Introduction and Secret Homework

00:00:01
Speaker
Welcome to episode 55 of Snap on This, a Marvel Snap podcast. This week's secret homework, watch K-pop Demon Hunters, or We the People.
00:00:12
Speaker
I'm your host, Lauren Whadevs, here with my usual co-hosts.

Board Game Retreat Planning

00:00:15
Speaker
First up, Rhi, how was your week in Snap? And keep it snappy. Okay, I'm really distracted this week ah for the reason that we are recording early, which is that tomorrow is my board game retreat, which I've discussed previously. If you are a longtime listener, as I know, your plus podcast. so We're so established.
00:00:42
Speaker
um But okay, and I'm like, it's like what I've been like kind of spending all day. getting ready for instead of making food. And um so I thought, I was good last week, that I would just give blueprints.
00:01:02
Speaker
ah for for, you know having making your own board game retreat because it's really the best thing ever. Everyone should do it.

Organizing Retreats: Music, Venues, and Food

00:01:12
Speaker
um And I wish ah we could all do it because we were closer the Snap crew. Okay. Yeah, that would be fun. I would love that. Yeah, see? In fact, I have literally dreamed about that. Oh. it's ah it It's really the best thing. I was like, i ah you know,
00:01:33
Speaker
ah been down for a bit because I was like, I had some stuff I wanted to get done one to the treat and due to some some illness and some scope creep and a variety of things, I didn't get everything done and I was feeling down.
00:01:47
Speaker
But today, I was getting ready... um You know, i was just smiling, like thinking about what a good time it is. It's really the best. Okay. um So the first thing you definitely need is a cool name.
00:02:01
Speaker
I always say board game retreat, but that's not what we call it. I'm not going to give you our secret name. That isn't really secret. I just like to be dramatic um because then it's too long of a story and we'd get sidetracked.
00:02:15
Speaker
But it's cool because then you then you all talk about it or whenever you talk about nobody knows what you're talking about. It makes no sense. And literally everything is better. I've found in life it has a cool name.
00:02:26
Speaker
You need to, like, make a plan of some sort, give it a cool operational name. so it's like ah it's like a code name? Yeah. Okay. Got it. Um...
00:02:40
Speaker
So, yeah. And then you need, like, a clubhouse because you need someone to talk about it and get... Because, like, getting hyped is part of it. um and like, ours started on Facebook groups.
00:02:56
Speaker
But because I, many, many years ago, wanted to be done with Facebook and all its affiliates, I'm convinced everyone to move to a Discord where we have lived since.
00:03:08
Speaker
Um... And then, okay, next thing, very important, music. um The rules are this. So there's a playlist that goes all week long. We have one person who's like our music person. They have like linked speakers so that it's like all throughout the common areas of the house, the same music it's playing is playing. It's like exquisite.
00:03:33
Speaker
Everyone gets to contribute 50 songs. No more, no less. That's the rules. And no repeats. People will scour the list. Repeat gets called off. Someone gets to add a different song. Um, it is so much fun.
00:03:46
Speaker
We found a lot of new music through this. take it. It's, it's what started, of the things that started getting me into listening into a lot more and new musics. I made a personal challenge of it, um, where I tried to do all new music to me, not like all new music.
00:04:04
Speaker
all new to me music every single time. So I've just started actually working on it as soon as the last, we do this twice a year. soon as the last one is done, i start working on the new list and it gets hype and like leading up, it's just like i listen to nothing but it and on the drive and it just makes it special.
00:04:25
Speaker
Um, and then we go to a place that's like midway between everyone. This time it's on a lake. So let's see, maybe, maybe I'll go out a boat, but like, uh, Is that like an Airbnb?
00:04:42
Speaker
Yes, we get an Airbnb. We're finding, like, a new... Like, if we find a place we really like, we'll stay there um for a while. the last place had a truly obscene amount of dead animal heads, mostly deer, mounted on its walls. That's not the reason we didn't come back, because, like...
00:05:04
Speaker
We were willing to ah to put up with it, but it didn't have enough beds or whatever for us. So anyway, and then, you know, to have ah little like...
00:05:17
Speaker
um Forks and rituals, like our board games, we always have one like setup where we set up some tables. Everyone set up sets up their board game bags there. Most of us have special like board game carrying bags because we've been to nerds.
00:05:32
Speaker
And um like you take it and you'll put it up and you'll unzip it. And then when like as people arrive, they walk through when you see all the board games there to play, you know, and what new ones people have brought.
00:05:45
Speaker
And then the food we collectively plant. And it's just like like the most sugar I have in the year.
00:05:55
Speaker
you But like some people even volunteer to cook. I am not a cook. What I do all my prep. Like today i was making, um you know, some of my traditional dishes I bring as well as some stuff. We're trying a salad bar this time for one of the meals to be, you know, slightly slightly more healthier amid all the sugar we're going to consume.
00:06:18
Speaker
Last time did you bring a dip? Do I remember a dip? I feel like you told me once about a dip that you made. It's not, maybe not a dip, but kind of traditionally I bring, it's a dill pickle fake chicken salad for sandwiches. It's using sweet curls. It's really good. Yeah. It's a great thing because can prep it ahead of time and then we can munch anytime we want real food.

Marvel Champions Card Game at the Retreat

00:06:42
Speaker
Cause we kind of do a like lunch is your own time slash raising.
00:06:46
Speaker
And then we have like this giant ass snack table. It's just covered in snacks. as far Like a feast in a like fantasy tale. like like you know Just pages of George R. R. Martin describing... like Is this a Red Wall situation where most of the book is description of food?
00:07:08
Speaker
Do you know how much joy you have brought me by like bringing up Redwall randomly? I loved Redwall so much when I was a kid. Okay. That was one of the words that you couldn't say for Mole Man in Zaboo when we most recently played it. You weren't allowed say Redwall.
00:07:24
Speaker
That would have been amazing. Okay, yeah, the Redwall series by Brian Jacques. I don't know how he says it. um I think it's, yeah that shit I don't know for sure.
00:07:35
Speaker
I don't know. That's that's I feel like I heard somebody say it that way once and I just figured they were right. I don't know if that's right. Right. But that's what I've heard. Yeah.
00:07:45
Speaker
So snacks. Yes. A veritable feast of snacks that slowly depletes. over time. and um my friend this time made a ranked choice voting for sheet cakes that we will bring up combinations of cake and icing.
00:08:04
Speaker
I really hope what I want wins, obviously. we We'll find out the results when I get there. but But I'm type of person, I don't like to cook when I'm there. When I'm there, then it's time to be either chill re or empress, queen of all time and space re, depending on the board game.
00:08:22
Speaker
It's one or the other, nothing in between. like i like it. So I prep ahead of time and I bring everything I'm making once in there. I must have no responsibilities. So, um...
00:08:34
Speaker
Yeah. And then like we actually just keep track of everything like communally in a spreadsheet and split it up and what food people bring and stuff contributes. And and then it's all evenly distributed. Someone handles that organization. And it is.
00:08:49
Speaker
Amazing. We do it twice a year. Everyone should do it. so it's I'm going tomorrow. I'm so envious. I want to go. That sounds amazing. amazing it does.

Snap Gameplay Updates and Challenges

00:09:02
Speaker
And we have a little Marvel Champions Club within within the the overall board game retreat where we we all play ah the card game Marvel Champions together. and That's pretty fun. I have a pretty fun Nebula and Gamora deck and so thinks Okay.
00:09:21
Speaker
um So that was my week not in Snap. More my week ahead. Future thinking. Positively. um That was me.
00:09:33
Speaker
Thanks for asking. Great. Thanks for telling. Ben, how was your week in s Snap? And keep it snappy. My week in Snap? Well, while endeavoring to keep it snappy as I so often do. um it was pretty good.
00:09:47
Speaker
i built a deck that I liked. I've been sort of working on it, fiddling around with it. I finally decided, i suppose,
00:10:00
Speaker
You know, I have to play new Human Torch because he's the three cost move thing because I can't play Vulture because that guy dies to Killmonger. What a joke. Anywho.
00:10:12
Speaker
anywho Also, the the numbers are not good. Bring back old Vulture. Old Vulture is the business. But, you know... since Since Human Torch is here and he costs three and stuff, I'm playing him.
00:10:25
Speaker
ah The deck that I ended up with, um there were so many cool cards that were in it briefly. I really want Spider-Man to be in this deck because he's so good, but he's just the problem with Spider-Man is that he doesn't really go well with Merlin. and that's That's the main problem is that he just clashes just a little bit with Merlin.
00:10:44
Speaker
you You polymorph Spider-Man, you're probably getting something smaller. you You once and future Spider-Man, you just said goodbye to four points of power off of the board. What are we doing here? So no Spider-Man in this deck, no Doctor Strange in this deck, even though he's 2-4, which is cool.
00:11:01
Speaker
Yeah. i I tried both of those cards in here. it didn't work. But let me tell you what is in the deck. It's Aranya, Butrock the Leaper, Ghost Spider, Dagger, Kraven, Merlin, Cloak, Silk, Hydra Stomper, Red Guardian, Human Torch, and Stardust.
00:11:16
Speaker
Because you've got to have a four cost in there, I guess. and Well, there are a lot of reasons to play Stardust. Sometimes you just want to absolutely... beat the, beat the crap out of every destroy and like surfer deck you run into.
00:11:29
Speaker
Um, but anywho, you don't always beat the surfers. Sometimes they can, they can overcome their, their brood situation. Uh, but I've really been enjoying it. I really, um, it's got a lot of the same cards that I've been playing in like sort of a scream kind of silky deck, but, um,
00:11:50
Speaker
Sometimes it's fun to move your own cards primarily. And in fact, this deck has no ways to move the enemy's cards, which makes me feel a little bit vulnerable. But the deck was doing pretty well. And I think I mentioned last week or maybe the week before i had like I had a bad day where I was just not making the good choices, just throwing away eight cubes at a time. And I knocked myself out of the top 5000. So I missed out on my wonderful opportunity to buy the borders.
00:12:19
Speaker
But it's okay. I got back up into borders territory. So they were trying to sell me the borders again. Didn't buy them. That's all right. But I just, I wanted everyone to know that. it all It all worked out, and I couldn't have those precious borders if I'd wanted them.
00:12:33
Speaker
If you leave the top 5k and then make it back, they offer you Yeah, and they start offering you the borders again. yep if if you dip out, pop back in. Nice. you even get you and You even get a pop-up notification about it once you crawl back into the top 5,000. It's, ah yeah, it's not a great look, is it? um it's It's a little bit embarrassing for the game and for me as a player of it.
00:12:55
Speaker
But, anywho... You know, the deck's fun, and ah winning games is fun, so play that deck. Also, doesn't have any new cards in it. i ah I waited around for a day for Sparky to show up in my shop, dropped the 6,000 tokens.
00:13:09
Speaker
Had no particular desire to try and shoehorn him into the deck. I think it's working just fine without him. I might try Sparky in the cloak spot, maybe, for a few games, just so that I can play the new card and stuff.
00:13:21
Speaker
But I'm not exactly

Exploring Marvel Snap Nuzlocke

00:13:23
Speaker
famous as a person who's always... clamoring for the new toys. I'm like, I'm not especially bored with the ones I already have.
00:13:32
Speaker
So, uh, that, that's what I'm playing right now. It's doing well on ladder. I, uh, have not been rushing the climb. I think last season soon I got a day one infinite with not a lot of, you know, it was it wasn't a ah real intentional thing. It just sort of happened that way. I just had a couple of good sessions and got there, but, um,
00:13:54
Speaker
But what else happened during this week in Snap? Oh, I played a lot of Conquest last season. Not not a lot of Conquest. Enough. I don't know. I sort of i had a frustrating situation where I got disconnected in the middle of an Infinity Conquest and I was just like...
00:14:10
Speaker
I think I'm going to let the tickets burn, turn into some boosters. I got a whole ton of Typhoid Mary boosters, so I can i can start splitting her up. I don't think I've ever put Typhoid Mary in deck ever, maybe once for Surtr.
00:14:25
Speaker
Weekend missions, I think, a very long time ago. I think that's the last time I played Typhoid Mary. um What else? I've been streaming a bit. I'm still trying. I don't know why i have ah inflicted this goal upon myself, but I would just love to get...
00:14:40
Speaker
three back to back to back clears on nights one through three of a fresh file before the 1.0 release of Hades two happens. And then I'll have to do it again with the 1.0 release. But that's like a really weird and arbitrary goal. And like the hardest one is the first one. It's just like the, the mental stamina and like the, the good decision making you have to keep doing it. That's, that's a long time. That's a long time of video game playing to not make silly mistakes or let goofy attitudes into your heart.
00:15:08
Speaker
Um, ah But but um' I've also been experimenting with playing some other games. Very late at night with nobody watching, last night I started a tradition I'm calling Final Fantasy X Tuesday, where I play Final Fantasy X 2 on Tuesdays.
00:15:25
Speaker
ah Because portmanteaus are fun. And ah Final Fantasy X 2 is an underappreciated game. I certainly didn't appreciate it the first time it came around. And over the years, it has grown on me more and more. And it's a winner.
00:15:41
Speaker
You know what? The girls should be allowed to have fun. I'll say it. um Anywho, anywho, doesn't always have to be that heavy and tragic and stuff. Sometimes the gals are just...
00:15:53
Speaker
Having a good time. and I would also like to change my job with my outfit and my skills with my outfit. That would be a amazing. yeah Magical girl transformation sequences left and right all over the damn place. Yes, please.
00:16:07
Speaker
um But, you know, I would be interested in playing some other games. So if you have if you have thoughts about games, I don't know, some other games I've been meaning to play. Prey. heard Prey's fun, and I bought it about a year ago.
00:16:21
Speaker
thinking about playing Prey. Disco Elysium. I started playing that on my PS4 before it crapped out. I was really enjoying that. I could see that being a fun game to watch because... ah Yeah, there's a lot of ah lot to like about it. The music's good. the There's a lot of good stuff about Disco Elysium, at least in the stuff that I played.
00:16:39
Speaker
So, anywho, that's just what's going on in my my gaming life. Still not loving playing Marvel Snap on stream. It's just something I do secretly and private, but I talk about it on a podcast, and that's what we're here for. So, yeah. Secret time. that's that's been my That's been my weekend in snap and other stuff.
00:16:56
Speaker
Great. How about you, Lauren? Oh, I actually have stuff to talk about this week. a Okay. Have you two... Okay. I was an on Blue Sky and Adam Starr, who often has very good ideas and is good at mashing pop culture together. And I don't know. I admire the way his brain works.
00:17:17
Speaker
And he proposed Marvel Snap Nuzlocke. Are either of you familiar with a Nuzlocke? No. No. i I heard about it, and I'm like, I think that's the name of a Pokemon. And and i was i I learned a little bit about it. It's the roguelike ROM hack thing, right? Yeah, i'll give you I'll give you a quick rundown. So it was somebody decided to make roguelike permadeath rules for Pokemon.
00:17:45
Speaker
And it got the name Nuzlocke because they had a Nuzleaf. They were they were like doing a webcomic drawing their journey and they drew the Nuzleaf's face like Locke from Lost. So that's how this custom rule set became. That's why it's known Nuzlocke. But I mean, it's been called the Nuzlocke for, I don't know, 15 years or something like that now. Like it's been around for a long time and I've done Nuzlocke in Pokemon and they're super fun. So the the key rules are you can only catch the first Pokemon you run into it in a given location.
00:18:17
Speaker
So random, you don't know who you're going to get. You might end up with a shitty Pokemon on your team and tough luck because you don't get any more from that location. And then Pokemon are a limited resource because the other custom rule is if your Pokemon faints, it's dead. You can never use it again.
00:18:31
Speaker
you either have to release it or put it in a box or trade it to another game. You can never use it again on that run. That's more realistic. Yeah, right? ah You win if you make it to the Elite Four and beat them or whatever arbitrary goal you set.
00:18:44
Speaker
You lose if you run out of Pokemon. um And has this really funny effect of making you, like... bond with your Pokémon more. And so there's all kinds of custom rules people do to make it easier or harder, whatever. A very common rule is you have to nickname your Pokémon. And I think that's to lean into like the emotional aspect of it. like ah You get attached to these little critters that you've never used before.
00:19:07
Speaker
you know and I think like some of my favorite Pokémon are Pokémon because i was doing a Nuzlocke. I did a run in Red and Blue where Raticate was my main Pokémon. And that was like, who does that? But I bonded with that little guy.
00:19:19
Speaker
um Anyway.
00:19:24
Speaker
Adam proposes Marvel Snap Nuzlocke. I'm like, oh my gosh, this idea is amazing. I couldn't think about how to do it with acquisition. I'm sure there's more rules you could do to to kind of like emulate the random nature of which cards you get in your collection. But basically, we just went with the permadeath thing.
00:19:41
Speaker
And so we brainstormed ideas. I'm going to give Adam all the credit for the inspiration, but I did a lot of the rules writing and just kind of like bounced ideas off of him.
00:19:51
Speaker
And this is what we came up with as the core. If you lose the game, any cards that are from your deck that are left on the board are dead. You can never use them again. um I mean, for the rest of your run to infinite, that's when you win, if you if you get to infinite. Ah, okay.
00:20:08
Speaker
Retreating is not losing. That just is would be impractical, and this seems more snappy, right? That you can retreat to save your to save your cards. um And then I added, you must name your decks.
00:20:18
Speaker
you know let's Let's bond with these. Came up with a whole bunch of optional rules to make it easier and harder. But those are the ones I'm sticking with for this this first time. And it has really changed the way I play the game.
00:20:31
Speaker
um It changes which decks are good. It changes how I'm like i'm being strategic about, like oh, what deck do I want to use in my 70s? Because like I know I can climb with negative. like It's a good deck for this because either does the thing or it doesn't. like you know ah But I want to save that for the 90s. It's a deck I have a lot of reps with. It's a deck I think will be good for this mode. So I'm like, I'm not using it in the And...
00:20:52
Speaker
um and You know, some decks, like, I had a lot of successes with Nimrod, and, like, i think that that's another one, like, negative, where, like, it it pops off if it's doing well. Like, how are they going to stop you? And, I mean, they can, Stardust or whatever, but, like, Sean can't stop you.
00:21:10
Speaker
um But then the other fun thing about Nimrod is, like, it sends copies everywhere. So, like, even if you do lose, like, you're not losing your your most important cards because...
00:21:21
Speaker
You know, the cards that are that are left on your board are not the originals from your deck. um So I started with Agatha, of all things. Agatha and Redshift. i'm like this will be strong. And I ended up, like, 20 games, like, plus three cubes, right? because like, there's so many one-cube retreats. Because you're just like...
00:21:37
Speaker
Oh, I really like i would gamble this if it was just regular old snap. But if it means losing all these cards on the board, o I'm not that confident. And so I'm playing very cautiously most of the time. I mean, Ben was talking about endurance gaming and making silly decisions, and I have definitely made some silly decisions.
00:21:57
Speaker
um So, ah I've lost... I don't know if it's worth reading off all the cards I've lost, but Agatha deck, gone. ah greedy on ongoing deck, gone.
00:22:08
Speaker
i I'm not the whole deck, but like enough of the deck, I can't play it anymore. Moira deck, Moira X, that was pretty fun. Only got about eight games with it. um Nimrod nimuradd has been great. That is one deck that I will put in the in the show notes because...
00:22:24
Speaker
It was doing well for me like in general, and I got probably 25 or 30 games out of it before and lost too many pieces to keep playing it. Wow. wow And just to give you an idea of how I'm doing, I like i made it to like rank 85 having only lost twice, if we're not counting retreats as losing.
00:22:43
Speaker
So like it's very cautious, but also like there's so many fewer bots now that I'm in the 80s. I'm currently at 89. I was losing faith there for a second, but I finally found another deck that's going well for me.
00:22:55
Speaker
I played Thursday's move deck with Sparky in it and oh my gosh, it was so fun. And it lasted three games because I had Topaz blindness. And so my middle lane was really, really big.
00:23:06
Speaker
but Like I really won the middle lane. um So yeah, I killed move. i There's way too many important cards that are gone. Madam Web gone, Aranya gone, Iron Fist gone. Like I can't play move anymore.
00:23:19
Speaker
um Then ah like a Kitty Bast deck with, you know, ah Agent Venom and and Havoc. Like that's a deck I love and I've climbed to infinite with several times and it was not doing very well and it died. Are you playing through the hot location?
00:23:38
Speaker
I am... ah I was like, oh, the hot location's gonna be good for Cerebro! But I i killed Cerebro really fast. First I Cerebro. ah My Cerebro death was so sad. lost... It's just like, I really am like...
00:23:55
Speaker
the the, the games where you choose to stay, especially like your opponent snaps on five and you're like, Oh, I'm out of here. But then you're like, no, I, I have this. I'm pretty sure i have this. That showdown is so intense when it's not four cubes on the line, it's four cubes and half your deck on the line. You're like, Oh, um, so that's been really fun and rewarding. Anyway.
00:24:13
Speaker
Um, I lost important pieces of C3, but not Cerebro. And so then when the hot location rolled over, I was like, oh I'll do C5. um My opponent used double Gambit to make space on my board. And then Martyr moved.
00:24:30
Speaker
And i I lost all my good Cerebro cards because Martyr and Gambit interacting with each other. was very sad. Wow. The thing that I am having good luck with right now, like this is like comparable to my Nimrod run. I've had, you know, like 25 games with this so far.
00:24:47
Speaker
Tech slop. And I am like, have to like, you know, hat in hand, like I'm really enjoying Stardust in this deck. don't know if I would like a normally fun card, isn't she?
00:24:59
Speaker
um stopping nimrods with her stopping just there's a whole lot of sinister and brood out with viv right now um yes i am having fun with that cosmic ghost rider also having fun with even a lyeth like these big tech cards that i'm normally not a fan of really having a good time with them so it's a wiccan deck that's also running ah Negasonic, Mobius, Stardust, Cosmic Ghost Rider, and Eliath. Like a whole bunch of hate cards.
00:25:27
Speaker
um I forgot to mention, i did, in the first version of the move deck that i detailed in my Weekend Snap, I did try to jam Cosmic Ghost Rider in there because he is so much fun. I love the animation. He's just a fun card.
00:25:41
Speaker
all right. Sorry. I yield. ah but No, you're good. um Anyway. I I'm going to be doing art for it, like journaling my progress through, even though I'm already at 89, like I'm playing faster than I could possibly draw or write about my journey.
00:25:57
Speaker
um But i'm I'm like keeping a record so that I can talk about it later and I've already seen some of this art, haven't I? i think you you probably saw. I did spend way too much time drawing myself in the Pokemon art style.
00:26:10
Speaker
It was great, though.

Art and Stories from the Nuzlocke Journey

00:26:12
Speaker
Did you spend way too much time, or did you spend exactly the right amount of time, Lauren? It is really cute. um I will not be drawing at nearly that quality for journaling my my trek to infinite.
00:26:26
Speaker
um I'm still feeling like I can pull it off. i I haven't banned Arashem from this game mode, worst-case scenario, I have a pile of Garbo cards at the end, and I can just...
00:26:38
Speaker
Do you have to keep the mark of all the cards that die when you play R.H.M.? Is it possible that R.H.M. is actually going to like kill your roster if you keep playing R.H.M.? Is it going to take things from other archetypes that you'll then preclude yourself from playing? you know Currently, the rules do not... You don't lose a card if it's a copy or a token. It has to be the card from your deck.
00:27:03
Speaker
It has to be a card from your collection for it to die. so So that like that does change the calculus on like what kind of cards you want to play. it makes Arisham very strong in this mode, probably.
00:27:15
Speaker
um i will i i am My goal is to try to reach infinite without ever using Arisham, but I will pull him out if absolutely necessary. believe in you. You got this. I'm going to commit right here on the podcast, if I run out of cards before I hit infinite, I will not hit infinite this month.
00:27:32
Speaker
Ooh. i will I will honor my my um commitment to the Nuzlocke. I might still climb to 90 if I don't hit that, but I'm a few cubes away from 90, so I don't see that being a problem. I think you'll be fine. I think you'll be fine. I've got faith in you, Lauren. Oh, the card back is... Incredible. It's right. Really an inspiration.
00:27:52
Speaker
um Anyway, it's been super fun. I did kind of want to, like, test run it before. i just felt like if i post if I posted just on social media, like, hey, here's me in cute Pokemon art style, and here's Nuzlocke rules I invented for Marvel Snap, I didn't think that would do really well do very well on social media. But I'm like, what if I had, like, a story to tell with it?
00:28:12
Speaker
i think that that would do much better. um so Next season, I'll try to have, you know, I'll ah i'll see if we can get more people converted. i know There are a couple people doing this. Adam adam is doing it. And Snap Variance, our very first guest on this podcast, is also trying to hit infinite with these rules.
00:28:31
Speaker
So. thanks ah Mostly this has made me just want to play Pokemon, but I do enjoy watching the trials and trips of my friends.
00:28:45
Speaker
Yeah, that's really like i'm I'm into it. I don't know how many people who listen to us are streamers, but I think it would make for really good streaming on the way to infinite. Like you get attached to these cards and it's, it's more so that like when you, when you win by the skin of your teeth, you're like, this deck that's been doing really well for me just survived by one point.
00:29:05
Speaker
Oh, that was risky. Or you lose a whole bunch of cards at once. Like, you know me, I like small cards, but small cards decks are devastating because when you lose 10 of them are on the board.
00:29:18
Speaker
Um, anyway, it's been fun. Uh, keep an eye on my Twitter or, uh, blue sky for ah drawings and stories about it. I'm sure I'll update here too.
00:29:30
Speaker
Hopefully though, I'll, I'll be at infinite by next week. Um, okay. Let's go on to next ah last week's cards. New thoughts on Airwalker.
00:29:40
Speaker
I still haven't played with him.

Snap Gameplay with Airwalker and Morgan Le Fay

00:29:42
Speaker
did. yes. So this month, I played... Usually when the season flips, I bemoan the bonfire that is my infinite stack of infinite tickets that didn't time to play.
00:30:00
Speaker
But this month... I actually came, I'm like, I have a day or two, you know, I could play a couple and I only had one infinite ticket because I just haven't played conquest. We had high voltage. I was doing all these bounties. Infinite. So, so I was like, fuck it. What do I want to take for infinite? didn't have anything. I was like super jazzed up about at the moment. So I was looking around, grabbed a deck I had never played before.
00:30:28
Speaker
Safety Blades. um It's a Morgan Le Fay deck. ah With Airwalker. Because, you know. don't think I've seen that, but that sounds fun.
00:30:42
Speaker
Oh, you haven't. Okay. I did take some learning. I did learn through the infinite, like, through my infinite quest here, which is things like everything's good to destroy if you know because you have air walker and something destroying with or you already have morgan lafay if you know you can bring things back also just blow also don't just blow up the things that were made to be blown up blow up everything assuming you have energy to play it out again um because these are little things but okay i rode stack that i had never played and haven't had that much experience
00:31:22
Speaker
they All the way. no, no cheap wins. Nobody like accidentally like disconnected or something and gave me anything. i won four. I was in the fifth, the fifth match.
00:31:38
Speaker
Against a surfer, like a pretty ah a pretty stick pretty standard surfer, and might say. And were down to, it was, they had three ah cubes and I had two. So i would it wasn't like the very last game. I would have had to win one more.
00:31:56
Speaker
that's where the luck just way favored them against my deck with the locations and the draws. You know what i mean? That's the problem when you get down to low cubes is then you don't have the ability to retreat anymore. That's what happened and I lost and I was so close. I had the avatar picked out. It was going to be the mantis from the gold bundle had gotten and um Like an anime-ish one?
00:32:24
Speaker
uh it's the stars she's super cute you no on ah she's she's got like i do it got the the title like enchanted i'm sure and it like works really well with this avatar Anyway, I was really excited. and i'm like, oh, my one, all these times I've burned and my one, it could have been a great story.
00:32:55
Speaker
Could have had a narrative. But no, surfer, regular ass surfer. Taking down the fun deck. Anyway, oh, so let me just, let me just you in on this deck. you're blowing shit up, so death is here to be cheap.
00:33:12
Speaker
um Which sucks if early on they steal her with a mirage or something. Like, that's not a mirage. Well, sometimes a mirage because you're just that fast.
00:33:23
Speaker
But, like, ah she got stolen sometimes and I had to calculate. I'm like, okay, can I beat the death I know they got from me as well as everything else? Okay.
00:33:33
Speaker
She's so fickle to death. All right. um But your destroy cards are Venom. You have Killmonger. you have Kid Omega. And you have Carnage. You also, though, have... have found... It's so funny because, like, came out, like, bounce card, not for me.
00:33:52
Speaker
I've since discovered um through the intervention of Lauren Fursley with... ah um new mode arena. Yeah. yeah That like Joaquin Torres can be some fun.
00:34:07
Speaker
Some fun here because we have Silver Sable and Racket and Iceman and Nico. Right. And so it's like the idea is like as long as you're sure you can blow up your air walker later you already drew Morgan, then just, like, blow up everything. That carnage is gonna be, you know, it's gonna be even bigger when you, like, go back and play it again an Iceman or whatever. Um...
00:34:39
Speaker
Yeah, and that was my learning curve. is It was first, like, two set on only destroying certain things. And I'm like, wait, blow up Joaquin. Play him again. He's two more power, you know?
00:34:51
Speaker
was a fun little discovery, you know? was a hero's journey that could have been rewarded. But it was more like the end of Ted Lasso season one. It's like, we didn't get it.
00:35:02
Speaker
But next time, come back and win all that. You know, it was a positive victory. We had learned. That is the season of Ted Lasso that I've seen. yeah As, ah you know, as cards, I learned to them.
00:35:14
Speaker
They learned me. and worked out. Okay. Anyway, so that was my experience with Airwalker. Very fun with Morgan Le Fay. Like when you, like I said, you want to put them with a destroy and like, there's not a lot of forecast and street, but like,
00:35:29
Speaker
no one that's all I've seen. is Morgan Le Fay decks with Airwalker. It's the only good thing I I'm not very happy about it because I like Morgan Le Fay. I've always believed in Morgan Le Fay. I've thought she's a good card all along, and sometimes good cards need collaborators, and I'm glad that that's what Airwalker's doing for the game.
00:35:53
Speaker
And it's one that it's hard for them, even though they've seen you blow this shit up, even though it's back in your hand. It's really hard. A lot of people stayed in games. They should. It's not in your destroy pile anymore.
00:36:05
Speaker
Yeah. um um Yeah. They just don't know the output. I would propose that Morgan Le Fay is a bounce card. I hope that doesn't ruin her for you. i mean, kind of? Yeah, she's like a hybrid, right? like It's just a recursion thing. There are all kinds of recursion things you can do. feel like...
00:36:29
Speaker
putting them in your hands. difference, though, with this is that like the but ba in typical bounce, you're looking to bounce more than once.
00:36:40
Speaker
You know what i mean? And that's part of the planning you need to do. You usually have multiple bounce cards. This one is just once, so I don't have to super chest it out. you know That's fair.
00:36:50
Speaker
um Also, bounces usually involve werewolves or um other move cards that you have to be really careful with the sequencing. I don't like to bounce my werewolves. My werewolves are anti-glomping. We just, you know, we just frolic.
00:37:08
Speaker
um Cosmic Ghost Rider? i already told you I've been playing him, I mean, only only recently. This is the latest tech slop deck in my Nuzlocke run. ah he He won a match against Negative for me. He took out Iron Man.
00:37:26
Speaker
and i don I still, ah he's flexible, but I still think the stats are bad. Yeah, it's the five cost business. It does cool things. It's just like, I don't know, be a red guardian or be an Elioth. You're eliath you're you're weird in-between spot, and I don't know.
00:37:47
Speaker
The surprise of him, though, because he won't be played as much is something to be said. up I did play him early when he first came out and saw, like, oh, the benefits where sometimes you just wreck some things.
00:37:59
Speaker
But then as it went and yeah, i kind of agree. It's like it can be a good surprise, but it's kind of your one weird card the way Legion will be in a lot of decks where it's like...
00:38:11
Speaker
Sometimes it's super good. But I did find, because everyone was, a lot more people were running him against me, guess for weekend missions or just to try. I was surprised with the amount I saw him played against me.
00:38:23
Speaker
And it was like the perfect time to pull out like, uh, Sauron. Nightmare. You know what I mean? Because it's like, yeah go go ahead and and turn off my cards for me.
00:38:38
Speaker
It was good times. Okay. Okay.
00:38:41
Speaker
Also, I think ah probably going to be good in high voltage

New Snap Cards: Strategies and Evaluations

00:38:45
Speaker
in the future, no matter what's on the ban list. Oh, fair enough. well High voltage next month turns one year old. How many times have we had it? How many times a year do we get high voltage? the like I'm saying Ghost Rider is kind of important to have if it is a good high voltage card because it happens all the goddamn time.
00:39:05
Speaker
yeah it's I think it's been about once a month. um If you count the like... weekend ones that we getting. I certainly do. Yeah. ah Okay.
00:39:16
Speaker
Let's talk about this week's cards. I think we should kind of go fast through them. we'll do I guess we'll play it by ear, but fully five of the 11 cards this season came out this week.
00:39:29
Speaker
that's It's just hard to play that many. Yes. um I have actually put put all of them on the board at least once. I did not ever get to activate Awesome Andy. So i anyway, Viv Vision, 3-2, our season pass card.
00:39:46
Speaker
At the start of each turn, give all cards in your hand plus one power if you're winning here. Otherwise, move this to another location.
00:39:55
Speaker
Okay, this is the one I'll talk about. I didn't play any of the other cards, so I'll only speak to this one. I haven't really played against them either. I don't have much of interest to say. But this is the that I did play, I'm excited about the character. And I don't know if it's a blessing or a curse for this podcast that I'm no longer in tune with what...
00:40:16
Speaker
Everyone else is doing with this card. So I don't know if this is pretty common yet. um Because, ah you know, as I've mentioned previously, it's very important that we I post pictures of my snack hauls that I'm bringing.
00:40:33
Speaker
It's a board game, which these are the important things for me right now. um It's getting hype. Okay. But so won't even maybe share the deck because it's like i I haven't played enough games with it yet.
00:40:48
Speaker
But I put Viv. I was looking Viv, right? And i was thinking, well, you really want to get her down like and win. So like you want high prio cards early on I looking, I was like, well, you know what? Agent Venom, right? That's a 2-5 right there. That's good for winning early prio. It's got little cards in it. Usually a lot of little cards you can throw out early help you get prio over decks that stack late.
00:41:23
Speaker
And that's a card where you have cards with good effects, you and above. So I put her in um ah pair out with Agent Venom.
00:41:34
Speaker
I found Scroll has been a useful card to have around lately as well. um Interesting. i just Sorry, just a side note. I was looking at my deck and I'm like, Yeah. Yeah. um I just, like, there's a time, for a while, he was, like, out of the meta. You know what mean?
00:41:50
Speaker
just one of those cards that, like, is sometimes a good tech card, sometimes not so good. And lately, I've just found there's been enough um to copy with him. But, like, yeah, so I haven't played, I didn't play a whole ton of ah games with with this one yet, but I did i did win.
00:42:07
Speaker
The Proving Grants, I took it into. Yeah.
00:42:13
Speaker
ah Because, yeah, I hit Viv immediately and, like, just kept buffing my Iron Man and gore and all that stuff. was great. Yeah, I've... I... i hu I don't think she's super good, but when she gets going, she can be scary.
00:42:32
Speaker
And so that's that's where it's, like... I don't know. They changed her from end of turn to start turn at the last second, and I i just don't think that she was balanced for that right. I feel fairly confident that we'll see her get a buff, even if it's just like going to three three or 3-4. think power back for sure. Yeah.
00:42:57
Speaker
She is ah both played against me and when I'm playing with her, she's bad when she doesn't proc. When she just moves from location to location,
00:43:09
Speaker
ah Cool! like I had an opponent get her into Sanctum ah before I did, but then I just put a Scarlet Spider in there. and you know like um So I guess it could have won my opponent the location ah because of her movement, but like if if that's the part you care about, there are so many better cards than a 3-2 that you can't control.
00:43:31
Speaker
What about a Move Surfer? You know where Hydra Stompers in there? Like, getting buffed if it moves? Maybe. i'm not I'm not sure. i I haven't even um played this card. I i thought I might.
00:43:46
Speaker
ah like i don't Mostly I've been playing against it, and I think the playing against it has kind of warned me off of trying to play it myself because i'm with i don't see it working for the people who are playing it against me. Sometimes I'm like losing to a card a lot, and I'm like, ooh, I would like to try that.
00:44:04
Speaker
ah That's not been the case with Viv. um I kind of think, I understand that, like, her effect means that if they give her too much power in a buff or something, like, I could see it being, like, a drastic change.
00:44:22
Speaker
But, like... kind think she needs some more power or something because i when they whenever I saw her hit the board, I was like, have I snapped yet? I should snap. I mean, maybe some of that is because like I've probably you know i've got Batroc on the board. I've got Kraven on the board somewhere. like I see ways that I'm going to benefit from their vision and stuff. And maybe that's not the case for everybody playing other stuff.
00:44:46
Speaker
But I was just like... Vivvision never made me worried. Vivvision made me think, oh, their deck probably is not, they're probably they're probably playing something that doesn't make sense that I will probably win against.
00:45:03
Speaker
Viv with Galacta and Gwenpool and all the other hand-buffy type stuff. I've seen a decent amount of Okoye. like I ended up with 10-power Brood and 7-power Mr. Sinister. like That's cool, and that's the thing I'm scared of when I see my opponent you know rocking Viv and she gets several procs.
00:45:22
Speaker
And Gwenpool comes down, and and they played America's Office. If it's just Viv, whatever. Yeah. okay I think you really need to you need to miss pretty far with it's it's weird for me to be like this season pass card isn't good enough yeah and like I'm always asking for season pass cards to be like less overtuned and this one is just I I think it's a kind of a stinker I think yeah i think they changed it at the last minute
00:45:53
Speaker
i I think Scott Denham pointed that out, that like ah the this was like end of turn for like so long. That's clearly what they were you know testing with and what they balanced everything else around. and they I think they they ruined it at the 11th hour, and it's a stinky poo-poo season pass card. That's what the SP stands for this time, stinky poo-poo.
00:46:18
Speaker
Oh, no! When's that going to be a title on Snap? Oh, never, please. it's It's all right for me to say on a podcast once or twice, but like we don't need it immortalized in text in the game.
00:46:32
Speaker
she's no No more diaper titles. She's super duper narrow, and I yeah i feel like confident she's going to get a buff. I put her 6 out of 11 in my final Twitter rankings, and that was always like, oh, really? Am I am i just being like...
00:46:45
Speaker
mean to the season pass card. It always feels hard weird being so hard on the season pass card, but honestly, i think she's even worse than that. I'm surprised that a card that moves multiple times can be this uninspiring. Because cards that move themselves are like, that's its own reward. Moving around is very good.
00:47:02
Speaker
um So something's wrong here. That's what I think. She doesn't have enough power. Sparky, the super premium season pass card, Series 5. ah Well, also available in Series 5 packs. 2-1.
00:47:16
Speaker
Activate, give your card that last moved, plus 3 power, and move it back to its previous location.
00:47:23
Speaker
Have you seen it at all? Yes. Yeah. I've seen it. I even got this one. I dropped tokens on it. I had to wait for it to show up in the shop because I wasn't going to risk getting bad cards or anything. So I just decided I would pay 6,000 tokens for it. And I think it's really great that you can do that now with the super season pass thing, like the, the super premium season pass, the SPSP.
00:47:49
Speaker
Um, Yeah, I think it's great that I can have that card, and I haven't played it yet, but I will play it because it seems cool and fun. I thought about trying to shoehorn it into the deck that I described in my weekend snap.
00:48:02
Speaker
I have not done that yet, but I'll probably test it there, see how it feels. I don't know. Probably doesn't go super great with Silk and Badrock, but maybe it does. i don't know. We'll see.
00:48:14
Speaker
um This card's nuts. Yeah. yeah I think we all rated it pretty high. I put it as one out number one out of 11, and I'm feeling pretty good about that, even though I know half the cards we haven't seen yet.
00:48:28
Speaker
It's just, it's controlled. It's plus three. If you send it back to the Madam Weblane, you get to move that card again. Like, it's just, it's really... and It's a very, very good card if you ever play move or anything. like Semi-move. Move adjacent.
00:48:45
Speaker
so It's a card that you want. I will say as far as the card acquisition goes, i agree it's a great change. But I think they need to do something for people who...
00:48:57
Speaker
would buy the Super Premium Season Pass, but got Sparky through with tokens. like If you get Sparky ahead of time with tokens, it makes the value of the premium season but ah Super Premium Season Pass go from like nine times to like less than one.
00:49:12
Speaker
like It's really, really bad to buy if you already have Sparky. Um, and they, there's nothing in the game to warn you about it. There's nothing in the game. That's like, Hey, before you open this pack, we do have it for sale.
00:49:24
Speaker
Um, and and I saw people at like, I made that warning on Twitter. i was like, Hey, before you're tearing into your series five packs, like heads up that if you are going to buy the super premium season pass, you should do that first.
00:49:37
Speaker
And I've had people replying like, I'm so mad that I did that. I didn't read this in time. And I made them like, I opened a pack and I got sparky. And now like, You know, yeah I hadn't even considered that because, as I said, I was like, I was going to wait and buy it with the tokens. But that has got to be really frustrating for those people.
00:49:56
Speaker
Yeah. If you're like if you're ah okay or planning to spend the ten dollars anyway. All right. There must be people who like decided partway through like last season that like.
00:50:07
Speaker
oh, I do want Silver Surfer First Steps or something. Or, like, same thing with Fantastikard. Like, oh, wow. Yeah. I bought it mid-season, yeah. That never occurred to me because it was just, like, outside of how I experienced the game.
00:50:22
Speaker
I'm not sure what the fix is, but I think they should do something about it. It's probably not, like, if you own Sparky and you buy the Super Premium Season Pass, you get 5,000 tokens. That's probably, like, not incentive enough for people to just buy it up front, but...
00:50:37
Speaker
Anyway, it's not it's not my job to fix that. It's a problem that I see and I think needs to be addressed. and And I will make my voice heard in creator spaces. Anyway, Moira X, our other Series 5 card. one two when this is destroyed, get a copy of your opening hand.
00:50:55
Speaker
We all picked her as our card we were most excited about. i just don't have any urgent plans for her, so I'm going to wait and get her out of a cheap pack or something, you know. i don't think she's a 6,000 tokens card for me personally, but I'm very excited to see her around and see what other people do with her. Haven't run into one in the wild yet.
00:51:14
Speaker
The patience is admirable. was planning on, like, opening one Series 5 and hoping I would get either Moira or Sparky. But then ah once again, you know, snack prep.
00:51:31
Speaker
Sorry, haven't yet, but that's my plan. I'm going to open and hope, you know, it's weird now when I do a snap pack. It used to be I'm like, oh, I'm opening the new card because I'm collection complete. And now it's like we rule the dice.
00:51:44
Speaker
Sometimes it's a cosmic ghostwriter. Yeah, I don't. I mean, they're they're your tokens. If I were in that situation, i would probably not be opening snap packs if it were If I were like down that low, I don't Rhi and I are both more impulsive than you. In fact, I would say 99% of the players of this game are more impulsive than you.
00:52:06
Speaker
You can't save late night Rhi from her. I spent 9,000 tokens today, but I got exactly what I wanted.
00:52:14
Speaker
Um, I didn't talk about this with Viv or Sparky, but every card I've played so far this season has awesome animations. Moira came to mind when you're dragging her out of your hand, the three cards that she can clone, like, spin around her.
00:52:26
Speaker
um Although they did goof, your opponent can tap on Moira and see who the three cards starting in your deck card are starting in your hand are.
00:52:40
Speaker
ah They're going to fix that, I'm sure, because that's not supposed to happen. Also, vision is revealing to the like the deck trackers. It's revealing what's in your hand. What?
00:52:53
Speaker
yeah If you see Viv buff your opponent's hand, then that your deck tracker knows what's in your opponent's hand. Oh my gosh, good thing I'm not playing that card. wow i imagine all of those things will be fixed. but you know ah Sparky's animation, incredible. When you play him to the board, he catches a frisbee.
00:53:09
Speaker
and then When you activate him, he like plays fetch. and then When he brings the card back to its location, he like shakes his head. It's it's really cute. it looks it's like I don't know how they managed to make a rectangle look so much like a dog, but they did.
00:53:21
Speaker
um Can't pet him, though. No, you're right. um Awesome, mandy Andy. Activate. Give one of your cards at each other location plus two power.
00:53:34
Speaker
I got him. Played him once and retreated before I could activate him. Aww. I want to, like, do a Ravonna thing with... I have this dream that one Ravonna will break her shackles that Mr. Negative has placed around her and become her own woman once again.
00:53:55
Speaker
know, maybe Asimandi's part of that. He's activate, though. It's really unattractive. Activate is the least attractive a card can be to me. Like... things that like mildly made me turn around on some of these cards like awesome andy and omega sentinel uh there's a lot of cards this season that are like this they have they have activates but then they have low power so they're great targets you hit them with i mean no you hit them with polymorph or cersei you know oh yeah yeah they're great targets for that
00:54:30
Speaker
I gotta to do more Cersei. I keep cutting her from things, and I'm like, why? She's the most fun. In my experience, Cersei causes a lot of problems. She does lose you sometimes.
00:54:42
Speaker
yeah was like I was playing her in a high voltage, and I had to Cutter and they just things got a lot more consistent and the games that I seemed like I should be winning I actually won whereas when I was doing Cersei stuff it would be like oh I'm way ahead I'm gonna win this game and then Deathlock Every two cost, do you evolve it.
00:55:03
Speaker
It just turns into Deathlock every time. Same thing with Merlin. I've learned that rule. Like, always always do the polymorph of the two cost first. ah Order things correctly because it's going to be Deathlock. And Deathlock's great.
00:55:15
Speaker
Three, five. Very cool. But just make sure there's nothing there when, yeah. And Cersei makes sure there's always something there. And it's messy. I don't know. she She doesn't work for non-believers. I guess. Yeah. I guess.
00:55:27
Speaker
The vault is mine. like Ben's more of a scientist, less of a magician. Omega Sentinel. This card grew on me a little bit since we talked about her. Only a little bit. four three Activate Afflict the Highest Power Enemy card with negative 7 power.
00:55:46
Speaker
You know where she goes? Seems like real good card to me. and said so last week. Really? Of course she's in C3. Are you serious or sarcastic? are Wait, are we talking about Omega Sentinel, right?
00:55:58
Speaker
She won me a game because she targeted... Yeah, she won me a game because she was three power in one lane and negative seven power in a different lane. Her animation is also awesome. She just blasts the hell out of this out of the card that she afflicts.
00:56:13
Speaker
Nice. Yeah, seems like a good card. I think she's going to be really good with Jocasta. Yeah. I picked her up today for 3,000 tokens. That was the other. i said I spent 9,000 a day and that was it. I got Sparky and Omega Sentinel skipping everything else.
00:56:29
Speaker
I can't remember who to who suggested it. It might have been Ironcloak because they also love Valkyrie. But I think Valkyrie is really... Maybe it was you on the podcast? know. Somebody said something about Valkyrie. I'm like, that's cool. I wouldn't have said something about Valkyrie. So you make their highest power card a three and then Omega Sentinel can hit something else.
00:56:49
Speaker
Okay. That's very crafty. That's a clever move. I wish I'd thought of it, but I did not. She's a five-cost card. Is she a tech card?
00:57:02
Speaker
I don't know if tech's the right word for her, but she's hard to justify sometimes as much as I love her. um Next week's card, Vibe Check, Bastion, 4-3. Still seems a real good card. Sorry.
00:57:17
Speaker
jump in the gun a little bit. On reveal, add copies of your other cards here to your hand. Set their costs to two and their power to three.
00:57:28
Speaker
i still think it's Bananagram's going to be nuts with Victoria Hand.
00:57:34
Speaker
Yeah, okay. Yeah, in limited uses like that, I think overall though, once again, you're going to be copying small cards and it's just like... Yeah, I don't think it's like free wins. Yeah.
00:57:47
Speaker
I think it's like the Morgan Le Fay situation where you kind of don't care what it is You just want, give me generated two threes that will count for Victoria Hand and stuff and possibly be also Victoria Hand.
00:58:01
Speaker
think you're right, but that's Victoria, right? It's Victoria Hand that it's good with. It won't be. Kick my ass with all the time. i think I think he works with Cerebro. There's probably other things too. I think Quinjet is a really, really good synergy for him because then he's making one threes.
00:58:19
Speaker
Make a fresh Quinjet. Fair enough. yeah all right Maybe I'm i'm under discounted. But you're right. It's all about their genus. I was thinking about what cards specifically you're copying and you're making the point that it's like, that doesn't matter. And it's like, I'll get you.
00:58:39
Speaker
I've seen people try to propose cute things with him, like negative or like trying to get him to hit an Iron Man. and I'm like, it's just he's already slow, and that's way too slow. He'll do it sometimes. Maybe it'll be like a good clip or like a cool one-in-100 game, but it's not that can't be your plan.
00:58:56
Speaker
um I realized that I only talked about Moira X's animation and not the card. I only got to play about five or six games with her before I lost. ah So...
00:59:09
Speaker
I can't use her. She's dead to me. Until, you know, I guess I could go into Conquest or something, but she's dead to me in Nuzlocke. But I was having a lot of fun with her.
00:59:19
Speaker
ah I think that she's super cool in a Destroy um Victoria Hand comp like hybrid package. And that's that's the only thing I've seen people doing with her. But you know a Destroy package and a Victoria Hand package both like the hood. so And you know Misery. like There's things you can do that that's a real hybridization that works.
00:59:41
Speaker
Could she be cute with Dokken? We hope that Dokken's in your starting hand. Get get a second Dokken. I don't know. Ever since we did that secret homework so long ago with Dokken, I'm rooting for him. you know I'm always like, is this a Dokken card?
00:59:57
Speaker
There already is a new docking cart. It's Bullseye. yeah and for of days we we yeah' I'm with Reed. We don't speak of... Yeah. ah The dark one. What did I beat one on recently? On power.
01:00:15
Speaker
Because you me, like, most of the time, like, ah, it's probably got it, but sometimes I'm still like, can I do it? It's like when you're gonna take on a negative deck, you know? Like, that hits it, you're like, here we go, here we go!
01:00:27
Speaker
And then I did it with bullseye, and I beat them on powers. Like, yeah! Fuck you! You didn't it was with Morgan LeFayne. That's what it was. It was in me it was in the infant, and it was like, boom!
01:00:37
Speaker
Ah! Got you! Ah! You got your hair! Yeah. Anyway. anyway okay Yeah, beating beating bullseye on power is that's not an an easy thing to do. And it never feels like something you can calculate. You just like got to vibe it.

Review of K-pop Demon Hunters

01:00:54
Speaker
I recently learned about vibe coding, i'm coding which is is not real coding, it sounds like. No. I've learned of what it is.
01:01:07
Speaker
And I'm like, but that's the way how I play Marvel's math. It's all vibe math. I'm like, I know, feels like a win.
01:01:20
Speaker
On to our side quest. First up and only this week, secret homework. The secret homework was assigned by re Okay. It was kind of an on-the-fly homework. I was really not feeling well.
01:01:36
Speaker
But I did submit. It been extra credit for a long time. And I was like, I will do it. i will watch. I will yield ah into the global phenomenon K-pop demon hunters. You did it?
01:01:47
Speaker
Which I did watch. Yes. Of course I did. I always do secret homework. I watched Sunday, I think, but I like fully sat down and like watched it.
01:01:59
Speaker
and um... the The second assignment part, it was kind of rare. I just kind of I don't put a lot of thought as we the people, but let's talk about ah K-pop demon hunters. so um So I will start, and if you I think we can just kind of group it if you feel like, you know, you need we can We can discuss together. um Okay.
01:02:27
Speaker
So, yes, this is my first watch through. and I want to say that I think can see why it is so popular. I did enjoy it. I did very much enjoy it And one is like all the dressing on it is good, right? The animation is fun.
01:02:45
Speaker
What the fights and stuff brought to to mind for me was, have you guys seen Ruby at all? RWBY? haven't. I have not. Okay. It's actually very worthwhile. I actually would recommend it. I've been wondering how to pronounce it this whole time. So thank thank you for clearing that. I was like, you just say the acronym every time?
01:03:09
Speaker
ah but That sort of thing scares me off of a show. You say Ruby, but big if you don't know already, because you' it's not written for you that's why I clarified RWBYB. You would say Ruby.
01:03:20
Speaker
um I got into it through a friend. I try to and keep up a gist of... But, like, when I first got in, before I got hooked into the whole the whole show and the characters and everything, what pulled me in is that the fight animation. Okay, so there's some people who love fights that are just, like, brutal like, look at the blood and guts fly.
01:03:42
Speaker
Like, the old video game, you know, like, the blood filter. Like, I want to see blood spatter everywhere and stuff. And it's like... You know, power to you if that's how you bent your rage. Like, always better take it pixels and people.
01:03:55
Speaker
So, like, but, like, the kind of fighting really enjoy is, like, fucking choreography, you know? Give me an amazing sword fight. Give me some really cool, like, you know, I love, like, the old Chinese fantasies where people are just flying, fighting, and, um, Ruby has really cool fighting, like, animations. And I won't say it's, like,
01:04:18
Speaker
You know, exactly like K-pop Demon Hunters, but the idea of it's just really fun to watch the fights and the animation happening. So that's all really enjoyable about it.
01:04:30
Speaker
And then it's like the theme they picked. such a universally human theme, right? like That like, is about like being told to be ashamed of who you are and needing to hide it and needing to change some kind of intrinsic part of yourself.
01:04:51
Speaker
And it's so easy. And then they took that universal human theme that like most people who are not devoid of all feeling um will relate to or have no experience in life or whatever.
01:05:07
Speaker
And they put it with music that is very evocative. And it made it so easy a thing to like put your own trauma into, to feel so much because you're listening to music, your own experiences, your own struggles.
01:05:28
Speaker
in it in a truck because like right like the it's it's so fun but it's like you know it's a plot it's it's like characters they're fun they do stuff but they took all the fun dressing that everyone loves the cool fights the fun animation all of that and underneath it they put this like kind of like blank slate core that you could put your own trauma into combined with the most like evocative, emotional art of music.
01:05:59
Speaker
And, you know, so I see why has struck at the very heart of the masses, you know? I'm sorry, I've stopped looking for a long time.
01:06:12
Speaker
Discussion. which which Which song is your favorite? Oh, which song? Okay. So I almost, I did end taking it off because I finalized my playlist before I watched K-pop Demon Hunters. I probably would have made it on.
01:06:30
Speaker
almost put Soda Pop on my, did have a very long addiction. Once I've seen Golden Hits, obviously, even harder.
01:06:42
Speaker
Takedown makes more sense about why we want to murder people and they don't deserve to murder. I don't love that one. What I also love, I have like a small, I have like kind of soft spot for like kind of dark romance songs. So like Your Idol also was one of the bangers for me. yeah What about How It's Done is my favorite.
01:07:09
Speaker
What? How It's Done is my favorite, but I do love it. That's good. Yeah. yeah Did you say same one? Oh, the opening one. Yeah, yeah. and but oh Well, what's your favorite? i was clarifying. i think I think for me, it's sort of a three-way tie. Golden Soda Pop and Your Idol.
01:07:27
Speaker
those Those are the three that I think are the... stick the the Yeah, i man. also I just... This movie had to fit into a goddess triad from Zelda. Those would be the three. Those friggin' Saja boys.
01:07:43
Speaker
i the On my second watch, I made an effort to learn their names. There's Romance Saja, Mystery Saja, there's Genu, there's Baby Saja. I feel like i'm missing one. You are missing one. He's the sporty one who gives them corncob eyes. That was Oh, Abby Saja!
01:08:01
Speaker
Yes, that's right. Okay. Also, they've got the right number of boys. That's my big criticism of ah K-pop phenomenon and BTS. Too many boys.
01:08:12
Speaker
There's a hard hard cap at five in my book. agree. I like that. That's why I have always favored Big Bang. Although one of one of those boys turned out to be Trouble.
01:08:23
Speaker
So they only need four boys. If they ever put out another record. I actually had very limited experience with K-pop going into this movie. Like, it's not like I've never heard it, but like very limited.
01:08:36
Speaker
And so I was, I was really surprised how much variety there was, right? Like I'm just the three you mentioned soda pop, your idol and golden are all really different songs.
01:08:50
Speaker
um Yeah. So I think that's super fun that, that those can all be popular, even though they're wildly different. Yeah. I like i character the character, boy who had no like no eyes. Mystery. Yeah. Yep. Crack me up.
01:09:03
Speaker
yeah yeah yeah he's great like me in they They do a really good job of giving them, like, personality is not the right word, but, like, making them distinct despite, like, each Saja boy gets, like, one line in the movie. Well, each one not named Genu gets, like, one line the One them Kimbooster.
01:09:23
Speaker
Yeah. Like, that's the one that raps! Yeah, exactly. Um...
01:09:31
Speaker
I don't know. I going to say, oh, got to show it to my parents. And I mean, I wouldn't have proactively shown it to them. I would have had my heart broken when they didn't like it. But I showed it to my nieces when all the family was together this weekend. And so my parents sat through it. And my nieces loved it. They're like two and eight.
01:09:46
Speaker
um The two-year-old had to be told constantly why they were fighting the demons. It's like, why are they fighting the demons? Because the demons are trying to eat the people. Why are they going the people? That was still... These are good questions. Yeah.
01:09:59
Speaker
I know. It's like... encourage that Yeah, right. Why must we fight? Very cute and fun. Okay.

Educational Music Videos: 'We the People'

01:10:12
Speaker
Ben and I watched We the People. Well, I don't know. that I was assigned to watch We the People ah because I had already seen K-pop Demon Hunters. kind of a schoolhouse rock collection of music videos.
01:10:25
Speaker
Educational fun stuff. keep It's really fun. Even if you're not into the educational stuff, like each song is a bop and the animation is all completely different style.
01:10:37
Speaker
I loved it. The animation was gorgeous. um I, I watched the second half of it today and kiddo was on the couch doing, doing her own thing. But, uh,
01:10:50
Speaker
But like the the song with Daveed Diggs came on and she was like, what is this? was like, well, that's Daveed Diggs. And she's like, yeah, I knew that. yeah um yeah i don't know i don't know what else to say about it except like, yeah, it's quite easy to get through. And I think that it's something that would be good to show kids.
01:11:09
Speaker
And yeah, the music and animation were both awesome. Thank you for the recommendation. I would have never watched it without it being a mark. I, uh, I meant to watch it when it came out and I just didn't.
01:11:23
Speaker
And you know, you know how Netflix does, they hide things after, after they're done trying to push them. They're like, nobody wants to watch that now. Who, who likes things from five years ago? And I love things from five years ago that they're usually cheaper than things from today and probably just as good.
01:11:40
Speaker
um so any who the first one active citizenship, that one's a bop. Um, I also liked the animation in that one, possibly the most. Also, it reminded me of the animation from, uh, scavengers rain, which is also on Netflix, a great sci-fi series that you really should watch. It's phenomenal.
01:12:02
Speaker
Um, so watch, watch scavengers rain also active citizenship. Good, good, good song. Um, let's see what and bill of rights performed by Adam Lambert.
01:12:14
Speaker
Another good one. ah I understand that it's a stylistic choice that Adam Lambert needs to breathe loudly into the microphone. And that's, that's always been his thing. And I, it's fine. It's fine. That's all I'll say about it. Um, we've got one about taxes.
01:12:33
Speaker
uh, I, I liked that one. i the it was lyrically fun. a lot of these I feel are explaining things that like probably make more sense if they already make sense to you and you already understand what they're trying to impart, you know, like, uh, there, there were some parts of the bill of rights song where I'm like that you're no new information is being conveyed unless you already know it. Uh, and then it's not new.
01:13:01
Speaker
Uh, There was the song with Lin-Manuel Miranda and Daveed Diggs and Brittany Howard, the three branches of government. And I liked that one. i yeah it from the From the Frozen and I think also Coco Songwriters on that one.
01:13:17
Speaker
And the animation is fun. ah i ah A lot of these songs are kind of depressing ah because like things don't work because like the three branches of government aren't functioning correctly.
01:13:32
Speaker
The legislative branch the yeah has like abdicated its power and stuff. I did have that experience where i was like... some the highest court in the land is a kind of a shit show.
01:13:45
Speaker
um it's, uh, yeah. Then there's a beautiful Brandy Carlisle song. I, I recognized her voice right away and I was like, ah, Brandy.
01:13:55
Speaker
And, uh, about the First Amendment. That one's a, that one I felt actually conveyed the information that it was intending to convey for sure. Um, you we is the about um so like the, I, cause I feel like every like generation of kids needs to have some like cartoon song that's about like the oppressive dystopia where there's like no music is allowed and no color. And then there's like the rebel, like, No, I will play music. Oh, for sure.
01:14:28
Speaker
It's been time and time again, and I saw this, I'm like, yay! One for the new generation.
01:14:39
Speaker
Let's see. had, yeah, the Federal vs. State Power one. I actually really liked that one. I thought it was like very musically fun and enjoyable, and also kind of a bummer if you to try to look at o current situation. Um,

Reflecting on Schoolhouse Rock's Legacy

01:14:59
Speaker
yeah. Immigration, another one that was beautiful and celebrates, uh, the, the rich tapestry of America, our wonderful melting pot.
01:15:09
Speaker
Um, just another one that's kind of a bummer through the modern lens. Uh, great song about the courts. Uh, did not, um,
01:15:23
Speaker
there There was a lot of information conveyed on screen if you were reading it. like this This would not like necessarily, i don't know. maybe maybe Maybe it would help a kid understand some things, maybe.
01:15:33
Speaker
I don't know. I liked all of them. Even the ones that I have little complaints about, I'm like, this is all great fun. And like I just like it when people are making things. And it's clear that a lot of hands worked on all these different things.
01:15:48
Speaker
videos and like the even the ones that where my animation like wasn't the favorite i was still like glad to have seen it and like glad that it was like i don't know i kind of wish netflix had pushed this a little harder on me and that i'd i'd seen it earlier i' like i don't know i could have been i could have been telling people to watch this all along um I don't know. Let's see. the We the People, that one.
01:16:14
Speaker
but Oh, doubt that's the Janelle Monae one, and it absolutely slaps. Yeah. ah ah Didn't convey a whole ton of information, but... It was just a really cool song. well I loved it. I loved it, nevertheless.
01:16:29
Speaker
And then the last one is a poem about how we're all going to emerge from COVID stronger and better and ah together and stuff.
01:16:39
Speaker
And... It's a bummer. I've rewatched it, actually, for this. I'm like, oh, yeah, I forgot the last one was...
01:16:51
Speaker
about COVID. What a weird. So yeah, I found it on the whole kind of bittersweet, but that's just what you get for engaging with the the world.
01:17:03
Speaker
um You know, living and living in the one that we've got. And ah yeah, i I thought it was all It was great. Thanks for making me watch it.
01:17:14
Speaker
i I guess. ya I thought guys are both like cool musical stuff and they're all bo so like, yeah, um it was a little bit. even even the Even the least boppy ones were still pretty boppy.
01:17:27
Speaker
Yeah, right. And I think I wanted to point out, okay, just like my view, am no, I neither have children spend much time around them, to be honest. But like, I feel like it's kind of the inverse. You're like, well, you won't get something out of it if you didn't already know. And surely as adults who are, you know, educated and we get stuff. just think that like Schoolhouse Rock doesn't.
01:17:51
Speaker
Like, yeah yeah like there are examples of things where I'm like, oh, a child would understand the concepts after they heard this song, you know? OK, I see what you're saying, but I think in some for me it was reverse. Like when I first heard Schoolhouse Rock, because it was school, Schoolhouse Rock was made like before, know, was like old, I think.
01:18:09
Speaker
already when we were kids. So like, but when I saw I was too young to have like gone and like learned about government and was more about like, it got in my head as like a first time you saw it. So when it came back late You know what I mean?
01:18:25
Speaker
And then it's like, oh, it's the bill, like in Schoolhouse Rock. And then you learn the details. You know what I mean? So I think even if it's something where it's like, yeah, it doesn't details. It's just that first it's that fun thing that catches. It's like kid shows, you know, like they like fun songs. They like fun animation. It's just kind of introducing ideas. So when it comes back later, it's more familiar. There's so many things I think that people are like, oh, that's just how like like it's just like that's just natural. Like everybody. like them it's like, how much of it is just like kids being ingrained in things from like very young age, just seeing it over and over again. It's familiar.
01:19:01
Speaker
And even if they didn't understand at the time, by the time they can understand it, they've just like seen it so many times. And it's like, that's the path. That's something that's, that's, that's good and or bad and depending on various things.
01:19:14
Speaker
Anyway, I just thought when you said that, I'm like, did chew on it a bit, but it's like, there's something about just introducing concepts, like all those, especially with those, um, it was giving those important court dates, right? Like a big Supreme court decisions.
01:19:31
Speaker
And it's like, I didn't have anything that really introduced me at all to like big Supreme court cases, decisions until like, I was fucking even out of college. I feel like, you know what I mean? Until I was just like on my own learning about things anyway.
01:19:47
Speaker
So that was cool.

Symbiote Spider-Man Deck Challenge

01:19:49
Speaker
Um, right. Well, if we're all spoken, guess wrapping up the conversation, ah ben is assigning you next week's homework. Are you all ready for? Ready. Oh, okay. You think you're ready now. Oh, maybe. um I only think.
01:20:05
Speaker
So did you all know that we've now had a whole year of the wonderful activate keyword? and Oh, really? ah Well, i that's that's how I happen to know that next month marks a year of high voltage, because I was going back through the announcements on the Marvel Snap the official website.
01:20:23
Speaker
And I was like, what what happened a year ago? What what what was a year ago? And Symbiote Spider-Man was our season pass card a year ago. And ah since Activate is now front and center in the Robots Means Activate season,
01:20:40
Speaker
I thought it would be fitting if we looked back at the history of Activate and we all had to build an exciting deck with Symbiote Spider-Man. A card that I definitely built with that first month. I made ah i made a fun surfer deck with Symbiote Spider-Man.
01:20:58
Speaker
And I was like, I don't think I've played him since then. Because I'm not you know i'm not into like the Galactus things. Nimrod. He's good at Nimrod. was going to say, you're cool.
01:21:10
Speaker
You didn't even know you're talking to a woman who didn't even mention all the Nomura she played last week. I'm going to do Symbiote Spider-Man. Just build a new thing with Symbiote Spider-Man. So, like, different from what you're already doing. So I guess I'm going to try not to do a surfer thing but with Symbiote Spider-Man. Or, you know what?
01:21:33
Speaker
I don't know. If you get really desperate, you can do a Nimrod thing or whatever. That's cute. I won't do it. Alright, I'll try and do something different. But yeah, build something with Symbiote Spider-Man.
01:21:45
Speaker
Because I think the

Gathering for Magic and Retro Gaming

01:21:46
Speaker
deck building ones are fun. Okay. Well, with that, if you liked what you heard, interact. You know how to do that. You hear it all the time on your YouTubes and such.
01:21:58
Speaker
Um... Come hang out with us in the speakeasy. It's our little corner of discord. Uh, the instructions are in the show notes or video description. We are probably part of the snap judgments network where you can listen to other great shows like snap judgments with pulse glazer and Roy, our grand pod, the, uh, you know, the, uh, titular pod of the snap judgments network.
01:22:19
Speaker
Uh, it's great. Anyway, tune in next week. Find out what what we managed to do with Symbiote Spider-Man. Same snap time, same snap channel.

Every time you say you like what you heard, it just makes me think of Mean Girls. And when you say you heard, I'm like, forget what you heard.
01:22:45
Speaker
like James Bond III, sh-sh-shaken, not stirred. because Kevin G is rapping the talent show I don't remember that and I've seen it several times I believe you that's how i live my life believing people about the things they tell me because I don't know anything
01:23:08
Speaker
I'm Kevin Nippur. is silent when I slip through your door and make love to your woman on the bathroom floor or something like that. Nice. I think maybe I'm complaining some lyrics.
01:23:22
Speaker
I don't know. Rhi, did you get Magic Magic together, or is there something else you're especially excited Oh, I forgot that I'm, like... Well, I was thinking forgot to mention, because I didn't, like, actually have time to think through what I was going to say.
01:23:38
Speaker
ah Like, we also, like, almost always someone brings a projector, and we, like, hook up old game consoles. Not old. Usually it's, like, someone brings, like, a retro console, like a Raspberry Pi deal or whatever, and then, like...
01:23:51
Speaker
um or you know in movies it's a good time you know when you need a break from all the gaming you know do you see some video gaming or some movie watching or um and yeah i was trying to pull together magic magic and i think it will still happen i think we'll have enough people um so yeah But I don't have, I am sad because I still, we never found a replacement for Lovers in a Dangerous Space Time, which I very much enjoyed playing,

Couch Co-op Gaming Joy

01:24:20
Speaker
but we played to death, I think. Played the fuck out of it, yeah.
01:24:25
Speaker
and I have that problem too sometimes. It's like, I love a good couch co-op game and I would love to have, you know, ah ones that I share with my brother, ones I share with my kid, ones I share with my wife.
01:24:37
Speaker
And ah yeah, they're hard to find sometimes. You know what we sometimes couch co-op in, in this household is a teenage mutant Ninja Turtles, splintered fate.
01:24:53
Speaker
It's, um, It's very, very Hades inspired. And it's like, what if there was a pretty okay co-op Hades with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles stuff?
01:25:06
Speaker
And, uh, I'm, I'm like, not, we're not culturally, well, we're slowly becoming culturally a Turtles family. It turns out, you know, there's, there was that good movie, you know, you know, the one, um,
01:25:19
Speaker
And, yeah. Mutant Mayhem. Yes, Mutant Mayhem. And I think on Netflix games, there's another good Turtles game. i think I think I might check it out.
01:25:33
Speaker
Is there, like, a Diablo for, like, four people? Like, that would be the great, like... Diablo is four-player, isn't it? Like, on one, on Couch Co-op? I think you can Couch Co-op a split screen.
01:25:46
Speaker
think Diablo 3 is. I've only played it with two, but I think it can go up to four. You'd have to double check. On one console? but The problem with most games is that... Okay. Maybe I need to be hitting up and seeing if someone can bring that.
01:26:03
Speaker
That's great. I just want to slatter some endless waves Monsters that are safe to kill because they have no feelings? I hope they have no feelings.
01:26:14
Speaker
I'm going have to think about this one. Oh my gosh. Can I confess something that has been like bothering me? I like... Okay. This was even weeks ago. I don't know why Did you say that someone click the hand? I didn't. think I meant to mute and I raised my hand. Continue. Okay.
01:26:36
Speaker
No. Okay. There's a character called Aaronville and like, there's this whole thing where it is like, it's like this storyline about accepting death. It's both like dark and positive at the same time. And, but anyway, his mom is, has already died, but she's been uploaded into a robot.
01:26:54
Speaker
And the robot she runs around and I got his amount. it's it's It's not her. But, okay, I was on the mount and I was like, hey, look, Erinville, I'm riding your mom!
01:27:06
Speaker
Because I thought it was hilarious, it didn't hit me until like a full five minutes later, the actual the additional connotations. Because I do this a lot. I'm not like innocent person. I don't know why it doesn't come to me but I was raised very sheltered. So like sometimes the realization hits way later.
01:27:22
Speaker
And this is like a fictional character and i shouldn't issue i shouldn't feel so bad it's not necessarily i feel bad but for some reason like my my foot in the mouthness that i've done here by being like vastly more insulting than i actually meant to be adding the sexual component to like the insult about his mother like it has just somehow tied into like all the many times i have like ah horrible foot mouthed and like tied into that anxiety.
01:27:51
Speaker
And I hope I'm talking about now. We'll finally release it from my brain. I can forget. This happened a while ago. She really shouldn't still be hanging up in my brain. As often as it is. Yeah. The brains are funny, huh?
01:28:02
Speaker
They are.
01:28:05
Speaker
There's so little I can remember about my past, but I can remember plenty of footmouths. Yep, yep. All of them, all the way back. This should be like a hobbit clan.
01:28:17
Speaker
Probably is.
