Half Hour of Horror is breaking the 30-minute rule for a very special episode as we prepare for Tubi FrightFest 2026, one of the biggest events in the horror calendar -  in the UK and beyond!

This time, Tom Atkinson and Alex Humphrey are joined by fellow Love Horror writer and FrightFest regular Darren Gaskell to look ahead to five packed days of horror, genre cinema and festival madness in London.

Before diving into the 2026 line-up, we travel back through FrightFest history, from its beginnings at London's Prince Charles Cinema in 2000 to the sprawling multi-screen festival it has become today. Tom, Alex and Darren also share memories from FrightFests past, including favourite screenings, unexpected encounters and some of the experiences that make watching horror with a festival crowd so special.

Then it's time for the main event: our most anticipated films of Tubi FrightFest 2026. Tom and Alex each select five films they don't want to miss, while Darren goes one better... or ten better, with a bumper selection of his own.

Expect killer hippos, giant spiders, zombies, practical effects, horror anthologies, documentaries and plenty more as the team discusses films including Grind, Hungry, The Nameless Ballad, Faces of Death, The Glorious Dead, Labyrinth, Spider Island, The Pitchfork Retreat and many more.

And because this is FrightFest, things inevitably get strange. Tom delves into the festival archives for five unusual stories from its history, including the notorious film that FrightFest wasn't allowed to screen and the teenage director who was technically too young to watch his own movie.

In this episode you'll get:

 * A look back at the history and evolution of FrightFest.
 * Tom, Alex and Darren's personal FrightFest memories and favourite moments.
 * 20 films we're excited to see at Tubi FrightFest 2026.
 * Horror recommendations to help you tackle this year's enormous festival programme.
 * Five strange and surprising facts from FrightFest history.
 * Tips for first-time FrightFest attendees and surviving five days of horror movies.

Whether you're heading to Leicester Square for Tubi FrightFest 2026, deciding which films deserve a place on your schedule, or simply want to discover some of the most exciting new horror heading our way, consider this your pre-festival warm-up.
