Thanks for tuning in to the Loser Kid Kid Ball Podcast.
00:00:10
Speaker
I am Josh Roop.
00:00:11
Speaker
With me, my co-captain as always.
00:00:13
Speaker
Scott Larson.
00:00:14
Speaker
And did I say we're on episode 132?
00:00:17
Speaker
You did not yet, but now you did.
00:00:19
Speaker
Now I did.
00:00:19
Speaker
Okay.
00:00:20
Speaker
And

New Pinball Game Reveals and Community Shoutouts

00:00:21
Speaker
there's been game reveals.
00:00:22
Speaker
If you're looking for that Barrios barbecue, it's out now.
00:00:27
Speaker
There's more rumored games coming up.
00:00:30
Speaker
And Stern.
00:00:31
Speaker
Stern might even have one coming out soon.
00:00:33
Speaker
If you're going to buy these games, who are you going to hit up, Scott?
00:00:36
Speaker
I'm going to call Zach and Nicole Minia flipping out pinball.
00:00:38
Speaker
They have always been great to us.
00:00:40
Speaker
And you know what?
00:00:41
Speaker
There's even some new packages.
00:00:42
Speaker
If you want to upgrade your Foo Fighters, you can get that topper.
00:00:45
Speaker
You can get the R-Blades.
00:00:47
Speaker
But you know what?
00:00:48
Speaker
Really, if you want anything pinball, they're always a good resource.
00:00:50
Speaker
They've always been a good friend to us.
00:00:52
Speaker
Yep, and definitely.
00:00:53
Speaker
And happy birthday to their youngest today, Fletcher.
00:00:57
Speaker
They just posted on Facebook, so I assume it's fine.
00:00:59
Speaker
Yeah, so it's public.
00:01:00
Speaker
Yeah, it's public.
00:01:01
Speaker
Cool.
00:01:02
Speaker
Hey,

Travel Anecdote and Texas Pinball Festival Preview

00:01:03
Speaker
there has been a ton of news, weirdly enough.
00:01:05
Speaker
It kind of compounded over the last... We tried to record last Saturday, and it's kind of imploded, right?
00:01:10
Speaker
Yeah, well...
00:01:10
Speaker
Well, it was a little bit of everything because you and I were both traveling.
00:01:14
Speaker
Like, okay, I need to stop traveling.
00:01:16
Speaker
I like traveling, but we went to a tennis tournament and it was kind of crazy, just the travel logistics.
00:01:24
Speaker
And we just couldn't, we couldn't make it work.
00:01:27
Speaker
So where was, was it, was the tennis thing here in Utah or where was it at?
00:01:31
Speaker
No, no.
00:01:31
Speaker
The tennis thing was in California.
00:01:33
Speaker
It's actually, it's a really big tennis tournament.
00:01:35
Speaker
It's a, it's Indian Wells.
00:01:37
Speaker
So it's in Palm desert.
00:01:39
Speaker
And you know, you know how they, there's a lot of people that say, you know, the fifth major of stuff, if there is a fifth major in tennis, it would be this one.
00:01:46
Speaker
So aside from the U S open, Australian open, uh, Wimbledon and, um,
00:01:52
Speaker
Australian?
00:01:53
Speaker
Did I say Australian?
00:01:56
Speaker
French.
00:01:56
Speaker
French.
00:01:57
Speaker
Yes.
00:01:57
Speaker
So those are the four big ones, but this is, this is considered a big one.
00:02:02
Speaker
And it was, it was a lot of fun.
00:02:03
Speaker
We just went and saw tons of tennis.
00:02:06
Speaker
And we actually had, there was a delay in game because of a bee swarm.
00:02:15
Speaker
A bee swarm.

Barry O's Barbecue Challenge Pinball Game

00:02:16
Speaker
Not kidding.
00:02:17
Speaker
They swarmed in and they actually got onto the drone.
00:02:22
Speaker
So go look it up.
00:02:22
Speaker
It's hilarious.
00:02:23
Speaker
Because they delayed for about two hours while they called a beekeeper to come in and vacuum the bees.
00:02:30
Speaker
So you're telling me if you really want to mess with your competition, you slather the drone and like flower pollen.
00:02:39
Speaker
I don't know.
00:02:39
Speaker
It was it was legitimately crazy that like they went and swarmed and like, you know, the spider drones that like go up and take camera.
00:02:46
Speaker
Yeah, it was on that.
00:02:48
Speaker
I'll have to shoot you a picture.
00:02:50
Speaker
It really was surprising.
00:02:51
Speaker
Thankfully, we weren't there that day.
00:02:53
Speaker
We were actually watching on TV.
00:02:54
Speaker
You just want out of this wind because I don't know about your neighborhood, but I know Eagle Mountain, which is across the freeway and down a little bit.
00:03:03
Speaker
Houses were like consumed by tumbleweeds and they were using plow trucks to like get them off the road so you could still drive.
00:03:11
Speaker
It's been insane with the wind here.
00:03:13
Speaker
So this is Pinball and Weather brought to you by Flippin' Out Pinball.
00:03:18
Speaker
All righty.
00:03:19
Speaker
So Texas Pinball Festival is going on right now.
00:03:21
Speaker
There's plenty going on.
00:03:23
Speaker
It's insane to see these pictures.
00:03:25
Speaker
It's crazy.
00:03:27
Speaker
Don from Don's Pinball Podcast is dressed up like Wonka and going around with his mic staff.
00:03:35
Speaker
I guess, dubsing people, knighting them in

Pinball Design, Legalities, and Market Impact

00:03:38
Speaker
pinball.
00:03:38
Speaker
I don't know.
00:03:40
Speaker
You know, Eclectic Gamers is down there.
00:03:41
Speaker
It looks like they're enjoying it.
00:03:43
Speaker
Everything just it looks like a party.
00:03:45
Speaker
If you're there, I'm slightly jealous.
00:03:46
Speaker
We're going to try to get this out.
00:03:47
Speaker
So you guys have something to listen to on the way back from Texas Pinball Festival.
00:03:51
Speaker
But yeah, man, there's so much going on.
00:03:54
Speaker
Let's talk the first thing.
00:03:56
Speaker
That's kind of the biggest news is the newest release, right?
00:04:00
Speaker
So like Barry O's Barbecue Challenge.
00:04:02
Speaker
Okay.
00:04:02
Speaker
By the way, when you said it, and I just thought, I...
00:04:07
Speaker
I heard it as like Spanish, like barrio.
00:04:11
Speaker
Barrio.
00:04:12
Speaker
It's just neighborhood.
00:04:12
Speaker
So it's a barrio barbecue challenge, which is kind of hilarious and awesome at the same time.
00:04:17
Speaker
Barrio.
00:04:18
Speaker
But yeah, Barry O's.
00:04:21
Speaker
This is apparently his last design before he passed away.
00:04:27
Speaker
And the team at American Pinball...
00:04:30
Speaker
and made a group effort to bring it into production is that how you understand is that how you understand the story that's that's how i understand the story but this this design looks oddly close to one of their previous designs too yeah it does it does i did i did learn though because we got talking about this right we got talking about how if you have a layout how do you not get sued when it's that close and obviously it's american pinball they're not going to sue themselves right
00:04:57
Speaker
Like for plagiarism.
00:04:58
Speaker
My understanding to patent a play field is near impossible.
00:05:04
Speaker
Yeah, it would be because you could even argue there.
00:05:08
Speaker
Okay.
00:05:09
Speaker
I know that in trademarks, they have to modify the play field by...
00:05:14
Speaker
you know, like, like 10 to 20% or something like that.
00:05:18
Speaker
So you actually see the reports.
00:05:21
Speaker
And when it talks about the economy, it's like new products coming out.
00:05:24
Speaker
And one of the products is like Doritos.
00:05:27
Speaker
Yeah.
00:05:28
Speaker
Because they changed the bag or, or Pepsi, Pepsi just updated their logo.
00:05:33
Speaker
And so that actually counts as a new product.
00:05:36
Speaker
Whether or not that actually has to do with pinball, but it,
00:05:40
Speaker
probably dying at some point there's only so much square footage you have in in a design right well i mean really if that were the case do you think stern could sue jjp for the likeness of two flippers on the bottom and a pop but you know pop bumper nest near the flipper yeah i don't know yeah my understanding is you just have to move a couple things on the play field and it's you're good like as long as it's not as long as it's not a one for one which this is not a one for one yeah but
00:06:09
Speaker
But design wise, let's get back to this design.
00:06:10
Speaker
So Berrio's final design, right?
00:06:14
Speaker
Barbecue.
00:06:17
Speaker
Is it a, is it, is a strange a theme to you as it is to me?
00:06:20
Speaker
Like when I think pinball.
00:06:22
Speaker
Yeah.
00:06:22
Speaker
I think barbecue.
00:06:23
Speaker
Cause we talk Texas pinball festival, but it's because I'm going to go down there and eat barbecue.
00:06:27
Speaker
It's not because I want to play barbecue.
00:06:28
Speaker
I don't know.
00:06:29
Speaker
It's just, it's,
00:06:30
Speaker
Okay, so let's talk about the Bally Williams era, right?

The Evolution of Pinball Themes and Trends

00:06:37
Speaker
Okay, so let's even go back to mid-80s.
00:06:41
Speaker
They have high speed.
00:06:44
Speaker
They have earthquake.
00:06:45
Speaker
They have whirlwind.
00:06:48
Speaker
Yeah, they have the odd Addams Family and Twilight Zone in there, but they also have Attack from Mars, Medieval Madness.
00:06:56
Speaker
So they have all these...
00:06:58
Speaker
kind of campy themes that really have nothing to do with a license.
00:07:03
Speaker
And so this feels a little bit like they're trying to call back upon that, that era when people were used to, Hey, this is just kind of a fun shooter thing.
00:07:13
Speaker
Yeah.
00:07:14
Speaker
The challenge is we're also 30 years farther away.
00:07:19
Speaker
in the pinball cycle.
00:07:21
Speaker
So would a theme like that resonate today than it did back then?
00:07:28
Speaker
That's going to be one, their biggest challenge if you're just talking theme alone.
00:07:35
Speaker
Well, and I would argue they didn't sell well back then.
00:07:38
Speaker
Granted, you know, like you said.
00:07:40
Speaker
But they went to arcades.
00:07:41
Speaker
They just went to arcades, right?
00:07:43
Speaker
And people who were into pinball would be like, okay, I'm going to go shoot this.
00:07:46
Speaker
So it cost them a buck.
00:07:48
Speaker
But still, like, we're talking three-year difference between what, Adam's Family and the original Medieval Madness?
00:07:55
Speaker
Mm-hmm.
00:07:55
Speaker
No, sorry, we're about five years.
00:07:56
Speaker
No, it's a little more.
00:07:57
Speaker
More like five.
00:07:58
Speaker
Five years.
00:07:58
Speaker
But still, 4,000 units of medieval madness wasn't terribly amazing for that time.
00:08:05
Speaker
My understanding is these games weren't highly sought after when they first came out.
00:08:10
Speaker
It's not until time started getting under the belt of the pinball community, and then they realized this is an amazing game.
00:08:18
Speaker
Next thing you know, Bally Williams is already out of business, and these things are hard to find because they only made 4,000 of them.
00:08:23
Speaker
It's the classic supply and demand, right?
00:08:25
Speaker
It's supply and demand.
00:08:26
Speaker
Okay, Cactus Canyon, it's a fun game, and I own the remake.
00:08:31
Speaker
Is it a $20,000 game?
00:08:34
Speaker
Absolutely not.
00:08:35
Speaker
There's no way, especially in the current state it was manufactured, but it was going for around that back then.
00:08:41
Speaker
Yeah.
00:08:42
Speaker
But my point being is the reason these are classics, the reason they work as an original theme is they never sold as an original theme originally.
00:08:49
Speaker
Like, they never...
00:08:51
Speaker
they weren't flying off the shelves as an original theme.
00:08:53
Speaker
They were made an original thing because Valley Williams was trying to cut some costs and it, it didn't help the bottom line as much as they were hoping it would.
00:09:02
Speaker
And so I think if you want games flying off the shelf, I don't know.
00:09:07
Speaker
I looked at Barry's list and granted he, he did, he was a part of some really great games.
00:09:15
Speaker
Like we heard it from Larry DeMar.
00:09:18
Speaker
We've heard it from Steve Ritchie.
00:09:19
Speaker
and others that were there during the 80s, Barry O's space shuttle helped revive the pinball industry back in 1984.
00:09:29
Speaker
And so there is that.
00:09:32
Speaker
When I think of that game, it's not one of my favorites, though.
00:09:35
Speaker
I mean, he was part of Gorgar, which was the first talking pinball machine.
00:09:39
Speaker
Gorgar speaks.
00:09:41
Speaker
But the other interesting part, too, is they claim, we had Steve Ritchie say this on our last interview we did with him,
00:09:48
Speaker
at least he claimed, that Popeye is what essentially killed Bailey Williams back in the 90s.
00:09:54
Speaker
And that was a very good design.
00:09:55
Speaker
It was a bad one, yeah.
00:09:58
Speaker
But was it the design or was it the theme?
00:09:59
Speaker
He has some hit and misses.
00:10:01
Speaker
Okay.
00:10:01
Speaker
I wouldn't say that he is a terrible designer, but I also wouldn't say that he comes to your mind if you're saying, I need a collection of eight games.
00:10:13
Speaker
I need one from Borg.
00:10:14
Speaker
I need three from Elwynn.
00:10:16
Speaker
I need, you know, all that kind of stuff.
00:10:18
Speaker
Very few people, unless they're like, no, I really want that game.
00:10:23
Speaker
it's uh he hasn't had as many hits but he was also out of the pinball industry for a while to be fair yeah he made queen pinball but before that the last game he made was junkyard back in 95 right and so i don't know of anybody who says i that junkyard's in my top 10 no i think that if anyone's gonna say top 10 it would be um dracula
00:10:47
Speaker
Brom Stoker's Dracula.
00:10:48
Speaker
Yes.
00:10:48
Speaker
And that's because it's a really great tournament game.
00:10:51
Speaker
It's very brutal.
00:10:52
Speaker
It's very much press, press start one more time kind of game.
00:10:56
Speaker
What else does it have?
00:10:58
Speaker
It's a great, it's a great theme.
00:11:01
Speaker
Theme.
00:11:01
Speaker
It is.
00:11:02
Speaker
It's a great theme.
00:11:03
Speaker
Yeah.
00:11:04
Speaker
Even though the movie was terrible, but Dracula is a great thing.
00:11:08
Speaker
The movie, seriously, halfway through the movie, I turned to my brother and I said, I don't even know what's going on.
00:11:15
Speaker
It was really that weird.

Speculations on Future Music-Themed Pinball Games

00:11:16
Speaker
But looking at Barrio's Barbecue Challenge, it does look much like a throwback to the 1980s.
00:11:21
Speaker
It is.
00:11:22
Speaker
When I first saw it, I thought Diner.
00:11:24
Speaker
And you pull a Diner, and there's some similarities there.
00:11:27
Speaker
Sure.
00:11:28
Speaker
So I feel like this is a good throwback to that era.
00:11:31
Speaker
I don't know.
00:11:36
Speaker
It's not on my short list, though, of games that I want to own.
00:11:39
Speaker
I'm not going to lie here.
00:11:41
Speaker
However, actually, this could be a good location game.
00:11:47
Speaker
Because if you have like a barbecue area or you have like a, you know, some sort of restaurant with an arcade attached or a pinball area, I would definitely put some money into it.
00:12:01
Speaker
You know, there are tiers that I consider successful tiers.
00:12:05
Speaker
So is this a, would I, if I saw it and I had five bucks in my pocket, would I put the $5 in for the three games?
00:12:14
Speaker
Okay.
00:12:15
Speaker
That's my, like my lowest level, right?
00:12:17
Speaker
Yeah.
00:12:17
Speaker
Would I do that for, there are some games where I'd walk up and I'm like, yeah, I'm not doing that.
00:12:22
Speaker
This is definitely in that, Hey, I'm going to do that.
00:12:26
Speaker
And if it were, if with those three games,
00:12:30
Speaker
if I felt like, Hey, this is a fun game.
00:12:34
Speaker
This has fun call outs.
00:12:35
Speaker
This is a, you know, one thing that was great about medieval madness and attack from Mars and even cactus Canyon, the call outs were hilarious.
00:12:45
Speaker
Yeah.
00:12:46
Speaker
And so by your experiencing that, you're like, you know what?
00:12:48
Speaker
That gave me a giggle.
00:12:50
Speaker
I'm willing to put some more money into it.
00:12:52
Speaker
And as long as I'm getting my money's worth, I will continue.
00:12:56
Speaker
So my first step is, will I put the $5 in for the three games?
00:13:01
Speaker
Then will I go back?
00:13:04
Speaker
If I had 20 bucks in my pocket that night, would I put $20 into that?
00:13:09
Speaker
And then you get to, would I come back to play that game?
00:13:14
Speaker
And eventually you're going to get to the point where you say, will I buy it and put it in my house?
00:13:21
Speaker
And then you say, is this a long-term keeper, a short-term keeper?
00:13:24
Speaker
And then you say, will I want the premium LE version?
00:13:28
Speaker
So there are a whole bunch of steps to what I consider a successful pinball machine.
00:13:33
Speaker
Where would my gut feeling be on this game?
00:13:36
Speaker
Probably be in the first two.
00:13:38
Speaker
It would be in the, am I willing to spend $5 on it?
00:13:41
Speaker
Am I willing to, if it's a fun experience, am I willing to spend the $20 on it?
00:13:45
Speaker
And if I go back to that restaurant again, will I go and visit it?
00:13:49
Speaker
So that's probably where it lands for me.
00:13:51
Speaker
Well, and I guess as you were talking about that, I was wondering if there's anything that you could do to make it more successful.
00:13:57
Speaker
Like it is a barbecue theme.
00:13:58
Speaker
If you had barbecue brands tied in, would that help?
00:14:02
Speaker
I just, I don't know how much people are clamoring for a barbecue game.
00:14:06
Speaker
And like you said, yeah, location wise it might, but.
00:14:10
Speaker
The theme is a throwaway theme.
00:14:12
Speaker
It is a, you know, it'd be the equivalent of hot rod.
00:14:17
Speaker
Right.
00:14:17
Speaker
Yeah.
00:14:18
Speaker
Yep.
00:14:21
Speaker
So I don't know.
00:14:22
Speaker
Overall, price wise, I mean, seven grand is not bad for.
00:14:27
Speaker
It's not bad.
00:14:27
Speaker
Not bad for entry game.
00:14:30
Speaker
And even the limited edition limited at 100 at 8500 isn't terrible.
00:14:35
Speaker
I am slightly concerned, though.
00:14:36
Speaker
I've heard that people that have looked under the hood said they have went a little cheaper on the what they're putting into the games now.
00:14:43
Speaker
I don't know how much truth there is to that.
00:14:45
Speaker
I don't know how you test that.
00:14:46
Speaker
outside of like just looking at what's in the game, you know, the last ability.
00:14:51
Speaker
Yeah.
00:14:51
Speaker
Yeah.
00:14:52
Speaker
So it'll be interesting to see how this is received by the community later on and see how it stands the test of time.
00:14:58
Speaker
So let's move.
00:15:00
Speaker
Oh, go ahead.
00:15:00
Speaker
I would say though, ultimately it depends on the play.
00:15:04
Speaker
Like, if this is a fun game, then it will, then you still will have a successful game.

Stern's Rumored Releases and John Wick's Potential as a Theme

00:15:11
Speaker
Yeah.
00:15:11
Speaker
But it always depends.
00:15:13
Speaker
Like, the theme helps or hurts that, but eventually it's the play that keeps the last ability.
00:15:19
Speaker
Yeah, definitely.
00:15:21
Speaker
All right.
00:15:22
Speaker
Let's, the next announcement.
00:15:23
Speaker
There's another game coming out.
00:15:25
Speaker
April 6th by Pinball Brothers.
00:15:28
Speaker
Okay.
00:15:29
Speaker
And apparently it has a helicopter in it.
00:15:31
Speaker
Dook, dook, dook.
00:15:33
Speaker
Everyone's speculating ABBA.
00:15:35
Speaker
What are your thoughts, Scott?
00:15:37
Speaker
It would make sense.
00:15:39
Speaker
And they certainly haven't done anything to shoot down those rumors.
00:15:43
Speaker
Yeah.
00:15:45
Speaker
They have Queen, which is a big theme for some.
00:15:49
Speaker
ABBA is actually, there are a lot of kids.
00:15:54
Speaker
And when I say kids, I'm talking teenagers who are getting into the 70s and 80s music.
00:16:01
Speaker
which is, and it makes sense because this is music.
00:16:06
Speaker
You can, you can typically listen with your parents in the car because it doesn't have a lot of swear words.
00:16:12
Speaker
So they, no, I'm, I'm, I'm actually very serious that that's like when we were, when we were at the tennis tournament, every song they were playing,
00:16:22
Speaker
was pretty much a, it, it was from that era because it didn't have last words except for occasionally they put in like a, Oh, 50, 50 cent, which was like, if they could hear the lyrics on these things, they are not clean, but, um, ABBA has, has become a big deal, especially for kids.
00:16:42
Speaker
Yeah.
00:16:42
Speaker
So would ABBA make sense?
00:16:45
Speaker
Absolutely.
00:16:45
Speaker
I think ABBA is a great option to say they made it an Elton John pinball machine.
00:16:51
Speaker
Yeah.
00:16:52
Speaker
And that theme is definitely resonating.
00:16:55
Speaker
They made two movies, you know, Mamma Mia and Mamma Mia, Care I Go, or whatever that show was twice.
00:17:03
Speaker
So this is a great option to look past the dad rock stuff.
00:17:10
Speaker
I agree.
00:17:11
Speaker
And it's going to be an interesting litmus test, in my opinion.
00:17:15
Speaker
And with it being Pinball Brothers, it is a European company.
00:17:17
Speaker
And so that does hit another demographic over there as well.
00:17:20
Speaker
And obviously ABBA is from over there in Europe.
00:17:23
Speaker
So it's going to be interesting to see how this goes.
00:17:27
Speaker
I think it's a good move.
00:17:32
Speaker
I think it's something everyone's going to be... Especially if you haven't watched the video yet, go to NAP Arcade.
00:17:39
Speaker
They have a video of the helicopter lock mech, and it's pretty cool.
00:17:44
Speaker
But if it is ABBA, I'd like to see it.
00:17:47
Speaker
I'm not much of an ABBA fan, so...
00:17:50
Speaker
I'm not on the list, but gameplay can always change my mind.
00:17:54
Speaker
And it does look like the helicopter on one of their albums.
00:17:59
Speaker
Like their fourth album, did I hear that?
00:18:02
Speaker
Yes, Arrival, their fourth album.
00:18:04
Speaker
So if you want to check this out, like I said, Saturday, April 6th at 6pm, they are going to be showing it at the Clarion Hotel in Sweden.
00:18:15
Speaker
I bet they'll have some kind of... I know they're going to do
00:18:18
Speaker
They've got tagged on their Facebook.
00:18:19
Speaker
So maybe they'll do a live through the Facebook.
00:18:23
Speaker
We're not entirely for sure, but I guarantee video is probably going to show up of it somehow, some way, regardless.
00:18:28
Speaker
So speaking of other rumor games, Stern's coming up and due for another one.
00:18:35
Speaker
John Borg's in the pipeline.
00:18:37
Speaker
We know that for sure.
00:18:39
Speaker
But the rumored game is John Wick.
00:18:41
Speaker
Would you like to see a Stern John Wick pinball machine?
00:18:43
Speaker
Yeah.
00:18:46
Speaker
I know that John Wick is a huge franchise.
00:18:51
Speaker
Yes.
00:18:52
Speaker
I have not seen one of them.
00:18:54
Speaker
Or if I... So, okay, this is the challenge when you go outside of... And I know I just bagged on the dad rock, but everybody knows at least one song from...
00:19:11
Speaker
from Elton John, from Foo Fighters, Rush, Tom Sawyer, even if you're not a Rush fan, Metallica, you at least know you have some connection to this.
00:19:22
Speaker
And I know that John Wick went ballistic because they killed his dog or something.
00:19:27
Speaker
Yeah, that's all I know as well.
00:19:29
Speaker
Yeah.
00:19:31
Speaker
Now, however, I know it's a big deal.
00:19:34
Speaker
So if they did get the John, John wick license, then I think it, it definitely helps out.
00:19:42
Speaker
Yeah.
00:19:43
Speaker
Um, how many John wick movies are there for, they just came out with chapter four within the last year or two.
00:19:49
Speaker
Okay.
00:19:50
Speaker
And they just came out with it, right?
00:19:51
Speaker
Yeah.
00:19:52
Speaker
Yep.
00:19:52
Speaker
So at least it's a hit.
00:19:53
Speaker
Cause we know they're not going to do, um,
00:19:57
Speaker
we know they're not going to do a unproven title anymore because that's where they got into what was that terrible game that...
00:20:09
Speaker
that George Gomez tried to get out of.
00:20:12
Speaker
You remember?
00:20:13
Speaker
Johnny Mnemonic.
00:20:14
Speaker
Yeah.
00:20:14
Speaker
Johnny Mnemonic.
00:20:15
Speaker
Yeah.
00:20:16
Speaker
Yeah.
00:20:17
Speaker
So, so they're, they're trying to avoid that kind of, I mean, even Iron Man is really Iron Man two.
00:20:24
Speaker
Yeah.
00:20:24
Speaker
Because they waited until that became a big thing.
00:20:28
Speaker
Yep.
00:20:31
Speaker
So it certainly makes sense to capitalize on the popularity of that.
00:20:36
Speaker
And there

Ninja Eclipse Review and Homebrew Game Innovations

00:20:38
Speaker
are tons of people who are huge fans.
00:20:40
Speaker
I believe Aaron Rodgers even like grew his hair out to dress up like John Wick for one Halloween.
00:20:46
Speaker
That's awesome.
00:20:47
Speaker
So, you know, at least Aaron Rodgers is buying an Ellie.
00:20:49
Speaker
Yeah.
00:20:50
Speaker
I heard that Keanu Reeves has โ€“ he kills more people in those movies than the actual words he says in those movies.
00:20:56
Speaker
That's kind of funny, actually.
00:20:57
Speaker
I don't know if that's true.
00:20:59
Speaker
Sure, why not?
00:21:00
Speaker
You know, I think Borg and John Wick is a very brilliant match.
00:21:03
Speaker
I think โ€“
00:21:04
Speaker
He's brutal at his games.
00:21:06
Speaker
And so it's going to be, if you want a brutal game with a brutal theme, you got it.
00:21:11
Speaker
Here it is.
00:21:12
Speaker
So I think people will be excited, but that's all we know.
00:21:17
Speaker
Would you April time?
00:21:19
Speaker
Would you try to go and if you had your wishlist though, would you try to go with spanning all of them or would you just dial in on the first movie?
00:21:33
Speaker
I don't know.
00:21:33
Speaker
I've heard the way it's set up.
00:21:36
Speaker
It's very like Lord of the Rings-esque where like one through... They're complete sets.
00:21:41
Speaker
And the only reason it got split up is because... Well, first off, because Tolkien was told to split it into three books because it was too long to be one book.
00:21:48
Speaker
Because it was like 3,000 pages.
00:21:50
Speaker
It's like one through three is kind of... It's kind of like its own complete novel.
00:21:54
Speaker
I don't know.
00:21:55
Speaker
Okay.
00:21:56
Speaker
And for who into what was, we want to make more money.
00:21:59
Speaker
Maybe.
00:21:59
Speaker
I don't know.
00:21:59
Speaker
I just know that John Wick...
00:22:02
Speaker
All I know is he kills people.
00:22:03
Speaker
And so I don't know if this is like a transporter situation with Jason Statham and they all kind of link together kind of thing.
00:22:10
Speaker
I don't know if it's more of the action.
00:22:13
Speaker
You're asking the wrong person.
00:22:15
Speaker
Okay.
00:22:15
Speaker
But you're going to, you're going to agree with me that this would be considered an A-list property.
00:22:22
Speaker
Oh yeah.
00:22:22
Speaker
This, this is something that is a desirable match.
00:22:26
Speaker
Yep.
00:22:26
Speaker
Yep.
00:22:27
Speaker
I think so.
00:22:28
Speaker
So,
00:22:30
Speaker
And when was the last mature thing that it would... Would Elvira be considered mature?
00:22:36
Speaker
Elvira, you could probably say that.
00:22:38
Speaker
Elvira is dancing into that PG-13 humor.
00:22:44
Speaker
Walking Dead is definitely that mature type.
00:22:49
Speaker
And Borg... That's a Borg.
00:22:51
Speaker
Yeah, Borg tends to do it.
00:22:53
Speaker
Metallica, I would argue, is typically not a... You know, that's...
00:22:58
Speaker
It's probably in the PG-13 category.
00:23:01
Speaker
Yeah.
00:23:03
Speaker
So it makes sense with John Borg.
00:23:05
Speaker
Rush is more of a passion project, I guess, for Borg.
00:23:11
Speaker
So the next game we're going to talk about, because I feel like we've talked about, as much as we can get out of that one, we've got it.
00:23:17
Speaker
So moving on, Ninja Eclipse.
00:23:20
Speaker
This is a game that I played at NBall Expo this last fall.
00:23:23
Speaker
Okay.
00:23:25
Speaker
Well, remind me your first impressions of Ninja Eclipse.
00:23:28
Speaker
Okay.
00:23:29
Speaker
my first impressions and we talked about this.
00:23:31
Speaker
We had Don from Don's pinball podcast come on and we talked about, and I said, it looked like a zizzle and it felt very light.
00:23:39
Speaker
Because it kind of did actually.
00:23:40
Speaker
It did.
00:23:41
Speaker
The cabinet was like half the size of a standard cabinet, not like lengthwise, like play field wise, but like they just shortened it down.
00:23:48
Speaker
It was like a, it was like a diet cabinet.
00:23:50
Speaker
It was a cabinet light cabinet.
00:23:52
Speaker
Yeah.
00:23:53
Speaker
The game itself was all right.
00:23:55
Speaker
Like I enjoyed playing it, but outside of the fact that the flippers were really weak,
00:23:59
Speaker
Um, but it wasn't terrible.
00:24:02
Speaker
I think the, the thing that got me after I played it and what they announced was, is they were going to try to sell it for 10 grand.
00:24:08
Speaker
And I was just like, no way there is.
00:24:10
Speaker
We just confirmed that we actually did pull up the nap arcade, uh, discussion of that.
00:24:16
Speaker
And the, and I, I'm going to read exactly what Jason said in his article.
00:24:22
Speaker
Um, for,
00:24:24
Speaker
said that it's going to be, let's see, Ninja Eclipse is priced at $9,777.
00:24:31
Speaker
Production is limited to 100 first edition units.
00:24:37
Speaker
Now, we both balked at that.
00:24:39
Speaker
We balked at the price, and we balked at the image, right?
00:24:44
Speaker
Yes.
00:24:45
Speaker
If you can find this, maybe I should see if I can link the article.
00:24:49
Speaker
I don't know.
00:24:50
Speaker
You know what?
00:24:51
Speaker
I would say that's in the past.
00:24:52
Speaker
Go look it up.
00:24:54
Speaker
The only reason I'm saying look it up, look at how much this has changed.
00:24:59
Speaker
Yes.
00:24:59
Speaker
For the article that just released four days ago.
00:25:01
Speaker
Yeah.
00:25:02
Speaker
This has gone through like a makeover.
00:25:04
Speaker
What is it?
00:25:05
Speaker
Like this is a pinball makeover show where they take something that's not working and they revealed it and.
00:25:13
Speaker
It looks so much better.
00:25:15
Speaker
It looks a lot better.
00:25:16
Speaker
It looks a lot better.
00:25:17
Speaker
It looks legit.
00:25:18
Speaker
Now I'd actually consider maybe buying one of these games looking at this.
00:25:21
Speaker
And they went from $9.777 to $69.94.
00:25:26
Speaker
And that's on the limited editions.
00:25:28
Speaker
They dropped almost $3,000 off for the 100 runs limited editions.
00:25:33
Speaker
So I'm impressed because it looks like they've added more to the game.
00:25:39
Speaker
and drop the price a lot less.
00:25:41
Speaker
I don't know what they were trying to accomplish beforehand, but it looks like they took all the feedback from Expo and said, this is what we're doing.
00:25:49
Speaker
The powder coat on this looks great.
00:25:50
Speaker
The purple powder coat, the original one only had black.
00:25:53
Speaker
I just, if, if you're interested, like I said, it is past, it is past, but,
00:26:00
Speaker
But the new one, it's good to see that someone took constructive criticism and changed.
00:26:06
Speaker
It looks better.
00:26:07
Speaker
Do you know what it gives me vibes of?
00:26:10
Speaker
It's vibes of Mulan and Dragon's Lair.
00:26:17
Speaker
Yeah.
00:26:18
Speaker
Like that's the, that's the, the color scheme it's, it's going for the art style.
00:26:25
Speaker
And it actually has a coin door now, which it didn't have a, that was one of our biggest things to say, look on location.
00:26:32
Speaker
You are not going to have someone download an app just to play your game.
00:26:37
Speaker
It's not going to happen.
00:26:39
Speaker
Nope.
00:26:41
Speaker
It looks like it will fit next to other games and not look at a place.
00:26:45
Speaker
Yep.
00:26:46
Speaker
The play field looks... You know what?
00:26:52
Speaker
It looks better.
00:26:53
Speaker
And it could just be that it looks better because it is presented in a better environment.
00:27:01
Speaker
Right?
00:27:02
Speaker
Maybe, yeah.
00:27:04
Speaker
But it does look better.
00:27:06
Speaker
So is this something that I would consider taking a flyer on at just under $7,000?
00:27:14
Speaker
Maybe actually like, okay.
00:27:16
Speaker
I would not have taken a flyer on it at the other price and the other presentation.
00:27:22
Speaker
I agree.
00:27:23
Speaker
But I would consider it on this.
00:27:26
Speaker
Yeah.
00:27:26
Speaker
It was, it was, I'd hate to say this, but it was laughable at 10 K. Yeah.
00:27:31
Speaker
So, but this looks like it, and it looks like something that kids would really like, like the, the visual presentation of it.
00:27:39
Speaker
It looks like something that kids would like.
00:27:41
Speaker
Yep.
00:27:43
Speaker
So good luck to them.
00:27:46
Speaker
The only other thing that changed to back in October, they were only asking for 150 to deposit.
00:27:50
Speaker
Now they're asking for a full thousand, but they're claiming that's fully refundable.
00:27:54
Speaker
Okay.
00:27:55
Speaker
That, that is entirely up to you guys how you want to take that, but yeah.
00:28:00
Speaker
Yeah.
00:28:00
Speaker
New and even has like a link, new cabinet, new price.
00:28:03
Speaker
So, Hey, the whole secret to a successful company is taking feedback from,
00:28:12
Speaker
and implementing that feedback.
00:28:15
Speaker
Yep.
00:28:15
Speaker
Now you can't always implement everything.
00:28:18
Speaker
And as we have talked with Elwin before, when he said, look, before I got in the industry, I had exactly the same questions all y'all do and exactly the same concerns.
00:28:31
Speaker
And he said, when you get into the industry, you say, oh,
00:28:35
Speaker
They actually have the same questions and their reasons why they don't do what we're suggesting.
00:28:42
Speaker
Like have the shark eat the ball, you know, stuff like that.
00:28:46
Speaker
Right.
00:28:47
Speaker
So good for him.
00:28:48
Speaker
Good for him for pivoting and trying to make it work.
00:28:53
Speaker
Oh, the other thing on Ninja Eclipse, they didn't have a plunger before.
00:28:56
Speaker
It was an auto plunger and they've actually added in a physical plunger now too.
00:29:00
Speaker
Which makes it look like a real game, right?
00:29:04
Speaker
I'm a real game.
00:29:06
Speaker
Well, okay, but... Okay, that's funny.
00:29:09
Speaker
But most games, aside from the other games, like, when's the last game that had a button plunger?
00:29:19
Speaker
Probably Pinball 2000.
00:29:20
Speaker
No, no.
00:29:22
Speaker
I mean, all the P3s do because they can't actually put a physical puncher.
00:29:26
Speaker
Yeah, okay.
00:29:27
Speaker
I'm talking your standard and I'm not going to say the fake pinball because P3 we know is a real pinball company and a pinball machine.
00:29:35
Speaker
But let's say that people want,

Foo Fighters Accessories and The Economics of Pinball Pricing

00:29:39
Speaker
because part of your code is going to be about varying your plunge.
00:29:46
Speaker
So, you know, we have...
00:29:48
Speaker
Medieval Madness.
00:29:48
Speaker
We have Attack from Mars.
00:29:49
Speaker
We even have, you know, even Cacus Canyon had a pole plunge, though.
00:29:53
Speaker
Yeah.
00:29:55
Speaker
So that it makes sense to say, no, we want this to look like other games.
00:30:02
Speaker
I agree.
00:30:03
Speaker
So.
00:30:04
Speaker
Alrighty, moving on.
00:30:06
Speaker
We have.
00:30:09
Speaker
Do we want to talk?
00:30:11
Speaker
Speaking of P3, do we want to talk Princess Bride at all?
00:30:14
Speaker
We did talk a lot last episode about Princess Bride.
00:30:17
Speaker
And did kind of full coverage there.
00:30:19
Speaker
We're hearing people are loving it down at Texas Pinball Festival.
00:30:25
Speaker
The only complaint, which is this is the same complaint as always, like it's become an echo chamber and like kind of a mute point at this point that the buttons aren't tied together.
00:30:33
Speaker
That's the only thing I've heard that are like.
00:30:35
Speaker
Why can't they be on the same button?
00:30:37
Speaker
Yeah, and that's more of a P3 analysis or feedback than a Princess Bride feedback, right?
00:30:45
Speaker
Yeah, exactly.
00:30:46
Speaker
But when you and I played, like Weird Al is their last big reveal, right?
00:30:51
Speaker
Yeah.
00:30:52
Speaker
I guess they had, I'm sorry, they actually had Scott Deneese's game.
00:30:55
Speaker
Yeah, they had Final Resistance too.
00:30:59
Speaker
But it was a fun game to play.
00:31:02
Speaker
Yeah.
00:31:03
Speaker
So if you're going to buy, if you're going to jump into the P3 market, I mean, you have Final Resistance, you have Princess Bride, you have Weird Al.
00:31:13
Speaker
When you add those all together, you can probably get all of, like, in even a few more modules, you can probably get, you know, like four games for under $20,000.
00:31:22
Speaker
Yeah, definitely.
00:31:25
Speaker
I'm just adding them up in my head.
00:31:27
Speaker
That's basically for Pro Stern.
00:31:31
Speaker
Yeah, definitely.
00:31:32
Speaker
The knock is you can't play them at once.
00:31:34
Speaker
You have to swap them out.
00:31:37
Speaker
True.
00:31:38
Speaker
But if you still are limited on space, but you want to try it, hey, Princess Bride, we have said if you're looking for an A theme, that's an A theme.
00:31:48
Speaker
Yeah.
00:31:51
Speaker
I think we did talk plenty about that last episode.
00:31:53
Speaker
Let's move on.
00:31:54
Speaker
We're seeing some great homebrews.
00:31:56
Speaker
So two were just announced.
00:31:58
Speaker
These games look amazing.
00:32:00
Speaker
Like,
00:32:01
Speaker
uh let's let's talk motorhead first brad albright he's been on the show he did our work for our shoes he did all the art for motorhead he originally did it for led zeppelin that's actually how we got to know him is he did the led zeppelin homebrew as well yep killed on this motorhead it looks amazing and david peck is the one that made this he was also the led zeppelin amazing i just holy crap and uh i i guess
00:32:28
Speaker
Steve Ritchie approves, man.
00:32:30
Speaker
I guess they got a pitcher and he said that that is amazing.
00:32:32
Speaker
That is the best homebrew he's ever played.
00:32:35
Speaker
So actually, this is David Peck did this from scratch.
00:32:39
Speaker
You can look if you're if you're really intrigued, you can go on pin side.
00:32:43
Speaker
It's called announcing motorhead pinball and it shows it from a whitewood.
00:32:47
Speaker
It's actually not a remake of any pinball machine.
00:32:50
Speaker
This is from the ground up.
00:32:52
Speaker
And it's very much a throwback to that, like Gottlieb, Stern.
00:32:56
Speaker
Centaur.
00:32:58
Speaker
It has the total centaur vibe.
00:33:00
Speaker
It's the red, white, and silver.
00:33:02
Speaker
Oh, yeah.
00:33:03
Speaker
Black, white, silver, red.
00:33:06
Speaker
Yep.
00:33:07
Speaker
And this game looks...
00:33:09
Speaker
Pretty amazing.
00:33:10
Speaker
It looks pretty good.
00:33:11
Speaker
It looks pretty awesome.
00:33:11
Speaker
And even has like, I love the, I love the flippers on the right, the double flippers on the right that have that, that, that suicide gap, where if you try to trap up on the lower flipper at a, you drain.
00:33:24
Speaker
Yep.
00:33:25
Speaker
I mean, this game, honestly, I would not be shocked if pinball manufacturers were approaching David Peck this weekend and ask him, hey, can we buy this from you?
00:33:36
Speaker
Yeah.
00:33:36
Speaker
Yeah.
00:33:37
Speaker
Yeah.
00:33:37
Speaker
Because it looks good.
00:33:39
Speaker
It looks pretty good.
00:33:40
Speaker
I want to know.
00:33:42
Speaker
I want people to comment.
00:33:43
Speaker
If you were at TPF, comment on our Facebook, comment on this episode.
00:33:48
Speaker
We want to know how this played because it looks great.
00:33:51
Speaker
It looks really good.
00:33:52
Speaker
So yeah, it looks awesome.
00:33:54
Speaker
And wow, it's visually it looks I, I, Hey, Brad.
00:34:00
Speaker
Awesome.
00:34:03
Speaker
You're really good at your job.
00:34:04
Speaker
It's crazy.
00:34:05
Speaker
Yep.
00:34:07
Speaker
Uh, another homebrew that came out this weekend that has been under wraps.
00:34:12
Speaker
We've known about it for a little bit.
00:34:13
Speaker
Uh,
00:34:15
Speaker
Saw Pinball.
00:34:16
Speaker
I'm so glad this is finally being revealed.
00:34:18
Speaker
Okay.
00:34:18
Speaker
I'm not a horror fan.
00:34:20
Speaker
I just, yeah, it's not, not my thing.
00:34:22
Speaker
However, there are tons of people who are.
00:34:26
Speaker
But this game, holy crap.
00:34:28
Speaker
So this one is actually a repurposed play field.
00:34:30
Speaker
This is an old whirlwind play field.
00:34:32
Speaker
If you look really close, you can, you can tell it's what's funny though.
00:34:36
Speaker
It was like,
00:34:38
Speaker
I mean, yeah, if you really look, you can tell, but this looks nothing like World Wind.
00:34:43
Speaker
No.
00:34:43
Speaker
And the spinning saw blades in the game, the hacksaw plunger, the reverse bear trap or whatever the heck that topper is.
00:34:57
Speaker
I mean, this game...
00:34:59
Speaker
this game is amazing.
00:35:00
Speaker
Holy crap.
00:35:01
Speaker
Like, right.
00:35:02
Speaker
It astounds me at home.
00:35:03
Speaker
It's amazing what homebrew can do, right?
00:35:07
Speaker
Like it.
00:35:08
Speaker
It's amazing to me mainly that you see, I totally understand why licensors are jealous of their property and they want to present it in a certain way.
00:35:21
Speaker
And the example that I can think of is, um,
00:35:26
Speaker
When Star Wars, when kids stopped buying the action figure doll things and they tried to repurpose them into something else.
00:35:35
Speaker
And they they made it's kind of laughable because you remember the the Star Wars figures that were kind of like stick figures, almost like from the 70s.
00:35:44
Speaker
Right.
00:35:44
Speaker
Yep.
00:35:45
Speaker
And they had ones that looked like He-Man.
00:35:49
Speaker
And so, so it was like, so the joke was Han Solo flex because he looked like a big He-Man guy, which is totally not how Star Wars goes.
00:35:58
Speaker
So I understand why licensors are like, no, we like the way we present things.
00:36:05
Speaker
We like the, it's a, it's a tried and true way of doing it.
00:36:09
Speaker
However, when you give someone the opportunity to run with it,
00:36:14
Speaker
you can have some amazing results that, that would surprise the original licensor to say, yeah, we should have done that in the first place.
00:36:25
Speaker
100%.
00:36:25
Speaker
And this is, this is a great example.
00:36:28
Speaker
This had a team come together as well.
00:36:31
Speaker
Um,
00:36:42
Speaker
This had a great team that came together as well.
00:36:44
Speaker
If you want to check out the nap arcade right up on this one, we want to shout out to Glenn Wechter who did the sound and everything on that.
00:36:51
Speaker
Amazing job.
00:36:53
Speaker
Glenn's always a good friend.
00:36:54
Speaker
Yeah.
00:36:55
Speaker
There is plenty of people down there looking at these things.
00:36:58
Speaker
I would not be shocked if they got approached afterwards either saying, Hey, you guys want to sell this game to us?
00:37:04
Speaker
Cause Holy crap.
00:37:05
Speaker
This is amazing.
00:37:07
Speaker
Obviously, it's going to have to be tweaked a little bit if it's a world.
00:37:09
Speaker
Right.
00:37:10
Speaker
It's a Pat Lawler design.
00:37:11
Speaker
Right.
00:37:11
Speaker
Yeah.
00:37:12
Speaker
But you could do.
00:37:15
Speaker
Yeah.
00:37:16
Speaker
No, it looks so good.
00:37:17
Speaker
It looks so good.
00:37:19
Speaker
And the the theme looks like the lighting of it.
00:37:24
Speaker
It looks so good.
00:37:25
Speaker
You know how sometimes, you know, this is, I don't want to get in trouble here, but there are some things where you see the lighting that is presented and it doesn't seem consistent with the theme.
00:37:41
Speaker
Yeah.
00:37:41
Speaker
Right.
00:37:43
Speaker
And so if something feels a little bit more like a like a carnival game or a or a slot machine or something that doesn't really match what what the theme that you're trying to do.
00:37:56
Speaker
This is bright.

Tilt Bob Pinball's Road Trip and Bally Williams Revival Rumors

00:37:58
Speaker
It's popping and it is definitely LED heavy, but it looks so good with the saw theme.
00:38:08
Speaker
Yep.
00:38:09
Speaker
So that's the right way of doing it.
00:38:11
Speaker
So I've got to ask you a question.
00:38:13
Speaker
This is starting to... I've heard this floating around.
00:38:16
Speaker
Okay.
00:38:19
Speaker
We've got Saw.
00:38:19
Speaker
We've got Motorhead.
00:38:21
Speaker
The thing about Motorhead, it's from the ground up, right?
00:38:24
Speaker
Sure.
00:38:24
Speaker
But the coder is Matt Kemp, who works for Spooky Pinball.
00:38:29
Speaker
Okay.
00:38:30
Speaker
So...
00:38:32
Speaker
When do we start crossing the line?
00:38:34
Speaker
If we're getting professional coders on these games, when do we start crossing the line of it's no longer homebrew?
00:38:41
Speaker
Because honestly, these two games look like production quality games.
00:38:46
Speaker
They do.
00:38:46
Speaker
Do you know what it looks like?
00:38:48
Speaker
Okay, just looking at this, you know, like Frankenstein.
00:38:52
Speaker
Yeah.
00:38:52
Speaker
You know, John Black's Frankenstein from.
00:38:54
Speaker
Yeah.
00:38:55
Speaker
Yeah.
00:38:57
Speaker
It's a theme that may not be well known, but you're like, you're like, yeah, this seems like it could have been a production game.
00:39:03
Speaker
Yeah.
00:39:03
Speaker
Like if you put these three together, if you put Motorhead, Saw and Frankenstein and said, pick which one was the production game.
00:39:13
Speaker
You would not choose Frankenstein.
00:39:15
Speaker
No, well, but you're also putting it up against a 90s game.
00:39:19
Speaker
Okay.
00:39:20
Speaker
I totally get it.
00:39:20
Speaker
I get it.
00:39:21
Speaker
But you're going to be surprised by the quality of this.
00:39:25
Speaker
Maybe this isn't fair, and maybe we shouldn't do this.
00:39:27
Speaker
But if you were to put Motorhead, Saw, and Berryho's Barbecue Challenge in a row together, which one would you say is the absolute homeroo out of those three?
00:39:36
Speaker
Well...
00:39:37
Speaker
Yeah, it's... And we can just leave it at that.
00:39:40
Speaker
You can plead the fifth on this one.
00:39:43
Speaker
Yeah, you're certainly blurring the lines.
00:39:45
Speaker
Yes.
00:39:47
Speaker
And I would point out that that's not really a knock on Barrio's barbecue.
00:39:53
Speaker
No.
00:39:53
Speaker
What it is is it's a compliment to Saw and Motorhead.
00:39:59
Speaker
I agree.
00:39:59
Speaker
Because they look professional.
00:40:02
Speaker
And even when, and we love Sonic, like the homebrew version of it, it still felt like a homebrew.
00:40:10
Speaker
Like the playfield layout still felt like a homebrew.
00:40:13
Speaker
This feels like, and I know Saw is a real layout, like a real production layout, but it still feels very much like, wow, this is a great game.
00:40:25
Speaker
Yep.
00:40:25
Speaker
Well, and looking at, so like with, with, uh, motorhead, you've got David Peck who, who did everything mechanically and all that stuff.
00:40:33
Speaker
And then you had, you had Brad Albright obviously doing art.
00:40:36
Speaker
And then, like I said, Matt Kemp on code.
00:40:39
Speaker
With Saw, you have, it was spearheaded and programmed by Austin Kerrigan, Eric Colts, and Joe Farnsworth on engineering, and then Glenn Wechter on music and cos.
00:40:50
Speaker
This is a four-man team.
00:40:51
Speaker
The other one's a three-man team.
00:40:53
Speaker
And these are starting to turn into, these homebrews are almost turning into like a 1990s
00:40:58
Speaker
pinball team.
00:40:59
Speaker
You know what I'm saying?
00:41:00
Speaker
Right.
00:41:01
Speaker
And to be, to make a good machine, that's actually what you want.
00:41:05
Speaker
Yep.
00:41:06
Speaker
You want someone, Glenn's great with music and all that.
00:41:09
Speaker
So yes, you're going to want someone who specializes in that to, you know, to actually do the part that they're good at.
00:41:17
Speaker
That's, that's a whole, like, uh, that's economics.
00:41:21
Speaker
It's a specialization.
00:41:23
Speaker
Yep.
00:41:25
Speaker
So yeah.
00:41:26
Speaker
I've just got to say, I got to take my hat off to you guys.
00:41:28
Speaker
It's, this is amazing.
00:41:30
Speaker
Both teams, hands down.
00:41:33
Speaker
Amazing.
00:41:34
Speaker
Let's move on.
00:41:34
Speaker
We still have a couple more things to cover.
00:41:36
Speaker
Okay.
00:41:38
Speaker
Foo Fighters accessories.
00:41:39
Speaker
I do like that.
00:41:39
Speaker
They actually planned this out and said, Hey,
00:41:42
Speaker
this is what we're doing.
00:41:43
Speaker
We're going to do an official release date for these accessories.
00:41:46
Speaker
I think either a, you, you release it with the game like they have in the past with some games or you do this, you set a special date.
00:41:52
Speaker
So that way it's just got some random Tuesday.
00:41:55
Speaker
Hey, by the way, the topper is dropping today.
00:41:57
Speaker
Right.
00:41:57
Speaker
Uh,
00:41:58
Speaker
My opinion on these accessories, these are pretty awesome.
00:42:03
Speaker
People are complaining about the $2,000 price tag.
00:42:05
Speaker
It's kind of where Stern is resting at right now with their games.
00:42:10
Speaker
And honestly, it seems like anything with a moving head on it
00:42:14
Speaker
commands at 2k at least that's what they've learned does it look like it's moving just side to side though yeah it looks like it's just moving side to side it's not like black knight that goes up and down and around um but then again you look at turtles which was another 2k and it was just the eye on top of the technical drone turtles was 1k was it yeah turtles was one we'll agree to disagree on that one no i'm gonna look it up
00:42:42
Speaker
Okay, but my point being is this is a pretty good looking topper.
00:42:45
Speaker
It's pretty awesome.
00:42:48
Speaker
I don't know if there's more to this topper.
00:42:51
Speaker
I've heard rumors that there's $1,000.
00:42:54
Speaker
Turtles was $1,000.
00:42:54
Speaker
Never mind then.
00:42:57
Speaker
I apologize.
00:42:57
Speaker
So the first one that jumped up to this point was Mandalorian.
00:43:04
Speaker
Oh, okay.
00:43:05
Speaker
Mandalorian was $2,000.
00:43:06
Speaker
Okay.
00:43:09
Speaker
What about the Stranger Things one?
00:43:12
Speaker
Stranger Things was like a thousand bucks.
00:43:15
Speaker
Maybe.
00:43:16
Speaker
Okay.
00:43:17
Speaker
Yeah.
00:43:19
Speaker
So Mando's, I guess you're right, Mando.
00:43:21
Speaker
Yeah, I don't think this is a 2K topper than if you're going to put next to Mando.
00:43:26
Speaker
Yeah, I don't think it is.
00:43:27
Speaker
Stranger Things, well, I see it just Googling.
00:43:31
Speaker
I see it for about 700 bucks.
00:43:34
Speaker
I'm not going to fight you on that.
00:43:36
Speaker
Yeah.
00:43:36
Speaker
So it's that.
00:43:38
Speaker
Okay.
00:43:39
Speaker
We are getting to the point, though, when I look at a topper and I say, that's not worth it.
00:43:47
Speaker
And sadly, I bought the Rush topper for $1,800 or $1,600.
00:43:53
Speaker
I think it was like $1,700.
00:43:55
Speaker
Okay.
00:43:57
Speaker
Because I have the limited edition.
00:43:59
Speaker
There is a point.
00:44:01
Speaker
It makes sense.
00:44:01
Speaker
And it actually, it does look good.
00:44:04
Speaker
The challenge is, okay, I'm just going to pull up inside.com and I'm going to pull up Foo Fighters.
00:44:13
Speaker
Okay.
00:44:15
Speaker
So let's just pull up Foo Fight.
00:44:18
Speaker
Okay.
00:44:21
Speaker
Foo Fighters.
00:44:22
Speaker
And let's just see what a pro Foo Fighters is going for.
00:44:28
Speaker
Okay.
00:44:29
Speaker
Any idea?
00:44:29
Speaker
6,500.
00:44:31
Speaker
Okay.
00:44:31
Speaker
Yeah.
00:44:34
Speaker
There are some that are, yeah, you're looking between 6,000 and 6,300.
00:44:39
Speaker
Okay.
00:44:40
Speaker
So let me just look at what this is offering.
00:44:44
Speaker
Okay.
00:44:48
Speaker
So you have, sorry, I'm trying to get back to my, I have so many tabs opening.
00:44:55
Speaker
Okay.
00:44:55
Speaker
I'm going to close some of these.
00:44:57
Speaker
So, okay, so you have, where is it?
00:45:02
Speaker
You have to edit some of this out.
00:45:04
Speaker
Okay.
00:45:12
Speaker
We didn't talk about road trip yet, did we, or did we?
00:45:14
Speaker
No, not yet.
00:45:15
Speaker
Yeah, okay.
00:45:16
Speaker
So, okay, so you can get back on.
00:45:23
Speaker
Okay.
00:45:25
Speaker
Okay.
00:45:27
Speaker
So I'm pulling out and saying that we have the topper at one 90.
00:45:34
Speaker
I'm going to round these because it makes it easier.

Conclusion and Feedback Invitation

00:45:38
Speaker
$2,000 for a topper.
00:45:39
Speaker
Okay.
00:45:39
Speaker
Okay.
00:45:40
Speaker
Expression lighting kit, 500 bucks.
00:45:43
Speaker
Shooter rod, 225 side armor, 225 art blades, a hundred bucks.
00:45:46
Speaker
Okay.
00:45:46
Speaker
Okay.
00:45:56
Speaker
So what does that come up into the game?
00:46:03
Speaker
So the grand total there, you're like around $3,000, a little over $3,000.
00:46:07
Speaker
Yeah, $3,000.
00:46:08
Speaker
So you're looking at that and you're saying, okay, so this game is worth $6,200.
00:46:14
Speaker
Let's just say $6,100, $6,200.
00:46:15
Speaker
And I know this is the pro.
00:46:22
Speaker
But let's just say, okay, so let's, okay, the accessories are not worth half of the game.
00:46:30
Speaker
I agree.
00:46:31
Speaker
We can agree with that, right?
00:46:33
Speaker
Yeah.
00:46:34
Speaker
Okay, so we have the premium.
00:46:37
Speaker
Okay, I see a premium for sale at $7,200.
00:46:41
Speaker
Okay.
00:46:44
Speaker
I see a premium for sale for 7,000, 8,500, 8,000.
00:46:47
Speaker
Okay.
00:46:50
Speaker
So we're, we're dropping value quickly on the secondary market on these, on these.
00:46:57
Speaker
Right.
00:46:57
Speaker
And so, okay, here's my suggestion.
00:47:01
Speaker
If, if this is your game and you really want to do it, go ahead.
00:47:05
Speaker
And, and heaven knows I have bought tons of accessories.
00:47:09
Speaker
Basically every game that I have right now, except for iron maiden has a topper.
00:47:14
Speaker
Because when I bought Iron Maiden, they were not making the toppers.
00:47:19
Speaker
But if you're looking at this, this is where you may want to consider as a used buyer.
00:47:28
Speaker
If you're looking at that, that you could say, well, how, if I really want all that stuff, do I want to wait until I can find one that someone else has paid the premium on that?
00:47:40
Speaker
Yeah.
00:47:41
Speaker
And then you can say, hey, this has the topper.
00:47:43
Speaker
This has the... Because we saw that with Beatles, right?
00:47:48
Speaker
People said, hey, Beatles is going for this and it has a topper.
00:47:51
Speaker
Well, you couldn't buy the topper alone, but you could buy the machine with a topper.
00:47:56
Speaker
And you could definitely significantly drop that investment cost.
00:48:03
Speaker
And I...
00:48:05
Speaker
if you love the game, then I say, go ahead, you know, bling it out, do whatever you want.
00:48:12
Speaker
I am, I am concerned that we are getting too ridiculous category where it's no long, it no longer feels that, Hey, if you want this game and you want to spend a little more and get the nice version, this feels a little bit like a price gouge from Stern.
00:48:30
Speaker
Yeah.
00:48:31
Speaker
Well, I think here's the other problem too, is accessories,
00:48:36
Speaker
They're not like bread and butter, right?
00:48:38
Speaker
Like the pinball machine is the bread and butter for Stern.
00:48:41
Speaker
And I think what we're going to start seeing is not necessarily price gouging, but we're trying to make up pricing because Venom didn't do well at all.
00:48:50
Speaker
And Jaws is doing pretty good, but who knows where John Wick's going to land if it is John Wick with John Borg.
00:48:56
Speaker
And so the question is, because pre-COVID, I mean, we're four years after COVID now, right?
00:49:02
Speaker
But pre-COVID, these machines, respectively, were, you know, Pro was at like 61, 62.
00:49:07
Speaker
Right.
00:49:09
Speaker
Premium was like, it was high sevens, low eights, I want to say.
00:49:15
Speaker
And then your LEs were under 10.
00:49:17
Speaker
And we jumped, you know, a lot.
00:49:20
Speaker
I mean, your LE went up three, four grand.
00:49:23
Speaker
Your premium went up almost $1,700.
00:49:25
Speaker
And then your pros went up almost $1,000.
00:49:30
Speaker
And so my question is, I guess to everyone that's sitting here listening, wondering about this, is โ€“
00:49:38
Speaker
has all the pinball companies put themselves in a pickle at this point?
00:49:41
Speaker
Because if you do drop the price, it automatically devalues everything that's been bought in the last four years.
00:49:49
Speaker
There is a cascade effect.
00:49:51
Speaker
Yes.
00:49:51
Speaker
Definitely is a cascade effect.
00:49:53
Speaker
And it sends shockwaves, exactly what you're saying.
00:49:56
Speaker
So...
00:49:58
Speaker
it becomes it's like well do we keep prices where they are even though we're selling less units and try to find money elsewhere or do we drop price and i guarantee every company because look at look at barrio's barbecue challenge it's it's 69.95 galactic tank force bottom one wasn't that i want to say it was like 75 i could be wrong um i mean turner pinball apparently just dropped theirs three grand you see what i'm saying like we're we're
00:50:24
Speaker
we're looking at pinball prices are starting to drop across the board.
00:50:28
Speaker
Granted Stern is the big dog.
00:50:30
Speaker
They have a lot more wiggle room than the rest of them do.
00:50:33
Speaker
And they're not hurting as much as other companies.
00:50:36
Speaker
Correct.
00:50:36
Speaker
They're not, they're still selling games.
00:50:38
Speaker
Correct.
00:50:39
Speaker
So it's going to be intriguing to see what happens this next couple of years.
00:50:44
Speaker
If we see, I think the $2,000 price tag is to kind of help make up for some money that may not be there from previous titles.
00:50:53
Speaker
I could be wrong, though.
00:50:54
Speaker
Like you said, a game like this, it's a $1,000 topper.
00:50:58
Speaker
Now, the one thing I don't have access to, and...
00:51:02
Speaker
And our good friend Josh Sharp pointed this out when I was railing about topper prices back in the day.
00:51:08
Speaker
It's like the one thing you don't have is any numbers to back up your argument.
00:51:12
Speaker
And I totally appreciate that.
00:51:14
Speaker
I appreciate that.
00:51:15
Speaker
I don't have access to their sales.
00:51:17
Speaker
I don't have access to their margins.
00:51:19
Speaker
I don't know.
00:51:20
Speaker
This is me looking at a topper and saying that they're probably...
00:51:26
Speaker
I'm guessing on a build a material for a machine, you're probably looking at about 55 to maybe 60% is build materials.
00:51:41
Speaker
And they're working with a 45 to 40% margin.
00:51:47
Speaker
The total price of the game, right?
00:51:49
Speaker
Yeah.
00:51:49
Speaker
Okay.
00:51:50
Speaker
These, if you look at these things and there is...
00:51:55
Speaker
maybe 20%.
00:51:55
Speaker
Yeah.
00:51:57
Speaker
Like that topper does not cost more than $400 to make.
00:52:01
Speaker
That's true.
00:52:02
Speaker
There's no chance.
00:52:04
Speaker
And so this is definitely a high margin thing.
00:52:08
Speaker
Would they sell a bunch more at a lower price?
00:52:12
Speaker
Yeah, they would.
00:52:14
Speaker
Now, is it worth it to them to lower the price and to sell?
00:52:20
Speaker
It seems like the answer is no.
00:52:22
Speaker
Yeah.
00:52:23
Speaker
Because they are showing with the product and their pricing that they are more interested in whatever sales numbers and sales margin they're getting from that product.
00:52:36
Speaker
Yeah.
00:52:37
Speaker
Go ahead.
00:52:38
Speaker
Go ahead.
00:52:38
Speaker
I was just going to say the other thing too is prices have โ€“
00:52:42
Speaker
your bill of material that you've been talking about prices of those haven't come down since COVID as well.
00:52:47
Speaker
Yeah.
00:52:47
Speaker
So we do have to take that factor as well too.
00:52:49
Speaker
Right.
00:52:50
Speaker
The, and the, the challenge is what this does is eventually.
00:52:57
Speaker
Okay.
00:52:58
Speaker
You're not, you're probably not old enough to remember this.
00:53:01
Speaker
Okay.
00:53:02
Speaker
Just say, just throwing this out there.
00:53:03
Speaker
Okay.
00:53:05
Speaker
The movie that actually is,
00:53:08
Speaker
from my recollection, totally broke the mold for home ownership of a product was Top Gun.
00:53:18
Speaker
Oh, yeah.
00:53:19
Speaker
Because there's a reason why they had video rental places that you were paying a couple bucks to rent Star Wars or whatever it was, is because they were selling the movies for 75 bucks.
00:53:37
Speaker
And this is back in like 1983 or whatever.
00:53:42
Speaker
TopCon was released in 86.
00:53:45
Speaker
Okay.
00:53:46
Speaker
Oh, no, I know.
00:53:47
Speaker
But what I'm saying is before that, the prices for these, if you wanted to buy the actual, if you wanted to buy a non-bootleg,
00:53:58
Speaker
That's the bottom line.
00:53:59
Speaker
If you want to buy a product from Paramount Pictures, it was like $75 to buy Return of the Jedi or whatever.
00:54:08
Speaker
And I know that's not Paramount, that's Fox.
00:54:11
Speaker
But when Top Gun came out, they started advertising, hey, you want Top Gun? $19.95.
00:54:21
Speaker
Like, like you can buy it from us.
00:54:23
Speaker
You can buy the original because what was happening is they were losing so much money to bootleggers or people who would rent like back in the day, people would rent a movie.
00:54:34
Speaker
They would have a VCR attached to another VCR and they would just copy it.
00:54:40
Speaker
Yeah.
00:54:41
Speaker
And so they had the, like back in the eighties, like watch the Goldbergs walk, walk into someone's VCR collection.
00:54:48
Speaker
And it was all a whole bunch of like handwritten labels on these movies because they were all bootlegged.
00:54:55
Speaker
Okay.
00:54:56
Speaker
So what you're doing when you start setting these prices at what they are,
00:55:02
Speaker
is you are giving incentive for people to look at unlicensed products as an alternative.
00:55:12
Speaker
And whether or not, now we all have seen them, the unlicensed toppers, and I'm not promoting this at all,
00:55:19
Speaker
But outside of the country, there are people who basically take the artwork, Zombie Yeti's art, and they screen print it on a piece of plastic and they sell it for $275.
00:55:33
Speaker
And people put it on their machine.
00:55:34
Speaker
And that's going to increase the incentive for people to do that if they want a topper look on a game.
00:55:41
Speaker
Yeah.
00:55:42
Speaker
And it's easier to bootleg a topper or, you know, a shooter rod.
00:55:47
Speaker
The game itself, there's just no way.
00:55:50
Speaker
No, no.
00:55:51
Speaker
But the side armor, you can definitely buy alternative versions of laser cut side armor for $100.
00:55:56
Speaker
Yep.
00:55:58
Speaker
So, no, I get you.
00:56:00
Speaker
I think, like I said, I think we're really in the Wild West of pinball pricing at the moment because I don't think anyone has the answer.
00:56:08
Speaker
there's a lot of variable factors.
00:56:10
Speaker
Like you said, we don't have the numbers.
00:56:12
Speaker
We don't see behind the scenes of those numbers.
00:56:14
Speaker
No one does besides the higher ups at work at Stern.
00:56:17
Speaker
So we're just trending at where newer games are coming out price-wise.
00:56:24
Speaker
I bet we see some shift here in the next couple of years.
00:56:27
Speaker
Where that shift goes, I don't know.
00:56:29
Speaker
And I said shift.
00:56:30
Speaker
I kind of said, okay, lost the F in it.
00:56:34
Speaker
Yeah.
00:56:34
Speaker
Oops.
00:56:35
Speaker
You know, I will also argue that I am not super interested in Stern's shooter rods.
00:56:44
Speaker
Me neither.
00:56:44
Speaker
They kind of stink to be, to be frank.
00:56:47
Speaker
And this is, this is a physics thing.
00:56:50
Speaker
You feel a shooter rod.
00:56:52
Speaker
That's an OEM shooter rod.
00:56:54
Speaker
And then you compare it to the shooter odds.
00:56:57
Speaker
Now I have three extra shooter odds that I have put in my games.
00:57:01
Speaker
I have rush.
00:57:03
Speaker
I have a Avengers infinity quest, and I also have Jurassic park.
00:57:08
Speaker
Okay.
00:57:09
Speaker
They stink.
00:57:11
Speaker
Because they are heavier than the OEM one.
00:57:16
Speaker
And I'm not kidding how ridiculous it is on Avengers Infinity Quest.
00:57:21
Speaker
The cool shooter rod that you pay extra for, you pull it back into a full plunge and it doesn't even make it all the way around.
00:57:31
Speaker
You have to auto plunge it to make it all the way around.
00:57:35
Speaker
And Rush is kind of the same way, but you kind of do want a short plunge on Rush so it's not as big of a deal.
00:57:42
Speaker
But the fact that...
00:57:44
Speaker
They obviously don't care.
00:57:46
Speaker
Like you're supposed to.
00:57:48
Speaker
You put in more concise string to it.
00:57:50
Speaker
Yeah, you can, but you shouldn't have to modify something that's a licensed accessory from the manufacturer.
00:57:58
Speaker
No, that's what I'm saying.
00:57:59
Speaker
I agree with you.
00:58:00
Speaker
They should be putting the spring in at the factory as they're assembling it.
00:58:03
Speaker
They should make sure that the pull, like how far you pull back the shooter rod is.
00:58:09
Speaker
on a custom like knob is going to give you the same force.
00:58:14
Speaker
This is a physics equation.
00:58:17
Speaker
This has nothing to do because it's the moment of inertia because you have a heavier piece of plastic on the shooter rod.
00:58:25
Speaker
Yeah.
00:58:25
Speaker
So the one thing you don't want to do is pay more to upgrade a game and you get a less like a worse experience than something that is 6,000 bucks out of the box.
00:58:37
Speaker
No, I agree.
00:58:39
Speaker
So I think, I think we've talked about this one.
00:58:42
Speaker
So I drove that into the ground, but I, okay.
00:58:44
Speaker
Tell me if I'm wrong.
00:58:45
Speaker
If you, if you think I'm wrong, it's fine.
00:58:47
Speaker
Tell me I'm wrong.
00:58:49
Speaker
Tell Scott.
00:58:50
Speaker
Yeah.
00:58:51
Speaker
Tell me actually send it to Josh.
00:58:52
Speaker
Cause Josh checks all the email.
00:58:57
Speaker
Oh my goodness.
00:58:58
Speaker
All right.
00:58:59
Speaker
Uh, tilt Bob, Bob pinball, a new pinball company has officially revealed their game road trip.
00:59:05
Speaker
Not the full game though.
00:59:07
Speaker
Just like the lower, like,
00:59:09
Speaker
Two thirds.
00:59:10
Speaker
They've like confidential stuff over the top or top third.
00:59:18
Speaker
I'm going to go first.
00:59:19
Speaker
Okay.
00:59:20
Speaker
This is you go, go.
00:59:24
Speaker
This looks like another division of like pinball adventures from the like almost children book artwork on the play field to the concept.
00:59:35
Speaker
It just, it's,
00:59:37
Speaker
It's not for me.
00:59:39
Speaker
Okay.
00:59:40
Speaker
It's a no for me dog, as Randy would say off of American Idol, like, what, 30 years ago?
00:59:46
Speaker
Okay, so why would you say that?
00:59:49
Speaker
I know you're just saying on presentation.
00:59:51
Speaker
Presentation.
00:59:53
Speaker
The game looked like it was really fun to shoot.
00:59:55
Speaker
Like...
00:59:56
Speaker
as the guy's shooting it, I don't fully understand what that left ramp is doing.
01:00:00
Speaker
It looks like you hit it, and it kind of just dumps it in the upper play field.
01:00:05
Speaker
I don't know if there's something up there they're trying to hide.
01:00:07
Speaker
I mean, obviously they are, because it's a confidential thing.
01:00:10
Speaker
But it just...
01:00:13
Speaker
I guess this is the hard part, right?
01:00:14
Speaker
Like, okay.
01:00:15
Speaker
Well, let's talk Ninja Eclipse from like six months ago.
01:00:18
Speaker
Like if you were like, if you were comparing, it'd probably be a no from there.
01:00:21
Speaker
But I think if tilt Bob reverses course on some of this, if they get some well-known names from the pinball industry in there that know what they're doing just to give them some advice, I'm not saying to come in and like pay them to remake the thing.
01:00:34
Speaker
Okay.
01:00:34
Speaker
Just, just get some good constructive criticism to make this better because as it sits right now, I have no interest in this game.
01:00:43
Speaker
That's just me.
01:00:44
Speaker
Okay.
01:00:45
Speaker
Okay.
01:00:46
Speaker
Now this is still in the, Hey, we're revealing it and it's getting like, this is not a production ready game, right?
01:00:58
Speaker
Yeah.
01:00:59
Speaker
So you can't buy it right now.
01:01:01
Speaker
Nope.
01:01:02
Speaker
And it says it probably still won't be ready.
01:01:04
Speaker
It says it should be ready by the end of 2024.
01:01:05
Speaker
If I remember correctly.
01:01:07
Speaker
So it's, it's not making a public.
01:01:09
Speaker
Yeah.
01:01:09
Speaker
Yeah.
01:01:11
Speaker
So it's public day as nap says public debut in 2024.
01:01:16
Speaker
So, okay.
01:01:18
Speaker
So yeah, this, okay.
01:01:21
Speaker
I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing.
01:01:24
Speaker
They have the screen in the play field, which makes you think of alien, right?
01:01:29
Speaker
Back in the day.
01:01:30
Speaker
Yeah.
01:01:30
Speaker
Like the original alien.
01:01:33
Speaker
It also has, uh,
01:01:35
Speaker
You know, it has wire form ramps that actually I would say look like pretty good.
01:01:40
Speaker
They're colored, they're powder coated, which makes you think a little bit of like Roller Coaster Tycoon, right?
01:01:46
Speaker
Yep.
01:01:47
Speaker
The artwork does feel very much like an 80s game, or it feels very much like, you know, those carpets that you buy for your kids' rooms that have, like, the... And this is not an insult.
01:02:00
Speaker
Yeah, it's like... Yeah, you have a Matchbox card, and you go around, and you go... That's what it looks like.
01:02:06
Speaker
Yep.
01:02:08
Speaker
We know that... Okay, it does look professional, though.
01:02:11
Speaker
Yeah.
01:02:13
Speaker
It does look like they did put some effort onto the artwork.
01:02:17
Speaker
The cows seem strange.
01:02:22
Speaker
Like, do the cows move?
01:02:23
Speaker
Because it kind of looks like there's a slot on the cows.
01:02:26
Speaker
Yeah, actually, they're pop-up targets.
01:02:28
Speaker
Yeah, you hit them and they drop down.
01:02:30
Speaker
Yeah.
01:02:31
Speaker
So they seem different, but...
01:02:37
Speaker
Maybe they're going for a โ€“ this is definitely someone that would go for a family theme.
01:02:43
Speaker
Yeah.
01:02:45
Speaker
Is Road Trip something that people are clamoring for?
01:02:49
Speaker
No.
01:02:50
Speaker
But if it's a fun shooter โ€“ It has been done before.
01:02:55
Speaker
It has been, yeah.
01:02:56
Speaker
If it's a fun shooter and it has interesting call-outs, maybe.
01:03:00
Speaker
PGC's Vacation.
01:03:01
Speaker
Yeah.
01:03:02
Speaker
Yeah.
01:03:04
Speaker
Anywho.
01:03:04
Speaker
Yeah.
01:03:05
Speaker
It is a little puzzling that someone would go with with an unlicensed thing for a for a debut, I guess.
01:03:16
Speaker
Yeah.
01:03:18
Speaker
And there's a reason why Labyrinth went with, you know, Labyrinth.
01:03:22
Speaker
Yep.
01:03:24
Speaker
Because I haven't had people contact me who Labyrinth for
01:03:29
Speaker
no apparent reason is like one of their favorite movies.
01:03:33
Speaker
I, I don't think that it doesn't connect at all with me because I saw it like six months ago and I just thought it was weird, but it does connect with some people.
01:03:44
Speaker
So going off something like this, is there no license that you could afford?
01:03:49
Speaker
Or maybe they're just thinking we're not going to make a thousand of these.
01:03:53
Speaker
And so they just want something safe, like America's most haunted.
01:03:57
Speaker
Yeah.
01:03:57
Speaker
Or something like that.
01:03:58
Speaker
Which really isn't a bad idea.
01:03:59
Speaker
Like really, I mean, America's most haunted was 125.
01:04:02
Speaker
So that makes sense.
01:04:04
Speaker
Good luck to them.
01:04:06
Speaker
Let's see.
01:04:07
Speaker
We're going to Expo.
01:04:08
Speaker
So I'm guessing maybe they'll have it there.
01:04:10
Speaker
I don't know.
01:04:10
Speaker
I'll play it.
01:04:12
Speaker
I'll give my thoughts.
01:04:13
Speaker
I would say initial impressions though.
01:04:15
Speaker
Initial impressions make me.
01:04:21
Speaker
Uh,
01:04:22
Speaker
Yeah, it just looks like too much of a throwback.
01:04:26
Speaker
Yeah.
01:04:27
Speaker
And so I'm hoping that it's going to, you know, whatever their top secret thing up there is going to be really cool.
01:04:34
Speaker
Yeah.
01:04:35
Speaker
But it's, you know, right now it's more of a curiosity than I'm really interested in buying this game.
01:04:45
Speaker
All right, let's talk the last rumor flying around right now.
01:04:48
Speaker
The new Bally Williams company.
01:04:50
Speaker
So I don't know if this is like separate from Pendretti because Pendretti was announced back in January.
01:04:55
Speaker
They are officially licensed with Planetary Pinball and they do plan on making remakes.
01:05:03
Speaker
Or if this is like a separate company entirely, but my money's on Pendretti.
01:05:08
Speaker
But the rumor is, is the remake coming out from them, the new Bally Williams company next month,
01:05:14
Speaker
is Funhaus, which would go in line with my Pedretti because they made Funhaus 2.0.
01:05:19
Speaker
It only makes sense if they already have the license for the 2.0.
01:05:23
Speaker
Why wouldn't you make?
01:05:25
Speaker
Honestly, Funhaus is a really good game, and I think it would do well as a remake.
01:05:30
Speaker
There are other ones that I would go with first.
01:05:33
Speaker
That's my gut feeling.
01:05:35
Speaker
I think if you already have production down, though, if you already have it already paid for, it's
01:05:42
Speaker
I don't know.
01:05:42
Speaker
They already have another pipeline.
01:05:43
Speaker
And it was received modestly alright.
01:05:45
Speaker
It was better than Whirlwind.
01:05:48
Speaker
Sure.
01:05:49
Speaker
I'm trying to think of... I'm pulling up the list of the Bally Williams games from the 90s.
01:05:58
Speaker
Okay?
01:06:00
Speaker
So give me a second.
01:06:04
Speaker
I think with this being an original theme, you're not fighting licensing either outside of if you've already got the planetary pinball license.
01:06:12
Speaker
Yeah.
01:06:13
Speaker
You're not fighting very much there as well.
01:06:15
Speaker
Plus you're already doing the upgrades to the mystery mirror.
01:06:17
Speaker
Like they did the little, the little, uh, LCD there.
01:06:22
Speaker
I just, I think it's a smart move.
01:06:23
Speaker
Like I said, if it is for sure, Pondretti making fun house, I just, I think it's a smart decision.
01:06:29
Speaker
I get it, but as fun house, like, Hey, I just throwing things out there.
01:06:34
Speaker
I would do a tales of the Arabian nights first.
01:06:38
Speaker
I'm not going to fight you on that.
01:06:39
Speaker
No.
01:06:39
Speaker
Yeah.
01:06:39
Speaker
And I would also do theater magic before that.
01:06:42
Speaker
Okay.
01:06:43
Speaker
I would also do, if you can do it, Indiana Jones, the pinball adventure.
01:06:49
Speaker
Yeah.
01:06:50
Speaker
And they, they just made a new Indiana Jones movie that I know it didn't do super well, but my, my friend who sold his super awesome, uh,
01:07:01
Speaker
Indiana Jones, the Bally Williams game, the pinball adventure.
01:07:05
Speaker
He still says, you know, if they made that, I'd buy it right now.
01:07:08
Speaker
And his Tales of the Ruby Nights, he said the same thing.
01:07:11
Speaker
If they made that, I'd buy it right now.
01:07:13
Speaker
I don't feel the same way if they said, great, you know, there's a new fun house out there.
01:07:19
Speaker
And maybe it's just because I'm not the biggest Pat Lawler guy.
01:07:23
Speaker
Maybe I personally me, I think fun houses, his one of his best games he's made.
01:07:30
Speaker
Okay.
01:07:30
Speaker
I, I think out of all the Pat Lawler designs I've played, fun house is one of where I'm still excited to play every time I play it.
01:07:38
Speaker
Really?
01:07:39
Speaker
I love it.
01:07:40
Speaker
I think, okay.
01:07:41
Speaker
That's why I'm saying like, it's,
01:07:43
Speaker
Like I said, from a production standpoint, if you already own the licensing, you've already put money into development, which has 2.0, I just think it makes great business sense to get your company off the ground to begin with.
01:07:55
Speaker
I agree with you.
01:07:55
Speaker
There's probably better 90s games to start off with.
01:07:58
Speaker
But from a business standpoint, I think it's smart if they are going with that.
01:08:04
Speaker
It's still a solid game, and you are correct in saying that if you've already put some money into this theme, then maybe that's something to continue with.
01:08:14
Speaker
So I agree with you on that.
01:08:18
Speaker
And the secondary market, have you seen the secondary market for fun houses right now?
01:08:22
Speaker
It's insane.
01:08:22
Speaker
When I first got in, I thought $3,500 was insane for a fun house.
01:08:26
Speaker
Mm-hmm.
01:08:27
Speaker
For a fun house, this is not 2.0.
01:08:29
Speaker
This is just fun house straight out.
01:08:32
Speaker
You're still looking at high sixes, low sevens.
01:08:36
Speaker
So you're basically looking at Stern Pro.
01:08:38
Speaker
Yep.
01:08:39
Speaker
You're looking at Stern Pro.
01:08:40
Speaker
Okay.
01:08:41
Speaker
I guess there's one in Jersey for $5,800.
01:08:43
Speaker
One in San Diego for $61.
01:08:45
Speaker
Okay.
01:08:49
Speaker
one apparently in Phoenix for 13,000.
01:08:50
Speaker
That's cell pounding.
01:08:54
Speaker
I don't know what, does it mean?
01:08:55
Speaker
13,000 is what they're getting, but even the fun house 2.0 is, I wonder what people are trying to sell those 8,800 to 10, three.
01:09:03
Speaker
Yeah, that's a lot.
01:09:04
Speaker
One right now, if you want to buy in New York for 11K.
01:09:08
Speaker
There's three marketplace ads for Tales of the Arabian Nights.
01:09:13
Speaker
One's for 10,500, one's a trade, and one's 13,000 firm.
01:09:17
Speaker
Yep.
01:09:20
Speaker
Another one, let's just look at, and I know we're playing what if.
01:09:25
Speaker
Yeah, we are definitely playing what if.
01:09:26
Speaker
Because, you know, you made the point that, hey, if you're going to do it, you probably just want to stick with what you've already made.
01:09:36
Speaker
Okay, so Indiana Jones, the Pinball Adventures, $11,250, $12,500.
01:09:40
Speaker
So you're still looking at an LE Stern.
01:09:43
Speaker
Yeah.
01:09:51
Speaker
The question is, do you have to fight Disney on the licensing on something like that?
01:09:55
Speaker
Because now they own Indiana.
01:09:58
Speaker
Okay, I'm sorry.
01:10:00
Speaker
It can't be that hard.
01:10:02
Speaker
They made like a billion of the Marvel movies.
01:10:06
Speaker
True.
01:10:07
Speaker
Like it can't be that.
01:10:08
Speaker
They made Star Wars.
01:10:10
Speaker
It can't be that hard to negotiate an existing product.
01:10:14
Speaker
This is not even a new product.
01:10:17
Speaker
Yeah, true.
01:10:18
Speaker
You're just re-upping a license from, or would you even be re-upping a license?
01:10:22
Speaker
Because you would, well, I guess if you do any changes from the original, I don't know.
01:10:27
Speaker
I don't know.
01:10:27
Speaker
Tell us your thoughts.
01:10:28
Speaker
Do you think Funhaus is a good game?
01:10:31
Speaker
I don't know.
01:10:32
Speaker
It wouldn't be a good one for me, but I understand from a business decision-making standpoint why they would do it.
01:10:40
Speaker
Yeah.
01:10:42
Speaker
so okay i think that pretty much does it for us scott we've been i don't know if after i edit this down yeah we we went a little long so sorry hopefully we uh you enjoyed the time we had together definitely and uh we got plenty coming up so uh like i said we were supposed to record last saturday uh and sadly both our guests had to bail so um

Speaker
I don't know.
01:11:07
Speaker
We're trying to still figure this out.
01:11:09
Speaker

01:11:10
Speaker

01:11:57
Speaker
So I have to like manually update.
01:11:59
Speaker
You have to look at it.
01:11:59

01:12:00
Speaker

01:12:23
Speaker
Enjoy.
