Introduction to Solarpreneur Podcast

00:00:03
Speaker
Welcome to the Solarpreneur Podcast where we teach you to take your solar business to the next level.
00:00:08
Speaker
My name is Taylor Armstrong.

Taylor Armstrong's Success Story

00:00:10
Speaker
I went from $50 in my bank account and struggling for groceries to closing 150 deals in a year and cracking the code on why sales reps fell.
00:00:19
Speaker
I teach you to avoid the mistakes I made and bring in the top solar dogs of the industry to let you in on the secrets of generating more leads, falling up like a pro and closing more deals.
00:00:31
Speaker
What is a Solarpreneur you might ask?
00:00:33
Speaker
A Solarpreneur is a new breed of Solar Pro that is willing to do whatever it takes to achieve mastery and you are about to become one.
00:00:43
Speaker
Okay, what's going on Solarpreneurs?

Live from Solarcon with Everett Brewer

00:00:45
Speaker
We are here live at Solarcon.
00:00:47
Speaker
Got a sweet setup here and I'm here with Everett Brewer.
00:00:51
Speaker
Thanks for joining us on the podcast.
00:00:53
Speaker
Yeah, appreciate being here, man.
00:00:54
Speaker
Yeah, it's a good time and we're, we both got, our voices are a little bit shot, I think, in the club last night.
00:01:01
Speaker
Yeah.
00:01:02
Speaker
They're blasting the music.
00:01:04
Speaker
Like I said, if your voice doesn't sound like this, you didn't take full advantage of the show.
00:01:08
Speaker
I know.
00:01:08
Speaker
It has been amazing.
00:01:09
Speaker
I know it's been awesome so hopefully everyone listening to this podcast was here and came and said hi.
00:01:16
Speaker
Yeah.
00:01:16
Speaker
But if not it's been a great event and I don't know what's been your favorite part.
00:01:20
Speaker
You spoke a couple times already.
00:01:22
Speaker
Yeah I had the opportunity to to you know support the training on the commercial panel talking about renewable energy and commercial solar.
00:01:29
Speaker
I had the opportunity to talk about the battery panel and go over some of the battery aspects and kind of high level aspects and questions that we had there and then had the
00:01:37
Speaker
a great opportunity to be on the main stage and talk about just batteries as a whole.
00:01:42
Speaker
You know, a lot of the takeaways that I've had from that, from responses was, is I now know how to size a battery.
00:01:47
Speaker
I now understand where I've, you know, set expectations that I didn't realize were wrong and the sizing of things.
00:01:54
Speaker
And now I can go in with confidence knowing that we can, you know, have the right outcome for our customers.
00:01:58
Speaker
Yeah, that's awesome.
00:01:59
Speaker
So as a battery expert like yourself, have you been surprised maybe by, I don't know, the lack of knowledge about batteries or surprised by

Challenges in Battery Knowledge and Training

00:02:07
Speaker
questions?
00:02:07
Speaker
You know, what I've really seen is that a lot of times when someone makes a decision regarding a product like this, you typically sit with their operations team and you sit down with their executive team, purchasing team, those kind of things.
00:02:19
Speaker
Really, the information just stops there.
00:02:22
Speaker
We've seen a lot of
00:02:23
Speaker
a lot of challenges that where the information just doesn't get down to the end of the end of the line with the sales reps.
00:02:27
Speaker
And I think us as manufacturers can do better.
00:02:30
Speaker
I just kind of challenge that to all manufacturers to where we can do better and making sure that we have proper sales training for sales reps.
00:02:38
Speaker
And that obviously brings continuity down to the installers because sometimes the installers don't end up with the same outcome.
00:02:44
Speaker
So yeah, you know, rep promise will hold back up and the installer shows up to grab a couple breakers for critical loads and there's just misalignment, right?
00:02:51
Speaker
And change is an
00:02:54
Speaker
an instant, you know, problem to where you have a lot of cancellations just because of that change in efficiency alone.
00:03:00
Speaker
And so we just need to do better.
00:03:01
Speaker
Yeah, I agree.
00:03:02
Speaker
And I'm starting to see more and more like manufacturers have someone that's over like the education now.
00:03:08
Speaker
Yeah.
00:03:09
Speaker
And I don't know if that's, is that something new you think?
00:03:11
Speaker
Yeah, I think that's really been the last 12 months, which I'm glad to see.
00:03:17
Speaker
But yeah, we can do better in some of those areas.
00:03:20
Speaker
But yeah, there is a lot of information around here.
00:03:22
Speaker
You know, you're really getting into electrical infrastructure.
00:03:25
Speaker
You know, a lot of guys say, I just go in, sell solar based off savings, and that's as far as I go.
00:03:31
Speaker
But, you know, battery is a different beast.
00:03:32
Speaker
And so there's quite a few different ways we can help trend that in the right direction.
00:03:36
Speaker
Yeah, no doubt.
00:03:37
Speaker
Well, yeah, we're grateful that you're able to come on the show and share some of that knowledge with us.
00:03:41
Speaker
And that's cool.
00:03:42
Speaker
We just had Michelle.
00:03:44
Speaker
She's kind of over education over at SolarEdge.
00:03:46
Speaker
And I think a lot of people are starting to have these people because before it's just like, you know, I'll go on Facebook and whatever I see on SolarPros or SolarObjections.
00:03:54
Speaker
Yeah.
00:03:54
Speaker
That's kind of my kind of knowledge a lot of times and batteries.
00:03:57
Speaker
So yeah, I guess we didn't introduce you much, but he's CEO of Storrs Power here.

Founding and Innovations of Storrs Power

00:04:03
Speaker
We're here at the booth right now.
00:04:04
Speaker
And so I don't know, do you want to give us just like a quick background on how you got into all this stuff and started?
00:04:10
Speaker
Yeah, all got in by accident, really.
00:04:12
Speaker
Never would have thought this would be doing for a living 10 years later.
00:04:15
Speaker
But Storrs Power is a 10 year old company, started in 2012.
00:04:19
Speaker
I had an opportunity to work with the technology that was new in the mission.
00:04:23
Speaker
If you know, ever heard the term nano printed lithium, that was us.
00:04:26
Speaker
So we started some of the higher tech aspects.
00:04:29
Speaker
That's where the hexagon comes from, actually.
00:04:30
Speaker
We used to print physical lithium on cells and we zoomed into it.
00:04:35
Speaker
It actually looked like a hexagon.
00:04:37
Speaker
So that's kind of where it's matured from from now.
00:04:39
Speaker
And through that journey, you know, we're a fifth generation of our product really excited about.
00:04:44
Speaker
Really, we were a cell manufacturer originally, where we just made the cells.
00:04:50
Speaker
And a lot of times our product was in somebody else's box in some way, shape, or form.
00:04:54
Speaker
And then in 2016, we decided to go ahead and certify our own product and start offering as what you see today.
00:04:59
Speaker
Nobody was really taking advantage of the technology, the performance.
00:05:03
Speaker
Some of the key things that we feel that was important for our space.
00:05:05
Speaker
Right.
00:05:06
Speaker
So it's been a fun journey.
00:05:07
Speaker
That's awesome.
00:05:08
Speaker
So 2016, were there many batteries around back then?
00:05:11
Speaker
You know, there's a few of them.
00:05:13
Speaker
You know, Tesla started getting in the market, started playing in that space.
00:05:16
Speaker
You know, I got to commend, you know, some of these other manufacturers, Tesla being one of them.
00:05:21
Speaker
I wouldn't have a business today if it wasn't for them.
00:05:23
Speaker
Wouldn't have obviously set the benchmark to where we knew what to do to outperform in some of these areas.
00:05:27
Speaker
So grateful to get us on the map.
00:05:29
Speaker
Yeah, not a whole lot of players.
00:05:31
Speaker
A lot of players were focusing on lithium ion.
00:05:35
Speaker
We felt that that just wasn't a good route for us to start evolving that chemistry just because the volatility to it.
00:05:41
Speaker
There's a lot of safety risks and concerns.
00:05:44
Speaker
So we were the early adopters of lithium iron phosphate.
00:05:48
Speaker
which allows us to eliminate some of those bigger risks.
00:05:51
Speaker
So, you know, do your research, do the YouTube videos of, you know, difference between lithium ion and lithium iron phosphate and some of the concerns of, you know, putting a hole in it, does it explode?
00:06:00
Speaker
No.
00:06:01
Speaker
We haven't had any fires, any explosions because that product just doesn't do that.
00:06:05
Speaker
So safety has been a big focus for us.
00:06:08
Speaker
Even when it was bigger and bulkier and more expensive at the time, I really was wanting to focus on quality than just quantity at that point, even though we were early adopters.

Consumer Shift to Safety and Reliability

00:06:17
Speaker
Yeah.
00:06:17
Speaker
Okay, makes sense.
00:06:18
Speaker
Yeah, so something I told you before the podcast, I'm not a, you know, super educated on batteries.
00:06:23
Speaker
And I don't know if you're seeing this, but like a lot of the cells training we got, it's I think it's changing more now.
00:06:29
Speaker
But like when batteries a couple years ago, we're first kind of getting bigger and all that.
00:06:33
Speaker
Yeah.
00:06:33
Speaker
all our sales teams are just like, forget about batteries.
00:06:36
Speaker
It's going to make it way more expensive.
00:06:38
Speaker
Like don't even try to offer it if they want it.
00:06:40
Speaker
Just try to steer them away from it as much as possible.
00:06:43
Speaker
So is that, I don't know, would you say that's what a lot of sales teams are?
00:06:45
Speaker
Yeah, we've heard that story a lot over the years.
00:06:48
Speaker
Just like, I just don't understand it.
00:06:50
Speaker
You know, I don't know how to size a battery.
00:06:52
Speaker
I don't know how to make sure it's installed correctly.
00:06:55
Speaker
Like there was a lot of just gaps
00:06:57
Speaker
and education as we talked earlier.
00:07:00
Speaker
And we really tried to gauge that, miss that, you know, change that gap.
00:07:03
Speaker
But yeah, there was literally people just shying away from, yeah, don't do it, you know.
00:07:07
Speaker
And it was just more out of just education.
00:07:09
Speaker
It wasn't the fact that the customers couldn't enjoy the options or the convenience of having a battery.
00:07:14
Speaker
And I think there was a shift that was happening too, right?
00:07:17
Speaker
We've all, the sales industry in solar has been so focused on saving, saving, savings, right?
00:07:22
Speaker
That was their door-to-door pitch that entire time.
00:07:25
Speaker
and batteries were putting some of the pricing up in some cases and what we found is i would probably say over 70 percent of consumers that look at a battery they're not looking for safety they're not they're not looking for savings savings yeah so they're looking for safety peace of mind you know got low cost of market low cost of energy markets like arkansas and tennessee and texas and florida yeah carolinas you know and uh
00:07:49
Speaker
That literally could be the difference of life or death for them.
00:07:51
Speaker
So it's been a big terror paradigm shift, selling value instead of savings.
00:07:56
Speaker
So it's been a little bit more of a transition for sales guys to get comfortable with that.
00:07:59
Speaker
Yeah.
00:08:00
Speaker
Okay.
00:08:00
Speaker
Well, yeah, I can see it makes probably a lot of sense.
00:08:03
Speaker
And Texas, a lot of these markets where they're not even really saving, it's like, all right, if you're not saving, might as well throw in a battery.
00:08:08
Speaker
But what about like California where like San Diego, where I am at, we're cutting them 50% on their bill.
00:08:16
Speaker
We had a battery, maybe it's only, I don't know, 20, 30%.
00:08:19
Speaker
But yeah, what would you say it's, I don't know, what's like your target market?
00:08:23
Speaker
Are you bigger in those states like Texas, those states versus California?
00:08:28
Speaker
It's been pretty across the board.
00:08:31
Speaker
We've already shipped to 37 states this year and growing.
00:08:35
Speaker
California is a big...
00:08:37
Speaker
supporter of battery storage because their infrastructure is pretty rough.
00:08:40
Speaker
Big consumers, they don't produce a lot of their own power.
00:08:43
Speaker
So they've also tried to, it's interesting, the right hand and the left hand don't talk to each other.
00:08:48
Speaker
The right hand says, hey, we've got to change the time of use billing because solar is impacting way too much my income.
00:08:53
Speaker
And so in the right hand, the left hand says, oh yeah, let's go ahead and go ahead and put an incentive out for battery storage.
00:08:59
Speaker
So they start shifting batteries over there.
00:09:01
Speaker
But yeah, batteries are extremely impactful for time of use markets like California and all
00:09:06
Speaker
10-year-old gas and electric in the summers are now 64 cents a kilowatt hour.
00:09:09
Speaker
So you can load up your battery during the day and discharge your battery from four to nine and have a major impact on your power bill.
00:09:15
Speaker
It's huge.
00:09:16
Speaker
So would you say that's almost more the benefit versus just like backup power?
00:09:20
Speaker
Yeah.
00:09:20
Speaker
Would that be bigger?
00:09:21
Speaker
Yeah, and we feel like the market and the utilities are starting to shift to those kind of structures.
00:09:27
Speaker
And so it's inevitable that if you already have a battery or looking at getting a battery, you're already prepared for that future and paradigm shift there when the utilities start fighting back a little bit more.
00:09:37
Speaker
Yeah.
00:09:37
Speaker
Because you can actually maintain a better result from your customers savings in their power bill.
00:09:42
Speaker
That makes sense.
00:09:43
Speaker
So yeah, how would you say, because when I'm in homes selling solar,

Simplifying Battery Sales and Understanding Market Needs

00:09:47
Speaker
I don't know.
00:09:48
Speaker
You try to find this balance between keeping it simple, not over-complicating things, because you know how it is.
00:09:53
Speaker
From a sales perspective, sometimes the more info you give people, like, okay, well, yeah, we want to go research these batteries.
00:09:59
Speaker
We want to go research XYZ.
00:10:01
Speaker
So from a sales perspective, do you have any advice on what you'd give people that maybe, if you're trying to sell a battery, how to keep it simple?
00:10:10
Speaker
And maybe not, you know, getting super deep in time of use and all that stuff.
00:10:14
Speaker
Yeah.
00:10:14
Speaker
So, like, add a ton of value.
00:10:16
Speaker
Yeah, there's a lot of different dynamics of that.
00:10:18
Speaker
You've got really four different tariffs in the United States.
00:10:21
Speaker
You've got, you know, true net metering, which, like, Florida still is right now.
00:10:24
Speaker
Yeah.
00:10:25
Speaker
That's really going to be in markets where you're just looking at batteries for backup only.
00:10:27
Speaker
Okay.
00:10:29
Speaker
You have markets that do a monthly buyback to where they give you a one-to-one credit on your net metering.
00:10:35
Speaker
But what happens is those rollover minutes don't roll over month to month like you do in traditional net metering.
00:10:40
Speaker
It just turns over once a month.
00:10:42
Speaker
And that's really a market where you're still going to be looking at just batteries as backup only.
00:10:47
Speaker
And then you have reduced buyback markets like here in Utah where...
00:10:51
Speaker
You buy at 12 and a half cents and they might only give you, they give you 5.89 cents a kilowatt hour back.
00:10:56
Speaker
And so that's where you're gonna use your battery every single day.
00:10:58
Speaker
That's gonna give you daily value.
00:11:00
Speaker
And then of course you got time of use markets that you're gonna use that every single day.
00:11:03
Speaker
So understand your market first, understand just how they simply bill.
00:11:08
Speaker
And the explanation I just gave you in per market is really as simple as it needs to go.
00:11:12
Speaker
One thing I will tell you is that Storz Power has been really pushing and working with a ton of the software platforms that you guys all use in the field.
00:11:21
Speaker
You know, the Interflows, the Quattiva, the Sonobis, the Solos, where we're actually helping build their battery tools.
00:11:30
Speaker
And so we've done that non-biased.
00:11:33
Speaker
And the fact is that we just need a standard in the industry as a whole.
00:11:37
Speaker
So that way a consumer gets the outcome that they're looking for.
00:11:40
Speaker
And it's really as simple as, hey, Mr. Customer, let's sit down and let's see what you want to get backed up.
00:11:47
Speaker
And it's literally a toggle where you can go over the different types of appliances and through that toggle it turns it on and it literally does the math for you.
00:11:54
Speaker
So it knows exactly how much battery needs to be deployed.
00:11:56
Speaker
So we've made it really simple to where in 30 seconds you can design and translate a battery in their solution for the customer, which is huge when it goes down the line, right?
00:12:07
Speaker
That way that installer shows up, he already knows what his target is, what he's backing up.
00:12:10
Speaker
That's awesome.
00:12:11
Speaker
You know, what he's physically touching on the home.
00:12:13
Speaker
And then of course the customer has the expectation to where we don't have the Texas outcome.
00:12:18
Speaker
The story I gave was that there was three demographics that were interviewed in Texas after the freeze storms.
00:12:24
Speaker
Folks that had batteries, folks that had generators, and folks that had one of those two on their wish list.
00:12:30
Speaker
and the number one response was is that i was grateful my fridge and freezer worked but i had expectations of much much more and so and the number one thing that they were a little frustrated about that wasn't backed up was hot water there's actually a lot of electric hot water heaters down there and uh in the freeze storm looking for hot water it's pretty big pretty big concern so um what i would recommend is simply is look through the platforms and the tools because they're now available and stores power is going to keep pushing
00:12:58
Speaker
the initiative, the work with the platforms to create an equal playing ground for everyone and kind of take the brain damage of sizing a battery.
00:13:06
Speaker
Okay, that's awesome.
00:13:07
Speaker
That's so cool how, yeah, it's like so much, when I got in Solor in 2016, you had to like know so much, there's like, I don't know, all the documents and all that, but now everything digital and like access it because, yeah, this is stuff I'd have no idea.
00:13:21
Speaker
People are like saying, oh, I want to back up this.
00:13:24
Speaker
Yep.
00:13:24
Speaker
So yeah, I'll have to check that out for sure.
00:13:26
Speaker
It's nice.
00:13:27
Speaker
You see it just on the screen showing you exactly what... They're super fun to use too and the consumer just has like a great experience.
00:13:33
Speaker
Yeah.
00:13:33
Speaker
Just really easy for them to translate.
00:13:35
Speaker
If they can adopt it, then it's really applicable.
00:13:37
Speaker
Yeah, that's awesome.
00:13:38
Speaker
So would you say like
00:13:40
Speaker
I don't know, would you recommend homeowners have like whole home backups with battery?
00:13:44
Speaker
Does that even make financial sense?
00:13:46
Speaker
Like if someone says, oh, I want my entire home backed up, like if there's apocalypse, is that feasible with batteries now?
00:13:52
Speaker
Do you know what can be now?
00:13:54
Speaker
I'll tell you this.
00:13:55
Speaker
I'll just take our approach into

AI Technology in Home Energy Management

00:13:57
Speaker
the market is that whole home backup can mean a lot of different things, right?
00:14:00
Speaker
Does whole home backup mean that I'm going to be sitting in the hot tub in the apocalypse, as he stated?
00:14:04
Speaker
Yeah.
00:14:05
Speaker
You know, watching the world burn down.
00:14:07
Speaker
Realistically, probably not, right?
00:14:09
Speaker
But when you take a more of a realistic approach for hauling back up, in an emergency, people are by default are going to be a lot more conservative, right?
00:14:18
Speaker
That's one thing you can always bet on.
00:14:19
Speaker
You're like, oh, well, we are into some type of event, whether the tree hit the power line for a day and you got to wait for the power line company to come fix that too.
00:14:27
Speaker
you know, hurricanes, storms, fires like in Northern California.
00:14:30
Speaker
So, a home backup can be achieved, but our approach to it is simply is leveraging our controls.
00:14:36
Speaker
So, usually in a home, not everything is running at the same time, right?
00:14:39
Speaker
Not every light in the house is on, not every TV in the house is on.
00:14:42
Speaker
You know, that washer and dryer's not always got a load in it.
00:14:45
Speaker
Depends on how many kids you got, right?
00:14:47
Speaker
Yeah.
00:14:47
Speaker
Let's get the kids and the family's always running and growing.
00:14:50
Speaker
But those are the things that we actually bet on and we actually take an approach to it.
00:14:54
Speaker
So, you'll see our logo that says AI+.
00:14:56
Speaker
Our AI is an artificial intelligence that helps the consumer on-grid and off-grid in the approach that when the home is occupied in different times of the day, right?
00:15:06
Speaker
Dinner, everybody's in the kitchen.
00:15:08
Speaker
You know, evening, you guys are sitting down watching your Netflix and doing homework or whatever that may be.
00:15:13
Speaker
You know, you start going into bed.
00:15:14
Speaker
You know, the bedrooms are usually filled up.
00:15:17
Speaker
You know, during the day, you got light through the windows and you're not really using that.
00:15:21
Speaker
And so we actually take our AI and we start creating a profile.
00:15:25
Speaker
Right.
00:15:25
Speaker
And so that way we can run the home more efficiently and can reduce consumption and reduce peak load.
00:15:31
Speaker
Okay.
00:15:32
Speaker
So what batteries and where it really comes down to adding extra expense is because once you have these big blocks of energy, um, where everything is running all at once, that's where you have to add more batteries.
00:15:43
Speaker
It's not because you need a bigger gas tank because batteries can only output so much continuous.
00:15:49
Speaker
So think of it in the example, my buddy, Nate, I'll give him some credit here, put it in a little bit different terms for me.
00:15:55
Speaker
If you have a truckload of solar panels you're pulling down the road, you're going to need a bigger engine, right?
00:16:02
Speaker
You're going to need that diesel pusher, and you're going to need to make sure you have that engine to pull that load.
00:16:08
Speaker
And then if you need to turn around and push it, you actually have to turn that truck around and push it as well.
00:16:13
Speaker
Now, are you gonna get as much gas mileage because you're pulling that bigger load?
00:16:16
Speaker
No, because you're running that engine pretty hard.
00:16:19
Speaker
But yet, if you go buy a Prius, that Prius can run for a very, very, very, very long time, but because the load is the driver and that's it.
00:16:28
Speaker
And so what we've taken the approach of is that we've reduced the load by anywhere from 40 to 60% at any given time.
00:16:36
Speaker
So one system can actually,
00:16:39
Speaker
have enough horsepower to run the home appliances as needed when needed instead of all at the same time and we energy manage that so that's what's pretty key so that means our our approach is is that build a smarter battery not a bigger battery and so we focus on that on sustainability of raw materials yeah which i think is important right now we're in kind of this big shortage and crunch right yeah and yet i'm doing more with less
00:17:04
Speaker
where I'm having less of a challenge with inventory and supply chain where everybody else is like, yeah, I need three Tesla Powerwalls.
00:17:12
Speaker
I need two Generac systems.
00:17:15
Speaker
And we don't have to take that approach.
00:17:17
Speaker
Now it's more affordable for the customer too.
00:17:19
Speaker
Yeah, okay.
00:17:21
Speaker
So what you're saying is if a homeowner wants to, if they tried to run everything, it would say, it would kick off or something and not let them run it.
00:17:30
Speaker
Or if the homeowner wants to run everything, you are going to buy default stack systems and the price will go up.
00:17:36
Speaker
Okay.
00:17:37
Speaker
So the question you should be asking people is like, hey, are you okay with not, like it's going to give you power, but you're not going to be able to run a million things at once and just kind of see exactly how many things they would want running.
00:17:50
Speaker
Yeah, we just give our customers an app.
00:17:51
Speaker
It's called a smart access app.
00:17:53
Speaker
It's smart with their budget, but they can still access those breakers as needed.
00:17:56
Speaker
And so...
00:17:57
Speaker
If they're ready for dinner, you literally just go on your app and turn your oven on.
00:18:01
Speaker
It's like ready to go.
00:18:02
Speaker
But yet, you don't need your oven all the time.
00:18:03
Speaker
So shut it back off.
00:18:04
Speaker
You're not wasting that energy anymore.
00:18:05
Speaker
You can dedicate it to another location.
00:18:08
Speaker
So it's super easy.
00:18:09
Speaker
That's awesome.
00:18:09
Speaker
Yeah.
00:18:10
Speaker
And then, so would that be something you talked about how you're integrating with like, you know, all these apps.
00:18:15
Speaker
Would that be something that it would show you do based on how many things the homeowner wants to run?
00:18:19
Speaker
You could like choose how many batteries and things like that they need.
00:18:23
Speaker
Yeah, absolutely.
00:18:23
Speaker
As you start adding those up,
00:18:25
Speaker
on those toggles and some of these platforms and tools, makes it really easy where we actually do all that math and calculation for you.
00:18:32
Speaker
Yeah, that's awesome.
00:18:33
Speaker
Well, what's cool about the batteries, I don't know, maybe I just kind of thought of this, but I think it makes it more of an emotional thing where solar, especially in California,

Emotional Appeal in Battery Sales

00:18:42
Speaker
it's so logical.
00:18:42
Speaker
It's just like, hey, you're going to save 50 bucks a month, whatever.
00:18:45
Speaker
But as you know, it's like any cell, if you can get emotion into it, that's why people are going to buy.
00:18:52
Speaker
And then they just buy it with logic.
00:18:53
Speaker
Yeah.
00:18:54
Speaker
I think that's what's cool with batteries is solar, I think it's sometimes tough to make, like create that emotional draw to it.
00:19:02
Speaker
And sometimes people don't buy it just based off the logic.
00:19:05
Speaker
Yeah.
00:19:05
Speaker
So with, I don't know, with batteries, would you say if you're selling it, like, I don't know, do you have some examples?
00:19:10
Speaker
Are you telling like stories, maybe like a Texas?
00:19:13
Speaker
Oh, this guy had his power when everyone else was shut off.
00:19:16
Speaker
Yeah, we've got a ton of cool stories, man.
00:19:18
Speaker
We, you know, you're exactly right.
00:19:20
Speaker
Solar is very transactional, right?
00:19:24
Speaker
But batteries have a total different outcome as far as what's trying to be accomplished.
00:19:29
Speaker
And I mean, it's all over the map.
00:19:30
Speaker
I can give you a story of a gal that called us about six weeks ago and she simply said that she had a CPAP machine and she sleeps like a freaking log, like does not wake up.
00:19:41
Speaker
Someone has to wake her up in the morning.
00:19:44
Speaker
And the power went out.
00:19:45
Speaker
And if it wasn't for our transfer that happened so quickly with our products,
00:19:51
Speaker
and our partners, then it literally would have, she would have lost her life.
00:19:56
Speaker
Like that CPAP machine in a power outage, most battery products out there transfer so slow that a lot of your appliances and your mechanical women will actually reset.
00:20:07
Speaker
And you got to go physically turn it back on again.
00:20:09
Speaker
And so it saved her life.
00:20:11
Speaker
And so she went all the way out of the way to point to where she was working with her medical company and
00:20:17
Speaker
or her doctors and supply and it literally came out with a huge income where they're calling us and hey what can we do to certify this.
00:20:26
Speaker
So it's been really fun to see some cool stories.
00:20:28
Speaker
Have you guys gotten like I don't know some videos of these people like because that would be super fun.
00:20:32
Speaker
You're like oh this battery saved my life.
00:20:34
Speaker
Yeah we are working on it.
00:20:36
Speaker
That'd be super fun.
00:20:37
Speaker
Yeah there's some cool stories out there.
00:20:38
Speaker
Yeah that's awesome.
00:20:40
Speaker
Well, no, you guys are doing some incredible things with it.
00:20:44
Speaker
And so one of the other bigger questions I have is, I guess, another thing that's kind of been taught in older sales trainings of reasons why not to sell a battery is like, oh, technology is improving, price is going down, maybe batteries will be way better in the future.
00:20:59
Speaker
So what do you say to that argument?
00:21:01
Speaker
Well, the interesting part about that is that
00:21:04
Speaker
The answer never changes.
00:21:07
Speaker
It's like the sign that's on the store that says, you know, free Coke's tomorrow.
00:21:11
Speaker
It's always tomorrow.
00:21:13
Speaker
You'll never catch up to tomorrow.
00:21:15
Speaker
And so you need to take care of your needs today.
00:21:18
Speaker
And so with our approach is that with our AI+, we never become obsolete.
00:21:24
Speaker
So it's software.
00:21:25
Speaker
We're really a software company.
00:21:27
Speaker
It plugs in a battery, brings value to that.
00:21:30
Speaker
And in our cases, we'll always keep it current to where grid services become available.
00:21:34
Speaker
If your utility changes how they're billing you, that battery is going to have the same application of value to you today as it will 10 and 15 years down the road.
00:21:42
Speaker
Oh, okay.
00:21:43
Speaker
That's incredible.
00:21:43
Speaker
Yeah.
00:21:44
Speaker
Okay.
00:21:44
Speaker
So yeah, that kind of crushes those arguments.
00:21:47
Speaker
Okay, and then well looks like we're sitting in the conference center and looks like they're kind of shutting us down with the recording.
00:21:55
Speaker
But I guess last question I had just real quick.
00:22:02
Speaker
So there's a lot of batteries out there.
00:22:03
Speaker
Then you kind of told me a little bit yesterday about why should people use a storage power battery versus, you know, just using a power wall or what's your case to use you guys versus some of these other batteries?
00:22:15
Speaker
Yeah, you know, one thing is performance, right?
00:22:17
Speaker
So the story I always say is that we can outperform two Tesla Powerwalls, but install 22% cheaper than one.
00:22:23
Speaker
So we have more power output than anything.
00:22:25
Speaker
We're gonna bring in the full connected home and the whole home experience, which is really awesome.
00:22:29
Speaker
So that's a big piece.
00:22:30
Speaker
And simplicity of installation and really quick commissioning.
00:22:34
Speaker
So guys are doing our jobs in a day where other products are two, three, four days.
00:22:38
Speaker
So everything is more efficient from every point that touches our systems.
00:22:42
Speaker
That's awesome.
00:22:44
Speaker
That's awesome.
00:22:44
Speaker
Well, it's been awesome having you on.
00:22:46
Speaker
Wish we had another hour.
00:22:48
Speaker
We might have to do a follow-up podcast.
00:22:49
Speaker
Yeah, for sure.
