Speaker: And it's on. Go for it. Good morning, good afternoon, and good evening, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, and everybody up, down, all around, inside and outside the gender binary. My name is Danny Guarantee, and I am joined, as always, by the indubitable Adam Dadum.
Speaker: Now, you may... He's not here. So, Adam, if you want me to run this episode and take over roleplay... role I'm here. If you want me to... Oh, you weren't supposed to be back that fast. I was about to... I only needed something like two... It was like two seconds down the stairs. I just had to go grab something real fast.
Speaker: were talking about? Nothing. um Anyway, I'm Danny Guarantee, and I am joined, as always, by Madadam. How are you, Madadam? i yeah I was just telling you off off mic. um Well, off recording, but on mic.
Speaker: and I'm getting over a little bit of sickness, so I just sprinted up the stairs. And, oh, I feel like I ran a lot more. Yeah. just did. Not of it because I'm sick or because I'm lazy or what. Holy shit.
Speaker: I was literally about to say something to you. And then I was like, wait, let's start the recording first so that we can continue this conversation. We were talking about ah the pre-sick mouthfeel before. no it was. Yeah, but now I forgot what I was about to say about it.
Speaker: Yeah, i just told we were talking about we were supposed to record this yesterday. Oh, yeah yeah. And I was napping. But you were napping and I was worried that you were upset because you, you know, you're not one to just say yeah or whatever. You usually strike conversation as well.
Speaker: So when I said, hey, man, we're running real late tonight and it's been a real rough day for me. Do you mind if we record tomorrow? and you were just like, sure, dude. That is what I said. was like, oh, no. No. Actually, it's funny you bring that up because I, too, having a period. There wasn't a period, though. I'll tell everybody. There was not a period, and I still took it to me. I try not to add certain punctuations and messages to you because I know you'll overthink them. Apparently, that doesn't even matter at this point.
Speaker: But it's funny you bring up the the feelings behind that because like originally i was just typed sure and I was going to go back to sleep. But then I was like I went to send it and I was like if I just type a single word he'll think Oh, he's pissed.
Speaker: So I put dude at the end as like a way of like a term of endearment. Like, yeah, sure, dude. And then like, but and and to be fair, I was on my little sofa downstairs after work all night. Like I was just so drained of energy. I was telling Danny that I was starting to feel that kind of pre-sick like mouth nasal feel all day at work yesterday. And by 2 p.m. I was just...
Speaker: not, I knew something was wrong. I couldn't quite figure out what it was, but i was like, there's, I'm not right, right now, right now. um So I went home and immediately, I slept on and off for 10 to 12 hours. And like, I happened to wake up when Danny messaged me at like seven-ish or something saying, hey, we're going to be late or whatever.
Speaker: And I was in that kind of post-nap kind of but pre-wake-up coma kind of, i don't know, that fugue that you're in. And I was like, Oh, yeah, cool. Yeah. All right. It's whatever. Because I wasn't I couldn't remember we agreed on because I was supposed to be teaching a friend a dance lesson for their wedding coming up in a couple of weeks.
Speaker: And so I actually had to cancel that because I was i was like, you're getting married in two weeks. I got forget. I forbid I give you a German. It mutates and you get worse before your wedding. um So anyway, yeah. So it's funny that you felt a certain way. you're like, oh, no, he must be mad because I put the word dude in there hoping you would take it like a term of endearment.
Speaker: ah The whole rest of the night. because right and so so Mbeluga has been having stomach issues for a while. and
Speaker: Yesterday i had not slept well, so I was tired to begin with yesterday. Mbeluga's stomach was bothering her real bad that day. so you know It was just kind of an all-around crappy day.
Speaker: and At about seven o'clock, i was like, all right, I think, you know, I'll make a sandwich or something. Chow down before we do TOQ. Just as I'm about to get Beluga's like, hey, can you can you order Chinese so I can just get like chicken noodle soup?
Speaker: Something easy for my stomach. And I was like, all right. I mean, I like Chinese better than a sandwich anyway. So i was like, oh, but we're ordering it at like 715. It's not going to get here until like 830.
Speaker: eight thirty And then that's why i messaged you. And I'm like, hey, man, it's been rough. We're running late and I don't feel like rushing. Can we move this to the next day?
Speaker: Yeah, no, it's all. It's all good. It's just that well. It's just. Yeah, I i honestly was just so like I didn't leave that sofa for such a long time except to go to the bathroom and like just and now I would just crash again and I was fine. Much better sleep.
Speaker: Good. Beluga also got a much better sleep once she left the room and slept in the guest room in the middle of the night because I was snoring so bad. I felt so bad.
Speaker: I've had that too. I did. Apparently not always, but there's nights, I guess, depending on allergies and air quality or just what position I'm sleeping in. But I've been told by female partners that like,
Speaker: Really, only one person has ever truly brought up. Somebody else said, oh, yeah, sometimes. And then they were fine with it. But one woman who i' if I'd spend a night at her house, she would go sleep on her couch because apparently yeah whatever level I snoring at was not OK for her to sleep. i've I've been woken up multiple times at night for it.
Speaker: There are times where, like, I guess my conscious brain is still active, but. you know, the part that like feels what's happening to your body is already shut off. hmm.
Speaker: Because I'll swear I'm still conscious. I'm just laying there with my eyes closed. Then she'll hit me and go, you're snoring. And I'm like, I'm not even asleep yet. Oh, oh, man.
Speaker: I could tell you the only time that has ever bothered me was when i don't know if i already told the story. But was when I went to Anthrocon with Josh a couple of years ago.
Speaker: oh And did I tell you about this in the hotel, about the guy who had sleep, clearly had sleep apnea, but didn't know he had it? Yes. Yes. Well, because I had the same thing with a friend of mine and I thought that was, to die that was hard. That was scary.
Speaker: It is. That was scary. Really difficult because there's a few times where he stopped and i was like, Oh, he's done. But then I was like Oh no, he might be dead. Yeah. But then he went back and I was like, Oh no, no. Cause like if, if you've never heard someone who clearly has sleep apnea and usually it's a heavier person, i don't know how prevalent it is in,
Speaker: somebody who's a bit more petite, but usually it's a heavier person that develops it for whatever reason. don't I don't know the full science behind it. And this was a big boy. And, um, Like if you, it just, the snore gets like louder and louder pitched and kind of more gravely. And then get, you're like a, and then like, just then silence.
Speaker: And you're like, did they like, it's very alarming to hear it. Cause it's like, did they just die? But then like what happens, I think they just stopped breathing. they do it Their airway gets blocked until they finally.
Speaker: And then like after about like five or six seconds, which felt like an eternity, you're just, you're like, and like it doesn't wake him up at all like he just stayed asleep i i actually i went through the same thing i could hear my friend in the next room over he would snore and then it would just stop for a while and then yeah he would start gasping for breath so i finally went over and woke him up in the middle of night and i'm like are you okay yeah man i'm fine why what's wrong yeah dude you're not breathing dude i wish i don't know what you're talking about i'm like what are
Speaker: And that's the thing. that no You don't like until someone tells you, and I don't know what this dude's family life is like or whatever, but I tried telling him and he he too was just in this hard denial. I wish I had recorded it, but honestly I went and slept on the roof for about like two hours because like,
Speaker: i I was so sleep deprived because I couldn't, I don't know how Josh fell asleep. Like i have no fucking clue how he went to sleep to that shit, but I was just up all night. And at one point it was funny you mentioned like, you know, but look like punching you or moving you and you're kind of somewhat conscious because I would take my pillow and just fucking whip it. I didn't even know this guy. i didn't even know him.
Speaker: Just met him. And I just fucking whip it. And he would go, yeah.
Speaker: And go back, I'm like, son of bitch. Yeah, that's why she moved last night. And had the balls tell that when I turned the TV on just to give myself some noise, he'd be like, hey, have a hard time sleeping with all that noise. mind turning the TV off? You motherfucker.
Speaker: What? You don't hear yourself doing that shit, but you hear the I don't even have the volume up. I just have it on just to give me something to look at. was like, this son of bitch. All right, at least I'm conscientious enough.
Speaker: to fall asleep to literally anything. The light can be on I've slept through police raids. I've slept through all kinds of and weirdness. What a superpower.
Speaker: What a superpower. God. like I just tell you about that? The police raid that I slept through? No. one night I go to bed. I'm still living with my parents. It's a normal, normal night.
Speaker: I go to bed and I wake up. Early morning, basically. And my parents are in the room. And I'm like, what is, you know, what's going on? And my parents are like, okay, we're good now. Everything's fine.
Speaker: I just want you to know that the alarm system, the inside alarm system got tripped. So we came in here and we let it ring. So it called the police and the police came and searched the house.
Speaker: and Oh, did i did I sleep through that? my mom's like, yeah. You slept through the whole thing. ah I thought when you said police raid, you meant like a SWAT team kicked in a door next door and was like, go move, move, move, move. And there's gunfire, and you're like, yeah, I'm good. No, but I did sleep through the police officers coming through guns drawn with the flashlights out to check the house.
Speaker: That's Including the room I'm in sleeping. i Sometimes I wish I had that skill because like I've been I don't know why I've been noticing them more, but like I'm just the distance enough away that the trains that are in my neighborhood.
Speaker: <unk>re They're very distant, but you're I'm aware of them, but sometimes they reach much closer and I don't know if it's a bigger train or the house. The house I lived in before Mel and I moved in.
Speaker: Oops, Beluga and I so moved in together. um I lived right next door to the train tracks. Literally right on top of them. God, I couldn't. Never bothered me at all.
Speaker: I'd die. I would die from sleep exhaustion. It's hard for me to fall asleep to things, especially if it's not like a single droning noise, but it changes.
Speaker: hu But once I'm out, I'm dead. I'm out. Ain't nothing waking me up. Beautiful. I admire that skill, and I hope someday I can... I get, see, the thing is for me is i think when I'm asleep, I'm fine, but it's,
Speaker: Maybe maybe I have something like that or like to a degree, certain things won't wake me up. I have been awakened by the trains before, but don't like the really, really loud one cause it was very just a quick. And I was like, oh, fuck. no alarm um But for the most part, I can. But it's it's the noises I hear falling asleep that keep me from falling. Yeah, it's it's for me, it's changes in my surroundings. So like, yeah, I can sleep with the light on no problem. But if you then shut the light off, it'll wake me up.
Speaker: or i had or Or I should say, like, if I'm not fully asleep yet, once I'm out, I'm out. But like, it's changing it while I'm trying to sleep that will get me. Or one night we had, we used to live on the ground floor apartment in an apartment complex and somebody either was an idiot or stupid, just whatever, parked their car but never shut it off.
Speaker: And all night I could hear the engine, which... was fine because it was just ah like ah a constant drone. What a waste. Every once in a while.
Speaker: They had like a fan in the car that would kick on, I guess, to to keep the engine going. That would keep waking me up. Every time I started to doze, that would kick on and it would. Interesting. but ways I was so upset.
Speaker: I've had that where somebody abandoned the car and the car alarm just kept going off all night. Oh. Just for just me. And the thing was, was like, apparently there is a cutoff time or after like 10 minutes, it stops.
Speaker: But then it restarts. And it was going on for hours and hours. And eventually we would call the police because the whole neighborhood was like, what the fuck? They came and they searched the house that it was near. Nobody was answering. then they left after they got the car to shut off.
Speaker: Then they come back 10 minutes later because it kicked back on. It eventually just like broke the hood open and just disconnected the battery. So that's fine. Yeah. You deserve it at that point. Yeah. Obviously don't care about the car.
Speaker: Yeah. I don't know whose it was, but, and it was just there for the longest time. I never saw it move. um Oh my God. Yeah. But that reminds me, speaking of like, you know, used to talk about the lights being on and off is that I need to add to my list of things I want to get.
Speaker: is I want to get um a sleep mask, like ah like a blindfold. Because I do struggle, and oftentimes I'll just cover my face if there's a light on, or if I'm sleeping in the afternoon. But then my face is all hot and sweaty because I'm just breathing on myself the whole time.
Speaker: So it's not always the most... i have to find like an air pocket to pop up in while I'm doing don't if i could sleep with something like that on. There's got to be one out there that would work. I haven't even had my hair in my face. I need to like push my hair back before I lay down.
Speaker: See, but I often will just take a pillow and just put it over my face like a sandwich and then just like go sleep like that. But I need to add that to my list along with a ah ah dash cam because I really feel like that's something that you every car should have that I don't.
Speaker: I want one of those too. I want to get me a dash cam and figure out how to fucking because it's hundreds of dollars to get somebody else to install it. But I want to get one and my former roommate installed his so he could probably show me how to do mine. Because I guess to have them running like off hours and stuff like that, you have run into your wiring in some way.
Speaker: um So I want to get one of those two. And also, you know what I want to get, Danny, because I'm saying it out loud to help people remind me that I want things. Manifest it. I want a puppet ah or so a series of puppets. I want to learn how to puppeteer things.
Speaker: Like the old style string puppets or? Uh, Like Kermit the Frog hand the ass Like a hand puppet. like I'm talking like old school Jim Henson, like Muppet style puppets, like almost ventriloquist style, but like not... I could even do a ventriloquist dummy, but the goal wouldn't be for me to learn ventriloquy.
Speaker: It would be to just be able to make the characters. You know, I've been watching a lot of old like... interviews and stuff lately and Jim Henson at one point talks about how like someone says well how can you sit there and do that with Kermit on your hand well I can see your mouth moving he's like because I'm not a ventriloquist and like you know it's what you're looking at and then he would have Kermit chime in and say stuff while he's made explanation then the camera's looking at him everybody's giggling and he's like see like you're not looking at me when Kermit's talking you know he's like so like it doesn't matter if I have this or not so like i don't know there's something about that but I would still probably do an off-screen
Speaker: I kind of just want to make little shorts with puppets. Shout out to the YouTuber I watch. Arlo, I think is his name, who does Nintendo news and stuff.
Speaker: His whole channel, he's just it's a puppet. I have no idea what the guy looks like. I love that. I want that. It's just like this blue fuzzy puppet. I feel like it's kind of like how VTubers have their whole thing, but with a lot less work. yeah Because I don't want to have all the technology strapped to were to a channel, my favorite way of like having your face in there.
Speaker: I miss the just 2D. Changing different poses and like doing a little animated bounce kind of Yeah, I think it's pretty easy to make at least the ones that are light up by V tubing, but I always preferred that. I always thought that was more charming.
Speaker: I agree. And I have been a part of something like that before, back like in the the the height of the pandemic. I had people who would take like an image of us or, or some sort of drawing, or I, I just made like a little avatar from Reddit, I think. And they just use that and made it bounce up and down.
Speaker: um And it went great. People loved it. yeah So that's all I would want. If I did like a YouTube, just have like a little to the image of me that, does different poses based on whatever I'm doing.
Speaker: Yeah. And just has like a little bounce animation as it switches poses. Yeah, bouncy. Yeah. Speaking of bounce, see why don't we bounce over to a question? And then once we get through the question, you know, I know we talked initially about maybe reviewing all the words of the day or at least guessing to see if we know what they are.
Speaker: I'd be down to try something like that if you. I'm down, but I'm not going to do well. I feel like I'm going to get at least 40%. I'm going to keep score. But again, it's going to be a team effort.
Speaker: Sure. So it's going to be how many do we as a collective? If it's a team effort, I think it we'll get at least 50. I think we'll get half. Do you want to do team effort? Do you want to? do Yeah. No, I think that's great. perfect for it' good I'm with you. I much prefer cooperative. So but real quick before we do that stuff, I do have some announcements.
Speaker: Oh, go ahead. Just some stuff. yeah One, I got another big boy job. You did. i did. I start. Well, I start a month from now, but I'm going to be. It's just a warehouse job, but it's a job. And it's awesome an edibles job.
Speaker: Edibles. Oh, yeah. That's great. Maybe they'll give you some bonuses for your wife to feel better. But even bigger news. Your boy, for the first time ever, has gotten paid for a voice acting role.
Speaker: Oh, yeah. Well, Sort of. It was a paid audition. It was a paid shortlist audition. But I made money from voice acting. Damn it. I'm a professional now.
Speaker: You know, Sam Reich is big on that for people who audition and and paying people to ah like who show up to audition for their time. Yeah, I think that's cool. This was a normal audition.
Speaker: And then I made the shortlist and he's like, okay, this is a shortlist. Now that you're doing like it's, it was another audition, but bigger. Yeah. And he's like, for this one, I will pay you a $20 flat rate.
Speaker: That's wonderful. That's a, that's, that's a great next step, dude. Awesome. And I'm more excited. It only took like 10 years. Does it feel bad? Does it shitty of me that I'm more excited to learn about this warehouse job?
Speaker: A little bit. I mean, i' I'm excited for you, but like, but like, and I want to talk about that, but you said the other thing first. So I want to learn about that first. No, that's fine.
Speaker: Yeah. so I mean, I just, it was a hiring blitz. Apparently this company just came out with a new flavor for their edibles. So they need people to work the kitchen.
Speaker: Even though that it was said as a warehouse job, I guess I'm working the kitchen, which means packaging and making the edible or whatever. I don't know. You're making them. That's such a cool. I don't know. I hope that's honestly part it. All I know is he said I have to wear scrubs and masks and stuff. So it sounds like I'm actually working with it.
Speaker: Honestly, this time I swear it'll go better because I'm not going to be around communicable diseases and dying people. That's really cool, though. I do. I am very interested to hear what that's about once you get it, because um that could be a really cool skill to develop, because that's something I have an interest, not specifically edibles, but like just learning how to weave certain concoctions together and to prepare.
Speaker: um i don't know, just i don't know. I think it's a cool skill to be able to measure. It's not going to start for another month or so. What is it called? I have to jump through Verano.
Speaker: No, no. What is the position called? Oh, uh... I'm curious if I can look up to see they you I it was just, like, warehouse associate, which is why I was so... Oh, okay....surprised when I heard what it was. Well, think that's really cool. I do hope you get a hand in some of that stuff, because that's very exciting to learn that skill.
Speaker: They did a... Like I said, they did, like, a hiring blitz. They just... I didn't even have to, like, apply, really. I just sent them my resume, and they were like, okay, we'll schedule you for this time.
Speaker: And then that entire day, they just... um Did interviews with everybody who had signed up. Wow. One after the other. And yeah, they offered me the job yesterday.
Speaker: So that was fun. Wow. That's exciting. Good for you. um And so this voice acting gig, is this for like a book? No. I guess it was voice acting. It was for YouTube channel.
Speaker: And unfortunately, they did give the part to someone else. but Ah, cool. did make money from voice acting. I'm counting it. Damn it. Well, that is I need this. Does that sound like does it seem like there's other opportunities through this channel, though? He did say I'm absolutely going to hold on to your.
Speaker: um your your demo reel and everything. Because we got, he was like, you did great. Just plus the other guy happened to hit the nail a little bit harder on the head. Plus, who knows? That person may back out or maybe they they end up not fulfilling what they're looking for and they may do it again.
Speaker: Which, like I said, it it's fair. um I do have a couple auditions out right now that I'm really hopeful for. One of them was the one I put on my Instagram. It was like the the cartoon audition.
Speaker: a I've did like five different roles. I thought every one of them came out great. So I'm i'm really hoping I get at least one of those also a paid gig. So we'll see what happens with it. But yeah, I mean, it's a sign of life and I will take a sign of life at this point.
Speaker: Sure. Where do you find your auditions these days? This one was back door. Oh, yes. Or not back to backstage backstage. Backdoor is very different. i was going to say that is this what you're auditioning for?
Speaker: Casting call club, Upwork, backstage. And I'm looking into actors access and casting networks. I know. Three of those. So, yeah, I was curious if there was any other ones that had um manifested since back in the day when I was fucking around with those.
Speaker: um but That's awesome. I hope that that that maybe they find some other work that might might fit you because I find that that's oftentimes what happens, isn't it, is where someone gets rejected and then they get called back, you know. Like a lot of famous movies out there that have like.
Speaker: It would be great because this this was a YouTube channel, which meant it was like a long term ongoing commitment, which meant it was basically a part time job. It wasn't just a was that through Upwork one off thing or that one was to the page.
Speaker: I believe that one it was either backstage or it was Upwork. OK, yeah, I've seen a few of those on Upwork. um which one I wasn't sure how backstage maybe that help work actually either way that's awesome but yeah I think it's really cool too that they actually paid you for the the next level of auditioning because not everybody does that so Yeah, and I can upwork the way it works is that you have to buy fake currency to apply for stuff. so Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker: I'm just going to put that money back into the fake currency and use it to buy more stuff. but Which is awesome. Yeah, like I said, it's a sign of life. And i had been telling him Beluga lately that both in my voice acting and in my like normal big boy career, I need a sign of life. I hadn't been getting any interviews.
Speaker: I hadn't been hearing anything from all these auditions. I was like, I just need some sign of life. And then literally two days. Thursday I get the the shortlist for that part.
Speaker: And then Friday I get the interview for the the edibles thing. So like it comes in waves. So do I. You just gotta to make it to the next wave. Yeah.
Speaker: Well, what do you say then? That's all I got. We roll over to the question of the day and then some words of the day. Let's strap in. Do it. Also, so sorry, I stepped off screen for a second. I forgot to take my one of my meds I need to take to make myself feel better.
Speaker: oh that's um It's a quick little shot through the nose. OK, first question is, from I mean, there's two questions and they're from Dixon. Thank you, Dixon.
Speaker: And the first question I can answer. i already know the answer. um The first question is, in what situation would you need some thugs? And that's if those thugs was giving out hugs. I already know the answer.
Speaker: It's from a wonderful song. And that's when you need thugs is when those thugs are giving out hugs. So don't worry, Dixon. Thank you for the suggestion. i love that song. If you don't know it, it's called Hey Homies by the Aquabats.
Speaker: It's just a wonderful, very good, very good, upbeat, feel good song that encourages everyone to hug everybody. That's what it's about. Yes, my um answer was also going to be very wholesome and nice, too.
Speaker: What was it?
Speaker: he said sarcastically. Yeah. I was actually thinking more like I would want some thugs when I go back to ah previous workplaces to return their stuff because I have a laptop from a job I left long ass time ago because they laid me off and never wanted it back.
Speaker: Wow. And nowadays when you are let go of a place, they don't want you coming back in. Either they'll send you boxes to mail back whatever you have, or like they'll be like, drop it off with the front desk or something, but you're not really allowed in
Speaker: So i was like, well, what am I supposed to do with this? And I tried to contact them. They never got back to me. And then this last job I had for about a month, I have their charger for their laptop. Well, it sounds like you'd have something to scrap for cash.
Speaker: ah The only reason I don't have their laptop is because they told everybody to keep them in the office to do updates. um So like I would love to return this stuff.
Speaker: But yeah, I want some hired muscle when I'm doing it. Well, it sounds like you just have some new stuff. Yeah, I basically do. I'm like, especially the old job with the laptop.
Speaker: It was a bank. And my job at the time was to shut everything down, save everything that happened that day, and then start everything back up for this entire bank.
Speaker: How dumb are you to lay someone off and leave them with that?
Speaker: I'm like, it is a good thing that this was me and that I am like an ethical person that doesn't believe in like, yeah, really screwing things up and wanting to get an oversight and everything. Yeah. But yeah, I had all the codes and everything to just shut everything down and delete everything if I wanted to. Like, that was my job.
Speaker: Delightful. Oh, my God. ah Well, I can go. get I can go. where I'm not going to go return the stuff for you, but I'll go get you more stuff. I could use more stuff. Yeah, I'll get you more stuff.
Speaker: Next question. What's a meal that you have eaten that was especially memorable for you? For example, the day after my grandfather's 90th birthday party, we were both awake before anyone else, and he decided that the leftover red velvet cake from the party sounded good.
Speaker: So we sat there and had red velvet cake and milk for breakfast, just the two of us. Do you have any specific meal? Not all right. I was thinking like an actual food that was I mean, it's because my mom makes this.
Speaker: We call it chili, but I guess it's not really chili, but it's so good. has no there beans in it. No beans. Oh, that's not chili. um That's what I mean. Like, we call it chili, but I don't think it is actually chili. Unless you spell it with a different, you know, as sort of. It has chili powder in it, so going call it. chi ah But it is. It's so good.
Speaker: I you know how that there's like breeds of dogs that have a problem that they'll eat until they kill themselves. I know, but I believe you. I have that problem with it.
Speaker: I could eat it so much. My stomach bursts and I just die right there. awesome um Oh, man. But I need more time to think of like a specific time I sat down and ate and it was like super special.
Speaker: ah Yeah. um Let's see. I'm trying to think. I'm sure I have some. um ah Like i I don't have any that I associate like Again, like you said, I don't know if I'd say a particular meal of a memory or anything like that, or memory of a meal for that matter.
Speaker: um But there are definitely certain foods that remind me of certain things. Like, um there is... For a short while, my nickname was Pudding to a girl that used to be on our podcast. Oh, Pudding.
Speaker: Because... The only thing she knew about me from the friend who introduced me to her prior to meeting me was she's like, well, what's what's something about Adam I should know if I'm going to meet him and get to know him? And he's like...
Speaker: I mean, he really likes pudding. And like that. right What a great like this is what my friend you should know about. my And this is a man who had known me since like ah like middle school. Like, I don't know why he couldn't think of something else to say about me. Adam likes pudding. Beautiful thing to know. So that was something that i always thought of. And like, you know, I guess in in regard to pudding, again, it's not a meal per se, but.
Speaker: I used to, in my old apartment, I used to keep a box of snack packs and a box of Jell-O pudding, like the smaller containers of Jell-O pudding. And they sold like the snack packs in like the big box.
Speaker: So there was like, I don't know, maybe, i don't know, 12 in there or something. um I used to keep the snack packs for when I just needed something to indulge in, but it was like really quick.
Speaker: And I would keep the Jell-O pudding for when I was having a bad day. Um, and I found that eventually those two things combined when, like, when I was living at my first apartment and there was a while where, like, I was living alone there when I had roommates coming in and out.
Speaker: Uh, and so that was just like, that was truly, I don't typically have comfort food, but pudding became, my comfort food whenever I was feeling lonely, whenever I was feeling sad, whenever I was like stressed out.
Speaker: Um, and I, I still waited when I was happy too, when I was having a good day, i was like, I'm cause the thing was I never ate it with a spoon. I either squeezed it straight out or I sucked my tongue all the way in there and just licked it clean. Oh, French dude. Yeah. Or I would use my finger and just like as a little scoop and just like shovel it into my face.
Speaker: Um, so I guess I wouldn't say like a specific memory, but a specific time because I haven't done that in a long time. There was just about a 12 month period where that fridge was never without putting in it.
Speaker: And it was always, every time I bought it, it was always, I would buy one big one and one little one because I was afraid that if I bought too many of the jello pudding ones that I would always associate I would find more reasons to be sad. And so I kept that for when I'm having a really bad day. that Yeah. Jello was for bad days. Snack pack was for, ah okay. Or fine days or good days.
Speaker: Um, and then eventually what I would do was when things were kind of looking up, I was just like, well, i don't want to not like these things because I've had them all the time. So, uh, I would stop buying the snack packs just to have less in the house. Cause I was crushing the box.
Speaker: Um, And I would just keep the Jell-O pudding around. And that was just like a Adam, you're doing great now. So like if I was if I did something especially good, if I was feeling especially wonderful that day, i was like, you know what, Adam, you deserve the Jell-O pudding today. That's a good shit. i like that. That's nice. Yeah. So eventually there was just that was a really rough year at my little my first big boy apartment where just a lot was changing and a lot of people were in and out. And then I was alone for a few months trying to figure out how I was going to pay for bills and job loss and losing my car and just
Speaker: girlfriend, well, my ex-girlfriend came back into my life for a little bit and that was like kind of weird. And then Justin had like left to go live somewhere else very abruptly. And just, there was a lot going on. I had a job change and I was just really fucking stressed out and just like miserable. And it just got to a point where I stopped sleeping on my bed. I only slept on my couch, even though I had a bed. I just, that was a safe space. And I, I don't know why I just never wanted to leave it.
Speaker: Um, So, yeah, I knew I was getting better where one day i tried treated myself to. Some Jell-O pudding, and some nice, really just creamy, just whipped just the right way, chocolate Jell-O pudding off so good. So rich.
Speaker: It was like a dark chocolate kind that I found. And i was just like, i don't know. I didn't think actively about the connection between the two. But I think it was that same day or that same week that after I taught myself to enjoy it because it was a good thing and not because I was sad, that I remember looking at my bed and being like, man, why don't i why am I not sleeping in here? Like I'd go into my room and just I'd only ever go in my room to change my clothes. I never spent any time in there.
Speaker: And I realized what it was, was not only did the couch feel like a safe space, But I got used to having a companion and then I didn't have one or I got used to having somebody in the house and I didn't have one.
Speaker: And so I just felt like if I go lay in this bed that's big enough for two people, then I'll wish I had someone there. Yeah, it's kind of like empty nest syndrome. Yeah. Or like when my roommate was gone, I was just like, well, there's no one in that room. Why should there be anybody in that room. And so I would just like stay in this like central place where when people would come over to commune and have fun, my apartment was where people came to hang out. And I was like, this is where the people hang out. So this is where I need to be. I need to bask in that energy. Yeah. And so what I think subconsciously, it was like, Adam, you can have this nice thing because you're feeling good and then go sleep in this nice bed that hasn't been used in almost 12 months.
Speaker: um And that's the bed behind me, actually. Like, that's the guy. I still have it. um And yeah, it was just... i So I would... Again, there's probably other memories I could share about food and meals and merriment and stuff. But the first thing I can think of is just a food I still very much love, and that's pudding.
Speaker: that's I think that's fair. Yeah. I got i got two. Did I give you enough time? okay thank Okay. ah The first one is not a meal either. It is a snack, and it's one of the few times... Actually, the first time I remember...
Speaker: Getting to really get one over on my parents. Oh. Back in the day, my mom and I used to be in a bowling league every Saturday or Sunday, whatever it was. Nice.
Speaker: And ah one day when I was still kind of young, I wanted Starburst so bad. I kept bugging my mom. I want a pack of Starburst. And this bowling league was in the morning. It was like 10, 11 o'clock in the morning.
Speaker: So we'd usually get out around lunch-ish time, like 1-ish, 1.30-ish. And my mom finally was at the end of her rope while we were bowling and was like, you know what? Fine.
Speaker: I will give you, we'll buy a pack of Starbursts. You can have one Starburst for every strike you bowl in these next three games. Oh, dang. One per? One per. Wow.
Speaker: Guess who got exactly 12 strikes and there's 12 starbursts in a pack? Your mom? Not my mom. She probably got more than I did. But I did and she bought the pack and she's sitting there counting out the starburst and she's like, here you go. like ah You could see like that, well, shit, look on her face.
Speaker: How many was it across three games? Do you remember? twelve It was 12 across all three games. I mean, I mean like per game. Sorry. Oh, no, I don't remember. I remember my highest score ever was 200
Speaker: They must have gotten quite a few of them in that one. cause I imagine it must not have been even across all three Well, no, that was my highest score ever. It was 200 even. From the multiple strikes game? No, just in general, my whole time bowling. So you didn't get 200 in those three games with all those strikes? I don't think so.
Speaker: Oh, wow. Okay. I thought maybe you did extra well with those and got that some strikes. But i had you know I had a reason to get strikes that day. so The problem was... I wasn't consistent, so I would get strikes, but then I couldn't follow it up with a double or a turkey or whatever. would miss the next shot. Or a turducken at the end. Or a turducken. Never got a turducken, I don't think.
Speaker: Same, dude. Same. I'm bad at it. one of my most romantic memories to me, ah growing up, I always had really sensitive teeth, so I never ate ice cream.
Speaker: I always got milkshakes, if anything. So Mbeluga and I, we lived about 10 minute walk away from an ice cream place at one point.
Speaker: So we decided to go for a walk, get some ice cream and eat it on the way back.
Speaker: And I was telling her like, yeah, you know, I will probably just get a milkshake or whatever. But for whatever reason, I couldn't. I think they were out of milk. Out of milk?
Speaker: Something like that. Like, for whatever reason, I couldn't get a milkshake. And I was like, well, I'm here already. The milk make machine. that I've been using. Was it broken like at McDonald's? The cow was out. Oh, the cow was out.
Speaker: um I had been using SensorDine. like, you know what? Fine. I'll get ice cream in a cone. For the first time in like. 25 years.
Speaker: and It was a disaster. The entire walk back, I had ice cream dripping all down my arm. over place. Because you don't know how to eat ice cream? Because I don't know how to do it.
Speaker: Mbeluga's laughing at me the entire way home. She's trying to teach me how to do it. And um I swear I'm doing it. like She's like, you know you have to look around the top of the cone. You gotta really get around it.
Speaker: And I'm doing that. We talked about this. But then my whole arm was covered.
Speaker: It cracks me up because like it's like when kids first get ice cream cones and just like it's just all down their wrist and their face is covered. They just like don't have exactly that. Yeah.
Speaker: I'll be damned if I let a kid eat an ice cream. Obviously, I made a big fool of myself. But God, it was it was romantic in that silly kind of way. Sure. I loved it. i had a great time.
Speaker: Yeah, we left the whole way back. Did you ever learn how to eat ice cream? No, I haven't had a cone since then. Danny, next time we hang out, we should go get one. Oh, no, don't do that to me. I'll show you how to eat one. It's easy. She was going to show me how to eat one, I couldn't do it.
Speaker: But i'm ah I've been a teacher for so many years. I can show you. Are you going to teach me, or are you going to leave me hanging so you can see me flail with the ice cream all down my arm? No, because I wouldn't wish that's a disgusting feeling to have all that sticky all over you. I wouldn't want that for you.
Speaker: it Like on a really, really hot day, you have to be fast. So that's when it's really hard is like it was summer. Yeah. It's just if it's like the dead of summer and just like you have to start rimming it like immediately because that whole thing just going to because you have to give it something to run into first to give you more time to like not get it on your fucking hands, which is why you also get a napkin.
Speaker: I had a napkin. It went through. Yeah, it's not the most practical carrying device, depending on how much ice cream they put on it. I'll just get, which is why I'll never get a big one. Yeah, get a cup next time. Little ones are easy. Little ones are easy. I can show you those. That's almost about what I get anyway. Well, that's when you just down it all at once and you just. oh Yeah, just deep throat it. Yeah.
Speaker: So your, your memories are of starburst and I'm putting, so ah dig yeah I'm sorry, buddy. i tried. i tried doing snap that's holy got We don't have have meals.
Speaker: There's no like special meal or anything. I'm trying to, I'm really trying to think of one that, you know what I have, man, it's not even a good memory though, but like,
Speaker: But but like you know, I'll share a quick one. It's not a good one. It's not that it's a bad memory either. It's just kind of like When I was a kid my mom made us a lot of very fried not good for you food and but that when you're used to it as a kid, you don't know any better and so you know like she used to cook these forget what she called them but she would like dice up tomatoes and put them in a a pressure cooker which i haven't seen since i was a kid i have yet in my adult life to see a pressure cooker i haven't seen a pressure cooker in like ever but i remember the look because like the little nubby at the top shakes back and forth as it like a ch you know will never forget that sound as a kid and my mom would always make like dice potatoes in there with gravy and something else like it was just
Speaker: I don't know. One of my favorite things to eat when we were kids was just potatoes with gravy and just she would cook them in a pressure cooker with something else. They're real salty and, and, and, and greasy.
Speaker: And i remember, and I had a lot of favorite foods, but that was just one that I had left to go live with my girlfriend right after high school. And I hadn't seen my parents in a little while.
Speaker: And then, um Then after a couple of years, I went to North Carolina and i learned that you can cook food that I was used to cooking in the microwave or in a fryer in the oven.
Speaker: And I was like, you can put chicken nuggets in the oven. Heck yeah, you can. What? They're crunchier. Like what? um And so I just started eating differently, not realizing how much that was changing my taste buds and my gut biome.
Speaker: And then when I went back home, my mom was like, oh, you know, what do you want to eat? You know I'll make you something that you liked before. And so i was like, oh yeah, make me those potatoes and gravy. That's my shit. And so it's like, oh, that's easy. I have all that stuff.
Speaker: And i went home and I started eating it and just, I remember my mouth and my stomach were so mad at me that I couldn't. And ordinarily I would crush multiple plates of, I can't remember there anything else that came with it. I think it was just potatoes and gravy.
Speaker: And like, I would crush multiple helpings of it as a kid and as a teenager, but I couldn't even finish the first plate. And my mom's like, what would you want me to go get you some more? it' like i didn't finish what I had. And the devastation on my mom's face where she thought she did something wrong.
Speaker: She's like, you don't like this anymore. Did I do something? Is it is it bad? And I couldn't explain it to her at the time. i was like, I don't know. Like maybe I'm sick or something. And I had to call my sister later because I was just like, I don't know what happened. Like, I don't know why I don't like food that I like anymore.
Speaker: And she's like, because it's less shitty food that you're eating. yeah And that's like secret takeaway here is never stop eating bad. If you like it, it does change. Like you start eating healthy, you'll get boring. Remember, or at least healthier. i Like stuff I would never say that I eat healthy, but it's just I yeah i think we talked about this in previous episodes. I just try to eat less of certain things while still eating shitty things. um I don't eat well. I just eat less shitty. That's what I say.
Speaker: And, um you know, like I'm very aware of when salt is in things or when sugar is in things or when like a lot of grease has been used. I don't like greasy pizza anymore. Like we just ordered out from somewhere like a Costco and that fucking thing drips. It's just, Oh yeah. With just, I, so I felt like such a turd cause I was dabbing it off with a napkin. So goes no no so I was actually going to say,
Speaker: A lot of the pizza places around us are like that, where you can hold that pizza and it'll just a stream of... a reservoir. I had a friend who would do exactly that. He would oh take a napkin and dab it off.
Speaker: And as kids, we would always make fun of him, but now...
Speaker: Yep. Nope. I don't want to have the runs tonight. Yeah, man. Fucking you need a goddamn French drain to like redirect all that shit that's dripping off your pizza. And I just I look at the plate and everything. I'm like, oh, my God.
Speaker: Like I would eat that pond of grease when I was a kid. It's like, holy fuck. When I used to work at a ballpark, one time I was sent out to do one of like the little pizza stations that they are not pizza ah burger stations that they had.
Speaker: And they paired me up with what people at the stadium considered the best burger guy for whatever reason, when he made the burgers, they were always amazing.
Speaker: Cooked to perfection. Tasted great. People would line up all over just to get a burger from his stand instead of like the regular concession. So I'm finally working with him and I'm like, so what is the secret? Like, what do you do?
Speaker: He's like, Oh, well, most people, the way our, our,
Speaker: stoves are set up they always have a slight slant forward and then a drain right so that all the grease drips down and then drips into it he just catches the grease with the burger well what he did is he's like the secret is that the wheels in the back are broken in the stand and it tips back a little bit now so all the grease piles up and back and he's like i just cook the burgers in there and just have them swimming in the grease the whole day oh my god and i was like oh god even as teenager i was like oh i can feel my arteries closing Yeah, it's yeah, man. But that shit matters. That's why like I don't get the like I don't do bacon much because it's just what makes bacon taste good is that it has a bunch of grease all over it. It's so.
Speaker: That's what makes bacon good. Bad for the body, but it's greasy. And it's cardboardy sometimes. so Even cardboardy, it's so good. but that cardboard actually tasted like bacon, I'd eat cardboard. Anyway, all that to say, your taste buds do change, folks. They change when you cut certain things out. I used to hate fish.
Speaker: Your gut too. Gut biome is important. Changes everything. When you don't have a certain kind of mixture in there for a while, your stomach's like, whoa, get that the fuck of there. actually think that might be Umbeluga's issue because she's been having the stomach issues for so long and nobody could find anything. So we were talking to like nutritionists and dietitians and everything and Yeah, the prevailing theory right now is that she just like really royally screwed up her microbiome dealing with stuff like she might have had a problem to begin with.
Speaker: Yeah. But in solving that problem, we've basically nuked her gut biome. And now she has to try and basically restart eating from scratch. She has to learn how to eat different foods again. This is a great opportunity. I know we talked about it off mic, but to find a kombucha that she likes or to find some way. We looked, but or you was nine there's something out there for everybody. She's just being picky. She's very like, but there there's something out there for everybody. If I can find something.
Speaker: I even got Justin to drink kombucha before, and he's one of pickiest motherfuckers on planet Earth. I've never had it either. don't know what it is. There's something out there. You just have to find the right one. And what I worry about is, is that like, because they're grown ass adults who will try something and they got the wrong flavor or a bad brand. And they're like well, then I hate it forever because there's no other variety.
Speaker: You know, like. There's good ones out there. You just have to find what works for you. But also there's other ways to do it. There's ah like there's certain kinds of yogurts that have like that kind of good bacteria with her dietitian for it. So there's lots of ways to lots of ways. But it's a process and it's a long and annoying one. Oh, it's like the only way to get your body used to eating a food again is to eat it and just kind of push through the consequences the first few times. And it's tough.
Speaker: Oh, yeah, absolutely. Yeah, it's ah it's it's difficult, but it it changes your life. I remember when i first started, because I went through something similar, not that I was having like a disorder per se, but just that like I could feel myself getting sicker a lot or like I was going to the bathroom a lot more. I just came to figure it out, and then somebody had told me about I initially started mixing unpasteurized, I think it's unpasteurized um apple cider vinegar into drinks.
Speaker: So I'd put like a cap full of it into a smoothie or something because it is strong and it is powerful. And you're very aware of it if you just try to drink it. And it's not recommended to just drink straight apple cider, unpasteurized apple cider vinegar because it'll fuck you up.
Speaker: um But if you mix it in with your juice or with a smoothie or with like a glass of water, it's supposed to be really, really good for you as long as it's diluted in a way that it's not just straight you know bacteria.
Speaker: um And so I did that for a really long time. ah So I would just get a bottle of just plastic bottle, a bottled water at the time, put a cat full in there mix it up real good and then just drink it throughout the day.
Speaker: And for the first couple of weeks, man, like I almost stopped doing it because my stomach was hurting all the fucking time. um Like I said, bathroom issues kept coming up even more.
Speaker: i had a hard time enjoying certain foods like if I had it like right before. So I would drink it right after. Um, but then eventually i made my way to kombucha because I learned like, Hey, apple cider vinegar is really, really good for you.
Speaker: But if you kind of continue that for too long, it could actually have adverse effects. So I went from apple cider vinegar, realizing I was probably drinking too much of it, um, to kombucha, which is how I made that jump. Cause someone said, well, you can do that, but like it's better and it's flavored and it's less intense. And so I thought, okay, I'll do that.
Speaker: Uh, it's less acidic, which is a big part of the apple cider vinegar, which it's very acidic. Um, And yeah, ah big changes, i could I could say for sure. I think that helped me to eventually cut out things like salt and sugar in my drinks and shit because that was what I was replacing it with. My stomach kind of got used to like a different scene.
Speaker: um And I think that's how I got to where I'm at now is like I started with apple cider vinegar and working with kombucha. Some yogurts as well. There's something like I met like i mentioned. I forget what I used to get, but there was a very specific brand that has probiotics in it that, again, upon first try, almost shit my pants. But like you get used to it and you just drink, you eat less of it and as opposed to a whole container. You just eat like a little spoonful of it and then you're done for the day.
Speaker: um yeah But yeah, i hope I hope she finds ground in that because I remember even for me not having any diagnoses, but still trying to change my gut biome that you will notice it for like a month before you start to feel less shitty about it.
Speaker: Worth it though. So worth i hope i hope it. I hope she finds um some some stability there. all alright also for you I think you know you might enjoy it find something you like I'll give it a try I'm not against trying new things good now yes are you ready to play a game yeah man we put it off long enough oh ah also this is ah for Dixon as a thank you for the questions Mike Wazowski Wazowski Wazowski
Speaker: Mike Wazowski. There it is. You got it. He was saying that my one voice from last episode sounded like her. If I just did the with it anyway.
Speaker: Let me get a scoreboard together. So we have a bunch of words of the day and we are going to try to go through as many as we can remember that Danny has a list of and see what ones we do remember.
Speaker: um I'm trying to think of a good title with since we're talking about memories of food and memories of dictionary terms.
Speaker: Trying to think of a good title for that. Like. Like, what was that? I heart the 80s. I'm trying to think of something like that. I heart radio. Yeah. Memory.
Speaker: I remember that, like, I Hurt the 80s back on, like, VHS. No, VHS. v Kids Bob. VH1. VH1. Do you remember VH1? It was kind of like us like a side, a different, similar vibe of MTV. All right, here's what you do.
Speaker: ah Is there a limit to how long you can make the title? I can make them as long as I want, but only probably, like, the first five words will actually show up when people it. want you to make the title out of every word that we use right now.
Speaker: Yeah, okay. Every word we remember has to go into the title. Listen, this is quick and dirty edits and quick and dirty posting. I don't do that shit. are you talking about? i as I'm asking you try. You think I'm going to do work? I want you to try for one episode. The work happens while we record, sir.
Speaker: The work happens while we record. Do you think I was just naturally good at hosting shows? Yes, but that's beside the point. That's why not work. It's work for me because hosting with other people is different. Keep hurting the cats is hard. That's why I just kind of sit here and enter a fugue state and forget everything the second we hit stop.
Speaker: It's true. It's true. And I only get to remember it because I have to go back and edit it, um which is why I don't spend a ton of time on it. Let's say we'll call it. um Remembering the the curd foods for thought.
Speaker: Remember, yeah, you we'll just call it food. Food for thought. You know, I just call it foods for thought. And words.
Speaker: Words. Foods in memoriam. Oh, that's good. yeah going to put that. That's good. Good job, Danny. Foods in. Fancy.
Speaker: Does memoriam have an um at the end or an am at the end? think it's on Is it? um I don't know. Spellcheck will tell you. Well, I'm writing it on a piece of paper. It's not going to do that.
Speaker: You don't have spellcheck on your piece of paper. It's a.m., not you. And we fucked. Wow, we're real bad. Although in memoriam means words that mean something that died. But yeah, I know that that was why I suggested it.
Speaker: Well, you know what? Well, well, the food's in. meh time food time kit food foods oh what's a good word what's a what's a good word for food that's like a vocabulary word uh sustenance like uh um delicatessen of of memory no that's not a delicatessen just a business um a delicacy of memories uh what's the word uh
Speaker: There's cultural foods. There's um there's a word. Scram.
Speaker: There's a word for this, and I'm like dying foods synonym. There's like there's words. Ah, man, I can't think of what I'm trying to look at see. Delicacy is probably part of it.
Speaker: What if we call it like. Provisions. That sounds like it's a military meal. It One of those MREs.
Speaker: ah What if I put ah foods for culture synonym? There's a word and I'll know it when it cuisine is the word i was looking for. Fuck. I couldn't think of the word cuisine. It drives me crazy. Lean cuisine. Yes. so if We call it cuisine of memories. Yeah.
Speaker: Taking your cues and turning them from cuisine. Oh, yes. We'll call it Q. We'll call it. Oh, cuisine. Q-U-I-Z. Z-I-N-E.
Speaker: Quizine. Oh, we're so. No, it's not a quiz about magazines. Right. It'll be. That's our cuisine. I like it.
Speaker: We fucking got there. you go We got it. This is the creative process right here, listeners. Creative process and action. That's how it works off the camera. And we did it all on recording. Welcome to episode 99. Yeah, you got a little backstage pass. You know, people might edit this stuff out in other podcasts, but not here on That's Our Cube. No, never. get it raw, baby.
Speaker: You get it fucking raw. I mean, yeah, we like to give you the raw experience. Absolutely. That's it, yeah. All right. I'm so happy with that title. Okay, let's go. Let's do words of the day. Let's do it. You ready for the words, the yerds of the way?
Speaker: Yeah, I'm going to type them out as you say them. All right. First word. I can already tell you I do not remember what this is. Mellifluous. I think I know what this one is. i don't remember how to spell it. Can you spell it?
Speaker: M-E-L-L-I-F-L-U-O-U-S. All right. So I'm pretty sure... Mellifluous has something to do. It's either with a sound on the wind or a smell on the wind, but it's something about a sensation that you get.
Speaker: Like like a traveling, like like a scent that blows past in the wind or it's it's like a mellifluous sound or a mellifluous smell, but I cannot remember.
Speaker: Which it is, but I know that's that has to be it. It's something about. I can't think of how he said it. It was like, oh, um I think it's a mellifluous sound. i think it's something that you hear, like a a pleasant a pleasant sound.
Speaker: Okay. I am going to put this under Remember. what is It is fact a sweet and smooth flowing, sweet sounding sound.
Speaker: See, I think that's it's a mellifluous voice or mellifluous tones. It's flowy. It sounds nice. I think the reason I thought of it might have been a smell is because I remember the word sweet now that you said it. It was probably me thinking it was a sweet smell or a sweet sound. But yes, like a mellifluous voice or a mellifluous song or a mellifluous, I don't know.
Speaker: noise. It's just very smooth and nice. Yeah. to listen Yeah, let's fucking a good All right. One's it. Ready? Yeah. This one's easy. I remember this one. Petrichor.
Speaker: Petrichor is like at the smell after like a rain, right? Yeah. I should have let you answer it because you said you knew it. I'm sorry. i just. No, it's fine. Well, you said you knew it, so I want to confirm and you'd say you're wrong or not.
Speaker: It's the the the smell. Oh, no. These aren't actually taking me to that word. They're taking me to the main page. So i have to search it.
Speaker: Petrichor. Yeah, I have to search it in dictionary dot com. I know that's the answer. Yeah. Distinctive scent usually described as earthy pleasant made after rainfall. Yep. So remember.
Speaker: Nice to zip. All right. Now we get into the weeds. All right. Zetetic. Oh, no.
Speaker: I remember learning it, but i oh I don't even know if I have a guess. Zetetic. Do we have it written down if it's a verb? Zetetic sounds like it's probably an adjective. It is It's an adjective. I know it is.
Speaker: is an adjective. um I do not remember. zi to i have to take a guess. So I'm going to say if something is zetetic, it is...
Speaker: um I'm trying to think of like any root part of that word, but like etic, like pathetic, um prophetic.
Speaker: That's just the adjective version of something. ah So Zeta or Zeti is probably like where the fuck it comes from. going to say Zetetic is.
Speaker: I'm going to say it's something that's, I don't know, rough. We'll just say it's something that's rough and uncomfortable. No, I'm going to say it's someone that something has to do with emotion, like someone that's angry, like a zetetic person. Okay.
Speaker: What does it mean? Putting one under, not remembering. Fuck. How do you spell it? Z-E-T-E-T-I-C. t i c Okay, that's how I assumed it was spelled.
Speaker: but and What does it mean? Or based on the theory that the Earth is flat plane and that the sun, moon and other heavenly bodies are only a few thousand feet above it. What? proceeding by inquiry or investigation, like the Zetetic method, or of or related to an ancient Greek school of philosophy that espoused extreme skepticism.
Speaker: is Is it from someone's name? ah Where the fuck does that word from? Proceeded by inquiry and investigating. Damn, I would have never got that. Okay. Damn, shit. right they're on the board but That's not a word I'm going ever use. I'll i'll use mellifluous, and I probably have.
Speaker: See, it's fine that I'm the one looking at these, because I don't remember any of this. Fard. Oh, damn. i remember I remember that being a really funny one, too. Fard. I think it's a verb. think I think it had something to do with the face.
Speaker: Right. Is it a now? remember thinking like, hey farts the butt, but fart is the face. I don't remember. I remember that. Like that. That's how I at first like that was the first thing I picked up. all I thought it was like a verb. It sounds like you fart something, but I could be wrong.
Speaker: Is it it is is is it that one? Fart? I'll look it up because all I remember is face. Let me guess if ah you're saying you think it's face and we're working together and I'll say to To fard. is Do you want a hint?
Speaker: No. i had to feel like it's cheating if you give me a hint. What type it is? like Yeah, can you tell me if it's a a verb, a noun, or an adjective? It is a noun or a verb. Oh, I only remember... Okay, if it's a noun or a verb, one could have a fard or they could fard. I'm
Speaker: going to say to fard is like...
Speaker: to make rapid movements with your eyes or your nose. Like REM sleep? Kind of, but what while awake. Okay, that's another one for not remember.
Speaker: Does that have anything to do with the face or did you just misremember? No, I actually got my bit right. What was it? Facial cosmetics. Or face paint. you Oh, that that i that does ring a bell. Shit.
Speaker: Damn. There's more that I'll remember. I know there's more on the list. weve We've got plenty to go. know We don't have all of them, but I saved like all the ones we did from dictionary.com back in the day.
Speaker: ah Oh, fuck me. How do I say this again? do you spell it? I'll tell you how to say it.
Speaker: the draggie dr j okay
Speaker: reg J. Did we do this one? Maybe I never actually did this one. I I should look at the episode list and see because I put all of those words. You sure did. In each title.
Speaker: Did we know what I think that one was. i think we did do that.
Speaker: Was it? I think we did. Maybe we did. I can't pull up the page right now. It's not. I already saw, so I'm not I wouldn't have gotten it anyway.
Speaker: Oh, really? Sounds like it's not already. ah Yeah, I looked it up to get the pronunciation. Trying to see if it's on our I'm going to do control F and look for the word drag draggy draggy draggy.
Speaker: Hello, it's the draggy. Did we do that one? Maybe i maybe we did it. Maybe we didn't do this one because I don't remember this. I don't remember this definition. I found the one that has Zetetic in the title. Oh, oh is it D-R-A-G-E apostrophe E-E?
Speaker: It's D-R-A-G-E with an umlaut E. E with an umlaut? Yeah. OK, so we did do this one. It was it was it was called. Right. I think that's called an umlaut. Umlaut is the two dots above something. Oh, no, there's the tick above it.
Speaker: Oh, that's just an accent, Mark. Accent. OK, so yeah, because I have Drage McNobody featuring Sean. That was the episode. yeah Oh, that's why. So we we learned that with Sean. I especially don't remember anything if there's a guest in it.
Speaker: Then no, i I don't remember. What is that one? It is a sugar coated nut or candy. I would never got that. You could give me a hundred guesses and I never got. that All right, we're losing. Adam, we're losing.
Speaker: Next up. God, I'm looking at the words in these titles and there's so many that are not ringing them down. All right, Adam, what is a dingle?
Speaker: Oh, damn it. ah Oh, I should know this one. I think I remember dinle is this. Is this the one that has to do with terrain? Yeah, I think so. I think it's just the one where like it's it's like hills like it divots.
Speaker: Was it the divot in hills? I think it. Yeah, I think it's almost like a valley ask thing and like a hill. All right. I think that says what is it? Let look. Hang on. That sounds right. A deep narrow cleft between hills. a shame um Yeah. We remember to dingle. Ah, yeah, okay, okay, we're there. Alright, tied up. We're doing okay.
Speaker: I can tell you now, i'm looking at some of these words. I-sum. Was that pretty? Was it pretty? That's E-Y-E. Yeah, it's literally I-sum. was it pretty like just it's e y and e i yeah it's it's literally i tom Like, isn't it like pleasing to the eye? I think and it it does have something to do. i think that's why the word eye is in it. I think it's something I think you're right. I think it's like.
Speaker: Not something that is person pretty, but like just like a word to look at. Yeah. Something that is just like, yeah, I think visually appealing is probably the right way to put it, but I think it's more specific than that. Relifluously appealing to the eyes. Right.
Speaker: I think I think that's correct, though. I think it's something that is visually appealing or yeah the definition is literally pleasant to look at. OK, I don't use that word more. That was easy. That's a good word.
Speaker: It is. ah Next up, next up, next up. I some.
Speaker: How do I say again? Foydrian for Fodran. Fodroyant. Fodroyant. I remember saying that word.
Speaker: i bet you i had just as much problem then, too. Fruidroyant. Fruidroyant. Here it is. Oh. It is, without looking, I'm trying my hardest not to look at anything I'm not supposed to. It is an adjective.
Speaker: ah Yeah, that's apparent. So you fruidroyantly do something. Yeah, or something is a... It is very fruidroyant. Something is fruidroyant is... It looks like a French word.
Speaker: I remember it like you say. It does definitely have like a French kind of feel to It's like for the way on for joining. It means like I am sorry, French. But dry. It means to.
Speaker: ah Was it it wasn't like belligerently, right? Oh, I don't I don't know. I'm not confident in any word I'll hear with that word. um But I'm going to say for joint. My guess is probably like.
Speaker: I don't know why I'm drawn to something with water. Maybe it's because it looks like hydrant. I don't know. All right. So is this something that's wet? I don't know. I'm not looking. I'm going to say it's something that is wet.
Speaker: i has something say what I'm saying it's kind of got an attitude. Okay. What's it mean?
Speaker: Oh. Striking as with lightning. Sudden and overwhelming in effect. Stunning dazzling. Oh, wow. Something that happens all at once. Alright, that's another for not remembering. Like a fredroyant display.
Speaker: like fredroyant attack. Like a fredroyant dismay I'm feeling at that loss. Say that. A sudden what? It's just something that happens suddenly and overwhelmingly.
Speaker: Wow. Man, that's a good word. Shit. Yeah. Uh... Ebullient.
Speaker: That was one of the ones I did see on the episode list, and I don't... That's one I'm just like, I remember... i remember...
Speaker: Ebullient. Is that wet? but Does something mean wet? Did we learn something? I don't know. Ebullient. Why do you want everything to be wet? I don't know. It just feels like that's another word that if someone said, oh, that's a very ebullient ah pool, I'd be like, yeah, it's very wet.
Speaker: um I mean, i can't I can't help but hear boolean. But I don't think it has anything to do with money. I wish that there was a way for us to get it in a sentence without.
Speaker: I mean, I can point I can look at the sentence, but then you might see the definition. if I do, then it's just up to you. I'll be careful. But I want you to help me. I know. I know.
Speaker: Don't worry. What if I just type in boolean in a sentence? But then, like, you know, ah here example. All right. So the the sentences are way below the actual definition. I can't see either.
Speaker: Like, I can't see the definition at the same time. So... right As the U.S. headed toward its bicentennial in 1976, the mood was far from ebullient. Far from ebullient. Later, the ebullient treat people with kindness saw a giant conga line snaking around the stadium.
Speaker: So is it happy, like, joyous? What's that? As we are reaching the The Bicentennial. mood was far from ebullient. Far from ebullient. It sounds like it's a happy word, but are they saying far from meaning it was the opposite or that they were well above ebullient? No, I would take it as the opposite of. Like the mood was far from happy. The mood was far from ebullient.
Speaker: Because the second sentence is, later the ebullient treat people with kindness saw a giant conga line snaking around the stadium. So that sounds like it's a party. I don't understand that sentence that you just said.
Speaker: Well, treat people with kindness is the name of the group. i see Later, the ebullient group saw a giant conga line snaking around the stadium.
Speaker: ah So maybe they were not happy to be at a party? So if its says it's not happy, you think are from a bullion. I'm going to guess maybe like you're starting to like.
Speaker: ah Nowhere is like you're teeming at the like the edge of like maybe you're angry. Nowhere is sentiment more ebullient than in the options market where volumes have surged, driven in part by the bullish short term bets of retail investors.
Speaker: I'm just going to say maybe you're like starting to bubble over with rage or something. Maybe you're just maybe it's like a last sentence really makes me think it's a negative something. Maybe it's annoyance. Is this the one I was thinking of before where I was like, maybe it's like an attitude or something? Maybe like angry or or just kind of. Yeah, I'm going to say that maybe it's like some level of like anger or annoyance that like someone is feeling. Maybe they're a bullion about something. I don't know. That's all right. That is five points for not remembered.
Speaker: What was it? It is the opposite. It's overflowing with fervor, enthusiasm or excitement. High. They said far from bullion. Yeah, well, maybe it was a bad day.
Speaker: They were far from a bullion. They were so they were bad. They said. Oh, far from bullion. I fucking went the wrong. Oh. I was thinking about how they were feeling, not the word that they use. I went the wrong. It also means it could also mean boiling over like as in a liquid.
Speaker: Oh, well, I said bubbling over. yeah I can't. ah that was my bad for misinterpreting the sentence. I wasn't listening. Fuck. okay sounds so positive. It does. You were like so gung ho that it was negative. was like, OK. How about Glabrius?
Speaker: This, oh, Glabrious means, yes I don't know why this one's in my head. It's like something that is lubricated or slimy or slick or something. I think it means like,
Speaker: I don't want to say slippery. I think it's just, there's like a sheen, like a slick surface to something. Like a Glabrious, um, I don't know, like a Glabrious sidewalk after a rain or or like a Glabrious snake that's got like a slimy Glabrious snake skin.
Speaker: I'm pretty sure it's something like that. All right. Is it spelled G-L-A-B-R-I-O-U-S? It's G-L-A-B-R-O-U-S. Glabrious. Oh, it's Glabrious, not Glabrious? No, it's Glabrious.
Speaker: Oh, I might have spelled that wrong in the episode. I got to see it. I always thought it was Glabrious. Oh, no, I spelled it right. Okay. You're right. It is Glabrous. I still think it's something that it's like shiny or or like not shiny, but like slippery or, or so you know, like I said, s slippery or or or slick or moist. eye All right. Let's be honest. All right. I don't think I can give it to us, but um ah you're close. So I'm going to let you decide as well.
Speaker: Okay. yeah mean Where am I off? It's an adjective. It is an adjective. To describe like how something looks or feels, right? It is an adjective about
Speaker: being smooth.
Speaker: It's a surface a surface of something. I don't know why I'm associating it with like something that's slick. or like I think like a snakeskin, which like might be like so like like your hand can move along it very easily.
Speaker: What's the definition?
Speaker: ah It is having a surface devoid of hair. That's it? It's like a smooth, but it's skin. It's Oh, man, I give my I give me at least a half. It's skin.
Speaker: But that's why I was like, you're you're close. I'm like, I'll let you help decide on whether we get this. I'd say we get I say it's a point five on either side. OK, point five. Damn, I was so certain I had something to with like, because I was thinking of a snake and it might be because I remember thinking a snake skin is probably smooth.
Speaker: But I think I also thought because it's wet or that it's like slick. Damn, I was so close. Shit. All right. So confident in that. Fuck. Elevenses. Elevenses.
Speaker: That's just like second breakfast or eating another time, isn't it? Yeah, it was like another lunch or something. Yeah, it's like another. Yeah, it's another meal. um Like a later meal than breakfast, but before lunch or.
Speaker: Yeah, what is it? Just a morning break. It's it's brunch. Mid-morning snack. Yeah, we're all over it. I think that's fair to say. We got it. We got that one. Five. All right, we're tied up. Five and a half on each. We have five and a half.
Speaker: ah the the Foozle! Foozle, if I remember correctly, because that's F-O-O-Z-L, right? L-E. F-O-O-Z-L-E, sorry.
Speaker: Um... Fuzal means, and I think the reason I have an idea of what this is, because I remember when I used this in the titles. What was the title?
Speaker: if I don't have it in front of me yet, but like I have a couple up. There's like five episodes up, um and they have it's Fard, Zetetic, Dragea, Bulliant, and Dingle, which we haven't gotten to.
Speaker: We got to Dingle, yes. Oh, no, we did do dude Dingle. um But I but thinking about the episode titles, because I was hoping to use them in ways that would help me remember what they were. um And I think I think for Foozel, I put like Danny Foozel, the yurt of the way.
Speaker: oh is it like messing up? Like you fuck something up, like you make a mistake or you you you. Yeah, it's something about like you make some kind of mistake or you make an error. OK. It's something like that. it's a I believe it's a verb.
Speaker: Like you foozle something. To bungle. Play clumsily. yeahp Yeah, i like to just drop the ball. yeah yeah You fucked it up, son. You foozled it up. Yeah. Let's go, foozle! Six and a half. maybe b ah Elatricus.
Speaker: Oh. How does that spell? remember this word. U-L-O-T-R-I-C-H-O-U-S. Oh, man.
Speaker: U-L-O-T-R-I-C-H-O-U-S? Ullotricus. Yes. Boy, Zencaster doesn't even recognize that as a word if I spelled it right. Um... Gosh, I don't even know. I mean, it clearly it sounds like it's an adjective.
Speaker: um It is an adjective. Because I don't think you can Ullotricus things. O-U-S is typically an adjective form of something. Let's see. Example sentences. Ullotricus. Um...
Speaker: Man, i don't even I don't even have a guess for that one. One point to be noted is that this early population was Eulatricus. That doesn't help. That does not help.
Speaker: ah
Speaker: I'm not even going to try and pronounce this. Group of Malaysia were a dark-skinned and Eulatricus people who had neither a fear of ghosts or the dead or a Maine's cult, but had a cult of local spirits.
Speaker: i was going to say someone's gonna stay practical, but maybe... Yeah, does it mean like not very religious or spiritual? No, but this sentence says that they had neither a fear of ghosts or dead, but they did have a cult of local spirits.
Speaker: Yeah, maybe it just means like a very logical people. Yeah, that's the best I got. Either that or someone who is spiritual. I don't know. Belonging to a group of people having woolly or crisp curly hair.
Speaker: Oh, well, those context clues didn't help us at all. That sentence is stupid, dictionary.com. All right. Woof. Wow.
Speaker: Wow. ah Sally Forth. Sally forth means to like, that's like a gung ho attitude. It means to press on, right? thing Isn't that what that means?
Speaker: it's like so Is it a verb? use It is a verb. You sally forth. You sally forth. But I mean, we're right. It's to set off in a sudden energetic manner. Like just sally forth. sally forth. Excellent. All right, cool. All right, we got that one. Yeah, some of them I had picked way back in the day just because I liked them. That's fine. That's fine.
Speaker: We didn't know we were going to play a game. Vim. Which is like, if I remember right, it's like your life force, like VIM. i don't even remember that we did that. I think is like... Yeah, that's the common pairing.
Speaker: i think I think it was like determination or like just you're gung-ho again. Vim. um I feel like there's a an element to that that we're missing. Like Vim is like and energetic.
Speaker: Yeah, I think vigor means like you're... youre Awake, you have energy and everything. Vim is like you're enthusiastic about using it. You're full of vim and vigor.
Speaker: Like piss and vinegar. But good. Sure. sure is a noun. a healthy capacity for vim. Energy and enthusiasm.
Speaker: You've got vim, then you probably put a little extra oomph in your life. Yeah. All right. Piss and vinegar. No. Vim and vigor. Vim and vinegar.
Speaker: Vim and vinegar. oh all right. Here's a classic. Here's a classic.
Speaker: Bumfuzzle.
Speaker: Bumfuzzle. Bumfuzzle. I remember that. i I don't remember the word. Or like the definition, but I remember bum fuzzle. It's spelled the way it sounds, right? Yes. Is it like to confuse?
Speaker: it definitely feels like it's a bamboozle kind of word. It is a verb. You bum fuzzle somebody. Yeah, I think bum fuzzling is to trick or to confuse. Yeah, I agree. I think it's like some sort of prank or or a way to. um Yeah, to confuse or fluster. Yeah.
Speaker: Nine and a half. yeah Yeah. Let's go. Let's go. All right. All right. All right. All right. We're getting near the end. You enjoying this, listeners, that we're winning? Six more.
Speaker: Six more. All to play for. Whoa. Whoa. What the fuck this word? Hang on. I need to say. I of want to find it in the episode list to see if I can guess which one it is.
Speaker: Is it Commodious? It is not Commodious. Oh, damn. I actually don't have that on here. You don't have Commodious on there? No. How do you spell it? We can do it right now. C-O-M-M-O-D-I-O-U-S.
Speaker: And I think I know what it means. Yeah, I'm fine with having just a free point. What is Commodious? Now, I'm pretty sure Commodious means like something that is spacious, like a Commodious room.
Speaker: Spacious and convenient. Yep. Yeah. Hell yeah. I think I remember that because I tied it to the word commode and I felt like a spacious bathroom. Yeah.
Speaker: all right. all right. I'm going to need you to type this one out so that I can copy and paste it. Hit me. A.M.A. Ask me anything. Ask you anything. N.U.
Speaker: E.N.S.I.S. Say again. A.M.A. Did we do that word? I don't remember. A-M-A-N-U-E-N-S-I-S. I s on hi prince don't think that made it into an episode. That doesn't ring a bell at all.
Speaker: Okay. Hang on. Let me scroll through because I put every single one, as long as we did word of the day, into an episode title.
Speaker: Oh, I don't know, man. I think I remember. I looked it up. I think I remember this definition. I think we did do this. Are you sure? yeah and think so. But I don't see it in the episode titles.
Speaker: Oh, maybe we didn't. Maybe I picked it, but we never actually did it. All right. Any guesses? It is a noun. That's a noun? It's a noun. It looks like a verb or an adjective. Yes.
Speaker: That's a noun? Well, it's not. and So you have one? not S-O-U-S. Oh. U-E-N-S-I-S. Oh, shit. Hang on. Manuensis. Emanuensis like that.
Speaker: Yes. Oh, OK. That's OK. That makes more sense. I was going to say, oh, you s is almost all. Yeah, I spelled it wrong. Sorry. Emanuensis me is a. um
Speaker: I'm going to say it's.
Speaker: It's aura, it's your when you're farming aura, you're farming Emanuensis.
Speaker: OK, I'll give you a hint. I'll give you a hint. Is that not it? Obviously, no. but Obviously, you don't know the word. We never did it. It is a job title. Oh, is it like a judge?
Speaker: Is that your final answer? Yeah. Is it a judge? No. so like and I'm not going count it against us because we never did this word. I don't see it anywhere. But it is a person employed to take diction or copy manuscripts.
Speaker: So when you dictate your manuscript, that is the person that's writing it. If we did that, we must have done it as an extra one in an episode. Because I do not have it on the list.
Speaker: It could be that I just remember finding it. We might not have actually done it. No, we didn't. I mean, I don't see it anywhere in here. so i don't That's a freebie for all you at home. Yeah, it didn't make the cut. Amenuensis. Didn't make the cut.
Speaker: Scrofluous. I do remember getting that word. That one is one we definitely did. yes Scrofluous. Scrofluous. Hold on. Scrofluous. I found it.
Speaker: Oh, did I spell it wrong in this? Well, it is scrofluous. If you spelled it wrong, then I spelled it wrong. Scrofluous. No, it is scrofluous. You're right. S-C-R-O-F-U-L-O-U-S. lot of L-O-U-S's in this It's an adjective as said by Scrofluous.
Speaker: Do you have any liar and do you have any recollection of that? Is it like a liar? Like you're a scrofulous type of person?
Speaker: i don't I don't have any recollection of what this could be. I don't scrofulous. Do you want me try and get the the sentences up? It's just going to say you're a scrofulous type of person. Yeah, just going to say, oh, what a scrofulous thing. ah The episode title that I have is a scrofulous knee slap.
Speaker: And I don't know if those words actually belong together, because that's not how I did the titles most the time, but... I did find you lot. But there was nevertheless a certain suggestion of holding court.
Speaker: Visitors queued up to be transformed by art, like the Scrofulous awaiting the king's touch. To be poor? Does Scrofulous just mean to lack something?
Speaker: To be lacking, to be poor, to be downtrodden? I don't know. I can see that. Yeah, what does it mean? I could see that being the case. Pertaining to resembling of the nature of or afflicted with Scrofula. Thanks, guys. Wow.
Speaker: Wow. Morally tainted, morally degraded. ah We were way off. Yeah, that we can't get morally tainted definition is just to have scrofulous. Oh, wow. graulla Okay, great. Scrofulous to be scrofulous means to be morally tainted. That's what it says. So we have a scroful.
Speaker: We have a government that is more than scrofulous at this point.
Speaker: What's the next level to that? What's the evolved third evolved form of scrofulous being evil? yeah At that point, we're just that evil. It's just malicious is what it is yeah right Cartoonishly so. What's next? Did we ever do Klepsydra?
Speaker: Klepsydra we do have, yes. Klepsydra.
Speaker: Klepsydra. I thought that word was Klepsahydra when I read it, but it's just Klepsydra, which is really upsetting. It's Klepsydra. Klepsydra.
Speaker: Oh, it's a drug. You take Klepsidra.
Speaker: It will cure your headache, but it might give you the runs, constipation, a stroke, heart attack. Yeah. Is it a noun? It sounds like it's a noun. It is noun. you have a You can have a Klepsidra.
Speaker: ah Either slow like the dripping of the remnants of water in a Klepsidra. oh it's it's an Oh, it's an object we haven't heard of before. that It's coming back to me with that sentence. It's a... It's... Ah, it's coming back to Oh, is it?
Speaker: oh It's a shape of something. It's something shaped, interestingly. It serves a specific purpose. Yeah, is it like a... It's like like a water...
Speaker: Yeah, it's... Did it something to do with water? Yes. Well, yeah, Hydra. Yes. Well, it's Klepsydra. It sounds like Hydra. Or Klepsydra. Yeah, I think it's some sort of container that funnels water in a certain way.
Speaker: um I don't know why, but my brain's thinking of an hourglass, but with water. and I don't think that's it. Is it like... It it was a scientific tool? might It might be.
Speaker: ah scientific tool that Measures water, moves water. This would, however, be imperceptible as long as their lengths were not measured by some accurate mechanical time measurer such as a kleia klepsidra, sandglass, pendulum. Oh, is it a clock?
Speaker: Oh, maybe I was onto something when I said it's like ah it's like an hourglass, but with water. An ancient device for measuring time using the regulated flow of water or mercury through a small aperture. Oh, so was right. going to give you literally said, think it's like a water hourglass.
Speaker: Hey, I'm taking you know what? I think that's what I think that's valid. I'm taking i'm taking it. All right. All right. I think I don't know why, but I pictured it to be in the shape of an hourglass, but with water. And I don't know if it actually is, but that's what my brain thinks it looks like.
Speaker: Kafka's Kafkaesque Kafkaesque. Kafkaesque. That one is OK. Oh, man. I know how to say it in a sentence. It's like, oh, Danny did this thing in an and a Kafkaesque kind of way. Esk is meant to be like... It's literally a bureaucratic Kafkaesque nightmare.
Speaker: and so kafka I'm trying to think of what Kafka was famous for because... Is it like um inefficient?
Speaker: No, I think... I mean, i don't want to say no for sure because I can't coherently say what... it's I'm trying to think of the connotation like... you'd say It's like something that's very... confuing Not confusing, but like... What's the word I'm looking for? Where there's a lot of like random steps or seemingly... like
Speaker: Different crazy directions one can take something to get something done. So you do it in like a a Kafka-esque way, where it's like not a straightforward way to do something, but it's a very overly... Overly complicated? Complicated way, I think. It's something like that. Like... um um It's like cleverly, it's like clever yet overly complicated or something. I can't.
Speaker: What the hell is the word I'm trying to think of? Ah. Redundance. Like it has a lot of redundance in it. I don't know. And the way that I think about it, it doesn't sound like it's like a ah negative.
Speaker: It's just like an absorb observation of like, oh, wow, you did that in a very Kafkaesque kind of way. Like about. you Yeah. Like, yeah. Like you did it in like a a weird, like you did it though. Like it's in a very, I think something to tell me, like, I feel like Kafka is like a writer or something.
Speaker: And they just wrote in very not, I'm just going to say, like I think our adjectives combined. I think it's a roundabout, con you do something in a roundabout and confusing kind of way.
Speaker: Okay. I don't know. That's the best I got. Relating to, characteristic of, or resembling the literary work of Franz Kafka, marked by a senseless, disorienting, often menacing complexity.
Speaker: Right. Complex is the word I was looking for. So like it's full of redundancies. It's complex, overly complicated. Like I maybe I missed the menacing part, but I know that when more modernly, when something's done a Kafkaesque way, it's just like you did that in such a weird, random kind of way, but you did it.
Speaker: you know And it says often menacing, not always. Right, okay. I so i feel like we got it. for us I'm going to say we got Kafkaesque. We absolutely did, and guess what? If you disagree, tell us in the comments right up in the show.
Speaker: Let us know that you disagree. is that how you spell it? Did I spell it right? K-A-F-K-A-E-S-Q-U-E. Yeah. You got the F and the K mixed up.
Speaker: Oh, fuck. I put cack for ask. Fuck. You put cack for that. Like cack for it's kick for shit. All right. We can do this. Mendacious. I remember learning it, but it sounds bad. for This one at all. It is an adjective.
Speaker: Is it spelled like a sounds M-E-N-D-A-C-I-O-U-S? M-E-N-D-A-C-I-O-U-S. Yep. Mendacious. That's like salacious. Like Paui Mendel.
Speaker: Fergalicious. It is. Mendacious. I'm going to say mendacious is like, I'm trying to see um if it has like a similar, because we have a lot of us's, OUS's in this.
Speaker: Mendacious. You're a mendacious kind of person. Right. Maybe mendacious means like someone who is convincing. Um, if something is mendacious, it is.
Speaker: Boring. i don't know. and don't really have a strong guess.
Speaker: Like the episode title that I have for it is I just had it up in front of me. Fuck, where is it? A mendaciously dumb smarty pants is i have is the title. So that doesn't really help. Mendacious. Dumb.
Speaker: Again, I don't know if the words when I put them together are actually right or if you would find them that way. Mandacious. feel like it's somebody who can't keep their story straight. Like they're amending it all the time.
Speaker: Does that make sense? men Like someone who talks in tongues and riddles. Or like they lie a lot so they can't keep a straight story. You know, you've been trying to push the word like someone who lies times. We should just go with that as the, let's just say that someone who is ah ah not a truth teller, someone who bends the the truth. Okay.
Speaker: A mendacious person is someone who often skirts around the truth. Holy shit. Telling lies, especially habitually dishonest. lie Good shit, Danny. I knew it would come around. I knew it buried in there somewhere.
Speaker: Good shit. ah Yeah. Like, asius just sounds like it's a negative and I just can never like salacious. All right. Here's the final word. I have other ones that we haven't done yet. So.
Speaker: Okay. Go ahead. Here's my final word. Ergotocracy. Ergotocracy. Ergotocracy. Is
Speaker: Ergotocracy. Maybe it's like the word ergonomics. Right. i was thinking the same thing. Ergonomics. Maybe it's like pleasing to the person. Like it's comfortable or it's well suited. Ergotocracy is a government run exclusively by the collective.
Speaker: You think that's what it is? I don't I don't know. I was just trying to sound. I know. i know the term ergonomics is like a made up term.
Speaker: Oh, so an ergotocracy made up fucking government like it's just made up by Maybe run by a puppet king. An ergotocracy.
Speaker: Yeah, I assume it's a government. I can't think of how you'd use that word, ocracy. I mean, it's got to be it's got to be like a government or a royalty thing, right? Maybe a government made up to disguise what it actually is. I like how whenever we think of government, we don't even think good things anymore.
Speaker: It can only puppet. Because there ain't none, brother. it can only be a puppet or designed to fuck people without them knowing or like... There's never like, maybe it's a government that helps people. No, it doesn't exist.
Speaker: No, we don't have those. We don't have those here. All right. So what do you think? ah I think it's it's made up. It's like a made up government. Sure. I think I think you make a good point about how ergonomic is like just like a made up word.
Speaker: Yeah. was A rare government by the workers. Oh, I was almost right when I said it was run by the people. Fuck. All Fuck. 13.5 to 8.5. We're winning.
Speaker: We're winning. Now it's time for you to take it away. OK, so I don't have the definitions in front of me, but there's I'm trying to find words that we didn't use. So I'm going to go through the episode listings that I have.
Speaker: Actually, I found several. So Janik, do you remember Janik? Nope. J-A-N-N-O-C-K. That was one of the earliest ones that we learned.
Speaker: J-A-N-N-O-C-K? Yeah, that was't that was an episode that we had Kimmy in. Oh, here it is. Okay. It is ah an adjective. Janik.
Speaker: Gosh. Okay, we won with All can think of is Repo's McJanik Station. Well, the episode title is Janik Educational Movie. And again, I don't know that has anything to do.
Speaker: I don't know if Ergotocracy was in any of our episode titles. That's weird, because i definitely remember doing Ergotocracy.
Speaker: and Unless, like, there was... a time where I didn't put the words in the titles, but. Janik is one of the earliest ones, and that's in there. OK. What if we never put one if that was another one that we just talked about, but like never.
Speaker: Maybe. Because, yeah, I don't I don't have that in one of my titles. I don't have ergotocracy, but I do remember talking about it. It might have been one where where you're like, oh, I was also going to do this and then we just did it. Yeah, maybe.
Speaker: Because we we started putting episode titles with the words that we learned. Susurus was the first one. Susurus was the first word we did. When Falcon came on.
Speaker: Yeah. Two years ago. um God, we've been doing this for that long already. Yeah. God. um So yeah, Janik.
Speaker: Janik, I'm going to guess, means like It's an adjective. It's an adjective that means something that is. um I want to say like high energy almost.
Speaker: Oh, that's good. I was going to say I was trying to attribute it to sports and I don't know why my brain went to sports. I'm thinking i'm like jittery almost. I can see that like a Janik saying is like very like, hey, man, how are you doing? All right. wow Do you have it up in front of you? I do.
Speaker: What it? not looking at it. What is it? ah No. It's honest, fair, and straightforward. Alright. We didn't get that one. Fuck! ah Well, let's go to Susaris since that was the first one.
Speaker: So Sussurus, if I recall, because this one has a very like surreptitious sound, I'm pretty sure it has something to do with like a whisper or a faint sound like do you spell it again.
Speaker: S-U-S-U-R-R-U-S. It's got the word suss right in it.
Speaker: And I'm pretty sure that's one of the ones that I remember. It's something to do because this word itself sounds sneaky. Like you hear a fa- like a susuris of a noise. It is a noun.
Speaker: Right. A susuris. Oh, was this like the- the breathy kind of whispered? it's Yeah, it's something that's like a soft sound or- It's sounding. Yeah. Or like a whisper or like ah a rustling of something.
Speaker: Yes, I'm pretty sure that's it Like the susuris leaves you know blowing across the ground. it's like a a soft cacophony almost. Yeah. A lot of noise, but it's all very soft. It has to do with a low-sounding noise. I know that much. It has to be.
Speaker: A soft murmuring or rustling sound, a whisper. Yeah! Let's go. That's the first one I remember. That's the first one that we did. Fuck yeah. Let's go. All right, keep going. What else you got? Um...
Speaker: You know what? There are a couple in here that I have. ah Like Dixon and Dax were in that, like, I don't know if we did the words of the day or if we did, I didn't put them in the titles.
Speaker: There's a good chance that because we had four guests in a row, we had Dax, Dixon, Smosis and Nexu and Makoto all in a row. We had ah a lot of guests for a bit there. And we didn't have any ah words of the day and of those episode titles. So maybe... Maybe that's what we did, Dom.
Speaker: So maybe that's where some of those ones that we learned that we don't remember might be in. if you Listeners, go back and listen to those episodes. Go listen to every episode we've ever done and let us know what episode they're in. Here's the episode titles. um No Nut Brownies with Dax.
Speaker: Hot Metal Sticks with Dixon. There's Blinking At Cats with Smosis. There's Big Shooketh by Veltzmerz, which is another one of our words. Um, Velt Schmerz. Do you remember that? No, but I remember it's a word.
Speaker: Velt Schmerz is one that we did with, so that's one that we did put the title in. And then there's one called the Tony Stark of emotional growth with Makoto.
Speaker: felt Man, I have some good titles on here. Um, Velt Schmerz, I think is a sadness. It's a sort of like, it's definitely German. Yeah. Velt Schmerz, I think as a German word, that means you feel,
Speaker: a certain level of like melancholy, maybe. um i don't know why, but that's the feeling I get. And I don't know. I don't have any explanation other than just it feels that way.
Speaker: But also I can see it being like, oh he's full of Weltschmerz. Like, it's a good thing. Well, apparently there's a helmet called the Velmet and it's spelled Weltschmerz. It's a yeah, it's spelled Weltschmerz. Yeah. W-E-L-T-S-C-H-M-E-R-T-Z.
Speaker: Yeah, I got it here. I think it's I want to say it's like melancholic. It's either mellow. It's it's it's a it's a heavy feeling of emotion, either something big and happy or so or sad. Well, I can't remember which ah you need to pick one.
Speaker: What do you think? I think sad. OK, then again, I'm going to say it's a bad feeling. It's like a feeling of melancholy. Sorrow that one feels and accepts as one necessary portion in life, a sentimental pessimism.
Speaker: Sure. I'm going to say we got it. That's like ah um it's it's it's a gloomy sign. Fuck yeah. Let's go. OK. All right. Next up. um Next one is. Rizzable. How did we not have Rizzable on the list?
Speaker: Oh, do you remember Rizzable? I mean, I remember what Rizz is. and and And the thing is, is I think was I remember in a Monty Python skit when they're trying the biggest dickest skit.
Speaker: I remember the general when he's saying the name is soldiers are laughing and he goes, is it Rizzable to you? And I think Rizzable means something that's funny or humorous.
Speaker: Pretty sure that's what that means. Yes, having, yeah, causing or capable of causing laughter. Yes, is that the risible? Did I say something risible? Did I say something risible? It's something like that. I can't remember the full quote, but I remember that word. Okay. All right.
Speaker: Next one. This one, you seemed really gung-ho about in the episode. It was Cavill. You remember Cavill?
Speaker: C-A-V-I-L? I'm pretty sure it's ever verb. Cavill Henry Cavill Henry. and i And I remember it's a verb and it's like you you do it about some a subject like you.
Speaker: It's like you complain, maybe like you cavil about work or you cavil about. yeah cause i remember i don't remember what we talked about in the episode, but I feel like you and i really went back and forth on this one now.
Speaker: It's a noun. It's noun. Are you sure it's not also a verb? ah Damn, I really thought that I had it. I thought that you cavil about something. Or you cavil to something.
Speaker: Shit. Oh, no, it is a verb. Wait. Do you have Cavill? it either or I guess it can be... Oh, I don't remember it as a noun. think it can a Cavill if you Cavill about things. You could be a Cavill about something. You're right. You're right.
Speaker: I think it means to complain. A complainer. i could be wrong. Do you remember Cavill? I do, actually. And I remember... my God. I think it had something to do with Cavalier.
Speaker: What it mean to be cavalier about something? Well, to be cavalier is to be like really like for something like you're really en energy. Like he's very cavalier about going to the to the football game.
Speaker: He's very cavalier about how he feels in politics. So maybe about that, like it's just being very. I don't know, because cavalier has it it's its own word. You know.
Speaker: right. And I think it's French. You say. I'm not 100% solid on this, but I'm pretty sure to Cavill or to be a Cavill is a negative thing. I think it means like you complain or you have a disdain for something or you're just bitching about it. Like i you are absolutely right to raise trivial and frivolous objection.
Speaker: Oh, it's trivial. It's even better to just be pedantic as shit. It's even better instead of complain just to complain. That is so much better.
Speaker: It is just being a petty piece of crap. just being a petty piece of shit. Don't be a Cavill this year. Don't be a Cavill this year. Hey, hey, Henry Cavill, I know you're listening to the show. hey You're good. Don't worry about it. You're fine. what are we up? 14, 9, 15? No, we're at 17 to 9. Oh, yeah. We're crushing it. I knew we were going to do all right at this.
Speaker: um Let me see what else I have. um We did Fard, we did Zetetic, we did Dingle, Isom, Budroyant, Gleyberus, Elevensies, Foozled, Eulatricus, Sally Forth, Bumfuzzled, Scrofulous, Klepsidra, Kafkaesque, Mendacious... I know there was the one word we did was like... Oh, Architocracy was in a title, I found it, we did do that, sorry. I know there was one we did that was like...
Speaker: To keep somebody in conversation. i already don't remember what the word was. Oh, that that is... um I know that one. That one is buttonhole. Buttonhole. I'm giving that to us because we remembered the definition first.
Speaker: Yeah. eighteen 18. There's one that I have called a fat verbal twirl, and I don't know why. is that when we stopped doing... am i the Word in the day? Or did we just not do... We also have six-finger income, and that one doesn't have a word in it.
Speaker: There's cockamamie, which I think we know. Did we not do did we do cockamamie as a word? It's in the title. Oh, maybe we did. it Oh, no, wait. Or may or was that?
Speaker: i think that was the episode where you were sharing about like a fortune you got about meeting someone whose name started with an M. Oh, yeah, back in the day. I don't know if cockamamie was the word.
Speaker: Or if... I don't know if we should count it, because I don't know if I just put that in there, or if cockamamie was a word that we learned in that episode. Fuck. Yeah, I don't remember. We'll skip it. Oh, I don't remember. Did I write anything in the title?
Speaker: Nope, I just wrote, Danny learned about his marriage to his wife from a fortune teller, allegedly. That's all I wrote. Allegedly? You dick. Past Adam's funny. Past Adam's kind of a dick.
Speaker: Oh, here's one. Killer Diller. o Do you remember Killer Diller? Because I don't. That sounds like a, like, 60s... sounds like an actor.
Speaker: Like Phyllis Killer Diller.
Speaker: It sounds to me like, Hey, Killer Diller, what's going on? What's happening? What's the... Yeah, yeah, yeah. Killer Diller. It's a movie from 2004. Yeah.
Speaker: God, man, I wanted to know because it sounds like an old like twenty s Like, hi I kill a dealer. to say killer dealer means something that's fun. That's I don't know why, but my brain thinks like, oh, man, that was such a killer dealer experience. Wow.
Speaker: Wow. I'm giving it to us just because this. It's an old fashioned American slang term. And what does it mean? Dating back to the 1930s that describes a person or a thing that is outstanding, sensational or highly exciting.
Speaker: Oh, I was so close. It wasn't funny. It's just something someone that's cool. I'm giving it to us because we immediately picked up on it being slang. It does sound like a like old old slang and being like happy. And do you remember at one point we stopped doing words of the day and we I started doing like decades of. Yes, you started doing like slang stuff. Yeah, because there's another one. It's dirty Alan.
Speaker: Oh, do you remember dirty Alan? Wasn't that just somebody who's like untrustworthy? ah Yeah, I think it's like a bad dude or someone that like is underhanded.
Speaker: Yeah, I think kind of character. I'm type in dirty Alan and see. Boy, we're doing all right. Let's see. um A guy named Alan who needs to take a shower. It's a bird, but it was. Oh, it's just a bird.
Speaker: It's a bird. It's a bird. Like any bird. It's a it's a it's a bird. it's a It's an old regional name for the parasitic Jaeger or the Arctic Skua, a seabird known for stealing food from other birds.
Speaker: So I guess you could call someone a dirty Alan to be like... You're a thieving rat, you dirty Alan. Hang on. Let me make sure that there's like another...
Speaker: ah like a use for it if there's like... um
Speaker: Let's see. See meaning and uses. I don't want to subscribe to read your stupid but thing. Eat shit, Oxford owned.
Speaker: It's just a parasitic Jaeger. It's all it is. It just it's just the bird. Fantastic. It's like a bread a very vibrant red a bird with a black head and like some green on its wings.
Speaker: um Fucking Alan. Yeah, it's just it's just the bird. It's just a dirty Alan. It's just a dirty Alan. It's all it is. Yep. um All right. Let's see.
Speaker: Umble come stumble. Oh, you remember that one? Because that one I do know. I remember the word. i don't remember what the hell it means. um What ah kind of a word is it?
Speaker: Umble come stumble comes from like when
Speaker: I believe it came from like peasant people who thought they were understanding a word. They thought they were, they were getting a word. So it's what they thought they heard. um Like bone apple tea.
Speaker: like Kind of like that. And I'll say that I accidentally kind of just told you the definition. Okay. Well, I'm pretty sure umble come stumble. If I, if, if it's, if I'm remembering properly, I think to um, umble come stumble is like a peasantry way that they thought was the word understand or understandable.
Speaker: It was like, I umble come stumble what you're saying. Oh, that actually reminds me. There was another word that we did. I remember the definition was like a fake word put into a dictionary. I know what it was. It was Mount Weasel.
Speaker: Yes. That's another one for us. um but To humble come stumble was a 19th century slang phrase that means to understand something. Or to say, I got it.
Speaker: to you ah You said it was a misremembering or mishearing. No, I said it was what people said because they probably thought that's what the word was. Right. So a misunderstanding of the word, but this is just slang.
Speaker: Well, it's it's not slang. It's what they would say to each other.
Speaker: Right. I'll give it to the other.5. I'll give it the other.5. All right, fine. But that's like how they understood it was like. They're like, oh, that's the word. Dumble comes stumble. Because what I'm hearing is.
Speaker: whether it was purposeful or not. Like, right. That's fair. They purposely say it as slang like, oh, yeah, man, I am i think eventually. Yes. I think eventually. Yes, that was it was just they would say it because that was just what they said.
Speaker: Like, yeah, I am what comes down with you. That's yeah, Mount Weasel is the word you're looking for. like such a hard thing to say as like a slang.
Speaker: It is. It takes a lot more. Usually slang is something you can say quicker than the original word. Mm hmm. But to like have to stop and be like, humble come stumble. Yeah. Like you can't just kind of glide that word through your mouth. It's not a very.
Speaker: It's not an easy word to just throw out there. No, it's it's really not a mellifluous word. No, it's.
Speaker: I had to click back into my list find it again. sound like a real Dirty Allen when you try to say it. exactly um Wow. Okay, so I think that's the last one that I have. um I mean, we've done 31 of them.
Speaker: No, we've done 32 of them. What's our score? What's our final tally?
Speaker: do i don't even know if Dirty Allen and Unbecome Stumble should count. I think they were just we were doing slangs at the time, but... Do not remember has a score of 10. Okay.
Speaker: Remember has a score of 21. Okay. 10. okay
Speaker: So wait, so that makes 31 total. Well, 32 because two of them were 0.5s.
Speaker: Oh, how do I factor in that percentage? Oh, no, actually, wait a minute, because we gave the 0.5 to both.
Speaker: Take out the.5s and let's just go with whole numbers. Take out the.5s, so that would be 20 to 9. 20 to 9? So let's say there's... So it's 29. 29, so it would be... twenty nine so it would be 20 divided by 29 gives us a 69%.
Speaker: Nice. nice that Yeah, that sounds right. Fuck yeah, dude. That sounds right for us. Technically, i must say it is.689, which rounded up is 69%. Same difference. That's why rounding exists.
Speaker: Yes. That's awesome. Okay. And I think probably at that point five with that.5, with that.5, we'd probably get the 69 anyway. All right, let's go through them one more time. No, thank you all so much for listening. today Thank you for listening. It's been a dream come true to learn all of these words with all of you.
Speaker: um And, you know, to to know that you're here to learn with us and to that Danny and I have a better memory. Don't be a terrible piece of shit this year.
Speaker: Yeah, don't be a definitely don't be Cavill. don't be a Cavill piece of shit. Yeah, just don't. But also, I love you and thank you for listening. Yeah. And we're at an hour. 59 come true. I know got to stop before two hours.
Speaker: Oh, is that what we're going for? Yeah. Are we going for the 159.59? Yeah. let's We'll see after I hit the button, though, if it just rounds it up to two hours. Oh, don't do that to us. You have to keep it under two hours. That way Zencast doesn't get mad at me. Ready? ready So we do it now. We have 20 seconds left. We could. Or we could do it at 159.59 and read the Zencast episode. That's fine. Well, you better say something to the people. right. Well, thank you all very much for listening. I am going to talk to you in a sweet droning kind of voice for the next 15 seconds. No, no. You have to do less than 15 seconds. Now going to do It's only been 10 seconds left. Oh, my God. Eight seconds. Oh, my God. Okay. Thank you all for listening. We love you all so much. Bye. Countdown to count 100. And 100.
Speaker: and and by yeah
