Tyler Lawhon: Oh. Hey, Joe, what you got going on there?

Joe Dorhauer: oh Oh. Is that you, Tyler?

Tyler Lawhon: Hey.

Joe Dorhauer: Oh, hey, I was just ah reading covenant theology from Adam to Christ.

Tyler Lawhon: Howdy neighbor

Joe Dorhauer: near my cards.

Tyler Lawhon: There you go

Joe Dorhauer: John Owen. The Presbyterians are going to be mad about that one. ah That was the closest book I had on my shelf. I used a book this time. That's progress.

Tyler Lawhon: theyre You're right.

Joe Dorhauer: That's progress.

Tyler Lawhon: Right. ah

Joe Dorhauer: How was your Lord's Day, Tyler? We're recording on a rare... occasion. because it is the Lord's Day.

Tyler Lawhon: We are. It is, and it was good. Um, Trying to avoid... a I put my headphone cable in the wrong spot, so I'm sorry about that. No, we're doing good, though. um We actually had a perfectly timely.

Tyler Lawhon: a sermon on the fourth commandment which as you know is keeping the Sabbath.

Joe Dorhauer: It is.

Tyler Lawhon: So it was really. a Really good talk. Really good sermon. So.

Joe Dorhauer: And our Sabbath rest is in Christ, so we can do anything we want on the Lord's Day, right?

Tyler Lawhon: And then we had lots of rest.

Tyler Lawhon: uh that that i don't believe was the takeaway no no it was

Joe Dorhauer: Uh oh. Okay.

Tyler Lawhon: Now, to be fair, it probably wasn't as hard of a a Sabbath. uh Sabbatarian. of you is is you personally would have preferred to see but ah

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah, you know. Not everybody can be right.

Tyler Lawhon: It's okay. right right right

Joe Dorhauer: ke it's kind of messed up Bye.

Tyler Lawhon: Exactly. Exactly.

Joe Dorhauer: We'll push past that. Yeah, ah we're we're still going through Isaiah.

Tyler Lawhon: Right. What about you?

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah, we're we're going through Isaiah still. And. Man. Good stuff. Love Isaiah. But. my passer as usual knocked it out of the park today.

Joe Dorhauer: It was great. um I'm having my... son Isaiah while we'll still I don't know. It might be close. He's doing November.

Joe Dorhauer: So a couple months left, but I think we might still be in Isaiah. So.

Tyler Lawhon: There you go

Joe Dorhauer: Yep.

Tyler Lawhon: It'll be perfect.

Joe Dorhauer: It'd be pretty cool. Yeah. Not that that matters at all, but you know. Be kind of cool.

Tyler Lawhon: Yeah, I mean it would be very cool

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah. Yeah, God is... God is faithful man. um Full quiver. It's pretty awesome. Um, children

Tyler Lawhon: Yeah.

Joe Dorhauer: Having children is a blessing. That same. Psalm, actually. or not Psalm, Proverb actually. Talks about having children in your youth. And I just think about like all the people that say, man, I want to wait till I'm.

Joe Dorhauer: Whether it's financially stable, which you're never going to be financially stable enough for a kid. Don't use that excuse. Or, you know, I want to wait till I'm like. 35 to have a kid like that.

Joe Dorhauer: From people I talk to. Not at my church because we have lots of babies, but... From people I talk to that seems to be about the average like 32 to 35 I'm like, man, you only got like What?

Joe Dorhauer: you know, I guess it depends on the person, maybe like. Seven years?

Tyler Lawhon: Yeah. Yeah, we think we're. we're kind of in a ah very different situation at our church. We we have a Ton of babies.

Tyler Lawhon: Um, But we... kind of go through these like cycles every couple of years where we'll have Um, a bunch of young couples get married and then a couple years later they're they're having children so like there's always either like a season of weddings or a bunch of babies coming kind of all at once

Joe Dorhauer: Mm hmm.

Joe Dorhauer: Yep.

Tyler Lawhon: So.

Joe Dorhauer: As it should be.

Tyler Lawhon: it's ah It's a lot of fun. Oh, it it is. um I... We have... Such an interesting... Um, collection of people from different age groups and kind of walks of life in our church it's really Really, really fun.

Tyler Lawhon: So. um but of course you know getting to know people especially um

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: In our case, because we're... you know. We've only been there a few years now. so getting to know some of these people. And. Um, you know then getting invited to weddings and and baby showers and all this kind of stuff it's been it's been really nice um to be kind of incorporated in that way I guess.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah. Yeah, it kind of goes along the lines of it's something. that I've kind of been thinking about. And. You know, there's the evangelical. Not completely.

Joe Dorhauer: Um... I wouldn't say it's a malicious. Idea. that church growth. is the most important thing possible you need to get numbers numbers numbers And as we all know, when you focus only on evangelism.

Joe Dorhauer: um Doctrine. Sound doctrine tends to fall to the wayside. Um, So you might have a lot of numbers, but you don't have... necessarily a lot of wheat.

Joe Dorhauer: There's a lot of chaff mixed in. And. um My church has been growing. a lot. Bye. a lot lately Which is great.

Joe Dorhauer: you know. Um, But... The number one way... to grow your church. is to just have babies. And then those babies end up eventually being part of your Yeah.

Joe Dorhauer: congregation, like participants. maybe future pastors and...

Tyler Lawhon: Yeah, you can't run out of members if your members have babies.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah. Yeah, that's your future pastors, that's your future elders and deacons.

Tyler Lawhon: Yeah.

Joe Dorhauer: and worship leaders and you know, All that good stuff. Um, But... But yeah, the hard part is like. Raising your kids right.

Joe Dorhauer: Hmm. All that fun stuff.

Tyler Lawhon: And. That is certainly not an easy task. So, yeah.

Joe Dorhauer: Hmm. Yeah. But. You know, most things in life that are easy aren't worth doing.

Joe Dorhauer: You're thinking about that one.

Tyler Lawhon: Yeah, I... ah I think that's not the saying, but yeah, you know. what We'll go with it for now.

Joe Dorhauer: Oh yeah. We'll go with it.

Tyler Lawhon: We'll go with it.

Joe Dorhauer: So...

Tyler Lawhon: Oh, so.

Joe Dorhauer: ah

Tyler Lawhon: ah

Joe Dorhauer: Oh. That was it.

Tyler Lawhon: I'll let you go. I'll let you go.

Joe Dorhauer: No, no. The... The greater goes first. The wiser.

Tyler Lawhon: Oh. In that case, I insist.

Joe Dorhauer: The Magnificent. With a shirt like that. I mean, you got to go first.

Tyler Lawhon: Oh.

Joe Dorhauer: See we talked about it before but nobody's actually seen it That is...

Tyler Lawhon: Yeah, it's true.

Joe Dorhauer: Ladies and gentlemen, that is a tropical Bigfoot in a floaty device.

Tyler Lawhon: It's true The.

Tyler Lawhon: And there's there's a bunch of different ones.

Joe Dorhauer: I mean look at that guy. Look at that guy. He's just chilling. For those of you that are not watching on YouTube, you're really missing out. I got to say.

Tyler Lawhon: It's true. It's true.

Joe Dorhauer: And maybe they're not.

Tyler Lawhon: This has become one of my favorite shirts just because it's it's fun.

Joe Dorhauer: I don't know

Tyler Lawhon: It's silly, but it's also like nice and lightweight.

Joe Dorhauer: Mm hmm.

Tyler Lawhon: and so when you have like hot humid days like we had today It's... beautiful.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: it's beautiful but anytime I wear it up. constantly bombarded with various compliments of oh my gosh i love your shirt you know ah

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah. I just got the plane.

Tyler Lawhon: So it's pretty great.

Joe Dorhauer: claim white. T -shirt. you know.

Tyler Lawhon: You know? It works.

Joe Dorhauer: Yep, it is what it is. It reflects. how Jesus is. Clothes me in white.

Tyler Lawhon: ah Yeah.

Joe Dorhauer: Yep.

Tyler Lawhon: Yeah. ah

Joe Dorhauer: Although... I have kids, so I'm sure it has stains on it, but... You know. It is what it is.

Tyler Lawhon: Yeah, I don't... ah I don't own any unstained white t -shirts anymore.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: ah

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah. My wife doesn't like when I wear them because they... They end up stained. pretty much every time. Whether it's me, you know I blame the kids. Feel like Adam right now. It's the woman you gave me. it's ah It's the children you gave me. But no, it's it's me.

Joe Dorhauer: I am the man.

Tyler Lawhon: ah You are the man, David.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: Well, so, um yeah, I was just going to ask you. you know kind of how life has been treating you Since we last heard from you.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah, man ah we're We're actually... So... the The thing getting me through right now you know, my very long weeks at work.

Joe Dorhauer: 80 to 90 hours. I think this week I... I put in maybe a little over 90 hours. is Pretty crazy. but um I, other than The grace of God. The thing that's getting me through right now is I will be in your part of the country in just a couple of weeks.

Tyler Lawhon: It is true.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah, so

Tyler Lawhon: It is true.

Joe Dorhauer: Maybe, just maybe, you guys. No, I'll leave it at that.

Joe Dorhauer: we'll leave We'll leave it at that on a cliffhanger. We're going to be in the same place. That's all I'll say.

Tyler Lawhon: So yeah, we might have a... Two -person in like live in -person podcast Or at least... ah At least maybe some like YouTube updates or something. I don't know. We'll have to we'll have to play it by ear and figure it out.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: Cause I've. We tried sharing a mic before and it's a little tricky.

Joe Dorhauer: yes

Tyler Lawhon: um I don't have two microphones at the moment. So unless somebody... wants to Sponsor. Since I have a ah two input device here

Joe Dorhauer: Hmm.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: Maybe. Maybe.

Joe Dorhauer: Sure.

Tyler Lawhon: So.

Joe Dorhauer: Road? We're not picky. ah

Tyler Lawhon: I'm a little picky.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: I'm a little piggy.

Joe Dorhauer: Well, whichever whichever one of shore and road. loves the gospel more. You guys let us know by... Sending us free stuff. Just like the free.

Tyler Lawhon: Or just goofy podcast hosts. I'll take any any any reason.

Joe Dorhauer: No, no, no No, we're demanding a declaration of faith. just like the free gift of God.

Tyler Lawhon: Well, so...

Joe Dorhauer: In salvation, we need a free gift of a microphone.

Tyler Lawhon: That's right.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah. um

Tyler Lawhon: Yeah, we, um i so I. For anybody that doesn't know... and And that would be. Most of you, unless you happen to listen and have talked to me a lot recently.

Tyler Lawhon: Um, I am the kind of person that if I decide I want to buy something... I'm going to research that thing to absolute. Death.

Joe Dorhauer: It's true.

Tyler Lawhon: And so I... I decided I wanted to. Find a new microphone interface. So that I can plug my mic into the computer.

Tyler Lawhon: And maybe have a little bit. you know step up in audio quality from what I had before just as far as like gain overhead, less noise. Um, Just in the line.

Tyler Lawhon: And, yeah, so I ended up on this. Motu M2. but yeah i've researched the crap out of it And. From there, it's also extended into microphones where I have.

Tyler Lawhon: I have researched so much ah

Joe Dorhauer: yeah

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: So there there are some that I've even considered in the...

Joe Dorhauer: he He Googled... best. He Googled best $30 microphone.

Tyler Lawhon: Oh, you go ahead. Yeah.

Joe Dorhauer: i'm just kidding That was a joke.

Tyler Lawhon: um I, I. I had some that like I had kind of sitting on one of my wish lists. Um, And I've gone through and pared it down as I've kind of learned more about. how the microphones work.

Tyler Lawhon: So. there's something that I'm just like, yeah, I just actually wouldn't even be interested in that at all. So...

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: But road. If you're listening, I would love to check out a pod bike.

Joe Dorhauer: Oh, God.

Tyler Lawhon: Just saying.

Joe Dorhauer: guys you see this uh you see this word on the side of my microphone they can They can do it too. I'd be okay with that.

Tyler Lawhon: Hey. Mine doesn't have any clear printing, but a mine is also short.

Joe Dorhauer: That's alright. It is, yeah. um Yeah, what about you man? Any updates on life?

Tyler Lawhon: Oh man. um well we are getting close i've been working on like two projects kind of simultaneously. At work. And that has been like.

Tyler Lawhon: Taking me to the end of my mental rope. Every day for the best. few weeks. Um, So. We're... getting really close to the end of both of these and i'm very excited for that Um,

Tyler Lawhon: it'll be it'll be really good for my annual review let's put it that way So. i'm ah I'm looking forward, and it's been an interesting process, a huge learning.

Tyler Lawhon: opportunity. But it has been. quite the Um, Quite the chore. So i'm I'm glad to see this coming to a close.

Tyler Lawhon: For sure.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah. Yeah. Well. One day. Work won't be so tiring. We'll enjoy work one day. You know that? We won't get tired. We won't get broken down and worn down mentally, physically.

Joe Dorhauer: We will enjoy all of our work to the glory of God. And I lied before that's what keeps me going not just the Florida trip.

Joe Dorhauer: So...

Tyler Lawhon: but then there's the florida trip and it just adds whole new layers to it right yeah yeah

Joe Dorhauer: Oh yeah. Yeah. Grace on grace. Yep.

Tyler Lawhon: That's right. That's right.

Joe Dorhauer: To live is Christ and to go to Florida is gain. Oh. That might be blasphemous.

Tyler Lawhon: Luckily. Because of the timing of when you're going to be here. It won't be quite like death. But if you had come during the summer.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah. It's...

Tyler Lawhon: you You might experience a whole new level of of suffering. and

Joe Dorhauer: yeah

Tyler Lawhon: Like... You know, that there's the talk of like how the hellfires never cease, you know.

Joe Dorhauer: Mm hmm.

Tyler Lawhon: We just talked about that last week. and um I kind of wonder if humidity is also involved because...

Joe Dorhauer: yeah

Tyler Lawhon: Oh my goodness.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah. Oh yeah, it gets it gets humid up here, man.

Tyler Lawhon: When you walk out outside and it's like. You know, it's... For those that that may live in areas where humidity isn't so much the issue, like...

Joe Dorhauer: Hmm.

Tyler Lawhon: I have a friend in in Arizona and he is like. Dude. it's getting up to like 120 here and i'm like right but you gotta understand Mind 94 degrees with...

Tyler Lawhon: like 90 plus percent humidity. That'll take it. Out of you.

Joe Dorhauer: Yep.

Tyler Lawhon: Like, you just, that'll take the fight right out of you.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: Because you you can't even hardly breathe while you're outside just because it's so thick.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah, I... I equate it to walking through a swimming pool that's boiling.

Tyler Lawhon: Exactly.

Joe Dorhauer: Yep.

Tyler Lawhon: but there was a oh shoot there was a video that i saw that was like Have you ever... Have you ever tried to walk through soup? And I was like that's accurate.

Joe Dorhauer: yeah Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: Yeah.

Joe Dorhauer: Potato soup, no less.

Tyler Lawhon: potatoes right exactly like a thick creamy one not not just like a a thin minestrone broth

Joe Dorhauer: Exactly. Yeah. Some clam chowder. Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: ah Shout out to our New England listeners.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah. Yeah, I'd love to have some. ah you know i live in missouri so you get clam chowder here and it's like yeah Is it? Is it good? I don't know.

Tyler Lawhon: It's more like. clam chowder.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: Yeah.

Joe Dorhauer: I don't know. I guess I can keep them alive and bring them over here. Whatever. I don't know

Tyler Lawhon: Well, see, around here, you'll... You'll just get a lot of oysters.

Joe Dorhauer: Mm.

Tyler Lawhon: Like everybody has oysters.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: Just because they're so...

Joe Dorhauer: Lots of shucking going on.

Tyler Lawhon: So easy to get. Oh yeah.

Joe Dorhauer: Yep.

Tyler Lawhon: But I mean, like. It's not far from here. and And actually not far from where you're going to. be staying while you're in Florida.

Joe Dorhauer: Mm hmm.

Tyler Lawhon: Um, that There's a a ton of... Um, like oyster bars and stuff and some of the Kind of brackish. water rivers.

Tyler Lawhon: So yeah, oysters are. Plenty around here.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah. So are gators. Uh...

Tyler Lawhon: Yes.

Joe Dorhauer: So...

Tyler Lawhon: The rule of thumb is if there's a body of water, there's probably a gator in it.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: So yeah. don't Don't bring your dogs or children.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: To just random. lakes and ponds.

Joe Dorhauer: yeah Yeah, that's the thing. like Missouri's famous for... some of our lakes. and you know, rivers and stuff. And. I don't because I can't swim, but a lot of other people just.

Joe Dorhauer: Just hop on. Hop on in and just go swimming. I guess you can't really do that, huh?

Tyler Lawhon: Um. Yeah, i my general recommendation would be. Don't. Um, The flip side of that is. You... Can.

Tyler Lawhon: There are certain places that are perfectly fine for swimming. um Like we have. ah Like the Wakala area. Little Color River. First of all. Crystal clear water. Beautiful water.

Tyler Lawhon: Wakulla Springs, same thing. The only downside is it is. So cold.

Joe Dorhauer: Hmm.

Tyler Lawhon: That water is so cold. All the time. Um, it's great in the middle of a hot summer like we've had this year. but uh the nice thing though is you because it's so clear you can see gators so you're fine

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: ah but they'll be usually hanging out like on the banks.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: Um, Hey.

Joe Dorhauer: So they're cold springs, not the...

Tyler Lawhon: there We have people that will jump in. Um, to just random water. And I call those people. um Not Natives.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: So.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah, out of the towners.

Tyler Lawhon: or crazy.

Joe Dorhauer: so So that's a cold spring? Is that what that is? Not a lukewarm one.

Tyler Lawhon: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Joe Dorhauer: like the one that you would spit out of your mouth.

Tyler Lawhon: Right, exactly. exactly

Joe Dorhauer: Gotcha. ah You know, I just came up with that.

Tyler Lawhon: We don't have any hot springs around here, but we do have cold springs

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah. Nice. Uh... So I'm going to throw a curve ball. Tyler has no idea.

Tyler Lawhon: Hit me.

Joe Dorhauer: Tyler, is you guys are about to see Tyler's reaction when I say this. There is a very popular...

Tyler Lawhon: Okay.

Joe Dorhauer: cultural. thing going on right now. You know what I'm going with.

Tyler Lawhon: i mean i can think of a few popular cultural things right now

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah, there's a there's a woman. that is currently on trial

Tyler Lawhon: Oh boy.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: Yeah.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah, her name might... Rhyme with Minzy. Schmancy. yeah

Joe Dorhauer: ah Yeah, the Lindsay Clancy trial.

Tyler Lawhon: But I'm not gonna say who it is.

Joe Dorhauer: Oh, whoops.

Tyler Lawhon: ah

Joe Dorhauer: Um, Yes, there is there is lots of outrage going on currently. on this trial. I think there's a lot.

Tyler Lawhon: It has been an intriguing

Joe Dorhauer: to be gleaned.

Tyler Lawhon: One to keep up with.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah, I'll be honest with you, man. like i For the most part. I don't... Like I've said many times before, I'm not on social media or anything. I don't like sit down and watch the news.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah, I'll get. updates on my my phone or whatever every once in a while on stuff that i need to know about but

Tyler Lawhon: Right.

Joe Dorhauer: Um, largely, I think a lot of these things now that'll be the first point I'll make. Because I think a lot of these things are brought to the forefront. intentionally. to cause division and outrage and All kinds of stuff. and Like.

Joe Dorhauer: Don't get me wrong. for one single second. We should all be outraged about a woman. murdering her three children. That's... brutal that's... demonic, that's whatever word you want to use to describe it.

Tyler Lawhon: That's a hot take there, Joe.

Joe Dorhauer: I know man. I'm... I might have. 10 ,000 women dressed in pink, standing outside my front door.

Tyler Lawhon: That's like. Antarctica hot.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: ah

Joe Dorhauer: um But. You know. Like.

Joe Dorhauer: it's It's really easy to poke fun at the side that is... Supporting. This woman. and saying like even she should go free Or saying...

Joe Dorhauer: you know, beyond any evidence at all that the husband was the one that did it, whatever. whatever people are saying. But the reality is is that God has not given any of us individually.

Joe Dorhauer: The sword. None of us wield a sword. He's given the sword to the government. And. You may not like it. and it might not even be the right decision.

Joe Dorhauer: But at the end of the day. It's the government's job to make that decision. and They will answer. for the decisions they make. ah that's the That's the kicker of it. you know.

Joe Dorhauer: You tell that to people and they're like, oh, well. You know. Uh... The... court system is the least reliable. system blah, blah, blah. every wrong will be answered in the end.

Joe Dorhauer: including those wrongs. whether it's someone wrongfully. can convicted or someone wrongfully not convicted. Um, But I think as Christians...

Joe Dorhauer: Like... You know, I've heard I've heard some people say some things that. are concerning. I'll put it that way. and And I'm talking about both sides of that.

Joe Dorhauer: I think. You know, Tony Arsenal. Shout out Tony Arsenal, as always. Love you, brother. He talks about all the time how... When.

Joe Dorhauer: you know Whether you're talking about St. Andrews or... you know, kind of on the other side of things like Bethel or whatever whatever church. whether it's discipline or some sort of controversy.

Joe Dorhauer: It blows up on the internet and everybody goes crazy. and you know starts throwing around accusations and stuff. As Christians, that's not...

Joe Dorhauer: That's not our job. Like that's not our church. That's not something that we should have really anything to do with. It's none of our business. And.

Tyler Lawhon: right

Joe Dorhauer: I view this Kind of the same way. Like. Don't get me wrong. We live in America where we have freedom to vote. And we can vote in. make decisions towards um,

Joe Dorhauer: the the correct people being in certain offices. the correct laws. locally and federally. um We have...

Joe Dorhauer: Definitely. a right to do that but what we don't have a right to do is to... uh, you know, Like. almost try to intervene. In the...

Joe Dorhauer: the process of the government wielding the sword. It's not our sword to wield. Um, Bye. Again. I think. The other side of that is a lot of people have this unhealthy obsession.

Joe Dorhauer: with these cases. And I'm not saying that if your wife or if you listen to true crime. that they're wrong for that. But... I think a lot of people that follow.

Joe Dorhauer: Stuff like this. ah get get a really unhealthy obsession with it. And it's only made worse when it's brought literally to the forefront in everybody's faces.

Joe Dorhauer: And. I mean you can't tell me that it's not. intentional.

Tyler Lawhon: Yeah, it's been. It's been such a... A mixed bag. kind of keeping up with everything. That's been going on. I mean.

Tyler Lawhon: Especially with the whole situation with the jurors and... kind of everybody's Awful takes.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: on all of that. Um, you know to the conspiracy theories that it was the husband like you said and and just and And at the end of the day, I think everybody's forgetting the... the The main point of all of this is that.

Tyler Lawhon: There were children murdered.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: End. There's somebody that's standing trial for the the murder of children. And. So yeah, we can get so caught up in.

Tyler Lawhon: All of the the extra pieces and parts. But at the end of the day... you know that's that's That's gonna be the focus like there was this grievous wrong done And that's not my place to take care of.

Tyler Lawhon: Like, I'm not a juror. I'm not part of that case.

Joe Dorhauer: Hmm.

Tyler Lawhon: And so, like yes, I can have my opinions on it. But I don't have the evidence. being presented to me.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah, and that's...

Tyler Lawhon: in a way from where I've been given the capacity to make that call.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: you know That's the job of the judge and the jury.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah. that's

Tyler Lawhon: Not me.

Joe Dorhauer: That's the crux of it right there. is People make judgments without, I mean, the Bible. has ah Definitely a precedence for. You know.

Joe Dorhauer: Burn. uh two two or more people bearing witness to accuse someone would like you know there's all kinds of stuff that is along those lines in scripture and The thing is, is that so many people make judgments and we don't. we don't have what They have we don't know. I mean, I guess you can watch the the ah court hearings and everything online or whatever. i don't know I don't know how all that works, to be honest, because I don't watch it. but

Joe Dorhauer: But... Again, like. I wasn't there. I couldn't go before that court. and tell them Yes, this is exactly what happened. she pre premeditated all this stuff, you know.

Joe Dorhauer: i I don't have the answer for that. So I think a lot of times you know You should be sad. That three children were. brutally and Like.

Joe Dorhauer: up close and personal, murdered by their own mother. That is. That is terrible. Um, but That doesn't follow that you can then make...

Joe Dorhauer: an emotional argument. when the consequences are on the scale that they are.

Tyler Lawhon: Right, right.

Joe Dorhauer: That's the reason why God gave the sword to... the government and not to. Just a mob. you know just Whoever. And, you know.

Tyler Lawhon: right

Joe Dorhauer: We could talk about vigilantes and stuff, but.

Tyler Lawhon: And that's a whole conversation, truly. And.

Tyler Lawhon: Again, I can... I can hold some sympathy for people that... you know obviously like one of the big things has been the whole um Like postpartum depression and.

Joe Dorhauer: Mm hmm.

Tyler Lawhon: the psychosis medication, all this kind of stuff. and And don't get me wrong, like, i I'm... ah I want to be very sensitive in regards to mental health issues.

Tyler Lawhon: Um, Having struggled with depression myself. In the past. As well as like having a lot of family members that. that deal with depression, anxiety, and all this kind of stuff.

Tyler Lawhon: Um, Even... going through our own You know postpartum depression um after the birth of our children.

Joe Dorhauer: Hmm.

Tyler Lawhon: But at the end of the day, like...

Tyler Lawhon: You can't use that to justify murder.

Joe Dorhauer: right Yeah. even if it was the case.

Tyler Lawhon: And, and. Right. And in in regard, like, i'm I'm not going to say whether it was or wasn't because, again, I don't know these people. I i don't know anything about them aside from what's been presented.

Joe Dorhauer: Mm hmm.

Tyler Lawhon: But regardless, like, i'm you know, my. my my flaming hot take here is that i don't think that not guilty by reason of insanity is a valid.

Tyler Lawhon: Thing that should be considered like ever Because regardless of... whether somebody is insane or not.

Tyler Lawhon: Someone was murdered.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: Yeah. An image bearer of God was destroyed. And therefore, there are consequences to that. You know. Now, how that gets addressed?

Tyler Lawhon: We can work that out. But this whole like.

Tyler Lawhon: It's not really my fault. you know

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah, there's culpability still.

Tyler Lawhon: It is.

Joe Dorhauer: it's It is tricky, though.

Tyler Lawhon: Yeah.

Joe Dorhauer: um You know, my wife. works in a psych wing in a hospital. um And she sees... Some.

Joe Dorhauer: ah comparable cases. of stuff people have done. Bye. I'll just say that because of HIPAA, but... And, you know. it's It's tough. It is really tough. She knows the backstory. She knows.

Joe Dorhauer: All the stuff going on. and You know, like with the Lindsay Clancy case, she's... um My wife has done a really good job because she knows about all this stuff, obviously.

Joe Dorhauer: Um, like looking at the data comparing it to cases that she's familiar with and being like, Hmm, that. Doesn't really seem like.

Joe Dorhauer: that like she she just straight up said that's not how that works Um, But, you know, like, she's she has the same... opinion as me like Uh, You know like you kill your children you should be you know punished for that But.

Joe Dorhauer: At the same time, like... she She also realizes that she doesn't have Olo. the data and she wasn't there. So...

Tyler Lawhon: Right. right

Joe Dorhauer: Again, she's not saying, hey. you know, they should do this or you know or they Should all all the judges should be disbarred or what, you know. whatever people are saying.

Joe Dorhauer: She's saying, in my opinion, you know this, this, that. I think there's a difference between like... the outrage people get and then coming to a logical conclusion on your own and then seeing what happens. based on...

Joe Dorhauer: you know, God's law Who wields the sword?

Tyler Lawhon: Right.

Joe Dorhauer: Um, But yeah, it's... I've struggled with that one for... Quite a while. like it it is kind of a gray area man like i i do think that people that have Mental.

Joe Dorhauer: disabilities going on are still culpable for their sin. And also, it's important to say that there is still forgiveness in Christ. If they're willing to accept it.

Joe Dorhauer: If God is willing to be gracious enough. to them. then there is still forgiveness of in Christ.

Tyler Lawhon: Of course.

Joe Dorhauer: No matter what.

Tyler Lawhon: Yeah.

Joe Dorhauer: cognitive level you're at.

Tyler Lawhon: And I don't...

Joe Dorhauer: But. it's It's really difficult. And again, we don't wield the sword, so we don't have to make these decisions. um I think we are you know obviously we are involved in the way we vote.

Joe Dorhauer: But it is it's really difficult with some of the conditions. Um, You know, like, she's she's had... Now I'm not gonna say I'm not gonna say anything specific I was gonna I probably shouldn't. You go, you talk before I get my wife fired.

Tyler Lawhon: yeah i mean i was just gonna say like i i don't ever want it to come across like i don't have Um, a certain level of sympathy and and all that for for certain people.

Joe Dorhauer: Mm.

Tyler Lawhon: given their circumstances. And again, I i think that there should be. There should be help given to those people. that find themselves in those situations. But again, you know, like even.

Tyler Lawhon: the And this was something that... I want to say it was probably like Jeff Durbin or. or somebody like that that that brought it up Well, like, there's there's Old Testament precedent. for The way certain things are to be handled after.

Tyler Lawhon: A human being is killed.

Joe Dorhauer: Mm hmm.

Tyler Lawhon: and And it doesn't matter. If it's by another man or an animal or whatever. The fact is, the reason why it's so grievous. is because...

Tyler Lawhon: Men are created in the image of God.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: And therefore. You have destroyed that which is made in the image of God. you have defamed that which was made in the image of God. and And there are consequences for that.

Tyler Lawhon: So... You know, again, it's it's one of those things where it's like it's it's less about like my opinion on the matter and how I think it should be handled and and more about. God has already told us what he thinks about it.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: and how he thinks that should be handled.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: And so we have to be faithful to that. what that looks like. I think. can can vary. Um, unless you take like a hard um A hard stance.

Tyler Lawhon: On, um... you know, ah or like a more theonomic type stance on on how things should be done. Um, I don't. I don't know that I i think. in that case something like the death penalty is necessary in in every Every specific case.

Tyler Lawhon: Um. But I think when you have people that are like genuinely dealing with a lot of mental issues that have contributed. Um, Yeah, you. There should be some sort of health.

Tyler Lawhon: or some sort of help offered. In some way. Um, But there's still a consequence.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: but just as much as there is consequence. There is absolutely. Grace. for those that repent and believe.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: And I'm fine with that. And and and because realistically. The. God -fearing Christian. is not going to be going out committing more murders. Even if that's their old life.

Joe Dorhauer: right

Tyler Lawhon: And now that they're a new creature, that's not part of their DNA anymore.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah. Yeah, and it should be said. Um, Well, for one thing... it It isn't. the government's job. to show grace.

Joe Dorhauer: The government should not.

Tyler Lawhon: Right.

Joe Dorhauer: Show grace. And people people hear me say that and they're like, oh, well, so you think we should get a ticket every time we jaywalk? It's like, well, that is the law. So if they're reflecting God's what what they're supposed to be.

Joe Dorhauer: Um, Yeah. And if we don't like it, we live in America where we can vote so we can change that. or add more crosswalks to your city. But yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: Right.

Joe Dorhauer: Like. Definitionally, the government's job is. Like a sword does not show grace.

Tyler Lawhon: Right.

Joe Dorhauer: That's the picture. It's a sword.

Tyler Lawhon: It's rather indiscriminate actually.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: It doesn't care who's in the way. Yeah.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah. So... ah there's no There's no such thing as grace. Well, there is such thing as grace in... in our system currently. Um, But there shouldn't be. is my point.

Joe Dorhauer: But. On the flip side of that... Um, Just because someone has been... condemned by their government. does not mean that they have to be condemned by God.

Joe Dorhauer: They can still turn Say they're a week away from the death penalty. and they're sitting in a cell. They can still turn and have Lindsay Clancy let's say, and and this is, this is where you have to have some introspection with yourself.

Joe Dorhauer: Are you okay with... The fact. that if Lindsay Clancy repents today, That she will be in heaven with you And the question is, do you take your sin?

Joe Dorhauer: seriously enough or not. um Because... if you've broken any letter of the law, you've broken all of them. Any commandment, you've broken all of them. So...

Joe Dorhauer: um There's a little bit of self -reflection in that. as well as The fact that the cross is... So powerful. that it can forgive.

Joe Dorhauer: even those sins, even those grievous sins. Wicked horrible sins. and That's... one of the reasons why Uh, The world sees the gospel as foolish.

Joe Dorhauer: How could that even be? Why would that even be? This person did this, this, this, and that. And i just did that you know I just lied a few times. Maybe I cheated on a test and stole a candy bar when I was a kid.

Joe Dorhauer: And the reality is they don't take their sin seriously enough.

Tyler Lawhon: right And that's, what is it, The the Way of the Master? Um,

Joe Dorhauer: You gotta do the accent.

Tyler Lawhon: i no ah No.

Joe Dorhauer: ah

Tyler Lawhon: No, I will not.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: Um, his His way of approaching that is something I've always appreciated.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: and And that's the... you know even if it's a little white lie like you got to consider who's on the other end of that Because not only... Are we offending our neighbor?

Tyler Lawhon: By lying or stealing or cheating or whatever it is. But then we also run into the situation of... like when at David's understanding of the sin that he has committed.

Tyler Lawhon: With Bathsheba.

Joe Dorhauer: Mm -hmm

Tyler Lawhon: you know he he repents to the lord and says like against you and you only have i sinned

Joe Dorhauer: yeah

Tyler Lawhon: And. One of the things R .C. Sproul said when when when asked about why... Why hell is it appropriate? Punishment. for sin. you know don't you think that's a bit much you know and he is like what's wrong with you people

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: It's because his his whole... um His whole reasoning for that was. We forget who we are. And who God is and how.

Tyler Lawhon: great our sin is. If we're sinning against a God who is infinite, then how dare we think that... If finite punishment fits the bill.

Joe Dorhauer: m

Tyler Lawhon: It doesn't even begin to touch it. Because God is infinite. and therefore his holiness and his righteousness is infinite. And so to offend...

Tyler Lawhon: the holy and righteous. Um, the creator of the universe. The Infinite One.

Tyler Lawhon: Nothing that I can do is going to make up for that. So... The only way to pay for that. was for the infinite god In all of his infinite wisdom.

Tyler Lawhon: To put on flesh. and come and die in my place because he's the only the only one whose death would be acceptable as payment.

Joe Dorhauer: yeah

Tyler Lawhon: Because even my death isn't enough. For my sin. So.

Tyler Lawhon: you know. Because of that. To tie it back into the the fact that today is the Lord's Day. Because of that, we have rest.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: We have someone who says And and and I love that our pastor Lance brought this up today. Um. Jesus' answer was, You know, come to me all who are. burdened and heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Tyler Lawhon: So dear listener. If you are. struggling with the weight of your sin. Cast them on. The shoulders of the one who can bear it.

Joe Dorhauer: man

Joe Dorhauer: Raise your hands. Anybody? I see that hand up.

Tyler Lawhon: I see that hand, I see that hand

Joe Dorhauer: I see you in the back. I see that wing.

Tyler Lawhon: Yeah.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah. ah There's really nowhere to go from there, Tyler. That's that's great. That's the gospel right there.

Tyler Lawhon: It's true. It's true. and And like you said, I mean. as As divisive as the whole Lindsay Clancy trial has been.

Tyler Lawhon: It is important for the Christian to be able to say, but. If she repents and believes. The same gospel that saved me is enough for her.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: and is capable and and is...

Tyler Lawhon: And I think that's the thing that a lot of people tend to get hung up on. Yeah, but like...

Tyler Lawhon: There's no way God could forgive me.

Joe Dorhauer: Mm hmm.

Tyler Lawhon: And that's just simply not true.

Tyler Lawhon: I mean, Paul. The apostle called himself the chief among sinners.

Tyler Lawhon: And yet... Found hope. and and grace and mercy at the cross. The cross, by the way, that was the symbol for the very Christians that he sought to murder.

Tyler Lawhon: So if anybody can sympathy with somebody like Lindsay Clancy, it's Paul.

Joe Dorhauer: Hmm.

Tyler Lawhon: And yet... He finds himself. continually amazed. at the level of grace that he's been shown.

Tyler Lawhon: So. I don't think that you can find yourself in a situation where God cannot reach you. Um, where his grace cannot find you. and search you out.

Tyler Lawhon: So. Yeah.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah, the the parable... um jesus gives i'm gonna butcher it but um Uh... I think it's an owner of a field goes.

Joe Dorhauer: to the town square and he hires workers in the morning. And they agree ah upon a certain wage. And then he goes back out in the afternoon and they agree on a certain wage and it's the same.

Joe Dorhauer: Then he goes back out in the evening. And you know, day's almost done. There's not. as many hours to work. But. He offers them the same. exact payment. And the first workers and the second workers start complaining, hey, what the heck, man? Why would you give him the same thing you're giving to us?

Joe Dorhauer: And the answer is, is that God's grace. is available to you no matter what you've done. no matter how far along in your life. You are and none of us know. I mean.

Joe Dorhauer: We could go tomorrow, any one of us. We all I'm sure have. known plenty of people that have died unexpectedly, died young. And so.

Joe Dorhauer: The payment is the same. the The reward is the same. for all of us. And it's It's... the owner of the field. whose decision it is. to be gracious enough to give everyone the same payment.

Joe Dorhauer: And we should be content with that. You know. We don't deserve the payment at all. in the first place So we should just rejoice. Let any of us get it.

Joe Dorhauer: and not be prideful and think that we deserve more.

Tyler Lawhon: All right. 100 % agree. and for anybody that says like ah yes but you're calvinists and therefore you think that You know. Some of you are going to heaven and everybody else is... Going to hell.

Tyler Lawhon: Um, I don't know about. Anybody else? But I haven't read the playbook.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: I don't have access to the... Secret thoughts of God.

Joe Dorhauer: Ooh, I should hide my election goggles before you.

Tyler Lawhon: um So my job.

Joe Dorhauer: Before you say this. Sorry.

Tyler Lawhon: A little joke for our Presbyterian friends.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: Um...

Tyler Lawhon: But so like my job is is now to Assume. That anyone could be. Elect.

Joe Dorhauer: Well, and that's the thing is...

Tyler Lawhon: and therefore the gospel should go to them.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah, the gospel should go to everyone. because even as Calvinists, we believe that the call of the gospel is for everyone. In the evangelical sense.

Tyler Lawhon: Yeah.

Joe Dorhauer: I think. The doctrines of grace are a proverbial peek behind the curtain. Okay, so like... It's how things work. And that's useful for teaching us that we should be grateful and not prideful and thinking that we have a superior intellect.

Joe Dorhauer: Or maybe, you know. We just made better decisions than someone else and that's why we were saved is because I had a I made a better choice than someone. But as far as evangelism goes.

Joe Dorhauer: The call to the gospel is for... Everyone. We don't know who's elect. We don't. Honestly, i when I'm doing evangelism, I... don't even care.

Joe Dorhauer: Because either way, God is glorified.

Tyler Lawhon: right

Joe Dorhauer: I mean, I care about the person. I shouldn't say I don't care. but

Tyler Lawhon: ah All right.

Joe Dorhauer: You know what I mean?

Tyler Lawhon: right

Joe Dorhauer: You know what I mean.

Tyler Lawhon: I do. I do.

Joe Dorhauer: But yeah. Sorry, you can't you can't bring that up and expect me not to get riled up. It's your fault Tyler.

Tyler Lawhon: That's okay, Joe. That's okay. I'll forgive you.

Joe Dorhauer: Alright.

Tyler Lawhon: Well, um i yeah I don't really know where to go from there other than to just say, again, to reiterate. Um, For any and all who feel lost.

Tyler Lawhon: If you feel. Burdened and heavy laden. Come to Christ. He will give you rest. And so today on the Lord's day. we'll get to celebrate that rest.

Tyler Lawhon: and rest in him. and and And find... rest from the weariness of the world. Because as we just got done talking about for the last 45 minutes. The world is a crazy place.

Tyler Lawhon: There are situations like Lindsay Clancy and... you know, before that there was. ah Gosh, you name it. So.

Tyler Lawhon: there There will never be rest. in the world. There will always be turmoil and chaos. Destruction.

Tyler Lawhon: Find yourself. in in the rest of Christ. As part of his body. and And you will be truly. ah able to rest.

Tyler Lawhon: even in the midst of that turmoil. And I think that's what, you know, so much of what The Apostle Paul says, and among others. In scripture, but.

Tyler Lawhon: Despite. All of that, like Paul was shipwrecked. He was stoned almost to death. Multiple times. He was beaten with rods.

Tyler Lawhon: Um, They hated him. The authorities wanted him dead.

Tyler Lawhon: And yet. He still called himself blessed. and understood that... He was. Truly resting.

Tyler Lawhon: In Christ. And his trust and and all of his hope lied in. Christ. Um, That was probably grammatically super messy, but... I hope you understand what I'm trying to say here.

Joe Dorhauer: That's alright.

Tyler Lawhon: So. Um,

Tyler Lawhon: Yeah. i ah I don't really have anything more to add to that but just

Joe Dorhauer: You were just taking the example of Paul because he has a lot of run -on sentences in there.

Tyler Lawhon: hey there you you go there you go

Joe Dorhauer: Just saying. Yeah. That's godly grammar right there. i Love it.

Tyler Lawhon: That's right. Oh, man. Well, to wrap us out here, Joe. ah Wrap us up. Up. Out. Up. I don't know Um,

Joe Dorhauer: I'll wrap us down.

Tyler Lawhon: Yeah, wrap us down Joe.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: Well, first of all... ah The obvious answer is five stars.

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah. yeah

Tyler Lawhon: But if you need to do one star. for any reason. Um, First of all, Leave us a comment so that way we know why. But then from there. it's actually the star all the way over on the right it's going to look counterintuitive but uh Yeah, this this is my right. that's I'm getting confused. but ah

Joe Dorhauer: Tyler is mirrored.

Tyler Lawhon: Am I? oh yeah i guess my my camera for me is mirrored yes

Joe Dorhauer: Yeah.

Tyler Lawhon: um Anyway. Yeah. it's all It's all the way over to the right. That's all you need to know.

Joe Dorhauer: Indeed.

Tyler Lawhon: but ah Obviously, don't don't rate us one star. Because that would be rude. and You don't want to be rude. So. Also, don't forget, tag Westhoff.
