Introduction and Audio Issues

00:00:00
Speaker
Delicious, but yeah, we should have been splitting this. What is happening right now? And then Paco walked in. Oh my gosh. Did you fall off the kayak and you're calling us from underwater right now? The audio quality, it sounds like you're currently falling. It sounds like you're in a waterfall. I'm in a pineapple.
00:00:34
Speaker
This is all right. All right. So we have a surprise guest. Yeah, we got to deal with this for sure. I guess we could just let it go. But now that that seems ridiculous. Are you Paco?

Driving and Car Technology

00:00:48
Speaker
Are you calling us on your way to kayaking? Is that what's happening? Got it. And so this is just like car acoustics.
00:00:59
Speaker
You're not driving are you is this like go fed through your your car audio? But don't usually talk with your hands aren't you like Yeah, you're very expressive with your hands, so that's not good. I'm more concerned for your safety than anything else If you need a swerve across lanes in order to make your point
00:01:29
Speaker
Uh, I was doing, I had, uh, we were in California last week and I had a electric car rental with like, uh, I forgot what that's called, like autonomous level two or three. So like it, you don't have to steer or anything. And, uh, that was.
00:01:46
Speaker
Different because you're still not you're still not hands-free. You still have to like keep your hands on the steering wheel Which kind of feels a little bit restrictive but the definitely the weirdest part is you if you Hit the the turn signal and you don't do anything. It will do the lane change for you. Oh my god machines I
00:02:11
Speaker
I failed to say that the audio quality was also better in that car, dramatically.
00:02:25
Speaker
This car was actually aggressively like it's the way it stayed in lanes. It had like a strong preference for like the right side of the lane. So it always wanted to just be regardless if the car to the right was really close to the lane as well. I just wanted to just butt up against them in a way that I did not like. It was very nerve wracking.

Anniversary Celebration in Flushing's Chinatown

00:02:47
Speaker
Paco. So we are in the middle of a 10-year anniversary recap. Oh, yeah. So feel free to... Well, I mean, you've already shown that you feel free to interject whenever. Feel free to continue this Flushing New York food tour with us. Yeah, man.
00:03:17
Speaker
10-year wedding anniversary. Yeah, man. What's the thing for 10 years? Is it wood? I think it's wood. I think wood's pre-wedding. Here's your block. All right, so what are you doing for the big 10-year wedding? So we actually celebrated with the kids last month, and that was that Mexico trip. So we kind of went
00:03:46
Speaker
allowed for it and planned a lot for it and it was like, you know, it was completely awesome. But we didn't make an actual plan for doing things on the significant day, the actual day. So that was yesterday. Yeah, it was the 27th. But so she had, Betty had wanted to do, so we know we want to do something small. So we turned, it was like kind of a date night where we had somebody watch the kids and then she was really craving like Chinatown food. She wanted to go
00:04:13
Speaker
to just yeah, or not even dim sum like like actual like hole in the wall places the the man it's like those. I think it's like rice noodle that with like different like chili sauce and like it has that the peanut butter sauce it's it's like very comfort stuff that she had grown up eating like all the time and she can't get it out here. So we're like okay, we're gonna make a thing of it we're gonna we're gonna carve some time out to do it and then
00:04:40
Speaker
It ended up turning into a flushing and flushing has a really, uh, uh, big, um, it's, it's Chinatown and it's got its own kind of a thing going on. So we did a food crawl where we got a list of a bunch of different places and then all within walking distance. But, uh, yeah, so, so that was, uh, yesterday and man, we ate, we ate a lot and I, it's, it's not, uh, it's, it's important to, uh, to have a plan.
00:05:07
Speaker
going into it. That was what I was talking about because it's all heavy stuff. It's all noodle. It's all... I got bad news for you and for past me is that carbs is what we're talking about. Carbs is the side dish. It's the entree. It's everything.
00:05:33
Speaker
Yeah, but it's like, and then it's also, so we, I had a rough idea and then I was about what I wanted to do, but it was like, I wanted to, we wanted to hit a bunch of places that had different types of dishes. So it wouldn't be, well, we're going to have dumplings here and dumplings there and dumplings there or noodles. Like, so we kind of, you know, shook it up. So the first place was like these, um, like chili oil, uh, wantons, but it was important to keep it moving. So we wanted to, we got it, got whatever they're like famous for. Yeah.
00:06:01
Speaker
and keep on moving to go to the next place. But then the important rules were have something different in each place, have it walk and keep it moving. And then also, um, like they gotta be like cheap eats. You know, we wanted it to be these things that we wouldn't normally get. And then also just by one thing that we would share, that way we could keep on going, you know, so we don't get like bogged down. So it was, the first two went fantastic, right?
00:06:28
Speaker
It was these like chili oil wantons. Then we go to the next place, but it would have been heavy for just one of us, but we shared it and kept on walking in this other place. They had these, um, uh, like Peking duck. They, they have that all, um, all done and they just, they do, uh, they'll give you one, one order is like two, just two hand, um, of the, of the Peking duck, like already in the, in the bread and the bow with like all ready to go with cucumbers and all that. So they'll just give you one order.
00:06:57
Speaker
which is two of them. So we each have one. It's awesome. Like that was one of the better ones. That was like really, really good. Like I would go back for that. Um, yeah, that one I would say was really good. And then there was another place, uh, we ended up going to go into this, um, the small and flushing that had this food court with a bunch of different stuff. And, uh, they had these, um, uh, like these kimchi fries that were really good, but those were like the two ones that were, that I liked the best. Uh, but we made, we made a critical mistake. The third one is that,
00:07:27
Speaker
It happened so fast Paco I was decisions that were made and in the moment. So yeah, but it was Yeah, cuz so we went to this place and it was very Nondescript that like even the we couldn't find it and Initially like the sign for the place like when we went off of Yelp
00:07:55
Speaker
And, uh, we, and it was this very small counter area, really no seating because it shared it with a bunch of different other eatery places inside. Um, not, not, you know, no, no, no, um, no frills or anything, but they had, uh, they did this like noodle dish, this like rice noodle dish that you'd have a protein on and then they do the special sauce. And, uh, Betty was really wanting these, um, like curry fish balls that go on, go on the noodles.
00:08:21
Speaker
And then I was not necessarily feeling it. So I was like, I want to try something else. So right there, that was the first one. It's like, all right, we'll have two complete entrees. When the guy put it in my hands, I felt the weight of it in my hand, but it lowered. And then it's like, oh, you know, this is a little too much to... All right, so now we're not sharing. We're having our own meal. And then it's like, you know, it's a little bit awkward to eat. Let's sit down. So we like went to the counter and now we're like,
00:08:51
Speaker
all settled. And, and now we're like, it's the time of it. It's not the walking. It's the share. Now we're like, and it's the heaviest one. It's like noodles, it would have been different if she wanted a different like, if it was like that, like, I don't know, like the wontons, I don't know, smaller portion, but these were, we made, I made, we made this bad decision on the, for the heavy noodle dish. And then, but it was, it was good. And then at a certain point, you know, we had to, we
00:09:20
Speaker
Kept him moving went to the next place. And then we met up with her brother, her brother and his wife and they have a like a baby.

Family Meetup and Toddler Talk

00:09:30
Speaker
So we met with those guys up and went to the Flushing Mall and we had some beverages and then, you know, something sweet, but it was it was nice. It was like a like a four hour, like a food crawl. I would go into it with a different
00:09:48
Speaker
Yeah, I think so. I think we freewheeled it a little too much and then made those bad mistakes and then it cost us. Do you think 25-year-old Steve could have doubled that time? I think so. Well, I think 25-year-old Steve would have
00:10:13
Speaker
uh, mixed in alcohol too. And just be like, Oh, we'll go, let's start at the bar and then we'll go, we'll eat a bunch and then we'll go some, you know, so I think that would do some Jaeger. Oh my God. We went to this, uh, the last place we ended up when we met her brother, it had, um, the guy, my, my brother-in-law was saying like, we said, Oh, we do want to go for a drink. And they said, Oh, there's a bar in here. So in this, uh, in this food court area, it's like to the side, it was like a brand new place. So we go up, we pull over up to there and they had that
00:10:43
Speaker
You know, they had the the single shot Yeagers ready to go and I for a moment I had a flash of I said maybe we shit but now there's Yeah, but that didn't end up working so, you know, we so we had we both went for a beer and it was just one we only had one week It was it was nice, you know, it was like pretty calm
00:11:12
Speaker
nothing too crazy, but you know, um, and had something we don't usually have all the time. So it was a nice little treat. And then, uh, her brother comes in and they have my, uh, my nephew, Liam, he's, um, he, you know, he's still in a stroller. He's very much like about toddler age. He's like, is he like a surfer? So Liam walks in, he brushes his hair to the side, his full blonde.
00:11:39
Speaker
So you call me uncle. Yeah, whatever bro. Um, no, but so, but he's, you know, he's a, uh, he's very much a toddler. You can't hide them. You know, he's, he comes right in. So what, what is the, uh, the, what is the etiquette for going to a bar and you have a toddler? I,
00:12:07
Speaker
I know the answer. Yeah. Well, so I know when I, when we were going through this with Charlie and like we had all of our young friends in the city and we, we, we went to a bar with a stroller and we were told to leave. We were like, we do not allow baby city.
00:12:36
Speaker
And like my brother-in-law, he, man, he went right. And I don't know if we, we might've asked, I think that was the problem. Like when, when, when we did it, Betty and I with our kid, we asked, and my brother-in-law, he had the right, he did a couple of things where he just pushed right through and it ended up working out. Like he, he didn't ask anybody. He went right through. And then, and then we put to a side, it's like to the side with like this seated area. And then,
00:13:03
Speaker
So, so it wasn't really, and the kid wasn't fussy at all. He wasn't crying or anything. And he was just kind of doing his thing with the stroller. Yeah. He brought the stroller in. They folded it up. It was a nice compact one. Like whenever we were with the kids, they were bulkier, I feel, even though it wasn't that long ago, but this stuff. Yeah. It really has. Um,
00:13:31
Speaker
And then the other thing that's a little bit was taboo.

Bar Etiquette with a Toddler

00:13:34
Speaker
I didn't know this, but my, my brother-in-law and his wife did not ask. They were like, uh, Hey, uh, I was taught this. They were like, Oh, how'd you do on the food crawl? And I, we asked if they ate yet said, no, but we're going to get something. So they walked outside of the establishment to, you know, this, and it's a food court right outside, but they brought outside food. I would have asked and like, they did not, they just like, they brought a little package of like these little spring rolls and, uh,
00:13:58
Speaker
And, uh, and I saw the, the hostess, they walk right past her and like, she's like staring daggers, this little, this, uh, 22 year old, um, host, but she had very passive aggressively just keeps on eyes saying, are these guys, and she just kept on looking. She walked past and look back and I'm watching this and my brother and my sister-in-law, they could care less. They're not like bothered at all by it, but you hear, and there's like, there's like, like gangster rap music going on in the background and like, oh, it's a curse and stuff. And, uh,
00:14:27
Speaker
But so you can't hear like the crinkling of the bag or anything because there's music and all that But now it's obvious, you know now they're eating and so she the hostess comes gives water and she like very Sweetly I guess or whatever she's not yelling or anything says I just want to let you know we can't do outside food, you know, it's so like basically and then kind of motioning outside you're gonna have to go outside but she didn't say those words and my brother my brother-in-law is just saying it's
00:14:57
Speaker
like is it completely engages with their not doesn't yell there's no argument but uh resolve the situation by saying like um oh it's it's just for the baby like he won't eat anything else and like i'm not eating any of it like i swear i'm not eating and um and what is she gonna do she's like get your bables he was definitely eating it he was like nibbling on it on the side before she walked up but uh
00:15:23
Speaker
But then, uh, no, she backed off completely. And then we, you know, we finished the one drink. It wasn't like we were there all night and just, all right, bring it in. You know, you know, we got like ribs brought him in and say, Oh, it's for the baby. You know, none of that stuff, but, um, chilies to go. I don't know. But it was, it was a, it worked for sure. Then they, we finished up our drink, close our tab. And then we walked outside to, no, no, he knows exactly how to
