Cavs' Exclusion from NBA Resumption
00:00:16
Speaker
Hey, Cavs fans. Welcome to the Cavs Pick and Roll Podcast, the podcast for diehard fans by diehard fans. I'm Alex, and I'm here with my man Cory. How's it going tonight, Cory? I'm depressed. I gotta be honest, Alex, I'm depressed. Oh, man. No Cavs for two months, and now you're telling me we gotta wait till December until we see Cavs again. Yeah, I know.
00:00:40
Speaker
the way they're trying to bring things back with, what is it, top 22 teams? Top 22. Yeah, it sucks. Doesn't involve our Cavs. You know, I did hear rumors that they're trying to think of a way to involve the eight teams that are being left
Summer League Rumors for Excluded Teams
00:00:57
Speaker
out. I'm hearing kind of like, I've heard rumors of them doing almost kind of like a summer league with those teams. I guess, I did not hear that yet.
00:01:08
Speaker
But i guess what is the. Purpose or what are what are they playing for at that point i guess it would be my concern is it just the further develop you know players i want to play they don't play but it's and can run around like a maniac with garland importer junior yeah exactly just to get guys minutes.
00:01:28
Speaker
Yeah, good guys to mesh. I think that's one of the big things that, you know, one of the big counterpoints was to leaving out the bottom eight teams. Eight teams was that they weren't going to get as much playing time. They weren't going to get as much time to mesh and grow their young players.
Impact on Cavs' Young Player Development
00:01:43
Speaker
And all their players would be, you know, not getting any game time and sitting off for a lot longer than the teams that are playing. And they would have an advantage for next season. Right.
00:01:55
Speaker
So let's kind of break it down exactly. So the news kind of broke a couple weeks ago. It's funny how fast time's been flying, Alex, especially with in between episodes here. So the NBA agreed to come back. They're gonna be where, are they gonna be in Walt Disney World? Down there with Mickey Mouse and stuff? Is that where they're gonna be at? Yeah, they said Orlando on a- Orlando, okay. On a campus at Disneyland, Disney World, I guess, yeah.
00:02:24
Speaker
All right. So yeah, they're all going to be in a central area playing, which is good and fine. That makes sense. Not traveling all over the place. Um, but obviously the teams that the bottom feeder teams aren't going to be part of it in Cleveland as part of that. And that's why our season has officially come to an end and why I was crying and depressed because, uh, with the way the new schedule would be this season would extend all the way to October. I think October 13th would be the last day for the finals.
00:02:55
Speaker
And then starting like October 15th is when the draft would happen and free agency would start shortly after
NBA's Return and Social Movements
00:03:00
Speaker
that. And it kind of would be a condensed off season and basically the next season would start in December, I think like the 13th or something like that. That's a long time. That's a long time before we see some Cavs basketball again. We're going to have to get creative on this podcast, Alex. We're going to have to talk about like that time Harold Miner was on the Cavs or something. I don't know.
00:03:24
Speaker
Yeah, we can do some throwback players again, like we did last offseason. Yeah, baby Jordan. Baby Jordan. Baby Jordan. So what was your, I'm just curious, what was your initial thought when you saw that one, the NBA was going to come back? Because I thought they were dead in the water, to be honest with you. I thought it was getting too late in the summer. And then what was your initial reaction? My initial reaction was, I'm glad that NBA is coming back. I'm disappointed that they're leaving the Cavs out.
00:03:54
Speaker
But lately I've been listening to NBA radio a bit and they're talking about, huh, it still kind of sounds like they might not bring the season. I don't know.
Interest in Fan-less NBA Games
00:04:04
Speaker
There's a lot of talk with the players and the BLM movement going on. And if everybody's going to play or not, or, you know, there's, there's two sides to the argument about, you know, if they bring back the NBA season, if it'll distract from the movement or.
00:04:22
Speaker
you know, if, if coming back will help them on the, you know, have more of a, yeah, no, I, I get what you're saying. And, and I know there's those kinds of things going on. Uh, but let's go with the assumption that they are going to come back and cause the NBA voted on and agreed upon it. Maybe not every single player decides to play for various reasons, health reasons. And, and like, as you said, there'll be a lot in the movement and everything like that. But assuming they come back.
00:04:49
Speaker
They're coming back and playing. No fans there. I'm assuming it would be telecast still. As we said, no calves. Do you think, like, do you even have an interest, you think, in even watching that? Like, do you think you'll actually tune in and then on top of it, stick with it? Or is it more of, well, let's just see what kind of circus this might be and then kind of just be done with it? Yeah, I really don't know.
00:05:17
Speaker
I'll definitely tune in to see what it is like and what the environment's like. I mean, I'm missing the NBA, so I could definitely go for watching a few games. Funny, I was just watching some one of the WWE pay-per-views earlier today, Backlash.
00:05:40
Speaker
the the one before this one there was no crowd right so it was like did silent in there they had like four or five people cheering which is just like the announcers like the announcers still all jacked up in like a couple uh amateur wrestlers or i don't know but
00:05:58
Speaker
Yeah, it was really bizarre and it did it just wasn't great and like imagine like I I guess I here's the thing so like When you're like Joe Tate, right? We grew you and I we grew up in an era where Joe Tate was on the radio, right? I remember listening to Joe Tate a lot I worked Different jobs at night and stuff where I was able to keep the radio on in the background So listen to a lot of Joe Tate calls and even though I can't see it listening to him get all excited got me excited, right and
00:06:27
Speaker
But I don't think this is gonna have the same effect because I'm watching the screen. I'm watching nobody sitting there in the stands, but yet I'm watching the announcer go crazy when there's an alley-oop and it's gonna be so quiet in that gym that like all the players sitting on the bench can probably hear the announcer going crazy and I'm just gonna see that and just
00:06:46
Speaker
I don't know. It's just not going to feel the same. It's just not going to feel right. And that's what it was like. You know what I mean? Like just embarrassed a little bit for that. And that's what I was getting to is in this last paper view. They still only had maybe, I don't know, a dozen people in the arena.
00:07:03
Speaker
but they were filling the back noise with simulated crowd noise. But you couldn't really tell. The camera's always zoomed in, so you're not really seeing the crowd, you're just hearing it. They were simulating all the chants and everything, and you couldn't really tell that the place wasn't full of people. I had read an article that they're thinking about doing this with NBA games, and they're going to use
00:07:30
Speaker
the crowd noise from NBA 2K video games to simulate that crowd noise.
Tristan Thompson's Future with the Cavs
00:07:37
Speaker
Actually, when you say the camera view and kind of zoom in, they're zooming in directly on the ring, it's a smaller area than a basketball court, obviously. But think of the Staples Center, the Lakers, right? It feels like it's always just centered on the court anyways because they kind of dim the area where the crowd sits. So the focus is always on the court. They could do something like that.
00:07:58
Speaker
uh... do a more tight shot if if possible and like you said pump in some crowd noise we'll all know that it's fake but at the same time i get it i mean they gotta try to make it as entertaining and as close to the real thing as they can i think i'll tune in uh... well i don't have tv but i'll find some way to tune in through my old reliable uh... sites and and check it out for sure i mean i miss basketball as well i've still been watching a lot of uh...
00:08:27
Speaker
A lot of historic games I found out recently as well. I know I mentioned in the last couple episodes that the NBA league pass, there's a free trial for that. Assuming that's still going on since the season hasn't came back. But if you have Amazon Prime, just about everything that is on that app that's free is on Amazon Prime as well. I was actually surprised at how many NBA and historic games are on there. They must have some sort of partnership.
00:08:52
Speaker
So I've still been getting my fair share of just watching basketball games, you know, 90s games and stuff like that. But I am curious to see kind of how it shakes out what actually ends up happening here because they agreed on it. But like you said, there are some things that are up in the air. Some players might not play my play and I don't know.
00:09:15
Speaker
It's going to be tough if some players don't play and then there's going to be that, is there going to be an asterisk next to whoever wins the championship? Oh, well, they only won because these players didn't play and so on and so forth. So if they're going to come back, I'd rather see them. I hope they'll come back kind of full strength or don't do it at all kind of thing.
00:09:36
Speaker
Yeah, for sure. The other thing that's, you know, just disappointing about this is, you know, the players that we have on the team that might possibly not be coming back. And this is a hell of a way to kind of end on this kind of note with the team you're playing, especially a beloved player like Tristan, Tristan Thompson.
Cavs Championship Memories
00:10:00
Speaker
yeah no tristan definitely and i there's been listen there's there's like no calves news going on right now i mean there always is but i'm anytime i see any kind of article around the cows i'm instantly clicking on it and that's what i'll have to do for the next six months basically uh but there's been some stuff on tristan and there's you know i i get it it's writers have to write kind of every angle so i keep that in consideration but i've seen some stuff too that says you know
00:10:30
Speaker
Tristan would consider staying here because you know the legacy thing he would like to see his number retired but then i see in the same article under the one condition that well no playoff team offers him a contract will you have all that he would stay here and continue to build his legacy will no shit. No but the problem is you know the pie will be some playoff teams coming after him.
00:10:53
Speaker
You know making offers but then the thought is well with the market and. Assuming the salary is gonna go on because everything that you know has gone on in the salary and you know the money that the owners of loss. Tristan might not get those lucrative offers that he might think in the calves. You know can be in a position to offer more money than some of these other quote unquote playoff team so it's just interesting to see how it's gonna play out but i agree man it be.
00:11:19
Speaker
It'd be a crappy way for him, his time to be done in Cleveland. And same thing with Deli too. Deli wasn't on the same level as Tristan. Tristan could have his number potentially retired, even if he was done right now today. Deli's not on that level, but Deli's a fan favorite. He's a hero in Cleveland. And it's just kind of going to be sad too, if that kind of ends as well, you know?
Future of the Cavs and Young Talent
00:11:44
Speaker
Let me ask you this. Do you want T-TOT back?
00:11:47
Speaker
And what type of deal would you want him on? So as soon as we got Drummond, I was like, I think we both said it right. Tristan's gone. Like the trade deadline, like I figured he was going to get traded that day because there was still a couple hours left when the Cavs acquired Drummond. That didn't obviously happen. We learned there was some offers, but the Cavs didn't bite. And Tristan, you know, continued to stay on the Cavs and he played his role. He didn't complain. He still came in and worked his butt off, had some nice games actually.
00:12:17
Speaker
I think with Drummond being around, they kind of even motivated him even more. Okay, you're gonna move me to the bench. I'm still gonna do my thing.
00:12:25
Speaker
I would like to keep Tristan because Tristan's a great player. He really is. But you can't keep him coming off the bench and paying him $85 million for another five years like they just did. You gotta obviously reduce his salary because he's no longer your starter. I'm sorry, he's not starting over Drummond unless Drummond shocks the world and opts out this summer. He's not gonna opt out of 30 million or whatever the heck he's owed.
00:12:52
Speaker
So i would like tristan back maybe on a shorter deal maybe on a three-year deal you know give around ten million a year. See if i'll take that and go from there. The problem is is well no team come in offering more you put them in a better situation meeting he can start and be on a playoff contending team you're thinking like three or thirty million.
00:13:17
Speaker
Yeah, I would love them at that price. I think that's probably unrealistic. Yeah. What about three or 50 million? Three or 50 million. What do you think? I'm not very good at math. What does that come out to, Alex? Oh, about 13 million.
00:13:30
Speaker
I could live with that. And you know why? It's because it's Tristan, and it's because he's been here his whole career. He's a champion. He's done a lot for this franchise. If Gilbert wants to open up the checkbook and give him that, and it keeps him here, and he's coming off the bench as our backup, and we no longer have to rely on the Henry Sims of the Worlds. Hey, I'm all for it, man.
00:13:51
Speaker
Yeah, i'm bad at math here. It's actually more like 17 million. Well, all right. Well, you know what i'm saying though? Like the Cavs are, you know, this was supposed to be I believe the summer where the Cavs are supposed to have a whole bunch of money because a bunch of players were coming off the books potentially so he can throw a little bit of money around if it's going to keep him around and happy and With tristan nance drumming and love
00:14:15
Speaker
Man, that's four amazing big men, and that's a hell of a rotation. Even if one of those guys get hurt, you're strong on the rebounding end and size and all that stuff, so. Yeah, I'm sure Drummond's gonna opt in. I think it'd be awesome to keep him. What's that? I'm sure Drummond's gonna opt in. Oh yeah, yeah, he's gonna opt in. So we'll have to wait and see what kind of happens. Alex, if they do somehow incorporate the eight teams and the Cavs play,
00:14:43
Speaker
some basically summer league games even if love sits out and all that and You know the end of the rosters playing with the young guys, you know, I'll be tuning into that I'm sure you will as well since we're die-hard Cavs fans, but I Want to bring something else up.
NBA 2K21 and NBA Season Timing
00:15:00
Speaker
There's a very important event coming up this week this Friday June 19th Do you know what that event is?
00:15:10
Speaker
Take him too long. Come on. I'm gonna go with, huh? I don't know. If you don't know, man. It's the anniversary of the championship. It's the four year anniversary of the Cleveland Cavaliers winning the championship, breaking the curbs. That's right. My, my, my, how time flies. Four years, man. Remember like it was yesterday. I remember, I remember game seven, like
00:15:38
Speaker
Freaking eleven o'clock at night, maybe even later. Kids are asleep, wife sitting on the couch. I'm pacing back and forth in the living room in front of the TV blocking her view. And man, when that happened, when that last shot went up.
00:15:54
Speaker
And we realized we won the championship, man. It's funny because I started jumping around like a maniac. My wife is in disbelief and I can hear neighbors around me, houses around me. I just hear yelling and cheering and I even heard fireworks going off and stuff like that. It was freaking amazing and I still remember it like it was just yesterday. And four years, I can't believe it's already been that long.
00:16:22
Speaker
Yeah, that's awesome. I was in Florida at the time. I was on vacation. And I think we were in...
00:16:29
Speaker
I can't remember if we were in Orlando or Myrtle Beach or something, but we had a condo on the beach and I was watching it. It was late at night, of course, and the kids were sleeping. And man, when they sunk that shot, I couldn't believe it. I just sat there in silence. I wasn't jumping around. I was like, is there still time on the clock? You were waiting for them to somehow not pull it off. I could hear a whole bunch of cheering outside and cars honking. And this is in Florida. And that's in Florida.
00:16:58
Speaker
Yeah and that just that just shows you that you know it's it's funny how fast time flies and it's funny how quickly things change. Because for four straight years it was cleveland vs golden state. And cleveland obviously recognized by the nation was always gonna be the underdog they didn't have.
00:17:20
Speaker
You know, the four Hall of Famers, you know, and there was injuries a couple times, you know, with Kyrie and Kevin Love. And so Cleveland was always the underdog. And I think just everybody outside of the fan base in Golden State, in that area, basically.
00:17:35
Speaker
And the Laker fans that all came over on the bandwagon and all that stuff when, you know, they sucked or whatever. But everybody realized and kind of respected, like, nobody was cheering for Golden State. They wanted to see Cleveland win. And that's awesome that you were in another state. And that just proves that, that people are cheering their butts off because they were pride is happy to not see Golden State win another championship.
00:17:57
Speaker
Yeah, yeah. A lot of Ohioans migrate to Florida for vacation. Yeah, that too. Don't get me wrong. I go to South Carolina every year and there's a bunch of them down there too. Yeah. But that's awesome. So do you have, I think we've talked about this before on the podcast.
00:18:18
Speaker
And we're about almost, I think we're right around a year in on this thing here. Cause I want to say we kind of started around this time, maybe even a little bit earlier, maybe like April of the previous year or whatever. But I think we hit the anniversary before. I think this is the second time we've hit it now since we've been doing this podcast. So I think you brought this up before, but I think it's fun to talk about again. So obviously I went crazy with getting as much championship gear as I can get my hands on.
00:18:48
Speaker
Um, did you get anything championship gear wise or do you have any, what's your most proudest possession from, you know, the Cleveland Cavaliers championship? Oh man, I placed, I placed an order that night. I got, uh, like three championship t-shirts. I got like two championship hats. Um, I got, uh, the, one of the squares of the championship court. I think I got that a little, a little later.
00:19:16
Speaker
Say that again, because I think that's what I was keying on. And that's the coolest thing I think that you personally have, unless you have something else I don't know about. But explain exactly what that is again. It's a little piece of the championship court. They cut up pieces of the court and put them on a plaque along with, there's a picture of, I think it's LeBron, Kevin Love, Kyrie, the block.
00:19:43
Speaker
And uh, the stop, it's got like, uh, Dan, it came with like a certificate of authentication and everything. It's pretty sweet. Little piece of the court, little piece of the history. I'm actually surprised. I wonder how they pulled that off because that was Golden State's arena. That wasn't Cleveland's arena, right?
00:20:02
Speaker
So I wonder how they made that deal to basically chop up that court and turn around and sell it. I think it's Cleveland's court. I think it's Cleveland's court that they used for that finals. Gotcha. Gotcha. Okay. That makes more sense, but still pretty awesome. That's a pretty cool possession right there. Do you get anything else? Hanging in Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse now. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I've seen that. Anything else cool? I think that's it.
00:20:27
Speaker
Yeah, I kind of did the same thing. I did the t-shirts, obviously. I went out and bought a couple books on it, on the championship, which is really cool. I like clipping through that every once in a while. Tons of pictures, tons of great, just little stories and tidbits. I bought the championship DVD. That's actually on Amazon Prime now, too. If you have Prime, you can watch that for free right now. Cool. And my wife got me a Cleveland Cavaliers championship plaque.
00:20:56
Speaker
So it's pretty cool. It has the starting lineup at the time. So Kyrie, JR, LeBron, Kevin Love and Tristan on it. And it has kind of off to the side each game and the outcome, the outcome of it, each score of each game and the date behind it. And so it shows, you know, game one, this was the result on this and such and such date. And it goes through all seven games.
00:21:23
Speaker
and up to when we actually won the championship. And it's a really nice, good-sized plaque. And that's probably the coolest thing that I own, at least, or the most proudest thing that I own right now. But man, it's just, it's awesome. And I know what I'll be doing. I'm gonna be watching game seven again, probably this weekend. Like I said, that's on the NBA app as well.
00:21:48
Speaker
So you could watch that or like I said, if you have prime you could watch it there I'm sure if you have regular TV, I'm sure they'll be re-airing and I'm sure in Fox Sports, Ohio will be re-airing it everything like that, too So there'll probably be plenty of ways to watch it this week and Get a little bit of that nostalgic feeling again. Don't you have a championship banner hanging in your office, too?
00:22:10
Speaker
Yeah, you know what? I do. I forgot about that. I forgot about my office. We've been working from home, Alex, for months now. Alex and I both work in an office environment together. Yeah, I forgot about that. I have quite a few stuff hanging in my office, in my cubicle.
Adjustments to NBA Scheduling and Draft
00:22:25
Speaker
But I have... It's a miniature...
00:22:28
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, probably something. It's all hanging around. But yeah, no, this was cool. I got it as a gift, actually. I think I asked for it for Christmas or something like that from one of my brothers, but they have these championship banners. It's an exact replica of the one hanging at the arena today in Cleveland, but it's about
00:22:49
Speaker
you know, two feet tall by a foot wide, you know, so it's really, really small. Uh, but it's perfect for like hanging it in a cubicle wall or, or somewhere like that. And I also have a championship banner now that I'm thinking about it. See now I'm sorry, memorize, I remember all this stuff. I have a full size banner that you would like buy for your home. So like, think of like, if you were hanging an American flag, right? They made championship banners about that size.
00:23:17
Speaker
And for a while I had that hanging outside my house, you know, representing, of course. And after a while I wanted to keep it nice. So I moved it and it's now hanging in my garage, like over like my tool bench and stuff like that. So every day when I pull my car into my garage or I walk into my garage, it's hanging right there in the corner. And, uh, yeah, that's pretty cool too. Cool. That's awesome. Yeah. Four years, man. It's crazy. Might never happen again. Cherish it.
00:23:47
Speaker
And if you don't know, go look it up. Go watch it. Might never happen again or might happen next year. Might never happen again. Sexton breaks out and Kevin Porter Jr. breaks out. Sexton says he wants to be an All-Star next year. Garland breaks out. He could be.
00:24:08
Speaker
Yeah, I don't know. Hey, that's good. You know what, though, I'll say this. And we've talked extensively about sex in and all that stuff. Good for him for setting that kind of bar. Because you know what, he's someone that I believe
00:24:23
Speaker
That he'll actually work towards that like he believes he could do it. I don't know if he could do it But he's not just saying that for some PR move, you know what I mean? Like he's not just trying to say oh, yeah next year We want to compete for the play. He's like no, I want to be a freaking all-star Yeah, and you could tell by his worth ethic that he's at least going to make the effort to get to as close as that if he as he can and who knows one day he might Potentially get there. I don't know
00:24:49
Speaker
He's really good. He's really skilled. I just think the chips are kind of stacked against him because of his size His size and his position. I mean he plays Well, the thing is is what position is he but I mean point guards and shooting guards. I mean that he has a lot of Heavy competition at those two positions There's I could you know, think of Five other players right off the top of my head that would be considered before he would be
00:25:18
Speaker
You know what I mean? He almost has to wait till some of these guys. He has to wait till the Kemba walkers and these other players retire over the hill before he'll be able to even have a shot in my opinion. Those guys are just too good still. They're in their prime and they're too far ahead of him for him to come in and knock one of those guys out at this point. But again, what I like about that statement is just the fact that that's the type of goals that he's setting for himself.
00:25:45
Speaker
And again, with his work ethic and his improvement over the last two years, I don't know. I think he's going to give it all he can and believes that he can actually get to that point at some point. We'll see if he's in Cleveland when that happens. Yeah. Six months, Alex. Yeah. You had mentioned the Cavs, or at least the draft coming up. When is that? You said late October?
00:26:10
Speaker
Oh yeah, they can't. Yeah, so think about it. They can't do the draft until the season's done. So what I read when they agreed upon this is the latest. So like a game seven in the finals, what happened on October 13th? Um, and they said the, I believe they said the draft would be held the 15th, October 15th.
00:26:29
Speaker
And then pre-agency would start shortly after that, followed by training camp. Training camp would kind of be condensed. And so basically they have to do an off season in basically two months compared to the four or five months that they normally would get. So they got to condense it. Otherwise, this is going to affect every season moving forward. And another thing I heard too was they may even condense next season. I don't know how they would do that.
00:26:57
Speaker
But if they start in December of this year and play the full 84 game schedule over whatever course of time is, they're going to end late again. And they're just going to continue to be late every year. So they got to play catch up somewhere. They're going to condense the off season. And they're going to have to get creative somewhere else, whether it's shortening the season, not doing an all-star break. I have no idea what they'll do, to be honest with you.
00:27:24
Speaker
So here's the back games, which is something they got away from. And they might have to go back to that. I don't know. Double headers, MLB style. Have you looked into any of the possible draft picks yet? You know.
00:27:42
Speaker
That's one of my, I've never been good with college basketball and following it. I know we've talked about that as well. It's just, it's one of those things for me where I, I'm a basketball junkie, but I've kind of restricted myself from getting hooked on college basketball for a couple of reasons.
00:28:00
Speaker
One, the good players are going to be one and done anyway, so the turnover is just too quick for me. I don't have a college that I would latch onto in particular, like to root for even. And I'm not just going to jump on some bandwagon. I'm not just going to say go Duke just because it's Duke, you know. And so therefore I don't really know the players and I can read all I can read and I can see the mock drafts and they change daily and stuff.
00:28:28
Speaker
You know, but I don't know a ton and I have to, I'll have plenty of time to read up on them to be honest with you now. Yeah, maybe that's what we should do for the next episode is kind of look and see who's out there and
00:28:41
Speaker
who we think would be a good fit. We have some fun with Harold Miner first. Harold Miner. I'm usually stuck on Harold Miner tonight. There's players that people forgot were on the cast, Bill Lambier. You will not believe me. Real quick, Alex, I got to tell you this, because this is this was hilarious. So I have kids, you have kids, and what happens when they get older, they make friends, right? And they have play dates.
00:29:03
Speaker
So you're kind of putting in as parents into those awkward scenarios where you kind of gotta meet the parents and maybe even somewhat, you know, hang out with them and stuff like that.
00:29:13
Speaker
So my oldest daughter, uh, has a best friend that lives the next street over and they've been hanging out a lot recently, uh, since it's summertime and we're kind of, you know, at a point where we're done with the staying inside thing. And, uh, so it got in the known their parents a little bit. And the father is a basketball junkie as well. And he does, he knows a lot of old school basketball and stuff like that. We were talking about Hakeem Olajuwon and all that kind of stuff. I kid you not, Alex.
00:29:40
Speaker
Bill lamb beer came up and he's like, Bill lamb beer played for the calves. Well, yeah. And the reason we knew that was because there was a bad boys documentary, I guess, apparently, I don't know if this was something new or something old, like a 30 for 30 or something brand new. And he's like, yeah.
00:29:57
Speaker
I never knew that. So I started to tell about how you have a podcast and how my partner is a big Bill Lambeer fan and how you bought an autograph Bill Lambeer Cavs basketball card off eBay for $2.50. Yeah. And you don't even know if it's real or not. That's hilarious. Yeah, no, it was great. But I think it'd be fun to do an episode like that. Just talking about just kind of, you know, the the Darius Miles of the world and the, you know, Christian Iyengas and
00:30:26
Speaker
All those, uh, Jermaine Jones and all those players that once upon a time played here, maybe, maybe better players, uh, than those guys, but under Dan Marley and Harold Miner and stuff. But baby Jordan, we got plenty of time to, uh, to talk about all that kind of stuff. And I like the idea of talking about some of those college kids too. Cool. So Alex, you play, uh, NBA 2k right here and there. I've been known to play it.
00:30:55
Speaker
I've always been a big NBA Live guy, but... Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, every other year when they're around, right? Yeah, that's right. It's kind of hard to stick with it when, you know, they don't show up. Never mind. Anyways, 2K21 is... So we're also gamers just in general. I know there was the PlayStation 5 event. You were all geeked out about it and texting me and everything.
00:31:21
Speaker
Yeah, sure, sure. I'm over here with my PS1 and everything. But 2K, there was a trailer revealed for it. And I thought I saw somewhere that that's going to be released, I think in November? Maybe it was even October, somewhere around there. And I was kind of curious, you know,
00:31:41
Speaker
what your thoughts were on that because it's going to be released basically right after the end of the 2020 season. So there's really not much of a gap. And I think the one advantage that 2K always had was there was kind of this buildup.
00:31:56
Speaker
Right? It's like we're in a dry spell. The season, the NBA season ended in June with the championship. And we're waiting for September or October, whenever the game is releasing in that buildup. Now the season is going to end and it's going to turn around in 2K, 21 is going to come out. Do you like that or do you like how it was before with like the kind of the gap and the buildup and the buzz and all that stuff?
00:32:20
Speaker
I like the gap, the buildup. I like that they do the little pre-release, like the demo. I thought that was pretty sweet.
00:32:28
Speaker
Yeah, it's interesting because I think, I think I kind of like the buildup too. I'm saying that now, of course, by that time we still won't have Cavs basketball. So anything I can, you know, get my hands on at that point, at least I'll have somewhat of an updated roster, I guess. Yeah, that would be kind of fun to play with, you know, it's going to be weird. Last year, 2k20 came out in September, I think. I was thinking to myself, I was like, man, are they going to release this while the 2020 season's still going on?
00:32:56
Speaker
That'd be pretty weird. I'm still playing 2K19, so I'm way better. Yeah. Yeah, that's all right. I mean, it is what it is. Live19. Live19. Yeah, I still throw that on every once in a while. I bought it for six bucks, so when it was on sale. Yeah, me too. Couldn't pass that up. Had to check it out. Yeah, so I don't know, Alex, man. We got some time to fill here.
00:33:24
Speaker
You know, I'll be paying attention. Anything CAS related, I'm sure you will too. And we'll see what happens with the NBA.
