shot, no shot, no. and the The cruel irony that now the one thing Denny needs to say to him is the one thing he's hated, which is.
Art Freea: A points reset. The one thing that he needs that he has kept him... A winner -take -all final race is the one thing that could get him his elusive title. And I personally hope we don't get it. I hope it ain't close.
Art Freea: I'll be 75 points out going into Homestead personally. I don't want you to have hope. personally. So. Um... Yeah, it's a wrap, man. You stepped on your, you know what? Spinning out at the end of the stage.
Art Freea: fucking up the splitter. and You know, it's it's rap, yeah. Yeah, the five car is... Super impressive. Um, you know to to peyton's point right like they were bad they were really bad um And just we're dropping like a rock all of stage one. We're a lap too. Also, shout out Denny's crew for, Denny and the crew for not.
Art Freea: trapping. Kyle Larson a lap down early in the race. Do you think they regret that decision this morning in the competition meeting? Do you think that was a... That was a mistake. You know, maybe they'll talk about that. um So yeah, I mean...
Art Freea: This is, I'm eating great over here. Do you use another holiday? It's Thanksgiving right now. I'm eating amazingly. The slander is so delicious. And I hope all the Denny bros are sad. I hope old boy does his podcast. Got some more tweets queued up since he loved to tweet about drivers wrecking. I ain't seen nothing about Denny wrecking.
Art Freea: I'm very happy for it. And hey, you know what? Karma, man. Karma, that's what you get. That's what you get. You wreck your own car, that's what you get. Dale Sr. would never. I'm going to just put it there. DLC would never have wrecked out.
Art Freea: Steve Park. or or Or Mikey for a win. He wouldn't have done that. so ah That's karma. Shouldn't have done it.
Jarratt: um It's funny you mentioned that about his... ah get on his show because as of Uh, 10 Oh two. Eastern. Daylight time.
Jarratt: There's still an episode of his show. uh loaded to the internet yet so maybe he's uh
Art Freea: ah
Jarratt: Soaking. We're feeling sorrowful.
Art Freea: Where you at, brother? Come on out. You know the ah the Ed and Eddie gif where he's banging on the door with a shovel? Where you at? Come on out. out yeah It's all fun when you're out in front. Come on out. i want to Where's my takes, Denny?
Art Freea: Where my takes at? I'm waiting. No. Where are you? Mm -mm. See that's a nasty business right there.
Jarratt: It's the...
Jarratt: Carl brought up a good point when he was here last week saying if Larson goes on to win ah this year, it adds some legitimacy to his. his championship last year.
Jarratt: Um, And I, in that moment, I was like. man hell no but then i remembered Larson essentially Did. This year's format last year, he was the most consistent.
Jarratt: And he won just because he was most consented. Like, yeah, Dennis Creech made a stupid ass call. But. Larson wouldn't have had an opportunity to do what he did if he didn't have the non -racist leading up to that moment to win his championship. so Um,
Jarratt: You know? He's fucked. I can say that. He's he's fucked. Um,
Art Freea: Yeah.
Jarratt: I don't. I just don't see the we're 50 % through and I haven't seen one shining moment through these first five races that he's even in it to win it. um He was. Looked like he was about to cry post -race.
Art Freea: o
Jarratt: um you know he said he had to capitalize and maximize or some some of the the adjectives he described his day with but um
Art Freea: You should have.
Jarratt: You have to. to step on next and and just leave them there like this is ah a dog -eat -dog world like you're fighting 15 other drivers for a chance of a championship And at this point, the way that Denny's acting, he might get passed by Daniel Suarez at the points.
Jarratt: Like, if if you don't get your act together.
Art Freea: Come on.
Jarratt: um You know, the. You're going to... going to continue to fall. I can't talk. um So it's... ah I think, ah you know, it's Larson's to lose, like the sentimental, like everything that Denny's been through the last two years.
Jarratt: um Would it be nice for him to get one? Sure. Is he the hometown kid from um Richmond? And it'd be cool for. Richmond driver to get a championship. Absolutely.
Jarratt: But you got to show up to play. and he hasn't showed up to nothing beside his podcast the last four weeks so Um, Maybe he doesn't need it. Maybe he is going to be. The Next Gen Mark Martin.
Jarratt: Maybe that's what it deserves.
Art Freea: I mean, out of these last five races, you tell me where he's waking up 40 points.
Jarratt: I don't see no way he can make enough points.
PEYTON: I mean...
Art Freea: Charlotte, Phoenix, Daga.
PEYTON: Big day at Martinsville.
Art Freea: so Charlotte Phoenix.
Jarratt: Nasty work. Hmm.
Art Freea: You better hope, you better hope. Larson. DNF stage one at Dega. That's really your only shot. You better win. That's really your only shot.
Jarratt: Right.
PEYTON: I hope he has a super -duper day at Martinsville.
Jarratt: He has to win.
PEYTON: like that's And it might be too late by that point.
Art Freea: Yeah. Max points, yeah. And then, oh, by the way, you go to Homestead, which is one of Larson's favorite tracks.
PEYTON: yeah
Jarratt: until he hits the water barrels at the entrance of Pitt Road.
Art Freea: So like, okay, cool.
Art Freea: And you watch it with love.
PEYTON: That was pretty good. You pick.
Art Freea: Watch, Larson's going to finish third. and have a full race up on him after Charlotte. You watch for it. I mean... Again, I say this with no joy in my heart. Listen.
Art Freea: yeah i've I've talked on this show about five car flares on Twitter many times. But as as a battle scarred and PTSD victim,
PEYTON: Well... what
Art Freea: a Jeff Gordon fan of the 2000s. I've played these games before. I know how this goes. I've seen this movie. And it doesn't end well for the guy who's been running.
Art Freea: Pretty good most of the year. It runs well for the guy who runs lights out the last 10 races. and The five is that guy right now.
Jarratt: Question five. NASCAR announced further changes to the Speedway package for the upcoming Talladega date with an even shorter splitter.
Jarratt: a Spoiler rather. um And the stage lengths were going to be the same as they were last year to have the fuel savings in stage one and two and force you to go all out in stage three. um Will the next gen finally get the overhaul that we've been asking for?
Jarratt: in the offseason.
Jarratt: Madeline. Is it time to chop cut and rebuild? Gen 7.
Madelyn: is the question is it time or is it going to happen because I think those are too separate. Questions, I mean. would it be great if they were like oh we're gonna completely overhaul the car and it's gonna be perfect and amazing and it's gonna race super cool and great.
Madelyn: I don't. I don't think NASCAR. cares. to do that Up. this exact time i don't think that's what they're focused on I think in a perfect world they do, but I don't think that's happening just because they decided.
Madelyn: to change the package for Talladega. for the fall.
Jarratt: Let me... ah Let me rephrase the question. um After yesterday's... on track performance the last 40 laps. and saying where not one but two drivers could get past the leader.
Jarratt: Is it time to change the car?
Madelyn: Yeah. I don't think anyone is like... I don't think I think if you're arguing that... the cars. doesn't need changing I don't think I necessary. Sarah Lee.
Madelyn: Trust Europe. opinion. that much. So I... Hold. the ability to take that back if I...
Jarratt: yeah
Madelyn: isn'
Art Freea: This is a masterful job of hedging that you're hearing right now, everyone.
Madelyn: i do i do think think I think the car needs changing. It's... the only car I've ever watched. while watching NASCAR but when I go back and I watch old races I'm like wow We used to actually be able to raise each other.
Art Freea: the shape This shit used to slap, didn't it?
Jarratt: This is...
Art Freea: Hey. You're like, damn, I see why this flirt was popular.
Jarratt: You can change lines and keep momentum.
Madelyn: i
Jarratt: It's crazy.
Madelyn: i don't even think it was that bad of a race yesterday I realize I'm in the minority because like I opened Twitter and everybody was like really mad I enjoyed yesterday's race. I think when we do get racing, it's enjoyable. It's just that we aren't getting consistent. like battles it feels like it feels like we're only getting like
Madelyn: I don't know, like sometimes the midfield is exciting, but then it's like.
Madelyn: oh we're watching a battle for 15th right now between like Chase Elliott and like... Like I don't know. who else is in the midfield. Chase Elliott and like Austin Sindrick are battling for 15th that's so exciting I wonder what's happening at the front and it's like they're all the way like laughing cards.
Madelyn: I don't know I think we need a new car. Long story short.
Jarratt: Payton.
PEYTON: Pains me. It really does. Because this is the coolest looking car that NASCAR has ever rolled out. I mean, the thing looks... It looks... Amazing. it Looks like it wasn't built by a couple of dudes in the shed.
PEYTON: it looks serious And I was on board with it. Because it had... It was. Good at mile and a halves. And it was so... Frustrating.
PEYTON: And here's the thing I understand, live by the sword, die by the sword. Bubba was. arrow blocking the heck out of Larson last year at Indy. But Indy is a one lane track. You could have done that. I could have done that in my road car.
PEYTON: And. probably blocked quarter of the field at Indy. This track... theoretically you can run from the wall To the apron and still make speed and here's the problem. We had the juxtaposition of seeing The exp...
PEYTON: My. Gosh, I can't. O 'Reilly series the night before, which I got to say. There's a huge chunk of that O 'Reilly race that was. boring.
Jarratt: Absolutely.
PEYTON: I've I've mastered and honed the new dad talent of. I was asleep. From like the middle of the first stage.
Jarratt: There you go.
PEYTON: until like they actually started fighting for the end of Phenomenal Battle.
Jarratt: Get that nap.
PEYTON: But I only woke up. I woke up. just my wife's gonna return the team and i was like um i'm looking at that So new talent discovered, new talent unlocked is the ability to wake up as soon as that TV remote gets tampered with.
PEYTON: But. That fight. in the O 'Reilly race was fantastic because dudes were finding new lines trying to find grip trying to find speed They weren't able to get away from each other.
PEYTON: And... they kept it competitive versus what we saw yesterday. We're... It didn't matter what line. Chase Briscoe would run because it didn't matter. All he had to do was just run across the nose of Bubba or Larson, and that would kill their run.
PEYTON: And... I think one of the things that... A couple people, you know, amongst us were mentioned. Bubba was really kind because he knows he probably shares a flight with JGR. And if he had shipped ah Briscoe, when he crossed his nose extremely aggressively, he probably would have had a difficult time because if if they do that and then neither of them win.
PEYTON: That's going to be an awkward. Plain ride, I don't know. akin to Kansas last year. But. It's just frustrating and I know the clips that people are showing on Twitter are not accurate because I know Because I've seen some of those races from the previous gen car A lot of those races were boring, but...
PEYTON: We've got to figure it out because that track started out Really, really racy. three years ago. four years ago. And it's now devolved into this, and and that's a shame.
PEYTON: because they spent a lot of time and money engineering this. I appreciate that under the new leadership of NASCAR this year, they've been very... energetic in trying to make changes. And to answer your question, none of this stuff is going to matter at Talladega because I don't think it mattered that much at Daytona. A lot of people seem to tell me they liked it.
PEYTON: but what I want to see and what looked super dramatic and super engaging and super exciting. was stage one Atlanta this summer, where you had dudes. going a lot down in stage one. on pure effing pace at Baby Daytona.
PEYTON: And that is what I want to see. I want to see. big runs. I want to see runs that you cannot stop. I want dude shooting three wide middle. You know, going into turn two, I want.
PEYTON: I want it to look like there's no longer a restrictor plate on it. I want... I don't know. I just want something that may not be able to get achieved. And I don't think it's going to push close enough, but I at least. appreciate them trying to do these things.
PEYTON: Will we get a big overall? I don't know because we got essentially... Two and a half iterations of the... Carve tomorrow. We got a bunch of different iterations of the Gen 6.
PEYTON: I don't know. And by the way, on the Gen 6, each time they changed it, they made it markedly worse. I actually think it sucks. Like they start off with a pretty cool car and they turn it into a 550 horsepower.
PEYTON: Uh... with a billboard hanging off the Breer. trunk lid. So. I don't know whether they can fix it. I hope they do Because...
PEYTON: These drivers deserve to be able to show their talents a bit more than just arrow blocking.
Jarratt: Arthur.
Art Freea: Yeah, you talk about chop. What'd you say? Chop, cut, or build? Is that what you said? It is.
Jarratt: Wasn't that a show on Discovery Channel, Chop Cut Rebuilt?
Art Freea: I don't know.
PEYTON: yeah but Yeah, you had it right. The chop cut rebuild, yeah.
Art Freea: it And yeah, it needs to be burn, bulldoze, and bury. That's what you need to do with this car, man.
Jarratt: work
Art Freea: That thing is...
PEYTON: yeah ah
Art Freea: A two piece of ass, man. Nothing. outside of, you know, major political turmoil and AI in this world, there's nothing I hate more than this next gen car. I'll be honest with you. Like it's up. It is, it is. P3 on things that ruin my day. ah I do think.
Art Freea: It's especially damning when you watch the O 'Reilly race this week because... Yes, Peyton is right that there were good... stretches of that race that were not the most exciting but this race much like a movie rewarded your participation with a banger finish. like Most people don't care about act one, act two. We want a good act three. And that race delivered in spades. Day and Quapel were amazing. Absolutely amazing.
Art Freea: This car does not give you that. It does not. reward, you're you're sitting through. three hours of watching it um It's just clear that they've made...
Art Freea: And they've done an impressive feat of making almost every wrong decision when it comes to building a NASCAR stock car, which is... it's really hard to do like that's a very hard concept to do and they seem to have done it so Yeah, I would love for them to just get rid of this car. As I've been saying, we'll continue to say, just put the O 'Reilly car up there on Sundays with some more horsepower. Like the problem is...
Art Freea: literally rolling up to the track every weekend with you. And the solution is rolling up the day before. Like it's so clear. What do you need to do? um Yeah, man, I hate this car, man. I think...
Art Freea: the The shine of the mile and a half have have faded away. I mean, I think at this point, there's probably, what, five good tracks? on the schedule that we feel confident now. like This race was not great.
Art Freea: Kansas used to be barn burner. We were always in Kansas. Top three on the schedule. Kansas isn't that great, right? like Short tracks suck now. I mean, it's really what, Atlanta and maybe...
Art Freea: a couple places are good but i mean for the most part it's really really hard to find a a good race with this car so I don't know what you do other than just start over. If you start over, it's not going to be as simple as bring up the O 'Reilly car. You're going to take three years to build another car. like It's going to be 2030. It's not going to be anything quick. so I don't know what you do. I don't know what's a realistic solution for them to fix it. um I mean, I
Art Freea: i give you know Like we said here, the current regime points for trying something, trying to fix it. I do think Daytona was a little bit better than the previous years with this car. I appreciate the attempt, but...
Art Freea: If your solution... to tackling this problem. Your strategy to tackling this problem is to keep making these minor tweaks. we're never going to get there because this this does not need a nudge. This needs a two -hand shove over the cliff to to fix it. so Um,
Art Freea: Yeah, i appreciate like I appreciate the attempt, but... i mean this was bad this is just bad man i just i hate it so much because Think about how many years. of prime race car drivers we've had to to lose.
Art Freea: for this card Yeah, like, we should talk about Larson, right? 2 .2 finish. Imagine getting to see him. And again, I'm not a Larson fan by any stretch, but I'm not going to act like he ain't talented as hell. Imagine getting to watch him wield, you know. the O 'Reilly car for the last five years, every week. Imagine Danny Bell. I mean...
Art Freea: So many guys are so talented. And yes, the best drivers are still going to find ways to win. like i'm you know i'm not gonna act like the the points be completely different but just Being able to watch someone...
Art Freea: as an athlete, execute in their field. at the height of their ability. That is what you want to see. I mean, it's like... I don't know. This feels like watching, you know, a football team and like, they can only run the ball. Like they, they can't throw, oh they can't do screens. They can't throw it deep. All we can do is run the ball.
Art Freea: right And it's the same place, the same strategy, right the same arrow blocking with the mirror and the spotter. and You know, I wish Danny, I don't see that. I wish Bubba just... um pushed his ass right up into the wall honestly that's the only thing he could have done to win And he had the faster car, right? But you have no offense. You have absolutely no offense with this car. so I don't know how you fix it, but I really wish they would.
Art Freea: But... i mean the end the end of the and I know I've said this on here like the last two years, but like the end of that race is one of those where I was like... do I really want to do this for 38 more weeks next year? like I don't know if I want to do this for 38 weeks.
Art Freea: weeks next year. It's going to be the exact same thing. like i I would definitely want to see you know the The Dagas, The Atlantas, um you know Darlington, like those those tracks that put on a good performance. but Um...
Art Freea: I mean, if this is your average... like I was not entertained. and If you're a fan sitting out in the sun for three hours or four hours or whatever it is out there, it was hot out there. It was well over 100.
Art Freea: I don't know if you want to come back next year after seeing that performance, unless you're a diehard. Yeah, i I hate it. I hate it. and ah I just like better. I just want better for the sport. And until they fix the car, nothing else is going to matter, right? Nothing else is going to change.
Jarratt: Yeah, I am. Beyond the mind. my point in mind. stand on the next gen. It's got too much mechanical grip. You got to rip out the underbody. you gotta rip off the splitters you gotta to find something where it's not As. Arrow dependent as it is.
Jarratt: Um, I mean, you saw what Denny's seemingly harmless spin. did to his race yesterday. He finished 17th. All he did was get loose coming out of the corner.
Jarratt: It didn't even look like he did anything.
Art Freea: oh
Jarratt: And the yeah the whole underbody era was... ah It was all messed up, so it ruined the car. so Um, um I'm sure that they... I know Denny has been a huge proponent of the super speedway package changing. I think if NASCAR goes back and watches the last 10 laps of that race.
Jarratt: And. They see how it ended. I think that gives. you know motivation to try something Next year, I hope so at least. The competition director. Y 'all got it. Steve.
Jarratt: Y 'all gotta sit down, man. Y 'all gotta... They're gonna figure it out. People want to watch race cars do race car stuff. If I want to watch Follow the Leader. I go watch Thomas the Tank Engine. Personally.
Jarratt: Eh... And with that...
Art Freea: Thomas the Tank Engine.
Jarratt: It's time for Lights Too Bright. Um... Peyton. There was an F1 race. There was some NASCAR races. Who's your lights too bright?
Art Freea: Come on man, just once. Just for once be decent.
PEYTON: It's so tough because the one the one overseas is so appealing. ah But here's the thing.
Art Freea: Take a day off.
PEYTON: Quiet, quiet. were you a Just going to block you. out so The real lights too bright is what the heck was race control doing in. the Sunday cup race and NASCAR.
PEYTON: where a 3 ,400 -pound car spinning wildly across the track. the drag The flag people cannot find that yellow flag. But a... three inch block of whatever sits on the entry to pit road.
PEYTON: Trout, trout. Put the flag up, put it out. They hammer that thing so quickly, you would not believe. I am fine with letting them race it out. but You can't, you can't just... Do a no call or a no flag.
PEYTON: For a car spinning clean across the track. And then back it up. by throwing it out so quickly. on a piece of debris that took them a coal commercial break to finally track down and see.
PEYTON: lights too bright. Listen, I get it naturally trying to be that rough. Hey, we're gonna let them race it out. Stick to it.
PEYTON: And understand, hey, debris can be dangerous. I mean, obviously, if it's serious, then throw it. but Don't just choose to just... Yeah. Come on, get get the consistency going.
PEYTON: Get together. Bad timing. I know you want to be big and bad. And it just happens that a piece of metal was stuck on the track, and now you have to sit there and walk it back and say, yeah, we figured out how to you throw a caution flag. so I'll leave the ah the obvious obvious formula one.
PEYTON: Lights too bright to someone else this time.
Jarratt: It's too bright.
Madelyn: i don't really have a super standout lights too bright uh this week to be honest because I was kind of I was paying attention but I don't think there was like anybody like ah absurdly like Lights too bright. for me.
Madelyn: Other than, not for this to this just this week. My life's too bright is going to Tyler Reddick and his team because cap into that. I know that they didn't have a bad finish this week, but I was just kind of sitting here and I was like, wow.
Madelyn: I thought he was going to like. win it all. And now we're just like.
Madelyn: finishing. Third. which is great. But like... How far back is he in the standings now?
Jarratt: I think he's in sixth.
Madelyn: Worse than the Denny Bros. What happened to Tyler Redding?
Art Freea: oh
Madelyn: That's my Lights Too Bright. Lights Too Bright is Tyler Reddick. Who is seven?
Art Freea: Seven.
Madelyn: 106 points back. Hmm?
Jarratt: How the mighty have fallen.
Madelyn: Who started the season with what? like Five wins. And now he's seventh. So.
PEYTON: Didn't he describe his...
Madelyn: That's my life.
PEYTON: Today is whoop -de -doo. That wouldn't, yeah.
Art Freea: He did.
Jarratt: Whoop -dee -doo.
Madelyn: i also Don't know how I feel about him getting credited as the third place finish when he Finish. In. pit road after wrecking.
Madelyn: But that's just.
PEYTON: That's an unsafe entry, you gotta, you gotta...
Madelyn: a personal stance.
PEYTON: Panelize that.
Madelyn: I don't think he should have finished third, but that's just... That's just my opinion.
Art Freea: You can't we can't punish him because the greatest driver in the world refuses to finish.
Jarratt: aye
Art Freea: A race with a throwback scheme in one piece. That's not his fault.
Madelyn: Yeah, but... Just because it's not your fault doesn't mean it didn't happen.
Jarratt: He's five for five, I think.
Art Freea: I think you're you're blaming the wrong person. That's all I'm saying. this is misplaced.
Madelyn: But yeah, poor Tyler Reddick gets my lights too bright. I hope he's doing... fine and he has a good week maybe next week i don't know
Jarratt: Poor Tyler. Good.
Art Freea: You know, it's kind of crazy, as you said, that I... I have my notes app for every episode and I... It just happened to be open on the first Vegas race. And it says...
Art Freea: What happened to the 45 question mark? 23 -11, back to 1 -2 in the points. You want to talk about how the mighty have fallen?
PEYTON: ah
Art Freea: See that? There were multiple weeks where they were running the show. Isn't it? I also have here a good day for the 23, but they never had a race winning stage, but got stage points held on for nine.
Jarratt: I will.
Art Freea: and time is a flat circle because That is almost exactly what happened to them this time.
PEYTON: Hey, this time he had race winning speed, but he just couldn't.
Art Freea: No, I said, yeah.
PEYTON: Yeah, you couldn't defy the law of physics.
Art Freea: Yes, I'm sorry. Unfortunately, Bubba needs to spend his offseason learning to become an airbender. courtesy of the Avatar, and then he'll be able to... navigate around a car in front of him.
Art Freea: Uh... I guess it's my turn. um So yeah, this was a kind of a hard one. and When nobody really fucks up on the weekend, I like to try to find... out of the way.
Art Freea: Lights Too Bright, that are still related to NASCAR, Peyton.
PEYTON: Oh, okay.
Art Freea: that out.
PEYTON: That's the stipulation.
Art Freea: So... Yeah, yeah. Some of us still know the assignment. um And so this is someone who I actually really like and I respect their work. So I'm not going to be too harsh on them.
Art Freea: But it is Mr. Matt Weaver. Long time motorsports reporter.
Jarratt: um ah
Art Freea: Great reporter, actually. to i No sarcasm there.
Jarratt: oh
Art Freea: Great reporter, top tier. Bob -level reporter. I like your your word. Matt, but you had the audacity. You had the gall. You had the... The shamelessness.
Art Freea: To say it at the end of. Sunday's cup race felt very... Gordon Johnson, 2011, Atlanta. One of the greatest finishes. in NASCAR history. And I know that you felt bad because the tweet that I quoted on you telling you were wrong, you later deleted it, which I just looked up and found. So I thought know you would know the steak was wrong.
Art Freea: Because you've deleted the tweet. So I went back to find it because I wanted to quote him directly and he's deleted the tweet. And I like that. Like I said, I'm not going to give you too hard, but. the audacity.
Art Freea: We could not be further. Peyton, can I can attest, we were watching back then. and I think, Joe, you were watching back then too, right? like You weren't on a break.
Jarratt: As I was.
Art Freea: but like
Jarratt: No.
Art Freea: This could not be further. from that. Bye. It is hard. For folks that who may may have not seen, just go back and watch. It's on YouTube. It's on Classics. It's on all the shit. This race is as far from that as you could possibly get and still be a NASCAR. Cub Series race.
Art Freea: And... I just think. even if you were blind, you could listen to the cars and tell that they're not the same. So even even you know a lack of vision couldn't cover you. like Life's too bright, man. You can't. Don't don't disrespect. the four -time champion's 85th career win. by comparing to this slop. This race was slop. The finish was slop.
PEYTON: for matt weaver For Matt Weaver, that was, like, the biggest, like, when someone gets hit with, this you?
Art Freea: And I hate it.
PEYTON: Or that you.
Jarratt: Oh, man.
Art Freea: Yeah.
PEYTON: And then all like. Yeah. That's what got, that's what happened to him in a professional standpoint. So he wouldn't said something.
Art Freea: Yeah.
PEYTON: And then someone said this, you. And he had just.
Art Freea: yeah
PEYTON: Shuffle off. And even and then he, like, it was. backup post he's like yeah i guess you got me but it felt and he's like yeah listen listen buddy
Art Freea: Listen, we
PEYTON: We all...
Art Freea: we all get bad takes.
PEYTON: Yeah.
Art Freea: I'm not going to act like I'm above it. So like, I'm not going to, cause he is a legit really good. journalist and so i'm not going to be too harsh on him he's not a he's not a clickbait you know bullshit artist but
PEYTON: We get it.
Art Freea: Ooh, buddy, when you miss, you miss hard. Like, you don't miss often, but you you miss all the way. Not even close. The light's too bright.
Jarratt: ah My light's too bright goes... to the scheduling committee. Once again, we are met with a weekend where the lower series gets night races and the The creme de la creme, your A1.
Jarratt: talent at least the car is a piece of shit but um you know the greatest show on the circus doesn't get a night race Um, I feel like. We're missing we're messing the boat here, people. like Vegas got lights. It should be at night. Kansas got lights. It should be at night. Martinsville.
Jarratt: It's in for the Wednesday night COVID races, and then they haven't had a Martinsville night race since. What the hell are we doing? And I feel like we're going to have a. 12 o 'clock. Homestead, Green Flag, also a track with lights.
Jarratt: that's given as many classic finishes under the lights and we won't be able to see that either Um,
Art Freea: It's 3pm.
Jarratt: Um, Doesn't matter. It's not going to be dark by then. Um, Tired of it. I'm so tired of it. ah Use the lights. Please, if if we get the... The data center is hogging up all of the... ah the, utility usage.
Jarratt: I mean, what else can you put in the infield besides solar panels to to give the lights power? Come on, y 'all.
Art Freea: No, honestly.
Jarratt: Use your head. Come on, bro.
Art Freea: the fact The fact that Talladega is a NASCAR facility that for some reason that can't find lights, you know, Mankind has mastered electricity for a long damn time.
Jarratt: What are we doing?
Jarratt: Man.
Art Freea: Several hundred years, if I've recalled correctly. The idea that this... Patch of land cannot get lights on it in the year 2026. It baffles me.
Jarratt: Y 'all love all this shit.
Art Freea: I've never been there, so I can't attest to the local. environment, but I'm pretty sure They can find a way. with enough extension cables to get some lights up there.
Jarratt: yo are're Full of shit. And I'm tired of it.
PEYTON: this
Art Freea: Jesus.
Jarratt: oh I'm so tired of it. Because what do we have? What's next week?
Art Freea: Charlotte.
Jarratt: We got the the Bank of America 500. We back on the oval, baby.
PEYTON: No, 400, 400, they took.
Jarratt: What time to restart?
PEYTON: 100 miles from us. it's 400 miles because
Jarratt: What time to restart?
Art Freea: Listen, a man, the race.
PEYTON: Has Kyle Larson complained too much? and and And Denny Hamlin complains that the razor's too long, and so he took it away.
Jarratt: you know
Art Freea: The race starts at 3pm Eastern.
PEYTON: It'll be done probably by like...
Jarratt: It's a damn shame.
PEYTON: 550.
Jarratt: Right. and So not go it's not going to have any cautions outside of the stage because this will be the fastest mountain high race this year.
PEYTON: Make me sick.
Art Freea: No. somebody's gonna eat shit in the trial on the front strip somebody's gonna eat it
Jarratt: You hope.
PEYTON: This thing needed to start.
Art Freea: Well, yeah, I don't want those boring ass movies.
PEYTON: it but
Madelyn: is in the race. He spun with nothing this week, so...
Jarratt: Yeah, Cody we're tried to give us an all -timer he spent on the restart
Madelyn: There's always going to be a yellow flag.
Jarratt: that's how i knew he was in for some bullshit Because he didn't get they didn't throw a yellow for that either.
PEYTON: Anyway.
Jarratt: You just buggered up the track.
PEYTON: Sunday's going to get rained out anyway, so it's going to be a Monday show anyway, and that's what NASCAR deserves is a Monday race. It's about to be a month soon on Sunday.
Art Freea: Oh, is it gonna rain?
PEYTON: Ooh.
Jarratt: Yeah. Honorable mention goes to apparently um nascar twitter is really upset about all the at all of the media people i don't know how it started
Madelyn: NASCAR daughter is always upset about something.
Jarratt: Like all the.
Madelyn: You can't breathe without NASCAR Twitter being upset about something.
Jarratt: Like all the all the media members are getting dunked on right now. I'm like man Y 'all should just really listen to this show. but I think you'd have a much better outlook on life. You'd wake up happy if you listened to us.
Art Freea: Wait, why are they mad at the media people? What happened?
Jarratt: Apparently, NASCAR media is just doing whatever the sanctioned body says in the green. with everything they do. like They give the talking stick, they follow the talking stick, and they don't have any into into individual thoughts, feelings, or opinions towards the sport and the bad that they do.
PEYTON: As. As I said last week.
Art Freea: And that's why you listen to Victory Lane Vibes. that We don't do that bullshit here. We call it like it is.
Jarratt: Until the check comes. What did you say, Peyton?
PEYTON: As I said...
Jarratt: When the check starts coming, we may change the tune.
Madelyn: was say I think it's people not understanding how sports journalism works.
PEYTON: That's what I said last week.
Madelyn: That's why NASCAR Twitter is mad.
Art Freea: I mean probably that too.
Madelyn: They hate influencers, but they really just want to listen to influencers.
Jarratt: Yes.
Jarratt: Well, I mean if you think about the ah
Madelyn: who bitch about the sport.
Jarratt: The traditional NASCAR fan and the... The Okay. Never mind. We're not going to go through that. um I'm going to get to that.
Art Freea: The thing is, they... that the they hate influencers because they are not influencers that's really where it's it all most internet hatred stems from jealousy.
Jarratt: Comes from jealousy. There you go.
Art Freea: That's usually where it comes from. They want to be the ones on.
PEYTON: Yes, and?
Art Freea: again. Well, I'm just stating. i have to That's where it really comes from. That's where the real influencer hate comes from. The reality is that there's... whatever, 50 people with a big fucking internet following in the infield. It does not matter. It's not going to affect your race. It's not going to affect your experience watching it on the couch or in the stands. It does not matter.
Madelyn: i just think
PEYTON: I'm just saying I hate people who with more money than me. More popularity. Ferrari F1. These are the things in life that I hate. So if that makes me a hater then so be it and also nascar as i said last week
Jarratt: yeah
PEYTON: If you are cutting checks for opinions. I'm your man.
Jarratt: and
PEYTON: I will send you my contact details. Listen. Y 'all ran out Mamba Smith. If you need someone to step up to the plate.
Art Freea: I do. ah
Madelyn: He's still running watch parties on Sundays in Charlotte.
Jarratt: You know what? thank you for listening thank you for being here like comment subscribe to your Mammy's to your Grammy's best on merch.
Art Freea: That's raggedy. is
Art Freea: What do you say? Are you ready, Paul?
Jarratt: Get these shorts.
Art Freea: this
Jarratt: Go watch the race with Mamba Sunday since it's going to be in Charlotte. Um,
Art Freea: Is it?
Jarratt: Beat me wild, dog.
Art Freea: We don't know if that's a thing. Why are you advertising something?
Jarratt: you You are a thug. You are a thug.
Art Freea: if
Jarratt: He has been carried.
Art Freea: I think we're gonna look.
Jarratt: dark never mind um we will see you all we'll see you all next week After Charlotte?
Art Freea: hu
PEYTON: And that's where I can come in and replace him.
Art Freea: What? What?
Madelyn: We're done.
Art Freea: You mean?
Jarratt: Nope.
Art Freea: Yeah.
Jarratt: Nope, I'm not going back.
Art Freea: What?
Jarratt: Nope, I'm not going back.
Art Freea: What are you...
Jarratt: I'm not going back. I'm not going back.
Art Freea: Hey!
Jarratt: Um,
Art Freea: Hey, you remember a couple of weeks ago when Jared said the South will rise again?
Madelyn: We're done.
Jarratt: ah
Madelyn: We're done.
Art Freea: And Jared said the South will rise again on the show at the end. but ah Mentally, I'm still there.
PEYTON: What's funny me is that's not even a weird thing to say.
Art Freea: if
PEYTON: I got that's that's just my Tennessee brain pill
Art Freea: this
Jarratt: ah
Art Freea: Man, let's...
Jarratt: Oh I hope the video posts because Madeline's face when he said that was priceless.
Art Freea: Is that it?
PEYTON: East, let's just say East Tennessee brain. Maybe that's not a central tendency.
Art Freea: Some of y 'all on the wrong side of history. That's all I'm saying. That's all I'm saying.
Jarratt: What cheering for losers? Never mind. Good night, everyone. See you tomorrow. Ta -ta.
PEYTON: will You gotta see me tomorrow.
Art Freea: oof
