Speaker: Previously on... Previously on Buffy the Vampire Slayer They kiss and then they kiss again... A lot.
Speaker: It goes on for quite some time.
Speaker: It's very audible.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: As well.
Speaker: I think that's the one thing about Buffy and Angel kissing.
Speaker: It's very sloppy every time.
Speaker: And she's like, Giles, I kissed this guy last night.
Speaker: Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.
Speaker: Like, the stuff he has to listen to.
Speaker: I know.
Speaker: And I love his... Can we steer this riveting conversation back to the events that happened earlier in the evening?
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Hello and welcome back to previously on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Speaker: We're on episode eight, iRobot, you, Jane.
Speaker: What did you think of this one, Sarah?
Speaker: I really liked this episode.
Speaker: I have to admit I'm slightly biased.
Speaker: I think my main reason for liking this episode so much is the dynamic between a certain character.
Speaker: two characters our favorite librarian and then a new character who's been introduced in this episode as well yeah this is the best thing about this episode in my opinion it is other than that it's dated really badly um yeah it's not necessarily my favorite episode we actually we we have said that we'll be
Speaker: announcing the the best episode of each season I mean have you got a list thus far seeing we're halfway now over halfway rather uh well I wouldn't say I have a full list but I think at the moment up to this point um never kill a boy on the first date is still my favorite episode of this season but I actually would say this one is kind of coming in second at the moment oh wow okay
Speaker: this rate's really high there on your list yeah I don't know if that's a sentiment other people necessarily share but at the moment that's how it's looking that could change probably will change yes yeah I think this is uh it's a great it is a great episode and I know I say it's dated but the actual the idea of
Speaker: the internet and it being not necessarily a good thing and a safe environment.
Speaker: I think it still rings true today.
Speaker: It does.
Speaker: And I think it'll kind of remind maybe younger viewers who didn't live through dial-up and all that stuff that we didn't actually, you know, it was quite a scary place still, the internet.
Speaker: I mean, things have probably got worse, but it reminds you that there's always been that sort of
Speaker: darker side to it.
Speaker: Yeah, I think people are savvy to it now, aren't they?
Speaker: They're a bit more switched on to it, whereas back then I think people were naive and a bit more gullible.
Speaker: And Willow is a perfect example of that.
Speaker: And again, it doesn't matter how
Speaker: capable you are or how much of a computer geek you are, you know, it can still bite you.
Speaker: So, yeah, it's I think that the message is it's actually it's also really interesting.
Speaker: I was doing a watch of all of the Avengers stuff.
Speaker: the marvel and i don't know which one it is but there's essentially this story told in film form and
Speaker: where the bad guy is Moloch and he wants to destroy the world but he wants to control it and everything.
Speaker: Age of Ultron, there you go.
Speaker: I wouldn't be a huge Avengers geek so I know almost nothing.
Speaker: Yeah, I don't know it that well.
Speaker: I've watched it once and I've sort of completely lost track on, I don't know, the 30th film.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: That's coming out.
Speaker: I don't quite, I can't quite follow it anymore.
Speaker: But what was interesting is when we were watching that film, I was like, oh, this, this is just like I robot Eugene.
Speaker: This is, this is Buffy.
Speaker: Cause obviously I see everything links back to Buffy.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: And amazingly, it actually turns out that Age of Ultron was written by Joss Whedon.
Speaker: Oh, yeah, of course.
Speaker: So it's like, oh, well, he had a practice run with this episode.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: So and that is as far as my knowledge, Marvel knowledge goes.
Speaker: That's it.
Speaker: So let's get back to Buffy then.
Speaker: I know, I do apologise.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Going off on one again.
Speaker: So, yeah, we were in another time period altogether at the start of this episode.
Speaker: We're gone back to 1418, long, long time ago in Italy.
Speaker: So there's lots of people speaking Latin, of course.
Speaker: Apart from apart from when Moloch reverts to English and says no.
Speaker: Which makes total sense.
Speaker: Love it.
Speaker: And Carlo with his Lego hair.
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: I thought he looked a little bit like Xander, actually, at the beginning of this.
Speaker: He was a mix between Xander and then Pedro Pascal.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: In Buffy.
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: Yeah, I got a bit of vibe going off there.
Speaker: I was like, oh, okay.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Oh dear.
Speaker: The most inconsequential scene of the entire episode.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: And we're still talking about it in detail.
Speaker: Sorry.
Speaker: So to, yeah, to just to summarize this.
Speaker: So we have a demon called Moloch and a guy called Carlo.
Speaker: And yeah, we have a little scene here where the demon is promising him everything if he gives him his love.
Speaker: So that's a recurring theme.
Speaker: And then he kills him, as you do, because, you know, not enough love to go around.
Speaker: So he kills him.
Speaker: So we have, are they monks or priests?
Speaker: I can't work this out.
Speaker: Are monks not priests?
Speaker: I don't know.
Speaker: They're just guys.
Speaker: Yeah, religious guys.
Speaker: So they are basically doing something called a spell involving what's called the Circle of Calus.
Speaker: And the demon ends up trapped in a book.
Speaker: So there's a big speech about, you know, pray this a cursed book shall never again be read, lest the demon be summoned, etc, etc.
Speaker: Which, of course, since this is Buffy the Vampire Slayer, means that it will be read again and the demon will be summoned.
Speaker: And just to prove that, we go back to the present day and Buffy finds this very book in a box in the library because, of course, it ended up in Sunnydale.
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: I love that.
Speaker: The scene transition where he closes the box and then Buffy opens it and she's like, oh, great.
Speaker: A book.
Speaker: So it's actually in the original script of the show.
Speaker: There's actually quite a lot cut from the original script.
Speaker: script and then what actually ended up on the episode and Giles actually mentions in passing it's a colleague of his who has sent him this book so um it obviously he doesn't really need much explanation for being there because it's Giles and it's the library but yes
Speaker: they explain why it was there interestingly because we don't get any sort of explanation in in the final episode it's like oh well you know it's somehow made its way from 1418 to to this present moment yeah um so we we actually meet a new character straight away in this scene
Speaker: Yeah, I love this whole... I just love Jenny Callender.
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: I'm just going to say this now.
Speaker: I love Jenny Callender, who was actually meant to be called Nicky,
Speaker: That's interesting.
Speaker: So again, in the original script.
Speaker: But she's not actually named.
Speaker: She's Ms.
Speaker: Calendar throughout this episode.
Speaker: Originally, it was meant to be Nikki, but they decided to change that when they decided that Nikki and Nicholas Brendan, whose nickname was Nikki, they just thought, it's just too confusing.
Speaker: So they changed it to Jenny.
Speaker: Do we know of any particular reason why it was Jenny or...
Speaker: I don't know.
Speaker: I think they just decided Jenny Callender.
Speaker: It does have a ring to it.
Speaker: I think it's nicer.
Speaker: It's a very pretty name.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: It's more her, I think.
Speaker: It is.
Speaker: As well.
Speaker: And she is just full of sass.
Speaker: Oh, yeah.
Speaker: Straight away.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: In fact, I would actually say she's on par with Buffy.
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: For sass.
Speaker: Yeah, definitely.
Speaker: I don't know if she's more so, but yeah.
Speaker: And this is just so, so amazing.
Speaker: This whole scene, we just jump straight in.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: They're doing this skimming, as Giles calls it.
Speaker: And he, of course, means scanning.
Speaker: So we quickly learned that computers are her thing and the students have been sort of roped in to help scan the books.
Speaker: So there's a new database which freaks the fuck out of Giles.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: To be honest.
Speaker: You can see his face is absolutely... He's in hell.
Speaker: He's in complete hell.
Speaker: He'd rather fight a demon.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: And unfortunately, he considers Miss Callender a demon at this point, definitely.
Speaker: I love his face when she goes over and she's like, Rupert, it's scan.
Speaker: You scan it?
Speaker: And he goes, of course.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: It's painful for him.
Speaker: It's so good.
Speaker: I know we're not doing like, or favourite scenes.
Speaker: That's probably my favourite moment, his face.
Speaker: Where he's just like, fuck off.
Speaker: Yeah, it's a very fuck off kind of face.
Speaker: He's like, fuck you.
Speaker: Of course.
Speaker: They're like kids in a playground.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Oh, and my word.
Speaker: I mean, the
Speaker: The sexual tension between the two of them.
Speaker: Absolutely.
Speaker: Even already, you know, within seconds.
Speaker: And it's interesting, actually, that this is the first time we actually find out what Giles' first name is.
Speaker: Because she's the first person to call him Rupert so far.
Speaker: Oh my goodness.
Speaker: Up to now, it's just been Mr. Giles or Giles.
Speaker: But now it's like, oh, okay, he's got a first name.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: I never spotted that.
Speaker: I'm pretty sure anyway.
Speaker: I was looking out for it and I'm pretty sure this is the first time because no one else has had any real reason to call him that.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Oh, thank you for giving me that moment.
Speaker: It kind of indicates as well that they're already, not that they know each other really well, but if she's calling him Rupert, it's like we're already sort of at a point where she feels she can do that.
Speaker: Yes, yeah.
Speaker: I think, again, they're working on the fact that they're both faculty.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: You know, they would know each other by now anyway.
Speaker: But this is potentially like the first proper interaction that they've had where they're getting a shape of each other.
Speaker: And again, in the original script, right at the end, the last scene between them, there's another bit where they actually talk about
Speaker: not talking to faculty about what happened.
Speaker: I said there's a history.
Speaker: It's just, it's establishing that they already know each other.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: You know, and we have to go off the basis that they're colleagues.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: They don't necessarily need to like each other.
Speaker: But yeah, we just have some great banter in this scene.
Speaker: Like when she says, I know our ways are strange to you, but soon you will join us in the 20th century with three whole years to spare.
Speaker: she's brilliant and he's like miss calendar like fuck fuck off you fucking horrible woman leave miss calendar it's just how he's yeah just like this disdain yeah um and i i love how he's he's still battling the computer i love that the fact that he called it the dread machine and now we've moved on to the idiot box
Speaker: yeah she's like no that's the tv so but all the while everyone else is just let just not even interacting they're just they're busy or whatever and then fritz we we get to meet fritz uh interject and it's like uh guy read the room these two are flirting leave them to it yeah a little entertainment here you know
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: And he's like, information's not bound.
Speaker: It's an entity.
Speaker: What is it?
Speaker: You're not jacked in, you're not alive or something.
Speaker: And Giles' face, it's the same face of disdain.
Speaker: And he's like, oh, there's another computer freak in my library.
Speaker: Go away.
Speaker: But it's even too much for Jenny.
Speaker: Jenny's like, hmm, okay, thanks for that.
Speaker: You...
Speaker: really not giving well you're making everyone sound like a crazy person here but yeah so he's obviously he's very intense yeah he is not liking this for its guys no no he's actually the actor is on a lot of
Speaker: Buffy Facebook pages and he's quite active so if you want to have a chat with Fred if you're really that inclined talking about the demons on the internet he's there he can be chatted to so but yeah it goes straight back Jenny's straight back over to Giles talking about giving him some facts about email and
Speaker: He's like, it's something I regard with genuine horror.
Speaker: Go away.
Speaker: And yeah, I mean, he's doing the wardrobe side.
Speaker: Giles likes the stripy shirt and then the stripy tie.
Speaker: I'm not a huge fan of it.
Speaker: No, I love stripes, but it's definitely too much.
Speaker: Go one or the other, not both.
Speaker: And Jenny basically calls it quits.
Speaker: She says, right, okay, guys, you're done for the day.
Speaker: Xander runs off in the first opportunity and Willow decides that she's going to just finish up doing what she was doing, which is scanning the books into the computer.
Speaker: And I think this is...
Speaker: One of the best lines.
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: From the episode when Giles.
Speaker: Yeah, he says, I'm just going to stay and clean up a little.
Speaker: I'll be back in the Middle Ages.
Speaker: Did you ever leave?
Speaker: Brilliant.
Speaker: I love it.
Speaker: That's probably my favourite.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: She's so sass.
Speaker: She is.
Speaker: And he just doesn't know what to make of her.
Speaker: Well, he does not like her.
Speaker: So you automatically know that you think, oh, here we go.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Like, it's just, I love what they've introduced with that dynamic.
Speaker: I think it puts him in a really interesting position, the way he's having to interact with her.
Speaker: Just having another, a person closer to his own age kind of challenging him and giving him the sass rather than the students doing it.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Interestingly, the actress who plays Jenny Callender, who is now known as Robbia Scott, she was Robbia Lamorte.
Speaker: She is the same age as Charisma Carpenter by literally weeks.
Speaker: Yeah, it's mad to think that.
Speaker: Who plays Cordelia.
Speaker: So, you know, you've got...
Speaker: a fairly young woman yeah so again just to you know just to put a bit of perspective here so it is definitely a trend though with just the way they cast people like even in other things the the actresses are nearly always a good few years younger than him but you don't it doesn't look odd doesn't seem odd
Speaker: No.
Speaker: Well, he's... He's gorgeous.
Speaker: He's a fit, isn't he?
Speaker: I mean, they all knew it.
Speaker: They definitely all knew it.
Speaker: Well, it's actually... I mean, this is something we can chat about later on when Jenny returns.
Speaker: But, yeah, there's a reason why they introduced Jenny, which is interesting.
Speaker: But, anyway, meanwhile...
Speaker: Willow is working late, scanning her books.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: And this is such an antiquated scan system.
Speaker: I don't ever remember a scanner looking like that.
Speaker: No.
Speaker: And then once she's finished scanning that huge book that Buffy's found in the box, the screen, which is black,
Speaker: comes up with this times new roman font where am i creepy so um so we know that something has been scanned and all the lettering in the book disappears doesn't it so we know that that's shit's gone down yeah the demons woken up
Speaker: A demon in the internet.
Speaker: So next day, Buffy's running after Willow, who's on cloud nine.
Speaker: Yeah, she was up half the night, as we know, but she tells Buffy she was talking to someone.
Speaker: So Buffy obviously wants the details.
Speaker: What does he look like?
Speaker: Well, actually, that's... What's his name?
Speaker: Yeah, what's his name?
Speaker: Has she kissed him?
Speaker: And Willow says, no, but he's smart.
Speaker: He's romantic.
Speaker: Buffy says, what does he look like?
Speaker: And she goes, I don't know.
Speaker: I don't know.
Speaker: I think what's interesting, this scene as well, I know only clocked it this time, is Buffy actually mentioned, well, Willow says, oh, you know, last week when we were doing the scanning in the library, you know,
Speaker: Well, I met Malcolm then.
Speaker: So it's actually, it's a week ahead, which is interesting.
Speaker: And I think that actually puts it into different light when you're watching the episode because you think, oh, so this has been going on now for a number of days.
Speaker: So this is really, it's becoming...
Speaker: part of Willow's makeup, her life, and then consequently also Dave and Fritz, who we get to see again when they go into the science lab.
Speaker: And Buffy's obviously on the case for Willow.
Speaker: And again, Buffy's being a fantastic friend.
Speaker: She's like, hmm, OK, should we slow down a bit?
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: She's asking all the right questions.
Speaker: You know, what does she actually know about this guy?
Speaker: It's all just a bit fishy.
Speaker: It is.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: And I think I potentially fell in love a little with Jenny Callender when she walked in the room.
Speaker: She just looks like she's been on a night out.
Speaker: Yeah, glamorous.
Speaker: She's just so, she's all over the place.
Speaker: She's got a cup of coffee.
Speaker: Her hair is like half done.
Speaker: Sunglasses on.
Speaker: She's definitely hungover.
Speaker: And I'm just in love with her.
Speaker: I'm like, fuck, I just want to.
Speaker: Yeah, I just, yeah, girl crush.
Speaker: And I love how cool she is.
Speaker: She's like, oh, Buffy, you're here.
Speaker: And Buffy's like, yeah, I got a free.
Speaker: She's like, cool.
Speaker: Well, don't wait too long because this is lab time.
Speaker: Okay?
Speaker: It's like, what a cool teacher.
Speaker: She's awesome.
Speaker: I love her.
Speaker: She is.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: So this might potentially turn into the Jenny Calendar.
Speaker: Appreciation.
Speaker: Appreciation podcast as well.
Speaker: And we also get a bit more about Dave and Fritz.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: with with miss calendar she sort of said oh you're clocking up a lot of time and obviously when you think oh it's been a week it sort of makes a bit more sense um so and fritz just kills the room again by i sort of had ending every conversation that he's ever involved in um and and he's like oh we're we're working on a new project and
Speaker: she's like oh will i be excited he's like you'll die it's like oh yeah lovely and it's just sort of and just before that as well there's a when buffy is talking to willow we see it's like the her face is being scanned and her record comes up on the screen and is it fritz yeah fritz is looking at that
Speaker: And then we get those creepy words flashing up on the screen.
Speaker: Watch her.
Speaker: Yes, this is all happening at the same time.
Speaker: See, I got completely waylaid by the Jenny Callender.
Speaker: Yeah, it's very back and forth.
Speaker: They're quick little scenes.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: I just wasn't even listening or paying any attention to the actual story.
Speaker: I was just more like, I love Jenny.
Speaker: Oh, Miss Callender.
Speaker: I love Jenny.
Speaker: So, yeah.
Speaker: Yeah, and of course, you know, Willow's getting a bit defensive about Buffy's attitude towards Malcolm.
Speaker: Yeah, because she's kind of... She's like, oh, he said that you'd say that.
Speaker: Oh, here we go.
Speaker: Yeah, of course, it's like all the pixelated camera view, which I love.
Speaker: So I think we do need to put a disclaimer here that it wasn't like that.
Speaker: No, it was not.
Speaker: You know, it wasn't that bad.
Speaker: I don't remember so many pixels.
Speaker: No, no.
Speaker: I mean, they're like huge, massive chunks.
Speaker: It's like a jigsaw puzzle.
Speaker: But yeah, it's, yeah, well, Jenny Callender.
Speaker: Just anyone else to say.
Speaker: And then we get these little, we follow Willow, don't we, out to the quad.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: And there's little bits like the guy's like talking about Nazi Germany and his essay.
Speaker: Oh my God, yeah.
Speaker: He's got this incredible 90s looking laptop or brick or something.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: I mean, fucking hell.
Speaker: He's like, Nazi Germany was a model of a well-ordered society.
Speaker: I didn't write that.
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: Who's been at my files.
Speaker: So you're like, uh-oh.
Speaker: That computer, it looks like you'd be able to launch NASA.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Rocket launch.
Speaker: It's huge.
Speaker: But yeah, you think, oh, that is a laptop.
Speaker: And then we get this little interaction between Buffy and Xander.
Speaker: where Xander makes a point and basically says, yeah, but Malcolm could be anyone.
Speaker: I could be anyone on the internet.
Speaker: I could be a student at school or I could be, what is it, a nun or something like that.
Speaker: And it's true.
Speaker: So it goes through this whole, yes, but people can be anything they want to be online.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: um and it may not necessarily be true and then they sort of laugh it off they sort of go oh you know you got me there it's all okay and it's like no guys you are completely on drag um so um yeah it's it's one of those where they do it a few times where they sort of go well what could possibly go wrong and
Speaker: And it's exactly as they've described.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: So we cut back into the lab then.
Speaker: We see creepy Fritz again.
Speaker: And he's sitting in front of the computer screen looking very brainwashed.
Speaker: And he's just repeatedly saying, I'm jacked in while, oh, this is quite disturbing.
Speaker: He's carving the letter M into his arm.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: So...
Speaker: He reminds me of Joss Whedon, actually.
Speaker: I think he looks a little like him.
Speaker: He does, yeah.
Speaker: I'll leave that there.
Speaker: I'll leave that moment with you.
Speaker: And then we're right back into, well, I think the next day, because Willow's run into the locker room.
Speaker: you know, where shit always happens.
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: And Buffy's like, were you talking to Malcolm last night?
Speaker: She's like, oh, I slept in.
Speaker: She's like, what, to fifth period?
Speaker: That's all day, Willow.
Speaker: The school day is over.
Speaker: Everyone's going home.
Speaker: She's quite alarmed then when she discovers that Willow has actually been skipping some classes, which is not like her...
Speaker: at all it really isn't and willow willow is quite defensive like she says you know she thought buffy would be happy for her because boys don't usually you know chase around after her and then she says malcolm said you wouldn't understand and buffy says yeah malcolm was right yes
Speaker: It's so good.
Speaker: She's very mumsy here.
Speaker: She is.
Speaker: Is Buffy.
Speaker: But in a good way.
Speaker: You know, she's really looking out for her friend.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: But you can tell there's a bit of tension there.
Speaker: And it's interesting because, you know, Buffy actually, she calls Xander up on it in the earlier scene where she's like, oh, you're just jealous.
Speaker: Mm-hmm.
Speaker: And he's like, no, no, I'm not.
Speaker: Just concerned about Willow.
Speaker: I'm concerned.
Speaker: And I think it's interesting because Willow is saying the same to Buffy.
Speaker: Like, well, you're just jealous.
Speaker: You know, it's just because someone's interested in me.
Speaker: So, yeah, it's an interesting dynamic.
Speaker: And then this has got to be the most amazing outfit.
Speaker: in the next scene when Buffy goes back into the computer room, the room of computers, the room of Jenny Calendar.
Speaker: Sounding very gilesy there.
Speaker: The room of dread machines.
Speaker: The dread machine room.
Speaker: And she's looking for Dave, who is a real sweetie.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: He's like, you're a proper little geek, but in a really nice way.
Speaker: He's got a nice shirt.
Speaker: He's very 50s.
Speaker: He is.
Speaker: Sort of shirt.
Speaker: But her dress, I think it's a dress, is gorgeous.
Speaker: Mm-hmm.
Speaker: And her, you know, her typical like hair up, down, do.
Speaker: It's so Buffy.
Speaker: I love, yeah, that's my outfit for the episode.
Speaker: And this particular scene, I think it's just really sweet.
Speaker: Again, Buffy's looking out for Willow.
Speaker: She heads over to Dave, slips up slightly when she says, oh, you're a computer geek.
Speaker: Genius.
Speaker: I mean, genius.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: um can can i trace and this is i love buffy speak an e letter a letter and she doesn't really know what to call it i love that
Speaker: bless her um yeah so and she's trying to she's essentially saying can we trace the email the e-letter uh dave's like yeah of course you know that that's possible and and again they reiterate that whatever you put online it's down to you you know you can write your profile yeah and then buffy's like well can we trace where the computer is
Speaker: that the E letter is sent from.
Speaker: And Dave's like, yeah, that's, it's possible.
Speaker: It's hard, but yeah, we can do that.
Speaker: This is because obviously it's this, this is the nineties.
Speaker: So it's much harder.
Speaker: And, uh, and she's like, oh yeah, because Willow's got this guy called Malcolm and da da da.
Speaker: And then things take a turn.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: He changes.
Speaker: And I really like that.
Speaker: Buffy's like, are you Malcolm Dave?
Speaker: Cause he's really defensive.
Speaker: He says, leave Willow alone.
Speaker: It's like, Ooh, yeah.
Speaker: Okay.
Speaker: And a part of me sort of thinks Dave and Willow probably would be a nice little item.
Speaker: They would, yeah, in an ideal world, which it never is.
Speaker: No, no.
Speaker: Yeah, he was going through the, you know, the curtains and the dorky look.
Speaker: And Buffy leaves that with him, doesn't she?
Speaker: She's like, okay, fine.
Speaker: And he's like, well, I've got work to do.
Speaker: And she's like, yeah, me too.
Speaker: Because she's, again, alarm bell.
Speaker: She's like, yeah, I'm not fucking leaving this.
Speaker: And then all the while, Fritz, who's clearly invisible, is listening in.
Speaker: And glaring at her.
Speaker: So it's like, yeah.
Speaker: Not forgetting the instruction from the computer already, saying to him to watch Buffy.
Speaker: That's Giles' job.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Excuse me.
Speaker: He's the watcher.
Speaker: So, but it's fine.
Speaker: She's back in the library in her amazing outfit.
Speaker: You get full-blown because the lighting is much better.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: And it's like a Japanese embroidered
Speaker: design on the front it's really lovely it's like a blue velvet Buffy is doing the thing again she's following her instincts and she's like there's something wrong Dave and Fritz they're all wicked jumpy or something and Giles cracks me up and he's like well the those boys aren't sparkingly normal as it is and
Speaker: So many good lines in this scene.
Speaker: She wants Giles' help, but he's not exactly forthcoming because he's still being a technophobe and he says, things involving the computer fill me with a childlike terror.
Speaker: Definitely.
Speaker: And it manifests itself toward Miss Callender.
Speaker: Definitely.
Speaker: But interesting costume note.
Speaker: It's the same tie that he was wearing in Never Kill a Boy on the First Date.
Speaker: See, he knew we liked it, so he wore it again, especially.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: So it's probably the last time that you, because he has a huge collection of ties, does Giles.
Speaker: So, but yeah, always keep an eye on for the costume.
Speaker: So he suggests that she follows Dave.
Speaker: And I love this because Buffy is like in dark glasses on a trench coat.
Speaker: So that's exactly what she does.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: She's like, oh, please, I'm not going to do that.
Speaker: So, again, in the original script, there's a bit more dialogue between them both.
Speaker: And it's Buffy sort of internally...
Speaker: Well, externally thinking out how she would do it, how she would find out.
Speaker: And she then sort of goes, yeah, I'll go and tell him.
Speaker: So it moves quite quickly.
Speaker: It's the end of the school day.
Speaker: Dave has a car.
Speaker: So Dave's got something going for him, I think.
Speaker: It's an old car.
Speaker: Dave's got wheels and a brain and...
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: And a nice 50s shirt.
Speaker: And Buffy has got the most amazing sunglasses.
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: And the heaviest trench coat for Californian weather.
Speaker: I mean, she'd be fine in Derbyshire.
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: in the winter but yeah she's um she's staking out this um place so she's followed dave's car so she's got fucking speed as well um and he's turned up somewhere some place called crd
Speaker: So we don't know what it is just yet, but there's CCTV camera.
Speaker: And of course, back at the school, Fritz is watching her as he's been instructed to do.
Speaker: And he asks the computer what he should do.
Speaker: And then the words come up, kill her.
Speaker: So things are getting very intense now.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: I mean, he is an intense guy.
Speaker: He is.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah, he does look so much like Joss Whedon.
Speaker: This particular scene is where it's like, fuck, it's a younger Joss Whedon.
Speaker: Fritz Whedon.
Speaker: Okay, he is going to be called Fritz Whedon.
Speaker: I love it.
Speaker: That's fucking brilliant, Sarah.
Speaker: I love that.
Speaker: Thank you.
Speaker: Fritz Sweden.
Speaker: It sounds like it could be somebody's name.
Speaker: It sounds like Joss's brother.
Speaker: Meanwhile, in the library, back at the library, Buffy's
Speaker: reported back about CRD.
Speaker: Xander has a little moment to shine here.
Speaker: Xander is the man of information.
Speaker: Yeah, I love this bit.
Speaker: He says quite quickly, actually speaks quite rapidly that CRD is that it's a computer research lab and it was the third largest employer in Sunnydale until it closed down.
Speaker: And I love the look that Buffy and Giles give him.
Speaker: And he says, what, a guy can't have information sometimes.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: And Giles' response is actually a bit, it's a bit rude, actually.
Speaker: It's just somewhat unprecedented.
Speaker: Like, fuck you.
Speaker: That's really mean.
Speaker: It's like, come on, you're meant to nurture the students.
Speaker: This banter with Jenny is really getting to him now, you see.
Speaker: So he's just taking it out on everybody else.
Speaker: That's my theory.
Speaker: And we also hear that Xander's uncle, Rory, is it Rory?
Speaker: Roy?
Speaker: Does he name him in this episode?
Speaker: I think, yeah.
Speaker: Well, we've named him.
Speaker: That's his name.
Speaker: Rory Roy.
Speaker: Uncle Rory Roy works at CRD as a cleaner.
Speaker: Sweeping the floors.
Speaker: Sweeping the floors.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: So they know something's up because this place is...
Speaker: is a big employer it's it's a huge business and it's in the area closing down so what was dave doing there it's all a bit suspect it's it's weird well buffy says she knows something's wrong because her her spider sense is tingling and giles just gives her the side eyes like your spider sense and she says it's a pop culture reference sorry
Speaker: So poor Giles is really getting it from everyone in this episode.
Speaker: Yeah, he's just not a happy guy.
Speaker: No, no.
Speaker: He's just so impatient.
Speaker: And I love the moment.
Speaker: I don't know what it is.
Speaker: It's almost like Buffy knew that he was going to say it and just jumped on the minute.
Speaker: He says, well... She says, short of breaking in.
Speaker: And she's like, yep, that's her plan.
Speaker: Orin Zander, like, yeah, let's do it tonight.
Speaker: Great idea.
Speaker: And she's like, yep, let's go and commit a felony.
Speaker: And Giles is like, well, you know, suggest that you illegally enter the data into files.
Speaker: Because Miss Callender has walked in and is like, okay, what's going on here?
Speaker: Looking absolutely...
Speaker: Radiant.
Speaker: Divine.
Speaker: This is another costume.
Speaker: He's distracted by that.
Speaker: That's what's going on, really.
Speaker: He's like, whoa, look at her.
Speaker: You see, I'm not sure he likes her at this point.
Speaker: No, no.
Speaker: He's still on the, I can't stand this woman.
Speaker: Jenny, I think...
Speaker: She's, she's, yeah, Jenny is all of us.
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: She's on our team.
Speaker: She knows.
Speaker: I mean, what is she even doing in there?
Speaker: Exactly.
Speaker: I mean, fuck.
Speaker: And she comes up with some really weird excuse.
Speaker: Like that she's going to come and check the files because he wouldn't have done it.
Speaker: We have this continuous clash of analogue and digital here.
Speaker: She wants to check his database.
Speaker: Hello.
Speaker: I bet you do, naughty lady.
Speaker: To make sure it isn't glitching because she's guessing he hasn't gone anywhere near it.
Speaker: And he's like, well, I'm still sorting through the chaos you left behind.
Speaker: It's like, oh, please, guys, just shut up and kiss already.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: put them put them together so then Jenny makes a very astute observation and she's like to Buffy and Xander you guys are in here a lot yeah you kids really dig the library don't you and it's like too right they do you know with that handsome English man hanging around well it's like excuse me you are also in the library yeah
Speaker: A lot.
Speaker: Love.
Speaker: And then I think this is a great line from Xander.
Speaker: Oh, yeah.
Speaker: Love it.
Speaker: To read makes our speaking English good.
Speaker: Buffy's face is like, we're going, because he can't string two words together.
Speaker: And they're picking up on this tension as well, so it's like, let's leave them to it.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Buffy's like, we're going, it's fine, we don't need to talk about this anymore.
Speaker: And then we get the internet, or what the internet is meant to look like in Buffy.
Speaker: Yeah, because we have Willow messaging Malcolm.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: And he's, yeah, this voice is creepy, actually.
Speaker: I don't like, I don't like this.
Speaker: But I confess as well, when I, I mean, I look at this and go, it was never like that.
Speaker: I genuinely don't know because I didn't actually go on to the internet.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: even though I am old enough yeah I just I recall at this point being told to stay away from those chat rooms yeah I love that story actually about when the cast realized that there was so much stuff on the internet about the show and about them that story that Anthony Head tells about Alison Hannigan saying do you have a computer go and look yourself up there's there's shrines to all of us on the internet yeah
Speaker: Yeah, because this is when it was happening.
Speaker: It was getting really big, wasn't it?
Speaker: So there was Buffy chats and stuff.
Speaker: And I missed all of this because I was a bit of a technophobe.
Speaker: I'm not a huge fan of it still now.
Speaker: Yeah, I'm sort of gutted that I missed all of that.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Did you go on to any chats?
Speaker: I was way too young.
Speaker: Oh, sorry.
Speaker: Okay, fine.
Speaker: date yourself so willow's messaging malcolm and he says he's never felt this way about anyone before cliche and she feels like he knows her better than anyone should they meet and he thinks they should willow says buffy doesn't understand and that's when he sort of sees an opportunity and says buffy just makes trouble that's why she got kicked out of her old school
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: But I love the fact that Willow doesn't get sucked into this.
Speaker: She kind of goes, hang on a second.
Speaker: How do you know?
Speaker: Yeah, because Willow is still Willow.
Speaker: you know willow's smart and she's maybe like little alarm bells but she's like hang on a minute um and she does the right thing she walks away yeah because he says it just gets weirder and weirder he says it's on her permanent record and then he does that thing of you must have mentioned it she's like nah pretty sure i didn't so she's like i'm gonna sign off and he says don't and she does anyway she does
Speaker: So we're back in the library again.
Speaker: Jenny, I love this woman.
Speaker: I mean, since Buffy and Xander left, we're back here and Mr. Giles and Miss Callender are still bickering about musty old books versus fabulous web pages.
Speaker: Oh, she's just amazing.
Speaker: You're a snob.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: And he's horrified.
Speaker: He's like, I am not.
Speaker: No such thing.
Speaker: And I love this, actually, because he goes on this impassioned rant about communication becoming obsolete and people being completely manipulated by technology.
Speaker: And it's like, geez, he has a point.
Speaker: He's not wrong.
Speaker: No.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: There's some great fortune telling there.
Speaker: It's lovely.
Speaker: But you can see, you know, he starts to say the reasons why he's not overly taken.
Speaker: He's not enamoured by this new fad.
Speaker: And you can see she's really, she knows what she's doing.
Speaker: I mean, she sits down on that table and,
Speaker: And she, I mean, she's gorgeous and she's got the most amazing outfit.
Speaker: And she's like, she's there crossing her legs, pulling out a book.
Speaker: She fucking knows what she's up to.
Speaker: Yeah, definitely.
Speaker: And then, you know, she continues with the sass and saying, well, this book doesn't really, because he's, what has he said?
Speaker: He's like, there's a lot more in books than you can get on any of your webpages.
Speaker: Okay.
Speaker: fabulous web pages.
Speaker: It seems like me when I look on the Buffy website, I was like, oh, well, that was a bit disappointing.
Speaker: So I thought I'll go back to the book.
Speaker: And yeah, so she's like, oh, well, this one's blank.
Speaker: And this is a fantastic interaction.
Speaker: It is.
Speaker: Between the two.
Speaker: Giles gets completely distracted by the fact that the book is indeed empty.
Speaker: His worst nightmare.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: His worst nightmare.
Speaker: Closes the book and sees the etching of Moloch, a demon, on the cover.
Speaker: And again, from the original script...
Speaker: There's a lovely interaction.
Speaker: They do cut this down.
Speaker: I can see why they cut it down, because the timing of it is fantastic.
Speaker: And Giles just sort of says, oh, yeah, I'd imagine what that is.
Speaker: You know, it's a diary, is it?
Speaker: And he's like, well, it's been so nice talking to you.
Speaker: She's like, we were fighting.
Speaker: He's like, yes, we'll have to do it again sometime.
Speaker: Bye now.
Speaker: But there's actually a few other lines that they cut where Jenny is looking at the cover and
Speaker: I love it where she says, oh, you collect heavy metal album covers too?
Speaker: Question mark.
Speaker: And he's not heard what she said.
Speaker: And he's like, yes, yeah.
Speaker: She's like, you do?
Speaker: And then he says, well, it was nice talking to you.
Speaker: So I get why they cut it.
Speaker: But yeah, there's a lot more interaction.
Speaker: So I would recommend to people not to look up transcript because that's the...
Speaker: That's the actual what was produced and what was shown.
Speaker: But if you look for the original script, they're all out there.
Speaker: So it's worth reading through because there's some little cut scenes.
Speaker: There's loads that you sort of think, oh, okay.
Speaker: It just adds a little bit more or new dimensions and stuff.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Or you could just listen to this podcast.
Speaker: Yeah, because we explain it all.
Speaker: There you go.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: I read all of this for you and then I relay it.
Speaker: So, but yeah, it's a fantastic, I love that scene.
Speaker: Mm-hmm.
Speaker: Yeah, so Giles is now aware of the book and Moloch and the fact that it's empty.
Speaker: So he's in full Giles mode now.
Speaker: It's like, yeah, you need to go.
Speaker: Let me get on with this.
Speaker: Yeah, bye now.
Speaker: And then we're back to Dave, who has not had the best wardrobe choice.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: He looks like he's wearing a tea towel.
Speaker: And he suggests to Buffy, well, he apologises to Buffy for being short and then says Willow's looking for her in the locker room.
Speaker: Hmm.
Speaker: And it's like, well, we know what happens in the locker room.
Speaker: Don't go, Buffy.
Speaker: But yeah, she does.
Speaker: Yeah, of course.
Speaker: So you kind of know this is all a trap.
Speaker: She goes in.
Speaker: Willow's not there.
Speaker: Surprise, surprise.
Speaker: And then you see creepy Fritz Whedon again.
Speaker: Fritz Sweden.
Speaker: I love it.
Speaker: That is the best thing ever.
Speaker: We need to put that on IMDB.
Speaker: We need to change that somehow.
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: Fritz Sweden.
Speaker: Serial killer.
Speaker: So he's, yeah, he's turned on the shower and he's decided to put some live wires in there.
Speaker: Buffy who's you know wants to save the environment goes to turn off the shower and then gets fortunately for her warning from Dave yeah so he's got a conscience clearly he's like you know get out
Speaker: But it's too late.
Speaker: She gets a little electric shock.
Speaker: Well, I say little, but she's thrown... She's fucking launched across the room.
Speaker: Yeah, just a slight one.
Speaker: No lasting damage by the looks of it, remarkably.
Speaker: Yeah, it's just some burning feet.
Speaker: Oh, no.
Speaker: And then back in the lab, we see Dave telling the computer that he can't do it.
Speaker: So obviously, it's trying to manipulate him and he just...
Speaker: We hear this thing again about, you know, I can give you everything.
Speaker: All I want is your love.
Speaker: So it's like, oh, we're back to 14, 18 now with Carlo.
Speaker: Yeah, it's dodgy.
Speaker: This is actually very sad.
Speaker: It is because he stands his ground.
Speaker: He refuses again.
Speaker: And that's when it's actually a very creepy scene.
Speaker: The computer starts.
Speaker: composing what looks like a suicide note to his parents and it's like oh god it's very dark yeah it is yeah um so before we go into that very dark place um did you know the actor who plays dave chad linbergh uh was in fast and furious oh i did not know that
Speaker: And not that I've seen it.
Speaker: No, me neither.
Speaker: But I'm just looking at some rather nice pictures of him.
Speaker: Yeah, check that out.
Speaker: Yeah, I was right about Dave.
Speaker: He grew up to be nice.
Speaker: So in real life.
Speaker: But unfortunately in Buffy, Fritz has got plans for him.
Speaker: And then we're back in the library.
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: And Buffy is being modicoddled by...
Speaker: Xander and Giles.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: And Giles is like, you know, saying she's very lucky if it had been anyone else but the Slayer.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Would have been fried, basically.
Speaker: He gets her a cup of tea.
Speaker: Yeah, because, you know.
Speaker: It's adorable.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: A nice British thing to do.
Speaker: It is.
Speaker: It's like, there you go.
Speaker: There's a cup of tea.
Speaker: I love this moment, though, when she's like, tell me the truth.
Speaker: How's my hair?
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: It's to be fair it's no no worse than what mine looks like but it's like it's your best hair ever of course they lie and I love the fact that Giles is like oh yes yes it's fine it's fine as well.
Speaker: I have to give my input here.
Speaker: And then Giles says, I know what's caused this, why Dave would do what he's done.
Speaker: And he explains that Moloch is the corruptor.
Speaker: And he corrupts.
Speaker: Impressionable minds.
Speaker: Yeah, like Dave.
Speaker: And then also in the Dark Ages, they used to bind demons to books.
Speaker: but conveniently he's not in this book anymore so so buffy's quite like you know oh you know you let him out you released him and giles is like no i did not he says i didn't do this that dreadful calendar woman found the book and it was already blank brilliant i love that that dreadful calendar woman oh giles
Speaker: Bless him.
Speaker: He doesn't know what's in him.
Speaker: No.
Speaker: So, yeah, so they're like, so the demon's walking around and we haven't seen this thing with horns or, and they then surmise that the demon is out of the book
Speaker: In the computer.
Speaker: Because Willow scanned the book.
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: And not only that, it's also in every other computer connected to it by a modem.
Speaker: A little modem explanation.
Speaker: This networking stuff is fascinating.
Speaker: These are very big techie words at the time.
Speaker: I mean, I had no idea what a modem was.
Speaker: I still don't really know what a modem is.
Speaker: But yeah, I mean, the...
Speaker: the brain power between the three of them where they're like, well, we'll just delete the folder.
Speaker: We'll search for Willow.
Speaker: And this is like, this is what I would do.
Speaker: I would be useless in this situation.
Speaker: I'd be like, can we just turn the computer off and turn it back on again?
Speaker: See if that does the trick.
Speaker: So, yeah, so they're all like, Zander's like, keep your distance, be careful.
Speaker: He's not going to fucking reach out and grab her.
Speaker: So, but yeah, I love how the fact that they're like,
Speaker: to buffy yeah you do it buffy yeah you're you're the slayer you can you can turn the screen on and so she's like tapping away willow and then she so i have to admit this wasn't like she's frightened by this but it wasn't very scary you see the demon's pixelated face pixel the pixel monster
Speaker: Saying, leave Willow alone.
Speaker: Yeah, and Buffy's response was like, ugh.
Speaker: It just wasn't very... I mean, of all the amazing screams that we've had in all the previous episodes, this was disappointing.
Speaker: So it does actually... I think that this particular bit, this is what gets me.
Speaker: I'm like, oh, God.
Speaker: Cringe.
Speaker: So...
Speaker: I love this exchange, though, where they run through a list of all the damaging things that the demon can do from inside the computer network.
Speaker: And the last thing Buffy says is, you know, access launch codes for nuclear missiles.
Speaker: And then Giles chips in with destroy the world's economy.
Speaker: And Buffy's like, I think I pretty much capped it with that nuclear missile thing.
Speaker: And Giles is like...
Speaker: All right, yours was best.
Speaker: It's all right, you win.
Speaker: But it's the one he says before, he's like, oh, mess up traffic lights.
Speaker: It's like, how fucking random is that?
Speaker: And Xander, who started all this by asking, you know, is it really that bad?
Speaker: He's like, okay, he's a threat.
Speaker: I'm on board with that.
Speaker: Like, just, you know, give it a rest, guys.
Speaker: Stop bickering.
Speaker: Stop, you know.
Speaker: Hello, I am here.
Speaker: But, yeah.
Speaker: So, yeah, I think this scene is just... Buffy's like, oh, I'll delete Willow's folder.
Speaker: It's great.
Speaker: It's dated.
Speaker: But in a good way.
Speaker: Buffy's going to go and check.
Speaker: She's looking for Dave and she says to Xander and Giles to ring Willow.
Speaker: Yeah, see if she's at home, call the house.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: So Buffy goes to the lab and yeah, all the computers just sort of turn on by themselves, except, well, it's not really by themselves.
Speaker: It's obviously a demonic influence.
Speaker: But yeah, this is a very disturbing bit.
Speaker: I mean, we've had lots of deaths of students and staff already in the previous seven episodes, but this one is like, oh...
Speaker: It's sad.
Speaker: It's sad, yeah.
Speaker: Buffy literally bumps into Dave, who is swinging.
Speaker: With the note printed off.
Speaker: Yeah, it's like stapled onto him, which is horrible.
Speaker: I mean, I say like tastefully done, as tastefully done as it can be, given...
Speaker: what the scene is.
Speaker: They don't show too much.
Speaker: It's just sort of, it's not too gruesome, but it's still disturbing.
Speaker: It's clearly not an actual person.
Speaker: It's definitely a dummy as well.
Speaker: So I think that's what sort of, I don't know.
Speaker: I think for me, this scene isn't as well done as it could be.
Speaker: So Buffy walks in and there is no way that she would not have seen.
Speaker: Yeah, I didn't get that.
Speaker: Yeah, I'll be honest with you, this scene is very, considering how serious it is, I don't think they did a very good job here.
Speaker: Yeah, because I was like, why are we only seeing this now?
Speaker: Yeah, they sort of rushed past it.
Speaker: It just didn't work.
Speaker: So Buffy goes back to the library, updates Giles and Xander about Dave being dead.
Speaker: And they've had no answer at Willow's house in the meantime.
Speaker: But Willow, I'm sorry, Xander does point out that it rang out the line.
Speaker: So that means she's not online because that's what happened, folks.
Speaker: You could either... That's true, yeah....or go on the internet.
Speaker: But again, in the transcript for this, this whole interaction...
Speaker: There's a lot more about Dave.
Speaker: There's actually, I think there's one line where Giles is actually very, he said, oh, that's awful.
Speaker: He actually says, you know, something about, you know, how it's meant to look like suicide.
Speaker: And it obviously, with a little help from my friends, says Xander.
Speaker: So there's actually a lot more sympathy about, you know, for Dave from them all.
Speaker: Yeah, I think actually the transcript is better than what was on the, on what they finished with, what the final part was.
Speaker: I think the next scene, I mean, again, this is just typical Buffy.
Speaker: They move on really quickly.
Speaker: Buffy takes charge.
Speaker: She says, right, me and Xander, we're going to go and get Willow.
Speaker: And then she says to Giles, you need to sort out how to get a demon out of the internet.
Speaker: And he's like, how the fuck am I going to do that?
Speaker: I don't know how to do it.
Speaker: And she's like, oh, we'll talk to Miss Callender.
Speaker: And you can see he's like, what?
Speaker: Really?
Speaker: Do I have to?
Speaker: How, you know, how am I going to convince her that there's a demon in the internet?
Speaker: And Buffy's like, fine, then you can stay here and come up with a better plan.
Speaker: She's like, just again, being like the boss, she's really sort of like, fine.
Speaker: Okay.
Speaker: Okay.
Speaker: You come up with a better idea then.
Speaker: And we have Giles taking his glasses off here.
Speaker: So it's serious.
Speaker: Can tell it's serious.
Speaker: So, yeah.
Speaker: Buffy's like, I'm going.
Speaker: Come on, Xander.
Speaker: So Giles is stuck there thinking, oh, fuck.
Speaker: I've got to talk to that woman again.
Speaker: That dreadful woman.
Speaker: That dreaded calendar woman.
Speaker: So Willow gets home.
Speaker: And this is the first time we see Willow's house and her room.
Speaker: Yeah, she's calling her parents.
Speaker: They don't seem to be in.
Speaker: And yeah, when she goes to her room, she hears the very famous film title here, You've Got Mail.
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: Coming from her computer.
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: And it's Malcolm saying, I want you to see me.
Speaker: No more waiting, which is very forceful.
Speaker: Okay, Malcolm.
Speaker: She does the right thing again by ignoring him and turns off the screen.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: But then it starts up again of its own accord with another you have mail.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Oh God, worst nightmare.
Speaker: It is a bit freaky, isn't it?
Speaker: Where it's like, oh, why is this computer not turning off?
Speaker: Why is this computer not doing what I want it to do?
Speaker: This sounds like my life.
Speaker: It's demons, just blame it on demons There's a demon in the internet And then Unfortunately for Willow there is Fritz Whedon at the door
Speaker: Yeah, you just know when the doorbell rings like, oh, no, you might not want to answer that.
Speaker: Yeah, it's not good.
Speaker: The classic thing where she answers and sees nobody turns around and then, yeah, Fritz comes up behind her, puts his hand over her mouth and he says, no more waiting.
Speaker: Yeah, with some chloroform just to finish it off.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Now, talking about Mr. Whedon, the very next scene, it starts on this lovely old radio that Giles is listening to.
Speaker: And the news reporter who's talking about all the computer issues that are occurring in the financial side, the...
Speaker: serial killer profiles being downloaded was like, oh, God.
Speaker: The actual news reporter, the voice, and I know you asked this, it is in fact Joss Whedon.
Speaker: So now everyone thinks, even IMDb says this is the only time that Joss Whedon featured in Buffy.
Speaker: And yes, he never actually was in it.
Speaker: And this is the only time he speaks in it.
Speaker: But there is one other occurrence where you hear Joss Whedon in the series and it's coming up in season two.
Speaker: So I will point it out when we get there.
Speaker: There we go.
Speaker: But yes, we have Giles doing his research in his little office.
Speaker: And is this the first time we see his office?
Speaker: I think, is that where he was when Buffy comes in, in Never Kill a Boy on the first date to kind of sit where she's rambling going, okay, so, you know, I'm not needed tonight.
Speaker: Thanks.
Speaker: Bye.
Speaker: And she doesn't give him a chance to speak.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Yes, actually.
Speaker: I think that's the office.
Speaker: And also teacher's pet.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: So, okay.
Speaker: Ignore me.
Speaker: This is just another lovely moment with Giles' office.
Speaker: And Jenny, Ms.
Speaker: Callender, knocks on the door and walks in.
Speaker: He's stumbling through having to tell her
Speaker: that, you know, something is, well, it's inside.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: And then he sort of stops and sort of goes, oh, fuck it.
Speaker: I just need to say, there's a demon on the internet.
Speaker: And she amazingly says, I know.
Speaker: I was like, commercial break.
Speaker: Da, da, da.
Speaker: So yeah, fast forward through all the commercials.
Speaker: So Buffy and Xander arrive at Willow's house and they see the email that Malcolm supposedly sent and they basically decide they need to go to CRD.
Speaker: And we have this sort of thing again where it's back and forth a lot.
Speaker: Yeah, so we go back to Jenny and Giles having a discussion.
Speaker: Yeah, he's like, you already know.
Speaker: Yeah, and he's like, oh, what do you know?
Speaker: And Jenny's like, oh, there have been signs for days, power surges, all of this.
Speaker: Yeah, he asks if she's a witch.
Speaker: This bit makes me cringe.
Speaker: Which is like, techno-pagan.
Speaker: I don't have that.
Speaker: Oh, no, that was it.
Speaker: No, I don't have that kind of power.
Speaker: More techno-pagan.
Speaker: And it's like, oh, God.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: We'll see.
Speaker: I love it because this is the moment where he gets very excited and sees her in a whole new light.
Speaker: You can see the moment.
Speaker: He's like, oh, techno pig.
Speaker: He's like, oh, well, you can help me then.
Speaker: But yeah, she actually also knows.
Speaker: She's like, oh, it's a mischief demon maybe.
Speaker: And he says, well, it's Moloch.
Speaker: And she's like, oh, the Corruptor.
Speaker: So she's got the knowledge, which, of course, is going to be tick boxes for Giles.
Speaker: Yeah, dream woman.
Speaker: Absolutely.
Speaker: She is the dream woman.
Speaker: And I love the fact she still calls him snobby.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: And he then says, okay, you can help me then.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: So she sits down at the computer to help.
Speaker: And then Buffy calls to update him on what's going on.
Speaker: I love how he holds the chair out for her.
Speaker: yeah perfect gentleman proper gent yeah Jenny's going to help get Moloch back into the book Buffy rings updates Giles with Willow's whereabouts and where they are so they're now at CRD Willow has been taken well Giles then updates Buffy says right you know yes we're working on getting Moloch out of the internet and I love it she's like here's a tip hurry
Speaker: I love it.
Speaker: It's great.
Speaker: Fantastic.
Speaker: We're inside CRD.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: With Willow.
Speaker: She's just coming to.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: She comes around.
Speaker: She's surrounded by, I don't know, are they modems or something?
Speaker: Lots of wires and technical shit, basically.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: She comes face to face with Moloch, who is, well, he looks like a big old robot.
Speaker: A fucking robot.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah, he's a fucking robot.
Speaker: He's huge.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: And he's all metal with horns.
Speaker: And Fritz is there too, but he doesn't last very long.
Speaker: Fritz Whedon.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: And then the random.
Speaker: They needed to make up the numbers.
Speaker: So they invited this guy along.
Speaker: Here we are.
Speaker: Put this white coat on.
Speaker: Yeah, I was like, who is this guy?
Speaker: Have I missed a whole scene here where it explains who he is?
Speaker: Yeah, who's this?
Speaker: So he's like, oh, dude, I thought it was like a party.
Speaker: So yeah, he's some random.
Speaker: And Fritz gets his neck broken by Moloch.
Speaker: Charming, that twisty head thing.
Speaker: Oh, dear.
Speaker: How sad.
Speaker: Never mind.
Speaker: Let's move on.
Speaker: So bye, Fritz Whedon.
Speaker: Nothing but trouble.
Speaker: Buffy and Xander jump over that fence and Xander sort of takes himself out by landing really badly, breaking into the back of CRD, which, of course, there's all these security cameras, so Moloch knows exactly where they are.
Speaker: and then we're into the last act so this is when we get these chop and changing scenes which we're never very good at explaining or walking through we just get stuck on certain bits yeah so you have Giles and Jenny in the library they're starting the binding spell which involves forming that circle of Calus again and lighting lots of mood candles yeah
Speaker: Jenny's got another thing going off here she has yeah she knows what she's doing and you have you have Moloch telling Willow that he wants to repay her for getting him out of the book so we have this the whole thing again of promising somebody everything if they get their love
Speaker: But she rejects him.
Speaker: She's not having this now.
Speaker: Yeah, she's seen the light.
Speaker: Yeah, you're not Malcolm.
Speaker: You're not what I had in mind at all.
Speaker: You come in a medal.
Speaker: And Buffy and Xander turning up.
Speaker: And I love how Buffy just completely decks the guy.
Speaker: Yeah, just doesn't even think about it.
Speaker: No.
Speaker: Straight out.
Speaker: But they end up locked in a room.
Speaker: It all kind of shuts down on them.
Speaker: and then gas or something yeah yeah very disturbing and we're back back and forth uh doing the the binding spell so jenny's like you read i'll type and i love that he has to kind of tell her how to spell calus properly it's a k with a k
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: Brilliant.
Speaker: So there's magic going on, obviously, online.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: But there's also magic going on in the library.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: But I've got, thinking about it, and I wonder if they were going to expand on this and they didn't, because we've had Giles do the casting in Witch.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: And he said it was his first, which we know he's lying.
Speaker: And then he does this again and he really gets into it.
Speaker: He does.
Speaker: And I'm wondering, I don't know.
Speaker: I mean, I know obviously Jenny was doing the circle triangle.
Speaker: Was it a triangle?
Speaker: No, circle.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Circle thing online.
Speaker: And she's typing all of his words and everything.
Speaker: But it's him saying it.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: I don't know.
Speaker: It feels like.
Speaker: Moloch was bound by what he was saying, not... Do you know what I mean?
Speaker: Yeah, I got that impression.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: So I wonder if they were hinting on the fact that he was going to be quite powerful, you know, witch-wise, magic-wise rather.
Speaker: If they weren't, then that's disappointing.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah, I mean, they do in much, much later on in the comics, they do bring this a little more to the fore for his character.
Speaker: But yeah, it just feels like they were setting something up.
Speaker: with Giles' character, which they didn't.
Speaker: And then meanwhile, Buffy's broken in.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Just before Moloch is about to snap Willow's neck with his claw hand.
Speaker: But Giles again is doing the, I command you, and Moloch's screaming with pain.
Speaker: So he's released from the computer, but then Giles and Jenny realise that he's not actually in the book.
Speaker: So the question is, where is he?
Speaker: And then back at the lab, we see that he's actually trapped in this robot's body.
Speaker: And he's not happy about it.
Speaker: He's coming after them.
Speaker: Yeah, he's enraged, isn't he?
Speaker: So I love when Buffy goes to kick him.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: She's like, ow, the guy's made of metal.
Speaker: And Willow hitting him with the fire extinguisher saying, it's your girlfriend.
Speaker: It's what every girl wants to do.
Speaker: So yeah, there's a showdown in the corridor while the computer in the library sparks.
Speaker: It's not the only sparks flying.
Speaker: Sorry.
Speaker: And then Moloch rams his way through the wall, the corridor, takes out Xander with no effort whatsoever, smashes Buffy against the wall, and then Willow saves the fucking day with her fire extinguisher escapade.
Speaker: And then Buffy using her brain again.
Speaker: aligns herself behind the high voltage which I just can't help but think of the song danger danger high voltage Moloch gets high voltage when he punches it so that's the end of Moloch it's the end of Moloch I'm glad it's the end of Moloch yeah
Speaker: He was, I don't know, he was not necessarily like the best baddie.
Speaker: I think the concept of the whole thing is really good, but Moloch was just crap.
Speaker: You could say it was a load of Molochs.
Speaker: You're on form tonight.
Speaker: You are definitely with the wordage.
Speaker: Sarah with the wordage.
Speaker: And then we are on to the best scene.
Speaker: This is my favourite scene of the episode.
Speaker: Is this your favourite scene?
Speaker: I will say that my favourite scene is another scene between these two from earlier on.
Speaker: I think it's the moment where, I mean, all their scenes are amazing, but I think it's the moment where he realises that Jenny is...
Speaker: Going to be helpful to him.
Speaker: He gets very excited.
Speaker: They team up and become the dream team.
Speaker: That's my favourite scene.
Speaker: Right.
Speaker: I know it's kind of a back and forth scene, but that particular part of it.
Speaker: He sees the light.
Speaker: He does.
Speaker: Well, this one is my favourite scene where...
Speaker: I have to say that I've never actually really understood what they were talking about.
Speaker: And I thought, well, it must be some adult thing that I had no idea.
Speaker: Well, they were talking about corkscrews and dangling it from an ear and stuff.
Speaker: I was like, the fuck are they talking about?
Speaker: weird sexual thing but it is actually an earring that returns and it is actually a corkscrew earring which I never even saw again because well Jenny's in the room and Giles enters the room I mean I'm not going to pay any attention but this whole thing where she's like welcome to my world
Speaker: And he's like, I'm remaining calm, thank you.
Speaker: Sexual tension.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Oh my word.
Speaker: And she's asking him, what is it that's so scary about computers?
Speaker: I love it.
Speaker: Yeah, you love this whole speech.
Speaker: Yeah, I think this is potentially the moment I completely fell in love with Rupert Giles.
Speaker: I was like, fuck, this guy just knows exactly what I mean, what I'm on about.
Speaker: But yeah, it's the smell.
Speaker: Books have to be tangible.
Speaker: I think I could potentially quote this, but I won't.
Speaker: We'll just listen to it instead.
Speaker: Smell is the most powerful trigger to the memory there is.
Speaker: A certain flower or a whiff of smoke can bring up experiences long forgotten.
Speaker: Books smell musty and rich.
Speaker: The knowledge gained from a computer is... It has no texture, no context.
Speaker: It's there and then it's gone.
Speaker: If it's to last, then the getting of knowledge should be tangible.
Speaker: It should be smelly.
Speaker: This man.
Speaker: Oh, he takes his glasses off.
Speaker: Everything.
Speaker: Dream both.
Speaker: And Jenny is... She's on the same level.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: And she's constantly checking him out while he's talking through this as well.
Speaker: She is.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: It's like she...
Speaker: It's like she has seen him as a bit of a challenge, you know, and she's cracked him now.
Speaker: Well, I think what it is, I think she's thought this guy, she's obviously attracted to him and she can't figure it out.
Speaker: And then she realises that
Speaker: Well, before she realises, she then realises that he's won her over just by being himself.
Speaker: And he's not fully aware of it until she's like, it's not where I dangle it.
Speaker: And he's like, oh, the fuck?
Speaker: Were we flirting?
Speaker: So, but yeah, I mean, for a team programme, it's like, oh, okay.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: And he's kind of, he's, he's, that look says so much.
Speaker: I just love that in general.
Speaker: I know a lot of people say it about him as an actor anyway, that he can just do so much with his face without having to say an awful lot, but that's really, that's so many things in one.
Speaker: Like he's, he's actually quite impressed when she says that as well as a bit like, Oh, okay then.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah, he's like, oh, okay.
Speaker: But he's feeling the heat as well.
Speaker: And the last scene, I think this scene is great where they're like, oh, we're doomed.
Speaker: um we'll never have happy normal relationships uh so and yeah i love the house they're just such good friends in this scene yes the way willow is like you know beating herself up for falling for a demon essentially and buffy's like well you know the guy i like as a vampire and then xander fell for a praying mantis so
Speaker: Yeah, it's like, you know, don't worry.
Speaker: You're in good company here.
Speaker: So, yeah, it's a great, and then it's just their awkward faces afterwards.
Speaker: They're like, we are actually fucked.
Speaker: This is not going to go well.
Speaker: And Buffy with her sunglasses again, they turn up again.
Speaker: I do like, I mean, there's some fantastic scenes, but Moloch ruins it for me.
Speaker: Yeah, he's not a great antagonist, really.
Speaker: No.
Speaker: So your favourite scene was the bit where Giles, well, where Jenny says, I'm a techno-pagan.
Speaker: He's like, what?
Speaker: Give me some of that, please.
Speaker: Keep talking to me.
Speaker: Your best line?
Speaker: I think for me...
Speaker: It is when Giles says, well, it's kind of a two, there's two parts.
Speaker: Yeah, I'll be back in the Middle Ages.
Speaker: And Jenny says, did you ever leave?
Speaker: Oh, the sass.
Speaker: I love her.
Speaker: I love her.
Speaker: Mine is the whole monologue that he says about the smell.
Speaker: I just love it.
Speaker: I just melt.
Speaker: In fact, do you know what the whole episode, we could just fast forward to that if that's okay.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah, that's fine.
Speaker: What's your favorite outfit?
Speaker: I wasn't sure about this because I'm, I'm hopeless at paying attention, but it actually, when, when we got to the scene with the dark glasses and the trench coat, I think I'd have to go with that.
Speaker: Cement.
Speaker: It's great.
Speaker: It is.
Speaker: Like she's straight out of a detective show.
Speaker: It is.
Speaker: And I love the humor involved where she's kind of like, oh yeah.
Speaker: So, you know, I should just wear that.
Speaker: And then it's like, she did.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah, I think there's some really not, I mean, I've pointed out a few of the costume.
Speaker: I think Jenny's leather jacket with white top.
Speaker: Simple, but simple yet effective.
Speaker: Very effective.
Speaker: That is how you catch librarians.
Speaker: Mm-hmm.
Speaker: That and corkscrews.
Speaker: And corkscrews.
Speaker: Don't forget that corkscrew.
Speaker: I thought Xander, his shirt, like his overshirt was really nice as well.
Speaker: So, yeah, some nice wardrobe moments.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Buffy's kill count?
Speaker: I think it's just Moloch.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: There are some other killings, but not at the hands of Buffy.
Speaker: No, it's Moloch, isn't it?
Speaker: Moloch snaps several necks.
Speaker: But this is actually Buffy's first non-vampire kill.
Speaker: So it's the first demon that she kills.
Speaker: Is that why you're always cleaning your glasses?
Speaker: So you don't have to see what we're doing?
Speaker: Tell Noah.
Speaker: How many times does Giles remove his glasses?
Speaker: He doesn't clean them, I don't think.
Speaker: He doesn't, no.
Speaker: And he doesn't make it straightforward either.
Speaker: So I've counted three, but you don't always, it's not a straightforward thing where you see him take them off and put them back on.
Speaker: Sometimes they're already off.
Speaker: And so the first time.
Speaker: Oh, it was in the background, wasn't it?
Speaker: Yeah, it was in the background of a scene.
Speaker: And then the second time... When Buffy and Xander come in.
Speaker: and they're off to find or hunt down Willow.
Speaker: Yeah, and Giles is horrified about asking for... You want me to talk to that awful calendar woman again?
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: And just to add as a side note, not that this will surprise anybody, but he looks so good in that scene.
Speaker: He does.
Speaker: So good.
Speaker: Just saying.
Speaker: Has to be said.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: And then the last time is when he's doing his...
Speaker: When he's melting hearts in the last scene.
Speaker: And it works to great effect.
Speaker: It does.
Speaker: So you can tell Jenny has completely and utterly 100% hunk line and sinker?
Speaker: That works.
Speaker: What is it?
Speaker: Hook line and sinker.
Speaker: Hunk line and sinker.
Speaker: Hunk line and sinker.
Speaker: Hunk line and glasses.
Speaker: A vision in tweed.
Speaker: Indeed.
Speaker: Indeed.
Speaker: Do I need to ask who your favourite character is?
Speaker: I'm just, yeah, I'm going to say Jenny.
Speaker: I was tempted to say Giles, but well, the two of them are fantastic.
Speaker: But yeah, because Jenny is new and she just, she really does make an impression.
Speaker: She really just, she brings so much to this episode.
Speaker: Like if she was not involved, it would definitely have been a lesser episode.
Speaker: Oh my God.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Without a doubt.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: She just, she really adds a spark, a big spark.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: I've actually got a tidbit about Jenny Callender and the actress.
Speaker: So when she went for the audition for, well, Nikki Callender, she turned up and she didn't really know the show.
Speaker: Oh, I know this.
Speaker: I think I can tell you about this.
Speaker: But, yeah, so she knew it was a teen show and she knew that she was playing a teacher and
Speaker: And they would say it was the first scene where she's talking to Giles and Giles is like, of course, hating her.
Speaker: And she didn't know the context because, of course, you know, these these readings, they don't have the whole episode or anything.
Speaker: And she didn't know who Anthony Head was, but he was there.
Speaker: He was at the reading.
Speaker: And she thought, oh, he's just, you know, one of the production reading the lines, which again is not an uncommon thing.
Speaker: So she thought that his character was a student and
Speaker: So she spoke to him in such disdain, just like with no patience whatsoever, anything, exactly what you get basically.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: And then he's going back and forth.
Speaker: And, and it was that they were like, we've really, and they, the chemistry between them that, that got her the, the, the part.
Speaker: Brilliant.
Speaker: So, yeah.
Speaker: So it was, I love that.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: I think it was nice.
Speaker: I would love to have been a fly on the wall for that moment.
Speaker: Yeah, it's lovely to hear those, you know, sort of the audition, you know, how they come about and what have you.
Speaker: But yeah, and I believe that was, I'd say, like the only time that she went in.
Speaker: So she was cast just off the back of one reading.
Speaker: But it was, you know, obviously the sparks were flying in the...
Speaker: In the audition room.
Speaker: But I think my favourite character then, I know I've been literally talking about Jenny all the time, but because you've said it's Jenny, for you, I'm going to say Giles is my favourite.
Speaker: And you need to give him a turn because... I know.
Speaker: Yeah, it's episode eight and I haven't actually said it's Giles yet.
Speaker: I don't know if you've heard it for me.
Speaker: So, but yeah, I think the pairing are just brilliant.
Speaker: It's hard to pick between them.
Speaker: They're a great duo.
Speaker: They really are.
Speaker: And it just makes you want to see more.
Speaker: Which we will.
Speaker: Which fortunately we will.
Speaker: But not for a while now though.
Speaker: We've got a few episodes before we see Ms.
Speaker: Callender again.
Speaker: But yeah, it's not my favourite episode but there are some favourite moments.
Speaker: It's where my love affair for Jenny Callender began.
Speaker: And indeed, Giles's.
Speaker: Oh, yes.
Speaker: But, yeah, safe to say I fancied her before he fancied her, I think.
Speaker: I was just like, wow.
Speaker: Who was this woman?
Speaker: Who was there first?
Speaker: You're a trendsetter.
Speaker: Yeah, absolutely.
Speaker: So, yeah, I need to sort of break this secret to my husband now and say, you know that lady who
Speaker: I'm actually saying that in the watch, because he's only ever seen the show once, which, you know, we won't hold it against him.
Speaker: He was like, yeah, Johnny Callender's all right.
Speaker: But he's got more of a man crush on Giles.
Speaker: Oh, that's good.
Speaker: He won't admit it, but he does.
Speaker: It's hard to hide these things.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: But it's when we start to see Giles' flat and his car.
Speaker: He's got very Art Deco tastes.
Speaker: Anyway, well, we're on to the next episode.
Speaker: The puppet show.
Speaker: Oh, the puppet show.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: I said I love Sid.
Speaker: See I like I can't help it I know it's a cliche to say this but it's just fucking ventriloquist dummies creep me out so that is that really does color things for me although it is very clever how they how they do the whole thing that's all I will say without spoiling it.
Speaker: So you feel like Buffy then you you have the same opinion as Buffy.
Speaker: I do.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: A friend of mine has a ventriloquist dummy from the 30s.
Speaker: So essentially it is Sid.
Speaker: He's got a white shirt instead of a red shirt.
Speaker: And we went to see them a few years ago and they've moved back.
Speaker: and they had all sorts out and this dummy was sat on the top of a wardrobe when we walked in I was like fuck so I just sent this picture to all of my Buffy friends
Speaker: And they were like, fuck, it's Sid.
Speaker: I was like, yeah, I know.
Speaker: But yeah, I had to move his head so he didn't look at us.
Speaker: It's like, oh no, I can't cope with that.
Speaker: But yeah, I think this is, I'm going to look forward to watching this with you.
Speaker: I think it's going to be funny.
Speaker: I will look forward to it and dread it in equal measure.
Speaker: Oh, no.
Speaker: I can't do spiders.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: Ventriloquist dummies and clowns.
Speaker: Those are my two.
Speaker: Oh, okay.
Speaker: Oh, well, we get both of those then.
Speaker: Don't we?
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: All in season one.
Speaker: Yeah, I'm just trying to think.
Speaker: So you've said Never Kill a Boy on the first date is your favourite thus far.
Speaker: I think yeah it is a great episode but I love Witch I think it's such a good episode and yeah the next one which would be my second is Nightmares which we've not come to yet so I cannot wait to watch that so it was just too soon it was the wrong season for it in my opinion
Speaker: Anyway, we're digressing.
Speaker: That is all to come.
Speaker: We're skipping ahead.
Speaker: So, well, thank you so much to all of you.
Speaker: for tuning in.
Speaker: Yes, we've got some new listeners as well.
Speaker: Hello.
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: Since the last time we recorded.
Speaker: Yeah.
Speaker: So I hope you enjoy.
Speaker: It's lovely to meet you and particularly online.
Speaker: Please do send us your thoughts.
Speaker: We really do appreciate it.
Speaker: Actually, talking about episodes, and of course, we're going to be re-watching the episodes from season one.
Speaker: But we also will have a very different episode coming up.
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: Where we will have a guest appearance or guest appearances where we will discuss the fandom of Buffy and in particular fan fiction.
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: And then also fan art.
Speaker: So one particular guest will be the artist Ghost Rabbit who has done
Speaker: an amazing job with all of the watercolor art pieces um that you can see on our social media um so and please do continue to to show your appreciation for her and follow her and reshare and like and
Speaker: comment yeah I mean the amount of time and work that goes into these paintings is incredible so we're very very grateful for it yeah saying that though it's amazing where we'll we'll go oh what about this episode what about this scene and then in like 24 hours she's like okay there you go it's like really yeah
Speaker: Yeah, it's amazing.
Speaker: It's super quick.
Speaker: I mean, compared to what I would be able to manage, it would be weeks.
Speaker: And it's worth mentioning as well that Mr. Anthony Head has also shown his appreciation for her artwork because he's got great taste in art, clearly.
Speaker: Yes.
Speaker: So I'm delighted about that.
Speaker: That's well deserved.
Speaker: We're doing like a side by side of each scene and it's amazing, you know, how detailed, how accurate.
Speaker: uh ghost rabbits managed to get her her her interpretation of it even the light you know the colors and it's fantastic it's brilliant so so yes so we will be chatting to to her and then also another guest as well so yeah so watch this space that will be um part of this season's uh episode list
Speaker: So in the meantime, follow us on social media if you're not already.
Speaker: So that is previously on Buffy.

Speaker: Yep.

Speaker: So did you enjoy this episode?
Speaker: What was your favourite scene?
Speaker: Did we get it completely wrong with the sexual tension or Buffy's outfit?
Speaker: So yeah, please do let us know because it's what it's all about.
Speaker: Exactly.
Speaker: So thanks again for listening and we will see you next time.
Speaker: Next time on previously on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Speaker: Full disclosure, I have a bit of a fear of ventriloquist dummies.
Speaker: What is consistent throughout the whole episode is Giles' complete despair.
Speaker: We're only in the first scene and we already have him removing his glasses.
Speaker: He's just like, I don't know what else to do with my life right now.
Speaker: They're there to completely, utterly just mock him.
Speaker: Ripped the shit out of him.
Speaker: And they're like, here he is, the great producer.
Speaker: Thanks for listening to previously on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
