Speaker: Something crazy about the song that's on the album that with me and Smino. That song, ah he lost his he lost the files to that song. Oh, really? That's just the EP3, bro. No way. Yeah. You can't even.

Speaker: We just stems. No. We just mastered the MP3. That's crazy. Just ghetto fire. Ghetto fire for sure. We want the song out, bro. And Smee was like, I'm not re-rapping that, bro. Like that's that song is I can't do that again, bro. Yeah. The way I did it. No.

Speaker: i was like, bro, don't care. there's a lot You know where I come from, bro? yeah I thought a whole I'll be MP3s. Yeah. That's wild. i mean, if you don't understand that just means that the file, they whatever was saved, the last save. I think I think s speed I think Smith's computer crashed at some point and or like maybe the computer he was working on wasn't didn't say right or something. I don't know.

Speaker: You know, I wasn't even mad when he told me he was just like, gang, got something to tell you. I ain't got like, like, like I don't have the way far for that.

Speaker: I like you think how long you think he took to to be like, yo, let me tell, let me tell Kai. I don't know, man. Cause he was like, I know he's probably pacing like, nah, we gotta, we gotta figure this out. The thing is about a lot of, a lot of my friends that I work with,

Speaker: They don't care in the best way. It's like, why are we like, bro? Like who cares, bro? Let's put the song out, bro. Like like who careed

Speaker: What's good everyone. Welcome back to my first kicks the podcast. Where are you sneakers to get to know my guests in front of me this week? I have a returning guest. My boy Kai Sango. Appreciate you Welcome back, man. It's been a minute. Thank you, bro. who Who else has been on the show multiple times? Multiple times we got you think Rob Hayes. We got ah ah my boy Nick, che ah Chris Chaney. Wow. He's going hit me. He's going to hit me for that one. Then we got 8080 sneaks. He's been on a bunch. I think he's like five time Dakota come back twice.

Speaker: Koda came back twice. Yeah. Okay. We love you, bro. Yeah. I mean, it's crazy. we want We want to come back, bro. I mean, it's all love it between me and you. i mean Ever since your episode, we ended up becoming like friends, real friends. I said like friends. Nah, nah. It was love, bro. I appreciate Nah, man. you've been You've been crushing it. But...

Speaker: The reason you're here is because I've been listening to your album for a year. and you're going to... Oh, yeah. You've been knowing it. Yeah. So you're going to get... This is the only interview you get with the most in-depth questions about track. No, facts. No, facts. Now you will. Because... lee I mean, it's just like, you know, i i love the album. When you sent it to me, I was already telling you album of the year i'mma name this episode album of the year. It's album of the year to me. So, well yeah. Welcome back, bro. Thank you, bro.

Speaker: How you feeling? Tired, yeah but I'm good. yeah I think... It's raining outside right now, but it's just been a crazy week. By the time this episode drops, my episode with Jason Maiden from ah Jordan Brand comes out, and he brought the Jordan 41s. So I got to see them first.

Speaker: like It's crazy. It's been a crazy. It's fire. Since you've been on, I told you, you started the domino. Because ever since, yeah, once once I started being like, yo, I had Sango on, people like, yo. That's cool. I mean, shoot, that's fire, bro. I mean.

Speaker: I feel like podcasting is, it should start with friends. You know what mean? Like people are trying look for like some clout chase moment. And it's just like, bro, how are you going to do that when you don't even know the guest like that? Nah, yeah. And I mean, we've these conversations too where just like not click baiting.

Speaker: You know, I'm not trying to ask you crazy questions or anybody that's is sitting in front of me crazy questions. You could, bro. We bros, bro. You could ask me whatever. Nah, but I'm talking about just in general. like you know ah we we We can't talk about the shit that we talk about on 2K.

Speaker: Nah, yeah. We're going to band by some... A band in 90 countries or something like that. But the one thing I did, was because the first we got to start off with sneaker shit. The first thing you said was, you text me and you go, yo, I think Brooks got it. so I think Brooks got it, bro. He's rocking Brooks right now. Shout out my boy Peter, bro. Peter Vary at Brooks.

Speaker: But I want to know why, because we never really expanded on it. I kind of like, I tucked it away. I was like, yeah. And then I kind of was just like, i' what next time you pull up, I'm definitely asking you this shit. So like, what really got you into Brooks? And I mean, I know it's a Seattle brand, so it's just like. That's one thing. Yeah. So like. Expand on that a little bit. Bro, my first pair of brooks was on my cross-country team.

Speaker: I ran in high school. It's funny because i ah my coach, my coach Antel, shout coach Antel, bro. He was nuts. ah He made us watch this. I forget the name of the movie, but it's like this movie about Steve Prefontaine.

Speaker: He was a runner from Seattle. No, I don't think I know that one. Yeah, and it's like, made it made sense because I told my coach, because I was in Michigan, no you guys were born and raised in Seattle too. Yes, this this is going to hit for you, son. You know, so you know um I've been a runner my whole, right you know, since I was younger. I don't run as much anymore because I messed my leg up like three times. So I kind of switched to cycling.

Speaker: But um yeah, bro, like like I've always been known to wear Brooks, like subconsciously, because I was like, you know I had to train and stuff. doing but One year, about two years actually in high school, bro, was running from August all the way to May and June.

Speaker: Because I would do cross country, yeah indoor track, outdoor track. And then it's just like, I was like, all right, bro, I have no time time to like make beats. you know I want to make beats, bro. It's funny, that was around of time I was skating too.

Speaker: And I was like, bro, my coach, he took my like skateboard from me. He said, are you nuts? gotta You're out here skating in the parking lot and we need you to like run. like You got to break yourself. He was like, I'll give it you after the season's over. I've never seen that board ever since. It was a DGK board, bro. It was pink and black, bro. huh best I missed that board. That's fire. I mean, it it's Brooks. I definitely seen like, you know, it's been coming up and this, the you're rocking the adrenaline GTS. I'm rocking the GT. I think what it say on the side, and nines, the 10. no, no, no, no

Speaker: The fours? The threes? I don't know. I don't remember. I don't know. Comment below because I definitely... It's one of those numbers. Three or four. Some shit like that. But that shoe super comfortable. And I was going to... To be honest, I have the... Because I've seen you going on... Walking around. You had the yellow ones. And had the same ones. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Did you get the yellow ones? Yeah, I got those yellow ones. Those are fire. They're like...

Speaker: I don't know, they call like, don't know, Wu-Tang colors. Like, you know, they're black and yellow. I call them like, man, like, that's like Bruce Lee color. Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee. But I think it's just... Shout out Bruce Lee, Seattle. Everything's Seattle for you. First of all, first of all, this is best team in the world. Oh, my God. You already know, we got proof. We humble. We a humble bunch, bro. Oh, yeah? We don't mind, bro. We don't... We don't mind. We mind our business rather. Richard was it Richard Seymour?

Speaker: Yeah. he He was never humble. Yeah, bro. I'm just trying to tell you right now. He ain't one of us like that. Talking about the fan base. Yeah, yeah, yeah. All we care about is we only have smoke with the Niners. Yeah, for sure. That's our only smoke. That's the only smoke.

Speaker: Everybody else cool. Yeah. We love it. label Actually, you know what's funny? Out of all the teams that we actually that we actually like, ah and believe it or not, we're rivals a bit like with the Rams, but we love the Rams fans. They cool.

Speaker: They got a cool stadium. i mean When it's raining all the time, of course it's not going to be. you You can't be angry at a lot of people. Seattle fans in all sports, we're humble. We're humble. yeah we're humble we we we don't we got bro we're like, bro, we ain't like like the knicks like like the Knicks fans. like Y'all have every right to like smack fire on people right now.

Speaker: Look, mean, that was, yo, that ah it was, the tough it was tough, man. It was tough. It's a good year for us for sports, bro. It is. it is. It is It is. Got the Knicks and the Seahawks, man. We up, bro. We can't, bro, we might as well retire from sports. y yeahall That's it. We're happy, bro. That's it. I'm just going to be like, we're done, man. i i've my My year, my sports years end.

Speaker: You're just, I'm good. I'm retired. You almost had a, you almost had a GOAT sports year, but Brazil didn't. Nah, man. I told, i test i remember I texted you this? I was just like, yo, if the the Mets and the, no, no, if the Knicks and Brazil win the World Cup, I'm just going to ascend. like just like just Like, God just takes me. but Brazil has, bro, don't know what Brazil is going to do, bro.

Speaker: is all don' know They talking about Neymar going to play again. Nah, man, he's cooked. there's old He's cooked? i don't I don't think so. I think he got one more, but by the time he, you know, four years from now, Maybe he could do FIBA.

Speaker: He'd be 38, so. Yeah. He could, you know, um I think Neymar got one more cup in him. I also also believe also believe Ronaldo might play one more cup. No way. I feel like he's going to just come on, or come off the bench and, like, you know, oh like be unk, you know. I don't think so because the way that it actually you know what he's no sorry Messi rather Messi Messi yeah think Messi's younger I think Ronaldo's done bro Ronaldo's done but you're so back to the books you were talking about like I mean once i i started noticing you were like wearing them in your like rollouts for the album yeah but the album make sure you cop the album bro I need that vinyl

Speaker: Yeah, it's coming, bro. They're pressing it right now, bro. I need that vinyl. If you order the vinyl, they're pressing it. You should see it soon. Rhythm and Melody, out now. Yeah, out now. Go stream it. But you were definitely intentional about rocking Brooks in it. I want to know the whole process of coming up with everything surrounding around the album.

Speaker: Man, talking about the rollout especially? Yeah, man. Bro, my my brother John Salmon, man, he's a gifted person, bro. He understands the unoccupied lane network that I can fit in, you know, as far as...

Speaker: having comedy because love comedy right yeah having comedy but it's like in like in the same breath of like instrumental like DJ world like you know so and then trying to like putting my like try to put my personality to these videos but also make it to to where it's like not like here's my music you know it's like this is a concept you know so Yeah, we developed like a series. We're still shooting more. And it's just about like the out, like the it's not even about the album itself. It's about like the people from the album, who we who we are, um like creating a storyline that's based on like a failing like record label. Yeah.

Speaker: That thinks they know how to like put albums out. Yeah. Because you got you got June right. June's June's playing the the head. Yeah. Yeah. The record label. um No, no, no. He's not. He's one of the workers. He got Demetrius Harmon. Yes. the has to Come on the show. Yes.

Speaker: Please, Meech, pull up, bro. Meech would do this show for real. He's always down to do stuff, bro. he's like He would love to talk. Bro, he has a cool shoe collection. Yeah. you He'd be down to talk to you about a lot of that stuff, too. um But, like, yeah, the first video you were talking... you like the Well, the first video was Hot Sizzle in the cabinet.

Speaker: That shit was crazy. I know, man. He was down, too. When I met Hot Sizzle, he was just like... I was like yo, you want to do a commercial? He's ah he's like, yeah, when and where? Like, I drop everything. He flew in and flew out. He flew in from, like, Houston and left, like, later that night.

Speaker: He was just down to just do it, bro. he was Oh, you got to talk about, because remember I was there that night, remember, when you you used him in a sample, and I think Anique was like, I can connect you with him or some shit like that. Or how did that connection happen? He had booked somebody. I think he had helped book um Big Freedia or something like that at some party.

Speaker: And I think, you know, it's funny because like, no shade to Anique, I just think that he probably who mised mistook. Uh huh. Big Frieda for High Sizzle. Oh yeah. They do the New Orleans. Yeah, yeah. wells Yeah.

Speaker: oh But yeah, yeah. Basically, that was that was something in the works regardless. Oh, okay. So. I was like, I thought that was like, because the way you sound is like, oh shit, for real? And then I was like, damn, this happened right there. So I was like, oh shit, I was there when this happened. Yeah, yeah. I mean, for the most part, I've always had my eyes set on like working with bounce artists, regardless of like it being a sample chop or in person. So it's funny because that's that's how I made the song first. Right. Like the song was a, it was a sample of him that i took from a song. Yeah, I know. I listened to it. yeah yeah Yeah, yeah. And then he hit me up. He was like, yeah, bro. like this is I was trying to hit him up to clear I was like, can I clear this?

Speaker: He was like, bro, why would I clear when I can just get on the record? Yeah. was like, that's fire. That's great. That's fire. He's a legend, bro. like Beyonce it like has had him on songs. Drake, you know? so And now he's on a single song. He's a valuable person, bro.

Speaker: It's crazy, bro. The one thing I definitely wanted to know was like, collaboration, right? Like, you know, you are a producer, so you're producing this shit, but like, you're still, like, we talk about this in private, but like the, I hope you're enjoying this week's episode with Sango. And of course, do not forget to like, subscribe and leave a comment on this video. And all the money goes right back into ah the podcast.

Speaker: But let's jump back into the episode. like the like the the The art of collaboration, like how are you what's your approach to like finding out the artists, or finding to see if that something fits with them? you know like Especially on your your your music, because you're trying to push a specific sound. like This is the Sango sound. So how do you get an artist to buy in on that? Bro, I'ma sound like depressing. Bro, just wait around until people wanna work with me.

Speaker: Like it's funny He's like oh you have you struggle with that It's not even like a struggle It's more so like timing wise Yeah Like people have things going on And I feel like people I've worked with They'll drop everything to understand where more I'm coming from Like Smino will be like Oh man I'm hearing you out like I want to be a part of your album. Like, bro, he would even say, like, bro, don't let me don't let don't ever put out an album. I'm out on it. like yeah So, like, that's love, bro. Like, same with, like, somebody like, you know, Dave B or Xavier Omar, um me working with Jamin now, too, Lize. Everybody's, like, just down to work. But we have, the people that I have on the album, we've we've cooked multiple times before in the past and in the future, you know. So, yeah, bro, it's, it's,

Speaker: There's no rhyme or reason, bro. It's just like, it's just like who's down? Yeah. And then if you're down, let's let's make it make sense now. Right. You know? Because feel like some people, would age they like chase features and like, I want this person. So they're going to, yeah, let me get a little baby. yeah yeah We're going to pay little baby crazy dummy racks. Yeah. don't even know who you are. I'm trying to like chase something for the label so I can recoup my my my deal. are You doing too much. Yeah. Like, that's not how it works. You might get like a TikTok moment, but it's not going to be organic, bro. Like, nobody cares about music that is just made in a factory. You know what mean? Nah, it's trash. That's trash. Nah, yeah, bro. Because it's funny you to say that, too, because like my biggest thing... is I'm not one thing I don't like is like shopping music. Like if you walk into of ah Century 21, you can definitely sing the songs as you come out. Like you don't have to hear it like in yeah and in your everyday. Like you don't have to put it on an album or I mean, put it in a playlist and then like that. fills up the yeah it's just right here and then you're just randomly walking to a store you got it in your head so then when you go to like a bar or something it comes on you already know you're like oh shit you know that song like yeah I walked into ah ah a fucking Zara and it was playing of course I know the song like I hate that like it's so easy to grab type of shit that's what that's what most def said the shopping music yeah you know it's funny ah there's a song K Trinata's last album Ain't No Damn Way you know the song Target Joint yeah I think it's called Target Joint right I think so

Speaker: It has the word target in it. Let's just say that. oh He told me this story about how him and Amine were working on that Kejimine album. And they had that, they were just, you know, working around just stuff. And like Amine made a joke in the studio. was like, he was like,

Speaker: we should make a we should make a joint that can be good for shopping. yeah And K like, what, like a Target joint? yeah like It was like an inside joke. yeah Them dudes is funny, bro. Nah, yeah. That shit is so funny that the i ended up having water. there You can go.

Speaker: got the Yeah, but the um it's so funny you mentioned Amine because I do bring up when you let me go see like you open for Amine at Central Park and I was thirsty.

Speaker: It's all good. the thing will said Yeah, but that was such a crazy moment to me that like, like, I don't know if you understood it. Like, because for you, that's normal.

Speaker: Oh, yeah. Yeah. But like for me to be like You know I saw Amine Like play Caroline like six times At fucking Urban Plaza And that was like his only music at that time right and He only had ah Good For You And that was it yeah And then you You know Were like yo pull up And I'm like This is like And then like Seeing how many people just pull up for him After that Like that was crazy That was amazing bro It's a blessing It's funny cause like Speaking of Kei Tremine I toured with Kei Yeah. Last year. Right.

Speaker: um In Europe. And then immediately hit me up in the DMs like, yo, bro, I got to have you on my tour and in in America. It's like bet, you know, so them guys always been showing love, bro.

Speaker: But that tour, you were done after that tour. Oh, the Mene one? Yeah. Yeah, bro. I got off the tour. ah the last date was Minneapolis for me. I flew back home.

Speaker: Immediately, like, was hanging out with my kids. Was preparing to, like, go on a trip. i had to go on a trip, family trip, for, like, three days. And it was, like, decompressing. But it also, it wasn't decompressing because I had to drive, like like, three hours yeah to like, a nice Airbnb and...

Speaker: we like We did bonfires. It was nice. That's fire. But like, bro, I think my favorite type of rest is like at the crib, bro. At the crib, yeah. the crib it with silence. At the crib, low-key watching like Disney Plus with my daughter. Oh, yeah. That's peaceful. That's awesome.

Speaker: Like just binge watching Proud Family. Present, bro. Yeah. You like being present. Just being like, you know, with the family being present. So, I mean, that's like crazy to see like, oh, yo, I'm playing in front of like sold out crowds.

Speaker: Like, I'm talking about this crowd was insane. like And I mean, Amine just like packs a house. And so you're playing that shit to just be like, nah, just want to be with my daughter. in the Like, like they like where where do you get...

Speaker: The adrenaline rush Is there adrenaline rush here Or is there adrenaline rush here You know what's You know what's funny Like the the adrenaline rush Comes from like I think the most Excited I get about DJing Is when Bro When I got new music I want to play That's mine Yeah Because was like, ooh, you know what I mean? I'm breaking this song out to y'all. Like, that's fun.

Speaker: ah Or playing playing ah us in a city that I know turns up. Yeah. Like Chicago. gotta come see you play Chicago. love Chicago so much, bro. They just get it from me, you know?

Speaker: oh Yeah, man. Like, there's, there's there's a more like, multi-emotional things that are happening when I'm on stage. yeah so I'll be missing.

Speaker: When I saw... I remember... So, the... When I watched you play Webster Hall, that was my first time... Like, this is... Before we recorded the podcast and you invited me to watch you play Webster Hall, was like... I've never seen... With Koda, and that's how that... Yeah, and that's how that happened. Yeah, And then with Key, too. That's how i first met Key. And it had Key on here, too. But, like, the... It's just... It's insane. I don't know how, like You turn it on on stage like I've never seen before. Like I've seen people turn it up.

Speaker: Right. Like, but like you come back, you're just like, yeah, I did that. you like Like you come back, yo. I think it's my personality. man I have no, a I don't understand who, type of I don't know how I'm, I know myself, but I don't understand like how people like perceive me. like I have like a, I have like such a,

Speaker: like introverted, extroverted personality. Like I could be extroverted, I could be introverted, and I'm like, not the most like in your face guy, but I'm not gonna be like a quiet like dude like that. Like, you know, I was quiet in high school, but i like got out of that.

Speaker: Cause i I don't know personally, I feel like you two grown. I got kids, bro. What I look like being a shy grown man with kids. That's crazy, bro. What is that about? Shy people, if you say I'm shy, that's like literally for kids. You know what I mean? I've been saying, oh, he's shy. call him Shygo. Yeah. If you're like that, all right. But I feel like if anything, if you're a grown man with that trait, at that point, you're just like, that translates to like reserved. You say I'm reserved. That's like adult shyness. Adult shyness, yo. Put that on his shirt. So, but yeah, I don't know, man. guess like when I get the stage, I'm like, yeah, I just did that. It's more like, I don't know, man. It's just like, I'm just doing my thing, bro. It's just like, yeah. I'm like, I'd be having tunnel vision, bro. Like, I'd be like- But it's like, but it's not, it's not, let me say real quick. It's not like- I wasn't saying nothing. It's not like you like clocking in.

Speaker: Like, you know how some people- Oh yeah, not like robotic. Yeah. So it's like, You turn up on stage. like I'm talking about you dancing to this shit. Yeah, facts. You in it. and and then And then it's kind of like you feel that your personality or like you command the stage. And then when you're back in the green room, it's just like you dab me up or whatever. You come and be like, yo, man, how was that? And I'll be like, the fuck? like yeah Like... What do you mean I was at? I loved it. yeah Yeah, I don't know, bro. It's more so like, I'm trying to like, um I want to give you like an answer on why I'm like that. Yeah. I think i think it's just because. I think that's my that's the most that's that's the most curious question I ever have about you. And I've never asked you like just the tip. Why you like that? Yeah, it straight up. like I mean, we like we close now. yeah I think I'm like that because I'm a middle child. And like, like I'm never going to be like,

Speaker: it's like a level of, kind when you're a middle child, there's like a level of confidence you have that translates directly to like bigger moments and like performing under pressure. yeah So like having like a poker face or like not even like I have a poker face, but more like the switch from this to that comes from like being able to manage ah like multiple people at once. yeah like You know what I mean? Like, hu that's just my nature, like just being a mediator type of referee guy. Like you can you can see, you watch a referee on TV, yeah foul on James, like turn up yelling, and he's just like, you know what mean? Like, you gotta like, you gotta, it's like, it's calm, it's down the middle. It's like, I did that, and like, that's the end of that emotion. yeah Like my emotions are like short, like lived. I'm like Kawhi dunking a ball sometimes.

Speaker: Like, yeah Yeah. That's crazy. ivi I mean, it makes sense. I mean, knowing you for this long now, like it does make sense. But then it goes back to like you know the art of collaborating. like I think that plays into that, right? Facts, yeah. Y'all got me saying facts. Word. I'm trying to think. It's that camera. You keep looking at this one. It's that one. That camera's close. Yeah.

Speaker: bill I think there's an art to collaboration and like you know the whole massaging. Massaging ah communications, right? I'm on my eighth yawn now. I know. It's all good. I know I'm boring.

Speaker: No, I'm sorry. But the the art of collaboration with the producer album, like we don't really see it. So I wanted to know. like when i When I first heard it, I heard it bare bones. And we I was asking you fucking questions like crazy about it, too. So like the inspiration behind it, right? I know what it's about. I know how, you know, your legacy is always wrapped within the world sound. Yeah. But this album expands on here, your home. and does. Yeah. And so, you know, it reads more of like a journey between what inspires you. Yeah. You know? And so I wanted to know, like, how did that come out? Like that idea. Yeah, I mean, you know, I've always, bro, honestly, the, like, one one way I started my album was, like, I literally just went through my beat folders. Like, what have I been making? yeah I'm like, damn, I've been making this type of stuff this whole time. Like, was like, I gotta make an album. Let me let me let me gather all this stuff.

Speaker: Let me gather all the, it like, the stuff I've actually made with people as well. Like, oh, this actually makes sense. This this is cohesive. Like, it was a snapshot on who I like well was at the time and still am. You know, because like one of the last songs I made was Lucky Eye. We made that song in like June.

Speaker: It's a brand new song. You know what I mean? I know, yeah. When I saw you drop that in, was like, oh shit. Yeah You know mean Taking songs off Like there's some songs I just didn't make it But only because I felt like It just didn't Tell the story It wasn't part of the story was just like You know But yeah So it does album 100% tells the story Because there's some people that doesn't really... Yeah, the story, the actual story of the album is the art of production.

Speaker: It's like a display. It's like a gallery. It's like um you go see Takashi Murakami, his work, and what you know him for from here to here. yeah And then he might have...

Speaker: have five different pieces that are inspired by old work. Not the actual old work. Because I'm not going just put out a song I put out before on a new album. That's just was crazy. I mean, you know, maybe so. what What if I just remastered North? You know? the yell oh I just brought back the songs.

Speaker: Or you can do what the Kid Laroid did. What'd he do? he would He would only make like a couple new songs and then he'll just put it into an album and then just say it's like the album again. He'll be like 2.0.

Speaker: Yo, I actually want to just like, if I'm bored one day, just go back to like one of like some of my favorite songs and just be like, remix, like me make them, like remix them. Dude, I think that would be fire. There's some songs that aren't like mixed that good yeah that I put out.

Speaker: At least do that. i don't want to like mess up the, you know, the originality of it, but like. Nah, yeah. Yeah. Remastered. I mean, greatest, not greatest, remastered. I could, bro. i'm at I'm at a stage in my life where I put out enough music where I can do like,

Speaker: Sango's greatest hits. Yo, you should definitely do a greatest hits. That would be fire. That would it you call it SoundCloud era. that would be fire. Yeah, I don't know, man. They need to, you know, that's an that's an idea. How about this, Spotify? Take this idea from me. Mm-hmm.

Speaker: Um... I wouldn't name it SoundCloud era because that's not, you're beefing with two platforms. No, yeah. oh Or SoundCloud could take SoundCloud could take it, but I'm saying, or Apple Music, take it. yeah I saw you have blog blog rap era, yeah like playlists a lot.

Speaker: We need a post, we need like a SoundCloud era rap or a SoundCloud era ah beats playlist. Like all the people that came up, like, old Kay Trinata, like Sam Gelletry, Monty Booker, Esther, Mr. Carmack, me, all these people that were like putting music out around that time that was like styled like that. Taku. Yeah. You know, um they need to make that. That would be, I mean. Yeah, but the album. Run that, yo. Yeah, run that. But the album, and the the idea is it's it's it's production, bro. It's like yeah it's like me. It's Sango's san goes on ah From Here to Now type of album. No, yeah. I feel like you feel the journey, right? Like, you know, first first song you're coming in with, it's just like, it feels like you're just getting out the car. And you're like, ehhh.

Speaker: like Yeah, the name that song is Out With The New In With The Old. yeah I'm like letting people know, like, yo, immediately I'm going back to like older sounds that I'm i'm inspired by myself. um like You could be, bro, being inspired by your old self is fire, bro. yeah You're like, damn, i was really doing that? like You know?

Speaker: It recalibrates you. Nah, yeah, that's sick. And then second song, I mean, you starting off... Happy I'll Be Alive. Yeah. The way that... That's the Vic song. Vic song. Happy to be alive. Happy to be alive. It's like... I remember when I first, first heard it.

Speaker: Because that was like... When you sent me the link, that was like one of the first songs that was still in there. And I was like, this is... The way he like glides on it on that beat is insane. what what What song on the album would you say, when you first heard it, you were like, yo. Yo. I love these songs, too. Well, it's not on there anymore, so I can't even say it. It was the I'm a Piano joint?

Speaker: Nah. It was this the original Smino joint. Oh, yeah. Yeah, with Rico. Yeah. We saving that. We might save that. I just like his verse. I'm talking about like when I heard Smino's verse on that, I was like, this is crazy. Yeah. I'm out in L.A. Fake ass. Fake grass. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, that shit. I was like... He had a bar that was dated, though. He probably wouldn't... It like a Donald Trump bar. He said, President get impeached or something like that. I don't know. That was long time. I mean, I hope Yeah, I know. Well, yeah. Knowing Smee, he would keep it all. He don't care. But... And then, I mean, it's definitely Big Sean joint. Big Sean joint. Want to know something crazy about the song that's on the album that with me and Smee?

Speaker: That song... ah he lost us He lost the files to that song. Oh, really? That's just the MP3, bro. No way. Yeah. And you can't even... No stems, no nothing? We just mastered the MP3, bro. That's crazy. Just ghetto fire. Ghetto fire, for sure. We want this song out, bro.

Speaker: And Smee was like, bro, I'm not re-rapping that, bro. like that That song is... I can't do that again, bro. yeah The way I did it? No. i was like, bro, don't care. don't care. He knew where I come from, bro. I'd throw the whole album be MP3s. Do not care, bro. That's wild. I mean, if you don't understand, that just means that the file, they whatever was saved, the last save. I think Smee's computer crashed at some point. and Or like maybe the computer he was working on wasn't didn't save right or something. i don't know. you know

Speaker: I wasn't even mad when he told me. He was just like, gang, I got something to tell you. I ain't got like like like I don't have the the way filed for that. i love you think How long you think he took to to be like yo um ah let me tell let me tell Kai.

Speaker: i don't know man. cause he was I know he's probably pacing like nah we gotta figure this out. you get a about man a lot of A lot of my friends that I work with They don't care in the best way. It's like, why are we like, bro?

Speaker: Like, cares, bro? Let's put the song out, bro. like Like, who cares? They don't got to be perfect. They don't got to be perfect. Jumping in once again to remind y'all that I have merch. I have t-shirts, My First Kicks t-shirts. You can also rep the podcast by copping a My First Kicks t-shirt by hitting me up. in my email at info at myfirstkicks.com or shoot me a DM.

Speaker: They're only $40 plus shipping. We can figure out the shipping. I have a box and i would love to get these shirts to you as soon as possible. So cop it, hit me up.

Speaker: Let's make something happen. But for now, let's jump back into the episode. I mean, with the song... I texted you recently and I was like, yo, hearing... It's like the instrumental joint. I forgot the name of it, though.

Speaker: it they They played it at the park jam and I was like, oh, I like that song. You're talking about... um ah ah ah Finally Found the Words to Say. Yeah, it's Finally Found the Words to Say. And that song, like hearing that, I think the... Out Loud? Yeah, I think Out Loud or...

Speaker: I don't know what it was. It was like, like I don't know if it was just like, because I was in the gym listening to it, and like it just hit me so crazy. like It sounded bigger. And so like it felt like the first bunch of times it didn't hit me that way, but I don't know why.

Speaker: i guess when I listened to it on on that day or whatever, it was just like, now that's my favorite song on the album. It's funny, bro, because like a lot of the stuff I'm doing my ah on my album is just like,

Speaker: me checking off ah ah like like checking off things I've always wanted to do. And like, nailing it the way I wanted to do, you know? So, yeah. I'm glad you said that, because I love that song as well. yeah that's one That's one of the best performing songs like that I play out loud. I like i'll play a few songs. look Okay, they vibing. That one, they dance to that. you know how did I mean, what's that what goes into that too? Because it's like you're playing a DJ set. Everybody's kind of like, you know, I feel like you you found a groove of like, all right, I know this songs are going to be the ones that turn up.

Speaker: And then now I want to slide my album cuts in here. Like, what ah what's like the magic that you do? Or like the thought process behind that? The thing is though, I could play. I've done it before. This set's I could have a set it's just all my music. And, like, I know at least 50% of the music I'm playing, people are going to, like, fully recognize. Like, I know this song. I heard it somewhere. ah You got to just be confident in what you play, bro. Because, like, I'm going to be real with you, bro. There's a lot of DJs that are artists as well, and they make music that don't play their music. Yeah, that's crazy. And, like, why would, you know, like... ah ah Like I would play up I'm playing your music Why aren't you playing your music? yeah You know Like what?

Speaker: You know But It's not bad It's a preference Yeah ah But also Bro you gotta just You gotta to just trust the process And go for it bro Some people are gonna be like Nodding this way But like who cares Like That's just them Understanding this is a This is a song I never heard before You know That's See, I can't do that because I'll be so nervous. and You pass the aux. If I'm like, yo, pass the aux. I'm like, i need everybody liking every single song that I'm playing right now. And so, i like, I'll be playing your shit. um I just, go you know what?

Speaker: I just default to your sets. I just be like, here you go. You be like, that we this is what we listening to. I'm trying to be more careful now because I've been doing a lot of DJ sets out in the open as far as like online. And I don't want to give away too much sauce, bro. Nah, yeah. i want i kind of want to keep my life live DJ sets.

Speaker: I want people to be curious about them. you know No, for sure. Yeah. so I mean, i think seeing you live is always just fun. Like, I think it's just like I'm there to like, like as a friend, but I'm also there like, oh, I've been a fan of yours for a fucking hot minute. So it's just like seeing like, I love the way i get more, yeah're more ah excited because of how the fans in the crowd or the crowd reacts to you. Yeah. You know? So like for me, when I listen to the album, I'm like, yo, I can't wait to see it this live. I can't wait to see. I want to see people really like, you know, singing fucking Lucas Carlos, you know.

Speaker: go baby be song yeah name james yoga yeah Or like Dave B's, because Dave B went off on that song too. people Everybody's saying that, bro. yeah Everybody's saying Dave like, who what are we?

Speaker: Yeah, that's his thing, bro. like that's this He been locking in on his flows lately, bro. Liza skated. Ab Liva skated. Yeah.

Speaker: Obviously. Boldy. ah Boldy skated. Obviously. i'm um I'm actually thinking about like verses that I feel like like the flow wise. Not even like not even the content but like literally when you say when I'm saying skating it's like you float you're like you're weaving through the song.

Speaker: Uh If I had to pick low-key, like my favorite my favorite verse for a flow, because feel like I can't really pick one with content because everybody's speaking something super directly from their life life experience. yeah he's equally as But I feel like if I had to pick somebody that was like flowing,

Speaker: Oh, it's gotta be J-Ant. Yeah. That's some Bay Area stuff. Yeah, for real. That flow is just like, you know, get him out of here. 123, 456, 79. That's some different stuff.

Speaker: J-Ant and J-Anthony and ah I gotta go with man...

Speaker: a man

Speaker: Shoot. I'm just kidding. You know what No, um'm I'm just kidding. I'm talking about as far as flow. I feel like his flow was fire. He had a good, he had amazing flow. I'm talking about flows that, that hit me. Yeah. In a way where I'm like, what kind of, what is this kind of flow? You know what I mean Like, like this super, we know Sean for that flow. That's the thing. Yeah. True. Like we said, wow. Like 15 years ago, you know,

Speaker: yeah de j an and um'm Yeah, definitely. And and Dave B. Dave B and J. I do think Dave B's flow on that was like, I ran that song back a couple times because I was like, damn, he's going. way the drums hit. and but the ben ma and and and and and then beneddat but it it's a day He's like singing and rapping Like bro like dang bro I love playing that song out loud too And like to see that Xavier Omar was spitting too He was like rapping a little bit So hu Yeah Nah that's I mean That shit's crazy The

Speaker: You talked about the content of like everybody's really talking from a ah space. Right. So and I got that from listening. Like it's not all these bars are really have substance. Nobody's really like just being like, here you go. You know. yeah So do you think you're the beats promoted that or did you go like, yo, I need you to come with something?

Speaker: Every single last person, that they just they just went on top of the beat as if it needed to be done the way I wanted it to to be done. It's funny because like i i don't have i'm not that role I'm not really that close with Bodhi, but i know i know I've known him in passing and like we met each other a few times yeah and locked in.

Speaker: But I met him through Chuck English. Yeah, shout out Chuck. like That's his cousin. Yeah, so they ah yeah shout out Chuck. yeah they um Former guest. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You got a crazy roster. Yeah, it's going to get crazy. Yeah, yeah, yeah. oh we He connected us, you know, and like that was like amazing because I was like, man, buddy you go I want to see what this na yeah but this is going to do. Because I remember you were like, so so when I got this.

Speaker: For a reference, I've talked about this album on here for a minute. So if you've been listening to the podcast, you definitely heard me be like, yo, Sango, send me this album. This is the album we've been talking about. Yeah, man. But you sent me to, when it was just the beat, and then you asked me, who do you think would be on this? And I gave you, like, three people. It was like, I know you said Freddie.

Speaker: was like, Freddie. ah I said, i was I would like to see Danny Brown on it. Shout out Danny Brown, bro. Because I wanted to, I was thinking Detroit. I wanted somebody, like, I think, and he, and when he dropped Cuarenta, I was like, oh, he's switching up the flows and stuff. But now he's on some, like,

Speaker: pop galaxy thing that he's on now which is which is wild but I would I would thought about i thought about Bruiser Wolf too yeah and then I gave you i was like Bruiser Wolf would have been crazy on it too but it was it just so happened because me and Savon who made the beat together so I'll Savon we was like we had that beat in the tuck bro we was like we were just cooking up and at my house and it was just something that I was like bro we we can't get this beat away to just anyone nah yeah you know I damn near was going to put it out as ah on as an instrumental, bro. I was like, I'm obsessed with this beat.

Speaker: And Boldy, of course, bro. He turned that song into a nightmare. No, for sure, yo. That's all I wanted, bro. That's all I wanted, bro. If you think about it, it's like, yo, what he's talking about, he's talking about his um ah just things he saw growing up or like just his experiences. Mm-hmm.

Speaker: And then it just goes right into the next song with Jay Ant. Yeah. You know what mean? It's just like these different like episodes within the series, you know? So the, the interludes, right? I do think you're, what I love is the family orientation that you bring into this shit.

Speaker: Like the in North too, you know, you got my grandpa and on there. um And so this one, and my grandpa, I my grandma had my grandma and my dad. Yeah, exactly. mean, your grandma.

Speaker: is he That's your grandma getting shouted out by trying to get. Oh, and that's my that's my ah my mom-in-law. Yeah, there you go. Mom-in-law. Or my stepmom. Stepmom. There you go. the Actually, my mom-in-law wasn't an album.

Speaker: But like I feel like she got kind of shy. She was on there speaking Spanish. That would have been fine. Yeah, yeah. feel like she got kind of shy. you know What's the and down though? For sure. The next ultimately she would have been down. But like it was like, let me live alone. What's the I guess like the inspiration of like putting those interludes in there because you were like, I heard it without the interludes. And then you were like, yo, check out the album. And then I checked it out and you added all the the extra stuff in it. Like what what's like the why do you why do you add that world building to it?

Speaker: Bro, I've always loved how Drake did that. Drake was like the man, the man guy with like voicemails and like just incorporating like that type of stuff. Like like even like Look What We Done. you know i mean? Like know I know like if I had to pull from Inspiration, it was definitely from Drake and 40 on that.

Speaker: Because it gives you a direct access to, like, artist's inner world, inner circle, without being doing it too much. It's like, I wonder what the what is that about? That's just guy's cool. You know what I mean? It's like, Drake will like rap about ah random street will no one knows besides...

Speaker: yeah If you're like from Toronto Yeah exactly So like ah i I actually like that I like doing things in my music That's just very specific he's like if you if you know if If you know you know type thing Even on the album cover You know like little stuff like You know like Grand Haven The Grand Haven coast On West Michigan yeah what the la With the Lighthouse Or like the orca wells in the puget sound and in seattle or the calder plaza structure yeah in uh grand rapids michigan little things like that bro it's just like it's like home you know nah that's i mean you you're putting your soul into these beats so it's like yeah like it's a piece of you at this point right like you're giving people a piece of you like it's hard to kind of

Speaker: Like, I don't understand how artists disconnect themselves from their music so much to be like, you know, I'm not, you know, this is not really part of me type of thing. This is just for y'all. But, you know, the one thing that I really loved about that album was, and I mean, just knowing you too, was just just like, it did feel like you. And I think, you know, you've been saying that as well.

Speaker: oh I'm going to pivot this into that Instagram post. Yeah. That you posted after you dropped the album. Yeah, the rant. Yes. was What was good with that? Because I would like to... like People need to definitely... Bro, I'm going to tell you something. yeah so i went like So... I went online and I get like this, I get FOMO when it when it comes to um people not talking about the things I've done.

Speaker: oh And everybody else, like like i'm ah like I'm left out of conversations type thing, you know what I mean? And like, it's not like I'm like left out of, I'm like like left out of everything. But I was like, dang, okay, nobody's really talking about that. I'm like that, let me...

Speaker: What's going on? I mean, they are, but like not like the bigger press, you know, like nobody to be covering it. I was like, why am I, why do I care about that?

Speaker: Why? Why would I care about a bunch of people that don't even know who I am or care who I care about me? Yeah. Like over like actual fans that like been supporting me since day one, friends. Right.

Speaker: Hella people You know So I was like Nah tripping Let me Let me Let me go on a rant I went on Twitter first and i just I just copied and pasted Yeah All this stuff And then made it into a post Uh huh And um Yeah that was just me Talking Talking about like The fact that like Like an album for what we know, it shouldn't be just like one thing about like, Oh, here's a concept. And this is like the character. and then like, this is like the song. Cause everybody's just so you, bro, nobody's really used to like producer albums. That's like, that is like an, un that's like an uncommon thing. Yeah. You know, it's like the last, I mean,

Speaker: Would you, no, because Alchemist doesn't do that. he drops so He drops projects with artists. Yeah, bro. i'm so like um'm um' Bro, I mean, you got me. You got Kaytranada. Yeah, Kaytranada. Hitboy. Hitboy. Hitboy be rapping on his stuff.

Speaker: You got um Cardo. Mm-hmm. You Mike Will in turn terms of like like in like yeah in the rap R&B world, you know what I mean? Like dance world as well. Yeah.

Speaker: So when we do it, it's like, bro, I can all talk to them guys, especially like somebody like Cardo. And like he and him still being slept on. Like after doing the crazy stuff with Kendrick and yeah Cardi and And I'm like, I get it, bro. I understand your whole life. I understand, gang. Like, we we we're welcome, bro. But like, life of producer. Yeah.

Speaker: Life of being slept on. It's, that's, I mean, like, how do you even battle that? Because it's like, you know, sometimes. Put up numbers. But it's, but even still, because like. Yes, you know, you know.

Speaker: Because even still, like this is what ah this is unless you're like a DJ Khaled or something like that, right? And you're quote unquote producing big songs or something like that. Like nobody's really looking at the liner notes anymore to be like, yo, who produced this? They're not, bro. I mean, you know who looks at the liner notes? Other producers. Yeah, yeah. Music files. Yeah, bro. So I can like shout out the homie like that's on, you know, the SZA joint. Oh, damn, you did it. ah You didn't tell me, bro. Oh, that's the loop you use. ah I know that song. Yeah. I know that sounds familiar. Oh, shout out single, man. He, you know, yeah, that's who was forced for us for the nerds, bro. So, but,

Speaker: I don't know, man. But how do you build a fan base like that? Like I said, bro, numbers. You got put in numbers. If you want to be a DJ Khaled, you got to put up DJ Khaled numbers. Yeah. DJ Khaled grew his brand, though, by... yeah getting stuck on a jet ski.

Speaker: Well, just being a personable human, though. Yeah. You know? Just, like, doing favors for people. Being, you know, charitable. Giving back. Like...

Speaker: Bro, when somebody was like, when when people are like, yo, come to my party and, ah you know, it's free to get in and like, you know, free food. And like, how about I got a homie that does like has a brand. You're going to bring free stuff, bro. That's just being you when you do that, that goes a long way for people. Yeah. And it will keep you in mind. You know what mean? It's like, obviously, some people, they do it just so they can get stuff out of people.

Speaker: But like, you know, like, bro, God know. God know like your heart. Like he go he know that's like, you know, you're doing things just to just to one up somebody else later in life. Nah, bro. yeah We don't do that. We ain't doing that. Nah.

Speaker: got to be patient, grow daily. Got to be patient, grow daily. Go get a shirt. yeah Please. BPGD.story. I mean, but I think it's just like like reading it and like while I was reading the the tweets too, but it was just like, and I never really like had a conversation with you about it too, about this because The way I guess but Like I found you through your DJing first And then That's fire what Yeah yeah So then Big y'all let's get it Jesus Christ I've been working all week I know it's all good Bro you found me through my DJing first First yeah Curious as hell You got Okay Why Bro that's fire Yeah But it's like, and then I learned about ah the joints with x Xavier Omar. And then I found the rest of the shit. What set?

Speaker: You went to a show? You saw something online? No, I saw, yeah, the... The Philly joint? It was probably the Philly joint. It was, I know, yeah, I think it's the, whatever the one you wearing Pumas in. And that's the one I remember. So, oh, oh, it's the one. the Philly joint. That's funny, such a shoe guy. Yeah, I know. You had the Bugs Bunny... It's that one where you, it's like a big ass crowd it's from the behind, like the view is from behind. I think it's the Philly joint, yeah.

Speaker: I think it was that one first and then I found the selection. Is that the one when I was like, I cut out, I was playing a like a Mene song and i told the crowd. Yeah, that's the one. Remember I sent you the video? Say the N word. Yeah. If you ain't black, don't say it. Yeah, that that one's fire. That, yes. So it started from there and then I started, I'm such a digger that like, I start finding like, oh shit, you did this, you did this, you did this. But I think it was, once I found that, I found the Selection radio where you talk about, ah it was like, it was you and x Xavier Omar on Selection.

Speaker: Okay. And talking about that album. That had to be... um Talking about... 2020. Maybe 2020, 2021. 2020. 2020. Yeah. And then from there, it just I started deep diving. That's cool, bro. You're like what I would say...

Speaker: You're not a brand new Sango fan. You're like newer, on the newer half though. Yeah, yeah, for A lot of my fans, they've been following me for years. And then like, I feel like if you follow me after COVID, you're like, like, ah not like even newer than you.

Speaker: I feel like you're probably finding me through like, like a DJ set now. Or like, you know, something you saw on TikTok or something. Mm-hmm. So, which is cool, bro. I'm unk now. So i i take I'll take everything, you know? And it's funny because I'll meet fans and like, bro, I was listening to your music when I was in middle school. was like, dang.

Speaker: Middle school. I was like, bro, you know middle school? i was listening to Mike Jones. Yeah. I'm Mike Jones to you. Mike Jones, yo. Say it goes by Mike Jones, bro. Like that's the that's some kid, though some dude now. Like that's just, I mean, but it it's the it's the way of lie of just like, because yeah the way of of, I guess, music now, like it's hard to to really figure out where you're really connecting with your fans. like how Like how to, and then when you're like, yo, I need to put out this album.

Speaker: You're like how do I get These people to know I'm putting out this album Yeah yeah Which is I think you feel like ah what we talked about Where is just like I feel like you're feeling that like That disconnect of like How do I communicate that shit That disconnect really came from

Speaker: notoriety Like, I want to be like... Like, part of me was like, yo, I want to like... I want people to be talking about my stuff that are covering... And I'm realizing, oh, that's just like... That's just labels. putting Putting like money towards stuff.

Speaker: You know? And I'm signing... a We did this album, Mass Appeal. yeah And like they have such a different approach to it. They're like, yo, we got it we need to put you in front of people that care. yeah you know Rather than just like running up random press things huh for no reason. Your fans aren't even going to check this stuff. now yeah you i mean and If they do, great. Because it's funny, bro. You you realize...

Speaker: A lot of the stuff is just a scroll. Yeah. You're just like you do. all Like, imagine, bro, you do all this time doing something, setting dates, budget for somebody to be to do this.

Speaker: yeah That shit is crazy. I don't care, bro. That shit is crazy. I've been there. I've scrolled right past something. mean, because that's the world we live in now. That's why it's important for me to like and share the homie stuff, bro.

Speaker: I will repost. I will share stuff in a heartbeat because I i know... don't even care if it's trash, low key. If it's trash, I'll pull you aside, but I'll still do a double tap on a like. I'll still give you an algorithmic engagement. If I fuck with you on a personal level, then I'll forgo if it's whack or not. But I'm definitely telling you if it's whack. Very rarely that I see homies do whack things. And it's really not music related. It's more just like... Brother that take was not it But I'm still like what you said Cause I know you need the likes The likes be helping know whatever dude I got you I mean Cause I'm a big proponent of like I just don't fuck I don't fuck with wack shit at all If it's wack to me

Speaker: i'm just I just keep my mouth shut. I just go. But if it's like, yo, if you send me some shit and I was like, this ain't it, I'm going to tell you this ain't it. But I'm not going to be like, yo, these skits that you're putting on Instagram, they not it. like um I've definitely been told that this is not it, my fair share. yeah Last time out somebody told me this was not it was me rapping on my last album.

Speaker: What? My my manager. Why? She was like, eh. I fuck with it. I mean, it's not bad at all. It's not bad. Bro, I can't even remember what I said, bro. It wasn't even that you weren't even going crazy. That's just exactly. wasn't even going crazy. But that's what saying. No, I'm talking about like you weren't like all over I know what you mean. Oh, you're going crazy in terms of like just doing the most. Yeah. Nah. just like, yo, I'm going to throw in a little bit of bars. You weren't even going like. I did it because J Dilla did it.

Speaker: And I did it. And this was, ah I know the song too. The lake. The lake. Yeah. The house of the. Yeah. Yeah. I got an army of diesel willing to take me out. i got some trauma to give me clarity to get me out. Yeah. I'm getting better at mixing and mastering. I got i got a ceiling.

Speaker: My wall needs to plaster. I don't even remember the rest of the verse, bro. Like... I am not a rapper, bro. can't, bro. no i don't know how niggas. When you played it I remember pulling you, I remember after in the green room and I was like, how come you didn't do your verse on You were like, nah. yeah I don't even know it, bro.

Speaker: I know all Lil Wayne's verses, though. And Nas. man Oh, speaking of Nas, how did it feel like playing your album for Nas? I'm going to show you how Nas looked when he heard my album.

Speaker: It's hard. It's the one. yeah

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: You did this one too? Yeah, I did everything. I did all of them. It's my album. Shout out Nas, man. Shout out man. Nas is bro. actually my goat. No, he's actually my goat, too. And I've kind of interviewed him. I need to get him on the podcast, though. think we talked about that. Yeah, that's my and i my top tier list. He's number one. One thing about Nas I love is that like you can never one-up him. Nah.

Speaker: he's not He's undefeated, bro. like even if Even the whole Jay-Z beef. like Bro, it's just something about Nas. It's just, oh man, you can't. you like Nice try. He's like a nice try guy. and Like Tim Duncan, bro. Duncan on Tim Duncan, it was like he would like play it off like, okay. Nas, he playing it off so well, bro. he' He ain't never been a goofy dude. Like ever like weird, saying weird stuff.

Speaker: Caught up in scandals. you know If anything, he had that like the N-word album. yeah and it But it's like his idea. But it had a crazy message, though. He was like, yeah, he was like really sat with it. He had the jackets with Khalees. It was like, bro, that's fire, bro. He was standing on business. It wasn't like no weird stuff, you know? yeah here And now you can just call him whenever you want.

Speaker: I can't. it must not i'm not called Let's not call Nod out the blue, bro. Put him in a three-way. You were like, yo... know Be like, yo, I want you chop in with my boy real quick. And then you just, you tap me in and be like, who this man, yo? Nah, nah, it's never. It's funny, bro, because like having like famous people's numbers is like my only anxiety that I had was like when my kids were younger and they would use my phone for stuff. It cost them, you know? No, it happened once. It happened once. My daughter, she FaceTime Audio called Bryson Tiller.

Speaker: That's the most craziest the one to be. It's like right at the top because it'll be, you know? It was chill though. Yeah. He picked up? Same. Bryson picked up. Okay. He's like, yo, what's up, single? I was like, my daughter, he's like, ha-ha, it's it <unk> not way That was it. That's my thing because people would be asking me why I have a privacy screen on my phone. I'm like, because I be texting famous people and I don't need people being like, oh, what's that?

Speaker: And I'll be like. They be nosy. That's crazy. yeah oh Especially in New York, if you're on a train, i'm looking at I'm looking at phones. I'm like- That's some New York stuff right there. I don't deal with that. It's funny because like, that's crazy. like Living in Michigan and being in from seattles to Seattle as well.

Speaker: Like seeing New Yorkers is like, y'all have no space. Like bro. Nah, yeah. live top each other. You how many people I see you on a day-to-day basis, bro? right like three maybe, three, four. Outside of my wife yeah and my kids. That's three people. ah huh Might see my mom. Yeah.

Speaker: You know, might see my kid's is teacher. yeah Y'all niggas seeing a thousand people a day, bro. I think the most people I've seen in a day living where I'm at is maybe like 30. Yeah, yeah. You're right. That's literally just like my train ride in, bro. ain't going about no privacy screen, gang. Like, if I got a privacy screen now, I'm looking sus. Like, what you watching on your phone, you know?

Speaker: I mean, knowing you. All right, anyway. Knowing you, yo, Knowing the stuff I send you on Instagram, I sending this nigga crazy. And I'll just looking at it. Yo, yo. yo. Yo, yo. yo. Yo, yo. Yo, yo. yo. Yo, yo. yo. Yo, yo. yo. yo. yo. Yo, yo. Yo, yo. Yo, yo. Yo, Yo, Yo, yo. Yo, yo. Yo, yo. Yo, Yo, Yo, Yo, yo. Yo, yo. Yo, yo. Yo, Yo, Yo, yo. Yo, yo. Yo, yo. Yo, yo. yo. Yo, yo. yo. yo. Yo, yo, Yo, yo. yo, yo. Yo, yo,

Speaker: Yo, yo. Yo, yo, yo, yo recently i don't care you can expose me on my algorithm i' try to even think Was it the, did you send me some shit with the ball dude or some shit like that?

Speaker: it was like a ball. I got to look. Hold on. I got to look.

Speaker: Sorry. But it's so funny because I'm to tell you this. Mostly it's unk stuff. It is unk stuff. But I'm going tell you it this. it you t you You started doing this to me randomly, right?

Speaker: Yeah. that's my That's my sign of love, bro. Yeah. So you did you started doing to me randomly? sign love is to ruin your algorithm. yeah yeah Yeah. You did it to me randomly. And I look down at my phone. And I'm like, um I'm with my boy. And I just turn to him. I go, yo, Sango just sent me a video. And I go, what? And I look at I'm like, oh, this look this this isrific The, let's see Most recently you sent me, you sent me, type of outfit a ah European guy wears to hike the green the Grand Canyon. It's a dude in a, it's a mannequin in a boss tight t-shirt. That's hilarious. Wait. Niggas be, European niggas be showing up

Speaker: Dressing like they finna go model. Yo. To do some like athletic stuff. But the funniest thing, and my response is exactly what I'm about to say right now. I go, LMA, I go laughing my ass off. This is a gym outfit here. Because when I go to the gym, that's what somebody's wearing at the gym. Oh, an outfit here? Yeah. Bro, shout out to all the Guatemalans in Michigan working out with the jeans on. Yeah, bro.

Speaker: ah Crazy, maybe me like bro. It's funny seeing like somebody wearing an outfit that they should should not be wearing somewhere, bro. Yeah, it's insane. It's always somebody wearing something like a a pair of jeans in the gym, bro. That's how you know you you at at the public gym. Yeah. Yo, because I ah over here. So I live by a predominantly like Spanish neighborhood. Right. So there's a lot of Mexicans, there's a lot of, you know, people fresh off the boat type of status. And they pull up and I and i go to a cheap gym. So I go to the cheap gym and there should be dudes and like.

Speaker: full on construction gear. Like he looked like he about to At the gym? At the gym. Like I'm talking about red wing boots and not a lick of English. And he just, he just ready, just doing kettlebell swings. Just going.

Speaker: You know what? dick There's got to be a science behind niggas just showing up to the gym doing stuff. Like what is the science behind like doing stuff compared to like a regimen? Yeah. Like what, like did you like feel like- Oh, it's time? Like you're just like, I'm just gonna walk into the I'm gonna do something.

Speaker: Like I'm about like, like, like using the machine, like crazy. Like, and it's common bro. I see like, bro. Bro, oh my gosh, bro. Can tell you about just like ah like when I go to the gym, like what people be on? mean, the O-Heads.

Speaker: O-Head with Hogg, three. First of all, bro, YMCA. I go to the That's why you got to go to the Y during like school hours. Right, yeah. Everybody be gone. Everybody's in. Oh, I get, you know, I'm like, why are you at the why you at the free weights doing this stuff?

Speaker: last The craziest thing i saw was this old lady and her husband, old couple rather, babysitting their kid At the gym. I'm like, you know you have a baby.

Speaker: You could, like, you the baby. Could pick a weight up and crush their brain. that too, but they have, like, a daycare. Oh, they got a daycare? I'm thinking, like. And a baby, but it's funny. I'm like, oh, maybe maybe the baby's too old for that. Uh-huh. Baby was, like, maybe, like, five. Okay, yeah. 5'6 maybe. My he's still a baby. Yeah, you could you got to go with it. The kid's on his iPad and then like they doing like squats without no weights.

Speaker: Just wasting the space, gang. Like hogging stuff up, putting weights down, not on the rack. Bro, I can't believe it. But that's just the type stuff I would send you. I would send you somebody at a gym like that doing that. I'm definitely, got to start sending you more stuff. ah But let everybody know where to find you because yeah, we at the end of the podcast.

Speaker: Man. Oh, also real quick. If you haven't realized, intro, outro of this podcast is done by this man. He blessed me. Remember I sent you to i sent you the screenshot when I was, before we even knew each other, i was like, yo, one day i need you to make the the intro to my podcast.

Speaker: Yeah. Actually, I'll receive, brother. Yo, that shit. Yo, the universe. Yo, you put it out there. What is that hat, the way? It's men's hat. to Mets. Yeah. Whoa. Hey, you got a Mets fan over here. yeah Yes. Yes.

Speaker: Oh, my God. But everybody know where to find you. Hey, man. Sango beats everywhere. Instagram, single underscore. Yes, sir. Cop the album. Cop the album right now. Like, actually, cop it. please street. You're streaming it, but actually go. please purchase that Yeah.

Speaker: Peace. I hope you enjoyed this week's episode with Sango. Man, let me just say, I'm i'm glad that y'all got to see a little bit of like this this friendship that me and Sango have built you know ever since his episode, which is almost of almost like two years ago. This episode was...

Speaker: His episode, that first appearance was so dope because I've been listening to him for a very long time. And we'll be talking about it on here. And for me, like me trying to really find ways to connect my Brazilian side, my Brazilian identity within the things that I love, like sneakers, music and everything that's around me. Like when it comes to.

Speaker: you know Finding something like that, that like his music, when when I first found it, was like it just like blew my mind in terms of just, yo, I didn't know this was possible.

Speaker: And so to end up you know meeting him and seeing how he like performs and you know him hooking me up with the album early and just hearing you know his progression of his albums into this one right now, that's out now, Rhythm and Melody, make sure you cop. I'm going to keep saying it.

Speaker: Make sure you go go check it out. Make sure you listen to it. Make sure you you cop a vinyl because that's what's hot right now. Do that. Do that. support the Support the bro right there. But ah you know finding ways to find where we can you know find that intersection of like people that have also embraced you know culture in that specific facet was so dope. So you know His first appearance we kind of really just like honed into his you know there sneakers around him. And and you know i had this idea and we both had this idea because we've we've been talking for a while. But like just the next time he comes on we talk about the album. and so Getting a chance to listen to it for a year and hearing how, you know, stuff gets just changed, what gets pulled off and, you know, the finished product. It was really dope kind of along the ride for it because that's such a unique...

Speaker: opportunity, especially for somebody's music that you really, really love and that you are a fan of, it's like nobody really gets that chance. And so for me to be afforded that opportunity, I was like, this is crazy. So I was listening to this album for months and months and months on end. And like ah even when he would make a small ah change or something, i'd be like, yo, why'd you change this? ah And stuff like that. So It was a very dope experience, and you know I appreciate y'all for tapping in if this is your first time checking out this podcast and you're wondering why we're only talking about music and a little bit about sneakers, even though the name of the podcast is My First Kicks. Check out his first appearance, Sango's first appearance about two years ago. i don't remember the the episode number, but I really implore y'all to check check that out because that was literally the first time we spoke. Like...

Speaker: it like He invited me to go watch him perform at Webster Hall. Packed place. Packed. ah and And then we spoke for like a little bit. And I was... That was like the first real time of feeling imposter syndrome of like, how did I get here? And ever since then, I've been trying to battle that and and and try to figure out how did I end up here? And how did I...

Speaker: End up, you know, finding my way into this room or these rooms or, you know, speaking in these specific conversations. And so I don't that does not fall short of any way of like.

Speaker: i i I don't, i there's in in short, like me thinking about this, there's no way I can ever believe where I've been and where I believe I'm going. Like that's the way my brain thinks. So whether that is imposter syndrome or maybe I'm just living in the moment, um I appreciate it all because, you know, we're only allotted ah X amount of time on this earth and I don't take any of it for granted. um i don't think, you know, if I'm, and also I will say that, you know, when I'm talking to people or even building a connection with people and they're of, you know, bigger stature or something like that, I will always feel like, how did I get here? Like, this is just something, um and I don't know if many people will relate to this or, ah you know,

Speaker: will find themselves in a situation like this. But if this, if this connects with you, please let me know because you know, I'll harken all the way back to my time at Dylan's candy bar and how we would have celebrities come in and I'm just a ah retail worker. I'm just trying to sell them candy. I'm trying to, you know, assist them because I was doing stock and trying to get people to, you know, just get out the store or get what they wanted or get what they needed. So for me, I was never really having like full fledged on conversations with celebrities, but,

Speaker: I was having conversations with celebrities. So I would go to the back and be like, I can't believe this is happening. So for me to have that go until now, where I'm in front of somebody who I revere and and think is so dope and think they're doing amazing things. And then for, ah I will still come away be like, I can't believe that's my friend. Like, I can't believe that I've so had this conversation. And the first time we met, that was that. I was so nervous. And at the same time, I met Coda that same night when we talked about it here, too. I met Coda. I met Jinx that same night. i met Corey Towns that same night. um

Speaker: And it's just been this whirlwind of... How did I get here? How did I get here? But I appreciate each and every one of y'all for tapping in with me and, you know, following me or following this journey. And i hope we can continue to build and build dope things and build a dope community and we can do all of this together.

Speaker: And of course, since I'm saying community, let's do the Patreon shoutouts. Let's get these Patreon shoutouts out the way. But you too can get shouted out at the end of an episode by signing up for Patreon. Patreon.com slash myfirstkicks. It's got one one tier. I just got one tier. $5 tier. All that money goes right back into the podcast. you know The goal, ah hopefully, ah as this keeps growing and keep doing, is to you know get my own space or have something that you know, that really signifies that you're coming to my first kicks and, and the Patreon is what's going to fund that. And I think it's very pivotal. You know, y'all know that that's like the main goal and I'm going to continue trying to push it and push it and push it. It's not just to, you know, pay for studio time. It's not just to pay for, for hosting. It's for continuously trying to grow this as much as I can so that, you know, I'm not,

Speaker: you know, rushing to try to figure out, oh my God, I need to figure out so time and space and this and that. Like the whole goal is to continue to grow this and continue to share people's stories and continue to have great, amazing conversations and understandings that we we all have been missing within the sneaker community or within our own lives in general, because we're so focused on just online banter. So please sign up for the Patreon. Patreon.com slash myfirstkicks. But let's start off. We got Adam Neustadter. We got Ross Adams. We got Derek Lipkin. We got Jesse Jesse G. We got Plox. We got Derek Hawkins. We got Jordan Kaiser. We got Samir Grandpierre.

Speaker: Sean hates you. Brett M. Dot And a the sneaks. I appreciate each and every one of y'all for y'all spending a hard earned dollars and supporting the podcast. It really, really means the world to me. Of course, if you want to rep the podcast, like I said earlier in the episode.

Speaker: cop of my first kicks t-shirt they're $40 plus shipping hit me up in the DMs or just shoot me an email info at my first kicks and also because I always keep pushing this please write in info at my first kicks calm I would love to read a my first kick story even if it's at like at the end in an outro like now or during when the guest is there and I would like like yo this resident I think this resonates with you um That is would help bring community. I've been asking for this since episode one because I want everybody to be part of this. I want everybody to really you know lock in with the podcast and you know let's build this. Let's build this up. So I'm always going to push. like Community for me is not a buzzword. Community for me is for real. I've always been... a person that supports community any type and if it rocks with me I rock with you and i will always do that unapologticically unapologetically because I think it's very important and without communities we won't have people that will push culture forward because community breeds culture

Speaker: And in order for culture to survive, we need community that continue continuously pushes it. So please, please, please tap in with me. It really goes a long way just to even have a conversation. I'm down to talk to any and every person. So hit your boy up.

Speaker: And, of course, if you want to read some of my stuff because I i started a Substack, which connects also to the podcast now on there as well, substack.com slash whoishas.

Speaker: ah last ah Last article was about community and culture. So community culture and its cost. I think it's a really good read. I'm going to be trying to at least do one a week. It's more about like my thoughts ah and more about like my commentary on on a lot of these things. And yeah.

Speaker: you know Just trying to get more of my my voice out there and stuff out of my brain because i hold on to things thinking that I'm going to turn it into an idea like a video and the video never comes. So writing is a lot, lot better. And I like to focus on making the podcast the podcast. So splitting these two things and not doing video essays and not doing you know short form video I think will help me in the long run and get a lot of these like commentaries that I have in my head out.

Speaker: Also, If you are – and you got to the end of this, ah oh, my God. I love you if you got to the end of this. But if you're at BFF and you're listening to this on a Friday, stop me in the hallway. I would love to talk to you. And I would love to have any conversation to anybody that's listening to this ah on a Friday um because that would they that would be so dope. I mean we're all going to be kind of roaming around and going to all the seminars and panels.

Speaker: But – If you started off your Saturday, maybe, or you started all your ended your night with this on Friday, definitely stop me so I can tell you thank you for listening to this podcast in person, and I can hear your stories as well.

Speaker: So please, please, please. pull up if you're if you're interested in learning more about the sneaker industry and people within the sneaker industry, pull up to BFF. I've been pushing it as much as I can. It's in Detroit. that's This episode, Sangles, from Detroit, well, from Michigan.

Speaker: And so this kind of just... The world, the universe is amazing. I got a really dope dope conversation for y'all each week. i'm not I'm not teasing next week's guests. I was about to, but I'm not gonna. But thank you again for checking out this podcast. Thank you.
