Episode 10: Canon Weaver - Marshall Islands, Kiribati, Nauru - Special Assignment - Outer Islands

Hands down the coolest mission! Canon Weaver served in the Marshall Islands Kiribati Mission from 2022 - 2024 and was one of the very first missionaries back to the Marshall Islands post covid. Building a mission from the ground up as part of the "pioneer group" had its ups and downs, but the biggest bonus of it all was Canon's special assignment. For 3 months Canon was told to visit all the outer islands in the Marshall Islands, scope them out, find housing for missionaries, and report his findings. If that's not the dream, then I don't know what is! After serving in Majuro, Ebeye, and his outer island jambo assignment, Canon continued on the dream mission as ZL/AP where he got to travel to more outer islands, Kiribati a few times, and even the forgotten (and forbidden) country in our mission, Nauru!

Bonus - Canon was a referee during the Micronesian Olympic Games in the Marshall Islands.

All right, we're on with another episode of the islands podcast.

Introduction of Cannon Weaver

00:00:06
darintingey
I'm your host, Darren Tingey. And today we've got Cannon Weaver, our youngest person on the pod just got home from his mission in the fall.
00:00:16
darintingey
Cannon, give a little background on yourself, where you're from and where living at now.
00:00:22
Canon
Yeah, what's up, everybody? i got home ah last, what was it, November, about six months ago. So I guess technically I'm the youngest, huh? I'm 21. But, yeah, I was born and raised where Darren's from in a Arizona, in Gilbert, Arizona specifically.
00:00:32
darintingey
Yeah.
00:00:42
Canon
And then but I was back and forth in Kentucky growing up. But, yeah, that's where my family's at right now is right outside of Louisville, Kentucky.
00:00:53
Canon
I got, yeah, just my my mom and brother's there right now.
00:00:53
darintingey
and Okay.
00:00:57
Canon
And then I got a sister over in Switzerland for college.
00:01:01
darintingey
Wow. Okay. That's, that's a curve ball.

Cannon's Move to Austin

00:01:05
Canon
Yeah.
00:01:05
darintingey
And then you live in Austin now, right?
00:01:08
Canon
Yeah. So I just moved here to Austin about two weeks ago. I finished up a semester at the University of Cincinnati and then moved here to Austin transferred UT and start up some, ah some work, some work opportunities.
00:01:21
darintingey
That's cool. You two going be, that's a sweet place, dude. That's, uh, I'm kind of jealous. You could be there for good football teams and just the sec in general. It's pretty awesome.
00:01:32
Canon
Oh, yeah, I've loved it so far. It's only been two weeks, but the vibe's great. People are super nice. And, you know, the YSA is not too bad itself, you know.
00:01:41
darintingey
All right. That's a plus. We like that. There we go. ah Six months post-mish. Here we go.

Post-Mission Life and Reassignment

00:01:48
darintingey
Dating back up. I remember all of that.
00:01:52
darintingey
I remember like ah quick back stories. So quick. But like after the mission, like the way met my wife, like I went to the first football game at DUIU and like there was a cute girl dancing on the field. Like She's pretty cute. And I had a friend on the dance team with her and I like got her number and like called her never like DM'd like looked up on Instagram, meld me. Like i literally just like called her and I was like, that's the most missionary thing ever.
00:02:16
darintingey
ah But in the long term it worked. So hopefully you got some of those bold genes in you still.
00:02:23
Canon
Oh, yeah. a It's been really fun. So hopefully it keeps up.
00:02:30
darintingey
Good. Well, kind of fun because I met you while you were on your mission. I went back to the Marshall Islands in August. ah Saw you in Long Island at church and then again on eBuy, which was kind of funny.
00:02:44
darintingey
But give a quick background on like a quick, I know you a kind of a mission, a crazy mission where you're all over the place, but like, i guess a quick brief review of your areas and then we'll kind of start from the beginning.
00:02:58
Canon
Okay. Yeah, it sounds good. So I started and so I had a reassignment for about six, four weeks, super short, right? i am I was in Tacoma, Washington, and i was being told by everybody like, hey, it's going to take years for you to get out, or not years, but you know a long time for you to get out on the islands because of visas and some processing problems they were having. having But I got an email one random day to say, pack your bags, you're leaving tomorrow with Sister Miller And I was super fortunate to only have spent about four weeks in the States before going to the islands.
00:03:34
Canon
And yeah you know, I went there with Elder Mahe, Becker, Miller, and just, you know, just a handful of elders, Karshner as well. And I was the youngest, right? So they'd all been in their reassignments for over a year, some of them, some of them nearing 18 months.
00:03:51
darintingey
Dang.
00:03:53
Canon
And when I got there, I was only, was a greenie. I was still four weeks in and trying to learn everything. And then there was like a handful of natives there.

Mission Challenges and Adaptation

00:04:02
Canon
And so I think in total, when I first arrived, there was 13 missionaries in Mejero and there was like maybe four on EBI.
00:04:08
darintingey
Dang.
00:04:12
Canon
So pretty small.
00:04:13
darintingey
So you're basically brand new, like restarting the mission after COVID. Like you guys were like the first ones back basically.
00:04:22
Canon
Pioneer group is what we called ourselves. Yeah.
00:04:24
darintingey
Pioneer group. That's awesome.
00:04:28
Canon
So yeah, I landed. up i was ah companions with a native, Elder Hezeron, for the first transfer out in Ajatake. And started off there.
00:04:40
Canon
it was a good time. its probably i Honestly, my first transfer on the island was my hardest for the entire mission, um just because I had to learn how to deal with a ah companion who didn't have the same cultural background as me, trying to learn the language.
00:04:54
Canon
And i you know I found myself talking down. um Just, you know, the area and the work in general, just, it was not the the best mindset for me to be in in the beginning.
00:05:07
darintingey
Well, as a talk, he's hard too, because it's like so long and skinny. don't know if you had a car or your bikes or what, but it's just like, you know, every house is like so spaced out and it's so hard to get to anyone to come to church because if they don't live close to the church,
00:05:24
darintingey
then they either got to find a ride or I know they had a van when I was there. They go pick people up, but still it's like, I just go to this church. That's like next to my house, like the assembly of God's real close. I'll just go there. You know, I'm sure the work just made it a lot harder too.
00:05:38
Canon
Well, you know, me and Elder Ezra, we covered all of Ajaotake, like from where the roads split in Laura down to Long Island. And even then I was like, hey, there's like no people here, even though by the end of my mission, Ajaotake was split up into like five different sections and it got even harder as we went along.
00:05:47
darintingey
Yeah. That's.
00:05:58
Canon
But yeah, was a
00:06:00
darintingey
Gosh. gosh
00:06:01
Canon
I was a Debbie Downer in the beginning, but as things ah moved on, when I transferred to EBI after my first transfer, that's when things really picked up. Elder Kakazu was my companion, and I was with him for about eight, nine months.
00:06:14
Canon
So definitely my longest companion, and that's where I learned quite a bit, honestly. So When I was in Agile Take, I was just reading my little vocab book, trying to memorize all the words in Marshallese, trying to get as much vocab down.
00:06:32
Canon
But it wasn't until I got to EBI that we actually started speaking to everybody and really just, you know, speak your language and talk to everybody as much as you can.
00:06:32
darintingey
Yeah.
00:06:40
Canon
Yeah.
00:06:41
darintingey
So I just thought to e-buy is that you said how, and then how long were you in e-buy?
00:06:44
Canon
yeah Started out Agile Take, went to EBI for three transfers. Yep. was there for three transfers.
00:06:53
darintingey
Okay.
00:06:54
Canon
And then when i and then I got the assignment of SA, special assistant or something like that. ah Like the name, the acronyms changed up all the time. So my, my role though, was to, you know, go to all the outer islands with Elder Peterson and survey them and speak with the landlords and reevaluate them to see if they were up to date with the the new you know standards for living and whether or not we could send elders out there.

Surveying Outer Islands

00:07:25
Canon
So that
00:07:25
darintingey
Okay, let's talk about that the standards of living for a little bit because first of all, one, that's a freaking cool assignment. You get to go to all the outer islands. That's so dope. Two, like the standards of living that has changed. That's a new thing. And I i didn't know if that was like mission, like worldwide or like mission specific or area specific. So what were those specific like changes?
00:07:50
Canon
Honestly, we were a little unclear about them too, because I think they were signed by the general presidency of the area. So they changed up all the time because you looked at Kitabas at the time. They had outer islands open, which were absolutely like just bungalows and sticks and ah floating water and stuff.
00:08:07
darintingey
yeah
00:08:08
Canon
Right. But you go to the Marshall Island side and they're like, you need running water. You need a toilet. You need AC. You need all this stuff. And we're just sitting there like, okay, like,
00:08:19
Canon
what is Is there a ah look here?
00:08:19
darintingey
yeah
00:08:20
Canon
Like, where's ah where's the line being drawn? But, yeah, that was ah essentially.
00:08:26
darintingey
They're like, Kitabas is getting a temple. We're going to make an exemption for them.
00:08:30
Canon
Exactly. Yeah.
00:08:31
darintingey
it's That's the most like Marshall Islands, Kitabas mission thing ever. It's like Kitabas is going to this way, but Marshall Islands has to do it this way. You're like, what? Running water, toilet, and ac on outer islands? It just doesn't happen.
00:08:45
darintingey
Like, this is not possible to get all of those, really.
00:08:50
Canon
For sure. But we did our best, you know. um We found a lot of houses that actually did have maybe not running water, but they had a place to go to the bathroom, right?
00:09:00
Canon
You might have to wipe your wipe your butt with a leaf or something, but, you know, there was a place to to squat down. But, you know, it was ah it was a great experience. I think my favorite was ah on Ujjayi, because i i'll I'll list off the islands I went to real
00:09:14
darintingey
Yeah, I want to hear them all, dude.
00:09:17
Canon
So we started off going to Eiling Labalap. That was the very first one. And keep in mind, when I got this assignment, there's literally no direction.
00:09:21
darintingey
Okay.
00:09:27
Canon
His ministry president was like, book all your flights yourself, figure things out. Like nobody's been there for three years. Just it's up to you, you know, do what you want with it, but be safe, you know, all the standards.
00:09:40
darintingey
No way. you a
00:09:44
Canon
So we instantly, because we were obviously hyped, were like, this is the craziest experience ever. Nobody gets to do this. So we, you know, Elder Peterson and I booked tickets immediately to Eiling Labalap just for a weekend.
00:09:58
Canon
So it was only like four days we were out there. But we were really lucky. i was really lucky to have just gotten back from EBI because the stake president, President Jellike, has all the connections. he is He's the guy to go to for this kind of stuff.
00:10:12
darintingey
Yep.
00:10:12
Canon
So we just called him up, said, yo, President Jellike, where do we need to go? Who do we need to talk to? And he gave us the list. And think that was the first one. He might have been a little biased because he grew up there. But we we popped out there and we slept in four foot by four foot little but shed. I'm not going to lie. like We could not stand up in it. We could barely even lay down in it. We had to like curl up in a ball.
00:10:41
Canon
And we were living out there because the old one that I think you and some other elders stayed at got destroyed by by winds and typhoons and all that. And we visited the the remnants of there was signatures everywhere.
00:10:50
darintingey
No way.
00:10:52
Canon
The whole wall was covered in like elder signatures. and we're like, dang, this must have been so sick to live back here back in the day. But now that was.
00:11:01
darintingey
Yeah. Like the years and years of everyone writing their name on there.
00:11:02
Canon
Mm
00:11:05
darintingey
Yeah.
00:11:05
Canon
hmm.
00:11:06
darintingey
Dang. That's destroyed. sad
00:11:09
Canon
Yeah, so we got there and we we talked to a lot of people, but eventually ended up not meeting the standards, obviously. You know, four by four little hut is not not going to cut it nowadays.
00:11:25
Canon
So we went back and then in the following three months after that, every two weeks, we picked a new outer island, went to it, came back, did a report, went to a new one and did that for three months.
00:11:26
darintingey
Yeah.
00:11:38
Canon
And the following
00:11:38
darintingey
How long would you stay on each outer island most of the time?
00:11:41
Canon
one. So most of them were a week. And Ujjayi was two weeks. But that was unintentional.
00:11:47
darintingey
Yeah. Yeah, I'm sure I feel like the plane that we guys like it might happen, you know, like, And honestly, I'm shocked they even had the plane going once a week to the Outer Islands. Because like when I was on live back in the day, was like, it was coming twice a month, maybe, you know, so every other week.
00:12:08
darintingey
And it was like, you know, the sun was shining. So to hear that you guys have like a week, that's pretty good. But I'm sure it's also kind of fun to be stuck out there for a little bit longer.
00:12:17
Canon
Oh yeah, we tried to extend our stay as long as possible with. But the thing is like Ujjayi doesn't have a single Manuia, doesn't have a single shop. Like there's nowhere to buy food and we have to eat.
00:12:29
Canon
So...
00:12:30
darintingey
It's the most like, I always heard this when I was out there and it's like the most outer island, outer island in the Marshall Islands.
00:12:38
Canon
Oh, for sure.
00:12:39
darintingey
Like most.
00:12:39
Canon
Like there's no sand. There wasn't a single speck of sand. It was all jagged rocks bordering the edges.
00:12:44
darintingey
No way.
00:12:45
Canon
And it was probably about a quarter or three fourths of a mile long. You could run the whole thing in like 10 minutes if you wanted. It was so small.
00:12:54
darintingey
Smaller than lie.
00:12:56
Canon
Oh yeah. Smallest one I'd ever seen personally.
00:13:01
Canon
But yeah, I think, so I went after it.
00:13:02
darintingey
Yeah. I mean, which I like when you fly into which I did you, sorry, when you find a widget, did you see the other island within the atoll or do you just see the one that you're landing on? Cause the other one's like super far away.
00:13:15
Canon
Yeah, no, it was only uja from an aerial view.
00:13:18
darintingey
Yeah. Yeah. Wow. Dang.
00:13:23
Canon
But then I also spent time on which which that one which should have been open immediately. I think they're actually opening it around now because the house we went to had everything. It had running water, had a shower, bathroom, had even air conditioning, had two air conditioning units.
00:13:40
Canon
And it had them on a wheel with tons of food, had a basketball court, great community. It was even like the grass was mowed. i was like, what what am I living on right now? This is like, this is crazy.
00:13:49
darintingey
it's
00:13:53
Canon
So,
00:13:53
darintingey
Yeah, which I mean with the high school there I'm sure like they try and keep it nice, right?
00:13:56
Canon
oh yeah. In the CMI, for sure.
00:14:00
darintingey
We'll have CMI there too Wow
00:14:04
Canon
So Woodjie was a a blast to be in. I loved Woodjie a lot. And then the only other one we went to was Jalowicz. Jalowicz fantastic. Super nice as well.
00:14:16
Canon
I was actually genuinely surprised because some of the houses we were looking at, obviously they were the best on the island, right? We were looking for the best. But some of them were better than that the housing we had on Mejuro at the time.
00:14:28
Canon
And that that was genuinely a surprise to me.
00:14:28
darintingey
Yeah.
00:14:31
darintingey
Yeah. i

Experiences on Jalowicz and Lie

00:14:32
darintingey
wonder if it's, you know, Jalowicz used to be like back in the day, where the Iroj was and, and then they've got the paved runway and then they've got the high school. Do they have a CMI there on Jalowicz as well?
00:14:48
Canon
um I think it was just high school, but it was a huge high school.
00:14:51
darintingey
Just the high school. not the college, but yeah, huge high school. And, and so you always teach us from like Fiji and, uh, all over the world. So I feel like they probably house them up pretty good, but, but like seeing those houses, you're like, Oh, these are like the houses in Ashantaki, like some of the nice ones, you know, they look just the same.
00:15:10
Canon
Oh yeah. And you know some of the chapel houses, just size wise, you know, they were like twice as big as a chapel house. So.
00:15:19
darintingey
Yeah. It's like you get an outer Island experience, but, uh, nicer house like that's pretty good you know that's a good life what way
00:15:25
Canon
Oh yeah, for sure. In the Jell-O's house, there was a TV and a PS4. We walked in and underneath the TV, like there was a full gaming system. We're like, oh dang, let's try to hook this thing up.
00:15:37
Canon
And unfortunately it was water damage and didn't work, but we could have been playing Black Ops 3 on Jell-O. yeah
00:15:45
darintingey
that's like ebi though like you walk into this tiny little shack and it's got a huge flat screen TV and an Xbox and you're like, what's going on?
00:15:56
Canon
Yeah. Yeah. So super.
00:15:58
darintingey
Wait, so list them off again. So I think level up. which yeah which deits Did you go to lie or
00:16:01
Canon
What day?
00:16:06
Canon
So I was on, i made trips. to all of these outer islands throughout my mission when I was um doing ZL and AP work and stuff. But Lai, I went, i think, two or three times, and i took the ferry every time.
00:16:24
Canon
Or not the ferry, but the military boat ride. That was like a 10-hour boat ride going against the waves, clashing against everything. I don't know if you ever had the chance to take that back in the day, but it's of...
00:16:33
darintingey
No, we flew.
00:16:34
Canon
Yeah. So I never flew, but I took a 10 hour boat ride through the night with the stake, like the the leaders in the stake. And that was the craziest adventure I've been in my entire life.
00:16:44
darintingey
he
00:16:46
Canon
Like I genuinely thought we were going to die like multiple times. It was so insane.
00:16:53
darintingey
Give me a play by play.
00:16:55
Canon
Yeah. So like it's the max, right?
00:16:56
darintingey
So why are you leaving in the night?
00:16:58
Canon
So there's probably like a hundred people on this 20, maybe like 30 foot boat. was super wide and it's like a cargo boat and you had people fishing for tuna at the back. We cut it was like a five or six foot yellowfin tuna. It was like 400 pounds.
00:17:14
Canon
And i you know, people were laying on top of each other.
00:17:17
darintingey
Oh my gosh.
00:17:17
Canon
I had a little Marshallese kid like cuddling up against me under my arm. Cause there was like no room for anyone to sleep. And then we played board games and just ate to see me the whole time.
00:17:32
darintingey
Did you guys sick? Did you guys puke at all?
00:17:34
Canon
Elder Becker threw up multiple times, yeah, but I did not get sick.
00:17:40
darintingey
So if it's 10 hours, you go in the middle of night, so you get there and it's like morning.
00:17:46
Canon
Yeah. So, yeah, it's crazy. It's like one of those land hoe moments. It's like 7 a.m. You see some of the the members standing out there just pointing out into the ocean. the and they're just it's such a crazy experience.
00:18:01
darintingey
i I followed Elder Arnett's email really closely because I know his family and and I know he got to ride a boat to Lie as well.
00:18:13
darintingey
And on the boat he was on, they had Starlink. So he was like messaging me from start like from the boat, like on the ride from Ebi to Lie.
00:18:20
Canon
Wow.
00:18:22
darintingey
And I was like, no way. He's like, yeah, the Wi-Fi is better on this boat than it is back in Ebi.
00:18:28
Canon
Yeah, that that must have been new because we did not have any Starlink out there. Even when we got to Lie, there was no Starlink. It was all just no connection.
00:18:37
darintingey
So when you went to lie, just quick side note, was my name still up on the house or had they painted it by then?
00:18:42
Canon
yeah Yeah, you were the first name I saw.
00:18:44
darintingey
Dude,
00:18:44
Canon
And I think underneath your name was like number of times pooped in the ocean or something like that.
00:18:48
darintingey
mean, you had to on lie sometimes.
00:18:49
Canon
There's a lot of tick marks there, bro. I don't know what you were doing, but.
00:18:54
darintingey
to the ah like elect to the
00:18:57
Canon
yeah So, yeah, I saw your name for sure.
00:18:57
darintingey
yeah dude i mean you had to on lie sometimes you just You're walking and you're just like, oh crap, I gotta go. just buck it to the lick side. And you know, there's other people pooping too. So you just kind of wave, pull pants down, squat right on the on the lick there.
00:19:18
Canon
Yeah, dude.
00:19:18
darintingey
hope I haven't told this story yet. I don't know if i did, but I remember I was, I had to go had to go poop middle day. and You know, I see a few people out there just wave and and squat or whatever.
00:19:34
darintingey
And that night we go to dinner with a family and she's like, Elder, Elder Tingy, like i I saw you out there on the lick side today. Like your butt's super white. And was like, thanks.
00:19:47
Canon
ah Yeah. a
00:19:50
darintingey
Cool. Yeah, thanks.
00:19:51
Canon
Nice.
00:19:51
darintingey
I didn't know you were actually like watching, but cool.
00:19:57
Canon
yeah Yeah, I don't think I ever did that personally, but there were a handful of times that there was no toilet paper and, you know, you you got to use your hands and wash your hands afterwards.
00:20:09
darintingey
That's right, dude. Honestly, though, the physical lick isn't bad because, like, one, everyone does it on that one, so it's, like, normal. But two, it's, like, it's an easy cleanup, dude. You got the water right there. It's super, super clean, super fast.
00:20:24
darintingey
Boom.
00:20:25
Canon
I think India knows what's up. They're doing that right now. It
00:20:32
darintingey
It's pretty good. It's pretty good. Um, okay. So, so how long, how many months were you doing this ah special assignment?
00:20:41
Canon
it was two transfers, three months.
00:20:42
darintingey
Two transfers of just being able to just freaking jumble around the Marshall Islands, go see these islands. And when you, you're talking to landlords, were you just talking to people that had the house? Were you talking, did you have to talk to the landowners, like the Al-Ala and, uh, or what is it?
00:20:59
darintingey
Al-Ala and the Royce. Did have to talk to the chiefs and stuff or no?
00:21:04
Canon
So for a lot of them, it was really hard to get in touch. So even for Ujjayi, when we landed, they had no idea we were coming. Like we literally just got there and they're like, oh, elders, you haven't been here in three years. It's nice to have you back.
00:21:17
Canon
um So we really just talked to everybody, right? Like, hey, do you know anybody who has an open house? Hey, do you know anybody who would like to maybe even build something, right? So we, for most of them, we had one land owner in mind who rented to the church prior to COVID.
00:21:37
Canon
And we would talk to them and we would, we would even negotiate contracts, full contracts, right? We would have prices and everything.
00:21:44
darintingey
Wow.
00:21:44
Canon
And I'm sitting here like, I don't think this is what I signed up for before when my mission was negotiate housing contracts, but here I am.
00:21:52
darintingey
and
00:21:54
Canon
And yeah, dude. so just talk to everybody. And we found a house on every Island. It's just when we came back and made our report, um for one, mission president didn't have Google Drive. His Google Drive was banned or blocked for some reason.
00:22:09
Canon
So he didn't get the the reports for a long time, and we didn't know about that. But even after he received them, he's like, yeah, sorry, the higher-up said it's a no-go.
00:22:13
darintingey
Oh gosh.
00:22:18
Canon
Not until Majuro is strong enough.
00:22:23
darintingey
So how much were these, like how much was the house cost on an outer island? Like per month?
00:22:29
darintingey
was the range?
00:22:29
Canon
I think $1,100 a month.
00:22:33
darintingey
That's crazy, dude. That's so expensive.
00:22:36
Canon
Yeah.
00:22:37
darintingey
That's insane.
00:22:38
Canon
mean, not compared to Austin prices, but yeah.
00:22:40
darintingey
Yeah, but for like an outer island in the Marshall Islands, come on, you know? Dang.
00:22:46
Canon
Yeah. I mean, it's the church, you know, I mean, we were getting three 75 MSF every two weeks. i don't know if I'm allowed to say that, but we were rolling in dough out there.
00:22:54
darintingey
Dang.
00:22:56
Canon
Oh, that's another thing. My first year of my mission, it was one 20 every two weeks, which, um, is good for a state mission, but for us, dude, a box of cereal is $14, $15, and we we're trying to just survive off of $120. And it's it's hard when your companion is pocketing all of it because he he gets to send it to his family. He's out struggling, you know?
00:23:17
darintingey
right I had one of those companions, who like, or he'd get the money and like, he'd just go buy like a new, like couple shirts and hats. And then like, he's like, I got nothing left. and I'm like, bro, like, what are we going eat?
00:23:28
Canon
says
00:23:31
darintingey
We're eating like rice and ketchup for breakfast. and Like Mac cans of mackerel. Uh, yeah, that I'm glad you guys got a bump up because prices, it it gets expensive in Marshall Islands. Cause like everything's imported unless you're eating Fish and fresh fish, which I feel like a Maduro you don't get like at all. You get that on that rounds, but ah like you're buying food and it's, it gets expensive.
00:23:57
darintingey
Even like when I went back and the August, I was like, dang, these prices are way higher and gas is way more expensive too. So if you ever wanted to do like all the plane tickets or boat rides, way more expensive.
00:24:07
Canon
Oh, yeah. And we didn't really have to deal with those costs being missionaries. You know, that was all helped out by the church. But I'm sure if you went to visit with your own money and stuff, yeah, that adds up quick.
00:24:18
darintingey
Yeah, it was pricey. um So, so how's it, you're negotiating housing contracts when you're out on the assignment too. Like, are you guys trying to like teach people at all? Or is it just kind of like, Hey, like you're just kind of introducing yourself. Like we're the missionaries, you know, you might have some more missionaries out here. We're looking for a place.
00:24:39
darintingey
I mean, you're out there for a week, so I don't know.
00:24:42
Canon
Yeah, I mean, in my mind, I felt like it was more valuable to make genuine connections with people, um that first initial contact, right? And we did teach a couple of lessons, a handful, but we weren't out there knocking doors like, hey, we're the missionaries. who you know Would you like to have lesson?
00:24:59
darintingey
Yeah.
00:25:00
Canon
We were just more like, hey, do you know X, Y, do you know this person, this person from EBI? Or do you, you know, trying to connect with people from the prior people we taught in the past, right?
00:25:12
Canon
And we actually had a lot of success with that. Like everybody knows someone from EBI, like it's just inevitable, right? You just gotta to dig deep enough. So that was my game going into it.
00:25:22
darintingey
Yeah.
00:25:25
darintingey
Did you guys do any fishing and stuff on the, on the islands? Like I'm sure you explored like every inch of the island as much as you could.
00:25:31
Canon
Yeah, so the first thing we did when we landed was to walk the perimeter of every island. And I love that, like, especially Wood J when there was ah ton of World War two like bunkers and Japanese bunkers scattered everywhere.
00:25:45
Canon
So we got the lay of the land. We walked the islands. And then after that, we just immediately started talking to people. And yeah, i mean, fishing, i don't think we ever really spent too much time fishing.
00:26:03
Canon
We just mainly tried to find a food source through the members. and we were willing to pay the members and stuff like, Hey, sorry, you know, got to feed us, but here's some, some money, you know,
00:26:12
darintingey
Yeah.
00:26:15
darintingey
Yeah. Like, which I like, they didn't know you were coming, did someone, did someone like, Hey, like you guys can stay at my house.
00:26:21
darintingey
yeah
00:26:21
Canon
that's exactly what happened.
00:26:22
Canon
Yeah. So, um, brother, another brother, jelicica but, um, he, he just let us stay in his spare house and it was a concrete brick.
00:26:34
Canon
It was so hot in there. And,
00:26:36
darintingey
Yeah. Those ones are the worst.
00:26:36
Canon
ah do About a week in because we were planning on staying there for week. So we only packed enough clothes for a week. And there was no I mean, we could have tried to do our laundry, but, you know, we didn't really have any of the materials to do that.
00:26:49
Canon
So we um after a week, the plane came in. Right. But a doctor had chartered it to give vaccines. So they took the plane back and we just watched our plane fly from our grasp.
00:27:05
Canon
And we had no idea how long, and then they didn't know how ah long it would take for another plane to come back. So we were pretty stinky boys for about two weeks.
00:27:16
darintingey
Would you an interesting one? Because um
00:27:21
darintingey
you would think the church would be like thriving there just like it is in lie because of the how close it is to e-buy, right? Like they send their kids to e-buy, a lot of them stay with family that have become members.
00:27:35
darintingey
And then like, you know, they are traveling back and forth so much. You'd think it's just like live, like we guys should be at like a church building, it's have ton members, but I don't understand why think Protestant church is like so strong there. Or like, what was the sense that you got?
00:27:51
Canon
Yeah, the there was a big Protestant sentiment there. There was a a large Protestant church. And then we also went there during Manate. we went there. There was two Kemems during the week we were there. Tons of partying going on.
00:28:03
Canon
And we were able to be just in the center of it. And we were able to give some speeches and just be a part of the community. So we went at a really lucky time. um But yeah, I don't really know.
00:28:14
darintingey
That's cool.
00:28:15
Canon
I'm sure there's some, you know, past complications with the church in Ujjayi, but You live really did pop off and it's huge out there.
00:28:26
darintingey
um If you haven't already, you should read the book, Surviving Paradise, especially if you like Widjai. It's about ah the guy who wrote Practical Marshallese. He goes out and lives on Widjai for a whole year with World Teach, and he's a teacher out there. It's such a good book. is' the For anyone listening to this podcast, it is the best book about the Marshall Islands and like what life is like in the Marshall Islands, especially Outer Islands.
00:28:49
Canon
That'd be a good book to read. Yeah, Surviving Paradise.
00:28:51
darintingey
Yeah, I'll i'll like link it in the and the podcast notes. Um, okay. So you do that for two, I know we've got like 15 more minutes, so I want to get to whatever you want to talk about most, but, um, then you went back to Maduro, I'm assuming, and we're on Maduro for a while.
00:29:09
darintingey
And then you became AP eventually or, or zone later AP.
00:29:13
Canon
Yeah, so right when I got back from that, Yeah, yeah, yeah. So there was no technical AP because there was only one zone at the time. But after I did the Outer Island trip, came back with ZL with Elder Kakazu.
00:29:24
Canon
And um yeah, did that till December. So I was about a year in at that point. And that's when things kind of just started changing in the mission a little bit. I think we took a negative spiral. There was a lot of disobedience going on. And we eventually ended up ah having a big shift.
00:29:45
Canon
and i went to arak with elder bushman at the beginning and in january of that year and that was a crazy transfer i love that transfer i don't know if you got to spend too much time in laura or arak but laura is such a fun board and for the remainder of my mission
00:30:00
darintingey
Yeah.
00:30:06
Canon
that transfer was used as like the golden highlight example, like all praise to the Lord district because they're so dope and we were eating it up. So we, there was a huge shift, right?
00:30:19
Canon
Like crazy disobedience. And then once January hit, boom, we were all obedient again and grinding and doing some really good work. So that was awesome.
00:30:29
darintingey
I feel like that's kind of exactly how, probably all missions are, but like, especially Marsh Islands, it's like, kind gets a little crazy. And then it's like, all right, you know, and everyone shape up a little bit. And then, especially like when Outer Islands, I know you guys kind of didn't have as many Outer Islands open, but it was like, if you guys want to go to Outer Islands, you guys got to be obedient. Like that's that's the only way like presidents trusting you guys to go out there.
00:30:57
darintingey
Um, but I'm sure like building a whole new mission, right? Like you're basically building the mission from scratch. You're going to have those little growing pains.
00:31:05
darintingey
And then, uh, you know, so many new people coming in and, and then that's awesome. It's a good turnaround. And then, you know, Laura, I didn't ever serve there, but served in Ajitagi and like, I got to go up there.
00:31:05
Canon
and
00:31:16
darintingey
It's awesome. Such a cool place.
00:31:19
Canon
Oh, yeah. And I mean, like, we're surrounded by water like 24-7. So it's not like it's like there's temptation everywhere, especially when it's like blistering hot. Right. So obviously swimming is like the biggest thing. Everyone's like, oh, how did you go swimming?
00:31:34
Canon
slow yeah
00:31:36
darintingey
yeah
00:31:36
Canon
i
00:31:37
darintingey
I think if you're sort of the Marsh Island's Kittas mission and you said you didn't go on in the water, you're lying.
00:31:41
darintingey
You're totally lying.
00:31:41
Canon
yeah exactly that
00:31:44
Canon
yeah
00:31:44
darintingey
yeah
00:31:45
Canon
but we had a great mission president who um he uh he was very forgiving and you know he was more of the he's the kind of guy who really followed if you teach people correct principles they'll govern themselves right So he was not very strict, I guess you could say, laid down a bunch of specific rules, but he just taught the doctrine and he let us govern ourselves. And I respect him for that.
00:32:10
darintingey
Yeah. Yeah. My, my main president, thought he was pretty strict and he was, but he was very forgiving. And, ah and he was like, i thought he always thought he was strict and like, but whenever someone messed up, he was like totally understanding and like, which is always good. I feel like it's better to be understanding and help people out and be like,
00:32:32
darintingey
you're terrible, you broke this rule, you know, you just felt bad about yourself. But I mean, that's every mission. Like when you go out on a mission, I feel like I was like, oh, missionaries are superheroes, you know? But you go out there and you're like, dude, we're just normal kids.
00:32:44
darintingey
Like, we're just normal.
00:32:44
Canon
Yeah, we're all the same age here. There's no magical like veil that happens when you step out of the MTC. you know You're still the same dude.
00:32:55
darintingey
Yeah, and same person, same stuff. You go out there, uh, I, and I like, I feel like on, on main islands, ah for me, I was just like, it was a little bit easier, but outer islands, just like, all right, like, we're going fishing or going to water. Like, you know, it's a little, life's a little bit different out there on the islands.
00:33:13
darintingey
And not saying like you're choosing to go play, but it's just kind of, you're living in it and you, and you part of the the community on the outer island. And that's just kind of how it is. But I want to hear about the story that you told me.
00:33:29
darintingey
When you're AP, how you went to now to first of all, you're going back and forth the kiddo business that I want to hear about this, I want to hear all about like the AP stuff.
00:33:37
Canon
Oh yeah, that story is crazy. So we, I went to Kiribati, I also think twice, two or three times for zone conferences. And this is the second.
00:33:46
darintingey
And why did you guys do that? So tell everybody why president because like sometimes some presidents didn't do that some did.
00:33:54
Canon
I mean, yeah, I mean, we basically just gave our trainings at zone conferences and then president was like, you know what, Kiribati like really needs to hear this. So obviously he had the budget. He only has like 30 missionaries to deal with.
00:34:06
Canon
So He let us fly over to the Kiribati side and do a training during his own conference pretty much. And it wasn't every time, but it was whenever we did something he thought was ah applicable.
00:34:12
darintingey
Cool.
00:34:17
Canon
And this time apparently he did. So when Elder Milburn and I were APs, we got sent down there and we, our original flight was around noonish. So he pulled up and obviously, you know, I think it was technically Air Nauru, not Air Marshall Islands, but, uh,
00:34:32
darintingey
yeah
00:34:33
Canon
crazy unreliable right so they said come back at eight we'll postpone it till tonight and we're like ah okay whatever so we come back at nighttime and they tell us like hey sorry but we're gonna have to fly you to naru and because the kiribus lights like the runway they're broken like we can't get you to kiribus tonight So we called the mission president.
00:34:56
darintingey
Hey,
00:34:57
Canon
He doesn't answer. We're like, crap, ah do we go on the plane? And then we're just like, screw it, let's do it.
00:35:02
darintingey
Kyle.
00:35:04
Canon
So we got on the plane and we so eventually got in contact with the mission president on the way there. And we're and we're like asking him, like, yo, can we go to Nauru as we're on the plane to Nauru?
00:35:17
Canon
So he he obviously was like, yeah, like, you know, do what you have to do to get here. Because he was already in Kiribati at the time.
00:35:23
darintingey
ah car
00:35:25
Canon
So we're on the plane, right? And for anybody who doesn't know, like, Nauru has strict rules against proselyting or, like, missionaries. Like, you can't do it. And there's been stories of past mission presidents getting thrown in jail for, like, a week or, you know, them being detained for being missionaries out there.
00:35:42
Canon
So we knew these prior, like, going into it, but we we just knew, like, we had to go. Like, no other missionary has ever done this before. So...
00:35:49
darintingey
Yeah, it seriously. I don't know anyone. We always talk like, oh, I want to go to Nauru. Because Nauru is the third country in the mission, but there's no missionaries there, like you said. And so everyone's always like, oh, we're going to open up Nauru soon. It's going to sick. I'll be the first missionary to to Nauru.
00:36:02
darintingey
But that was you, dude. You went.
00:36:04
Canon
Yep. And after we went, you know, when we got there, we initially took our tags off because we're like okay, I'm not trying to get thrown in jail. Like we're just going to be dudes in white shirts for a day or two. Right.

Unexpected Journey to Nauru

00:36:15
Canon
But when we were there, there was actually members, like there was a kid or this branch out there and there about 10 of them. And we met with them, had dinner with them, conversed with them, told stories and put our tags back on and explored Nauru for two days. And we even met a dude who was kind enough to give us a tour of the entire island, took us in his van and We got to see every square inch of that island and it was super cool.
00:36:36
darintingey
That's so cool.
00:36:39
Canon
And we eventually made it to Kitabas after that. But once we got to Kitabas, yeah, President Kendall said, you're the only two missionaries to ever step foot on Nadu as far as I'm concerned, like as far as I know.
00:36:49
darintingey
No way. You were there for two days?
00:36:53
Canon
Two full days. Yeah, that was a long reroute, right?
00:36:54
darintingey
Oh my gosh.
00:36:57
Canon
so
00:36:58
darintingey
So where did you stay? Did you stay at a hotel?
00:37:00
Canon
So, yeah, the hotel gave us accommodation. They just said here, have a crazy nice hotel for a night.
00:37:05
darintingey
Wow. That's so nice. And the, I mean, the island's tiny, right? It's not that big. So like, did like the kiddos people, were they at the airport or did they just like, how did they see you?
00:37:17
Canon
So they were the ones who owned like essentially the K and K of Nauru, the main grocery store. And Nauru is not an atoll.
00:37:22
darintingey
Okay.
00:37:24
Canon
It's like a full island. So the center of it was this huge abandoned phosphorus mine. that they had already used up and they got rich of it back in like the eighties or something, but used all their, their wealth and blew it.
00:37:35
Canon
And now, ah you know, they're back to being where they're at right now, but now it was sick, super cool, very rocky, lots of jagged rocks.
00:37:43
darintingey
A lot of, ah okay. A lot of people or no?
00:37:49
Canon
Um, probably about 20 K. Uh, you know, it didn't seem like there was too many people.
00:37:56
darintingey
Okay. And you guys made it out alive? No, that that's crazy. Like you're like, why you probably are so nervous a little bit.
00:38:02
Canon
Oh, there's another thing I completely forgot.
00:38:03
darintingey
You're like, oh shoot.
00:38:05
Canon
On the plane ride to Nauru, this was directly after the march Micronesian Olympics. So we we were doing the Olympics, refereeing and announcing during the Olympics, all the missionaries basically ran the Olympics in Mejero for a week.
00:38:18
Canon
And then we flew home with the Nauru Olympic team, ah which we had just refereed, right?
00:38:18
darintingey
So sick.
00:38:24
Canon
So they all know we're missionaries. are like, they just hang hung out with us for a week. And we just got to see them being like, welcome back from their home country and stuff.
00:38:34
Canon
It was so dope.
00:38:35
darintingey
No way.
00:38:36
Canon
It was so cool.
00:38:38
darintingey
These Olympians coming home. there i'm sure everyone's like pumped. I forgot you guys got to do that. Like that was, I remember seeing all the,
00:38:44
Canon
I refereed ping pong in the Olympics, and I've never played a game of ping pong in my entire life. It was insane.
00:38:52
darintingey
What, uh, what country took on the most medals?
00:38:56
Canon
If I remember... Honestly, I think Guam. I don't remember too well, honestly, the medal count. But Nadu was up there.
00:39:04
darintingey
Yeah.
00:39:05
Canon
Nadu was two second or third.
00:39:08
darintingey
It's funny is, and I don't know how it is for now, but like at least the Marshall Islands, I'm, I'm pretty sure all those people that come in are like the athletes for the Marshall Islands in the Micronesian Olympic games are like from the States, like Like they all like from the States and they fly back home to the Marshall Islands and like compete. Right.
00:39:26
Canon
Yeah. that's ah That's about right. In Guam, they're all like Americans because they were born there.
00:39:28
darintingey
yeah
00:39:30
Canon
like y'all are hacking the system. This is not right.
00:39:33
darintingey
Yeah. You're like, oh, you're getting a gold medal in the micro, micro nation Olympic games. You're even like you grew up in America. Like that's not fair.
00:39:41
Canon
Oh, yeah. yeah
00:39:41
darintingey
Your diet's a lot different.
00:39:45
Canon
For sure. that was That was probably peak mission, honestly.
00:39:45
darintingey
Um,
00:39:48
Canon
That was so fun. That was awesome. I love that week.
00:39:52
darintingey
good Did, did you, how many times did you go to kiddo? Did you twice? And did you just stay on Tarawa or what?
00:39:58
Canon
Um, some trips get kind of blended together. I went once with Kakazu, once with Milburn. And yeah, I, um, I went to, what's it called? the One of the outer islands.
00:40:15
Canon
Um, it's one of the near, no, it wasn't Abelian.
00:40:16
darintingey
Apeyang, Mayana.
00:40:20
Canon
No, it started with an A though.
00:40:24
Canon
it died We took a boat ride.
00:40:24
darintingey
And it's not the Roya.
00:40:26
Canon
The church got, they have a boat out there. It's called the gratitude. And we, we went out there. It
00:40:31
darintingey
Do you have to have a man?
00:40:35
Canon
does not sound like the right one.
00:40:37
darintingey
Jean Dina, if it's north or out of Nuka, was it north or south?
00:40:43
Canon
It was South, I believe.
00:40:47
darintingey
Okay. Interesting. So you got to get, they just like, what was that? what was the What was the trip for?
00:40:55
Canon
ah They had a ward conference out there. And i don't know, I think there's the elders we were with at the time. They were covering it. So they asked if we wanted to go on a boat ride to an outer island in Kiribati. And we're like, yeah, let's do it.
00:41:10
darintingey
way. That's so sick, dude. I can't believe you got to travel to all these outer islands, bro. Like that's so sick.
00:41:19
darintingey
um
00:41:19
Canon
Yeah, mean, if you know me, like,
00:41:21
Canon
I'm all about creating that dad lore and going on much adventures as possible.
00:41:25
darintingey
Yeah.
00:41:26
Canon
So but within the limits, right? I don't want to like be crazy disobedient, but, you know, I push the limits.
00:41:33
darintingey
yeah ah Like, hey yeah so ah like how long was the boat ride and how long do you stay out there for?
00:41:39
Canon
I think it was about an hour and then we stayed out there just for the day and drove back at night.
00:41:44
darintingey
Okay. So you for sure went to Abbey Young, which is the island right north of Donoa. Like that, that's the only way you were only an hour ride.
00:41:55
Canon
it was either that or one of the chains in Tarawa that you have to take a boat to, right?
00:41:55
darintingey
And it wasn't
00:41:59
darintingey
okay. It was probably Tarawayeta, which is north Tarawayeta. It's like basically going to one of the ayatollahs in Majuro, right?
00:42:06
Canon
Yeah. Yeah. I can get the name afterwards.
00:42:08
darintingey
Yeah.
00:42:09
Canon
I know Elder Ackerman, he definitely remembers.
00:42:13
darintingey
Yeah.
00:42:13
Canon
Yeah.
00:42:13
darintingey
That's still sick though. I mean, it's still like very outer, outer island. It's kind of cool to see the different cultures and how they live, right? Because it's lot more traditional.
00:42:22
Canon
Oh, yeah, and Kittarus, they got it a lot worse than Medjaro does, like 200 times worse, bro.
00:42:22
darintingey
Um,
00:42:28
darintingey
Yeah.
00:42:28
Canon
At least as far as food goes and shelter goes. Like, ah the water I was drinking was straight brown.
00:42:34
darintingey
Yep. Yep. Yeah, I remember when I got transferred to Kiribati and like went to Mayana, like
00:42:37
Canon
and So when I got back, I was just telling all the missionaries that were complaining, like, dude, you have got to shaping up. Those Kittarus elders are going through H-E double hockey sticks right now, and we're living it, living life.
00:42:57
darintingey
You know, they give you a drink basically at every house you go to and they just you just see them like you know get it from get it from the well and it's like so brown. like It's just brown and they boil it and it's still brown but it doesn't like smell as bad.
00:43:13
darintingey
And and then they like just dump like tons of sugar in it and stir it up and they go, there you go.
00:43:18
Canon
Yeah, I'm thinking a cake and the frosting's butter.
00:43:19
darintingey
Ha ha ha ha!
00:43:21
Canon
Like what?
00:43:22
darintingey
the
00:43:23
Canon
What is going on?
00:43:27
darintingey
I always thought it was funny that cakes were such a big thing, like in the Marsh Islands and Kitabas. They like love cakes. They just like, there's a cake for everything.
00:43:33
Canon
Yeah, donuts and cakes, man. I don't know how they get so big, but they do.
00:43:36
darintingey
Yeah. Well, I know we're at time, but is there is there any other stories or maybe what was your, i want to hear kind of like your favorite favor island you went to?
00:43:53
darintingey
like coolest Island and then the maybe like favorite area and then favorite of food or cultural thing.
00:44:00
Canon
Yeah, gotcha. Favorite island, I will say Eiling Labalab is the most beautiful place I've been to on the planet Earth. That one was insane, especially Ujjay, not yeah the other side.
00:44:07
darintingey
Okay.
00:44:12
Canon
So that one was the coolest, but Ujjayi was probably the most intense, I would say, honestly.
00:44:12
darintingey
Yeah.
00:44:21
darintingey
Yeah.
00:44:21
Canon
And I got to say my favorite island. like part of the mission or favorite area that's completely underrated to me was Rita.
00:44:33
Canon
I was there for just one transfer, but the people in Rita were so nice. And I taught so many kind people there that I just, I was so happy. That was like the happiest time my mission. I'm not going lie.
00:44:46
Canon
um And I was a district leader over just four elders and we were so tight. And I love that, that, that transfer. honestly.
00:44:57
darintingey
Yeah.
00:44:59
Canon
And then cultural thing, I love KMMs, bro.
00:44:59
darintingey
And then favorite cultural thing or food?
00:45:04
Canon
Jubilees, KMMs, those one-year-old birthday parties. Everybody's going crazy. The dancing. did multiple beats. Learned multiple beats. Christmas.
00:45:15
Canon
I only had one Christmas, um but it was, those are so much fun.
00:45:18
darintingey
Dang.
00:45:22
Canon
and When that kid ever Christmas,
00:45:22
darintingey
Yeah. christmas Christmas is the best. Yeah.
00:45:25
Canon
When the Kiribati elders came down for zone conferences, we taught them Marshallese speech. And we did that for somebody who had just gotten baptized. They had a one-year-old son.
00:45:36
Canon
And we threw a huge party for them at the church. And that was such a blast.
00:45:42
darintingey
Yeah, dude. Beat is so fun. I loved Christmas. Yeah. It's just, it's like a weird a weird line dance, but it's so fun. It's so fun. I don't, I can't explain it. And like trying to show my parents like what it was and they're like, okay.
00:45:54
darintingey
And I'm like, no guys, I promise you it's like 10 times cooler than this.
00:45:56
Canon
see sir
00:45:58
darintingey
I promise.
00:45:58
Canon
Yeah. Yeah. It's all about the the crowd, man. Like they hype you up. Even if you're so bad, they just, they do not care. They hype you up to the max.
00:46:08
darintingey
got, And they got the whistle, you know, telling you which one, you know, I never like learned what the whistles meant, but I know it's like, like in the next move or whatever, but ah it's just crazy.
00:46:11
Canon
Oh yeah.
00:46:21
Canon
It's funny, to like, I wonder when dancing, if it was always ah core part of the culture, because is like for certain right now, like just it's what everybody does.
00:46:21
darintingey
They all learn that.
00:46:33
Canon
You know, Christmas time, holiday comes around.
00:46:33
darintingey
Yeah.
00:46:35
Canon
Everybody's practicing for dances. So I'd be interested to learn about more about where the roots are of beats and cultural dances and all that.

Cultural Influences in the Marshalls

00:46:44
darintingey
Yeah, I think a lot of it is influenced by Protestant culture when when gospel the gospel came to Eblon. um Because for a while, it was like, you know they got to the Marsh Islands, like no one was wearing clothes. they were You know, they always talk about like they make fierce warriors. I didn't believe it, but I'm actually, I've been reading a book and like it's like, no, it's true. They like killed like every person that like stepped on their Island.
00:47:08
darintingey
So, and there was like fights within clans and stuff. So they actually were like warriors, which is weird to think about. Cause like the nicest people ever.
00:47:18
Canon
Yeah.
00:47:18
darintingey
um But they were just like super influenced by Protestant church and like Dan, I'm sure they had different dances back then before the gospel came in, because then it was like a little more conservative. Everyone started wearing clothes. People stopped like dancing as much.
00:47:36
darintingey
Because, you know, like when you think of island dancing, you don't think a beat at all. Like not a million years. You think of like the kid of a style or like Tonga and Samoan. But I think Marshall Islands was similar, just was a lot more influenced by churches. So.
00:47:51
Canon
Yeah, it's almost like a TikTok version of. Yeah.
00:47:55
darintingey
yeah ah Well, dude, was it was fun to see you like on your mission. Like I think a lot of the elders like looked up to you which I saw on eBay, which was really cool.
00:48:05
darintingey
And you guys came to visit. And it was fun to have you at like one of the parties that the silks, the silks through for my family. That was cool.
00:48:14
Canon
i yeah
00:48:16
darintingey
was just fun to kind of almost relive the mission a little bit with you guys. And sorry if I was like that weirdo that like came back this mission, you know, you like who is this guy, you know?
00:48:22
Canon
shit Oh, we'd love to have you. There's a lot of hype around it just because ah your influence online and everything.
00:48:32
darintingey
We're good, dude. Yeah, I mean, is it's the best. And thanks for coming on. you had Seriously, I think you had the coolest mission anyone will ever have in that mission. Being able to go to freaking every outer island, check them out, go to Kitabuz, go to Nauru.
00:48:47
darintingey
Like the Nauru is like the cherry on top, like freaking best mission. So...
00:48:52
Canon
Yeah, and that's just scratching the surface, man. i got so many stories.
00:48:57
darintingey
Well, we're going to have you on again, bro, because we got to hear we gotta to hear all the stories.
00:48:59
Canon
yeah
00:49:01
darintingey
That's what people It's like the crazy stories. But no, dude. Well, thank you again for coming on. I appreciate it. Amen.
00:49:10
Canon
Oh, yeah. Thanks for the invite. um appreciate it a lot.
00:49:12
darintingey
All right.
00:49:15
Canon
Yeah. um
