Introduction to Podcast & NFL Week 3 Highlights
00:00:01
Speaker
Welcome back, everyone, to a new edition of the Boise Boys podcast with Dawson Danner and Mario Edwards. We're back to give a little breakdown on week three of the NFL season. And damn, was it a good one?
Shocking NFL Week 3 Upsets
00:00:15
Speaker
Just all types of games that were just shocking, including some shocking upsets, top teams going down like the Ravens losing to the Colts, the Cowboys.
00:00:28
Speaker
a very shocking upset losing the Cardinals and then the Jaguars kind of getting blown out by the Texans, which was weird. And then, you know, you got a lot of the top teams taking care of business, the Chiefs and Bills blowing out their opponents, as well as the Eagles on Monday night taking care of Tampa Bay. Yes, sir. It's been a crazy week, dude.
Dolphins' Historic Game: Did They Miss a Record?
00:00:51
Speaker
Honestly, I was, I mean, just coming out of it, seeing the Dolphins putting up 70 points.
00:00:57
Speaker
That is freaking crazy. I've never seen that. I saw that score. I was like, is this Madden we're watching here? Did you, did you watch that game at all? I did. And I actually have a question for you about that. They had the ball with a little under two minutes to go in field goal range. And if they kicked a field goal, it would have been the most points scored in NFL history. And Mike McDaniel chose to take a knee to
00:01:25
Speaker
kind of roll out the clock up 50, 70 to 20. What would you have done in that situation? Oh man, that's tough. That's a classy move by McDaniels. Just kind of, I mean, at that point, that's just rubbing it in. That's like shooting threes on a fast break in basketball when there's five seconds left and you're up by 30. I mean, that's, that's tough. I mean, for the record though, I mean, you're already in 70 points deep. You're already embarrassing them. I say, I say kick the field goal.
00:01:51
Speaker
That's just me. I mean, at that point, I mean, what do you think? Do you think would you do the same thing or would you take the class you're out? Dude, I would go for the record. Are you kidding me? Yeah. But at the same time, like you said, dude, imagine Sean Payton on the other side down 50 points.
Broncos' Struggles & Sean Payton's Impact
00:02:10
Speaker
They just hung a 70 burger on you. And if he kicked
00:02:16
Speaker
field goal, a meaningless field goal. I would have been pissed if I was Sean Payton, but if I'm Mike McDaniel, I'm going hell yeah, let's get that record. Yeah, definitely. I mean, anyways, it's Sean Payton. I'm going to say that guy's been kind of a
00:02:29
Speaker
I don't know, he's came out with some kind of mean comments and kind of said some things here and there this whole off season about the previous Broncos head coach. I don't know if you remember those comments and he said, he's like, this was just a disaster. I can't believe he did this and that. And no, it was a little karma. I thought, I mean, dolphins are looking good, but I'm not going to say I wasn't happy that it wasn't them.
00:02:51
Speaker
Yeah, yeah. But I mean, like, what is up with the Broncos, though? Because you look at it, you know, you got a, you know, obviously a great quarterback, like, you know, Russell Wilson, and something's not clicking. Do you know what's going on over there? Dude, I am kind of mind blown myself because the Broncos were
00:03:10
Speaker
Honestly, my dark horse team to have a comeback year and possibly make a playoff for him, you know, with Sean Payton coming in, I thought that Nathaniel Hackett, the job he did last year was, was pretty piss poor with Russell Wilson his first year. And I thought bringing in that.
00:03:27
Speaker
a very, you know, valuable coach like Sean Payton, he could turn things around in Denver, but it just isn't looking like the case. And I don't know what it is with Russell Wilson, man, but since he's gotten there, he looks like a deer in the headlights. Yeah, I don't, I don't know what it is. I mean, they have good receivers surrounding them. They got, you know, they got Judy,
Cowboys' Defeat & Cardinals' Surprising Performance
00:03:47
Speaker
they got Sutherland. Um,
00:03:49
Speaker
I just don't know. I mean, you know, that's all, also they got Trevante Williams, you know, as the running back. I mean, I just don't, I don't see what's not clicking. I mean, I guess something on the defensive end obviously, if you're getting, you know, 70 points put on your, put on your head, then.
00:04:06
Speaker
That's tough, but man, tough, tough week for Colorado sports, to say the least. Dion and the Buffs just getting to get in the hand of the huge L as well. So sad week for Colorado. I could not want to be living there. But I did like, so like you mentioned the Dolphins 70 to 20 win just
00:04:33
Speaker
coming out of nowhere. We know how electric that offense can be, but I didn't see that coming. And then, I mean, dude, I'm sure you're happy about this. The Cowboys, what is going on over there? All the expectations, dude. I know. I can't believe that they took an L like that. I mean, like I was going in and I like,
00:04:55
Speaker
I actually didn't even watch that game and I wasn't really paying attention to it. And I was thinking, you know, this is an easy cleanup game for them. Probably the easiest game to have on their schedule. And, you know, I come back and, you know, it's the fourth quarter and they're about to lose. And I turned it on. I'm like, Oh my God. I was not expecting that. I mean, I didn't get a chance to watch the whole game. So I can't, you know, say anything. I know Dak through a late fourth quarter interception in the red zone.
00:05:22
Speaker
Um, but did you see any more of that game? What was, what was kind of going on there? The parts of the game I saw were strictly what it came down to was the Cardinals just wanted it more. And, uh, John, uh, Jonathan Gannon over there, he, he's the old Eagles offensive coordinator. Uh, no, he was a defensive coordinator. He was a D coordinator. So he, he just has that like.
00:05:47
Speaker
He has that unit on defense, just playing like inspired football right now. And they know they're the underdog going into every game and they don't care. And the same on the offensive end with Josh Dobbs and Kyler, Kyler Murray, uh, on the bench with the injury or uninjured reserve.
Ravens & Jaguars Disappointments
00:06:05
Speaker
So they brought in Josh Dobbs to kind of fill the void right now. And he's getting it done, man. And even in their two losses against the giants and the commanders, he, you
00:06:17
Speaker
He's moving the ball. He's getting his playmakers, the ball like Hollywood Brown and James Connor. And they're just, they're playing like the underdog, you know, they just don't give a hell, they don't give a shit. And they're going in there and playing 110%.
00:06:33
Speaker
Yeah. I mean, that's a great way to look at it. And I liked Dobbs. I mean, I actually saw, I think it was pretty funny. I saw a video of him this week, trying to get a Jersey and, uh, and the team store, and they couldn't even get his, his own, uh, his own Jersey team store, which is pretty funny. I guess they ended up getting him one finally, but yeah, that's, that was a, that was a crazy game. And I mean, what does that mean for the Cardinals with, you know, Kyler coming back? Cause he's supposed to come back in a couple of weeks. He's projected to come off the IR.
00:07:01
Speaker
I believe this week, but I think they're holding them off one more week to kind of get them healthier. And I mean, with that win, I don't know if the Cardinals over there are thinking maybe like, hey, you know, let's turn this season into something. Like no one believed in us. Let's see what we can do. So I think him coming back, like we both know how valuable he is and how dual threat he can be. So we'll see if like him coming back and turn that franchise around this year.
00:07:30
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I think it also gives them some wiggle room if, you know, they think about wanting to deal Murray in the future and wanting to hit a full rebuild and get some new draft picks and stuff. I think that's something that they could head towards now knowing that, I mean, I guess it's really early to say that because the Cardinals only have one win, but it's definitely probably on the back of my mind. I know it's definitely on the back of the organization's mind for sure. Yeah, dude. So that was one of the upsets. Two more that kind of shocked me were
00:08:01
Speaker
The Baltimore Ravens in overtime losing to the Colts 22-19 and the Jaguars, a team that a lot of analysts picked as a dark horse team to make a Super Bowl run out of the FC, just getting embarrassed by the Texans, 37-17. Yeah, that one was another one that was surprising when I saw the score.
00:08:25
Speaker
A couple of my picks last week turned out to really bite me in the ass. I mean, that was one that I definitely had the Jags winning that game. And even the Ravens I hadn't won in that game with, I believe, Gardiner Menchu was the quarterback for the Colts that game. He was. Yeah. He came out and got the win. Love Gardiner. He was the Eagles backup quarterback last year. So love to see the man getting some time somewhere else. And he's proven to the world that anything's possible just like the Cardinals. So crazy.
Browns' Rise: Key Players & Defense
00:08:56
Speaker
And, you know, another game that really surprised me was, you know, we were talking on our last episode about how the Browns are going to turn things around with that Nick Chubb injury. And they played a very good, well-coached Titans team and trounced them. It was pretty much a blowout from the start. They ended up winning 27 to three against the Titans.
00:09:21
Speaker
Jerome Ford, man, he's filling the shoes of Nick Chubb pretty nicely. I know it's only been one week, but he looks like he can kind of be the real deal. Yeah. He was, I didn't realize that he was put up numbers like that. And I mean, honestly, for me, the surprising factor was, you know, the Cleveland Browns defense, you know, holding the Titans to three points. Derek Henry actually had negative rushing yards for, you know,
00:09:44
Speaker
of the game, which was crazy, you know, terrible for me was to have on my fantasy team. So that was heartbreaking. But, um, you know, that defense, man, I think they're a little underrated. I mean, they only hold the Titans to three, you know, that's, that's not bad. They are, dude. And I think, uh, Miles Garrett, just kind of being the leader of that defense, he kind of flies under the radar a little bit, you know, because there's
00:10:08
Speaker
He's kind of living in the shadows of guys like Nick Bosa and Micah Parsons with the emergence of him and TJ Watt in Pittsburgh. And Miles Garrett sometimes gets forgotten about, but he's the real deal. And he's one of, I'd say, the top five defensive players in the NFL right now. Yeah, he's playing great. So this is my question for you. So if you're starting an NFL franchise, you can either have TJ Watt or Miles Garrett. Where are you taking?
00:10:38
Speaker
Or Mike, Micah Parsons. I'll throw him in there as well. Yeah, I definitely have to go with Micah Parsons, I think. I think with Micah Parsons, as opposed to the other two, you can throw him in any position, whether he's, you know, on the line, coming off the edge. Literally, he's lined up sometimes right over the center for a pass rush and at linebacker. He can just come at you with all these different types of angles.
00:11:07
Speaker
The other two, don't get me wrong, just like I said, they're studs, but I think if I'm building a franchise, I'm going with Michael Parsons. And it's crazy to say, man, that he's been in the league just so few years and he's just viewed as the top
00:11:25
Speaker
Prospect on the defensive side. Yeah, he's crazy. I mean he's he's a crazy athletic move Sucks it he's in the Eagles division. I hate it But I mean they're gonna need him to step up even more with the loss of digs on the you know for the Cowboys last week like we talked about so obviously didn't get the win for them last week, but Yeah, some of those other teams. I mean Bill's another defensive, you know showcase I mean obviously they had a good offensive showing too, but
00:11:55
Speaker
They really, you know, Commanders come in 2-0 and pretty much just embarrass them. Yeah, I kind of saw that coming, if I'm being honest. The Commanders were, in my eyes, a fake 2-0 team. They kind of scraped by the first two weeks of the season. And I know that they had a lot of high expectations on the offensive side, bringing in Eric Bienemie, the Chiefs old offensive coordinator. He's now the new offensive coordinator in Washington.
00:12:24
Speaker
the first two weeks, you know, he was getting, putting points up on the board. And this week, you know, facing a very experienced, loaded Bill's defense that, you know, have been and played in big games and big moments. They just really showcased what they can, what they can be. Yeah. It was, I mean, it was good for the Bills, see him get back on track and kind of, kind of put a whole game together on both the offensive and defensive side, I think was, was big for them.
00:12:52
Speaker
Um, so I think that, I mean, for me right now, the AFC is pretty wide open. I mean, we got a, we got a couple, you know, obviously of those old teams, you know, so you got the bills, the chiefs, all these, all these, you know, teams that have kind of been the powerhouses the last few years, but you know, no one looking great. So for me, um, to see a team like the bills, put some like a full game like that together. Um, I think it's a good sign for them
Dolphins vs. Bills: Anticipation & Scheduling Decisions
00:13:19
Speaker
heading in the right direction.
00:13:21
Speaker
And guess where we have this upcoming week, dude? What? The Miami Dolphins who just hung 70 points on the Broncos are going to Buffalo and playing the Bills. That's the game of the week. Hands down.
00:13:39
Speaker
going to be a crazy game. I mean, two powerhouses right now. I don't know who I like in this one. I think I'm going to have to stick with the home team here. I'm going with Bills. I think they put a stop to the Dolphins 3-0 start and kind of take him down. What are your thoughts on this? This is an interesting one, so I'm curious to see what you think.
00:14:02
Speaker
Yeah, it's the game of the week. And so far this season, it's got to be the game of the season up to, up to the, up to this date. But the bills coming in as two and a half point favorites, you know, uh, the dolphins obviously have shown that they, when they're clicking on all cylinders are probably the most electric offense in the NFL.
00:14:26
Speaker
just what, how they can come at you with all these different types of players where he most or Tyree kill to, uh, you know, a little shovel passes, do his tight ends and the backup running back all of a sudden getting some action. But I, I'm going to have to agree with you on this one. I think that this week to a kind of comes down to earth a little bit. Uh, and the bills kind of just show like, Hey man, we're still the, we're still the Kings of the AFC East. Like you got to come through us and
00:14:55
Speaker
I do think that it's going to be like a great watch and it's, they're going to give us viewers a whole ton of scoring and it's going to be high scoring once again. But I think the bill is going to come through. And this is, I think a huge game for Josh Allen because all the, he struggled week one against the jets. He's kind of like really gotten back into the groove of things and showed that he can be one of the top quarterbacks in the league.
00:15:24
Speaker
a big test divisional opponent that's riding high right now. He's got to win this game because if he doesn't, there's going to be a lot of different people talking, I guarantee it.
00:15:38
Speaker
Yeah, I think he's got really got to prove himself this week. I mean, you look at it, like you said, kind of that, you know, non Josh Allen performance week one comes in, beats the Raiders, you know, plays pretty good, comes in, beats, you know, the, the commanders, which is not, you know, even though they're two and no, it wasn't a super tough matchup.
00:15:55
Speaker
But, like you said, a divisional round or a divisional game coming in, they need this. And I think it will really give them momentum and kind of carry them and see how, you know, hope with how the rest of the season is going to play out.
00:16:12
Speaker
I think they need this man. I think it's going to be a great fun game to watch. I think my bold prediction is it's going to be almost like when the Rams play the Chiefs in that super high scoring game. And I hope it's one of those. Those are my favorite. There's always one or two of those a year and those are the fun ones to watch. I'm just bummed, dude, that the game is being played in the morning slot. They didn't
00:16:37
Speaker
just being this early in the season, it was thrown out there, the idea of flexing it to Sunday night football, but they, NFL refused and it's sticking to that morning slot. So I feel like that's also can play a role and whether or not there's a ton of scoring. Cause I feel like just in the morning teams sometimes play a little differently than if they got all day to rest, you know, and cause that that chief's Rams game was on Monday night football, actually.
00:17:04
Speaker
were that high scoring affair. But I hope, like you said, it's going to be just a shootout. I never thought about it like that. So that's actually an interesting point. Why do you think it's just because they have more rest that they might not put up as many points as in the night game?
00:17:21
Speaker
I don't necessarily think it's due to rest. I think it's just mindset. Also like sometimes teams, I do agree like, or I agree with the statement that some people say that on when it's prime time, Sunday night football, some guys shrink a little bit, you know, cause it's, you know, under the lights in front of the whole nation. But I think teams like the bills and dolphins.
00:17:42
Speaker
they flourish in those types of games because they know what they're you know they know what they're capable of and what they can show the world so they're the two types of teams that i think if they're playing like sunday night it would just be like an electric shootout but i still think it can be even though you're playing in the morning but that's kind of just my opinion on it
00:18:03
Speaker
Yeah. You know, the Bill's, Bill's nation is going to go crazy no matter what. So it'll be an electric atmosphere. It's going to be a great game to watch. And I think we'll be definitely keeping a close, close eye on that one. But in their place on Senate night football, we got the Chiefs really playing. They're playing the Jets, dude. Oh God. You know, it's, you know, what's funny is like, I don't even know who the Chiefs are playing, but I just know Taylor Swift is going to be at the game.
00:18:27
Speaker
That's like all I've been seeing this week is all this shit about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey. It has been what a week without every, you know, barstool sports, always, you know, sports center, everything I feel like is all at the Travis Kelsey Taylor Swift kind of kind of thing. What are your thoughts on that? It's unbelievable. It's gotten to the point now where I mean, what a week of NFL, right?
Taylor Swift's Influence vs. NFL Headlines
00:18:52
Speaker
Just all these upsets, nail biters down to the wire and, you know,
00:18:57
Speaker
all these great games, the first good, great week we've had this season. And guess who's in the spotlight? Taylor Swift. And I can't believe it because like you just said, dude, my whole Instagram feed and any type of social media I've been on has just been these people coming up with conspiracies of where they went after the game. And are they dating? Are they not? And it's just crazy. But I did see that she confirmed that she will be in attendance once again.
00:19:26
Speaker
And that one's actually in New York, so just a little bit more publicity. I think that's why she's gone, if I'm being honest. For the publicity. I think this is all publicity stunt, which is bullshit. She doesn't even need publicity. She's already the top of the world with that. Here's the thing. She has all the publicity from the Swifties or whatever, all her diehard fans.
00:19:54
Speaker
she's never really been a big celebrity in the sports world. And that's what a lot of people are thinking is she's doing this for clicks and doing it to kind of be like a voice in the NFL world and kind of getting guys like us to be like, oh, wow. Yeah. Taylor Swift. Yeah. She's trying to take over that Sunday night football song. I don't know.
00:20:18
Speaker
Yeah, it's crazy. I mean, good for Travis Kelsey. I guess he's been shooting his shot at her for a little bit, so good for him. I can't believe she pulled up though. I know.
00:20:30
Speaker
That was, it was pretty, pretty crazy. And, you know, a lot of, a lot of, it's funny, all these people are saying, you know, like, Oh, Travis Kelsey, it wasn't all the Swifties are like, Travis Kelsey wouldn't be relevant if it wasn't for Taylor Swift. No one knows who he is. And everyone's like, hold on a second. Travis Kelsey is probably, you know, if not the best, the best hide in NFL history. So, which actually brings up interesting point. Um, you know, I saw, I saw this on Instagram today and it was talking about Travis Kelsey or Gronk.
NFL Tight Ends Showdown: Kelce vs. Gronkowski
00:21:01
Speaker
Obviously, Tony Gonzalez is in the conversation too, but who are you taking? Prime, who do you want your team? Dude, when it's all said and done, man, I think I'm going to go with Travis Kelsey. And I totally understand the people who side with Gronk in this.
00:21:19
Speaker
you know, controversy. And I mean, because we know when we for us growing up, Gronk was just, he could take over a game. And he's just that much of an animal. But I definitely like the way Kelsey plays the game, how he's just kind of
00:21:39
Speaker
He's a star on the Chiefs, obviously, and all of us know that he's probably, he's the top tight end in the league, but he just kind of goes out there and, and plays his game and he can, he's pretty much a wide receiver at tight end. And I think that's what I like really admire about him because Gronk is kind of your physical like bruiser tight end, right? But Kelsey can just come at you with all these different types of routes and all that. So.
00:22:06
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, I think I have to agree too.
00:22:11
Speaker
I want to say Gronk, but at the same time, just growing up, I've seen Kelsey play a lot more. He does it year after year. He's kind of like, you know, like you said, Gronk is, you know, that physical tight end. Kelsey's kind of the first of his kind. And I think which, you know, a lot of tight ends in the future are going to kind of try and mimic or try and be like being able to fly around the field. You know, he's so great at like reading defenses and all that stuff. So yeah, I have to agree there. I mean, he's a great tight end and I wish he was on my team.
00:22:46
Speaker
So, dude, you mentioned we just talked about the Sunday night football game. It's the Chiefs going to the Jets. There's a reason why the NFL scheduled that this early on in the season because they were expecting Aaron Rodgers to be behind center. And that probably would have been one hell of a game. And the viewer, the viewership on that would have been through the roof. But now, I mean,
00:23:12
Speaker
The Jets, one and two, and they are falling off the deep end, man. Yeah, they are not looking hot right now. A lot of problems, a lot of rumors that the reporters at the defense are unhappy with Salah for supporting Wilson throughout this kind of QB stint that he's been putting on. He just does not look good, and they continue to keep giving him chances and chances and chances.
00:23:37
Speaker
You know, as NFL quarterback, you got to be held accountable at some point. You know, I mean, you only get so many chances, and I want a roof for the guy, but he's just not getting it done. And I think it's one of the main things I think is, you know, with that team is, you know, his play, I think, is really hindering their abilities to succeed. So... Yeah, I did. And, you know, now watching him struggle
00:24:04
Speaker
for a couple of years now, and especially this season, it's very eye-opening to me how he just continues to, you know, real, real and real and real.
Jets' QB Dilemma & Kaepernick's Attempt
00:24:14
Speaker
Like the thing that just pops into my mind, man, is like, I know it's easy for me to say, cause I'm not, obviously could not be a quarterback in the NFL, but my thing is, dude, is how can you be that much of a cliche like Zach Wilson, where your fan base has all these expectations with Rogers coming in, he goes down,
00:24:35
Speaker
Why can't Wilson go in there and just play competitive football, man? I just don't understand how he continues to get chance after chance, like you just mentioned. And he just blows every opportunity. It's getting to the point now, dude, I'm not even a Jets fan. I am angry.
00:24:51
Speaker
as if I were a Jets fan, dude. It's pathetic. It's actually pathetic and it pisses me off. Yeah, I know it's hard because there was so much hype around him all season with the Hard Hawks. It's definitely wanted to see the team succeed. He's got some weapons around him. Obviously, Garrett Wilson is just a star. He really got Cook and Reese Hall on the offensive end. Like you said, with those expectations.
00:25:13
Speaker
giving him the benefit of the doubt. Those are big shoes to fill, you know, coming in, um, trying to, you know, follow up Aaron Rodgers after, you know, all these expectations were, um, you know, kind of expected, but, um, you know, jets go out and actually sign. Um, what was the, what was the guy's name? I can't even remember his name. I, that's how much I don't know. He's a no name here. He might as well not even have signed him. His name is Trevor Simeon. He's been a journeyman.
00:25:39
Speaker
in the NFL ever since he got into the league has gotten a start here and there. I don't know his career stats pulled up, but I know for a fact, they're not good. Uh, I don't know what they were thinking. I don't know why they think he can be the, you know, the answer to their problems, but you know, it seems like that's the main issue that the jets have dealt with for the last 15 years. You know, they can't get the quarterback, right? Yeah. I don't, I really don't understand that signing.
00:26:07
Speaker
Um, you know, they had a bunch of reports. I mean, at this point, you know, I would have rather them pick up like a cam Newton, you know, someone that obviously he's not going to put up, you know, anything crazy, but I think it was probably show up or play a little better than that guy, but you know, I could be wrong. Um, I have not seen him play very much, so you never know, but, uh, very interesting signing. Very interesting. My guy, my guy, I think they should have signed it as Carson Wentz.
00:26:34
Speaker
That's true. I forgot that he was still on the market. Why not? I wonder. I don't understand why not. And I get that he's had his struggles the last couple of stints he's had with different teams, but at least he has, you know, the type of skillset that can kind of, you can implement him into that offense and he can, he can get a job done, you know, he can kind of be a,
00:26:59
Speaker
a poor man's Aaron Rodgers where like he just kind of he's older, right, experienced a veteran and he's he can just go in there and kind of get the job done and something. I know that he's dealt with his you know, his trust issues with with certain coaches and that's kind of what has

his downfall. That's kind of been the result of it. Trust issues. I don't know what they're thinking. That's who I would have gone after. But dude, did you hear about Colin Kaepernick reaching out? Yeah, yeah. Send an email directly to the general manager and owner of the Jets. Yeah, that's crazy. I feel, I can't believe he's still trying to play. I mean, respect to the man, he's still trying, but
00:27:47
Speaker
But damn, I mean, I was not expecting a bat named to pop up when I was hearing things about different quarterbacks playing for the New York Jets. But I mean, that's a tough one because you get a lot of obviously media attention with that. And I don't know, some teams don't like that. But crazy, man, crazy that they ended up signing Trevor. And maybe it'll put a little bit more pressure on Zach Wilson to step his game up. And we'll see what they can do.
00:28:18
Speaker
So, yep, y'all know, I totally agree. And I think that this game, whether the thing, I believe they are going to stick with Wilson, uh, on Sunday night football against the chiefs and it, all he has to do, man, is go in there and like hoped that he can play competitive because if he goes in at home in front of the home crowd and just lays an egg again, and I get that the whole world is predicting that my home's is going to go in there and roll them.
00:28:47
Speaker
But, so that's why, man, like don't be the cliche. That's what I'm saying. Go in there and prove everyone wrong and make it a game. And maybe you'll earn the respect of your fans again. Yeah. I have to solve a point. I mean, he's a BYU guy. So being BSU fans, you know, I, I don't mind what he does either way, but for the Jets sake, I guess I hope that he, that he put some numbers up. Um, so man, heading into week four now, you know, some teams that had some,
00:29:16
Speaker
high expectations, kind of falling off like the Vikings, teams like that. What other games do you like this upcoming week?
Lions vs. Packers Preview
00:29:25
Speaker
I know Thursday night football, we got a pretty, pretty interesting one. Detroit, the Detroit Lions are going to Green Bay and facing the newly led Jordan Love Packers, man. And he's looked good. He's, he's filled those shoes pretty okay.
00:29:44
Speaker
With Roger's departure, don't you think? A pretty OK is an understatement, I think. I think he's been exceeding his expectations coming into the season.
00:29:55
Speaker
He's been good, man. He's able to run the ball a little bit. Packers look good. You know, they were down last week, I think like seven, 17 zero maybe, and came come back and get the win. Obviously that fan base is super passionate. So to have a quarterback, you know, only had two quarterbacks in the last, you know, 30 some, some years crazy. So obviously high expectations. And I think he's living up to him so far. I mean,
00:30:18
Speaker
It'll be an interesting game this week versus the Lions who are looking, you know, pretty solid as well. So divisional matchup on, you know, prime time football Thursday night. So that's going to be interesting when I'm, you know, I think while the Packers are playing, you know, pretty good and they are at, you know, are in Lambo this week. I'm going to have to take the Detroit Lions. I think golf goes in there and gets a win. I'm going to have to fully support that man.
00:30:47
Speaker
I do think that Vegas has this game kind of too close for comfort. And I think that the Lions are a much better all around team, I would say. Jordan Love, like we talked about, he's kind of exceeded his expectations, getting his team to two and one with two very quality wins. But again, he's faced the Bears in week one
00:31:17
Speaker
and got a win and then the Saints in week three with the win and Derek Carr actually went out in the third quarter when the Saints were up 17-0 and Winston came in and shit the bed so the Packers were able to make a comeback so I think if Carr was still in there would have been a different story so I think this is the Packers first real test you know they do get the lines at home but I'm gonna have to go with Dan Campbell man that guy is
00:31:45
Speaker
just got his team playing super inspired and they kind of want to prove to the rest of the world that they are the new kings of that division, you know? Up and coming.
00:31:57
Speaker
No, I mean, that division is definitely, you know, for grabs with the Vikings playing terrible and the, you know, the bears obviously not panning out either on the other side, but I actually had, you know, I'm, I'm coming into this week, you know, with us as a fantasy player, I got David Montgomery and then he also, you got Jameer Gibbs on the other side of the ball as well with the, or on the same side of the ball, actually. And, you know, I'm, I'm wondering, do you, what do you think that the lions are going to do with this, with this running back situation? Do you think that they are going to.
00:32:27
Speaker
kind of, you know, go full throttle with Gibbs after Montgomery is coming off an injury or are they kind of, you know, trying to do the opposite and kind of slowly introduced, um, Jamir, um, into the league. So yeah, man, that's a great question. You know, we,
00:32:45
Speaker
both know how talented Jameer Gibbs was coming out of Alabama, you know, obviously was coached up by Nick Saban, one of the best to do it and really came in as a top prospect into the draft and the Lions were able to snag him. And then in free agency, they bring in David Montgomery, a very, you know, solid, but not, you know, star studded, right? Like he's a solid running back. But to answer your question, I think that,
00:33:11
Speaker
their goal is to definitely develop Gibbs into that RB1 position. And I think bringing in Montgomery as, you know, multiple years now in the league kind of solidified himself as a solid running back, kind of be a tutor to Jameer Gibbs in a sense. But I think right from the get go, they're trying to get him Gibbs involved right away. It's just, he is not,
00:33:37
Speaker
gotten a touchdown. That's pretty much all that's all that he's lacking right now. He's getting the job done in every other category, you know, in the past game and getting some quality rushing yards and yards after the yards after the hit. So. Yeah. Yeah. I think it's, he's, he's going to be a scary, good running back, um, coming up in the league in the next, next year as we got a good.
00:33:58
Speaker
good group coming in with Bijon Robinson, him and some other guys. So it'll be, you know, interesting to see this kind of new wave of running backs come in. So yeah, but, you know, another, you know, your game of the week, obviously I think everyone's game of the week is that that dolphins
Ravens vs. Browns: Week 4 High Stakes
00:34:15
Speaker
bills. But another one I thought was interesting that I really want to have my eye on is the Ravens Browns, because that's going to be, you know, another game that's a divisional game.
00:34:27
Speaker
Big for both teams. Browns coming off a huge, huge win. Ravens coming off a loss. Obviously going to be hungry for a victory. And this I think really kind of propels either one to the top of the division. So I think this is going to be an interesting matchup. I have the Browns coming in, you know, they're playing at home. I think while the Ravens are going to be hungry, I think this Browns defense is something to be reckoned with. And I think the world's really going to see what they can do.
00:34:57
Speaker
Our first disagreement here, I'm going to go with the Baltimore Ravens and there's a big reason. And even though the Ravens lost last week in overtime to the Colts debt, very disappointing loss. They, they should have, you know, destroyed them, but Lamar Jackson finally got going in his running game. He had over a hundred yards rushing for the first time this year and the, you know, dealing with injuries in that running back room.
00:35:26
Speaker
with JK Dobbins going down, I believe Gus Edwards is now dealing with some injuries and same with Justice Hill. I mean, the three-headed monster that they have over there, they're all kind of banged up. Well, Dobbins is out for the year, but so I think John Harbaugh and the offensive coordinator over there, they're really, they kind of got Lamar Jackson going last week and they're really gonna get him going again this week. And I'm pretty sure I think the Ravens have,
00:35:56
Speaker
Since Lamar's been in the league, they've pretty much handled the Browns every meeting, every time they face. And I know that Miles Garrett's scary coming after the quarterback, but did Lamar is slippery. And when he's out in open space, man, he is nasty. But I mean, he hasn't had to face this Browns, you know, 2023 defense. And like you said, I mean, that three-headed monster is having some issues, obviously. They're not going to have, you know, that firepower like they would come into the season.
00:36:26
Speaker
You know, I think it's no, it's no secret that if the Ravens get Lamar running the ball, that they're a good team. So I think this defense is really going to just kind of shut that down, make Lamar pass the ball and you know, see if he can beat them through the air. And you know, if he, if, if he's able to, you know, do that, then there's a good chance that this game could be close and the Ravens may squeak, squeak out a W, but I don't see that happening. I really don't.
00:36:53
Speaker
All right, man. I completely forgot about that game actually kind of slipped my mind that because with the Dolphins bills, everyone talking about that one. That is another huge game. The Ravens Browns. And we'll see, man. But coming off last week, coming off last week with all of these just wild finishes, shocking upsets, games going down to the wire and T Swift actually making an appearance.
00:37:23
Speaker
I think that their week four has got a lot to live up to, but like we just recap, man, three big divisional games this Friday, Thursday night, we got the lions and Packers should be a good one. And Sunday, the double header of Ravens out the Browns and Miami.
00:37:47
Speaker
going to Buffalo, I think that we are in store for, hopefully, another wild Sunday. And as Scott Hanson would say, the witching hour will definitely prevail. 100%. It's going to be a fun one, man. And I hope that it kind of falls the same trend as last week. And just having another exciting week in the NFL. It's good to be back. And I'm excited to see what happens. All right. One last question for you, dude.
00:38:19
Speaker
With all the games this upcoming week, who is your upset of the week?
Week 4 Upset Predictions
00:38:25
Speaker
Oh man, upset of the week. That's a tough one. Let me look at some games here, see who I got. I mean, my Eagles are obviously going to take care of the commander, so that's not going to be an issue. Let's see here.
00:38:43
Speaker
I think the stealer is going to take care of the Texans. Um, you know, what I see happening this week as my upset of the week, I'm going to go with the Raiders taking down the charters. I liked that. I liked that for me. I'm going with the new England Patriots.
00:39:09
Speaker
taken down Dallas, dude. In Ezekiel Elliott's comeback, he is gonna go off, I think. He's gonna have a touchdown. What's that? That big boy thinks he can get a couple yards. We'll see. I don't know. Dude, they developed him last week. They got him like 15 carries and got him involved. So I think he's gonna be hungry for a revenge game against
00:39:32
Speaker
the Cowboys. And we both, we've talked about this before, dude, Bill Belichick, that defense, they, when he's got a week to prepare, he comes, he's hungry, man. Yeah. And I, you know, since being an Eagles fan, I obviously hope that the new England Patriots come in and, you know, take that one as well. So we'll see what happens. But, uh, yeah, we definitely got a huge week in store. Hopefully some upsets may occur and obviously we're going to be paying attention to those big games. So can't wait.
00:40:03
Speaker
Can't wait. So I think that pretty much wraps up this episode.
Conclusion & Next Week's Teaser
00:40:07
