The market's finished last week so I've been really focusing on stories and getting together the business plans so I can figure out what I'm doing next year and trying to get all of the books that I've previously published in hard copy into an e-format so that you can order it from anywhere in the world

And I'm also working on getting iVolunteered into an audio format and I'm using some of the interviews that I did with some of the Vietnam veterans so that I can actually put their voices into it too, so it's really exciting. I'm actually going to think, I think I'm going to set up a summit with them.
Electromagnetic Sensitivity in Canada

Also, SAFE ENF has had a bunch of different presentations to the court because we're basically trying to get it so that people who are electromagnetic sensitive can have a safe place somewhere in Canada.

And this is a really big task and we're going to set up an annual general meeting so that we can move forward with that task. But it's definitely difficult these days because so many people are ignoring the harm of these people and we just need to help.
Adapting Personal Stories for Business

then I've also been thinking about changing your story and changing how changing your story really changes your life because every time I add something to my story or someone else that I know changes how their story is and so much of what we do is based on what we're what our business is so and right now a lot of companies are either

ramping up or they're closing down. And that means that a lot of people are either having to step into bigger shoes than they had originally thought, or they're having to change their entire story based on their next steps in their career. So that's really, it's been a challenge listening to people talk about their stories and how reinventing yourself takes a lot of guts.

And so what I've decided to do is I'm setting up. You can just have some story discovery sessions with me. So if you want to book an hour of my time, I will help you ask yourself the right questions for reinventing yourself so that you can start 2021 on a whole new foot, being a whole new person.

Well, you know, not a whole new person, that's a little bit extreme, on a whole new project so that you can feel happy and motivated again and you can get up in the morning and know that what you're doing fits who you are.

And the other thing that's been happening is I've been just setting myself up to teach several different courses in genealogy next year. I'm going to be talking about the seniorial land things. I'm going to be talking about filet-de-voix. I'm going to be talking about, or king's daughters, whatever you want to call them.

It's really exciting. I'm going to be talking about using the cadastra to get more information about your ancestors. It's really, really exciting because some of my land use projects are connecting with some of my genealogy research and I'm really looking forward to participating in the e-Genealogy Virtual Conference

and in the new Canadian Research Institute for Genealogy and these are just great steps forward in the industry.
Writing Challenges and Creativity

And the other thing that has been happening this week is that of course I'm still doing NaNoWriMo and this week has been a tough week. I'm supposed to be writing three hours every day and I haven't done it. I've missed three days

but I'm still on track in terms of that I haven't stopped but it really is interesting to see what takes me off my game. This was an exploration of process and I'm not usually a very process oriented artist. This is something I realized last Sunday in a discussion with a bunch of artists

And one of the questions that one of the people in the conversation asked was, are you more process oriented or are you more project oriented? And I am super product oriented. She called it product oriented. It could be project oriented too, but I want, I'm really focused on results. I actually prefer having written rather than writing itself.

I actually want the, I love it when I can check off a project and then I'm not particularly motivated by the internal mindset that you need to focus on if you really stuck on the process. The process is all about all of those internal struggles. How am I doing today? What am I doing now? And recognizing the kinds of things that you need to work on.

and so NaNoWriMo for me has been a process experiment because every day I have been either I'm writing first thing in the morning and I'm trying to figure out that's another thing I've been struggling on some of the days too like what should I be writing today

How? Because so much of the way that I write is I take material and then I put it down into a format and I usually have the material all together before I actually try to format it. Well, this time I'm trying to do both, sort of both at the same time because I'm writing material based on what I have and then putting in all of my questions for the gaps.

And it's really been helpful. I'm really glad that I'm using Scrivener for this because I find that the being able to see the overview of the project is really really helpful. I think this is a product that I'm really going to enjoy and that's even after this week I actually thought I lost all of my work because I

changed the name of the file in my computer rather than in Scrivener, which meant that it was deleted. I had to actually recur it. Anyway, it was a very hectic thing because I don't know how to use this tool very well. And as usual, I'm using the tool before I actually learn how to use the tool. Well, I'm sort of learning how to use the tool as I use it. And so I made what I didn't know was a big mistake.

I know that I won't be doing that again. Basically, you don't fool around with the file names of Scrivener. If you don't have the tool open, you rename it in the tool itself or the whole thing will be lost. It's really hard to open a file from Scrivener. Well, I'm sure you can do it, but...

Anyway, it didn't work the way I thought it would, so that was really kind of an interesting adventure. Not fun that day, but I was able to retrieve it, so it was perfectly fine in the end.

just to say that my, what should have been 14,000 words is only 6,900 words, but I'm still on track, so that counts. And you know what? If I don't make the 50,000 words, I'll know something about my process through this particular experiment.
Podcast Discoveries and Enjoyment

The other thing that I'm discovering is a bunch of really talented Canadians. Well, I knew that there were lots of talented Canadians. I've just discovered a podcast called Aquillo, which is a, and I'm a real heavy nonfiction fan, but this is a fiction podcast. It's a sort of horror mystery fantasy. It's really, really fun. So if you haven't tried out Aquillo, I highly recommend it. I'm already on season two. I've just been binge listening to it.

And other than that, this week is also part of the CFG, the Canadian freelance guild is doing a marketing challenge. And so I'm paying attention to different kinds of activities like this one, where I'm reaching out to people that I either don't know or don't know well, and trying to come up with things that you would need.

I know that we're trying to come up with some innovative ways to connect with family over the winter because it's clear that we're not going to get to see them in person. A whole year of not seeing my family in person has been really bizarre. I mean, my dad, the last time I saw him was a year ago this month. It's ridiculous.
