How do we convert followers to clients?

That's the million dollar question, right?

How do we get people on social media to actually make conversions to make them sales?

Well, we're going to talk about that today, but specifically from the context of Instagram.

And so

As so many know, for most basic users of Instagram, the goal is to create a large following, right?

We want to hit that 10K marker.

That was the milestone for so many people for so long and grow to who knows how large.

And so here's the thing, though, and I see this all the time, having worked with influencers that have followings of 100, 200, 500,000, a million plus people.

And we've worked with them.

Some of them do not make a whole ton of money.

They haven't found a way to monetize their followers.

And so at the end of the day, in business, we're not about a popularity contest.

We're about a sales contest.

We want to make money and see our bottom line continue to grow and increase.

And so that's what we're going to talk about with Instagram, because again, while we want to grow and create content to increase our following, at the end of the day, who cares if we are generating consistent sales and hitting those goals?

Let's talk about how to be able to do that.

Setting Social Media Goals

Number one, oversimplified, but it's important to really define your goals.

What are your goals for your organization to succeed?

And so, you know, we were evaluating this as a company with Instagram specifically of, hey, how do we use this platform in our funnel?

Like, do we need to get clients here?

And so that might be the question that you need to ask first before you even talk about turning your followers into customers.

is the purpose of that channel for you to convert customers.

And so for us, when we're selling to marketing directors, into the C-suite, to CMOs, to VPs of marketing, most of them in the day-to-day aren't spending their time on there.

And so Instagram is more of a way for us to create awareness, exposure, to practice what we preach and to show up for our audience, but not to generate sales.

So really important to really assess those goals.

But I'm going to say,

If you are a consumer-based brand, there is some opportunity, my friend, for you to see some sales come through.

Understanding Social Proof

Give social proof.

This is gonna be really important to converting people.

And what's social proof?

It is the phenomenon where people assume the likes and comments and the actions of others really reflect the correct behavior for the situation.

So to simplify that a little bit, your social proof is the likes, the comments, the shares,

the genuine engagement that people see that cause others to follow suit.

And so here's how you build this social proof.

One step is through USG or user generated content.

We've talked about that.

We have a whole episode on that, but having other audiences create, or excuse me, other people create content for your brand and resharing it, really, really great way to get social proof, especially if you've got a sale or something that you're running.

If you're a boutique, let's see some photos of people in your clothing, right?

Let's focus on that.

Because if people see people that resemble them, look like them, sound like them, chances are they're going to think that they need to follow suit.

Another form of UGC is going to be testimonials.

Take that feedback, highlight it, and build it up.

If you are one of those influencers that's wanting to monetize your following, find something to sell and find customers that have talked about it.

Or if you're trying to build up that base, find other people, or maybe you're trying to sell a new product line, find some demo or beta testers.

And then finally, influencers.

You can really leverage influencers to give social proof for what it is that you are doing.

So there's a lot of other criteria that we do not need to get into about influencers on this episode, but that's gonna be a helpful way to give social proof.

Building Audience Trust

Third way to target following followers into customers is building a trustworthy community.

Do what you say that you will do, walk with integrity,

post consistently, build a community, engage back.

That really can diminish trust for your brand.

So very important to convert your followers that you are responding back, maybe engaging them in the DMs even when it makes sense.

Simplifying the Conversion Funnel

The next tip is make it easy to convert.

So I don't recommend putting links on your Instagram profile or excuse me, links on your posts, obviously, because you cannot click them.

But put a link tree in your bio and reference.

Oh my gosh, that's a lot for the user to sift through.

Pick your top five to 10 of the actions you want people to take.

If you have more offers or more products than that, create more funnels based on your website or if your e-commerce, find other ways to group to create larger order values.

Maybe if you are a vet and you are trying to get people into the clinic, share some ideas at home of when maybe signs and symptoms that your pup is sick and you need to get them in.
