Hey there guys, this is Bobby again. We're still on trek day one here. We have just been dropped off at the access point for the trail. This is at kilometer

And I'm going to introduce you to Steffy Steff. Steffy Steff has joined us here now too. Hi there, we're about to take off. We're in Ollante Tempo where we just came from there and we're about to start the trek. So we're going to have to get going. But as we kind of move here, we're getting our sunblock on, sunscreens, our porters are loading our five kilogram sacks into the big bags.

Preparation and Training Insights

Speaker
They're going to run ahead of us literally.

and set all this stuff up pretty exciting we all just went through pulse ox testing and heart rate monitoring they're trying to make sure that no one's starting this thing on the wrong foot and man guys we're just super excited i have some net coverings things like that we've got a lot of sunblock on it is insane how intense the sun is up here

And what they say is today's the training day. This is an easier trek. We're anticipating warmer temperatures. We're doing this kind of mid-September right now. It's not rainy season. I think that starts in October. They're encouraging some people to wear shorts, but definitely hats, sunscreen, bug spray, all that kind of stuff. Absolutely. Thank you guys. More to come.

Hey there guys, Inca Trail, still day one. We're at our first spot of elevation changes. I did a bunch of stairs for this adventure in preparation. It's not totally terrible. I don't know what the incline is, but I do know my heart rate's up around 150.

I'm in my early 50s. I don't know, I'm in moderate shape. I play hockey once a week. Grap in Canada, so you kind of have to play hockey. This is where hiking poles are helping out a bunch.

Cultural and Environmental Observations

00:02:21
Speaker
Learn how to use hiking poles. If you're going up, most people put them way too far in front of them. You really want to put them where your feet strike, I think, and then push off.
00:02:34
Speaker
behind so you're getting that help as you're going up. Obviously my breath is a little winded. This is kind of what I expected. I see I'm getting close to the top. Once again, this is day one. I'm at a little community spot right now.
00:02:56

where people actually live in this national park. They have chickens. They've got a clothes line out with these beautiful clothes. It's absolutely amazing. But they're right on the trail. They're farmers. We've seen a couple of motorbikes, horses, and donkeys on this part of the trail.
00:03:25
Speaker
It's somewhat shaded in spots and somewhat not shaded. Once again, this is middle of September. We're ending off the dry season.

Hiking Challenges and Discoveries

00:03:43
Speaker
We're probably a couple hours into the hike. As far as distance, we're 3.2 miles in.
00:03:57
Speaker
I think today, and so what is that? I should know the kilometer conversion, maybe 6K. Today's not a long one. This is training day, as they call it. Figuring out how your water supply is going to work. Most guides will usually talk to you and say a certain amount of water is needed.
00:04:20
Speaker
What I've been told, hola, coming into a small community right now. It actually has a beautiful little area where you can buy cold drinks. We have an aqueduct kind of coming through here as well. I've just met up with my group who left me behind, but no, they didn't leave me behind. Steph, I'm on the podcast right now.
00:04:51
Speaker
So, oh, we got it all, man. We're not just YouTube. I think Bob's goal in this trip was to unplug and disconnect. Unplug and disconnect. So, I don't know how he's going to... Yeah. There we go. And that's obviously, you probably recognize Steffi Steff from there. So, Steff, talk about that journey you just went on. Yeah, yeah, for sure. No, no, please have a seat. Yes. I just learned about surfboards.

Reflections and Life Lessons

00:05:18
Speaker
Apparently in Australia or anywhere around the world, if you try to learn surfing, there are foam and fiberglass surfboards. The foam surfboards are much better for beginners. They're buoyant. You can catch just about anything, which is kind of neat and kind of cool. Right now, our group is taking a break. Classic Bob fashion.

bringing up the rear. It is truly amazing to be out here and to see how many people find value. Go Broncos! Find value in taking this trek and taking this journey. And the nice thing here is that even though we all come from different areas around the world,
00:06:05
Speaker
We all come together in the fact that we can appreciate nature's beauty and learning from history. Because if you don't learn from history, you are doomed to repeat the same mistakes of the past. So I look at it as everyone out here is on a journey of some sort trying to collect lessons in life, collect lessons from nature, lessons from history, lessons from our porters.
00:06:33
Speaker
from all of our group members. I think at the end of the day, we all are looking and seeking something. We're all going to learn something. I know I've learned a lot about people that I've met either very briefly or I feel like I've known for years, even though my interaction with them has been brief.
00:06:53
Speaker
So, in general guys, kind of keep out there, keep seeking, keep learning. Don't limit yourself. You know, we're all kind of, we're all living life in a cage with a door wide open. The cage is just the limits we place on our mind.
00:07:09
Speaker
And only you can kind of walk out of that. And it doesn't cost any money to do that. It just takes some courage. And it just takes leading a value-driven life. And you can do anything you want to do in life. So guys, get up today and go do it. And go give yourself a chance at living your best life. And never shy away from the journey. Till next time, guys.

All right, all right, all right.
