Speaker: All right, we're live. Figured this was a good opportunity to do a very quick, impromptu live stream sesh. Doesn't have to be crazy long, but want to get Bryson on here and just talk about the Kayshawn Booty trade.
Speaker: Figured the internet is kind of abuzz, busy right now. um Yeah, man, it's huge news. Huge news. Obviously, we've kind of been, we've been talking about this for for like months months and months and months. and months um Something where, ah you know, it's been pretty widely reported at this this point that Kayshawn Booty did request a trade in the spring.
Speaker: um I think you've even messaged with Kayshawn Booty a little bit. I think you you've reported that. It's not a secret. um You know, booty Booty wanted to be out.
Speaker: He wanted an opportunity elsewhere. Right. It's not it's again, it's not crazy. It's not like we're being we're being wild saying that, like, ah this is some secret trade request. Like this has been reported. Karen Grigian reported this like he wanted out. So the fact, I guess, that people are a little like I think people are just upset, obviously, because they love the player, one of their favorite players. But again, like this, this, this wasn't unexpected, you know, at all. So why don't you give me your initial take, Bryson? I'll i'll i'll pump this tweet up. But you give me your take.
Speaker: Well, first of all, it's good to see it. Savage is the only one that can pull me off my lawnmower. So i was out there and all of a sudden Savage is like, dude, we have to go talk about this. I'm like, okay, hold on one sec. I've grass all over me. So we got to go. We got to go.
Speaker: So we're we're on the podcast. i appreciate being here. But yeah, Savage is right. You know if you listen to the podcast, if you listen to Title Talk, if you listen to Savage's podcast, you'd know. that for, I mean, for months now, we had been saying since March that this was going to happen. And people were always like getting the reason wrong. You know initially, I think me and Savage had like multiple threads about this, talking exactly why this would happen.
Speaker: And I was very confident all off season that you were too, like, this is going to happen. And people were like, no, it can't happen. And they were coping. And last week at joint practice actually confirmed this for me, because, you know, based on what we saw, that booty was kind of running with the second team. And then you had, You know the team loves Hollins more than people ever even realize. They lost their love Hollins, dude. Right. So he's on top of them. But what we said, and the reason why Kashawn messaged me is because I nailed the take, you know, back in June or whatever it was. I said, look, Kashawn wants to be a Patriot. Kashawn would love to be a Patriot. But he's in the final year of his contract. And what he would love to do is also get paid. And by signing or trading for A.J. Brown and signing Dobbs,
Speaker: Not to even mention that Diggs only played 52% of the snaps last year. You're cutting into Kashawn Booty's pockets, essentially. You're you're like basically banking on him being like an extremely efficient player that gets paid, which is just not going happen. So he wants the opportunities, and the Patriots are like, look, we kind of have the outside wide receiver role stacked here. We've got our starters. Let's do right by Kashawn Booty. And when I said this,
Speaker: Everyone freaked out, but Booty messaged me and he was like, yeah. And I was like, well, I hope everything works out for you. and I'm like, i agree. I know exactly what's going to happen. And so this is why the trade happens, because like Savage just said, they're high on Matt Collins. He can play anywhere on the outside and in the slot if he wants to pop is looking like a good slot. And by the way, Dobbs is way better than people are giving him credit for. Savage and I just watched him last week in practice. The guy the guy's gigantic, man. He's going to get all those targets. He is going to have those Kashawn Booty-like catches. Maybe not as abundantly or maybe not in the highlights. But based on what you saw, Savage, I bet you you're going to tell people you are going to see some of those awesome catches, contested catches.
Speaker: Yeah, I think so. I mean, well, I mean, first off, Dobbs. Yeah, I thought Dobbs looked really impressive in person. He's just a big dude. I didn't know when they were trading for him. Like, again, maybe it's an optical illusion from the helmet he wears. But, like, you always thought he was smaller. Like, I was like, this is a guy like 5'10", 200. You know, he's a big dude. And he's going to be nasty red zone player.
Speaker: um And you can watch it in the joint practice, man. Like, he's a big contested catch guy. And he's exactly what we've been talking about. He fits the mold of the big, big contested guy. um But I mean, i think, again, shifting back to the trade, like, i think people are just upset because of how the fan base values Kayshawn Booty. you know what I mean? Like the fan base really, really likes Kayshawn Booty.
Speaker: They're a big fan K-Shane. And I understand that. Like he's he's a guy who's a late round draft pick. He came up, he got buried by Bill year one for not getting two feet in. Like we all remember that. We didn't see him again. Bill literally like banished him to the shadow realm, you know? Like, so that whole thing, which was ridiculous, but whatever. So he battled back, he got better, he worked on it and he's an incredibly reliable receiver, like great body control, great hands. There's a lot of like good about Kishan booty, but The reality is you're saying this, he just wasn't going to get chances.
Speaker: He wasn't going to have opportunities. And like, he's trying to make money, man. Like he needs to make money for his family, for his legacy, his future. Like I can't hold it against booty at all for, for trying to seek out a contract.
Speaker: Like that is ultimately what they're doing here. This is a profession they need to get paid. And clearly like he did request a trade. So again, like maybe if we can talk about the, the compensation,
Speaker: And maybe people are upset about the compensation and and what they what they think he's actually worth. So why don't you tell me, Bryce, how did you feel about the the compensation they got for Boone?
Speaker: Well, that tell us what the compensation was. Okay, so there's Jalen Reed, safety from the Texans, and they got a 2028 seventh round pick, which is virtually as low as a draft pick return as you can possibly receive.
Speaker: Right. Um, this is going to be sacrilegious for me to say, probably, and I'm going to hurt some fans feelings. I don't mean to do that because I can just say Sean booty is a friend of mine. Please book yours, Sean, but I would do this all off season in our chat.
Speaker: I would just put a picture of Matt Collins stats and right beside of Sean booty stats. And aside from touchdowns, it's like, oh, man, Hollins has more catches. The yards are basically identical. I mean, this is ah this is someone who, as you can tell, based on the trade, is massively overrated by Patriots fans.
Speaker: And the league just doesn't feel the same about Kashawn Booty. Otherwise, like you said, he would have been traded months and months ago. This is why it took so long. But to let's put a positive spin on this. So I was in the chat. um i'm talking him I'm talking about the trade. And one of our friends, Dre, it's in the chat he's in the chat. he's like He's a draft guy. He's like, I like Reid. I think he's a solid player.
Speaker: Maybe he can be a solid contributor for the Patriots. You know, seventh round pick is whatever. But you roll the dice on a player like that, our friend Dre really likes him. kind of take his word for Maybe he won't be the best player ever, but the compensation you're going to get for Kashawn Booty is not going to meet the level of notoriety and fandom that he is within, within Patriots nation, which we all can understand. We all like him a lot.
Speaker: You know, he's awesome. He's been awesome for us, but we do have to like take off those glasses and really, Look, like I encourage everyone just go on PFR and just look up the stats and look around. Look at Matt Collins stats. It's a player. Matt Collins is a good example, a player that the Patriots are super high on.
Speaker: And Booty is like they're probably feel they probably honestly feel the same. Booty has more catches and he does more flashy things. But. i mean is this ah I mean, I hate to say this because it really does hurt people's feelings, but the the ah the reality is is that Booty is much lower in the NFL's land on opinion than Patriots fans have for him, which I hate that.
Speaker: I mean, there was rumors about them trying to trade him last year. And this is why people got mad at me. Like it was like last summer to the same thing. Like there was rumors that we were trying to deal in then. And everyone's like, you hate booty. They say it all the time. You hate, I don't hate anyone. I don't hate, it especially don't hate booty. Booty was great. He did well. He's a, he was a, again, great possession receiver did what he wanted. But again, when we say great, I don't want to like rip them. Like who are we who are we comparing this to?
Speaker: Right? Like he had how many yards receiving last year? I have 150 or something like that. Yeah. Like it was 500. Like, again, this is a guy that was a good, solid possession guy that Drake liked to throw the ball to in certain situations. Great deep ball receiver, not due to his speed, but kind of like his craftiness, right? Like he would, he had good leverage with people and he has great hands. But again, it became very apparent that he wasn't going to be getting a lot of time this year.
Speaker: Like they weren't going be, they weren't going playing him. I mean, he, he was, you could see in camp, he was just, he didn't crack the lineup. I thought I tweeted out earlier today. Vrabel had a quote this morning where he said, the people that didn't play in the game, those are our guys, right? He had that quote. He said that this morning and I was like, Oh, booty didn't play. Maybe they're, maybe they're done trading them. Maybe he's one of their guys now.
Speaker: And no, he held them out because they were in the process of trading which again, like would have been cool if someone had that take out there, whether it's, ah fan a reporter you know nobody said anything you know it's like absolute dead zone leading up to this trade which i feel it's a little unfortunate that could have been a little bit of juice there but uh but it actually savage i i maybe i didn't hit it hard enough but yes something like yesterday i you know i had a long week and so i was thinking maybe it was the day before i thought you know it was really weird to see mac collins and aj brown
Speaker: and Dobbs both play like way more than booty. And so all of us sitting there, we were like, man, this is, this is really actually pretty weird. And so you're right. We should have, we should have really hit that take harder after seeing the stuff we saw in joint practices, because we all said, and I said yesterday, this is weird. And someone even said, no, it's just because Matt Collins is like a better blocker. And I was like, I don't really think you're getting it. And so maybe they get it today. It's like,
Speaker: But yeah, you're right. We should have been on that, man. Why were we not on that early? I don't know. I feel like we really should. I feel like if anyone, it would have potentially been us to be on it, to be like, I feel like this is like sitting out to be traded. We're hopeful optimists, just want we were we are optimists at heart, truly.
Speaker: That would have been such a such a good take, man, if someone had that. Like, I swear, I didn't read that. I haven't read that anywhere. No one suggested he was being held out because he's about to be traded. Didn't read anywhere, which again, like,
Speaker: Man, that person, that would have been a good take today. But um I hope that from the Texans' perspective, people immediately, once once ah Jaden Higgins went down, they're like, you know, Booty's a great trade candidate for them. Then they bring in, right, a couple wide receivers. And I guess the wide receivers they brought in didn't do the trick for them. Because obviously here they are and they're trading for Booty right in, you know, the last kind of action week of the the preseason. So, yeah.
Speaker: yeah man it's correct i mean I would say it's crazy, but it's not really crazy. It's kind of the opposite of crazy. It's exactly what we thought was going to happen. You know what i mean? so Crazy would ah would be something a lot different. so Go for it. so Savage, here's a take for you.
Speaker: This will make the fans feel better. Let's say the Patriots win the Super Bowl this year. Sean Booty gets a ring, right? Does he from being the preseason? Honestly, I would give him a ring.
Speaker: And I would give him a ring because the Patriots fans, they love him. Remember, they gave Gordon a ring. He played in games, obviously. But I'd give him a ring. The Patriots win a ring this year. They should invite Kashawn Booty to the ceremony.
Speaker: And they should give him a ring and celebrate him because, you know what, he was here in the dark times. You know, he was here even last year. hes He was here through the rebuild. And so it is kind of it would be really sad to see him not win a ring.
Speaker: and, you know, celebrate with the Patriots. Like, imagine how bad that guy feels. He's getting money, obviously. But I think we need to start the petition right now and put it in everyone's head. The Patriots are winning a Super Bowl this year, and Kashawn Booty definitely deserves a ring.
Speaker: You know, would have been, like, that was the most telling that, again, we kind of hammered a little bit was a couple of things. One, when Drake was asked about his wide receiver core on the radio one time, he like forgot to mention booty.
Speaker: Like he was like, he'd he said like six guys, including Chisholm. He's like, Oh, I love Chisholm. All right. And then he's like, Oh yeah. Booty is great. It was the last guy i mentioned. Like, i was like, Oh, that's weird. Then you go to locker room, dude.
Speaker: And booty's lockers. Like, in the back. It's like in the back corner. You know mean? He's next to AJ Brown and Dobbs and Matt Collin. And you're like, man, what? So, I mean, the writing's been on the wall for a while. This is not, you know, a couple guys have been really on this story, whether it's to give people credit, like Burt Breer has mentioned this many, many times that booty's on the trade block. Like if they got a fourth for him, they would have traded him months ago. You know, he's been saying like, they're not getting the comp you guys think they're getting.
Speaker: Breer's been on it. Mike Giardi is from BSJ. mark Mike Giardi's been on this a lot too. He's been on it again, weeks, months. They've been saying like they're trying to get rid of Keishon Booty. Like he wants to be traded. So this was just the first opportunity that I think they got a player in Jalen Reed that,
Speaker: Maybe they see something in He was a late round pick last year from Penn State. And as ah as a safety, maybe they say, hey, Bayard is going to be, Bayard's getting older. You know, we just have him short-term deal. Maybe Craig Woodson got a little banged up. Maybe they get Jalen Reed for that.
Speaker: I don't know. I don't know enough about Jalen Reed. I just know he's a young player that got hurt last year and sat out. But I don't know. yeah You have any opinions on Jalen Reed? I don't think anyone necessarily knows a whole lot about him as ah as a player.
Speaker: I go with Dre's opinion. you know Like Dre says, Jalen Reed would have been one of his top top steals of the draft, Seth. I'm going to with Dre's opinion here. So, you know, we're going we're to optimistic but about it, but you know, Savage, it is also really funny. Like yesterday or the day before yesterday, variable was talking about how the depth isn't very good. And then they just trade to Sean. You know, theyre it's like, they really honestly did not have to trade them. Like Patriots fans are right. Like it does not have to trade them at all.
Speaker: Like they would have with the compensation. I mean, if he does sign a deal, that obviously plugs into the compensation. formula there. So they, they really could have just kept them. And I find it very ironic that they're like, yeah, the depth sinks. And, you know, we've actually seen this. Remember when Amendola went down and Edelman, you know obviously it's like,
Speaker: Things like that, you don't think about that. But I can see the fans' reason for, like, why would you trade this guy? But, again, they're trying to do right by him, which I understand that too. But, you know, if you want to be a shrewd business guy, you a shrewd owner, I think you would probably be like, no, we're just going to keep you, man. Like, you're you're pretty important to this team. If something, if, Lord forbid, Dobbs goes out there and rolls his ankle and is out for, like, five weeks, you'd be like, thank gosh we have booty. But now Patriots fans are probably going to be mad that it's going to be Matt Collins, which, you know, I'll be fine with. But Patriots fans will be mad.
Speaker: I think genuinely, I think it boils down to the fact that he requested our trade like that. Like if, like if he truly was like, I'll play out the year, um I'll be fine.
Speaker: I'm cool with my targets. so I'll get a ah contract next year. That's one thing, but I think he made it clear. Like once they signed it, they, he knew, he knew back in after they signed Dobbs and he knew back, wasn't like April that they were going to trade for AJ Brown. He knew that deal was going to happen.
Speaker: Like, Keyshawn Booty knew like, see, there's someone's like, yeah, we're trading for Brown. Once it hits six, one, the trade will be done. Like he was aware of that. And so he requested a trade back in April. So I think because he requested a trade variable, being a player coach um and knowing that he was to be buried in the depth chart, I think he genuinely did right by the player, which ultimately do future players and agents like, do they pay attention to this stuff?
Speaker: And they like this and they say, hey, he knew that this dude was going to have a better opportunity to get a contract somewhere else. I'm going to do right by this guy so that he can do right by his family.
Speaker: Do know what I mean? So that's my opinion. is I think Vrabel tried to be the good guy, and I don't necessarily see a problem with it unless we have a huge injury and then we have other big problems.
Speaker: you know No, I think you're right about that. yeah it does I think that does actually mean because you know fans they kind of see only the player and the action but there is obviously like the hard knock stuff the behind the scenes stuff there is there is definitely a human element to it and if the Patriots do deal with like the same agent or the same team or whatever and let's say the Patriots are trying to court someone in their final year their contract and like hey we'll pay ah you know there and there's that true level of trust there you know your word does mean a lot so the Patriots honored Booty's role and you know the other funny thing that I was thinking about it
Speaker: know If you're a Vrabel fan, if you're a Wolf fan, like typically Vrabel fans don't like Wolf, and typically if you're like a Wolf guy, maybe you don't like Vrabel. I don't know. I'm not on either either of those camps. but so if you're If you're like Vrabel, he makes all of the moves, and you hate this move, you have to blame Vrabel, right? Or if you're like, Vrabel's my guy, but this was Elliot Wolf this time, it's like I find that pretty funny, too.
Speaker: I don't actually get – don't really get it. I don't get some of this stuff that fans do because I never – make it up, right? They just make it up. They just make stories i think people just make up what they want at all times. I don't i don't really get it. Like a saying like – like Mike Vrabel works with Elliott Wolfe. When he says like our team's not deep, people are like, oh, maybe it's a shot. And I was like – even i was on there. I was like, ah I don't know. Maybe it's a subtle message. But then like in reality – They work together all the time. They're in the same fucking building.
Speaker: They're like, hey, he goes into his office, goes, hey, man, like we got to get a little more depth here. like We're light here. like They talk all the fucking time. So I think it's funny where people create. It's like you're watching a soap opera. like Why are we creating like – Or like or like boy savage for you guys, though i were like um some some guys in the internet be like, it's got to be Lomu versus Campbell.
Speaker: Who would do that? I can't believe someone would do that. They're fighting. Like they're like they're battling each other all in practice. little go you know like ah doesn't make any like They're teammates. They're both trying hard. And hopefully they both succeed and can start a tackle for a long time. You know what i mean? I just find it.
Speaker: hilarious like we make it like we're playing super smash brothers and like you know it's like mario versus wario dude it makes no makes no sense and i disavow that anyone who is creating some sort of tension between the patriots players i totally disavow you okay if you're if you're on team lomo over campbell i disavow you team gamble all the way I didn't, is that not funny? Like people are like, it's like they're fight like, they're at odds. You know, we create these like little dramas, you know what I mean? we do they They do. And I've actually, there was a tweet about this. I wish, I wish I could like pin it to my profile. It was like, it was like, essentially I'm paraphrasing, but it was like,
Speaker: Football is essentially Love Island for boys, and they will make dramatic scenarios around their favorite players and teams and just make up stuff completely. Situationships. There's no truth to the matter. every It's like, Kishan Booty is doing this, and behind the scenes, and like, Elliott Wolfe is doing this. It's like, I love that, actually. i actually love that part. that's The drama.
Speaker: Yeah, that's it's fun when people do that. But I have this about you not do not make drama within my favorite team. OK, I disavow. I think it's larry it's like when ah I thought it was really funny when the reports came out about like Joe Milton and like Drake May, like before Milton left, there's a lot of like talk behind the scenes that like Milton stirring up drama going on the rock room being like, I should be the guy and Drake sucks drs suck it and i'm the man. And it's like that's crazy.
Speaker: like great I think it's hilarious. I don't, I don't know the legitimacy of it, but I think it's really funny, but um all right, we're coming up on 20 minutes now. We don't have to go super crazy long. and i just knew a lot of people would on here. Want to talk about the trade. Any, any other final thoughts you have on the booty trade before we sign it off?
Speaker: I just want to remind Patriots fans, like I've seen a lot of you know, this week and, you Savage and I, we know we just hung out. We were just watching the joints and it's really eyeopening. Actually, if you're a Patriots fan and you got you're thinking like Dobbs is not like him. He is. Dobbs and Brown are going to be awesome for the Patriots. And I think you should really take that pain from the booty loss and just turn that eye towards your friend Dobbs because he's going to be awesome. He's going have these contested catches. He's going to be awesome for the Patriots. And, you know, like we said and earlier in the tweet, it goes like A.J. Brown, Dobbs, you have Matt Collins, you have Bob Douglas, and those are the clear top four you have as of right now. And, you know, there's there. Maybe there's a lane for Kyle Williams to steal. Some of those snaps would be awesome because he's super skilled. But I don't think you have anything to worry about right now. Like, would forbid, but injury willing, your team at wide receiver is actually in good hands.
Speaker: Love it. um And before I go, I just want to say I thought this was funny, too. I did a couple of film things on all 22 recently because I just mostly did it for the fan base to literally like just people following online to be like, hey, here's like the actual reps. Like, do you want to watch the reps? Here's like seven or eight reps. I did it for just Lomu and for Akis. It was funny, like what I didn't know is like there's a level of gatekeeping with doing like footage. I had many people in the comments are like, you don't even know the terminology. You don't know that. I was like, mean, played a lot of football when I was younger. Like I love football. I watch football constantly. Like i i don't need, the whole point is for me to not be an expert. I'm not trying to be like a film expert.
Speaker: I just want to literally show people like, Hey, here's the rep. Here's what Lomo did. hey he was pretty good at pass blocking. Hey, he struggled a little bit in the run game. Like it was just, it's not supposed to be, some um insane breakdown, you know, film watcher guy. That wasn't, that wasn't the point. So I didn't know there was like a weird, weird gatekeeping. Did you, were you aware of this?
Speaker: Yeah. but We've all, we always talk about this on the podcast. There's like a, there's love Island for boys, which is, you know, our football stuff. And then there's over here, there's like serious Stan.
Speaker: I love film. I'm super boring and I get angry. div in guy And, you know, we try to we try to, you know, you know, have that line there and be funny and entertaining and also, you know, have some football knowledge. But, yeah, anytime you slide over into the that lane of, like, X's and O's, people get extremely mad. You don't have to worry about them because no one no one likes them, by the way, because they're like, what do you mean, the gap down backer was? It's like, who cares, man? yeah Savage knows just as much ball as everyone. he can break And guess what? If you don't like it, just keep scrolling.
Speaker: He's free to have a subjective opinion because most of these opinions are a subjective. We don't know the – we're not knowing the plays but for the most part. We don't know the assignments. We're just breaking them. You use your eyes. I like that, by the way. because i'm a um you know I like Akis and I like Lomus, so I liked you know watching that. and and yeah That's cool for me because I have it too. But I like it when you post that. So I say keep posting it because more people will see it. So just keep doing it. Don't worry about those other people.
Speaker: We will ratio them to death. No, we won't ratio them to death. I thought it was funny, though, that we'll go like in that that one clip we showed, us at it was the second play the game. Akis was like you know on the edge, trying to set the edge. And then Markel Bell... who's 6'9", 350, behemoth, just goes like, whoop, and just like moves him out of the way, like way out. And people in the comments are like, I think he did his job there. He really did it. He said it. He did his job. And i was like, guys, it's okay to say like he could do better. Like i don't, again, this is like,
Speaker: you can have some nuance in the take. It doesn't have to be like Akis did it or he got his ass. Like he could have done a little bit better. Maybe he provides like he, he compresses down the hole a little bit. Maybe he doesn't get flung out of the way. Anyway, I just thought it was like really bizarre. Like I was in the twilight zone of takes where you're like reading everyone's comments were so incredibly strange. Like you're what you're like, what you're watching is not like, not real. Like it was just weird to me.
Speaker: I don't know. No, you're right, because, you know, I remember when I was in college, I would, in between classes, I would watch the All-22, and I would, like, send stuff to chat. And then I was like, I'll start posting this. You know, this is years and years ago. And our boy Chatham, which I like, he follows me. I remember him, like, that like he got aggressive with me. we follow each other, but he was like, no, this is bad. And I'm like, man, I'm just like, I'm in college. I'm watching it. I just... know, I really enjoy that. And they they just immediately, they're like, no, this is our side of Twitter. You go back to your side where you make jokes funny, man. Over there.
