Speaker: We're doing a show.

Speaker: Speaking of shows, hey all you lovely listeners out there.

Speaker: Welcome, welcome to the show.

Speaker: No, this is another exciting, thrilling, anticipatory episode.

Speaker: I don't even know if that's a word, I just made it up.

Speaker: That might have been our smoothest intro yet, honestly.

Speaker: Anticipatory of Oddly Coded, and now that Matt's derailed our smoothest fuck intro, we're gonna get right on into it.

Speaker: My name's Matt, this is Lyle and Dan.

Speaker: And as you notice, as you, as you can see, Steej is not with us today.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: He's dead.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: I mean, I have no, I have no, I have no joke there.

Speaker: We're really going to confuse the audio only listeners who have only heard us a couple of times.

Speaker: And for those, and for those of you, for those of you that, you know, just use your ear holes to intake our content.

Speaker: That was also a joke.

Speaker: It's just me, Lyle, and then the Matt and then the Steej.

Speaker: For real this time.

Speaker: My spiel, is it spiel or spiel?

Speaker: Spiel.

Speaker: Spiel?

Speaker: It's like S-S-C-H-I-E-L.

Speaker: It's like Steven Spielberg.

Speaker: Or no, S-C-H-P-I-E-L, I think.

Speaker: Or like, what is it that you put on a bagel?

Speaker: S-C-H-L-B-E-R.

Speaker: Is it schmear or smear?

Speaker: Yeah, no, it's schmear.

Speaker: So Lyle, what are we talking about today?

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: So much like the introduction to this episode, we should probably be talking about some remakes and or remasters of video games.

Speaker: How do we define these concepts in terms of video games?

Speaker: Like what makes a remake?

Speaker: What makes a remaster?

Speaker: How we feel the general public, the general consensus of the idea of remakes and remasters for classic games.

Speaker: What are some examples that we know and love?

Speaker: Or what are some examples we feel are necessary or unnecessary?

Speaker: And then we all know that there is at least one super popular remake that is still in the process and that people are excited for.

Speaker: But what other remakes or remasters are we looking forward to or have enjoyed?

Speaker: So Lyle, how would you actually define a remake versus a remaster versus like a sequel even or like a reboot?

Speaker: So we got a lot of R words in there, right?

Speaker: Remake, remaster, reboot.

Speaker: The way I see it, I kind of take it in three different categories as opposed to just the two that I kind of listed off.

Speaker: There's like, you know, there's an HD upscaling, there's a remaster, and then there's a remake.

Speaker: I see an HD upscaling to give an example of this one.

Speaker: Whenever, whenever they do like the PS five upgrade on, on like PlayStation four games nowadays.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Or like when, when Resident Evil four didn't just get the remake that it got, but I'm talking when it came to PS four from its original version, that was more of an HD upscaling.

Speaker: Gameplay elements were not messed with.

Speaker: Story was not messed with.

Speaker: Content was not cut out.

Speaker: And that's kind of,

Speaker: with a remaster, it includes HD upscaling stuff, but it might be more visually different than something that's just been put through a filter, in my opinion.

Speaker: And then a remake is either the same studio or a different studio taking on a project and taking core elements and bringing them to an updated audience and an updated

Speaker: version of the game but also predominantly going from the ground up that's what I was gonna say it's like they're rebuilding it from the ground up it's in my opinion it is a new game not yeah not in concept but in execution and

Speaker: I think the biggest difference between a remake and a reboot, a remake is you're taking a game and you're, like you said, remaking that game from the ground up.

Speaker: So like the story of that game and like the concept of that game is exactly the same with the same character, same storyline, same everything.

Speaker: It's just with maybe new mechanics.

Speaker: It's like the meta of it is different.

Speaker: Like there's new mechanics, there's new intrinsic parts to the game that there might be a little bit different.

Speaker: Whereas a reboot, you usually see that with a franchise.

Speaker: Like you're taking, like Lara Croft or something like that, where you're taking a franchise, you have the same characters, but you're kind of changing the style and making new games with it.

Speaker: The way I see with reboot is that the intent, whether it's for one installment or, like you say, the entire franchise, I think the focus there is for the story.

Speaker: Like a reboot, the intention might be to

Speaker: Like, yeah, you're probably going to be bringing it to a new audience, a new demographic or whatever.

Speaker: But your intent is to bring this familiar IP and like either make it like a new origin story or a new just a new telling of the original story.

Speaker: But you're changing the story elements.

Speaker: Sure.

Speaker: Gameplay could be the exact same.

Speaker: But the purpose is to, you know, alternate universe or.

Speaker: just alternate events, so to speak.

Speaker: Sure.

Speaker: So I'm probably going to get those.

Speaker: I'm probably going to mistake those terms that we just talked about.

Speaker: That's fine.

Speaker: And I'm going to ask for... I don't nitpick.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Actually, I was going to ask you to help me out with that.

Speaker: Yeah, sure.

Speaker: I've actually got three examples right off the top of my head when you guys were talking about those different things.

Speaker: If I can kind of get us started here.

Speaker: Yeah, yeah.

Speaker: And that would be...

Speaker: Halo the Master Chief Collection.

Speaker: Okay.

Speaker: Oh, yeah.

Speaker: Doom, as in like OG Doom versus like 2015, 2016 Doom.

Speaker: 2016.

Speaker: And then Final Fantasy 7 would be the first one that I would actually talk about.

Speaker: And I think each three of those are very different in some really interesting ways.

Speaker: And I think that...

Speaker: So Master Chief Collection was like that upscale.

Speaker: It wasn't a reboot.

Speaker: Yeah, yeah.

Speaker: It wasn't really a remake.

Speaker: Game mechanics stayed the exact same.

Speaker: It was basically the same game.

Speaker: They just made it look nicer.

Speaker: Depending on who you ask.

Speaker: Well, actually, I was going to say... It's an HD upscaling.

Speaker: It's an HD upscaling, but they also added... They...

Speaker: They didn't change any of the gameplay, but they made it look so much nicer, and it wasn't just the same textures.

Speaker: I think they made some radical improvements in the way that the game looked, especially when I would actually say just Halo 2's cutscenes.

Speaker: Oh my god, dude.

Speaker: Halo 2 was mind-blowing, especially at the time when it first came out, when it was remade or upscaled.

Speaker: That was insane.

Speaker: At least the cutscenes were completely redone.

Speaker: The cutscenes were redone.

Speaker: What I thought was most impressive was the script was one-to-one.

Speaker: Yeah, yeah.

Speaker: The audio and the voice recordings, one-to-one.

Speaker: Yeah, no, but they just made all of the visuals so much better, and that was one of the biggest things that I noticed.

Speaker: And something else I think they did really, really well is they didn't, since they didn't touch, like, the core gameplay or the mechanics or anything like that, and they really just made it look nice, I found myself, like, looking at something, and my memory...

Speaker: Like if I was just playing from my memory, I would have made it look nicer in my memory already.

Speaker: And then I'm playing the game and I'm like, this is like kind of exactly what I remember.

Speaker: But the thing is that you can live switch between the the original graphics and the new one.

Speaker: And

Speaker: At the push of one button.

Speaker: One button and it's immediate.

Speaker: There's no lag.

Speaker: That was such a... It's so cool.

Speaker: Nobody should ever HD rescale or redo their game without that as an option.

Speaker: Because, I don't know, that... I've seen it done very few times where they'll do the original audio for some of the Resident Evil games.

Speaker: I think Resident Evil 2 Remake.

Speaker: um you can turn on the original sound effects and the original like ps1 like audio uh for the game but you still have to go into a menu you still have to select the option um it's not it's not it wasn't as seamless it's not as seamless as like the the the master chief collection and yet just the graphics switch i don't understand my game more games don't do that that's so crazy

Speaker: I don't know, but it was a really, as tumultuous of a beginning that the Master Chief Collection had, I think they really made... Why was it tumultuous?

Speaker: I don't remember it being tumultuous.

Speaker: You don't remember that?

Speaker: No, it was like they had like no game modes.

Speaker: Like it was like from the multiplayer perspective.

Speaker: That's why.

Speaker: Because I didn't give a shit about the multiplayer.

Speaker: Okay, that's why.

Speaker: Okay, that makes sense.

Speaker: Yeah, from the gameplay perspective, if you're just doing the campaign, it was fine.

Speaker: They totally delivered on that front.

Speaker: I think they did roll those out in tiers, like where they actually had to come back and like redo a couple of things or...

Speaker: They didn't have all of the every Halo game, but they eventually did.

Speaker: They add, I think you're right.

Speaker: I think they added ODST and reach later on, but they at least had one through four and they only, but that really wasn't that big of a deal that, that really wasn't like a much of a miss on, on, on the one where they originally promised.

Speaker: I will say though.

Speaker: And I mean, again, this cannot be said enough, like what they did with one and two in terms of those graphical overhauls.

Speaker: Phenomenal.

Speaker: They didn't do anything graphically with three or four.

Speaker: Not that no, I like as much as I dislike for I still think it's a visual spectacle.

Speaker: So it doesn't it doesn't really need that kind of treatment.

Speaker: And I think if they did that kind of thing with three, I would still be impressed.

Speaker: But I don't think like one and two really need it.

Speaker: I mean, yeah, three kind of just looked pretty good to begin with.

Speaker: Not everything, but like... No, I know, I know, I know.

Speaker: Like, yeah, it certainly doesn't look like the same as a game coming out on like the PS5 today.

Speaker: Oh, no, no, no, for sure.

Speaker: I give it credit where it's due.

Speaker: It looked pretty good as far as I remember.

Speaker: For a 360 game, it was absolutely great.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: I mean, I guess we can say that about any of the Halo games, really.

Speaker: Like Halo 1 and 2 looked good for their time, so... Oh, yeah.

Speaker: I don't know.

Speaker: I guess we can say really the same thing about anything, but I mean, Halo 3 could get a remaster at some point.

Speaker: With its popularity, just historically, I don't see it not happening.

Speaker: Or an HD remake.

Speaker: Something.

Speaker: I'd love to see it happen.

Speaker: What were the other ones you said, Matt?

Speaker: Doom.

Speaker: Doom's kind of a reboot, right?

Speaker: That's a little bit more of a reboot.

Speaker: 2016 was a reboot.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: It's like it's taking the same concept, but just bringing it to the modern day.

Speaker: What?

Speaker: Because it's taking a franchise.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: yeah and like yeah it's giving it a lot of the same mechanics but also it's like complete like they they took something from yeah what was it the 80s or 90s completely different and they completely brought it into the modern age so at that point at that point you could kind of consider you could call it a remake yeah you could remake with with a rebooted story sure have you guys ever seen like what they um

Speaker: Have you guys seen what they were trying to do after Doom... I think it was Doom 3, the first... They tried to reboot it, and it ended up being kind of a slow, crawly horror game.

Speaker: Was Doom 3 supposed to be the reboot?

Speaker: Because I think Doom 3 was the first...

Speaker: That was their first, like, trying to go away from, like, that 2D, 3D.

Speaker: It's not 2D, 3D, but, like, that original 3D FPS look.

Speaker: The Windows XP maze screensaver version.

Speaker: Yeah, like that kind of thing.

Speaker: Yeah, flat textures.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: It was more of a horror game.

Speaker: Yeah, they made, like, a fully 3D environment.

Speaker: I actually really enjoyed it as a horror game.

Speaker: I agree.

Speaker: But...

Speaker: But it wasn't really the same as what had come before it.

Speaker: It was definitely not as fast-paced action combat-y as Doom is known to be.

Speaker: And Doom 2016 and then Doom Eternal both... Doom Eternal is just a... I don't want to say just a sequel to Doom, but it keeps that fast-paced action.

Speaker: It's the same vibe.

Speaker: When we say Doom 3 was more horror, it definitely had dead space aspects where...

Speaker: really dark corridors like you're you're kind of creeping through the game versus it's a little bit more psychological than running yeah yeah yeah which was like i think and i'm with you on that matt like i think it definitely is what no no no well for you yes for you for you yes it's not a horror game at all uh oh okay it's fine sunshine and sunshine and rainbows yeah doom guys doom guys pet bunny is named daisy

Speaker: Whoa.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Oh my God.

Speaker: I would love to see.

Speaker: Have you guys seen the, the doom guy and the animal crossing?

Speaker: Oh yeah.

Speaker: Oh, what's wrong?

Speaker: Cause they were coming out at the same time.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: I just, I got, I want, I want them to have their own game.

Speaker: That era.

Speaker: I would love to see that.

Speaker: That was the best.

Speaker: I mean, that era was great minus the fact that there was a global pandemic at its peak at that point.

Speaker: But, you know, other than that, other than that small thing.

Speaker: What pandemic?

Speaker: What are you talking about?

Speaker: That was pretty cool how they were both coming out at the same time.

Speaker: The community is just fucking rushed.

Speaker: Yeah, exactly.

Speaker: It was a wholesome moment in gaming.

Speaker: You don't get those a whole lot, at least not online.

Speaker: So that was nice.

Speaker: One last thing that I would want to say about Doom was, have you guys heard of

Speaker: It was in between Doom 3 and 2016 Doom where they were trying to re-reboot it.

Speaker: And they were trying to figure out what was going on.

Speaker: Call of Duty was really big at the time.

Speaker: And they essentially came out with some... It was essentially... It's been dubbed Call of Doom-y.

Speaker: Not to be confused with the porn version.

Speaker: Call of Doom me.

Speaker: Subscribe to Lyle's OnlyFans.

Speaker: Only Kranz.

Speaker: That's where I drink LaCroix on video.

Speaker: It's really a good thing that they didn't go with that and they came out with 2016 Doom instead.

Speaker: Just to further that, their next Doom project is called Doom Year Zero.

Speaker: Really looking forward to whatever they come out with next.

Speaker: Whatever the hell that is.

Speaker: Yeah, whatever that means.

Speaker: But yeah, no, your third one, Matt.

Speaker: Surprise.

Speaker: Opinions I have, but go on.

Speaker: Final Fantasy?

Speaker: Oh, yeah.

Speaker: Seven, specifically.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Well, because it's the fucking... Well, I didn't know if you wanted to say stuff about it first before I jumped in.

Speaker: I want to see what you got at this point.

Speaker: I'll come up with my stuff at this point.

Speaker: I feel like we left Steej out for a while.

Speaker: I don't know if you got much to say about what we've got so far.

Speaker: No, not really.

Speaker: You're doing great, Steej.

Speaker: I'm just listening to you.

Speaker: Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Speaker: And this is going to be hot takes, opinions galore.

Speaker: Feel free to agree, disagree, as always.

Speaker: And again, just my opinions.

Speaker: I'm not a fan of the fact that if you have something as big as

Speaker: A vision that Square Enix clearly has for Final Fantasy VII, the poster child of their franchise.

Speaker: Not necessarily the best game in the series, Final Fantasy VI.

Speaker: But Final Fantasy VII, this remake, they're doing three installments, full-priced installments for an entire game.

Speaker: which back in the day when it first came out, came on three discs, the complete package for the price of one full game.

Speaker: For one, yeah.

Speaker: Now people will make the argument, oh, but they're expounding on things that weren't in the original, like in these new versions, so you're getting more world building, more lore.

Speaker: Cool, fine, great.

Speaker: I don't really give a shit.

Speaker: I want...

Speaker: I want a complete package.

Speaker: If you want to do something like you've done with other Final Fantasy games, like Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XIII 2, do like Final Fantasy VII 2.

Speaker: Final Fantasies are different worlds and different stories told.

Speaker: So if you want to do more in the Final Fantasy VII world, at least do what you normally do with your nomenclature in Final Fantasy VII 2.

Speaker: Or do some of your Square Enix Kingdom Hearts bullshit and do it.

Speaker: final fantasy 7 redux 0.8 slash 365 out of seven and three quarters or whatever like it i i'm i would much prefer having a complete package that was previously prepared in a complete package format like i would pay a hundred dollars for three fucking ps5 discs of the complete final fantasy 7 not even a special edition like that's

Speaker: I know there would be a game industry uproar like, why are we paying $100 for one game?

Speaker: It's because it's fucking free.

Speaker: It's because it's Final Fantasy VII.

Speaker: So I loved Final Fantasy VII.

Speaker: That's what got me into Final Fantasy.

Speaker: Like the original?

Speaker: What?

Speaker: The original Final Fantasy VII?

Speaker: The original Final Fantasy VII, yes, on PlayStation 1.

Speaker: Oh, no.

Speaker: You alright?

Speaker: Yeah, I'm good.

Speaker: Are you cold?

Speaker: Is that what you said?

Speaker: Cold?

Speaker: No.

Speaker: Go get a blanket.

Speaker: No, I'm good.

Speaker: He already has one.

Speaker: Okay.

Speaker: Okay, so Final Fantasy 7 was the original was what got me into the Final Fantasy series of games.

Speaker: And I... It blew my mind when I got to a point where it was like put in the next disc.

Speaker: Like...

Speaker: How does it know to pick up where I left off?

Speaker: Yeah, no, no.

Speaker: Technologically, I was like, what the fuck?

Speaker: That's how I was with Resident Evil 4 on the GameCube.

Speaker: It's like putting in the second VHS of Lord of the Rings 3.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah, except it doesn't have to remember.

Speaker: Yeah, I know.

Speaker: But it was the same feeling.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: I never actually beat that.

Speaker: This movie was so goddamn long.

Speaker: I never actually beat Final Fantasy VII.

Speaker: I got all the way to the end and then there was this one thing that I didn't pick up on the spaceship when we were falling back.

Speaker: Okay, so that's the thing about Final Fantasy VII is you start in a city and then you're like, oh, this is just the game.

Speaker: I'm just going to go from this part of the city to this part of the city.

Speaker: And then it surprises you and it's like, holy shit, you can walk to another town

Speaker: Like whoa and that sounds insane that I would even think that that's crazy at the time it was crazy I mean not even at the time it was just like I was gonna say there was so much There was so much story that happened in the city yeah, and then there was blanking on the name

Speaker: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker: Okay, that makes sense.

Speaker: And then it was just like, there's more?

Speaker: It's going to keep going now?

Speaker: Yeah, and then you go over to another city and then you learn about the past and then you go to another one and then you could like, there's this freaking, there's like mini games inside of the overworld.

Speaker: And it just, there's constantly more and there's new places to go and new people to see and new people to become party members and there's all these different interlaced storylines that make it so...

Speaker: incredibly compelling.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Like there's a reason people love it.

Speaker: It was like, if that was a novel, if Final Fantasy VII was a novel, it would probably be longer than Game of Thrones.

Speaker: Like... I believe it.

Speaker: The book series.

Speaker: I think so.

Speaker: And I hadn't even seen everything.

Speaker: I remember watching the movie that they made.

Speaker: It was like, oh, this is kind of like what happens after.

Speaker: And then there were characters in... Did you see the movie?

Speaker: is it Type Zero or no Advent Children yes Advent Children I've not seen it I just happen to somehow know what it's called Advent Children I don't know where you pulled that from but that's exactly what it is

Speaker: I watched that and I remember playing the game and loving all the characters and then there were like characters in there that I had never seen before and I was like, there was more still?

Speaker: They can make more people up?

Speaker: It was just... It's an expansive world that they've built.

Speaker: And it's also a really compelling world, not just because it's as expansive as it is, but...

Speaker: Maybe it is just because it's as expensive.

Speaker: But I mean, the characters are interesting.

Speaker: They all have depth.

Speaker: They have growth.

Speaker: There aren't many wasted characters.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Like, I can't think of a single one except for the ones that I never saw, I guess.

Speaker: But maybe I'm wrong about those.

Speaker: It's like Sid.

Speaker: He like has a space thing.

Speaker: Anyway.

Speaker: But there's also a Sid in every single Final Fantasy game.

Speaker: I did not know that, but that makes sense now that I think about it.

Speaker: Yep.

Speaker: I also played Final Fantasy X and that one was awesome too.

Speaker: And I actually own, to call back a little bit, I own the Final Fantasy X remake on Steam and I play, I never finished Final Fantasy X. God damn, they're long games, but I still love them.

Speaker: So is it a remake?

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: That was a that was an upscale.

Speaker: It wasn't a remake It was it was just like they enhanced the textures and they didn't really give they didn't give you the button like my Minecraft collection.

Speaker: No master chief collection collection edition change filters at the push of a button

Speaker: I've never actually played it.

Speaker: I've never actually played the egg.

Speaker: I bought it thinking I would play it and I just didn't.

Speaker: Sir, to give the creepers back their bomb.

Speaker: The creepers back their creeper.

Speaker: Mr. Steve, what are you doing aboard that ship?

Speaker: Yeah, but yeah with the new Final Fantasy it's just fucking stupid.

Speaker: It's just like what like I need them to if they are going to remake Final Fantasy 7 they have to give me the whole freaking game like

Speaker: I understand technological issues and all it, but I don't know, man.

Speaker: The stuff that they're able to come out with nowadays, it's again, it's a product of the industry that we currently exist in.

Speaker: If they can milk it across three games, they're going to milk it across three games.

Speaker: And hell, it might not even be done with that.

Speaker: It doesn't seem like they're on pace to do it in three games.

Speaker: Well, because they also did...

Speaker: They got like hard, hardly like a third of the way through what would have been on the first disc.

Speaker: They did the first game.

Speaker: They did Final Fantasy seven remake and then they came out with Final Fantasy seven remake intergrade, which was like Yuffie's story.

Speaker: So it was another kind of like side story DLC, but semi full game kind of.

Speaker: I can't remember how short it was.

Speaker: And then they remade a crisis core.

Speaker: which I think is also a Final Fantasy.

Speaker: I'm not a Final Fantasy 7 pro, by the way, audience, if you couldn't tell.

Speaker: Crisis Core, which I think was a PSP game.

Speaker: But that actually brings me to another point, is when they do remakes and remasters and stuff, a good remake and a good remaster, the devs really have to consider what content, if any, they're willing to cut.

Speaker: or what they're willing to leave in, uh, just because it's either a cultural staple or, uh, it's become part of meme culture for, for whatever reason.

Speaker: Um, now all I can think of is, is cloud cross dressing.

Speaker: And, and I don't know if you remember that part.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: At the, at the honeybee, that's going to be one of the, that was, yeah, that was the biggest parts.

Speaker: Uh, people are stupidly happy about that.

Speaker: Anyway, leave that in.

Speaker: I don't even know.

Speaker: They did.

Speaker: They did.

Speaker: I played the first game.

Speaker: I played the first game.

Speaker: It was good.

Speaker: But that was another part of the controversy when it first came out, right?

Speaker: Not only that it was stretching across multiple games, but because they wanted to make it an action combat game.

Speaker: So there is no turn-based combat.

Speaker: Final Fantasy is a staple series that has been built upon its turn-based combat.

Speaker: I, me, Lyle,

Speaker: uh i'm a little bit of a traditionalist in that sense with my rpgs i enjoy turn-based combat octopath traveler um like classic pokemon um older final fantasy games like that to me is kind of staple rpg uh and you know for square enix's vision for the game they definitely integrated not to not to make a pun on the second part on the second game that came out uh

Speaker: they definitely interwove and they've moved, moved, they moved, uh, they, they interwoved the action style gameplay pretty well into, into the game.

Speaker: And I like, I, I definitely give it that.

Speaker: Um, it was crisp.

Speaker: It was pretty, uh, but it, it always consistently, it always constantly felt like it was missing something because I wanted turn-based, but,

Speaker: Anyway, Steej, how was your day?

Speaker: My name is Steej.

Speaker: Hey, buddy.

Speaker: Hi.

Speaker: I had another Master Chief Minecraft collection quip I wanted to make.

Speaker: It's too late.

Speaker: It's not going to be funny anymore because it's way past it.

Speaker: But I wanted to say, sir, we have to finish this villager trading hall.

Speaker: I need a pickaxe.

Speaker: I need a pickaxe.

Speaker: Master Steve, you mind telling me what you're doing on that ship?

Speaker: Sir, mining this diamond.

Speaker: nah but i mean so this mob farm steej are there any remakes and or remasters that either you are currently tracking and or want to play in the future or you know that you you played an older game in the past and you're like oh man if they remade this if they even even just hdified this brought it to a modern console brought it to steam or whatever um

Speaker: just so I didn't have to shove my PS1 up my butt to make it work.

Speaker: What would it be?

Speaker: That's usually what I do.

Speaker: Some people blow on the cartridge or use toothpaste on the disc.

Speaker: No, just a good old enema will do the trick.

Speaker: Yeah, that's your tech tip of the day right there.

Speaker: It works.

Speaker: Yeah, tech tip of the day.

Speaker: Shove your PS4 up your ass.

Speaker: Do it.

Speaker: No reason, just do it.

Speaker: Do it.

Speaker: Get the rounded PS1, actually.

Speaker: Like it's described.

Speaker: The DualShock controller with the vibration feature?

Speaker: Now we're talking.

Speaker: They don't call it mad cats for nothing.

Speaker: Just don't tell your little brother that that's the one he uses.

Speaker: We might have broke Steege, I don't know.

Speaker: No, I'm still here.

Speaker: I'm right here.

Speaker: I wanted to talk about Pokemon.

Speaker: Pokemon, let's go.

Speaker: Hey, this is a new topic for the podcast.

Speaker: Let's go.

Speaker: Yeah, we've never talked about Pokemon before.

Speaker: It's me, your resident Pokemon guy.

Speaker: Just like Lyle's the resident.

Speaker: Oh, you like Pokemon?

Speaker: Name all of them.

Speaker: Oh, God.

Speaker: Bulbasaur.

Speaker: Ivysaur.

Speaker: Venusaur.

Speaker: Charmander did I do them out of order?

Speaker: you're doing great Steej you got them all only 937 to go I think we're at a thousand we are at a thousand that was an incorrect number that I shared my bad I'm a fake fan faker I'm a fake fan I'm a faker using the faker because you're wearing the shadow shirt true so I wanted to talk about did you shoot a kid recently?

Speaker: sorry never mind keep going

Speaker: What let's move wait about Pokemon and then we'll come back to shadow

Speaker: I'll get you more details.

Speaker: The shadow of this life.

Speaker: Okay.

Speaker: So, yeah, I wanted to talk about one of my favorite games of all time, which is Pokemon SoulSilver.

Speaker: Oh, fuck yeah.

Speaker: Because it is probably one of the best remakes of an IP that I have personally played.

Speaker: And it is a game that has stuck with me for forever.

Speaker: And I also, going with today's theme, I wanted to maybe compare that a little bit to a Pokemon game that didn't do as well whenever it came to doing a remake, which is Pokemon Brilliant Diamonds and Shining Pearl.

Speaker: I forgot about that one, honestly.

Speaker: Yeah, right?

Speaker: So did everyone else.

Speaker: So...

Speaker: what made Pokemon Soul Silver and HeartGold great is they did what we talked about at the very beginning of this podcast where they took something that was already really good and they made it, they added things to it to make it even better.

Speaker: But not only did they just add, because there are a few things that they just added, like the Pokeathlon, which was honestly one of the most fun parts of that game.

Speaker: I fucking loved the Pokeathlon.

Speaker: Bad name, fun game.

Speaker: If you don't know what the Pokeathlon is, it was basically like the Pokemon Olympics.

Speaker: There was like 16 mini games.

Speaker: There was a ton.

Speaker: It was a ton of extra content that they just threw into the game and it was so fun.

Speaker: But...

Speaker: It's not just what I mean, there's that things that they just added.

Speaker: But also what I really liked about it is they took existing story elements and they compounded them on each other to make the story of Pokemon Silver even more cohesive.

Speaker: Like, the original Pokemon Gold and Silver story was pretty straightforward.

Speaker: I mean, you start, like any other Pokemon game, you start in your hometown, you have a rival.

Speaker: In this case, it's a direct sequel to the Gen 1 Pokemon.

Speaker: Morty, shut the fuck up.

Speaker: It's a direct sequel to the Gen 1 Pokemon.

Speaker: I swear to God, dude, that cat.

Speaker: He's got a lot to say about Pokemon, man.

Speaker: I know, so do I. He's like, Steej, Steej, I'm in.

Speaker: Steej, did you talk about the Pokemon yet?

Speaker: Yes!

Speaker: But, so, one of the really cool things that they did is they took the already pretty good story, and they took pieces of, like, the side stories, and they actually made it part of the main story.

Speaker: So the biggest thing was...

Speaker: I'm gonna fucking lose my goddamn mind.

Speaker: Is it the cat?

Speaker: Yes!

Speaker: Morty, shut up!

Speaker: He's so distracting!

Speaker: Oh my god, I'm so sorry.

Speaker: Ever since Steve started talking, he's gotten louder and more frequent.

Speaker: He's so loud!

Speaker: I don't know what's... He's really into Pokemon, I think.

Speaker: Please.

Speaker: Yeah, let me...

Speaker: Keep talking keep talking to be here for like a baby keep talking 20 minutes.

Speaker: We're talking keep talking bring a man.

Speaker: That's fine.

Speaker: He's a good.

Speaker: He's good boy poor guy Come on.

Speaker: I gotta get louder.

Speaker: Oh Is he gonna bring him in?

Speaker: Are we gonna get a special guest appearance?

Speaker: Oh?

Speaker: He's just a he's just a boy He's a tiny void

Speaker: Oh, man.

Speaker: Anyone who's listening that isn't a YouTube subscriber is missing out on some cat right now.

Speaker: Yeah, dude.

Speaker: That's just a fluffy, dark void with eyes on it.

Speaker: Watch.

Speaker: It's because I closed the door.

Speaker: He's going to go sit next to the door.

Speaker: And start meowing.

Speaker: Probably.

Speaker: I would like out now.

Speaker: The test of this will be I'll start talking and then we'll see if he starts meowing.

Speaker: Well, you have to talk about Pokemon though.

Speaker: Yeah, well, of course.

Speaker: I mean, what else would I talk about?

Speaker: This is all decoded.

Speaker: So...

Speaker: what the fuck was that god damn you morty the pokeathlon yeah no that's not what i was talking about no they took parts of what um were just kind of side items of the original pokemon silver and i keep saying silver because that's the one i played um the biggest one being there it is there it is keep going keep going keep going oh

Speaker: Silver.

Speaker: Pokemon Silver.

Speaker: The biggest part of it being the dancers that you fight against in, I believe it's Ecruteak Town.

Speaker: I might be getting that wrong.

Speaker: Are they break dancers or just like ballerinas?

Speaker: No, they're like the Kimono Girls.

Speaker: That's what they were called.

Speaker: They were called the Kimono Girls.

Speaker: Was it Ecruteak?

Speaker: Is that what city it was?

Speaker: That is a city in that game that I remember, but I don't know if it was the dancers specifically.

Speaker: That's fine.

Speaker: Anyway, in the original Pokemon Silver and Gold, you just fight.

Speaker: They're just a side quest.

Speaker: Like you visit the town, you fight them after you beat them.

Speaker: That's how you get Surf, I think.

Speaker: The guy who owns the studio like gives you Surf after beating all of them because they each have a different Eeveelution.

Speaker: That's how they showcase the two new Eeveelutions that they added, Espeon and Umbreon.

Speaker: There were five of the trainers, five of the girls, and each one had a different Eeveelution because there was only five at that point, right?

Speaker: So in Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver, they actually took them and then made them part of the game, like part of the main storyline of

Speaker: I can't remember exactly how.

Speaker: It's been a little while since I've played the games.

Speaker: All I remember is they actually became a big part of it and they compounded on the narrative of the story.

Speaker: Matt, are you even fucking paying attention?

Speaker: I'm listening.

Speaker: They compounded on the narrative of the story.

Speaker: The dancers, you beat them and they got the... It's Eeveelutions.

Speaker: It's Eeveelutionary.

Speaker: I'm fine.

Speaker: I know what you're talking about, Steej.

Speaker: It was great, okay?

Speaker: It was.

Speaker: Let's talk about Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, which honestly... These are all also Pokemon games that I never played, just for... Did you ever play Diamond and Pearl?

Speaker: Did you play that?

Speaker: That was like Gen 4.

Speaker: Did you play Gen 4?

Speaker: No.

Speaker: Okay.

Speaker: Well, that's fine.

Speaker: I played Gen 1 and Gen 2.

Speaker: Well, now you know how I feel because I didn't play any of the games you talked about.

Speaker: So shut up and let me talk about some games I want to listen to.

Speaker: Morty.

Speaker: Yeah, you're like Morty.

Speaker: Burning Diamond and Shining Pearl.

Speaker: Diamond and Pearl are great games.

Speaker: They're great Pokemon games.

Speaker: I think the...

Speaker: The biggest difference between what they did whenever remaking Gen 4 and remaking Gen 2, which is the one I like, they didn't do anything with it.

Speaker: Like, they remade it for the new console.

Speaker: They remade Diamond and Pearl for the Switch.

Speaker: But they didn't do shit with it.

Speaker: Like...

Speaker: The one thing that they updated really well was the underground.

Speaker: There was like this cool.

Speaker: You could meet this guy and he gave you like this item that allowed you to go underground and travel through these underground system of tunnels and you could make a secret base and you could find you could do like archaeological base.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Well, you could actually do that in Gen 3, too.

Speaker: I never went into Gen 3.

Speaker: I don't think you could do it.

Speaker: It wasn't as extensive as it was in Brilliant Diamond and Shiny Pearl.

Speaker: Well, in Gen 3, you could do it in the overworld.

Speaker: There was a bunch of different places throughout the world.

Speaker: That was also really cool.

Speaker: Trees, caves.

Speaker: In Gen 4, you could only make a base in the underground, and you could collect little statues and decorations and stuff and decorate your base.

Speaker: It was really cool.

Speaker: And they added online functionality so you could play with your friends and you could visit each other's bases.

Speaker: It was pretty neat.

Speaker: They kind of remade that in Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl for the Switch, right?

Speaker: But that's, as far as I'm aware, the only thing that they really improved upon.

Speaker: Everything else from the beginning to the end of that game, the remake, is just the same as it was previously.

Speaker: When it was when it originally came out on the on the DS, like they didn't do anything with it.

Speaker: And I think one of the biggest except it was like a visual overhaul, though, right?

Speaker: Well, yeah.

Speaker: I mean, yeah, they visually overhauled it.

Speaker: And even then, like that visual overhaul is pretty divisive.

Speaker: They really impressive.

Speaker: Well, they went for the overworld.

Speaker: They went with like this chibi look.

Speaker: And like, I didn't hate it, but I also didn't really love it.

Speaker: I don't know.

Speaker: I don't know how well it really fit.

Speaker: But I mean, that wasn't the worst thing in the world.

Speaker: I think a lot of people were upset, mostly, that rather than remaking using Platinum's storyline, so for those of you who don't know...

Speaker: Back in the day, Pokemon games used to come out with two different versions at the same time.

Speaker: And then maybe like half a year later, they would release a third version that usually compounded on the story a little bit.

Speaker: It would have like something different about it.

Speaker: It would add a new area.

Speaker: It would add some new characters.

Speaker: It would shift the storyline a little bit.

Speaker: You had crystal, platinum.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Yellow.

Speaker: You had blue, red, yellow.

Speaker: I forget yellow.

Speaker: Yeah, yellow is great.

Speaker: Yellow is like one of the only ones I have right now.

Speaker: Yellow and I think red I have as well.

Speaker: So platinum really focused on...

Speaker: I pronounce the legendaries named Geratna.

Speaker: A lot of people say Giratina.

Speaker: It's Giratina.

Speaker: I think that is how it's pronounced.

Speaker: But I've been saying Geratna since I was a kid.

Speaker: So that's just how I say it.

Speaker: I understand it's incorrect.

Speaker: Is that like a millipede looking thing?

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: He's like a dragon dark type.

Speaker: He's one of the coolest legendaries in my opinion.

Speaker: My dyslexia did not allow me to pronounce Ho-Oh.

Speaker: So I called him Ho-Ho.

Speaker: Ho-Ho.

Speaker: Like the snack cake?

Speaker: I get it, honestly.

Speaker: I probably thought the same thing.

Speaker: So, a lot of people were upset that since they were completely remaking these games or remastered, whatever you want to call it at this point.

Speaker: Revamping.

Speaker: Yeah, they were revamping these games.

Speaker: Why didn't they use the superior story?

Speaker: I guess it's a little bit subjective, but it's kind of objective because that's literally what Platinum was.

Speaker: They were taking the story of Diamond and Pearl and they were adding on to it.

Speaker: to make it better and like more cohesive and more content you know they added on to it and so it's just like whenever they revamped these games why did they not go with platinum storyline the quote-unquote better story definitive i never thought i i never played pokemon for this story

Speaker: I played Pokemon to capture Pokemon and upgrade my Pokemon and when they started adding more Pokemon I I was I started to lose it a little bit because I was like

Speaker: I mean, you can have both.

Speaker: You said you gotta catch them all, and this was your game.

Speaker: They've kinda dropped that.

Speaker: And I caught them all.

Speaker: They've kinda dropped that moniker, though.

Speaker: Yeah, they have.

Speaker: They don't do the whole gotta catch them all thing anymore.

Speaker: I don't know if you ever noticed that.

Speaker: What the fuck?

Speaker: That's all Pokemon is!

Speaker: It's not reasonable!

Speaker: It's like a thousand Pokemon!

Speaker: Yeah!

Speaker: Stop making more Pokemon and make better game!

Speaker: I mean, that's a whole, that's also quantity versus quality.

Speaker: So already had, but I don't know.

Speaker: I don't think we have enough, honestly.

Speaker: Yeah, I agree.

Speaker: But yeah, so if we're drawing, if what we're talking about is remakes and we're drawing the, you know, the comparisons between the two.

Speaker: the gen 2 remakes the soul silver heart gold they they took it and ran with it they made something really cool out of something that already existed they took elements of the story and kind of combined them to make something that was fresh with something that already existed and it was really awesome whereas with diamond and pearl they were just like ah we'll update the underground you guys like that shit right and that was pretty much it like and you know i

Speaker: With the technology that they have, with the ability that they have, with them showing that they already have the ability to take a specific game and make it even better.

Speaker: And then they did that shit with Diamond and Pearl, or Brilliant Diamond, or whatever it's called, the Shining Pearl.

Speaker: Shining shit and not so brilliant.

Speaker: Yeah, you can shine shit, it's still shit, right?

Speaker: Brilliant.

Speaker: I think that...

Speaker: Remember how you were talking about how back in the day they would release two games at a time and then they'd have a third one that would expound?

Speaker: Yeah, they don't do that anymore.

Speaker: They did with Pokemon Let's Go Eevee and Let's Go Pikachu.

Speaker: What was the third one?

Speaker: No, they didn't.

Speaker: Well, they did the two at least, and then it got absolutely shitty views.

Speaker: Well, they still do.

Speaker: The two things still happens, because Sword and Shields, Scarlet and Violet.

Speaker: Because they want to sell as many games as possible.

Speaker: And they've been doing that since Red and Blue.

Speaker: They have version exclusive Pokemon that you can only get on one version or the other.

Speaker: I mean, I guess these days, it's not as big of a deal, because there's so much online functionality.

Speaker: Barely, Nintendo.

Speaker: But there is still online functionality and you can easily barely trade with people using online functionality.

Speaker: So there's online capabilities.

Speaker: My capability.

Speaker: There we go.

Speaker: You can actually do it or whether it's intuitive is completely subjective.

Speaker: Yeah, exactly.

Speaker: Funnily enough, like they,

Speaker: they did that with zelda back in the day too or they tried to because they they did legend of zelda oracle of seasons and oracle of ages and they wanted to do a third one um but they never ended up doing the third and you could do online stuff between the two uh game boy advance games um but that also like brings up because you because you mentioned you know uh shining shiny shit and

Speaker: uh, the other one, uh, don links legend of Zelda links awakening.

Speaker: That one dong brilliant.

Speaker: Um, links, uh, links coming of age awakening, um, his cabaret awakening.

Speaker: He, no, they, they remade that.

Speaker: Like that was a remake as well.

Speaker: And that was brought to the switch.

Speaker: Cause that was originally on the game boy.

Speaker: Um, and they actually had a couple of, a couple of versions of it,

Speaker: because they had the Game Boy version, which was black and white, and then they had a Game Boy Color version, which was Link's Awakening DX.

Speaker: And then for the Switch, they did the Brilliant Diamond kind of treatment to it, made it cutesy and kind of chibi.

Speaker: And that was also kind of a divisive release when it came out.

Speaker: Personally, I really enjoyed it.

Speaker: I didn't hate it.

Speaker: I didn't dislike it.

Speaker: I understood where it came from.

Speaker: I didn't play it, but I wanted to.

Speaker: But I also didn't play the original.

Speaker: It has the shortness of a Game Boy game, because it's a Game Boy game.

Speaker: But the cool part about Link's Awakening was that it had... It kind of did a Legend of Zelda dungeon builder type minigame thing within it.

Speaker: I don't really remember the full breadth of it.

Speaker: No, that's not a breadth of the... No, shut the fuck up.

Speaker: But people were upset that it wasn't a full-scale Legend of Zelda dungeon creator.

Speaker: Um, they, they, a lot of people feel like that was a missed opportunity with, with, uh, with the, like the technology that they have on the switch, um, bringing such a, I guess a smaller scale game to its system.

Speaker: Um, but yeah, that's really, I mean, like I said, I, I really liked breath of the earth breath of the wild.

Speaker: God damn you.

Speaker: I also liked a while, but I really liked, I did like the links awakening, uh, remake on the, on the switch.

Speaker: Um,

Speaker: Speaking of Nintendo games and remakes, I saw a bit of a pattern, I thought, when we were going from SNES to the N64, where everything was getting the 3D treatment.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: I really feel like Pokemon got the short end of the stick on.

Speaker: Pokemon was not on the SNES.

Speaker: Oh, sorry.

Speaker: Well, going from 2D to 3D.

Speaker: Going from 2D to 3D era, timeline-wise.

Speaker: Sure, sure.

Speaker: Yeah, you know what I mean.

Speaker: So yeah, Pokemon wasn't on the SNES.

Speaker: That's a very good point, but it was on the Game Boy.

Speaker: When it came to the N64, which already kind of seems kind of interesting off the bat, it got an arena battle.

Speaker: And yeah, it took kind of the core gameplay there.

Speaker: And the photography.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Oh, you're talking about Pokemon.

Speaker: You're talking about that first-person shooter.

Speaker: The classic N64 FPS.

Speaker: It's on rails, but it's still a first-person shooter, guys.

Speaker: I stand by that statement.

Speaker: Anyway.

Speaker: It's a rail shooter.

Speaker: Bring that back.

Speaker: But I really think that Pokemon got the short end of the stick when it came to the N64.

Speaker: I don't think anybody wanted Pokemon Snap.

Speaker: I don't think anybody was asking for Pokemon Snap.

Speaker: But they liked that they got it, though.

Speaker: That's fine.

Speaker: But looking at, let's say we have Mario, 2D Mario coming to the N64.

Speaker: We have an amazing game, Mario 64.

Speaker: Zelda coming from 2D Zelda.

Speaker: Do they have an SNES?

Speaker: Yeah, Link to the Past.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Link to the Past?

Speaker: Okay.

Speaker: Came out in 91.

Speaker: It's a good year.

Speaker: It's a good year.

Speaker: Did they remake that for the DS?

Speaker: Link to the Past?

Speaker: No, there was a sequel called Link Between Worlds, which was also really well-received.

Speaker: I think that's the one that I played.

Speaker: That's like the isometric 2.5D one, where it's like a 3D.

Speaker: No, it was 2D.

Speaker: What I was playing on the DS was 2D.

Speaker: Well, it's still... Oh, Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks...

Speaker: Those are the two DS ones.

Speaker: That doesn't sound right.

Speaker: One is you're also in a boat, which was a Wind Waker sequel, and Spirit Tracks was also a Wind Waker sequel, but you were on a train.

Speaker: None of that sounds right.

Speaker: Those were the two DS games.

Speaker: Anyway, just taking the idea of 2D Zelda.

Speaker: No, you're fine, Lyle.

Speaker: You said everything right, but none of it is clicking in my brain, and it might be the beer.

Speaker: It's fine.

Speaker: It's fine.

Speaker: 2D Zelda coming to 64.

Speaker: We got Ocarina of Time, an amazing adventure.

Speaker: Mario 64, an amazing adventure.

Speaker: Pokemon Stadium, a stadium battle game.

Speaker: There's no adventure in it.

Speaker: I wanted a Pokemon adventure game.

Speaker: Maybe it just didn't have the technology.

Speaker: That's also true.

Speaker: that might have been a lot i mean because think of like how many things they have had the program they had the program in 151 i would agree with you matt if if it were like if somehow time could kind of get lost there and you went from like 2d to like the gamecube with the gamecube technology i think the gamecube might have been able to was there a pokemon game on the gamecube

Speaker: Yeah, it was Shadows of Darkness or... Gale of Darkness, Coliseum.

Speaker: But they were both also battle arenas, I believe.

Speaker: Yeah, I mean, that's what I'm saying.

Speaker: But that's what I mean.

Speaker: I think the technology was there.

Speaker: They were just expounding upon the idea of like, oh, we came to 3D, let's just do a battle arena again.

Speaker: We're just going to make it upscaled again.

Speaker: It's almost a remaster.

Speaker: Hardly anything to do with...

Speaker: I mean, aren't you the one who literally just said you didn't give a shit about Pokemon story and all you wanted to do is catch Pokemon and battle with them?

Speaker: I don't give a shit about Pokemon story because they have not ever fucking delivered on it for me.

Speaker: What?

Speaker: The door is open.

Speaker: Why is he still fucking meowing?

Speaker: You've played one Pokemon game.

Speaker: What do you mean they've never delivered on it?

Speaker: You've played like two Pokemon games.

Speaker: I've played, I think, about five Pokemon games.

Speaker: What are you...

Speaker: So I played, I haven't finished them.

Speaker: Well, hold on, hold on.

Speaker: Have you played five different games?

Speaker: I don't know how you're counting played because I've never finished like most games.

Speaker: Hold on.

Speaker: Have you played five different Pokemon games or five different Pokemon generations?

Speaker: Not generations.

Speaker: Well, there you go.

Speaker: Because I would consider playing Red and Blue.

Speaker: That's the same game.

Speaker: I'm not going to fucking buy into that because all they did was they doubled down on quantity versus quality.

Speaker: All they did was make, hey, here's another fucking load of new Pokemon.

Speaker: Fuck you.

Speaker: You're going to buy it because we told you to catch them all.

Speaker: Right, but if you're saying you played Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue, you can't say you played two Pokemon games.

Speaker: We can kill this.

Speaker: What games did you play?

Speaker: We can figure this out.

Speaker: Hold on.

Speaker: We'll get to what Siege is asking in a minute.

Speaker: Red, blue, and yellow.

Speaker: All the same game.

Speaker: That's literally the same game three times.

Speaker: No, it's not.

Speaker: Yellow has a little bit of difference.

Speaker: Red and blue are the same.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Yellow Pikachu.

Speaker: It's the same generation.

Speaker: Pikachu can follow you and that's it.

Speaker: Literally the only differences that Pokemon Yellow had from what I remember is the fact that you start with Pikachu instead of one of the three starters.

Speaker: And then throughout the game, you were able to just get all three of the starters.

Speaker: Obtain all three starters.

Speaker: And there might have been like some slight story differences, but not really.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: That's what I'm saying is I wasn't playing those games for the story.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: That doesn't help your point.

Speaker: That doesn't help your point.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: There's a difference between story, leveling up my characters, and adventure.

Speaker: There was adventure in those first games.

Speaker: And a lot of that had to do with leveling up and finding new areas.

Speaker: And it didn't have to do with the story.

Speaker: There weren't compelling characters that were doing compelling things and changing themselves and the world around them.

Speaker: So there was no character development aside from the player character developing over the game.

Speaker: Got it.

Speaker: Go on.

Speaker: And hardly even that.

Speaker: The only thing that was developing with him was he was...

Speaker: Well, you're a silent protagonist, too.

Speaker: Yeah, it's like saying... So is... Zelda.

Speaker: The guy Zelda.

Speaker: So is Link.

Speaker: So is Link, but he also has... I mean, at least in Ocarina of Time... Does he really have character development?

Speaker: Does he really?

Speaker: I don't know.

Speaker: I'd have to think about it for a minute.

Speaker: I wouldn't say he does, depending on the game.

Speaker: I mean, maybe in some of the games.

Speaker: He's pretty one-dimensional.

Speaker: All right.

Speaker: All right.

Speaker: The most I love that.

Speaker: So tangent tangent.

Speaker: I really wanted.

Speaker: I really wanted Breath of the Wild to.

Speaker: So, you know, the old guy, the first guy you meet in Breath of the Wild, he's the old man.

Speaker: He gives you the glider or whatever.

Speaker: Cool.

Speaker: King Daddy.

Speaker: I mean... I really, really wanted him to be Ganon.

Speaker: Daddy's nuts.

Speaker: I wanted him to be Ganon.

Speaker: Because in the lore of who Link, Zelda, and Ganon all represent, there's power... The Triforce.

Speaker: Power, courage, and wisdom.

Speaker: Thank you.

Speaker: So Link is courage.

Speaker: Zelda is wisdom.

Speaker: And power is Ganon.

Speaker: Power is not... Each of those things are not inherently evil.

Speaker: I would love to have seen a version of the game where they... Like...

Speaker: I, I, I would love to see a version of the game where like Zelda and Ganon are in love and Link just has to like come to terms with that.

Speaker: I could direct you to some fanfics, bro.

Speaker: No, I'm, I,

Speaker: It's not exactly what I'm looking for.

Speaker: The community is way ahead of you.

Speaker: I feel you.

Speaker: I feel you on that.

Speaker: But I would love to see something like that actually implement, not that specifically, but I would love to see them expand on that idea where you have those power, wisdom, and courage, and you dive a little bit deeper into them instead of just always making courage the person who saves the day every single time.

Speaker: Like, maybe there's a situation that actually requires you to use power or needs to lean more into wisdom.

Speaker: Like...

Speaker: I would love to see them fuck with the Triforce a bit.

Speaker: You know?

Speaker: I mean, that's not a bad idea, honestly.

Speaker: I mean, that's... Basically, like... I mean, if it's going to be a reincarnation every time, and obviously it's not the exact same story, but it's the same premise.

Speaker: It's always Link as the hero.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: And so, like, what if, like, Zelda was the villain?

Speaker: And you have to team up with Ganon.

Speaker: Yeah, like, what if Wisdom got out of control or out of balance?

Speaker: What if Zelda was the girl?

Speaker: I could direct you some fan fiction.

Speaker: Just complete gender swap.

Speaker: And on that, I think we should wrap it up.

Speaker: Lyle, why don't you take us out?

Speaker: Tell them where they can find us.

Speaker: Steej, any final thoughts before I wrap this up?

Speaker: Wait, I'm almost at the top.

Speaker: My final thoughts are Matt needs to play more Pokemon games.

Speaker: Matt, you got anything?

Speaker: That wasn't- that wasn't- those weren't all of my Pokemon games.

Speaker: There are other ones, but we'll- we'll save that for another one.

Speaker: Um, I just- that's just where I started, and apparently they're all the same game.

Speaker: Yeah, I also played the green version, which is the Japanese version of yellow, which is also red and blue.

Speaker: Yeah, I'm aware of that one.

Speaker: Haven't played it.

Speaker: I also played Fire Red and Leaf Green.

Speaker: Which are completely different games.

Speaker: Totally.

Speaker: Yeah, what do I have to say?

Speaker: Yeah, if you're going to remake your game, do what Master Chief Collection did.

Speaker: Don't do anything else.

Speaker: Fuck you.

Speaker: Love you.

Speaker: Bye.

Speaker: Yeah, and I would have to actually agree with that sentiment.

Speaker: Do something cool, stick with it.

Speaker: Look at what other remakes, remasters have done.

Speaker: See what works and see what doesn't work.

Speaker: Don't split your full experience just to...

Speaker: milk the cash cow that's already dry square enix um literally every game developer out there right now trying to make a profit make art i mean that's not to go without saying like we understand corporations want your money like they don't care about the consumer that goes that goes without saying anyway theoretically like in rumint rumor has it uh who sings that song anyway um adele that's right

Speaker: But Ocarina of Time is theoretically, as well as Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages, people are theorizing that these are next games in the Zelda series to get either remakes, remasters, or whatever.

Speaker: So let that be some discourse for you.

Speaker: Would you want Ocarina of Time, one of probably gaming's best games ever gamed?

Speaker: to get the final fantasy seven treatment, so to speak, good or bad.

Speaker: Uh, but yeah, I'm, uh, on, uh, the internet.

Speaker: Steej is on the internet.

Speaker: Matt's sometimes on the internet.

Speaker: Uh, we're oddly coded and we'll see you next week.

Speaker: Okay.

Speaker: Bye.

Speaker: Bye.

Speaker: Bye.

Speaker: Hey, you think maybe with a remake they would make Ocarina of Time better?

Speaker: It's hard to... It's maybe a 5 out of 10 right now, so you think they could bring it up?

Speaker: It's hard to expound on perfection, so probably not.

Speaker: I doubt that they can make it any better.

Speaker: They do make some guitar amps.

Speaker: You can turn it up to 11 out of 10, so we'll see.
