Analysis of Crystal Palace Defeat

00:00:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
My name is Rob Binns and unfortunately I'm flying solo today as we look back on the crushing defeat at Selhurst Park to Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.
00:00:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Once again, it's a game where we didn't we didn't play badly. it was an even game between the two, but the opposition's been the one who's gone and found their way over that line to get three points, and it's a big hurt for us, especially given that the Wolves draw against Everton that happened a couple of hours after full-time in our game. But on today's episode, the usual Monday match reaction sort stuff. We're going to dive through this or have a quick click through some of the chances of the game, sort of.
00:01:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
How how can could it have played out any differently? you know, some of the opportunities we had because there was a few more than the normal game from our point of view, definitely. So there's some opportunities there. as but So we'll talk about maybe what some of the problems were, but it's pretty much the same problems as it always was. and but So before I get into that, I'll give you the raw reaction. That links into that point there that just said it I've said it once already. It wasn't a bad performance. We we matched a very...
00:01:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think you've got put in the context the form Palace are in recently that one of the, particularly sort of away from home gets a lot of praise, but they are good at home as well. But they've been flying in recent weeks. they've Their form is one of the best in the league in the last so five games or so.
00:01:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
It was always going to be a tough place to go. We said in the week building up that it's a very different Palace side from the one that came to Portland Road and we really felt we had to go and beat in November, December, whenever that game was.
00:02:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's very different set-up now. Obviously, a't go they're going more confident on the home and pitch than they were coming to Portman

Decisive Moments and Challenges

00:02:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Road as well. that It was set to be a really, really tough game, but even without them having Mateta up front, who obviously is flying at the moment.
00:02:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
But it was going to be tough. And we matched them. It was a very even game overall. So shots were similar. Possession wasn't that far apart.
00:02:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
even to chances, both teams had multiple good opportunities to open the score. And it sort of looked destined to be a bit of a nil-nil. So both teams were struggling to put the ball in the back of the net. Both keepers were playing well.
00:02:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Really wasn't much between the two sides. But as it and goes in these sort of games, that someone's got to take up, produce a bit of quality to win the game.
00:02:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
And that's what Sarr did. Yeah, sort of lucky the ball, how the ball got to his feet. He benefited off a ricochet, but the turn of pace to get him behind and the dingo Palmer is brilliant. so mcke I think Kieran McKenna said he showed us the level, which has happened in a few games this year, that so closely contested. And someone said, ultimately, it's one of the Palace players that has produced a moment of quality to decide it and what would have been a nailed on nil-nil based on how the rest of the game had gone if he'd not just switched it on in that little passage of play.
00:03:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
to score what was a very well-taken goal. Look, he's took his element of luck from the ricochet, run with it, and turned it into a very good goal. So credit to him. But it's hard. mean, McKenna described it as a sickening result in his post-match press conference. And that's pretty much the perfect way to describe it, really. Because, like I say, it's competed.
00:03:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
It could have so easily gone either way. But that's that's been the problem, hasn't it? How many games... we this season. So we've sat down on a Monday reaction for this podcast and say, play quite well, pick the positives out of it.
00:04:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
So not a bad game, could't and could have gone our way on another day, but and how many times, it just doesn't, does it? Ultimately, we don't get these ones over the line. And there's 10 games to go that people Some people won't be happy with me for for what i'm about to say, because obviously there's They'll be a lot more positive than I am. But we in the way I look at it, we are down.
00:04:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
The gap is six points now. And I just don't see... Yes, we've got Wolves to play still, but without that's a guarantee. That'll be three points if we won that one. Guaranteed that weekend to get it back. And there's the gap's still three points there. And the way we're going at the moment, the reason this result is sickening is because we've seen it all before.
00:04:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
The reason,

Performance vs Results: A Persistent Issue

00:04:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think for me, I've seen enough to now... know that we will end up going down at the end of the season. And it's because we don't win in games like this. We haven't done all year.
00:05:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
So whether it's a lack of quality issue, it's certainly not a lack of work ethic that we see in these of games. The lads are putting shifts in. so mo they Maybe it's lack it to say like a lack of quality, lack of depth is another problem we've had of we've had before. But ultimately, look at it, the way it goes, that These sort of games, these tight ones could go either way. we and The opposition go and find a way to win and we don't.
00:05:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
that's that's That's the big problem and that's for me why I can't see six points being overturned now even in even with 30 left to play for. say some people People are a lot more positive than me. We're looking ahead thinking there's there's still opportunity there and fair play and I wish I thought like that but say in my head you haven't got the benefit of somebody else sitting here. making so I know Tom and James are a lot particularly are a lot more positive than than i than i have been in the last few weeks, but I'm on my own today. So yeah there's no one to battle against me on it. But for me, that' is why that's that's the problem. Games like games like Saturday afternoon are the reason why we are where we are in the league because we don't go and grind out the results.
00:06:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
I've said it all year. We don't have that. It's a grind out of horrible, ugly 1-0 win we Or even a 2-1 win. we don't we We did it at Wolves.
00:06:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
that And you thought that was the confidence boost. that We'd go and get some of these games. But it's turned out to be an outlier. very like It's so such a 50-50 game, I thought, on Saturday.
00:06:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
And we didn't... Yes, obviously, there's a bit of luck involved in there, obviously. though Sometimes you win you don't produce quality to win these games like Sard did. Sometimes you do just get a hit a deflection, like the SA one, for example, didn't go in in the end, but that was 1-0 and that big deflection. Sometimes that's what you need, but you also don't seem to get that luck when you're down the bottom. was thinking pinball and the penalty area, which at one point, they just seemed to never drop cleanly enough to fill a gene to let him put it in the back of the net.
00:07:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah that There's elements of luck in there, but how many of these sort games that either have been close if you you go into expect i thinking a performance is needed something of some of the home games or how many games are actually just how many times do we sit and play well but we lose that's the problem for me that it feels like a weekly routine now on this podcast to sit down on a monday and there seems to be there's plenty of positives to pick out in a lot of weeks there's not and there's not in some weeks some weeks are obviously better than others but
00:07:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
i've been it I feel like I've been in this exact situation i am I'm in now, reflecting on a weekend's game that I'm looking at and sort of wondering, I don't feel bad about the performance, but we don't win. And quite frankly, we're at the point in the season that's not good enough anymore.
00:08:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah ah good A good decent performance doesn't get a result is not good enough when you're six points adrift in March.

Impact of Injuries and Key Players

00:08:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah It has to be results or nothing, if they say it.
00:08:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
A terrible performance that you get 1-0 because it flicks off someone's backside and goes in the other corner. That's what you need at this point. it's not pretty, but playing well and losing the game still is not acceptable in March for what were for where we need to be.
00:08:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
And that's that's the problem, isn't it? We don't get these results over the line through luck or through whatever for a variety of reasons. and that's what and That's what we look back on. so This game is highlighted especially here, but It's been so many times that year for me and say sickening is the it's the perfect word in the way McKenna's put it because you just sort of felt the later the game went on because of the pattern the season's gone as well you sort of knew the longer it stayed nil-nil the more it became about keeping it nil-nil because you knew we weren't going score.
00:09:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
i Again there'll be people far more positive than me that have been sat there sort of in maybe not anticipation but in hope that a goal was coming but in my head I knew what Once we got past 70, 75 minutes, it became about holding on to 0-0 because I was like, we don't score this late in games. I mean, we've done it twice or something all season, past the 75th minute, something like that.
00:09:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
You just know that once we get late in the game, it became about holding on for the draw. And that's where the problem was because it shouldn't be that. It should be and should be holding out the hope for a winner. But I've seen so much. over the course the year, to just know at that point that if a team was going to score, was more than likely going to be Palace in that late spell of the game. And unfortunately, they did.
00:09:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
So there was plenty of chances in both teams. Anyone could have nicked it. You never know. But unfortunately, like say, on the day went against us, so a bit of a ricochet and then Sardin, the rest of a bit quality went against us. And that's the problem.
00:10:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Too many games like that. But I'll have a quick break to give him one of the sponsors now. going to come back. I'll dive through some of the key chances and maybe look at... We saw what what was the match winner from Sarr. Maybe there was an opportunity for someone else to have been a match winner in some of the other chances. But we'll dive through them after this.
00:11:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
And welcome back to the second part of your Monday daily Ipswich. let' all Let's run through some of the chances then, because look, particularly from the Ipswich side of things, there were a lot a lot of sites that go a lot more than normal. That was a positive to take from it.
00:11:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Is it probably too late, if we're being honest, but we are starting to create a few more opportunities in games. I mean, United, we struggled, but that's mainly because they stuck everyone behind the ball after the red card. But, you know, Forrest in the Cup, we had a couple of chances that weren't too bad The Spurs game, despite the result, there was so but the chance creation side improved. We had 15 shots, eight on target in this game that we're starting to sort of make the opportunity. So the problem is because it's taken us until February, March time to start having this many opportunities in games, we're not taking because we're almost, it's almost like we're out of practice in front of goal because we've been living off scraps for six months of the season so far. But there were some opportunities. of so
00:11:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Some of the key ones from our side, I mean, Davis, Davis broke down left-hand side, that ball back across, think Filagino's had the shot in the end, done pretty much everything right from his point of view, he struck it well, he found a corner, it's just a really good save from Henderson to tip it wide.
00:12:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
The thing for me on that one was, I don't know if if it depends on what the defender have got across, but for me, that Unciso was coming in from the edge of the box and someone's obviously given a shout there because it looks like he's slowed down to let Philogene have it. I think it probably would have been better if if he wasn't going to end up being too close and let the defender nip in yeah and Cito coming and hitting it on his stride rather than Philogene trying to dig it out of his feet like he did, but which to be fair to him, he'd done very well. He couldn't have done any better from in terms of what he did. he He picked the corner out from a difficult position.
00:12:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Decent pace on It's just a good save from a good goalkeeper on that one. But I was sort thinking, it's only really like, When I watched the replay of it, and then you sort see and see so that just wonder, could he have given a shout and Philogene tried to block the defender and let and see so come across it it would have more of the goal for him a bit more comfortable shot. I don't know, but maybe I'm just put picking holes and various things. We say nothing against Philogene for his efforts there. So a decent strike.
00:13:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
And the see so again, he was, he was fantastic, by the way. I didn't completely forgot to get onto that part of things when I was praising, elements of the performance. But CISO was fantastic, I thought, and considering first game back after an injury as well.
00:13:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, so sharp. hes He was a big loss when he got the injury before. He's he's really looked patient he's looks so up for it, like alive. He runs himself into the ground for the cause, really good on the ball. He's not afraid to take a shot.
00:13:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
he's but He was fantastic in the couple of games he got before picking up an injury. when he first signed and we lost him for a while. And that for me, where I know to counteract pretty much everything I've said in part one of the show, he's, if if we are to overturn this six point gap, I think he's got a massive part to play in it. So from what he looks in because he just adds something that isn't there with anybody else in that sort of, in who plays in those three behind really that, I mean, that chance had in the first half, it was fully self-made. I mean, Philodrine helped with the,
00:14:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
pressing on Eze, sort of turned him into trouble. It was, and Ciso made the tackle. He then put Gahey on his backside, made the chance for himself and hit really good strike that forced good save. that He'd never expect him to score from the angle he hit it from, but he came bloody close. that A worse keeper than Henderson, he could very easily have got it in there, but say he's on good form at the moment and he he dealt with it accordingly. But just that little passage of play for him there, the so the the energy levels to going hound to double up on the press of Philogene already doing some good

Goalkeeping and Defensive Plays

00:14:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
work as well. that The energy to do that, winning the ball back, taking a man on, getting a shot away, getting some good power on it. Like I say, it's just something we've been missing really a lot, especially over the course the season altogether really, that he will have a big role to play in the last 10 games. if Hopefully he hasn't done anything to relapse his injury or anything. If we can get
00:15:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
some involvement from him in all 10 games, then look, we have a better chance than if we and if he misses. then and every In any game he misses, we have a better chance if he plays, definitely. And so things like that, he makes it himself.
00:15:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
And so the first half, so Palace had a couple of chances in the first half as well. And Ketya had a one-on-one, I think. Palmer, who also had a very good game, I thought, made some very big saves. So that was the first one, and that and Ketya won, who...
00:15:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's be honest, that's where they were missing Mateta. and well That's where it was sort of lucky for us. He wasn't able to play in this game because I do think he puts that one away that Nketi had missed early in the first half.
00:16:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
But say a good save from Palmer. He rushed up his line well. There's another one later in the game the second half, think, with Munoz. And I think Davis, it was, who under-hit a back pass. Munoz got in and it gave Palme. It was quick off his line on both occasions, made a very good save. And again,
00:16:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
He just plays a bit of confidence in the back of the net, which we don't really say if we haven't had when Mürich has played. Obviously, Walton's injured. He just seems to command himself a bit better than some of the other options do.
00:16:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think i was I don't know what it is about him. Maybe it is that confidence aspect of it, but it just you just back him from opportunities, which, like I said, both times, seeing players bear down on goal one-on-one just isn't as scary as it was a month ago, a month or so ago, or a couple of months or however long it's been since we signed him, that he sort of, the Munoz one was, I thought we were in trouble there, but he made a good save. I said, like that, and Kettia won in the first half.
00:17:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
What ball from Wharton, by the way, the outside of his boot. But don't know, just never, there was never that confidence there that, obviously, that you think, like in Nketia, that he'd score, you sort of felt,
00:17:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
I felt confident in that Palmer had a good chance of saving. and i wasn't I wasn't in and big fear. I was as fearful as I would have been if it was Mateta. and So partly because, I say, he's a drop-off in the player, but also because the confidence I've got in Palmer that he could have got in there and do something about it, which he did. that And so some those one-on-one saves were really good.
00:17:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's a big element that's been missing. and But again, it's probably an issue of being too late to have that area. Because, say, Palmer, you think back to some of these other tight games, and know on this one we've lost one, and we've lost a tight game anyway, but some of the other ones will be drawn or And you think of the mistakes involved, that had we had a keeper of Palmer's quality all year, how many point how many potential points better off would we be? But that's all ifs, buts and maybes. But there's a couple of opportunities from corners as well in there. mean, like I said, mentioned the one, the pinball in the box already.
00:18:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
the laps header was fairly weak and all honesty, but Henderson spilt it. It just never dropped clean enough for Filledge and it sort bounced onto his knee and it pinged back off Henderson and then it hit him again and Stiles was able to hook it off the line. It never sort of just dropped his feet to lash it at goal. It always just sort of bounced off him, which is, again, that's the sort of luck you don't get down the bottom, isn't it? So if that happens,
00:18:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
cliche, isn't it? So if that that same pinball dropped around the box for a team at the top of the table, they'd score from it. So when you're down the bottom, that these things don't drop for you. It always feels like if it was that way. But Palace have one from a corner as well. The Sarr, I think it was. a So probably the one question mark of Parma all game is that he started coming for that corner. He never looked like he was getting there and a gifted Sarr the opportunity. And luckily for us, he put it wide.
00:18:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think we had another header somewhere. It was at Johnson who had a header at the back post as well. That was a really sort he's got he's got to do better. He's got to hit the target is the key there for me. I don't expect him to score as good as the ball is from Davis. It's not as easy as it is. so much harder than the one he had at Fulham from a similar position, Davis, across to him that he hit the bar on the Fulham one, something like that. But This one was a lot more difficult, I thought, but he's got to be hitting the target. is's He's skewed it well over the bar from a good chance. that don't know whether what he was trying to do so or if he just mis-skewed it, but he's got to In my head, I was thinking he's got to try and come back across the goal there, try catch Henderson out, and he's just sort of skewed it well over.
00:19:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
That was a big opportunity for me, and like I say, these sort of chances we are making now but not taking, which is obviously the step we need to be at. if we go if we're going to pick up as many points as possible and try and survive in the tank and from the 10 games we got left.
00:20:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
and So that was, so that thing of covers pretty much every big chance we had. i think there was a breakaway where it never became a chance. It should have done. We broke well. Clark should have found, and so was it Clark to and see so the way it should have been? They messed the pass up and they broke down. That would have been a good, if they found the pass there, that would have been a very good opportunity put ourselves in front that,
00:20:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Unfortunately, we've ruined these opportunities again. We're not taking them because most things I've listed there have been fairly clear-cut chances that we could have got something from them. So the Johnson one especially was a, to not hit the target was really poor.
00:20:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
say the one of The ones from the corner is unlucky in a way that in CISO one, he worked well for himself, wasn't difficult. So the Philogene one's just a great save. There's not much we could have done there, but to make that many decent opportunities, not put one away through one for whatever the reason is, it's concerning. It's been an issue all year again, hasn't it? The lack of goals, but I'll touch on that more in the third part today's show. And then before we go into that third part, to talk about the goal, look, the ricochet, I've spoke about it briefly already, but the ricochet off Phillips, Phillips wins his tackle on Kamada and the ball just ricochets to the feet of Saar, who,
00:21:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
That element of it is really lucky. and I think McKenna said Phillips thought he was fouled. I'm not sure he was, to be honest. think he's just sort of spotted where the ball was gone and then tried to appeal for a foul. It's just, it's not, it's nothing to do with his tackle. It's just unlucky.
00:21:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Ultimately, it's a ricochet. they It can go anywhere. And on this occasion, it went to the feet. I say that, I've said it a couple of times already, but it's the old cliches. And these things don't go, when you're down the bottom, these things drop against you every time. When you're up the top, they drop for you. They're so bad.
00:21:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Palace are flying at the moment. There's the element of creating your own luck, I suppose. They've been flying recently that are on great form. They're on a sort run where these things just, everything feels like it's just going perfectly for them and that drops their form and they make the most of it and we're quite the opposite and it drops against us and we're punished what for something that was purely luck-based but on that occasion. But obviously it's also the quality from that point on was doesn't drop to him for an open goal. It's the The burst of pace and the finish are sensational from Saar. He's had a fantastic year.

Strategies for Securing Results

00:22:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
And again, it's that quality issue that who have we... So, De Laap probably could produce a similar moment of quality. Hutchinson, maybe, and CISO might have it in locker. But how many times have we sort produced a moment of quality to get a result in a game? So, it's probably De Laap's got one against Fulham and Villa.
00:22:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
couple of goals he scored that There's been a few decent other strikes in there, I suppose, from outside the box maybe, but that's the difference. We don't go and just pull these opportunities out of a ricochet or to have a bit of luck or just seemingly out nowhere. where We don't go to pull these opportunities together and win the games. And that's exactly what Palace did. It's so fantastic take and a fantastic goal, but we're so unlucky on the way that ball goes at the same time that Like I can say, what you've got to take what comes to it. We had enough chances to have already been in front by that point. They might not have meant anything, but it's the way things go. And unfortunately, like I say, this we're used to it now in the most depressing way possible that we're used to just sitting there saying about what could have been rather than than what's actually happened.
00:23:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
And lot of the same issues are the reason for that. It's the reason why it's a similar process and it feels like we've watched that game before. And it's the same old result and same old problems and issues in there that going to dive into after this short message.
00:24:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
We are back for the final part of today's show, but look it was it was a case of the same old problems again on Saturday. I thought that it's the old saying that you do the same things over and over again and expect a different result.
00:24:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
What's that, the definition of stupidity or something like that? And it is the same old problems, and there's only so many times we can sit here and say needs to change. it The window's been and gone in terms of personnel in some areas, which I'll touch on in a minute.

and we' sort of We've got what we've got and we've got to somehow make things have got to change. We've we've somehow got a correct six, seven month old problems that have hurt us so many times. We've we've got to sort something out or we won't overturn that six point gap.
00:24:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's a difference. I mean, I'd say that we don't go and grind these results out. I mean, it's shown literally a couple of hours later, Everton on, just as good a form up there with Palace in terms of the form table in recent weeks. a Very, obviously, difference between Wolves being at home and we're being away. Fairly similar games, really.
00:25:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
And they grinded out one-all draw. Came from behind to do so. We just don't look like we've got those sort of results in us. Like say, Molineux was the one time. and Even then, we were 1-0 up for a decent amount of time, threw it away and massively on the back foot not likely to lose it until we scored the corner. But I'd be dug in, weathered a storm, but that wouldn't have been sustainable to stay and also do that every week, to try and work into suffer for 20 minutes like that and then score 90th minutes. Not sustainable way to do it either. It's a fantastic result.
00:25:50

Probably the biggest result of the season so far, but we've got to take the elements from those sort of performances and start applying them because things have got to change. Like say, 15 shots, eight on target.
00:26:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
spoke about the different opportunities we had. We haven't scored. It's been the big problem all year. We don't score enough goals. Goals win games and we don't get them most weeks. You can't be having as many chances as we did in this game and not putting one away.
00:26:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Or you, like I could say, if you don't score goals, you don't win games. you We seem to be out of luck at the moment in terms of something taking a big deflection and finding its way in. So you've just got finish your chances when you get them and we're not doing it. That's it.
00:26:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
We've solved the sort of chance creation side of things. We're making more chances in games in recent weeks than we have been earlier in the season, but we're not taking them. And that's been part of the problem. And then it's finishing games badly. Again, the goal was in the 82nd minute. I said it earlier that once you get past 70 minutes in a game, it's just, it's about protecting what we've got. You just don't think we're going to score.
00:26:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
And it's because there's nothing to do with thought of the effort levels. and the hard work the players put in, they work their socks off, but that's the problem, that the better players who work do they absolutely do work their socks off, they run themselves tired and they have to come off.
00:27:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
And it's that issue of the lack of depth again that we've got on there, that that we sort of we lose key players and the performance drops.
00:27:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's been an issue all year again. We'd say we've finished it. because of the sort of personnel changes and just touch and general for tiredness because of how hard we work as a team, that from 70 minutes onwards, we're we're not as good of a team as we are in the rest of the game. And we finished games poorly. and And Southampton got equaliser. Wolves, we got a winner.
00:27:49

Two times, we obviously dug in right at the end. Even Forrest in the Cup the other day, we played about 120 minutes. But we just don't do it. I think the difference with Forest is that obviously we had the, because we played a weakened team to start with, we had the quality coming off the bench that we lack in the league game sort of keep that fight going. But again, you sort of know, like I say, a couple of players that come off, it's not, the players that come on are good enough to have an impact on the game, but I don't know what it is.
00:28:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
If it is just the fatigue, because you can only take five players off at most, hes still got six players who working their socks off and maybe a bit tired. I don't know what it is, but we finished games poorly and you sort of feel that if we're not in front by 70 minutes or so, then we won't score.

Conclusion and Preview of Next Episode

Global Sports Podcast Network
Like said, that was nil-nil. I said I wasn't confident we'd get a goal past sort of 70 minutes that I thought anyone was going to score, it was going to be Palace and it was in the end.
00:28:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Again, it's just digging out these results that we don't do. that And then even then the goal goes in and then say instantly then you've got to the two we go back to about them having to go off and we don't look as good they're on the pitch it's Cajusta and Dallap and we go 1-0 down and a minute later those two are off because they've run their race and that's part the problem that again even at 1-0 you never thought we're going to kick on and get an equaliser did you? And even before the subs were made it was 1-0 and it was a feeling that was that rather than the hope of going equalised because we're not good enough at the end of these games and

That's the problem is now is that these ski things say they just have, they have to change somehow. And I really, I really don't know how they do, which is really, which is a tough position to be in really when you can, to be able to see a problem and not know how to solve it.
00:29:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's been a position we've been in for months really. And we keep suffering to the same issues week in, week out. Like i say, it feels like a, It feels Groundhog Day, these Monday episodes of the podcast, the only thing that changes is who's on them.
00:29:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
It feels like we're always sitting here saying that we haven't played that badly at all, but we haven't won the game. And we're long past the point where we can get away with that. That we can't, the into March, 10 games to go of a Premier League season, six points to overturn.
00:30:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
You can't be getting away with not getting anything from from a decent performance away from home. And it's part of the problem. But like I said, the six the gap's up to six. It was bad enough at five. It's six now. Yes, we've still got to play Wolves. There obviously is an opportunity to halve it. But you've got to make three points up somewhere else. And that's assuming they lose every game. It's going to be a tough, tough ask. But we know where the problems are. We've got to find a way to to correct them in some way. We're not going to fix them in the next 10 games. But you've got to find a way sort of plaster over them so you can get over the line and get some results in and
00:30:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's going to be a tough ask. say We've got Forrest coming to Portman Road this weekend who are absolutely flying. Huge result for them in a six-pointer at the weekend beating Man City that doesn't nail them on for top four but puts them in a much stronger position than they were going into the weekend.
00:31:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
so they're going be well up for Obviously, we know how difficult they are but we've given them good games both times. that Both times we've played them so far this year and they were away so they wouldn't be as confident coming away from their own pitch as well even though we're probably not as confident on our own pitch as we should be. But it's 10 cup finals. oh It's a cliche again. I've thrown a lot of them out here in this episode, but there's 10 cup finals left. Big things need to change if we're going to get the results we need to stay up.

My confidence isn't high, but i also also have faith in these players and in Kieran McKenna that they are good enough to do it in there. I don't expect anything, but in the back there's always going to be some bit of hope in the back of my head, however negative the majority of my brain is thinking. But that will do it for today's episode. It's only so long I can sit and talk about such a heartbreaking result on my own. But we'll be back tomorrow for a Tactics Tuesday episode, and then we'll have all your usuals over the rest of the week as we look ahead to that game with Nottingham Forest next weekend.
