Optimizing Door-Knocking in Senior Communities

Yeah, let's jump straight into the content today and I apologize if you are watching the video version, maybe this is being seen on YouTube, but you might notice I got a red swollen eye here and that is because I just got out of a solar appointment myself.

These people, they had 10 cats running around and anyone that knows me, I am like 10.

So if people have friendly cats that jump on me, which these people did, then I'm in trouble.

So anyways, that's why I have a red eye going on.

Let's talk about this strategy that's helped me just double my efficiency, something I've been implementing lately and thinking about.

A lot of people aren't doing this.

You might notice when you go out in the afternoons, when are the most productive times?

When are more people home?

Typically, it's like 4.30, 5-ish to 8, right?

Or dark whenever you're knocking.

Hopefully past dark if you're a heavy hitter, right?

So what about those hours from like 1 to 4 when not as many people are home?

It's just kind of the housewives.

You got to pick and choose your doors.

Hopefully, you find ways to be as efficient as possible, okay?

And everyone should be implementing just, you know, being more picky about the homes you knock during those hours.

Go into homes where it looks like multiple cars are home.

looking for signs of life everyone should be doing that at the very least but here's how you supercharge this take it to another level and this is something i recently started doing okay go to your computer i'm gonna give you step by step here

Whatever areas you're knocking, whatever cities you're in, go Google 55 plus communities.

Okay, that is age 55 and older.

You're going to see all these old folks communities where it's primarily senior citizens.

And what are you going to do?

From the hours of one to four, you're going to go hit up these old folks because guess what?

These people are retired.

They're not doing anything.
00:05:14

They're home during the day and they're probably going to bed early in the evening anyways.

So you're going to hit up these people.

Hey, recently we've been hitting up some old folks communities.

And as I was thinking about it, I'm like, man, everyone's home here.

We're knocking like early afternoon.

Like everybody's home.

What am I doing?

So here's the strategy from the hours of one to four.

Of course, this is weekdays, Saturdays, holidays, you should be hitting communities earlier, right?

But you go, you hit up these people, you hit them that you are the senior citizen program, make them feel special, make them feel like it's a program for them.

And you're talking to way more people.

And that's it.

Matter of fact, I got kicked out of one last week.

So here's some pro tips as you are out knocking these old fogies.

We love them.

The senior citizens, they are forefathers.

They taught our previous generations.

We got to give them respect, right?

So number one, be respectful.

But number two, you got to have extreme credibility for why you are in that neighborhood.

A mistake I made is I typically I don't knock with like a name tag.

I just kind of go with the flow.

I keep it pretty casual out there.

But let me tell you, with old folks, you got to be looking like a pro.

You got to be looking extremely legit because if you don't, you're getting the cops called.

You're getting people kicking you out of there.

And a lot of these neighborhoods, they are at least out here where I'm at in California.

A lot of them are like no soliciting neighborhoods.

So you got to watch out.

That's why if you're going to knock these neighborhoods, sometimes no matter what you do, you're still going to get the Karens kicking you out of there saying, hey, didn't you see the sign?

This is no soliciting.

But if you choose to not get it, here's some ways that you can at least buy yourself more time and hopefully not get kicked out.

Number one, pick up your name tag.

You got to look super professional as you are at the door.

You say your first and last name and you hold up your photo, your picture with it.

Okay, these people, their first thought is I'm getting scammed.

Seniors, they think they're scammed on everything.

And unfortunately, there are a lot of scammers out there targeting seniors.

So you got to look insanely credible.

You got to say, hey, I'm Taylor Armstrong.

Hold up your name tag.

And then you got to give yourself even more credibility.

He says, hey, we're licensed with the state of California, state of Illinois, wherever you're knocking, you're holding up.

get to print yourself off a little slick of a state logo, something official looking.

Um, here in California, we have a home improvement licenses.

Okay.

That's another thing you hold up, but wherever you're at, figure out what's another layer of credibility you can add.

And then the third layer of credibility is this, you're going to drop names.

You're hopefully going to be in touch with the HOA president of the old folks community.

If not, you're going to have talked to other people in the neighborhood.

You're going to drop the names.

Because if you can drop three, four names and combine it with the name tag, first and last name, and combine it with like a logo from the state or some type of license you have, then that's more believable.

That's going to buy a lot of time.

Hey, so these were my mistakes.

This is why I keep getting kicked out of them.

And I found that as I do these things, I'm able to stick in neighborhoods.

And this is just a good general rule.

If you are knocking skeptical people, skeptical neighborhoods, you got to show them that you're legit, right?

So seniors or not, these are things that can help with that.

Hey, and then another pro tip is, well, don't knock them at nighttime.

These people, they go to bed early.

So you're not knocking these people at night.

And a mistake I made, I would just get out of there by the time 4.35 rolls around.

Even if you're booking appointments, get out of there.

Go move to the regular neighborhood where the working class people are getting home.

Because by then, everybody's home.

You got to capitalize on that prime time and then leave that senior neighborhood for the dead time the next day.

Hey, because I made the mistake of knocking some of these homes after dark.

I'm like, oh, I'm going to hustle.

I got some appointments here.

Go knock it after dark.

Got some angry Karens.

Got some HOA presence called.

And boom, I was blacklisted from a few of these communities, unfortunately.

So don't get yourself blacklisted.

Take videos with people that have solar.

This is another huge pro tip.

If you can get photo, video evidence that you are helping out people in the community, makes it much more believable and they don't have to be your customers.

Go to people that already have solar in the area.

Grab some videos with them.

And then even if you're not knocking senior neighborhoods, maybe you're with a company, you just get assigned areas or what have you.

Still, the secret is this.

If you're in prime time and you happen upon someone that looks like they're seniors, maybe they have the handicap stickers, they have the gnomes in the garden, whatever.

All signs are pointing to them being seniors.

Mark that in your knocking app and don't hit that during primetime.

Save those key targets.

Save those people for the dead hours of the day, the early afternoon.

And then you're going to know, hey, I've got six people that were older folks.

I'm going to go hit those during the dead times.

So that's the secret.

Go Google the old folks neighborhoods.

Okay, mobile parks can be great.

You know, you deal with different objections.

But in order to be a master of this game, a master of solar, you got to learn to sell to old folks, to young folks, to all races.

Of course, you're going to have your primary people.

And that's something we've talked about is figure out who your customer avatar is, figure out who you do best with.

and definitely target those people, but you got to know how to switch it up and sell to all people at the same time.
